Nature & Wildlife Areas
For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum is a well-maintained 383-acre nature reserve that has been in existence since 1970. It boasts of a visitor center, various woody specimens, trails, and a treehouse. The preserve provides an opportunity for bird watching, deer spotting, frog and dragonfly viewing as well as enjoying the beauty of the flowers and trees all year round. Visitors can also witness starlit lightning bug shows at night while taking romantic walks with family or friends.
Can't believe I haven't reviewed For-Mar before! This is one of my favorite places! My husband and I had our first date here, and our engagement photos done here, too! Always animals to see and hear, the visitor center is great, the staff are so nice, it's a real gem!
Samantha S — Google review
Enjoyed hiking the trails with my family of 7. Never crowded. The most beautiful park. So many great trails. Wonderful nature center and gardens. Turkeys and deer are plentiful!
Jessica B — Google review
Awesome and completely FREE park. Great place with lots of activities for kids in the welcome center. You can check out backpacks that have activities to do during your nature walk. Beautiful butterfly house with lots of different kinds of butterflies. There is also a vegetable garden as well. The tree house was not open the day that we went but we still walked up the stairs and ramps and checked it out. Lots of different trails to walk and they are all marked and numbered so you can easily follow the map. We had a fantastic time and there was so much more we could have done but didn't have time so we will definitely be back again!
Ashley H — Google review
Staff was kind & helpful. Park is always very clean. Tons of stuff to keep little ones occupied, and lots of hiking trails and things to explore for the older ones. You will learn a lot about nature! There are binoculars and special outdoors backpacks you can rent out for special adventures. Lots of cool taxidermy and also live reptiles/amphibians/insects/fish. In the late spring and early summer, all the flowers are bloomed and leaves on the trees, there is wildlife EVERYWHERE... it's beautiful and amazing. The big tree house and "creaky shaking bridge" are always a hit with the kids. They do tours and events if you watch their social media you can find some cool stuff to do all summer long! My kids and friends and family all adore this place. We always make it a point to leave it cleaner than we found it. I tell each child they are a "nature helper" and I have them pick up any trash we find along the way. There are trash cans and porta-potties for use. A butterfly garden, vegetable garden, and greenhouse. I HIGHLY recommend this preserve/nature center, if you are interested in spending the day outdoors. It's especially helpful on moms who need to wear their little ones out a bit 😅 I also recommend hiking boots or sturdy sneakers. Be ready to walk, pack a snack and some water, pull a wagon if you need to. And stop at the gift shop on the way out!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Deer Everywhere! For-Mar Nature Preserve is one of my favorite places in Burton. The trails are peaceful and always full of deer—sometimes you’ll see whole groups grazing just off the path. It’s beautifully maintained and perfect for a relaxing walk or nature break. A true local treasure!

It's always a great time at For Mar! I've done multiple night hikes and have come several times during the day - there is always so much to do and see. Highly recommend!!

Went for an adventure. We followed most of trails. Well as far as my body would allow. Flowers, bees, turkeys, geese, and deer. Bring water and walking shoes. Picnic areas are in many places.

Waterfalls
The Stepping Stone Falls is a picturesque recreational area located in Flint, Michigan. It features numerous hiking trails, picnic sites, and a dam with an accessible lake stocked with fish. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful industrial waterfall next to the serene lake while strolling along wide and paved walking paths. The park also offers playgrounds for kids and photo shoot locations for families. Additionally, visitors are advised to bring some bread or cereal to feed the carp that pool up at both sides of the dam/falls.
This place is a haven of peace and tranquility. The surrounding natural beauty is breathtaking, with views that look like something out of a painting. The green areas are lush and perfect for hiking or simply sitting and enjoying the surroundings. The picnic area is ideal for sharing a day with loved ones, and the nearby swimming area is a perfect addition to cool off and enjoy the sun. The tranquility and serenity of the place make it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the stress and daily routine and connect with nature. It is undoubtedly a place worth visiting and enjoying.
Estefany F — Google review
Beautiful views!! The dam is gorgeous and abundant with wildlife. Ducks, seagulls, geese, and more all cohabitat this section of the lake. The lower side of damn was rich with fish visible from the surface. Almost all trails are wide and smooth enough for standard wheelchair access. However, the dam itself is a series of steps to different outlooks. But there are many accessible veiw points across the falls. Well spread seating across the trails for those who need to take breaks often. Adorable old fashioned water pump for clean water next to the swimming area.

A Wonderful Urban Oasis - Fun for the Whole Family! What a fantastic find! This park is a true gem, centered around a unique and powerful dam with beautiful cascading waterfalls. The sound of the water is so relaxing, and it makes for some amazing photos. Beyond the falls, there are lovely walking trails and two scenic bridges that offer incredible views. Offers picnic areas. The park is full of friendly geese, seagulls, and huge carp in the water just waiting to be fed. We saw people feeding them and they went crazy for it. It was such a fun and interactive experience for everyone. Highly recommend for a relaxing and enjoyable day out! Also bring bread or popcorn to feed the animals.
Gregg W — Google review
Beautiful & serine. Not crowded either. At night the falls light up with different colors. Great place to picnic & grill too. Canoed there from a mile away to pull over & grill hotdogs & rest.

The sound is so relaxing . During the week it's nice and there aren't many people. Beautiful at night it has led lights.. nice little walk.

What an absolute gem 💎. This place is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a spectacular place to see a super cool man made waterfall!!!

Stepping stone falls is onenof those Genesee County gems that a lot of people dont know about! Great place to walk or have a picnic. There is a nice paved trail for walking or biking. A nice restroom and plenty of seating to take in the view.
Matthew C — Google review
Absolutely lovely place . For a being a place in Genesee County it felt really safe and clean. Seems like it had a good accessible walk way. The falls were more than what we expected. There are stairs to all up and down to see the falls at different levels . The only downfall was we couldn’t find a map to tell us where we were at and how long the walk is .

It has been many years since I had been here. The pavilion is very large and spacious. The park area is very clean.

This park is ok. If Flint residents wouldn't litter, and picked up after themselves, it would be a lot better! Glass is all over the parking lot, and on some of the steps. The park looked clean today, but always do a quick check before letting your kids run around here.

A park that follows the Flint River along side the University of Michigan - Flint's campus at the dam downtown. It a great walk, with park like spots of benches surrounded by trees and certain sections of the river walk way walls being lined with local artists' artwork. Seems to be a great fishing spot as there are always several with their lines in the water.
Taylor M — Google review
My last visit to the park I witnessed three people drinking and smoking crack it's a shame people don't have enough sense to do that kind of thing in their own private setting I'm glad their weren't any kid's around beside that it is a nice well maintained park good for walking

We have a jewel in our community. This park is really beautiful. The issue is safety. I've noticed the park police twice now. Will they stay or were you just coming to lock the gates
Sheila M — Google review
A nice place to have a family gathering, and where you can go jogging, walking, and riding your bike, the bad thing about this part is the mosquitoes, and it's also have different types of birds flying around up in there
William R — Google review
Nice place to walk. But... One of the girls that walk here... Got her car window broke and her purse stolen! So it's like Park at your own risk! You can have your car broken into right in your driveway. 🤷 It's an even better walk when they clean the track and driveways.
Anna J — Google review
Beautiful, Clean and serene park. I love to walk and cycle through this park. The trailways are swept and kept clean as well as the portal Potty's. They have several Pavillions for public use for any occasion you may want to celebrate. Also they give great historical facts of the park along the trail ways. All in all a wonderful park!!

Applewood Estate, once the private residence of automotive pioneer Charles Stewart Mott, is a 34-acre property in Flint, MI. The estate features an apple orchard, extensive gardens, a gatehouse, barn, and coop. Although it's no longer an active farm, it holds historical significance and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can take guided tours of the house to learn about the Mott family's contributions to the community.
This is a beautiful estate that is nice to visit. I went here and was satisfied with my experience. This estate contains a large mansion and a large expanse of gardens in the middle of Flint. While the mansion’s interior is not open to the public, its exterior is still nice to admire because of its architectural style. This estate has an apple orchard, garden with a fountain, statue, and another garden with a preserved farm with chicken coops, horse stables, and dairy cow milking stations. I gave this estate five stars because it’s a beautiful property to walk through on a nice day.
Qwerty — Google review
I really enjoyed learning about the Mott family and touring their estate. Everything was free and guides were helpful. The grounds were beautifully kept and it brought me back in time to a different era. My only disappointment was not enough signs showing the names of all the trees, plants and vegetation.
Rick S — Google review
A beautiful place, very friendly staff. It’s a great weekend exploration spot, with a beautiful garden, house and just to walk around.

I visited Applewood Estates today for the first time and found myself wondering why I'd never come here before. The grounds and gardens were peaceful and delightful to walk through, with a wide variety of garden plantings to enjoy. The house is open to self-tour the ground and basement level with guides available to answer any questions about the Mott family and their home that they've left as a legacy to the Flint area. It's tucked away next to the cultural center, and admission is free.

Wanted to visit this estate since I was seven years old. Sixty three years later my eldest sister last saturday. The staff were knowledgeable friendly warm and inviting. My sister got tears in her eyes as she looked at the very first exhibit of C.S. Mott's personal and philanthropic contributions to Flint. The estate is beautifully maintained. Thank you 😊

Public beach
Bluebell Beach, located along the Flint River Bike Path, is a lakeside park that offers a sandy beach for a delightful summer adventure. With the inclusion of a splash pad and shade kites, it provides ample opportunities for both children and adults to have fun and stay cool. Picnic tables are available to seek refuge from the sun while enjoying a meal. Additionally, this beach has been a popular fishing spot since 1995.
This is a nice beach and park with a splash pad, walking trails, and pavilions that can be rented. It’s usually kept clean and the park rangers are always nearby. There is more than one play area for the kids and several grills to cook out. There are picnic tables with canopies near the water as well. The restrooms are clean and up kept.
Tammy E — Google review
Beautiful beach area. Lots of parking. Very very clean. Nice access off the Flint River. Many smaller individual pavilions to sit at. Large pavilion with grills and nice bathrooms. Large play area.
Alina L — Google review
Bluebell is a beautiful spot and the Parks community have really made it family friendly. BUT I was out there with small kids and couldn't believe all the sand was covered in dog poop. Everywhere and I had to cut that short because who is going to tolerate that Filth.. Don't you have cameras to see who is letting their pets do this. Signs need to go up and no dogs allowed. I am posting so you can see its everywhere. Not to sure about the water as very small kids were in it.but that's on the parents. That is the inky thing negative otherwise a lovely place to take the kids .
Susan P — Google review
Excellent beach. Splash pad, trails, fishing, boating, wild life, birds! There's plenty to do hidden by Huckleberry railroad off 475. It's a easy way to spend a day.
Randy K — Google review
The beach was really packed but it was a very hot day. Didn't like the algae in the water, I'd recommend water shoes. Lots of seagulls. But overall the kids enjoyed it and we made it work. I didn't know they also had a splash park here, added bonus and my kids also really liked the playground.

Beautiful Spot for a Day Out in Nature! I had a wonderful time at Stepping Stone Falls in Michigan! The beach area was clean and well-maintained, with clear water and beautiful surroundings. We had lots of fun at the splash pad—it’s perfect for families with kids! The walking trails were peaceful and scenic, a great way to enjoy nature and unwind. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing and fun outdoor experience!

Arenas & Stadiums
Atwood Stadium, the new home field of the Flint City Bucks SL2 soccer team, has undergone significant improvements. The stadium now boasts clean and well-stocked bathrooms, as well as a beautiful new turf that reportedly drains quickly. While some visitors note that certain features are outdated and in need of modernization, such as limited wheelchair access and an aging sound system, others appreciate the good view of the play provided by the stands.
You get a great view at any seat! Personally, I loved standing at the top! Looks like they are doing pretty well at redoing this stadium! The only thing that I wish we had was a better way to enter & exist for kids games.
Rochelle C — Google review
I like what they’ve done with the stadium. It’s very well kept compared to how it was 10 years ago. This is staple for most flint natives. My dad played ball here when he was a kid.
Meg — Google review
I had an amazing time there. The staff there was nice, professional and they keep it very clean and accessible for handicap. Definitely a good place to go for events.
Andrea T — Google review
Nice facility for high school sports. Now Google maps does not direct you to the main gate. Maps directs you to the North side of the stadium. The entrance is on the south side of the stadium.

A nice artificial turf for soccer. Stands provide a good view of the play. There are a lot of lines to sort out from other sports that also use the field but once your eyes adjust it is fine.

Park
Broome Park is a well-maintained baseball field with a smooth infield and deep, relatively flat outfield. The backstop allows for easy advancement on passed balls, and the mound is in good condition. The outfield foul lines are made of permanent wooden 2x4s, which adds a unique touch to the field. There are tall stands for fans to watch from and sunken dugouts. Adjacent fields provide plenty of space for warm-ups.
Nice park in the city of Flint. Has a playground and soccer fields.

It looks nice an good me my husband and kid's lived across from it for like 6 years but I wouldn't recommend women or children kid's to go there without a man because the reason I moved my family was because then women started to come up missing an was found in trash bags at the park it was crazy an so scarry living by there I was scared every time me or my kid's had to go out side just to be safe I recommend for all children and women to have a man with them at that Park at all time's safety first y'all
Tracie H — Google review
I'm certainly very thankful and glad that the city has at least tried to provide the neighborhood children with a spot to run around and burn off some excess energy, but if you aren't from this area, you may want to consider alternatives in a more suburban setting. This park lies in what is currently likely the worst part of Flint nowadays, and that statement should NOT be ignored. The likelihood of a violent crime occurring against, or involuntarily including an innocent and/or defenseless victim is probably 10x more likely to happen to any random person in this area as opposed to other parks, even other parks right here in Flint! This area is by far a safe place to bring your children, especially if you aren't from Flint and haven't been around this environment for years and years already! Stay safe everyone!
Brian H — Google review
Pretty nice local baseball field. Ample bleacher seat, and the facilities are in darn good shape except for some of the bleacher wood is rotted and broken. It’s definitely dangerous in one section. It should be repaired or at least cordoned off.
Mike C — Google review
It's a park owned by the City of Flint but it basically only has a Class A baseball ⚾ diamond that's very nice. A practice ball field. Looks like intramural soccer fields or practice fields. A swing set. That's about it there's not a lot to do it's not like a regular park to play in. At least it's all mowed and being used by these game fields. I was happy to see this because the last time I went by the grass was 2' ft tall which was not to many years ago. I was happy to see this large open space being utilized.
Lynda S — Google review
Baseball Diamond Review - Great field. Smooth infield, well maintained. Outfield is deep and relatively flat. Backstop is deep, so extra bases are automatic on passed balls.. Mound is nice. The only oddity at all is that the foul lines in the outfield are permanent - wooden lines comprised of 2x4's sunk level into the ground. Not a deal breaker, just different. Nice tall stands for the fans to watch, and dugouts are sunken. Plenty of space to warm up before the game in the adjacent fields. Really enjoy playing here. Parking lot is off Hammerberg Road.
R K — Google review
Love running my dogs early in the morning there..

Rust Park, located in Grand Blanc near Thread Lake, is a small yet impressive park that offers various amenities for visitors. The park features a pleasant walking trail with gentle inclines, as well as a playground, softball field, basketball and tennis courts. It's an ideal spot for picnics with plenty of shaded areas and benches available. Additionally, the park boasts well-maintained facilities including restrooms and picnic areas.
An absolute gem of a public park, fully maintained and clean. The playground is large and fenced in, conveniently located next to the pavilion, restrooms, and courts. Across is a little free library, pollinator garden, and the start of a small paved trail loop with a storybook trail provided by the Genesee District Library. Across the bridge is even MORE park to explore with trails and picnic tables and open fields.

Very nice small park. Extremely nice trail to walk around, not long but the small inclines add to a good exercise. There is a playground as well as softball field (looked like the entrance to the field was closed), basketball and tennis courts too. It would make for a good place for a picnic. A few benches around if you get tired. Lots of shade which was nice during the hot day. There are 2 parking lots that I saw with a total of 3 handicap parking spaces. Not many people at all while I was there so everything was pretty much open. It’s a fantastic place to walk, peaceful, but it is rather small. Also the road is not well marked, from what I saw, so make sure to watch closely fro the turn. It’s off from a neighborhood.
MarkaPhotog — Google review
Rust Park is a small, local city park off the streets of Center Road and Rust Park Drive. The drive in along the tree line street is so pretty. I kept hearing about this park so I wanted to check it out for myself. The parking is limited with only two smaller size parking lots. Parts of the park look run down as there was trash in the parking lot. Dogs must be on a leash. There is a playscape area, tennis court, bathrooms and a pavilion that can be rented for parties. It looks like the park gets mowed and sprayed. There appears to be a small walking trail. It is nice as far as parks go, but it isn’t a park that I would go to unless I lived in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Angela B — Google review
There must have been a camp going on because it was so crowded. There were kids running everywhere not watching where they were going. The little toddler section they have was not usable because the teenagers were hoarding the tunnel and my son couldn't play on half of it. Someone needs to be watching those kids. I like the gardens they have, very pretty landscaping.

This is a beautifully tucked away little play area. From what I saw it was very cleaned and well maintained. There is a small baseball field, short trail to walk pets, and a good sized playground. There’s a small stream that runs through the area where ducks like to hang out. If you live in the area then this is a great spot for you and the kids. Lots of open space to run around in.

Nestled behind Freeman Elementary School, it features a baseball diamond and an expansive open field perfect for various activities. Whether you're flying RC helicopters or enjoying a friendly game of catch, there's something for everyone here.
Behind Freeman Elementary School there is a baseball diamond and a large, open field which are accessed from the street just south of the school. I occasionally bring my RC cars to the diamond (when I feel motivated enough to thoroughly clean them out afterwards!) and I fly a couple of my RC helicopters in the field. The neighborhood is very nice for being in Flint and the neighbors around the school are always friendly when I see them outside. Nice place to relax after a long day of work!

If I want to sit and take in a nice view I'll stop here on my way home from work. There is a park bench available. They also have a dock that many fishermen like to use. I find it a little difficult because it's got a grass/dirt area with a slant towards to water and ruts in the dirt where it's been washed away. No steps down the slop to the dock and I don't want to twist my ankle or fall so I don't go that way.

21Mundy Miracle Commons Trail

Mundy Miracle Commons Trail is a 10-foot wide blacktop pathway located near Home Depot. It offers two loops, one being a mile long and the other 0.9 miles. The trail features benches for resting and is surrounded by woods. Additionally, there's a new building with public restrooms and a concession area, as well as a baseball field under construction for individuals with mental and physical challenges.
When I shop at Home Depot, I make it a point to go to the Mundy Miracle Commons Trail, which is next door practically. A 10 foot wide blacktop pathway meandering through the woods, one loop is a mile, and the other loop is 0.9 miles. There are benches along the path to rest if needed. There is a new building on site that Is now open with three public restrooms and a concession area, I assume, as there is a baseball field under construction for children and adults with mental and physical challenges. The baseball field is now blacktop/asphalt, which makes sense as it is set up for disability people. I enjoy walking through the woods and seeing some rabbits, squirrels, and birds. It's open 7 days a week. I haven't been there in the wintertime, and I imagine it would be fun to cross country ski there. There is a Porta potty at the edge of the parking lot. But since I was there last time. The new building with public restrooms is now OPEN! Very nice restrooms. Three. Restrooms set up as males. Family and females!
D R — Google review
Very nice walking/skating trails. No playground for the kids yet but it looks like they're working on slowly building more things. My kids still loved to walk around and pick the wild flowers, and do the random hopscotch that are painted on. It does flood a little when it rains but my kids thought that made it that much more fun.
Ashley H — Google review
Great up and coming paved trail with some downsides. Biggest problem for me is the lack of shade. This is one of the few paved paths near me that I can walk my dog at, and this happens to be my favorite out of all of them but unfortunately it only works for me in the cooler months. Walking my dog here is not safe on these hot summer days. Also have to watch the temperature of the pavement, dogs can get burns!!! In the winter this trail has a lot of ice and in the warmer months when it rains the trail often floods so be wary of that. Also be aware of the maintenance truck that will drive around in the mornings sometimes. Construction is undergoing as well. Beautiful trail though with gorgeous wildflowers, amazing up and coming landscaping, memorial benches, and plants. Trash cans throughout and dog poop bag dispensers. Busy and loud when events are going on which is often in the summer months, parking lot fills up. I wish events were more advertised, I never know what’s going on or when. You’ll see lots and lots of wildlife here. Deer, rabbits, groundhogs, ducks, geese, birds, and possums. It’s great for birdwatching there are so many birds here. Wear bug spray, mosquitoes are REALLY bad here. Also to note, I have had three instances where an off leash dog has ran up to me and my dog. A lot of the dog owners that walk here are negligent and rude. I have a dog that isn’t friendly and I have had to start yelling at these dog owners as their dog is running towards my dog and still they don’t have any urgency to get their dog. Signs posted everywhere about dogs needing to be leashed.
Brooklyn — Google review
A safe and extremely beautiful trail. I was in awe at how much space is here and how well kept it is. A wonderful place to walk, cycle, jog, and walk your dog. There are lots of handicap parking spots as well as a porta potty at the entrance. The paths are extremely wide so I don’t feel crowded when a cyclist passes me while walking. I can hear so many birds and they even have small bird houses on some of the trees. There are benches scattered across the trail. One of the best trails I’ve walked in Genesee County. Highly recommended!!!
MarkaPhotog — Google review
This is a great spot to enjoy a walk , or take your pet to walk. There are two loops each about a mile and a large hill At the center of the park. There are stations with dog waste bags and garbage cans, and benches on each loop. There’s a lot of accessories that seem like a tad bit overkill, but I love that people are investing and doing so much to create a pleasant space for the community. Bathrooms currently are being built and there’s a little pavilion thats cute. Its one of my favorite spots to take my dog. The paths are very well kept as well!
Shawny N — Google review
Really nice park! It’s super clean and has plenty of benches throughout to sit and relax. The bathrooms were very clean, which was such a plus. Perfect spot to take a walk or enjoy the scenery.
T. C — Google review
Trails are great but they did have large puddles after heavy rain. There are two separate loops, one is 1 mile long and the other is .9 miles. What I assume is to be the sledding hill is not very big (less than half the size of the one at bicentennial in Grand Blanc) but probably still large enough for kids to enjoy sledding. At the moment there is a single outhouse but maybe they will build restrooms as they develop it more. There's a large parking lot. There isn't a sign by the road so just look for the big metal gates just west of Home Depot and Assenmacher's.
Cliff E — Google review
Very flat, paved trail, with two loops each just under a mile long (~.75, ~.9 miles). Sledding hill. Whole park is VERY swampy. Expect flowing or standing water/ice on the paved trails in multiple locations (except for periods of drought) and vast quantities of mosquitoes in the warmer months. There really is no "off paved trail" possiblity of trails due to swamps. There is a small culvert bridge over a flowing stream. Garden area under construction near the front.

However, staff does not maintain the latrines very well at all. All they do is put toilet paper in them and that's about it, if that. So bring your own! They just don't drain those latrines. I know it supposed to smell bad but the piles in there are multiple feet high!
