In the heart of Troyes, France, stands the Basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes, a remarkable Gothic church dedicated to Saint Urbain, the patron saint of winegrowers. Built in 1261 by Pope Urban IV, a native of Troyes, this basilica features stunning stained glass windows and a 13th-century Last Judgment tympanum. The church also houses the remains of Pope Urban IV.
The Basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes is a Roman Catholic basilica located in the city of Troyes, in the Champagne region of France. It is dedicated to Saint Urban, who was a pope in the 3rd century. The basilica is known for its Gothic architecture and is considered one of the most important religious buildings in Troyes. The construction of the basilica began in the 13th century and continued over several centuries. The building showcases the transition from the Early Gothic style to the Flamboyant Gothic style, characterized by its intricate tracery and ornate decoration. The basilica features a central nave, side aisles, and a grand choir, all adorned with beautiful stained glass windows, sculptures, and intricate stone carvings. One of the notable features of the Basilique Saint-Urbain is its impressive rose window, located on the western facade. This large, circular stained glass window is intricately designed and adds to the overall beauty of the basilica. Inside the basilica, visitors can admire remarkable works of art, including religious paintings, sculptures, and tapestries. The choir stalls, pulpit, and organ are also notable elements of the interior.

Large Gothic church, a reference monument to the radiant Gothic with its elegant and unique style. Construction began in the mid-12th century and was finally completed in the early 20th century. The construction of the building was initiated by Jacques Pantaleon.

Maison de l'Outil is a museum located in a stunning Renaissance-style building that showcases an impressive collection of over 11,000 ancient hand tools and instruments. The tools, each designed for specific tasks with remarkable efficiency, offer a glimpse into the manual skills rendered obsolete by the Industrial Revolution. Visitors can explore the exhibits organized by craft and watch videos demonstrating tool usage. The museum also features beautifully restored selections and offers an English catalogue at the reception.
Thousands of traditional craftsmens' tools, organized by craft, housed in a beautiful old building around a centre courtyard. It is very fun to guess what each of the tools is for. Bonus: the best public restrooms I have ever seen on France (with toilet seats and everything!)
Jennifer L — Google review
Thousands of tools from the 18th century or earlier, all handmade and arranged in ways that bring these ancient professions to life. Exceptional displays of an amazing patrimony. A must see!
Jim R — Google review
Ignore the comments about no English explanations. It really does not matter, you can use your own imagination. Incredible and super interesting. The displays are beautifully done. A gem. At 7 EUR it's well worth a visit.
Zelda S — Google review
A must visit, one of it's kind! If you are interested in history or a DIY enthusiast...this place will not let you diwn. They also have an excellent library with thousands of books on the subject. The building unique with a nice garden entrance.
Rolph P — Google review
Odd museum. Surprised it is rated the "top" destination in Troyes. It really is a museum of hand tools. Fair play to the curators. They have acquired a LOT of them. The exhibits don't have dates but probably they are from 1600-1900. The era when tools would be custom made rather than manufactured on a production line. The museum is very static. 95% of it is large display cases full of, well, tools, categorised by trade or by type. Often they are displayed by hanging in mid-air formations. A treatment my daughter described as "creepy". The cases full of axes and hammers would be a good opening scene for a horror movie. I'm just not sure what the appeal is. I already knew that craftsmen use a lot of specialised tools to do a job, and I recognised most of them. Aside from the sheer quantity and odd displays, nothing really stood out.
David A — Google review
What an amazing place. A lovely building and the tools are all extremely well presented. It’s fascinating to see so many examples of human ingenuity and fun to try and work out what the tools were used for. Most explanations are in French so bring your Google Translate app!
Bill R — Google review
An excellent set of displays of craftsmen's tools, with little change over the centuries. One of our highlights.

(Translated by Google) This flight on July 3, 2022 was a gift from our children for Joël's retirement: we were delighted and loved this journey. I was apprehensive, but the reality was fantastic! I loved it, we had great weather and enjoyed this flight in good company, Mr. KILISKY is very professional! in complete safety, we had a great time! don't hesitate to do it!! (Translated by Google) I was offered tickets after 10 years in my company. I booked 3 or 4 times and the flight was canceled each time. The following year, I was told that the tickets were no longer good. No solution was offered to me. Customer service is deplorable. I allow myself to say this because I am in business myself and I will never treat a customer like that. To flee!!! — Response to the manager's lunar response The voucher was offered to me in the fall of 2022. So I called but was asked to call back in 2023 when the season opened because flights are impossible during the winter. I made appointments 3 times, not without difficulty, during the summer of 2023 and all the flights were canceled. The manager was supposed to come back to me with a proposed date, which never happened. So I naturally got back in touch in 2024 and there: no more response! After multiple cordial exchanges, asking for a solution, the manager spoke to me about general conditions of sale. He talks to me about moving even though I always told him that I come back to the region regularly and that I can organize myself. My parents also live in the area and can take advantage of the flight that was offered to me. What a lack of respect for customers. You can read the comments. I'm not the only one who can't find a solution with this company. -- Your aggressiveness in comments only shows that your customer service is deplorable. I am simply asking for a solution to use the vouchers which were offered to me and which should have been paid to you a little less than €500. I understand the general conditions of sale but people must come first in commerce. Looking forward to a solution from you. THANKS. A fuir !!! Merci.

(Translated by Google) I just want to confirm what several people have said. Multiple flights canceled while other people were flying. A real hassle getting answers. Flight departing from Mesnil, which no longer exists. We barely flew over the lakes. Transportation to the site with the radio on full blast in the vehicle. Breakfast included. Don't expect croissants. No explanation for the violent landing.. a massive fall from the basket. Just yesterday, I met someone who has been waiting 18 months for their flight, which was constantly canceled. I have friends from the Rivière de Corps who never got their flight.. a retirement gift... constantly canceled and the date passed. In short, I do not recommend it at all, even though I took my flight, which I don't remember at all, it was so stressful to have a date. Cathédrale Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul is a remarkable example of champenoise Gothic architecture, showcasing an imposing yet delicate structure adorned with intricate stonework. The cathedral's flamboyant west facade, dating back to the mid-1500s, and its 114-meter-long interior are illuminated by a breathtaking collection of 180 stained-glass windows from the 13th to 17th centuries.
Beautiful cathedral. We were actually surprised to find such a beautiful and rich cathedral in a city like Troyes. But it turns out that the Comte of Champagne liked churches, and Troyes was a rich city throughout a long part of its long history.

(Translated by Google) Park with a good diversity of games; potential, unfortunately wasted by a serious lack of hygiene and safety. Arriving at the opening, the condition of the floor left something to be desired, rubbish was lying between the armchairs in the room for children under three years old, the adults walked through the rooms with their shoes on, while the children were asked to be in good condition. socks... In short... Too bad, it could be great with a little more maintenance and monitoring. Our kids had a great time, but their parents were definitely not relaxed. Ruelle des Chats, also known as Cats Alley, is a charming narrow passageway in Troyes that is famous for its picturesque setting. The name of the alley originates from the narrowness and overhanging upper stories of the houses, which allowed cats to leap from one side to the other. This historic alley features cobblestone streets and timber frame buildings that create a beautiful scene, especially when the sun casts crisp shadows on the facades.
Beautiful narrow street. I recommend passing this street in the evening when it’s more beautiful.

Art Museums
The Modern Art Museum (MAM) is a former bishop's palace that houses an impressive collection of artworks and sculptures by renowned artists such as Degas and Matisse. Following a period of closure for renovation, the museum has undergone a complete redesign to showcase the Pierre and Denise Levy National Collections, featuring pieces from the 1850s realism to the 1950s abstract art.
Beautiful, renovated, and recently re- opened modern art museum with a mainly 20th-century collection of significant works of art. The museum, housed in the ancient episcopal palace across from the Troyes Cathedral, also featured an impressive collection of glass art. The museum, the garden, and its environs are well worth a visit.

Super enjoyable visit to this (unexpected) little gem, in Troyes! Outdoors it offers a serene, pretty garden of plants/shrubs in authentic style of the property with here and there an interesting mix of large sculptures you can view at your leisure while strolling around. Indoors three floors of artworks (paintings/small sculptures and some glasswork) to enjoy from various eras. Including Matisse, Degas and many more. Seriously worth a visit and only costs 8 euros!
Gearoidin N — Google review
The museum is very interesting, explains very well the history of the collection and shows a high quality collection in general. Absolutely worth. I felt it was 5/5 till the moment of exit. Though at the very end the Museum left many people dissatisfied today. The Museum is closing at 17:00, so at 16:50 about 20 visitors were checking the Museum’s shop for souvenirs and memories, some of them have choosen posters, postcards or were checking books, but the museum workers told that the museum cashier desk is already closed. Meaning the shop is still open to see but they cannot take payment’s anymore… Some visitors came from other cities or even other countries (like me) and had to leave empty handed from the shop after choosing products to take away with, even though the museum was open, but there was no chance to pay … I have never seen something like that anywhere in the world before. You should have seen the faces of the people … They were not happy.

Visited on a Sunday, was open till 6. The garden is stunning. The collection of work is a good range. Very quiet.
Faye M — Google review
Superb modern art museum with a high quality collection, elegantly displayed. A few small pieces by the "big names", but more importantly, the calibre of work from the less well-known artists is also very high. Acquired mostly from private collections so some artists (that were a favourite of the original collectors) are very well represented. Also has a collection of African art which I'm sure was popular a century ago but which I am not entirely comfortable with now. Pleasant sculpture garden at the rear, and an exhibition space for temporary shows. Because the 1st floor was still being renovated when I visited (August 2023) the ticket was half price. 3.50 Euro! And the kids went free! A bargain.
David A — Google review
Nice museum with a splendid collection of 19-20 century impressionist. Very highly recommended.
Bart A — Google review
For some reason I cannot quite fathom, this is one of my favourite museums in the world. The other day was my third visit over many years. Although the first floor was not yet open due to renovations, the art and the renovations thus far on the ground and 2nd floors were exceptional. There's something about the quality of the collection and it's setting in this beautiful timbered building that just captures everything I want to find in an art gallery. And the new sculpture garden, even, if not especially, in a light drizzle, was a wanderable joy. (Try translating that Google.) So if you're anywhere in France and you want a really pleasurable modern art gallery experience in a beautiful small town of ancient buildings, canals and countless restaurants, well, this is the place to be.

We were impressed by what we saw, especially in the apothecary where the containers of all kinds of medicines were kept. The history of this place is well explained to us. You have to take your time to see and understand how this place, which served as a hospital for several generations, worked, with the well-being of the patients in mind. We also visited the garden where all the plants present were used to make remedies to treat patients. There were some plaques explaining what the different plants were actually used for.
