It looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale, but it’s been standing since the 12th century! Originally a watchtower, back in the day someone was probably staring out for pirates, while nowadays you’re just waiting for someone to shout “cheese.” And if you think it’s just another tower, those red and white stripes aren’t a fashion statement — they’re traditional colors that helped ships spot the harbor from afar and know they were almost safe.
