Museum
The Hong Kong Space Museum is a unique egg-shaped building located by the Tsim Sha Tsui harbourfront, offering an array of space and astronomy exhibits. Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities and educational displays suitable for all ages. Notable attractions include The Aurora exhibit, Icy Bodies, Big Bang Theatre, and Gravity Surfing. The museum also features the Stanley Ho Space Theatre with a hemispherical projection dome for immersive experiences such as 3D documentaries and Omnimax shows.
One can't miss the dome shaped building especially at night. This is the Hong Kong Space Museum commissioned in 1980. My elder son is a big space fan and a visit to this museum as tourist was to teach his younger brother his knowledge of space. The museum was crowded but we patiently waited for our turn on each and every exhibit. My favourite was what happens to our body in space and surfing in space 🌌. Kids everywhere some learning, exploring and some making new friends. We had a good time even though we did miss some exhibit because of the crowd but we still enjoyed.

Located on the HK promenade. Easily accessible by multiple modes of public transport. Came across this option for things to do while visiting HK. Was staying at TST, so just a short walking distance away. Our 2 13yos had an amazing time. The entry ticket to the space museum is very reasonably priced and tickets for students are cheaper. There's 1 museum at the ground floor where you get to learn about the galaxies, planets and stars, with very informative and interactive displays and activities inside. Another museum / display on the 1st floor, where the past and future of space travel have been shown in detail. Accompanied by displays, artifacts and activities. On the 1st floor, there's a dome shaped cinema where movies/shows related to nature and space - dinosaurs, the Arctic and space - the 3 movies being played when we visited. There's a schedule that you can view online as well. These are paid and you can opt for them. This was a good experience for both adults and children. They enjoyed a lot. Worth a couple of hours, if you have time to spare.

Visited the Hong Kong Space Museum's outdoor area tonight (July 23, 2025), and it was a fantastic experience! The open space along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is beautifully lit, with stunning views of the Victoria Harbour skyline as a backdrop. The iconic egg-shaped dome of the museum is a photo magnet, especially at night when it glows softly against the city lights. The outdoor exhibits, like the sundial and astronomical models, are intriguing and spark curiosity, even for a quick stroll. It's a perfect spot for families, space enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a unique evening walk. The vibe was calm yet inspiring, with the cool harbor breeze adding to the charm. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area-it's a little gem that blends science and scenic beauty!

Quite fun and interesting, albeit a littlemore limited than we has expected for such a big city with prime location! Our 4 kids (9-15) and ourselves still found interesting aspects for each age and enjoyed an educational afternoon without being bored!

Magnificent building. Looks grand from across the streets. We did not get time to visit the museum, but it definitely looks interesting. With all lights all lit up at night, worth to stop by here.
Sujay S — Google review
Lively during weekends, especially in the exhibition area. Mesmerized with the immersive theater, telling stories about outer space. Theater price: $40 Exhibition: $10

It was raining outside and we thought what else do we do other than visiting a Museum, at first we were skeptic that it would be just another historical museum but to our surprise it had a science wing which was pretty interesting and a lot more fun activities. Good experience for 1-2 hour indoor excursion!

The Hong Kong Museum of History is a captivating destination that offers an extensive look into the rich tapestry of Hong Kong's past, spanning from prehistoric times to the present day. This large museum features the engaging 'Hong Kong Story' exhibition, which vividly illustrates the city's evolution from a modest fishing village to a bustling metropolis. Visitors can wander through galleries showcasing local folk culture, complete with replicas of traditional fishing junks and homes of boat dwellers, immersing themselves in age-old traditions and ceremonies.
I spent only two hours on the first floor and this was only 20% of the museum. You can imagine how huge it is. The displays are easy to follow with nice English descriptions. I just wish there more items on display for the part that discussed the TST part of Hong Kong during the British rule. The staff is helpful. I accessed the museum for free which is great really. Inside very cool and comfortable. Recommend.
Nurseit N — Google review
Although the Hong Kong Museum of History offers free admission, I initially had high expectations for the depth and quality of its exhibits. However, after visiting, I found the experience somewhat disappointing. The museum lacks the comprehensive content one would expect from an institution dedicated to Hong Kong’s rich and complex history. The exhibits feel somewhat limited in scope, and the overall presentation leans heavily towards a One China narrative, rather than providing a balanced or in-depth exploration of Hong Kong’s unique cultural and historical identity. While it remains an accessible option for those interested in a general introduction to the city’s past, those seeking a more detailed and objective perspective on Hong Kong’s history may find the experience underwhelming.

- This place was one of the top places on my checklist and I accidentally came on a TUESDAY--the day that it's closed. - When I came on Sunday,I made my way to the museum 45 minutes prior, so I took my time to get there. I was surprised to see that a lot of tour groups from mainland (I think) were already crowding the entrance! - It was super cool to go right when the doors open - The general admission is FREE! - The museum has 2 floors and each floor holds different exhibitions. There's a national security exhibition, an old Hong Kong exhibition and Hong Kong's fashion evolution. There's also an exhibition for Chinese-Americans and Hong Kong-Portuguese decent. - I was really excited to see the history of the Chinese Dynasties but that exhibition is still being prepared/ under construction!! - Each exhibition area has a lot of interactive displays and objects! Each exhibit has a Cantonese & English description which is really informative. - I honestly thought the museum would be a lot bigger but it's a pretty decent space. - It's a bummer that I didn't see a gift shop.

For a US visitor, the best part of this museum was the special exhibit on overseas Chinese in the US and specifically California. As my husband‘s family immigrated from Hong Kong to California in the 1960s, it was a great reminder of their experience. The exhibit also provided an excellent overview of Chinese American immigration to the United States. The ancient history of the QIN and HAN dynasty was interesting as well and tracked the PBS special on the first emperor of China. Definitely worth the visit.
C N — Google review
The 'Hong Kong Story' exhibition has been closed since October 2020 for "renovations". Opened in 2001, it previously provided "an in-depth understanding of Hong Kong's history and culture". Commentators have suggested it was closed due to influence from the Chinese Communist Party. Instead, there is an exhibition on National Security (requiring admission fee) and "80th Anniversary of Chinese Victory in the War of Resistance"... neither particularly showcasing Hong Kong culture. You can avoid this one on your itinerary, unless you have a keen interest in propaganda.
Roger L — Google review
I was not able to explore entire museum, but I greatly enjoyed learning about Sino Japanese war. Hoping to go there again to complete rest of my readings :)
Buvanesh K — Google review
An interesting exhibition exploring the concept of security in various aspects of life for Hong Kong residents. I highly recommend it – the objects are superbly presented – but the entire exhibition needs to be translated into English.

Fun place to visit for not only Hong Kong but also some Chinese history, if you are OK with some propaganda.

Museums
The Hong Kong Science Museum, located in Tsim Sha Tsui, offers an interactive and educational experience for visitors of all ages. With over 500 exhibits covering a wide range of scientific subjects such as energy, aviation, robotics, and more, the museum aims to make learning about physics, chemistry, and biology entertaining through hands-on activities. One of the main attractions is the 22-meter-high Energy Machine that showcases the conversion of mechanical energy into kinetic energy.
One of the highlights of our recent Hong Kong trip was our visit to the Hong Kong Science Museum, a truly engaging destination for all ages! From interactive exhibits to hands-on experiments, the museum made learning fun and exciting for the kids, while still being fascinating for adults. It was heartwarming to see the entire family—yes, even the grown-ups—exploring, discovering, and laughing together as we tinkered with the displays. The Energy Machine was a standout, and the space and robotics sections kept everyone intrigued. Best of all, the experience was educational without feeling overwhelming. If you’re traveling to Hong Kong with your family, don’t miss this gem. It’s a place where science comes alive, curiosity is sparked, and memories are made.
Manaog, S — Google review
Even though the museum is primarily designed for kids, we really enjoyed exploring it. The lower level featured a fascinating dinosaur exhibit that was both informative and engaging, along with other interesting displays such as Mirror, which we found particularly captivating. The 3D models of the T-Rex were incredibly lifelike it was truly time well spent!
Yaznasri D — Google review
Great museum for kids and adults! We loved the mirrors section, the electricity exhibition is also super! The kids played around with the huge verity of interactive exhibits and loved it. We also loved the science live show which was a pleasant surprise for us. At the top floor there’s a play area with cool science related games! We liked it so much that we visited here 2 times during our 6 day trip to Hong Kong. Worth mentioning that there were many school trips to the museum on both our visits, and it does make it crowded…
Dotan E — Google review
Worth visiting when traveling with kids in HK. It’s free admission on Wednesdays (double check before you visit), plus it closes at 7pm. There a lot of hands-on interactive activities for the kids to engage with and the top level is a whole kids play area for them to go wild in. The construction playground has been done really well where kids become little builders - get to move foam bricks around by wheel barrows, crane and via chutes. Remember to get a time-slot card from staff in front of the playground before queuing up - each play session is 15min. It’s a bummer when level 2 and some other parts of the museum are under construction, so wasn’t able to see everything it has to offer. Guess that’s for next time~
Fay L — Google review
🌟 **Disappointment at the Hong Kong Science Museum** 🌟 I wanted to share a very frustrating experience I had today with my kids at the Hong Kong Science Museum. We arrived with high hopes, but faced an uncomfortable situation at the entrance to the play area. My 6-year-old son was not allowed into the play area because he was 3 centimeters below the height requirement, while his sister was let in without issue. The play area was completely empty, and I just can't understand how such strict rules can be enforced when it comes to a small child. It's really sad to think that there are people who can't exercise common sense in situations like this. Instead of allowing him to enjoy the play area like the other kids, he was left outside. I hope the museum will reconsider this policy to prevent similar situations in the future.
Tali B — Google review
The Hong Kong Science Museum has some interesting exhibitions, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations for a city like Hong Kong. While a few exhibition areas are well-designed and engaging, others feel a bit underwhelming. One notable feature is the focus on advancements in Chinese science, like electronics, nuclear energy, and the space age. While these are fascinating topics, they seemed a bit out of place and more policy-driven than fitting the museum’s theme. The Energy Machine is a highlight, but I think it could have been more impressive if it was a purely gravity-based setup, like a marble run. Right now, many parts are motorized, which takes away some of the charm. Unfortunately, some of the permanent exhibitions were closed during my visit, which might have affected the overall experience. Overall, it wasn’t amazing but not terrible either. If you’re a big fan of science museums, it’s worth a visit, but it might not be a must-see.
Phuwit V — Google review
A few exhibits were closed and some were not working. However for HKD 20, it was an excellent price to performance ratio. The light and mirrors hall was quite a lot of fun.
Saurabh C — Google review
The museum was super fun with hands on experience on exhibitions which makes children's very interested in science. It's perfect for a date too. You need at least 4-5 hours here to explore everything. Recommend to go at 2 pm and then leave around 7 pm

The Hong Kong Heritage Museum, located in Sha Tin, showcases various aspects of Hong Kong's rich heritage. The museum's distinctive traditional Chinese siheyuan architecture houses six permanent exhibitions, including the Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall and the TT Tsui Gallery featuring Chinese art. A special exhibition dedicated to Bruce Lee is also a highlight. Through time tunnels, visitors can explore pivotal periods in the city's history, from its humble beginnings to becoming a thriving metropolis.
Amazing collection of Hong Kong cultural artifacts! I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the materials and presentations. I especially love the Bruce Lee hall and the 金庸 exhibits. Free admission and very easy to get to via rail / subway.

Nice place, free to visit and small crowd. Good range of exhibits across 3 floors and a nice cafe as well as gift shop to boot. Near a shady walking trail. Good for 3-5 hours!

Easy access with bus stop right in front of the building and there’s plenty of carpark. Free admission. Interesting exhibitions from traditional art to more modern forms.

Opened in December 2000, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum is a public museum of history, art and culture located in Sha Tin, beside the Shing Mun River. We recently saw the special exhibition “A Man Beyond the Ordinary: Bruce Lee” and it was super. - Educational - Well maintained - Recommended to those who is interested in the history of Hong Kong
X-tina — Google review
You can see the permanent Bruce Lee exhibition on the third floor. Admission is free. This permanent Bruce Lee exhibition alone is worth the trip. I only saw his movies a few times as a child, but I found myself wanting to learn more about him.
Taka H — Google review
This museum is very underrated, when I visited there was so little visitors, it also happened to be a Wednesday so I don’t need to pay to enter. I enjoy the Cantopop section the most, reliving my childhood memories
W L — Google review
Went there quite late in the evening. It’s a nice walk from the MTR to the building. The building itself isn’t very impressive but the exhibits are. With only an hour to go, I went straight to the Bruce Lee exhibition. Found his personality quite endearing going through his philosophies and personal letters. On the way out and with little time left, got a peek off what seemed to be and exhibition of Chinese artifacts.
Deepa S — Google review
Free for entry, located along the canal, 5-10 minutes walking from Che Kung MTR station. There’re many exhibitions showing in each gallery room. And the environment around the museum is really good.

Museum
The Hong Kong Museum of Art, established in 1962, is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. It boasts one of the world's finest collections of Chinese art, including paintings, sculptures, and drawings. Following a major renovation and expansion in November 2019, the museum now features an increased number of galleries and exhibition space to accommodate its extensive collection of over 16,000 artifacts. The new facilities also include dining options such as the modern Australian restaurant Hue and seafood specialist Ink.
Superb building. Free admission. They have great collection of snuff bottles Also Chinese calligraphy n paintings. They did a happy mixing exhibition between modern n traditional arts, through common mediums or inspired by.. Not overwhelming but you can enjoy some hours there. lively place with children. nice museum shop too.

Entirely free. Accessible for everyone. It's intimate and not overwhelming, yet packed with a diverse array of art and historical exhibits. My personal favourite was the snuff bottle collection. Even if you don’t go through the galleries, you can still enjoy the stunning harbour view through the windows.
Sanchirmaa O — Google review
Limited exhibits but a good public space. They have permanent and temporary exhibits. The entry to see the permanent exhibits is free. There are some interesting paintings and calligraphy. One floor has history of canton ports and products manufactured for exports, with interactive viewing. The floors seemed to be a good viewing spots for the nightly laser show.
Amrutha V — Google review
A must-visit spot when you’re in Hong Kong 🇭🇰. I had a great time exploring the Hong Kong Museum of Art and I was pleased to find that most of the exhibitions have free admission (though there is one special area where you have to pay). Inside, I learned a lot about Hong Kong’s art development, including local modern art, Chinese painting and calligraphy, and ancient Chinese antiquities. They also have a dining area inside the museum (small but charming) with a café on a balcony where you can look out over the harbour while sipping a drink. The views from the large floor-to-ceiling windows are breathtaking and make the visit even more special. Overall, I had a memorable visit and I highly recommend this museum when you’re visiting Hong Kong.
George M — Google review
There was so much to see! We spent two half days here and still didn’t manage to cover everything on display. The exhibitions are exceptionally well curated, thoughtfully connecting the past and the present. Each display is presented in a way that helps visitors interpret and understand its historical and cultural significance, making the experience both educational and engaging. It’s a place that truly encourages you to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the richness of what’s on display. I could have easily spent even more time exploring.
J H — Google review
Very crowded but no wait to actually enter and shockingly it’s free! Nice collection of traditional Chinese paintings, as well as contempo / more modern stuff on different floors. Perhaps try to go on a weekday non public holiday and it will be a bit more peaceful and contemplative. Beautiful views from its floor to ceiling glass windows too - very cute they have seats to let you just sit there and gaze out at the classic HK harbor. They had some kid friendly interactive features as well.
Romina W — Google review
I really like this museum! Really impressive and has a lot of beautiful and old things. I’m surprised it’s for free apart from only one zone. There are 5 floors and many halls, so I would advise to have at least 1.5h or even more. There are lockers for your staff, WC.
Elena T — Google review
Loved our visit! They have a place to store your luggage to visit the exhibition! Most of the exhibitions are free- and they are very nice/interactive.

The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is located at the historic Lei Yue Mun Fort and offers a glimpse into 600 years of coastal defense in Hong Kong. Housed in an old coastal defense fort built by the British forces in 1887, the museum's permanent exhibition, '600 Years of Coastal Defence,' traces the coastline's defenses from the Ming dynasty to modern times, including significant events like the Opium Wars and the Battle of Hong Kong.
An incredibly well put together, underrated museum with deeply detailed exhibits of Hong Kong's rich colonial and military history. There is also a lower section of the museum taking you to the coastline. A full walk around will take a good two to three hours and more and it makes for a good half day activity. Free admission too. The museum is very well maintained. My favourite part of the museum were the exhibits on the build up of the fort leading up to World War II, and the subsequent repurposing of the lands in the years around the handover. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy history.

I am so glad we took the time to travel to this amazing museum! I do not even have interest in history of my own country during my schooldays but this totally convinced me that knowing about history is not just boring stuff. Best of all, it is free and it even has free cold water refilling station that really gives you a boost to explore this unique multi-level museum on a scorching day!
Kittybelles — Google review
It’s a pretty good place, photogenic but I wish they have more individual stories of those who were killed fighting against the Japanese. Soldiers lives matters, in more ways than the remnants. Instead of putting really tacky artefacts and sculptures like doves, just present a more human rather than symbolic face to this story

First part 1. Clear signage on the way to there from Shaukeiwan mtr station 2. Very spacious with indoors and outdoors exhibitions 3. Very informative 4. Good design n not crowded even on weekend 5. Very fun n prefer to good on good weather day as u need to walk outdoors
Chee M — Google review
It is very convenient and only walk 20 minutes from the subway station, worth to spend hours to learn the history of Hong Kong. Free admissions.
Raymond C — Google review
Great museum (free) showing the history of the fort took about 3 hours to properly do all the outside and inside exhibits. Would recommend anyone interested in military history to go here.
Simon I — Google review
Formerly Lyemun Fort, now converted and revitalized as the museum, located in a strategic place, scenic and cool. And saw John Lee visiting too🤣You can see the ocean, the mountains, the highway, a mix of the typical landscape of Kowloon and HK Island. The Japanese invaded HK Island by crossing the Lei Yue Mun Pass close to Xmas in 1941 soon after the Pearl Harbor, and began the military occupation of Hong Kong for over 3 years.
DW C — Google review
The museum is pretty large and houses quite a number of artefacts and exhibits that cover the history of HK during the colonial era. There are a few different routes you can take to explore the area, both indoors and outdoors. Highly recommend for history buffs!

Children's museum
The Hong Kong Children’s Discovery Museum is a haven for young, curious minds. With over 30 interactive exhibits focused on education, children are encouraged to explore and learn about various subjects such as math, STEM, language, and literacy through hands-on experiences. During the soft opening period, visitors found ample materials for free play and scientific exploration. The museum's staff actively engaged with children at the water corner while also allowing adults to enjoy the facilities alongside their kids.
Although not comparable in size with the science museum, there are thoughtful spots for kids to discover things that are not typically thought about (even for the adults). Especially love the Hong Kong themed cityscape display! There’s a nursing area for the mommys.
Tink W — Google review
Beware that there are defined entrance time for one of the 3 daily session. Each session is 2.5 hours. Entry cost is HKD 60 per adult and HKD 90 per child. There is also a dedicated area for toddlers. Some of the explanations relative to the environment are too much museum like and the storytelling workshop did not seem to work well. Nevertheless kids had great fun at the water play and at the wind channel.
Raymond B — Google review
This place is like a small science museum, good for kids to spend an hour there. It's currently at soft opening, ticket price is 100 per person for 1.5 hours which is very reasonable.
Ben L — Google review
Only the water site is fun. All facilities are very old. Not worth the money.
Denise C — Google review
It was a nice and educational place for my son. But I think this is more apt for older kids (primary) since they would appreciate and understand more. Unfortunately, it was far for us and we could just opt to go to Science Museum, which is nearer, bigger and has cheaper ticket cost.
Joy P — Google review
the museum suits children at different ages. The staffs are very helpful and surprisingly pay lots of effort on maintaining the environment tidyness. My family had an enjoyable time there.
Yee K — Google review
Quite disappointed as there wasn't much my son could do. It has some basic stuff to wonder around but nothing that's unique or attractive.
Prahlad A — Google review
My 3, nearly 4 year old loved it here. It was our first visit and we booked online to spend 1.5 hrs here. He could have stayed longer if given the choice - lots of well resourced areas, with the best area being the water section. It was quiet when we went (Sunday afternoon) which was great for us. They have aprons and driers but a change of clothing is recommended. A little on the pricey side: adult (140hkd) and a child ticket (100hkd).

The Hong Kong Cultural Centre, located on the tip of Kowloon peninsula, is a prominent landmark by the harbourfront. Since its opening in 1989, it has been recognized as a prime world-class performing arts venue. The centre comprises an Auditoria Building with three major performance venues: the Concert Hall, the Grand Theatre, and the Studio Theatre. It has hosted internationally renowned productions like The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.
Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre is a fascinating spot, both in terms of its architectural design and surrounding atmosphere. The building stands out with its modern minimalistic structure, featuring geometric dimensions that create depth and visual appeal. Certain angles allow light to pass through the gaps in the walls, casting beautiful shadows and bringing the materials to life—making it a great spot for photography. The area around the centre also offers a spacious walkway extending to Victoria Harbour, providing a clear view of Hong Kong Island. The refreshing sea breeze from the harbor makes relaxation. With plenty of seating areas, it’s a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

A must-visit for performance lovers—whether it’s classical concerts, ballet, opera, or films. Even without attending a show, the striking architecture and waterfront steps make it worth a quick stop. To get the full experience Host small exhibitions, cultural events, and occasional free performances

The Hong Kong Cultural Centre is a fantastic spot to visit. Its location right on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront offers amazing views of Victoria Harbour and the city skyline, making it a perfect place for a leisurely stroll and great photos. The architecture of the building is also very unique. Inside, the center hosts a wide variety of world-class performances, from concerts and ballet to art exhibitions. Even if you're not attending a show, the atmosphere and views make it well worth a visit.
Geolo S — Google review
Due to building works going on in the area, it was a little confusing getting about and finding your way. Area was nice and the views excellent. Some nice place to walk, the centers were large and a little confusing with directions. Overall nice place to visit. We also tried the cable car, but the que was immense and due to the volume of people at the top, the lifts were slowed down. You need to go 1st thing in a morning.
Tony S — Google review
May 2025 The historical HKCC building is part of the larger promenade complex dating back to the pre handover era and serves as a concert and cultural hub during its heyday. Now it features more classical and local performance arts performances such as ballet and classical music, and the support of local traditional art and subjects like calligraphy and painting. The build is also a beautiful place and worth walking through. Though a large number of homeless also seem to stay there.
Oliver P — Google review

Kowloon is a bustling district in Hong Kong, situated on the mainland north of Victoria Harbour. It's known for its lively dining scene and vibrant markets. The area is home to the renowned Hong Kong Space Museum, which is considered one of the top planetariums in Asia. Adjacent to it are the Hong Kong Museum of Art and HK Cultural Centre, all of which began construction back in 1977.
