That was the best museum that I've ever seen. Fossils, ancient Egypt, Knight armours, various minerals and stones, amazing tiffany glass examples, stunning old jewelleries, ancient Rome miniatures and more... It was absolutely amazing. 3 floors took my 3 hours and I could've stay even more.

It is a huge museum having 7-8 sections ranging from science, arts to history. The hardwork of workers in preserving the biological samples is admirable. You can come with kids to give them a good insights into different subjects. It is fantastic museum.

Excellent natural history museum with interesting mineralogical and zoological collections in addition to a range of works of art from both the ancient and modern world. In my opinion the heart of the museum is in the collection of fossils from the nearby Messel site, as they are incredibly well prepared and presented.

A surprisingly fulfilling museum with interesting exhibits in all areas ranging from art and history to the natural world. Be sure to reserve a good three or more hours for this place if you want to get round everything, as it has a vast collection - especially of art. The Max Liebermann exhibition was on when I visited. This was one of the best parts and was a well put together exhibition with interesting pieces. Most of the descriptions of the pieces are in German but this didn't reduce any of the entertainment for me. One kind employee even had a nice chat with me about the permanent collection. Entry is cheap and discounted for students so I undoubtedly recommend a visit as I believe it's one of the most interesting places to visit in Darmstadt!

We came for the art deco section and especially the jewelry part. This is the best display of jewelry I have ever seen. And the rest of the museum is also excellent. Beautiful pieces and excellently displayed. A must see for everyone. Very helpful security, especially in the art deco section where we were pointed towards the available drawers with even more jewelry.

Unbelievable from the inside. An architectural masterpiece, you can actually feel the vibes when you're within it. A sight to behold and experience. Words won't do it justice!

Great building to look at incase you are a fan of the hundertwasser style. Sadly can only have a look from outside and not able to get in or go to the garden, but then again it is an apartment complex, so quite happy there was a way to go in between the two buildings.

Absolutely a must see in June! The rose garden is beautiful, and there is so much to see. We had to break it up into two trips. It's hard to believe this place is free to visit at any time.

Because of the historical elements, this park serves as more than just a green space for relaxation and leisure. It is also a historical site and has many places of interest for history lovers. Beautifully manicured gardens, rose dome, plenty to benches along the pathways, and so many historical structures. Overall a wonderful experience.

Went for a walk here. It was lovely. Quiet, spacious, and easy to get around. Not many flowers yet, but that didn't matter. Still a beautiful place to be. I'll go back when more is blooming. It feels like the kind of place that's worth seeing in different seasons.

Its a very beautiful place to visit for nature lovers.Planty varieties of flowers are bloomed.When we visited roses are not bloomed yet.The rosarium with rose dome is a must visit. Good place to visit with family or friends for relaxation. Benches are available along the pathways. Dogs are also allowed. Apart from greenary, trees, there are some interesting historical structures like mausoleums, tea house, spanish tower and lion entrance gate are worth a visit.

The park is beautiful in all the months throughout the year. Every month different flowers bloom and make it a wonderful place to visit.

On a beautiful day it was great to expedite the garden. Landscape is great. You can find a bank to sit on and relax reading your book.

The Herrngarten in Darmstadt is a lovely park that offers a cozy and peaceful atmosphere. It’s a great place to visit with family, take a walk, and enjoy the fresh air and serene environment. The vibe during the day is very relaxing, making it perfect for unwinding or spending quality time outdoors. However, I would recommend visiting during the daytime. In the evenings or after dark, some areas, particularly near the left entrance, are frequented by homeless individuals who seem to struggle with addiction. Seeing them can give a sense of insecurity, which might feel unpleasant for some visitors. Overall, Herrngarten is a beautiful spot to enjoy nature and spend time with loved ones during the day. Highly recommended for a peaceful outing!

It is such a quiet and lovely place to visit in Darmstadt, the 'Silicon Valley' of Europe. The garden has many different flowers and herbs. There are benches to sit on and chill out.

If your fantasy is sharp enough, it could be your oasis in an otherwise busy urban Darmstadt setting. Despite it being easy to notice the vast efforts undertaken by the local municipality to keep the park green and welcoming, it doesn't feel like it's too much and out of place. There is usually a decent amount of people spending time within the park no matter the time of the day. It's proximity to the university leads to the skewed population age towards young adults.

I like everything in the garden I love the ducks and the whole green area, and the lake, football, basketball playground s. Love it Except for the homeless people there.

It is a park with a lake and fields where you can pour your tea or coffee in a thermos, take a ball or something to play with, and go with your friends and family, have a picnic and play various games. Parents can definitely go there to have fun with their young children. Bird sounds and the beauty of nature literally make you forget that you are still in the city. (Well the videos were shot obviosly when there was rain, I would recommend going there in sunny weather 😅)

It’s beautiful and well taken care of. And a big plus point: there were very few people in it! Which makes it possible to have a peaceful walk.

Im trying to remember the last time I heard yelling in the museum. That literally never happens, right? You hear yelling at sports games, in the army, in prisons but never in the museum. Guess, what, we were yelled at in this museum by a door man who works there. Its worth mentioning that the museum is just a hallway with a dozen of mostly empty rooms, some furniture and a lot of mediocre paintings. Half way into walking around it, we heard some screaming and saw a large bald guy yelling at my wife’s 70 year old parents to get out. It turns out we walked into this empty building and didn’t pay 5 euro. It appears there is a tiny wood door on the first floor that was locked but that’s where we were supposed to buy the tickets. He screamed at us in German as if we broke into his house and stole something or assaulted somebody. “ Out, Out!!!”- he screamed at my mother and father in law. Once I started screaming back at him, he lowered his voice but continued to lead us out of the building. IMAGINE HOW SCREWED UP YOU MUST BE IN YOUR HEAD IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO YELL AT ELDERLY PEOPLE IN THE MUSEUM??? Here a tip to the management : if you work in the hospitality/education industry don’t hire people who think they guard a concentration camp. Let them exercise their authority in a more appropriate work environment, perhaps a prison? Also, if paying for the admission is such a big violation, make sure visitors dont freely walk into an area where admission is not free. Post a clear sign in ENGLISH where to buy tickets HOW MUCH THEY ARE and put a fence or a chain around areas that are off limits.

The structure is beautiful. The collection in the museum is also great. The Schlossgarten and the pond nearby make an ideal setting for a relaxed day in the lap of nature.

It is beautiful but inconvenient. We stayed in the back building and it was difficult to get to and hard to get up to the rooms with no elevator. Very important to note-no air conditioning. Staff is wonderful and restaurant is great.

It's one of the historical museums in Darmstadt in the state Hessen. Knowing about all the history about Prussian kings was wonderful. The palace has a good number of collections from royal materials, such as furnitures, swords, hunting materials etc.

This is a small zoo in Darmstadt, where suitable for a short visit of 2-3 hours. this zoo provide friendly space for children and family activities.

Went for couple hours and I was actually pleasantly with the diversity. Very good park and nice place to spend a day with kids. The internal restaurant is too expensive. Pretty cool activity to do in otherways mostly boring city.

It was very nice experience, not too many animals but at least the prices were reasonable and conveniently little people and walking.

This is a small Zoo but with heart and soul. The animals are treated good, there was enough food and space for each inhabitant. Some animals were lend out to other zoos so not all areas were filled. Entrance fee is really good compared to other zoos I have been to. The prices of the small cafe were too high (~4€ for fries) and it took way to long (~20 mins waiting time for fries...?), queueing excluded. The area is accessible with a wheelchair and the parking lots are close. Will be back for sure.

Not much to see cause not such a big zoo, but very nice and appealing for kids. Benches. Playgrounds. Clean. The crocodile hides and sleeps and not green.... Some listed animals missing. This was very nice for me and the kids.

The small animal park is a great day out with small children. We love the otters and the monkey house! Presently (October 2025) they are doing quite a bit of maintenance which means some of the enclosures are not available. Our family has had a membership since 2010 and highly recommend it.

It's lovely experience to see all those animal. There where a lot of young people looking after them. It was nice spend time and moment for learning about animal world.

Very interesting building with few fascinating murals. Three floors are open to visit, with the top one offering panoramic views. There is a closed info center, and very modest ticket counter on the ground floor, I just had a feeling there was no much info shared about the area.

I didn’t know about this when I entered first. Lady in reception was super I’m educating about the place etc. 4 Euro per person to see 4 floors. It was cloudy, however enjoyed the view. It will not blow your mind away, however it was to view the landscape, autumn colours etc

The wedding tower is really beautifull, bizarre in its shape, all floors have a charm.

It is a good place to be at. You can see the aerial view of Darmstadt, church, garden and Rhine valley. In wedding tower, you can visit only 2 rooms. Museum is not that great. Rest is very good. Church is majestic. The connectivity from luizenplatz is good. One can go by bus.

Cute the area from outside, but not worth going inside

Was really surprised on finding the tower and the connection to Art Nouvea movement which is evident in thew architecture and in the museum which I enjoyed visiting.Surviving examples of Jugenstil are apparant to be admired. The Wedding tower and Russian Chapel with its intersting historical connections are part of what is now a World Heritage site and should not be missed. Mary Shelley visited the Real Frankensteins castle nearby too if castles are your forte.Quite impressed as did not expect the town to have such a deep and varied history even connecting Queen Victoria.

The "wedding" tower is an important city's landmark, unfortunately not an impressive one. Frankly speaking I wanted to visit this place because it is an UNESCO heritage site, however I was rather disappointed. The tower itself, built in art nouveau style is beautiful - the red brick façade is amazingly contrasting with the unique roof arches made out of copper - but there is nothing much to see inside. The observatory deck is located on the 7th floor (accessible by stairs or elevator) and offers unimpressive views of Darmstadt - unimpressive because the city lacks a skyline  and there is no focal point. The decorated rooms (usually used for weddings) are blocked by glass doors therefore not fully accessible. To be honest, the most interesting part of the tower's interior for me is the lobby and its two major mosaic decorations, if you just visit this, you don't even have to pay (otherwise the entrance fee is 3 EUR). The surrounding of the tower is peaceful and nice. During Christmas time, we were able to grab a hot mulled wine in a nearby kiosk and stroll around the orchard and the orthodox church. Definitely not the most spectacular building, but if you are in the area, it's still nice to visit. Toilets available on the 6th floor. Paid by card. Visited in November 2022.

We came with the daughters to see some princessess stuff, at the end we found out the you get in only with a group once an hour and there is not much to see, only hear. And the daughters dont know nor german nor english. So this was a big diasapointment

Very good guided tour of the Hessen Darmstadt Royal family history. I had a great guide - Matthias, who speaks fluent English and is very passionate about his subject matter. No photos are allowed inside and 5 Euro per person. A must visit in Darmstadt.

Walk through history of royalties of Darmstadt, Hessen primarily through portraits, their connection with England, Russia, Bayern, Hamburg etc. and some interesting articles e.g. medals, musical clock etc. Overall not so many different type of exhibits but very good guided tour. Worth it!!

Interesting visit. The guide was really good, doing the whole tour in German and English, taking the tike to share with us non-German speakers a lot of interesting facts about the castle and the family.

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, particularly the female member of staff who gave us the tour in english. There was a lot to see in the museum and was definitely worth the entrance fee. But you do have to go as part of a tour and this may not always be in english. A visit is recommended.

Loved it!!! Anyone who visits Darmstadt and wants to learn some history should visit this place. Interesting stories, well organized exhibits and the tour guide is awsome. Would give 10 stars if I could.

They have a lot of interesting things to see. Though the staff following us everywhere was very annoying and distracting, there is always an uncomfortable feeling of someone looking at you with constant suspicion.

It is certainly one of the better cultural offers in Darmstadt, although the interior architecture is not matching the impressive outside. The seats in the great room are also only semi-comfortable. A two-hour show can get quite long. They do offer great shows and a high level of artistic performance though. The Operas are surprisingly good! Parking is easily available.

Children orchestra concert is the best thing I have been to with my 2.5 year old. He loved it. We will be back

Great theater and equally amaizing public space. Safe parking structure below the park. The park is a natural place of gathering and relaxing. People come here to enjoy good weather. Many events and cultural events are hosted here to make this place even better.

The Darmstadt Staatstheater is probably one of the nicest event halls in Hessen. You are being welcomed by the futuristic architecture of the outside square whereas the entrance hall has a gorgeous brutalist vibe. The stage itself is rather large and the seating comfortable. Upon the interval, a bar with drinks and snacks is available right near the amazing outside balcony.

The State of Hesse is responsible for the Staatstheater Darmstadt. In accordance with the theater contract dated November 24, 1971 in its currently valid version, the city of Darmstadt is involved with an operating subsidy of 48%. In the large house, which is mainly used by the opera, there are 956 seats and 8 places in the handicapped box. The Small House, in which mainly drama and dance performances are given, has 482 seats and also 8 places in the handicapped box. Since the refurbishment there has also been the Kammerspiele with 120 seats. The bar in front of the Kammerspiele has room for around 60 people, who can also have a drink here during a smaller performance. The Staatstheater Darmstadt has more than 500 employees. Every year about 40 pieces are newly staged in different categories. In the 2012/13 season, around 224,000 visitors came, which corresponded to an occupancy rate of 75 percent. In 2009/10 there were 260,000 spectators.[1] In the 2007/08 season, the Staatstheater Darmstadt received 26.4 million euros in public funds and was able to take in 3.9 million euros.

First of all,the artists' colony was founded in 1899 by Ernest Ludwig,Grand Duke of Hesse.Also,he is expressionist painter.Secondly,the artists' goal was to be the development of modern and forward-looking forms of construction and living.Finally,The Darmstadt Artists' Colony refers both to a group of Judgenstil artists as well as to the buildings in Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt in which these artists lived and worked.This place is a treasure for artistic people and art lovers...

Rude people, only german explanation, only few parts of the audioguide are in english. Is this area listed on world heritage?? By the way, some nice pieces to see. The only interesting spot in Darmstadt Mathildenhöhe

This is a beautiful building, stunning jugendstil architecture, and the surrounding is just as breathtaking. Important to know that the museum itself, inside, offers a very small exhibition, consists of one room and a small foyer, so it is maybe 20min visit, even if you read the texts...on the other hand, it only costs 3 euro. Exhibition wise, I suggest to visit the jugendstil department at the hessische landesmuseum

Not a big entry fee (3€) but nothing much to see except the awesome view of whole of Darmstadt from the top floor of the wedding tower. The view maked the fee worth it

I was pleasently surprised by this museum. Run by volunteers, I was taken on a tour of the train yard and they even had a steam locomotive that was cut into half that was used to explain how the trains worked. I definetely want to go back on one of the event days where they show off the trains in motion.

What an excellent experience. As it was a Sunday, we had a personal guide who did the tour in English. He was very passionate and extremely knowledgeable. I love trains and collect model trains, almost exclusively German. Seeing the old steam locomotives and other rolling stock was a truly magical experience. A definite recognition!

Fantastic museum. Tours in English available. We absolutely loved it and had a great time hanging out inside and on premises. I thought I knew a thing or two about trains but the tour guide definitely took me to a different level. Greatly appreciate the people making it possible!

Some interesting locomotives, however you can only go round with a tour guide, who only speaks German and shouts at you when you wonder away from the group, usually to see something you're interested in! Realistically mostly rusting rolling stock, I'm sure a good cause but not seeing the bigger picture. Nothing in English, so it has to be 2/5.

A great train museum if you are into historic rail. This is situated on an active line so it is quite usual to see freight rail pass by. I had an especially pleasant experience with one of the volunteers giving me a tour in English.

Very good place and nice people. You can see interesting German Steam locomotives and other type of trains.

The church is centrally located, hence can be reached easily. From the outside, it looks massive with its cylindrical structure and a huge dome. Inside the design is based on the Pantheon in Rome with pillars and a circular opening in the apex of the dome for light to enter. Pillars, the dome, the wall panels with sculptures and the tombs characterize the church. At the back, there is a small lovely garden.

This is a really cool venue with both an upstairs and downstairs theatre. Good capacity and great place to hear contemporary music (during Darmstadt summer festival). Good food at the food trucks outside too.

A good concert venue. They have all kinds of genres and tastes represented here - check the website to get the current calendar full of famous musicians and those who will soon be it.

Every concert so far has been great. Drinks are a bit pricey but that's normal for venues like this.

Very good place with many many events all over the year good organisation toilets are very clean, there are two bars when you can drink a glass of wine in a comfortable atmsphere I love the place, really cool 😎

I was passing by and noticed music in there so I was walking inside to find out that there was actually a party going on. Unfortunately it was said to be done already but I was offered to take a look for free. Prices were at student level and staff very friendly.

Wir kommen aber zu anderen spannenden Ausstellungen gerne wieder. Diese war übrigens kostenlos! Von daher o.k.! Dankeschön

Cool exibitions!

My wife's mother is from Darmstadt and we visit there often. Since I am fascinated with high places (especially historic ones) I had always eyed the Weißer Turm longingly, but it never seemed to be open for tours. Well, this time it was and, according to their website they are now opening limited hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays! Entrance to the tower was free, but donations are welcome and they had a nice book for sale. Easy steps ascended to each floor, where a photography exhibit was on display, and windows offered a nice view. You can climb as high as the floor just below the clock works (see the attached schematic). This is nice, but, for a tower junky like myself, anything less than the very top is somewhat of a dissapointment. However, if you (like my wife) are somewhat acrophobic, and do not share my passion for heights, you will find this to be a simple and safe-feeling climb to a pleasant view. She made the assent, and actually enjoyed it! Although the Weißer Turm does not really qualify as a destination attraction, if you happen to find yourself in the Darmstadt "Stadtmitte" on a Wednesday or Saturday, it is certainly well worth a visit!

Slightly disappointed with this. It's not "that" tall and currently (march 2025) the area directly around it is under construction so you really can't get too close to it. Not sure if it's ever open to go inside.

A white tower. Perfect place for meeting friends and using as a landmark for your lost children to run towards.

I've got a free entry coupon for this place from university. However, after coming here they made us wait so long, and in the end, they didn't accept the coupon. It states "1x free entry" on coupon and no expiry date. And they refused it. The workers were also disrespectful and not nice.

Well-maintained area. The trainers are very friendly. Courses challenging and designed with many great ideas, fun to use. They have 2 sections for children where the climbing is at hight around 1,5-2m, so parents can walk along and assist. Kid have to use the same technique to secure themselves. Lots of fun for also the little ones !

Awesome day! Great training for about 15 minutes, they even did it in English for me and my 2 sons, 10 and 12, then we had free run of the park! Different levels of difficulty to meet everyone adventure! Staff was amazing and always quick to help as needed. I felt 100% safe the entire time and even my 10 year old son could safely work the course alone!

There are picnic tables and facilities for those who don't want to climb. Some basic snack can be purchased. Parking is a short walk away. Great fun.

Museums and the open air lab have quite a few hands on activities making it interesting for kids. One can cycle /walk in the forest behind. Other activities like geocashing/ riddles solving etc can also be done in the forest. Great place for learning by observation.

The kids had fun at this place. Very friendly and professional staff. They really go out of their way.
