The Kern County Museum is a captivating destination chronicling the rich history of Kern County through an array of artifacts and exhibits. Spanning 16 acres with 56 historical buildings, it offers a fascinating journey through Native American, frontier, and oil history.
The Kern County Museum is one of my absolute favorite spots to visit! It’s the perfect place to explore with family, offering a great mix of history, culture, and fun exhibits. The museum is beautifully laid out, with engaging displays that tell the story of the area’s history in such an interesting way. My favorite part of the museum is the neon courtyard. The historic signage from around town is simply beautiful, and it’s a unique and colorful way to experience a piece of the area's past. What I really love about the Kern County Museum is the variety of events they host throughout the year. Whether it’s a seasonal celebration or a special exhibit, there’s always something exciting going on that brings the community together. If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend checking it out! It’s an enriching experience for both kids and adults alike.

This destination is an absolute hidden gem! I was blown away by the quality of the many exhibits that were on display. I would go as far as to say that the Kern County Museum is the best museum of this kind. Their recreations California history make you feel as if you have walked into a Time Machine. I was very surprised at how many reconstructions they had, as it took us almost 5 hours to see everything. We could have stayed longer too! If you are driving through the area on your way to the metropolitan centers to the north and to the south, I would HIGHLY recommend stopping by.
Jacob M — Google review
Great place though weathered. It’s huge with tons of old buildings to peer through the windows at and read small pieces of info. Not ADA compliant and lots of rough walking so don’t bring anyone not ready for a good hike in the sun with no rest spots. The “store” is behind the cashier at the entrance but you can’t go in. She has some water bottles but not guaranteed. Ask her to bring anything of interest to the window for viewing. Overheard one teen ask his parents, “Are we done? Can we go yet?” But they even have a train there! And so much more of historical relevance re how things worked. There’s an exhibit in an old dance hall that, if it’s open, shows the costumes of the singers and their instruments that entertained in the olden days. Anyway, I enjoyed it thoroughly and the lady collecting the money was pleasant though not knowledgeable about the history. There’s also a huge clock tower.

I came to experience the Bakersfield vibe, and the Kern County Museum delivered that and more. The Haggard house was well arranged. It was almost like being a neighbor. The whole experience was great, but the Bakersfield Sound building was like Hard Rock Cafe or R&R Hall of Fame, but pure country... loved it!

My in-laws were the 1st people married at the Church 59 years ago at the towns Centennial celebration for all to view! Brought our kids today to check it out. There were not any docent around at all. Beautiful grounds.

This was our second visit to this amazing museum and we will be going back!!! My son took me here for Mother's Day and I got in free he only cost $10. There is so much too see we had to come back. This time an older man was giving tours of old vehicles, wagons etc. He was so friendly and knowledgeable we enjoyed learning so much about the history of transportation. This is a great place to visit before it gets too hot. Everything is pretty much outside so we're good walking shoes and take water. There were two exhibits that are still not open and we hope to catch next time.
K M — Google review
A mostly outdoor museum with many historic structures. Their auto collection is quite nice and displayed very well. Just outside of the auto hall is a great display of local old neon signs. Overall, it was a great experience.

We went here for the safe trick or treating and the whole family loved it! It was the closest to trick or treating from when I was a kid. Super cute decorations, dance floor, bounce houses, food vendors, a movie, and more. We'll be going here every year from here on out.

The Buena Vista Museum of Natural History & Science is a charming science museum that offers hands-on exhibits and artifacts focused on earth sciences such as geology, archaeology, and paleontology. The museum provides discounts for EBT snap users and participates in Museums for All program. The staff is friendly and the displays are well-maintained with a great selection of taxidermy animals, replicas of animals, information about sharks, native people, local dinosaurs among other things.
This is a clean and well thought museum. My 9 year old really enjoyed all the levels and the interactive lessons. I will be bringing my nieces and other family members here to enjoy it soon.

There aren't many kid-friendly activities in Bakersfield, but this was one of the places my child really enjoyed. It's a spot where you can get a small taste of various topics like the history of Bakersfield, dinosaurs, and different types of rocks.

This museum is so much fun and only $10 a person. There are 3 levels the main level and the 3rd floor are super cool the bottom is the kids area. There is a wind machine for $3 you can step in and feel what 78 miles an hour wind feels like. Lol super fun!! My son took me for Mother's day and I got in for free. The employee June at the front was so friendly and helpful. Must visit if you're near Kern County we visited from Fresno county.

We had lots of fun here , looks small but the museum is 3 stories with an elevator. My kids ages 2-8 had a lot of fun , tons of activities for the kids as well as science projects on certain days. Staff is very friendly , knowledgeable and awesome!

Great museum. Cozy, old school displays, not crowded, great way to learn about natural history, especially the local chapters of it. Our 10 years old loved it, and so did we. She is really into rocks and fossils, and there was plenty of both on display, as well as in the little gift shop area. Great to visit before going for a dig on the sharkooth hill.

Camelot Park in Bakersfield is a delightful family-friendly amusement park that promises fun for visitors of all ages. This Medieval-themed wonderland offers an array of attractions, including bumper boats, miniature golf, and playgrounds, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy. With over 30 rides ranging from thrilling roller coasters to gentle kiddie rides, families can easily spend an entire day filled with laughter and excitement.
I loved this place...for $20 my children could play unlimited for more than 4 wheels, and the little golf is free! I recommend it and its staff is very friendly and ready to help! I will definitely come back!
NATYP — Google review
Came here for daughters b-day. Pizza was NOT worth $38. Should have just brought my own in like I saw others do. But hey, they gotta make money too. Anyways, was packed the whole time we were here. Glad to see some type of normalcy. People were NOT keeping 6 ft away and I'm OK with that. Some of the games were busted and/or shut down. They rationed the batting cages down to where only 2 people can go at a time. The golf course needs some major updating. Much of the astroturf is in need of replacement and the signs are just as bad. If all the bumper boats would have all been working, it wouldn't feel like we are waiting for a ride at Disneyland. Literally an hour wait. There was also a large amount of trash all over the place. I'm not sure if they were short staffed, but get someone out there with a broom and dustpan picking up this garbage. But my daughter had fun with her friends and that's what's important, isn't it?
Tommy T — Google review
Not well maintained! Mosquito central. Lots of standing water. Exposed electrical. Entire miniature golf area needs rebuilt! Restrooms trashed half of the games not working. Go carts nice. Food mediocre at best. Employees more worried about fixing WiFi then customer service!
Lori W — Google review
My sons, fiance, and myself personally had a blast. We bought the all day bracelets with the coin uprade and we spent well over 6 hours here that day. They have bumper boats, go-kart for adults and children, batting cages and a moderately extensive gameroom. We went back and forth between the go-kart and bumper boats and even as an adult I wasn't bored all day. They seemed to be a little low on staff but if you asked one of the employees for help the were immediately able to help and super nice. We loved it, and along with becoming an advocate of the place we will be returning probably for the boys birthdays.
Jordan S — Google review
Okay for the price. Some of the games didnt work or took our tokens. The go karts are the best. Definitely worth the wrist band. Inside could use some love. But the do have this cool wrist band for the games. Now if the games worked..
Karrie R — Google review
Had an amazing time here. There are lots of games and lots of prizes. Staff was helpful and I got my tokens right away. If you’re looking for something to do with your family or young kids this looks like a great idea. Would go back here again
Eli H — Google review
Family fun safe inexpensive food was ok for kids get there early ride the gocarts back to back no line longest wait was maybe 10 min later in the day boats were fun you will get wet batting cages wide open tons of arcade games will return!!!

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
California Living Museum (CALM) is a unique institution that serves as a sanctuary for local wildlife, offering visitors the chance to observe native animals thriving in naturalistic habitats. It provides an opportunity for learning about conservation efforts and environmental education programs aimed at preserving California's biodiversity. CALM features native California animals and plants, historical artifacts, and fossils on display. Families can enjoy leisurely picnics while exploring the exhibits and collections.
This Living Museum is very similar to the Living Desert in Palm Springs. We love the open atmosphere. Parking is very well defined and there is alot of it. They have been expanding and moving the animals in better, improved enclosures. Many have their own box fans, water ponds, shade, wind breaks. They have a children's area for parties. There is a permanent scale train. They also have Christmas events. A reptile building. The tortoise exhibit is the best I've seen. The cougars and the bobcats were comfortable and easy to see.
Darryl D — Google review
Cute place with some extravagant plans for the future! It’s like a zoo in the Forest. It was quiet, not very many people and you could sit and listen to the water run, pretty relaxing. It was nice to see native animals.
Jamie B — Google review
Wished we’d visited sooner and will definitely be back. A nice selection of native California birds, animals and reptiles. The marine room on your way out is a great little find…sea jellies, a touch pool and seahorse. The map and paths were a bit confusing to navigate and we found ourselves doubling back a few times to find the right path we wanted, but will be back and be telling our friends to visit too!
Alex M — Google review
Great place to visit and learn about many species of animals. Very good reptile exhibits. And Monday was seniors day, half off!
Rick B — Google review
CALM is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon! They have special events all year and the holiday lights are one of the best.
Vi A — Google review
We love CALM! Seeing all the animals is always fun, you can tell they’re really well cared for. It’s a great half-day experience, we usually spend around 3 hours here. The lights at Christmas are a whole other incredible experience too! If you’re local, I recommend getting the membership pass that gets you into this, kern county museum, and buena vista museum. It’s so worth it!
Christina R — Google review
The Holiday Lights at CALM is a magical outdoor walking experience that's perfect for the whole family! With beautifully lit displays, festive decorations, and a peaceful atmosphere, it truly gets you into the holiday spirit. A wonderful way to enjoy the season while strolling through a winter wonderland. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!
Jaqs C — Google review
CALM is a really cool spot and great for the family to get out and learn about nature and some beautiful creatures roaming the lands and water. My wife and I stopped in on Sunday afternoon, and there wasn't any wait time. You get a map and go at your own pace. I liked seeing the California Condor and how big they are and the 9ft wing span. The mountain lions were another highlight to see how big these cats are up close and personal. I knocked a star because there were a decent amount of exhibits closed, and the grounds looked like they could use a little attention.

The park provides a safe and enjoyable environment for both kids and adults, with attentive staff members ensuring everyone has a great time. Our kids had a blast today at Flight! We brought our son to meet his Best friend for the first time that he's been playing Fortnite with for the past few years. They are 6. They had a blast. Ozzie was a great help in letting us know how things worked and where to get food near by. Thank you for your help!

Had a great experience. Our host Johnny was very attentive with a positive attitude. Very helpful. And patient. Will definitely book again and return for future events.

Came for Flight Kids time for my little ones and Aaliyah was so nice and helpful. She interacts with the little ones so well! Coming during this time frame is so worth it if you have little ones because you don’t have to worry about getting trampled over by bigger kids. :)
Leanna G — Google review
Juan was our party host and he was great!! We booked a last minute party and Flight was able to accommodate with no issues. Grandson and friends having a blast!!! Thank you flight of Bakersfield
Kristie H — Google review
I wasn’t able to leave this review while we were at the park, but I truly hope Flight sees this and recognizes the amazing employee they have named Lucian. I work for a group home and we brought our kiddos out for a fun day at Just No. One of our kids is deaf and often feels left out due to the language barrier. That changed when Lucian approached him with genuine care and patience. He spent quality time talking with our kiddo in Sign language, making sure he felt seen and heard. Lucian even helped resolve an issue our kiddo was having all because he took the time to really connect with him. The conversation they shared meant so much. Our entire group enjoyed Lucian’s presence so much that they asked to take a photo with him before we left. We’ll absolutely be returning and our kiddo is already asking to see Lucian again. Thank you, Lucian, for your kindness, understanding, and the impact you made today. You’re truly appreciated.
Joseph L — Google review
Every trip to flight has been amazing! The staff have been excellent, but Sophia has been super awesome! Immediately making sure the kids are safe and following the rules makes me secure in my child’s safety. Thanks Sophia!
Melinda M — Google review
Overdue review of this wonderful establishment!! I was recently there at the end of September to celebrate my brother’s birthday and it was phenomenal, it was also the first time taking my child. Very very very accommodating to littles as well as kids and adults who have special needs! Lots of employees around if you ever need help or a watchful eye on your little one(s). Maya and William were extremely helpful and perfectly chatty. They gave me tons of information when I needed it and info that I didn’t even know about! Definitely recommend this place for everyone, a brilliant place to enjoy your children having fun or you yourself or catching some much needed exercise cause I know I do!!
A — Google review
We drove in from 2 hours away to visit family, and it was well worth the trip. We have something similar back home in Ventura, but the customer service here—especially from JJ—was absolutely spectacular. JJ made me feel so comfortable, the kids were happy and entertained, and the attentiveness really stood out. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends, especially for parties and events.

We took our staff out for some employee bonding and were treated to such a great time with Rivers End Rafting. Our guides were knowledgeable and fun and my entire staff had a blast! What a fun, exciting, and enlightening experience out on the Kern River with River's End Rafting. ☺️ The staff was very professional, polite, and pleasant to work with. Checking in and storing our valuables was a seamless process. I especially appreciated how focused our guides were on making sure we had a good but SAFE time out on the river. Going during the end of their season ensured the rapids would not be too intense 😬 😅 and I for one greatly appreciated that as it was my first time being out on the river like that. There were parts of the river that were exhilarating and there were parts that were very peaceful and serene. 😌 Our guide Justin was amazing 🙌🏾 In spite of his corny jokes 😆 the nerd 🤓 in me really appreciated his knowledge of the river and it's inhabitants (plant and animal alike) He was putting in work to ensure everyone was safe, sound, but having fun simultaneously. I would 100% recommend this company to anyone looking to try white water rafting for the first time. I personally would love to come back next year and do this again. 🤗 Thank you so much RER for a WONDERFUL time. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

The Bakersfield Museum of Art (BMoA) is a long-standing institution that showcases the artistic heritage of California, particularly highlighting the works of local artists. Established in 1956, this museum offers a diverse range of exhibits and educational programs for both adults and children. The outdoor Tejon Sculpture Garden adds an extra dimension to the museum experience with its captivating sculptures. A cultural gem! The Bakersfield Museum of Art is truly a treasure in our community! I love how they showcase such a unique and diverse collection of artists, offering something fresh and inspiring for every visitor. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just looking to explore something new, there’s always something captivating on display. One of my favorite parts of the museum is their annual events, which always bring the community together in a meaningful way. The Art After Dark Pride event is a standout, and I look forward to it every year. It's such a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and inclusion – the energy is always so positive and welcoming! The museum’s commitment to fostering creativity and connection within the community is truly special. The KHSD Visual Art Showcase is amazing every year. I'm so happy BMOA hosts this event for our incredibly talented high school artists. Please do yourself a favor and go to one of their events, take a class, or check out the current exhibits.

Beautiful pumpkin patch! 🎃🌻🍁🐐 They have many fun activities and different animals to see. The farm 🚜 is very well taken care of with stunning views. Inside the store, they have so many options, gifts, jelly, nuts, fruits, candy, and even hot food. We had an amazing day here with great weather.

Very fun place! I want to call it a hidden gem, but it’s not hidden at all, it’s right there off of Hway 58. Such a cool shop, big, and so many possible activities! Probably the best random restroom stop we’ve ever made! All the staff were hardworking, cheerful, friendly. Highly recommend.

A large, fun themed farm park for the family. They have a grocery store like many other similar farms, but once purchase the tickets to the back, it is huge!! Pay extra to pick 🍓 🫐 🍇 blackberries, and so on. There is a huge jumper, tall slide, volleyball area, basketball 🏀, and so on. Took the tractor 🚜 ride (included in the basic general admissions as well) around the farm, very beautiful day so definitely enjoyed it. Would visit again.

oh my God oh my god oh my God. Most wonderful fresh fruits I've ever eaten. The figs were beyond amazing. I've never had figs so sweet and perfect and beautiful inside in my life. I was told they were "experimental green figs" and grown just on the other side of the parking lot - truly "local"! We ended up going back in and get a second container of the figs they were so good. We also got some peach/plum/apricot combo fruit (sorry, don't remember what they were actually called) and they were very sweet and amazing. We also got two Okie pies, Salsa Verde which was, according to my brother "one of the most delicious things he's ever eaten" and the blueberry pulled pork. Both excellent! Absolutely a cool place to go through and get some really good food.

Amazing fresh fruit, fresh pies, meat pies, jams, honeys, dried fruits, nuts and every other produce you can imagine. Wish we had time to pick our fruit. Absolutely loved it and wish we could've stopped on the home.

A cool little find just off Highway 58! It’s a charming farm that offers homemade treats like pie, fudge, cookies, and more. For a small fee, you can visit the petting area with various animals, including goats with a fun obstacle course – super cute! We tried the cherry pie, and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this spot for a quick snack break and some kid-friendly entertainment.

For years I've traveled back and forward from Arizona to California never stopped at this fine establishment. These are some of the finest people I've ever met. Pictures are a thousand words and it's a must to go see them. If you remember the old Knox berry farm back in the 60's this is a must stop for you and the family. I guarantee that you will enjoy them and there farm products like we are and will be going back again. They love Dogs to. Don't miss out!!

Buck Owens' Crystal Palace is a renowned live country music venue and restaurant located in Bakersfield, California. Named after the iconic country musician, Buck Owens, this establishment offers a vibrant atmosphere where visitors can enjoy live performances by both established and up-and-coming artists throughout the year. The venue also houses a museum showcasing Buck's own music memorabilia and pays homage to Kern County's influence on western music.
Been to Crystal Palace for a concert and previous event but never for New Years until now. It was worth all the hype and more!! Prime rib dinner was amazing, the servers who worked instead of party, were great!! The entertainment, while not huge names, got it going on they had the place on their feet! We had a blast, so much fun!! Highly recommend it whether for New Year's or a concert, or just for a night out, Go!!! You Won't be disappointed!! Especially if it sells, we don't know how much longer we'll have this Bakersfield staple around! Hopefully whoever buys it, will keep Buck Owens dream going, it would be a real shame to see it go!

Okay. This was a fantastic venue! This place has all the elements of greatness for sure! Buck Ownens was a great singer, and he left behind a great restaurant. This place is a stop off for all up and coming country singers. This is also the Place that Garth proposed to Trisha... [Garth alert]. Food was above and beyond expectations! They served the best baby back ribs of any I have ever had! Service was good, and the waitress was nice. Can't wait for a next time!

My husband initially mentioned Buck Owens Crystal Palace while we were dating, stating his intention to bring me to this location. We are now celebrating our wedding anniversary here. Although the food and music are superior, the service from “Sierra” was deficient and disappointing! We experienced a prolonged delay in receiving our beverages and an additional wait for her to take our order; it is worth noting that the next table received service first, despite our prior arrival. Sierra made an error with my order, neglected to place my husband's order, and exhibited an unfavorable demeanor when presenting the bill. We would have preferred a different server, our night would have been perfect!

☀️ Buck Owens' Crystal Palace Made it back to Bakersfield! The Crystal Palace is for sale, hopefully it will remain open, but there is a chance it will be closed for good soon. The idea for the Buck Owens Crystal Palace originated in the mid-1980s. Buck spent most of his early career performing in small, smoke-filled bars and honky-tonks around the country. He wanted a high-class place for country-western music to be performed. Buck also wanted a place where he could "be himself". There is a museum with numerous memorabilia throughout his career. Live music and great food. And of course the buck-mobile hanging behind the bar. Once made for Elvis, Buck used it in The Streets of Bakersfield video.

A club atmosphere with dining and seating on many different levels to view the stage for many different music venues. Nice atmosphere and facilities and the dining area is clean and offers great service. The parking is protected by security guards on electric bikes who will follow you to your car, unless a show has emptied the building and everyone is leaving. The venue offers a gift shop and a museum of country music (Buck Owens of Hee Haw fame) the only negative would be the acoustics in the very back areas where the surrounding walls prevented clear music sounds reaching out ears properly 😔... Fortunately, a table was cleared and I was able to moved up to hear past the offending wall enclosure. 👍

Enjoyed this venue very much. If you're a country music fan this place is for you! So much memorabilia all over the place. Great picture opportunities. There is not a bad seat in the house. The environment and crowd was great. Brought my teenagers to see Charlie Crockett and we all had a great time. Tickets are affordable. We did not eat as kitchen closed at 10. I would see a show here again!!

Amazing place to dine at. First time me and my wife came here and it was definitely worth it. We got to see the famous Bakersfield sign, and also loved the museum part of the restaurant. The food was heavenly, i had a chicken fried steak sandwich, which was huge, and fries. Wife got a chicken fried steak meal, with baked potato, and loved it. Started off with some onion rings, which were divine. Ended the meal with chocolate cake, and oh boy, im glad i saved room for it. This place was really amazing, live music, cool bar has a Cadillac behind it, museum to wonder around and check out, made for a fun night. Definitely will be back here again soon.

The Mechanics Bank Arena, Theater and Convention Center in Bakersfield offers a wide range of entertainment options, from boxing matches to comedy shows featuring big names such as Jerry Seinfeld. The center has helped put Bakersfield on the map by attracting popular acts to the city. It's a great place for concerts and sporting events alike. Visitors should familiarize themselves with the venue layout ahead of time, as many exciting events occur here year after year.
The mechanics arena is a nice big place that they hold events. From the Bakersfield Condors hockey, to stand up comedian shows, basketball games and shows Karma as well as collectible con events, which is what I had what time did this Sunday. This is a nice big well-maintained arena, with all the fixings. It has its food shops as well as its vendors for clothing or apparel merchandise of any event. So make your way down here whether it's to see someone soon or a sporting event. Here's some pictures from the collector con. Enjoy. Shout out to Nick Avalos and the rest of the Avalos family for throwing this collector Con in Bakersfield.

It was great stadium layout. Not too big that you would get lost In, but just big enough that you need to keep track of where you're at. Plenty of bathrooms everywhere, lots of food options, not so many options on beer, just light piss beer Line wasn't bad getting in since knew weezy and juvenile would be late Sound was off in section 109 Good seats everywhere Definitely would get different seats next time

Didn't expect to go to this venue but didn't read the preseason details correctly that the LA Kings preseason game against the Anaheim Ducks was being played here. Pleasant venue. Nothing outstanding but equally nothing that was a negative. Managed to find some free parking based on others descriptions of where to park. Can't imagine I'll ever be back in this part of the world, but if I was then this was a friendly arena to watch a game.

Amazing show! I'd never been to Bakersfield before [except in shackles on the prison bus], and I didn't expect such a cool city. The venue was great, the lines moved fast, and the overpriced drinks were no more overpriced than they are everywhere else. And the staff and security were cool. If it wasn't 3+ hours away from me, I'd definitely go back and see a show here again. 🍻

Wish the seats were not so close from behind you feel every kick and bump and brush by from others walking behind. But nice first time visit

We attended the Cody Jinks concert a couple of weeks ago and loved it. The venue is smaller and more intimate than I was expecting, which made for an even better show. The sound was great and we were walking distance to our hotel. The drinks are priced as you would expect and the bartenders are super cool. Made for a great night all around.

Nature & Parks
Hart Memorial Park, located in the northeastern corner of Bakersfield, is a picturesque 370-acre expanse with two lakes and three canals along the Kern River. This oldest section of the Kern River Country Park offers various recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, hiking, and equestrian trails. The park features lawns, sports fields, picnic areas with BBQ facilities, a bandstand, regular and disk golf courses. It's an ideal spot for outdoor recreation without any entrance fee.
This is a wonderful park to bring your family to. It’s a large park with lots of areas to have family gatherings, and kids to play. It is very well maintained with green grass, and large ponds for fishing. It has several playgrounds, with clean up to date equipment. You will see abundance of ducks and peacocks. Bathrooms are clean in well maintained..
Pam H — Google review
Hart Park is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy some time outdoors year-round. Whether you're out for a relaxing day or an active adventure, this park has something for everyone. My favorite time to visit is during the fall, when the trees are absolutely stunning, providing a perfect backdrop for any activity. There’s so much to do here — you can take a leisurely walk with your dog, have a family BBQ, or even float in the river on a warm day. The park also offers fishing spots, frisbee golf, hiking trails, and biking paths. For those who just want to enjoy nature, interacting with the ducks or relaxing by the water adds a peaceful touch. No matter what you’re in the mood for, Hart Park has it all! The only downside is the overwhelming cat population, which the city has yet to address. It would be great if they took steps to manage this issue, as it detracts from the overall experience.

I love going there for the fishing and quiet, had a few good bites the only thing I've been catching are turtles 🐢 i send them back in the water tho. I recommend going out there before school starts, get some Fresh air feed the ducks and geese. There are areas to BBQ

Excellent park. Plenty of space and access to trails. Nice lake and some amazing trees. I’d come here again
Travis A — Google review
Hart Park is my favorite retreat, my home away from home. It is only minutes - yet a world away - from town. There is a lake in the middle, with an island, and the river runs past the park. There are so many birds, both water birds, including ducks, geese, herons, egrets, cormorants and coots, and non-water birds, including peacocks, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, a flock of parakeets, and a host of others that I don't know the names of. There is a guy circling the island on a paddle board this morning. Once I saw a beaver, I think - all I could see was its eyes and brown forehead above the water as it swam by in the early morning. That was one sighting in 40-plus years of coming out here. There are tree squirrels, ground squirrels, raccoons, skunks - which you might be surprised to see, as I was, emerging from holes in the ground, and cats. Lots of cats, which are fed daily by the Cat People. Once I saw a coyote, which was tailing me and my very large dog until I pointed my walking stick at it and told it to leave us. The only unnatural sounds that mar the peace out here are occasional cars that drive through, especially on weekends, with their music blasting, and gunshots from the shooting range. Why they have a shooting range in a park I don't know, but I hate it. My current dog won't even get out of the car, stays hunkered down on the floor because that sound scares her so badly, so I don't bring her out here anymore. It can get really busy on holidays and weekends, so I don't usually come out here then, but early weekday mornings are the best, the closer to sunrise the better. It is so beautiful and peaceful.
Anna M — Google review
Nice large park on the Kern River. Be very careful about going in the river! Lots of trees in the water and a strong current can trap swimmers and down them. Wear a lifejacket and be aware of hazards down stream. Or, stay out of the water and enjoy picnic areas, playgrounds, grass and ponds available at the park.
Thomas C — Google review
Hi I have floated a section of the river on a river tube when it's hot, the cool water feels refreshing. Wear a lifejacket over 308 lives have been lost in the Kern River unfortunately it's been out of towners. Hiking is absolutely invigorating. There's many trails leading up to the hilltops. In summer season there's an increase in Rattle snake encounters. Please don't panic or scream if you see one. Please they're way more scared of us. Just step back and give them a big round about and carry on with the hike. With Gratitude GS😎

Bowlero Bakersfield is a well-established bowling alley with a casual dining experience, perfect for hosting leagues and parties. The venue offers an interactive entertainment concept with glow-in-the-dark lanes and old-school games. The 36 stunning bowling lanes feature black lights, comfortable lounge seats, and large HD video walls playing various content. Visitors can enjoy delicious desserts like the popular monster cookie while sipping on drinks from the bar.
Visited from Long Beach while spending time with family in Bakersfield. My brother invited us out for a bowling night, and we ended up at this alley. At first glance, I was skeptical. From the freeway, the place doesn’t look like much. The outside is a little dated, even with a fresh coat of paint. But once we stepped inside, I was pleasantly surprised. The space is clean, the lighting is great, the atmosphere is fun, and there’s even an arcade for the kids. The real standout was the service. The staff checked in on us several times, made us feel welcome, and treated us like VIPs. They were attentive and friendly from start to finish. I was so impressed that I asked to speak with the manager just to compliment the team. Coming from Long Beach, I really appreciated the great experience. This place is a gem once you’re through the doors.

I got here 2 hours before closing time. I wanted to order some food while we bowled. We were told they were no longer serving food. After I was told that this establishment was no longer serving food, I saw a party of 5 people that arrived after my party get served food. I'm not sure if it's the "member hookup". It's all good though. Nice place to bowl.

We were celebrating our friend/coworker getting a dream job and getting out of the service industry! We bowled for 20 minutes before they told us they were gonna move us to a different lane because the leagues and reservations were coming in , cool no big deal , ten minutes later they tell us we have to leave because they don’t have a lane for us. I would have appreciated being told when we first arrived that they could not accommodate us at this time or that we would only be able to bowl for thirty minutes before the leagues and reservations came in. Also One of our friends baked a cake from scratch for the celebration, we were told we could not bring in outside food, but if we had made a reservation we would have been allowed to bring the cake. so we asked if there was a fee to make a reservation. They said there is no fee. So I don’t understand what the difference is ? He had to take the cake home so it wouldn’t go to waste sitting in the car and then he drove back to bowlero. Also A double vodka is $22 , I thought I was in Bakersfield not Vegas So we went to firehouse where we got great service and didn’t get told to leave after bowling for 30 minutes Staff was unwelcoming and didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience. They didn’t charge us thankfully but an apology in the service industry goes a long way.

Bowled 2 games here on a Wednesday after league. Love the atmosphere, I would guess it’s been remodeled sometime within the last 5ish years. Brainy Actz Escape Rooms Bakersfield offers an exhilarating escape room experience for families and groups. With a variety of themed rooms, visitors can enjoy an hour-long real-life puzzle adventure. The establishment is praised for its wonderful aesthetics, excellent service, and engaging experiences. Families can have a blast trying to solve the puzzles and escape the room of their choice. The game masters are described as fun and helpful, enhancing the overall experience.
We did the Paint Splatter room when we went to Brainy Actz this time for my sister’s birthday. I highly recommend using the smocks/paint ponchos. We did not think not using them through. Luckily, my seats are leather and easy to wipe down, but then we sprayed off in the backyard with the hose before going to the showers to avoid getting paint all over the house. If you’re wanting to take a shirt or something to be covered in paint to remember the experience, I suggest taking it on a hanger. There were 5 of us that did the paint room, three adults, a teen and a toddler. We did the neon paint with the black light and the experience was a lot of fun. We did the upgrade for the paint guns and paint blasters. The electric gun was easier to use than the one you have to pump yourself but both in small increments. The paint blasters gave you more paint at once but you go through it a lot faster so you need refills more frequently. Which isn’t a big deal because you get unlimited paint. I wasn’t prepared for how cold the room was, and the paint is also cold so by the time the hour was up, we were all freezing; so be aware of that if you don’t like the cold. The girl working was really nice, welcoming and accommodating. Also the hour time limit was more than enough time.
Jessica C — Google review
Had a wonderful experience in the splatter room. It was great experiencing it with the lights on and then with the black lights on with the glow in the dark paint turned it into a totally different room and vibe. It was great that they gave us a Bluetooth speaker so we could play our music also.

My boyfriend and I did their “Mystery Lodge” escape room. We had a great time looking for clues and figuring out the puzzle. The room was set up very creatively, the way they pay close attention to detail really makes it seem like you’re a part of the story. The lovely lady at the front desk was very helpful with explaining everything we needed to know and giving us hints when we had difficulty with solving the puzzle. I recommend their escape rooms for anyone looking for a fun adventure to experience with friends, family, or a partner <3

It was fun and good cardio for an hour if you actually get into it. We do wish the room was larger with more barricades. The guns were hard to load and time consuming, our 8 yr old couldn’t do it herself.

We did the neon paint room and had such a great time. I thought the large glasses of paint were too much at first, but we ended up using all of it! The staff was friendly and engaging.

Really bad. My fiancé was having a bad day so I took him here. I bought the “rage room” base package + A ADD ON. I purchased the medium smash items as an add on so my fiancé would have more things to smash just in case the base package items wasn’t enough (it was definitely not enough!). We got to the rage room and when i saw how empty the “rage room” was I asked the girl in the front if I was missing the medium size items that I PAID to upgrade and she said yes. She said it wasn’t coming up on her computer. I had proof of purchase so I told her I could show her proof to fix this situation because wow the room was so empty. It was small. Really small. It had a couple tires inside which aren’t even fun to smash… my fiance and I were like??? And there was 5 glass Bottles to smash…. He finished the glass in under a minute. to make things worse the viewing glass is so dirty. You can barely see anything and for how expensive it is, clean the glass and make it more easy to see the person. The price was so expensive for the most silliest thing. I NEVER got my medium sized items added, and I never got an apology about it either. I went to the front after we were done and she looked at me crazy when I said I wanted a refund for the items I didn’t get. She literally told me she didn’t know how to do that and basically said I don’t know how to help. So I told her CALL YOUR BOSS and let them know what happened, she then called and he said he would give me a refund (after me having to drive all the way back here to ask because the manager never gave me a call back) BUT HE NEVER DID!!!! It’s been 6 days. Really bad experience doing the rage room. :/ took my fiance to let out anger and left the place upset.

We have learned how to skate (thank God for seals) at VCIC. My son had such a great experience with the mini condors and little Kings learn to skate programs. He is now apart of their in-house program and thriving!

Overpriced , they will not consider annual passes “because it didn’t work last time” and thats from the director , it’s tough to come and skate when the family costs 70$ every time . I suggest annual passes. Normal ice skating rinks have annual passes and cost around 5-10 per person , this $18 a person is ridiculous, I mean at least offer a cheaper price for those who have skates.

I've been going here for years, not as often. It's a really good place and I always have a blast. They don't have halves in skate sizes, but regardless they still fit pretty good. The price is reasonable, in my opinion. They clean the ice when it's time for public skating (which is what my review is based for). They play music when you're out on the ice, The workers are nice. I don't really have any complaints. A tip I have; check the weekly schedule on their website, because times do change. Weekdays are the least busy. But, I recommend going here. ⛸️🏒

My family had a great time. We attended public skate, and as a group.of beginners, we appreciated that it wasn't packed and that they had seal shaped skate helpers for rent. I wish they would allow use food as the snack bar wasn't even open during g our skate session.

The Big Red Barn, known as the flagship location of Murray Family Farms, is a must-visit destination on the outskirts of Bakersfield, California. It offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including guided tours, pick-your-own fruit sessions, and attractions like an animal train and petting garden. The farm also features seasonal events and a variety of farm activities suitable for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy picking their own fruits and vegetables or shop at the organic store for fresh produce.
This place was awesome!!! We got to pick our blackberries, they are delicious. We had lunch, a combo for $11.99 that consisted of a homemade pot pie, (a generous helping) mac and cheese, and a drink. The store has a lot of fruits, candy, and fun. Also, there are different birds and some farm animals. Definitely will go back.

Beautiful spot to stop for a break. I’ve driven past many times, but took the opportunity recently to stop in and take a quick look around. I will certainly have to come back or more lengthy visit. Lovely displays and huge variety of products in the store. Everything appears to be either from the farm itself or locally sourced. We took home some jams and jellies and an apple pie. The apple pie is delicious!
Evie H — Google review
Not a petting zoo or anything even remotely close, at least in August when we went. But you can see some typical farm fowl and goats through a fence by the parking lot. The store though was amazing. Awesome homemade, farm-fresh goods at reasonable prices. Plenty of places to sit inside and outside, and the workers were polite, knowledgeable, and quick. Bought some hot pistachios and some organic treats.

Stopped because I saw the signs as I approached heading up 58. Glad I did. I enjoyed the unique citrus fruit offered as well as the apples and other fruits and neat treats of all kinds. Prices are good as well. I don't usually like grapefruit but enjoyed the Oro Blanco. Mild. Juicy. Good. Would definitely recommend a stop.

I haven't had a chance to do the U-pick yet, but I've always had good service whenever I come through. Their savory okie pies are a delight and never miss. I only tried the apple pie once but it's a touch on the sweet side so I'd give that particular pie a 4.5/5 but a 5/5 on everything else. This is the first time I've tried the fruit and it was all delicious. The cherries are sweet and tart and the strawberries are plump and juicy. I definitely recommend buying anything that's in season because it is all good.

Lots of activities for all ages. We went during October where you recieve a free pumpkin with purchase of the wrist bands. My only suggestion would be to have some kind of help getting the pumkin back to the car. There was 4 of us and trying to carry 4 pumkins was rough..flat carts would have been a great feature..my son enjoyed the giant pillow!

This was a good 2 to 3 hour adventure with several activities to do. The corn maze was fun, a few fair type games also. Lots to do for kids and adults. Gets a little crowded on the weekend.

The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater is a significant landmark in downtown Bakersfield, offering nearly a century of entertainment. This ornate theater, which opened in 1930, has been meticulously restored and hosts a variety of performances ranging from pop music to film noir. The Spanish Colonial Revival style architecture with intricate detailing and an impressive marquee adds to the grandeur of the venue. It's a must-visit for those seeking cultural experiences in Bakersfield.
The Fox Theatre is a landmark that deserves praise. The shows here are magnificent, outstanding, and very entertaining. Killer Queen did an amazing job tributing to Queen. Bakersfield residents wake up and realize that Bakersfield has content, taste, and talent!!

This theater is beautiful but has limited parking so come early to get the closest parking near the entrance. The seats are comfortable and has amazing AC. The event itself was beautiful but the security kept repeating that photos and videos weren’t allowed and that got a bit annoying. But overall it’s an amazing experience with a beautiful place that dates back to the 1930’s so that’s cool. Note: The ballet company themselves didn’t allow photos or videos each event is different so depending on the event you are attending you’ll be able to have the choice to have your phone out if they say so or not.

Went to our very first show here tonight, for The Rocky Horror Picture Show 50th anniversary screening, and it was INCREDIBLE!!! The Velevet Darkness was so awesome that we want to see everything they do! Heather was SO impressive!!!! Moving on that stage like she was born for it! Robin, Echo, and KYLE were KILLER!!!!! And Shay, who works for the actual Fox Theater MADE OUR NIGHT!! She went above and beyond to ensure we had the BEST experience and we WILL be back based on how fantastic she was! If I have another kid, they will be named Shay!! Seriously, if you plan to attend a show, go, and have the time of your life! ♡♡♡♡

The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater, November 4, 2024 "Inclusion Films" Presents it two Christmas movies & it's always free to the public. So I came to see the movies because my nephew works there at "Inclusion Films" & he's an editor & he's been there a very long time first through the schooling part & now working for Dale & Joey Talvota. Dale is so awesome with all of the students with different disabilities & his staff is also! Thank You so very much Joey Talvota for doing this & to The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater for always hosting the "Inclusion Films" with much love & respect! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s & 💯%+ Great Job! 😎👍 P.S. Don't forget the 🍿 popcorn because it's one of the best around & plus a nice cold drink & a candy to go along with it!

We drove 3 hours for a Mariachi concert of Los Camperos de Chuy Guzman. The place is nice but the seats are kinda small and not very comfortable if you're a large person. But we enjoyed the show of Los Camperos. My wife and I have been enjoying their presentations whenever they're in our surroundings.

We just saw Brad Williams. He was great! However, I DO NOT like fox theater. I had to use the restroom and was rushed out. My group was waiting for me and they were pushed out. I wanted to get something to support Brad's family/show but was not allowed to. We were even going to wait pure turn but nope. And it was way to hot.

Great venue. Lots of history, and there are good reasons why. Starting with the external "Hotel California" vibe with the neon, white masonry and palm 🌴. Cool and somewhat decadent inside architectural features may have contributed to the fantastic sound. Sightlines are good and ticket prices are decent. Entry and exit were quick. Went to see Blackberry Smoke. Awesome show from the Smoke as always. Miles Miller opened. I'd go see that act again. I'd not hesitate to go see another show at the Fox.

The Park at River Walk in Bakersfield is a sprawling 32-acre park with an amphitheater surrounded by water, offering various live music performances. It's the largest and most beautiful park in the area, providing ample opportunities for outdoor fun and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy gazebos, picnic areas, grills, well-maintained restrooms, fishing spots, and paved paths while taking in picturesque views.
I attended a Save the Kern River awareness walk. The walking/bike path is well maintained. The winding path snakes parallel to the Kern River. The path is relaxing. There are lots of plants and animals, and when there is water in the river, there are fish, water birds, and other animals. The other side of the walk path is extensive shopping centers. There are places to sit, benches, grassy areas, and playgrounds. This is a great place to be out in nature while still being in the city. The path is wheelchair accessible and can be a great family adventure. Come check out this fun walkway.

A really nice well maintained park with many areas for spreading out so you're not crowded next to other people. The bike path took you around to the other lake and over the bridge to a park that has workout equipment. There's some great picture spots and we really enjoyed ourselves. Bring your bikes or scooters.

Escape the sweltering heat of Bakersfield by cooling off at the lively McMurtrey Aquatic Center. This popular public swimming pool offers a range of activities for families and friends, from leisurely swims to thrilling water slides and diving boards. The center features an expansive recreational pool as well as an Olympic-sized competition pool, providing options for both relaxation and sport.
I've been bringing my kids here ever since they opened. Every year we've never had any problems and this year has been no different. Out of all the Bakersfield pools I've been to this one is the best mainly if you have kids. They also updated their slides this year which is a benefit to everyone who uses them. Lifeguards are generally nice with the exception of one occassionally ( everyone has grumpy days). I find the prices at the snack bar decent to comparable to other places like it. Children 2 and under are free. Individuals are $4 each or they offer a deal for a family of 4 which is a couple of dollars cheaper. My kids had started coming here when they were pretty young and now they are teenagers and they still love it. The weight limit on the slide is 300 lb which allows even the plus-size patrons such as myself to have a good time sliding down into the water. I recommend bringing a camping chair that you can sit on because the tables are in demand and if you can't stop lawn you can set up your chairs in an area along the fence under some of the shade trees. They accept cash and credit cards to get in and at the food court. I do wish they would open at 12 instead of one at least on some days.

Great pool with lots of free lanes. Music is fun too! The only thing is that opening hours on google should be updated - it's actually open from 10AM to 1PM.
Zosia R — Google review
This place lists that it's open on Saturdays and I did see lifeguards coming in and out. So I asked if they open at 1pm? since it was already 1:05pm. They said no they're closed today, and open on Monday but their is no longer any recreational swimming such as riding the slides. They're only open for swimming lanes, back and forth swimming. Why not list that all recreational activities are canceled? They disappointed me and my daughter.

Show was awesome, but the dining menu was a little on the expensive side. $12 for a plate of fries seems excessive. They charged us $48 for 4 sides of fries. Won't be ordering food from them again.

The dessert was good, but the rest of the meal was like mediocre banquet food. The show was pretty good, but the dancing needed a little more practice to try to get everyone closer together. The acting and singing were impressive. I'll.go again. Nothing was bad enough that it's worth a 3-hour drive to SoCal for better food or dancing.

Went and saw Little Mermaid. Entertaining little venue. Food was decent. I like my prime rib a little closer to medium rare than well done, but it was good nonetheless
Tommy T — Google review
This was my first visit to the Stars Theatre Restaurant. The food was ok, but kind of plain. I had the beef stroganoff and vegetables. I also had one of the specialty drinks of the night, coffee, and the sherbet for dessert. Service was wonderful and the show was also fantastic! Where I was sitting, there was a constant rumbling under the floor. I don't know what it was. I found it annoying at first, but then I grew used to it. Overall a positive experience and I would go back for the theater, but probably get dinner somewhere else.
Katie P — Google review
While we were not able to try any of the food due to our vegan diet. The wait staff were very attentive, kind, and offered us service multiple times. The actor that played Lumiere was amazing. Fortunately he was loud enough that he didn't really need the audio system to function well. Be careful when selecting seats online. The stage is not a raised stage above the audience except for maybe the first row. There are raised graduated sections with 2 rows of tables. 4 person tables in the first row of each graduated section and 2 person tables in the second row. We were seating at table 308. I would recommend getting a 4 person table since it appears they get placed at the front of the raised level, or at least for our row they did. Being behind a table of 4 in our situation occluded the majority of the stage for us. My short wife could barely see anything and I got stuck behind a guy with a top hat on so I wasn't much better off. My wife found the chairs to be extremely uncomfortable to her. I found the chairs to be tolerable but I wouldn't call them comfortable. The worst part for us was the audio. During some of the songs the speakers sounded like they were struggling / breaking like very old church speakers. Some of the actors / actresses we could barely hear during songs or during speaking parts. Not being able to see or hear most of the play was a little much for us and we got bored. We left during the intermission and didn't finish the play.

The Kern County Fair provided an enjoyable and memorable experience. Purchasing tickets online proved to be a convenient option, simplifying the entry process. Additionally, they had a separate line for strollers, ensuring a smoother entrance for families with young children. The trash can drink was highly recommended and deemed essential by attendees. The fair also offered margaritas near the stage performances, which were considered the best in town. For those looking for souvenirs, photo key chains were available as well.
It was the first time I could say the rides and staff were a nice experience. Just a note that I bought 4 unlimited tickets for me, my husband, and 2 kids, but I saw people that just bought one unlimited ticket and entered 4 kids at the same time when it clearly said one per person handwrists, but the staff didn't say anything, and that's ok. And don't forget to bring shoes closed some kids ride is required. Prices $15 per person, under 6 year free Parking $10 per day $44 pass unlimited rides They have bathroom I can suggest is you go with kids don't need buying tickets for an adults you can save for food o games for $10 each

Across the street from the fair grounds is their huge parking lot. This lot is excellent to come workout at if your a runner a speed walker or for skating or riding scooters with your kids. I see people ride bikes like I do, it’s so much own space and the parking lot ground gravel is nice and smooth. My kid and I even brought our go carts and drove all on the far end of it where it’s smoother flat ground away from the runners and walkers and it is so long of a giant wide space it’s just perfect. I do recommend getting there maybe an hour before sunset so you can enjoy your workout, without having to be walking or running at dark. It is not always lit however during events at the fair year round it will be lit up like it’s daylight. If the gates are closed there is space to park your car near the white gates by the ticket hub which are not open for parking after business hours of the fair. Don’t leave trash or beverage containers etc when you visit to do some of those activities I mentioned. be respectful even if there happen to be vehicles there in the parking lot just be mindful. And hopefully everything remains as chill as it is now.

The Kern county fair is the place to go in the month of September. If you haven't bought your tickets yet, there's still time what a great time we had.
Raymond F — Google review
The fair was amazing my only issue is the fast pass. They sold out of all the fast passes and that banged all of us normal people who didn't make it in time to purchase. I have no problem with that. There was 15-2hr waits for all the primer rides. I could not take my son on the best ride at the park showing up at 6pm and hopping in line at 9pm. We left the line to experience other rides before the park closed. The food was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was clean and there was a heavy police presence. Fun time for the family if you have time. The fact that it's $1 per ticket leaves a lot for blue collar families. Only to stand in line for 2hrs while fast pass skips you the entire time. Up to you.
Kevin M — Google review
We went to the Kern County Fair on Saturday between 1-4:30 pm, and it was the perfect time to visit - not crowded at all! We had a blast enjoying the rides and attractions without the usual chaos. By 4:30, people started arriving, so we avoided the heavy traffic both in and out. The food was tasty, a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Overall, a fun, relaxed, and well organized fair - highly recommend going earlier in the day to skip the crowds!
Jaime B — Google review
I'm truly disappointed. From beginning to end, it was chaotic. There were staff directing parking, yet they didn't realize there were no available spots. The entrance was a complete disarray. Nobody checked if the kids had their seat belts fastened during the ride. The food was not only terrible but also overpriced. Everything, not just the food, was costly. I felt like Kern County just takes advantage of us once a year. I believe there are more important things than just making money once a year.

It's nice that the park is adopted by La Vida Nueva, and they clean up the park every month, but the amount of ground squirrels is ridiculous. Can only blame nature, for that; well, also, the people who love leaving food &/or feeding them. Stop feeding the squirrels!

If you're planning to have a picnic, bring a ton of stuff to clean the tables. They are filthy. Not they weren't cleaned in a week filthy, but not cleaned in months filthy. There's many vagrants and shady folks around as well. The playground is in decent condition and my 6yo enjoyed them, until we found human excrement between the rock climbing walls. Also the ground squirrels were super cute and rampant for my kiddo to chase... Hence the one star. Avoid if you're looking for a nice spot off the highway, to enjoy a picnic.

I'm rating only for the skate park we did not enjoy the park area because of the homeless that were lurking around. I took my twin 7 year old boys with their scooters and even though some of the drops are to advance for them. They had so much fun on some of the other skate park drop ins. I would say that the skate park itself is not as slick as some others we have been too which made it better for beginners like my boys. Overall extremely satisfied with the skatepark. We also went when it was not super busy it's definitely a teenage/older crowd. We didn't want to worry about to much cross traffic so we went when it's less busy.

Nice clean park with park maintenance active while we were there. Didn't use the restrooms so I wasn't aware of their condition. Couldn't let our dog off her leash to play Frisby as there were too many little ones to distract her. A father had to pull a transient looking man wearing only shorts out of the water spray area. He kindly escorted the man and his female companion away from where all the kids were. All in all, we felt safe and it was free.

Clean, beautiful, and spacious park with plenty of bathrooms and covered seating. Great for kids and pets. A memorial to WW2 was an educational experience. We also saw a splash park (open Memorial Day to Labor Day). Great for kids!

Nice spacious park with trees, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds, pavilions, etc. Good vibe. I'd give 5 stars but the bathroom is incredibly gross, it's a biohazard in there. Hopefully it gets cleaned up ASAP and then regularly serviced. Peace and love 🩵

Rollerama-West is a fantastic destination for family fun, especially for those looking to escape the digital world. Recently, I attended a birthday party there and was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable the experience was. The atmosphere is vibrant, with great music and friendly staff who engage well with both kids and adults. One of the highlights was their innovative skating aids made from lightweight plastic pipes that help beginners stay on their feet—something I wish we had back in my day!
My daughter had her 6th birthday party here. Everyone had a blast.

Me and my family come here all the time to skate, been going here since I was around 6 and I will be celebrating my 16th birthday here this year! One of my favorite places to go skating in Bakersfield, musics always amazing anf the staff are super personable, deserves more yhen 5 stars tbh

We were there because my grandson was invited to a birthday party with a wonderful family, and I have to say they've haven't had a better time. Especially away from computers and and cell phones and all that jazz. They just flat had a great time. Plus something that they had that I didn't have when I was young, 10,000 years ago, was they made these special devices that help the child who has no experience skating stay on his feet they were made out of plastic pipe very light but strong and sturdy. And they had wheels on the bottom of course so he just skated around that thing like as if he'd been doing it all his life which has only been 6 years. Had a great time recommended to everybody.

Cheap and fun way to spend a family day. Some of the skates are shot to peices but it was fun. We got to help other kids. Play limbo. Do the shuffle dance. Spent 2 or 3 hours there. Would go again. I haven't bladed since high school lol. It was a blast all the way around

Mill Creek Park is a picturesque urban oasis conveniently located within walking distance of downtown. The park's linear layout, which follows the path of a former irrigation canal, has been revitalized into a stunning walking trail adorned with lush landscaping and inviting benches. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls while taking in the scenic views and observing local wildlife such as ducks. While some have noted occasional peaceful moments, others caution against visiting after dark due to safety concerns.
Beautiful seens, river running, ducks swimming, bridges crossing to different paths of the park. The homeless and mentally challenged are present. We just kept our distance, and I kept alert, I got it on me! Njoy FolkZ, it is a beautiful park!!!

I went on a nice little picnic and fed the ducks it’s an awesome place to take pictures under the big trees or you could also feed the pigeons and birds and watch their different personalities and feathers as they eat their bread. Overall a nice park but if you want to use the restroom goodluck.

This is a beautiful Park however it needs a lot of cleanup. There are people doing drugs right out in the open. It's more of a homeless people Park, there are people that talk to themselves out loud walking around yelling at the air. I am surprised that the park rangers allow all of this I thought Parks were for kids to come play there are people's clothes laying around in the water along with trash if only it could be kept clean and not have people laying around doing drugs and sleeping all over the place it would be a gorgeous Park

I love Mill Creek Park. My dogs always enjoy coming here, too. It has an old time appeal with the ducks and the water. The bathroom is not always open, though, and when it is it's a little creepy to use. Bring your own TP.

When the little ones start feeling restless, why not take the adventure outside? From splash-worthy pools to relaxing hot tubs, this place offers a variety of options that cater to both children and adults alike.
I lost control of my pool. My sweeper wasn't cleaning and picking up the dirt and leaves that are now falling. I had just changed the water and it was getting green again. I walked in to backyard and home store and Patrick and Anthony were able to tell me and help me with the problem. Turns out I needed to replace some parts and now my sweeper is like a speed racer running around and cleaning my pool like it was brand new!!! You are so lucky to have such wonderful employees with so much expertise! I am so overjoyed and elated because I don't have to go out back and manually clean the pool with the manual brush and attachments! In the heat!! You now have a new lifelong customer as long as those two are working there!! I highly recommend this business!!

I called to get my spa fixed or hoping and then here we go . I can’t really call him a spa tech cause he was just fumbling around but really didn’t know what he was doing he even shocked himself. He was just lost and at the end of all this said he would get back to me after needing to call manufacturer and blaugh blaugh. 🤦🏽‍♂️ No follow up at all and him knowing I filled the spa for him to fix and that eventually would turn green. It didn’t because I know better but some people don’t or can’t. They were so quick about cashing that check but no follow up. “Can’t follow up if you don’t know what you are doing”. I would never do business with these incompetents. 🚫 steer clear and call someone else.

Great product, sales was easy but maintenance sevice was atrocious. 1 year after we purchased we were buying product for hot tub and were advised to service hot tub. So we made an appointment for service. Day came and it was horrible, tech didn’t finish the cleaning and had to call multiple times to get service finished. Tech was always in a hurry and never completely finished the job, never provided full chemical treatment. Every time we called it was always”call us back”. Now my hot tub is green and foamy. For $269.72 I expect a full complete service. I will never use there service again and not certainly every 3 months as they recommend. 😡😡

We had an excellent experience with poolside. They reorganized our pools withdrawal and replace system and put in a better filter and we now have a beautiful blue pool that was always green before
Myron P — Google review
We went in originally looking for a children pool. We wanted a good in between due to having little ones as well as older ones. Anthony answered any questions We had. He even measured our youngest to try to give us peace that He’d be okay. We walked around thinking about it then start looking at the Spas. Now We had two things to think of. We went home and thought about it some more.... Went back a few days later and decided it was a great decision. The pool benefits the kids and the spa benefits the adults. We made the decision and had the pool same day and spa a few days later. Hussain was a great sales man and also answered any questions. Hussein was friendly, helpful, and didn't push to sale , so I loved that. Anthony and Amanda came to have the spa installed while working in the heat and still did amazing! They worked well and took great care of Us. They got everything set up and explained in detail what needs to be done to have the best experience. Thank you Backyards and Homes. We are 100% satisfied! Our kids are now better swimmers in such little time the adults will have a place to relax and watch them play this summer!
Charisma R — Google review
I purchased a hot tub from Hussain after an hour on the phone asking him question after question concerning my hot tubs needs. He was very patient and knowledgeable and I felt no pressure at all to make the purchase, so I rewarded him with a sale of a hot tub sight unseen over the phone. I did spend a lot of time in person with his delivery person Anthony, who really aimed to please. He managed to squeeze the 700lb hot tub through a very tight space, and he did it masterfully without one tiny scratch. He cleaned the tub thoroughly before he filled it with water, and even trimmed some tree branches hanging over the tub that bothered him. Overall first rate service.

Anthony and Patrick went above and beyond delivering and installing our hot tub. They took great care installing and took the time to explain everything and answer any questions I had. Additionally, the showroom experience was exceptional. Hussein was friendly, helpful, and didn't push. I'll be a repeat customer for this family business for sure!

Everything went great! We set out to shop at 3 different stores. They were our first and last. From the friendly greeting in the showroom by Husain to the beautiful bubbles in the back yard by Steve and Oscar. Husain was amazing in our search. He helped us to find what would suit us just fine. He was honest about the delays in special orders due to Covid. Fortunately we were excited about one we found in the showroom. He came out to the house to check the location to make sure it would be ok. Steve and Oscar brought it out to us in the time frame promised. The were friendly and walked us through every step. They installed the cover lifting arm (highly recommend purchasing one) and showed us how to use it. They were able to explain why certain things were happening as the process of starting one up is more than just turning it on. We appreciated that they both had 20+ years experience in doing what they do. Thank you guys!

Park
Nestled southwest of Bakersfield, Lake Evans at the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts. This picturesque locale boasts two stunning lakes, with Lake Evans being particularly renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities—anglers often reel in sizable trout here. The area is also a haven for water sports lovers, offering activities like water skiing and boating on the adjacent Lake Webb.
If I'm being honest, I'm starting to think this would be a great place for a larger family party, you know. Where you can play lawn games, go back to your campsite or home. You can go fishing, boating, or go to the shooting range Not that bad of a park. It's unassuming for sure. There's a campsite that I didn't visit so I can't speak on that. However, when you drive down further, it's a spacious park. You'll have plenty of room to be on your own if you wanna fish. There's more than enough boat docks if you want to get on the water. There's a convenience store plus a small gas pump in-between the camp and the day-use area. It seems like they stopped caring for their facilities. Instead, probably to save on time and money, they have port-a-potties near every bathroom. The ports are a lot cleaner than what I was anticipating, if I'm being honest. There aren't any hiking trails, I was hoping there would be a few There's a shooting range right behind the camp. I'm not sure on their pricing or anything like that

On the kern county website it was said that there was a 1,400 lb. Trout plant on the 26th. I went out there this morning and the lake was full of people and no one was catching anything. No one was even getting bites. I have fished here in the past and have had great success, but I am starting to get skeptical about how much fish they actually stock in here now. I hope something changes. It really is a nice lake, such a shame.

Beautiful rustic park with giant shady trees and area that can be used for equestrian events. Love the evening sunsets where you can see gigantic flocks of small birds leaving the wetland on the far side of the lake (see close up of plain pic.), nice sunsets, and we had a pair of ducks that would swim over near our bank and fill up on fish. We also were visited by a large flick of pelicans. If you are lucky you may see a pair of otters. The restrooms were clean and had changing booths but no stall doors.

I’ve lived here close to 5 years as a renter. I rent the space as well as the home on it. I gave a 3 star rating for a few reasons that are directly related to Storz Management Company and in no way a reflection of the current on site management or the maintenance staff. Christine in the front office is wonderful. I’ve seen 3 managers come and go and she has been the best by far. This place was essentially dumped in her lap suddenly and she has risen to the challenge. Our maintenance staff TJ is very friendly and kind every time I interact with him. He’s generally on top of getting things done when he doesn’t face delays handed down by corporate. This place has improved in a few ways over the last 2 years but it’s also gone down in ways. Corporate never fails to increase rent to the highest extent they can but the amenities become less or we are limited in their use. I started off paying around $1300 and am now at over $1600 for a mobile home. It’s outrageous but I can’t afford to save up and leave. Despite renting the home, they refuse to cover pest control service anymore when it was always covered for the first few years of tenancy. I have major red and black any problems every spring/summer and it’s a battle with corporate every single time I need to get anything done. They don’t do the yard care anymore either and haven’t for a long time but it was included as well when I moved in. We only recently got security gates installed after years of begging due to insane levels of crime inside the park, nonstop homeless trespassing, and the park not ever being safe and secure. There has been a big decrease in that activity since the gates have been functional thankfully. We also had our brick walls along the canal raised an additional couple bricks which helped a lot to deter wall jumpers. I know our manager fought hard for this to be done so big thanks to her. But of course corporate couldn’t miss an opportunity to tax us harder by charging a whopping $65 for a gate clicker so many of us are left having to spend additional time getting in with the manual gate codes because we can’t afford clickers. Getting repairs done takes a long time because everything has to be approved by them up north and they drag their feet. Living somewhere run by a corporate office shows you that you are of no value as a person or tenant but they sure do love your money. Christine truly means well but I know she is drastically limited by her bosses. She is always very kind and pleasant. She does her absolute best to address any issues that arise. She holds monthly social gatherings in the clubhouse to promote an environment of neighborly friendliness and community as well as neighborhood watch meetings. There’s always snack and drinks too so that’s a plus lol. Overall this place isn’t too bad and I do love my little home but if I had the opportunity, I’d probably relocate because it’s very overpriced and only going up higher each year. Oh and the pool opens too late and closes too early each year. It’s Bakersfield and its HOTTTT so we need it open longer. That part sucks as well as the few dummies in here that can’t follow rules and get it shut down. Don’t be one of those guys. Thanks 😁 no place is perfect and this is home for now so I make the best of it and am grateful to have a place to call home when others aren’t as fortunate.
Jennifer C — Google review
Edit: Moved from one star to 4 stars. Management abruptly switched hands a few months ago, and we have had no issues at all since then. The new manager is nice and respectful, the threats have evaporated, and all around, the park is a lot more homey feeling now. People aren't afraid to get a notice/violation warning about their yard if they go on vacation anymore. We put a fence up around our yard and got some Ring cameras, so we haven't had any unwanted visitors in our yard for a good while, either. There are still people in the canal daily, but the new management fixes the fences when they can, and the cops are keeping them from camping out at the ends of the canal anymore. Original: Don't move here. Yeah, it's quiet, until your yard and house get broken into multiple times, and vagrants roam through the canal, cutting through people's yards and stealing things. The manager treats tenants like children, and "removes" "privileges" that we ALL pay for at her own whim. She can't even follow her own rules, and we're all sick of it. Don't be surprised if there's a change in management coming, yet again.
Michelle A — Google review
Stayed for 2 years. With Storz mgmt Co., rent increases the max each year and they don't keep their promises. Frequent front office changes and crime is rampant!although they promised to add security in 2016,most neighbors are good people who can't afford anything else.

The Lori Brock Discovery Center is a serene and attractive destination that offers respite from the bustling city. It provides a secure and welcoming atmosphere for people of all ages. Although it lacks a dedicated playground, there are various areas where both children and adults can find enjoyment. As one of the premier museum complexes in the Central Valley, this 16-acre site encompasses both indoor and outdoor spaces at the Kern County Museum.
Great little children’s museum for kids, not as big or fancy as some that we’ve visited but it’s great for local parents (especially with littles) who want to get out and do something in the daytime (or escape the summer heat). The pretend room has a fire station, police station, ambulance, doctors office, barn, ball pit, building/construction zone, a reading nook, and more. There’s an outdoor play space with a playground and a “dinosaur dig”, as well as a room with more technology related things and an arts & crafts area for little kids along with a different craft every day they’re open.

I came across this on google maps and have been meaning to check it out. It’s really a wonderful place, with a lot of foliage growth. I had no idea this was in the middle of our city. I only went about a third of the way in, but I can’t wait to bring the dogs and come back in the spring as well.

FORAGERS: there's an ABUNDANCE of elderberry bushes. You'll also find some brambles, wild rosehips, Gooding's willow, and inedible gourds. Cool place to go for a walk at. Be careful though, the ranchers who live in the area think everyone is sus. They kept a close eye on me. Not just when I was near my car but on the trails too. They had someone drive by every so often, just watching... They won't acknowledge your existence though, they're just paranoid. Kinda funny since they put so much effort into it being a nature preserve for people to hike at but whenever someone's there, they make it unbearably uncomfortably with their dead eyes carefully watching your every movement. DO NOT GO ALONE unless you're ready to keep yourself alive. I don't trust them. I'm a white male and my gut was telling me that they're not worthy of trust. If you're someone who identifies as a woman or if you're a more obvious member of LGBTQIA+ , please bring something to keep yourself alive. Bakersfield is super conservative / misogynistic. Them cowboys think they're hotshots that can do whatever they want because they got a tail between their cowardly legs

A family-friendly hidden gem. Clean trails, lots of diverse native plants and animals. Very peaceful and quiet place to teach kids about nature. Many tall trees for shade, with a lot more that have been planted. Informative signs along the trails. Bathroom was clean. Bakersfield Cactus in bloom was very pretty. Stands of Elder, Yarrow, Cottonwood, and Sycamore. Definitely a special place.

I have found that this is a good location to take my dogs out and get some exercise myself with a little jog and being able to be at one with nature the only downside I have found that there is not much shade and getting to the water to cool off seems to be kind of difficult as well

Kat and her team are great to work with. They know about every type of school imaginable, in every corner of the globe, so my daughter can be exposed to more options and find a perfect fit. Working with Kat means I can stay out of the conversation and college can truly be a student-led discovery. Kat makes the college search an adventure instead of a stress-filled burden. We HIGHLY recommend working with her. She has a number of different plans for different budgets, and all of them are worth every penny.

Kat Clowes and her team are amazing. They break down the college admissions and application process into a structured and manageable timeline, with tasks that are achievable even while these kids manage school, work, and extracurriculars. Kat also teaches these high schoolers to do a deep dive when deciding on a school, with the goal of finding the exact right fit for that student. March Consulting positioned my daughter well to submit compelling applications, not only to a college admissions office, but also for scholarships. We are so happy to have worked with her, and have signed up my son as he begins his college search.

If you're looking for a unique summer experience for your child, consider enrolling them in a culinary arts class at Rigatoni & Robots. This innovative center merges cooking with STEM education, making learning both fun and engaging. With its hands-on approach, students can explore the science behind cooking while honing their culinary skills. Many have enjoyed field trips to this vibrant venue, where they’ve had the opportunity to learn from enthusiastic instructors who cater to various age groups.
This is my 5th time taking students on a field trip to Rigatoni & Robots. Every single time they have had so much fun and learned so many new things! Laurie and her team of college students are great at explaining concepts to all grade levels. This is by far the best place to go for a hands-on experience with a STEAM focus. I am already planning our next trip!
