Specialty Museums
The Ars Electronica Center, also known as the Museum of the Future, is a landmark building in Linz, Austria. Established in 1996 and relocated to its current futuristic location on the Danube in 2009, it offers technology-based exhibitions that showcase the city's role as a hub for technology, media, industry, and art. Visitors can explore one-of-a-kind exhibits related to science and technology, including displays on climate change, space exploration, biotechnology, and robotics.
Amazing, inspiring, huge. It’s hard to describe the diversity and breadth of what you can see at the festival.
Szymek D — Google review
This museum might be engaging for children under 10, but for others, it’s one of the most boring and disappointing museums I’ve visited in a long time. I entered with high expectations but was let down within seconds of seeing the exhibition. There’s little of interesting things, most of the time, I wasn’t even sure why I was there. The museum consists mainly of a few screens and wall texts, with at least half of the artifacts not functioning. They could easily create a website, copy-paste the texts, and post the few videos there instead. Overall, the museum feels undefined and empty. Here, you’ll only find what feels like random Wikipedia articles.
Jure F — Google review
Your enjoyment of this museum will likely depend on your interests. This museum goes pretty technical and fairly in-depth about all the available topics so if you aren’t particularly interested in them you might find the museum boring. The first exhibition didn’t suite my interests so I wasn’t interested but the AI part I found very interesting because AI is interesting to me.
Goodguy L — Google review
Located near the banks of a river with a beautiful view. Have a bus stop right in front of it. If while waiting for the bus for a long time with luggage one wants to visit this, no issue. There is locker facility to hold the luggage with lock and key arrangement. Special price on shows for senior citizens. Displays are not that great and informative. Not muchattractive for visitors. Children have some exclusive area for learning and fun.
Karthikeyan K — Google review
Some interesting exhibits especially the quite nerdy section on AI which goes into surprising detail and has some good demos showing how neural nets work. Just beware the 'deep space' show is nothing to do with the universe and more just a kalaidoscope projected onto the floor.
James F — Google review
Absolutely disappointing. There is nothing specific, mostly screens and texts. Better to go to the cinema for the good picture on the screen. I think it was the worst museum I have ever visited. Maybe it is fine for the children though.
Lazzabuda L — Google review
The Ars Electronica Center is a captivating fusion of art and technology. With its interactive exhibits and immersive displays, it offers a thrilling exploration of the digital frontier. A visit to this museum is an inspiring journey into the boundless possibilities of the modern age.

Mountain peak
Pöstlingberg, a 539-meter high hill above Linz, offers a unique experience for visitors. Accessible by historic trams in the summer and modern trams year-round, the journey to the top takes about 20 minutes. Atop Pöstlingberg, there's a historic church and an observation deck providing panoramic views of Linz. The area is also known for its picturesque uphill tram ride and opportunities to spot deer in nature.
A fun, steep tram ride with fantastic views at the top over the city. Don't follow the Google Map pin for Postlingbergbahn - it looks like it only goes from the stop over the river, but it actually goes from the main square, Hauptplatz. The tram is scheduled every half an hour, which is just long enough at the top to take some pictures, follow the circular path and take a look at the church. Very handy attraction for a reasonable price
Seiriol D — Google review
A unique tram station and also a heritage tram ride. It goes up to an elevation of 560m hill of Postlinberg hill with a steep track and very narrow track. From here you can enjoy the view of Linz city.
Shaikh S — Google review
We had a night halt in Linz during our river cruise. The Postlingberg is a 539 (1760 ft) high hill on the left bank of the Danube in city of Linz. It is a very popular tourist attraction, with a viewing platform over the city, and is the site of the Postlingberg pilgrimage church, and the Linz Grottenbahn. One can reach here from city square by line 50 of the Linz tramways, running over the Postlingbergbahn mountain tramway. It costs 10 euro for return trip, and it takes 20 minutes each way. It runs every 30 minutes. The ride both ways was very pleasant and scenic. The view from top is great of entire town, countryside and Danube. There was a restaurant, cafes, a church and a theater. There was also a zoo on the midway. A nice place for families and photo opportunities !!
Balkrishna S — Google review
We visited Pöstlingberg with our child and had a great time. The highlights were interacting with the deer, riding the Grottenbahn toy train, and exploring the miniature houses—all of which our child loved. The place is scenic, peaceful, and very family-friendly. We spent about 3 hours there, which was perfect for a relaxed visit. Highly recommended for families looking for a fun and easy outing in Linz!
Tejus U — Google review
Great views from up here and a very nice cafe with a lot of yummy cake, including the famous Linzer torte.
Chris L — Google review
Pöstlingberg is a great way to spend a day in nature, in Linz, with a pretty good chance to see deer grazing. There are also some great panoramic views of the city, weather permitting. No matter the weather, there are cool restaurants and places to walk around and take in the sights and fresh air.
Bob W — Google review
Cool tram ride, great view from the hill and a great walk on the hill with the kids. They loved the playground area and the space up there. A thing to do in Linz on a Sunday.
Nikolina K — Google review
Perfect place for weekend wandering(you can get here also with a tram, which is the steepest, or one of most steep railways in Europe). Observation deck with a view on Linz, if weather is nice and air is clear, at the horizon you can see Alps.

Linz Botanical Garden, located on the eastern slopes of the Freinberg just a short walk from the city center, is a stunning attraction boasting over 10,000 plant species spread across beautiful flowerbeds and five greenhouses. The garden features rare wild plants, cacti, orchids, and a superb Rosarium. It also hosts open-air summer concerts and readings on its stage amidst nature.
Amazing place to visit. I did not expected such a nice and big place. Will be back for sure.

Lovely place for a walk around on a nice day. Saw it all in an 1 hour, then had a lovely coffee and cake in the cafe. Entry cost and cafe were quite good value. Quite a steep walk up to the gardens though
David U — Google review
Nice enough for a quick stroll, but nothing particularly special. Decent variety of plants, but overall pretty average
Mai A — Google review
A lovely botanical garden to visit. They do have a cafe, although it was fully booked on a Wednesday even though it was nearly empty. We didn't see anyone go in while we had our takeaway coffee either, maybe they all came later
Tom ( — Google review
Perfect place for relaxation and observing flora close to the stadium.
Zoltán B — Google review
A beautiful, small, but very cozy Botanical Garden. There are many places on the territory where you can sit and listen to birdsong. The greenhouse has magnificent orchids and a collection of cacti! There is a cafe on site.
Maria G — Google review
Well maintained botanical garden. The entry fee is less than 4 euro. The place is easily reachable by public transport. I enjoyed strolling around. There is nice restaurant which offers great food and coffee. I spent an entite day here, clicked many pictures of beautiful flowers. It’s a great spot for photography enthusiasts. Would definitely recommend.
Akshaya G — Google review
I'm not the biggest fan of flowers but this was an experience that has changed my mind about botanical gardens and I will try to visit as many as I can from on. Entry price is very low at about three euro and you can easily spend about three hours exploring all the gardens.

Grottenbahn is a unique and nostalgic underground train ride in Linz, Austria that takes you through the Land of Dwarves, featuring evil dwarves, taxidermied animals, and dragons. The electric dragon-shaped train offers a whimsical journey through scenes from fairytales, making it an ideal activity for families with children. After the ride, visitors can explore miniature exhibitions of famous fairytales in a model town.
It was a very nice, entertaining activity to do with children of all ages. My small one was absolutely fascinated. I think we need to visit again and again until he can figure everything out.
Karina A — Google review
Awful management. For my daughter's birthday, we spent the €171 for the event. However, the management ruined the experience of our guest's mothers by sending them away from the venue into extremely bad weather. The unempathetic manager also did this in an extremely rude manner that left everyone, including other waiting guests, in shock. The attraction itself is quaint and fun, brilliant for birthdays. The party host was fantastic, and the kids loved meeting Sebastian the dragon.
Ed — Google review
Great place to pass by with children. Train who turn around few times with different light and perspective is a great idea ! Then fairytales in miniature city - even that surprised adult like me and I enjoy the visit like a kid. Best attraction in this area ! If you with family this is must visit place
Kamil N — Google review
An interesting adventure for families with children of any age. And the lovers were riding behind us in the train - it was obviously a date ;) The train carries three circles, you can have time to look at all the figures. And then take a walk around the “town” with scenes from the most famous fairy tales.
Maria G — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Grottenbahn. The train ride was fun, and I was very appreciative that it went around 3 times so you could see everything. However, for me, it still wasn't enough times to see all the details I would have liked to see. I did love the second part of the experience where they have the miniature town square and different fairy tales. I would highly recommend this, especially for families with children.
Shawna F — Google review
It’s ok to visit with small kids max 6/7 years old. Small train makes 3 or 4 rounds in small magical cave filled with elf’s. On the floor below you’ll find a small fairy tale city with themed corners. Overall it’s worth the trip up the hill for a magnificent view of Linz

All the animals are visible and not hiding. Some hilly areas but a relatively easy walk. Took us about 90 minutes to walk around the loop. Great place to bring kids even though we did not attend with children. Snack area and clean restrooms. Only 11 euros per person.

Cute idea for a day out, but I feel like some animals (especially reptlies) could use a bit more care :c There was a lot of maintance going on when we visisted, so a lot of enclosure were empty. Can't say if this is normal! Tip: Ask for animal food at the entrace (2€) to hand feed the donkeys, the deers and the gots ✨️

Lovely, small zoo, very appropriate for children. The playground is nice, the zoo buffet offers würstl, leberkäse, krapfen and drinks. I never spend more than 2h inside. The parking lot barely cuts it on Sundays.

We came for a coffee, in the end we stayed for a meal.. Everything was good, the waiters were fast and cultured with a lot of suggestions.. Everything was superb! The atmosphere is wonderful, inside and outside with a view of the cathedral!

We had a fantastic dining experience! This restaurant is an excellent choice for dinner and drinks. The staff were incredibly polite and professional, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. All the dishes were not only delicious but also generously portioned. I highly recommend this spot for a delightful evening out.
Clio P — Google review
Very elegantly and luxuriously furnished restaurant, especially the view of the Mariendom from the windows is majestic. The food was visually attractive served, good taste. Wagyu flank for 41 Euro was not a good choice. The steak came already covered with a sauce and was not medium rare, as I wanted it, rather medium and because it was served sliced, it cooled down very quickly. It was also not optimal that the steak was mixed with a mixture of roasted bacon, onion rings and pimentos, for a total of 12 Euro. Instead of the ordered fries with chilli mayo, I got fried potato chips with ketchup. After the complaint, I got chili mayo. As for the standard filet steak, that was the better choice. And at a better price. Moreover, the olives in the appetizer were not optimal - the guest has nowhere to put the pits and to eat the olives must either use a fork for the main course or eat with bare hands. On the positive note, I would highlight the beers on offer, the Kristall Schlägl on tap and Pauls Bier in the bottle were very good. As well as the wine. The service was fast and attentive, but a bit measured, and as for the friendly approach, the waiter did the minimum necessary, but did not give the impression that he enjoys serving guests in the restaurant. Overall, it was an average gastronomic experience at high prices, but in a very charming environment. I recommend a visit.
Lubomir K — Google review
This was a pretty weird experience! Not in a good way as well… we came in because we read such wonderful reviews but the reality was that the service was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced, the surprise menu started interesting but then proved that they are trying to just make money, the steak served as part of the 60€ meal was less than 100 grams, the worst part was that we had to wait during the three course menu for an astonishing 2.5 hours and after about 2 hours when I first asked (politely and in German) if we’re ever gonna get the dessert, the response from the staff was rude and loud… can’t stress it enough Don’t waste your money and time here if your visiting Linz
Mash — Google review
The burger was fantastic as were all the side dishes. The fresh bread with the dips is very morish! Friendly staff. Will come back here if I return to Linz!
James F — Google review
First. The presentation of the food, the restaurant interior and the service was excellent. The location next to the cathedral is top. Clean restrooms and also a nice area to sit outside. It was my first visit here and the expectations were very high, especially when ordering a €70 steak (without sides). My friends had a "standard" filet steak but both types were not prepared as ordered. The time on the grill was slightly too long which resulted in imperfect results. My steak had additionally a slightly different smell and aftertaste like I am used to. I know a good steak from around the world because of my business travels, but this one was slightly different for my taste. At the time it was ok for us because we were hungry and we finished our meal anyways. We told the waiter what we didn't like so that it doesn't happen again. Just for this first experience I would not try it again. My friends were pretty much happy with their steaks though.
Frederik L — Google review
One of the best diners we ever had! I ordered the Wagyu burger which was a bit spicy but amazing and so soft and flavourful! We also got the Ribeye steak which was a bit raw but overall very good and juicy, especially with these potatoes with onions. Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz is a contemporary art museum located on the banks of the Danube River. The museum's notable waterside building, illuminated at night, houses an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art. Visitors can explore works from the 19th century, including pieces by renowned artists such as Klimt, Schiele, and Kokoschka, as well as contemporary art positions like VALIE EXPORT.
Enjoyable & delightful, although one room was being refurbished, the size and position was perfect as I was on a cruise and time is limited on shore :) . If you are an art lover I recommend it! I was lucky to see some of Andy Warhol ( which I have last seen in New York 2013 ! nice to see Austrian artists like Johann Jaska, of course Richard Hamilton's I am dreaming of a black Xmas was a nice surprise . Thank you for the experience xxx

This spacious and modern museum by the river houses paintings by Egon Schiele, Keith Haring, and artists from Upper Austria among others. The permanent collection on the top floor is small and can be viewed in one hour. There were just a few visitors on a Friday afternoon so plenty of space for me to enjoy the artworks.

We enjoyed this modern art gallery, a nice selection of modern pieces. And a few older pieces.

The Museum was good, the collections small and would not need more than an hour.

Families with children are not welcome here. Worst experience. Total Disrespect towards visitors with children. Grown women employee starts the conversation with aggression, just in the begininng of excurssion. Public yuck to employees, they should start by learning basic etiquette to start work in a place like this. My family have been to many museums around the world, this is the first time we have had such a terrible experience.

Great collections of arts, Andy Warhol, Keith haring, Klimt, Egon And many more! Most important they have a section of arts reminds us of nature, plastic waste, how human is harming the earth.

This museum didn't impress me much. It's kind of modern art. But still not much to explore. I am an art lover and little bit artist. I didn't find it worth of money they charged. Included in Linz Pass. One gallery was not open to all. It requires pre booking. Couple of hours are enough to explore depending upon how much you love modern art.
Sham — Google review
Lazy curation. Such an underwhelming collection, completely as a step the outside of the building. Way too many male artist women are deeply under represented. I counted 40 works, before seeing one female artist. This is deeply lazy in 2025. We expect better from you Lentos

Breakfast restaurant
Café Traxlmayr, located in central Linz, is a historic Austrian café with an Art Nouveau facade that exudes turn-of-the-century charm. Established in 1847, it has become an institution known for its warm atmosphere and homemade delicacies such as Kaiserschmarrn and excellent coffee. The café offers a wide selection of over 100 international daily newspapers and weekly magazines for patrons to enjoy while having breakfast or lunch.
The best traditional interior design, good outdoor seating. All traditional food and pastries you’d want. Friendly staff. High quality

Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Unwelcoming Attitude I had a very disappointing experience at this cafe. The staff were neither polite nor helpful. I requested a wooden armless chair to sit outside because it was too hot inside, and I can’t use chairs with arms. However, the waitress responded curtly, saying, “This chair is for inside, you have to sit inside,” in a very dismissive tone. After finally sitting down, we waited a long time without any staff acknowledging us. Three waiters walked by multiple times without even glancing in our direction. Eventually, one waiter did stop to take our order, but his attitude was rude and arrogant. When I expressed my frustration about the chair issue and the long wait, he simply walked away without responding — which was incredibly disrespectful. We left the restaurant immediately after that. I would not recommend this place, especially to tourists. It seemed like the staff only cared about their local regulars, as they were happily chatting and smiling with people they appeared to know, while ignoring new customers like us.

This cafe is in Linz 5 star for applestrudel desert . They do serve cold and hot applestrudel .Hot is served with bit of vanilla sauce and a bit of berries as decorations. The garden is beautiful and overlooks at some beautiful buildings APPLESTRUDEL IS the only reason I go there . You must try the hot one Other than that I find the cafe pricy

Passing by Linz, Austria on vacation,we stopped at Cafe Traxlmayr for their historic Linzer Torte. We were ignored by 3 surly waitstaff until even they could not ignore us any longer. The Torte was pretty good, yet they only provided utensils for 2 instead of the four of us.. (Even though we asked twice, in 2 different languages). They would not bring us coffee for all of us. Finally, we left without finishing. Seriously, we felt like we had entered the Twilight Zone. In all fairness, some locals seemed happily engaged but this is not welcoming for tourists. Tourists, be warned. Keep on driving. Avoid this establishment at all cost. One star is too generous.

Just loved this place. Traditional, Viennese -style café. In fact we liked it so much, we visited three times in one day: coffee, lunch and afternoon tea/coffee.

Café Traxlmyr in Linz, Austria may have a long history and charming setting, but unfortunately, the experience was far from good. We ordered a cappuccino with oat milk, and the taste was unpleasant — almost burnt and far too hot to enjoy. The hot chocolate was equally disappointing, with barely any flavor, just a weak mix of milk and sugar, and a pale color that didn’t look appetizing. The only positive note was the bread with cold cuts, which was fresh and quite good. Still, the overall impression is that the café doesn’t put much care into the quality of their drinks or the customer experience. Considering its heritage, this was a big letdown.

The initial plan was the Little Dancer, but we didn't manage to get a table. Next time, I'll know better and make a reservation. So, spontaneously to Traxlmayr and thank the nice weather, sitting on the terasse was available. Real nice breakfast options and good coffee. I really liked the hummus. Friendly service also, despite the fact that the place was almost full. I recommended it.

The Alter Dom - Ignatiuskirche, also known as the Old Cathedral, is a monumental 17th-century church with domed towers and an elaborate baroque interior. It served as the city's cathedral from 1785 to 1909 and features a single-nave design with a striking Baroque facade and several chapels. The marble high altar, adorned with a detailed painting by Italian artist Antonio Bellucci, is particularly noteworthy.
Constructed by the Jesuits in 17th century, it was designated a cathedral when Josef II appointed a bishop for Linz. The Jesuits returned in 1909. Anton Bruckner, the composer, worked here as the cathedral organist from 1856–1868 and the organ here was built according to plans by Bruckner and has been preserved to this day.

An old Jesuit church with nice Baroque artwork. Typical of many churches of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, this church is a good example of the sumptuous Baroque art. For those who do not enjoy Baroque it can be passed by, but it is a nice church.

Beautiful church. It has been kept in wonderful condition. The people there are so friendly. I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested. One thing that could be changed is the fact the door is wide open all the time so is not very private because it's in a location where many people walk past. All in all had a wonderful experience.

The Ursuline Church of St. Michael is a stunning Roman Catholic church with two towers, constructed in the 18th century and boasting an elaborate baroque interior. It stands out as one of the oldest churches in Austria still in use, dating back to the 8th century and featuring a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements. Despite its small size, this hidden gem offers a rich history waiting to be explored.

The church is located on the main street. Honestly, it’s not much different from other churches of this kind. The entrance doors are a bit creepy - they open by themselves to let you in! Before visiting, I read in a guidebook that you can go up to a viewing platform. I found an open staircase, but it only goes up to the second floor - the doors there were locked. Too bad. I’d really like to know if it’s actually possible to get to the top.

Acquired by the city in 1911, it has since been used as a museum. The exhibitions are relatively small but detailed, delicately displayed, and thoughtfully arranged. One exhibition called 'What the Fem*' is translated into English while another about Linz is only available in German.

A nice historical building with a relatively small exhibition. Detailed information, delicate display and thoughtful setups. Went there on a Feiertag out of interests in the history of Linz city. It’s worth the time. One missing star for the coldest receptionist I’ve ever met. No greetings when anyone walked in, and no responds to our “Wiedersehen”…there is no facial expressions other than a hateful staring out of a freezer, as if asking “why the hell are you here?” Wirklich lustig.

Freiraum Europa is an organization that engages in fundraising activities, with young people dedicating their time to the cause. The Graz team has been particularly active and successful in their efforts, prompting positive feedback from donors. Donations are collected through door-to-door visits, a challenging task that requires maintaining decency and respect on both sides.
(Translated by Google) Assessment of the voluntary donation for Freiraum Europa I would like to share my extremely positive experience with a voluntary doorstep donation for Freiraum Europa in the Pitten region (Lower Austria). The collector who visited me left an absolutely professional and trustworthy impression. The comprehensive information provided by the collector was particularly impressive. He took the time to present the various Freiraum Europa projects in detail. He specifically addressed the important issues that the organization is committed to and explained how the donations are specifically used to support people with disabilities. This gave me a good feeling that my donation was really going to the right place. Another aspect that gave me great security was the official documentation that the collector carried. He showed me a notice from the state of Lower Austria that legitimized the collection. This underlines the seriousness of the campaign. I also received a perforated donation slip, which made the entire process even more transparent and confirmed to me that it was a real and official collection. I have rarely experienced so much commitment, friendliness and professionalism at a door-to-door collection. The collector did a great job and managed to fully convince me of the importance of the projects. I can only recommend that everyone consider donating on such an occasion - something good is definitely being done here! Many thanks to Freiraum Europa and the dedicated team on site for this important work and the opportunity to make a small contribution!

(Translated by Google) Yesterday one of your fundraisers insulted my very elderly neighbor and spat on her doorstep (twice). The trigger for this was the (really nicely worded) statement that she generally doesn't make donations at the front door. (I heard everything because I came home at the same time.) I then asked her employee to leave (calmly, matter-of-factly) to which she commented: "If I don't want a wrap, I should hold the cardboard." Please check the suitability of this lady for this job again. My neighbor is ~80 years old, walks with a cane and was so scared after the incident that I could hardly calm her down. After she had identified herself in an exemplary manner, when I asked, I was immediately handed an information flyer with a reference to the printed IBAN. I was happy to donate and don't find anything strange about house collections, as long as the necessary decency and respect is maintained on both sides. This type of marketing is completely justified. How often do you not make an impulse purchase that wasn't planned...? It's a shame that so many essential organizations rely on collections and it's great that there are people who take on this activity. There wouldn't be any sports offerings to the same extent if there weren't volunteer trainers and helpers. But that's another topic ;) (Original) Sehr sympathische und vor allem UNaufdringliche Spendensammlerin in Gallneukirchen. (Translated by Google) The club is certainly doing a good job, but the "donation collector" (you can really call him a collector) who is traveling around Linz-Land was very pushy. Even after making it known several times that there was no interest, the answer kept coming that this was an approved fundraising campaign and that I was interested in it. It was only when I was asked whether I was therefore obliged to donate that the answer was no and he finally gave up. The fact that only a cash donation is possible is also very questionable. For the donor as well as for the collector who runs around with all the money.

No, I certainly don't just ask strangers into my home. I was further asked whether we had not been informed that they were coming? No, of course we weren't. Where? And finally, the audacity of not agreeing with the amount I wanted to donate and preferring to leave without a DONATION?! This is absolutely dubious and, in times of high inflation and increasing poverty, simply incredibly cheeky!!! I always thought a donation was voluntary and every euro would help?! Apparently not here... No matter how good the ideas may be behind this organization, I'd rather donate to another organization that also appreciates my money.
