There were some nice apartments listed on the website. Otherwise it has quite annoying booking - like you have to separately choose and pay for every towel, bed sheet, wifi etc. A bit too overwhelming with those configurations. Unclear info with a key pick up. But the worst was that the location of accommodation on the map was wrong on the website. It was in the same village, but we got real address only after the booking and it turned out to be almost outside the village.

(Translated by Google) Booked at the large hotel and the reservation went through, I don't know why by "SC Vallée reservation" an awkwardness on my part, arrived at the hotel I was told that the room had not been paid, I therefore paid it 930 € (3 nights) and checking my emails I see that I had made a payment in October of €1100 to SC Vallée Resa….. the hotel therefore reimbursed me 930€ that I had just paid with the credit card. Does that mean that SC Vallée Rés took almost €150 in sales? Even the Hotel does not understand and finds it worrying that customers pay almost the amount of an extra night!!!!!

(Translated by Google) I am writing here due to a total lack of response from the Serre Chevalier reservation center to my requests by telephone and via their platform. I had booked at the "Maison Alliey - Hôtel et Spa" hotel in January 2025 and when I arrived there, the hotel did not have my reservation which had already been paid by credit card via the "official" platform. The manager of Maison Alliey was very professional but having no more rooms available, she contacted nearby hotels. Only a 2* hotel had a free room, we were not going to sleep outside with my husband so we accepted this emergency. Of course, we cannot expect the same services or the same price between these two hotels. However, NO REFUND nor ANY EXCUSE or explanation from “Serre Chevalier Réservation” has been made. Today, I am still waiting for my refund! Aujourd'hui, j'attends toujours mon remboursement !

Fortress
Fort du Château, also known as the fortress of Briancon, is a must-see tourist destination located at the top of the hill above the old town. The 18th-century castle offers stunning views and can be explored for free in most areas. Guided visits are available during summer, offering insight into its history and unique setting. The fort has also hosted events like the Gravity Gates MTB competition.
On the top of the hill there is a fort, nice place to walk fair entry fee (6€ adult). Nice personal at the gate. View is beautiful.

(Translated by Google) A little disappointed on a historical level by the visit to the castle fort because of the initial medieval castle, nothing remains except the location and the site was completely transformed and reworked at the end of the 19th century. Only the powder magazine would be of real historical interest but it cannot be visited. The site is mainly made up of artillery platforms, curtain walls, ramparts, etc. On the other hand, the viewpoints overlooking the Vauban city, the collegiate church, the town and the surrounding mountains from the site are worth it. You can also see the La France statue by Antoine Bourdelle up close. An orientation table also allows you to locate the different summits at 360 degrees. The heritage department of the city of Briançon organizes guided tours of the site. Contact the tourist office. Cité Vauban, located in Briancon, France, is a historic fortified town nestled in the Hautes-Alpes region. This City of Art & History is renowned for its Vauban fortifications, which are designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The fortress showcases unique military mountain architecture and features star-shaped walls and ramparts designed to provide strategic advantages in defense.
The Briançon old city is absolutely beautifu, with many small shops and artisan boutiques. The fort is also impressive and worth a visit. From there the view is beautiful
Chiara C — Google review
Great historical place, famous for its Vauban fortifications ! Old city very nice to walk into. Superb view from the ramparts, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink!
Stéphane P — Google review
The old city center does not offer anything shocking, it is even quite boring. Everything is concentrated on one street, everything else is a mixture of old and renovated. Many medieval cities look better. However, if we look wider, in the context of the former defensive fortresses (tribute to master Vauban) in the city area, the picture is more varied. Despite being Monday, the parking lots and the main street were very crowded, I spent more than 1 hour parking - quite a bit from the old part of the city. The tour of the walls offers beautiful panoramas, but I was very disturbed by the excessive dog feces - disgusting and smelly - shame on dog owners!
Jože H — Google review
This is a very interesting fortress town. The main street has good shopping. Parking is available a few hundred meters away but is not free (only the first 30min). Excellent views. The town itself is pleasant and the natural surroundings with the various forts make it a special place. Not easy to access for people who cannot walk, due to the height differences.
Michael B — Google review
Interesting old town, took a walk around the walls and inner streets. A great fest, community theatre. Breathtaking sunset. Outside the walls a great boulangerie with fantastic mille feuille.
Meira K — Google review
The shops on the main street have some interest gift ideas, local flavors, talents and traditions, a few really talented artists and sculptors. Very old buildings. Very interesting visit even more so when there are events planned.

Fort du Randouillet offers splendid panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the Fort des Trois Tetes and Fort des Salettes. Visitors can enjoy a cozy Alpine eatery while taking in the breathtaking scenery. However, some visitors have noted challenges such as a lack of clear signage and limited information in major languages at the site. Additionally, it is recommended to visit with a guide for detailed insights, especially if French fluency is not strong.
My favorite fort in the area. A very nice hike up to it and lovely views
Raven C — Google review
Well worth visiting. Amazing views over the other forts and town. Unfortunately not living up to their WORLD heritage status. No signs indicating rout to get there. The only information board in the car park not in the major world languages and not about the forts. Very sloppy. Mid September only visitable with guide, free tour today, lots of detail but only understandable if your French is fluent.

We found out (too late) that this lift is open only at very limited time of the day. When we bought our pass (19€/person), we were told we could enjoy the lifts all day long until about 5.00pm. This is a real disappointment and clearly unacceptable.

If you just want to go up to the top, and hike down, it's 18 euros. A rip-off. Should be 7 or 8. So they lost 7 or 8 in order to try and get 18 euros off me. They need to change their pricing strategy. While I arrived, four other people came and also left because of the crazy price. So they lost 5 clients, like 50 euros, because of this strategy.

(Translated by Google) Built in the 18th century by the military architect Vauban, Briançon Cathedral is a listed monument that dominates the heart of the fortified town. Its sober and massive Baroque architecture perfectly reflects Briançon's defensive spirit. Inside, you'll discover a simple but harmonious nave, with antique furnishings and discreet frescoes. It's not a monumental cathedral like those found in large cities, but it has real character and bears witness to the region's religious and military history. It's worth a visit if you're already in the old town, particularly for its location within the ramparts and the surrounding panorama. A cultural stop that perfectly complements your exploration of Briançon.

It was listed as a historical monument in 1931. A first church dating from the 15th century was destroyed in 1692 during the War of the League of Augsburg. Vauban, responsible for rebuilding the fortifications, himself sent the plans for a new church, as evidenced by a letter dated July 26, 1703, addressed to the consul of Briançon. The construction of the church, which began in 1705, encountered some setbacks: the architect, a protégé of Vauban, disappeared, taking the plans with him and after receiving a substantial advance on the price. The consuls formally ordered Vauban to carry out the work. The architect, having been found, built the church under the supervision of Vauban himself. The church was completed in 1718 and consecrated in 1726. Since 2017, the collegiate church has been undergoing a twenty-year restoration program.
