Sligo Abbey is a 13th-century friary featuring Renaissance carvings, a well-preserved cloister, and a sculptured 1400s altar. It's a religious site with historic significance. In the surrounding area, visitors can explore Carrowmore, an ancient Neolithic site with over 30 megalithic tombs dating back to approximately 3700-2900 BCE.
Great ruins of an Abbey. Nice literature for a self-guided tour. Quick stop and worth the time of you're going through Sligo. OPW site, so free if you bought the pass (highly recommend).
Ainsley F — Google review
A beautiful abby in the middle of the city. We came here with a few friends, and although we didn't bring any ID we were allowed in with discounted fare. That was very friendly and nice of the people who worked there that day. The structure was very beautiful, but it wasn't as big as we thought it too be. Also, we weren't or couldn't go up the tower. Next to that, it was very cool to see the old structure of the building though, walking through those corridors. Would I come back a next time? No, most likely not. But would I recommend you to go and take a look yourself? For the 3 euros entrance fee, absolutely, and I believe it is something very cool to see and view, and enlarge your history knowledge through this! It wasn't very busy, but then again, it was a regular weekday, and there were like 2 other couples walking around.
Lukas X — Google review
Very well kept Abbey. Staff were so friendly and very entertaining for the kids. Heritage week was great and a must visit in Sligo.
Sonette W — Google review
This is a wonderful historical landmark very well preserved. The self guided tour is very inexpensive and quite informative, with a map and text that explains the site. There is inexpensive parking conveniently located right across the street. Definitely recommend to anyone staying in or passing through Sligo.
Jason V — Google review
A great old ruin to see, great info from the staff. If you plan to see a bunch of old castles and sites buy an OPW card it is cheap and then you get free entry and no line ups to many sites. I am touching the carved symbol of twisted rope, which is supposed to be good luck if you touch it and if you find it. From the outside of the Abbey, it doesn’t look like there’s much to see, but there’s lots of details inside especially all the carved columns many are different and have their own special meanings.
Don L — Google review
Lovely to walk through, very interesting, and the map and page of information the folks working hand out was very helpful. We purchased tickets inside day-of with no issue.
Taylor M — Google review
Nice, historic place. Just keep in mind that it is a ruin without roof or proper walls, meaning you might get wet and cold ;-) Anyway, the friendly staff will lend you an umbrella if need be.
Der E — Google review
For only €5, I mean-it’s worth a quick perusal. Was easy to walk through. The love knot was a cute part of the tour. If you’re in Sligo , it’s worth a stop.

Museum
Located in Sligo, the Sligo County Museum is a captivating destination that offers free entry to visitors. The museum boasts an array of exhibits and displays that delve into the rich history of the area. Visitors can explore stone-age artifacts, including ancient tools and crafts discovered in the region, as well as a remarkable 100-year-old firkin of bog butter. The Yeats Room showcases manuscripts and letters from the renowned W.B. Yeats, adding a literary dimension to the museum's offerings.
Sadly I was only visiting Sligo for the day but was interested to find out about Sligo because my grandparents were born there . I arrived at the museum only ten minutes before it closed at lunchtime! Oh but the lovely kind lady actually gave me two beautiful books as a gift I was so overcome it was incredibly kind of her . I read one book last night absolutely fascinating!! The second book is for my next evening read ! I’m sorry I missed your museum but I promise to return one day !! Thank you so so much !!
Fran G — Google review
Fascinating little free museum jam packed with information and exhibits relating to County Sligo. The displays are a bit old fashioned, but it's worth taking time at each one. There's wonderful exhibits about the great Irish figures of William Butler Yeats, Countess Markievicz and her sister Eva Gore Booth. It's a very small museum and probably not going to interest young children, but it promotes all that's good and great about Sligo. The museum closes for lunch, so plan your visit accordingly.
John B — Google review
Free and very interesting. A bit of everything in a few rooms
M D — Google review
Small museum, only 3 rooms. We saw no photo signs but some people took photos. Quick and free and right next to the library. Parking: Street Cost: Free Bathrooms: No/unsure Walkways: Indoors, narrow. Time spent: 20 minutes Kid friendly: Sorta, most stuff in cases but some things they could touch and damage so be mindful. Not ideal for buggys/strollers
Randi C — Google review
Very interesting, small museum, can be visited free of charge. Google Maps opening hours are false, the actual one is attached.
Kollár E — Google review
A very nice museum with the staff’s very knowledgeable and friendly explanation of the collection of history and people (especially about WB Yeats and family). Free entry.
C以斯帖 — Google review
A small museum with an eclectic collection and friendly staff. The museum is quite small, only comprising a few rooms. The collection is all things related to Sligo. Due to the space constraints many of the exhibits are right beside each other and not grouped by period. However, the staff make this museum, and if you ask the curators questions they will give in-depth and fascinating stories about the artefacts and the area. It is well worth a visit.

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in Sligo, Ireland is the largest megalithic cemetery in the country and one of the most significant in Europe. It features stone circles, passage tombs, and dolmens, making it a rich historical site. The ongoing archaeological excavations add to its fascination as new monuments are discovered and clues about its deeper meaning are pieced together.
Very interesting archeological site, located on an open field. Structures date back to a period 6000-8000 B.C. and are located just outside Sligo, on a rural area. The visitor center is staffed with very helpful people and provides for toilets and an outdoor cafe.
Roberto B — Google review
I confirm Sam's information, the big cairn and the dolmens on the field are visitable, only the Visitor Center is closed. Theoretically it should be opened soon. I guess that the toilet was not in use when we visited the site, but a young guy offered fresheners, cafe, beverages and some snacks.
Kollár E — Google review
Very interesting place. Don’t miss the circles etched in stone. It’s a walking tour on your own. It’ll be great when the centre is open and someone to explain it all.
MARY S — Google review
Cathedrals and Castles are wonderful, but walking around a Megalithic cemetery gave me such a feeling of wonder. To see how these rocks were arranged over 6000 years ago and to read about the kilos of cremated remains conn me to my roots in Ire.
Patty R — Google review
There wasn't much to it. I normally like historical sites, but there wasn't really anything to see. The new center is supposed open soon. I could see displays inside, but I couldn't enter. It might be fantastic once the OPW officially opens the building.
Dan M — Google review
This place is amazing. It's about one thousand to fifteen hundred years older than the pyramids. It appears, it was some kind of a burial ground. It's well worth seeing truly is amazing

In addition to great coffee, they also offer snacks for purchase. This place offers delicious homemade ice cream at great value in true Italian style.
The Greek Yogurt and Honey is the BEST! Tried the Raspberry Cheesecake and the Strawberry Sorbet which were also amazing😍

Movie theater
Omniplex Cinema Sligo is a modern multiplex that offers an exciting array of the latest blockbuster films alongside live theatre broadcasts, making it a fantastic destination for movie enthusiasts. Visitors have shared their positive experiences, highlighting the friendly staff and comfortable seating that enhances their viewing pleasure. Many patrons appreciate the convenience of nearby parking and enjoy indulging in snacks like popcorn and sweets before settling in for a show.
The Ticket to the Movie World Christian stood in front of the ticket booth of an old cinema, clutching a few coins in his hand. He had dreamed of seeing the movie everyone was talking about—“Lost Worlds.” But unfortunately, all the tickets were sold out. “Well, nothing I can do,” he sighed, ready to leave when he suddenly heard a voice. “Wait, boy!” whispered the cashier, leaning forward slightly. He was an elderly man with gray hair and kind, but slightly mischievous, eyes. “I have a special ticket. Just for you.” The man handed Christian an old paper ticket with a golden pattern. Written on it were the words: “Once in a Lifetime. Entry to Magic.” “What does that mean?” Christian asked, puzzled. “This ticket doesn’t just take you to the cinema,” the man said softly. “It takes you into the movie itself. But be careful. Only you can decide when to come back.” Excited yet a little nervous, Christian agreed. He entered the theater where “Lost Worlds” was showing and found his seat. As soon as the movie began, something unusual happened: the screen glowed brightly, and Christian felt himself being pulled inside. In an instant, he was no longer sitting in the theater. He was standing in the middle of a dense tropical jungle, full of strange sounds and vibrant colors. A small dinosaur-like creature scurried past him, and in the distance, he saw a giant pyramid—just like in the movie trailer. “I’m… in the movie?” he whispered, looking around. From the bushes, a girl, slightly older than him and dressed like an archaeologist, ran out. She stopped abruptly when she saw Christian. “Who are you? You’re not part of our expedition!” she exclaimed. “I’m… a viewer,” Christian stammered, confused. “A viewer? There’s no time for jokes! If you’re here, you’d better help us find the Time Key, or the world will collapse!” Christian realized that in this world, his role was not just to watch but to act. Together with the girl and her team, he embarked on a dangerous journey. They crossed rivers filled with monsters, avoided traps in ancient ruins, and solved puzzles that seemed impossible. At every step, Christian felt that his choices mattered. Once, he saw a massive boulder rolling toward the girl and pushed her aside just in time. Another time, he discovered a hidden inscription that helped them open a secret door. When they finally found the Time Key, the main antagonist appeared—a dark sorcerer who wanted to use the Key’s power to rule the world. “What can you do against me, boy?” the sorcerer laughed. Christian knew what he had to do. He dashed toward the Key and activated it, despite his fear. A brilliant light exploded, and the sorcerer vanished. In the next moment, Christian was back in the cinema. The credits were rolling on the screen. “What just happened?” he whispered, looking at the ordinary ticket in his hand. When the lights came on in the theater, he went to find the cashier. But the man was gone. In his place was only a note: “You did it. The world is yours now. The story continues.” Christian smiled, knowing he would remember this day forever.
Mykola D — Google review
I love cinema so got the omnipass, totally a scam, price of the membership keeps rising and today when booking a ticket I find out that I have to pay extra for my seat, even with omnipass, what is the point of it? So I can't go see a movie for "free" anymore, canceling my subscription and probably not gona step my foot there again. Also the movie selection is horrible, rarely anything indie or euro.
Kristina T — Google review
Staff were great but the first 20 minutes of the movie were missed due to the theater being fully lit which made the movie practically invisible. Took a few asks for them to turn down the lights.
Things A — Google review
Very nice movie theatre. They often play Indian movies .Now this is one of the important Indian movie releasing center.
HAREESH P — Google review
My partner and I have been a loyal Omnipass member for 2 years but unfortunately due to greed we now must cancel our memberships. While already paying €17.99 per month each, it is now asking us to pay up to an additional €6 per seat. This renders the omnipass useless. Such an insult to long time customers. Tiered pricing on seats is fine. But my omnipass should cover all seat types. I pay monthly so that I don't have to pay for my ticket. Simple.
Ray L — Google review
We went to watch bad boys last night, tickets already purchased online but decided we wanted popcorn sweets and drinks. So went up to the counter and was asked if we were paying card or cash, after some slight confusion we were directed back to the kiosk to put our orders in there, we were already cutting it tight for the movie and found it quite frustrating having to do this…..but a guy who we assume was a manager followed us straight up and was very helpful and took our orders from us verbally and went off to prepare them while we got to grips with this new system, it was great customer service from this person, totally redeemed and was impressed with his reading of the situation and rectifying it promptly and very professionally. Thanks to whoever you are, very comfortable cinema, recliner seats are a real treat, nice temperature in cinema, fully recommend.

Sligo Regional Sports Centre, located in Sligo town, offers a nice and quiet pool that is well-maintained and clean. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff who take pride in providing a welcoming environment. Some suggest adding private showers and changing rooms for an even better experience. The facility is known for its cleanliness, organization, and friendly staff who are great with kids starting swimming lessons. Overall, it's a highly recommended place to enjoy swimming without having to wait for facilities.
I love to be here. I can do all I need without waiting))) and the greatest swimming pool ever )))
Анастасія А — Google review
Everything seems to be fine, at first glance, but there are questions about the cleaning of the locker rooms, I would like cleanliness, considering that people walk in shoes, and others barefoot carry dirt into the pools. Also separate showers, as previous commentators said. The water in the large pool was very cold last week, it was impossible to be in, in the children's pool it was yellow with some kind of acid, after which the whole body itched. I would like more attention to moments of cleanliness and comfort for visitors.

Facilities are likely in need of upgrades. But to be honest? This is a great place for the community. The prices are also very affordable. I would really recommend anyone to this place

Clean and long sandy beach. Very busy when we visited. There are 2 portable toilets at the bottom of the carpark near the beach. There is a car park on the left side of the road when heading to the beach about 15minutes walk to the beach (with vehicle height restriction barrier)and another one near the beach side which are both free. There are coffee shops, bar and quite few surfing rental business.

Dooney Rock Forest offers stunning views of the lake and a magical atmosphere, especially at sundown. The area is known for its scenic native woodland nature trail, Lough Gill shore with a lovely beach, and a grand view of Beezies Island. Visitors can enjoy picnics, treks through the forest, and the beauty of a small waterfall. The well-indicated path makes it easy to explore the area on foot while enjoying the great views along the way.
We really enjoy to walking this area when we went to visit the area during the weekend. The path is very well indicated by different signs and it is easy to walk. The views from here are great and in a sunny clear day, you are able to see the river.

It's a really beautiful place, especially along the shore of the lake. It is lovely to go for a walk and spend some time in nature. Unfortunately, not all parts of the walks and trails are wheelchair or buggy friendly. There is a good amount of free parking including wheelchair parking.
Aidan M — Google review
Lovely forest walk just outside Sligo town. Plenty of free parking available right at the entrance, which is very convenient. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow – a loop that takes about 30 to 40 minutes to complete at a relaxed pace. It's a peaceful and scenic walk through mixed woodland with beautiful views of Lough Gill and the surrounding hills. There's a slight uphill section that leads to a viewpoint on top of Dooney Rock, which is worth the short climb for great photo opportunities. Ideal for a quick nature break or a quiet walk. It’s suitable for families and casual walkers. Benches along the way make it a nice spot to pause and enjoy the view. There's also a picnic area near the car park. Overall, a short but very rewarding forest walk. Highly recommended if you're in the Sligo area and want to spend a bit of time in nature.

We host Bards In The Woods here, a favourite location due to the very scenic native woodland nature trail, the Lough Gill shore with a lovely beach. Fun to picnic on Dooney Rock the serves a grand view of Beezies Island and other scenes of Lough Gill. Good viewpoint seating.

Little walk beside the lake. The path is usually wet and goes between the trees and next to the shore most of the time. Dogs are allowed and there's a parking lot in the beginning of the path.
Sam C — Google review
Lovely walk. Fab views. Kids loved it. Very clean and nice day had by all.
