1Dunfermline Abbey and Palace

Abbey
Dunfermline Abbey and Palace is a historic site with extensive ruins of a grand Romanesque structure, including the mausoleums of Scottish kings and queens. Founded as a priory by Queen Margaret in the 11th century, it later became an abbey and the final resting place for many monarchs, such as King Robert the Bruce. The abbey features impressive Romanesque architecture and notable attractions like fossilized crustaceans in St. Margaret's shrine.
A beautiful historic building. A very serene, peaceful place to be and walk around the grounds. Extremely well maintained and tended to. On-going additions like new monuments and pathways and seating. Car parks are very close and not far from the city centre. Also a stunning view of the Forth Bridge and Queensferry Crossing Bridge in the distance. A lovely place to be

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dunfermline Abbey Free entry — which is great — and an absolute must for anyone interested in Scottish history and heritage. The Abbey offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s ancient past, and it’s incredible to stand at the final resting place of Robert the Bruce. The grounds and surrounding ruins are beautifully maintained, with stunning architecture and a real sense of reverence. Would I go back? Definitely. It’s one of the most beautiful and well-kept relics of Scotland’s architectural history. 💡 Tip: Don’t go on a Sunday, as the church is closed to visitors during services — plan around that so you can explore the interior properly.
Thomas O — Google review
I really enjoyed visiting this beautiful historic Abbey – the exhibitions and guidebook were excellent ( you have to purchase) I loved seeing the Mary of Guise and James V coat of arms door My favourite part was definitely the church – the stunning stained glass windows and the area dedicated to Robert the Bruce, including his resting place. Seeing the plaster cast of his skull from 1818 was fascinating, but the life-like facial reconstruction (right down to the eyelashes and skin) was incredible. A must-see! Parking is available but limited, however parking is available around the location.
LJ M — Google review
Stunning abbey with a ton of history, this one is worth the stop, if anything just for a few pictures. But to see the entombed Robert the Bruce here, and all the historical genealogy, we were glad we stopped by. They have a small visitor center in the ruined section, with not much there but a few souvenirs, but it provided a way down to the ruins. There is also an historic Scotland employee in the chapel willing to answer any questions we had, and plenty of walkways through the grounds among the tombstones. Our only issue was the parking, but we managed.
Duane R — Google review
I was genuinely impressed by the rich history of Dunfermline, and I was particularly surprised to discover the tomb of Robert the Bruce. The abbey proved to be a great experience, and the staff members we met were really welcoming and enthusiastic in providing a range of info. This location offers a convenient experience for visitors of all types, as the abbey and palace are situated in close proximity to the town center, allowing for easy dining and shopping during a visit.
Honest L — Google review
one of the most amazing Abbeys we visited ..lots of history and the burial site of Robert the Bruce...it was pretty emotional standing in front of the Bruce's site knowing that one of Scotland's most legendary figures are laid to rest in front of you ...this was a must see for me on our visit to Scotland
Warren B — Google review
Breathtaking XII century abbey in Fife. Built in Romanesque style, the combination of lights and shadows and the amazing stained glasses turn your visit into a mystical journey to Scottish religious soul. The remains of 7 Scottish Kings including the legendary Robert the Bruce rest in this sacred ground.

Very interesting ruins of palace, some very tight spiral staircases to negotiate and the Abbey is magnificent and the brass plaque over the remains of Robert the Bruce is stunning. Very enjoyable visit and it's free

This museum is about a wonderful man, who helped human mankind to have a more meaningful life! Donated great amount of money to build libraries and so on! The museum itself is a great place to take kids! So many amazing games and opportunities to learn! The staff is also very kind! The museum is free, but donations is possible.

We were stopping in Dunfermline. Had a walk around the city and popped in to find out the history of the gentleman and his life. Very interesting
Barry S — Google review
Very interesting place to visit. Very Scottish and American as he made his fortune in the US. We appreciated the coffee machine and biscuits for a small contribution. Excellent staff. Places for children to draw
Rozie — Google review
Wonderful museum showing both the original house Andrew Carnegie was born in as well as an exhibit of his life and legacy. The woman working was very knowledgeable about Carnegie and was a joy to talk with. Despite being from Pittsburgh and having firsthand experience of Carnegie's influence, I learned quite a bit, and it was very interesting to see a different perspective on him as well as a lot of history about Dunfermlines.
Corwin T — Google review
Great little museum, small but lots to look at, really interesting to learn more about his life. Staff were super knowledgeable aswell, been to a few museums where the staff didn’t know too much about the exhibits so was pleasantly surprised and very impressed! Gift shop is also great, I like that they feature local artists rather than standard gift shop stuff
Alee — Google review
Very well done and interesting exhibits to learn about Carnegie's life, especially his early life. Definitely worth a visit! We parked in the St Margaret Street car park nearby.
S L — Google review
Learned a lot more about Andrew Carnegie. The docent clearly loved to share what she knew about him. Christine was a lovely and joyful person who also shared about other interesting places in the area.
Jen W — Google review
Wonderful little museum in the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie. It was amazing to see how much good he did around the world through parks, libraries, performance halls, and more. Andrew Carnegie’s father was a weaver and they have a working jacquard loom in the house. The part of the house where the family lived is restored to period furniture and personal effects of the family. The second part of the museum has Carnegie’s life after he left for America, how he effected the world and on-going legacy. There are many artefacts and things from his life in this part of the museum as well. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable with an enthusiasm for what they do working there. The middle room is a wee café and there is also a wee gift shop. If you’re interested in learning and the life and times of Andrew Carnegie, we recommend a visit. Check the hours to make sure it is open before you go. It was closed the first time we went. There’s no charge for admission.

Abbot House is a historic red sandstone building in Dunfermline, dating back to at least the 16th century. It houses a heritage centre with an on-site café and microbrewery. The house also features a beautiful walled garden where visitors can take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the serene surroundings. Blend Abbot House, an independent coffee shop located within the premises, offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests to relax and socialize.
Fantastic little cafe with a great outdoor seated area in some lovely gardens. Great view of the Abbey well worth a visit.

Only used the cafe in the house. Serving nice coffee and food and can definitely recommend the fudge brownie, it's been the nicest one i have tasted in a long time. Seating inside and out order at counter.

Dropped in for an excellent Cappuccino and fruit scone ,nice seating area and outside seating as well looking onto Dunfermline Abbey . Prices are a bit high but thats inflation for yuo

Thoroughly enjoyed walking around the herbal garden at Abbott House then warmed up with hot drinks and tasty cakes in the coffee shop. My husband enjoyed a flat latte with peanut butter millionaire shortbread and I had mint tea with a gluten free, vegan and soya free chocolate orange tart. Absolutely delicious 😋 Delighted to find out most of the options on the lunch menu can be adapted for coeliacs. Lots of vegan choices too. Soup is usually gluten free and dairy free. We'll definitely return soon.

Absolutely stunning building with a beautiful garden with views of Dunfermline Abbey. The cafe & gift shop were fab; definitely my favourite cafe in Dunfermline.

The best place in Dunfermline for a cup of coffee, tea, and something to nibble on. It is a perfect spot for any artist as the place is so inspiring. The staff is very friendly and they always go the extra length in looking after the customer. I tried a slice of the carrot loaf while there, and it was delicious. It became my favourite spot for my writing, so I'll definitely be back.
Alina S — Google review
This place is set in a gorgeous little garden and quite hidden out the way. The food was amazing and the place very busy so bear that in mind for a last minute drop in. The gardens are also dog friendly with the staff being very attentive to both you and your dogs needs. The chocolate brownies and “The Usual Suspect” (bacon roll) are highly recommended.

Nature & Parks
Pittencrieff Park, also known as The Glen in Dunfermline, is a picturesque 76-acre green space with a rich history and diverse attractions. Visitors can explore the ruins of Dunfermline Palace, the Double Bridge leading to Dunfermline Abbey, a statue of Andrew Carnegie, and Malcolm Canmore's tower. This lush oasis offers tranquil woodland walks, beautiful gardens, and waterways.
What a wonderful place to appeal to all ages. The are fantastic parks for the kids and great nature walks for those who enjoy taking in the scenery. I particularly enjoyed seeing the beautiful peacocks and friendly squirrels. I had a wonderful coffee at the Peacocks Room cafe.
Lynette R — Google review
My first visit to this lovely park. I am very glad we took the time to visit this lovely park and everything it has to offer. A really lovely place to just sit and relax, walk around or even take the kids there to tire them out. There is a very nice cafe called the Peacock Rooms with plenty of seating both indoors and outside. It has a wide selection of food and drinks, not just cakes. There is a very large greenhouse with giant cacti. Plenty of free car parking.
Steve A — Google review
Wonderful park, have been twice now and still not discovered it all! If you park at the main car park and take a two minute walk down you’ll come across two huge parks that the kids can spend hours playing in. If you walk across the grass towards the train and take the path to the right down the hill it’s like waking into a fairy tale, the place is beautiful (a shame that the gazebo has been set alight, but hopefully this gets sorted soon.) Dunfermline abbey is right beside the park and is a wonderful added bonus and you can get your free to tickets by walking in and go round more or less the entire place. Ontop of all that, there’s also an aviary with peacocks!! We saw a beautiful male walking around on Saturday and inside there are baby peacock! Will definitely be back in future and discover what else this place holds.
Chloe S — Google review
I love pittencrieff park, or The Glen as it's known locally. Such a beautiful park and gardens, there are peacocks roaming about which are fab to see, or you can visit them in the peacock house. Pittencrieff park is very well maintained and has toilets, cafe, picnic benches, gardens, children's play areas with an ice cream van, and is a lovely space to spend a few hours. There is a small hot house with cacti and other plants. There are a few different paths to walk all around The Glen. It is such a beautiful park with stunning views of Dunfermline Abbey and over to Edinburgh on a clear day. Definitely well worth a visit.
Paula D — Google review
This is a idden gem. You arrive at the kiddies playground area and don't really think much of it, however..... As you walk up towards the town the park opens up and you realise how huge it is. There is a glen which is tree lined and full of squirrels, unfortunately my elderly mother couldn't manage the up and down of that area. You walk further and find the cafe where the scones are wonderful and the coffee good. Other food looked really good to. Dogs are allowed outside on the patio. Toilets can be found in the cafe and in the pond area next to it. Continuing to walk you find the big house and a lovely garden which must look stunning in the summer months. There are many benches to rest on and survey your surroundings. A wonderful garden even in the gloom of a misty October morning. Incredibly dog friendly however masses of squirrels incase you dog likes chasing them
Julie G — Google review
Beautiful park, great for kids and adults, bring some nuts as the resident squirrels eat them right out of your hand, The parking is free, disabled parking is next to the bandstand, drive through the first parking lot and follow the road through, You could also park in the main street and get access to the front entry of the park, just be mindful of any parking fees or time limits, it is easier to park in the parks, parking lot, There is an old church with an old cemetery, look up to the big square tower of the church and see king Bruce, carved at the top, im not entirely sure but there is a connection to robert the Bruce, from the cemetery the views are absolutely stunning u can see the 3 bridges over the firth of forth Next to this church is the ruins of dunfermline abbey its stunning i prefer ruins, it is free to visit both the church and abbey but for the Abbey they said u had to go online and book your ticket and show the arcade to the staff member You don't need to go into the Abbey grounds to appreciate it, u can look down on it from the cemetery, dogs are allowed into the Abbey but not the church, it is worth going into the church its beautiful beyond words inside A wander around to the glasshouse its full of exotic plants from around the world there is also formal gardens right next to the glasshouse, a bit further up the path heading towards the peacock cafe is a sunken Japanese garden it sadly is a bit over grown and the pagoda thing is falling to bits, its still worth going down there though, Near the cafe, which seemed popular on the day I visited, you will find the peacocks wandering around freely, so its best to keep your dog on a lead in this area, from the cafe its only a short walk back to your car, Overall this park is a must visit especially if you are a history enthusiast, all around the park is hidden remnants of historical buildings My only problem with this park is the chronic lack of signs telling you where to find certain areas, so its just a matter of wandering around until you stumble along something historical There are some pretty steep hills and steep paths made of rocks, but most of the main paths are in good condition but not really suitable for someone in a wheelchair There is an old train engine that kids can climb on, as well as a few large kids play parks There is loads of benches or grassy bits to stop and have a picnic, just keep an eye out for rogue squirrels they really aren't afraid of humans The park is big, around 75 acres if I remember but u can do a short or long walk depending on your fitness Stepping into this park feels like u have stepped back in time, u can feel and imagine how it was like back then, take your time and enjoy the atmosphere of this park xx
Tricia B — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic family day out at Pittencrieff Park! Everything was perfect — lovely green spaces, great atmosphere, and plenty to explore. The park is well maintained, ideal for kids and very family-friendly overall. There was a really nice vibe while we were there, with people enjoying the outdoors and activities going on. Definitely one of the nicest parks we’ve been to in Fife — can’t wait to come back!

The Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries is a modern complex that incorporates the historic Carnegie Library, which was the first of its kind when it opened in 1883. The building, which opened in 2017, features an exhibition on the history of Dunfermline, complete with a large Meldrum weaving loom as its centerpiece. Additionally, there are galleries and event spaces within the complex. Visitors can also enjoy a cafe with a wide selection of food and cakes.
The library museum was impressive with well displayed captivating artifacts properly explicated. The interactive features were awesome and entertaining. It has many lounges, sofa and seats to chill and relax, even to enjoy beautiful scenery of surroundings from the inside looking out. The place also housed a library, museum, gallery, cafe and gift shop, all in one place. Moreover, the Abbey and Palace, Abbot House and Pittencrieff Park are all situated conveniently nearby within 5 minutes walk of each other, in the city centre. Visiting Dunfermline top places of interest has never been easier. It is therefore a must do.

Such a good visit to Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries. Having lived locally for four years, we enjoyed our first time visit. Really interesting and good collection covering lots of local history and celebrities. Well worth a visit!
Caitlin B — Google review
Having been a frequent visitor to Dunfermline in the past, I was excited to visit this new Library/Gallery. There is one section of the building that is devoted to the history of Dunfermline and holds many fascinating artifacts. There are huge glass windows, set up with seating, so one can just sit and enjoy the view. One thing that I noted was a stand along a wall that held portable chairs. One can merely take a seat and set it up anywhere on the floor in order to relax while reading through displays rather than having to stand the entire time. Very clever! There is a timeline along one wall that features the history of the city, and a clever hologram display at the entrance of the upstairs gallery that gives a synopsis of certain characters in history that are connected with Dunfermline. In addition to featuring the weaving history, there is a military display that includes personal stories of inhabitants of Dunfermline that went off to war, and the hardships that the city's people had to endure. There is also and interesting and informative display of the many contributions of Andrew Carnegie world wide. And, this is all in just one side of the building. The other side holds a huge library. There is a cafe in the building as well as a gift shop. And toilet facilities conveniently located on every floor. There is also a special children's section with hands on displays. This truly is a very unique experience and one well worth visiting on a trip to Dunfermline.
Barbara G — Google review
This building rises before the eye as ancient ideas rise from the pages of philosophers — lofty, unmoving in its mass, yet alive in its meaning. It is as if the stone itself has absorbed centuries of silent time, and the architect has composed in its structure a symphony that only one who understands grandeur as an extension of eternity could write. To gaze upon these spires and pointed towers is to witness time itself, frozen in rock, telling of man’s struggle with nothingness, of his attempt to immortalize his soul upon the earth, even if only through stone. The ornamentation climbs upon the walls as doubts climb in the mind of a thinker, seeking always to touch the idea of perfection — and perfection here is nothing but the balance between ornament and austerity, between beauty and strength. The narrow windows, suspended as if they have watched passersby for hundreds of years, are the building’s silent eyes upon humanity. They gaze wordlessly, whispering in a tongue only heard by those who have learned to listen to stone: Civilization does not reside in fleeting splendor, but in this long patience that places stone upon stone, unwearied. That tower which rises above the rest like a finger pointing skyward reminds us that man, at his core, is a being who forever lifts his gaze upward, questioning the unknown, dreaming of immortality though bound to earth. The tower seems to speak to time: You pass, but I remain standing. The sharp corners, the carvings that resemble the depths of ancient caves, declare that art here was not luxury, but part of the building’s identity, a voice from the past inscribed in this silent stone. Every balcony, every cornice, every arch, seems like a forgotten wisdom crafted by one who lived before us, leaving behind these traces to say: There is no beauty without necessity, no adornment without strength as its sister. And from the folds of these stones rises a sense that architecture, in its essence, is mankind’s answer to mortality: If man must perish, let him build something that will not. If days must pass, let us leave behind a witness to testify that we were here, that we lifted stone toward the heavens as we lifted thought from darkness into light.

Definitely worth a visit. We enjoyed the local history in the museum and the art installation in the gallery. Free entrance. A pleasant walk from the Pittencrief car park (also free).

Not just a library and gallery. It is a really quirky museum. Some great examples of old industries from the area. Activities for kids too. Great architecture of the joining of two buildings. It is free, donations help though.
Ste22 — Google review
The Carnegie Library is, as ever, a wonderful asset to Dunfermline. Such a pity 2 members of staff on the desk let it down today, with an ineffectual intervention by the “Assistant Events Manager” who tried to gloss over my calm and reasonable issue with, “this was just a misunderstanding.” It wasn’t: the answer to my original query was dismissive, condescending and patronising at best, downright rude in fact. What a great shame. Still reeling from the shock of this from my absolute favourite place, sanctuary and second home in Dunfermline for half a century.
The F — Google review
A total gem of a place. Friendly and helpful man upon entering explained the exhibits. The museum section was brilliant, a wee step back in time with plenty to see and do. The photo exhibition with photos of the people of Dunfermline was really brilliant too.

Nestled in the heart of Dunfermline, the Sweet Chestnut pub is a delightful spot to enjoy a meal, especially during the festive season. This charming establishment offers a Christmas Day carvery featuring an enticing three-course menu for those looking to celebrate with family and friends. Diners can indulge in a variety of starters like tomato soup or chicken & herb terrine before moving on to main courses that include succulent roast turkey and minted lamb shank.
I had a wonderful experience at Sweet Chestnut. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and the staff were attentive, polite, and genuinely helpful throughout my visit. The food was fresh, well-presented, and served promptly, making the entire dining experience enjoyable. What stood out most was the friendly service and the team’s willingness to go the extra mile to make sure everything was just right. It made the visit feel personal and memorable. I would happily recommend Sweet Chestnut to friends and family and look forward to visiting again.

Used to dine here a lot but hadn't been for a while. Got seated and ordered fine. Had to wait for someone to come out kitchen to serve carvery which took a little while. The boy couldn't really carve the meat it was so dry and grizzly. Couldn't eat the roasties as they tasted as if they had been under the heater for hours. Couldn't cut the Yorkshire pudding as even that was all dried up. The table we were given had ripped cushions and very shaky chairs. So disappointed as used to enjoy this place. When asked if we enjoyed our meal we told them no it was too dry. They never said anything and just walked away. Three upset stomachs this morning, not nice. Gave one star for the dessert which was lovely and fresh.

New user, booked for 7pm and was offered 40% off mains. Came to order by using QR code at the table but the discount wouldn't work! Ordered at bar instead and lovely staff member Richard saw the emailed voucher and took the discount off. We ordered carvery and it was explained only gammon and turkey available. Paid at 7.15 but found we had to wait at the deck. It was explained the server was busy in the kitchen, as a disabled lady, nearly had to get a chair. Whilst serving he had to keep popping back into the kitchen. First for plates, then for Yorkshires. Food (except cauliflower cheese) was dried up but edible (see photo half way through meal)! Pub itself is tired (see photo of our booth). Just about worth it with the 40% off but only just.

What a brilliant carvery experience! From the moment we arrived, the chef couldn’t have been more friendly — not just to us, but to our Labrador too! He welcomed us warmly and even had a designated spot where our four-legged foodie could sit comfortably. And get this — the chef brought out a big bowl piled high with offcuts of meat just for the dog. (Pretty sure he got a larger portion than I did... and I’m not even mad about it.) The food itself? Absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh, hot, and served up fast — no waiting around, just straight-up quality from start to finish. Tender meats, perfectly cooked veg, and all the classic trimmings done just right. It’s not every day you find a place that serves great food with such genuine hospitality — and where the dog leaves even more stuffed than the humans. We’ll definitely be back. Massive thanks to the chef and team for such a top-notch experience! Many Thanks DronesViewsReviews

The bed was absolutely amazing – like sleeping on a cloud, I could have stayed there all day! Unfortunately, the shower had the water pressure of a polite drizzle, so my much-anticipated hair-wash day turned into more of a splash-and-hope-for-the-best. They did kindly give me a free breakfast to make up for it, but the hash browns tasted like they’d been through an Arctic expedition before reaching my plate. Still, for the comfort of that bed, I might just forgive everything else!

Not been in a while however I will be back more often. The staff are amazing and I witnessed a member going above and beyond to help an elderly lady with her dinner as she was using a walker... he brought over the plate and helped the lady sit down. Amazing food also! And the atmosphere was very relaxing and fun :)

This is my favourite place to have a Sunday carvery, the carvery is always available but I prefer the traditional Sunday so it does cost more but I don't mind. Worth every penny. Sometimes the veg is a hit or miss, sometimes there can be honey roasted parsnips other times just simple boiled carrots. I'd prefer consistency so I know what I'm getting but regardless I love the food available anyway.

Visited here with my family yesterday night. The place has a lovely warm atmosphere the second you walk through the door. We were very impressed with our meals, 2 of us ordered meals from the menu and 1 of us chose to have the carvery, unfortunately it took around 30/40 minutes for the 2 meals to arrive so by then the person who had the carvery was almost finished. Despite the slightly long wait however, we had a lovely time here and enjoyed our meals a lot. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Jack 'O' Bryan's is a top dining spot located just off the high street of Dunfermline. It offers a unique blend of traditional Scottish flavors with international influences, promising to excite your taste buds. The restaurant prides itself on impeccable service and an electric atmosphere, making it the perfect place for a memorable night out.
We spent a beautifully relaxed evening here in early Dec. As soon as we entered there was a very warm welcome and the two of us were escorted to our table. The staff served everyone efficiently and to a very high standard although still found time to be friendly and take an interest in each of their customers by having a short conversation with them which, in my opinion, makes the customer feel special The food was exceptional and the only problem we found was that this was our only visit here during our stay in Dunfermline. We were also given plenty of time during the evening which allowed us to indulge in 3 courses This restaurant is a gem for fine dining and besides our 3 courses we also had a bottle of wine, coffee and liqueur so when it came time to pay our £220, we felt it was worth every penny ! We will definately be reserving a table at this establishment again when we return to Dunfermline next Dec
Babs A — Google review
This was my 3rd visit to Jack o Bryan’s for their lunch menu, Unfortunately this visit I was so disappointed with the food and service. To start with the food, we ordered 6 dishes and only thought 2 out of 6 were lovely. The warm sourdough and black pig butter was delicious, also the roasted cauliflower was lovely. The other dishes were very confused and most of the flavourings did not work well. We ordered the beef tar tar (which previously I have loved) but this was not pleasant… the flavours over powdered what should have been the star of the dish the beef. The Lamb Yaki was nice although once cutting of the fat that was not edible you really only got 2 mouthfuls each and this dish is £16. The soft shell crab was over cooked very small and the sauce that comes with it did not work with the crab was actually really odd to have a fish dish with soft peppers and a pepper/peri peri sauce. The black pudding caramelised onion and blue cheese dish was ok but it just 2 small bits of black pudding with what tasted like onion chutney and a cheese sauce with no hints of blue cheese and again these flavours are odd together. Overall I think for £70 for 6 dishes I would expected more could get a far better filling lunch else where for less than that. The two times I have previously visited here I loved it but this time the flavours were confused and over priced for what you get. The front of house lady who took us to our table was very unpleasant and not friendly. Never smiled once. When I asked for a new plate you’d think I asked her for £20 with her reaction. Also when we were happy drinking water and not adding drinks or wine her fave was tripping her. If it’s the first person who greets your customers I’d advise getting someone more friendly with a smile.. made for an unpleasant atmosphere and we were in and out in 45min.

The bar and kitchen is an amazing setup and the design and layout complements the dining experience with great food and the presentation make the mouth water at the detail that has gone into making you experience world class food from an amazing chef. To have the owner take time to explain how he produces great food and the chocolate on offer made my day. I would highly recommend a visit and enjoy the dining experience.
Cecil B — Google review
Quite excellent food overall, although I found some of it over-seasoned, and meat a little fatty. Overpriced - mains (already min. £30+ each) require addition of sides separately, which is not clear from menu online. Automatic service charge which I really dislike, although staff were attentive. Automatic charitable donations also really disliked. Just a regular bill please
Stacey — Google review
Food was the best part but they need to be clearer about the ingredients on the menu and ask guests in advance if they have allergies or dietary restrictions. The main server is great but the rest looked and acted like they didn’t want to be there. For a fine dining restaurant with such a high price point the experience wasn’t worth it. The restaurant isn’t designed properly, and it’s decorated like a cafe rather than a restaurant serving fine dining. If you’re going to spend £60-80 per person better to go somewhere in Edinburgh. Also, they take a flat service charge.
May K — Google review
Very very good! Food beyond fantastic. The service excellent and the atmosphere perfect. A few things with their customer facing terms and conditions could be done much better, but something you can overlook when it’s great food. Would highly recommend. 5/5
Dean C — Google review
We went here for dinner after receiving several recommendations and were not disappointed. Our server was superb. He alone was five stars, a true professional. As the food arrived, we continued to be impressed with the quality and presentation. The night we went was relatively quiet, with only four other couples, so it was hard to grade the atmosphere. The room was nice but a little bright for me; however, this didn't stop me from grading this superb restaurant as a 5-star experience, and I would highly advise you to try it for yourself.
Graeme S — Google review
We took my mother there for her birthday, and the food and service were outstanding. They can't cater to all dietary restrictions, but I had no problem eating gluten free. Love the atmosphere of the place as well...I found the lighting a bit bright at our table (we were seated at the front of the restaurant) but staff dimmed lighting upon request and then it was perfect. Highly recommend!

The theater's inviting ambiance is enhanced by its festive lighting at night.
Fantastic old style theatre with excellent interior, two bars, and great shows.

Lovely old theatre with a good view of the stage from most of the seats. Ticket prices are very reasonably priced We went to see Lulu live, great show.
Steve A — Google review
A really nice venue that's held some classic pantos, as well as comedians like Jimmy Carr, and talks by professor Bryan Cox. Truck drivers: if you're in an artic, pray 🙏🏼 there's a car park opposite you can drive into and wriggle/reverse into the alleyway where the stage door is. I chose not to, and "blind sided" it in, but it was easier for me because I'm in a left hooker. Good luck however you do it. Watch the drain cover by the car park entrance!

We were at the Alhambra Theatre to watch Ben Portsmouth and what a night we had, the place was a fantastic venue and Ben was brilliant as was his band. This is a stunning place to visit and the drinks are a fair price the staff were very helpful. We had a great night and Ben and his band made the night a perfect night out. We will definitely be back at some point and would highly recommend Alhambra Theatre as a top place to visit.

Interesting place with a long history! Didn't know before arriving that visits should be booked 48 hours in advance but the attendant (who was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable) kindly let me in anyway. Best to check in advance to avoid disappointment.

Saw Nik Kershaw here with my family for my birthday. It was great. The venue was lovely but the leg room at the seats was pretty short. Staff were friendly and helpful. The loos were clean. The bin was at the opposite end to the hand towels, so you had to wander back and forth when drying your hands. The bar was very reasonably priced and well stocked.
