Ek Phnom Pagoda is a fascinating site located just over 11km from Battambang. It features a modern pagoda and a large sitting Buddha statue, set against the backdrop of an 11th-century temple in ruins. The eerie atmosphere of the temple's jumbled stones and pillaged carvings gives visitors the feeling of stumbling upon a hidden secret ruin. Nearby, Phnom Sampuove offers natural beauty with its temples, natural wells, and picturesque mountains.
Saturday 11th October: Nice temple to visit, as you stand in front of it look right and you see the ruined temple, very similar to those seen at Angkor Wat. (You can't miss it to be fair) Well worth a stop off, some interesting plants and animals at the ruined temple
Alan H — Google review
It’s a nice pagoda, pretty much the same as the structures you would find at Angkor Wat and other temples from the Angkor Period. There’s also a little shrine inside the pagoda. You do have pay to get in. I find this p,ace to be one of those places you go and see it one time and you’re good. There’s no tour guide or anything from what I saw when I came. Hardly any people on a weekday.
Timothy T — Google review
Wat Ek Phnom, an 11th century Angkorian Hindu temple. Easily accessible with a few wooden steps to climb and only about a 15 minute ride from Battambong's city center. Unfortunately, most walls have collapsed and looted, but still a nice place to visit since there aren't many visitors. Wat Ek Phnom has many shady Bodhi trees and large tamarind and milk fruit trees, making it an ideal place to seek relief from the heat, and if you look closely, you'll see many pendulum bird nests among the large trees (near the front of the ruins). You can also stroll around the moat of wat Ek Phnom and the temple ground. You're visiting a place of worship, so dress appropriately and be respectful.
Amie K — Google review
I had the best time here. Walkies around the pagoda and temple ruins were super duper. $1 USD entry.
Jesse T — Google review
Very cool temple to see. There’s both a new temple and some ruins which are older than Angkor wat, according to our tuk tuk driver. It was $1 per person which is fair enough if they have to maintain the place.
Noah T — Google review
Definitely worth the visit! The entry was 4000KHR or $1 It wasn’t busy at all, when we visited there were only two other people there other than the locals. It’s a temple from the 1100s in quite a bad condition, but definitely fascinating. There is a modern temple right in front of it and a big Buddha just to the side.
Sam H — Google review
We enjoyed our visit here as there is an old temple from I think the 1100s. This Temple is not in very good condition but that is what makes it interesting. Take the time and walk through it, its amazing, took lots of pics. There is also a newer temple and a large statue of a huge buddha. Definitely worth visit, I think the cost was a dollar. 3btraveler

2Bamboo Train Battambang

Railway services
When visiting Battambang, one of the must-try experiences is the Bamboo Train. This unique attraction offers a fun and inexpensive way to explore the countryside while enjoying the breeze on your face. The open bamboo platform rides along an old track, providing a glimpse of rural life. It's important to note that there are multiple bamboo train locations in the area, so be sure to visit the original one near the city. The ride typically lasts around 30 minutes and costs 10 USD per person.
I had low expectations for the bamboo train due to all the negative reviews. But I had a free day to explore and figured might as well try it. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved it. We had the whole train to ourselves. Not another tourist in sight. We were here during low tourist season. Yes, it can get really loud, but it didn't bother us. I can see why it would, though, if you have sensitive ears. It doesn't feel like the safest thing in the world. In fact, when we took off the first time and accelerated to max speed, I was sure we were going to fly off the tracks. But that's all part of the experience. A lot of people talk about being exposed to the sun the entire time, and yeah, I can see how that wouldn't be much fun. Fortunately, for us, it was overcast during the first 90 percent of the ride. The final 10 percent it rained like crazy on us. We got drenched, but it was such a fun experience. No one asked for a tip, but in retrospect, I wish I had given one. Our driver was super friendly. The end happened so fast. They were quickly breaking the train down and running to cover while we were simultaneously running to a tuk tuk. By the time I thought about tipping, we were already on the road heading home. A lot of people talk about being pressured to tip. I don't think that's okay, but I do think a tip is definitely warranted. The locals totally deserve it. I still feel really bad that I didn't tip myself. 😢
Zak — Google review
Not at all what I would imagine a ‘bamboo train’ to look like. Powered by a motor, so it’s incredibly loud and not relaxing. It doesn’t take you anywhere particularly interesting. For $5 there are much more fun things to do in the area. This was a massive waste of time for me.
Jamie N — Google review
During my weekend in Battambang, this was my favorite thing. The ingenuity of the Khmer people to use the train tracks for their personal use with just a flat frame, some wheels and a motor is awesome. I loved the the ride and I love the out of the box thinking they people did.
Brian P — Google review
Such a fun way to see Cambodia. We came in late September, nearing the end of rainy season, so it was especially green and beautiful!! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen or bring a hat ☀️🌾🛤️🇰🇭
Lily-Jane — Google review
The Bamboo Train is definitely a novelty visit. Expected something a little more than seeing the back of properties though. Still made a nice break from travelling from sire to site. Very clever use of what they have
Alan H — Google review
Such a fun activity in Battambang - take a ride on the bamboo trains. It lasts around 30 mins and you get to see some lovely views across rice fields and local villages. It costs $5 per person to ride - they do encourage you tip the driver at the end so be prepared for this as some groups were caught off guard with this. Bring a hat / sunnies / sun cream - it is out in the open and no shade. Lots of fun though and worth doing when visiting Battambang
Eloise C — Google review
The ride takes about 30 minutes and runs on an active train track, which adds a bit of excitement. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. It’s overpriced, poorly organised, and constantly interrupted—you have to stop mid-ride, get off, while thet physically remove your cart to let others pass. Worst of all, at the end they demand a tip, and when someone in our group gave one, they said it wasn’t enough and asked for more. You’re better off grabbing a coffee at the train café and watching the carts and trains go by from the bridge (see video)
Connor M — Google review
Such a cool experience riding the bamboo train! I thought it would be slow, but it’s actually not at all and it’s completely safe. The 30-minute ride is so much fun! It costs $2.50 for Khmer and $5 for foreigners, or you can get a private bamboo train for just $10. Don’t forget to leave a tip, they always appreciated. Definitely don’t miss this place!

Bat Cave Phnom Sampov is a must-see destination in Battambang. Locals have set up tables and chairs for visitors to enjoy the spectacular view of bats flying out of the cave between 5:30 to 6 pm, while sipping on refreshing drinks. Nearby, there's a temple and killing cave that are worth visiting before witnessing the bat flight.
Very cool to see all the bats flying out. Unfortunately for us the videos and photos don’t do it justice as the bats didn’t arrive until 15 minutes after sunset at about 18:40. Would be better if it was still daylight/dusk. Don’t let that put you off though it’s still very cool to see this event. People start gathering around 17:30 waiting to see the bats
Olly S — Google review
An unforgettable experience at Phnom Sampov’s Bat Cave! Visiting the Bat Cave near Battambang was one of the most magical and unexpected highlights of my trip to Cambodia. Just before sunset, I arrived at the base of Phnom Sampov and was greeted by friendly locals offering snacks and drinks while pointing me toward the best viewing spots. As the sun dipped behind the horizon, millions of bats began streaming out of the cave in a mesmerizing ribbon across the sky. It felt like watching nature’s own choreography—fluid, endless, and strangely peaceful. The spectacle lasted for nearly half an hour, and I was amazed by how organized the flow of bats seemed. The sound, the movement, and the sheer volume were breathtaking. What made it even more special was the backdrop: golden rice fields, limestone cliffs, and the silhouette of the mountaintop pagoda. I also recommend climbing Phnom Sampov earlier in the day to explore the Killing Caves and the temple at the summit. The history is sobering, but the views are worth the effort. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or just curious traveler, this place is a must-see. Bring a camera, wear comfortable shoes, and prepare to be awed.
Sor M — Google review
Bat cave was a great experience… the bats were never ending! However, what I loved was climbing the mountain and seeing the beautiful view of BB from the top 🌅🌾 LOTS of people, we couldn’t get a PassApp back to our hotel as there were no drivers nearby.
Lily-Jane — Google review
Come in the evening for bats before the sunset. Has some places to drink and eat + night market. Not far from the Phnom Sampov temple and killing caves.
Kyrylo S — Google review
I didn’t stay until evening to see the bats, but the daytime visit was already beautiful! The Buddhist carvings and the giant Buddha statue on the mountain are really impressive and peaceful. The place feels calm with amazing natural scenery. It’s a nice spot to learn about local culture, take photos, and enjoy the view. I’ll come back again next time to see the bats flying out at sunset! 🌄

Saturday 11the October: Nice experience to sit and watch millions of bat's exit the cave at dusk It does get busy around the seats in front of the caves with tourists and locals Still plenty of space to enjoy nature at it's finest, well worth the visit.
Alan H — Google review
If you want to see the bat cave in Battambang, here you go! Thousands of bat flying out at the evening! You can also take a car riding to the mountain just around 2.5$-3$ per person! Local food selling around that too..
Ratha R — Google review
Great to see all the bats flying out of the caves - there’s a few bars around that you can sit at and watch them come out (get there earlier to get a seat). You don’t need to book in advance, we just paid entrance on the door. It does get very busy from 5:15/5:30pm so get there a bit before to get a good spot and not to be rushed around as the bats come out any time from 5:45-6pm

The project also includes an art school and kindergarten for children. Visitors can support the cause through a monthly sponsorship program. Many are deeply moved by the students' performances and find the experience incredibly meaningful.
This was a wonderful acrobatic circus experience put on by students of the arts academy. Our family greatly enjoyed the skill displayed, the paintings and drawings, and found some nice gifts in their shop also.

The vibe was INCREDIBLE. We had to visit after seeing the Siem Reap circus and it was so interesting to watch these talented student improve and although some tricks may have taken two tries, it was so inspiring to see their improvement and dedication to the show

This is an ABSOLUTE must when in Battambang. The phare “campus” is packed with great energy and the show just keeps delivering. Get into the tent around 18:45-18:50 and get some education on phare and why and how it all started, and why there’s a giant Guinness sign in the campus. And please leave a donation at the end. Tips: Drinks from the cafe can be brought into the show, and since it will be warm it is nice to hydrate a little. Many hotels sell tickets/vouchers, saves you from cash payments and just add to the hotel bill They sell shirts, drawing, paintings and lots more that help support the cause Tips = donation And to all volunteers, thank you!

Had a great time seeing the students perform in the big top. The campus is beautiful and I loved seeing the exhibit before the show and learning about the programs the students are involved in. The students are so professional and the 'Rouge' so was incredibly moving. This is a must do evening if you are visiting Battambang!

Phare, the Cambodia circus. Great show, friendly staff. All the students there are really talented. Each month have their own schedule show. FYI: no plastic allowed in the place.

Great performance by the students of Phare circus. Even though their moves/stunts are not always perfect but their effort and determination are admirable. You can also book for a school tour in the day and come see the show in the evening at 7pm. It’s a great way to support these kids so that they can have good education and learn a skills which they can make a living.

Watched both siem reap circus(by professional graduates) and batambong circus(by undergraduate). Batambang Circus; performers make mistakes on stage, but the audience love the entertainment. Performers will make the show comical and very candid about it. Love it! The instruments are made of pipes, Slippers, pot and pans. So creative! If you want a PERFECT performance, don't go. Bare in mind performers are taught with limited resources and from difficult situations. Support the circus school which provide Free education and a livelihood skills to the community.

Wow very nice to visit the place. There are a lot of amazing performances done by most vulnerable children. They are so talented that they can do such really great things. I really love the circus team here. They are so cool. What a great team! If we visit Battambang, you must not miss it.

Amazing, show with a mix of acrabatics, dance (classic and modern), and matching music. Its defintelty worth seeing rising talents perfecting their craft. Went to see a circus performance based on the Khmer Rouge routine at there school campus. Was wonderfully well thought out with some fantastic tumbling and creative use of props to tell the story. The profits from the shows go to funding other aspects of the school such as their graphic arts and animation programs. Great seeing a smaller scale circus for a great cause.

Step into the past with a visit to Mrs. Bun Roeung’s Ancient House, one of the few heritage houses in Wat Kor village, Cambodia. This stilted wooden house, surrounded by lush orchards and palm trees, offers tours in English and French. The 100-year-old house is filled with family artifacts and vintage furniture, providing a glimpse into traditional Cambodian living. Visitors can explore the ancient kitchenware from the 1900s and learn about Khmer livelihood at that time.
Lots of history shared by the host during my visit. It was bittersweet knowing that so many people used this amazing house as the only source for water during Khymer Rouge reign of terror.

Well preserved and beautiful Cambodia ancient house! However the ticket price for local seems to be overpriced. The house keeper welcomed the foreign tourists and local in different ways.

Well preserved wooden house with lots of history. Friendly and welcoming owner/guide.
Oscar L — Google review
Phenomenal sad story of the background but a testament to the resilience of the modern day survivors. Good short history tour of background of styles of houses. Worth a visit.
Mick C — Google review
I was kindly shown around individually by the owner to save me waiting for 40 minutes for the next group to arrive. It cost $2 which I thought was reasonable. It took about 20 minutes to tell me about the place and then I was free to wander around on my own and take photos. I was not pressured into buying any souvenirs. The house is old and was built in 1920 so we would not call it ancient; something slightly amiss with the translation. It was interesting but do not make it a priority. Fit it in if you have nothing else to see.
Ian M — Google review
+ The house is extremely old, yet magnificent, and it's a real chance to be able to visit such a beautiful architecture, filled with ancient artefacts. - The unpleasant part was the way we were absolutely rushed through a mechanical 7 minutes top visit (with absolutely no other visitor around), and given a presentation uttered robot like, emotionless. We weren't authorised to take photos while the woman was talking, and ordered to do so after she would be done. I'm not sure we saw the whole house, as there are pics of an ancient bed in the previous reviews, that never appeared while visiting. I bought a small Khmer scarf in the shop section for my son, so maybe that's why we weren't asked the 2 dollars previous reviews mention as a "mandatory fee". Overall and even though the visit could be rushed, I would still recommend it for the sake of this well preserved traditional rich Khmer house. But how wonderful it would be to feel that the guide was actually pleased to share its History...
Gabrielle N — Google review
The owners are really nice and they describe briefly about the history of the house really well. The entrance is free, but you can buy some souvenirs or donate to support them. I am really interesting in their old furnitures.

Wat Samrong Knong, situated 6 kilometers north of Battambang province in Cambodia, is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts. The temple has a poignant past, having been under the control of the Khmer Rouge and serving as a site where thousands of locals and war criminals were executed. Dating back to the 19th century, the temple complex showcases an intriguing blend of pagodas, ancient ruins, and memorial shrines.
Free to visit and very few tourists around in the afternoon. A fairly large complex. Do some research before rocking up so you understand the place. Otherwise it’s just another set of temples. Beware of children asking you for money. You are more likely to come across young kids just wanting high fives or asking to chat so they can learn more English but the odd group do ride/walk around asking for money. They should be at school so it’s not ideal to support begging.

If you have a chance to visit Battambang province in Cambodia, wat Samraong Knong should be on your visiting list. This Buddhist temple has evolved through out the history of Cambodia. This place has aged around 300 years old, but the architecture continues to shine with the golden preah vihear. You can also see the alignment with Khmer Rouge regime as well. It is definitely worth it to visit there. I highly recommend everyone. Feel free to contact or learn more from Provincial Department of Tourism of Battambang. In addition, if you want to deep dive into Cambodian history, genocide, killing field, this place is for you.

Samroung Knong is one of the oldest pagodas in Battambang, and very likely among the oldest across Cambodia. Founded in 1707, it has stood for centuries, witnessing the nation’s changing history. The pagoda endured through the Oudong Era, the French Protectorate, Cambodia’s Independence, the Republic of Khmer, and, most tragically, its transformation into an Angkar Center during the Khmer Rouge regime. Today, Samroung Knong remains an important cultural and historical site. It is known for its surviving old brick temple, which reflects centuries of Khmer craftsmanship, as well as its unique architectural features that distinguish it from other pagodas in the region. Visitors not only come to admire its beauty but also to reflect on its deep historical significance and the resilience of Cambodian heritage.

Lots of history, which can be quite upsetting for some . Arriving with a tour, tuk tuk or on your own, you feel like there is no one around. I would suggest at least taking a knowledgeable driver or doing research about the temples and the rich Cambodian history before arriving . It is definitely not a simple place where people come only to take pictures. There is so much more to it.

They were putting up new years decor so it was a little blocked off, still a cool temple and also has a room with a torture museum which was interesting to read but so sad. It’s also located next to a killing field and there is a lot of information to read on the Khmer Rouge.

An ancient Buddhist pagoda. The former main temple is on the process of putting its name into the World Heritage list. The temple itself is full of glories and horror. During Khmer Krohorm period, the temple was used as a captive for prisoners who were mostly ordinary people. 10,008 people lost their lives. The compound is tranquil and filled with calm after the tragedy.

Located near Phnum Sampov, The Killing Cave earned its name from the Khmer Rouge's brutal actions during their regime in the 1970s. This site holds a tragic history as it was used to dump thousands of bodies, including children. It is an essential part of Cambodia's history and visiting provides insight into the country's past. To reach the cave, visitors can rent a motorbike and take a one-hour journey to the top of the mountain.
A dreary little cave with an extremely sad history. It's a short walk with a small pagoda, a few statues that get your imagination working in overdrive, and the cave. There's a small viewing platform to soak up the the views of the surrounding landscape.
Jesse T — Google review
Thinking about how thousands of people died here gave me chills. There isn’t much set up as a major attraction, but since it’s on a hill, it’s a good place to walk around and take in the surroundings before watching the bats. I hired a motorbike driver at the bottom of the hill, which made getting around much easier. I paid $3 for the ride. If you don’t take a motorbike and walk up instead, it can take over an hour to look around.

We visited the Killing Cave, but honestly, it wasn’t as impactful as we expected. The place carries historical significance, but there isn’t much context or information provided on-site to help you fully understand the events. The cave itself is small, and aside from the memorial, there’s not much to see. Worth a quick stop if you’re in the area, but not a must-visit on its own.

Saturday 11th October 2025: Lakhon Killing Cave is an interesting visit. It shows the gruesome history from the Khymer Rouge's regime, on it's own population. Good on a guided tour as you get the additional information and history.

Interesting to see, if you go by foot it’s 20min walk easy if you are fit. If you don’t like to walk you can pay a little extra for a car to bring you up. The view is nice and the cave has a dark vibe.

A very insightful and harrowing visit if you’re in Battambang. The site is where a lot of innocent Cambodians lost their lives. The caves are cool to see but a bit chilling. You can either walk up to the caves and the temples or we had a 2 way jeep ride for a total price of $10 dollars ( 3 people).

Excellent site to see the place where the Khmer Rouge soldiers killed the people, to understand more about their regeme...

It was a nice trip, filled with anticipation and excitement. The journey began with high hopes and expectations, as we embarked on an adventure to explore new places and experiences. However, as the trip unfolded, a sense of yearning for something more lingered in the air. Along the way, we encountered a guide who spoke in Khmer, sharing fascinating stories about the history of the region. Despite our lack of understanding of the language, we could sense the passion and knowledge in his words. The desire to fully grasp the rich tapestry of tales he weaved was palpable, yet remained out of reach.

Coconut Lyly Restaurant & Cooking School is one of the best dining spots in Battambang, Cambodia. It's a great choice for families with children and offers European cuisine as well. The restaurant has received positive reviews for its delicious meals and variety of coffee and original drinks. With a focus on healthy Cambodian food, it's known for providing an excellent dining experience.
I did a cooking class with Lily and his wife Savath, it was perfect! We went to the market to learn a little bit about their culture, then back to the restaurant to make all the dishes. Everything was explained super clear, with vegetarian and vegan substitutes. They also gave some Western substitute options in case we want to make the recipes at home. The atmosphere was super nice, I really enjoyed my time there, and everything turned out so delicious!! Highly recommend!

I went into this Khmer restaurant and I loved it. It’s a cute, clean, family-run spot, and the staff is super friendly. The food was amazing and everything was made fresh. I had a mango salad that was exactly how I like it—balanced perfectly without that overpowering vinegar you sometimes get. The fish amok was really tasty too; the fish was fresh and the gravy was creamy and full of flavor. I also enjoyed the freshly made fried banana rolls and a cup of black coffee. Another plus is that the lime juice is made fresh (not just a syrup), and I could order it unsweetened. And they have Wifi which is another plus, as I had to do some work. I didn’t attend, but I read that they offer cooking classes as well. Highly recommend checking it out when you are in Battambang.

I attended a cooking class with my family a few days ago. Both Lyly and his wife were really friendly, open and had a lot of knowledge which they shared with us. We had a great time going to the local market, cooking and chatting with the family. And the food was delicious! Also the team was open for our special vegan and vegetarian wishes, which made our experience perfect. Thank you!

Gorgeous food! A lovely family run business. Gutted we could only eat here for one night as we had great food. It was my first time trying tofu Lok Lak it was really tasty (a hint of bbq flavour). My friends really enjoyed their chicken Amok curry too. I’d defo recommend here if you’re in the area. They do a cooking class here for €19 p/p which we wish we had time to do as it looked so wholesome.
Sam's R — Google review
We have had an amazing experience. We went to the cooking class and after deciding which meals we wanted to cook, Lyly took us to the market and explained to us different things while offering us a snack for breakfast from the market. Then, Savath led us throughout the amazing cooking class while sharing with us information about traditions and culture in Cambodia. Then we ate what we had cooked: 3 meals and the dessert, provided with rice and as much bottled water as we needed. Both of them have been very kind and it has been such a nice and fun experience. We truly recommend it to everyone!!

HUMAN GALLERY - Joseba Etxebarria Photography is a captivating collection of human portraits captured by the renowned photographer during his four-year global bicycle journey. Located in a century-old house in Battambang, the gallery showcases photographs categorized by the continents they were taken on. Joseba's compelling story and his commitment to supporting underprivileged children add depth to the experience. Visitors can hear firsthand accounts of the people behind the portraits and learn about Joseba's philanthropic efforts.
If you do anything in Battambang, let it be this. Joseba’s story is incredible - one of unwavering compassion and commitment to support something so unbelievably important. The photographs are beautiful and paint a thousand stories themselves, but the most humbling part is just spending time talking to Joseba and understanding the work that his foundation does in supporting children from unimaginable circumstances. It would be hard for you to leave here without a changed perspective, and as somebody else wrote so eloquently in a previous review - a visit to this gallery truly does add colour to statistics that are often so black and white.
Lucinda B — Google review
What an amazing gallery. Joseba has an insane story and goes through everything from the people in the photos to the backstory in detail and so personally. He doesn’t hesitate to answer any questions and makes sure you get the most out of your experience. The photography is inspiring, I couldn’t recommend this enough. Please support this gallery you won’t regret it🙏🏼
Josh S — Google review
I visited The Human Gallery in Battambang yesterday and was deeply moved by the experience. Jose’s personal story is one of incredible strength, compassion, and resilience. As I walked through the gallery, I was in awe not only of his photography – which captures the beauty, struggle, and humanity of life in Cambodia and across the world – but also of the heart behind each image. Jose doesn’t just share his photos; he opens his life, his journey, and his mission to everyone who walks through the door. It opened my eyes to the kind of meaningful impact one person can have, and it’s inspired me to think more deeply about the work I want to do in the future to help others. It’s heartbreaking to hear that due to funding issues and a drop in tourism, the gallery – and the children’s foundation Jose has also set up – are at risk of closing. This space is a rare gem, both emotionally and artistically, and we desperately need more people like Jose in the world. Thank you, Jose, for your honesty, your vulnerability, and for creating such a powerful space for reflection and connection. I will forever remember my time at The Human Gallery.
Ruby R — Google review
My partner and I visited Joseba’s Human Gallery in July 2023. We highly recommend coming here if you have an hour or two in Battambang. Joseba, the photographer, personally met us and shared his story about traveling around the world (including Africa, India, and Southeast Asia) to meet and photograph people from 2010-2022, of which seven of these years were on bicycle and many years were working with UNICEF. His story is inspirational and we loved his photos - particularly his portrait photos of people around the developing world. We decided to purchase two larger photos for our home because they were beautiful and compelling. Joseba donates proceeds from photo sales towards education for disadvantaged children near Battambang, and you can donate directly as well. This visit was very worthwhile for us and we were glad we went!

A beautiful gallery full of incredible photos taken by the passionate joseba on his journey of biking around the world for human justice. Joseba’s heart has been captured by Cambodia and he offers a unique insight into the good and bad of local life. Well worth visiting and supporting his work for the benefit of Cambodian children affected by abuse and violence.
Rhianon V — Google review
If you're in the area, this place is a must. For a donation, you get a powerful, honest experience. The gallery is beautiful, the story telling from the owner will hit you in the chest, and the owner—one of the most genuine people we've met—tells you exactly where your money goes. You’ll get free cold water refills, complimentary rice wine, and a glimpse into something truly meaningful. Sadly, he told us he might have to shut down within the month. Go visit and support if you can. This place deserves it.
Connor M — Google review
A eye-opening and heart-warming must-see in Battambang. Joseba is very personable and he will show you around the gallery. His journey is epic and salutary.
Wimarshana W — Google review
We were really glad we stopped by the gallery. You don’t always expect the photographer to be present, but Joseba greeted us warmly, and very kindly explained his story and answered any questions about the photos. We stayed for two hours in the end, so many of the photos are very powerful and moving that I felt I could just stare at some of them. Of course it’s very interesting to chat to Joseba also, he’s had an adventurous life and has a lot of stories to tell! The gallery is an excellently renovated colonial building which is lovely in itself. Finally the prints are great quality and we ended up getting 10 of them to post to friends and just for ourselves. Probably the best thing we did in Battambang!

Nestled just outside the bustling center of Battambang, Lotus Blanc Homestay offers a serene retreat for travelers seeking comfort and warmth. During my stay in November 2023, I was welcomed by the incredibly friendly owner, Mr. Sarin, and his family who went above and beyond to ensure I felt at home. With an array of tuk-tuk tours available at affordable rates—just $1.25—I found it easy to explore the area without needing to be right in town.
Very nice place to stay in Battambang! Most friendly people running the place, we almost felt like home. Also some good tours to make your visit worthwhile, even when you only have limited time available. Very clean and big rooms for a reasonable price 👌
Michiel N — Google review
We recently stayed at Lotus Blanc Homestay and overall, it was a decent experience. Pros: - The room was equipped with a closet, body soap, and two toothbrushes with a mug, along with a tea kettle and two mugs, which was convenient. - Breakfast was satisfactory, and the price was reasonable. My fruit shake was delicious.I didn’t like the Amok chicken but this just might not suit my taste. - The staff was very nice and helpful, making us feel welcome. - The environment was mostly quiet, which was great for sleeping. - The air conditioning worked really well, keeping the room comfortable. - nice Ambiente outside Cons: - The room was quite dark, even with the curtains open, lacking natural light. It felt a bit gloomy. Additionally, when the curtains were open, outsiders could see in, which was bothersome. - There was a daily cleaning service, but it needed to be requested separately (we assume 🤷🏻‍♀️). Basic supplies like toilet paper, coffee, and water were not replenished, and the trash wasn't emptied. - The location is okay, with some dining options nearby, but it felt a bit isolated. The streets were dirty and somewhat strange. We encountered barking dogs on our way back at night, which was a bit unsettling. - The shower caused the bathroom to flood completely. The lack of a window or ventilation in the bathroom led to unpleasant smells. Keeping the toilet door closed helped, but with it open, the odor was quite strong. There were also signs of mold. - The hotel arranged a tuk-tuk driver for us, but we ended up paying $2 instead of the usual $1 offered by others. It's best to clarify prices beforehand to avoid surprises. Overall, for the price, the stay was acceptable, but there are areas for improvement. PS: Pictures and videos of the room are after our stay (already used).

I enjoyed my stay here. I kept some odd hours but the owners were great and not bothered by my comings and goings. I did eat breakfast there. It was fine. Not bad, but nothing exceptional. I felt safe in my room. It was clean. The neighborhood was quiet. The shower had hot water. There were many shaded outdoor areas to hang out at in the property. It was a great value for the price. If you are a barang and want to go party, this is not close to the party areas, but if you want a quiet place to sleep, this is a great option. Bonus: they have connections with many transportation operators and can get you a bus to other towns at great prices. I have lived in Cambodia for more than a year and know the prices for many routes, and the prices they have are right on par. They are not upcharging you. These are going to be the lowest prices you are going to find.
Brian P — Google review
Decent rooms and the loveliest people who will help you with anything you need. They serve a delicious breakfast that includes coffee and a fruit bowl on top. They also offer bus tickets, laundry service, and tours — I highly recommend taking one with them! We had the best day ever visiting the Bat and Killing Caves, riding the bamboo train, exploring Phnom Banan Temple, and (for the first time for me) seeing fruit bats. Our driver/guide was very knowledgeable and spoke good English. We paid $22.50 USD for two people - not including the fees to go to the temples, caves and ride the train. Overall, it’s a nice and quiet place with beautiful outdoor areas to relax.

lovely and very friendly family! only stayed 1 night there, but even though the room was simple, everything was clean and comfortable. can definitely recommend!
Elvira — Google review
I want to start by saying that the owner and his team are truly lovely—friendly, helpful, and deserving of support. They clearly care about the place and their guests. That said, my stay was a bit challenging. I woke up to what felt like Old McDonald's farm—roosters kicking off at 4 a.m. and the neighborhood dogs joining the morning chorus. The room we stayed in was genuinely nice, clean, and comfortable, but the noise really got to me. I tried using earbuds, but it just wasn’t enough. To be fair, the owner kindly offered to move us to another room, though he did mention we might still hear the rooster, which is out of his control. The on-site food and drinks were convenient, but I found the prices a bit high. A swimming pool on the property would have made a big difference, especially on hot days. Instead, we had to walk 10 minutes and pay $2 each to use a pool at a nearby hotel. Location-wise, the property is peaceful but far from town—you’ll need a tuk-tuk to get around. All in all, this place has heart and charm, and if you’re a heavy sleeper, love the sounds of the countryside, and don’t mind a little extra effort for food or swimming, it could be a good fit. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the right match for me personally. Still, I wish the owner every success—he’s doing his best, and it shows.

We stayed in the villa around the corner from the main address. It is a beautiful older French colonial house. The rooms are not the fanciest but the AC was good, the room was clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I would stay here again on my next trip.
Michael C — Google review
Rooms were basic, strong AC and clean. Kind owners, not great communication though - we tried to request certain things for our tours but none of it was relayed back to the driver. Keep in mind there are a lot of hidden costs with the day tours. Mr. Mao was very fun and friendly. Wouldn’t recommend the laundry service, they lost one of our items and forgot to search for it until 10 minutes before we had to leave. Also we found their transport services to be almost double the prices that other hostels had to offer. Good value for money, maybe we just had a bad experience :)

What stood out the most was Sam's ability to share in-depth historical insights, especially regarding Cambodia's past, including the difficult yet important history of the killing fields. Very much a budget hotel, but if that is what you want, perfect. As usual the hike up 3 or 4 levels in these places is a bit of an effort. If you've never experienced a bamboo train ride, then you must visit the Banon Bamboo Train in Battambang. For just $2.5 per person, you can enjoy a 40-minute ride on this traditional train. It's a unique opportunity to try something new and immerse yourself in the local culture. As you glide along, take in the beautiful natural surroundings including rice fields and breathe in the fresh air.
This is a nice half day adventure. At the end of the ride is a theme park which cost nothing extra to explore on a pushbike cart, seating all 7 of us before riding the train back. A nice experience.
Chris B — Google review
It’s a nice little park with a garden area. It reminds me of the Huntington Park Museum, in Southern California. It’s just not as cool as Huntington Park aside from the train ride as this place just has the garden and a few rides. Don’t expect to see any very exotic plants here either. It’s nice and peaceful on a weekday and the little train ride was fun but it can be a bit rough. Overall it was a nice place but I don’t see it as a place that you got to go see and check out. I wouldn’t come back again but it’s something if you don’t know where to go or what to do.
Timothy T — Google review
A bit of a tacky attraction. Yes the ride on the train is a bit of fun. Attractions at the end of the train ride for the family to wander around. $7.50 for foreigner. Would suggest give this a miss and go in the original and authentic bamboo train that takes you through the real countryside
David M — Google review
So fun! Got to experience some of Battambang’s natural beauty. The train ride was relaxing and scenic on the way there and back. Some parts were fast/slow, covered/uncovered. Once we arrived at the park, we walked around to look at the gardens. It was such a hot day, so we rented carts to ride through the park in, which was super fun, and provided a nice breeze. There was a shop at the park, to purchase water, drinks, and other snacks. I’m so glad I went here, it was lovely! I recommend bringing a hat, because it can get hot.
Melinda S — Google review
First of all, we weren’t expecting the train to go as fast it did. It was exciting and scary. Second, we didn’t know the train stops at a rest/garden area with shops and restaurants. I thought it just keeps going and goes around back to starting point. At the garden area you can rent bikes & family bikes (no time limit) & motor mini golf carts (per hour) at 10,000 riel to ride around the garden/farm. There’s also archery set up but we didn’t do that. The train ride is 17,000 riel for locals and $7.50 for foreigners. It’s one of the most exciting we’ve done during this trip.

It was not the traditional bamboo train I was expecting. Even if we had great fun, some of our companions had an incident because of the rain. Even if nobody was hurt, all the passagers fell down around a bend. Be very careful when it rains, it’s not as secure as you may think. We took several pictures when we arrived at destination. But they was nothing special at all. A lot of locals enjoy taking pictures of almost everything they meet, they like to wear fancy clothes, but we saw nothing authentic or unusual enough to be worth the detour. Sightseeing to take pictures without appreciating the present moment or the landscape, this is what attracts but does not retain. Last but not least, there is a shop selling beverages at destination where you can drink authentic sugar can juice. They also sell more classic industrialised beverages and some yakitori. Special mention to the old lady who sells duck eggs, I have never eaten such good hard-boiled duck eggs in my life. to have often eaten it in cambodia, it deserves that you meet it. even if 10,000 riels for 8 eggs are expensive (instead of 7,000 riels) frankly the quality was there!
