The 49 best shopping and stores in Aix-en-Provence

An extraordinary Cezanne exhibition covering his early to later works. Tickets only available via online portal and do expect a crowd- but it is a must if in Aix. The museum’s smaller permanent exhibition is also worth a (less crowded) visit.

The temporary exhibition about Cezanne was fabulous however the organisation of the museum leaves huuuuuge space for improvement. The tickets can not be bought in the museum even if the next available slot is in the next 30 minutes. You have to buy online or in tourist office which is 700 meters away. The most ridiculous solution I’ve ever encountered in any other museum. You’re advised to come 30 minutes before just to stand in the queue. Instead of letting people enter on small groups they just put a mass of people to enter small space of the exhibition all together to make the small rooms super crowded. No logic at all. And the worst out of it is the stroller unfriendly policy! Nowhere at the stage of buying tickets online you learn strollers are not allowed. You learn it when entering museum. Parent must carry the child all the time. As I was nowhere before made aware of it I didn’t bring any baby carrier. They finallly made exception for me after consulting their head of security 🤯 the museum has lifts inside but first you need to make two round of stairs in front to enter the building which is a tough barrier for people with strollers or with wheelchairs. This all happens in France and touristic town! Shame and the difficulties they made for people with reduced mobility and first of all not informing the customer on the stage of buying ticket just spoils the whole experience. The staff also is not very helpful as this is a bother to have reduced mobility person as a visitor. Only one woman on the lower floor was actually nice. The rest was behaving as this is such a nuisance. Total disappointment and I’ve been to hundreds of museums before. 2 stars as the exhibition was first class but organisationally it’s a HORRIBLE place.

The Cezanne exhibit is fantastic and well worth the price! They've brought together a fantastic collection and traced it though his life to show the evolution of style and use of light. The price includes the rest of the collection, and it was well organized to get in with timed entry, keeping it not too busy inside. If you're lucky enough - catch it before Oct 16 :).

Wonderful space and comprehensive Cezanne expo visited in October 2025. There was a significant queue for the expo, which is reassuring! There are plenty of us still looking for beauty and inspiration in art! Will be back!

The Cezanne show was a great idea. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to truly appreciate it. We had tickets for the 12:30pm time slot and while the museum staff tried their best, people with other time slots were able to get in ahead of us. The que was in a side street that was partially closed to public but somehow people were skipping the que and going in. Once in, the museum was mobbed and there were large guided groups that monopolized the most significant pieces making it practically impossible for individuals to get close. The guide giving a lecture in front of the piece and the group (some even set up folding chairs!), took over entire rooms so those of us behind couldn’t get close. I’m sure the show was great and the city deserves kudos for a great effort but the museum needs to reconsider whether they can host individuals at the same time as they invite groups. The other issue is not the museum’s fault but a rule about it might help: photography should not be allowed when the museum is this busy. People stand in front of a piece with their phone, one after another, taking pictures of artwork that has been photographed millions of times preventing those of us behind to appreciate the work. No one is ever going to take as good a picture as the one sold in the museum shop post card or found in a book. I’m happy I was able to visit this beautiful exhibit but, unfortunately, it was not a particularly enjoyable experience.

The museum houses permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, in our case Cezanne a Jas de Bouffan 2025. The temporary exhibition was nice, the permanent one was fine but didn't entice me that much.

We went to see the Sezanne exhibition. It was really nice but unfortunately totally overcrowded although they are already limiting access with time slots. It also would have been great to understand more about the father -son relationship - the explanations were too short/ shallow and seemed contradictory at times.

We had an incredible tour with Guillaume yesterday. He showed us around the winery and then led a tasting - he was extremely knowledgable, passionate and enthusiastic about wine. He answered all of our questions and taught us so much about the entire process. What an excellent tour guide, if you can book with him, then do! The grounds and restaurant were also absolutely stunning. A 10/10 day and must do in the area!

The place is very pleasant, clean, and beautifully designed, and surrounded by vineyards, nature, and art. The facility offers seven distinct restaurants, each with its own menu and atmosphere. We had the opportunity to dine at all of them, and our overall experience was excellent. The staff was outstanding and went above and beyond to meet all our requests.

Absolutely loved it here! Art and architecture work is beautiful and well worth doing. We also had snacks and wine at La Terrace which was also great and had good vegetarian friendly options which can be difficult to come by in this region!

Magnificent and so poetic. It reminded me of the open-air museums you can find in the Hudson Valley (north of New York), except even better. Thank you for bringing this concept to France, thank you for letting people have their own journey. Also love that signage is brought to its minimum, this is how art should be experienced. <3

We stayed at Auberge La Coste in October. It was a transformational experience. It’s maybe the most gorgeous of properties not even considering the accommodations. So much thought went into the planning and experience of this spectacular cultural experience. We will recommend this heartily to anyone traveling to Provence.

Great visit to Chateau La Coste. Outside walking path of 2-3 hours with grandiose art installations and stunning views. It can get a bit steep but otherwise a comfortable hike. Enjoyed a small lunch on their terrace and a small visit to their wine shop. Highly recommend a visit!

Okay, so there is a disconnect here for me... The spaces are magnificent, they setting pastoral and charming, the architecture modern and somewhat brutalist, and staff extremely kind and knowledgeable. Where there is an issue is the art, the "art-tour" through the grounds, amd how they orchestrate the way in which you view the art, and the absolute lack of basic amenities such as available water, toilette, and basic safety items for guests. The art for the most part left me wanting more, and more of it. The Richard Serra "sculpture" I would say is am insult to hardworking metal and steel tradesmen around the world; overly simplistic and poorly placed. The Foxes by Michael Stipe were very nice, inviting and well placed, well done. The Liam Gillick "Multiplied Resistance Screened" was a lovely addition to his body of work and very inviting and situated perfectly. The shining star for me was the Tadao Ando "Pavillion of Four Cubes..." exterior was stark and brave, the entrance creepy and inviting, the darkness of the path to the interior of 4 illuminated cubes resting inside was sublime. So welll thought out and put into action. LOVELY The Prune Nourry " Mater Earth" was as expected; beautiful and large, and appropriately placed. The Frank Gehry Pavillion was very nicely done, comfortable audience seats in a natural setting, and looks like it has great acoustics for performances, but in a weird way it seemed out of place to me, but i saw it in the daylight, nighttime may have an entirely different effect. Now to some sore points. As a museum and installation fan, I am accustomed to different places and configurations for display spaces. This layout took it to another level. Spread over many acres, on trails that for some would be difficult or impossible to traverse. Couple this with the lack of ANY drinking water, at any point on the entire trail system, coupled with NO bathroom facilities save for those in the main building, these things seemed to scream a lack of respect for the customer who has paid a fee to do the long, and for 7+ months a year, HOT trail walk. I was told I could purchase a 19 Euro glass Damian Hirst water bottle at the shop and fill it up for my walk...my how generous of Lacoste! As someone who has lived part time in France for many years, would recommend this place for a visit, but I myself would not return with them for the visit. Very disappointing, because it seems as though ABSOLUTE creature comforts, and frankly safety, have been eliminated for the profit of the owners.

A very pretty and atmospheric spot in the old town. Their specialty is desserts - dessert menu is huge and really delicious! A perfect place for an afternoon tea or for a breakfast. I’m taking one star for the “mess” we have here often when sitting for food - some of the ingredients are sometimes missing and the quality of service could be improved. And be careful with planning a visit in a busy hour - the place is small and you may be unable to find a free table.

They have automated cashiers and most of times they’re closed why because no personnel present? Are you kidding me???? This would help reduce the waiting time at the cashiers. Honestly not putting my legs there again. I would go to other supermarket chains for better service. Monoprix Paris knows better how to manage their stores, learn a bit from them.

This is a great little bookstore/coffee shop in Aix en Provence, particularly if you’re looking for some English books. It has a really nice atmosphere and has been busy every time we have stopped by. We bought a number of books for teaching and they ordered some others that were not in stock. The books arrived in about ten days which was perfect for us. The staff were also quite friendly and helpful with ordering the books we needed. I definitely recommend if you want a cool place to have a coffee and browse the shelves.

We found refuge from the heat in this lovely and cozy bar which serves great freshly squeezed juices and very good cakes with a side of literature. These books can be read without having to buy. This was our favourite place in Aix-en-Provance.

We did the private session to make our own perfumes. The woman who led the session was lovely and patient. But the perfumes we made are really bad. Part of the issue was that the woman is not a professional nose and lacked training. I had made my own perfume before and it was interesting and with great explanation and guidance. Here it was: mix 4 things you like - each equal amount. We tried various combinations but it was quite arbitrary. The quality of the scents themselves is also low (which explains the low price). If you are looking for fun, it’s pleasant, but if you are looking to make good perfume, it’s not it.

Rose et Marius has a beautiful shop in a convenient location in Aix-en-Provence. The very nice young woman staffing the shop on the day of our visit (a Monday morning) eagerly helped us under less than ideal conditions: her English was not fluent, my French was jet-lagged, and my husband does not speak French at all. Out of all of the Hermes stores I have visited, the Aix location is by far the best (and it seems like many others agree). The atmosphere is calm and warm - I never feel rushed. Every time I visit with my family - the staff is unbelievably kind. They don’t care if I come in wearing casual or formal wear - even from the first time we entered the store when they didn’t know us yet. There are a lot of other fashion houses (and even other Hermes stores) that have a stuffy and pretentious attitude until you swipe your credit card - but in Aix they don’t care who you are, they will always treat you with respect and help you with kindness no matter how big or small your purchase is. They uphold the love for the craftsmanship of the brand and want the customer to also appreciate the artisan work - not just because it’s branded Hermes. Aix is the only store we will ever shop at. I always text my SA before we visit and he is very diligent at getting back to me on what is available - if you visit this store, ask for Tanguy. He is the best I have ever worked with EVER. He keeps communication open and frequent. He always knows what I will like, and he is laid back while also keeping professionalism. First time trying callisons (a must when in Aix) - soft textured almondy candies that were strangely delicious (and mindblowingly expensive, although to be fair, all callisons were). A lot of beautifully designed boxes to choose from for your mix and match.

We followed the advice of the very nice lady in the Aix tourism office and took the 25 minute walk to Santons Fouque. We spent an hour there marveling at the amazing figurines and other items that the Fouque family creates. We fell in love with a modestly sized crèche and watched and conversed with Mr. Fouque as he carefully packed our crèche for travel. He then gave us a detailed demonstration of his meticulous process of forming and painting his figures. One might balk at the prices he asks for his work but after we experienced his “tour” we think our purchase was a bargain. As we departed we visited the absolutely incredible display of thousands of figurines and structures all integrated into a beautiful village scene. This is something that must not be missed.

The santons are being made here , by the family through generations . There are different sizes , and several new creations each year . On the other side of the garden you can see a traditional provencal christmas setting , with the santons and the provence house decorations .

All figures are individual pieces of art, painted by experienced artists, worth a visit and of course buy at least one of their figures!

Callison Parli is the original and authentic shop for everything Callison, chocolates and preserved fruit. Staff is super friendly and do their best to provide explanations and advice. Even showed how Callison are made. English is excellent. Tried several samples. The shop is located five minutes walking from Place Mirabeau, a little bit off the main market area. Got a nice book as a gift. Definitely a must visit.

Amazing candies— best in the city! Be sure to drop in for some amazing samples too. Truly felt pampered.

The oldest, most authentic calisson and sweet maker in Aix. Worth a visit just for the beautifully decorated building and warm welcome from the very friendly staff. But taste the chocolates, candied fruit, and other goodies and you wont be disappointed. All hand made with traditional methods to very high standards. In the summer they make the best artisanal ice cream in Aix. A must if you want to visit and taste the real Provence.

The BEST marmalade and Calissons in Aix. On top of that, the people in the shop are so kind and helpful. Such a delight!

A real gem in the heart of Aix! We received a warm and friendly welcome, with excellent advice from Michael, the assistant, who guided us perfectly in our choice of wine and the cheese–charcuterie board. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The shop is spotless and tastefully arranged, offering a superb selection of fine cheeses, wines, and spices. My husband and I each had a fantastic lunch there the other day. Emaline was a great waitress and spoke English very well. Do try the truffle honey everyone loves-it was delicious and we bought a little jar to go. Wish we didn’t live an ocean away. We would go every week I think.

The platter for two is quite big (we couldn’t finish it) and they’ll refill your bread when you ask. There’s also a restaurant upstairs if you prefer a sit-down experience.

For cheese lovers - one of my favourite restaurants in Aix - have been coming here for several years. Food, wine and service consistently excellent. Good vegetarian options available. Good for a meal (group or couple), or for cheese and charcuterie platters with wine.

Loved this place ! The atmosphere was really nice, the raclette was big enough for 2 people for sure but I didn't really like the accompanied cold cuts to be honest. They have a decent fruit and vegetables section which is nice and they have a wide verity of packed meat and fish. The basmati rice and fresh coriander can be bought from here at the best price. They’ve there own parking so don’t worry about it.
