Svyato Uspenskiy Kafedral'nyy Sobor G. Smolensk, also known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a significant religious site in Smolensk. Constructed at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, this cathedral holds historical and spiritual importance. Visitors describe it as a serene place for prayer and reflection, with its stunning interior and miraculous icon.
Beautiful! PS I'm an American.

(Translated by Google) There were a lot of people on Christmas Day, so we looked at the interior decoration through the doors. The temple is visible from everywhere, because it stands on a mountain. The road to it in bad weather can be unpleasant for a pedestrian. Bolshaya Sobornaya Street is not that big, and every now and then people get splashed with mud by cars passing by.

(Translated by Google) The magnificent Assumption Cathedral is a real pearl of Smolensk. You can see it from afar, and when you get closer, you are struck by the scale and beauty of the architecture. It is very light and spacious inside, the atmosphere is peaceful. A separate plus is that there is a small shop on the territory where you can buy fresh bread for only 50 rubles. A great place to feel the spirit of the city and touch history.

(Translated by Google) We visited Smolensk and definitely went to the Holy Dormition Cathedral. The Cathedral is very beautiful, captivates with its grandeur. But there is one "but". This is the observation deck behind the Cathedral. It is all overgrown with weeds, which in some places are higher than the waist. Thistle thorns cling to clothes. Why can't everything be mowed down and make a visit to the observation deck comfortable for tourists?

(Translated by Google) The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the cathedral of the Smolensk Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church. Located in the central part of the city of Smolensk on Cathedral Hill. Erected at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. An amazing place for the soul, where the Lord embraces you with his love! I like to come to the cathedral when there are not many people, I can calmly pray, turn to God, the Most Holy Theotokos, and the saints of God. You can venerate any icon with prayer and request; there are places where you can simply sit and breathe the spirit of the cathedral, this is especially important for elderly and sick people. Of course, on great holidays there is Grace everywhere, it’s just very crowded, you have to stand close together. Go enjoy God's house, its splendor and its beauty. Think about saving your soul!!! God bless you!!!

(Translated by Google) The temple is majestic, unusually beautiful, gracious. The impression is spoiled by the "auntie", who imagined herself to be something, exalted at the table with a sign. She takes upon herself the right to decide some and not to confuse others to the icon. A backward bureaucrat, apparently. Well, if you have such an honor to turn the temple with flowers, then you should not sleep for long, do it in advance, do not take a sin on your soul not to let people near the icon before the holiday, you will be known as wretched in mind (Original)

(Translated by Google) I don’t know how to evaluate this church. After all, he himself is magnificent as a work of architectural art. It rises majestically above the surrounding streets, and the red brick adds even more beauty. But he is steadily coming to his end. The masonry is crumbling over time; the once beautiful stained glass windows have long been covered with bricks. You can't get inside. And clearly no one is doing any work behind the fence. We travel a lot and have something to compare with; it’s a shame to see that in Russia they can’t put such an architectural monument in order. But he can still be saved.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful (despite its current state) and undoubtedly unique place!!! As long as I live I can’t understand why this beautiful place is so abandoned!?!? Doesn’t the leadership of the city or region really need this? After all, if the leaders wish, I think it’s possible to find an investor without any problems who will bring this unique monument into a worthy appearance, if not as a religious building, then for example as a museum. After all, this is our story, no matter what it is, there is no escape from it! It's a shame that no one understands this yet.

(Translated by Google) The amazingly beautiful church was created in the neo-Gothic style in 1898 according to the design of M.F. Meischner. At the beginning of the 20th century, the parish numbered 9,000 believers. The temple was adjacent to more than 8 hectares of land with many buildings. In the 20s, the church was looted; by the end of the 30s, the Smolensk Catholic community was almost completely exterminated, and the building has since been under the jurisdiction of the NKVD. In 2013, the funds of the State Archives were moved to a new building, but the former temple is still empty and is gradually being destroyed.

Church
Nestled in the picturesque Flenovo farm, Tserkov' Soshestviya Svyatogo Dukha stands as a remarkable testament to early 20th-century architecture. This church, designed by the talented S. V. Malyutin alongside M.K. Tenisheva and Barshchevsky, is not just an ordinary place of worship; it also serves as the final resting place for Prince Temishev. The interior boasts stunning artwork by N.K.

The author of the interior paintings and the unusual mosaic “The Savior Not Made by Hands” above the entrance to the church is N.K. Roerich. Due to non-standard, non-canonical images, the Church of the Holy Spirit was not consecrated and no services were held in it. Looted and partially destroyed during the Soviet period. At the moment, work is underway to restore the interior decoration of the church according to the sketches preserved in Flenovo. Cathedral
Epiphany Cathedral, located next to the Dormition Cathedral, was constructed between 1782 and 1787 as a replacement for an earlier wooden version. It served as a winter church for the summer Dormition Cathedral. The cathedral is adorned in a similar color scheme to its larger neighbor, creating a harmonious church ensemble.
(Translated by Google) The cathedral amazes with its grandeur. I especially liked the one-of-a-kind icon of the Mother of God, which is kept in the cathedral. There is peace and quiet inside the cathedral. I felt calm and peaceful. This is a place of power!!!

(Translated by Google) The Gate Epiphany Church was originally built in 1708 - 1712 on a high stone foundation with a vaulted passage to the bishop's courtyard. In 1781, the wooden cathedral was dismantled and by 1787 a brick cathedral was erected on this site. Together with the bell tower and the Assumption Cathedral, it forms a wonderful temple complex in the Baroque style. The temple does not have a parish. Used for bishop's services in the cold season. Stores icons of the 15th century and more ancient holy relics.

(Translated by Google) Before the revolution it was a winter temple. Since the Assumption Cathedral was a summer church. Heating in the Assumption Cathedral appeared only at the end of the 19th century. The parish of the Epiphany Cathedral was very rich. All this was lost during the troubled times after 1917. Now the rich painting has been preserved only in the apse of the altar.
