Nestled within Waskasoo Park, the Kerry Wood Nature Centre is a haven for nature enthusiasts and families alike. The center boasts an array of engaging activities, from educational programs to sleepovers and day camps. Visitors can explore newly renovated exhibits, a natural playground, and a music garden. The interactive displays cater to children's curiosity while offering an enriching experience for all.
This is a fantastic nature centre that all of the family can enjoy. The building contains an interpretive centre and gift shop. There are public washrooms and lots of parking. There is a cool play area for kids. There is direct access to the Gaetz bird sanctuary and a 4 km trail loop My wife and I had a great time here and definitely recommend coming here.
Kirk D — Google review
A remarkably well curated nature center. Walking trails, remarkable art. Great science for children. I highly recommend it
Mark H — Google review
Checked out this wildlife sanctuary in the middle of Red Deer today. There is an interpretive center and washrooms as well as meeting rooms etc. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. You can take the paved 1km path or the 4km trail. I chose the 4k going left as it was less climbing versus taking it to the right. It was not crowded and quite a pleasant first visit. If you are looking for a change in scenery go have a look.

Kerry Wood Nature Centre in Red Deer offers scenic trails, birdwatching, and interactive exhibits—a peaceful, educational spot for nature lovers.
Wild M — Google review
I love coming here and to walk and look at the birds. Inside the nature center is really nice and informative. They also sell various kinds of bird seed.
Anastasia F — Google review
I give this place 5 stars for the beautiful nature it beholds. The building inside is a whole different story - everything is broken and the people at the desk are not welcoming.
Jordynne R — Google review
Kerry wood nature center is amazing, great Flora and fauna to be seen. The leaves and trees were lush with the previous rain 🌧 Had such a beautiful cool hike with our kiddos, they thought they going on a forest hike. Will be back soon. Love the colors of fall on the trails
Tricia L — Google review
The Kerry Wood Nature Centre is a fantastic natural area in the heart of Red Deer. The 4 km scenic trail takes just under an hour to walk and includes some inclines and steps. (People with limited mobility can enjoy the shorter trail.)You’re guaranteed to spot some interesting wildlife from one of the lookouts along the way. There’s an outdoor play area for kids to enjoy. Inside there are exhibits, artwork, and a store (which sells ice cream!) The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Heritage Ranch is a sprawling ranch and wedding venue nestled near Alberta's Red Deer River. The Westlake Grill, an on-site restaurant, offers gourmet-casual dining with a picturesque patio for enjoying meals. The ranch is an ideal location for various events such as corporate gatherings, weddings, and birthday celebrations. Additionally, it features activities like guided horseback rides, carriage and sleigh rides, as well as seasonal events like the Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt.
I’ve visited Heritage Ranch in every season and it’s such a beautiful place. So many trails for hiking and biking, beautiful ponds that are so full of life. And in the winter the horse carriage ride makes the cold snow a little more enjoyable. The food in the restaurant is quite good as well.

I got my parents a date night dinner at heritage ranch on the weekend. Just wanted to share the experience my parents had. The service was good, but the portion sizes were extremely underwhelming. Every plate was shareable. For $350 I would expect my parents to leave being full and not hungry on the way home.
Lyudmyla K — Google review
We had a great meal. The smoked brisket on the bun as well as the nachos was very delicious.
Tim B — Google review
I had the worst service, with a long wait (55 mins the be exact) and awful food. The burrata pizza (note it's cost more than $30 for this) had no burrata, and the breadboard featured flavorless and cold bread. The server paid no attention to the guests and served sharing plates with the dinner course. I've been coming here from Calgary for the past 5 years. This dinner marks the end of it. Never going back to this awful place. The only thing that's improved here is exorbitant prices. Goodbye, Heritage!
A R — Google review
The grandchildren love visiting the horses. We always bring carrots to feed them. The playground is lots of fun as well. We haven't yet tried the pony rides or the trail rides but I'm guessing they are great as well. The horses all seem so friendly!
Candy C — Google review
amazing food, amazing place and amazing service by all stuff. I want to mention the waiter, Barbara. she was amazing and so nice recommend this place to the fullest, and for full experience, check out the horse rides.
Zhora H — Google review
Cool working ranch that offers either horseback riding or carriage rides. You can walk around and see the horses and walk on some trails also. There is a playground 🛝 for the kids and benches and picnic tables. There is lots of parking available. There are also public washrooms available. Did not do anything with the horses 🐎 but we did eat at the restaurant that is part of the ranch. There is a cool tower that you can walk up and get a great high view of the ranch. My wife and I enjoyed our visit.
Kirk D — Google review
Lovely spot. It has a couple routes for options trails 2.2km or 2.6km. Check my photos for details. Have not been yet at restaurant, hopefully will come some days soon :) The horses experience was good, my son was super excited to pet them. 😀 1000000$ atmosphere!

Discovery Canyon is a seasonal water park situated next to the Red Deer River, open from June through September. It offers a natural river-fed water pool, playground area, concession stand, and washrooms. Visitors can bring their own tubes or rent them on-site for a fee of $5.00. The park provides an ideal setting for spending a hot summer day with bubbling pools of water and rivulets to cool off in.
This place was an absolute blast. Me and my wife decided to give it a shot with my best friend. We are absolutely planning on coming back together with our whole family. Current cost for whole day tube rentals is: $7 So cheap not worth buying your own and dealing with the hassle of blowing it up, keeping track of it and making sure no munchkins try and yoink it while your not looking. Support the park and just pay for the wristband. First off you get used to the water quick. Once your going you forget about it and don't worry. If your a bigger person sometimes your butt/tube rubs on the river bed, slows you down and is a little annoying but is fine for kids and thinner folks. 3 different sizes of tubes offered. Adults take yellow(Biggest). You will know your tube is too small if your almost flipping over occasionally. The line to get in could take 30seconds - 2mins but If your moving and rushing to get in you will be fine. There are staff at key points of this lazy river keeping things moving along. If your in a group you can hold onto eachother and go together. Staff is very professional and well behaved and help with anything and everything. Kids rush in at the top and get in early. Don't worry it's quick to move, don't get fussy or annoyed, everything will be fine. Adults have fun here take your time and enjoy. Great for younger kids. Secondly there are tons of day use benches and tables to set up a BBQ/lunch spot. Arriving early is a good idea. Looks like park opens at 11:00am. Be early to get a great spot. Gazebo recommended but lots of areas shaded, not mandatory. Great park, will be back with my whole family and wife's family. Love it! 5/5
Mikhael M — Google review
We’re enjoying this spot just a few hours from Edmonton, Canada. Entrance is free, you can bring your own tube and have fun, or rent one there. There are people making sure kids and adults stay safe. The water’s a bit cold, but super refreshing.
Katherine L — Google review
We went here as a family with three children. The location is ideal for spending an enjoyable day with children. Everyone has to buy a swimming float for $7, but it's fine if you already have one. The staff is extremely friendly and caring with children; every 1 meter, you will see one of the staff members in the lazy river assisting children or the flow. We only spent about 2 hours before the kids grew tired. I highly recommend this location.
Radwa M — Google review
Today, we went to Discovery Canyon and had so much fun. There were lots of people and many kids, and you could see the joy on their faces. My child and two of my nieces/nephews went tubing. The weather was a bit hot, but since there were many trees, you could stay comfortably in the area. It’s a perfect place for family gatherings and picnics.
Desiree P — Google review
Fantastic place to visit with kids. $7 charge for renting the tubes. Bit crowded on the weekend but lots of fun. Take tents, chairs, mats food ect to set up under a shady spot or the sun depending on what you like and make a fun day out of it. There is food for sale. The ice creams were a hit with the kids @ $4 single scoop or $7.5 for double. Changing rooms available after a fun day of tubing.
Arisha W — Google review
Fun place to take yourself and the family for the day. The day we went was extremely busy but the boys didn't mind and had a blast.. there is a sandy little beach area for people to play at and lots of grassy areas to sit and enjoy. Sitting on the side of the hill was tricky but we were able to move later. Lots of shade and picnic areas surrounding at a higher level. The tube rental wristband is only $7/ person and you can use their tubes. You can bring your own but be sure to check their website on size restrictions first. There is a concession stand with things to eat and drink and a public washroom nearby. Super clean and super fun place to go just on the outskirts of the city.
Shelly L — Google review
A great experience for the family. No need to bring your own tube for $7 a person the tubes are provided for all sizes. The line up can be a bit long when in the water as a staff has to put you through one by one near the middle, but other than that it is a great time. Pack your lunch, sand buckets and everything you would for a day at the beach.
Kristy Z — Google review
Perfect for little kids! A playground shallow water with rentable cubes for the 'river water slide'. Nice sand to play in and an icecream shack. But it was WAY too busy to make standing in line for the water slide worth it, too shallow to actually swim in, and the water is filthy with garbage. It feels more like a cesspool than a lake or river. But it's cheap, the water is cold, and it has flush toilets, outdoor showers, and a couple change rooms.

Beautiful area, good for biking and walking. Nice view of Red Deer river. Many attractions, great place to have a tea in the Tea House from previous century.
Halina B — Google review
Wonderful area to relax, dog walk, bike or picnic. Very tidy and accessible. The only issue was last time, in the parking lot, a guy was smoking crack in his car and it stunk up the whole area. NOT very cool!
Shelie M — Google review
Beautiful park that has it all. There is plenty of parking and easy access for all to the park. There are lots of walking trails and a large playground. There are public washrooms. There is central building that houses the washrooms along with a snack bar and lots of seating. The park itself is peaceful and has lots of outdoor amenities. Lots of benches and picnic tables. You can rent paddle boats to go out on the ponds. There are lots of interesting places and informative information boards to read and learn about nature. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and definitely recommend visiting.
Kirk D — Google review
It was a super warm day for October 2023. The walking trails are wonderful with all the beautiful autumn 🍂 colors. The water fountain was sparkling in the sunlight. There are also benches for sitting to enjoy all the views!
Vera L — Google review
It was a great experience. Not only beautiful we had the unexpected pleasure of watching the amazing modernized Merry Wives of Windsor performed by Prime Stock Theatre Bard on Bower. Only one complaint was that the ice cream stand didn't have dairy free ice desserts.
Christina M — Google review
I love this place. Quiet, serene. Paddle boats. Concerts. Ice cream and tea at the Cronquist house. Just good old fashioned family fun. Ohh and right now there's Shakespeare in the Park.
Nick M — Google review
A great place for exploring nature while you walk around the pond and get exercise. Good for the whole family, as there is always something to do or see . Best part is it's free. Except for the rental of the paddle boat's if you want to use them. But they do have a website that posts things that are going on to keep you up to date and if there is a cost or not.

I visited the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame today with my students on a field trip, and it was an incredible experience for all of us! The museum is interactive, engaging, and packed with inspiring stories of Alberta’s sports legends. The students especially loved the virtual sports games and hands-on exhibits—they had fun while learning about the rich sports history of the province. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, and great with the kids. It’s a perfect spot for school trips or family visits. Highly recommended if you're looking to spark motivation and team spirit in young minds!

Great Hall of Fame. Lots of great displays and interactive exhibits. My wife and I thought it might have been boring but that was far from what we experienced. The price of admission was well worth it. I have driven past the Hall of Fame for many years on the QE2 and finally took the time to visit. We enjoyed our visit and recommend coming if you can. I saw a lot of familiar sports faces in the inductee area that I recognized from past years.

The Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) is a modern museum that showcases local history and art exhibitions, along with ongoing events throughout the year. Visitors are encouraged to bring their families to explore what makes Red Deer amazing at MAG. The museum offers rotating local and national art and history exhibits, including collections of clothing and textiles, First Nations and Inuit art, military experiences of locals, as well as the history of Red Deer and Central Alberta.
It was a beautiful fall day, perfect for some site-seeing in the city of Red Deer! The Museum and the Art Gallery have wonderful displays. Admission is free.
Vera L — Google review
We had a really great time during our visit! the employee at the front desk welcomed us and (since it was our first time) gave us a really good rundown of what exhibits they had currently and how to navigate the building. Both exhibits were amazing and the history section was visually interesting as well. Lots to look at and plenty of interactive components that children (or adults haha) would really enjoy. Thanks again!
Haley D — Google review
So much to explore. From the moment you walk through the doors there is something to see and do. There are large fish to welcome you as soon as you enter the door. Admission is by donation. There are different galleries that change regularly and the Remarkable Red Deer stays relatively the same with small exhibits that rotate regularly. Currently the art gallery has some amazing exhibits. They hold camps, classes and lectures and are a welcoming environment for all.
Valdene C — Google review
Good place to learn history of the Red Deer area. Exhibits here are mainly for grownups but they also have couple of nice sections for children to play in and be entertained. They also have rotating exhibitions by local artists.

Admission is free or by donations. The museum has a really cute little town set up inside with two art galleries featuring local artists.
Justine B — Google review
This is a nice gallery museum situated at the heart of the city. It’s free when we visited on a Saturday morning. The lady receptionist was amazing and gave us a simple run down on what to see inside the gallery. The exhibit about the old Red Deer was well thought of and they put careful attention to details. I love that they have a couple of gallery rooms with toys and ‘drama-play’ activities for the toddlers. I also appreciate that they offer free sanitary products in the ladies washroom for their female guests. Their small cinema offers short movies about Red Deer, which is super informative.
Nomad_paul — Google review
We've had our kids go to a number of camps at the art gallery. They love them. Heart camp was a pretty fun idea. We also like going as a family from time to time to view the exhibits. It's a nice different thing to do.

Nestled in Red Deer, Alberta, the Sunnybrook Farm Museum is a delightful destination that transports visitors back to the early 19th century. This charming site showcases Alberta's agricultural heritage with its preserved log home and engaging costumed actors who bring history to life through demonstrations. Families can explore the rustic farmstead, interact with friendly animals, and even enjoy a scenic wagon ride while learning about pioneer farming practices.
Superb experience for kids to have a look at some farm animals, equipment, machinery and vehicles. It’s wonderful to even imagine how people in those times worked relentlessly with those tools and yet never complained, I guess, because we are always criticizing almost everything around us.

Lovely place , full of history of the early farmers life in red deer. Awesome staff working there and the burger was amazing.
Aws S — Google review
Beautiful place for kids. We saw so many tractors and other things used in farming. Few animals, small park inside , clean washrooms, no entry fee, picnic tables, parking spaces . There’s Marshall , dollar store and other in walking distance.
Bhumika B — Google review
Great museum featuring old time rural living and farming life. You can get up close to farm machinery and and even farm animals. There are lots of things to see and explore. There is lots of parking. And there are washroom facilities available. My wife and I came at the end of the season so it was quite and not a lot going on. That was okay as we enjoyed the sights with less people around. But for a better experience it is probably best when it is high season. It was still nice.
Kirk D — Google review
This place is adorable and my kids loved it. I found it by accident while looking for Bower Place and decided to let the kids have some fun and learn a thing or three. There were several farm animals to see and learn a bit about, and a huge assortment of vintage and antique farm equipment and buildings to explore. After we left my oldest daughter informed me she now wants to be a farmer which sounds like fun to me!

Three Mile Bend is a recreational park that allows off-leash dog walking, with ponds for canoeing and a freestyle ski-jump. The park is known for its dog-friendly atmosphere, so visitors may encounter many dogs along the trail. The area is surrounded by ponds where people can canoe and dogs can swim. Although wildlife sightings are rare due to the noise from dogs and people, skunks are known to inhabit the area.
One of the most beautiful off leash dog parks I have ever been to! Lots of trees and water and my dog was super happy playing in the river. There is also a lovely pet memorial area, benches along the paths, and you might be lucky enough to see the local moose!
Kerstin P — Google review
Wow what a beautiful place for a walk, our dog could be off leash. We love it there. Highly recommended. And lots of people floating down the river. Great place for sure.
Danielle E — Google review
My dog loves this park and we love how friendly everyone is. Well maintained trails and people are picking up the dog poop on the regular. Access to the river is cute, my old man (our dog) doesnt like water.
Bonnie L — Google review
We love taking the kids and dog here. We make stops along the way. Our boy likes to bring his RC cars and drive them along the river. Other people always seem friendly and nice. The paths are in good condition from what I've seen. Highly recommended
Tyler J — Google review
Fantastic place for walking dogs! It's a pity not everyone picks up their business though. Still, great views and amenities. The addition of new paved trails and the upkeep has really paid off, this really is an amazing place.
Rob W — Google review
I love this off-leash dog park. If you enjoy strolling along the river at 6am, it is safe, beautiful and you’ll most likely get lucky and see some sort of wildlife. From beavers to osprey to foxes and moose! But make sure your puppy’s well behaved or keep them on a leash! If you prefer the busy times, there’s lots of people down there on sunny days. Picnic benches and washrooms and all. And of course, lots of other doggy friends for your little one. I love this dog park because you can almost feel like you’ve left town and found a little oasis away from the busy city streets. Hope you enjoy!
Jenn L — Google review

I really enjoy taking my dog here. Other dog owners are friendly, has always been safe for my dog off leash and she loves the space available to run around to burn off energy. Great walking trails and scenery, and access to the river for a doggy drink and cool down.

Our family had such a wonderful time at this swimming pool — it’s clean, well-maintained, and truly designed with families in mind. The kids loved the shallow play area with fun water features, while the deeper lanes gave us a chance to enjoy a proper swim. There are plenty of lifeguards on duty, which made us feel safe and at ease, and the seating areas around the pool were comfortable for relaxing in between swims. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, making it an easy spot to spend the day together. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Wow this place was amazing!!!! The pool was awesome! Big wave pool, small kids play area with slides, two hot tubs, a lazy river with slide, and two killer watersides!!!! Drove from Edmonton to make a day trip out of it!!

I really enjoyed this place, if you are in red deer either living or staying for a couple months definitely swing by. I lived in red deer for 4 months and I used to play drop in hockey. Upstairs they had a 200m track which was nice to get some stretching before the game. Swimming pool too for after the game, awesome place and I'd definitely recommend!
Alex S — Google review
I bought a pass, enjoyed the informative staff, the gorgeous clean facilities, the pool, watched lacrosse and hockey, and used the gym equipment and the walking track. It was so wonderful to leave the cold weather and exercise and experience a positive community interaction
Angela ( — Google review
We are here all the time for sports and the centre can use some improvements. The front doors wheelchair access is always broken. Barely any doors have wheelchair access and the ones that do are usually broken. It makes it very challenging for a mom with young kids pushing a stroller, and carrying sports gear. I can imagine how challenging it is for people who are in wheelchairs or using a walker. There are so many doors without a wheelchair button to open doors automatically, like some of the front entrance and the arena doors. There are also no nursing rooms. This is a family place. It's time for the City of Red Deer to get caught up with the times. Make this place more accessible for families, mothers with strollers, wheelchairs etc. And nursing mothers.

Bakery
No road trip along Highway 2 is truly complete without a visit to The Donut Mill, a beloved bakery nestled in Gasoline Alley, Red Deer. Since its establishment in 1994, this local gem has been delighting travelers with an impressive array of fresh donuts. From classic flavors to unique creations like Chocolate Orange and orange creamsicle, there's something for every palate.
We stopped for donuts at about 2 pm. on Saturday on a drive from Calgary to Edmonton. The place was about half full with happy-looking diners. Service was fast and friendly. We got 6 donuts. They were great. They have a fantastic selection. We much recommend the Donut Mill.
Dave M — Google review
The Donut Mill is a must-stop for anyone traveling between Edmonton and Calgary. They have a great selection of donuts, and the staff are friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. My top three best-sellers are definitely worth trying: 1. Orange Creamsicle – A yeast-raised donut filled with a delightful orange and vanilla flavored whipped filling, topped with white fondant and garnished with orange sprinkles. 2. Apple Pie – Filled with a spiced apple pie filling and rolled in cinnamon sugar, offering a warm, comforting flavor. 3. Donut Mill Special – A fresh yeast-raised donut filled with vanilla whipped filling and topped with maple fondant, combining classic flavors in a delightful way. Tip: be prepared for long lines during peak hours and holidays, so it’s best to stop by a bit earlier or later to avoid the wait. Overall, a sweet treat that’s well worth passing by on your road trip.
Ian M — Google review
If you want a donut that is worth the drive, look no further than The Donut Mill. Every single donut is phenomenal—fresh, massive, and truly the best I've ever had. You can immediately tell the difference in quality compared to other places; they are never greasy and always have that perfect, satisfying density. I highly recommend the Coconut Donut and the classic Powdered Sugar. The coconut donut has a wonderfully toasted, chewy topping that adds great texture and flavor. Even the simple classics, like the glazed and chocolate-iced, are done to perfection. On my last visit, I used the drive-through service, and it was fantastic! Super quick, efficient, and the staff was as friendly as ever. This is more than just a quick breakfast stop; it's a destination for a truly excellent sweet treat. If you’re passing by, make sure you pull over—you won’t regret it!
Iliana P — Google review
Honestly the donuts are okay. Like it’s a good stop if you’re going between Edmonton and Calgary but I would never go out of my way for it. It is a good pick me up while going on that drive. The coffee was also extremely mediocre. This is the second time I try this and the donuts are just genuinely okay. I wouldn’t mind getting again but I’m not recommending anyone to go too far for it. 6.5/10 - if it’s on the way then get it if you’d like.
Rayan A — Google review
This place is really popular. It's crowded. The selection is impressive. And it's really delicious. Each donut is special, lots of filling. Spacious, clean. Attentive and smiling staff.

Smells like sugar the moment you step out of your vehicle and the donuts are amazing!! Love this place and the many options they have. They also have more than just donuts, however, I went for the donuts lol
Kreanne T — Google review
Every time we're on Highway 2, we make it a point to stop by Donut Mill - it's a tradition that never fails to lift our spirits. Their Apple Pie Donuts are a masterpiece, capturing the essence of a perfectly baked pie in every soft, fluffy, and spice-infused bite.

Donut Mill in Red Deer is a must-visit spot for anyone craving delicious homemade food and top-notch service. The establishment has always been impressively clean, creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Their menu features quality homemade meals made with great ingredients, ensuring a fresh and flavorful experience every time. The service is consistently fast and efficient, making it a great stop whether you're on a road trip or just in the area. Of course, the real highlight is their incredible homemade donuts—easily some of the best you’ll find anywhere! With a variety of flavors and that perfect balance of softness and sweetness, they’re an absolute treat. If you're in Red Deer, Donut Mill is definitely worth the stop!

City Hall Park is a charming public park and floral garden situated in the heart of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. It serves as the front yard of the Red Deer City Hall building and offers a serene setting for visitors to enjoy nature throughout the year. In summer, the park blooms with fresh flowers, while winter brings enchanting light displays. The park features benches and picnic tables for relaxation and al fresco dining.
Nice garden park in front of Red Deer city hall. Some benches and picnic tables to use to rest on or have a meal. The garden is well maintained and curated. It’s not a large area but what is here is very nice. If you are downtown you definitely want to come here.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful ice cream experience, look no further than Little Ice Cream & Soda Shoppe. This charming spot offers handmade hard ice cream crafted right on-site, with generous portions that will leave you satisfied. You can indulge in a single scoop featuring two flavors, which is more like double what you'd find elsewhere! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, complemented by friendly staff who are eager to serve.
Best hard ice cream in Red Deer!! (It should be a Red Deer landmark!) (They've always employed teenagers which is great to see) > Newcomers, it's an old school set up: If there is a line, once you're at the front, step up to an open spot at the glass around the ice cream and make eye contact with the servers. They will ask if you've been helped. (If it's busy, it can be a bit tricky to see all the ice cream flavours, so look at the menu on the outside of the building first). You collect your ice cream, then go to the till to pay🍦 💲They are CASH only
Jessalynn M — Google review
We visited Little Ice Cream & Soda Shoppe because the sign outside said “homemade ice cream,” and that caught our attention. The ice cream was tasty and there were lots of flavors to choose from, which we really liked. There are just a couple of things that could make the experience even better. My mom is diabetic and decided not to join us because she assumed there wouldn’t be any diabetic-friendly options. It would be great to have sugar-free or low-sugar ice cream available too. Also, adding some soft background music could make the space feel more cozy, especially since many people like to sit and enjoy their ice cream inside. Overall, we enjoyed the visit and appreciated the variety of flavors!
Ellie L — Google review
This was my second visit to this ice cream shop. I came back because I really enjoyed my first experience, but this time was disappointing. The ice cream was ok, but the waffle cone was soft and not crunchy. I mentioned it to the staff and asked if they could change it. I was told the cone was “freshly made” and that’s how it’s supposed to be—then told I’d have to pay for a new one if I wanted a replacement. That explanation didn’t make sense and came off as dismissive. A freshly made waffle cone should be crispy, not soft. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable—just a proper cone for my ice cream, which is quite expensive already. I even expressed that I was very disappointed with the response, but the staff didn’t apologize or make any effort to address my concern. That lack of basic courtesy made the experience worse. I left feeling let down. How staff handle feedback really matters—and in this case, it wasn’t handled well. I hope the owners take this feedback seriously. Many of us genuinely want to support local businesses and make an effort to spend our money—even on overpriced products—because we believe in community. But when you’re treated this way, what more can you do?
Heidy P — Google review
It’s been my favourite ice cream shop for 40+ years and still continues to. They always have the best flavours with lots of choices. I was so happy to hear that they finally brought in an ATM machine so that when people forget its cash only they are able to pull out cash without their ice cream being left behind. I love this place. Everybody should check it out and I will continue to support it always!
Brandie B — Google review
Absolutely absurd pricing. We got a sundae 2 very small scoops for 9 dollars. It's also cash only so if you want to spend the ATM fees plus the very overpriced icecream... enjoy that as well. Icecream isnt anything to rave about.
Lynn R — Google review
Delicous ice cream. Their waffle cones weren't my favorite as they seemed to have a stale texture, but I think it's because they make them themselves, so it's just different than the norm. Lots of ice cream flavors and all the kinds we ordered were really good.
Nicole E — Google review
Decent-sized helping on the cone, and they made a very good chocolate soda, but sooo expensive….it shouldn’t cost $20 for two people to visit an ice cream shop (and the cone didn’t compare in quality with MacKays in Cochrane, which remains the best in Alberta).
Russell B — Google review

Nestled along the picturesque Red Deer River, Fort Normandeau is a captivating living history site that transports visitors back to the days when Native Americans, English, and French traders converged for commerce. Established in 1884, this replica fort served as a vital crossing point before the advent of the Edmonton-to-Calgary railway in 1893. As you wander through its reconstructed walls, you'll encounter costumed interpreters who bring history to life with engaging stories and demonstrations.
A nice historical center with a great green space for a casual get together. Usually pretty quiet and peaceful, and they host a lot of small events. The staff here is exceptional.
Dave B — Google review
Small but enjoyable, the museum building has a nice little gallery and the Cabin recreation is quite nice. The view onto the red deer crossing is nice aswell. I wouldn't plan a day around this place but it is a good stop on any tour of the history of Red Deer
John C — Google review
Historical area. Worth a stop to visit and stretch. The information boards are falling apart and reading the history of the area is hard. It is a big piece of Canadian History in regards to the North-West Rebellion and later the site of a residential school setting. It's too bad the museum was closed.

Really gorgeous little place for birdwatching, there's often Merganser on the river and a variety of other birds. There's a nice little museum and would be nice for a weekend afternoon out. Nice natural scenery and good view of the river which gets super busy with rafters / canoers on weekends. Picnic tables with typical fire pits that one can use, although most people bring their own BBQ grills. However, there is no playground area for kids and the person giving the "interpretive" tour is a millenial SJW who provides biased "historical" information influenced by far left ideology

Beautiful place to visit. The 4 km walk is easy trail. The area is full of wildlife. Highly recommend visiting the park 😀 👌

Visiting from Edmonton, we stayed at Red Deer, and decided to check out Migratory Bird Sanctuary. Make sure to have an appropriate footwear and water when you step out on this trail. It is 4km long and all throughout the woods. Lots of stairs to climb, especially if you’re interested to go to the lookout. We didn’t see much of a wildlife except for some birds. I’ve heard woodpecker but he was not very close for pictures. Gift shop was well equipped. I will make a suggestion to the manager of the shop, to spend some time with the sales team, as they didn’t have much information and interest to find out about some merchandise that was in the shop. I could have bought more items, if they were better trained.

Absolutely 💯 fantastic nature area that is in the middle of Red Deer. The trail through the bird sanctuary is amazing. This is on the same property as the Kerry Wood Nature Centre so there are washrooms available. The trail around the sanctuary takes some effort and there is some steep terrain. There is a fantastic lookout on the trail. If you are visiting Red Deer or even live here, you need to take the time to come. My wife and I loved the Sanctuary.

Great walking experienced. There are uphills and downhills along the way. There are scenic spots that you can really enjoy the view. Some gravel and some are paved pathways. Lots of birds chirping around. Lots of trees shades. We saw some deer running around the bush. Highly recommended for walking.

Always a good choice, lots of wildlife and birds to see. The kids absolutely love it here. The harmony playground is great different structures can be used to make sounds, there's also a slide. Wishhart Trail is great but be prepared it's about 4 or 5 k long, I wouldn't suggest taking this trail with a stroller or anything but it could be doable if you have good wheels on your stroller. Plenty of boardwalks to check out. And lots of signs telling you about the plants, animals, insects, and history of the area. In summer definitely bring bug spray and water. Also in summer they do a goat run, where they heard goats down the trail, the kids love to watch them running. There's also an information center with a gift shop and bathrooms. They do lots of cool nature learning activities that you can sign up for.

I recently discovered the Red Deer Public Library after visiting a temporary library at Bower. It has been an incredible find for me, especially because it is free to access. The range of programs they offer is impressive and borrowing books or items is a breeze, whether online or in-person using the kiosk or front desk. Additionally, they even have a toy lending library available.
This place is amazing. The staff are genuinely excited about helping you locate book movies, audio material the staff are amazing at explaining the process to sign up for a card and were able to answer my questions quickly It's a nice place for our family....a bit of everything to do .

Great library . But the amount of homeless people sleeping in the library and talking is frustrating. I used to love coming here years ago to study . I will not be back. It’s not a homeless shelter , it’s a library .
Jen K — Google review
I was really disappointed with this library. It's very noisy many people talk loudly without consideration for others who are trying to read or study. The environment doesn't feel like a quiet place for learning. The top floor also had a very unpleasant smell, which made it impossible for us to stay there. We moved to the first floor, but even there, the noise continued. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations of what a library should be like.

Timberlands Branch provides poor customer service. Been in the branch a number of times and staff seem more interested in themselves. No interactions during my time in the branch. Like to stand behind the counter. Not a friendly place place to come to
David M — Google review
I attended the story time event at the public library yesterday with the expectation of a friendly celebration of community and inclusion. Instead, I was shocked and deeply saddened to witness material that openly mocked Jesus Christ and the Holy Eucharist. As a practicing Catholic, I found this profoundly disrespectful and hurtful—not only to myself, but to anyone who holds Christian beliefs sacred. Religious freedom and mutual respect are core values in any pluralistic society. While Pride events are meant to foster inclusion and understanding, using that platform to ridicule a major world religion undermines that goal. It sends the message that some communities are welcome only at the expense of others. I believe the LGBTQ+ community deserves support and dignity, but this event did not reflect those values. Instead, it fostered division and alienation. It is disheartening to see a publicly funded institution—meant to serve all residents—promote content that insults the faith of many in the community. I sincerely hope the library reflects on this misstep and commits to offering inclusive programming that uplifts rather than offends. Respect for diversity must include respect for religious beliefs.

Wonderful place! My family and friends had a great time at the park, especially the kids while doing the paddle boats (or use a row boat), where we stayed for a picnic. The place according to our friend is only half of the whole area, this one is the pond's side with a small stage where during this month until september has some mini shows. There's also a food shop where they serve soft ice cream and burgers near the pond. Adjacent to this is where the park office (I think) where you can rent for the boats (during winter they have ice skating shoes and snow shoes for rent). The only thing to remember like in any park, its usually the parking thats quite a problem, its not that crowded when we went there last weekend but it did take us 3 to 4 circles to find a spot to parked.

Nice park with paddle boats and a nice foundation. Lots of places to take nice pictures. Soccer and football and baseball fields.

Kin Kanyon is a beautiful park with towering trees, grassy areas for games, and picnic tables with fire pits for BBQ. It features trails, a creek, a small water park, play areas for kids, and shaded spots. The park also has cycling-friendly paths and connections to river pathways. Additionally, there are playgrounds and plenty of picnic tables throughout the area. It's an ideal place for walking, running or having a quiet picnic amidst nature.
I love Kin Kanyon Red Deer! It's such a beautiful spot to bring the family on a nice summer day! Check out my variety channel on youtube "Thej's Life" for a full video of a fun family day we spent at Kin Kanyon this spring! There are picnic tables, benches, public washrooms and tons of green space to have a kid's birthday party, lounge or play frisbee, play catch, whatever you want!

Amazing park where you can enjoy nature.

Perfect place for some peace and quiet. Awesome walking trails. You can have a picnic there. Kids have things to play on. They also have bathrooms!!
Joyce H — Google review
Really great place for a walk, equipped with firepits, and playgrounds. Generally pretty quiet, and a nice place to wander about to get lost from some of the other parts of the city. This goes for most of Red Deer's pathways. Just be aware they're generally not maintained heavily in winter, so be prepared to get a little wet.
Jamie S — Google review
Will have to take some proper pics to add to this post. I have been riding through the inner trails, the main bike paths as well as connections to the river pathways. Red Deer Rocks with the sheer amount of cycling friendly paths in a city. Lots to keep the kiddos occupied with play areas sprinkled throughout the park/kanyon and tonnes of picnic tables if you bring lunch or dinner.

Very nice walk.

A great place for a picnic and hikes. Good playground for the kids too.
JESSE C — Google review
I have to evaluate this as a CITY. So...city sounds, city smells, etc. We own property in the forest with real trails and nature, but it's not fair to make that comparison. It's well maintained, washroom and paved trails. If that's what you want, it's great.

The Oxbows Off Leash Dog Park, situated on a 16-hectare parcel of land at the intersection of 40 Avenue and 19 Street, is exclusively designated for dogs and their owners. The park's trails, diverse terrain, open training areas, amphitheater and agility park are all designed to complement the wandering nature surrounding Piper Creek.
Awesome off-leash dog park, outer lap is over the hill and allows for less distractions, inner lap is up the hill and has amazing view 360 degrees. Fenced good size area inside the park if your dog needs a bit more private space. Lots of poop bags if you forgot yours.

My dog enjoys this place and it has various trails looping around the park for short or longer walks.
Elizaba M — Google review
It’s from far the best dog park I’ve ever been, and I saw a lot around Canada. It’s big, lot of space and nice paths all around to walk. There are always a lot of dogs and I found they were all well behaved. My dog will miss this place
Marine G — Google review
Beautiful massive dog park. Fenced in. A couple picnic tables and even an agility course! Only six minutes off the highway, we stopped on our road trip. Would definitely come back here. Four stars because there’s no shade - very hot in the summer. Bring water!
Brenna M — Google review
A sign explained this dog park is built on a reclaimed landfill. They have made really good use of the space available! Lots of paths to follow. There are picnic tables, and benches scattered throughout the park. There are areas for dogs to dig, a well curated agility park, and a small enclosed area dog for training. As an added surprise, there are beautiful painted rocks throughout the park to find and enjoy.

By far the nicest dog park that I've visited. Nice job Red Deer! What makes this a great place to take the pups? -It's completely fenced in. -its large, I would guess at least 50 acres but I'm no land mathematician. -The entry is well marked. -There is a toilet for humans. -It's clean. -There is a gravel pathway for humans surrounding the entire place. -The whole place is essentially the crest of a hill so it drains very well. I visited one day after a storm and there were only 2 small puddles to speak of. (My lab found both 😅). -There is a large segregated area in case you require that for your pup. Large enough to easily throw a chuck-it. -There are several tables benches and naturalized features for humans and dogs. -There's also a small dedicated agility area which is clean and well maintained. -There are several garbage cans throughout the park, which are actually emptied ,clearly the maintenance to this area is being done diligently which is very nice to see! Whoever is responsible for creating and maintaining this place should definitely be proud, highly recommend.
Keith — Google review
Great place. Would be nice if they moved the picnic tables away from the fence as it gets congested with dogs to get in the gate. More people need to pick up after their dogs as there is quite a bit of dog poop around the trails.
Florence S — Google review
Good place to go with your dog. Large area, fully fenced, gravel paths for people. Cons: Gravel roadway to dog park, small parking lot.

Quite a few benches to have a bbq and a picnic, with aan average sized playground. Plenty of trees providing shade on hot days. The trails adjoining the picnic area are not that well maintained, specially the one that goes up to the top of the hill. But the view from the top looking towards Tim Hortons and the hospital is quite pleasant
JAWS — Google review
Nice park, close to the downtown so it has a mix of weird sketchy people. However, if you want a shady place to have a picnic, this location is lovely!
S B — Google review
Absolutely loved it. Lots of shade to escape the heat, plenty of firepits and picnic tables for people to enjoy.. Playground not to far from the picnic area. Beautiful park, reminds me of back home on the west coast with all the trees. Lots of garbage cans nearby so you dont have to go wandering off looking for a place to throw your garbage. Washrooms with flushing toilets and running water to wash your hands! Will definitely visit again!
Katherine P — Google review
Great park, quasi outdoor style washrooms that do appear to be locked at night etc. Great playground for kids, walking paths and picnic area. Dogs are NOT allowed in the picnic or play area, unsure why this will not update on Google, but I’ve included the photo on this review. There is an adjacent path where can go
Steve — Google review
The park is good, but there are lots of street people in the area, and because of this I won't use the covered area, the bathrooms or the on-site grills.
Amanda B — Google review
They all say it is haunted... If it is, the spirits there welcome me completely. It is a safe environment for a ninja like me. That being said, it is a bit lonely sometimes, due to my friends thinking it is dangerous. Bad people cannot enter the forest at night there. It is perfect! (My squirrel army lives there as well). So i suppose my opinion is a bit biased lol 😆
Corey C — Google review
Been here a few times... Nice park. Safe for kids under 10. Really cool little walking trails too and a nice little stair climb lookout point too
