Demanding at the beginning. You climb stairs for about 120 meter vertical ascend. Then it is a gentle gradient down. Beautiful views and the path is perfectly maintained.

Italian restaurant
Pomodoro Restaurant is a long-standing establishment in Wilderness, known for its dedication to classic Italian flavors and techniques. While their pasta skills may be lacking, their fresh and delicious ravioli is highly recommended. The restaurant offers a wide range of Italian classics and lesser-known dishes, making it a tough choice for diners. With an outdoor terrace and open French doors, the restaurant provides a perfect setting for people-watching.
My husband and I got married on the 1st of November this year and while we were on honeymoon we came across this amazing restaurant. We played rock paper scissors and even though I won which meant we went to a different restaurant I took him inside and let me tell you it was the best decision ever! This restaurant was spectacular! Service was amazing, staff amazing and funny, drinks Devine and food well I don't even have words to explain the absolutely amazing taste of the food. We have already gone back again to eat there and once again still so amazing 🤩. We will definitely be coming back a third time soon. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who goes to Wilderness it's a true gem 💎

Thoroughly enjoyed the pasta. Was pleased to find blue cheese snails. The polenta was a bit on the dry side other than that, we enjoyed our time at the restaurant. Service was amazing, friendly and helpful people.
Mmaphuti M — Google review
Great pizza and pasta restaurant with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a authentic Italian dinner in South Africa. This place also has amazing deserts and authentic homemade gelato ice cream, really finishing off this resturant.
Ethan B — Google review
We tried Pomodoro in Wilderness three times while we were here and really enjoyed it. The first night we had the carne which was out of this world, even though they only brought the sauce for the steak after we had finished it. The next night we tried the pasta, it was a good solid pasta but could have done with a bit more protein. On our last night we had pizza which was also very good, mine was just a little on the salty side. Overall a really nice experience with excellent service and amazing staff. Also amazing that they are dog friendly
Johannes E — Google review
Whenever we travel through Wilderness, we like to stop here because we just simply love their pizzas and the vibe in the restaurant, especially at dinner, is amazing. Just love it🤗
Bernhard V — Google review
Absolutely lovely spot in the heart of the Wilderness town❤️🌲The street is lined with warm string lights indicating cozy spots with yummy food and Pomodoro is one of those spots. It has a warm established vibe, great lighting and a HUGE menu with so many tasty options. One of if not my only complaint is that the menu has too many tasty options so you might struggle to decide!😂❤️ The staff are so kind (Avalon our waitress was attentive and sweet) and welcoming and my gf and i had a lovely evening here. Perfect for a date night or inside has some great larger table options. If you find yourself in or passing Wilderness, stop by Pomodoro for some authentic Italian vibes in the G route🇮🇹🍝🍕 I had the tiramisu and it comes as close to perfect as they come🤤

Best pizza I've ever had! Also the service was excellent. Will definitely be back again in the future!
Riana H — Google review
A wonderful place that I have been to many times. I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca and it was amazing. The restaurant is very well set up and the staff are very friendly and efficient. On previous visits I have had their Fish Cakes, Snails (both the Garlic butter & Gorgonzola, a few different variety of Pizzas & Pastas. Never disappointed!! A great option in Wilderness

Timberlake Village is a charming collection of independent businesses located on the N2 between Wilderness and Sedgefield. It offers a variety of experiences, including a coffee roastery, restaurant, deli, clothing and crafts shops. The village is family-friendly with a playground and fairy garden for kids to enjoy. Visitors can indulge in artisan breads at Fig Tree Bakehouse or savor freshly roasted coffee at Pause Coffee.
We stopped at Timberwood for a late lunch en route from Cape Town to Knysna. What a gem. We ate at the Naughty Monkey Cafe. Great service and yummy food. Conveniently located just off the N2.

Such a cute place with many little nice shops. A playground for Kids. We saw even a wild monkey there!!! 👏🏼 We had lunch at naughty monkey cafe! It was super delicious!

Wow this is such an awsome village on its own. I cant believe i drove passed it all these years, but was recommended by a friend to pop in @ the naughty monkey and have a bite of Aidens world popular cheese cake.. and the experience was Epic!!! The set up of the place, plenty seating, the peacefulness of the place , enough playground for kids entertainment. Its just WOW.. a must stop.

Wonderfully eclectic mix of little shops to browse around, with activities for the family to enjoy. Enjoyed live music at Zucchini while we are lunch which was fabulous. Pause Coffee was the highlight for me - great coffee, service and just a fabulous vibe.

We stopped in at the Fig Tree Bakehouse for breakfast, a new establishment in the same venue as Zucchini's, the venue is good the bread from the on- site bakery worth sharing, the menu is simple but flavorful, the koffie is a treat. the atmosphere inviting and the service better than most. give it a try 👍🏻

I love stopping at Timberlake Village. Lovely shops, I bought my angel wing earrings from a shop there. Food is delicious, great to walk through a tiny bit interesting art gallery. It is a wonderful place to stop, breathe and energise for the rest of one's journey.

Nice medium-size village market . It is a nice stop between Wilderness Sedgefield. Many resturants. Good coffee shop with fresh roasted coffee. Many arts shops. Many local South-African craft and gift shops. It is good to support the locals when buying from this market. Very good childern playground. Lovely enviroment. Not crowded. Plenty of car parking. Good place for family (with kids) to sit, eat, relax, and enjoy the enviornment for a few hours.

Cafe
Hoekwil Country Cafe is a charming coffee shop located in the picturesque area near Wilderness. It's a popular spot for locals and travelers to enjoy coffee, snacks, and light meals while taking in stunning mountain views. The cafe also features a small grocery store offering locally produced goods. Visitors rave about the baked cheesecake, which has been voted the best in the country.
Quaint, off the main roads coffee/cheesecake shop plus cafe. Relaxing establishment where they speak mostly Africaans and enough English. We were with South African locals who knew Richard, the owner, pleasant and nice gentleman. The cheesecake variety was fantastic. I enjoyed the substantial blueberry cheesecake slice and a powerful and tasty Americano. Seating outdoors and play area for kids. Irene, our server spoke some English and the wonderful sounding Africaans language. Most folks are bilingual and friendly. They clearly could tell I was from the USA 😂😂😂by my western accent. So funny that they need to concentrate to understand me as I need to process their English Great cultural experience. Highly recommend to visit. Thank you for your hospitality 👍👍👍 Bonus, the dollar and/or Euro is about R19.3 to $1.00 so four delicious cheesecakes slices plus for coffees about $20😯
Hector M — Google review
Sweet Treats in Hoekwil 🍰☕ Hoekwil Country Café for cappuccinos and something sweet. We shared two cheesecake slices – Turkish Delight and Salted Caramel. Both were fresh and enjoyable … the Turkish Delight was a bit intense on flavour, but still a fun choice. Such a peaceful little gem to start our Saturday adventure!
Juanita W — Google review
Hands down the BEST cheesecake we have ever had! There are so many flavors to choose from, but the salted caramel and blueberry have to be our favorites! The toasted chicken mayo is amazing as well, and the portions are very generous! Set in the tranquil Wilderness mountain area, it is both quaint and rustic, surrounded by beautiful trees. Well worth the drive just for the cheesecake and the view!

This café is really cute. We had a delicious breakfast here, and the great thing is that there’s a playground!
Beloved P — Google review
I have been waiting and planning to drive up to this famous coffee shop for weeks. Finally we went up for coffee and cake. Only one disappointment, no Baked Cheesecake, only fridge cakes. I did go all the way for a Cheesecake, so we had the Lemon Cheesecake and coffee. Very delicious and great in taste. The small little coffee shop, is friendly and a good quick stop. The prices on the menu is not that cheap. R70 for a small piece of cake, was a bit higher than expected. Good to try and enjoy the peace.
Daleen M — Google review
I visited Hoekwil Country Café yesterday afternoon and ordered a slice of chocolate cheesecake. After I had already started eating, I noticed a clear spot of mold on a piece of chocolate. I immediately showed it to the staff member, who tried to scrape off the white part with a fork to see if it was really mold – which I honestly found quite strange. She then offered me a new slice, but to my shock, that piece also had two visible mold spots. When I pointed this out, she looked at it more closely and said in surprise, “Oh, how can that be – we always check our cheesecakes, they’re not supposed to be sold after seven days.” That actually made me even more uneasy, because personally, I would never keep a cheesecake that long. She apologized several times and eventually brought me a third slice, which she said was from a new cheesecake. However, by then the experience had completely ruined my appetite, and I spent the rest of the afternoon worrying that I might get sick (luckily, I didn’t). Even though the staff member was friendly and genuinely sorry, I find it unacceptable that two slices of the same cake were visibly moldy. This clearly points to issues with storage and quality control. I sincerely hope the café takes this matter seriously and improves its food safety standards in the future. That said, my husband and children had a different kind of cheesecake, and theirs was absolutely delicious. I truly hope the café addresses this issue, because it’s a lovely place otherwise.
Donika S — Google review
The best cheesecake baked by Nienie and fabulous cheesecake in a great spot. Definately worth a detour off the N2

☕ Hoekwil Café = my happy place ☕🌿 If coffee was a religion, their mocha almond latte would be the holy grail. Creamy, nutty, just enough chocolate – basically a hug in a mug. And don’t even get me started on my top-secret chocolate mint cookies – they’re my sneaky little treat for the road home. Honestly, they should come with a warning label: highly addictive. Hoekwil Café isn’t just a stop – it’s an experience. A cozy corner where good coffee, guilty-pleasure cookies, and legendary desserts collide.

Hiking Trails
The Half Collared Kingfisher Trail Gate is a picturesque and well-maintained hiking trail in the Garden Route National Park. To access the trail, visitors need to purchase permits at the entrance using Visa/Mastercard or cash. The hike features diverse terrain, including sage-covered areas and tree-lined paths with natural obstacles like roots and low-hanging branches. A highlight of the trail is crossing the river using a pulley system, adding an adventurous element to the experience.
Beautiful hiking trail rich in fauna and flora Stunning birds on the trail Lovely waterfall experience to relax and enjoy some sun Great that there are some benches to rest at on route Safe, well marked path Enjoyed the pontoon crossing over the river
Meghan M — Google review
Stunning trail in the forests leading to the waterfall where a swim in the cold water is a must. We did the loop up to the top of the mountain which requires some fitness to climb the steep paths, but it's quieter and beautiful.
Gareth D — Google review
Our group view this hike as the most spectacular and best maintained in the Garden Route. Part of the 9km is boardwalk. Only 106m total ascend makes it a very easy, relaxing walk. We encountered numerous visitors (school holidays) and the pools at the falls were enjoyed by many youngsters. The pond allows for a dry river crossing. Look out for the elusive Knysna Loerie.
Conné S — Google review
A magical walk through the forest ending with breathtaking waterfall views. Loved every minute of this trail, lush forest, suspension bridges, and beautiful river pools.

🍄👀 “Biki went mushroom hunting on the Kingfisher Trail in Wilderness! Wow, this forest is like stepping into another world – tall trees, secret rivers, and mushrooms hiding everywhere. 🌳✨ It felt like a real treasure hunt, and I found so many cool shapes and colours! Families, you’ll love this trail – it’s safe, peaceful, and full of God’s little surprises. 🙌 ⭐ StopBiki says: Kingfisher Trail = 5/5 for fun + nature magic!” 💚 #StopBiki #MushroomHunt #Wilderness #SANParks

Not worth the time to hike at all. Very boring paths from start to finish, and on top they charge you 200 zar for permits. I count my blessings nobody was manning the entry stall, and even then I didn't consider it worth my time for free. Waterfall is also being fed with water...

Nature & Parks
Garden Route National Park - Wilderness Section is a forest preserve featuring lakes, rivers, estuaries, and beaches. It has been designated as a Ramsar site due to its importance as wetlands. The park offers nature trails through wooded forests and rivers where visitors can spot various bird species including the Knysna lourie and kingfishers. In spring, the park is adorned with colorful flowers.
We did the Half Collared Kingfisher hike (9km in total) and it’s a stunning walk. Almost all of the route is in shade and the wooden walkways are well maintained. The river crossing on the pontoon is a nice touch! Definitely worth doing if you have the time. The picnic area at Ebb and Flow has been upgraded since we were last there. There is now shade and picnic tables available.
Brad E — Google review
We liked to hike in here. The path was well maintained. But it was crowded and we had to pay a big entrance fee. We like to contribute, but it was overpriced. Robben berg is so much cheaper. And in the george Mountains, it's even free with many more opportunities.
Sandra F — Google review
Great experience, fresh air walks with the kids, the trail is beautiful, well seen walk way, slippery parts especially crossing over the streams so definitely need good shoes going on this. Overall the family time spend and nature explored is well worth it. And the waterfall a definite must see.
Rika O — Google review
Very nice accesible walk under the tree canopies. Long sections have a boardwalk. Lovely sightings of birds.
Henry H — Google review
Beautiful forest untouched and unkempt...a bit too unkept.. The benches and walkways looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks
Bianca A — Google review
Can’t beat the views!! Windy as hell however we loved it 😻
Ant ( — Google review
The place is very well organized. Very beautiful. However, not much activity to do but you can enjoy a good picnic there. Very clean toilet. we did the boat riding, and the most thing that I appreciate is that they were very considering and flexible to our accommodate out request of having a short ride for 40 minutes instead of one hour and half and they gave us a reasonable discounted price. We enjoyed the boat trip very much.
Afra A — Google review
The waterfall area is beautiful, with many large pools perfect for swimming in the heat! The hike concludes with quite a lengthily boardwalk in the trees which is great for spotting birds at eye level and generally getting a nice viewpoint down to the river. The “hike” (more of a walk really) was really easy and I would recommend it to people of all ages and abilities. The only reason it got 4/5 stars is the sheer amount of litter around the waterfall. (More than I could carry back in my small hiking bag)

It was one of the best thing to do for my kids during our holiday in wilderness and George area. Damien was so patient and kind to kids. I think that he is one of the best instructor of all the acro branaches. (We have been to...all other ACRO BRANCHES in Western cape and all in Pretoria.) My kids were so happy to do the acrobranch there in Garden route. Nice pine tree smell everywhere and it is up in the hill so kids could have a good view during the course. Nestled within the stunning Wilderness National Park, Island Lake is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. This picturesque lake, linked to the Touw River by The Serpentine, offers an array of watersports such as boating, canoeing, and fishing. For those seeking adventure, hang gliding or paragliding provides breathtaking aerial views of the surrounding landscapes.
Why is the best skiing water always in the middle of the cold winter? At least there are piping hot showers and warm rondawels for afterward.

Wilderness Beach Front is a luxury boutique hotel situated right on the beachfront of the unspoilt Wilderness Beach. The beach is known for its cleanliness and offers several swimming points with lifeguards during the season. Leuntjies Klip, the first beach, is popular among locals and visitors, although parking can be challenging at times. The beach lacks services, so it's advisable to bring your own refreshments.
One of my favourite BLUE FLAG beaches on the Garden Route. Always clean maned in 2 areas by lifeguards and parking safe. This is a popular beach with locals and visitors alike and there are some lovely homes to stroll around and one of the best kept secrets in the area.
Richard M — Google review
Wide and long beach with limited parking and a bathroom at one end of the beach. Many access stairs along the kilometers to the street. There is a designated landing area for Paragliders that launch from the Map of Africa hill. Mostly families but be aware of the seeded types looking for an opportunity. No matter where you go, there are always the very poor looking for things....
Hector M — Google review
Wilderness beach front is a secret pocket on the Garden Route, just a tiny cove where surfers ride the same waves on loop, cottages cling to the rocks, and the old rail line watches from above. No big resorts, no fuss, just salt, sun, and fried calamari. A small bay with a big horizon, quietly stealing the show.
The G — Google review
Why do we love this beach? He is not like any other. There are great sandy beaches in many places in the world, in Thailand, Mauritius, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and 1,000 other places, but nowhere else. It's a big wonderful huge Indian jacuzzi! You don't need to swim here, you just have to go into the water, and it's not far away, and the rolling waves will create an effect that you won't get anywhere else in the world. Try it yourself and you won't regret anything!
Io L — Google review
Long beautiful beach for extended walks with stunning views
David — Google review
One of the cleanest beaches you will ever see. We appreciate the security on the beach and the several life guard swimming areas. Definetily a must for anyone visiting the Garden Route.
Jacques J — Google review
Everything is clean and well maintained. Disabled and elderly people find it difficult to use toilets. No handls noe wheelchair ramps.
Frik W — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa, kilometers long and beautifully clean. There are several swimming points where life guards are provided during season, current can be strong but the lifeguards choose the safest spots to swim. Leuntjies Klip is the first beach and it's a favorite of locals and visitors, parking can be tough at certain times of year but arrive early and leave before the sun gets too hot. Not a lot of services on the beach so bring your own refreshments. Leuntjies Klip and the main beach near Salinas restaurant provide bathrooms and showers. An incredible beach for an early morning walk it goes on forever.
