Castle
Nestled in the heart of Saarbrücken, Saarbrücken Castle is a stunning 18th-century palace that offers visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history. This magnificent structure, originally established in the medieval era and later transformed by architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel into its Baroque style, boasts an intriguing network of underground tunnels and chambers that have been opened to the public as part of the Saar Historic Museum.
Beautiful area and castle with a crazy history. Interesting read while you are there. Take in all the area and it will blow your mind how the modern castle was used…

Not much to see as it is more modern now and just a quick place to hop out, take a picture and leave

Museum os Saar history next to the main Schliss, which is an administrative building. Nice gardens behind the schools, and a great open air restaurant by the Plaza in front of the schloss.
Mike G — Google review
I really liked the old parts of the castle, the ground is uneven, so take care but it is really worth seeing, the right amount of creepy and fun!
Nemo B — Google review
This place is a nice place to visit. Especially in the summertime. In the evening it's lit up very nice and you can sit at the nearby Biergarden or on the benches and enjoy the view of the castle. The history around it is very interesting. There's also a maze garden belonging to the garden which is a great place to relax and have a good conversation and also a nice view.

The Castle, The Museum and the church, everything that stands together and is so beautiful together.

Beautiful building and architecture. It is not what I think of when I think of castles (Prague Castle), but it is a very large Chateau (French terms). Beautiful grounds.

Specialty Museums
Saar Historical Museum, located next to Saarbrucken Castle, is a deceivingly large museum. The ground level features a narrow building from 1988, concealing historic underground chambers and tunnels excavated in the 1990s and 2000s. On the upper floors, visitors can explore the last 300 years of Saarland through art, design, and everyday items. The museum also occupies the castle's basement and a modern complex next door.
A great museum with many things to see, displaying hundreds of years worth of history. Don't be fooled by the outside, this place is huge!
Kimberly M — Google review
The history of Saarland unfolded in front of you with great and clear presentation will amaze you, The lives of people and the culture they have followed , all those tiny things related to life in old times. The history of Castle and the remains of a great architecture will truly inspire you.
Aneesha K — Google review
I highly recommend visiting the museum if you are in the areas. It takes a few hours to look through everything. It is cheap 7€ for a ticket and it very nice you get to feel to close to the ruins. Here is the downside, a lot of the signs have only German or French text. I did get approched by a staff member who could tell me more about it in English, but I personally wished I could enjoy it at my own pace rather than being "taken" through the museum. (Also I felt the WW2 / Post WW2 section was too much of the same thing, as it was just National Socialism everywhere with posters and history but nothing else)
Canadian T — Google review
This museum is a hidden gem! We felt so welcomed by the museum staff, in particular a kind and very knowledgeable staff member. He translated a lot of the German exhibits to English for our family. My 8 year old was so impressed with all of the history that the museum had. The coolest part of the museum had to be the castle that it is built over. If you are in the area it is a must see! We also loved our free euro 0€ 💶 souvenir. Oh, one more thing they have an area to hang your coats and lockers for any shopping bags you might have with you.
Ellie K — Google review
A great museum and a must visit in Saarbrücken! I spent three hours here but could have easily stayed a lot longer. There are tonnes of interesting things to read and look at. The museum is very well kept and is decently priced. I'd love to go again!
Lotte S — Google review
A really great gem in Saarbrücken. I got on with my student card for less than 5 euro. I had to put my back pack in a locker and was not allowed to take photos in some of the exhibits, but that did not impede on my enjoyment of the museum, and the staff was very friendly. I was surprised to find that the museum had so many artifacts - I did not expect a museum in Saarbrücken to be so strong. But I was so wrong! It was comparable to the history museum I visited in Metz, France. There were old castle ruins underneath the museum, artifacts from centuries and centuries ago up until the second world war (and a little beyond, too). I spent three hours there without even seeing it all.
Sophia B — Google review
A very good, comprehensive museum on the history of the region since 1870. Expect to spend 2 or 3 hours here

Ludwigskirche zu Alt-Saarbrücken is a stunning Baroque church that stands as the symbol of Saarbrucken. Commissioned in the 1760s by Prince William Henry of Nassau-Saarbrucken, this architectural masterpiece was designed by Friedrich Joachim Stengel to create a harmonious ensemble with the surrounding square. The church features statues of the four evangelists and 28 figures from biblical narratives on its balustrades.
Beautiful church and area around at any season. Inside this church is full white and that makes it unique. Nearby you can find a Biergarten. A must-visit place when traveling around the city.

Beautiful church. Almost everything inside is in white color. Awesome architecture. Recommended.
Baltazar — Google review
A beautiful Baroque church right in the heart of Saarbrücken. The square around it is impressive and the sandstone building looks amazing, especially at sunset. Inside, it’s peaceful, bright, and simple with elegant white interiors. Definitely worth a quick visit if you’re in the city to see its architecture and enjoy the calm atmosphere.
Kinan R — Google review
Exterior being renovated and was closed when I first passed by. It was open later when I passed by again, glad I got the chance to go inside
Michael W — Google review
Beautiful, interesting architecture of this historical church that has been rebuilt. Currently undergoing some renovation and cannot enter the inside as of August 2024. It's one of the nicer sights in the city though.
Paul H — Google review
This beautiful Lutheran baroque-style church is located in Old Saarbrücken, Saarland. It is considered to be one of the most important Protestant churches in Germany. The church is very different from the others with it’s beautiful architecture. The details are a to be observed from close too. What I found interesting about the church is that, from a distance, the church looks architecturally well composed and as I approached closer, the details are very striking. The buildings around the church are also very different from the church itself. A must visit place in Saarbrücken.
Prasad V — Google review
A very beautiful church in Saarbrucken. It was closed inside when I visited, but really enjoyed the outside architecture. Easy walk from the center of the city.

We went in early May, it was beautiful. The artifitial little river creates a nice landscape. Good place for running. Beautiful and difrerent kinds of ducks were also interesting. The only pity was that there was no pedal boat working.

A spacious park with lots of manicured lawns, a rose garden, a big pond and forest nearby. I wish there were more flowerbeds and the garden were fancier. If you have a company of friends it is a good place to use for the outing. There were just the 2 of us and the place seemed a little too dull. I have been to fancier parks.

Everything was fresh and delicious, and various special requests were accommodated. The kebab plate was huge, the fries were hot, and the sauces were really good. I'll be coming here more often now. (Translated by Google) The best kebab in Saarbrücken!! I was here yesterday, very spontaneously, with colleagues and friends, just before closing time. Despite the late hour, we received a very friendly welcome and excellent service. The staff very politely told us that they would of course make us something to eat, but that they would have to start cleaning up soon. It was very thoughtful of them to point this out. Even though everything outside had already been taken down, they brought out more chairs and tables for us so we could sit outside if we preferred. We didn't even ask for this; it was served openly. We were asked several times if everything was okay, and we were given our own bowl of spicy seasoning. That too, without asking. There was also time for a quick chat. The service was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and informal. Simply brilliant, despite the late hour. Huge praise, it was a great atmosphere, and we felt very comfortable. But the great service wasn't the only thing that was brilliant; the food was too. The selection of first-class dishes, vegetarian, and vegan alternatives were all original creations, as was the Saarland doner kebab. The meat was fantastic! Crispy, juicy, and incredibly deliciously seasoned. The sauces: a poem! The salad, raw vegetables, and bread were all top-quality. Everything, absolutely, was spot on! The best doner kebab in Saarbrücken and one of the best in Saarland. My new go-to spot in Saarbrücken!! (Original) Der Beste Döner in Saarbrücken!! Service also unglaublich freundlich, zuvorkommend und familär. Mein neuer Go-to-Spot in Saarbrücken!!

When visiting the Terrain de football, be prepared for some uneven underground terrain, so it's best to wear comfortable closed shoes. While the castle area may not be accessible for those in wheelchairs due to a steep flight of metal stairs at the entrance, it’s still worthwhile to explore. You can catch glimpses of the expansive moat and remnants of the former ball court from above, along with stunning windows and impressive supporting walls that tell stories of its past.
