Street Market in winter is the best way to explore the place. This market displays the rich culture of the area. There are so many authentic products on display that you will be tempted to purchase something for sure. There are many stores selling knitwear, one can spot Tibetan women knitting gloves, scarfs and other items while entertaining customers. There are also many stores selling beads and rosaries. Apart from that, one can find previous stones and jade rollers, Crockery, restaurants and cafes.

I suggest you to walk through the market without any vehicle, else you will stuck in traffic. The price is reasonable. The path of the market is so good & pleasant. Must visit in the evening.

Always a delight visit the holiness place. This time I also attended his lifelong ceremony with a bunch of tibetans and renowned scholars who happened to visit this ceremony and seek his blessings from all over the world. Such a delight to witness him and this ceremony in person and feel a surge of true spiritual energy, even with more than 1000 people around. I guess it's the holiness in Dharamshala effect.

A peaceful and spiritually uplifting place. I visited the Dalai Lama Temple in McLeod Ganj and was fortunate to be there while prayers were going on. Our family visited this Budhist Dalai Lama temple (also known as Theckchen Choeling Buddha Vihar) on 24 October 2025. There is no entry fees. There is a residential venue of Dalai Lama, in front of the temple complex. It has a Beautiful, calm, quiet, serene, religious atmosphere with excellent infrastructure for religious ceremony and meditation.

It is very beautiful temple of His Highness The 14 th Dalai Lama. He stays in the temple area and gives sermons to his disciples whenever he is in Mcleodgang. There is adequate security in the area and common people can see the temple with ease and comfort. You get spiritual experience whenever you visit this temple. There are statues of Tibetan Saints in the complex and one experiences utmost peace and tranquility in the temple. You can see The 14th Dalai Lama in the temple whenever he is in Mcleodganj and gives sermons. One must visit the temple whenever one visits Dharamshala.

The shop is not so big but I like to say that the shop is very big(The meaning is so darker)but the shops owner is very nice man.(His two children's are so nice,and his wife is so beautifull.l'll give 5 stars to service,5 stars to atmosphere,5stars to food .

Loved the place and food was so yummy. We ordered fried rice and chicken bokchoy. The flavors were all perfectly balanced. Must visit. The ambience is very cozy. Perfect place to hang out with friends or if you want to curl up with a book.

The food here is really good. We tried fried rice along with Chinese spicy pork. The pork was really good. Also tried xioa long bao, not very good. Next day again we went for brunch. Had latte was 👍. Again ordered fried rice, chinese spicy pork and Dawa meat fry in Beijing sauce. The meat fry was sweet and perfect as a starter.

A friend suggested this place to me and I decided to drop in. It's a woman owned business. All the ladies are sweet and the service is fast. The ambience is a 10/10 especially the fireplace and the lil trinkets around the place. I liked their food. It was decent and surprisingly not as expensive as most of the places in the market are. If you are in McLeod do visit this place.

This was the spot we felt most comfortable in, and read and relaxed for a few hours. Delicious food and tea, a thoughtful and considered menu that finds authentic and common ground with Tibetan, Indian and Chinese cuisines, housed within a beautifully decorated interior with excellent facilities. We felt right at home, and the intentions of the place as “common ground” could be felt. There were excellent meetings and conversation of people of all kinds taking place in this special, hillside spot on the walk down from Dharamkot to Mcleodganj.

Beautiful place, cozy and comfortable. Opportunity to try different food in McLeod, most of the dishes are based in Taiwanese and Chinese cuisine but not traditional. Because of the explanation in the menu I expected to eat a very traditional dishes but wasn’t 100% same in taste. But very good experience and good food.

Great place with great food, excellent coffee and lovely owners and staff! I’ve tried few vegan options, and would recommend their tofu scramble breakfast and PB&J sandwich. Well, and coffee as well! The atmosphere is good and cozy, where you can relax, and unwind. Overall a great place. Thanks

If you came to explore Dharamshala, then it is a place that should be on your list to visit. Inside there are paintings and stuff that tells us about this city like how it was at the time of independence and British Raj, tells us about their culture and history. Beautiful Art Museum. A must visit place for every tourists. Tourists can meet there engaged in live painting and art. It is preserving the heritage of Himachal. My suggestion for the Museum authority is that they should have a audio visual session for the tourists to explain the importance of local art and craft

I recently visited the Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala and it was a deeply satisfying experience. Tucked near Kotwali Bazaar, the museum sits gracefully on a small rise with views of the lush Kangra Valley around it . Inside, I spent nearly two hours walking through halls filled with over 1,500 artifacts—ancient Kangra-style miniature paintings, Tibetan and Buddhist sculptures, old manuscripts, tribal jewellery, pottery, royal tents, coins, and even handcrafted wood carvings . The detail in the Kangra paintings is extraordinary: natural hues made from floral pigments and painstaking brushwork bring mythological and local scenes to life . There’s a calm and focused atmosphere inside, perfect for art lovers or anyone curious about Himachal’s rich cultural heritage. Information boards next to exhibits made the experience educational, and there’s a small library and rotating displays of contemporary artists and photographers too . Photography is restricted in most areas, which adds to the peaceful ambiance—if you'd like a photo you'll need to buy a camera ticket (nominal fee) or shoot from outside . The building itself follows traditional Himachal-style architecture and is well-kept. There’s a small souvenir section offering postcards and catalogues if you’d like to take home something meaningful . Visitor parking is available nearby, though space can fill up during popular hours—better to come early . Open Tuesday through Sunday from around 9 or 10 am until late afternoon (5–7 pm depending on the day) and closed on Mondays and holidays—so plan accordingly . The ticket price is 50 per adult. It is a small museum. It has mainly a collection of paintings in the Kangra art style. It has a few sculptures and archaeological finds. The paintings are not by famous artists. It is probably by the students who are trained in the Kangra art style. It is a museum specific to this region and therefore it is a place good for visit. However, compared to other museums in other parts of India it doesn’t compare. I don’t wish to stay that you shouldn’t visit this museum. You should. Just to get a feel of this region.

Unless you are a total lover of historical art please don’t go. I’m not sure if the art lovers will also like it. Very small and basic museum with nothing exceptional. They charge extra for photography which is much worth for properly keeping these arts. Please must pay extra for photography. It took us max 20 min to go through the entire museum. The staff is very friendly and interested. It was a purely utilisation of valuable time and money. This place is dedicated exclusively for maintaining and preserving Kangra art and culture which has become extinct now . Its a must visit place , a peep into the past Painstaking collection and well documented history of over 7000 years with photographs manuscripts, Artifacts. The tree all the way down to the current descendent is fascinating. A short visit is a must do in DHARAMSHALA

One time watch place specially if u want to know how the tea ☕garden🏡 look like.

I placed an online order, paid for it, but never received any confirmation and had no way to track my purchase. To resolve this, I called the helpline number provided. Someone answered and introduced himself as the “manager of the estate.” When I asked about order confirmation or tracking, his response was simply “I don’t know, I don’t handle this — I mannage the estate.” When I asked if there was any automated system, his in Hindi, “Mujhe nahi pata, main yeh sab thodi dekhte rahoonga.” What shocked me most was the very rude tone throughout the conversation — not just indifferent, but outright dismissive and unprofessional. For a company that markets itself as premium, this kind of behavior is unacceptable. Customers deserve basic courtesy and proper support, especially after making a payment.

I stumbled across Marleen‘s gift shop at the last minute before leaving McLeod . Had a great experience purchasing few gifts along with a hearty conversation. She is a lovely person and helped me make right purchases through her thoughtful suggestions. Everything is priced right and I believe could be the best price anywhere in the market around. All items have fixed price and makes the shopping experience smooth. If I ever go back, would love have a chat with her and buy few more things.

The energy of this space and Marleen are so great that I come here everytime I visit Mcleodganj. I know I will find beautiful tokens from this shop to take away as either gifts or to give them space in my home. Her collection and knowledge are mind blowing.

Invest in quality items from this Tibetan artisinal co-operative with a history of 45 years. All items here are crafted by Tibetans, have a fixed price but I especially loved the carpets. These luxurious hand-crafted carpets are made by a co-operative of women, so each carpet purchased directly benefits the Tibetan refugees living in exile. Stunning designs which include Tibetan Buddhist and Tibetan cultural motifs. The quality of these hand-crafted carpets are excellent. I've bought carpets in Agra and these are just as lush and thick, but the prices are fair and FIXED - there's no haggling over "tourist" prices. The designs are distinctly Tibetan and the colours are incredibly vibrant. This co-op employs women from the local Tibetan community, so the supply and production are completely ethical, transparent and fair. I was absolutely thrilled with the service, kindness and ethical sourcing of the carpets I saw in the production/ showroom. They also custom-make designs using your choice of colours, and these can be sent overseas, also at a fair price. I was lucky to find carpets I loved in the showroom and I purchased 3 carpets from the Tibetan Handicrafts Centre. I found them all to be of the highest quality, with the wool and finishing to match those I found in Agra and some I have seen at auction houses in Sydney. I was also fortunate enough to have the history of this cooperative explained to me by the very kind Mr Tamding Tsering. Mr Tamding Tsering is the Production Manager here at the carpet cooperative, and he has been working here since its inception in 1962! Photos attached show the progression of the co-op since 1962. The very first photos show women using the looms in an outdoor space, skillfully creating exquisite carpets in the open air. After some organising, on the 11th of April 1963, 45 Tibetan ladies formally started the "Women's Carpet Handicraft" and each of the ladies had a share of 117.40 rupees in this cooperative. The Dalai Lama's private office donated 5000 rupees to help this initiative, and 2 teachers loaned 1474 rupees (without interest) and funds from Tibetan Home Affairs Office brought the original investment of this co-op to 14257 rupees. This seems paltry by today's standards, but at that time, it meant empowerment and agency. With this initial funding, they were able to build a shed, next to a smaller building which served as a mess hall for the women. 1969 May 7 - the co-op was then registeredas an official cooperative expanding the cooperative (Registration #315) with an Indian export license FT-000115. The Dalai Lama visited them in 1976 and blessed the co-op. This place has history, and HEART. At the height of this artisanal co-op in 1970's, there were about 300 women employed. Now there are 30 women who work these looms and create future heirloom-quality carpets. The diminishing knowledge of this skill and future scarcity is what makes these carpets even more valuable. Each carpet is already a work of art, hand-made by skillful artisans who are sharing their heritage and history. If you want to buy something of irreplaceable value and to give back to the Tibetan community in exile, please invest in one of these beautiful pieces of art.

How does this place not have more reviews!? This place was brilliant! Please buy your souvenirs from here rather than the other shops on the street because you’re actually supporting exiled Tibetans working here. They can make you carpets, wooden chests/coffee tables with carvings & they sell plenty of Tibetan trinkets that are pocket friendly too! The people working here were so friendly and were extremely happy to explain all about the items sold, Tibetan arts, prayer wheels and their mantras. The guy even gave me some pamphlets to take away describing in detail all about my purchases. Please please definitely give this place a visit when you go!

Went to check if they have a small lamp for prayer, the Tibetan lady at the counter is very arrogant and responded with very rude attitude and very bad energy. Will not go there again and will not recommend to my friends. I better spend my hard earn money with kind people. Such a shame to behave like this in a spiritual place where his holiness lives.

We thought about buying many carpets, going back and forth then finally settled on 3 smaller ones. This was surely not easy, but Tamding was amazingly patient through it all. This is a great shop that supports a great cause. Highly reccomend it if you want a souvenir. Plus they also do custom orders!! Amazing. Thanks so much! We love our carpets!

I had gone along with my friends to see local Tibetan books. The shop keeper, upon being asked about books lacked any knowledge and said “Please search it yourself”, and played loud music on his Logitech speakers. We then asked if we can take some bookmarks and he lashed out at us and shouted at us for NO REASON. Taken aback, we decided to leave but the Tibetan owner kept swearing and said racist things, in a place where practises of Buddhism teaches us to be kind to guests. This kind of a behaviour is unacceptable and degrading of Tibetan culture, and for the same reason request all tourists to avoid this bookstore due to terrible environment and lack of collection. We liked Tibet Book Store as it’s alternative and highly recommend it.

I, along with 2 friends, had gone to Bookworm store to search for Buddhism-related books. Upon asking the shop owner, he said “I don’t know, search for it yourself” in an accent. Perturbed, me and my friends were looking at bookmarks and that’s when the owner, without any provocation, started speaking loudly & began shouting and swearing at us, for no reason. We asked him to stop shouting, and understand what did we do wrong, but he started swearing profusely & said “This is my property!” “You don’t even know where you come from!”, and similar racist things like this. Being tourists we left the place in tears, saddened to be treated like insects by someone who is himself a guest in my country. I have never come across Tibetan people like him, and this has left a lasting impression of Tibetan culture towards Indians. I request any and all to avoid going to this bookshop and report his behavior to the local police as being mentally unstable, dangerous and harmful.

It was quite a messy experience owing to the behavior, rather misbehavior of the owner. The owner had some twisted pre-conceived notions which made him yell at us without any reason and threatened to throw us out of the bookshop as we were glancing through the books- only because it was taking us a couple of minutes to decide which one to purchase. The city is beautiful but such frustrated beings spoil the mood and ambiance.

Had an exceptionally bad experience. After spending 10 mins in the shop, the owner for literally no reason threatened us to throw out of the shop. While his friend very respectfully asked us to not indulge in any argument with him, he kept on shouting at us and used very harsh language. We tried to apologise for some unknown mistake we committed but his language was intolerable. At a place so peaceful and happy, such an experience was completely unexpected.

Moonpeak deli has delicious food, with homemade brown sourdough and delicious house made curries and hummus. I came back here many times during my trip in McLeod Ganj and enjoyed the ambience, the staff and the acceptance they had for me to hang for hours (literally), read my book and watch the McLeod Ganj streets go by. I highly recommend eating the Thali and endless ginger lemon honey tea! Thanks guys, you were an anchor for me during my two weeks in McLeod Ganj.

One of the worst cafes to visit, especially in a tourist attraction. I ordered grilled chicken and all they did was made a bland gravy with chicken breasts filled with raisins and absolutely no spice. A very eurocentric place, wouldn't recommend.

A really nice, stylish and clean cafe right in the middle of town, near the Dalai Lama’s Temple. Seating is available on the small terrace outside next to the main road and inside. They have a snacks, beverages, cakes and other goodies at reasonable prices. Highly recommended this place

This is my favourite cafe in Mcleodganj. Their coffee is amazing. We had the spinach and cheese omelette, it was superb. Its a small cafe with minimal staff, so the service can be slightly slow. But the food is worth the wait!

One of the best places I visited and spent time at in McLeodganj. Lovely staff, excellent food and wonderful vibes. It is a must-visit. Try their omelette fromage and omelette smoked chicken! Their drinks are All good. And finally must try their almond cake.

Established in 1980 it the first Tea shops in Dharamkot. They serve decent breakfast eggs sandwich, prantha and bakery including tibetan rolls, sour dough bread and butter crossiants at very competitive prices compared to the fancy looking shops down in Macleod ganj. Their masala tea is just out of this world. You can get some of your daily needs products, including drinks, biscuits, jams, sauces, sneaker bars, tooth pastes, wet wipes, kids diapers, sanitary pads. place is for you if you are a student, traveller on a budget, guest houses around the shop are available to rent. The owner of the shop is a very down to earth guy who knows the area well as he has been running the joint for the last 40years or so.

This is a magic shop they seem to have everything and still doesn’t look commercial at all. We ended up here at least thrice in our 4 days stay fell in love with the most delectable home style paranthas, tea and cinnamon rolls . The owner / servers are so humble and warm.

Small yet awesome. Great variety of snacks and drinks are available, and food is served fresh. And there are the cutest and quietest dogs here. This place provides a relief zone for trekkers and travellers, and is adjacent to the Vipassna and Tushita Centre. Their maggi and omelette are superb!

This lies exactly between the McLeodGanj taxi stand and zostel. A nice place to stop in between and have tea if you are hiking up or down. The owner is a sweet person and he makes deliz ginger tea. Tea priced at 15rs :)

If you want to find something interesting and different than the other restaurants in the area, you have found the spot. The food here is well thought about. Healthy, gluten free options. They dont use refined oils, white sugar or white flour which is amazing. I got the breakfast plate, it was really really good but I do think the portions could be bigger honestly. I ate and I still felt hungry. But, otherwise its a really nice spot for healthy food.

I had read about The Tibetan Thanka Shop on Jogiwara Road, Mcleodganj on google- On my trip to Mcleodganj, I visited virtually all the shops on temple road & around & finally went here . Amrit was not only very helpful but also very knowledgeable. The artistry was intricate & the prices were the best across this area. What I really appreciated was the customization I could do as regards the brocade borders . Very thankful to have picked up some beautiful thankas for my home . A must visit place and a one stop shop for all the variety he has. Highly recommend this shop.
