Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe is a waterfront restaurant and bar that takes pride in serving locally caught seafood and offering an ample selection of beer and wine. The cafe is known for its commitment to sustainability, sourcing fresh fish, crabs, clams, and oysters from local fishing traditions. They clean all seafood on-site and select vegetables from nearby farms.
Very nice restaurant between Manteo and the barrier island. The place is loud. So, sit accordingly. They have a garden outside that helps with their meals. Check it out. Great views. Our server was Emma and she was fantastic. The food is good. Plenty of local seafood. You can bring in your own catch and they will prepare that for you as well.

My family and I came to OBX for a holiday weekend. We were so excited to eat here after specifically looking for locally owned restaurants with fresh caught fish, and reading about the restaurant and family on the website. First, let me clarify since I’ve seen this brought up in replies by the restaurant: my husband and I love nothing better than fresh caught seafood, and have eaten everywhere from Venice, to Hawaii, to St Lucia, including countless times on the southeast coast of the US. We are not “unaccustomed” to fresh fish’s flavor as the owner suggests on other reviews. The website advertises panoramic views and their outdoor area, and while I may have been confused, it was definitely misleading when we arrived to discover there were no outdoor tables. Still, we figured the food would be good and fresh. We were eating with our 18 month old son with special needs. We had to ask for a high chair for him 3x. We had to ask for a straw for him 2x. I am 3 years sober, and was happy to have found a single mocktail on their lmenu, but when I asked about an unknown ingredient, the waiter told me, “yeah I wouldn’t know” and walked away. We were brought our meals pretty quickly, which was nice, but in my husband’s words, “It looks like it came from a retirement home cafeteria” (pics attached). We both ordered off of the fresh Saturday specials menu (that they posted on their social media that day); mine was yellowtail served with scalloped potatoes and squash and his was tilefish on top of grits…except they weren’t. I was served a gray, watery, undercooked tuna steak with mashed sweet potatoes and sliced pickles and onions sitting in a bowl of vinegar. I didn’t know what my husband ordered, so I asked him if his soup was good, only to discover it wasn’t soup (check the picture). I asked the waiter, “wasn’t this supposed to come with scalloped potatoes?” He said, “I don’t know, did you read the description?” I didn’t have the menu still, so I said nevermind, but when checking it later on their social media, I saw I was right. My husband managed to stomach some bites of his food, and my toddler ravenously ate their fries; I didn’t eat anything. As soon as we got back to our hotel 30 minutes away, my perfectly healthy husband and son had explosive diarrhea. I have IBS and felt perfectly fine, so I guess you can decide for yourself what variables contributed to that. I had hoped for genuine care for the food and location like I’ve experienced at other family owned restaurants, instead we visited a tourist trap that makes garbage fodder. Maybe their fish was fresh caught at one point, but certainly not by the time that it made it to our plates.

Great food. Their flounder was very good. Enjoyed them being open and not packed as others were waiting to get in. Wanted a good seafood place. My kids had chicken of course. Our waiter was overwhelmed some and couldn’t find him when we needed him. That’s why I gave low stars for service. Good and atmosphere was great and even have a little shop inside. Would recommend going.

My family and I were enjoying coffee at Charis Coffee in Manteo while deciding on a place to grab dinner. I asked the local barista where to go and without hesitation he said, "Cedar Cafe". He told us that they had the best chef in the area and served fresh local food which piqued our interest for sure. Another Barista rattled off a few other places that she had to think for a while to list but the gentleman gave solid reasons why not to go to them. So we excitedly went to Basnight's Cedar Cafe. The restaurant was spacious allowing us to have easy conversation. The windows on both sides of the restaurant were viewable from our table and the views were beautiful. Our server was excellent. She was born and raised in the area and had wonderful things to say. When I asked her what she would eat if she were sitting down for dinner, she offered two suggestions without hesitation and I ordered one. The Snowy Grouper was fantastic, the sides were also phenomenal! I loved that they told us who caught the fish that day in the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meal. When we left, we noticed their pesticide free vegetable garden where they grow their own produce to use in their dishes. It doesn't get fresher than that! We look forward to our next visit for sure.

After waiting for only 30 minutes, which is nothing here at the OBX, we were seated at a table by a window. We were greeted by a nice server, but felt rushed to make decisions on what to order. I had a question between two things on the menu, she recommended the entree that was a special (rockfish topped with a crab sauce). The meal was tasteless. My baked potato was not quite baked long enough, and the fish was cooked very well but just was nothing special at all…hardly something I would recommend to someone. The jerk swordfish was good, but the one an only meal we would return for was the shrimp and grits…which I normally don’t care for (consistency thing for me). But they were very good and a large portion of meat. I think we just had an off night because this place came highly recommended by friends. We may try it again some time in the future but not any time soon, with all the other options.
Shelli H — Google review
Fantastic place to eat! Menu was vast and offered really good specials. I had the Flounder stuffed with crab imperial. Food was incredible. Menu even shows the name of the fisherman who caught the fish. Live music was great touch to the bar area. Must visit, but visit early. They open around 4pm

My husband and 12 year old son took a charter this morning and caught their dinner. After calling around for hours we finally found this establishment that would cook their catch. Colton walked in bouncing with joy wearing a smile from ear to ear with his fish in hand. Carolyn recognized him immediately and made a big deal about him catching his own dinner. She went out of her way to share his excitement throughout the restaurant! Then we met Jeff and Stacy (server in training) who continued to share the excitement of Colton’s accomplishments with the fish. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, but the way they made our child feel on top of the world was above and beyond anything we ever expected! We will be back on our trip next year! Highly recommend this restaurant!!!!

Miller's Waterfront Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in Nags Head, offering stunning views of the Roanoke Sound. Specializing in traditional seafood dishes like flounder, scallops, shrimp, oysters, and crab cakes sourced from the Outer Banks waters. The restaurant provides a casual dining atmosphere where patrons can enjoy fish sandwiches, fried baskets, fish tacos as well as burgers and salads for lunch.
All-time favorite restaurant on our visit to the Outer Banks. Our server was incredible, was very well versed on the specials, and the contents of this amazing menu. The appetizers especially the brussel sprouts were great. I personally loved the red peppers that they had in them, they still had enough crunch while still being cooked perfectly. Each of us ordered a different dish and shared amongst ourselves so we all got to taste a bit of everything. I'd recommend the shrimp and grits, the seafood trio, I believe it was called the cart but don't quote me, as I loved the scallops and the crab cake and even though the shrimp wasn't my favorite part of the dish, it was still excellent. The drinks were really good here. We sat and ate downstairs but they also have a beautiful upstairs bar that overlooks the water. It's a gorgeous location and the people that run both the front and back of house are truly wonderful human beings whose skills and hospitality go unmatched . Thank you again for having us and we can't wait to come back and see you again!

This is a beautiful restaurant on the water. We waited about 30 minutes to get seated which was not bad. We ordered drinks at the bar and they were delicious. We ordered hush puppies for an appetizer and they tasted hard and stale with a freezer taste to them. We ordered the crab cake sandwich and chicken dish and the crab cake sandwich was delicious while the chicken was a bit dry. Overall we enjoyed our experience here.

I can see why Miller’s Waterfront Restaurant is such a local favorite! Excellent food, great service, and a beautiful setting. We arrived just in time to watch the sunset over the sound, which made the evening even better. The she-crab soup was incredible, rich and flavorful. The Miller’s house salad was just to my taste: fresh greens with fruit, dried cranberries, walnuts, feta, and a raspberry vinaigrette. I ordered the Trawl Boat dish, which was perfect for sampling: a crab cake, four large scallops, and six shrimp, all cooked to perfection, with mashed red potatoes and mixed squash on the side. My husband loved his scallops (a generous dozen), perfectly broiled. Service was friendly and efficient, and the whole experience felt relaxed and genuine. Highly recommend!

Wow! Love this place!! The atmosphere, especially with the outdoor seating overlooking the sound or upstairs open bar offer fantastic views. The food is also excellent whether you're grabbing lunch or a nice dinner, there are a lot of items to choose from. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional. I highly recommend stopping in for a bite!!

Food was amazing!!! Had the tuna nachos and tempura green beans for appetizers, both were so good. My husband got the mahi caprese sandwich, I had the filet mignon sliders. We loved both our meals and would recommend the filet sliders for a more filling option and the mahi sandwich for a lighter option but both were phenomenal. Our waitresss was so nice and the view can't be beat!

We dined here on our annual group trip. It was a large party of 24 people. The staff and management took very good care of us. Amazing service and delicious food and the sunset view was the cherry on top. We all enjoyed this place and will visit again the next time we are in town. You truly have some new fans Iin Raleigh, NC 🔥💯🔥💯

Little overrated for quality of food. Excellent location. Limited parking lot for size of restaurant. We had to wait a little to get seated. While waiting you can enjoy outdoor patio with live music and good views. We went there for dinner and it was weekend so it was busy. Food however is mediocre. Masa fried soft shell crab was good but everything else had no flavors. Felt like eating over fried food. I am guessing same oil was used over and over. There are much better options in outer banks for good food.

I can’t say enough about this restaurant. The food was delicious, it was so good we had both lunch and dinner during our weekend stay. if they served breakfast, we probably would’ve eaten there again. Can’t wait for the next visit 😋 Tonya Toney eXp Realty Williamsburg

The restaurant prides itself on hospitality, affordability, and creative seafood dishes. Diners are the top priority at Blue Moon, as the staff ensures that those dining in have a pleasant experience without long waits.
There are many dining options in the Outer Banks area. This one stood out as we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes offered! They have a diverse menu, from land and sea to handhelds. The pricing does reflect that of higher end, but it's backed up with the well prepared entrees and presentation. Dining area give a casual and relaxed vibe. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Try visiting early, as peak hours tends to get fairly busy, and may have to wait awhile to get a table. Perfect place to dine for a special occasion, or just enjoy a flavorful meal.

The best food we have had in the Outer Banks. My husband and I were in town for a week, so it was convenient that we could snag seats at the bar. It was lively, but not distracting. The bartender (Alex) was great! Mussels - 10/10 Crab and Pimento Cheese Dip - 8/10 Beef Bulgogi (special) - 10/10 Crab cake - 8/10 ( wish it would have had more of a crust) Spinach and Arugula salad with Shrimp - 10/10 Will go back here every single time we visit the Outer Banks.

Courtney our waitress was excellent! As well as the food. Was the best seafood dinner we have ever had! And that is no exaggeration...😎🎉☄️⛱️👍 We loved every bite and the mussels were amazing! Can't wait to come again! Everyone needs some Blue Moon more than once in a lifetime, Billy Myers

Everyday we drove by lunch time or dinner time, the parking lot was packed. We decided to visit for lunch. The fried calamari was very good & different, served with a lemon butter sauce underneath the crispy calamari. The oyster Rockefeller was also very good with large fresh oysters & fresh spinach covered with breadcrumbs, cheese & sauce. My salad with blackened shrimps was so good. I would order it again. Wife ordered the swordfish & grits with collard greens. Grits were on the sweet side with the Cajun honey sauce. Greens were cooked perfectly. 2 thumbs up!

Bit on the loud side but, it was Saturday lunch/dinner time. Wait was 45 minutes so, we opted to go to the bar instead, where there was no wait to be seated. Were served by the bartender, who was very friendly and efficient. Food was great, portions good but, price was bit on high side. Being that they're basically in a touristy town, we weren't surprised. I got fish & chips, wife got a salad and we both shared Oysters Rockefeller and had diet cokes, since we don't drink alcohol. Food arrived warm, oysters first then our dinners. Totaled @$50 with tip @$6

Our second year visiting the new location... Great yard and patio/deck and very accommodating of our hounds! They'll even do a pup-burger or a chicken breast for your doggos. Excellent food and attentive service, be sure to check the specials (Wahoo Mac!) and don't miss the Mahi-BLT!
Bil S — Google review
Walked in and was told it was a 2-2.5 hour wait ... that was a first. We decided to hang out around the bar and wait for somebody to leave. After about a 30 minute wait, our patience was rewarded. We ordered at the bar and decided to go with three appetizers and split a main course. The brussel sprouts were just delicious. There was a heaping portion and they were cooked perfectly. The Buffalo Shrimp were big and tasty ... I would have preferred a little more heat, but they were tasty. The Oysters Rockefeller were also, very good! We split the Seaside Bucatini. It had scallops, shrimp, artichokes, and grilled tomatoes in a pesto sauce. Really, really good! I think they could figure out a better system for seating, but its a tourist town. You can expect long waits. Can't wait to return to the Blue Moon Beach Grill!

Tortugas Lie is a casual seafood spot and bar in Nags Head, known for its Caribbean cuisine, burgers, and sushi. The restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere and features dishes like skewered shrimp Barbados, St. Martin shrimp, Jamaican jerk beef, and island chips. Additionally, it boasts a beach volleyball court in the backyard where visitors can join competitive-level games during the summer.
We will definitely eat here again. The coco loco chicken was delicious, juicy, and tender. Fish tacos did not disappoint. Many large chunks of mahi in each taco. The black beans were cooked perfectly. We weren't terribly impressed with the white pizza sampler, but the rest of the meal made up for it. We usually take some food home for later, but everyone cleaned their plates. We bought a round for the kitchen!

We got there as they opened as we were the first ones there and the line was long to get in so I’m glad we got there early. Shout out to our server Holly, who took good care of us. I highly recommend the steamed clams and the clear broth clam chowder was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. These guys went above and beyond they had no way of knowing we had just arrived from Charlotte, and they were probably close to closing. But they still served our table friday night. The food was delicious. the best crab cakes i've had in a very long time, and our waiter was sweet and very hardworking! If you want good vibe and great food, I definitely recommend this place. 👌
Bianca V — Google review
We stopped here mainly due to its featured Caribbean islands flavored cuisine. Many different handheld sandwiches are also offered as well. Although the Jerked dishes were nicely done, we felt that the Jerked sauce/spice used lacked heat/spiciness, like it's missing the "It" factor. The staff was friendly and helpful. The interior decor was mainly island themed. You can choose to dine in either indoor or outdoor settings. So if you haven't had a chance to try out Caribbean cuisine, this may be a good place to start.

Our favorite Outer Banks restaurant! Have been coming for three summers and it’s delicious every time. Great vibe, great food, great drinks. We have had the Painkiller and Lost Tortugas for drinks, quinoa salad and Swiss jerk burger. Everything tastes good, food comes out fast, the restaurant has fish tanks the kids love watching the fish swim around. Highly recommend - note it can be a long wait at times so plan your timing accordingly

I looked up gluten free restaurants in the area, and discovered this restaurant. When we arrived it looked packed from the outside, but was pleased to discover that we got a seat quickly. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. The staff was extremely helpful and our server was very knowledgeable about gluten free choices. Our food was delicious. We would definitely dine here again when we are in the area.

We arrived around 8:00 on a Thursdsy night. We put our name in for first available seats at the bar or a table. Meanwhile we had a drink at the timing bar in back. There was live music, which was nice. We ended up at the end of the bar next to the merch. It was pretty hectic, but I said first available. My partner ordered the special which was blackened tuna with goat cheese and pineapple salsa. It was perfectly cooked medium rare and was delicious. I went simple and ordered a bacon cheeseburger with extra crispy fries. The burger was juicy and flavorful and my fries were exactly what I wanted ... super crispy and salty! Tortugas Lie was an excellent choice. Kind of a beach dive bar with great food! I will be back!!!

Fish Heads Bar & Grill in Nags Head is a charming waterfront pub located at a fishing pier, offering a pet-friendly atmosphere and mesmerizing views. This rustic establishment provides a quintessential Outer Banks dining experience with outstanding seafood dishes and cozy outdoor decks. Visitors can enjoy locally-sourced seafood, live music, and cold drinks while taking in the breathtaking ocean views. The restaurant's standout dish is the exceptional fish and chips, which has earned praise for its delicious flavor and reasonable pricing.
Great food and atmosphere, right on the pier! Really cool place on the pier with seating inside or out. Tons of beer options. There’s also wines and some mixed drinks. Service is really friendly. Just a great beach vibe!

Amazing atmosphere. One of our favorite places to have lunch every year. The happy hour shrimp and fish tacos are outstanding. Can’t beat the ocean breeze and cold beer! The staff are excellent and friendly. Highly recommended Fish Heads. FYI…Parking can be difficult at times, so we walk.

Don't turn into the parking lot! Park on the median on the right just before you turn in. The lot is angled parking with no outlet. It makes for some challenging driving when you have your crew of people. Park along the road before you get in. Okay now to the place...its awesome! They have a ton of outdoor seating but like today it was too windy to accommodate so they had everyone inside. Its a great busy beach bar. Plenty of beer options. They have seating that can accommodate larger parties it seems. Wait time is about 15-30 mins on busy times. No dogs allowed on the pier. Photos are of the coconut shrimp basket and the crab cake sandwich. Both were awesome. The shrimp came out steaming hot! The crab cake was amazing. My partner got the fish sandwich, I didn't get a photo but I swear they put both fillets on the sandwich.

Fish Heads remains the best bar and grill in OBX. The food is incredible and very reasonably priced. Best Tuna bites I have ever had, and it's really hard to beat their happy hour deal shrimp buckets! For beer lovers, they have the widest selection of craft beer I've seen at a beach bar. On top of that, they have live music most nights and a great staff. If you get there and have to wait, don't worry, there is a side bar right outside the main entrance so you can order select beers and drinks while you wait! It is a quintessential must stop every year.

Best waterfront bar atmosphere. Food ranges from simple (hotdogs) to delicious (medium rare ahi sandwich). Huge draft selection—no hard liquor on premises. Beautiful day, the water was amazing! As usual, service was great. Note: they are closed Monday/Tuesday.

Enjoyed lunch in scenic environment. Food was hot and fresh. Staff was very fast and accommodating. Weather was windy but was able to eat away from conditions. Enjoyed watching the fishing from the pier too!

Ok, the food was ok. Hamburger was a frozen variety. Not bad but not fresh. The fries were some of the best I've had in awhile. Someone in that kitchen knows what to do to potatoes. My wife's bbq nachos would have been better if all the chesse hadn't been on the bottom of the plate. Again they weren't bad, just all the chesse made the bottom chips soggy. The waitress was good. It should be noted that we ate during a downpour. She still checked on us regularly. THE highlight of this place is being able to eat while looking out over the ocean. It is the coollest thing. Great views. It makes this place worth a try.

Great place to stop and grab a bite before heading out to the beach. The kids loved the special kids drinks that came with special surprises. The food had amazing flavors and was definitely worth the stop.

Hands down, THE BEST CRAB CAKES I've ever had. Which sucks for the place I went to two days later, where I ordered crab cakes... 🦀 I don't know how I could ever find better ones. Id be remiss if I didn't comment on their damn jerk seasoning... Holy grilled jerk shrimp 🍤!!! The rest of the food was quite amazing as well, and despite ordering fresh crab cakes, I underspent from my budget. I shall return if I'm back to the area!

Awesome service and lip smackin' good food! The staff were extrenely attentive and we never had to ask for anything! 🙏The stuffed japps were to die for! Super hot and tasty😋The kids menu is super friendly and has something there for every kiddo and even a funky drink for them! The shrimp were HUGE! 🙌 We highly recommend!

Great atmosphere with beachy vibes. Super friendly staff with great service. We all got burgers & enjoyed them. Food came out hot! Will be back!

Just walk thru and go outside! NO WAIT! Unless it’s full, the outside seating is best for larger groups. Bar is awesome for 2-3 people. The staff is always fantastic and friendly. Been here multiple times and is always a go to. This is not an Applebees or chain atmosphere. If you want that, stay away. It’s way better. Thanks Bonzer, great as always!

It was our first time at the Bonzer Shack. Needless to say it won't be our last. I took my husband out for his birthday on our last night in OBX and our meals were amazing! The drinks were perfect and our bartender Victoria or Veronica ( sorry I can't remember the name...her drinks were too good) is amazing! She was so friendly and fast. My husband and I are both in the industry and we loved that you could buy a round for the kitchen!

this place is awesome. the beach vibes are off the charts and i love it! i got a mango mocktail and it was really good, but it kinda took a while which is reasonable because it was pretty busy. i got the queso steak tacos which have this unexplainable flavor in the seasoning which i think everyone should try. overall, the service food and atmosphere is great. like this post and follow me to take down dan deibler. (just kidding he’s a good guy but i need to have more followers than him)

Seafood market
Austin Fish Co. is a seafood market that is located next to Jockey's Ridge State Park and within walking distance of Kitty Hawk Kites' flagship location. The market has a small number of picnic tables that can be used for seating, but the bulk of the space is devoted to displaying unpacked fishmongers' wares on ice.
Good prices, a large variety of different fish, shellfish, crabs and steamers + more!. Out of all the seafood markets this one seemed to have have the best prices and good quality looking meat. They were super nice and double bagged our take-home fish and crab legs for our long travel. I would recommend to anyone looking for cooked or uncooked seafood around the area. One last way to experience the Outer Banks from home, thanks!
Justin G — Google review
Always stop here for fresh fish and seafood. Today was for lunch. Fried shrimp had more than enough shrimp along with 3 delicious hush puppies and my choice of Cole slaw and potato salad. The potato salad was perfect. So creamy and tasty. The other meal was fried grouper fingers with French fries and coleslaw. Plenty of fish, in fact, brought fish and shrimp home as left overs. Hush puppies may be small but they have a huge flavor and fresh corn in batter makes them heavenly
Shari R — Google review
Great food. We ended up getting a couple of the grouper fingers platters with either french fries, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. We also had the fried shrimp platter. Everything was fresh and delicious. Folks are nice and friendly. We ate at the picnic tables outside. They also had keylime pies. The shrimp and Andouille sausage was the best.
Tom S — Google review
Austin Seafood never disappoints. The staff is always friendly, and they serve some of the best fish sandwiches you’ll find anywhere. To top it off, the hush puppies are absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this spot. It’s also reasonably priced, which is a pleasant surprise—especially compared to other places in the Outer Banks that are often overcrowded. Here, you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere without the long waits. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing fresh or raw fish to go, Austin Seafood delivers a consistently great experience

1000000/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone. We vacation here and were recommended this shop by so many. I completely understand why so many love this place. The people here were more than outstanding, I cannot thank them enough. I came in looking to pack a cooler of fresh fresh to cook after some travel. They not only gave me great recommendations, but also packed the cooler for me! He even was going to carry it out and load it up for me. I adored the above and beyond customer service! Clean, prompt, helpful, & very friendly! I believe the gentleman was Buster. Such an amazing guy!

When we visit the Outer Banks we always stop here for fresh seafood and softshell crab sandwiches! Love this place!

This place is a treasure! Hands done some of the best fish I have ever had. We bought multiple types from them to cook at home and WOW, so yummy. We also got some boiled shrimp from them to go. I don't usually even like shrimp, but this shrimp was completely different from what I usually experience. The shrimp tasted fresh, not fishy at all, and had a great texture. On top of having fantastic fish, they have some wonderful customer service. We live 5 hours away. When we got home, we realized that our wahoo had been priced as the more expensive grouper. It was an honest mistake as we had also bought grouper. I called the store and Buster got it sorted right away. They mailed me a check for the difference! Hard to find customer service like that these days. Would recommend this place to anybody. I wish we lived closer!

This was absolutely the highlight meal of our trip. We got the Mermaid Delight boil to go and it was perfectly prepared and sooo much food! We actually ate it for 2 meals. It was so delicious! Several people commented it was the best crab and lobster they’ve ever had. The clams were perfect for me. Definitely call to order early in the day, we almost missed out. We will definitely do this every time we come down!

The menu features breakfast sandwiches, pastries, bagels, and health-conscious choices such as gluten-free and vegetarian options.
Our sandwiches were so very good and fresh. And the Chai tea latte with raspberry was delish! Although they were closing at 2pm, people continued to enter and order, and the staff were very kind and friendly. We highly recommend!!

Came here twice during our vacation to the outer banks. Smoothies are plenty big and can be split into two cups ($1 upcharge) and was a hit with my kids. The hot Eddie breakfast bagel was so good with just a hint of spicy. The hubs enjoyed a classic with the walkover bagel. I also enjoyed a couple different iced lattes(Hawaiian mocha and coffee cake), but did ask for it to be slightly less sweet. It's a really cute coffee shop with plenty of space to sit. Would definitely revisit!
Brittany B — Google review
Modern deli, coffee shop, brew pub with incredible food and drink and great selection. Can get super busy on turn days and prices are super high but probably tracks with what most people are used to if coming in on vacation from major metro areas. Friendly staff and kid friendly.
Forrest C — Google review
Super cute place to stop for lunch or breakfast. Food and coffees were amazing. It was packed for breakfast but line moved quickly and food and drink came out quickly based on how many people were there. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. On a less busy day it would be a nice place to get coffee and work in one of the lounge tables.

Good stuff all the way around. Counter service and then you pick up your food in a cubby when it's ready. Plenty of seating in various types of chairs and set ups. Plenty of things to buy while you are waiting for your order. Nice selection of craft beers to take to go.

This place is a powerhouse. Truly, how can you beat a place that makes some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had (Hot Eddie: 10/10), serves 12 beers on draft starting at 7AM, and offers 32oz nitro cold brews. As well, the local crafts and beer/wine to go offers a variety of ways to indulge yourself.

Seafood market
Whalebone Seafood Market is a must-visit spot in the Outer Banks for fresh, locally sourced seafood. The market offers a daily selection of tuna, shrimp, scallops, crabs, clams, oysters, and more. You can also take out steamed shrimp and crabs or opt for homemade salads and marinades to prepare your own seafood dinner. The selection changes daily based on the morning catch brought in by Whalebone's fishermen who ensure top quality and freshness.
Just wanted to give a shout out to Whalebone Seafood Market. We were on a quick trip from Virginia via the Outer Banks back home to Charlotte. My husband wanted to take home some blue crabs since they are hard to get back home. He stopped by Whalebone’s to see if he could get them, and of course they had them, and could pack them for our trip home. They went the extra mile to not only steam them right away, they put them in our cooler with more enough ice to ensure they were safe for the long trip. The crabs were perfect and my husband is a happy man. Thanks Whalebone Seafood Market for making my husband happy!
Mike W — Google review
Kids & husband loved it! The pictures show 2 1/2 lb of Snow Crab clusters, "bucket" of corn, tray of cornbread. For reference: son 13yo daughter 15yo + husband and it was a dinner with corn and a couple legs left over. Could easily feed family of 4. Enjoy!
L S — Google review
Whalebone Seafood Market was incredibly clean, and the service was very quick and friendly. Was able to get a little over a pound of large shrimp for $20. This store also carries many sauces and has dessert options. Would recommend for any of your seafood needs.

As Upstate New Yorkers who vacation annually in the Outer Banks, we've tried many local fish markets over the years—but Whalebone Seafood Market is hands down the best. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to offer recommendations or help you find exactly what you need. Their service is top-notch, and they go above and beyond by cleaning and preparing your fish just the way you want it. What really sets Whalebone apart is the freshness of their seafood. The Southern Style oysters are packed with flavor, and their tuna is some of the best we've ever grilled. The soft shell crabs are another favorite—perfectly tender and delicious on the grill. Don't miss it when you're in OBX!
Elisabeth D — Google review
Spent a week at a beach house right next to whalebone. Stopped to look around and they had a great selection of seafood. Decided to make some shrimp tacos and got three pounds of 26-30 count shrimp. They deveined and cleaned them for me quickly. You could truly tell how fresh they were. They also had little neck clams that I’d get to make linguine/clam sauce. On Tuesday, they had a wine tasting. Overall, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Even got a shirt there. Highly recommended

Love this place! Perfect place to get seafood then take back to your house. We order a lot of seafood from here every time we are in the outer banks. Have never been disappointed.
Nate S — Google review
We have been getting seafood steamers from here for years and we’re really happy in the past. Not only have the prices gone up the quantity of food and quality has gone done. We got the Whalebone and it only came with 2 crab legs. Everything was overcooked where the tuna, scallops and sausage were barely eatable. It’s supposed to feed 4 people and cost $260 before the fees they charge you on top of this. And they didn’t even give us cornbread with it like that have in the past. We will definitely have to reconsider where we get our boil next year if this is the new standard :(

The Fresh Market is a high end grocery store on the Outer Banks with an old world vibe. They offer local produce, prepared eats and wine. The store is packed full of healthy specialty items as well as a variety of packaged food items including plastic clam shell packaging that can be replaced with more environmentally friendly options.
I shop here all the time. I checked out the deli case for the first time today...the fresh offerings are fresh and amazing. I got the tuna salad + cucumber salad. Andrew the deli manager was so very helpful and accommodating in helping me make my choices. So fresh and delicious, I stopped in the section they have with tables and chairs to enjoy. Thank you Andrew, best lunch...fresh and delicious. I will do this again!

First time shopping here. The Fresh Market is so clean and organized, the food was just amazing. Everything is so fresh and appealing to the eye. Being a first timer I did need a little help finding a few things. Employees are amazing, a young lady who was stocking was so helpful I wish I had gotten her name. I will definitely shop here again. If you like fresh food and have never shopped here you should definitely stop in, you will be glad you did.

This store is absolutely beautiful. Wine selection is huge and stunning. If you want to host a party with a charcuterie board, there is no better place to shop. Coffee selection is also incredible. Prices are pretty high, but the store is so clean, healthy, and atmospheric it seems worth it. Staff is friendly and its a nice experience. Definitely recommend especially if you’ve never been here before!

What can I say about this store? It’s amazing! You forget you’re at the beach with all the hustle and bustle of summer season outside those walls. I had an order for condolence flowers to deliver today. The store was busy and there was no one at the floral department. They only had two registers open and they did have lines but wait time was short. I asked the cashier for assistance. She was pleasant, efficient and professionally requested assistance for me over the intercom. A very nice young man named Riley came up eager to help. I showed him the request from my client asking for roses to be wrapped in pretty paper with a sympathy card attached. Riley was fast and did an amazing job. Found the card and even wrote the note on it for me. They were beautiful!!! He was definitely the shining star 🌟 in my order today!!! Thanks again Riley and Fresh Market Y’all rock the OBX

This store is very nice, super clean, eclectic selection and high quality, but it is very expensive. I think they might have some good sales that I just missed, but the day I went there really wasn't much on sale. However, if you're looking for some alternate, healthier brands, then this might be the place for you. The staff is also very nice and super helpful. Had to give it a "4" due to the prices.

Nestled in the Pirates Quay Shopping Center, just a stone's throw from the Outer Banks YMCA, Greentail’s Seafood Market and Kitchen is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. This charming spot not only supports local fishermen but also offers an impressive array of fresh seafood that changes daily based on availability. From succulent shrimp and salmon to delectable soft-shell crabs and fish baskets, there's something to satisfy every palate.
I don’t have any good pictures because we clobbered it all! I’m an ENC seafood snob and this did not disappoint. We tried poke, grouper sandwich, shrimp poboy, blue crab hush puppies, and smoked fish dip. Fast, hot, fresh and delicious! We’ll be back to try Proof Bakery too after the awesome rolls on the sandwiches here.

We had a great late lunch at Greentail’s! Run like a family style market and small restaurant- they serve while they have the fresh fish available. We had excellent black drum. With potatoes and vegetables the meal was $16.95. Terrific price and service for fresh fish! Highly recommend!

Wow, so fresh & so good. Huge portions & reasonable prices. We got the fried grouper sandwich, largest ever & delicious with the sauce, lettuce, bacon & brioche buns. The seared tuna bowl with broccoli, red potatoes & carrots was unique & delicious. The coconut red curry soup was perfection. A must visit if you’re in the Outer Banks area.

Went for a quick lunch with my wife. Ordered the shrimp fried rice and fried grouper sandwich special. Very generous portion of fish. Everything was so fresh and delicious. 2nd best fried rice I've had in my 40+ years. 1st best shrimp fried rice. Can't wait to go back next time we're down for a visit. Seafood market options looked great too.

Amazing! Deal with the lines, and cramped dining area, and go get whatever they are serving!! They are doing everything fresh, with quick, amazing, service with a smile! They will sell out of what you may want, so decide on two options, because you will not go wrong with either. Impressed with the portion size of everything, and quality of the breads that the sandwiches are served on. We were impressed, and we will definitely be back!! Hidden gem but probably not for long.

My son and I stopped at Pamlico Jacks on New Year's Eve after an amazing full-day of fishing out of Oregon Inland. We initially stopped at Owens, but the wait was over an hour. We decided to try Pamlico Jacks, which had less than five active tables. The fried seafood platter was tasty, although it would be better to place the sides in separate dishes. The veggies and mashed potatoes made the fried seafood soggy, which isn't appetizing. The server was especially pleasant and efficient, and the hostesses were very pleasant, too. Also, the men's room was the cleanest restroom of any restaurant that I've ever seen.
BMF — Google review
My family and I went here with some extended family. The sea food entrees are more expensive than you'd appreciate if you're taking out multiple people, but I got a burger since I hadn't been satisfied with my recent seafood experiences. They cooked it to past well done and forget the toppings that are included with the burger. Other than my experience the food is solid, no one else had any complaints and were very happy with them. The service is par and the environment outside is very nice, but the interior looks dated. I wouldn't take young children, but overall it's a typical tourist restaurant

Beautiful sunset on the sound. Enjoyed live music, great food. Waitress was ok. She forgot flatware and when we requested extra napkins with our appetizers, she came across as rude, saying all she had was cocktail style napkins. Still a great experience with family while vacationing on the Outer Banks

Kelly's Outer Banks Catering has been a beloved staple in Nags Head for over three decades, renowned for its seafood-centric American menu and inviting atmosphere. This cherished establishment not only highlights the rich culinary heritage of the area but also emphasizes fresh, local ingredients sourced from nearby waters. With a commitment to supporting local businesses, Kelly's offers an array of family-style meals and individual options that cater to various tastes.
Planning a weeklong large family reunion can be stressful, but Kelly's OBX Catering made our nightly dinners easy and super yummy! They have a robust menu that included multiple vegetarian options to make it easy to plan diverse menus for a whole week's vacation. The food was amazing and kept our entire 40-person family happy and well-fed. Every meal was delivered on time and hot, thanks to the hot box use and our amazingly charming and sweet delivery guy, Mike. Our favorites were the lasagna, fried chicken, hushpuppies, taco bar, and fried & sauteed shrimp. The sweet potato biscuit add-on is a must!! I would highly recommend Kelly's to anyone that is ready to hit the easy button while on vacation.
Nikki T — Google review
We hired Kelly’s for the Friday night dinner before our son’s wedding in Kitty Hawk, and they absolutely exceeded every expectation. It was a gathering for our out-of-town guests and the bride’s family, and Kelly’s made it feel like a true celebration from start to finish. The food was phenomenal — perfectly fried chicken, tender pulled pork, creamy mac and cheese, delicious crab puffs, and fresh grilled veggies. The shrimp were a huge hit, and everyone was raving about the key lime pie (honestly one of the best we’ve ever had!) and the rich, fudgy brownies. The Kelly’s team was professional, friendly, and wonderfully accommodating. They made everything seamless so we could simply relax and enjoy time with family and friends. The setup was beautiful, the service was smooth, and the food—simply unforgettable. We can’t thank Kelly’s Catering enough for helping kick off our wedding weekend with such warmth and flavor. Five stars all the way!

If you're looking for a delicious and easy way to feed a large group, check out Kelly's! MaryAnn and the entire team were wonderful. Ordering was easy (with her offering great advice), the food was hot and ready on time, the team at the location pick up were so hospitable, and everyone loved the meal (esp. the fried chicken!). Kelly's is the perfect way to feed a large group with zero stress. I highly recommend them!

I recently booked Kelly's for my wedding reception, and the food was outstanding! Not to mention, the customer service is top tier, the employees who delivered the food were so kind and helpful. Two of my favorite menu items were the spinach puff pastry and the crab cakes - seriously, the crab cakes are to die for, especially with the remoulade. I was planning a wedding from out of state, so it was very stressful, but Kelly's was so helpful in easing any concerns I felt. If you need to have an event catered, choose Kelly's!

We have 18 people in our large extended family staying at a large rented home in Kill Devil Hills. MaryAnn at Kellys helped me get the 1st 3 nights of dinners orchestrated and ordered. Some of our group needed gluten free. MaryAnn was able to assist with the menu to be sure. The food came to us promptly at the time we requested, it was put out on our kitchen island, hot and ready to eat. We did a taco night the 1st night, 2nd night chicken, pulled pork, many sides and goodies, the 3rd night we had the Seafood boil. All of the meals were delicious and leftovers were all eaten by the end of our 6 day stay in the OBX. The delivery people were very friendly and did a great job with set up so we could all dig in right away! Thank you Kellys for the great meals!

Just got back from our week long trip to OBX and we are so happy we went with Kelly’s to cater 5 nights worth of dinners for 8 adults. The food was delicious and the deliveries were always on time! The food came hot and ready to go, serving utensils were also provided! Not having to worry about what was for dinner each night and who is doing the cooking/cleanup, was amazing and made our vacation even that more enjoyable. Thank you Kelly’s for everything! We will be sure to use you again on our next visit to the Outer Banks!
Jenna J — Google review
Easy, Great Food, and amazing communication! The only complaint was we didn't order enough hush puppies! ;) This was our best day on vacation. We all were able to relax at the beach longer not worrying about dinner that night for the whole family. The kids and adults all were happy with the food and convenience. We will absolutely do this as a new tradition when in the OBX!

We used Kelly's Catering for a "Families Night Before the Wedding Gathering" Labor Day weekend. Mary Ann at Kelly's was easy and helpful to work with as we crafted the heavy appetizer menu. All menu items were delivered right on time via 2 outstanding staff. The food was attractively presented on disposable trays and platters. All items were delicious, and received a multitude of compliments by our guests. Kelly's was the most responsive when we shopped caterers, most other OBX Caterers were not. Highly recommend Kelly's for your catered event. BTW, Kelly's Restaurant was our go to dining out meal each summer in the OBX from the early 90's to about 2008.
