Located in Bovey Tracey, the House of Marbles is a captivating destination for those seeking a nostalgic journey through childhood memories. Established in 1973, this venue offers an extensive collection of glass marbles, board games, classic toys, puzzles, and decorative accessories. Visitors can explore unique and timeless pieces while immersing themselves in the enchanting world of traditional playthings.
Absolutely fantastic! FREE parking, FREE to enter and so much to see and learn! Brilliant for people of all ages. Pottery museum, Glass museum and glass blowing demonstrations to enjoy FREE. Hand made marble pick and mix at a brilliant price starting at 5p per marble. Various marble runs throughout the museum are works of art and the giant marble run in the shop is brilliant also. Staff were brilliant and the glass blowers were fascinating to watch and their work is insane!! Coffee shop onsite with some lovely coffee. It was a bit slow getting served but they were busy, so kind of expected. Outdoor games garden for kids of all ages 😂 Toilets and disabled friendly

Such a lovely place to visit. The museum is very interesting and the kids there clearly loved the exhibits. We saw some glass blowing demonstrations and visited the cafe. There's a large play area for the kids to enjoy and the gift shop is HUGE! A great "free" attraction where you can entertain the kids and only spend what you can afford. Highly recommend
Fran W — Google review
Lovely place to visit - a few free museums (with buttons to press to make marbles run) and live glass blowing demos going on to watch. Cafe was really nice with indoor, outdoor and conservatory seating. We had cream tea which was superb. Only complaint is that the tables are a little small. Very busy so advisable to book especially if you're a big group. Gift shop is full of gorgeous stuff but pricey. All in all a great putstop on the way home from Devon.
Sarah T — Google review
An amazing experience full of interesting information, fascinating marble runs and a very large gift shop (parents beware! 😆) there's also a nice outdoor play area and coffee shop too. Well worth the visit, especially on a rainy day during the hols (it does get very busy though!)
Alex W — Google review
Lovely place to visit, especially on a wet day, fun, history and also get to see them glass blowing in the back room too, big shop, fabulous glass artworks Free
Lille C — Google review
We were surprised how good this place was. Visited on a whim as on the map on the way home. The shop had some great childhood memories to purchase and the marble runs where great fun to start and watch. Was surprised that the shop kept going and going. Watching items being made as well was very interesting. Staff very polite and helpful.Highly recommend.

All the times I have been to Devon and I never knew this place was here. Absolutely wonderful place. The shop has literally everything in it. I struggled to get my child out. Loved watching the glass blowing and my little on was extremely excited to go in the play park. He also got his first little bag of marbles which he is very excited to play with. Definitely worth a visit.
Megan W — Google review
Quite a nice place to visit to checkout the marbles, pottery and glass blowing areas of the museum with interesting items on show and to watch with a fair sized area with things to buy (lots of Marbles 😁) over two floors, also a cafe, I enjoyed it and had a little spend (I now have a spare bag of marbles for when I loose mine lol).

Bodies of Water
Dartmoor National Park covers an expansive area of 954 sq km, offering various outdoor activities such as walking, horse riding, and rock climbing. The park also provides seasonal guided tours for visitors. Additionally, the nearby town of Bovey Tracey serves as a hub for arts and crafts, hosting the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the Contemporary Craft Festival.
An unforgettable place where sheep wear leopard print and cows rule the roads. We visited Dartmoor National Park — and it felt like stepping into a slower, older rhythm of life. Rolling hills, heather, wind… and sheep with spotted wool that looked oddly like leopard-print leggings. They wandered freely, completely unfazed by people — like they owned the land. Cows strolled casually down the roads, and drivers patiently waited. It was funny at first, but totally normal here. We loved the ruins of ancient stone structures — covered in moss and filled with silence. Found a small waterfall hidden between rocks — a real gem. If you're looking for a place where nature follows its own rules — this is it. We'll definitely be back.

Did the 13 Tors day hike for Marie Curie Charity. Amazing views and people! Just need to prep gear, snacks, take all your rubhish with you, observe the byelaws and remember to use toilets!
Peter Y — Google review
Spectacular place, so much to see and do, if you like Tors, desolate moors, valleys with trees, reservoirs, lakes, streams, rivers and woods, then this is the place for you. Wonderful to see all the Dartmoor ponies and foals, cattle and sheep roaming free. Loads of walks from easy, to moderate, to hard ones, so many different Tors to see.. Lots of cycling tracks, and areas to go horse riding. The scenery is breathtaking. Plenty of pubs along the route to stop at for food and drink. Places to stop for picnics as so many car parks all over the moors. Stunning little villages around too. Well worth a visit.
Ilona — Google review
Every time I visit England, I always love going back to Dartmoor. I first came here as a child, and it’s just as beautiful now as I remember. The hikes are great, whether you want an easy walk or something more challenging, and the scenery is stunning. Seeing the wild ponies and the wide open moors always makes it feel special. It’s one of those places I never get tired of visiting.
Sarah — Google review
I love this place with all my heart. I’ve walked across the moors countless times, and every time I go, it’s better than the last. Standing on top of Haytor Rocks feels like nature itself is running through my body like lightning.
Billy B — Google review
Wild, slightly windswept, exposed, grassy, treeless, and a lot of cute horses. Reminds me a lot of Forest of Bowland in Lancashire, but of course, with the granite, it is its own beast. The views are expansive, and it shuttles you between a handful of high, bumpy plateaus, then short fast dips into verdant hedgerowed hamlets, then back into windswept plateaus again. Perfect countryside for bike riding, and hopefully the suggested speed limits on the road are adhered to, as the straight roads do seem to encourage wild driving at times. I love the big descent down Pork Hill to Tavistock, and the one down to Exeter - and of course they are for great ascents too, nice and steady. Come to see the cute Dartmoor Ponies too - they’re very short and quite timid, like Shetlands without the attitude problems. but treat them with care, they still need to feel wild, not domesticated.
Gordon D — Google review
Bleak desolate and absolutely stunning! My first visit as a teenager; Dartmoor near Okehampton… it has pulled me back my whole adult life, my favourite place to hike! It has everything. It’s peaceful, interesting and makes you want to keep going back for more. It has a wealth of interesting things to see, old ranges, rock formations and plenty of wildlife. You can hike for days and still be just as blown away by the scenery. At certain times of the year you might even spot a few Army cadets from the local camp dotted around the area. If you’re looking for somewhere to hike, unwind and take a breath this area definitely doesn’t disappoint!
A K — Google review
Dartmoor is a wonderful National Park to visit, just to look or walk. So much history. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep. A great place to cycle, motorcycle, or even drive your car. Remember to bring protective clothing if you plan on walking, as the weather can change dramatically in little time. Enjoy seeing the wild ponies, but remember to never feed them, this encourages them onto the roads and increases the chances of accidents. Please also remember that the speed limit is 40mph, and for good reason. By far the majority of people adhere to the limit, but a few don't.

Waterfalls
Canonteign Falls, nestled in the heart of Devon's Teign Valley within Dartmoor National Park, is a hidden gem boasting both natural and man-made waterfalls. The falls cascade down ancient rock formations into tranquil lakes, creating a spectacular woodland scenery. This Victorian folly is surrounded by private parkland and features a magical fern garden with ancient tree ferns and a unique 11 ft Willow dinosaur.
If you're in the area, this is an absolute must-visit. The attraction is reasonably priced, very well maintained, and packed with fascinating historical facts along a thoughtfully designed one-way route. The walk takes about an hour and involves a fair number of steps and inclines, so it may not be ideal for those with limited mobility. However, for those who can manage it, the journey is incredibly rewarding. There are engaging features along the way, especially for children, making it a fun and educational outing for families. Before you begin, take a moment to relax by the café — the pond views are peaceful and scenic, and if you're lucky, you might even spot some baby ducks! The real highlight, though, is reaching the top, where the views of the waterfalls are simply breathtaking. Photos just can’t capture the scale and beauty of it. I would recommend booking in advance during the busier seasons to guarantee entry. Overall, a wonderfully curated adventure that combines nature, history, and thoughtful design. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful, varied and unexpected treat. This place has something for everyone. The climb up to the top of the falls is quite challenging for older slower limbs but I managed it fine. The view is spectacular. Then, after a good lunch break, we visited the Lower Lakes with artwork, poetry,m a henge and more. Beautiful. Well worth your time.
Nick E — Google review
Lovely to visit especially in the autum. Steep prices and to pay a pound for a map was cheeky. Restaurant also expensive. I do understand that they are an isolated location and have a large maintenance bill however. Would recommend but not for elderly people who cannot walk far if they want to see the waterfalls.
Chris J — Google review
We visited on Monday & what a wonderful experience. Fabulous staff, such a pretty, well cared for environment with beautiful views. lots of shaded woodland, cool ferns & the sound of thundering water, perfect for this scorching weather. The walk is not for cissies! We were so pleased with ourselves for reaching the top 🥳 (66yrs of age) but so worth the effort. We felt we earned our delicious Devon cream tea. I had the savoury, cheese scone - hot from the oven, with cream cheese and an onion marmalade with proper loose leaf tea in a innovative little teapot. My husband had the traditional with jam and cream, equally delicious. Then we strolled round the lovely gift shop before making our way home. Highly recommended. We used a Virgin Experience voucher given to us by our family. Next time, we'll go for the afternoon tea option with sarnies etc, they also do a doggy afternoon tea!! 😀 Amazing place....

What a lovely day to end our last day for a week down here. Fabulous walk up and around the waterfall. Make sure you have good walking footwear 'durable' not accessible by wheelchair or buggy, but some lovely views. Well posted with signs, entertainment for little ones, keep them entertained as well.
Lille C — Google review
Amazing Great experience, Well kept and beautiful walk / hike to the waterfalls. Some steep climbs up pathways and steps Everything clearly displayed and sign posted Lots of rest points if needed. The lower lakes and grounds also worth walking around Lovely cafe for drinks and food Gift shop on way out Toilets located only on lower ground at entrance/exit near to Cafe Great value Would recommend
Victoria G — Google review
Dog Friendly! Lovely staff. Really nice cafe with great choices. Cream tea experience too. Walk is great with lots to see and read along the way up to the falls. Great for kids, once you walk back down you go through a big play park too.
Phoebe H — Google review
Such a wonderful place to spend a day. I visited with my family (ages ranging from 80 - 5), and we all managed and enjoyed the fantastic hike up to the top of the falls. It was probably more challenging than we expected but thoroughly worth the effort. Lots of cute and imaginative things and natural wonders to entertain the children on the walk, and a beautiful view at the top. The staff in the shop and cafe were so friendly and the food was tasty. We went during Oct half term and did the pumpkin trail. There were families walking alpacas during our visit and we got to stroke them and chat to the owners. Highly recommend this gem for all ages.

Becky Falls Ancient Woodland Park is a picturesque destination that has captivated visitors for over a century. Nestled within ancient oakwoods, the park offers enchanting walking paths, boulder scrambling, and serene picnic areas. Families can enjoy encounters with various animals at the petting zoo, including rabbits, guinea pigs, Shetland ponies, and goats. The indoor theatre showcases an array of creatures from tarantulas to rescued birds of prey.
The number 1 activity from my children's perspective, during our visit to Torbay. They loved the trails, they especially loved the waterfalls and the mini zoo is an extra (although I personally felt the macaw needed a friend, it looks very lonely). Dog loved it too, will definitely go back. I know I went as a child, so it's great to have a beautiful spot for generations to keep enjoying.

We visited during the half term school holidays. We arrived at around 11:30am and was on site for around 3 1/2 hours. On arrival you can pay at the gate or can pre book online. Children under 4 go free. There is a short walk to the main entrance where you are welcomed by a picknick area which has a small cafe and girt shop. There is a selection of ice-cream, ice lollies, drinks, chips. There is small selection of animals you can feed such as goats and meerkat. Please be aware that you need to book and pay extra for the meet the keeper meerkat feeding experience. There is also a small building that has snake's, stick insects, cockroaches and a tarantula. There are 3 different trials to walk. The blue one is quick and easy to navigate through the woodlands. However, the red and purple trails are quite steep with different types of terrain. This is not suitable for any type of pushchair or wheelchairs. The ground can be wet and muddy, so decent footwear is advised. If you want to walk all three trails, you will need between 2-3 hours depending on your speed and skill. You can borrow a baby carrier if you require which is free of charge. The cafe and bench area did become quite busy at around 1pm. Overall, the visit was quite nice with very nice views of the water fall and stream that runs down.
Daniel B — Google review
Nice trial with animals in beginning. Nice for kids. You 3 options of trial.10mins, 30mins or 45mins. Anyone can go don't need extra shoes. In entrance you need to pay per adult 13.50 including car park.
Hossangui — Google review
Absolute little gem this one. They have 3 routes to walk around. Blue which is rather easy and for the kids. Then red and purple which show you the water falls. You need good grippy shoes on. We did all routes. And the people route is the hardest but you get some awesome views. Be prepared to have to scramble up some rocky surfaces so you need a bit of fitness for this. You are at times climbing up steep rocky areas but it is so much fun. Red Route a little easier but still some climbs to do. Then you have a great cafe and also animals to look around. Really really fun.
Rob H — Google review
One of the most amazing places to go in England, it is totally untouched beauty. Different trails to follow, nice coffee shop, easy to park. You can easily spend a day in there. I went middle of August and the weather was lovely.
Alexander R — Google review
An absolute beauty! I can strongly recommend it! We walked the basic route first, but our 12yr old daughter and myself were itching to climb some rocks and the waterfall, so took part of the red route too. Was so worth it. I do recommend outdoor trainers though! (I didn't have one as was last minute idea). Nice animals (meercats, macaw, goats, bunnies, chickens, skunk, owl) to see too and kids can feed them (need to purchase voucher). Food, ice cream, drinks in the caffee. The weather was a mix, but plenty of shades too on a sunny day if required. The woodland and the rocks are so tranquil and gives so much joy to young ones and older ones. If you are a bit more fragile, there is a route for that too. It's a must place to visit. 🤗
Katalin H — Google review
Visited not realising it was a pay for attraction, for the walk only I wouldn’t say its worth the entry fee but if you are a family the small zoo, shop and cafe and other activities probably make it worth the entry fee. The walk is good and the falls are interesting. The purple route is tough so take their advice and only do if fit and mobile.
Adrian B — Google review
A great outdoor activity with splendid walk among humongous rocks and a cute little animal encounter with goats, rabbits, skunks( all safe)) , a giant blue macaw. There is a place to park as well as have something to eat.

Immerse yourself in the history of Bovey Tracey at the Bovey Tracey Heritage Centre, where you can explore the town's fascinating past. The center is located in a restored Victorian railway station and offers free admission, making it an accessible attraction for history enthusiasts. Learn about the De Tracey family, who played a significant role in shaping the town's heritage after settling in the area following 1066.
A really interesting place set in the old railway station. Plenty of artifacts of Bovey and it's pottery industry as well as the railway. There is a model of the the railway station in the main building and a model of the Moretenhampstead terminus in the old guards van in the car park. Well worth a visit if in the area, there is a free car park. Check opening times before coming.

Buckland Abbey, a centuries-old abbey with an estate museum and gardens, is nestled among woodlands with marked trails. Founded as a Cistercian monastery in the 13th century, it was acquired by Sir Francis Drake after being bought from King Henry VIII. The property boasts highlights such as Drake's Drum, exquisite modelled ceilings, the Great Barn, fine Elizabethan gardens and woodland walks.
Really loved this National Trust property, probably my favourite, actually. Loved reading about Sir Francis Drake, it was fascinating. The grounds are lovely, very natural, and calm. There are some nice walks too, although we didn't have time to try them. Great cafe and some courtyard outdoor seating. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Julie T — Google review
A Must-Visit National Trust Gem! Buckland Abbey is an absolute treasure — easily one of my favourite National Trust sites to date. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable staff who clearly have a deep passion for the place and its incredible history. The highlight for many will be the original Rembrandt self-portrait, which is genuinely awe-inspiring to see in person. But there’s so much more to enjoy — the architecture of the Abbey itself is stunning, with layers of history that transport you back through the centuries, from its monastic beginnings to its connection with Sir Francis Drake. The tithe barn is an architectural marvel and really sets the tone for how well-preserved and presented the whole site is. Outside, the gardens are immaculate, full of colour and variety — especially the roses and well-labelled plants which were in full bloom during our visit. A real haven for plant lovers. We also stopped for a coffee and slice of cake in the café and were not disappointed — excellent quality and a perfect way to round off the visit. This place has it all: art, history, architecture, beautiful gardens, and a warm welcome. Whether you’re a history buff, art lover, or just looking for a peaceful day out in the countryside, Buckland Abbey is a solid 10/10. Highly recommended.
Jason W — Google review
This National Trust location is lovely and quiet. Car parking is free and it's a short downhill walk to the Abbey. There is disability parking closer to the entrance and toilets at the entrance too. I had no idea Sir Francis Drake had owned this place so it was a really interesting place to see. For those interested in art, there is a genuine self portrait of Rembrandt which will sadly be exhibited elsewhere for a while, luckily we saw this on its last day at Buckland. The story of the Rembrandt is interesting as it was sold to the National Trust from a local family wanting to pay off taxes and the family chose the from their own collection their most dislikes pictures, the Rembrandt being one of them. The family had been completely unaware of the significance of this picture as apparently the husband of the family had bought it without acknowledging it's value to his wife. Many years later the National Trust decided to have the picture checked for authenticity, when clarification eventually arrived it became apparent that this was a genuine self portrait from Rembrandt himself. As I said the staff at this location are very knowledgeable. There are fabulous grounds to walk around and a walled garden which is full of great produce. As with all National Trust locations there is a cafe serving all the regular food and drinks and the staff throughout the site are very knowledgeable and polite. Always a worthwhile visit 👍🏻

A lovely place to visit on a sunny day! Friendly staff everywhere and nice facilities. We had a savoury tea before heading off on the red route for a walk. The blue route is currently closed due to storm damage. It’s just so peaceful and relaxing here and not too far out of Plymouth.
Carolyn M — Google review
What a wonderful place to visit, it is part of the National trust. It is steeped in History with beautiful gardens to compliment the Abbey and its surrounding buildings. There is disabled access in some areas. On site cafe and toilets within. Disable toilets also. Dogs are welcome but not inside the buildings. Service dogs are aloud inside, but always ask any of the super volunteers who can give you more information.
Arthur R — Google review
It was truly wonderful to experience such knowledgeable historical guides. The information they shared was incredibly enriching and painted a vivid picture of the past. The entire experience was made even more stunning by the breathtaking views. I extend my gratitude for such a well-crafted presentation of history. Overall, it was a fantastic day!

Interesting and well stewarded N.T. Attractive buildings and immediate formal gardens, plus extensive estate walks. Link to Sir Francis Drake makes it more special. Good teas. Several interesting popup shops.

Buckland Abbey is without doubt one of this country’s greatest national hero’s home. Sir Francis Drake, global explorer, and legal privateer of Spanish ships and colonies, Admiral of Royal Navy and defender of the nation. This Abbey and Drakes home is a great day out, and excellent for teaching some history of the development of both Great Britain and the early Royal Navy.

Stover Country Park, located on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, spans 114 acres of diverse natural landscapes including heathland, grassland, woodland, a lake and marsh. The park offers various activities for visitors such as exploring the Ted Hughes Poetry Trail which features sixteen poetry posts related to the natural world. Nature enthusiasts can also take advantage of the Nature Interpretation Centre with live streaming cameras showcasing local flora and fauna.
What an absolutely lovely country park! Lovely flat access, clean and well maintained, beautiful scenery and wildlife. We went later on one evening while on holiday and saw the bats! They are amazing! Thank you, highly recommend!

Love this place. Always see lots of wildlife and walkways are well maintained. The resent refurbishment of the visitor centre is great & the coffee van serves good coffee & snacks. Would be nice to have an indoor coffee shop though as when the weather isn't great it's nice to be able to stay dry whilst enjoying a drink.
Emma G — Google review
Spent a couple of hours walking round the woodland, lake and many ponds. More fun if you walk off the gravel paths and go through the narrow woodland tracks. It's much larger than you first think, over 114 acres, and lots of pine trees and mixed deciduous. Home to many water birds and the occasional Mandarin duck. Originally the estate and Manor House was the home of the Seymour family who were Dukes of Somerset. In 1932 the house was converted into a girls school and is co-educational today. Well worth spending time walking around, surrounded by Devon tranquility.
Robin P — Google review
Stover looking a little shabby in these photos as they undergo dredging works to clean the lake and replant native trees. Still a lovely place to visit. Pop into the visitor centre to access the toilets and find out more about the park and area. Take along some food to feed the birds and squirrels. There's a Ted Hughes poetry trail with wood carved animals to find. The path around the lake is level access and suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. There's an accessible viewing platform and if you're lucky you might spot a resident woodpecker. The coffee stall is good and offers plant milks, although they've recently changed cake supplier so their vegan options are sparse. Plenty of spots to have a picnic or rest if legs are tired and loads of photo opportunities including a wooden horse and carriage. Remember to pay for parking (approx £2.50 for 2hours). Trago is 5 minutes down the road offering a huge department store, restaurant, street food, builders merchant, rides for kids and adults, indoor play area and animal enclosures.
Venetia M — Google review
Great place for a walk around the lake. If you look closely you can spot all types of birds. It's a great place to bring the kids to engage in nature.
Kerry G — Google review
Perfect for everyone and so much to see. Very good paths around the lake area, pushchairs, mobility scooters and similar should all be fine, it was dry today so not sure what they would be like when raining. Plenty for kids to see and do as well. We explored the land beyond the lake following the Heritage Trail, such a mix of woodland, pine woods, fields, country lanes, canal everything! The Canadian WW1 memorial is well worth stopping at if you pass it, so tastefully done and a fascinating story. The pine woods are also worth a look, they are like something out of a movie set, the colours make it look like another planet ( well we thought so 🙂) Some good spots for dogs and kids to paddle in that are well away from the lake so the wildlife isn't disturbed. There is so much wildlife to see, we even saw a Mandarin duck which we've never seen before and didn't realise they were now in the UK! The best bit was waiting for us at the end - Fuelled By Caffeine! So many fab drinks, cakes, traybakes and similar. We opted for ice cream tubs which were local (Plymouth) and lush with the nice touch of a flake to go with them. Dog ice cream too, always a winner! Plenty of parking, could imagine it being a bit tricky sometimes if it's very busy but really well laid out and well priced, you can pay by app (Ringo) or contactless. There are signs about phone signal but we had no problem and the rangers office is nearby if you get stuck.

Lovely sunny 🌞 morning, arrived at the park before 7am our favourite time to be there as lovely and quiet. To be honest now is not the best time to visit as there's a lot of work going on restoring the lake and woodlands so not as pretty as usual and I think a lot of the wildlife have retreated away from the main lake to quieter and more secluded parts of the park but it was still a lovely walk and very interesting to see what was talking place.

Historical landmark
Haytor Rocks is a prominent granite tor standing at 1,499 ft. above Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It offers unique views of South Devon's Teignbridge coastline and the moorland. Visitors can explore the area's wildlife, ancient heritage, and history by visiting nearby visitor centers. The location also provides great picnic spots with three large car parks nearby and miles of flat moorland for relaxation or a climb to the top for a scenic picnic experience.
Wonderful experience! Parked car at Dartmoor Information Centre; took an all-day pass at £5.60, but only needed a maximum 3-hour ticket. It's a different experience than normal hiking, especially climbing the rock—it was very windy. Check your weather forecast before starting your trek.
Alen T — Google review
We love this place. The views from the yol are spectacular on a clear day. The climb is relatively easy because there are steps cut into the rock. Great car park and an easy climb. Ice creams and a toilet plus Visitor centre close by too.
William G — Google review
Experienced the changing weather conditions on The Moors in our visit, rain, fog, wind and sunshine, but when the sun shone the views were amazing. Saw sheep and cows grazing in the open. The rocks are spectacular and a good part of a Moors hike
Roland S — Google review
Well worth a visit Make sure to take a warm coat as even on a sunny day it can be a bit blustery at the top. Sturdy shoes with good grip on the soles also a good idea. The view from the top makes it worth the climb
Anne-Maria S — Google review
Great place to walk. Some may not be able to walk to it as it can be a tad steep for little one or those who struggle to walk. There are horses and cows on the field. It’s not a far walk from the car park which is free parking until 10am. I wouldn’t recommend climbing the rocks unless you’re confident and it’s dry.
Mel C — Google review
Impressive in itself and with stunning views out to the sea. Windy! One of the better gift shops at such sites. Some parking sites require payment, some don't.
K N — Google review
Beautiful iconic symbol of Dartmoor giving stunning views of the Moorland and the Devon countryside. Haytor rocks are truly timeless and offer a dramatic backdrop to an excursion on foot or by car. Popular spot for observing the night sky due to the lack of light poloution, especially for photogaphing lunar eclipses and the occasional glimpse of the aurora borealis or noctilucent clouds.

Lovely place, you can climb the rocks and see a spectacular view. Just dont camp up there as your tent might blow away!

Nestled in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve is a treasure trove for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike. As England's first National Nature Reserve, it encompasses stunning landscapes including parts of the Bovey Valley, Trendlebere Down, and Yarner Wood. Spanning an impressive 368 square miles of enchanting moorland, this reserve offers visitors a chance to explore its ancient woodlands and diverse ecosystems.
Superb, tranquil environment with a sense of the medieval about it. Varied scenery from ancient woodland, riverside, and heathland complete with ponies.

Beautiful scenery! Lovely walk with the dog! A few steep hills, so make sure you are able to manage it!
Anna O — Google review
Stopped to walk the dog and was a great find. Main drawback is the provided walk around the woods is poorly described and not marked. The place is full of Tiktok markers that are not referenced? I'll give the benefit of doubt and hope this is in the process of change
Daren B — Google review
What a great place to walk. Makes you feel like your in the Jungle with all the ferns growing everywhere. The stream running through was awesome.
Mark — Google review
There's a small car park here (£3 for all day) and a public toilet. Maps available or good phone signal to just use GPS. Wonderful ancient woodland and we had a great family walk spotting so many different types of fungi (The Seek app is brilliant for spotting and naming). Lots of gravel tracks, most of which would be a bit rough and too steep for a child's pushchair or wheelchair. Well worth a visit if you prefer to be away from the crowds and get out in the fresh air.

Bradley is a charming 1400s manor house located in the Bradley Estate on the outskirts of Newton Abbot. The estate covers 100 acres of picturesque landscapes including hay meadows, orchards, hedgerows, and woodlands. Visitors can explore the well-preserved medieval touches within the house and enjoy guided tours led by knowledgeable volunteers. The peaceful setting offers lovely walks through wooded valleys, making it a favorite among National Trust properties in the area.
Great place. Need to book in advance though, plus its only open a few times a year. There isn't any carparking nor toilets but there is a small public free carpark at the end of the drive/park and the park i noticed had a cafe and toilets. The house still has the owner living there and she give a small talk about the house. It was great. You go around in a guided tour group of 6.
Andrew M — Google review
Definitely a step back in time. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history and the families that had lived there. They also provided a fold up seat to take around for my mother who is 92.
Julie M — Google review
This is not a grand stately home, but rather the home of the local landowner. It's undergone extension and "renovation" over the years, but it's still relatively easy to see the main buildings from the 1400s and to imagine how they looked then.
Andrew C — Google review
Beautiful old national trust house. Lovely gardens and interesting rooms to explore. Lovely honey made on site
Carole D — Google review
We live locally but have never before visited this wonderful old house. Greeted by two lovely volunteers and shown around by subsequent volunteers, the rooms are fascinating and exhibit decor going back over six hundred years. The atmosphere, furniture and decor are well worth seeing. Lovely old property and gardens... will visit again.
Michael — Google review
A lovely little property just right for a quiet stroll around leafy wooded areas and a very interesting house full of unusual and unique rooms. The original banqueting hall was my favourite room but to think people still live here it's live a living piece of history. Only open on certain days of the week and no aminities but well worth a visit. As usual the staff were all very welcoming and knowledgeable about there rooms.
Susan C — Google review
My favourite Nationally Trust house in this area. It's small and ancient, mid-fifteenth century, but still lived in, and has a great feeling of continuity. Peaceful setting with lovely walks through the wooded valley, dogs welcome in the grounds. Although you are right on the edge of Newton Abbot it feels beautifully secluded. I recommend looking out for the roof bosses in the Chapel, the Tudor screen in the Great Hall, the William Morris curtains, the amazing wall paintings in the Fleur de Lys room, as well as some lovely 20th-century ceramics and arts-and-crafts furniture by Ernest Gimson and the Barnsleys. And I thoroughly recommend the Bradley honey, available to buy at the entrance, cash only.
Lindsey S — Google review
True, it's small, but there are some fascinating touches, especially if you bother to interact with the volunteers. The worst thing is how hard it is to find, as the city won't let them sign it. After driving past out of town a few miles, asking directions and turning around, we finally found the neighboring park, parked there and just walked over.

Room Escape Games
If you're looking for an exhilarating adventure, look no further than "Escape The Game." Nestled in a vibrant area filled with attractions like the Dartmoor Bookshop and the River Dart Country Park, this escape room experience is perfect for families and friends alike. I recently had my first taste of escape rooms here, booking two different challenges—'Escape the Bell' and 'Party House'—for a group of 12.
Leanne was able to accomodate us at short notice for our 16 year olds birthday. We had never done an escape room before and honestly this was a great first time experience, so reasonably priced and so much thought and effort goes into these rooms! We had a great time, although picked the hardest room, Leanne was on hand to help with clues and we managed to escape! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back to try a different game!
Sowf K — Google review
Would highly recommend. First time doing escape rooms. Really easy to book, left a phone message and Leanne was very quick to call back. Booked 2 different rooms 'escape the bell' and 'party house' for a family of 12. (3 kids and 9 adults) We split into two teams, 6 in each room and raced to see who could get out first. We all had a great time, working together as a team and lots of fun and laughter. Leanne is a great host, warm and friendly and up for a laugh... and helps you along if you get stuck with any clues, making for a great and positive experience. Of course, the kids were extra delighted when they found out that had escaped their room first! Was great to see how chuffed they were and everyone had such a good time they said they would definitely be up for playing again. Thank you Leanne!
Marie-claire P — Google review
My girlfriend and I did the house party room today. The room was set up well, exactly as you’d expect with the theme and story. Puzzles worked well and were fun. Leanne was a lovely host who had obviously put a lot of thought and hard work into the room. Would recommend :)
Peter B — Google review
Me and my friends went here a few days ago now for my birthday celebration we played the bad fellas escape room. We all had an amazing experience and enjoyed ourselves. We really loved the story however, our only critiques are that there were a lot of math based puzzles and that the room we were in doubled as the party room so we wasted some of our 60 minuets working on locks that weren't for the room we were doing. We had a lot of help during the puzzles which we didn't always need. We feel that if there was less math problems and we knew some of the locks weren't needed for the room we were doing and we were given clues rather then being told the answers then we would have had more fun. Overall we really loved the story and had tons of fun.

We had a lovely time here. We were a bit frazzled when we arrived because of traffic, but the lady who greeted us was super friendly and welcoming. She also provided help and guidance during the game - and allowed us to bring our dog. A great activity.

Amazing experience , loved the saved by the bell theme . Bought back memories from my childhood! Our little girl did this with us as her first escape room . Leanne was very helpful throughout giving us clues if we needed them. Great experience and will be back next year when we return on holiday .

Nestled in the charming town of Bovey Tracey, the Bovey Tracey Swimming Pool offers a delightful outdoor swimming experience from May to September. This open-air heated pool measures 25m x 9m and is complemented by a smaller toddler pool, perfect for little ones. The facility boasts changing rooms, baby-changing amenities, and accessible options for all visitors.
What an absolute beauty of an outdoor pool! Heated to a tropical 28° even though the air temperature was around 3° in early January - what bliss! Such a jolly welcome to the pool by the staff/volunteers. Traditional 'basket' facilities for your belongings, impeccably clean and heated male and female changing rooms with good showers and toilets. But the star of the show is the pool. We booked in advance via the website for a lane swim - one half of the 25m pool is given over to the slow lane and the other half divided into medium and fast lanes. Not overcrowded, well organised, and lifeguards were attentive and seemed to know many of the regulars by name. Bovey should be rightly proud of this gem of a pool - if you're in the area this is a lido not to miss ☺️

Really nice outdoor swimming pool on the doorstep of your holiday destination! Reasonably priced, my mum and I came here on Wednesday (04/06/25) and we both enjoyed our swim 🏊🏻‍♀️ Both female lifeguards were lovely! We really enjoyed our swim🏊🏻‍♀️😎 I loved the mosaic art that's around the pool too! 🧜🏻‍♀️

A Wonderful Outdoor Pool Experience! We visited Bovey Tracey swimming pool to celebrate the New Year, and it was such a memorable experience! The pool is outdoor and heated, which made it perfect despite the chilly weather. The water was lovely, and even our two young kids had a fantastic time—we ended up spending an hour there. The pool was quite busy for this time of year, which speaks to how popular it is, but the atmosphere was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everything was spotless, from the pool itself to the continuously cleaned changing rooms. A great place for families, and we can’t wait to visit again!

Amazing pool. Fantastic team on site. Facilities are clean and tidy. The booking online system is easy to use. The pool was warm, even when it’s cold out and raining. Will definitely be booking in again.

Had a great swim and play session at Bovey Tracey pool, taking my grandchildren ages 9 and 7. Clean and tidy pool and facilities. The pool was warm, which was a relief for me as I detest cold water, and it's a barrier to going to an outdoor pool. Staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel very welcome. It was good to have lifeguards overseeing and giving advice. Easy to park in road outside and the location is quiet and relaxing.
