Eglise Notre-Dame la Grande is a Romanesque church located in Poitiers, France, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. It features a painted stone interior and stained-glass windows. The church's facade, completed during the days of Alienor of Aquitaine, is considered one of the most impressive Romanesque facades globally.
Beautiful Church, and probably the most beautiful "Romane" architecture style church in France. I recommend to walk by also at night, it is simply magical. Just look at the pictures.
Dan M — Google review
Looks pretty from the outside but it's closed due to renovation so unable to see inside. The picture boards on the outside seem to illustrate and beautiful interior, so it was a shame we couldn't see it all when we visited Poiters.
Matt- F — Google review
Amazing experience, after many gothic churches, to see this romanique one give you a big surprise. The only pity is that it is closed for many works of renovation
Manucsn — Google review
We found Our Lady the Great (Notre-Dame la Grande) to be a beautiful eleventh century church. This is a Romanesque design so it is much darker inside compared with the later gothic cathedrals. The interior is also filled beautifully painted support columns. This is a really impressive thousand year old church.
Louis E — Google review
Wonderfully preserved, beautiful old church - exterior and interior. Amazing painted pillars, decorated side chapel ceilings and stained glass. We had the extra joy of a solo with organ rehearsal. Free entry, short walk from Hotel de ville. Quiet as no market on a Monday
Lindsey H — Google review
A very ancient church, medium sized but contains a lot of history with beautiful stained glass and painted ceilings. Located in the heart of the old Poitiers village. Very quaint.
Ian B — Google review
Such a beautiful church, loved all the small details on the pillars, the statues and the paintings, beyond extraordinary.

An impressive church both due to its age and architecture, different from other churches due to its darkness

The Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Poitiers, also known as the Poitiers Cathedral, is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture located in the heart of Poitiers, France. Construction on this ancient Catholic landmark began in 1162 and took over 200 years to complete. The cathedral is renowned for its ornate facade and stunning 13th-century stained-glass windows.
Very majestic, beautiful place to visit.
FEDDAR M — Google review
built in the 12th-13th century, with magnificent stained glass windows and paintings. Looking above the choir, you can admire one of the oldest stained-glass windows in France. This is the Crucifixion window, which measures 3.10m wide and 8.35 m high. It was commissioned by Eleanor of Aquitaine in the years 1160 to 1170, when the current Gothic cathedral was beginning to be built.
Xavier L — Google review
It is the outside that makes this building into a cathedral as it is spoiled with 3 different arches heavily decorated. The interior only has in parts of the church his medieval paintwork and it also contains some exceptional glass windows which are abundantly detailed with scenes from the live of Jesus.
Bart E — Google review
Poitiers is famous for its historic victories over Al-Andalus, particularly the Battle of Tours and Portiers in early 8th century, where Charles Martel halted the advance of Muslim forces into Western Europe. These victories marked a turning point in European history and helped preserve Christian rule in continental Europe („Rettung des Abendlandes“). Poitiers Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of Poitiers. Built mainly in the 12th-13th centuries, it is a prime example of early Gothic architecture in western France. Commissioned by King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine, the cathedral features a wide façade with three large doorways and stunning stained glass windows, including a famous 12th-century Crucifixion window. The interior is spacious, with a wooden vaulted ceiling and richly decorated choir stalls.
Uly W — Google review
Stunning cathedral and one that should he visited and seen when in Poiters. So much to see inside as each part has a unique feature. Beautiful and peaceful 🙏
Matt- F — Google review
Saint-Pierre de Poitiers Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Poitiers, in the Vienne department and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is the seat of the archdiocese of Poitiers. In addition to its title of archiepiscopal church, it has had the rank of minor basilica since March 1, 1912. Less well known than the Notre-Dame-la-Grande church, this immense stone vessel is nevertheless the largest religious building in the city and a landmark visible from afar in the urban landscape. Built on the initiative of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II Plantagenêt from 1160, consecrated in 1379, it is in the Angevin Gothic style (use of curved vaults on a square plan) and is similar to the hall churches by its division into three vessels of almost equal height. The façade, flanked by two unfinished towers, borrows elements from the stylistic grammar of northern France. The interior preserves stalls from the 13th century and a collection of historiated stained-glass windows dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, including a Crucifixion, one of the peaks of French medieval stained glass art. The current cathedral was begun in the second half of the twelfth century, around 1162 according to Abbé Auber; it was financed by the bishop and the cathedral chapter but also perhaps by the Duchess of Aquitaine, Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204), and her husband Henry II of England Plantagenêt (1133-1189), as by all the faithful. The construction was long because the church was not definitively consecrated until October 17, 1379. The construction was carried out in seven successive campaigns. They did not follow a predefined plan, which explains many repentances and resumptions during the construction site. Indeed, the initial party, an Angevin Gothic with curved vaults, appeared more and more archaic as the work lengthened. The desire to build up to date clashed with the constructive choices made during previous work.

Nestled in the charming town of Poitiers, the Musée Sainte-Croix is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts and art lovers alike. Opened in 1974, this striking concrete and glass building houses an impressive array of artifacts that span from prehistoric times to the Roman era. Visitors can marvel at Gallo-Roman fragments and exquisite examples of Romanesque art, including a whimsical sculpted capital depicting two elderly men playfully tugging at each other's beards.
Great museum in the middle of Poitiers. Staff were friendly and helped us navigate throughout the museum's layout (it's like a maze in the best possible way). The only thing to note was that all the descriptions were in french, however we just utilised Google translate on our phones and had no issues whatsoever. Definitely worth a visit.

Jonathan L — Google review
Fantastic museum. It was free to visit and contains some wonderful works by the recently re-evaluated Camille Claudel juxtaposed next to her teacher and lover Rodin, as well as many other works from ancient to 20th century. You will need a good hour or more to see everything. My only criticism is that it would be nice to have a multilingual audio guide or telephone app so as to access more information in multiple languages. One of the highlights of Poitiers and seemingly under-promoted by the city council. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.
53 M — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. We were very impressed by this modern concrete maze of a museum and art gallery, most of which is beneath street level. It covers pre historic, Roman, Medieval history and some stunning art and sculpture. We had to resort to Google translate as our French isn’t good enough to understand the descriptions. If you like Brutalist architecture this place is a hidden gem.
Anne S — Google review
Worth a visit. I found the prehistoric and Roman sections the most interesting - as well as the brutalist museum building that is an exhibit in and of itself! The ladies on reception were lovely too.

A decent museum where especially the section with Roman artefacts is interesting. The paintings are from local artists, although the sculptures are of a top quality. As is free to visit I would certainly recommend this.

As you wander through the charming streets of Poitiers, make sure to visit the Church of Sainte-Radegonde, a site steeped in rich history and serene ambiance. This remarkable church is dedicated to Saint Radegonde, a significant figure who transitioned from being a Frankish queen to founding France's first women's abbey in 552 AD. After escaping an oppressive marriage, she devoted her life to aiding the less fortunate and was known for her miraculous deeds.
A church which gives you an idea of how old the city of Poitiers is, it has artistic paintings and the place of Saint Radegonde who patronized Poitiers city and gave it the pride its enjoying today. For a person who like to spend time in silence and feel the peaceful ambience the perfect spot and one can pay deep respect for the wonders of the artistic works of ancient and roman time. One of the 3 femms of Poitiers. Must visit.

Pekka H — Google review
This is a very beautiful church not far down the hill from Cathedrale St Pierre. It is not as light as the Gothic church, and fewer people. Beautiful frescoes have survived above the choir. What you have to go here to see is the tomb. There is a crypt under the choir with the remains of St Agnes of Poitiers, among others. The stone sarcophagus is really eye catching lit around with candles. Don't miss
Ryan G — Google review
This church is so remarkable! The single Gothic nave isn't any Siegel, but the Roman choir and a vast crypt, these are absolutely unique! There is also a sarcophagus with Saint Radegonde. Really worth visiting.
Dominik V — Google review
Very Medieval Church built around the 6th century. Its name taken from Frankish queen and nun, Radegund, buried in the church, considered a Saint. The current Church is a combination of Romanesque and Angevin Gothic, constructed from 11th to 12th century. This is build in Latin Cross shape. It is one of many stunning churches in Poitiers. A must visit in this quiet but beautiful French town.

The Baptistère Saint-Jean in Poitiers is considered the oldest Christian church in France, with origins dating back to the 4th century. It underwent alterations in the 7th century and features a large octagonal pool for baptism, reflecting the practices of Merovingian times. Visitors can explore an archaeological museum inside, showcasing Merovingian sarcophagus covers and impressive murals from the 12th and 13th centuries adorning its walls.

Entered the building intending to pay and there was a couple already having a talk from the person working there, so we waited by the door. The guide then stopped, looked us up and down and asked if we knew we had to pay and "if we could hear her over there", as if we were trying to steal a tour. There was an open door and then no-one in the ticket booth, so I'm not sure what we were expected to do. We left without going in any further.

Beautiful monument the Saint John baptistry is reputed to be the oldest existing Christian building in Europe. A must see.
Crmier — Google review
Supposedly the oldest existing Christian building in the West and a spectacular example of Merovingian architecture. Interesting part of the history of this building was that it was abandoned around late 1700 during the "Revolution", confiscated from the church, sold to a private citizen who used it as a warehouse! Repurchased and saved from demolition, underwent restoration in the mid 20th century. Worth exploring.
Antoine M — Google review
7th century (c. 630-700), a rare Merovingian period monument preserved in an elevated position in France, houses a rare baptistery. Having the chance to visit this baptistery reminded me of Ravenna.

Church
The Church of Saint-Hilaire the Great in Poitiers is a significant pilgrimage site, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was constructed in the 11th century and is believed to be built upon the tomb of Saint Hilary, the first Bishop of Poitiers. The church served as the focal point for a surrounding neighborhood and had its own protective enclosures.
11th century UNESCO - one of 78 buildings (including, for example, Saint Sernin, the Pont Valentre, the Pilgrims' Hospital of Pons, etc.) on the four French pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.
Xavier L — Google review
As half of the church was destroyed after the French revolution (used as a stone carry), only the upper part is authentic as the neve and facade were rebuild. But the roman architecture is however wurth while the visit as the repetitive arches within the church gives it a real distinctive atmosphere.

Aymen S — Google review
Magical, elegant and beautiful historical ambience. It's history is a fascinating one which dates back to the 11th century. As you approach this church you are immediately drawn to her unusual and unique style. It was damaged during the French Revolution and was restored in the second half of the nineteenth century. A great atmosphere that welcomes all ages, backgrounds and religious beliefs. It's wheelchair friendly and highly recommended for the whole family. It's easily accessible if you're staying in Poitiers or accessible from surrounding areas by public transport or driving. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site bestowed in 1998. A charming and beautiful Church.
Antoine M — Google review
The church of St. Hilaire is one of the most important monuments in Poitiers for a number of reasons. First of all, it retains a good deal of it's 11th century construction and sculpture. This is unusual in French cities, where the rise of Gothic architecture tended to result in the tearing down of Romanesque churches in favor of the elegant new trends of the 13th century on. The current incarnation was built with a timber roof, but when that was replaced with stone vaulting, the nave was found to be too wide to support the weight of the stone above, so some innovative measures were taken in the form of an extra row of piers on each side of the nave to help lessen the span to be supported by the exterior buttresses. The scale of the church is massive, not necessarily in height, but in the volume of the building. Walk slowly down an aisle on one side, traverse the chevet slowly, marvel at the changing light, the 11th and 12th century carvings on the capitals and interior corbels, the remnants of Romanesque frescoes, and try to imagine how a rural medieval pilgrim would have reacted to a structure of this magnitude. You can easily spend an hour or more soaking up the peaceful ambience of the place. Another point of interest about this structure is the fact that part of the west end is missing, as this building was partially destroyed in quarrying activity following the French Revolution. Much of the vaulting in the nave and the western façade were rebuilt during the late-19th century reconstruction boom led by such people as Violet-le-Duc and Joly-Laterme. However, the building is NOT from the 19th century, as another reviewer has stated. St. Hilaire is a remarkable example of 11th and 12th century Romanesque architecture that, despite the relatively small areas of 19th-century reconstruction, is remarkably well preserved. It sits atop the central butte of Poitiers, some distance from the Centre Ville, but it is well worth the hike to get there. It is one of the places I visit every time I am in Poitiers.
Holly S — Google review
Photographs cannot capture the majesty and scale of this 11th century church. Poitiers is a very beautiful and ancient town, the people are friendly, it's easy to navigate and there is so much to see.

Les Archives is a unique dining destination located in the heart of Poitiers, housed in a beautifully renovated 19th-century chapel. The establishment offers a fusion of modern and traditional French cuisine with an emphasis on inventive global flavors. The restaurant's menu showcases a creative selection of dishes that highlight vegetables and fruits, catering to vegetarian diners. Guests can also enjoy delicious cocktails alongside their meals in the neo-Gothic ambiance of the former Jesuit chapel.
We were staying at the Hotel Mercure and normally wouldn’t dream of using the hotel restaurant as we prefer to explore the town. However, in this case, we took a look at the gorgeous dining room, which looks like the church it once was, and decided to try it. We were not disappointed! We had the extremely well priced vegetarian menu at €40 with a 2 glass wine pairing at €12 each. The food was delicious and the wines were perfect. A highlight was our wonderful waiter, Virgil, who was both extremely professional and so charming. We would definitely recommend eating at this beautiful restaurant.
Jeanne H — Google review
I was looking forward to this one as recommended by friends. The place is nice. The service was okay but felt rushed between courses. Both mains were prepared too early so most of the food was cold. It tasted lovely but not close to the price range.
Jernej S — Google review
Very nice and unique restaurant. The food looked amazing and was wel served with good sizes for the portions. The service was also very friendly and fast. There were just 2 small inconveniences, when i got my starter there was a small plastic layer still on the side of the dish. And the desert was hard to eat, there were to many different tastes all at once which made it hard to eat. But overall a good experience!
Tijmen B — Google review
This is a truly excellent restaurant. The menu was varied, interesting and well priced. Our waitress was good fun and quickly established a natural rapport. Highly recommend and we'll be visiting again when we're in the area.
Dave B — Google review
I was very disappointed with this Michelin-recommended restaurant. I ordered their set menu and chose the grilled octopus. When I got to the second half of the octopus, it was extremely bitter. I asked them to replace the dish, but the restaurant said it was not possible. Then I asked for a discount, but despite the poor quality of the dish, the restaurant offered no compensation at all. On top of that, the waiter was very disrespectful to me and even suggested I was trying to deceive the restaurant. However, as the pictures clearly show, the first half and the second half of the octopus were cooked very differently, with the latter part obviously burnt. They refused to acknowledge this, and they neither apologized nor offered any compensation. This restaurant forces customers to bear the full cost of their own mistakes in food quality. They refuse to take any responsibility or make any changes, no matter how unacceptable the dish is. Such behavior is completely unprofessional and shows a lack of respect for their guests.
Li Y — Google review
The setting is spectacular and unfortunately that is the only time I could use that adjective in relation to this restaurant. The service was so awful that our paired wine was only served a few minutes after our hot main course was on the table. With the cheese course as well, we had to wait 10 minutes for the wine to be served. The maitre d was totally uninterested in ensuring her staff were working and never once checked whether the mediocre food was any good. À very poor experience.

We stayed at the Mercure for a few days and had lunch at the restaurant once. Delicious food and wine, good service and a wonderful atmosphere.

Located in an architectural renovation work of art, the setting in this large eating room is casual, great service and good food at reasonable prices. I had the rouget fillet, which was lacquered or marinated before grilling. It was fine, but I had expected a simpler preparation to highlight the freshness of the fish. Highly recommended restaurant.

(Translated by Google) An exceptional monument for a journey through time of almost 1500 years. It is not often accessible, you must inquire at the Sainte-Croix museum to visit it. Heritage days and archeology days are good opportunities. The Sainte-Croix museum presents, in its archeology area, some interesting elements concerning the hypogeum. An exceptional monument dating from the 7th century, it is a Merovingian sanctuary built in the middle of an important necropolis. It was during the development of a military site that the first graves were uncovered, in 1878. The chapel was discovered in 1879 during archaeological excavations of the necropolis. The hypogeum was cleared, then reburied to preserve the ruins and decorations. Finally, it was cleared again and housed in 1908 in a Gallo-Roman style building, it is this construction that we see today when arriving in the small park. The hypogeum was classified by the M.H. in 1886 and the small park which surrounds it in 1952. Like many heritage monuments in the region, this hypogeum owes its discovery and its development to Father Camille de la Croix. The latter passed from historical knowledge to archeology with astonishing naturalness, he was the author of remarkable works throughout his life.

(Translated by Google) The church, classified in 2013 by the M.H., is to be discovered for its frescoes, created in the 20th century by Marie Baranger, (1902-2003), an internationally renowned fresco painter. This artist, born in Angoulême, created the frescoes which adorn the walls of this church. She practiced her art until the age of 84, on all continents; encouraging the creation of indigenous artists, she defended the value of local cultures and their artistic riches. She was charged, as an expert, with inculturation at the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) Locally, you can discover other works by this artist in the church of Migné-Auxances and in the waiting room of the “Toits du Monde” association premises. But also the church of Blaslay or that of Charrais, villages located a few kms away. A church, a history: this church, originally the chapel of the Grand Maison college run by the fathers of Picpus, disused in 1904 after the expulsion of the teaching congregations and destined to disappear, was rebuilt in this place, thanks to charity and to the dedication of the many friends of the work and especially of the former students who remained faithful guardians of the traditions of the vanished college. It was delivered to worship on May 21, 1934 and consecrated on October 2, 1935 by Monsignor Mesguen, Bishop of Poitiers. Father Bressollette, responsible for organizing this work, was the first priest of the new parish. Église Saint-Paul is a tranquil and holy place where one can find solace. It is unfortunate that on Sundays, there are no masses or priests available for confessions. Despite the inability to travel by foot to town, some people embark on a small pilgrimage to Saint Paul in honor of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. The church holds significance as a revered location for Catholics seeking spiritual blessings and divine connection.

(Translated by Google) I revisit the churches of Poitiers when the opportunity presents itself, the confinements of 2020 are an opportunity. The history of this Saint-Paul church is touching, its creation is the result of collective work by parishioners, led by an architect, Madeleine Ursault. Saint-Paul was chosen to compensate for the forgetting of this Saint at the cathedral of Poitiers: we speak of the cathedral of Saint-Pierre when it is the cathedral of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul. With the church of Saint-Cyprien listed as MH and Notre Dame Du Planty in Buxerolles, this Saint-Paul church represents the contemporary sacred built heritage of the agglomeration of Poitiers (formerly called the city of a hundred bell towers). This church was born from a project carried out by an architect, still a student. Its construction was the work of local residents, supported by a few companions and professionals for the construction of the frame and the roof. Its octagonal shape is original and its bell tower rings with three bells. During my first visit, in August 2018, it was open. I was able to appreciate the stained glass slab windows by Gabriel Loire de Chartres, the Virgin and the Stations of the Cross by Claude Gruer (1923-2013). I also discovered the tapestries made between 1995 and 1997 by a group of local women, under the direction of Monique Laurenceau, and a large Spanish Christ from the 15th century.

Nestled near Poitiers, the Église Sainte-Croix de Migné-Auxances may appear unassuming from the outside, but it is a treasure trove of artistic wonders within. The Sainte-Croix church in Migné-Auxances, behind a sober, even banal and bare architecture, houses magnificent works of art: paintings-frescoes by Marie Baranger, but also very beautiful stained glass windows, a monumental altarpiece and a path ceramic cross, made by Jean Gaudin. Since its reconstruction in the 19th century, this church has been disoriented in the literal sense of the term, its heart is to the west, its portal to the east; this to respect the meaning of the appearance on December 17, 1826 of a luminous cross lying in the sky, while a mission cross was being erected in the public square. I really liked this discovery far from the guides and tourist circuits. This monument has been protected by Historic Monuments since 2014 (inscription) like the Sainte-Thérèse des Rocs church in Poitiers, for the frescoes of Marie Baranger that they house. The Saint-Cyprien church was built in one year and opened to the public in 1964. The architects, Marcel Baudouin and Jacques Lafillée abandoned the traditional cross structure of churches. Nestled in the charming village of Saint-Sauvant, the Église Saint-Romain de Saint-Sauvant stands as a unique testament to the area's religious history. Established in a predominantly Protestant region since the 18th century, this Catholic church was inaugurated around 1836 and is prominently located on the village square. While its exterior boasts an appealing architecture, visitors often note that the interior can feel quite cold and unwelcoming due to security concerns that limit access to doors and windows.

(Translated by Google) Return to 2020, to a Catholic church installed in a Protestant stronghold. Since the 18th century, statistics indicate that 2/3 of the believers in Saint-Sauvant are Protestant. If the temple, built in the 19th century and inaugurated around 1836, is well displayed on the village square, the church seems to suffer from a lack of attention, even abandonment. The architectural richness of the building, classified in 1979 under the patronage of Saint-Romain (this is an error), is undeniable, but I find it poorly highlighted. The dome on squinches, under the bell tower-porch is a model of its kind, and the set of vaults is quite interesting, it covers the different architectural styles through the centuries. Artistic expression, beauty is an expression of faith in Catholic churches. Rarely built ex nihilo, they were often built on the site of places devoted to pagan cults. Romanesque architecture devotes learned calculations to capture or tame cosmic and telluric energies. 20,000 churches were built in 200 years during the first 3 centuries AD, a new sanctuary emerged from the ground every 3 to 4 days. The complexity of the techniques used to create these monuments and their beauty impress and fascinate. I wrote in 2018: An interesting history and a great need for restoration. Built in place of a very ancient sanctuary, as shown by the presence of numerous stone sarcophagi found all around the church, this Romanesque building was built in the 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th centuries. Numerous gothic covers have greatly modified the whole. An error made it classified in the M.H. in 1979 under the patronage of Saint-Romain while all the archives stipulate that this church was under the patronage of Saint-Sylvain. Romanesque sculptures and beautiful stained glass windows are among the things to discover in this church whose general condition seems to indicate the urgent need for restoration.

Eglise Sainte Bernadette - Paroisse Bienheureuse-Marie-Louise de Poitiers may seem austere from the outside, but its interior is surprisingly welcoming and spacious. The vast nave allows for large gatherings, making it suitable for current health restrictions. As a property of the Diocese, visitors can benefit from accompanied visits by parishioners.
(Translated by Google) The exterior is austere to say the least, the interior is welcoming and surprises with its dimensions. The vast nave of the Sainte Bernadette church allows large gatherings in these times of health confinement. Property of the Diocese, I benefited from a visit, accompanied by a parishioner. The exterior is austere to say the least, the interior is welcoming and surprises with its dimensions. It is a place that lends itself very well to contemplation, meditation, prayer and religious ceremonies. A 20th century church, consecrated in 1959 in a modest and working-class neighborhood, the communist presence there was very significant. The members of the first left-wing party (French Communist Party), powerful and representative, were strongly represented at that time, the citizens of this parish were not inclined to attend church. The first parish priest, “Father Marcel Caille”, was a hands-on man, active and keen to have this presence accepted. To seal the first stone of the altar, He brought in a mason, who was a communist, “Father Foy”. A symbolic fact that made sense in this neighborhood. “Father Marcel Caille” will also focus heavily on young people, launching the construction of the first basketball court and a sports hall. Cultural development and the organization of trips will also be part of its activity. The construction of the church met criteria of budgetary restrictions; all made of concrete, it still received stained glass windows, which light it up in pretty colors. Well maintained, it seems to have aged well (better than the Notre-Dame de Royan church built with salt sand from the Gironde).

(Translated by Google) Visited on the occasion of heritage days and a conference on Protestant scouting. It was also an opportunity to discover the history of this temple, those who preceded it and the architectural concept. The signage is informative. Lighting comes from above through openings placed above neighboring buildings. The acoustics are special, the reverberation is important. This last point made the speaker's words not very comfortable to follow, it was preferable that he spoke from the pulpit. If art and beauty are expressions of faith in Catholic churches, the austerity of Protestant temples always leaves me doubtful. Chagall and other painters, stained glass artists and sculptors inspired me and allowed me to have a spiritual life, not necessarily religious, but rich and essential. For me, images are not idols but sources of joy and love. In such a place, I miss them.

(Translated by Google) A 12th century church, an apse protected by the M.H. since 1931. This well-maintained church is open and welcoming, it has the charm of village churches. Of the original building, only the apse remains, which is partly hidden to the north, by the sacristy. Listed since 1931, it is today the extension of a front choir and a nave from the 19th and 20th centuries. According to testimonies, around 1847, the church resembled a "barn" and it was urgent to plan a partial reconstruction. The nave was partially rebuilt, and it collapsed. It was then rebuilt in stages, adding three chapels. The construction site lasted several decades, the neo-Roman style used made it possible to maintain harmony and coherence in the building. The will of the parishioners and the community made it possible to preserve this charming little church.

(Translated by Google) Building in good condition, the restorations have preserved the spirit of the primitive church. Chapel of a priory dependent on the Abbey of the Trinity of Poitiers, then church, one can receive all the sacraments there. The facade topped by a small bell tower with a single bay and bell is of immense simplicity. You have to enter the church to discover its charm. The nave has a single nave, which could be said to have three bays if we rely on the framework, open with two bays to the south. A semi-circular arcade, flanked by two altars, provides access to the choir bay, extended by a semi-circle apse. The whole is framed like an inverted boat hull, a magnificent building which also concerns the apse. A wooden statue of the Virgin from the 17th century, a reliquary bust, a tabernacle, two altars, a painting from the 17th century, stained glass windows from the 20th century will interest visitors.

Eglise Saint-Agapit d'Andillé is a charming church that reflects the local community's deep connection to its heritage. Similar to the Saint-Nicolas church in Roches-Premarie, visitors need to collect the keys from the town hall in Roches-Premarie-Andille. The church boasts Romanesque roots, a Gothic choir, and a facade and nave dating back to the 19th century.
(Translated by Google) It is a warm church, witness to the communities’ attachment to their heritage. A church with Romanesque origins, a Gothic choir, and whose facade and nave date from the 19th century. The Romanesque portal, protected by the M.H., has been preserved. It is complicated or even impossible to go around it, private properties surround it to the North and South. The pointed barrel vaults, the pointed triumphal arch, the Gothic bay of the sanctuary, give this church a warm harmony.
