The Dutch Cheese Museum, also known as Kaasmuseum, is a captivating attraction located in the picturesque city of Alkmaar, Netherlands. Housed in a historic building, it offers an immersive journey into the world of cheese production and its cultural significance in Dutch heritage. Visitors can explore historical objects, paintings, and engaging presentations that showcase the evolution of cheese-making traditions in the region. The museum provides a comprehensive look at cheese making, trade, and its role in Dutch culture.
This museum is beautiful. As soon as we entered we were given some delicious cheese snacks. You could play lots of cheese themed games and watch a movie in your language! the souvenirs were beautiful. If you are in the area, go and visit it.

A very interesting and fun museum to visit. Among regularly exhibits one can find interactive games and video terminals that are pretty fun for children. The staff was nice and accommodating.
Zagreous — Google review
Well, we are not Dutch. Just a small museum? Yes, but small museums are our favorite. Although we found familiar objects and things, we also learned new things. In our country, cheese is eaten more fresh and there is no tradition regarding cheese maturation. Among other things, we had no idea that the Netherlands exports so much cheese. It was pleasant and fun and together with the Kaasmarkt it completed the beautiful day we spent in Alkmaar.

It is one of best place to visit, can watch cheese market which is held every Friday from March 10am-1pm. Arrive early to secure parking spot, it’s nightmare to find one with narrow roads. Loved the museum and area, worth visiting cheese market which is still ongoing with centuries old tradition.
Neeraj — Google review
Interesting idea of a cheese museum! On a small surface there are exhibits that show you how the activity of producing cheese has developed over time. The fact that it also has an interactive part makes the small museum even more interesting.
Claudia A — Google review
We were really excited for the little cheese snack, but we didn’t get anything :(. Otherwise it was really cute, they made the best of the space they have. <3
Elisa — Google review
A fun little museum, especially for kids, to spend an hour learning about the Dutch history of cheese 🧀. Lots of interesting facts to learn and machinery to see. My kids really loved the Interactive games in the museum, which kept them occupied quite a bit. The ladies at the entrance are lovely and the price is very fair. You even get a nice piece of cheese when you enter the museum and the kids get to do a fun sticker puzzle through the museum. If they hand it ik at the end they get a small price. Be sure to check the movie at the back which shows an insightful story you don't want to miss. It switches between English and Dutch every so often.
Rutger W — Google review
The museum opens at 13:00, both the museum and the shop are interesting. And can discover a lot of fun facts about cheese making, also there's a retro TV shows the cheese commercials from 1960 till recent.

It's not a large place but with a good collection. There's also a nice shop in a cafe inside.

Lovely museum! If you’re interested to learn a hit more about Alkmaar’s history, hit “De Victorie” gallery first - fun and interactive history of one of the founding moments of Alkmaar. Upstairs you can find the “Alkmaar Prachtstad” gallery, which features various important moments from the city’s past and present including a cool graphic design and fun movies and interactives. Art history more your thing? “Alkmaar and the Golden Age” is a gallery with some gorgeous 17th century paintings, and there’s also modern/contemporary art from the Bergen School of painting. The café has original and very tasty food, the shop is mainly books.
Inge — Google review
It was a good museum, it had some interesting paintings of Van Gogh as well. And the description on the paintings was also good

Musume has good measurement of COVID-19. The staff is friendly. It’s worth for EUR 12 to visit the museum and it’s very interesting to see the past of 15-16 centuries how Alkmaar fought with Spanish and got rich because of the trading. Worth to visit ;)

Accijnstoren, also known as the Excise Tower, is a historic structure dating back to the 1600s. Originally serving as a tax office where merchants declared their goods, it stands as one of the last remaining defense and excise buildings from that era. The tower's simple square stone design with a striking blue and white central tower offers great photo opportunities against its canal backdrop. Its construction includes brick and natural stone, featuring a prominent bell used to announce imported goods.
This beautiful building called the Excise Tower was built in 1622. It has a graceful wooden tower with a loud bell. The tower served as an office: anyone who wanted to import goods had to pay tax at the Excise Tower. Today, it serves as an office for the harbor master during the summer months. Excise taxes used to be an important source of income for the city. The Excise Tower has an almost square floor plan and is built of brick with natural stone bands. The bridge on which the tower is partly built was once a swing bridge. This was replaced in 1903 by a drawbridge. Which has since disappeared for the benefit of traffic. A crane stood on a headland near the excise tower. This was not a water tap, but a wooden hoisting system with a treadmill to lift heavy loads from a ship onto the quay.

The Beatles Museum, situated in Alkmaar, Netherlands, is a captivating destination for enthusiasts of the legendary British band. Nestled in the city center, this one-of-a-kind museum boasts an impressive assortment of memorabilia and artifacts associated with The Beatles. Its diverse exhibits offer insights into the band's journey to stardom and enduring impact on music history. Run by passionate owners, it features an extensive collection of books, records, and souvenirs related to The Beatles.
Largest Beatles Museum in the world. Owner has authored 85 books on The Beatles. Thousands of Beatles memorabilia. Original recording machine from Abbey Road Studio. €15 entrance fee. Short train ride from Amsterdam. Closed Monday. Well worth it to go and see.
Anthony C — Google review
What a gem when you least expected it. Amazing to see the effort put over the years to collect every imaginable Beatle's' related artifact. A true landmark and a highly enjoyable time capsule
Assaf A — Google review
More like a big shop than a museum. Not coherent, feels like a collector's display of random stuff than a museum that tries to tell a story. Also most of it is just merchandise... it's the museum of merchandise so if you're a collector and also want to buy things you'll enjoy.
Daniella A — Google review
The biggest Beatles museum is in Alkmaar? Yes it is! Its a bit of a mess but there is a lot too see. Originals, replicas from the Beatles, the owner is a real true fan. Some clothes from Elvis too and old radios and TVs. Very cool place, close from the center.
Helene-Magalie N — Google review
So much to see, very interesting. A must for Beatles fans
Troy B — Google review
Waw guys that was really a beautiful experience. The museum is big and there are so many rare things to see. Just think that only one collector did everything himself. Azing the founder of the museum is a surprising person, source of many news on the Beatles. You could be inspired by him. I really recommend to go, take a trip to the museum, it's amazing! and you have there a super nice souvenir shop as well.
Gianluca P — Google review
This is by far one of the most impressive and special museums I've ever visited. The museum is primarily the owner's own collection and he has stories for every item--made all the more impressive by the fact that it's an entire BUILDING of artifacts, two warehouse-sized rooms absolutely filled to the brim with diverse pieces and research. The displays range from incredibly rare albums and covers to curios like BEATLES BRAND MOTHBALLS. It truly conveys the scope of not only their music, but their cultural influence and how ubiquitous they became. The info boards are in both Dutch and English and contain a wealth of information. The owner's written a ton of books on the Beatles, to the point that they actually used his work as supporting research for a lawsuit. The museum itself is a labor of love--passion in every display. The Elvis portion has a surprising number of his personal belongings, such as clothes and jewelry, as well as a dedicated room with comfortable chairs for viewing Elvis concert recordings. The Sea Transmitter Ships are also not to be missed! I was honestly thrilled by them--absolutely beautiful, stunning, meticulous work coupled with research boards about the history of ship transmission and how it impacted music history. We arrived at opening and have to go back--it was too much to take in at once. I can't recommend this museum highly enough. If you go anywhere in Alkmaar, it should be here.
Donna K — Google review
Beyond unbelievable. Absolutely an amazing experience. You could spend a weekend here and not have taken it all in. The utmost importance of a Beatles tour. Cannot be missed if you're a music fan from any generation but especially if you're Beatles fan. I still have to do the Liverpool tour but I think I've already have seen the absolute best there is or ever will be. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nationaal Biermuseum De Boom is a unique establishment that combines a local bar with a beer museum, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Situated near Waagplein and the Dutch cheese market, it's conveniently located for visitors exploring the city center. The bar offers an extensive selection of local beers and wines, allowing patrons to sample before purchasing. The cozy tasting room provides an informal atmosphere, offering a quieter alternative to other nearby cafes.
Great wee museum. Lots of interesting information on beer and the history. Very nice bar to finish trying some samples. Couldn't believe the amount of free beer we were given as part of the entry price. Would highly recommend.

The most amazing bar with an amazing lady running it. So many choices of beer too. Highly recommended.
Brian S — Google review
I could only get there at around 4pm and was told because they close in an hour I can only see the museum and not have the beer samples which I was disappointed with. The museum itself is interesting, I was instructed to scan a QR code and there's numbers around the museum you type in to listen to subjects on the history. A good interactive idea but after the first few I gave up as it sounded like a poor AI audio description from Wikipedia or equivalent. Plus the numbers did not seem to go in order around the museum. Maybe if I went here during the day I would have had a better experience but I would advise don't bother going later in the afternoon as they don't seem to want you there.
Matthew G — Google review
Really nice and great place with many interesting information about beer and history of beer. After the exhibition you can Taste different beers.

The Grote or Sint-Laurenskerk is a remarkable Protestant church, renowned for its unique architecture and historical significance. Constructed between 1449 and 1525, this stunning church has undergone significant restoration work after being damaged during WWII. The current exhibition, which runs until July 7th, is an exceptional display of interactive screens that provide insight into the church's rich history.
With an impressive architecture, the church amazes with the fusion of religion and the secular. It is surprising that the entire pavement of the church is made up of graves. At the time of our visit in the church there was an activity for children, something with robots, right under the big organ. There is a cafe set up inside, which I think is amazing - and very secular, I think it's the only place in the world where you can drink coffee in a church!
Claudia A — Google review
I love this church - it’s a great marker for where you are when in Alkmaar, it has an incredibly interesting and rich history that connects to the major episodes of the city and of the Netherlands more broadly, and it has a wonderful and important organ inside that we had the luxury of hearing for free one afternoon at one of the many performances that are programmed throughout the year. We got an impromptu tour from Nick, who was an incredibly passionate and erudite historian - he took us on a fantastic journey through the centuries in the church and surrounding area. A true highlight of our trip. I will miss this fantastic building and its definitely worth checking out even if you hate churches as it has a stain glass window that is very recent (from 2022) by artist Fiona Tan, that is spectacular and the biggest in all of Europe. It adds a modern flair to the building while retaining the overall aesthetic.

This was a peaceful and scenic stop after the busy Friday cheese market. The Grote Kerk is a beautiful and historic space. It was great for a quiet break from the crowds. We each had a cup of coffee and shared a slice of apple pie from the coffee bar. The staff was friendly and welcoming. It was especially nice that there was no admission fee and the clean restrooms were free to use. Worth stopping in for the atmosphere and a moment of calm.
Jim L — Google review
Very quiet place to walk around and catch a break from the busy Alkmaar centre. Free toilets and a coffee bar. And because it is also a museum it has a kiosk with souvenirs. Juli 2023 the saffolding was up for repairs on the main stained glass window. Too bad we didn't get to seemit, but we did get to take a €5 climb up the scaffolds to get to the top and inspect the buildings facade and enjoy the views. Lovely people and well organized. I wasn't a big fan of the expanding foam art. But it definitely was special.
Bob V — Google review
A pretty church with an impressive looking organ. It’s in the centre of the old town and could hear it chiming from our Airbnb. Free to visit

I swimm here for years really a long time and i have see the transformation of the new pool. Stuff is very Nice and they are cleaning a lot always. Its a big pool for everybody to go and a café bar so nobody is boring.

This swimmingpool IS so dirty!! I would give No Stars If i could. IT was simply disgusting everywhere Trash.. food laying on the floor. People taking Pictures in the Kids Pool. Absolutely insane that IT is allowed to make Pictures at a Swimmingpool. No words for that.
Katharina — Google review
We went Disco swimming with the kids. The QR system to get entrence with your E-ticket is way to small for all the visitors. Disco swimming is only 2 hours, so standing in line way to long was a waist of our money. Not to mention the woman behind the desk did not help in any way to help all does people juse the check in the wright way. And later we find this pool is on safe. It was not fire proof, way to much people. And the music... I know it is called disco swimming, but the volume was way to hard for any swimming gard to be at any service. Hygiëne is bad and for some reason they closed the outdoor pool 30 min before closing time. So the indoor pool was extra over croudded. Even the icecream we got at the and was overduw. No that I am thinking about it, I did not see any adult working at this swimmingpool. Only adolescents clearly making no attempt to do a safe and clean job. Don’t go there. Please
Patricia S — Google review
From a hygiene point of view this pool is really strange. Inside the pool everyone can walk with dirty shoes, even mountain bikes from time to time drive through where other people walk barefoot. The dirt is turn makes its way into the showers then the pool. Not to mention the fast food/snacks area can also be accessed by dressed and barefoot people. Perfect environment to get your feet not only wet but infected…
Karim H — Google review
I like to swim and this place could do better in many ways. Showers and lockers are shared. No area to take off the shoes so the mess is brought on them straight to the locker rooms. Especially that you walk in through the area where people go barefoot. At least if you want to exercise there is designated space for it.
Silvervend — Google review
I arrived with 3 kids yesterday. A bit of a rainy day and something to do. When we arrived in the lobby from where you can see the pool, I changed my mind. I do not think you could physically fit that many people in the wave pool. Completely irresponsible in times of corona but even without. We passed. Clearly not a management that cares about the well-being and safety of their customers. Beware.
Remco T — Google review
Medium sized swimming pool facility. Offers a 50 meter tournament pool (3.80 meters of depth). A 25 meter pool, a recreation pool, a slide, a small play area for the youngest ones. Offers a personal whirpool experience and has snacks and drinks for sale.

The House With Bullet, also known as Huis met de Kogel in Dutch, is a historic building with a fascinating story. Its name comes from the bullet that has been lodged in its facade since the 17th century during the Siege of Alkmaar in 1573. This exceptional house is located in the old center of Alkmaar and has become a notable part of local history.
It is a nice walk in the centrum of Alkmaar. You can find many beautiful buildings. House with the bullet It is not known when the house was built; it is suspected that it was built shortly before the siege of Alkmaar (1573). It is known that one of the first residents was Jan Arendszoon. He was one of the first hedge preachers of the present-day Netherlands. All his family members were unharmed when the bullet hit his house. According to a legend, the 40-pound bullet went straight through the facade on impact. Inside the building, it would have destroyed a chair on which a daughter of Jan Arentsz was spinning, the spinning wheel and the washtub in which Jan Arentsz' wife was washing.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent national monument, on the Appelsteeg in the heart of Alkmaar. The building is built entirely of wood, except for one wall. Characteristic of the building are the wooden facades that are pulled together in overhang. This made the ground surface smaller, and people had to pay less tax. The house was probably built just before the siege (80 years' war) of Alkmaar (1573). It owes its name to a story about a Spanish cannonball that hit the house during the siege of Alkmaar. A cannonball was later placed in the left corner of the facade on the canal.

De Batavier is a moderately sized play area that caters specifically to children aged 3-12. It may not hold much interest for older kids, but it offers various options such as mini golf and simple attractions. While not all activities are free, the entry fee includes three coins to operate certain attractions. Parents can comfortably supervise their children from the terrace while they freely explore the playground. The owner is friendly and welcoming, making multiple visits by families a common occurrence.
Great attractions, beautiful and very affordable place, ultimate joy for kids and parents.

Lovely place, very welcoming and many fun activities to do!
Kayla T — Google review
While it is nice for the kids, it's super dingy/old and badly maintained.. I think the price for a kid is fair (8/10,-) but the price for adults is quite ridiculous considering there's a café inside. Compared with something like Oud Valkeveen or Linneaushof the little extra price is much more value for money. This is almost similar (but worse condition) to Don Bosco in Weesp which charges 2,-...

I went skating tonight together with my husband , we were really looking forward for it for a long time ,rented skates etc and got on the ice and ...no music . We waited for an hour , still no music ...so boring ! We took our skates out , went to the reception and told the woman who worked there that there was no music and we need to go home now but would like to have tickets for a day when there is music , but she said she can’t do anything about this . Why do you open it for the public then ? We want to have fun and enjoy ourselfs , we are not professional skaters who are just doing speed skating and couldn’t care less if it’s entertaining or not !

Nice place to bring your children to play! Or to have a birthday party for the children. Free parking but you got to pay for entree. Also good tip is to buy the big can of limonade to fill up to smaller cups 8-9 drinks for 5 euro. Other then that just a great place to drain your childrens energy! Haha

I have a child of 1 yr old and 3 yrs old but they are not allowed to get inside because of theyre HAPPY INN CARD is not valid for school vacation. What an inconsiderate for the children. Instead of thinking of market they can get. They sent us out twice. Because of my chilren wanted to play inside and also bad weather I have to pay for almost 20 euro. I said because the managemet to considered really the children.. The manager is nice to the children but because the manager is not around they won’t not consider us. Because of school vacation so its not valid for the other children whose not yet going to the school but they have to pay alot. and the worker said to us”its not monkey town anymore!!!! You pay only entry fee per kid, so it's easy to go with grandparents etc... Obviously the rainy weekend afternoons will get rather busy, but hey, it is a good place to spend time and let the kids run and play. The area is divided for the very small kids (0 to 2). Then a rather nice space for kids from 2 to 4. And the biggest space for kids above 4. Giving them things to do at there respected level. And the small kids are not overrun by the older ones. There are the usual snacks and fingerfood for sale. And enough chairs and tables (also look behind the big climbing rack for more space). Thr exit door is kid proof, so kids cannot wonder off...

Wonderful experience to watch the traditional cheese market. The market is held every friday from the first friday of April to the last friday of September. Start at 10am and second round around 11am. You can learn how they trade the cheese: tasting, weighing, bargaining,... in the traditional way. They also share the cheese for guests to taste. Definitely recommended! (Translated by Google) With the beautiful weather of the past few weeks, we understand that our regular mechanics aren't around. But against all forecasts, it wasn't going to stay dry today. It was perfectly fine for us that we were asked to lend a helping hand and protect Westland from getting wet. With ample parking right in front and a very friendly welcome from one of the creative minds behind Westcapeland, the tone was set. Customers are clearly still valued here. With five people, we found the escape room easy to do, and everyone can have a great time. There's plenty to enjoy, both individually and as a team. It's technically ingenious and makes excellent use of the available space. Our compliments, or perhaps more accurately, "completely golden"! Thanks for the complete experience, and we'll definitely see you in the next room.

Go prepared with noise canceling headphones, powerbank and a good book to read. Be warned, the prices for food and drinks are outrageous. But hey, it's how they make a profit. Beyond that, would recommend it.

Great place and lots of fun for kids all ages. However, we went there with our toddler and played in the toddler section (<4yry) and he got overrun by much older kids to a point where it became a real risk issue. We addressed this situation to the staff but they didn’t really care and let us know that it is not their job to watch the kids. Very disappointing!
Christian R — Google review
Nice and big without being too noisy for adult ears. Much lighter than the other indoor play places because of great overhead lighting. Good assortment of food. It's great!

My son always has a good time here. Looks like they just added a few new features in October. They have these adorable ponys for the kids to ride around and a large Lego building area.

Theater and Filmhouse Dakota is a charming local cultural hub in Den Haag, Netherlands. It offers a variety of activities including courses at the Volksuniversiteit, theater performances, and independent cinema screenings. The venue also provides programs for kids during holidays. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and comfortable seating in the small theater. With free parking available, it's an ideal space to explore cultural programs and enjoy plays or shows for both adults and children.
Really nice place for movies, kids activities, and all around artistic events.

Art cinema Dakota, located in a diverse cultural area in The Hague, is definitely worthwhile visiting, dependent on the kind of movie you prefer, of course. I went there to see Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. It is a small cosy cinema with good sound and a very nice atmosphere.

Zwembad de Hout is not just a swimming pool; it’s a vibrant hub where memorable moments unfold, especially during the swimming diploma ceremonies. Children who have successfully completed their courses are celebrated in style, receiving their diplomas from an enthusiastic lifeguard amidst the summer heat. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making every visit special. With its clean and modern facilities, Zwembad de Hout offers ample space for both leisurely swims and serious lap training.
🌟 5-Star Review for Zwembad De Hout 🌟 I had a fantastic experience at Zwembad De Hout! The facilities are clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is super friendly and helpful, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The pool itself is great for swimmers .there’s enough space for laps, an.The atmosphere is relaxed, and everything feels safe and organized. Whether you’re looking to swim for exercise, fun, or relaxation, this place has it all. I will definitely come back. highly recommended !

(Translated by Google) Discrimination of the highest order, namely sexism. On Monday evenings, men are NOT allowed in there, simply because they're male. Where's men's swimming on Tuesday evenings? That's why I'll never go there again, because being unfairly discriminated against based on gender happens enough in our society already. I don't need some mediocre pool in one of Alkmaar's most crime-ridden neighborhoods for that.
Christian — Google review
(Translated by Google) Small bath and very few changing rooms. The site mentions Monday evening lap swimming for ladies. However, half the pool is occupied for free swimming, which leaves much less room for lap swimming. So the site is incorrect. Temperature water is very pleasant, especially for rheumatic conditions, for example. (Translated by Google) Great pool to play with your child and swim laps yourself. Friendly staff too. A few minor annoyances: The water is dirty; on Sunday afternoons, there's often all sorts of debris on the bottom or floating in the water. The showers and changing rooms are also often not very clean. On Sunday afternoons, there's often a test swim. Ladies change their sons in the men's changing room, and gentlemen in the women's. So, there's no privacy while changing. We've complained about this several times, but the pool doesn't do anything about it. [Edit: This is now communicated to parents during the test swim, so it's much better now than before.]
