Specialty Museums
The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library offers guided tours of the former president's birth home and personal belongings, as well as access to a related museum and gardens. The museum itself is not very large, but visitors have the opportunity to learn about Wilson's character through informative guides. While admission may be considered slightly expensive at $15, it is worth visiting for those interested in history and can be completed within an hour.
It was not a very busy day so the fact that we had to circle the block to find the parking lot and I was a bit winded by the walk up the stairs to the entrance was part of the experience. I wish I had spent more time in the museum. The WWI exhibition in the basement was well done. Especially since I had just seen All Quiet on the Western Front. See the house he was born in as it was in the 1850’s was fascinating.
Erin B — Google review
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Very informative exhibits for both World War 1 and Wilson’s life. Worth the little side tour of his birthplace.
Susan B — Google review
I loved the little group of buildings that made up this museum. The grounds were nicely maintained and the gift shop had some very nice items. There are 3 floors in the house where Wilson was born and all but the top floor was accessible for wheelchair users.
Lauren T — Google review
Very nicely-curated museum and historical birthplace of President Wilson. Guided tours offered about every 90 minutes included with admission. About $20 per person, with some discounts for seniors, students, etc.
Mike — Google review
We loved our little tour of the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Museum! What a man he was. The collection of historical items was very interesting. Most especially the Pierce Arrow limo. Also the WWI trench exhibit was very poignant and fascinating.
Andrea D — Google review
My husband and I are very interested in history and we made a special trip to Woodrow Wilson's presidential library and his childhood home. We had a great docent who knew a lot of period and family. Even the gift shop was great! There was a wonderful employee there who also informed us of other historical information. She was very charming. Probably spent too much money there, but we bought some unique Christmas gifts. Highly recommend!
Philomena R — Google review
Nice museum. It's not very big which was nice. Great WWI display and tour.
Tom S — Google review
Your admission price gets you into the Woodrow Wilson Museum and a guided tour of the house his family lived when he was born. Parking is free. Very nice and knowledgeable staff. Our guide was Linda, fun and personable. If you enjoy going through old houses, you will enjoy this.

Frontier Culture Museum is a unique tourist attraction that offers visitors the opportunity to take self-guided tours of Colonial farms. The museum boasts a costumed staff, typical buildings, crops and animals that showcase life in the new and old world. During the winter season, guests can enjoy individual tours with golf cart rides to navigate around the property. However, visiting during non-winter months is recommended as it allows visitors to see people actually living on the property.
Brilliant. We hired the golf buggie for $25 to speed us up as we were on a long drive after, it was brilliant and a great way to get around the museum as its 2 miles to walk it. All staff so engaging and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed and highly recommend. The houses are really great and it was very interesting.
Charlotte D — Google review
A great place to go, we were very pleased. The staff were informative and nice, the exhibits were interesting, and everything appeared well maintained. For the price this is a very good deal. Plus water bottles are priced reasonably and there are fountains throughout the site. Be prepared to walk alot and have at least 2 hours to walk through the entire site. When we were there construction was occurring for additional buildings. This did not disrupt the experience once we entered the site.
Chris T — Google review
We loved driving the golf cart around to the living history exhibits. It was a lovely day and the reassembled houses and structures were amazing. I’d definitely recommend renting the golf cart.
Shannon B — Google review
So beautifully laid out. Every person we encountered was cheerful and SO knowledgeable! You could tell they took real joy in telling us about the history. We loved our visit so much!
Katie R — Google review
Lots of history to learn about here. It made you feel like you were traveling from Africa to England to Italy and more. The exhibits were awesome. There is alot of walking so I recommend renting the golf cart as we did. The staff and "Characters" dressed as though they were from the time period were knowledgeable and answered my many questions.
Anna L — Google review
Interesting place. Houses representing Europe one direction, representing US the other. West Africa on one end and a black church on the other end. Shuttles to the European side were very nice. Since the American side was not a loop and more hilly, wish there had been shuttles there. Drivers were very nice. Worth the money. More info on differences between Indigenous nations/tribes needed. All Eastern tribes were lumped together and that misrepresents them.
Jo D — Google review
Great place to learn about frontier culture and early American history. Guides are knowledgeable and friendly and exhibits are fun! Recommend going when it’s not super hot outside for the best experience, as you’ll do a lot of walking.

Nestled in downtown Staunton, Virginia, the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse is a charming venue that offers classical performances in a re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theater. This historic city boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene, with attractions like the Frontier Culture Museum and Woodrow Wilson presidential library. The playhouse itself is an authentic re-creation of London's 17th century Blackfriars Playhouse, where Shakespeare's works were originally performed.
We saw A Christmas Carol and it was great! The production far exceeded our expectations. We hadn’t seen a show there for many years. This is a definite must do when in Central VA. Note: As a recreation of the original Globe Theater in London from the year 1599, it does not have the most comfortable seating. Get over it and realize that we have become soft.
Jamie F — Google review
Have been to see 2 plays. The first time we saw Pride & Prejudice and we loved it. Second time, we saw A Winters Tale, and while I didn't enjoy it as much because of the heavy Shakespeareon dialect, but it was still very good. I did not enjoy that they had draped the outside in anti-American/anti-family flags, and the person at the door was outfitted with nose rings and anti-family pins on her uniform. I would recommend visiting if you have the ability to ignore the extreme Liberal influence.
Frankie M — Google review
What a fun place to go see a play! My three high schoolers and I went to Sense and Sensibility this June (2025) and we loved it. We were offered the chance to sit on the stage, which was especially cool, and we loved the live music before the performance and during intermission. This was one of our summer highlights this year.
Libby G — Google review
We had the pleasure of seeing their modern interpretation of Romeo & Juliet! It was AMAZING! A little live music from the cast at the beginning of the show and returning from intermission, so fun! The actors are all first rate in delivering a true to form Shakespeare dialogue, while bringing the dress and characters into modern day. Loved it!!!
Drew M — Google review
My husband and I spent the weekend in Staunton, celebrating our anniversary. We love history and the arts so we thought it'd be a good choice, and seeing Julius Caesar performed at this theater was a wonderful addition to our weekend plans. The staff were great and the actors were amazing. They really stay true to the Shakespearean experience and it's something to behold! Everyone did a magnificent job. My only complaint is that we sat in the second row on the second level and there was absolutely no back support. It's just a bench, which can be uncomfortable after 2+ hours. It appeared that the other seats had at least partial backs. Just something to make note of if you're making seat selections. Other than that, terrific!
Robin L — Google review
Excellent, excellent, excellent. If you have the opportunity to visit, go. The players and cast are amazing. They pull you right into the performance. I was somewhat skeptical at first. But you will not be disappointed. We are looking forward to returning.
James S — Google review
This is a gorgeous recently renovated theater in Staunton, Virginia. We went to see The Tempest by William Shakespeare on a weekday. The acting was excellent. Bonus points for labeling the gender-neutral bathroom and for the actors telling us their pronouns in the talk back about the show. This was my first time in Staunton and my first time at the theater. We will definitely come back!

Park
Nestled in the heart of Staunton, Gypsy Hill Park is a sprawling 214-acre oasis that promises a delightful day out for visitors of all ages. This vibrant park features an array of attractions, including a charming mini-train known as The Gypsy Express, which operates from May to October. Families can enjoy leisurely strolls around the picturesque duck pond where swans and ducks await eager feeders.
It is the most beautiful duck pond I have ever seen. The swans are beautiful. There is an Exon almost in front of the park where you can buy bags of food for $1. For the fish there are dispensing machines for $0.25. It is a super large park for walking, relaxing, it has an exercise area, a small stream and a small train station for children.
Wendy K — Google review
Great park with activities for everyone. Dog park, pool, train for the kids, picnic tables, duck pond, and so much more. **Bring your quarters if you want to feed the wildlife, they have feeding stations dispensers around the pond area.
Chad C — Google review
Very NICE family friendly park for any age group! Great area to walk, walk a dog, exercise, or sit and watch the fish, and even feed the fish etc. Peaceful area. We love their train! The staff for the train are just super friendly and sweet! A nice lady took our picture. We have so much FUN!
Paru P — Google review

Fun pool with slide $3 per person cute park, pond, playground and train to ride for the littles.
Steele S — Google review
The park is very nice for walking, exercising, family and friends gatherings. I especially like the park in the fall. I've never been here in the summer or winter, but I see that there's a swimming pool and an event pavilion in the park.
Paulina S — Google review
Beautiful park around a lake with many small shelters to rent for birthday parties and well maintained bathrooms and playgrounds. Google maps needs updating as it led me to a closed access road. The park could use a little more signage directing to various shelters from back entrance.
Deanna W — Google review
We had a lot of fun! Google maps didn't take us close to this playground though, so be careful. We had to search around for it. It took us in to the dog park/skate park area, but this playground is in a completely different entrance. Look for the big lake with ducks and geese (you can see the Royal gas station) and then look up on the hill above the fitness area. That's where you'll find the playground next to a large building. There was a winter bathroom open which was great. The toilets don't have seats though, so if you have any mobility difficulties, you'll want to use a bathroom elsewhere.

Well worth visiting to view the art of glassblowing, to participate in the art and/ or to purchase any of their beautiful hand made glass pieces. A gem of a facility.
Pam S — Google review
We did the glass blowing experience and it was really great! They also ship once the piece we made is cool which is great. We also picked up some pieces from the shop. Definitely a place to visit in Staunton and the girl at the counter who was great, told us the whole backstory of the shop which we loved!
Michael S — Google review
I had an amazing time at Staunton Glassblowing Studio! As someone visiting from Estonia, this was a completely new experience for me. The staff was friendly and explained the process in a way that it made it interesting. As I was passing by I didn’t try to shape molten glass, but it was an option there. I did enjoy watching the professionals work: the level of skill and detail is incredible. Highly recommend this place if you want to try something unique and hands-on or just look at amazing glass.
Krister-Martin H — Google review
This experience was absolutely amazing! The gallery section is gorgeous, and the ladies working the front were very courteous and friendly. The blacklist glowing glassware was extremely well made as well. Inside, we got a few demonstrations of the glass blowing process as well! The man creating was very informative, and the entire process was fascinating. I plan on coming back in the future to check out more of their awesome store!
Ian F — Google review
We had been before to look around. They have some very beautiful locally produced glass art. Not cheap, but beautiful. Some pieces are affordable, don't get me wrong, but, it is handmade, each piece really one of a kind. This trip we booked ahead to blow our own piece. You can do a single piece, an ornament or a pumpkin, or for a little more, do it as a couple. We did a pumpkin as a couple. They give you a few choices of color for the pumpkin and for the stem. You "work" from behind the gate in the viewing area, while the real artist "gathers" the first load of glass on the rod, gets it to the table to "marver" it, "gathers" a bigger lump of glass, "marvers" it again, adds your chosen color, melts that in, "marvers", gives it a puff of air to start the process, puts it in the mold to add the ridges, then attaches the hose to allow us to blow. She guides us with how much air as she keeps the piece turning to keep it round and forms the top and dimples the bottom. Once we get it to the right size, she heats it again, removes it from the rod, "gathers" more glass, shapes it, and puts the stem on, then shows us our "finished" piece. It has to go in the "Annealer" overnight to cool properly without shattering. The next day you can go back to collect your prize, or they will ship it to you. Look, in reality, they do most of the work, but you did participate, you learned how it all works, and you take home a piece you are going to proudly display and say you blew, which, you technically did. I think it is a great idea, it only takes 10-15 minutes, and gives you a unique, personalized souvenier. Whether you do it alone or as a couple, it is a great way to visit their shop. You generally do need to book in advance. And, as my employer did a last minute "all hands meeting", we had to call the day before and they moved our time slot to another open one.
Christopher O — Google review
This was an amazing shop and an even cooler experience! My wife and I an ornament, can’t wait to hang it in December!!
Zachariah M — Google review
This is a yearly stop when we vacation in Massanutten, VA. The glass items that they sell there are beautiful. And today make it even more interesting, they have glassblowers on site! You can sit and watch the skill that it takes to turn a molten blob of glass into a work of art! The glassblower will answer your questions and explain what he is doing while turning this blob into a piece of art.

December 10, 2024 - A very special store which connects the customer shopping experience with a loved family member or friend . . . Gift of the heart! ❤️😃👍🏼 My wife & I are new to the Staunton area, and happened to find this family owned “treasure of toys & games” ! Everyone who’s looking for a special gift for a certain loved one . . . Take an hour or two to wonder into Santa’s playground for kids of all ages! You’ll need the time to browse through all the “ nooks & crannies” ! Thanks to owners Susan ( Mom) & Erin Blanton ( daughter) who operate Pufferbellies, since 2006 ! The name comes from the old steam engine circa early 1800’s . . . it “ puffs & toots” as it rolls down the rail tracks. The name changes a bit to “Puffing Billy” as Australia’s steam engine circa 1900. The store front retains its original door frames, windows, and trim . . . in downtown Staunton near the train depot. There’s parking, and easy walking to this beautifully renovated toy store! They offer complimentary gift wrapping! Their website is very helpful : ( can search) *Outdoor toys & games *Do - It - Yourself kits *Books *Arts & Crafts *Active Play games *Building & Construction *Age appropriate toys & games *Puzzles & Games *STEM & Science Activities *Imagination Play *Online ordering & Shipping * Newsletter I think I need to go again before Christmas! Still time to wonder through this amazing Playland for more gifts ! Thank you Susan & Erin for your delightful treasure in Staunton! ❤️👍🏼😃

I was blown away by this toy store. So helpful. In person and over the phone. Great assortment of toys and games and a range of prices. Free gift wrapping and the famous Pufferbelly key to keep kids coming back. One of the best shopping experiences I’ve ever had. This is how a business should be run.

This store is absolutely amazing. So many fabulous, well-made toys!! And the staff are so helpful and friendly. I live in northern VA, but I won’t drive past Staunton without stopping here now. I have been twice now and both times the lovely older woman (my age and a grandma too) has shown me the perfect gift ideas for my grands, telling me why they are developmentally appropriate and the various things each toy can do. So incredibly helpful. Best toy store EVER!!!
Diane B — Google review
I’ve been a loyal customer of this toy store for over 11 years, and it truly feels like one of the happiest parts of Staunton! Every time I walk through the door, I’m greeted with smiles, kindness, and genuine care that makes this so much more than a store, it’s part of our community. One of my favorite things is how easy they make life: I can call and say, “I need a gift for a 6-year-old, here’s my budget,” and they somehow find the perfect present, wrap it beautifully, and have it waiting for me! That’s service you just don’t find anywhere else. They know my children by name, they’re thoughtful in every interaction, and they brighten my day every single time. Staunton is lucky to have them, and I’m so grateful they’re in my hometown!

Great toy store here in Staunton. Lots of cool stuff for children of all ages. We met the owner. She grew up and is from Staunton. She is very nice. This is an awesome place to take a kid shopping, especially on his or her birthday! There is plenty of parking here, which is nice…

I have nothing but good things to say about this cute little toy store. Firstly their customer service is amazing. One of the staff saw me with my arms overloaded with items and gave me a basket. We had some minor issues at check out but they quickly resolved it, and unfortunately a couple of my items were not placed in my bag. When I realized, I called them and they immediately took down my address and mailed the items to me at no extra charge. Secondly, their selection of toys is truly exceptional. You can find something for everyone, be it board games, puzzles, books, the cutest selection of stuffed animals and all the best toys. I love this store. Cannot recommend them enough.

Located in a historic rail depot with a classic tavern vibe, Depot Grille in Staunton, Virginia celebrates the city's history. The restaurant features a 40-foot bar from the luxury Ten Eyck Hotel in Albany and offers a variety of drinks including wine, beer, classic cocktails, and unique concoctions like the mochatini. The menu includes appetizers such as wings, skins, ahi tuna sashimi, fried calamari, and steamed spiced shrimp.
What an amazing place from the atmosphere of an old train station, such history and ambience to the incredible wooden floors, expensive bar and dining room tables. The service by Sarah was awesome and super friendly! Happy hour from 4 PM until 7 PM. Had a wide variety of snacks to pick from and I ordered the potato skins for six dollars and it consisted of three giant baked potatoesloaded with bacon and cheese. There are plenty of leftovers for later. I ordered the smothered chicken with bacon and cheddar and mushrooms, paired up with a garden salad and broccoli and everything was cooked to perfection and very fresh. This place is a gem!

Cool spot! Sat at the bar and ordered the crab dib to start. It was pretty good. My boyfriend got steak medallions with mushrooms as a side and said they were fantastic. I got the prime rib and baked potato. Prime rib came out cold but was perfect when they brought it back out. Baked potato is as expected. All in all, great experience!
Daniela C — Google review
The place is nice enough and the staff is friendly. Then comes the food…. Basic menu and the waitress has never tried the burger?? Tried the crab dip which came flanked with the crackers found in the Keebler trio box. At least warm up some Nan or Syrian. Order the mushroom and Swiss burger medium since the waitress said it’s pink. Came out grey and dry. At least the Coke was cold.

We visited with another couple - so this is a group effort: 1. Burger was good 2. Smothered chicken was good, green beans were mushy/overcooked 3. Steak special was cooked good, lacked flavor. Came with an over- abundance of potatoes 4. Chicken parm was good

The food was ok. The service is overall great. One of our drink, mermaid, was super sweet. Our steak was a bit overcooked and dried. The salmon was one of the best parts of our meal. The pecan pie is ok ( per mu partner - i didn't eat it ) Plenty of seat and they do not take reservation.

Food is absolutely delicious and well presented. I had the prime rib and my wife had salmon. Both were excellent. Entrance for older people is difficult if you have trouble with steps.

We were in town for my daughter’s wedding and randomly picked your restaurant. From the greetings we received to the ambiance of the restaurant our dinner was perfect. Sam our waitress made the experience exceptional. She patiently answered a lot of questions about the food, described menu items in a way that made you not want to miss out on them. She was very attentive to our needs of a party of 8 including two toddlers. The food was delicious. Couldn’t have been a more perfect way to start our weekend in Staunton.

Sooooooo creamy, so delicious, not too sweet and just the right amount for dessert. Imo, the pistachio and the espresso biscotti were amazing. :)

So, I had just had a big lunch before I walked by this shop. One look at the flavors and I had to go inside to see it for myself. The decor was like a 50's ice cream parlor. The case had so many amazing fluffy gelato and sorbets flavors to choose from. The staff were friendly enough to let us try as many flavors as it took until we chose the right flavor. I will add this into the rotation of stops when visiting Staunton. Fair prices and amazing flavors!

We seriously love The Split Banana! They’ve got so many fun and tasty flavors—it’s hard to pick just one. Every time we go, we try something new and it never disappoints. Their waffle cones are amazing—super fresh and crispy, and they make everything taste even better. Big fans of the nondairy options too! It’s awesome that they have great choices for everyone, and they actually taste incredible. The outdoor seating is a nice bonus. It’s such a chill spot to hang out, especially on a nice day. If you haven’t been yet, definitely check it out. It’s one of our go-to dessert places!

A great stop on a rainy day. Reasonably priced, very kind people, cute place.

We were told that we needed to try the ice cream here if we were to stop by Staunton! We visited yesterday and really enjoyed our Split Banana Co. ice cream! I enjoyed a scoop of their Coffee Toffee and Pistachio ice creams!

I've had a lot of ice cream places, but most of them seem to somehow stand out, and split banana is no exception. They had so many deliciously sounding flavors and the person who served us was polite. I would recommend this place to others.

Nature & Parks
Montgomery Hall Park in Staunton, VA is a community park offering a variety of activities for visitors. The park features woodland trails, sports fields, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. Additionally, it boasts tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, softball fields, disc golf courses, pickleball courts and mountain bike trails. Nature Ridge Natural Playground provides a unique experience with all-natural materials for climbing and playing.
We were here to play a round of disc golf and thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was a good mix of wooded and open holes, was well kept, and with multiple basket placements was challenging enough for those with some experience but approachable for those earlier into their disc golf enjoyment. Definitely a course we will be back to when we are in the area.

Lots of great walking trails with heaps of wildflowers. It was refreshing to see so many people walking their dogs and not seeing any dog poop anywhere in the park.

Great spot for a shady picnic, running up and down the hill, and nature play. Playground is great for bigger kids, but younger kids did better in the shaded nature playground/story walk area. Sand pit there has some trucks and pots and pans. A little run down/well-loved, but it’s outside and to be expected.

Beautiful, clean, safe Three story playground with three huge slides, tire swing, several rope climbing options, pool, swing set, sandbox, balance obstacles, rock climbing wall... picnic bench, merry-go-round, monkey bars, educational and creative play-set area for younger children... it was a beautiful time here.

This is a fantastic park that has both a traditional playground and a natural playground. There are several grassy areas with beautiful trees. There is a disc golf course, pavilions at the top with grassy areas and trees, and a few lovely hiking trails. Just make sure you pay attention to the trail map as it is easy to get lost.

The establishment specializes in serving up mouthwatering steaks, seafood, pastas, ribs, and an array of Southern classics alongside new American, Mexican, and Italian dishes. Amazing restaurant. Robin was so kind and gave me all I need. Rib is delicious, great balance between juiciness and tenderness. My personal preference would be St. Louis sauce rib, still baby back rib is great. Would visit again if I get a chance. Got complimentary bread before the meal and nice peppermint ice cream as a desert.

Really good meal and service. We had the duck and lasagna. The side salads were excellent, as was dinner. Starting with homemade bread with an amazing maple walnut butter and ending with complementary peppermint ice cream. Yum!

Tonight's dinner was at Mill Street Grill in Staunton, VA! The lights were a bit dim, so the picture quality isn't the best. The bread is always tasty and is free. It had pumpkin butter on the side. I had one of their specials! I had their barbecued beef ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and collards! They are known for their ribs here and also their prime rib. The sauce was nice and caramelized as advertised and really good. The beef ribs were super tender and delicious! No complaints at all. If you are in the area, swing by! You also get a little free peppermint ice cream for dessert.

Poor quality food. Mediocre service. Overpriced. $138 for two (one shared appetizer, two entrees, one beer). I had shrimp and chicken pesto pasta. The whole meal was swimming in grease and tasteless. I'm pretty sure had I eaten it, it would've passed straight through. Yuck. Mrs H had $50 lamb cutlets that were served cold, and pretty tasteless. They came in some type of brown sauce with vegetables, but swimming in water rather than grease. These meals were on the "specials" menu, so "chef" should've been able to cook these well. I raised the issues, and our server just said "sorry for the food". I'm left with the impression that this place thrives on passing crowds, and little competition in Staunton. I cannot recommend this restaurant That said Taste of India just round the corner is brilliant, and half the price.

I had the vegetable plate. My daughter had the tortellini and my husband had the steak. Everything was excellent and cooked to perfection. Our waitress was the best. I wish I could remember her name.

Had the burger and was able to swap out the sides and have garlic mashed potatoes instead... I'm very happy about that. Loved the bread - 3 breads in one pot with apple cinnamon butter. The burger was average, but big points because they served it rare like I asked❤️. The booth cushions were super comfy. Our server was just right. Got there at 5pm on a Monday and had no wait, but there were lots of people waiting by the time we finished up.

Shenandoah Pizza is a laid-back pizzeria and taproom in Staunton, Virginia. It's known for its specialty pies and diverse selection of global beers, as well as weekend live music. Located on Beverly Street, this spot is a must-visit when in Staunton. The kitchen offers a round for $10 to show appreciation for their hard work. The general tsao wings are highly recommended, and the personal-sized pizza is quite filling.
We stumbled upon Shenandoah Pizza by chance, and we’re so glad we did! We ordered a large pizza, half cheese, half pepperoni, and it was fantastic—the sauce had great flavor, and all five of us loved it. We also tried the fried pickles, which were perfectly crispy, and the spicy ranch dip took them to the next level. The cheese fries were amazing, with just the right amount of cheese and served with their delicious house-made ranch—definitely a must-try! Our waitress was incredibly friendly and welcoming, even bringing out paper and crayons for the kids, which was such a nice touch. The tables were a little small, but we managed to make it work without any issues. The atmosphere was great, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we’d definitely come back again!

We had a great meal at Shenandoah pizza and tap house. For the price, it is probably the best pizza downtown. To be fair, there is more pizza to try, I'm sure, but I will be hitting up this menu again soon! The pizza we ordered was thick with cheese and toppings. The sauce was good, as well as the crust. We had a medium Wright's pizza with an order of cheese fries to start. The fries are waffle style and well cheesed and seasoned. A little over cooked for my personal taste, but the flavor made up for that bit. The inside was nice with plenty of seating, even a second level of seating. The gals and guy who took care of our order were fast and friendly even bringing our dog a bowl of water. That's right, outside dog friendly seating on the weekends! If your in staunton looking for good pizza and a cold beer, check out Shenandoah pizza!

This pizza joint is fantastic! I loved how the menu was organized by different base sauces. Everything we ordered was perfect (see the pictures). The pizza dough was definitely the highlight of the meal. The service was friendly, though a bit less attentive than I would have liked. I definitely plan to return and try more pizza flavors, yumm! 😋

I had not been here in a year but I used stop in several times per year. I was asked to go to the Harry Potter event and we went on Sunday because of the rain the day before. After a long day of running and then the festival we went here for dinner. Some pizza and a few beers was very much needed. The menu was not what I remembered but I believe it was adjusted for the event. Good food and yes, beers was a nice close for the day. At $30 or more per pie and drinks it added up but no regrets. Very laid back atmosphere and staff that had to be exhausted. I will be back and hopefully the full menu will be as well.

This is a no frills pizzeria. That being said, the pizza was some of the best I've ever had. We've traveled to all the pizza places. New York. Chicago. California. Italy. This was right up at some of the best. Great balance of toppings sauce and cheese. Sauce is seasoned really really well. Highly recommend. We will be back

My and a group of clients for my company went to this restaurant for thier outing. When we got there, the menu prices online did not match the ones on the menu in person. Especially for appetizers. In addition to this, the food was average(not bad itself) but the prices were exorbantly high for the quality/qualtity of food. The restaurant charged us $12/6 ct of mozzorella sticks, 22 dollars base for make your own pizza.*website said 18. and 3.75/topping regardless of if its meat or veggies. In addition to this, we did not receive a itemized receipt for our tab, when the server asked for our card. I had to call the restaurant to get it. When I reviewed the bill were were charged a "service fee" of 22.20 cents. We also were only a party of four people. NOT SIX like the restaurant stated on its website. We were not informed of this "fee". In addition to this, the so called receipt that the restaurant gave us had the NERVE to ask for a tip. Due to the service fee(unbeknownst to us) we ended tipping around 42 dollars in free money. When we bascially got ignored after we paid the tab when we needed items such as drink refills to-go and drink covers. Our group would have saved more money going to texas roadhouse ordering steak dinners for four rather than going here. We will NEVER frequent this establishment again. People should not be overpaying for mid-grade food and service.

Excellent pizza, amazing service, and the atmosphere was so nice! We sat upstairs and everything was simple but nice. The couple that owns it are really nice as well! Wasn’t too pricey either. This was our first time and we will definitely be coming back.

That was by far the best pizza I've had in longer than I can remember. They have outside seating in you want or you can eat inside the beautiful old restaurant, the service and server were also excellent. Very reasonably priced. Nestled in the charming town of Staunton, The Camera Heritage Museum is a treasure trove for photography lovers and history buffs alike. This captivating museum offers self-guided tours that take you through an impressive collection of around 6,000 vintage cameras, showcasing the evolution of photography from the early 19th century to modern times. Many of these remarkable pieces come from private collections and carry fascinating stories that highlight their historical significance.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this gem of a museum. The museum's collection is incredibly impressive and the history behind the cameras, prints, and priceless daguerreotypes is so fascinating. The collection of miniatures was among my favorite to view. This beautiful collection and history is a must see and well worth a visit. ☺️

A wonderful walkthrough of camera history. We had an excellent discussion with the owner, David, who is deeply knowledgeable from both his life experiences in the industry and from curating this staggering and magnificent collection of historical cameras. It's well worth your time to visit for an hour or more.

With only 20% of the museums collection you still get to experience so much history in this amazing place, the history of cameras throughout many significant events in American, Virginia history and the world! Take the curated experience when you come! You can tell the passion this man has for preserving and enlightening anyone interested in photography and the history of photography, worth it a must when visiting! They accept donations and are looking to expand!

Amazing museum, featuring one of kind cameras from history’s biggest moments. This is a must see for any history or camera lover. Dave is truly one of the most knowledgeable historians of cameras. I’m glad I finally got to check the museum out. I choose to do the self guided tour so I could go back and listen to the information over again. I ended up spending hour and a half maybe longer in the museum but allow yourself more time cause this museum is 50+ years of hard work and dedication to the preservation of one of greatest art forms ever created. I wish I could’ve stayed longer! If you can donate to this non profit and help them secure a new bigger location which will hold even more history! Thank you again everything!

My visit to The Camera Heritage Museum was a camer-awesome! The sheer amount of history within this little place is incredible. The curator was a very kind, interesting man as well. He gave us great context that really fleshed out what it was we were looking at. A picture is worth a thousand words, but being there in person is another experience all together. Definitely go and visit!
Blake — Google review
Really impressive collection with a comprehensive history. Definitely worth the visit for anyone interested in photography. David is super knowledgeable; it is clear he is passionate about the work. I spent more time than I initially thought, so much to see! I would have appreciated more gender inclusion and diversity in the provided historical narrative; pioneers such as Dorothea Lange, Margaret Bourke-White, Diane Arbus, Gordon Parks, and Imogen Cunningham could have easily been included. I was surprised there was no mention of the above trailblazers. Their impact in shaping the photo industry is just as profound, if not more, than that of all of the men mentioned, and without their contributions represented, the story feels incomplete.
Moriah R — Google review
My partner & I visited the Camera Museum back in July and agreed it was a highlight of our stay. We were so glad that we asked the owner to give us a guided tour as we only would have had a fraction of the context and details without his guidance. We came away with a much better understanding of the history of photography and a greater appreciation for the technology of cameras. I disagree with the customer who did not like the questioning part of the tour. I found it kept me engaged and helped me to track the history. Delightful time!

Bakery
Reunion Bakery & Espresso is a charming spot in downtown Staunton, offering a delightful selection of locally-sourced French-inspired baked goods and fine espresso. The skilled baristas are dedicated to creating the perfect cup of coffee, using only the finest beans from local roasters. Their delectable pastries, baked fresh daily, add a touch of sweetness to your coffee break. Visitors rave about their divine croissants and other freshly baked treats.
Reunion Bakery & Espresso, in downtown Staunton, is a standout example of focused execution done right. Built on the principles of craftsmanship and simplicity, the space blends French-inspired technique with a local, grounded sensibility. Whether you’re there for the coffee, pastries, or house-made breads, what you’ll get is intentional, high-quality product—nothing overdone, nothing generic. 🥐 Pastry Program – Laminated, Buttery, and Irresistible Reunion’s pastry case sets the tone immediately. You’re not just looking at baked goods—you’re looking at technique: flaky layers, perfect lamination, and a balanced use of sweetness. Highlights include: Almond and mocha croissants – rich, deeply layered, and filled with just the right amount of paste or ganache. Cruffins, cinnamon rolls, and chocolate financiers – each baked with a clear sense of control and detail. Every item has a beautiful sheen, proper texture, and the kind of crisp edges and pillowy centers that tell you the bakers care. This isn’t mass-production pastry. It’s small-batch, with depth of flavor and form that reflects a European backbone adapted to a local kitchen. 🍞 Bread Program – Rustic Sourdough and Whole-Grain Focus The bread program at Reunion is equally deliberate. They focus on naturally leavened sourdough, using local flours and ancient grains. Their porridge loaf—made with a mix of spelt, whole wheat, rye, and white flour, coated in seeds—is a perfect example of bread that’s not just good—it’s nourishing, complex, and deeply satisfying. These loaves have real crust, structured crumb, and a hearty flavor. They’re not trying to be soft sandwich bread—they’re designed to stand up to real meals or be savored on their own. ☕ Coffee & Espresso – Thoughtful and On Point The coffee program doesn’t try to be a third-wave spectacle, but it’s clean, consistent, and flavorful. Their drip coffee is strong without being bitter, and their espresso drinks—especially the mocha—are dialed in with balanced texture and intensity. They serve beans from respected regional roasters and execute at a level that pairs perfectly with their food. No gimmicks, just proper coffee. You get the sense that everything is built to support the baked goods. Nothing distracts—everything complements. ✅ Final Take Reunion Bakery & Espresso isn’t trying to be trendy, broad, or overly social. It’s dialed in. If you care about how croissants are laminated, how dough is fermented, and how espresso is pulled, this place checks all the right boxes. The space is small, the menu is tight, and the results are some of the best pastry and bread in the region. Worth the detour. Worth the early arrival. Worth coming back to. It’s that good.
Ravi S — Google review
The vibe is pretty good, and the staff are also friendly. There’s not much indoor sitting but a few outdoor sitting. The focaccia bread is oily and hard, which I don’t recommend. The ice latte is okay. Their other bread options and pastries look nice, but we didn’t try it.
Y.C. W — Google review
Reunion Bakery is pure cozy magic. The pumpkin cheesecake cruffin was straight-up perfection — flaky, creamy, and just the right amount of fall nostalgia without feeling basic. You bite in and it’s all layers of buttery pastry meeting that spiced pumpkin cheesecake filling — total masterpiece. The shelves are lined with gorgeous sourdough loaves that look like they belong in an art gallery. Every loaf feels like it has its own personality — rustic, tangy, beautiful. It’s one of those spots where you walk in for a pastry and walk out planning your next visit. Absolute must.

Shout out to Reunion Bakery! Woke up at 6:30am on Easter morning to the hotel fire alarm going off, and after standing there for nearly an hour they gave us the all clear, but I couldn’t fall back asleep but saw that Reunion would be opening at 8. So, I walked over to get in line before they opened but it turns out having a road full of people out front prompted them to open early! They were super kind to every person in line, the pastries I got were INCREDIBLE (attached a picture of the lemon cruffin) and the lavender latte I got was perfect. We always make it a priority to go here when we visit and this shows why.

Simply gorgeous. So cozy and tasty. I got the slice of bacon and cheddar quiche. It was served room temp I think. Not hot. But still tasty. I wanna try so much here. It all looks well crafted. Layer microwaved the quiche and that definitely ruined the texture. Before it was velvety smooth, then afterwards it was like scrambled eggs. Definitely enjoy it the way they give it to you.
Brittany W — Google review
This is a quaint little bakery, easy to miss, but it has the best pastries I've ever had, except for maybe Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC and Un je ne sais Quoi in DC. Like those two, it has a "proprietary" pastry. It's called a "cruffin", and is a combination of a croissant and a muffin (surprise!) Honestly, it's not as good as a Cronut but it travels a lot better, which is great for long drives in Shenandoah NP and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Like all the best bakeries, it has good coffee. It has a few sidewalk tables, and even a bit of merch! The only problems are, it can run out early and has short operating hours, and it's too far away from my house. The last time I went, they were out of practically everything because I got there so late. It's definitely worth a stop, even if you don't want to spend time in Staunton.

We got there at 10:00 till 8:00 and there was already a line that tells you how good this place is. The kish and ham Sandwich was excellent. The honey cinnamon scones were Devine. Great food, Great service, Great location! highly recommend this place.

While taking a walk about town on this beautiful Saturday my husband and our friend Staunton City Councilman Jeff Overholtzer stopped by Reunion for a bite. While having coffee at a nice outside table they ordered the bacon and cheese quiche and I was so glad my husband brought me a piece as well! They recommended reheating in the oven and not the microwave. It came out just like it was fresh and was so delicious. By far the best quiche I ever had! The portion was sizeable at 2" thick, 5" long and 3" wide. That was too much for me in one sitting , but the good news is I get to have another piece later. We have also had their croissants that are equally as delicious and sizeable. We moved to Staunton two years ago but actually live on the outskirts in the county, but are conveniently located only minutes from downtown. We highly recommend Reunion as a quaint place to visit.

Embark on a nostalgic journey through the Appalachian Mountains and valleys aboard the Virginia Scenic Railway, a classic 1940s passenger train car. The picturesque views of the Shenandoah Valley unfold like a breathtaking painting, offering an elegant adventure back in time. The friendly staff ensures a memorable experience, with delicious food and generous portions adding to the charm.
What a lovely ride through the countryside. We headed west out of Staunton going to Goshen and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We opted for lunch in the dining car and were very pleased with our choice. Lunch was catered and excellent. The potato soup was thick and very tasty. My husband had the wedge salad with chicken and said it was also delicious. The historical tidbits were interesting and added to the trip. Great day all around. Definitely recommend and I think our next venture will be a murder mystery excursion.

We climbed aboard the Blue Ridge Flyer 🚂 to experience the thrill of roaring through the Blue Ridge Tunnel! The dining experience featured pre-ordered meals prepared by Lil Gus’s in Grottoes, VA. We chose turkey panini sandwiches 🥪 with cream cheese 🍮 and apple pie 🥧 for dessert. Our sandwiches were slightly warmed and served with coleslaw that was a tad too soggy. We both packed our desserts to go, and I genuinely enjoyed the cream cheese pie 🥧 and half of my panini sandwich 🥪, which I took home too. It wasn’t as bad hot! Ben, our server, had just two weeks of experience and could definitely spruce up his uniform 🥋 with some ironing or dry cleaning for a more polished look, especially since he mentioned they made good money and tipping wasn’t required. Presentation means everything to me! The train car was clean and the journey lasted approximately three hours, but it could have been more soothing with a diverse selection of music 🎼. Please, please download a playlist with progressive tunes to play softly between the pre-recorded historical messages! 🎶✨ Lastly, Tim, the bartender, was attentive, and surprisingly, all non-alcoholic drinks are at no additional cost! 🥤🙌 Overall, I recommend the Blue Ridge Flyer. I’m giving it three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ because the dining car was not as upscale as I had imagined for $120, simply overly pricey. Maybe 🤔 I’ll try coach class $65, next time to see if I can improve the rating! 🌟😊

🌟 A Truly Unforgettable Ride! 🌟 Our trip on the Virginia Scenic Railway was absolutely magical from start to finish! The scenery was breathtaking — rolling mountains, vibrant foliage, and that nostalgic charm that makes you slow down and just enjoy the moment. But what really made the experience shine was the people. Mike, Gina, and Tim were outstanding — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making every guest feel special. Their friendliness and professionalism turned a beautiful train ride into something truly memorable. And let’s talk about the food — all prepared by Lil Guss! Every bite was delicious, fresh, and clearly made with love. It’s not every day you get to enjoy such high-quality dining while watching Virginia’s landscapes glide by your window. From the service to the atmosphere, everything was top-notch. We can’t wait to go again — and we’ll definitely be recommending Virginia Scenic Railway (and especially Lil Guss, Mike, Gina, and Tim!) to everyone we know. 🚂✨

If looking at trees blocking the scenic view is what you want, do this. All the other reviews with nice pictures, be quick to take them. You do get like a total of 5 minutes of good pictures. Wish I could have seen the mountains better. Staff is great. We did the dining cart but not worth the $120 per person. For paying the elite package, we got boarded on last with a handicap person in the group. There’s no thoughtful organization on how you board on. Also the train engine broke down on the return trip. Over 2 hours to get a replacement.

Decided to try the train dining experience with my family. My whole family loved it! Awesome service from the staff and hosts. The food was incredible, which included lunch and dessert. The train ride was nice and very informative, with the tour voice on the overhead speakers. Hosts were very polite and easy to talk to. Will definitely book again.

What a great time! What made the trip worthwhile was the company! The windows were a bit dirty so the scenery was not the best. But... the nostalgia, our boothmate sisters Catherine and Cindy, the Buckingham Branch Railway President Steve, and the railway transportation staff gave the 698 people who traveled with us a trip to remember! We highly recommend the experience 👌 Looking to relax for 3.5 hours, take the train ride!

Late review from September 7th. My wife and I really enjoyed the entire experience: the show, the food and the scenery all came together to create a great afternoon. The murder mystery took some interesting turns and the actors did a great job keeping us engaged. After the performance the actors came out sans costumes to greet us all and answer any questions/curiosities. Shoutout to Mike and Kelsie (sp?), who did a terrific job taking care of the cabin. They were hustling the entire time.

Rode the westward Allegheny Special today. Wonderful experience. Great staff and clean environment. Views were good and there were some narrations about the places/landmarks we were riding past which I enjoyed. Spent about $137 for each ticket for the upper dome car class. We were provided lunch (for a fee) and a complimentary bag of chips, a cookie, sodas/water, and drinking glass souvenir. Beer, cider, and wine were an additional $6-$12 charge. I also liked that the seats were rotated when the train changed direction so we didn’t have to ride backwards.

Located in Staunton, Virginia, this museum offers a fascinating glimpse into both the paranormal and historic aspects of the area. In addition to its well-preserved fire apparatus and artifacts, visitors can also enjoy personal tours conducted by knowledgeable guides Adam and Frank at the fire station.
Excellent small museum. Well worth the walk out of town. Stanley was extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming. Very interesting to learn the history and evolution of the local fire service and see what has and has not changed.

Exactly what a local museum should be. This museum is in the same building as the local fire department. They have a steam engine fire truck, which is only two of its kind left in the entire country. The other is supposedly in Arizona. A local fireman was nice enough to show my family and me the history and traditions on display. Really excellent.

Really good museum and a superb example of an early fire engine and other appliances. Thank you Brian for giving us your time, answering questions and explaining about the various exhibits and about the modern fire service.

Very cool to see the antique fire truck. There was a very knowledgeable guy there who invited us in and told us a lot of the history of the fire truck and the fire department.

This is an impressive piece of antique fire fighting equipment that is worth seeing. Keep in mind it's kept in an active firehouse.

My son had so much fun talking with "a REAL firefighter," which he has said numerous time was so special. We learned about the old fire engine - and a new one, and the firefighter gave my son a little fire helmet that he's been wearing ever since. He says it makes him feel like a real fire fighter. The fire fighter who talked with us was so kind and patient and told my son to come back with a job application when he gets older. My 4-year-old son has been going around saying he's got a "job opportunity" haha We're doing a fire this evening since it's cooler today, and my son keeps saying wants to practice putting out a real fire. The place was great and that we got to talk with a real firefighter as he showed us around made it extra special and encouraged my son's engagement in learning. Highly recommend!

Sears Hill Bridge stands as a cherished icon in Staunton, connecting the vibrant wharf district to the tranquil Woodrow Park. This recently restored pedestrian bridge features durable black locust steps designed for longevity, ensuring minimal maintenance for years to come. As you stroll across this charming structure, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of downtown Staunton and the nearby railroad tracks. It's an ideal spot for both bridge enthusiasts and those seeking picturesque scenery.
Cute little bridge built on the train station below that provides access to the amazing views from Sears Hill. Definitely recommend stopping by here if you're a bridge lover and happen to be in Staunton, or if you just like scenic views.

Recently renovated with black locust steps. They took the time to round the front edges! The use of black locust lumber should allow the steps to last 50-100 years without any wood preservative. Very good move as this makes it maintenance-free! One end of the pedestrian bridge is the back of the Wharf district. The other end is in Sears Hill Park (aka Woodrow Park.)

Love seeing and being able to walk across historic bridges like this. Great views from the bridge and overlook just a short distance past the bridge.
Wayne J — Google review
I love this bridge and cross it many times a week, but the city is failing atrociously at the upkeep. This bridge was restored less than ten years ago, but was never weather-sealed. Now there are a dozen or so large holes where the wood has rotted away, and the city has done nothing but patch the holes with metal sheets (which become unstable as the wood they’re bolted into continues to rot). This bridge is quickly becoming a safety hazard, and a lawsuit waiting to happen. Given that Staunton relies heavily on tourist revenue, and that this historic bridge connects a historic park and a historic train station, not to mention historic downtown Staunton, it makes NO SENSE to allow it to rot away in this manner. Plus it’s just sad. It’s a beautiful bridge, and it should be maintained properly.

Zynodoa Restaurant is a modern Southern eatery and bar located in a historic building in downtown Staunton. It's known for its upscale urban decor and commitment to using locally-sourced, farm-to-table ingredients. The restaurant prides itself on serving meats from the Shenandoah Valley and the Piedmont area, as well as sustainably sourced fish and seafood from Chesapeake Bay.
I was in Staunton for the New Year and my date and I decided we should treat ourselves and grab dinner here to celebrate. It was a spectacular choice to say the least! As you can see by the menu and pics we got to try nearly everything on the tasting menu and got to try the wine pairing as well. Absolutely incredible food as well as service. It was a perfect way to end 2024 and a decision I was glad we made. I highly recommend trying this place out when you're in town!

Ate here for a birthday dinner, great fresh food! Service was on point and friendly. I would encourage a reservation as I saw many guests get told they are fully booked. On a great street with lots of local stores snd restaurants. The soup was delicious, salad was colorful and flavorful. Had local pork for the entree and enjoyed that, it was served with 3 ways. Draft beer was cold, I would recommend. Kids had pasta with butter and cheese and ate it all. Cornbread was really good, moist with crispy edges. Loaf of French bread was

If you’re in Staunton, you must try this place! It’s best to have a reservation but if you don’t mind waiting, you will get a table. We walked in on a Sunday evening and had to wait about 10 mins at the bar. We were seated soon enough and chose to go for the ala carte. They also had a chef’s tasting menu, jfyi. For the appetiser, we had initially only ordered the potato croquettes, but after the first bite, we decided to go ahead and order the beef tartare as well. 😬 The potato croquettes were flavourful and the beef tartare was soooo good. The combination of the beef tartare paired with the dijon mustard, the baguette, and the sweet pepper was divine!! So delicious!! For entrees, we got the slow roasted chicken and the grilled pork loin. Both were yum — the chicken was tender and tasted simple but soulful and the pork was cooked perfectly and paired very well with the peppers and the sauce. It was such a superb meal — honestly, one of the best I’ve had in a while. It is slightly on the pricier side, but the taste, the ingredients and the whole experience just elevates it and makes it worthwhile. To top it all, their service was top notch. Our server, Sarah, was super sweet and recommended some amazing dishes. :) All in all, I loved the whole experience and I hope to drop by again whenever I’m in Staunton. :)

I had an incredible dining experience at Zynodoa. From start to finish, everything was spot on. The apps were outstanding—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly portioned. The drinks were fantastic, creative, and balanced, with just the right amount of kick. My steak was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor, easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. And to top it all off, the service was absolutely top-notch—attentive, friendly, and seamless throughout the evening. This place really nails it on every level. Can’t wait to come back!

We were excited to try Zyndoa after hearing great things and having it recommended by a friend. The menu was a little different than what we saw online, but that was fine since I like when restaurants switch things up. Service was a bit slow, though our server was very kind. We started with the cornbread, which was excellent. The disappointment came with the steak. We ordered it medium, but it was served raw in the center and even undercooked on the end. We were seated outside, and as it got darker, the small table light wasn’t enough to see just how undercooked it was until we held it directly under the light and even used a phone flashlight. We asked to get it cooked longer, but even after being “cooked longer” it was still raw once we checked it again at home under proper lighting. Unfortunately, it was not edible and really took away from the whole meal. It may have just been an off night, but the steak left us let down. We might give it another try someday, but it will be a while before we return.
Justin H — Google review
Our group had great food my pork was fatty and dry but my steak tartar was delicious. Our drinks and wine were excellent. Our server seemed not as attentive as he should have been. I definitely recommend the resturant.
Jim B — Google review
Honestly, this place is pretty hyped so imagine my disappointment when I make a reservation only to get seated between 2 other couples very tightly and then remained seated and unattended for over 15 minutes. I mean no water, no hello I'll be right with you, nada. Fine, they were busy for a Tuesday. Food arrives and while the pork belly starter was pretty good, it unfortunately was four thinly sliced pieces and all downhill from there. Our server continued the pattern of lengthy attendence, I believe we saw her a total of 3 times in our hour plus of dining, listening to her strings of apologies each time. My partner got the scallops which were cooked single-side and WELL charred, tasting like a burnt log on one side and feeling like gelatin on the other. Received my chicken dish that came across as someone's grandmother's old bland chicken and rice soup recipe. I have never had to reach for the salt at a restaurant of this supposed caliber and here I had to salt my dish three times. If the menu were priced lower I may have less to complain about, but this place takes itself mighty serious for these flaws to be shining through. Not thoroughly upset but I am definitely disappointed in what I thought would be an exciting dining experience. Overall three stars because it was all pretty okay I guess, but I failed to be impressed, and with some other really exciting and impressive options in the area, I would be hard pressed to return.

Awesome place! I have been to countless escape rooms around the country (and even in other countries). This place is one of the better ones that I have been too. Great mix of Gen 1 and Gen 2 locks/puzzles. The puzzles were challenging but fair. The hints were great, when needed. The staff was friendly and were good at being in character for the game. We will certainly return for another room at this place when we are in the area!

Wrights Dairy-Rite is a classic drive-in and dine-in restaurant located at 346 Greenville Ave, Staunton VA. Established in the early 50s, it's a nostalgic spot reminiscent of the sock hop era. The retro booth seating and carhop service make for an authentic experience. You can place your order through a speaker phone from your parking spot or use an old-school telephone at your table if dining inside.
Wright’s Dairy-Rite is such a fun and nostalgic place it truly feels like stepping back into the 1950s! The retro decor, classic diner seats, and even the jukebox playing old, almost forgotten songs really add to the experience. One of the cutest details was how the kids' meals were served in a 1950s-style cruiser box it was such a fun touch! My son got the grilled cheese and liked it, while my daughters had hot dogs and really enjoyed them. My husband ordered the Super Burger and said it was like a Big Mac, but made with fresh meat, which he really liked. I got the third-pound burger, and it was delicious and made with real beef definitely a solid choice. We ordered fries to go with everything, and while they were okay, they weren’t the highlight of the meal. Overall, it was a great experience, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. If you love classic diners and a retro atmosphere, this is definitely a place to check out!

Overall, a fun, retro diner. Service was pleasant, and the atmosphere was fun. I had 2 dogs and fries. The buns were sub-par and seemed a bit stale. The rest of the dog/onions/mustard/chili was enjoyable, as were the fries. But bad bread will ruin any dog or sandwich.

Great place to eat either inside or at your car. They bring your food out to you. We ate inside. Very cool experience. You had to place your order with the phone at your table or booth. The burger was really good. I liked that the bun was toasted. The French were great. I like mine a little crispy and that's how they were. Has the old juke box playing the oldies. We will definitely be going back again soon.

Baja Bean Co is a vibrant cantina chain that offers Mexican classics and tap beers until late at night. The menu features specials and a variety of tacos, including ground beef or shredded chicken options, as well as super tacos with steak, pollo, chorizo, shredded pork or beef and cheese, beer-battered cod, or shrimp.
We had such a great time on 6/16/24. I can’t remember the waitresses name because I am name blind but she was very attentive, easy to understand, and friendly. We had a quesadilla (for the picky eater), street tacos, and a chicken burrito covered with queso. The salsa is different but very good. It’s quite chunky but the veggies melt in your mouth like they’re fermented. I’ve never had salsa like this before but it’s very good so give it a chance. The street tacos are amazing, though I wish it came with a lime wedge. I stole my wife’s lime from her margarita and it was perfect. The rice and black beans are very good. I feel they’re both home made instead of from a can/bag because they taste far more fresh than even an “authentic” Mexican place. She had the queso (chicken) burrito which was quite flavorful and just enough food without being overwhelming. My wife also had a house margarita which was delish, and I had the dr franks which was amazing. I’m a huge fan of espolon tequila, so it was perfect for me. If we’re back in down we will be back to try other menu items. I was shocked when we got the bill and it was only 60$ it’s hard to feed 3 people with couple of excellent drinks for less than 100$ anymore so it was a welcome experience.
Christopher P — Google review
We enjoyed our meals. Chorizo was good. Service a bit inattentive & margaritas came with salt when we asked for none. It does affect the flavor. Interesting that "happy hour" doesn't extend to restaurant patrons, only the cantina area which had no seats available. Complimentary chips & salsa. Nice location, clean inside & would stop again.

Just picked up a to go order lunch just after they opened while visiting some family who lives locally. At least the food came out quick because the whole place reeked of cigarettes . Friendly service !! that’s the only saving grace . Everything had been microwaved or reheated obviously, all dry and tasteless. Rice was undercooked and crunchy. Ordered the three different fajita burritos and tacos . We Couldn’t eat even half of each one of the orders. Such a shame, I knew it wouldn’t be authentic and more Tex than Mex but , just cheese microwaved on top of chicken for a taco and some lettuce thrown on the side ? pretty disappointing.
Claudia P — Google review
This was a last minute stop after a long day shopping and walking downtown Staunton. We had some cold beers and a light dinner. I had steak street tacos and added the beans and rice with their diablo sauce as well as a habanero and carrots sauce. They were not great but not bad either. The others were all fairly happy with their meals as well. The sauces were a great addition if you like flavor and heat. The stand out here was our waitress. Extremely attentive and a very cool demeanor. This was early in the week so not really busy, the bar had the most people and they appeared to be regulars but we were far from ignored. I remember going here for live music years ago and would love to do that again soon. I will go back again so that says enough I hope.

Nice place with inexpensive Mexican food and some vegetarian options. Service was very good at 2:00 in the afternoon. We were 2 vegans so ate the vegetable fajitas with an extra side of guacamole and extra tortillas. The complimentary salsa was delicious with the chips.
Benjamin R — Google review
We found this place on Happy Cow when I was looking for vegan options in Staunton. It looked like they could do a few things with vegan options. But ... most of those couldn't be made gluten free. And since I'm both, it was difficult to find something that worked. Ultimately, working with the woman taking my order, we came up with a bowl with the sauce removed and subbed guacamole for the regular avocado instead. This bowl said that it has quinoa in it on the menu, but I was hard pressed to find any. Because of it having no sauce, it wasn't very flavorful. It could have used some beans of some sort also to bulk of the protein and fiber content so that I was more satiated. Overall, not my favorite find of the trip, but it was better than the alternatives, to which I couldn't really find any. I did appreciate that they tried to find something to fit my dietary restrictions though. So they definitely deserve kudos for that!
Shanah B — Google review
Nice spot if you're in the downtown staunton area. On the weekends, the street is closed down, and local restaurants have outside seating along with seating indoors. It's great if you like to go out and about with your dogs. The waitress was super nice, the food was good, and fairly priced for the area. What more could you want? We had the street tacos and they were super tasty. The salsa was fresh and a little sweet. The honey Diablo sauce was jamming! The inside is nice with plenty of seating. They also have a bar on one side, but we will check it out next time. If your shopping around the many cool stores and feel like a great taco, stop by the Baja bean.

Friendly and attentive Food: from the hush puppies to the tuna steak and chicken pot pie, it was all very good.... no fan of the state/local taxes though. Almost as bad as Canada, but I know it's not the restaurants fault.

The atmosphere and service are excellent. The food was just not great. The grilled haddock sandwich was saturated in grease, to the point that it was difficult to eat. Had a delicious lunch last week on our travels south from New England seeing family. Chowder was hot and filling, salad fresh and tasty, and my husband really enjoyed the fish and chips. Night before we stopped in for drinks and met locals David and Tim at the bar and had a very nice chat and laughs with them. Not only did they tell us we had to eat here, but also made other suggestions to us for shops, etc. in town during our short stay. The highlight of the service is when I realized after our lunch the following day that I left my sweater wrap. When I realized it after we left Staunton, I called and spoke with a delightful Ms Siobhan Beza. She confirmed the wrap was there and that she would personally send it to me via USPS. I received it yesterday with a delightful note from Siobhan and promptly sent her reimbursement for the postal charge. What a great place, super people, great food and outstanding service. If you find yourself in Staunton, VA, make sure to stop by Crucible Coffee Roasters for a delightful coffee experience. This charming café is not just about serving up delicious seasonal lattes and smooth housemade espressos; it also offers an impressive selection of specialty beans. Among the standout options is the Ella blend, which celebrates women producers with its sweet chocolate and tropical notes. For those who prefer something unique during warmer months, their matcha lemonade provides a refreshing twist.
What a wonderful and cute coffee house. The coffee is bagged right there. There is outdoor seating. It is a very picturesque setting outside with a railroad bridge and a stream for the background. The coffee tasted very good and the staff, Kaylee, was very nice. I always try to hit up local shops versus corporate coffee houses if I can.

What a great location and setting. You can tell they took careful thought in the layout of the cafe and seating with plenty of places to sit. You can also watch the roasting happen as you get some work done on their high speed WiFi. But the star was the seasonal drink I tried the perfect balanced drink not too sweet and the coffee really shines through with the perfect extraction and roasting. Plus the waitstaff was so cheerful I was there for awhile getting work done and I just couldn’t stop smiling at the interactions between the baristas and customers. I definitely will make a point to stop in here anytime I’m in town for work.

Luckily I didn't fall all the way through. The police were roping it off after I got bandaged up and we were leaving.

A great spot just above the old train depot to get sweeping views of downtown Staunton. There’s a metal stairway behind the train depot you can take up to the lookout in the park.

A great spot both views wise and location wise. The area is a little hard to find and a bit undersigned but well worth the adventure.

To satisfy your cravings for sweetness, visit Sweet Addie's Waffle Shop for delectable dessert-style Liege waffles. These mouthwatering treats can be adorned with a variety of toppings, including crushed Oreos, mini marshmallows, cannoli cream, and chocolate chips. The shop also offers a savory menu that ingeniously pairs fluffy waffles with fried chicken, gravy, country ham, and even white cheddar mac & cheese.
Sweet Addie’s Waffle Shop made for a perfect brunch date spot for my wife and me. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere struck a charming balance between cozy and modern. Warm lighting, inviting seating, and cheerful staff created a welcoming environment that immediately set the tone for a relaxing spring morning. I ordered the savory Carne Asada waffle, which was both hearty and flavorful. The steak was tender and well-seasoned, paired perfectly with fluffy eggs, melted cheese, fresh pico de gallo, creamy avocado, and a zesty huacatay sauce that brought it all together. A squeeze of lime added the perfect final touch. My wife went the sweet route with Addie’s Fav—an indulgent treat featuring Belgian cookie butter spread over a crisp waffle, topped with strawberries, bananas, a generous swirl of whipped cream, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. It was as delicious as it was beautiful. As we enjoyed our meal, we looked out the window at blooming trees bursting with pink and purple blossoms—an idyllic backdrop for a spring brunch. Sweet Addie’s isn’t just about great waffles; it’s about the experience. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

Unique idea for an all day waffle experience. Nice light coming in. Bar seats are not that comfortable but might be enjoyed by kids! Music is kind of loud. You order, then they call your name. When you are done there is a small room to drop off your plates etc. There is free water. If it feels like a long wait keep in mind they are making it fresh for you. Staff friendly. I would say I thought it was a little high in price but the food was good. Combo meals and specials always a good idea. I think the one waffle we got with Oreos was mostly whipped cream with just a little Oreo, I think it should have more Oreo, or a single Oreo added on top.over the sprinkles. The chicken on that waffle order was great and the flavors were a good combo. The Elvis was great, waffle crunchy which was able to hold the loaded top. There is something for everyone and the ability to customize. It's a great new experience and a nice treat. Salty or Sweet! They have a good location and a great addition to downtown.

The best breakfast place in town. The waffles were absolutely amazing and the service was wonderful. Excited to come back to Staunton just to have breakfast here one more time. Loved it so so much
Amelia A — Google review
Stopped there this morning for breakfast. Were the first customers. Attendant with curly hair was rude and seemed like she couldn't be bothered. Walked around the kitchen touching all surfaces after just placing raw bacon the griddle and not changing her gloves. And with the same raw bacon fingers she pulled my waffle off the maker and then used that same hand to test the temperature of my husband's sausage gravy from the microwave with her glove covered finger. How disgusting! And potentially making a lot of people sick. We left without eating our breakfast in addition it looked like everything was premade except for the waffles which were burnt by the way. Why advertise that meals might take extra time because everything is made fresh. Talk about false advertising! The owners should be ashamed!
T W — Google review
Great concept, great food. But too cramped, understaffed and long wait times. Our order of 3 meals took 40 minutes. There’s no clear “flow” about where to wait after ordering. Staff just simply calls a name and hands food over the counter where others are jostling for coffee, napkins and utensils and others are waiting. It’s very cramped. Music and lighting is bad. The food is good but be prepared to wait, dress for the outdoor overflow seating and prepared to elbow your way to the counter for your food, coffee refills and utensils.
Sam H — Google review
Hands down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. For $14, I got half a waffle and two sad chicken tenders that even Tyson would be embarrassed to be compared to. The food was incredibly bland, like they actively tried to make it flavorless. You don’t even get a plate- just a metal tray to eat off of, which only adds to the cheap, cafeteria feel. We waited 20 minutes for this disappointing “meal” while being blasted with loud, obnoxious pop music the entire time. I’m genuinely confused how this place has any good reviews. I regret every cent spent here.
Oliver — Google review
Really cute downtown spot for breakfast or lunch. Has a small seating area indoors and tables outside in a common area of the blocked off downtown.
J ( — Google review
Walked in and two tables had their food. There was a woman with her young son in front of us. They ordered their food. Then we ordered our food. We sat and waited for about 30 minutes by that time the place was super busy. I waited another 10 minutes, so a total of 40 minutes went up to see what the hold up was. When you have 3 younger children with you including a 2 year old they don't understand waiting on food. Finally got our order. But, didn't get my food. She tried to tell me that was all. I said no we had 5 orders. Finally after waiting 50 minutes I got my meal. This is totally unacceptable. You should never wait more than 20 minutes after you've placed an order. This was my one and only time that I will ever visit this establishment. And no one ever came to us and said your meal will be out nothing. I think I wouldn't have cared much if the meal had been fabulous. But it wasn't the sausage I ordered was a frozen sausage that comes in a pack from the grocery. Never ever again will I visit this place.

Shopping
17 E Beverley Antiques is a charming antique shop with a diverse selection of treasures. The shop offers a mix of items at various price points, from costume jewelry to mid-century hats. The atmosphere is described as wonderful, with the staff sharing interesting stories about the shop's history. Visitors enjoy the feeling of going on a treasure hunt and appreciate the reasonable prices for quality items. The two-story store is filled with nostalgia, offering clothing, housewares, and more.
I’ve been here a few times throughout the years and have always found at least one new treasure. This time it was a gorgeous mid-century Dior-style hat in fair condition (and priced accordingly at $15). I can’t wait to add new embellishments! The shop itself is like most mid-level antique shops. There’s a mix of prices (e.g. costume earrings from $5-25). The shop is a bit crowded with treasures, but it isn’t the overly untidy or overwhelming, IMO. There’s an upstairs area called Retro and Me that has some really cool, quirky finds (some vintage, some repro). They have everything from clothes to kitschy vintage figurines. Unfortunately the lighting was so dim this time that I couldn’t see the wares, but hopefully that will be fixed soon.

Wonderful shop filled with all sorts of treasures- two stories of nostalgia! Clothing, housewares, and some costume jewelry too. A former dress shop that was converted into an antiques shop- it’s an historic spot.

Two floors of vintage goods to explore. I left with a beautiful pair of earrings for just $8. The woman working the cash register was also really sweet
Makenzie P — Google review
Absolutely wonderful atmosphere, the woman at the counter tells great stories about the shop's history (or leaves you alone if you're not very social ;) ) Coming here always feels half like I'm visiting a museum and half like I'm going on a treasure hunt. A lot of the stuff is expensive, but I've found some good finds :) I think they should adopt a business model where they mark things down over time until they're out of the shop. Some of the stuff is (rightfully) expensive but has just been sitting in the shop for years. Some things I've been interested in for years, but never had the money, and I'm sure other people are in the same boat. It's probably better to keep inventory moving than sitting around.

Farmers' market
The Staunton Farmers' Market is a beloved weekly event for the residents of Staunton, offering an array of fresh and wholesome food products sourced directly from local producers. Operating on Saturdays from early April until just before Thanksgiving, and Wednesdays from May through September, this market showcases the best of what the Shenandoah Valley has to offer. With many vendors harvesting their fruits and vegetables just hours before setting up shop, shoppers can expect nothing but peak freshness.
Wow, this was a nice market with an impressive variety of vendors! I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of foods offered. Since it was early fall when I went, there wasn't as much produce available as there would be in the summer, but what I saw looked freshly picked. Parking can be a bit challenging, especially if you can't walk well, since there is limited parking in the downtown area. All in all, I enjoyed going and plan to return next year.
Nancy B — Google review
I loved it! I visit them quite often but I've never been there early enough to check out their farmer's market. I had stayed the night over so I decided to check it out. I'm very glad I did because there were numerous vendors with a variety of produce baked goods and a lot of other things. People are very friendly in the prices were extremely reasonable. Found quite a few yummy options!

One of those local prize venues easily overlooked until you go. Well worth it! You'll find excellent local grown and/or prepared foods as well as various food trucks that swap out each time time last but not least, several craft/makers sellers. If you haven't made time to go, make time.

Had a great time here on Saturday. We bought a nice loaf of spelt bread from Grain Story. The flavor of the whole grains is amazing and goes great with just a smear of butter! We also liked the empanadas and pastries from Magdalena's and the coffee from Happ. Last but not least, we picked up some chestnuts from a local farmer and are really looking forward to roasting them in the oven soon!

I visited the Staunton Farmers' Market a few weeks back and was delighted with the amount of options available for things to purchase/do. Each vender that I visited was amiable and polite even when I didn't buy their product. I especially enjoyed the large selection of plants/flowers to choose from! This is a very well run farmers' market and if you're in town, you should definitely stop by on Saturday morning!
Blake — Google review
We had a wonderful fall (mid-Oct) visit to the farmer's market. The number of vendors may be down, but the quality was great. Fresh eggs, unusual produce, pumpkins and gourds, local cheese, herbs and spices, a variety of meats, some game, lots of pastries including fantastic gluten free! And a hand puppetier. Loved our time there.
Greg K — Google review
It was just an ok experience... Nothing special... I can't understand why everyone gets so excited about a place that only opens a few hours one day a week.. I visit the Philippines regularly and the open air farmers markets there open at 5am to mid afternoon...7 days a week and you can buy anything from Very Fresh fish and meats to produce... live animals (chickens, sheep and lambs and anything else from Soup to Nuts .. So this place was not very exciting to me ..

The Book Dragon Shop in Staunton is a charming bookstore that caters to young readers and those who are young at heart. They offer a wide range of new books, with a focus on children's literature, fantasy, and visually stunning books. The shop also hosts frequent special events for kids. In addition to books, they have a small selection of used books and locally made artisan products available for purchase. Customers can find items like pottery, scarves, candles, and unique handmade crafts.
Absolute favorite book store in town. The owner is VERY sweet and community driven and she has helped TREMENDOUSLY with getting our book club ready for our second read! These are some of the books I’ve purchased here. Thank you so much for being a wonderful part of our community.

I stopped by here yesterday with my sister after she recommended it and it was lovely and very cozy. The selection is amazing, I was able to find many things I was looking for. I am also very appreciative of the displays of books on our current affairs. It made me feel like there was community in that little bookshop. I will be going there for all my bookish needs from now on!

This shop was beautiful and so full of books and amazing gifts to look at. I loved the selection and the prices were very good. The service was friendly. I felt like I could have spent hours in there if I had time. This is a great store to stop in, especially if you love indie bookstores!
Jessica — Google review
If I could give this store zero stars I would. The moment we opened the door, Sandy was unwelcoming with a scowl on her face. She was belittling to my mother when she asked for a book by the wrong title. If you go in you better know exactly what you want, what they have and where they have it because they can’t be bothered. The layout of the store is not accessible, so you better have an able body to shop there. Books are placed on shelves in such a way that if you place a book back too far it will push the books behind it back and potentially off the shelf. Lord, help you if you accidentally do that. We weren’t offered receipts (why on Earth would we want one?) In short, the name of the store is indicative of who is running it. We support independent bookstores every chance we get so it pains me to have to leave this review, but hopefully it will spare others the experience of these dragons or maybe (although unlikely) encourage them to change their attitude for the sake of their business. Oh- if you want a children’s or YA book - do yourself a favor and go around the block to Puffer Bellies.

I cannot get enough of this bookstore. Cozy, packed with great books, and friendly staff. I won't go anywhere else. If you haven't stopped in, do yourself a favor and take a moment..it's fantastic. I would say The Book Dragon is a 'hidden' gem, but considering all of the awards it has won, it doesn't seem too 'hidden.' Love this place!

Byers Street Bistro is a vibrant and casual restaurant located in Staunton's historic Wharf District, offering a Southern-style American menu and live music. The bistro provides a cozy setting with outdoor seating where patrons can enjoy beer, wine, or classic cocktails. The menu features exciting dishes such as herb-infused meatloaf and specialties like crispy potstickers and drunken chicken nachos for sharing.
If you’re looking for great food and service, you found the right place. This was our second time here and both experiences (year apart) were exceptional The Brussel sprouts are fantastic! But so is everything else we had. The pork chops were tender and flavorful, the pizza was perfect and the meatloaf was delicious. Our server Winnie had such a great personality and truly added to our dining experience. Would absolutely recommend Byers Street Bistro
Kimberly — Google review
Byers Street Bistro in downtown Staunton is a local favorite with a strong following, and I can see why on the surface. The location is great—right along a charming street with a relaxed indoor space and a dog-friendly outdoor patio. The staff was welcoming, and the service itself was friendly and attentive. They’re doing a good job on that front. However, for me, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype. I found it average at best—well-presented but lacking in freshness and flavor. Ingredients didn’t feel particularly vibrant, and a few things tasted like they’d been prepped well ahead of time rather than made fresh. Nothing was inedible, but nothing really stood out either. For a place with such a strong reputation, the food felt more like generic pub fare than thoughtfully prepared bistro dishes. I understand that others may have had better experiences—reviews seem to praise dishes like the pork chops, crab dip, and fried green tomatoes—but my visit didn’t hit those marks. With some tweaks to sourcing, prep, or menu execution, I could see this place rising to meet its ambiance and service. 📝 Final Take Great location, warm service, and a laid-back vibe—but the food didn’t feel fresh or distinctive enough to make it memorable for me. I’d return for a drink on the patio or to give it another try, but based on this visit, the kitchen still has some work to do to match the setting.

On our road trip, we stopped by Staunton. This was the only restaurant open at that time (2pm). We walked in and were seated right away. Our server (Stephanie, I think) was so kind and helpful. Everything was delicious, especially the Steakhouse Burger. My parents who only eat Chinese food LOVED the burger (and they usually do not eat them)! It was very juicy and cooked perfectly. I ordered the BBQ Brisket Melt, which had too much sauce. The brisket, however, was very tender, but the sauce did not do it justice. My side Cole Slaw was very good. The Shrimp Tacos had 3 large pieces of grilled shrimp per taco. Loved the shrimp but not a fan of the actual taco. It was messy to eat and lacked flavor. Good place to stop by for a casual lunch! There is a lot in front of the restaurant and a parking garage nearby.

Great little market, and the food and coffee at the cafe are good, just don’t go if you’re on any kind of schedule. I feel bad complaining, but I had to abandon my order because a breakfast sandwich took over 40 minutes. I realize it was busy, but if the workers get this overwhelmed, maybe either hire more people during peak hours, or reduce the amount of variations on offer so that more items can be prepped ahead of time?

A favorite breakfast spot whenever I visit Staunton. I enjoy the freshly made options and the slow vibe. Despite the small space, extra tables are tucked into corners and even on the staircase landing offering a bit of privacy, if you want a private conversation. Stuart Hall School's 2023 graduation ceremony was held in this church on a Friday evening. Our daughter was one of the graduates. It was a grand and memorable affair, & particularly the atmosphere elevated the overall experience. The church is historic and stunning both inside and out. I've visited cathedrals in Europe, and this church is on par in its beauty. I hope to attend a religious service in the future.

Thanks to a tip from a local we chatted with while visiting Downtown Staunton, we came here to look at the Tiffany stained glass windows from the outside. It was a Sunday and services were just ending and a few members of the congregation who saw us invited us inside the chapel to see them up close. It is a gorgeous church and I wish we’d known earlier as we would’ve come here to attend Sunday services at 8:00 or 10:15 AM. During weekdays, the church is open from 1:00 - 4:00 PM (M-F) for visitors.

A must-visit spot in Staunton is Kline's Dairy Bar, where you can indulge in their daily special ice cream flavors. With its origins dating back to 1943 in Downtown Harrisburg, this popular establishment expanded to three other locations, including the one in Staunton. Offering a nostalgic experience, Kline's Dairy Bar uses only the finest and freshest ingredients to hand-make their delicious ice creams.
If you like custard style ice cream or BBQ sandwiches. This is a place to go. An interesting building. Looks like an old garage. The food is simple, reasonably priced and tastes great. The folks working there are super friendly. Check it out if you are in the mood for this type of food. You can't go wrong.

BBQ Meets Ice Cream In a quirky establishment where aviation meets mastication, Kline's Dairy Bar & Hog Wild BBQ offers an interesting fusion of comfort food concepts. The space's most striking feature - an upside-down airplane suspended from the rafters - sets the stage for what could be called an unconventional dining experience. The industrial-chic garage doors hint at a potentially vibrant summer atmosphere, though they currently contribute to a somewhat sterile ambiance. However, the friendly and efficient staff helps warm up the space, providing prompt service with genuine smiles. The BBQ Chronicles The Big Carolina BBQ sandwich emerges as a safe but unremarkable choice. While the pulled pork holds its own, it lacks that special something that makes great BBQ memorable. The sauce selection presents two options: the thin, underwhelming Carolina sauce and the more appealing Hog Wild variety. The sides tell a similar tale - the baked beans whisper of their possible supermarket origins, while the potato salad stands proud as the plate's unexpected hero. Sweet Redemption Where this establishment truly soars is in its frozen treats department. The Reese's Overload creation demonstrates Kline's mastery of the dairy arts. Picture this: velvety custard, generously studded with Reese's Pieces and peanut butter cups, all harmoniously bound together with a perfectly complementary sauce. The thickness and creaminess of the custard showcase proper technique and quality ingredients. The Verdict Kline's presents an interesting dichotomy - while the BBQ might leave smoke enthusiasts wanting more, the dairy bar offerings could convert even the most discerning dessert critics. For BBQ purists, this might not be your final destination, but for those seeking a sweet ending to their day, the custard creations merit a dedicated visit. Think of Kline's as that friend who's okay at singing but absolutely kills it at dancing - you go to see them dance, not for their karaoke performance. In this case, save your BBQ cravings for elsewhere, but definitely make a beeline for their frozen treats, where the cheerful staff will happily guide you through their creative custard menu.

Stopped by Kline’s Ice Cream in Afton during a road trip — absolutely worth the detour. I was driving through the area, taking in the mountain scenery along Blue Ridge Parkway, and spotted Kline’s tucked right off the road. Decided to make a quick stop for a treat, and I’m glad I did — it turned into one of those simple, memorable travel moments. The place has that classic small-town charm — just a walk-up window, a clean open lot, a few shaded tables, and the smell of fresh waffle cones in the air. I tried the flavor of the week and it was outstanding — creamy, not too sweet, and you can tell it’s made fresh. This isn’t your average ice cream — it’s the kind that brings back childhood summer memories, no gimmicks, just done right. Service was fast and friendly, even with a steady stream of customers. Locals and travelers alike — all with smiles, taking a break from the road. It's the kind of place that makes you slow down, take a breath, and enjoy something simple. If you’re on a drive through Afton, heading toward the mountains or just looking to break up the trip, this is a perfect stop. Easy to get in and out, and the ice cream alone is worth going out of your way for. I’ll definitely swing by again next time I’m in the area.

Imagine, if thou wilt, a gathering most noble: a Special Needs Avengers, assembled not for battle, but for culinary chaos. United by courage and questionable taste, they hath forged a restaurant—nay, an abomination—upon the realm. And lo! What name adorns this establishment of milky misfortune? Kline Dairy Bar. Aye, the walls do weep with sticky syrup and the scent of curdled dreams. One doth enter seeking sweet delight, but findeth only sorrow swirled in a cup. Their service moves at the pace of a one-legged tortoise lost in thought, and their sundaes are colder than a tax collector’s heart, yet twice as bitter. The ice cream? ‘Tis not so much churned as cursed—like it hath been forged in the bowels of Mount Mediocrity. Each bite a gamble, each spoonful a sigh. Their idea of flavor variety is vanilla’s cousin thrice removed. And the ambiance—ye gods—the floor sticketh to thy sandals like a needy ex, and the menu reads as though penned by a blind scribe on his deathbed. In truth, if this be the finest offering yon town hath, then mayhap famine be a mercy.

We went here for the first time and it won't be our last. We got the banana splits (highly recommended) and the Italian ice. It was all very delicious. I see how it's been around since 1943. The staff were very nice and helpful. The decor inside was very nostalgic too. We are looking forward to being back in the area to visit here again.

Cute little place that serves food and ice cream. Kind of humid and hot because it's indoor/outdoor seating. They could have had some big fans to get some air moving through the building. I ordered a blueberry cheesecake shake and it was not very good but the apple pie shake that my mom ordered was good my tater tots were not very warm with my grilled cheese.

We visited on Halloween night in 2024. It was much busier than we expected. There were a ton of parking spaces. We enjoyed the unique design where the siting area is like a large area with garage doors that they open up. We order 4 milkshakes (Apple Pie, Cake Batter, Raspberry and Pumpkin) and 1 frappe (Caramel). The Apple Pie was by far the best in my opinion followed by the Raspberry. I did not care for the Pumpkin and not sure how my child finished the Cake Batter. It was gritty tasting. The frappe was very similar to a McDonalds Frappe in quality but McDonalds is cheaper in cost. Overall, the atmosphere was cool and the design with the garage door was unique. I would only go for the weirder flavors they offer like Apple Pie. Based on the price we paid it was fine but nothing I would go out of my way for. We wanted some dessert after a long drive and this looked different enough to give it a try.

LOVE the Retro look! Fresh paint, diner style seating and fun decor make this dining experience delightful. The two sides are open to the outside, which gives it the feel of outdoor dining without completely being exposed to the outside. They even have child size colorful booths. The food was good and the ice cream tasty - A great experience and we love to support local businesses.

Paris Cake Company, also known as Table 44, is a dog-friendly bakery and restaurant located in Staunton. They have recently opened a new dog-friendly patio called the Doggio and offer a special menu for pups. The human food is highly recommended, with options like the Maryland Crabcake sandwich and potato salad being particularly praised. Customers also enjoyed desserts such as cheesecake and key lime pie. The staff are friendly and attentive, providing excellent service to diners.
Try the Lee's burger. One of my top 3 all-time best burgers that I've tried. Ever. Bravo. Service was great as well. Our waitress was attentive but not overly so to the point of annoying.

Enjoyed my first meal at Table 44. The Bloody Mary was delicious. I also had the goat cheese salad and flourless torte. Everything was delicious. Our waitress was great. Eating area and restrooms were clean. Only complaint would be the flies bothering us the whole time we were eating (inside).

There's a restaurant in Staunton that has become a destination spot for me and the guy; we'll book a weekend trip just to go there. Well, after our brunch visit to Table 44, we now have two spots worthy of booking a multi-day stay. The layout of the restaurant is unique and pretty freakin' cool. The dining area is akin to a long hallway. The kitchen also runs along the dining space but "separated" by a tall wall, while still being open. I forgot to mention the best part: the restaurant is attached to Paris Cake Company, so you can grab some sweet treats on the way out (like we did). Customer service is way above par. Every single staff member that made eye contact with us also spoke and made sure we had everything we needed. On to the food. Omg. I literally wanted everything on the menu. We usually attempt to strategically plan the way we order so that we can try as many items as possible without ordering duplicates of anything. I quickly realized we'd have to plan several more trips in the near future to get all the must-haves that we decided on. Since we each only brought one stomach, we had to settle on a normal amount of goods. Here's what we chose: Bloody Mary (practically a meal in itself) || Mimosa || Grapefruit Brûlée || Parmesan, Roasted Red Pepper & Asparagus Quiche || 44 Southern Eggs Benedict || Bacon. When the drinks were served, our server also brought complementary lemon madeleines. WOW! I could eat those every morning with a cup of tea ... Or after dinner would be perfect too. They were so light with exactly the right amount of sweetness. You can view the photos to see everything we ordered but pictures cannot convey how incredible everything tasted. We were literally making sounds every time we took a bite of something. Starting with that grapefruit - now I'll never want a regular grapefruit again. The quiche was absolute perfection, the texture was like a fluffy pillow. The benny ... holy bleep!!! First of all, it's served with biscuits instead of english muffins. The biscuits are housemade and totally to die for. The sausage in this dish was THE best sausage either of us has ever had. The eggs were spot-on; I mean, just look at those beauties. The braised greens on the side were worthy of a "hell yes" from grandma. And of course we added a side of bacon because that's 100% required every time. If you are in or around the Staunton area, this is a MUST visit for brunch! Or be like us and plan a visit around food. Be sure to grab some baked goods on the way out. We loaded up on cookies last time, but I want cupcakes and tarts next visit 😊.

Amazing! Waited in line Sunday morning for brunch. So worth the wait - once they open for the day, they get everyone seated and taken care of efficiently. Biscuits and gravy were delicious and the portion was huge! Everything coming out of the kitchen looked wonderful.

Oh my goodness the burgers here were so amazing and huge!! We were so looking forward to dessert but too full to get any. We ended up walking around Staunton for an hour and a half just to make room. Best idea ever. I had the Flourless Chocolate Torte. So rich, so creamy, I swear I was eating pure ganache. Hubby had the Salted Butterscotch Cheesecake in a generous portion that was yummy. There burgers were a little pricey but the desserts were very reasonable.

Delicious little restaurant just off the Wharf Area in Staunton. Fried sweet pickle chips with a blue cheese dip are amazingly good. Salads, burgers, and dinner fare are all worthy of a second visit. The Visulite Cinema in Staunton is a small local theater that showcases both popular new releases and classic films. This renovated movie theater boasts modern amenities, including 3D capability, and offers concessions for moviegoers. In addition to screening wide-release movies, they also feature limited-release films and live broadcasted operas.
Wonderful historical theatre in downtown Staunton. They offer mainstream movies, indie film collections and the Met Opera simulcast. I go about once a week.
Kristin H — Google review
This isn't really a theater I would visit again. The snack selection is minimal. The building had an odor like mildew or moldy. The chairs don't really recline. There were little foot stools in front of each seat. The area where we sat was not clean at all. We could hear a movie playing nearby. The seats in front of us were obstructing the view of the small screen. Luckily, this was not my first time seeing the movie, and needless to say, my first experience was much better at an Imax theater. I try to patronize businesses in my area, but sometimes venturing out farther is a better choice.
Olivia B — Google review
Friendly staff, comfortable it not slightly beaten up seats, leg rests that are almost a tripping hazard since they move around.small theater rooms make for more comfortable and intimate viewing experience without loss of picture or sound quality. Occasionally could hear the movie next door but it wasn't bothersome. Haven't tried the food yet but the popcorn was good. 8/10
Paul C — Google review
While I love Visulite, in the past years it has gotten very gross. When I had to use the bathroom, I had to go through multiple rooms to find the urinal almost falling off, stall wasn’t attached to the wall or ground, mold and grime in the bathroom drain. Staff is nice, but can sometimes be a little upset for no reason. While I don’t want to just complain, it’s all I can do, the only pros are that it’s local, and that the sound quality is good. And back to the cons, (sorry) Movie screen shut off and staff couldn’t fix it until about 30 minutes later, so I’d like to assume only 1 person per shift which is quite stressful to them I’d bet. Movie rooms not cleaned until end of the night or even the start of the next day, snacks and drink machines look like they haven’t been cleaned in 10 years, not to mention how old the machines are. While some may find this annoying or rude, I want to let any owner or management team please remodel or revamp the entire theater at this point. I bet by the end of 2029, the place will be shut down if nothing changes.

Most comfortable theater seats ever, food and drink available and delivered to your seat. Not a huge screen but it doesn't matter. Really nice experience.

The Visulite is a gem in the heart of downtown. Locally, it’s a happening on Mondays for the film series. Other days, it’s a double escape— into the film and the charms of a perfect vintage movie theater. The beer and wine pair perfectly with popcorn and candy.

Made; By the People, For the People is a modern-day general store in Staunton, established by a family drawn to the town. The shop offers something for everyone, from gifts and cards to fresh flowers and locally made products. Visitors praise the friendly staff and wide variety of high-quality goods, making it a must-see destination with an amazing selection.
What a cool place. Absolutely something for everyone. One of those shops you go to but a gift and end up getting a few for yourself as well. Great for friends, family, coworkers you don't know, roommates you know too well, people who have everything, and your friend's super cool kids. Great card selection and even fresh flowers! I also really appreciated that their soaps and things weren't heavily and artificially fragranced. Didn't bother this sensitive nose one bit. The shop owner or clerk (?) was as nice as could be.
Amy W — Google review
Stopped by Made; while walking downtown Staunton. The storefront caught my eye—minimal but inviting, and once inside, it was clear this place is built with intent. Every shelf, wall, and basket has something thoughtful packed into it: small-batch candles, handmade jewelry, quirky kitchen towels, Virginia-themed stickers, cat bowties, coffee mugs with dry humor, and lots of cards you won’t find at a grocery chain. The vibe is relaxed—no pressure to buy, just music playing softly and the sense that someone local carefully chose every item. If you like to browse slowly and pick out something unique for someone (or yourself), this place fits that mood perfectly. It’s not a big shop, and it’s not trying to be. It focuses on quality over quantity. You’ll find a mix of local makers, artists, and U.S.-made pieces. It’s the kind of place where the staff (or owner) might say hi and tell you a little backstory behind the item you’re holding. That adds to the experience. If you're walking Beverley Street, worth a stop. Whether or not you buy anything, you’ll leave with a little inspiration and maybe a mental note to come back closer to the holidays.

I love this shop! I don't always get a chance to go in person, and recently purchased from their website. It was super easy and they made my order a little more special and personable (I won't go into details, but it was very sweet and def made my heart happy!). If you're ever downtown in Staunton Virginia, we've got a ton of great small businesses with fantastically wonderful people/families behind them. Go show them some love because they deserve all the good things!! Thank you Made!!!

One of the most amazing shops I’ve been in in Staunton! Went in just before closing and didn’t even notice and the cashier (I think also the owner) chatted with me and my friend and made us feel just at home! She kindly gifted us some free stickers because it was our first time in the shop. Overall, a fantastic experience with amazing selection and local, high-quality products with something for everyone! I got the most amazing honey chapstick and a small pack of gum. Another amazing thing about the store is that everything has a purpose! Every product has a good cause behind it and is made with love. Cannot wait to go back! Shops like this is what makes Staunton an amazing place!❤️

Vast collection of train, civilian and military kits, from old to new. They have many 1/16 kits which is not very easy to see even in Asia. Most of the supplies are for trains but also enough stock for general modeling tools. Large and mostly complete stock of Tamiya and AK paints.

I just want to say first off that this is one of the most well organized hobby stores I have visited. Christian, the owner is very welcoming and knowledgeable and knows his products and customer's needs and wants. I was visiting the Staunton area for a couple of days and happened on this store while driving through downtown. I was there on a Monday, which was lucky for me that he was open. Normally he told me, he closes on Mondays but had been closed on the Sunday that week instead and decide to open to catch up on things. I was glad he did! We talked for quite awhile about our hobby interests and model building. I work at my local hobby store in Massachusetts part time and Christian and I know the same reps from the distributors we use for our products, so that made for some interpersonal conversation. I learned also that there is a large number of modelers in that area of Virginia and from what I saw a the shop, they should be happy that they have a place where they can go, the prices are great, selection is awesome and when you have a store owner who loves their job, it just adds to the whole experience. Thanks for a great visit Christian ! I will definitely be in touch with you.

They don't sell video games. They do have a great selection of board and card games though! It's a really cool shop, but for those of you wondering, they don't sell any video games at all.
Hunter A — Google review
The store had a strong moldy odor that made it uncomfortable to stay in for more than a few minutes. While browsing the Magic: The Gathering binders, I noticed they were poorly organized, and most cards were not sleeved, leading to visible wear and damage. None of the cards had visible price tags, and the individual at the counter manually priced each one upon request. This led to significant inconsistencies for example, a card valued at approximately $10 was priced at $20, while another worth $20 was priced for $11. This inconsistency made it difficult to shop with confidence. Additionally, I found a card from the Unhinged set, which is not tournament-legal. After checking online and finding it valued at approximately $0.50, the staff member offered it for $3 simply because he couldn’t locate a reference price. This raised concerns about fairness and transparency in their pricing process. Overall, due to the poor card conditions, lack of organization, inconsistent pricing, and unpleasant environment, I would not recommend this store to collectors or players looking for a reliable shopping experience.

Whether you are into TCG’s, miniature games, board games, or RpG’s this place has you covered. The owner joined my daughter and I to learn a game of Lorcana then gave us a tour and an amazing history lesson of the place. The dungeon where the miniature tabletop games happen is quite exciting. Lots of great terrain pieces to use throughout the basement. Lots of nice and welcoming players. Really impressed with this store and will stop in for a game every time we come into town now!

The Saturday morning farmers market at the Wharf parking lot has a lot of variety. They have food vendors and farms selling vegetables and meats.
Trey C — Google review
Although I appreciate the idea the implementation here was lacking. We went Saturday and Sunday and it was a ghost town. Not much to see but of the places that were still open they were nice.
Ron M — Google review
What a fun area to walk on a Saturday morning. Fun farmers market, lots going on.
Lydia L — Google review
Was never a wharf... But looks like it. Good eats, good coffee & shops... And a great Farmers market Saturdays.

Visitors can also explore the lounge area where kids can play games or watch movies on the TV while enjoying various activities.
Absolutely loved stopping into this sweet shop while we were in town for the weekend! So many fun finds for local crafters. My daughters loved getting to see the bunny and the “secret kids room” as my girls called it. Nice and clean with a public restroom. ❤️
Jessica W — Google review
The artwork throughout the store is surprisingly solid—from fantasy-inspired prints to quirky fan pieces, there’s a clear appreciation for indie creativity. It’s a nice touch that gives the place a local soul. That said, the shop overall could use a bit of a refresh. The layout feels a little dated, and the visual identity doesn’t quite hold together—it’s missing that magnetic personality you want in a modern collectible. ✅ Decent art ✅ Friendly local vibe 🛠️ Could use an upgrade in store design and branding 🎲 Still a fun stop for gamers, collectors, and pop culture fans

Very friendly staff but disappeared into the back until I started heading toward the door. Healthy looking plants but not necessarily unique in choices. Some cute gifts! Would return to see if new things came in. Sold some interesting Tshirts as well.
