Tapada Nacional de Mafra, located just 5 minutes outside of Mafra, was once the royal hunting grounds and has now been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This large nature reserve and park is home to diverse wildlife such as deer, wild boar, and various bird species. The park offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, archery, guided tours through the park's walled surroundings.
I visited the Tapada Nacional de Mafra and was truly impressed by its vastness and natural beauty. Covering over 800 hectares, this former royal hunting ground is now a serene forest park where deer, wild boars, foxes, and various birds roam freely. The park offers a range of activities, including walking and biking trails, guided electric vehicle tours, and bird of prey demonstrations. One of the highlights was the "On the footsteps of King D. Carlos" tour, which provided historical insights and a visit to the Tapada History Museum. The park is well-maintained, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The entrance fee is reasonable, making it an excellent destination for nature lovers and families seeking a peaceful retreat from the city. Overall, it's a perfect place to connect with nature and learn about Portugal's royal heritage
Antonio B — Google review
Beautiful place, loaded with wildlife and peaceful trails. I got to see deer, wild boar and many birds; trees are everywhere, so there's a lot of shade for a quick break to hydrate. I do recommend a guided tour, to learn about the history of the park and its heritage; + extra chances to see the animals. Calm and refreshing atmosphere, perfect for a city escape or a walk in the nature.
Nádia L — Google review
We spent an afternoon there. We were able to attend the bee keeper event as well as the falconer. It was magical. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, attentive and the kids learned so much. Everything is well kept, prices are reasonable and we really loved it. 🥰 thank you, Tapada team for really making our day!
C B — Google review
The park itself is absolutely beautiful — peaceful, well-maintained, full of wildlife and nature. It could have been a wonderful experience for our family. Unfortunately, one situation completely ruined our visit. We came with our 3-year-old daughter. At some point during the walk, she fell asleep in my arms — as small children sometimes do. After carrying her for quite a while, my wife and I were exhausted. We decided to step just two meters off the main trail, onto the grass in the sunshine, to let her sleep for a bit on a folded jacket. It was quiet, calm, and harmless. Then an employee drove up in an electric cart and started shouting at us, saying it was forbidden to leave the trail. I tried to explain the situation — that it was a sleeping child, that we weren’t disturbing anyone or damaging anything. But he was absolutely inflexible and told us to pack up and leave immediately. It was deeply disappointing and upsetting. I’ve lived in Portugal for two years and have always admired how kind and understanding people are here. This was the first time I ever encountered such coldness and lack of empathy. Rules are rules, sure — but sometimes humanity should come first. So yes, the park is wonderful. But that moment — that unnecessary harshness toward a family with a small child — completely destroyed the experience. I’m leaving this one-star review not because the park is bad, but to draw attention to how a bit of kindness could make a huge difference.
Valery A — Google review
A dusk to night time period traversing the beautiful pathways in the Tapada eventually led to the most amazing firefly show I've seen in my life! To repeat and much to discover in this gorgeous natural park!
Nuno S — Google review
I loved it. Greatly preserved forest where you can make walks and get in direct contact with deers and wild boars. There is an entrance fee. There's a souvenir shop where you can buy some lical products.
Erdem K — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous and well kept place. Ideal for a family visit and picnic. I especially enjoyed the bee atelier with Sr Luís! He is really knowledgeable, passionate and great with kids!

An ABSOLUTE must, if you are visiting Portugal. My wife and I signed up for the Vintage Wine Adventurer tasting package. This tasting was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. The tasting involved walking around the Vineyard with owner James Frost, while sampling AMAZING wines and 4 delicious plates of food that paired perfectly with the wine. The views are breathtaking, the wines were amazing, the food (especially the lamb)was delicious, and the owner James Frost was great. James was such a great and knowledgeable. This is also a great wedding spot too. If you are looking for an amazing day, i highly recommend you sign up for the Vintage Wine Adventurer package.

We just had our third trip to QSA, after getting married there in 2021. Once again it was amazing!!! We did the wine expert tasting and it was fantastic. As always Louise was so lovely and knowledgeable, and it was such a special day. The whole place is just magic! It was also a treat to bump into Alexandra who was our wedding planner and did the most incredible job. Thank you all again for having us xxx

Had a fantastic day in here! We went for the six course and everything was delicious, all the wines and the tapas which paired perfectly. Our guide, Tiago, was great and showed us the winery with true passion. The place itself is the key highlight for me, the vineyards, the flowers, cellar, and the peaceful environment. I cannot recommend this experience enough!
Victoria O — Google review
We had the most wonderful day at Quinta Santa Ana during our Portugal trip this September. I messed up the time of our tour, and the whole team at Quinta Santa Ana were incredibly accommodating and understanding. Our guide, Frankie, walked us through the vineyard and we had 6 different delicious wines paired with various meals. The family history was intriguing to learn about, and the whole family was extremely kind and fantastic hosts to us. They even have 2 adorable little dogs which joined us for our tour. We chatted with Frankie about his new olive oil brand, and enjoyed learning all about Portuguese culture. The views and beauty of the winery are breathtaking and we felt so peaceful during our visit. We all hope to come back one day, or join the vineyard for their famous October festival! I could not recommend this tour any more - it is a must do if you’re thinking about a day trip outside of Lisbon!

Went on a wine tour with the family and had a great time. Excellent service by Tiago who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The wines were very good and to be able to walk around the vineyard was a bonus. Excellent afternoon.
Steve J — Google review
Had such a wonderful tour with Frankly around the property enjoying the wines of the vineyard paired with tapas. We learned so much and also loved being in the breathtaking surroundings. The wines were so delicious, and we left the shop with many of them:)
N L — Google review
This winery is truly stunning. The architecture and grounds exude an extraordinary beauty that immediately captivates. From the moment of arrival, it’s clear how attentive and warm the staff are—friendly, professional, and always helpful. The wine experience itself is first-rate: the wines reveal remarkable versatility, depth, and elegance. The wine tasting was particularly impressive, shaped by expertise, patience, and wonderful guidance from the winemaker team. Each sip tells a story of terroir, tradition, and creativity—a journey that delights both newcomers and connoisseurs. The atmosphere during the tasting was inspiring and relaxed at the same time; you can feel the passion behind every wine. A worry-free package that makes you want to return.
Michèle K — Google review
Great vinery and beautiful location. We had the pleasure to take part in a wine tasting with Tiago our wonderful and knowledgeable guide. All the offered wines were exceptional, and the paired food really delicious and altered according to our dietary restrictions. We are looking forward to getting back there and for our wine to arrive back home.

Amazing beach 🏖️ in a beautiful town, with amazing view and lots of activities. Family friendly Swimming Some of the options are sand volleyball, a beach bar, and straw umbrella. Great for a relaxing read, putting down some drinks, or getting your daily activity in with Volleyball!
Faisal I — Google review
From the Miradouro at Largo das Rivas, enjoy a stunning panoramic view over Praia dos Pescadores — a golden beach nestled beneath Albufeira’s old town cliffs. Colorful fishing boats dot the shore, and the sweeping ocean vista makes this a perfect spot for photos, reflection, and sunset watching.
Esrf G — Google review
Such a nice beach. Plenty of room even when it’s busy. Could possibly do with one more toilet when it’s busy but that’s made up for by the bar. The bar has very good drinks and tasty sandwiches, ended up spending more time at the beach than planned due to the bar
Mark M — Google review
Beautiful location for a beach.🏖️ Fine sand and next to no wind compared to the sufer beaches. But u are not allowed to play ball at the water which is ridiculous, so you would have to go to the volleyball field.
Mattia S — Google review
Breath taking views of the sun, sand, sea and the shoreline. Lovely weather. Clean blue water and sand beach surrounded by cafes, bars and seafood restaurants. Great ambience and laid back atmosphere adds to the overall experience. Soak in the sun and enjoy the views sipping on some beer with friends is a good way to spend your day here! Neat and clean surroundings.😎👌
Rajat B — Google review
A great beach with lots of variety. It is a bit more activity than it’s neighboring beaches, with sand volleyball, a beach bar, and straw umbrella. It also had less wind than some of the other beaches because it was more covered. Great for a relaxing read, putting down some drinks, or getting your daily activity in with Volleyball!
Quentin P — Google review
The day we were here it was sunny, but it was just before the start of the prime summer season, so there were not a lot of people. The water was cold too, although it may warm up towards the middle to end of summer. The beach is a small cove at the bottom of a steep walkway. The sand was nice and I would imagine on a hot summer day with warmer water, this would be a nice place to visit. The town where the beach is located is also nice to walk around.
Ted E — Google review
Near the center and good for families with small children, but cold water. Nice views from the top, many restaurants nearby. Finding parking spot could be tricky.

Nice beach for relaxing and surfing. Be aware that getting in and out can be tricky and there are currents. So recommended for advanced beginners / intermediate surfers. Further there is a nice outlook, a bar/restaurant and surf rentals/schools around.

Perfect beach off season with services of the restaurant that makes it easy with a toddler

Very cool surf beach with toilets, showers, hire and lessons all on site. Cafe open from 12 ⏰
Sam B — Google review
Excellent Surf spot 35-45min (by car) North of Lisbon. The beach can be a bit challenging for non surfers but still worthwhile visit. Beautiful but rugged terrain surrounding the beach. Well equipped dressing rooms & showers are available. All forms of Surfing gears are available for hiring and surf lessons can be booked on the spot. The Beach has a nice Bar & Restaurant with a well balanced menu and not too pricey. A trendy surfer-spot to hang out with fellow Surfers of all ages.
Pieter M — Google review
Beautiful beach in between cliffs. Very famous surf spot, but there are also some trekking options on the cliffs. There is a parking but spaces are limited, especially on weekends. There are a restaurant/bar, some bathrooms and showers. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating the day we stopped there.
OMPBL — Google review
Best surfing 🏄‍♂️ spot in the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve. Handy for all levels. Lots of rentals there, changing rooms, toilets, food and coffee, drinks. Will come back!

Beautiful beach 🏖️ The atmosphere is cosy. Another option other than the Algarve. But the water is little bit cold.
Sonale S — Google review
Great beach for families. Fairly reasonable priced sun "huts" at the southern end (10 Euro vs 20 Euro other places). Waves can be big, so more suitable for older children.

Beautiful beach with cafés and restaurants as well clean public bathrooms. During low tide, a shallow pool forms on the northern end, ideal for younger swimmers. Elsewhere, the waves are a bit more vigorous.

A narrow beach that seems to stretch a mile! The views and landscape are beautiful. The beach can get quite windy. I recommend grabbing a tent or bringing a windscreen with you. We set up shop, and got straight to reading. It’s a perfect beach to relax, play cards, read, and enjoy some downtime on a Sunday heading into the week!

Decently nice and cute park. No flat fee sadly. Every activity has its own fee which is annoyingly inconvenient. Even the friendly staff is annoyed by it, but can’t change it. Hope the owners understand and change the pricing structure, then I’d upgrade my rating.

Very nice ambient. Great for kids and their birthday parties.
Jorge B — Google review
I do not recommend. We had a friendly and professional guide but the tree climbing park is very small as most of it is in maintenance. You’ll be done in 20/30min, for 15€ it’s a bit pricey and really disappointing that the staff doesn’t let you know that half of the facility is broken. On top of this every activity has to be paid, 6€ for one Tarzan jump is kind of ridiculous.
Éric T — Google review
We arrived 2 hours before close, but we're told we couldn't do any activities, despite us literally being the only guests there. We were told to come back the next day, when we did archery and tree climbing. The archery was ok but there was only one bow, and 4 arrows. Each arrow was not good quality in one way or another, making it difficult to use. There was also only one target between 6 of us. The tree climbing was good fun but could probably do with a little maintenance for rust etc. The staff however were very friendly and helpful
