Museums
Krannert Art Museum, located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, is a vibrant hub for contemporary international arts. It boasts a permanent collection of over 10,000 works dating back to 4 BC, showcasing diverse cultures and artistic expressions. The museum features changing exhibits in various media and offers free entry. With its rich array of art from different periods and regions, it's a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.
We recently visited this museum, which focuses primarily on contemporary art, and had a wonderful experience despite some galleries from the permanent collection being closed for renovations. The temporary exhibitions and available galleries more than made up for it and we spent about one hour enjoying the art. The collection of African artifacts, particularly the masks, was fascinating and helped us gain a deeper understanding of their cultural significance. We also appreciated the opportunity to view a rare, smaller Rothko and admired the works of Chilean artist Roberto Matta, whose pieces added a unique perspective to the museum’s offerings. One highlight was how clearly the museum labeled its new acquisitions. This provided valuable insights into emerging trends and artists shaping the contemporary art landscape. We were especially interested in the art for social change exhibition and seeing art from black artists. The section on lesbian perspectives stood out as intriguing and educational, offering a window into diverse experiences. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and maps and brochures were available to guide us through the exhibits. Admission is free, with donations encouraged. Public parking is available in front of the museum with special permit, though not required during the weekends. The museum also has water fountains and comfortable, clean restrooms. We highly recommend this museum and hope to come back soon!!

Absolutely amazing! This art museum was well put together and you could see the care that the team puts in to the preservation of the collections. There was a very cool Mediterranean exhibit downstairs, but overall, all of the artwork was interesting. A special shoutout to the staff all who were helpful and friendly. We were visiting from out of the state and they helped us to navigate some logistics.

Krannert Art Museum is a fantastic place to visit, and it's worth checking their opening hours before you go. The guides there are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, which adds to the overall experience. The museum itself is quite spacious, with numerous lounge rooms to explore. During our visit, we had a great time completing a scavenger hunt at the museum, although the real reward was immersing ourselves in the rich history it offers. My favorite sections were the fine Greek, Egyptian, and Renaissance art; they truly captured my heart! When you're there, make sure to read the captions accompanying the artworks, as they provide valuable insights into the portraits and enhance your understanding and appreciation of them. It is free to get in, however it’s worth donating to. ☺️
Angelena S — Google review
This museum is a hidden gem in Champaign. 🎨 From the moment you walk in, you're embraced by a calm and creative atmosphere. The exhibits are super diverse, ranging from contemporary art to pieces from distant cultures. Plus, the admission is free, making it even more accessible. Perfect for a cultural outing with friends or a relaxed solo visit.
Alonso M — Google review
A jewel of a little museum. It is a nice way to spend a couple of hours looking at a variety of art. I last visited this museum in the 70's and it greatly influenced my love for art today.
Lynda — Google review
DO NOT visit the museum. It was a waste of my time. There is no information anywhere to know that there are only TWO galleries open. Everything else is closed for "renovations". Again, I was not aware of this information till I had gotten there. It is not stated on the website at all. I drove from Chicago to Champaign thinking I would have access to a full museum. On top of that, I had to pay for parking which was ridiculously complicated. The meters do not take coins, you have to download a third party app just to pay. Very annoying. It felt cramped and uncomfortable. The only galleries that are open are very small. When I visited, there were probably 6 other people and that was enough to overstimulate me. On top of that, you have the security guards following you. Do not recommend going until the whole museum is open.
Brandon G — Google review
virtually everything a person with a brain/some taste might want to see is off limits until early next year. not worth a visit until early 2025 edit: it's almost August (i.e., summer) so now there's signs up saying most of it'll be open again... in the summer... which is right now. they were building something (drilling/hammering) during open hours while I visited, making it very difficult to contemplate the minimal art available.
M — Google review
There's no free parking here, and it costs $1.70 an hour, how greedy of the university. Edit: You also have to pay via third party, the parking meters themselves don't actually function. You don't simply put coins into a thing, you have to download an app, create an account, register your vehicle, and pay an additional fee to the third party, just to visit this museum without your car being towed. Second edit: The app you have to use to pay for the overpriced parking doesn't even accept Google Pay, or PayPal, or maybe even credit cards? Been attempting to get it to work for 20 minutes, but I guess I'm just going to leave. Very disappointing, because obviously parking should never have cost money here to begin with.

Park
Crystal Lake Park in Urbana is a stunning waterside park that offers a variety of activities for visitors. The park features seasonal boat rentals, a fishing pier, picnic sites, and ball fields. It is situated on the banks of a beautiful serpentine lake with opportunities for fishing and boating. Additionally, the park includes attractions such as the Anita Purves Nature Center, mature urban forest, a labyrinth, a Lake House, pavilions, and a children's playground.
I almost go to this place everyday or at least every week as always because I live near by. It is a great place to killing time or just break from my busy time of remote work, to get a fresh air. Walking around this place is my favorite. Also love the Busey Wood trail. Such a blessing for me to live near this place. The playground also clean and our son loves play around there.
Winda S — Google review
Usually quiet and peaceful. Never over crowded. You can rent paddle boats. There's plenty of open space for picnics. Shaded areas with trees. Gease roam around, they stick to the water for the most part. It's near public roads, so you will hear city transitate sounds and because it's so close to the hospital, you will see and hear helicopters and other military aircrafts.
Susana P — Google review
Crystal Lake Park has it all. There is a great nature center with an accessible boardwalk hiking trail through the woods, playground, paddle boat and canoe rentals, plenty of walking paths all over the expansive park grounds, as well as a nice aquatic center with 2 body slides, tube slide, splash rock wall, and kiddie area. There is more than enough fun to keep a family busy for a whole day if not an entire weekend. The grounds are well kept, walking trails are nicely maintained, and plentiful nature to be found everywhere.
Andrew H — Google review
Unbelievable, but I have now enjoyed this park for three-quarters of a century. From playing after childhood pediatrician visits at the old Carle Hospital to family and church picnics, riding my bike with friends to the swimming pool, going to County Fairs, stock car races, and even meeting for the final session of one of my University speech classes, this park has been a marvelous green oasis, a respite from the hubbub of campus and city life. Long may it prosper.
Joel S — Google review
It was a beautiful day to visit the park! Me and bestie walked to a fishing pier and I sat down and just enjoyed the view of fall and the atmosphere of it all.
Sarah S — Google review
Staff was nice, my son and his friend enjoyed all the different activities. Just wish there was more than just vending machines to eat when trying to spend as much time there as possible. Didn't want to leave and come back.
Jo L — Google review
Beautiful park. I understand they have fishing and boating in the summer but I haven't tried it. Periodically events are held here as well.
Dwight G — Google review
Decent facility for the area. Clean and has plenty of staff to keep an eye on all of the kids swimming. The water park is surrounded by a butterfly garden which is a nice touch.

The State Farm Center is a well-known venue that has hosted Fighting Illini basketball games, concerts, and theater productions for many years. Recently remodeled with modern upgrades, it offers rooms that can be rented for a more secluded experience while still enjoying fantastic views. The staff are friendly and helpful, making entry easy even during virus protocols. Purdue pulled off an incredible win in 2OT during the first game at this stadium. Despite the changes, many still refer to it as the Assembly Hall.
Illini College defeated Michigan. This football stadium is fantastic, beautiful design and the tailgating area is great for before and after game parties. Lineman Offense JC Davis is our nephew. He and his teammates played an exciting game. The visual graphics of the stadium kept the audience reved up and made the whole afternoon perfect.

The show was sweet. But we about froze outside waiting to get in. And if you read my texas roadhouse, I bet you can't guess who I seen walking down the hill towards the line. Ol Bubba. Still no coat, just shirt and overalls. Walking like he was on a mission. Later on, during the show, I looked over and there he went again, up the stairs. I was starting to wonder if he was following me. For him to be such a big dude, he was all over the place. But the show was great. I think I'll go back and watch a game next season.
Dustin B — Google review
The final REO Speedwagon concert was awesome. The process from parking to entering to scanning and so on went smoothly.

We attended a wrestling event here through the University of Illinois' Fighting Illini Wrestling Team. We had such a great experience. From the security at the front and throughout the building, to the staff at the food center. The restrooms were clean too. Plenty of parking and very easy to navigate!
Rogerian S — Google review
We were here for UICU graduation. Great place for an event. They were well organized and very efficient in getting people out easily and safely when the graduation ceremony was over.
LarryandS J — Google review
Went to U of I graduation. The policy of no purses/bags in the Assembly Hall (because that is the building's real name) for a graduation is idiotic and an example of the mindless bureaucracy that guides most universities.
Scott B — Google review
First time sitting so close to the court but I recommend experiencing it at least once.

The Spurlock Museum, also known as the Clarice V. Spurlock Museum, is an ethnographic museum located at the University of Illinois. Established in 1911, it houses a vast collection of over 51,000 artifacts from various cultural heritages and geographic regions. The museum's exhibits showcase ancient Egyptian art, Mediterranean works, modern African art, East Asian artifacts, European pieces, Mesopotamian objects, and items from the Americas.
This museum is absolutely amazing! We explored all the galleries with fascinating art from all over the world, but were excited to see those from Ancient Mediterranean and the Americas. It was outstanding. The museum offers a wealth of history and culture. We enjoyed learning about Latin American art, including fascinating pieces from Bolivia (with a surprise of a sensory experience!). The Native American art displays were equally impressive, showcasing the richness and depth of their traditions. A standout feature of the museum was the interactive screens, which provided detailed insights into rare objects, such as a fragment of the letter of James from the New Testament. We also loved listening to music created with ancient versions of violins and other string instruments, which added an immersive element to our visit. Admission is free, and parking on the street is free on weekends. There are puffs and cushions in the galleries to have a moment of gentle rest. The facilities were spotless, and I greatly appreciated the availability of sanitary pads in the restrooms—a thoughtful touch. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. We deeply enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this museum for anyone interested in history, culture, and art!
Yessie H — Google review
Nice and tidy museum at UIUC. There's no section on India in Asia section, which is very surprising. Maybe the Museum should get some funding to add an India specific section and that would be nice.
Shashank B — Google review
A really great place to visit if you are at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. They have different sections according to continent and a great collection. Place is free for anyone.
Shafiqul S — Google review
Smaller, but splendid, museum with LOTS of varying exhibits, artifacts, and traditional ethnic garments of various cultures from around the world. In addition to special exhibits, the museum houses 9 permanent exhibits, They are organized by geography and cover hundreds, if not thousands, of years of human history from North, Central, and South America and the Ancient Mediterranean. On the 2nd floor are East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, Ancient Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt.
Y T — Google review
Spent about 30 minutes here, wish I’d had more time! It’s full of unique items and history. Free to enter, although donations and encouraged. I went on a Saturday afternoon, right before closing, and it was almost completely empty and very quiet! Exhibits are (mostly) based on regions of the world. I especially appreciated the effort of transparency with where the artifacts were acquired, although I’m not sure if there’s been any pressures or requests for returning items.
Aditi N — Google review
For a decent sized city, this museum is pretty large. They have activities you can do for fun, while also teaching you about the artifacts and cultures. They have different exhibits and their statues are really cool.
Lydia Z — Google review
This was a great little museum. If it's free it's for me! My oldest son loved the mummy they had on display. They showed pictures too of what they thought the mummy looked like if he/she was still alive. Many of the items they had on display were replicas, but just as fun to look at. I wouldn't say a great place for young children. Easy to sound an hour here.
Will — Google review
Not bad at all! Only 5% of their collections (artifacts, sculptures etc) are on display due to the space crisis. What a shame! There are no entry fees, however, it’s my request to everyone to donate as much as you can so that they can keep up the good work for years to come.

The William M. Staerkel Planetarium, the second largest in Illinois, offers an immersive experience for star enthusiasts. With its advanced technology and full dome viewing platform, visitors can get lost in the stars. Every Friday night, guests can observe the real-time night sky while listening to captivating stories about constellations and planets. Located at Parkland College in Champaign, this planetarium is not just for students; it welcomes all who are eager to enjoy its academic offerings.
Who knew there is a planetarium in Champaign? I didn't. Not only that, it's the second largest in illinois after Adler in Chicago, and I checked there is a few other in Illinois. It was a bit hard to get there because it's a curvy and long road after exiting Bradley Ave. Great display of photos and objects outside of the theater. We watched a short documentary. The lady that introduced us to the show was fun and knowledgeable, I learned a lot about stars.
Carollia — Google review
Nice planetarium. Second largest in illinois next to Adler in Chicago. Good, short shows. Reasonable price. Booking online doesn't help skip a wait in line. Would be nice if the seats leaned back. Overall, worth the experience. Kids ages 14 to 2 all enjoyed it.
Lacey F — Google review
This is an amazing hidden gem to go to with your kids in the Champaign area! If your child is into space and learning the planetarium will be right up their ally. The amazing friendly and knowledgeable staff will show you the amazing night sky's and wish you off to far away planets on the amazing domed theater screen. The movies and programs that we have been to so far been both captivating and educational for my son. They can do large party's like scouts,4H, school clubs, ect. They also have it where you can rent the place for birthday parties. You have to contact them via the parkland college website for those options.
Roger P — Google review
I visited this place fairly recently, and though the stories were good, it felt like they had been told countless times before. The show I attended was meant for younger audiences, but the display was still enjoyable. I had also visited this place a long time ago during a school field trip, and it seemed like they were still using the same old projector from back then (decades ago). The planetarium experience wasn't fully immersive due to dark or light spots caused by the aging projector. While I understand that replacing the projector can be costly, considering the location, it's probably time for an update. The photos displayed here were truly impressive! There's something special about seeing things in person rather than just in pictures. For children, this place can be incredibly educational and engaging.
Angelena S — Google review
Very fun place to visit on a rainy day. Great dome shows for all ages. Informative and staff is funny and interactive.
Jordan O — Google review
Lots of great memories here! From going to shows as a kid, to astronomy classes in college and now taking my own kids. The latest updates to digital technology make for an even more amazing show but I still miss Carl. Relaxing, educational, fun for the whole family, always worth a visit.
Jacob P — Google review
Santa's Secret Star was a captivating and enjoyable show. Our very chatty 9 year old was entranced and rapt with attention throughout. Miss Tania did a wonderful job of showing us the local stars and planets before we left. We will definitely be back.
Jason M — Google review
The Staerkel Planetarium is a hidden gem in the Champaign area. The Good: The planetarium theater itself was beautiful. Located on the Parkland College campus, the planetarium's state-of-the-art digital projection system, operated by the (nicest) planetarium director, Dave Leake, proved to be breathtaking. His storytelling held my son's attention the entire time - and I'm sure seeing Santa up in the sky didn't hurt either! The Bad: At the time of our visit, campus construction blocked the front entrance of the planetarium, making it a bit difficult to navigate our way inside. Overall: We loved the kid-friendly show at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium, and would certainly return for another show!

The cacaphonies will caress your very bones!! The halls are breathtaking!! the director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra once whispered that the acoustics here were superior to their hometown hall! There's always local & university orchestras doing STUNNING performances (once heard a violin rocket launch). They do beautiful dances for people with Parkinson's and also occasionally have a behemoth of their instrument show up to bedazzled! Check the website!

Just saw Josh Johnson live! Seeing an outstanding performer on stage vs. on YouTube is like seeing a painting in a museum vs. watching the artist create a masterpiece right before your eyes. This holds true of this young standup comic, who is well on the way of joining comedy legends Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Flip Wilson, and Eddie Murphy. All groundbreaking comedians in their own right, all having broken barriers for up and coming artists.
Lance S — Google review
World class performances! Fantastic architecture with world class auditoriums providing comfort as well as excellent audience experience. Tickets are affordable and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Free performances are very popular and provide a great way for people to enjoy themselves at no cost. This is a local treasure! I wish more folks from the larger community would take an opportunity to experience it.

Huge space. The venue is pretty cool! There is free parking on the surrounding streets after 6pm. It's definitely a college town with lots of restaurants around that serve a variety of foods but don't have a lot of atmosphere. The Krannert theater itself is really big. Lots of levels and side balcony seating. It felt clean and bright, and very accessible. There is odd seating behind the stage. We enjoyed a good show, though it was a late start due to a security check they had everyone go through. One of the volunteers told me that they hadn't done security like that before so they had misjudged the start time. I trust they will figure that out.
Simon L — Google review
Great! I'm an amateur musician, and I really enjoy piano music. I went to Krannert several times, and I was satisfied with all the performances every time.

This place is an absolute gem and one of the many reasons CU is lucky to have yhe university! I love to come here and escape into nature. I don't have a car and getting away from the noise of cars is hard even at Crystal Lake, but here? I can't hear cars in the gardens.

Serendipitous! Idyllic! Take a class here, stroll by after a grueling day, bring a date, come by to clean and definitely climb a tree:) It also doubles as a rather lovely stargazing venue I've caught a naked-eye glimpse of comet ATLAS here!! Sakura in the spring and beautiful autumnal foliage in the fall and its all taken care of by lovely people (so don't you dare litter). If you're particularly fortunate, keep an eye out for the koi fish and turtles!

A great park to spend the day, with free access to well-kept tennis and pickleball courts.

We enjoy this park for the playground and the splash pad. It's mostly a clean park. It attracts a lot of people so my kids always have someone to play with. I wish there was more parent seating next to splash pad.
Deanna P — Google review
Best park in town. The very best part is non-restrictive hours! Actually open long enough that working people can enjoy it. Not sure how a park "closes" but anyway. Perfect running loop. Jot down the hill to Mattis Park and back for a 5k. Splash pad. Picnics. Pickleball, tennis and volleyball. Water fountains. Art. It's all good here.
Derrick ( — Google review
Most popular park in Champaign for good reason. Splash pad and playground are perfect for kids. There is also pickleball, tennis, and volleyball court, as well as plenty of shelters to have parties. There is a walking path that goes around the perimeter. My only complaint is how difficult it is to get to via walk/bike from the neighborhood across Kirby.
Joe K — Google review
Really great, it has a public splash pad that is free and open to the public in the summer months for cooling off. It has a tennis court too, slides and climbing apparatus etc
Sanjay R — Google review
Splash pad is hugh and awesome. Playground is super fun. Watched my kids run from the pad to the playground all day long. We will be back.

West Side Park is a beloved outdoor destination in Downtown Champaign, offering a picturesque setting with walkways, a fountain, and a gazebo. The park features beautiful landscaping and a play area for children of all ages. Its central location makes it convenient for visitors to explore nearby shops and restaurants. Established in 1859 as the city's first park, West Side Park continues to attract residents and tourists with its diverse art collection and inviting atmosphere. Spanning 12.
Great place to being the kids. They are always happy to come to thus park. It's also nice that they have a fence up around the children's playground that way it makes it easier to keep track of your children. I most certainly recommend this park to everyone.

This park is absolutely beautiful and full of charm! You can really feel its history — it’s one of those older parks that’s been well cared for over the years. It’s always clean, peaceful, and feels very safe, whether you’re walking alone or bringing the family. There’s plenty of parking all around the park, which makes visiting super convenient. A perfect spot to relax, take a stroll, or just enjoy the scenery!
Ethan W — Google review
It is an educational park, it has historical sculptures, you feel very calm in that park.
Frank R — Google review
Valid park, 10/10 playground and unique facilities, statues are cool too. Ground of playground is EPDM (rubber basically) and everything exposed is plastic and there is a fence around it so your kid is pretty protected here. Huge patches of snow for making a snowman in the winter too

The Flannel fest was really nice. Me and my wife attended last year and this year was just as nice. With more food trucks and vendors. Live band and more. Hope the Champaign park district continues to do more of these events year round for the community.

I grew up in Champaign and went to Central High nearby so I'm very familiar with this park. Took photos with my family at the fountain, great spot! The playground is new and looked amazing (and also interactive for all).

Clean, and beautiful landscape. We love to visit each time we come to Springfield

Great park on the west side of town. Everything seemed very well maintained and there are even a couple of large pieces of sculpture, a central fountain, gazebo, a memorial, and plenty of beautiful flower gardens. It was nice to hang out on my lunch period on a sunny day with plenty of shade trees. Shade , much like the shade my ex father in law has been throwing my way since I accidentally left the gas on and blew up his trailer.

Discover the rich history of Champaign County at the Champaign County History Museum at the Historic Cattle Bank. Housed in a meticulously restored 1857 building, this nonprofit museum showcases rotating exhibits that delve into local history dating back to the 17th century. Through a collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents, visitors can gain insight into the early settlers, industrial growth, and cultural evolution that have shaped Champaign-Urbana over time.
A small and free museum that offers a glimpse of Champaign's history. I liked the artifacts and found them to be informative.

At first the guy didn't want to talk to me about history. And then he opened up and it was amazing. I love Town history I lived here as a teenager and moved away at 21. I didn't like history then and I'm a historic reenactor now so it was a very very interesting experience. I loved about the the electric train cars that they used to have here I went to several counties

Not the largest museum that you'll visit, but extremely well curated with interesting exhibits. Nice combination of media and artifacts to bring the topics alive. Free with a $3 requested donation, so definitely worth the price of admission.
Jan K — Google review
An excellent museum with very high quality displays produced by volunteers. Walking through the museum and looking at the displays you would think the entire place was laid out, designed and produced by professional museum designers. Well worth a visit. Especially if you live in Champaign County and haven't ever been there.
Rick L — Google review
Nothing expansive or fancy here ... just a couple of rooms of exhibits. But what's there is very well-presented, and gives a nice overview of the history of the county. One room is dedicated to how WWII affected Champaign County, especially at the (now-defunct) Chanute Air Base in Rantoul. That was very interesting. The people that work/volunteer there are friendly and clearly knowledgeable. You could see it for free, but it's more than worth the $3 suggested donation. A very pleasant way to pass an hour.

Cool little museum. Good way to kill an hour or two. These types of museums are so interesting because you often can talk directly with the people who curate and make the exhibits, and this one was no different.

The Virginia Theatre, located in Champaign, Illinois, is a historic and opulent movie house that opened in 1921. With its extravagant Renaissance Revival facade and Spanish Revival decor, it serves as both a movie theater and performing arts venue. The theater hosts a variety of events including live music concerts, stage productions, film screenings, talks by cultural figures, and dance performances.
Wonderful classic style theater over 100 years old! Character and class!!! We saw a showing of JAWS there - spectacular!
Steven W — Google review
A classic small theater. Every seat is close enough to the stage. Seats are cushioned, comfy, but not very wide. We were near the back on the main floor, sound was very loud. Great view. Serves popcorn and drinks which you can take into the theater. No line for bathroom, that's always nice. Staff is nice, also quite fast at getting people in. There is a bag check, so be prepared, and arrive early folks, not cool to interrupt other patrons by seating late.
Kimberly A — Google review
This theater is magnificent. Well trained staff and their volunteers are warm, friendly and a great asset to this magnificent structure creating an experience like no other. This well managed theater is very clean, seats were comfortable and in good condition. The balcony and orchestra pit are all very nice. Lots of free parking and handicap accessible entrance. I'll be back very soon. Thank you for the great experience!

Absolutely beautiful theater! I was late and had a 7 minute walk to the venue because I didnt know where to park, the staff was super sweet and understanding and helped me find the bathrooms and my seat. Phenomenal show, so very happy I got to see it! Thank you!
Dana M — Google review
I have always had a nice experience here. The single toilets are a nice touch, I hate using a bathroom in a crowded place. Good acoustics. The seats are a bit hard on your back side, I think it's because they are original to the theater. Staff is always friendly and prices for shows and movies are always at a good fair price.

Nestled in the heart of the community, The Art Theater is a charming vintage cinema that dates back to 1913. This beloved venue specializes in showcasing an eclectic mix of art, foreign, and cult films, making it a haven for cinephiles seeking something beyond mainstream offerings. With its cozy atmosphere and friendly staff, visitors can enjoy delicious snacks and refreshing alcoholic beverages while immersing themselves in unique cinematic experiences.
Eye Maxx What a pleasure to see a movie at this 20th Century Relic. I'll never know how a place like this stays open but I never want it to close. A single house theater means they pick and choose their films wisely. If you remember when films were films this is your theater. If you've seen more than two sequels this year stay home n Netflix. Intimate and enjoyable experience.
Dan F — Google review
I enjoyed watching The River and The Wall here. They have vegan popcorn which was a pleasant surprise! The films are great and the environment is nice. My only complaint is that the air conditioning in the theater is a little loud and makes it pretty cold so you may need a light jacket.
Maddy L — Google review
Nice little theater that shows many independent movies not playing at mainstream theaters. Ticket prices can be high, but their concessions are reasonable, and they offer alcohol. Bathrooms are very small and not handicapped accessible; however, there are spaces in the theater for wheelchairs.
Todd R — Google review
Films always start on time here. The seats are comfortable. The price is reasonable. The concession stand is over priced. They do have beer selections. They get movies that neither of the other theaters in town get. You can also rent the theater for parties.
Ben B — Google review
A wonderful independent theater with good selections. Plays first-run indie films, but also has late shows of classics and modern gems. The main appeal of the Art is its welcoming nature: the staff are great, drinks are good, and the general experience is cozy.
Peter O — Google review
A fun place for an afternoon with the family watching an art house film. The facilities are a bit rough around the edges, but I expect that of an independent theater of this era. It could be gorgeous with the right budget, but I definitely recommend supporting them to feel this little diamond in the rough open for years to come.
Scott L — Google review
This place is awesome and I encourage everyone to support it. I actually prefer going here than to the big chain theaters in town, if I can, to see a movie I want to see. They often show movies that aren't shown at other theaters in town, sometimes they have free screenings, and they are often involved in events that support the local community (because they're a co-op and actually an active part of the C-U community). If you're still unsure if you want to go, another perk is that they serve alcohol here for a reasonable price (unlike the large theaters where drinks are overpriced), so you can get a beer with your popcorn, if you're into that, and not have to pay $10 for it. Plus, sometimes they even have drink and other concession specials to help fundraise for local organizations.
Cat C — Google review
Hey this place is great! Go get a burger a Farrens and check out a theater with a lovely staff. I like to enjoy a Guinness with my movie. Not as showy as the Virginia but it doesn't have to be because they have a much more regular mix of classic and hard to find new releases. You can even become a shareholder and own a portion of the joint!

The museum offers hands-on exhibits and activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Visitors can explore a planetarium, robotics lab, chemistry lab, and 3D printing lab. Additionally, the museum features outdoor attractions like a Dino dig area and butterfly garden.
5$ to get in. Grandkids loved it, a lot of the areas are non operating especially in the vet room, but the concept and dress up was still appreciated. Interesting old building . Though it's geared towards 10 and under my older grandchildren found things to do . The outside section was closed due to weather. Many secret spaces to entertain the kids. We spent about 2 hour here.
Debbie K — Google review
Lots of activities for the kids. A great indoor option during the winter, but the outdoor activities look fun too! All of the activities are pretty age-universal and fun no matter what, but the older they are, they could really learn a ton of science. Everyone, staff and visitors, were all really friendly and helpful.

A good place ti spend a day with kids. There are machines, toys and simulators that are of interest for young kids. The staff is friendly and do their best to keep the place clean and tidy.
Hasan C — Google review
A great place to have in the downtown area. Lots of activities for kids. A fabulous outdoor space with Dino dig, bubbles, and butterfly garden. A water table, a Lego area, and an indoor slide are just a few of the indoor features. This place is perfect for any day but especially for hot summer days and cold winter days when you need a place to take the kids to burn off energy. A membership for a year is the best value but if only going for a day it is only $5 per person.
Judy E — Google review
For being in such a small place, it’s pretty good. They have the iconic water table and wind tunnels for the kids to play with. We spent only about 1.5-2 hours here before we continued on our vacation to Iowa. It was also free for military, so big plus!!
Bud M — Google review
Love this little children’s museum. Expect to spend 1-3 hours here, depending on age of your kids. Perfect for 1-6 year olds. Older siblings will have fun for awhile, but probably not a destination for them to go without younger siblings. Exhibits my son enjoys the most are the water table, magnet tiles, indoor playground area, and watching the turtles swim around.
Callie W — Google review
The museum itself was nice. The kids liked the outdoor area and spent a lot of time at the water table and the coloring on the walls. Halfway through our visit they opened the gates and released all the camp kids with no supervision. They ran, pushed, grabbed and didn’t share and blocked my children from entering the boat or the space area. We ended up leaving earlier than planned and less than happy.

The lifeguards at the center are extremely responsible and attentive, ensuring visitors feel safe throughout their stay.
I love this place, I always have a great time. 🌊 It’s super fun, with slides and areas to just chill. The vibe is family-friendly and really nice, perfect to go with friends or family and have a good time. I always leave happy and wanting to come back
Alonso M — Google review
It has a lot of amenities for being a local swimming pool. There are multiple slides, a lazy river, and different sections for different ages. The season pool pass for residents is awesome. There was a lot of leaves in the pools and I feel they could have more attention for cleaning but overall I recommend.
Rachel O — Google review
Environment is family friendly and cleanliness is a priority. Lifeguards enforce rules pretty uniformly. As with every public space in this city, there are sometimes bad actors. However my experience with them has been few and far between and management always seems pretty willing to enforce keeping it a family friendly place. Get the pass if you can, especially if you don't live in the city. Price of admission for a family of 5 is steap otherwise.
WK — Google review
We love this place. the little ones love the children's play area. We love that you can bring a cooler with snacks and drinks which makes the day a little easier on the pocket book!

Fun local pool/ mini water Park with two identical body slides, one tube slide into the lazy river and a large pool that extends into a kiddie area. Definitely recommend buying passes if you intend on visiting 7+ times in a season, there is a sale late April! Concessions offer a fair variety of snacks and food. Outside food is allowed. Remember to respect all the rules, it's not a private pool!

I took my children there this past weekend. Everyone was pleasant. The facility was clean and well maintained. My children are 12 & 15 and the facility was age appropriate and they are looking forward to our next visit!

Alto Vineyards Champaign is a delightful wine bar located along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, offering a perfect setting to savor luxurious wines while enjoying breathtaking views. Although it doesn't have its own vineyard, it sources its wines from Alto Vineyard in Alto Pass. The knowledgeable staff provides excellent assistance and the atmosphere is inviting. However, some visitors found it challenging to locate due to the lack of signage.
First time here, not sure why, been on my Google map for years. Lovely fall afternoon, free music, could not have been better. The wine is reasonably priced and the 2 we had were both good. We will be back

Champaign location: 4 of us stopped in for flights or slushies. Because there was a Bachelorette party, your employee said no flights. She was standing around doing nothing while telling us this. Slushies were out and she said it would take about 15 minutes. This was so disappointing. It was the final stop on a vacation trip. I was hoping to do the flight to choose another 4 pack to bring home. Your policy lost a good sale. We bought 5 bottles at your Alto Pass location a couple days ago and regretted not getting more. This location is our favorite winery.

Champaign Location: I was here about a month ago when the review below me was. Lol They were the WORST. Alto Vineyards, However, is the Best. Which location is the best? Yes. They both are the best. I've also been to both, and their customer service at either site is top-notch. I found their Champaign location to be quite lovely, peaceful, and enjoyable. You can confidently expect the same, except, perhaps, when a 4-Pack of Wild Grumpys is on the loose. (Dont hold me to this. Your mileage may vary) In my vast drinking experience, (be it out of a brewery, winery, bar, brown paper bag in the back of my car, or otherwise,) Policies (such as no flights during large parties) make perfect sense, and are in place specifically to maintain such a high level of customer service, as guests are correct to expect. Lol...Especially, when so many guests are in attendance like at parties and events etc etc.. duh. That's how the world works. So yeah. Shots fired. Alto Vineyards is the best. As a guy who happily enjoys the finer things in life, feel welcome to stop on by. PS. Get a slushie. They're also the best and worth the wait.
Kingston T — Google review
Had a great relaxing visit at Alto Vineyards today. Sat outside on the patio and shared 2 different flights and glasses of their Blended Sangria. We left with 7 bottles of wine and the recipe for the Sangria.Nice job, Alto! We really enjoyed the variety and tastes of you wine.

Rented the Champaign location for our wedding reception. Loved the quiet rural scenery while still being relatively close to town. Staff and managers were all very helpful beforehand to get things in order. And even when our food truck (Fernando’s) cancelled on us, the manager was able make some calls and get another truck out for us, which is above and beyond what he had to do. Great venue for live music as well.
Edward L — Google review
Extremely pretty. Fabulous staff. We had a lot of fun. We stopped in in the evening in November. They had had a chili cook off during the day we found out. They have a very extensive events calendar. Very flat parking area is gravel building and grounds are handicap accessible. Are puppy love running around, wines are fruit wines the special in November was a sin Grua, which I bought two bottles. Very comfortable interior spotlessly clean I can only imagine how beautiful it is for weddings in the spring and summer. The website says they serve food, they do not except for cheese and crackers, and small bites for wine tasting. Campers can fit in the parking lot.
Stephanie C — Google review
Great afternoon with live music. You can bring a chair listen and relax. They have a large selection of wine along with some sodas. Inviting friendly people!
Sarah C — Google review
Is a pretty good wine bar. No vineyard. They have all there wine transferred from the Alto Vinyard in Alto Pass. However, the staff was very helpful. Knew there stuff when it came to the wine. However, we have been to the one in Alto Pass many times so knew what wine we liked. The atmosphere was also very good... The only negative thing I have to say about it is there were no signs on the road to help with location. We used gps and it took us the long way apparently. All around a good experience tho.

Wonderful hidden gem in Urbana. The nature museum is small, but has fascinating exhibits about local flora and fauna, including live snakes, owls, salamanders, and turtles. Everything is very kid-friendly, and includes a place to do crayon rubbings of leaves, a touchscreen activity, and microscope. Make sure to stop at the front desk--the staff are very friendly and enthusiastic, and will give you the chance to pet a snake. Truthfully, it’s a waste of money. Fun for an hour and then the kids are over it. Staff is just a bunch of stoned teenagers who couldn’t care less. Live music bar

Located in downtown Urbana, the Rose Bowl Tavern has been a hub for live music since 1946. While it has a history rooted in country music, it now showcases diverse genres and hosts at least two shows daily. The venue offers craft cocktails and mocktails from the bar as you enjoy performances by touring or local bands. In addition to its own offerings, the area boasts other venues like NOLAs Rock Bar, Boomerangs Bar and Grill, and more for live music enthusiasts.
Attended two shows for the Pygmalion Festival. Venue was a fun and intimate place to see live entertainment and enjoy some great beers on tap! Safe, free, well lit close parking was a bonus. Many food choices nearby.
Mark M — Google review
Great comment from a visiting musician: “this place is great, it’s what Austin Texas was 30 years ago.” The bar is an old venue that was strictly Country western and in the past few years is under new management, drawing in eclectic mix of talent. Could not recommend this place more. We frequent jazz clubs in New Orleans, New York, Chicago, and Paris and candidly the Rose Bowl ranks right up there only it’s so much more friendly, easy to access, and incredibly cost-effective. Very laid-back, you can take food in and enjoy the show. There is Usually no cover, they just pass a bucket. The talent level is fantastic. At the time of this post, they have Jazz every Friday from 5 to 7, a fantastic jazz band on the first Sunday 3 to 5, a world class Cajun band every second Sunday from 3 to 5, a wonderful bluegrass band on the third Sunday from 3 to 5 and sprinkle the rest of the week with all kinds of various types of bands. A band that plays Django is featured once a month. Where else are you going to find something like that? There is pretty much music there seven days a week, frequently with at least two bands a day. We regularly have friends from Europe join us, and this is a go to that they love and imagine is in every community in the US. Bar wise Rosebowl has a very serious bourbon selection and a great beer selection. The prices are very modest. During the cold months, all of the music is inside, but around May through early fall, there is a large tent and a big stage in the parking lot that is nothing short of magical. Huge thumbs up. It’s a mandatory venue to attend!

I love the rose bowl, Ive been a regular for a few years now. The environment is very friendly and they're always hosting fun events. Their the best nightlife spot in Urbana and they are an ally. They hose pride events and a lot of my fellow queers, gays, and thems hang out around here. Only complaint is that their sour selection is not good. :( as an advice sour consumer I wish they carried more and better choices. Maybe some Distilled sours or the dutchess 😋. Anyways if you haven't check out the rosebowl - look on their website to see which events are coming up, the live music and DJ's are great!

Great vibes for random night out. Great start of a night out. It was goth night when we went in prepared and still great vibes and people. Bar staff were also fast and nice and drinks super tasty. Recommend the rattlesnake cocktail they are known for.
Kimberly N — Google review
I lived in small mountain towns in Colorado for a long time and this is the closest thing I have found East of Denver that matches the quality of that vibe. Having live music every single night of the year, as feasible, is incredible and rare. Tonight, they had three people that had never played together and it was one of the best sets of music I've ever seen. They didn't know each other and it was so fun to watch them figure each other out and when they hit that perfect note it was magic. I feel privileged to have seen it. I recommend grabbing some dinner to-go and support your local artists. You never know what you'll see and I have never had a bad time. TIP! THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WE NEED TO SUPPORT

Matt is the best most personable bartender you could ask for! Bar always clean, well mannered staff, and the drinks are reasonably priced! Definitely worth going to Monday night hoots!
Samantha W — Google review
This is a dive bar with an extremely active music schedule. The drinks are cheap, the bartenders efficient. Shows are either free or low cost. The crowd is a great range of ages. They don't serve food.
Allison J — Google review
Can't believe this is the first time I'm rating this place! It's my favorite pub in town. There is live (usually local) music every single day for a variety of tastes, there is an outdoor patio, a great selection of craft and other domestic beer, and the service is second to none.

Dodds Park, situated in the northwestern part of Champaign, is a modern community facility offering various outdoor amenities. The 110-acre park features 7 baseball fields, 12 soccer fields, a disc golf course, and garden plots. It is known for its 'Tribute to Olympic Athletes Monument', honoring 41 Champaign County athletes. The park also offers ample parking and a walking path connecting it to another park and Kaufman Lake.
This is a very clean and nice park. We enjoyed watching the Cross Country team run at the Sectional Meet today at Dodds Park. They have nice indoor bathrooms located in several different sections of the park.

Great place to stretch your legs, run or jog, bring out your bikes, or throw around the ball or frizbee with the dogs! Take in the freshair, beautiful green grass, & even some of the hidden gems designed to wow your imagination. Ive seen a few golfers out here too, and a couple having wedding pictures taken. Make sure to use the restroom ahead of time-came here once with the dogs and the bathrooms were locked! (Yikes)

There's a nice shaded picnic area under a pavilion to eat or watch games. They had a playground for kids with a cover and nets to somewhat help protect them from fowl balls. Women's restroom is equipped with an automatic door for accessibility, however it was not working.
Angie B — Google review
Fresh air wide open space for jolly walk, place to play and watch games. Nice place to spend some time to get fresh air. The first Champaign county balloon 🎈 festival was held here.
Maltesh K — Google review
Used to have alot of fun here but oversight from the top has been ruining these fields. Umpires routinely late to games, Unfair, aggressive, loud referees. Smoking / drinking of players during game on the fields and in dugouts. Fields are clean and well preserved, it's people and oversight that is the issue
Stripes S — Google review
Great well marked fields, with convenient parking for each. 2-3 fields working for tournaments and NO CONCESSIONS open? Missed opportunity for them to make money and not convenient when at ball games all evening.

Robert C. Porter Family Park offers a serene escape from the urban hustle, boasting walking trails, ponds, and a kids' playground set amidst a natural landscape with a restored prairie area. This city project is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the once neglected wildlife in Illinois. The park features biking and walking paths, beautiful lakes for fishing or leisurely contemplation, lookout spots, play equipment for children, as well as shady picnic areas. It's an ideal destination for families and nature enthusiasts alike.
This is a great park! Ideal for walking, running, biking, roller blading, etc. Each path is paved, and there is a beautiful assortment of wild flowers, trees, and plants. There is plenty of parking, a playground, picnic area, and a porta potty. It appears that there are multiple entrances from the surrounding neighborhood. Great hidden gem on the west end of Champaign! 🌳🌿🦋

I walked along the native wildflower plantings and enjoyed the variety of colors and types of species. Orange, magenta, and violet Milkweed. The green grasses were besutiful. Lovely park. Great parking.
Fawn P — Google review
Great park with several paved loops, including one around a pond with a bridge. Beautiful trees. A fishing dock and comfortable benches to sit and listen to the peaceful sound of the wind through leaves and watch sun sparkling on water. The play areas look like they'd be much fun for little ones. Everything well maintained and clean. Port o pot was big and clean. Picnic areas under rain roofs are near the parking lot. Pics are from mid-October 2022.
Anne M — Google review
Nice park with a loop trail a little under one mile. Has a newer playground with nice wildflower plants surrounding it. A small pond with lilies and a steel bridge is on the south end. A few pheasants may be heard or seen. Most of the park is open prairie with few shade trees. Entrance is on the west side only. There are about 40 parking spots and a drop off zone. Entire park is wheelchair accessible. Leashed pets are welcome.
Arnoud B — Google review
I haven’t seen such a high-quality prairie since my summer at a nature preserve. I am absolutely in love with this park! There were tons of wildflowers, grasses, and unique bird species. There’s also a huge park for the kiddos. Whoever’s taking care of this park knows what they’re doing!!!
Kelly G — Google review
A nice huge park near the dog park, with a lot of biking and walking paths, and beautiful lakes to fish in or look at. There are also looking put spots, and at the center there is play equipment with cool structures and slides, plus a bike rack, a bridge, benches, grassy spaces, etc. It is in a bit of an isolated location, though you could also see this as peaceful really. Has cool bridges and good for the whole family, including dogs. Also has shady spots with cool picnic locations. In weird location near to sewage plant as previously noted sort of
Averee — Google review
Experience a delightful and uncrowded setting with a beautifully maintained lotus pond, complete with a bridge and two decks, one positioned closer to the water. The air sometimes carries the subtle, foul smell from somewhere. Kids playground is also well maintained.
Sanjay R — Google review
This park is BEAUTIFUL! I come here to walk for the serenity. The wild flowers attract so many pollinators, it's amazing! I love the natural design for the playground as well! I love coming here, my boys love coming here. It is an allover great park! 🥰 Ps. It has a portapotty that is always well kept, which is a plus!
