Monuments & Statues
The African Renaissance Monument, completed in 2010, is a massive 49-meter bronze statue that portrays a man holding his child and rescuing his wife. Standing at 52 meters tall, it is the tallest statue in Africa and commemorates the end of slavery and the resurgence of the continent. Despite being built by a North Korean company, this monument has become a controversial yet symbolic landmark.
This monument symbolizes the family leaving the past and negative for a forward future. The statue is one of the worlds tallest. The walk to the base is almost 200 steps and when I arrived to the base I found a discreet road up to the top that does not mar the monument. Toilets at the base are not working. The steps are set in flights of 10'steos or so with a bench to rest, catch one's breath, and enjoy the view Free of charge. Two eateries at the bottom street level offer lunch service
Toni T — Google review
This place is so worth a visit. There was a lovely vibe all around last Sunday, with lots of people enjoying themselves. The steps are fun, great for photos and the view. People at the top were relaxed and many were buying boxes of popcorn. We decided to go into the statue itself and we're glad that we did. You just stand around listening out for when they will organise the queue for the next tour. When you eventually get to the top, you're actually in the hat of the man in the statue, and have great views all around of the city and the Atlantic Ocean.
Luke W — Google review
Great views, along a common location & parking is available. Plus, there is a canteen that sells snacks & drinks. Four stars because they only had a French guide! Hence some of us missed out on a critical part of history
Irfan V — Google review
Not sure why the Google listing gives you options for tickets. Maybe it is for tours, but you can literally walk up the stairs and look around. You do not need a ticket to walk up the stairs, take pictures, so forth and so on.
Briana H — Google review
Impressive and very energetic place. Although the elevator was inoperative and we could not get on top of the sculpture, the sculpture from the outside is enough experience.
Worldwide R — Google review
Must visit place in Dakar. Grand statue. Was fun with friends. One can go inside the status by paying some entrance fees.
Anupam S — Google review
Definitely advise to go to the hat. Fun experience! We waited about 10 minutes to enter. It takes about 30 minutes to go through the museum before you go up into the hat. I recommend bringing change.
Teresa — Google review
Meaningful and historic site. Definitely climb up if you physically can because it's challenging. Take the time to observe the city from the top, best time is around the sunset or after when the temperature is a little cooler.

Island
Nature & Parks
Ngor is a charming and colorful island located off the coast of Dakar, Senegal. It is known for its rustic appeal and rich history, having been settled in the mid-1500s. The island offers a tranquil escape from the bustling streets of Dakar, with its small, well-maintained beach and a variety of food stalls serving local delicacies like Theiboudienne, Senegal's national dish.
Beautiful island. We ate, walked around and enjoyed the scenery. Very nice people.
Cherresse K — Google review
Our family visit to Ngor Island was an enchanting experience that catered wonderfully to both our young children and us as parents. Known for its serene ambiance and beautiful scenery, Ngor Island provided the perfect escape from the bustling mainland. From the moment we arrived, the island's kid-friendly nature was evident. There was plenty of space for the children to play and explore in a safe and welcoming environment. The pace of life here is slow and relaxed, which is ideal for families looking to unwind together. The culinary experience on Ngor Island was a highlight of our visit. The meals were exceptionally good, with a variety of options available to cater to all tastes, including the discerning palates of young children. Whether we dined at local eateries or enjoyed more sophisticated dining options, the quality of food was consistently high, featuring fresh, local ingredients prepared with care. Our accommodation added significantly to our enjoyable stay, offering utmost comfort and convenience. The room was spacious, ensuring that the family could relax without feeling cramped. The inclusion of modern amenities and the provision of hot water for showers made our stay comfortable, allowing us to feel refreshed and rejuvenated each day.In summary, Ngor Island stands out as a family-friendly destination that promises and delivers an unforgettable experience. Its blend of natural beauty, relaxed atmosphere, culinary delights, and comfortable accommodations makes it an ideal spot for families seeking a peaceful retreat. For us, it was not just a visit but a cherished family memory we look forward to repeating.

Small little island that you reach by boat from mainland. You can winder the streets and get some beautiful views from the top. The beachfront gets crowded though and your feet will get wet when disembarking the boat. Would definitely recommend just spending a few hours chilling here.
Yeesh R — Google review
It is a really nice island. If you come to Dakar, Senegal, I recommend you to visit. The beach is beautiful and the alleys are very pretty. The sea water is very clear and beautiful, but be careful not to sting your feet with sea urchins while swimming.
David B — Google review
A very nice small island by the northern coast of Dakar. Not so much to see but can be a cool spot for a daytrip. The island can be covered in literally 30 minutes. For me the most fun spot was the beach where many small bars and restaurants can be found. Round trip by the big boat is 500 CFA per person. The boat ride is not very comfy but doesn't take more than 5 minutes.

Museums
The IFAN Museum of African Arts, also known as the Musee Theodore-Monod d'Art Africain, is a renowned museum in Dakar, Senegal. Established in 1938 and housed in a beautiful building in the Plateau district, it offers an extensive collection of contemporary and historic African art and cultural exhibits. The museum serves as a significant cultural research center with expertise in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Really wonderful museum in Dakar. Veronique was an excellent guide and explained so much about the art and Senegalese culture in general. The art is exciting and pulled from different countries all over Africa.
Benjamin A — Google review
Very small exhibition and only one floor. Second floor seems to be under renovation. Took 10 minutes walking through all. They have but a few artifacts, but very little informative display other than brief description of each item. "Magic bottle from Guinea" for example. And it was quite expensive to enter at 5.000 for foreigners. Would not recommend the detour unless you're in the area.
Bjørn — Google review
You can find more (and more interesting) items in an upscale souvenir shop. The exhibition is very small, of limited artistic and/or historical significance and quite expensive (5,000 per person) for what you get. I hope sometime they will invest in acquiring a good collection. Senegal/africa has produced much greater art than this. There were maybe one or two objects that made an impression (photos). Little too no explanation. Sometimes the marketplace pricetag was still on the art.
Dirk-Jan K — Google review
This museum is a deception. Few pieces, interesting but limited explanations, not well preserved. Another missing opportunity in Senegal
Giulio G — Google review
Interesting place with a small collection of musical instruments and traditional dresses and masks.
Alberto S — Google review
Although Google map was indicating it as open, it was closed. Front entrance was open and there was no one to provide information. There were staffs sitting around but no one cared to provide any information. There was one art expo inside and we could see that.
Kumar P — Google review
A nice display of tribal art from several countries in the west Africa region. It was all in French so I had to use Google translate for English and Spanish. Behind the building is a nice garden with tables and chairs set up. Great place to relax and sit down to read a book or study for a little bit. I did not see a cafe in the building but if you bring your own snacks you can enjoy some peaceful time in the garden. There was a nice sand artist in the garden that did a demonstration of his art. We enjoyed meeting and talking with him for a while. There were also two peacocks walking around the garden. I enjoyed my leisurely time here.
Lauren P — Google review
A place to which you must go, because sadly there aren't many places in Dakar to see African culture. The place shows tribal art from several countries of the region, and what they show is ok BUT, I was expecting so much more... there are so many interesting in this part of the world, and this museum is ok, but should show so much more. There is no personnel to do guided tours, so you are left to do the tour on your own, and of course, that is a big loss. The tags are worthless most of the time, stating the obvious, that is, a description of what you can see, which you can see already! But no context, no info on what the piece was used for, etc. That was quite disappointing. There are two floors. There is a proyection room, but no projector... there is a TV which is running the same video again and again showing some national authority speaking at the UN speaking of the need to recover the African art that was shamelessly stolen by the colonialists. I am all for it, but this shouldn't be the one and only video... you can see they don't have resources. It's sad. But well, the things on display are really good, don't miss it.

Beautiful experience, viewing artist work, the is positive and the hospitality was amazing, greatest opportunity on the Dakar tour.

Great exhibition and artist’s residence ⭐️⭐️
Roberto S — Google review
The artists don't start before 11AM and most of them start later in the day. Don't go early, go around 2-3 pm. We went at 11am, only saw about 6 artists and the gallery. The gallery was pleasant.
Diarra S — Google review
I only decided to visit on the spur of the moment, and I'm so glad I did - all the artists made me feel welcome, and were more than happy to invite me into their workshops and take the time to chat about their work. The art exhibited in the gallery is stunning, but the artworks scattered throughout the village are equally as good, equally as thought-provoking. I only planned a short visit, but ended up spending more than half a day there. I'd highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in Dakar with time on your hands.

Hann Zoological Park, located about 10 kilometers from downtown Dakar, is a popular tourist attraction known for its expansive parkland and diverse wildlife. The park covers over 100 hectares and features a large baobab forest where visitors can observe African animals such as lions, crocodiles, monkeys, turtles, antelopes, zebras, and giraffes.
Wonderful zoo to saw animals and birds, zoo ticket cost 500 CFA, very value and spend some time with family.
Angelia L — Google review
Very small zoo but the park for walk is sufficiently big. Condition ain't that great. The staff are very nice and sweet.
Ranjeeta S — Google review
The Parc was created, with the intention of conserving plants and animals . Surprisingly The lions were so big I thought they were not real until I observed it closely to be breathing. The had not so much animals for the current space there at the moment . The pythons was also something to look at. The ostrichs were magnificent to see too... The Parc is family friendly and I think it's a place to visit regardless. #anisdaughter
Preye E — Google review
Everytime I am back at the park, I wonder why I haven’t come back earlier… one of the few places in Dakar that offer green sceneries, tranquility and the ability to have a walk. Kids can run without bigger concerns. Sadly there is still some trash lying around, but otherwise this should be a weekend regular!
Noemi S — Google review
Ideal for a day with friends, school activities, picnic or family! You have lots of options available for games. Most of them require you to pay before playing. You can also go there to do your sport. The place is accessible by bus or other means of transport
Afi E — Google review
It's okay I guess.. for a zoo in Africa. I mean if you'd want to see the wildlife then it's better to go on an African Safari. But the 500 XOF entrance is almost free, so can't complain really.
Rafael C — Google review
A feel for fresh air, tranquility, and excellent green space to enjoy. I highly recommend visiting the ZOO at Park Hann under its new administration managed by #Luka_Animal_Rescue_Senegal
Fouad H — Google review
The zoo was closed although they did not tell us anything at the reception. The careless condition in which is kept is humiliating. There were families that went from far just be disappointed as it says "Open" in Google maps but in reality it wasn't and sincerely I would not go back. Looks more like a zoo in Chernobyl.

Recreation center
Magic Land Park is a versatile property offering various amenities such as dining, a gym, and an outdoor pool with a waterslide. It is described as an amusement park in Senegal that caters to both kids and adults. The park features numerous games and rides for entertainment. Additionally, there are suggestions to ensure that prizes are available for the games. Visitors can also explore the nearby Casino Terrou-Bi and a small beach.
This place is for my phone and I highly recommend you go if you decide to visit Dakar. It's the country's only amusement park and it's definitely worth a visit. Most of the rides cost 4 to 6 tickets for adults or two tickets for children. Not sure how much it costs if you're just there to hang out and buy food.
Char S — Google review
All fun, though some of the activities are scary.
Sheriff B — Google review
I came here with a 9 year old, 11 year old, and a older teenager on a Tuesday morning. We came when it opened because I wanted to avoid the lines. But lucky me, there were no lines at all, we were the only ones there for the first hour. I am glad we went early because the sun was already hot and if we had to stand in line, that would have been uncomfortable. They have some shaded areas, but not where the rides are. Be careful, the rides can be very hot because the sun makes the seat super hot. So better to wear pants and also sun protection. When you enter, you buy a set of tickets. Each ride will cost different number of tickets. For adults sometimes the rides are 4 tickets and the kids are 2 tickets. But this is different for every ride. The place was clean, but I did not see the bathrooms. They do not accept credit cards. We had a fun time. It is good to spend about 3 hours here.
Maria H — Google review
Great place to have fun but really needs to update its attraction as its very basic. Some attractions are not even opened and the place needs a decent clean up!
Discovering T — Google review
My 3yo enjoyed it. Not many activities for those under 2. Although my daughter did spend some time in the bouncy castle (which need to be cleaned more often because they were VERY dusty). The machines could use an upgrade (the squeaking made me very neevous ha!). Staff was nice. There weren’t many people there when we went so we couldn’t go on certain rides because they were waiting for a certain number of children to join. Which is absurd. On slow days, they should definitely make exceptions.
Saran K — Google review
This place is so great. It's a place to bring your family or your sweet love It is open till late night with fewer people however weekends is really full ....full and fun
Eyit F — Google review
In weekends, it’s crowded. I would prefer to go on Friday. They have a big swimming pool, which is good.
Lius L — Google review
Magic Land, indeed a magic Land for the kids. Definitely has enough games to entertain the kids and adults for Instance. What I dislike is when there are no prizes available for kids do not let them get on the games, YOU must have enough prize for each game be be honest since it is the main reason we take our family members there

The Grand Mosque of Dakar, also known as the Grande Mosquee de Dakar or the Mosque of the Divinity, is a significant religious monument in Senegal. Built in 1906, it features a striking 67-meter minaret and an opulent interior that combines European and Eastern architectural styles. This magnificent mosque symbolizes religious tolerance and is a must-visit for tourists exploring Dakar.

The Grand Mosque of Dakar seemed to be closed when I was there, so I didn't get the chance to go inside. It was quite lively, but outside, there were dozens of beggars and homeless people.
Isak E — Google review
Horrendous surroundings full of dirty aggressive thuggish men. I wanted to just see it from afar (and noticed there were MEN tourists wearing shorts within the confines of the gates, but because I was visibly foreign and a woman some dirty thugs did not let me take pictures from outside the gates. Museum
The Museum of Black Civilisations in Dakar is a vast and modern museum that focuses on African culture and customs, with an emphasis on Senegalese and West African cultures. It also showcases other African cultures. The museum features exhibits and artifacts related to the geological, architectural, and scientific history of Africa. While the signage may be challenging for non-French speakers, it offers a decent general cultural experience.
Very informative! I enjoyed the available exhibits. I will need to return when they complete renovations! The innovation of Africa is unmatched, of all the museums I've been to this will be my favorite!
Kyle C — Google review
hilarious! The Chinese gave them this building and they literally put up an exhibit of tires and trash. I guess art does imitate life. Before the Europeans came to Africa, there was no written language in most of the continent so they’ve don’t have any history to put on display. Instead, they’ve just culturally appropriated Egyptian history and put up billboards around the first floor of the museum on the Egyptians instead. Most of the museum is empty.
Emily H — Google review
One of the highlights of my time in Dakar. The Museum of Black Civilizations celebrates African heritage with world-class curation and architecture. Galleries move from early civilizations and spiritual traditions to music, textiles, and modern art, connecting Africa with its global diaspora. Displays are engaging and bilingual (French/English). The building is stunning and accessible, and the team is welcoming. Great for families, students, and visitors. Don’t miss it.
Ousman T — Google review
A must in your "to visit list" in Senegal 🇸🇳. Interesting place where you can have a very good knowledge of the past (and somewhat present) African civilisations, their history, their achievements, contributions, architectures, discoveries, cultures and customs, etc. Also differents findings of the skeletons of past civilisations are exposed as well as the art cratfs from different African countries. Paid entry (at entrance) of CFA 3000 for adults and CFA 500 for children (residents and non residents). Free parking available or very easily accessible by taxi. There is a staff who will give you a virtual of the museum as soon as you enter, however, you can hire a guide ONLY if you come in large groups. I dont think someone, especially tourists, will mind paying a guide in order to have a better explanation and enhance his first visit (though there are much details on the posters exposed). It is closed on Mondays and public holidays and open the rest of the week from 10am to 7pm.
Arif T — Google review
This impressive modernist building houses a relatively small but very fine collection of African artifacts that clearly steps you through a timeline of African history. The layout is conducive to quiet contemplation of Africa’s vast, rich history. Worth a couple of hours to see both ancient and contemporary art and artifacts.
Runningdogyankee — Google review
I was quite excited to see this but left quite disappointed. It is not well curated at all and a bit disjointed in the overall presentation. Most of the signage and information boards are only in French. Sadly, not recommended. Additionally, if you are going to pay for your ticket in cash, make sure you come with the exact amount (3000 cfa)
Nael I — Google review
This is a huge museum filled with historical information, sculptures and also modern art. I really enjoyed it. Although a lot of it is in French, I could still appreciate a lot of the art and some of the artifacts. There were also photographs of Black women in history and Black historical figures, including George Floyd. I would definitely recommend stopping by. There are bathrooms but no cafe.

Fast food restaurant
Ali Baba is a Lebanese snack bar in Dakar, Senegal, known for its cheap and cheerful atmosphere. While the surroundings may not be romantic or pristine, it's a favorite take-away spot for many due to its fantastic shawarma sandwiches and other Lebanese dishes. The staff is friendly and helpful when it comes to navigating the menu.
Love this restaurant definitely go here!! 🤩
YaFavvdarkskinn M — Google review
Not the best option if you want to get fast food but almost the only one you have if you want to eat after 11pm, usually the time most restaurants in Dakar close. Ali Baba is open until 3 am, and the food is good enough for your midnight cravings. I would not recommend the Shawarmas but I would recommend the Crevettes Sautée à la Sauce à l'Ail (Shrimp Sautéed in Garlic Sauce).

This is a local restaurant that focuses on African and Middle eastern cuisine. The prices are inexpensive. They have a plate of the day for CFA 2500 (5 Euro). Very basic no frills restaurant. Take out is also possible. The service is remarkably fast considering the volume of customers.

The Musée Leopold Sedar Senghor is a significant museum in Dakar, Senegal. It serves as the residence of the first Senegalese president, Leopold Sedar Senghor. Constructed in 1978 on an approximately 8,000 m plot, this establishment holds great cultural importance. From 1981 to 2001, Senghor and his family resided here until his passing.
The most intresting olace I've visited in Dakar. Beautiful house of former president of Senegal. Unfortunately we weren't able to take photos inside:(
Magdalena Z — Google review
Lovely home, fascinating history. Senghor moved into this 1970s home upon leaving the presidency of Senegal. The tour guide worked as a member of Senghor's security team during and after Senghor's presidency, traveling the world with him. The guide does not speak English, but if you can understand French you will learn a wealth of fascinating details about the President and his family's life after leaving office. The house itself is breathtakingly beautiful, with tapestries and artwork from around the world. The entry fee is about 3000 CFA. This museum is well worth a visit!

I was walking along the Corniche and by chance I stopped by to check out this place. Blew my mind! This residence is built in traditional African mud home style and currently serves a museum about the life of the first president of The Republic of Senegal, Leopold Senghor. The interior design was unexpectedly amazing and it carried both African and European characteristics. The staff introduced me the museum section by section in French. As a non-French speaker I caught many words but it only gave me a basic idea of the whole thing. If you plan on visiting here, do some research in advance due to lack of information in English.

Great, clean and airy mall. If you're looking for all the brands you live as well as the Senegalese designers....and there's also the Casino supermarket for all you need as well as ATMs. There's only one restaurant which only serves sandwiches...that was my only disappointment...

Sea Plaza offers a decent range of shops—clothing stores, a supermarket, a spa, and a dry cleaner, to name a few—making it one of the better shopping options in Dakar, especially given the limited alternatives. That said, the mall feels like it’s seen better days. The escalators at the entrance never seem to work, which really impacts accessibility. The overall space could benefit from some TLC to make it an even better experience.

Petite Ngor Beach offers a unique Senegalese experience, where local families gather on the sands during weekends. Visitors can enjoy street food, practice French, and relax with a cold drink while observing the lively atmosphere. Despite the presence of goats sifting through washed-up garbage, the beach is generally well-regarded for its bustling environment and easy access to boat rides to nearby islands.
Totally love especially the kids so amazed with us silly foreigners! The goats looking through garbage washed upon the beach is a bit sad but they do look healthy.

It could have been a great beach but half of it (left side) is very dirty with dead rats, fish parts and sewage water on the sand while the other half is so full with sellers and people that it’s difficult to find a place to stand quiet

It's a potential place for tourism but it's full of trash. Trash on the sand, trash on the ocean, trash everywhere. It's a shame and the local population don't seem to care. It's common to see people eating and throwing plastic just right there. Every time I went there it was crowded also, therefore you might consider that if you are planning to go for peace and tranquility, you might not find it kkkk The positive side is that it is always with people there, it looks safe, there is a nice view to the ngor island and there is always available transportation.

Right now (Feb 2023) the whole area behind this small beach is under construction. There used to be lovely little rasta styles cafés with sunbeds and terraces, but no more. You can still rent an umbrella and a blanket from guys on the beach itself, and they can even prepare a meal for you, but it's nothing like it was before. It's also difficult to access because of ongoing constructions. The only reason to go here would be because it's even more "private" and secluded than before, and the beach itself is still clean with big rolling waves. It's reasonably safe for valuables etc, because no people passing through, and it (still) seems to be a place of preference for young mixed couples, which is cute somehow. It's a very small beach though, so you can't really find/claim your own little corner.
Niclas E — Google review
Amazing hospitality from Abdou! All infrastructure has been removed but Abdou said he wanted to ensure there was something there when people turned up. Walk down to abandoned building and then past a couple hundred metres of rocks and you get to a stretch of beach and get taken care of entirely. Abdou provided towels to lie on, umbrella, coffee, peanuts and then his friend even brought over some mussels he had just caught! True showing of teranga

For lovers of photography, walk to the top of the hill and walk through the bush to wards the western and southern part of the park. One can walk to most of the area in an hour or so. Visited the place few weeks back. Maybe my timing was wrong but there was no one at the reception at the moment. So I went at the back to check around. Some hazards need to be fixed. When I returned back then I saw a girl at the reception. The Girl was polite enough but I questioned the price as seems too much. Although some friends said they love it, I personally won't be taking my children there.
Gabriel D — Google review
I do like to come here with my son once in a while. As one of the biggest kid’s playground in Dakar, Senegal, I really recommend this place to every parents that looking for a one-stop playground for their kids in Dakar, because they have many variety of kid’s playground in outdoor and indoor area; trampoline, kid’s shops, cars, bikes, big to small slides, etc. Even they have their own restaurant so parents don’t have to worry about foods and drinks. But, I wonder why almost every corners are so dusty in outdoor and indoor area, not well-maintained and some toys are just not on its place anymore. My son had fun here but I’ve gotta stop him to step on several corners and even to touch some toys just because they are dirty and dusty, especially in outdoor area. I mean isn’t it better if this place could maintain properly their playground so that kids can have fun and get dirty in a good way? Also It’s a good thing that this place provide some nannies that help to look over our kids and sometimes play with them, but sadly not all of them do that, some choose to rest/ sleep inside the indoor area. Like when there no kids around them, can’t they use their spare time to clean the toys as well as the playground area (indoor and outdoor) instead so this place will be even more comfortable? I mention these problems with hope that the management could understand the current situation and take it serious. I do hope this playground could improve many things and obviously last longer than any other paid kid’s playground area though, especially in Dakar

It's a shame I have the feeling that there are a lot of wasted, unmaintained spaces, men will be accountable to the creator for the way they treat animals, it looks more like a prison for animals , the poor. FYI these animals are not made to live in cages with tiled floors. Monkeys climb trees and lions need wide open spaces. Too bad the park is quite pretty even if it lacks maintenance, trash cans are unfortunately part of the landscape in Senegal. Pour info ces animaux ne sont pas faits pour vivre dans des cages avec du carrelage. Les singes grimpent aux arbres et les lions ont besoin de grands espaces .
