The German Football Museum, also known as DFB-Museum, is a national museum located in Dortmund that offers a comprehensive exploration of the history and cultural significance of soccer in Germany. The museum features multimedia installations, interactive displays, and memorabilia that trace the origins of the sport to its modern-day achievements. It showcases famous players, historic matches, and the evolution of football tactics and technology.
Such an amazing place with so much history to take in. Personally I think they should have done a bigger section on the WW1 ceasefire when both sides played football on Christmas day but that's just my opinion. Least they had one photo for it.
Andy C — Google review
This was one of the best museums I have ever visited. I loved every part of it. It was infomative and interactive. I would love to return in the future. I spent 1.5 hour just on the first floor. I could have spent 5 hours here, super interesting for someone who loves football. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in a more deepht history of the german football and in the football history in general.
Kata K — Google review
We had an amazing guide!! He was very knowledgeable and really made the tour super fun!!
Ayesha W — Google review
As someone who doesn’t really follow football, I enjoy the history of the game and the passion of the supporters. This museum is really well done. The items on display are interesting and the accompanying descriptions are detailed slough to tell the story, but not so long that you get tired of reading them. While I didn’t understand the significance of the whole “1954 Miracle of Bern” that greets you at the start, as my visit progressed it made more sense, and upon completing my visit I think it was a great way to open. I’m thinking there may have been more excitement in the air had the German National Team made the Euro Cup final being played the next day (England v Spain). I’m sure I’d have loved it even more if I knew the names and the stories.

The German Football Museum in Dortmund is a must-visit for any football fan. It offers fascinating exhibits, interactive displays, and a deep dive into Germany’s rich football history. Modern, engaging, and full of emotion, a great experience for all ages
Stella K — Google review
I have heard all about this place in Dortmund and wanted to see what all the hype was about. Having seen it, I was impressed and would recommend it even if you are not much of a soccer (or football in Europe) fan. I like soccer a bit, and coming from Australia to see museums like this one was refreshing and interesting how rich pieces of soccer history relating to the Germany national soccer team have been preserved and put into a museum. There is a section relating to FIFA World Cup history, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Bundesliga etc so there is no shortage of things for you to see. You can do a self-tour for a reasonable price which is quite good, and again I would recommend it even if you are not much of a fan of European soccer. For those who are fanatics, this is a must see place if you are in or near Dortmund. You really cannot miss this place, once you get out of the Hbf (central train station) you just cross the road and the museum is to your right. There is no need to purchase tickets in advance.
Phil T — Google review
A very cool experience, which takes you through the history of German football with original exhibits from all times, but especially with the trophies from the World Cups won. A very interesting 3D cinema. and even a useful bistro on the way out :)
Pantel D — Google review
Great experience and stunning stuff to see. Fantastic animations and a pretty cool 3D movie to watch. Staffing was very friendly and supportive. There was no wait at all during the week in December. Would highly recommend for true soccer fans especially 2014 mold cup is a big theme for this museum. Ticket prices are ok.

Park
Nature & Parks
Westfalenpark, situated in the heart of Dortmund, is a sprawling 70-hectare green space offering a variety of attractions. The park boasts the iconic Florianturm, which provides panoramic views of the city's skyline from its observation deck and cafe. Visitors can explore the Deutsches Rosarium with its impressive collection of 3,000 rose varieties and enjoy events like the Juicy Beats festival in summer and the Festival of Lights in winter.
Wonderful park! Lots of interesting locations! There are playgrounds where you can walk with small children! There are many cozy places in the park where you can sit in silence, take interesting photos! The tower is very cool - the whole city is in the palm of your hand! I recommend visiting this wonderful place!
Оксана В — Google review
The park is very big and it has various areas depending on what you're interested in. A must see is the Florian Tower which offers a nice panorama of Dortmund and its surroundings. Another fun thing to do is take the train that goes around the park to quickly see what the park has to offer. Or the cable car, which goes from one side of the park to the other. For people with kids, there is a Nostalgia Puppet Theater, 2 playgrounds for smaller kids and a higher climbing playground for older kids. There's a Japanese garden, a rose garden, an art gallery, a culture center and a few cafes and bistros. The sad part is that some areas of the park seem to be under renovation (or they seem a bit in disrepair). I hope they will be renovated soon, because the park is very charming and beautiful.
Julia M — Google review
A big park, with paid entry. If you want to visit the Florianturm, you have no other option, since the tower is located on its premises. When we were there also a flea market took place, interesting use of the space with all kinds of things to buy. Apparently it's also famous for its rose gardens, that as you can see on the map, take a big chunk of the park. However they were disappointing, maybe they span throughout the park, maybe it wasn't the best time, but I hoped to see more colors and variations.
Maciej P — Google review
What a great park for families with kids! Start with the Spielbogen. It's just playground upon playground, lots of fun things to do. Avoid the Kindermuseum (we happened upon an exhibit about bacteria 🤷🏻‍♀️). Be ready to pay a small fee for the train, visiting the tower and the cableroad. The only confusing thing to me was WHY I HAD TO QUEUE WITH EVERYONE WHEN I HAD PURCHASED THE TICKETS ONLINE. This was ridiculous!
Anna I — Google review
A beautiful wide park with lots to do. Very relaxing and the landscaping is beautiful to look at and to photograph. I especially loved the flowers.
Zee J — Google review
Very pretty flowers and not to expensive with the rides etc. If it's good weather you can make a wonderful day out with plenty of things to keep the kids busy.

Westfalenpark - Place for family day, train drive through the park, cable cars, sightseeing from the top of the "Floriantrum". From there you can also see Signal Iduna Park, stadium of the Borussia Dortmund.

On a hot, humid day it was lovely to escape to the Westfalen Park and enjoy the shade and the scent of the roses wafting on a gentle breeze.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Dortmund Zoo is a leafy and diverse zoo that houses around 2,000 animals from approximately 250 species on a 28-hectare property. The zoo focuses on South American wildlife and features large naturalistic habitats such as the Amazon House and the South America Meadow. Visitors can observe a wide range of animals in these settings, including the iconic Giant Anteaters, Sloths, and Armadillos.
The zoo is huge. It is situated in a forest ( or that's what it seems like 🤭), full of greenery and a beautiful walkway. You need to follow the map if you want to checkout and not miss on any animal/ bird. You can also just follow your heart and enjoy, just make sure you find the exit. As of my experience, I got to see a lot of animals that I had never seen in my life before. For being extra friendly and sweet - my best friends at zoo were a Giraffe 🦒 and a Donkey 🫏 ( Donkey simply because it's my favourite in general 🤭) Other animals that I never saw before, but did here are : Otters 🦦 , Seals 🦭, capybaras, red pandas, white owl 🦉, Alpacas, and red flamingos! Thankfully the day I visited here was pleasant and warm, which is most suitable and recommend if you are planning to visit this place. I had a great time here :) Also I got a student discount on the entry ticket, but you need to show them a valid Id proof for that.
Emerald S — Google review
I visited Dortmund Zoo on June 20, 2025, during the summer season, and it was a great experience overall. The zoo is conveniently located a short subway ride away from Dortmund’s main railway station, making it easy to reach. The entrance ticket cost €11, which I found quite reasonable for the size of the zoo and the variety it offers. The zoo is spread across a large area and features a wide range of animals from different regions around the world. It was fascinating to see so many species in well-maintained enclosures that reflect their natural habitats. There are several restaurants inside the zoo, offering a variety of food and drinks, so you won’t go hungry during your visit. I also noticed dedicated children’s play areas, which make it a great spot for families with kids. Overall, Dortmund Zoo is a relaxing and educational place to spend a few hours, especially if you enjoy being close to nature and wildlife. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the city.
Sujeewa J — Google review
This zoo is very nice! For €7,50 per adult and free parking in October the price is really low. The majority of people says this zoo is small but I disagree and think this zoo is actually pretty large. A lot of well made habitats, however I do have to agree that some look like they could use a little attention. But this zoo is based on naturalism, so I think it’s fine. A lot of opportunities to see animals from up close and take good photos. Also some (very )special species, like the black jaguar, clouded leopard and red panda. If you want to you can spend the whole day here, there’s enough to watch. Most of the animals are very active, unlike in many other zoo’s where the majority of the animals are sleeping. The only negatives were the constructions, which made it impossible to see some animals. Also, the animal information in mainly only German and mostly cash only payments at food stands. But overall, especially for the price this park is very good! There were also very little people, al though we did visit on a Monday.
Yurivdb — Google review
It was nice, there was lots of animal. More of birds, different types. It nice to go early if you want enough time.
Chisom U — Google review
Absolutely wonderful day out, well worth a visit. Enjoyed the relaxing surroundings and plenty of animals to see in well maintained enclosures. I am so glad that I made the journey as I almost did not go due to some negative reviews about construction works at the zoo. This zoo is exceptional, and one of the best that I have had the pleasure to visit. Highly recommend.
S L — Google review
Nice place for Sunday afternoon. Few spots were under construction. It was a nice experience 😊
Barbor — Google review
Large space. Wide variety of animals. It's not in optimal conditions for them, but it does the job.
Gastón N — Google review
I loved this zoo, not too big, but very nice, in the middle of a beautiful park. There are some very interesting animals like tapir, ant-eater and rhinos. All of these just at arm's length. Outside of the zoo there is a n astonishing beautiful botanical garden. Really enjoyed it and recommend

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Florianturm, a prominent landmark in Dortmund, Germany, is a 720-ft. telecommunications tower that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings from two viewing decks. Visitors can admire Dortmund's urban landscape and explore the tower's architectural and historical significance through exhibits. Additionally, the tower features a rotating restaurant where guests can dine while enjoying the stunning vistas.
Definitely a place to visit. ✅Magnificent view from the tower. ✅You can go up quickly with the elevator. ✅The park is also worth seeing. ✅You can enter with a family (2 adults, max 4 children) by buying a combi ticket, only 13.50 ⚠️ It is not a big problem that the staff does not know/speak English. ✅If you are lucky, you can find free parking for your car at the entrance.
Serkan K — Google review
Where I usually refrain from visiting such places, since usually the view is so so mostly on some rooftops, because of the lack of better attractions in Dortmund and because it's an integral part of a park for which you have to pay. It turned out to be one of the highlight points. Because it's not in the city center not only you can see Dortmund, but all of the industrial parks around it and the whole area.
Maciej P — Google review
Really amazing place with great surrounding park area for enjoying a nice stroll. The entry price is about 3 to 5 euros, so not much at all to enjoy spectacular aerial views of the city of Dortmund. You can also see the BVB stadium from this place, so feel free to venture at any time of the day and take as many pics, vids, panoramas, instagrams and showcase your work to your mates or to the public. The place is simple to reach via U-Bahn (subway or underground) metro and the station has signs to direct you to the Florianturm. I would highly recommend this place if you want to see aerial views of Dortmund. There are other rooftop bars and restaurants available but this one is spectacular.
Phil T — Google review
Super place! It worth visiting. The bird's eye view of Dortmund .
Olha R — Google review
Florianturm was great. 4 euro may seem steep for some people but you can see every highlight in Dortmund.

Incredible view, 3€ entry for person. We went on Friday afternoon and there were only 2 other people on top with us. Can't miss this if you are exploring dortmund, combination with park is worth it.

Nice park. U need to visit for once for sure . If u would like come here often it’s your choice. Actually it’s a good park. Go to on tower.
Nazarii P — Google review
This was really a 'highlight' of my trip to Düsseldorf. This is the highest point in Dortmund, but also the view on the city is exceptional and sensational. This tower is located in a very clean park and gives you the opportunity to see the city from the sky. That for only 4 euros. I would recommend this to everybody!

Church
St. Reinold's Church, also known as Reinoldikirche, is a Romanesque Lutheran church located in Dortmund, Germany. Its construction began in the 13th century and was completed in 1454. The church features a Gothic choir and a Baroque-style tower that rises over Willy-Brandt-Platz at the city's geographical center.
Worthwhile place to visit, especially if you are in any town in Germany, they have lots of old churches and buildings that are well preserved. The architecture from outside and inside are just as impressive, so if you have the time, why not go inside and take pics, vids, panoramas, etc. unfortunately, I did not have the time to go inside to take pics.
Phil T — Google review
Pretty nice but overrated church in Dortmund's center. It isn't that huge or well ornamented but it is still a sight you must see in the city. There are pretty cool shops and restaurants around it. You can enter for free but inside St. Reinhold's Church it is even less impressive.
Martin Z — Google review
The concert here was quite good, however apart from that, nothing interesting.
Gini S — Google review
Not as special as other churches in Germany. But Dortmund was just so boring that this became an attraction
Nguyen K — Google review
Beautiful church located in the city centre of Dortmund. A must visit if you want to escape the city hustle.

A quiet place in the busy city center.

Cultural center
The cultural center, located in a former brewery in Dortmund, is crowned with a massive U-shaped structure that offers creative exhibits and events. The building features impressive 3D projections, including one on the U logo that showcases flowing water and fish. The open outdoor space attracts many visitors seeking fresh air after quarantine. Inside, there are plenty of activities to explore and stay updated on the latest trends in the 3D realm.
I got to attend an outdoor concert on a Sunday evening: I was pleasantly surprised at how good the bands were! The observation tower was open and free! Took the lift and it was not crowded and had great views right under the U.
B C — Google review
The entrance was free. There were closets to store backpacks and jackets without any cost. There were exhibition and museum for visiting. Also there is a rooftop to access a nice view of the city. The staff were nice. There was also a cinema on the ground floor which I didn't visit but I think only for that you need a ticket.
Saeed K — Google review
A unique cultural landmark in Dortmund. The architecture is striking, and the exhibitions are often interesting. Worth a short visit if you’re in the area.
Mousa M — Google review
It hosts more expositions and it is free entrance. Depending on when you arrive there will be different things, but the building is amazingly created and it hosts these expositions very well. You also have access to the roof and can see the whole city. Definetly worths the time! I've spend 2h inside.
Rasvan M — Google review
Brilliant building that has so many floors. The time we visited it was too late to visit all the floors so we went to the rooftop which was breathtaking during sunset. Look at the photos attached! Highly recommended to visit for leisure or to learn about industrial and urban planning stuff.
Harry R — Google review
A few highlights: Rooftop restaurant and terrace. On the day of Kulturmeile, the roof terrace was open to the public. I don’t know if it usually is. Museums of various themes on different floors. Fun industrial designs at every turn. The locker area provides a jar of chips if you don’t have coins to operate the locks. How very considerate. Just a few minutes of walk from the central station. The location is great. The cinema, called Kino im U, has unique and alternative screenings, especially for kids and for those interested in a broader international offerings. Worth keeping an eye on its program.
Handan B — Google review
Pretty nice building with an overview of Dortmund! It is free to access and on the 7-th floor you can enjoy a picturesque view over the city. There is also a cafe. On the other levels there is an art exhibition which you can also see but it isn't anything special. You can take the elevator or use the escalator.
Martin Z — Google review
This place is definitely a must if you're visiting Dortmund. Once a famous brewery, this building from the 1920s has not only survived the massive bombing campaign of WWII, but also the sands of time. After the brewery closed, this landmark was reinvented and revamped to become an art galley, music club, bar and restaurant - there's always something going on here. Even if you just take the journey up to the rooftop terrace to take in the stunning views of the city and beyond, you will not be disappointed 😁

Modern art museum
Museum Ostwall is located in a former brewery and houses an extensive collection of 20th-century artwork. Founded in 1948, the museum moved to the Dortmunder U in 2010. It initially showcased Expressionist and New Objectivity works that were considered degenerate art by the Nazis.
I visited one Sunday morning and it was marvellous to see so many families with young children enjoying the museum. The permanent collection was fascinating - many artists who were new to me. And wonderful views from the rooftop.
Michael M — Google review
If you value your peace of mind, save this place for a day when you have the patience to handle unsettling behavior. The staff and security create an uninviting atmosphere, constantly watching and following visitors. Combined with the poorly arranged artwork, it’s almost impossible to explore without feeling scrutinized, making the experience both uncomfortable and frustrating.
Mina K — Google review
I had a great experience here in the main exhibitions, which are free to visit. I would happily come back again. Only minor part is that the security outnumbered the visitors and sometimes i felt as if they were following me around as if i was going to steal the art. Apart from that the exhibitions were interesting and some were interactive with AR and VR available. You can also get to a nice view point on the roof. I would definetely reccomend visiting.
Phil — Google review
I would recommend you to take your time for this. The videos take quite a while to watch, but they are really interesting! The pigeon boot was really fun I think. Also, I say art that gives hope of escape of punishment, which I liked. And people going extremes, but for that paying a high price. I didn't really like the kid show. The view on the city was nice on the topfloor. Also skate-videos created enthousiasm.
Daniël J — Google review
It’s good for a family visit. In my opinion, it’s overpriced. 5-6 euro would be a better fit. The museum is modern and its interior is original. First 5 floors (4 to be precise, cause there are no exhibitions on the 1st one) are free to visit, you need to pay to enter 6th floor and roof. The view from the roof is nice but there’s not much space there. Staff on the 6 floor are nice but they’re following you and sometimes stare at you too obviously, like you’re going to steal or break something. It distracts you from enjoying artworks. Staff on the 1st floor are not perfectly polite and are not very friendly. At least they could smile cause I smiled to them anyway. And AC was too strong, it was really cold and not comfortable in some halls. As a resume - you can visit this museum and some artworks are really great but it could cost less.
One T — Google review
I feel sad when i see a local museums not aspiring for more. Why having all those great exibitions, and than all in German, why not trying to attract broader audience? Than, the marking of the photos and conecting it to their names and descriptions is done really poorly. I understand you wanted all to be as aestethic as possible, but information is still very important. Have seen museums with similar issues, they solved it with extra leaflets that were more clear. Another thing that amazed me is that there was ONLY ONE person working at the cash register. And when she went on break, we were told to wait for 10 minutes. In a museum full of staff, you could not train one more person to be a quick substitute.
Antonija P — Google review
We arrived around 17:20h knowing that they were closing at 18h, we just wanted to go for a little walk, but already from the entrance door all the security people were so annoying, repeatedly indicating that we should leave the building at 17:50h and that we should hurry to see what we had planned. I left the place quite annoyed. They have free and paid exhibitions, we were interested in Klare Kante and we really enjoyed it, the exhibitions itself worth it. Another detail is that you can find young people in the corridors of the museum who are there to spend the afternoon not because they are interested in visiting it, you can notice they do this every weekend, playing loud music on their phones and talking to each other in a very rude way, if security is so strict they should be careful with that too, it gives a very bad image to the museum.
Cris P — Google review
It was closed. Except for the viewing deck.

Brauerei-Museum Dortmund is an industrial-style space that showcases the city's rich history of beer brewing. The museum offers exhibits detailing the laborious process of beer-making and provides guided tours of its facilities. With a brewing tradition dating back to the 13th century, Dortmund was once home to nine major breweries at the peak of industrialized production in the 20th century.
Super interesting museum, to my surprise the entrance was free. We completed the tour through the museum in about 1-2 hours. A lot of attention is paid to the presentation of the old brewery, unique museum about the history. Definitely recommended.

Excellent free museum with the history of brewing in Dortmund on display! Beer can be purchased to take away, with the understanding that DAB Export is not available.
Chris M — Google review
Very interesting small museum which is free to enter! There are a lot of brewery machinery, posters and bottles. True fans of German beers would be delighted to experience the atmosphere in this museum. It is not a popular destination so it won't be overcrowded. Overall, I would definitely recommend visiting Brewery Museum Dortmund even if you are not a fan of beer.
Martin Z — Google review
Very interesting visit. There is a film in German with English subtitles and that was interesting too. One of the staff had been there around 46 years and travelled the world. He was very welcoming as well as the staff. There was no guided tour at the time or beer sampling so the visit was free. Great for a short visit.

Absolutely a Must experience for a beer lover! A lot of history and A free to visit museum if your road is near to Dortmund. Easy to come .

I didn't arrive on the day of the guided tour but they did give me a booklet of the exhibited items so that I could understand the history and story of what I was seeing. I enjoyed an hour and a bit of the history not only if the many many breweries in Dortmund but of the whole process of making the beer and the distribution network in those times.

Nestled in the heart of Dortmund, the LWL Industrial Museum Zollern stands as a remarkable tribute to the region's rich industrial past. This former coal mine, with its stunning Art Nouveau entrance and striking red brick architecture reminiscent of a Gothic castle, invites visitors to delve into the evolution of mining technology and its profound impact on society. Inside, you'll find an impressive Machine Hall showcasing historic machinery from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, alongside exhibitions that illuminate the life of miners.
An old mine reserved as an industrial museum. Very informative exhibition about coalmining and the miners. Very nice art-deco architecture. Plenty of good photo motives. They start to implement holographic explenations/displays
Uwe D — Google review
Absolutely nice place to visit. The exhibition is absolutely nice but not spectacular. It was pretty plain ... but maybe the time of the year didn't help. The architecture and set-up of the complex is a very nice pro.

Such a beautiful place, not just a museum but also a place to visit even if you don't like artifacts. Totally worthy. There is a nice restaurant inside as well, which is also very good.
Farjad N — Google review
Nice industry museum with plenty of free parking and unique architecture set in a former hard coal mine. Most buildings are accessible and one of the towers is climbable. I took the free tour with a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide who even had the large compressor in the machine hall started.
Giselmey — Google review
Huge site dedicated to coal mining at the turn of century, 1900-1930. Fabulous Art Deco buildings, the steel & glass engine room in particular. Great collection of motors & winding gear, the climb up the tower provides a good birds eye view. Excellent museum, especially of social history & hard life of the miners. €5/person, cafe, toilets (note back of toilet doors!). The sheer size of the place & what has been achieved is awesome.
Gill C — Google review
Very few people there when we visited. Extremely well presented industrial heritage museum about coal mining. The power generation and winding gear building was a big surprise because it was Art Nouveau and so well laid out. Climbing to the top of the mine winding gear was the highlight for me. The exhibition about diversity was not relevant.

Super cute botanical garden with every single plant being labeled. The Chinese garden as well as the greenhouses with all the cactuses were the highlight. Really well taken care of, big space. Loved it!!

Excitingly beautiful garden with various exotic plants around the world and exhibits (sometimes have to pay or donate for a few euros) Entrance to the garden and green houses are free.

It's a great place to take your friend and family. They have several exhibits covering Savannah, Australia, south east Asia etc. The green houses are climate controlled and every one of them are different. They are meticulously maintenaned by the botanists in the university. There is a nice cafeteria if you need a break; a lot to see. All the trees and plants are labeled for your convenience. I did not see a guided tour as such.

Lovely little oasis of calm. Great for a nice walk with lots to see. The Chinese garden is beautiful. The three themed (rain forest, desert, savanna) hot houses are well laid out and planted. Good access although could be difficult in parts for wheel chair users as some of the ramps are overgrown.

Such a huge park. Feel like walking inside a forest. I had a chance to see ew species of plants which I haven't seen in India. Also found a 200year old fossil tree.

Wow! Just wow! Stunning park with trees from all over the world. Loved how every species has a sign with its name and some information. There are some cafes in the park, although I would recommend to bring some picnic from home since they don't have a wide offer and nothing beats laying on the grass with your own sandwich. Highly recommended to explore and walk around.

We went with my wife and my friend to see EMPIRE PHARAOHS an Immersive Journey and it was really good show. The size of the picture, surrounding sound, subtitles in German and English. Also located near former and historical steel plant, which is something very interesting to see. Plenty of parking lot across the street with a parking meter. I highly recommend

Great place, price was around 16€ i think. If you don't know to expect, here's a short explanation without giving out too much of a details: You enter a big room which was a factory before where you going to watch a 10 to 15 minute video and light (more video) immersive show(neaning you will be surrounded by videos which are playing on each wall. Beautiful sound, beautiful video production, make sure to look around when a show playing, because pictures sometimes are different on different walls. You will find different sitting arrangements throughout the room even bin bags, but not too much - you can freely walk around without stepping on people.
Kateryna M — Google review
A very lovely place that will take your breath away. The music is nicely added to the pictures and animations. There is a lot of space and you can stay as long as you wish. Comfi pillows on the floor make it a very relaxing place.
TheGucke — Google review
We were not visiting a Phoenix des Lumières for the first time, the last time being in Baux-en-Provence. Comparing the two, I have to say the other location was a lot bigger and prettier. I think the show there was indeed shorter, but this was calculated as a 1.5 hours show and it lasted only 60 minutes. Also, the air quality was pretty bad. Climatizing the space would be highly appreciated. Also a bit more love into details would be amazing - they had a selfie room but it really wasn’t saying anything about the exhibition itself or the location.
Ana P — Google review
Wow. I was blown away by this experience. We went with the family and literally everyone was blown away by the presentation and detail. My son was interacting with the moving objects on the ground and my wife and myself kept looking at the show in amazement. We stayed for a second run and still had loads of little details to pick up on. What an experience. You should definitely check this out. Full recommendation. 👌🏽👌🏽 P.S.: Buying tickets in advance can help, but in our case the queue at the online tickets entrance was in fact longer than the ticket to the cashier. Waiting was minimal though and the staff was really nice and helpful.

Museums
The Museum of Art and Cultural History showcases human creativity throughout history, displaying items from antiquity to modern times. Admission to the regular exhibit is free, providing a tour of Dortmund's evolution from the stone age to present day. The museum boasts an interesting collection of art, which can be appreciated by wandering through its exhibitions. Visitors are recommended to allocate ample time for exploring all that the museum has to offer. The staff are friendly and helpful, making for a pleasant experience overall.
I like to visit a museum that tells the local story whenever I’m in a new place, and this one seemed like it would be the place. The start wasn’t what I was looking for - paintings. Not a paintings person, unless they tell a story. A painting is just a painting. I was in the temporary space. Once I got to the permanent space I was happy. Information and relics from small early settlements, stories of how those small early settlements became bigger middle age settlements, and what happened after that. It’s all in German so I was running the google translate camera all day. I think there might be an audio guide - saw little headphones with numbers - but I didn’t see one. The place was mostly empty on a Saturday afternoon. Entrance is free. The exhibits are arranged in rooms along the outside walls of a building that is modern with a great central area that is likely used for recitals and concerts.
Michael B — Google review
I like the building and the collection. I found it interesting but there is no information in English and sparse info in German. Worth visiting but before you go find info on the Internet or a book or some such to enhance visit. No info in any other languages. Seems a bit odd. It is free.

Absolutely great museum! Entry to the regular exhibition is free (at least on Sunday) at it takes you on a tour through the ages and tells a story about how Dortmund and the area around it evolved throughout the ages, starting from the stone age, all the way up to modern day Dortmund. The museum features an array of impressive cars and engaging displays, making it a must-visit for car enthusiasts. Additionally, there is a cafe on the first floor offering delectable treats like cinnamon buns.
It's a great place for all car enthusiasts. Take your time with headphones and a tablet or your own cell phone, sit on the windowsills and enjoy the peace and fascination. A cinnamon bun with coffee and the great smell make the experience complete.
Christian T — Google review
The bottom line - Cool place even if you're not a die hard car fan. Beautifully designed. The atmosphere - Young and electric, but also pretty chill and filled with car fans that are just there to admire the vehicles. The staff - All were fun and nice but a couple felt pretty fake.. The food - The buns are awesome. However, wayyy too sweet. If they would cut the sugar by half it would be perfect. We took €26 for 6, I love to try everything. Original - good but boring. Original glazed - Super. Cheesecake - Nice. Coconut - Disliked. Pistachio - Yum. Chocolate - Too sweet but ok. VFM - €14 is quite a bit.. but I think it's worth it, you can feel how much planning went into the space. Tips - * Register to the simulator before entering the museum, the wait is pretty long. * Tablets tend to run out, but you can also scan QRs everywhere and hear about the cars. Unfortunately it's only in German. * Best to go on weekdays. * If you see a white GT3 RS parked outside, JP is there.. he's nice but not super chatty and likes his privacy, which is understandable. So try not to be a clueless groupie.

A fantastic and interesting museum. It is clear that it is built on a genuine interest and love for cars and engines. I recommend everyone to visit, if only for a coffee and cinnamon bun in their café. As a Swede, I must say that this is the best cinnamon bun I have ever had in Germany.
Cazzandra L — Google review
Very nice museum. The only reason why I ranked it at 4 out of 5 is cuz my expectations were a bit elevated after watching Larry Chen's video. I visited the museum during the weekday, and I'd say it was 50% busy. However, the parking lot was full, so please figure out your parking situation in advance. Bonus: There's a cafe on the first floor that serves probably the best cinnamon buns I've ever eaten! Pro tip: there are QR codes on the info tabs near each car. You can scan the code and watch short videos about the particular car.
Alex P — Google review
Beautiful place and full of automotive history! I cannot believe how nice it was and the history in that building! Again a place made for fans of a YouTuber but really was only possible BECAUSE of the fans. People where taking the utmost respect in this building and treating everything as if it was thier own home. A humbling experience! We visited on a heat wave so I just wish they had some AC! Also everything is in German so you gotta know! But you can still enter and appreciate the cars if you don't know anything. Fantastic place!
Dustin L — Google review
Wonderful museum with some incredible cars and fantastic displays. The staff is helpful and friendly, the building is beautiful, and it's very obvious this place caters to people who love cars. It was a bucket list item for me to come from Canada and visit this place and I'm happy to say it was worth the drive up from Stuttgart to Dortmund. I think my favorite part of the museum was probably the rotating cars in the basement that belong to the public, though! The Time Attack sim racing was incredibly fun as well, and definitely an enjoyable way to cap off looking at the museum. The cinnamon buns in the Cafe in the museum are also probably the best I have ever had. Almost worth going for those alone. I wish I could give this place 5 stars but my only issue was the tablets/headphones weren't really applicable for me because my German isn't great, so I couldn't hear JP talk about these cars in detail.

Casino Hohensyburg is a modern casino hotel located south of Dortmund, featuring a glass-fronted design and offering live music, bars, and restaurants. The site is situated in protected parkland with the ruins of a medieval castle dating back to the 8th century. The remnants of the 12th-century castle include defensive towers and walls that are still in decent condition despite being abandoned around 450 years ago.
Extremely nice staff! Especially the pit bosses and table dealers! Very clean casino, smoking is restricted to outside on the patio. Unfortunately many of their dealers were ill so we couldn’t get on a Texas Hold’em table last night but management was very apologetic about the situation and took care of a round of our drinks. Played the slots and had some luck! Good cocktails and fast bar service. We really enjoy this place! Well done!

I wasn't let in despite having a visa because supposedly my country is under high suspicion of money laundering which somehow translates to me not being let in. This is the definition of racism to be judged and denied entrance based solely on where you come from. They also lied regarding a law saying I'm not allowed in any casino in NRW, 20 minutes later I'm having a great evening spending my money somewhere else. Despicable behavior.
Bashar D — Google review
Unfortunately, my experience with the reception desk right when you enter the building was negative. I went there before noon on August 7, 2021 to get general information about requirements for international travelers. A careless lady and a very rude gentlemen working on the desk offered no assistance, not even a greeting. After I finally interrupted their personal chitchat by greeting them, the gentleman mustered me and reluctantly answered my question in one or two words. What a shame for customer service! Such a beautiful place but I will not come back.

Judging by all the reviews and recommendations I thought it would be a great place to visit. It is not. The house itself is closed and locked. The museum only open on sundays between 11.00 and 15.00. If you want to enjoy the scenery and go for a forest walk then yes it's very nice. But don't expect to much of the house itself. The information is very misleading about that. The DASA Working World Exhibition is a contemporary museum that offers interactive displays showcasing the history, present and future of work. One of the highlights of the exhibition is an amazing construction playground that kids will surely enjoy. The other parts of the exhibit are also entertaining with a variety of unique and playful displays that allow children to try them out. Among these displays, there is a Kuka Robot which demonstrates the exceptional speed and precision that factory robots possess.
Fascinating permanent exhibition/museum focussed upon the evolving work of work, with an emphasis upon safety. DASA sits under the remit of bAuA, which is located next door and so there is a strong alignment to their themes of occupational safety and health. Interesting exhibits, with a nod toward interactive zones. Particularly well put together areas focussed upon printing and weaving. I’m not a very interactive person, but overall they get the balance right here. Full size crane and construction machinery in the centre courtyard a bonus. Giant hall with steel-working machinery. The restaurant is currently closed, but temporary food facilities are in place. A bit of a walk from the centre of Dortmund; get the train or a taxi to arrive.

I never cease to amaze how cool the Germans present galleries, museums, etc. Here you can find answers to all professions and how everything works. A lot of interactive things. Cool for adults and children. You will stay there for at least 3 hours🔥

TikTok lies to us. We expected more, exhibitions closed (the space curl for example) or broken, also interactive doesn’t mean just to click a button, it’s should be something immersive. The fly simulator was a waste of time, they took 20min per person to explain, so if you are the 5th in the line you will need to wait almost 2 hours. Also it’s just and screen, nothing 4D experience. They can improve it making the presentation with a forum and expends less time aboard. If you doesn’t speak German, they don’t have audio guides, everything it’s in German. The LFW were also broken. The thematic it’s good, but the operation it’s bad executed.

Kokerei Hansa, situated in Dortmund, Germany, is a remarkable industrial heritage site that operated as a coking plant from 1928 until its closure in 1992. This imposing facility was integral to the region's coal and steel industry, converting coal into coke for steel production. Visitors can explore the site on guided tours or use audio guides to learn about the coking process and experience the industrial history of Dortmund firsthand.
We couldn't really find a museum but we walked around the grounds freely and were amazed by the absurd size of these steam engines. If you are in the area it is definitely worth stopping by. The original engine room can also be seen in its full glory, very nice
Bas G — Google review
Visiting such a plant is surely an acquired taste. Would’ve been ideal if the plant had information [signs] dotted around the plant - there’s one at the entrance and then nowhere else. Also half the plant is currently being renovated or repaired - so it was a rather short visit.
Avesta — Google review
What an awesome place. Dortmund is doing a lot to revitalize this area and keep the steam punk industrial vibe going
James D — Google review
I love abandoned industrial sites even when they are turned into museums. Due to Covid, there are no guided tours, but you can wander there on your own for free. The remnants of the plant look super cool: they are huge, old, rusty - perfect for fallout lovers. =)

Very interesting site of an old factory. Great for photography and a bit of urban exploring. Tours are only in German, i just walked around the site by myself which is completely free of charge. The were only a couple of people when I was there.

Steinwache, a former police station located across from the Hauptbahnhof, was taken over by the Gestapo in 1933 and became known as 'the Hell of West Germany.' Initially used to imprison communists and social democrats, it later held thousands of forced laborers from Eastern Europe on false charges. The museum's exhibits are only in German, but visitors can use a free booklet for information.
Very interesting place. Not well advertised but well worth a visit. All exhibites are in German but there is an English guide book available. Free to enter, but we found it very informative so gave a donation.
Tracie S — Google review
The presentation is only in German, however, the museum has a (free) booklet that you can walk around with that highlights the information in each room. We also used Google Translate on some information that was not in the booklet that we wanted to understand. The museum is free, definitely worth a visit and hopefully, soon, it will become more known about. While we were there, we saw, maybe, another 8 people. We viewed just about everything, so we were there over 2 1/2 hours. The staff of two men, on the day we were there, were helpful and friendly. One of them stated he had lived in Dortmund for 30 years and didn't know this place existed until he went to work there. We've been in Dortmund at least 10 times and didn't know this existed either. The entrance is behind Steinstrasse, through the courtyard on the left, right behind the white gate wall. Please understand that it is difficult to rate a place that has a horrific history, as excellent. This is based on the presentation & encounters with staff.
L R — Google review
The entry was free of charge. Not a lot of artefacts but a lot of pictures and all the explanations were in German but there were brochures in different languages offered at the reception that explained each room in detail.

Worth coming here for the story. It gives the full context of the rise of power of the Nazi s and how they surpressed their opposition. The rooms are not written in English but you can ask for a booklet at the entrance, still doesn't give you all the details that you need but it sets you in the right direction. The entrance is not very obvious and feels more like a government building. Someone made a really good recommendation to use Google translate to translate things that are written down so that was really helpful. Overall it is an interesting place for history buffs and for those that have the patience to read. I saw there was a tour conducted in the building in German, so for a better experience, finding a tour might be an interesting experience and someone to give more context.
Stefan T — Google review
An interesting former Gestapo museum. Small but interesting. Exhibitions only in German language. Very hard to find, behind hbf, but front entrance still hard to locate (in a courtyard behind white gates

Nestled within the historic heart of Dortmund, the Kindermuseum Adlerturm is a delightful destination for families eager to explore the city's medieval past. This reconstructed tower, originally part of the city wall from centuries ago, stands at an impressive 30 meters and offers interactive exhibits that engage young minds. Visitors can delve into fascinating displays featuring knights, armor, and even a skeleton! The museum also showcases captivating videos demonstrating ancient weaponry like catapults and old guns.
Amazing indoor museum for kids. Really good option for a rainy day. The lady at the museum welcomed us warmly and she really knows how to deal with a toddler. The museum entry is for free.
K E — Google review
This old tower, part of the wall around the town, is set up as a Children’s Museum. I found it easy to read the German information with my limited German and enjoyed the displays. I especially liked the videos showing the use of catapults, old guns, and sword fights. The town model makes it easier to see how the downtown layout originated. I can see children enjoying the displays of knights and armour and, of course, the skeleton. It could be a memorable part of the day for children under 10.

The journey from Koln to Dortmund was eventful, with the traveler encountering a minor setback upon arriving at an incorrect location in Dortmund. However, they persevered and walked for an additional hour before stumbling upon a mesmerizing fireworks display that left them captivated. The incident serves as a reminder that sometimes, when one's heart yearns for something, the universe works in mysterious ways to make it come true.
I traveled from Köln to Dortmund and spent all this time getting here. Unfortunately, I ended up at the wrong location in Dortmund, so I had to walk for an additional hour. In fact, they clinched the prestigious gold medal in London back in 2012. Rowing has deep roots in Dortmund and is highly successful and traditional here.

Philippe Jaroussky's concert at the Dortmund Concert Hall was truly a night to remember. The atmosphere was incredibly intimate, with the musicians forming a band that exuded a casual vibe rather than a formal orchestra. When Philippe Jaroussky took the stage, he appeared so approachable and down-to-earth. Yet, the impact of his voice was nothing short of extraordinary and left a lasting impression on us (my wife is a big fan). His performance was a beautiful blend of talent and humility. What made the evening even more special was when he came to the lobby after the concert, taking selfies with fans and signing autographs. It's not every day that you get to interact with such a gifted artist in such a personal way. If you have the opportunity to see Philippe Jaroussky perform live, don't miss it. It's an experience that will stay with you for a long time.

(Translated by Google) This time we went to the Dortmund Opera for a performance of the musical Sweeney Todd. Both the foyer and the interior are spacious, very clean, modern and well-kept 👍. We had seats in the middle with a good view, although you should have a relatively good view of the stage from all seats. Legroom is good and the seats are comfortable. There is a bar here and a locker with a deposit system in the foyer. You can park easily in the underground car park under the theater. If you park from 6:00 p.m. you can park there at the event rate of 5 euros. We liked it there so much, we immediately booked the next event there.🤗 (Original) Für eine Vorstellung des Musicals Sweeney Todd hat es uns dieses mal in die Dortmunder Oper verschlagen. What I really like about the theater is that it has an underground car park. I also thought it was really cool to be able to see the orchestra while it was playing! The staff was friendly and always pointed you in the right direction with a smile. That's a small negative point for me: if you don't sit at the bottom, it's a bit difficult to find the way to your seat because there are no signs. Otherwise a very nice, clean theater with a pleasant atmosphere and plenty of seating before the play or during the break. Gladly again! (Original) Ich habe mir Sweeney Todd angesehen. Super Vorstellung! Gerne wieder!

The "Planespotter Aussichtspunkt Dortmund Flughafen" is a fantastic location for aviation enthusiasts and curious visitors alike. Situated about 10 km east of Dortmund's city center, this spot offers a great vantage point to observe aircraft as they approach for landing. While it lacks a direct view of the runway, you can still enjoy clear sightings of planes coming in from afar, making it an excellent opportunity for photography. However, be cautious when leaving the area since visibility of traffic is limited.

Amazing place to chill and relax with family and friends in the summer

Would absolutely visit this again. We got tickets for the pools and the salt grotto and we had such a great time, that I was sad we didn't go earlier in the day so we could have been there longer. It wasn't too crowded, even though there were plenty of people there; they have a great variety of pools indoors and outdoors with a beach area and towers for jumping into the water. The pools have different temperatures so there's something for whatever you need right now. I grew up in a town that's basically known for its brine products and brine bath, so I wasn't expecting Solebad Wischlingen to live up to that, but it did. The salt grotto was very relaxing as well ☺️

Best place to take Hot salty bath with family and children where is tropical atmosphere the only negative are big open windows almost every where ,they allowed the wind to enter and feel really cold specially if you are on some medicine .when ask nicely to close the windows to keep warm the staff will answer you ok the windows actually must be open all the time ???but if insist they will ...close them for 10 minutes and they will keep them open again just you can imagine if temperature is maybe _10 or plus 10 and a lot of wind.

Monkey Town Dortmund is a clean and family-friendly indoor playground with a welcoming staff. It's an excellent place for children's birthdays, offering a great time for both kids and adults. The facility has good ventilation but could use some improvement in that area. With plenty of fun games, it's easy to spend 3 to 4 hours here, making it an ideal spot for kids who are very happy with the experience.
Excellent place for kids. Many good games. Can spen easily 3 to 4 hours. Very near to U bahn.

The worst experience even in summer. The staff has fan for them selves and nothing for the parents and children. Too hot in summer not even the windows were opened. We asked the staff for some air conditioner or even a fan and they said it’s not available. Even the staff is so unfriendly. So much suffocation. Totally not recommended in summer.

Boulderwelt Dortmund is a top indoor bouldering gym with climbs suitable for all ages and skill levels, featuring various angles and endurance routes. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful, while visitors can expedite their check-in process by completing a waiver in advance. The gym also offers a cafe with plenty of food and drink options, as well as a small gear store on-site.
We had a great time celebrating my kid's birthday at Boulderwelt with a climbing workshop. Everything was perfect. The kids had fun. The trainers were super energetic and had great communication skills with the kids. I don't think I've come across another place in Germany that can match this level of professionalism with joy.
Berna Z — Google review
Best bouldering gym in Germany so far I’ve visited. Interesting routes with the use of islands, several walls for balance, jumps, overhang, few cave-like areas and a levitating sphere are for both overhang and body positioning training. The only if you go with a kid the age under 14, he climbs in a separate area though quite nice and well designed. There is cafe, chilling area and a nice shop with branded clothing for climbing. The entry at this time was around 14 euro, discounts for public servers and students. Definitely recommend, new or experienced, you’ll enjoy it!
Olga — Google review
It is my personal bouldergym. The route setting is really good. The food is a bit too expensive but there is water for free. It is clean and overall a good climbing gym. The only critigue i have is that the grading keeps on getting more stiff. Now a 6 feels like a 7 from a few months ago. I like that the difficulty is rising but then add more grades.
Flaviu N — Google review
One of the best indoor bouldering gyms in the area. Climbs for all ages and skills in all kind of angles. Transition from one level to another should be easier with all the climbs available and the endurance routes. Staff is super friendly and happier. Complete waiver ahead of time to make check in faster. Cafe has plenty of food and drinks options to refuel during your climbing session. There is a small gear store in case you want or need anything.
Napo — Google review
Really good place for training (you find there a spray wall, moon and kilter) and just climbing, setting is on top level. Just one thing to make it fully the best - could you invest in olimpic bars, maybe only one, you have a lot of plates, but we can use them only to hang or pull up with. Think about that, but over all very good place!
Piotr S — Google review
Amazing gym. Love the boulder problems, such fun movement and flow. The aesthetic is nice. The snack bar is great. Would come back!!
Mc K — Google review
Nothing to complain about. I love it so much. The food is a reasonable price.
Xt O — Google review
Boulderwelt is a very nice gym with plenty of beautiful routes. Only thing that I hate about here is the hatches that are open in cold and windy days. I don’t know if i am the minority or not but when the hatches are open i call my training session done to avoid muscle spasms. Additionally, a bigger commune area to warmup and cold down would be great. Other than that it is an amazing gym.
