El Nispero Zoo, located in El Valle de Anton, is a popular destination featuring a variety of animals including endangered frogs, coyotes, jaguars, exotic birds, turtles, macaws, tapirs, tigers and more. Originally not intended to be a zoo but rather a botanical garden, it has evolved into a diverse animal sanctuary. Visitors can also enjoy attractions such as the Butterfly Haven (El Mariposario), Chorro El Macho Waterfall and bird watching.
A nice but basic zoo to visit, there are multiple animals kept at quite basic conditions. Many farm animals and birds also. The cages seem sometimes too small for the animals, it's a bit difficult to get around the perimeter and the cages are made mostly from a very dense grid metal fence that just makes it very hard to see the animals. But still, overall it's a nice place to visit, you get to see crocodiles, monkeys, jaguars and more. Important: Bring a bug repellant spray. Price: 18$ for 2 adults and 2 children. There is a single toilet near the entrance. Not crowded. Most of the time you walk on grass, that might be wet during the rainy season. The visit would take you about an hour. Some basic snacks can be bought near the entrance. A good combination with this zoo visit would be a short one hour hike of the square trees path that is only a few minutes drive from there: "Square Trees Nature Trail (Arboles Cuadrados)"

This place had been around forever. I used to come here on school field trips when I was a child. And we always like it because We didn't know better. Now, as an adult, after 30 years, I realized that these poor animals are very stressed, and some look very sad. The peacocks and some of the parrots have no feathers. The tapirs look sad 😔. I know they are trying to do the best they can with the resources they have, but it's heartbreaking to see. The plants and greenery looked healthy, and they have reasonable prices for the plants that they have for sale. I was told I could buy quails, but they only had the white ones, so I passed. I wanted them as pets that lay eggs. As you will see in my pictures, I enjoyed the plants and greenery than the animals we saw.
G D — Google review
The zoo is small and basic, but there are many animals to see. Suggest reserving at least 2 hours to walk around in this place.
SH W — Google review
Although it is a small zoo, it is quite relaxing to walk around and seeing the animals. Best part was the birds. Only downside was seeing the larger cats, caymans and coyotes in small enclosures.
Edegar V — Google review
It was very interesting to watch. A lot of animals and was pretty fun to trail.
Christopher S — Google review
Nice little zoo its cool and shaded. Bring water.
J C — Google review
This was a nice visit. The grounds are gorgeous. When I started walking in I was skeptical. But then we saw some amazing animals. And the place is very big. Good value for the money. It’s a nice hike. I was a bit sad to see such beautiful birds caged but also, if they were not in cages we wouldn’t be able to see them.
Nilvia B — Google review
We was in the morning and the weather was good for walking and seeing the animals. The price for entrance was 18$ 2 adults and 2 kids. The staff feed the animals at the time wa was there. Also they have plants for sale. We like to walk and see the animals not soo many species to see but nice to visit.

Butterfly Haven, located in the heart of El Valle, offers a captivating experience with its three rooms where visitors can witness butterflies in various stages of their life cycle. The informative tour provides insights into the metamorphosis process and the plants that attract these delicate creatures. Nestled in El Valle de Anton, nature enthusiasts can also explore the area's diverse flora and fauna while hiking along its renowned trails.
Great experience. You get inside the area and you can walk freely. After you finish searching and filming the butterflies, there is a guide who gives explanations about some of the butterflies - their life circle and other information. Highly recommended and great service.
Roie L — Google review
We were glad to see the Google opening hours listed were accurate. We arrived, found parking available and purchased tickets easily. Pricing was very reasonable. We didn't watch the documentary but that was available. We were able to walk very slowly and make this a meditative experience then though there were quite a lot of visitors coming through. Everyone just worked their way around us. No matter how long you were in there, it seemed like new coloured and patterned butterflies kept appearing. We truly enjoyed it. We finished off with a bit of souvenir shopping where bracelets, mugs, honey etc are available. Restrooms were clean and very accessible.
Ilona H — Google review
Great experience. Get there when sunny as the butterflies are more active. Friendly informative and educational staff.
Si S — Google review
What a wonderful surprise!! I have visited other butterfly conservatories (Mariposarios), in several other countries, but never one that had such a large number of butterflies in a relatively small space. They were there by the hundreds, flying all around us as we walked through. Following the unlimited time in the conservatory they had a bilingual guide explain and demonstrate the butterfly eggs, caterpillar stage and plant that they feed on and how they collect the eggs for breeding. They also had a nice short film in English from PBS on the whole butterfly cycle. I rate this experience “Wonderful “

A Hidden Gem in El Valle – Especially for Italians! 🇮🇹🦋 We visited Butterfly Haven in El Valle de Antón yesterday and were truly enchanted. A young, passionate guide walked us through the fascinating life cycle of butterflies, sharing not just facts but the full story with genuine enthusiasm. His love for what he does was contagious, and our curiosity seemed to inspire him even more—he went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. Later, we met the owner, Ruben, who happens to be from Rome—what a joy to meet a fellow Italian so far from home! He was incredibly kind, even offering us a ride to the bus stop. That’s what I call Italian friendship: warm, spontaneous, and heartfelt. Butterfly Haven is a beautiful, peaceful place that deserves much more attention, especially from Italians who often stick to Panama City. If you're Italian and planning a trip to Panama, don’t miss the chance to explore beyond the capital. El Valle is lush, welcoming, and full of surprises—and Butterfly Haven is one of its brightest. Sending warm greetings from an Italian-Colombian couple who left with smiles and gratitude. Grazie mille, Ruben!

Great place to visit! Especially with kids. There are 2 areas filled with butterflies, a room explaining the process of the butterflies maturing and a short 5 minutes video. But the visit can take you easily an hour due to the time the children run around chasing butterflies. There is an English speaking guide. The place is located under a rooftop, so can be visited during rain.
Evgy — Google review
Very cute place to go see butterflies. Worth a stop if you are in the area!

Its a good experience very short but has a wow effect once you enter, even for locals, you won't be wanting to go back, it's just a very quick stop, and very short experience.

Pozos Termales El Valle de Antón, also known as The Anton Valley, is a stunning destination nestled in the mountainous region of Cocle Province in Panama. The town is situated within a volcanic crater, offering a unique setting surrounded by picturesque mountains, lush jungle, and abundant wildlife.
Overwhelmed by all of our visit there! It was so beautiful & lush. Waterfall was worth the hike. Only thing I regret was not doing the Mineral bath!

Visited this place 5 years ago and everything was so natural with no monetary gains attached. Today the place was more of a money making racket for everything you want to do you got to pay. Quite disheartened after my this mornings visit.
Sharon J — Google review
So the last time that I visited a thermal water place like this was about 30 years ago when I was a child so I didn't remember much or knew really what to spect. I wanted to come inside and to see how the waters were since there is a sign outside that mentions how the waters were cloudy, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it I'm kind of picky with my waters. So we end up paying the $6 entrance fee ×3 so we can see 👀 the place. The place itself is really beautiful because of all the greenery and nature right away. There's a sense of peace. At the moment you come in, they asked you if you had been there before and what to do. So it's supposed to be a relaxing experience while you get in the thermal pools with a nice temperature. But the reality of it is that there's lot's of people there they are all talking and if there are children is worst they are doing some of the things they let you know what not to do like splash, or jump and the parents seem careless about interrupting the others patrons relaxing experience. My brother and my sister in law did not get in the water since it was very cloudy and smelled like a swamp 😑 but I wanted to trust the process and proceed to get chaged and got into the water but almost immediately regret it I touch something in the water but instead of the 35-45 minutes I only lasted 10 and that was a lot. I did not relax at all. There was too much noise(people talking very loudly and lots of children). The water that is used to rinse yourself comes out very cold. And mud masks are sold separately. If you love trees and nature is lovely to come but don't know about the relaxing part of using the thermal pools.
G D — Google review
After my hike up LA India dormida the day before, this was the perfect reward for myself, friendly staff, clean, Awesome seanery. Mud on my face 2 dollars for small container. Will go again next week.
George M — Google review
Charming little place nestled in the forest with 2 smaller pools for feet soaking and 2 larger full body soaking pools. Do not expect luxury, but rather a therapeutic and natural setting that seems to be frequented mostly by locals. Was a lovely stop on our road trip.
Valerie S — Google review
We’ve read a lot of negative and super negative reviews here. I must say they were quite helpful. Everything is based around expectations from the patrons. Yes, you have pay for the mud, which is understandable otherwise people go wild. Yes, the admittance is a bit overpriced. Yes, it’s a bit run down. No, you can not expect it to be tranquil. No, you can not expect clear water, for two reasons (1) minerals (2) people use it all day, but the pools are emptied everyday. All in all, if know what you’re in for this is a worthwhile visit after a hike. We spend 20$ total for 2 adults and 2 kids, with 2 small doses of mud, and had a relaxing 90minutes just before closing. Sometimes being able to be in a pool with just us four. I understand people being frustrated if it’s overcrowded and if other people play music, that should be forbidden.
Thom K — Google review
Gorgeous place! Hot Springs are nice make sure you get to one of the roads that go up to the top of the mountain you'll be on the edge of the volcano😁

Cerro Cara Iguana is a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts in Valle de Anton. The hike to the top offers a unique perspective of the valley and provides insight into the formation of the crater. Unlike other hikes in the area, Cerro Cara Iguana promises a distinct experience and stunning views from its summit. It's recommended to embark on this sunset hike after enjoying a sunrise trek at Cerro La Silla for an unforgettable day of exploration.
The google maps guides were good in the city streets. Once I got to the place I had to use “all trails” to find my way to the top. So just take the main trail to get to the ranger cabin and from there a single trail takes you to the top with nice view of the Anton valley
Hanoch R — Google review
Beautiful landscape, we've been here on a Friday and there was absolutely no one around! The trails are easy to find and they are not do difficult. The parking space is only accessible with a good AWD. In our case the Toyota Fortuner did an excellent job. High recommended!!!
Justin R — Google review
From the Cara Iguana hill you get one of the best views of the Anton Valley and you can enjoy excellent hiking from this point you can see sunrises and sunsets. Important recommendation: during the rainy season (March-November) you should not walk alone and there is a risk of lightning at the top of the mountain. Avoid accidents in summer, the breezes are strong at the top and I recommend not standing on the cliffs.
Jerry F — Google review
It is relatively easy to reach the top by walking from the center of town, but you must have certain physical conditions due to the slope of the terrain. Nature lovers will love the path as you can see many species of plants and animals. The landscape from the top is very beautiful, at any time of the day. Unfortunately, unscrupulous people have thrown garbage along the road and near streams that originate on the hill, which is very unfortunate.
Mabelin S — Google review
Do not attempt to drive up the gravel road without a 4 x 4. Hike up the road or use all-trails to find trailhead.
Melissa P — Google review
Really an amazing hike! You get a beautiful view of the town when you make it to the top. The hike up the gravel road is the most challenging part, it's extremely steep. We went the beginning of April and the wind was wild! Made for a very unique experience.
Heather — Google review
Great hike and beautiful views, compare to other ones this is quite easy, as there is a route almost to the top of the hill. Be ready for the strong wind and rainy showers. If you go for sunset do not forget a torch or charged your phone so you can use your flash
Václav P — Google review
Such a wonderful hike! We went during the week and there was no people at all during our entire hike. The hill is a bit steep when going up but once you are on top the views are breathtaking. Definitely worth the effort!

The Square Trees Nature Trail (Arboles Cuadrados) in El Valle de Anton, Panama is a unique and pleasant walk that offers a beautiful location with mainly shaded areas. The trail provides opportunities to see wildlife such as sloths, squirrels, and critically endangered species like the golden frogs. Visitors can also explore a small museum showcasing these species as part of a research and breeding program.
Decent experience - the trail is easy and safe for walking. In the office, they have explained to us that there is a bridge that collapsed, so there are two options: 1. You can go back to the starting point. 2. You can pass the river beneath the bridge (there are no signs, so it can be a little confusing). The water level is shallow, but there are some slippery rocks you must step on. Another thing, you should use a mosquito repellent, because you can't stand without being sting.
Roie L — Google review
This place is located on Hotel Campestre property. It cost $4 USD per person to walk 1.24 miles (2km). There is a reception area that has a small exhibit area, but this cost extra (should be included for $4.This is a great little trail & would be really good if they had a guided night walk, with a guide to point out all the wildlife. Most of the trail is under the tree canopy along a running creek and it rained on us most of the time. It’s an easy hike & was enjoyable in the rain. But it’s not worth $4 per person. The trail is overgrown, & there are 2 bridges that you have to cross with questionable flooring. It worth $2 per person, but for short paid trail, I would expect it would be better maintained. But again this would really be a great guided night walk. The trees are also marked & labeled with QR codes which is really cool
Glenn J — Google review
It was okay, didn’t see much at all. If you need time to kill do it. If your limited, there are better trails
Cameron G — Google review
Amazing nature trail full of trees and nature lots of birds and amazing trees! Please go and visit the frog conservation area to see rare beautiful frogs and reptiles, 10/10
Dj R — Google review
This is an easy hike that could be completed at a leisurely pace in between 30 and 45 minutes. But it's pleasant enough that we easily dragged it out to an hour as we sought sloths. We didn't see any but know others who have. There's a deck with views of the surrounding hills toward the end of the trail that would make a nice place for a picnic. While an easy hike, it is not wheelchair accessible.
Rod T — Google review
This nature hike was spectacular!! We took our parents who are in thier 70's & they were able to do the hike. Slightly concerned they would have difficulty, but it was okay. The view and walk was so lovely and its a great hike for families. We saw loads of mushrooms & flora.
B B — Google review
A moderate hiking trail perfect for families that costs $4 per person. Took my parents in their early 70s and some of the trail was challenging for them, but we grabbed a walking stick and helped them out. Most people would have no issues. The climate is lovely and lots too see. The water is crystal clear and easy to access. A great place to support.

The EVACC Foundation operates a small conservation center at the entrance to Sendero Natural Arboles Quadrado, a popular trail in El Valle de Anton. This center, located behind the hotel pool, is run by passionate young conservationists and houses various frog species along with a gift shop offering stickers and butterfly nets. It provides detailed information about the amphibians and offers an intriguing experience for visitors interested in wildlife conservation.
Worth a visit! We saw the rare golden frog and some other frogs. We also did the little walk next to it and we saw our first sloth there! Very kind people there explained a lot of things to us about the frogs.
Leoni S — Google review
A small but meaningful learning space, the Amphibian Conservation Center is dedicated to teaching visitors about various frog species and the protection of the iconic golden frog. The center plays a crucial role in preventing the extinction of this unique amphibian, which is also a national symbol of Panama. When you visit, remember that the center was created with the purpose of both education and conservation. I loved the visit because I saw frogs I had never seen before, and they also provide valuable information. It was my first time seeing the golden frog, and it was an incredible experience.
Jerry F — Google review
A fascinating place with an inspiring scientific and educational mission. The staff is very friendly and happy to explain their work to protect endangered amphibian species. Visiting the center directly supports the conservation of these unique creatures and helps raise awareness about Panama’s rich biodiversity. From the center, you can access the Square Trees Trail, a short and pleasant hike that’s perfect for nature lovers and those curious about rare plant formations. Definitely worth the visit!
Mabelin S — Google review
Lovely little spot where you can view some of the few Panamanian frogs left. Run by a tiny team and staffed by volunteers, it is a must-visit if you are interested in nature and animals and in the Anton Valley area. Very affordable entry prices and a small store to buy souvenirs and support their efforts. It was wet that day so we didn't try the walking trails, but will definitely return for that at some time.
Andrew F — Google review
We really enjoyed the enthusiasm and information at EVACC. Emilydis and Yasmin were a joy and they showed how much they loved working there. It was amazing to see the golden frogs and I hope the continued efforts and re-populate Panama! Thank you for such an experience

Really worth a visit. The center is located behind the swimming pool of the hotel. It's run by a couple of enthusiastic, young conservationists. The place isn't big but houses some really interesting amphibians and the detailed background information you get is very interesting.

India Dormida, also known as La India Dormida, is a popular sunrise hike in El Valle de Anton. The trail offers stunning views of the town and takes about 45 minutes to an hour from the town center. It's a short but intense hike that doesn't require any transportation arrangements, making it accessible for all. The trailhead is located just outside of town, allowing hikers to easily walk there.
The hike is moderate, depending on which route chosen and the weather. Generally the view from the top should be nice, but if the weather is not so good, it would be quite foggy. Still it would also be an unique experience.

Wow what an awesome hike. Steap climb, slippery, Waterfalls, amazing views. well worth the effort. God's creations are awesome. friendly people on hike up and down. I jumped in the Waterfalls at the bottom, great. my reward. water was cold.

Very nice. Steep, at times, but firm footing. Fairly well maintained, with good places to occasionally stop and catch my breath. The view from the top was worth it, including the $3 entrance fee.

Emma B — Google review
Beautiful hike but definitely moderate to hard (for non hikers). We probably started it too late and were very relieved to finish it before it poured down rain in the afternoon because it was already muddy and slick in several places! We wished we had brought our bathing suits to be able to get into the waterfalls and cool down. But we’re so glad we did it! The town of La Valle is also super lovely for a meal after!
Hannah C — Google review
Moderate to Hard Hike. Very steep in places, wear appropriate footwear. Took us 2 1/2 hrs, resting frequently along the way and enjoying the view at the peak. There were many people selling water, fruit and plants along the trail. Multiple waterfalls along the way. A great view of El Valle de Anton. Incredibly windy at the peak so be careful, but worth the views.
Megan G — Google review
Fairly challenging hike to the summit. This is due to the steep terrain and heat. One at the top it’s very windy but it does let you cool down which is a plus. One at the summit you can choose to go back down or continue along the ridge to las mozas waterfall. This part of the hike was quite easy as it’s much flatter but can be windy at times as you are exposed to the weather a lot.

Chorro Las Mozas, a beautiful waterfall in Panama, offers a family-friendly day out with its three waterfalls and shallow river. The area boasts a lush microclimate with rich soil and abundant wildlife. Visitors can enjoy a short hike and refreshing swim, with some opting to swim near the parking lot while others venture further to discover cool waterfalls and swimming spots.
Beautiful but a bit perilous in rains. We were fortunate in a way to get a late start on the day. It meant we turned back early as the skies unleashed torrents. If we had been further down we could have been swept away. It’s generally safe but again be really careful about planning. Wear well gripping shoes and trust your instinct on risks. Of course if it’s a gorgeous clear day, stroll and swim away!
Kate J — Google review
We could walk to this from our VRBO Casista rental. $1 each for seniors to get in $2 adults. We walked along the river for a ways. The waterfalls we viewed were small but it was still scenic. We had hiking shoes on and most of the rocks were fine and not too slippery but I don't recomend sandals. Some Panamanians were enjoying a dip in deeper spots along the river. It was an enjoyable small hike. We spotted the shiny blue butterflies and a bright red bird but it was gone before I could get a picture. No need for a guide. Note: Banjos were closed today, a Sunday.
Birdluvrs — Google review
Incredibly beautiful natural pools and waterfalls. We came during dry season, there is still plenty of water but walking down the stream was very safe. We went past the “peligrosa” sign (danger) and got to a really beautiful cluster of pools. The initial part of the path there is quite steep and I imagine this is very dangerous if it’s slippery or more water but during the time we went it was fine - be cautious if going this way.
Elina — Google review
Beautiful river to swim in Small waterfall, beautiful forest too - closes at 3 pm during the week and 4 pm on weekends
Scott W — Google review
Very nice and relaxing. You can bathe in the river or hang out. Not a long hike to the waterfall and they have a few open straw tents so you can have your lunch, BBQ, or just chill (bring your own stuff like chairs, coolers, food, etc. ). Since it's part of the city you will pay a small fee per adult or child ($2 per adult/residents)
Rolo G — Google review
This place offers a little adventure for people of all ages. The trek from the parking lot to the waterfall felt about ten to thirteen minutes. Although it is a straight walk you will have to deal with changes in the terrain. You will experience a mix of flat rock, jagged rocks, narrow dirt walkways and also boulders. A little risky at times but nothing dangerous. The entire way you will be walking alongside the stream. This is a perfectly sized adventure for someone wanting to hike a little but not sweat during the process. The entrance will cost a couple of dollars. The parking lot is small and will fill up quickly. The road into it is narrow but with enough space to park along the side. Right along the parking lot are a few huts with tables and chairs were families gather and bring their barbecues. Walk downstream from there to get to the waterfall. The waterfall itself is very small by any standard but you can sit in certain parts and enjoy the flow of the water. It empties into a large opening where visitors sit and take a swim in the shallow water. This is the area where most visitors stop to enjoy the place before returning. It is not advisable to trek further down the river. Myths and legends add to the mystique of many places. This place is no exception. According to online sources, the name of the waterfall, Las Mozas (the girls) comes from the legend of three sisters. To make a long story short, three sisters cried on top of a boulder due to heartbreak. Each one jumped into the water to calm themselves and magically became part of the aquatic world. Some say they can be heard at times. Others even claim to have seen them.

We absolutely loved it! Beautiful nature, refreshing water, picnic tables so pack snacks/lunch if you wish. Water shoes almost a must! We swam, we hiked and jumped into the river. Family trip, kids 16,14,8. All enjoyed it.
Magdalena Z — Google review
When you get there, you'll see someone standing by a rope gate. You have to pay $1 per person for entrance. Parking can be challenging on a Sunday afternoon. There are a picnic tables and a part of the creek that widens out so that the water moves slowly enough for wading / swimming. If you're sure footed, you can walk downstream to the falls. Its best to where footwear that can get wet because some of the path is through shallow bits of the creek. Flip flops and loose sandals are not recommended because you will have to walk over wet, slippery rocks that are by no means on level ground.

Nestled in the picturesque El Valle de Anton, Piedra Pintada stands out as a must-visit destination for those exploring Panama. This remarkable site is home to ancient petroglyphs that date back to around 300 AD, showcasing intricate designs that may represent maps of the region, local wildlife, or even hold spiritual significance. The rock's carvings are a testament to the rich history and culture of Panama’s indigenous peoples.
Quick and pleasant hike. Kids can go if they can walk by themselves. Not recommended to bring babies.
Jon M — Google review
A straight forward easy to navigate trail with way marker posts throughout. It's $3 entry at the access gate and there are also snacks/drinks available there. It can be slippy/mossy/muddy underfoot so don't do this in flip flops/crocs even if you are just going for the river/waterfalls. If you walk just 5 minutes beyond the "Sapo Rock" you will get amazing views above the tree line and across the valley. This section was very manageable and only took around 1.5 hrs there and back. We didn't do the full circuit or the ridge. There are buses and taxis at the entrance to connect you with main part of the town, and some that even go to Panama City.
Ewan B — Google review
Place is good. If you’re in Anton Valle then it’s definitely worth visiting for an hour or two and it’s easy to access. More of a local swimming hole/water park than an actual “waterfall”, but the area is still super pretty. @nothin_but_views
Martybacardi25 — Google review
Seeing pre-Columbian petroglyphs (symbols engraved in rock) so close is, alone, well worth the 3 dollars entrance ticket. Reaching the huge rock with the petroglyphs is an easy 5 minute walk - easy trail from the entrance on the road where you can park your car. After the rock the "real trail" begins in earnest and that's immediately rather steep and muddy, because it rand parallel to a creek with two-three waterfalls in the first few minutes of the trail. It requires trekking shoes or at least shoes with a good grip and a minimum of fitness and mobility (anyone can reach the stone with the petroglyphs, though). No one knows for certain what the petroglyphs represent. Some sources indicate that they are religious symbols, others a harvest calendar and others still a map of the place.
Niccolo' B — Google review
This is the entry for the hike, not the location of the paintings. If you want to see the cave paintings you need to buy the hike entrance ticket, but paintings are very close to the entry point, no need to actually hike.
Thom K — Google review
The story behind this the stone is very interesting but it's only one activity on the way to do the sleeping indian hike which is very recommended. To enter the national park you'll have to pay just $2 and after about 5 minutes walking from staring you get to the stone and get going to the next point after taking some pics.

One of the most iconic and picturesque hikes near El Valle is La India Dormida, also known as the Sleeping Girl. When you gaze at the distant mountains from the town center, a little imagination reveals the outline of a woman resting peacefully. The trailhead is conveniently situated just outside of town, making it an easy walk for adventurers eager to explore this stunning natural landmark.

Serpentario Maravillas Tropicales is a must-visit in Valle de Anton. This sanctuary helps injured animals and releases them back into the wild, but some stay due to survival issues. Visitors can learn about local species and even hold snakes like Lola, the Boa constrictor. The center also offers activities such as bird watching, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and visiting waterfalls like Chorro El Macho and Chorro Las Mosas.
They are doing great work here helping animals likely with no other options. They take care of exotic animals people had as pets. If possible they nurture them to a healthy status and some are able to be released into the wild.
Joel M — Google review
It wasn't a particularly great experience. The animals are in small, rather run-down cages and don't seem particularly happy. The whole place seems to be past its best. Even though it is a sanctuary, we cannot recommend it in this state.

It is not a big place but the tour is very informative and is offered in english too. There are many animals with stories and my favorite is Lola the boa she is very cute and friendly

Diversity of rescued wild animals that live in captivity, the cost for nationals is $4.00 dollars and 6.00 for foreigners, a bit exaggerated I would say for such a short journey but either way I understand they need to survive and feed the animals especially if they haven’t the support of any NGO or the government.

Nice place for a quick 1 hour visit. Priced fairly for the service it provides
Serge K — Google review
Although this is a locally run capture and release facility which is highly appreciate some of the cages, especially the one for the birds are way too small. I think you need to talk Spanish to truly appreciate the work of the caretakers! Variety of snakes that are on exhibit are very interesting.
Panos K — Google review
This is a wild animal refuge. They have a bunch of snakes some of which are not native to Panama but are gifts as the guide says. You get a guide that explains all in Spanish with very little English available. All in all it is a nice little zoo to visit and worth the walk from the center of El Valle

Cerro La Cruz Viewpoint is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to soak in breathtaking vistas. Nestled near Chorro Las Mozas, this easily accessible lookout offers stunning panoramas of the surrounding valley and mountains. Whether you choose to drive or hike, the journey rewards you with spectacular views stretching from the majestic mountains to the lush Anton Valley below. The viewpoint is particularly enchanting at sunset when the landscape transforms into a canvas of colors.
I came here and ended up seeing quite possibly the most amazing view as far as the eye can see. To the west you will see mountains upon mountains until they disappear into the far distance. To the east you will see Anton Valley surrounded by a couple of mountain ranges. And right within those mountains is the border of Cocle and Panama Oeste provinces. By the way, I am not talking about the viewing platform where the large cross resides. Instead, I am referring to the hill above it. This higher viewing area is about two hundred and fifty meters further up the road. You will be met by parking lots on both sides. The walkway from the parking lot to the top of the mountain is about one hundred meters, very inclined and poorly paved so be careful. Once you arrive on top, it will feel like you summited a mountain as you will see far in all directions. The view is truly spectacular. It is very windy so be prepared. Looks like the place doesn't close so you may visit any time of the day or night.
Panama G — Google review
Worth a visit but make sure your car has good breaks as the hill climb is steep and on your way down you will be using a lot of disks. You might want to avoid it if it is raining or it is really windy. Otherwise, I recommend the drive, it is beautiful.
Simo C — Google review
Nice lookout point. Great view of the surrounding. It is located about 10min , by car, outside of town. I would not recommend walking as it is highway with no shoulder, curves and dips up and down the mountain.

Hiking area
The La India Dormida Trailhead offers an exciting adventure for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring a stunning hike that takes approximately 2 to 3 hours round trip. As you make your way up the trail, you'll encounter fascinating petroglyphs—ancient painted stones that add a cultural touch to your journey. To access the trail, there is a small entrance fee, and it's advisable to go with a local guide who can provide insights into the petroglyphs and help navigate the path.
Absolutely a must do hike in this area. 1.5 miles uphill with about 300 m elevation gain. The way back was very muddy and slippery. We considered making it into a loop, but the other way down from the top turned out too slippery for our shoes. My trail running shoes had insufficient grip. The views from the top are absolutely incredible. We did the hike on Dec 31, and the weather cleared up after 3 pm. When foggy, there will be no good views though. Only at the top do you realize the valley is inside a crater of a volcano, and you are sitting on the rim.
Steve Z — Google review
Great hike if you love the outdoors. It took my partner and I around 2 to 2.5 hours to complete it (going up and down). There are other longer trails you can hike that take you to a different ending point than the one you start at. Try not to weigh yourself down with too many things to carry, a small backpack is all right. The entry fee is $3 per person, if I remember correctly. There are vendors along the hiking path that sell beverages as well. I'd recommend going between 07:00 to 14:00, no later. You don't want to get caught going back down the hiking path while the sun is setting and you don't have enough light to see. The hiking path is a bit rough and wet in some areas, so wear shoes with enough grip/traction. There are a few spots where you have to climb rocks, but nothing too crazy. As always in Panama, apply sunscreen and mosquito repellent. The only small complaint I would have is that the trail isn't marked out that great. But the vendors along the way can help direct you or you can just follow along with some of the other people also doing the hike. It was a bit busier than I would have thought, but not so busy that you feel you're constantly surrounded by people.
Samantha L — Google review
Great hike. $3/person if you are a tourist. Trail well maintained by hard working staff. The view at the top is worth the hike. It took our family (with a 9 year old) about 1 hour and 20 mins round trip. Swimming hole near the bottom is nice too.
Chris H — Google review
Starting point for the beautiful La Inda Dormita hike. Ignore the parking mafia — fake parking attendants trying to squeeze a few dollars in parking fees from tourists (parking is actually free) — and head to the entrance, where you pay just a few dollars for admission. The trail is well-marked; some sections are steep, so come prepared with proper footwear. The reward is a stunning view. It can get slippery when it rains.
Arnoud B — Google review
A hike that is a bit hard in one way but easy on the other way. Use the app All trails to start correctly. Do not attempt during a rainy day because you won't have a view and the climb on rocks will be slippery!
Artin — Google review
Beautiful trail of approximately 3 hours (up and down). The path is medium difficult but proper shoes are required (sneakers with good profile will do). Note: there is no clear instruction on where to walk. Just remember to always keep left, even when this feels counterintuitive, check out my photos too of where people are inclined to take the wrong direction. Bring plenty of water and enjoy the rewarding views when you reach the top! It’s gorgeous. Take the same path back as you hiked up
A.E. S — Google review
We made a family trip with 11 and 6 y.o kids. It took us 3 hours to make it round trip. The climb is very steep and you will get 300m elevation in 40minutes than it is better. Awesome view from the top. The circle we made was 3km...
Vítězslav B — Google review
The view form the top is awesome, you get to see clouds passing by, the sunrise or just the view of the valley. The trail is not super well marked so be careful when you climb up not to get lost, like I did 🤪

Beautiful murals, and a well done exhibit of Victoriano Lorenzo himself. Then, outside, a "quinche", depicting a local homestead in the rural area. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took her time explaining many different facets of the museum. And just about the right amount of information. Well worth the visit.

There is not too much to see in this museum, but the museum does provide some interesting history about how El Valle was originally formed and how the area has changed over time. The exhibits are in good shape. Our tour guide was very helpful. If you need a tour in English you might have trouble finding an English speaking guide.

What a wonderful little museum. Upon entering, your guide takes you through each display area and carefully explains every diorama. He also allows you to ask questions, which he cheerfully answers. Visitors can also enjoy guided nature walks and even take a refreshing dip in a natural swimming pool.
Our guide was Ricardo. He was amazing. Eddie was our helper guide and was extremely cautious and safe. We met the owner, Raul, who was also extremely kind and welcoming. The property is being preserved for its natural beauty. The zip lines and hikes are a great way to see it all. We also saw a baby sloth up close!
