Berwick-Upon-Tweed Barracks and Main Guard is a museum housed in an 18th-century barracks designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor. It was one of the first purpose-built military barracks in Britain, accommodating 600 men and 36 officers. The museum features exhibits on military history, including the 'By Beat of Drum' exhibition showcasing the life of British infantrymen from the Civil War to World War I.
A very interesting exhibition covering the barracks history. Very reasonable admission cost. 3 separate exhibitions. Highly recommended

Nice bit of history within these walls. Fairly priced tickets give access to a few museums but alot of the other buildings are not accessible unfortunately. I would say it's worth a visit if you are in the area visiting.
Scott — Google review
Another main place i wanna visit again because it was temporarily closed when i been there and couldn’t visit inside but happy at least walk around and enjoy the views and atmosphere.
Win T — Google review
It is such a wonderful museum, full of interesting articles and artefacts, and including information from genuine officer records. Memorable tribute to the King's Own Scottish Highlanders, too. With displays of uniforms, artillery and medals, including six Victoria Crosses (not the real thing, obviously) with stiries about the people who received them. More memorable than Edinburgh Castle, in my opinion. Wonderful volunteers make the experience unforgettable.
Kath T — Google review
Nice way to spend an hour or two. Interesting about the history of British military however I’d have liked more about the actual barracks and life there. There was one really interesting bit. Great selection of uniforms, medals and weapons 🔫 gift shop is nice. Toilets ✅ Barracks are nice to look at and good for photos.
L A — Google review
Been looking forward to visiting as a military history buff and a veteran then to find that if you are disabled you are stuck to the ground floor, very little effort made to accommodate disabled and to think that many veterans are disabled. I am sure the amount of money taken at the door and many grant available that stair lifts and ramps. But what I was able to see was informative to a point.
Pete N — Google review
Fantastic place to visit. Three different buildings to explore. Giving a timescale story of the barracks and the town of Berwick. Fantastic displays, models.there are canons and a whole array of different weapons on display Take a walk around the square and take in the atmosphere

Historic Sites
Berwick-upon-Tweed Castle and Ramparts are the remains of a medieval castle and complete Renaissance fortifications that surround the historic town. The castle, with its unique history, was extended by Edward of England in the 13th century to encircle the entire town. Located just a couple of miles south of the Scottish border, this northern English town has a gritty individuality shaped by its turbulent past.
The walk around the ramparts and town walls is stunning. The walk can be completed quickly in around an hour, but we took our time reading all of the information boards and looking at all of the views - this took around 2 hours. The views are nothing short of fantastic almost all the way around. Highly recommend you do this walk!
John C — Google review
The rampart area is great with free parking nearby. It's a good walk with wonderful views and lovely looking houses. What let's the town down is its amenities. We didn't see any nice cafes or pubs, and it looks like everything needs a good scrub! Buildings are grubby and decaying, and that's before they were caked in seagull poo! We were disappointed to be honest.
Edwina J — Google review
NOTE: I roamed the ramparts alone for free, did not join a tour. Historically, an amazing place to visit and explore. Don’t expect to see any castle remains, as the castle was dismantled to build the ramparts. It’s amazing to walk the ramparts, see their size, and understand the defence mechanisms built to protect the town. Great walk, and great views. I’m so glad I stopped in for a stroll.
Rhys D — Google review
Such a lovely place to visit. Unfortunately the castle grounds are not accessible as its used as a kiddies holiday centre but you can walk round it and Berwick is full of nice things to look at.
Andy R — Google review
It is very good to see from the higher ground but it's a shame there is nothing open to get into and explore. It is the same thing as you walk round. There are minimal information boards around but nothing too much if you are truly interested in knowing about the place.
Adam B — Google review
I can’t think of any other town or city which has such amazing ramparts as Berwick-Upon-Tweed! We visited late August but it was quite a cold and windy evening when we explored the ramparts. A lot of time, effort and expense has gone in to making the ramparts both safe, attractive and accessible with lots of information points and great views out to see. It was lovely to see so many people strolling, walking dogs, exploring this stunning piece of history. Definitely somewhere to explore on any visit to Berwick-Upon-Tweed! Hope to make a return visit but in warmer, less windy weather.
Anne S — Google review
Outstanding Elizabethan fortifications of walls and impressive earthworks. Great walk around the town which the ramparts encompass with really good views. Plenty of information boards and benches and interesting stopping off points. Access on and off at various points. Highly recommended.

Great day out, plenty to see, we walked around the city wall, stopped off a the old guard house, walked the pier to the light house and these probably still more to do. These loads of shops, and places to eat.

A lot of rooms with few bits of information in , Not enough information on the place it self, the barracks not enough sitting places to enjoy the reading Staff were good and friendly

It is a museum situated inside the Kings Own Barracks in Berwick. It has a lot of things to see and what I was interested in is the replica of the Berwick castle. It has 4 separate exhibitions including an art gallery. If you have English Hermitage membership it has free entry.
Stanly P — Google review
Small but lovely. Interactive for children. Working phone. ☎️ Massive dragon tunnel. Fish finding competition. We got in with entry to the barracks £23 family of 5. Kids loved this part of our day. Burrell collection included (kids didn’t like that bit)
L A — Google review
I'll be honest I was expecting a great deal out of a local museum but this was great the kids loved it and so did I. The staff where amazing, friendly and helpful. The exhibitions where wonderful and I learnt things too!
Matt D — Google review
Absolutely fantastic for kids. We went on good Friday and there was Easter card making station, a large area for kids downstairs, upstairs a dressing up station as knights and a dragon exhibit, a station to do stone rubbings and reassemble broken pottery, and downstairs a replica of old Berwick town. My 3 year old.loved it. They are not English heritage but if you are a member or have bought a ticket to the barracks that day they will honour it. We left a donation though due to the amount of Easter cards my daughter made!!

If you're looking for a delightful way to explore the stunning scenery around Berwick-Upon-Tweed, look no further than Berwick Boat Trips. Departing from the quayside, just a short stroll from Oil Mill Lane holiday cottage, these daily excursions offer an array of options to suit every adventurer's taste.
We booked an evening Seafari trip (I read that this is the best time of day to see dolphins if they are in the area), and we were not disappointed. We were entertained for over an hour with the dolphins jumping in and out of the water, racing the boat right next to the hull. There were lots of baby ones too. It was amazing. The captain was great, explaining all the seabirds, seals and dolphin activity, and making sure we had a great experience. The sun on the sea was beautiful too as we went back to Berwick. Big thank-you. It made our day, and our trip to Northumberland.
Janet M — Google review
I’ve been in this a few times now in various states of weather. With friends, on my own and with my ferret. It’s always informative and original so never gets boring. It’s relaxing and exciting. The captain of the boat is good at his job, welcoming and well educated on the locale. I live local so will def be out there again. Thank you so much x
Joy M — Google review
Great time with the family . A pod of dolphins were all round the boat making the trip extra special. The boat was very clean and the staff were great. It was a hour boat trip but as soon as the dolphins turned up I think we were out longer. I lost track of time 😊. The experienced captain knew where they were and what to do so that we could get to see them for as long as we could. Very knowledgeable info given during the trip via the captain’s mic throughout. Brilliant I would highly recommend. Absolute bargain.
Jollie J — Google review
We booked the safari tour and it didn't disappoint. We saw seals ,lots of birds , including my favourite the puffins and then we saw the dolphins which got so close and played around the boat for ages. Staff were great and their knowledge was amazing.
Lynn A — Google review
Really enjoyed out boat trip. I wish you could hear the captain speak a bit clearer and more commentary on where we were. Unfortunately no dolphins. We booked the sea safari which was 2 hours and it got cancelled due to the weather. We rebooked for later but we didnt get the sea safari just the 1 hour slot and was £75 for 5 people. I thought that was very reasonable. Great boat. Great knowledge from what I could hear. We loved it
Ashleigh B — Google review
We did the estuary trip, really enjoyed ourselves, saw lots of seals. Really great guide, great views of the cliffs. Captain was determined to find dolphins as there had been reports of them earlier in the day. Unluckily we didn't see any, but the trip was still well worth it and we felt it was good value for money.
Martin W — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our estuary boat tour! We were on our first family holiday with our 6-month-old, staying at the local Haven site. The tour lasted about an hour and there was plenty to see, including birds and seals. Our little one loved taking it all in—and she slept very well afterwards!
Jamie I — Google review
I thoroughly recommend taking a trip with Berwick Boat Trips. My adult daughter and I booked in advance for the one hour journey upstream and then out into the estuary where we saw several seals in the water. Visibility was limited by a sea haar, but we could see the bridges, the banks and the seals when we grew close to them. It was easy to board the Border Belle. One man came on in a wheelchair, so no worries for the less mobile. The commentator was knowledgeable and clear and his staff were efficient. The online booking service was friendly and personal with a fast response to questions.

Beautiful walk from a height of the ancient Berwick-on-Tweed. Steeped in history, plenty of arty crafty shops. It even has free car parking near to the B&M store. Numerous options on places to eat. The Town Walls walk is spectacular.
Tony S — Google review
The Berwick walls are absolutely fantastic to walk – one of the best-preserved examples of Elizabethan defences in the country. You can do a full circuit in under an hour, and it gives you brilliant views over the town, the River Tweed and out to the North Sea. Along the way there are bastions, gun emplacements and plaques explaining the history, so you really get a feel for why Berwick was so strategically important. It’s all free to access and very easy walking on well-kept paths. A must-do if you’re visiting the town, whether you’re into history or just want a pleasant stroll with great views.
David H — Google review
Nice views from the walls, you can see where the cannon used to be. There are not many information boards.
Adam B — Google review
We loved walking around Berwick Town Walls. Plenty to see on the way round, with one or two museums and lots of signs describing the history. Some pretty spectacular views as well! If you park in the free Castle Gate car park you can walk on to the wall within a few minutes. Highly recommended and there is also a play park accessible from it for those with children. Did I mention it’s free as well?

Nestled in the charming town of Berwick, The Maltings stands as England's most northern theatre and cinema, offering a vibrant hub for entertainment throughout the year. With an impressive lineup that includes films, comedy shows, theatrical performances, children's events, classical concerts, opera, dance recitals, and live music acts, there's something to captivate everyone.
This film changed my life. I walked out of that cinema a different woman than the woman that entered into that cinema. The raw acting, the music, the laughter, the poise, the dancing, the cinematography, the real theatre experience. Man I feel like a woman. I just adore it at Fort Kinnaird Odeon.

In the last fortnight, the Maltings has shown the film 'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, which we both enjoyed immensely. Explore the Dewars Lane Lowry Trail in Berwick, a lesser-known connection to the famous artist L.S. Lowry. While Berwick is renowned for its Elizabethan Walls, not many are aware of Lowry's frequent holidays there and his creation of over 30 sketches of the area. Embark on a pleasant walk along the trail to discover more about this artistic link and enjoy the scenic surroundings that inspired Lowry's work.
Nice walk along the L.S.Lowry trail today.
Allen B — Google review
We picked up a leaflet in the library and took a pleasant day following the trail around Berwick and across to Spitall. We found it easy to follow and very enjoyable.
Clare G — Google review
I love the challenge of a trail so I was excited to spend my first day in Berwick-upon-Tweed completing it. I'd downloaded a map, but also picked up a paper version at my hotel. A couple were a bit of a challenge to locate as the markers on the map could be a little out compared to the actual location. It's a fantastic way to explore Berwick-upon-Tweed, Tweedmouth, and Spittal. We had mixed weather so stopped for food when it was at it's worst. There was so much history and architecture to explore alongside the art of Lowry. Like many my introduction to Lowry was through "that song" and Lowry's industrial paintings, so it was fascinating seeing where he painted here. It's a great activity for all the family, you'll get superb views of the town, River Tweed, and that stunning Northumberland Coast. There's numerous defensive features to explore in this historically besieged town. If you're not mobile enough to complete all of the trail on foot there's plenty of free on-street parking and short term parking around the trail.

Sights & Landmarks
Royal Border Bridge, completed in 1850, is an iconic stone railway bridge with 28 arches and colorful lights that illuminate it at night. Located near the Scottish border in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England's northernmost town, this historic structure offers stunning views over the River Tweed. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the river to admire this Victorian marvel or explore nearby attractions such as Paxton House and Berwick Lighthouse.
Royal Border Bridge is Grade I listed railway viaduct built between 1847 and 1850, when it was opened by Queen Victoria. It was designed by Robert Stephenson who was a son of railway pioneer George Stephenson. It was built for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway and is still in regular use today. The bridge is 659 metres long and constructed in stone. It has 28 arches. The railway bridge is 37 metres tall above the river level which provides you a nice platform for bird eye view from above. Its so picturesque and one of the 3 bridges next to each other.
Win T — Google review
This bridge is one of the most impressive of railway viaducts and stands high above the Tweed. It carries the East Coast Main Line from London to Edinburgh across the river. It was also once used by trains on the branch line Berwick-Tweedmouth-Kelso-St Boswells. The approach from the south is on a curve and the viaduct can be seen in the distance from the train. It was opened by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1850. The railway station stands immediately to the north end of the viaduct (see picture below). Grade 1 listed. There are river walks on either side of the Tweed which pass under all three bridges. Further upstream from the bridge salmon are caught from February to September, using shore-based seine nets, the Tweed being the finest salmon river in the United Kingdom.

The center provides valuable insights into local attractions such as Spittal Beach, Lady Waterford Hall, and Berwick-upon-Tweed Barracks.

Not worth visiting. There are only a few leaflets on display. No further information. I’m sure the staff could help with a few things, but you can’t honestly call this a tourist information centre!

Well worth a visit as much more than just an information centre, did not venture upstairs for audio presentation. Bonus for me was model of HMS Berwick. Lovely knowledgeable staff also refreshments available at entrance and gift shop.

Located within the library, the lady who I spoke to was really friendly and helpful. She gave me a nice fold out town map with all the main sights on, and also printed off details of the coastal walking North of Berwick. There were plenty of leaflets for the wider area as well. Thanks, we had a lovely stay :)

We arrived in Berwick upon Tweed and went to the tourist information centre for a parking disc. What lovely ladies! They were so helpful. We were so pleased they advised the wall walk - half an hour passing beautiful scenery and making you feel 'on top of the world's in parts. There was a free historical video in the centre and a museum, plus refreshments with seating. Well done to the staff who were in there on Monday 21st June! It made our day.
Janet C — Google review
Good covid precautions in place but aside from a very helpful man at the door directing us to the TI, they are completely useless. Half of the tourist information stuff is roped off so you can't get to it and the library staff are completely uninterested in helping. If you want tourist information do not enter this building, go down the street to the Visitor Centre where they couldn't be any more friendly or helpful.
Colin W — Google review
Fantastic staff who are always more than happy to help out in whatever way they can, and such a beautiful gift shop! Rumour has it the TIC is going to be moved off of the high street and tucked away around the corner on a less well-travelled road. I hope not, because the high street location is perfect: easy to find, easy to get to, and all of the information displayed in the windows (such as the tide table showing safe crossing times to Holy Island) helps visitors even outside of business hours.

Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks along the shore, observing kids and dogs playing in the sea, while also admiring the beautiful cliffs and town views.
Lovely wee place, beach is nice plenty rock pools. Nice cycle round berwick.

Such a beautiful place to visit. It's a nice walk to the lighthouse. The view from the lighthouse is amazing.

There are so many different aspects to Berwick-upon-Tweed I find it difficult to say which is my favourite, but I certainly enjoyed walking out across the Magdalene Golf Club to the Coastal path which gives great views across the beach and out to sea. This is a proper beach, just sand, rocks, rock pools and the sea! You can continue round from the beach and come in at the far end of the harbour. A very interesting area to visit!

Nice views of cliffs and the town, but not a beautiful looking beach, though I would imagine it has some very interesting rock pools.

The vibrant atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for both casual gatherings and special occasions.
Really pleasant and accommodating, booked late in the evening with short notice but staff had a lovely window table ready with a blanket and water bowl for the dog. Delicious seafood platter and burger, pleasant service and good atmosphere. Thank you

We were advised to try Foxtons by the owners of the guesthouse we were staying in and really enjoyed our visit. We had two starters, the pate and the black pudding with poached egg. Fabulous portions and delightfully presented. Our mains were Fillet Steak and the Traitors burger, and once again, both were well cooked and presented. The portions were more than enough, and the member of staff who attended to us was pleasant, friendly, and attentive. Lovely little spot!

Very disappointed after visiting here. Ordered Venison pie. The pie itself was okay however a little dry inside. Although, it was packed with meat which was quite tender. However, the accompanying veg was shocking. It had all quite clearly been microwaved and had dried out. The mash was almost inedible it was that dry and starchy. Asked for a little bit of gravy to moisten everything up a little in order to be able to swallow it. I was brought out a small jug of hot water with gravy granules mixed into it all of which had not fully dissolved. I was charged an extra £3 for the pleasure. We would definitely not return.

Good quality food at reasonable prices. Large seating area, so booking may not be necessary. Varied menu.

Lovely place. Been here twice and it's great for dietary requirements. The food is delicious. The outside seating is in the sun over lunch. What more could you want. The vegan burger was better than McDonald's mcplant according to my son and that has to be the highest praise from a teenager. He loved the burger. It actually nearly beat him and that's also I heard of as he is always hungry. Definitely want to come back.

If you’re visiting Berwick-upon-Tweed, I highly recommend a stop at Foxtons Wine Bar and Grill. The food was truly delightful, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I opted for the famous "Traitor Gate" burger, and it was exceptional. The combination of quality beef patties invaded by Scottish haggis, served with excellent fries and a rich peppercorn sauce, was incredibly satisfying. It’s a genius take on a classic and a great nod to the border location! Everything was cooked perfectly, and the portion was generous. A top-tier experience—I would absolutely recommend this dish and the restaurant overall.

Great place to eat if staying in Berwick. We had fish sharing platter which was delicious. Squid rings, whitebait, shrimps, smoked salmon and smoked haddock pate with lots of warm bread and butter and a side of chips. Atmosphere was great although lighting was a little dim in some areas. Overall lovely experience and well worth a visit

Nestled in the charming town of Spittal, near Berwick upon Tweed, Northern Edge Coffee has been delighting coffee enthusiasts since its inception in 2015. This family-run roastery draws inspiration from the rich history and stunning landscapes of the area, crafting a unique selection of coffees that pay homage to local heritage. With an inviting atmosphere featuring rustic decor and both indoor and outdoor seating options, it’s an ideal spot for any weather.
Northern Edge Coffee is a great cafe serving a quality range of coffees and wider refreshments all within a very well designed and very cool setting. The design of the cafe is superb and the staff are professional and helpful. You even get the chance to take a photo with a zebra... Which isn't something every coffee shop offers. Find yourself in Berwick upon Tweed then I recommend seeking out this place.

A brilliant coffee shop, with a lovely atmosphere. The cakes are tasty and the coffee is good. It’s also one of the rare places in the area that seems to be open after 3pm. The decor is fab here too, quirky but very comfortable. There’s loads of seating - downstairs and upstairs with some outside seating too. It’s also dog friendly. I’d definitely recommend coming for a visit if you’re in the area.

Cosy little coffee shop with a good menu. Great atmosphere and decor make it an ideal stopping point. Although disappointed that although they roast their own beans, you don't have a choice in your coffee. They only offer one type of bean for your coffee.

Surely great place to stop in for coffee. It was snow there when i visit and looking for cuppa coffee. Just found it when running to high street. Great service and good staff. Thats the only reason i like to go local places not the chain ones. The coffee was fantastic and lovely cosy atmosphere. Definitely recommend happily.

Lovely place to stop if you're walking around the wall or after you've been to the Berwick lighthouse. Nice coffees and sausage rolls.
Dan — Google review
It's one of the coolest coffee shops I've ever been in. Love how you can see where they actually make their own coffee. The overall look of the place is great. Quirky features. Comfortable chairs. All the history and character of the building are still intact. It's good when people who use a space respect its history. The coffee itself was very nice. It was smooth and fragrant. Not bitter at all. I always order my coffee black, so if it's not good, it's easy to tell. This was definitely some top quality stuff. The chocolate brownie I had was lovely, too. Perfectly cooked with a soft gooey centre. If I lived in Berwick, this would be my regular. Unfortunately, I don't, but when I'm down at my caravan, this will be where I go.
Ryan B — Google review
Nice coffee, but not warm enough. Average cakes, less than average sandwiches. Service and food has gone downhill. Used to love this place but now feel it's not worth the money.

I went to this cafe late afternoon thinking it was still open as someone was sitting outside in the sunny courtyard , to use the loo primarily. But it was shut ! & then she turned out to be a really kind lovely person who opened up specially for me to use the large georgeous and clean bathroom !!! It also seemed a very lovely cafe inside with space and I was very sad it was actually closed ..... it would be a nice safe place to sit outside too... Next time I am in Berwick I will go back and eat ! and report back on the food ..... I will definitely support this small woman-run business because she was just INSTANTLY so kind WITHOUT my asking !

Specialty Museums
Located within the Berwick Barracks in England, the King's Own Scottish Borderers Regimental Museum showcases a rich collection of historical documents, photographs, and artifacts related to the regiment. Visitors can explore uniforms, medals, silverware, and weapons that narrate the regiment's history from 1689 to the present day. The museum also features an ex-soldier who provides insights into the exhibitions. Additionally, there is a gift shop at the entrance to the barracks.
A really great and informative museum covering many historical periods and has lots of memorabilia to see and read about. Staff are very helpful, the rooms and route are well laid & thought out and are on two floors, (ground & first). There's also a smaller museum inside at the back of the courtyard with a treasure hunt for kids. There's a small shop and restrooms. Definitely include on a day trip to Berwick.

K.O.S.B. Museum, Very Interesting and Educational This was a great find, we came to the barracks not really knowing what to expect but what we found was very interesting and very educational. I would urge anyone with the slightest interest in History and the Military to visit this gem. The collection chronologically traces the history of the regiment over 300 years to the present day. The history of The King’s Own Scottish Borderers is traced through displays of uniforms, headdresses, figures, paintings, badges, medals, weapons and relics from the various campaigns in which it has been involved. There is a wonderful display of regimental silverware including some really quirky pieces. The Colours Room where the last of the Regiments Flags are displayed is very atmospheric. There is a car park 50 metres from the Barracks. Facilities on site: Toilets (including disabled), a Museum sales point and light refreshments are available in the English Heritage shop. Due to the listed nature of the buildings, there is no wheelchair access to the upper floors of the Museum. This is one of three museums within the Barracks and the K.O.S.B. museum is the one keeps you there for the longest time as there is so much to take in and understand about this remarkable regiment. If you are in Berwick then this museum is a must see. I intend to return so that I can give more time to this remarkable collection. Until November 2018 there is an “Aftermath Exhibition” portraying the life soldiers returned to and the difficulties they faced finding work.

Nicely presented with about 20 pieces of artwork on display across the room which was divided into sections. Particularly liked the artwork of Anne Redpath which was on display when we visited. Nestled in the charming town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Audela is a delightful dining destination that showcases contemporary British cuisine crafted from regional ingredients. This stylish eatery, located conveniently near the Bridge Street Bazaar antique market, offers an inviting atmosphere where you can savor fresh seafood sourced from nearby Eyemouth in Scotland. Audela's menu features a variety of delectable options throughout the day.
Audela is an outstanding restaurant in Berwick upon Tweed serving a highly specialist menu that's delivered in a stylish setting by professional staff. I opted to sample several starters instead of opting for one main course and this was a smart thing to do as I was able to sample several of their exquisite dishes all of which set the highest standards. The sauces and flavours created in each dish was superb and of particular note was the salmon and scallops served with an orange sauce which was a taste sensation. The only reason for 3 stars rather than 5 for atmosphere is nothing to do with the restaurant purely that I visited at a very quiet time in early New Year so the place was very quiet but at busier times I'm sure the atmosphere would be buzzing and it would be top rated. Highly recommend a visit. Super talented team and I don't think you can go wrong with their menu, it's outstanding.

Very nice, clean tasty authentic Turkish restaurant. All of our meals were lovely, served promptly. Not the cheapest Turkish Restaurant but good ingredients and plentiful. A standard bottle of wine was reasonable value at £20. Overall a very fair price. Worth noting the doors lead straight into a couple of the seats and it gets stuffy meaning the doors are opened periodically to let in air. If you are susceptible to cold it might be worth avoiding those seats. It gets very busy and seating is cosy. Perhaps not the place to share intimate news, but a nice bubbly atmosphere overall. Very clean and tidy place.

Coronation Park is one of the lovely landscaped parks in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England, offering a pleasant walk around the town with beautiful views overlooking the River Tweed. It is located close to what remains of Berwick Castle and provides a relaxing atmosphere for visitors to enjoy nature and take leisurely strolls. The park is part of the town's attractions, making it an ideal spot for tourists seeking outdoor activities and scenic landscapes during their visit to this English gem.
There are two parks on the side of Berwick railway station. One is castle Vale park and the other is coronation park. Coronation park is a starting point of a walk as per the map given to see the beauty of Berwick. The park gives a close view of the castle remains. There are nice art pieces made out of wood.and children would enjoy. This is not a play park.

What a fabulous little park to explore. It stretches from the roadside down a steep hill to the edge of the River Tweed. The top part has formal gardens and a sculpture trail. It's also the sight of Gallows Knowe, where hangings took place. As you traverse down towards the river you can see the remains of Berwick Castle to your left and alongside the River Tweed to the right you can see "That Boat", a stunning driftwood sculpture. There are fabulous views to be had along the River, and you have the most amazing view of the Royal Border Bridge which carries the railway. You can walk alongside the River on the Berwick Estuary Walk. I went past the White Walls, under the Royal Border Bridge, and headed back up to the railway station via Castle Vale Park. This not suitable for persons with limited mobility, below the top section of Coronation Park. There are no facilities here. There's no parking. I parked on street a little farther up past the Toll House.

A lovely little public park, with some beautiful carvings setting off the sweeping view of the river. Berwick is a wonderful town and this park is a superb stop off - you don't need loads of time, we probably spent twenty minutes here (it was quite windy on the day!) and the kids loved examining the excellent carving, and learning something from the engravings on them... For example, what I a group of owls called? Find out by visiting this park!

Coronation Park is a park located at the bottom of a hill that takes you to a walking trail along the River Tweed. Where you can get nice views of the Royal Border Bridge as well as the ruined Berwick Castle. It's a small park, but well maintained with a few flower beds and plenty of seating, a few of which are sheltered. No major reason to visit except to get to the trail and aforementioned sights.

Nestled in a shallow valley leading down towards the tweed valley and with a good view across the river, this park is relatively small but pleasant. The park contains a number of carved wooden animals which make it worth visiting if only to see them. From the lower part of the park a path leads down to the riverside walk along the Tweed. Combine Coronation Park with Castle Vale Park and the Riverside to make a pleasant circular walk.

Nestled close to the charming town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Haven Berwick Holiday Centre serves as a fantastic launchpad for those eager to delve into the rich history of Northumberland. This delightful park boasts an array of amenities, including an inviting indoor pool and fun-filled children's play areas, all while providing direct access to stunning sandy beaches. Guests can choose from various caravan accommodations, including options that welcome pets.
Great caravan very modern even though it was a bronze van...Great location for shopping walks and beach....Bingo great fun and massive prizes....resturaunt was a real let down started day one there's was no scampi or Fish available the fryer had broken so understandable.Day 2 again no fish dishes because the fryer was still out of commission and then after a few unsuccessful orders attempts because other foods weren't available steak, steakpie, pasta, sausage and mash and mixed grill. At that point we gave up and went back to the caravan and had a buffet with the snack stuff we had bought for extras...the shortage continued for most of our stay...not ideal as my dad loves going out for meals and it left a big gap in his holiday.

Really lovely Park with beautiful surroundings. Staff have been super friendly. Downside it food is pretty expensive which you expect drinks are priced way too high when you have a few kids. Also swimming was great but no signage to say you need a £1 for lockers before you go in and once we had got in staff couldn't open till to change notes for coins which wasnt helpful really. Jordan in the entertainment lounge was amazing and made the kids evenings when he was working. Would definitely come back again but would eat off site more

We decided to arrive one day later than planned which was really easy as the app allowed check-in at any time on Saturday. We arrived around 6:30 p.m., and although it was already dark, the security team checked us in quickly and were very polite and professional. When we got to the caravan, I noticed one of the single beds was missing a duvet cover. I called security, and within about eight minutes they brought one over. I was genuinely impressed with the service — it really made a big difference to our stay.

We have been to Berwick holiday park a few times over the last couple of years, the staff are the best staff we have come across on any holiday park we have stayed. This time we stayed Halloween week and on taking our grandson to swimming he banged his head on a metal pole, he had a bump. Katie and Elvis in the swimming baths were so kind, letting us know they were here for us if our grandson became unwell, made us feel happy in knowing we had back up. Well done haven Berwick 👍🏻

Always have a fantastic break here. Great for public transport just a 10 minute walk to train station with direct trains into Edinburgh and down to Newcastle. Campsite always spot on, flat and easily accessible. Town centre a short walk away great for exploring local area a further a field with lots of fantastic places within easy reach.

We got one of there bronze vans. Clean basic and excellent value. Been here for 4 days before in bad weather this time it was spot on. Arrival is a breeze everything booked in . Norma northeast friendliness without fuss. Site was clean with.well stocked shop Went just out of season so quiet took the basic package within what we always do.. lovely walks to the beach and into town via golf course and the millitary ramparts. Everywhere was clean, with friendly helpful people. Will be going back again. Recommended.

Edit: appreciate the professional reply. I was unaware of the options in the app. I'll add a star for my mistake there. Thanks! We had a pet friendly caravan and let's just say it's clear they don't deep clean these properly. Couch was nasty. Sinks also smelt bad and needed a deep clean. No toilet scrubbers Arcade IMO isn't as good as Craig Tara, ticket machines regularly breaking with only 2 active out of 4 on the main bit. Night entertainment was... poor. Singers were not entertaining and it was always singers no dancers or comedians etc. Bingo was on each night which the missus liked. There's a chippy and papa John's inside the arcade, prices are relatively good value imo. Never used the restaurant. Beach nearby which is great 5-10 minute walk, nice walk but you need to go down several stairs. Ice cream van at the top if the weather is nice. Also golf right next to the park. Town is really close by and it has a huge selection of wee shops, cafes and a great view of the bridge. Nice wee walk around and a local chippy as well just up from B&Ms is very good!

Our caravan holiday in Berwick-upon-Tweed was a lovely mix of nostalgia, scenery, and that easy seaside rhythm you only find on the Northumberland coast. Waking up to sea air, watching the light change over the water, and spending unhurried days exploring made it one of those breaks that feels simple but special. We loved walking down to Berwick Beach — a long, golden stretch of sand backed by dunes and sea views that seem to go on forever. The kids built castles, we paddled in the shallows, and the only sound was waves and gulls. Evenings meant quiet time at the caravan, watching sunsets glow across the coast and listening to the soft crash of the tide. Peaceful, scenic, and full of little moments to slow down. Unfortunately, we did leave early (instead of a week we stayed just the weekend) because of a few factors - our autistic children were very overwhelmed by the volume inside the entertainment venue, the park seems to be a signal dead zone which meant we were missing business emails and the kids couldn't use YouTube to regulate like they usually would and our caravan was beside the main complex and kids were running wild, screaming and shouting really late into the night.

Paxton House is an impressive 18th-century Palladian stately home located east of Coldstream. It boasts original interiors, a remarkable collection of Chippendale furniture, and Georgian costumes and paintings from Scotland's national collection. The estate offers various activities for kids, including special trails and exhibitions. Visitors can explore the extensive woodland and grounds or take a boat trip along the Tweed River to learn about local wildlife and history.
We had the most incredible day celebrating our wedding at Paxton House. The venue was stunning and adaptable. Mel was truly wonderful, no job or idea was too big, small or weird for her! She was down with all our suggestions and committed to making them work. We loved that the venue was so ready to let us make our day specific to us - like bringing in an Iranian chef we loved from London to do the catering and having drinks and canapés by the river. We could not have been happier with the whole experience, from start to finish. Thanks to everyone at Paxton for making it such a special day!

The exterior of the house is attractive but fairly plain. The guided tour was well executed and included lots of interesting information about the history of the house and it's past owners. The tour starts with the plainer rooms and works it's way round to increasingly ornate ones, finishing at the very impressive picture gallery. The formal gardens are mainly lawned with some flowerbeds around the edges. The cafe serves a good selection of hot and cold food, cakes and drinks. It poured with rain when I visited so I didn't explore the wider grounds. I recommend a visit to Paxton House.

Beautiful house. We've thoroughly enjoyed the guided house tour for 1.5 hours. Very informative. Tour guide Carol was extremely knowledgeable and witty which made the time fly by. I didn't want to leave!

Gorgeous place to visit with beautiful grounds. They often have a marquee with stall and unique handmade items. This was a bonus. The coffee shop is very charming and lovely coffee and scones.

First visit. Did a walk of the gardens. Ruby the cocker spaniel enjoyed herself - on lead. £7.50 a ticket. 2 adults total 16.00 Inc fee. Tearoom was good value. If in area - worth a look!

Grounds lovely but cafe very poor. The scone was dry and past its best - the gf flapjack was rock hard. I think they may have changed suppliers as it used to be good. Won't be back. Very disappointing as it's a nice place

What a great tour! The house is fantastic, nice cafe, staff really nice. The highlight was the tour, very informative lots of things to see and learn, great day out. The chain suspension bridge is worth seeing too, about a mile away, walk or drive.

We had our wedding at Paxton House last weekend and what a sensational day it was. From the stunning surroundings, to the beauty of the house and most importantly, the amazing Mel who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make our day run so smoothly. We are so grateful to Mel and the Paxton House team who work incredibly hard to keep this beautiful place looking amazing and creating an atmosphere that we will never forget. Thank you so much for everything.

Haven Haggerston Castle Holiday Park is a picturesque caravan park located on the highest cliffs in Northumberland, offering stunning views of the North Sea. Visitors can access two beautiful white sand beaches via steep steps and explore rock pools during low tide. The park features various amenities including a bowling green, sports court, and entertainment options for families. Accommodation options include well-maintained caravans with modern furnishings and cooking facilities.
When we arrived we were told key was in the caravan, it was not. Thankfully after going to reception this was sorted instantly. The caravans are lovely and bigger than you'd think. The staff were lovely they always left you with a smile on your face. Overall we've had a brilliant week staying here and look forward to coming back

Absolutely brilliant family holiday in August. Beautiful site at a great price! 4 nights in a silver caravan. Spotless accommodation. Extremely comfortable. Our very first Haven holiday and we loved it. The entertainment was brilliant in the Live Lounge. Very hard working staff. Downside was the very serious Bingo where children weren't allowed to speak. Was extremely hot in the Live Lounge! Spoke to the security guard who said the air con didn't work which was disappointing. As an EV driver very disappointed with the car charging facility. 4 spaces on offer but sadly people with non EV's used them to park in. Only 2 of the 4 spaces were marked up as EV charging only which people ignored and parked there anyway. Overall though the holiday was fantastic! We've booked to go again next year for another 4 nights. Cannot recommend highly enough! A++++

So nearly a 5 ⭐ holiday. On arrival our caravan was very spacious and well equipped. Warm and easy to work everything We were in the area called castle lakes. Quiet and quite secluded as only one road in and out so no through traffic. Entertainment was ok . Facilities for grandson were good. Swimming. Soft play and of course the the arcades. The only reason I knocked of a star was our pet dog. This is not a pet friendly site. Our wee dig was not allowed into any parts of the venue. Haven advertising per friendly caravans on a non pet friendly site is very underhanded. If I had known this we would not have visited Haggerston. Unfortunately because of this we won't be returning.
John S — Google review
The caravan itself was lovely and situated lakeside making for a lovely view out of the window. We found the distance from the main building to be a pain though especially given the ridiculously small car park and overflow compared to the amount of caravans on site. The size of the main building and facilities was also disappointing and any enjoyment was quickly soured by feeling overwhelmed with claustrophobia and frustration at not being able to make use of entertainment passes due to how few seats and tables were in the live lounge. The addition of a Wetherspoons on site was a bonus and prices extremely reasonable but again, you were lucky to get a table due to overcrowding and lack of booking facilities. Don't be excited to see the EV chargers either, the spaces were filled with non EV vehicles meaning we were unable to charge our vehicle when needed.

We have had an absolutely awesome holidays. Caravan was clean and very spacious for a family of 4. Lots of activities for kids and adults. Very friendly staff and plenty of restaurants for you to choose from. Great options for delivering food into your caravan. Caravan had everything we needed to cook some simple meals throughout the day. Overall, we will definitely be back soon 😉

Home today from a good family weekend away 8 adults two caravans . Caravans were well stocked clean and tidy . The park is huge and we were 25 minutes walk from caravan to entertainment it was a struggle as my husband and mother in law are both wheelchair users we didn't state this on booking but didn't realise the size of the camp also pitch black , lighting is atrocious at night even our torches weren't bright enough and signposting was shocking we have been to haven camps and we did enjoy our weekend and all staff were lovely and very helpful on Sunday wetherspoons had no choclate sauce for pudding no smirnoff vodka and they ran out of riddles beer and sports bar far too small no tables and disabled facilities through a corridor all in all we enjoyed the holiday but dont think we'll be back to haggerston.
Angela D — Google review
Excellent facilities for the kids. The entertainment venues can be busy and difficult to getting seating during school holidays. You will need to stake out your seats but that means someone needs to go early. Golf course is great condition and excellent for a round with kids. Its not too challenging with some nice holes over water.
Kenny S — Google review
I booked haggerston in our tourer because it said it was dog friendly. Absolutely far from it. There is no where inside that you can go with dog so unable to eat our or have a drink unless sat outside and no where walkable to go. Guess it will now be same for all haven sites as they are all now weatherspooons bars. Why,?. It certainly will put alot of people off. Shower facilities are very old and dirty only one block had heating on. Very disappointing

Outdoor Activities
Cocklawburn Beach is a serene and clean stretch of sand and rock, slightly secluded but definitely worth a visit for a leisurely stroll or some water activities in the North Sea. Accessible through winding paths over dunes, it may be challenging for wheelchair users. The beach's remote location and rocky terrain make it less crowded, attracting surfers, bodyboarders, and nature enthusiasts. It's also popular among fossil collectors due to the exposed sedimentary rock layers at low tide.
It's quite secluded with only a few people on it, parking was plenty and an ice cream van, although no other amenities. There is plenty to look at and see, the sand is soft while there are plenty of rocks and rock pools to walk on and look at.
Andy F — Google review
Visited here to look for coral fossils which are rare in my more frequent haunts, I was not disappointed! Gorgeous beach, spent hours looking in all the rocks, will definitely visit again!

Fab beach really quiet friendly and a chance to chill and reflect, logs to sit on as you walk along would recommend this find if you are in the area, hopefully one day we will return.

Amazing! Plenty of free parking, and such a peaceful, quiet, and unspoilt beach. Really feels like you've found a secret beach that no-one knows about! Great for a paddle, a walk, some rock-pooling or a refreshing dip in the sea.
Leon B — Google review
Absolutely beautiful stretch of beach not a million miles away from Berwick on Tweed. Here is unspoilt, remote and made for exploring, totally suitable for families, dog walkers, beach-combers and nature lovers alike. Clean sand, rockpools, not over crowded by any means and not an amusement arcade insight, no chip shops, no kiss me quick hats, no gift shops - just pure bliss, just a totally natural lovely place.
Marc G — Google review
Terrific fresh powdery Golden Sand as far as the eye can see when low tide. It is difficult to access but is accessible with a link of parking spots and on foot unofficial paths cut through the dunes. Spectacular beach especially seahouses beach, cove cut into the cliff. The beach is full of interesting rock pools and differening levels of rock which host the perfect environment for barnacles and crabs. The waves were strong and fairly big. The sun set was pretty amazing as you could see a massive rain cloud coming from the sea. Of my visit this was by far the best place I'd seen on my short stay. Next time I would pay good money to stay in seahouses itself. Roads are partly farm access with passing places and few others seen from a distance on the shore. Please enjoy the wonder of this place.

Spittal Beach, located on the Northumberland coast near Berwick-upon-Tweed, is a wide and sandy shoreline that has been a popular destination since the 18th century. It's a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike, offering opportunities for fishing, birdwatching, and leisurely strolls along the promenade. The area is known for its peaceful atmosphere and clean surroundings.
Nice long beach for a nice walk or just to lake about on the sand and it also has somewhere to get a coffee/tea and icecream. There is also a park there for the kids including a water feature for kids to splash around in.
Terry — Google review
Although the beach is great the surroundings are very poor, public toilets closed. Only one coffee shop with a strong greasy smell. Very disappointing lovely area that requires investment.
Sónia E — Google review
A quiet and dull day at the beach with the beach shops shut. Still, it is nice to avoid the crowds. My wife was pleased to see the Yorkshire flag flying from a flagpole in one of the nearby houses gardens. Missionary work she calls it - she is from Barnsley/ Skipton. A lovely visit to The Promenade cafe. See separate review.
John N — Google review
Nice enough beach. Very quiet and great for the kids to play on. Lots of people walking their dogs as well. Very peaceful. Promenade area very tidy but not much on it. Play area at far side. For a quieter family afternoon out to the beach you couldn't wish for a better wee beach I e. quality family time. If you are looking for distractions during this time you have limited options. For me, it was a lovely pleasant area.
Will T — Google review
A stunning clean beach and this was on 26 August 2025 and it was 22C. Why is it so empty, a great safe beach for yound and old. When the sea is too cold there is a great water park the young ones can enjoy in a gated and fenced area. Nice coffe shop and ice cream close by.
Gregory H — Google review
Very clean, we only saw one heap of dog poop, the sand is very clean with only a small amount of seaweed. The waves are high enough to support surfing and it's kid and dog friendly, but be aware a lot of owners we saw had two or more dogs and they were running freely off the leads. Our dog is always on the lead and so were many others.
Jeep 6 — Google review
Perfect beach trip. Two cafes, both fine, one better than the other. Free parking and toilets. Splash park for kids. Dog friendly beach, but super clean. No dog mess and friendly dogs. Promenade cafe bar for lunch was yummy!
Alice C — Google review
Just across the river from Berwick-upon-Tweed, Spittal Beach is a wide, sandy stretch of coastline with gentle waves, clean air, and plenty of space to wander. The beach feels unspoiled and relaxed — ideal for paddling, picnics, or simply watching the tide roll in. A promenade runs alongside the sand, lined with colourful beach huts and a few cafés where you can grab an ice cream or a coffee. There’s a play park and splash area nearby too, making it great for families even on cooler days. It’s not a flashy resort, and that’s exactly what makes it special — Spittal Beach is quiet, natural, and full of old-fashioned seaside charm.
