Nojimazaki tōdai Lighthouse, situated at the southernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, is a 19th-century beacon offering stunning views and unique experiences. Visitors can climb its spiral stairs to reach an observation deck with a large lens providing a humorous atmosphere up close. The cape where the lighthouse stands is renowned for stargazing and sunset views, with a popular sunrise and sunset viewing bench on higher ground.
Worth the time and effort to visit it. Open skies, beautiful waves and rocks. And if you did manage to take the 88 steps to reach the top of the light house, you will be awarded with a breath taking view. Worth every calorie you burn.

The second-oldest lighthouse but rebuilt after the war is on the tip of southernmost Chiba and pretty before the wild look ocean rocks.

Picturesque and breathtaking sceneries! You'll enjoy taking photos as mementos of this exquisite park. Though quite remote, it's worth a visit.

Beautiful park and location. Several rustic places to enjoy delicious seafood. A small café and art gallery. Gorgeous views at sunset

As far as lighthouses go this one was ok, nothing special, it was the shrine at the foot of the lighthouse that was more interesting to me, especially when you find the secret they keep hidden in the small wooden enclosure at the head of the sando (a giant phallus🤣)

Aloha Garden Tateyama is a delightful Hawaiian-themed park and zoo that transports visitors to a tropical paradise. Nestled among palm trees, this expansive venue features lush botanical gardens, vibrant greenhouses, and an engaging zoo where you can interact with various animals. The atmosphere is enhanced by captivating Hawaiian shows showcasing traditional Hula and Tahitian dances, along with unique culinary offerings that can't be found elsewhere.
Awesome place! Very large area to walk around. You can walk goats and hold geniepigs. Moderate cost and very kid friendly. Free parking. Lots of animals.
Paul A — Google review
Feels a bit under the weather. Maybe needs to find a new vocation rather than ‘ Hawaii’. How about conservation of rare plants etc?
Jim B — Google review
I really enjoyed this botanical garden. There are several large atria housing numerous tropical plant species. The musa paradiaca are absolutely huge. There are some interesting birds in the facilities, too. I went during a weekday and there was almost no one around. If you love plants, it's well worth a visit. Though it's a bit difficult to get to if you're not driving. I took the JR highway bus from Tateyama Stn. and walked a bit. I would definitely return.
M. D — Google review
Quiet place to view tropical plants. The place also offers good backgrounds for photo ops!
Sarah B — Google review
I loved the tropical rainforest garden and for family with kids, the animals feeding experience is good too. Some of the animals were not looking well and the space assigned to each species was too small for some. The entrance fee is reasonable and the parking is free so it's not bad. The Hawaiian dance show was nice. However it only has a little cafe that serves junk food. There are limited options and the taste was bad so I recommend you eat somewhere else after your visit to the park.
M M — Google review
Very chill place, you can stroll at your own pace and the place is not overwhelming. Takes two hours to slowly do the whole park. You can buy snacks for the animals and for 500 yen you get a big bucket of vegetables to feed almost all the animals. It was a lot of fun. The loco moco at the cafe, however, was microwaved and not worth 1,050 yen. Big free parking lot, though. All in all, I'm satisfied.

Shrine
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled in Japan, Takabe Shrine stands as a unique tribute to Iwakamutsukari-no-Mikoto, the deity of cuisine. This sacred site has been celebrating culinary traditions since the Heian period with its renowned Shijo knife ceremony held three times a year. Visitors can witness chefs skillfully preparing fish in this ritual that honors Japan's rich food culture.
A place you should visit if you are wanting to get better with food related Activities, mostly pertaining to cooking. This shrine is dedicated to the god of cuisine/cooking. There is a place you can lay to rest your used up knives, and have omamori for getting better at cooking(料理上達) and for those who wish to dedicate to cooking(料理心)
Kevin B — Google review
I think it's the only shrine dedicated to the god of cooking in Japan. Not crowded at all and a bit hard to access. A tour is recommended. People in the food business come here to pray for good luck. In May, October, and November, the Hochoshiki, knife ceremony) takes place.

(Translated by Google) Takaie Shrine ⛩️ in Chikura, Minamiboso City, is the only shrine dedicated to the god of cooking in Japan. Its main deity is Iwakamutsukari-no-Mikoto (respectfully titled Takabe-no-Kami). The shrine is visited by many miso and soy sauce brewers and chefs, and the Knife Ceremony (a ritual in which chefs, wearing eboshi and hitatare, use knives and chopsticks to prepare seafood such as carp and sea bream without touching the food with their hands) is held three times a year within the shrine grounds. There were several scratches on the stone steps of the Knife Offering Hall, likely caused by knives. The amulets available here are also unique, including "Cooking Improvement Amulets," "Cooking Wishes Amulets," and "Cooking Prayer Amulets," as well as a limited-edition soy sauce called Takabe.

(Translated by Google) As the shrine enshrines the god of cooking, I went up to pray for improvement as my cooking skills aren't that great. I went to pray with a rather casual attitude, but I was surprised to find it was even more impressive than I had imagined! The path from the torii gate to the main hall is straight, with beautifully maintained plants on both sides, making it look like a painting! The only drawback is that it's located in a mountain village near the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, with narrow roads. There is a parking lot, so it's probably best to come by car. Even so, it's a shrine I'd like to visit again. (Unfortunately, it rained on the day. Apologies for the dark photos.)

The staff were very kind and made it easy to hand over my goshuincho. I received a pamphlet and paid my respects. Japan's only god of cooking resides here. I went on a weekend, but there were not many people and the goshuin and shrine were beautiful, so I recommend stopping by. (Translated by Google) The shrine's main deity is Iwakarokugan no Mikoto (Takabae no Mikoto), with Amaterasu Omikami and Inari no Okami as secondary deities. While the exact date of its founding is unclear, it is believed to have originated when several members of the ancient Kashiwade clan (also known as the Takahashi clan), whose ancestor was Iwakarokugan no Mikoto, moved to Awa Province and founded the shrine to worship the deity as their clan deity. The Engishiki Shinmeicho, published in 927 during the Heian period, lists the shrine as "Takaya Shrine, Asai County, Awa Province." However, due to its subsequent decline and closure, its location became unknown for a long time. The current Takaya Shrine is said to have originated in 1620 during the early Edo period, when Takagi Kichiemon, an ancestor of the current chief priest, discovered a wooden statue and a two-sided mirror under a cherry tree and built a Shinmei Shrine with them as the sacred object. About 200 years later, an inscription of "Mikototsu-no-kami, Iwakarokugan-no-mikoto" was found on the two-sided mirror, and it was determined that this was the sacred object of Takaie Shrine, whose location was unknown, and in 1819 (Bunsei 2) during the late Edo period, the shrine's name was changed from "Shinmei-sha" to "Takaie Shrine." There is a well-maintained parking lot.

Wadaura Beach, nestled in the picturesque Minamiboso City of Chiba Prefecture, is a true gem among Japan's coastal treasures. Renowned for its stunning white sandy shores interspersed with seashells and gentle waves, this beach has earned its place as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan. One unique experience you can indulge in here is a sand bath—a soothing ritual where you relax under warm sand poured over your body while dressed in a yukata.

If you want to experience the beautiful, crystal clear ocean, you should go at high tide, everyone. It's totally different from low tide.
Google review
(Translated by Google) It has been selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan. If you get off at Wadaura Station, make a slight detour to the left and cross the railroad crossing to reach the sea side. It's a few minutes' walk, not more than 10 minutes. There is a Lawson store near the way, which is very convenient. There is also a roadside station nearby. There are toilets, changing rooms, and showers, and I think it is relatively well-maintained. Sandals are necessary as the sand gets quite hot. The pond-like area on the right side facing the sea seems to be suitable for children to play in the sea, but the other large areas are the open sea and are easily affected by swells and waves. Be careful as some areas become deep and rocky quickly. It may be better to swim at low tide. The lifeguards are always there to check on people and to call out to them, which shows their commitment to preventing accidents and troubles, but users should also follow the instructions and precautions to avoid any unforeseen circumstances and use the beach safely. The Roadside Station Hota Elementary School is a unique and charming rest stop that offers overnight accommodations, dining options, and gardens to explore. The former elementary school has been transformed into a quaint lodging with rooms named after different classes and equipped with student chairs, boards, and even lunch serving items. The concept of staying in a school provides guests with an unforgettable experience. Additionally, there are restaurants and grocery stores available on the premises that abound with flowers and plants.
This location has been transformed from an old elementary school into a community complex. It is a great place to socialize, with various shops and restaurants nearby. Additionally, they offer accommodations in a classroom style, although they do not have en suite bathrooms.

One of the most beautiful Roadside Station ( michi no eki) I've stopped at. Lots of well lit parking spaces for even our motorhome. Clean and well maintained toilet facilities and a large open garden space for kids to run around and play at. The building compound is lined with a nice mix of gachapon stations, vending machines souvenir shops and cafes so theres something for everyone in the day. One of the best things for kids is a Free to Play area thats fully covered with padded mats so your children can run and slide around in a safe environment. We were the only foreigners there and the nice locals showed us the space when they notice we had a toddler with us! Definitely recommend a stopover if you are in the Chiba area.

Nice concept. All the rooms have a name of an elementary school. Ex Year 1 class A, music room etc. Student chairs, board, even the lunch serving items are all around. It gives the impression of staying at a school. I really like the concept. There are rooms on the second floor where you can stay with your family or friends. There are restaurants and grocery store with lots of flowers and plants. The parking area was very well designed and flowered beautifully. Recommend to this place for everyone.

Nestled in the picturesque Kamogawa City, Oyama Senmaida is a stunning terraced rice field that boasts 375 meticulously arranged paddies cascading down a steep slope. Spanning approximately 3.2 hectares at the base of Mt. Daisen, this unique landscape is not only visually captivating but also ecologically significant as it relies solely on rainwater for cultivation—making it Japan's only rainfed rice paddy system.
This is quite a nice view for a rice field. You need to be there in the right season and weather to get good pictures else it may just look like a green slope of overgrown grasses. When we were there, it is fairly ok as the weather was fantastic.

There were many interesting aspects. Historical ancient remains from over 2000 years ago were found in the cave, there is a holy spring (you need to be cleansed before gathering water from it), the buildings are beautiful and well-kept, there are places to hike and see Fuji, and nature is respected and seems treasured (as can be seen in the bird sign). The fortune sheets are uncannily accurate. There was a singing Hototogisu.

One of the most historical shrine in Tateyama city. Also, This area is famous for the ex-military facilities in world war II. Please check out war marks and beautiful nature.

The shrine was fine... pretty setting and easy to walk around, but the forest walk behind it was really nice. A couple of the high points had fantastic views. It was quiet too, so I got the place to myself. A full circuit of the forest path took about 1 hour.

Cape Taibusa Nature Park is a renowned national park with magnificent views of the sea, set on a rocky peninsula. The park boasts an observation tower that provides panoramic vistas and is popular for camping and kayaking activities. The area's natural beauty draws visitors from all around to explore its stunning landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and enjoy outdoor adventures like kayaking in the sea.
Wonderful place. Lots of parks, play areas and camping sites available, so enjoyable for both kids and adults. It is prohibited to bath in the sea but can relax. Superb place for a picnic. Wheelchair access available for most of the places but bit hilly road. Car parking is free of charge. Since ample space much safe place to visit during the pandemic

Came here to camp and fish for 2 nights. Fishing was just ok, maybe because we do not know the correct fishing spots or the correct rig to use. Beware of crows and hawks (Tobi) stealing your food though. Check out the last video where the hawk tried to catch the puffer fishes in a small crater. It tried several times unsuccessfully.

(Translated by Google) It's about a 50-minute ride by rental bicycle from Tateyama Station on the JR Uchibo Line. You can also come from Nagofunagata Station or Tomiura Station, but there are no rental bicycles in front of the station, so be prepared to walk for an hour. It's a "natural park." Rather than describing it as a place of untouched nature, it's better to describe it as a pseudo-wasteland neglected by the local government. First of all, infrastructure such as the asphalt, handrails, and stairs are completely destroyed. There are no staff on site, and grass and trees are allowed to grow freely. Going down to the beach is dangerous. If you fall off the cliff, it will be difficult to get back to land on your own. It's best not to travel alone. However, this place is also known for its many unique experiences. Remains from the end of the war have been preserved in their original form and are in extremely good condition. It would be good to imagine what those who survived the extreme conditions of war were thinking and what kind of lives they lived in this place.

I thought it would be nice to take my dog for a walk As I continued on, I was standing under the towering trees when suddenly I heard the sound of a helicopter or an airplane and thought, "Is it an air raid?" It's not a simulated experience, but it's scary when something you can't see flies by making a loud noise, isn't it? I went up the stairs and, out of breath, I could see the campsite and the management building. Then I found a pillar that said [Ka 36] and finally reached the entrance to the fortress. I'm afraid of dark places, so I was very scared to go forward/ I went through a tunnel-like passage and found an interesting-shaped hole? You can see it in the photo. My partner has been here a few times, but said it was the first time he'd seen a hole with no water in it. I tried to cross to the other side, but it felt kind of scary! I don't like it because it's dark. Now I know that places like that exist! It's a place I would never go to on my own. But I'm glad I got to experience it. Visitors can reach the temple after a short bus ride from Tateyama Station and a brief walk uphill from the parking area.

Museum
Tateyama Castle, located in Tateyama City, offers a unique experience with its hilltop location providing panoramic views of Tokyo Bay and the southern Boso Peninsula. While it's more of a museum than a traditional castle, it features an interesting exhibit about local legends. The short hike to the castle through Shiroyama Park is rewarded with stunning vistas and the chance to see Mt. Fuji on clear days. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings, especially during cherry blossom season in April.
the view from the castle is beautiful .in the clear view mt.fuji also seen.
Samjhana S — Google review
Entering the castle grounds is free. Even the parking is free. You can enjoy walking up the mountain and enjoying the spreading Sakura trees. Your kids can enjoy the Sakura in the playground area. Entering the castle itself, which is now a museum, costs around 300¥ but this fee and the ticket purchased at the castle museum will also serve as your ticket to the Hakkenden Museum. The castle museum's highlights are the woodblock prints and comics from the early 1900s, and the view from the castle's lookout point. At the other museum, the highlights are the hut or a replica of a hut from the 1800s before electricity and before the use of concrete and timber. It is made from bamboo and thatch roofing. It is an ordinary house from a village around Tateyama. They have beautiful brass and clay cooking implements, bamboo baskets and a loom. There is also an array of pictures from around the area before, immediately after, and 100 years after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.

You'll hardly miss this beautiful castle when you visit Tateyama City. It's a rather short hike but you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the city and the view of the sea. On a clear day you'll be able to see Mt. Fuji from its observation deck. I'd recommend going here to watch the stunning sunset

Nice park and the castle is well-maintained. There's no fee to enter the park (but you have to pay if you want to enter the castle itself). There are nice views from the summit and flora are abundant. If you're in Tateyama, it's worth a visit.

Sacred place representing ever changing beauty of Japan - historical castle, fresh air, paramount views, well organised plantation, Horyuji-style great architecture + graceful local people. I wish Greta Thunberg would visit here.

A spot you should definitely visit if you're in Tateyama. The castle itself is a little dissapointing - it's more of a museum than a proper castle, but it has an interesting exhibit about a local legend inside (all in Japanese). The view from the top is the best part. You can see 360° of Tateyama with an amazing view of Tokyo Bay. The surrounding park is also a wonderful place to hang out or explore.

Heisaura Beach, located on the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, is a stunning 5-kilometer stretch of sandy shoreline that faces the Pacific Ocean. This beach is perfect for everyone—from families enjoying a day out to thrill-seekers like surfers and kite-surfers who flock here for its renowned waves. The backdrop features lush botanical gardens and a hotel with a pool, making it an ideal spot for relaxation after some fun in the sun.
(Translated by Google) Both the seawater and the waves were very beautiful. I usually go to Kita Chiba so I'm glad I came here. Even in mid-October, it was perfectly warm and the waves were in the 50s. The weather was nice and I was able to surf while looking at Mt. Fuji. Is that a flounder or something that feels slimy when I step on it? 🐟There were also people fishing. I want to come again. (Translated by Google) This is one of the closest surfing spots to my house in Minamiboso. The coastline stretches quite a distance from east to west, and the topography and direction are slightly different, so if you choose the right spot, I think you'll find waves that are good for surfing somewhere. Depending on the direction of the swell and the topography, the waves can be damped, but the scenery and the sea are beautiful and it's often empty, and on sunny days, it feels good just to be in the sea. By the way, this is not a swimming beach, and there is no supervision by lifeguards, so I think it's best to avoid swimming here.

(Translated by Google) Heisaura Beach is a long beach south of Tateyama, boasting a magnificent 5km stretch of sand. It's not overly crowded, and the laid-back atmosphere makes it pleasant to stroll while listening to the sound of the waves. Facing the Pacific Ocean, the waves are relatively high, and you can see people surfing and fishing. At dusk, the sun sinks beautifully into the horizon, bathing the sky and sea in a romantic orange hue. This is an especially recommended time for couples and photography enthusiasts. Unlike more touristy beaches, there are fewer shops and facilities, but the appeal lies in the pristine, powerful natural beauty. It's the perfect spot for those looking to enjoy the ocean in peace or for a quick stop on a drive. (Translated by Google) What struck me most about visiting Heisaura Beach was the extraordinary scenery created by its majestic sandy beach. Stretching roughly 5km, the long beach, with its vast expanse of sand and sand-prevention forest, creates a stunning landscape, allowing me to fully enjoy the natural beauty that can only be found here in Minami Boso. The beach here wasn't overly crowded, creating a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Especially on weekdays, it felt like a private beach all to yourself. Walking around listening to the sound of the waves was incredibly relaxing. This beach is a renowned surfing spot, and I came here to enjoy some surfing. I'd heard good waves come in winter, but even in mid-October, the weather was warm and the waves were good. The water was clear, and the luxurious location—surfing while enjoying views of Izu Oshima, Toshima, and Mount Fuji—was exceptional. Because the terrain and direction vary slightly, choosing the right spot means you can be sure to find waves somewhere, a bonus for surfers. However, there are reefs below and rip currents, so I felt it was important to watch where I stepped before entering. It also seems like a fascinating spot for anglers, with a thriving fish population. As there is no parking lot directly connected to the beach, it's best to use a roadside station (near Aloha Garden or Minamiboso Paradise) or a paid parking lot popular with surfers (around 1,000 yen per day). The lady at the parking lot was very kind and I had a pleasant time. I've heard stories of people struggling to reach the shore due to poor footing, so you'll likely need to find a gap along the Flower Line or a small path through the sandbar. I learned that swimming is prohibited for safety reasons due to the high waves and complex currents, so it's best to enjoy it as a mecca for scenery, surfing, and fishing. I've also occasionally seen horses strolling along the beach, and I've heard that it can become a reflection beach if you're lucky. I feel like this is a wonderful beach where you can discover something new no matter how many times you visit.
