Specialty Museums
The Museum of the Goldfields is a must-visit destination, with its prominent Ivanhoe headframe and rich gold-mining heritage. It boasts the largest display of Western Australia's gold bars and nuggets in an underground vault, offering a glimpse into the region's mining tradition. Visitors can step back in time to the Gold Rush era through preserved settings like miners' quarters, offices of entrepreneurs, and a heritage-listed pub.
Great free museum in Kalgoorlie central with interesting displays and information related to the gold and other history of the area. The building is modern and clean. Great views of the area from the poppet. No food available on site but a nice pub next door.
Linda K — Google review
What a great museum to visit in Kalgoorlie, and it was free, a donation is appreciated though. I think most people head straight to the lift to get a great view of the town from the head frame. Bit cold and windy though, May. Then the Gold Room was my next spot and that was so interesting with a good exhibition of gold (of course) both coins, nuggets and daily use items. Then outside there are exhibits to enjoy including a very narrow pub Lovely visit

It's a very inspiring museum, I was impressed with what they teach, the readings, the photos, it has dazzled me. It's very impressive 👏🏼❤️‍🩹 I added some photos but they don't reflect everything the museum has to do with it, its corridors and its stories.
Millaray A — Google review
A very interesting place to come and check out and have a look. As in the things to see and look at. Especially the view of the town from up top of the platform area. I enjoyed my visit
Claude P — Google review
Great display around the first nations people. I was moved by the Edie Ulrich story, what an amazing artist and story teller. So many aspects on display in this well curated museum. The team managing the display were wonderful to talk and a wealth of knowledge. A must see when going to Kalgoorlie.

We had such a wonderful time at the Museum of the Goldfields! The exhibits were fascinating and really brought the history of the goldfields to life. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful — they went above and beyond to assist us, and we felt very welcome throughout our visit. It’s a great place for both adults and kids to explore and learn. We’ll definitely come back again in the future. Highly recommended!

Hannans North Tourist Mine offers an interactive experience for visitors, allowing them to mine their own gold, explore a haul truck, and visit an underground refuge chamber. The site also features period buildings and a recreated 1890s prospectors campsite. Originally a working mine until 1968, the Hainault mine was opened to visitors in 1972 by retired Kalgoorlie miners who conducted underground tours and rock drilling demonstrations.
Yes, an easy 5 stars for Hannans Tourist Mine. Very well done! The ladies were so helpful with enabling my dog to stay in their own kennel area. Shade, bed and water. This gave me good piece of mind. Thank you. The huge displays are great, from the massive trucks, that you can sit in, to the huts that people used to live in. I really enjoyed these. There are toilets around the place which are needed as you’ll spend over an hour here. Then there’s the gold panning and gem streams. I found some nice little pieces of gold but had to get down to the bottom of the ponds to find it. And it’s mucky water! 😂 The shop is great with souvenirs and ice creams available. Well priced too! Well worth the $18 entry and lovely staff, even the young ladies were super helpful and actually cared about their customers, great to see!
Paul S — Google review
This was a great place to learn about the Gold mining history. We loved it, we got to see the trucks they use currently which are huge and also pan for gold which was lots of fun. Great fun places and so much to see.
Tanya L — Google review
A lovely visit to historic open air historic mine museum. Well laid out so we could wander around and look at all the old homes, offices, machinery and facilities of life on the Goldfields. A map was provided so we could take our time to explore. Some of the attractions also had short videos to watch. The best experience was getting up close to the massive trucks that are used at the mines and being able to climb up into them which is something I've always wanted to do. The Chinese Garden of Remembrance , built in recognition of the Chinese miners and other immigrant prospectors who had come to this place was a surprisingly tranquil place in the midst of the mine site. We were not aware of this attraction before coming to Kalgoorlie and only noticed the reference to it at the 'Super Pit' Limit. So definitely a must do if you're out this way.
Marian O — Google review
Loved it. A step back in time to when the region was first opened up by gold mining! This area has an incredible gold mining history. We learned so much about our pioneers of this area including how much-needed water was brought by pipeline from Perth. Definitely worth a visit to learn more.
Jennifer R — Google review
Absolutely worth the visit!! The collection of machinery and mining huts, gear, drilling, and anything else mining-related that is interesting to learn about can all be found here. We got to watch the gold pour, which was phenomenal! Big shout-out to the volunteers Bill and Ray, who gave an excellent spiel with many facts and figures - thank you so much Bill and Ray 👏👏👏 The Gold panning was also a bit of fun, and the volunteer here was super helpful.
Jenny — Google review
Well worth a visit! Hannans North Tourist Mine is a great place to spend a few hours if you are interested in the history of the goldfields and gold mining. The centre is very well set up with original buildings and mining equipment from the day used in the displays. The young lady who was on duty today was so informative, knowledgeable and full of passion for her job was just the icing on the cake to a great morning in Kalgoorlie!
Liz N — Google review
Do yourselves and the kids a favour, head to Hannans Nth Tourist mine. Again, loved it. So much to see and do. $18 each for adults, check for the littleuns. The scale of some of these things is mind boggling. There is all round access for wheelchairs, including a ramp up to the deck of the big dozer. Not the dump truck unfortunately 😕 Crushed rock in most areas, and a little undulating, but manageable I think. The history is fascinating and just shows the hardship encountered as well as the ingenuity of the times. Without it all, where would we be now. Try your luck at some Gold panning while there. There is also a where's Wally type hunt for the kids to have a crack at.
Crian M — Google review
Well worth a visit and the $18 per adult entry. Got to sit in a huge wheel loader and climb a massive haulpak. Super interesting. Nice little gift shop. Tea , coffee and some snacks available. Good parking. Take some care on the road in and out - potholey. Remembrance garden pond could do with a clean out. You can pan for “gold” - I scored half a dozen gem stones but no gold. Great one for visitors! Staff were friendly and very helpful and informative.

Park
Nature & Parks
Karlkurla Bushland Park Entrance is a 200-hectare natural regrowth bushland in Kalgoorlie-Boulder at Hannan. The park features over 2,000 trees and shrubs planted by community volunteers in 2000. Visitors can enjoy a 4km walking trail surrounded by native bushes, trees, and small plants. The park's trails are suitable for strolling, biking, or scooter riding as they are well-paved and relatively flat.
Kalgoorlie should be very proud of this wonderful adventure playground. I went there a few days ago with my grandchildren aged 10 and 3. There was so much for them to do. Their favourites were the big green slide and the flying fox. I have to admit Nana didn't enjoy climbing inside the wooden frame to ensure the safety of the 3 year old on the big green slide. An alternative way to get to the top of the slide would be good. We all loved the flying fox. The harnessed seat was great for both of my grand kids. The 10 year old used the sit on disk as well with no issues. My only gripe would be that there are no areas fully protected from the rain. We left early as we got soaked seeking shelter under the shade cloth. I note that there were BBQ facilities, nature walks, water play, climbing apparatus, musical instruments and a roundabout. Sadly the rain stopped us from trying these out. The flies were annoying so I would suggest wearing a fly net.
Jenny M — Google review
Nice pleasant stroll. Numerous people walking and riding. A couple of hours well spent. Although the path is wheelchair friendly, perhaps the stairs at the lookout are less so. Didn't notice any amenities or playgrounds, but numerous dogs were being walked responsibly. You could quite easily have a picnic, but not sure of a BBQ.
Crian M — Google review
Numerous routes could be chosen. I chose the shortest one (<1km). You could see bushes and natural scenes all around the walking path. The best walking park in Kargoolie for me.
LucyLiao — Google review
One of the best parks for exercise, such as hang and jog. There are also games for children related to minerals and another of archaeology.
Millaray A — Google review
Stunning. STUNNING park. If the last tree I ever saw was a Salmon Gum and the last park I ever walked in was Karlkurla (Garl-gu-la), I’d be pretty happy.
Marcus E — Google review
Great walk with wildflowers and wildlife. Lots of flies though, so be prepared for this!
Emily M — Google review
4 out of 5! In Kalgoorlie this is the best on offer in terms of walking park. Which is a bit sad for what is the largest mining town in WA. The good is that it is clean with multiple routes you can take, up to around 4km if you like or just a small loop less than 1km. There are a few drink fountains and toilets. At least one water fountain isn't working, so best to bring some water. The bad are the flies, very annoying and there are no lights at dark. Would be wonderful to install solar charging lights along the path so we can go walking later at night. Installing fitness equipment could also be something to think about to take this park to the next level.
Philip H — Google review
My favourite special morning walk when I visit Kalgoorlie. A special place to explore you can walk, run ,and learn about all the native plants and trees along the way. The full loop is 5kms . The viewing platform has fabulous views of the surrounding bushland . ❤️

Gold on the Ground. The Oasis Recreation Centre lives up to its name and more. It is more than an Oasis. It is the real gold of Kalgoorlie. It is a recreation, gym, pool, and sports facility like nothing else I have seen in Western Australia. If you're passing through, staying, holidaying or working in the mines, make sure to visit this amazing place. Fitness lovers, sports enthusiasts, water lovers...it is a must.

So difficult to find lane availability on line ??? Disappointed that you have to ware a stupid band on your arm, it’s so annoying when doing serious lap swimming! And I don’t understand why the pool has to be converted to 25 metres with a wall ? We have visited many pools around WA , this complex is the worse run pool ! So disappointed!!

i lovee this pool, go here all the time during summer can’t wait to go again! 🌊🪩

The gym is great. Has good quality techno gym equipment. Good range of machines. I was only here for two weeks, but the sales consultant worked out a good deal for me. Change rooms and showers could be improved. Things like soap and decent lockers would be good.

Facilities are great, having both a hydrotherapy pool (much warmer) and a 50 metre pool and the spas are very relaxing. The gym is well equipped and cater well for injury recovery. The staff are absolutely awesome!! Very friendly and helpful 😊 Can't wait to be able to use the water slide!

5Super Pit

Mine
The Super Pit, situated just west of Kalgoorlie's city center, is a massive open-pit gold mine that was once part of the renowned Golden Mile. Spanning 3.5 kilometers in length and 1.5 kilometers in width, this operational mine yields over 800,000 ounces of gold annually. Visitors can opt for a guided tour to gain insights into the mining operations or simply enjoy panoramic views from the lookout at the end of Outram Street in Boulder.
Of the largest open mines in the world. Work is also being done on tunnels. Almost every day you can see how some part of the mine is detonated.
Mayor M — Google review
Bus tour of the Superpit booked through Kalgoorlie Tourist bureau in Hannan st, near St Barbara's Square, $70 adults, $49 children(September 2024). The tour went for 90 minutes on a comfortable air conditioned bus. My elderly mum had no issues getting on and off the bus as the driver was able to lower the step. No toilet on the bus, though public ones are available ¬ 200 metres from the tourist bureau(go before you get on the bus as none available during the tour). The bus driver had an extensive knowledge of the history of Kalgoorlie, talking about C Y O'Connor the engineer behind the pipeline taking water from Mundaring Weir to Kalgoorlie and other bits of town history. The tour does not go to the base of the superpit as it is a working mine site. It goes ¬ half way down to a lookout only accessible on the tour. It was interesting to see the huge trucks used in the mine and see how big the tyres were. The only criticism would be the bus driver kept his microphone on when not talking, it was off putting to hear his heavy breathing. I would recommend this tour to those wanting to experience the size of this operation and learn some of the Goldfields history. I was very amused at the number of tourists picking up "fools gold" from the lookout site. This must happen on every tour, it glitters like gold! The tour is a bit pricey for what it is but it does provide an inside look at the huge size of this operation
Jenny M — Google review
Didn't get to do the tour as it no longer runs over the weekends. But the lookout was informative and in a good location for viewing the pit. We were lucky enough to witness a blast as well which was pretty spectacular.
Michelle P — Google review
Really cool experience and getting an up close and personal experience with some heavy machineries. Taking the tour is the best way to go as the tour guide will explain the mining operations and any observations.

Holiday park
BIG4 Acclaim Prospector Holiday Park is a great choice for travelers exploring the Nullarbor region. The park offers straightforward cabins with kitchen facilities and free Wi-Fi, as well as an outdoor pool and BBQ area. It's conveniently located near Kalgoorlie, known for its gold-rich surroundings. The park also provides a 24-hour caravan/RV site at Hannan Park.
Stayed here 3 nights can not fault park . check in very friendly helpful funny staff , lovely shady site , easy to access. Amenities 8 very clean tidy toilets and showers ( curtain and mat)with amazing water pressure. Plenty washing machines and driers, and 4 clothes lines. Great pool. Located 5 mins walk to restaurant/ hotel and service station. Off main road so no traffic noise . Loved our stay here . Well done guys
Shop P — Google review
Worse Big 4 we have ever stayed at. Should NOT be able to use the Big 4 name. Older lady in reception was just rude. The amenities are old, half of the showers were out of order, and the maintenance was non-existent. 1 day of rain and the drive through turned into a mud pit. Do yourself a favour and stay at the free camp down the road, it is 100% better and save yourself $50 a night.
Mick R — Google review
The old lady that managers the property is rude and unhelpful. The park itself is extremely old and run down, I can’t believe Big 4 have allowed their name to be associated with this park. The amenities is extremely outdated with timber rot in each shower cubicle, always closed first thing in the morning when everyone’s wanting to shower. The men’s showers flood which is extremely unhygienic There’s only one dump point for the entire property which I suspect is illegal and doesn’t comply with WA council regulations as it’s just a hole in the ground with a piece of timber over the top Limited washing machines and dryers which are also extremely old and do not wash your clothes properly. The dryer took 60mins and clothes still not dry. Had to go to town to use laundry mat. The older lady at front desk charges everyone different rates. We stayed exact same dates as another couple who had one extra child than I did and her daily rate was $55 and mine was $77. You’re better off staying at the free camp down the road. Because the park is all gravel and dirt when it rains it becomes a massive mud puddle Constant water outages without any notice for patrons to prepare Lots of confusion about sites and boundary’s as not very well marked out Overall the owners need to find a new park manager and spend some money revamping the park or sell it so someone else can!
Sunand S — Google review
Check in was easy with a friendly young lady in reception. Very tired old park. Not what you expect in a Big4 park. Amenities very old 4 out of 8 showers working. Would definitely stay elsewhere if in Kalgoorlie again. Check out was an old lady who must have being the one mentioned in other reviews.
Bob H — Google review
Shouldn’t be classed as a Big 4. Apparently races were on the weekend so rates hit nearly $80 a night. Worst Big 4 I have ever stayed in. Everything is so run down. Half the showers are out of order. Half the park is dirt and if it rains it’s a mud pit. On the bright side it has a good camp kitchen but that’s it
Jane S — Google review
Good sized caravan site amongst mature trees. Front office people good. Facilities functional but all in a quite poor state of repair if not out of service. Cost of site at the higher end of the range. Not recommended.
Paul R — Google review
Do not recommend this caravan park. It shouldn’t have the big 4 name which is a shame. We are big 4 members traveling and we were so disappointed by this caravan park. The lady manager in the office is nothing but rude. The caravan park needs a revamp with showers that flood and a dump point that surly can not be compliant being a hole in the ground with a piece of timber ontop of it. If wanting a caravan park in the local area consider the discovery park or free camp.
Tara S — Google review
It is an unattractive park as very dry and gravelly where we stayed. Some large buses under maintenance close to the office which did not help the appearance. Still the park is quite busy. The park is under renovation at present so portable toilets and showers have been provided for the main camping area. The park is quite big and only a few amenities are provided and a long walk to showers/ toilets and laundry from some sites. We opted for an ensuite site on this occasion and this facility was very clean and functional. There is a lovely pool and children’s playground located in the centre along with a decent camp kitchen. Staff were friendly and helpful. Located close to the highway so traffic noise is noticeable. Hoping the renovation improves the park for future stays.

This vibrant shop offers a delightful selection of merchandise and console games that cater to all types of gamers. The staff, known for their warmth and helpfulness, go above and beyond to assist customers.
I came in on the 17th August to look for an extension to the Catan board game. I was warmly greeted by Xian as soon as I walked in the shop. She was extremely helpful and explained they don’t always stock in shop but would gladly look to see if she could order it in. She located it in minutes and made the process very easy with her efficiency and friendliness. I already received the product today! (23rd) just in time for my games event tomorrow. Thank you EB Games and the lovely girl behind the desk! I will be coming to you for all my future needs.

Wondered into EB Games in Kalgoorlie today in second thought lying to myself. I'll just have a look at the anime merch, and see what new 'One Piece' apparel there is, if any. I'm not spending money. Immediately, and to my surprise I was greeted upon entry and I almost didn't think Taasha was talking to me. She is a brilliant salesperson and a horrible person 🙃❤️. Why, you might ask? She talked shop with my about 'One Piece'. She relentlessly showed me the things I really wanted intuitively. Her customer service, sales skills, listening skills and genuine approach was delightful. Also, she is a horrible person, because she could easily bankrupt me single handed on a retail binge. An amazing asset to the store. Business owner please give this woman a raise.

Finally having the item I wanted to go on sale, Just to find out the box is "empty" and it had not been reordered. I was pretty disappointed but I guess it was my fault for expecting a boxes product on the shelf to be available for sale... Fast forward 4 days I drop in on the off chance it was reordered, and boom there's one on the shelf. Oh boy, lucky days. I take it to the counter and the manager hands me off to one other sale assistant which ok because she has personal issues with me ( which I completely understand and was handled in a very professional manner). Unfortunately, they look at each other and question whether it was restocked. As it happens it wasn't, I wondered why the box would have been returned to the shelf but the I left the store disappointed twice in four days. Lowered the stars 1, sorry will try again in 6 months to give you a chance to improve rating

Established with a commitment to preserving and sharing historical narratives, this site offers an extensive collection of photographs and documents that illuminate the lives of ancestors who braved the harsh conditions of early Australia. Users have expressed their delight in discovering images from places like Siberia near Leonora, which showcase both personal stories and broader historical contexts.
Outback family history site has been fabulous. I have discovered many historical photos of places my ancestors lived ..such as Siberia north of Leonora and aspects of family lives on both sides of the family. I enjoy seeing the amazing photos shared by fellow enthusiasts and I was once bored by history! It keeps me interested and I enjoy seeing all the aspects and depictions of how amazing our ancestors were coming to such a hard country with little infrastructure or water. Thanks for the shared content! It’s amazing!

This website is amazing for the research and details of the history of the Goldfields. I often use it in research for articles on my travel website, or just for the interest of the rugged past of living in the heyday of the early gold finds.

Hammond Park, situated in the northeastern part of Kalgoorlie, is a serene and popular recreational spot for both locals and tourists. The park features various wildlife such as peacocks, kangaroos, emus, and a variety of birds. Visitors can enjoy picnics on the grassy areas or explore the miniature Bavarian Castle adorned with local gemstones. Additionally, there are playgrounds for children to enjoy and a kiosk open on specific days.
A great park for smaller kids. Everything very well maintained. There is a playground. Also, a series of cages with different types of birds: cockatoos, parrots, a peacock, emus, peasants. There is a pool with ducks. The park also has plenty of shaded tables, cz hairs and BBQ facilities. Plenty of free parking
Ming K — Google review
This park is fantastic! The rotunda, the exotic birds, and a cockatoo that talks, a turkey called Hector. The park is well kept and is great place to take the kids. There are even kangaroos and emus. We really enjoyed our time there.
Debra G — Google review
This park is a great spot for a picnic! There’s even a designated BBQ area, which is perfect for grilling. Peacocks and ducks casually walk by while you relax, and there are plenty of birds in cages to watch. Two parrots named Joe and Mecca will even say hello and dance if you tell them “dance cocky” – it’s adorable! The only downside is that I couldn’t find any water taps anywhere.
Maryam A — Google review
One of the best places to visit in Kalgoorlie, you get to have a quick scan of the variety of wildlife and amazing view of the nature. Place that brings smile on your face and gives you peace of mind. #No entry fees 🤩🕊️🥰

Beautiful grounds, but if you've ever seen birds mucking around in the wild, this place will make you sad :( There are so many in cages, and I didn't notice any signs explaining why. Hopefully they are rescues (?) but if so, we should make that clear so as not to encourage others to unnecessarily cage them.
Naomi M — Google review
Very good park this one with all the facilities. Interesting to come to and check out. Especially with the animals that are here. Good to bring the kids here
Claude P — Google review
Beautiful park which is full of wildlife: peacocks, birds, emus, turkeys and kangaroos.
Emily M — Google review
Visited here with family whole they held a spring fare. Lots of stalls promoting charities and businesses. Plenty of food outlets. We'd love to visit when it's quieter. There was lots of parking considering it was busy. The Arboretum is across the road and a paddock next door where you can see emus, kangaroos and othe wildlife safely.
