Noodle shop
Xieng Thong Noodle is a popular food spot located near the beautiful Xieng Thong Temple in Laos. It serves a delicious bowl of khao piak sen, featuring thick rice noodles, pork, bean sprouts, and spring onion in a mild salty broth topped with crispy roasted garlic. The place is known for its authentic, cheap, and limited menu that includes noodles with pork or egg. Despite being well-known, some visitors feel it may not live up to the hype.
If you are visiting Wat Xieng Thong, do consider stopping by for a food stop. As what other reviewers have pointed out, there are only three items on the menu, ranging from 12000kip to 14000kip. This shop sells noodle soup and you can decide on your combination of pork or eggs to go with the noodles. The noodles are made of tapioca starch and are very chewy. The fried garlic also adds so much flavour to the dish. If you get the version with egg, the egg is mixed into your soup which makes it more wholesome.
Samuel S — Google review
Nice little shop, need to wait for lunch peak hour. Only one kind of noodle, with combination of pork and egg, then big/small size, very simple choice. Soup taste is pretty good though it looks not that clear; the noodle is soft, smooth. Spicy seasoning is pretty nice and the little lemon add a nice fresh to the noodle. Egg is very fresh, pork a bit too hard to bite. Worth to take a try for Lao's food.
Jenny T — Google review
Yummy noodles. The noodles are similar to the popular mouse-tail noodles but softer. The chilli paste is hot so add sparingly. Great price and the servings fill the stomach well.
Alex N — Google review
It is fifty-fifty. The price is very cheap, but the quantity of noodles is small and a little salty. The restaurant is adjacent to the main road so it is easy to find. The menu is explained in several languages, making ordering easy. You can try khao bbiyak (Lao noodle) with a pork, beef and egg. Also there is khao khop (fried sticky rice).
Jihee L — Google review
Comfort food for Asians. Menu is simple, 3 choices. There are Japanese and Korean menus, too. This bowls was only 14k. Some local people were eating here when I came 12pm, no tourists.
Meg W — Google review
Authentic, cheap and delicious. As with most good local food places in SE Asia, the menu is limited. Noodles with pork, egg, or pork and egg. Enough English is spoken there to get by, and the owners are very friendly. Cannot recommend enough.
James C — Google review
A gem off the beaten path. Even with google, it took us quite a walk to find it, but it was worth it. We had the pork with egg for 14000 kip, and the broth was nice, enhanced by the fried garlic. The short noodles were chewy, and you are given taugeh shoots and lime to top off the dish. We were the only tourists there for lunch.
Steven L — Google review
Delicious and cheap breakfast noodles, all freshly made on the day. Well worth stopping by early to get an authentic Laos breakfast. Help yourself to the free rice cakes.

Market
The Luang Prabang morning market is a vibrant and bustling place where local vendors sell an array of goods, including fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and handmade textiles. Visitors can immerse themselves in the cultural richness by exploring traditional Lao garments, marveling at intricate Hmong embroidery, and admiring crafts from hill tribes.
Very local and touristy market at the same time. We liked to pickup some sticky rice with some barbecue grilled meat, sausages and eat at a coffee stall right in the middle of the market. If we ever come back to Luang Prabang and stay at an Airbnb with kitchen, I’d not miss the chance to go to this fresh market and cook Lao dishes, the herbs and veggies here were just mind blowing. Things we tried and liked: mungbean cake, coconut crepe, seaweed floss with sticky rice, Lao sausage, fermented pork, some sweet dessert dipped in coconut flakes, coconut milk dessert Things we tried and didn’t like: grilled banana (too dry), bee wax (might be good as ingredient to cook but eaten just bee wax like this was…meh), croissant (curious to try but it was a no go 😂)
Tam L — Google review
Strolling around and try the sticky rice, bamboo shot local curry, mixed vegetables salad Luang Prabang recipe is amazing for me. Seeing way of folk life and chit chat to them is such a lovely.
Susan P — Google review
If you want a real taste of local life in Luang Prabang, you’ve got to check out the Morning Market. We went super early—around 7am—and it was the perfect way to jump-start the day. You’ll see everything from fresh produce to surprises you definitely don’t see back home (we spotted some Sapa fish split wide open and even a skinned weasel…wild stuff!).It’s mostly for locals, so you get that authentic vibe—lots of sights, smells, and a few things that will totally throw you off in a good way. We picked up some coffee and wandered the stalls for a while, and honestly, it’s a must if you want to see the real rhythm of Luang Prabang. Just bring your curiosity (and maybe skip breakfast until you get here)!

Must see if you’ve never been to a wet market without the odors of a standard wet market. With cooked food, vegetables, fruit, to freshly caught fish/birds and larvae, this is a great way to see how the locals do their shopping. Oct 2024
Linda M — Google review
Very local market. Interesting to see how the local people shop for food and necessities. It is open dairy. If you have a weak stomach, pass this by.
David L — Google review
Loved it!! We went around 6am and it was mostly locals buying fruits and vegetables. There are some prepared foods, and the spring roll we got was SO delicious. Lots of raw meats and fresh produce. Some curries, fried foods, street meat, etc. Overall a big vibe, would recommend.
Cassia A — Google review
So may various foods and stuffs here. you can enjoyed with the local market.

Nice market to visit after the Alms ceremony. Fresh fish, meats, fruits, spices, teas and more. A nice walk, nice vibrant atmosphere and then we stopped at a coffee shop and enjoyed the view.

Laotian restaurant

Tamarind is a unique establishment in Laos that serves as both a restaurant and a cooking school. Founded by an Australian woman and her Lao partner, Tamarind aims to offer visitors an exotic experience while educating them about Laotian cuisine. The restaurant sources ingredients from local suppliers, contributing to the community while introducing guests to the wonders of Lao food.
They offer very good dishes and above average hospitality. Due to budget limit, I ordered 3 dishes, fish in banana, sticky rice and sweet sticky rice with banana, mango and tamarind sauce. They all tasted good and well- cooked in new way. I would love to cook these dishes back home.
Tran — Google review
food was authentic and tasted very good, we took the bamboo soup and a set sharing menu for two of us, was all delicious. nice ambiance, and excellent service. We liked a lot the bamboo chips and the laolao rice whisky, we tried three flavors! The chilly one is great! Haha we like spicy. We preferred the table inside because there was not much to see and enjoy along the street. I definitely recommend this place. And we would come back to try also other dishes too.
Francesca Y — Google review
We went for lunch, wanted to try a little bit of everything so went with a tasting menu - some of it really good, some not for my taste. Service was excellent and the tamarind drink was definitely interesting. We liked the mango sticky rice with black rice the best
Sreelakshmi — Google review
We had a fantastic evening at Tamarind Restaurant, where we chose to try the vegan tasting menu. It was an excellent decision. The dishes were all incredibly fresh and vibrant, and it was clear that each one had been prepared with great care and attention to detail. The generous use of fresh, local herbs made every bite a delight. The entire experience was enhanced by the wonderful service. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain each dish and its traditional Laotian context. This guidance added an authentic layer to the meal, showing us not just what to eat, but how to eat it. Tamarind offers a perfect blend of authentic Laotian cuisine, high-quality ingredients, and outstanding service. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly memorable meal in Luang Prabang.

I like this restaurant and I came here 3 times during visiting Luang Prabang. The restaurant serve the traditional Laotian foods and very unique. Full of favourites and very tasty. We ordered Bamboo soup and Som moo sour pork and it was fantastic 😋 highly recommend. The only dish that I would avoided is Stir fried Basil leaf with Frog 🐸 if you don't eat a whole Frog. It was not just a Frog's legs but the whole body of Frog's with skin. The staff was so friendly and he said Laos people eat the whole Frog. We came again to try another dishes and the staff gave us a house dessert.
Curvy K — Google review
The best restaurant we visited in Luang Prabang! All the food and drink we tried (we ordered the vegan set) was absolutely delicious, an explosion of different flavours and really big portions. The service was super attentive, explained all the dishes and how to eat them. We got the impression that they really cared about bringing Laotian food culture to tourists. We also booked a cooking class with them which was a fantastic experience as well! Can only recommend❤️

If you truly want to experience authentic Lao foods and if you aren’t afraid of unusual flavors and ingredients and textures, try Tamarind. I love to experiment and explore all things new in every country I visit, so I sought out Tamarind. Be brave! Try it yourself.

Was recommended to try this place for Lao food. Food was for the most part very palatable and earthy - good use of local produce. Got the tasting platter, buffalo laap. Complimentary bamboo chips were very interesting.

Flea & Street Markets
Luang Prabang Night Market is a vibrant and bustling hub of local culture, offering an array of remarkable handicrafts and traditional Lao garments. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry as they browse through finely woven textiles, intricate wooden creations, authentic pottery, delicate silver jewellery, and vibrant silk scarves. The market also boasts a variety of delectable street foods and local specialties like the renowned Luang Prabang sausage.
Prices for the same items are nearly the exact same at all the shops. Items aren’t all that expensive so you could bargain if you are really short on cash, but otherwise it’s good to help the locals, it’s all relatively inexpensive anyways. It’s a good night market for souvenir hunting. Shirts, handmade goods, local food and whiskey. Many options to choose from
B — Google review
The market is nice and clean. Nobody was forcing me to buy stuff from them. So even if i am just looking they are ok with that. Which is the best thing trust me. Mostly there are crafts and local things you can buy from here. A good place to spend your evenings. Lots of cafes and bars to enjoy dinner
Deepti G — Google review
Nice night market. Will take you around 10-15 minutes to get through it. There is a wide range of products in the market, at the end there's a food court with different types of food 🙂 Locals do not pressure you as much as other places to buy their products.
Aidan M — Google review
Certainly! The Luang Prabang Night Market is one of the highlights of any visit to this charming UNESCO town. Every evening, the main street transforms into a lively and colorful walking street filled with hundreds of stalls selling handcrafted goods, delicious local food, and unique souvenirs. What makes this market special is its laid-back atmosphere and strong focus on local culture. Many of the vendors are artisans from nearby villages, offering beautiful handwoven textiles, traditional wood carvings, and silver jewelry. It’s a great place to find authentic Lao crafts while supporting local communities. The food section is a real treat — tucked away in a side alley, you’ll find an array of affordable and tasty Lao dishes like grilled meats, noodle soups, fresh spring rolls, and tropical fruit smoothies. Everything is cooked fresh, and the variety is impressive. The market is well-organized, clean, and easy to walk through. It’s not overwhelming like some markets in Southeast Asia, which makes the experience more enjoyable. Prices are reasonable, and friendly bargaining is welcomed. Overall, the Luang Prabang Night Market is more than just a place to shop — it’s a vibrant cultural experience. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, trying street food, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, this market captures the soul of Luang Prabang beautifully. Highly recommended for: ✔️ Cultural lovers ✔️ Foodies ✔️ Anyone who enjoys browsing local markets in a relaxed, friendly setting
Savon V — Google review
Plenty of food options and lots of cute stalls to explore. Some items in the crafts market may feel a bit overpriced, but considering the craftsmanship and effort from local artisans, it feels fair and well worth supporting.
Shri V — Google review
I liked the night market visually, nicely lit and quite long. I would have appreciated the food the most, because the products did not impress me much. T-shirts with elephant outfits and small wallets for documents. But overall a nice atmosphere. Anyone who visits this city should take a walk here

Very lively and there are plenty of stuff to see, buy and eat. The beautiful lighting of a temple. Friendly vendors and they were not pushy!

Popolo is a standout addition to Luang Prabang's dining scene, offering a welcome escape from the tourist hubbub with its beautifully designed, airy space. The menu focuses on shareable cantina fare such as artisanal cheese and dried meat platters, salads, wood-fired pizza, and locally sourced fresh burrata from Laos Buffalo Dairy.
I cannot express in words how much I enjoyed my experience here. I never thought I would have this quality of pizza in Luang Prabang in all places. The pickled apples that are included in the "French Kiss" pizza make it worth getting on anyone's bucket list. Otherwise, everything else that I ordered including appetizers and desserts were top notch. I don't normally repeat going to restaurants while going on trips but this place is a must-visit if you like pizza.
Dama D — Google review
The music and atmosphere was very nice and suited the vibe of the restaurant. The portion was large, and there was more food than we imagined. The food was delicious and affordable compared to the quality being offered.

Popolo Pizza is truly a must-visit in Luang Prabang! The pizzas are absolutely delicious — perfectly baked with a crispy crust and full of flavor. The ingredients taste fresh and high quality, and every bite feels authentic. Great Local beer in cheap price. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal even a bit hot and sweaty while a lunch. The staff are friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. Definitely one of the best restaurants in town — highly recommended!
Pornphattra C — Google review
Pad Kaprao pizza was delicious. Should have asked for crispier crust but not sure if they could have accommodated because of the toppings. Place has a great vibe and good music. Lots of attentive staff.

Really good pizzas, loaded nachos and nice iced coffee and good value. Waitress spoke good English, receipt was in Lao Kip, USD, Euro and Thai Baht which was useful. Nice atmosphere too, I recommend it and will definitely go back again.
Richard B — Google review
All the dishes we ordered were absolutely amazing. It was great to find high quality food and ingredients in Luang Prabang. Pizza was unique, pasta was amazing. Thanks for the great fun.
Dor H — Google review
First time coming here, and the Honolulu pizza was the best I’ve ever tasted. However, the garlic bread which was kind of pricey compared to other places I’ve been to in the capital, was disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be this burnt or not, but it felt like eating straight charcoal. It’s really not at a level that should be served. Might visit again for the pizza, but definitely not for the bread.

Restaurant
Atsalin Restaurant is a popular spot in Luang Prabang, known for its delicious stir-fried dishes. Located near the Night Market, the restaurant's two large fans emit mouthwatering wok smoke onto the street, setting the scene for a no-frills and bustling dining experience. Locals highly recommend this eatery and it's frequented by both locals and tourists.
When you walk past a restaurant with 3 hot woks and massive extractor fans in the front you know it’s going to be good and we were not disappointed. From the wok fried pad Thai, crispy pork rice, roast duck rice to Kao Lao. Everything was cooked to perfection! This place is so good it even gets to close on Mondays!

Ate at this place many times, food was really good and cheap (came out pretty fast). Most dishes are 40.000 Crispy pork with steam rice Fried spaghetti with chicken Noodle soup with chicken/crispy pork There were many reviews about the "Khao Soy" but for me it had no taste.
Julian A — Google review
1. This is a great spot for solo diners looking for a quick meal. They offer many single-serving meal options, and the few stir-fried dishes they have are essentially made from the side dishes of the set meals. So, don't expect much in terms of flavor. It's a solid, no-frills fast food restaurant. 2. As it's a fast food place, they prepare fried rice in large batches, which often results in it being a bit too wet. From a fried rice perspective, it doesn't quite meet the mark, but from a fast food standpoint, it's acceptable. On the plus side, I quite enjoy their braised pig’s feet—cooked just right, not too tough or greasy. The portions are small but reasonable for the price. 3. The restaurant is very popular with both locals and tourists, so service can be a bit chaotic. You may need to find a table yourself and get the staff’s attention, otherwise, you might end up waiting a while.

I read some good reviews from rednote so decided to give it a try. The restaurant was packed with people when we got there. We were lucky to get a table soon after. The menu is pretty standard with some basic noodles and dishes mainly in Chinese style. They do have stewed pig trotter I soya sauce as well. We decided to go for fried noodles and a mixed veggies rice with pork. All the dishes turned out to be pretty ordinary and nothing spectacular. In general, Laos food are pretty simple and nothing too inviting for me. However, the prices are pretty good. The size is decent as well. If you are just looking for some simple food, you may consider this place.
Ipoh L — Google review
Quiet in the day but a busy little place in the evening. I went twice as it was great. First time round I got the chicken pad thai, morning glory and spring rolls. All cooked well and tasty. Second time i got the crispy pork and rice which was excellent. Also very cheap at 40k kip a dish. Service was efficient and the atmosphere in the day is chilled with a nice little buzz about it when it gets busier and the woks are in full flow.
MARCUS M — Google review
Probably the most disappointing meal we had on our trip to Laos. The service is extreme slow, food was either served cold or oily. The restaurant lacks cleanliness and is usually much crowded and noisier as compared to other restaurants at Luang Prabang. We had hainanese chicken fried rice which was okay but their fried pork spring rolls were served cold and was stinking of stale oil. The tables weren't clean and a group next table were openly spitting in the restaurant but were stopped after some time by staff intervention. Only good thing about this restaurant was the affordability as the prices were much lower than other places at Luang Prabang. Our experience was extremely sour but it could differ as it's highly rated but personally it was a major let down.
Raunak B — Google review
I don’t really get the hype, it’s basic stir fried stuff, just a random throw in a wok veggies and other ingredients before it’s served to you with a small broth cup. Not bad not good, not worth the hype. Good if you don’t know where to eat, but don’t come there if you’re not nearby. My veggies were watery, rice too cooked. I think they cook so fast to please the amount of people that it’s just not elaborate at all and not cooked enough. You also don’t know when the egg was cooked, it’s sitting in front waiting to be bought.

Really cool place with spectacular view of the river. First night we came for beers and cocktails - they're simple but quite good. Next morning we came back for my first ever yoga class (7.30 am drop in class - 40,000 kip) and I really enjoyed it - great way to start your morning. We then stayed here for breakfast and it was absolutely amazing - my girlfriend had Shakshuka bowl and I had Huevos Rancheros - both dishes were incredibly tasty. I'm pretty sure we'll come back again tomorrow and the rest of our stay.

A real chilled bar overlooking the river. Great service. I had chicken snack, it’s quite pricey considering the amount and tasted average. I heard, a friend said pizza is good. The place is quite large with many areas to preferences like river terrace with lying pillow, bar counter, tables. Location wise, it’s quite deep in a small alley but not that difficult to find.

Quite good sunset experience in here. Very nice place located at the end of a dead end street. The setup of the bar is super nice and chill, you can easily relax and enjoy the view. There’s a happy hour on Lao cocktails, they were good and couldn’t feel the Lao Lao much but refreshing anyway. Recommend this place for sunset, the Freedom fries were good as well, you can be sure it is homemade.
Arnaud T — Google review
The food was lush, the scenery was beautiful and overall a lovely experience. It’s chilled during the day and then like a bar at night. Many vegetarian and vegan options so me and my partner could both eat happy there. Plus it’s reasonably priced for travellers.

Chilled with a capital C! A great place to lounge around over looking the Nam Khan river. Many cushions, beanbags to relax on or tables and chairs if you want a meal. Nice selection on the menu, especially some exotic smoothie. We visited for lunch and think it must be really cool at night too. Not easy to stumble upon so follow the signs or Google maps!
Vincent O — Google review
It's tricky to get there. The location is very relaxed and well furnished directly to the river. We like their philosophy. The staff was friendly but quite slow and unattentive. Everything took much longer than in other places. Food was okay. The pulled pork sandwich was a bit boring from the taste, spices were missing. The chicken sate was a bit dry, but the sauce was excellent.
Fab I — Google review
Great atmosphere and place to relax in a beautiful surrounding. The place is much larger than we expected with plenty of sitting areas, table, chairs, bean bags and even sleeping mats. They seem to encourage you to hangout and chill. We also enjoyed the cauliflower wings, spicy chicken tacos which were not spicy at all, as well as the cocktails and drinks. The prices are comparable to the many restaurants around but without the cool vibe.
Virginia A — Google review
5 stars for creating a cool Bohemian place with a great river view and super chill vibe. Hilariously challenging to find without Google Maps, but you will know when you have found "Utopia". Delicious, clean food, a deep, wide coctail menu -- with a Moscow Mule made with their own homemade ginger beer (not bad). Prices are reasonable. Recommend to go before sunset to lounge and enjoy the view. Plan to spend some time here! Don't regret overlooking this place. [Please "like" if you find this review helpful]

Bamboo Tree Namkhan Riverside Restaurant is a unique spot that offers both dining and cooking classes. The restaurant, located on the Peninsula, provides an immersive experience where participants get to visit the local Phou Si Market to select fresh ingredients for their chosen menu. The cooking classes start at 9 am and include coffee and tea service before heading to the market. It's also a great place to meet new people, as guests have the opportunity to engage with others during their time there.
Great place! The food is good and served quickly. The staff speak English and is very kind. Prices are reasonable. On the patio part smoking is allowed. Superb!

after spending the morning exploring the kuangsi waterfall and riding our scooter back to LPB, we were craving for a big meal, and decided to lunch here. We ordered basically the 3 dishes on the page of most popular Laos dish. Yes we were too hungry that no time for browsing. Ho mok was very delicious. Lab was good. They did adjust the spicy level to your request. We went with 1 chili level and it was pleasant for a summer lunch. Or lam was a bit disappointing, soup was bland. Each dish served with a portion of sticky rice, so the 2 of us were super full with these 3 dishes. The salted peanut for appetizer was offered and it was very interesting to have it mixed with lemongrass. You should try their mango smoothie, really worth the money for such a huge portion of good sweet mango. Restaurant was quite empty during lunch time, it was beginning of March. Indeed the restaurant was very pricey compared to many other options you could have for traditional Lao food, but it was still worth it for the attentive presentation and the setting.

The French pastries are the best I had fora long time. Sandwich was ok. Coffee very good. And the meals are well presented and delicious. Friendly service. On all we went three times for both lunch and diner.

rare 5 star review. had a late lunch and it was excellent. the taste of the lemongrass-wrapped cooked pork was what I had been envisioning since wanting to visit Laos years ago. easily the best meal I had in the town. staff was friendly with good english. go for the Mekong seaweed and joebong (something like that; it’s #4 on the Loas food page of the menu). indoor and outdoor seating. clean bathroom. an absolute must when in “downtown” shopping/temple area. the highest of recommendations.

We had a meal at Bamboo Tree Namkhan Riverside Restaurant and tried two dishes: the tofu with curry and the chicken chili curry. Both dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, offering a good balance of spices. The riverside location provides a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere, making it a nice spot for a meal. Overall, it was a good dining experience.

Great authentic Laos food. Wide selection of local dishes with amazing flavours. Staff were very welcoming and attentive and my wife and I hope to return to try some more dishes.
Nigel L — Google review
Good Lao Food in a nice ambiente, also works well for mid-sized groups. A little pricier than average for the city. We had a couple of dishes on the table as well as one of the menu. All were great but I recommend to order separately and did not feel like the menu choice was the best option. VERY IMPORTANT: Spiciness 3/5 is extremely spicy, only take this if you are confident in your own tolerance of spicy food

Noodle shop
Laotian restaurant
When in Luang Prabang, one must try the unique Khao Soi noodle soup, which differs from the Chiang Mai version. Served with clear stock and topped with chili and fermented soybean paste, it boasts a bright red hue. Despite not being highly recommended, Sackarinh Guest House offers delicious and affordable Khao Soi.
Quite possibly the best Khao Soi I tried in my month in Laos, well balanced and full of flavour with nice noodles cooked well to the bite. Its a small family run shop with super friendly owners but with limited seating and serves only from 7:30 - 12:00pm, so be sure to arrive early before they run out.
A — Google review
Khao soy tastes unique and more delicious than the noodle. Vegetables are fresh and well prepared and displayed on the dish.
Tran — Google review
Outstanding chicken and broth noodles with blood cubes - served with fresh bean sprout and lemon slices. Maybe the best I have had since my Javanese wandering days - I would return to the city for the noodles alone
Alun E — Google review
Khao Soi is a must-try dish for anyone visiting the city. It’s a great way to experience local flavors that differ from the more commonly known Thai version of the dish. Whether you're a foodie on a mission to explore Lao cuisine or just a traveler looking for a tasty meal, Khao Soi in Luang Prabang is sure to leave a unique impression.
Kantima X — Google review
Great little noodle shop that serves pork khao soi noodles from early morning until they run out. The best part is the bowl of delicious vegetables and herbs that accompany the main dish itself. Mix with locals and visitors and make new friends.
Chris G — Google review
The khao soi was excellent. It was a generous portion with a large side of vegetables. It’s quite different than the northern Thai equivalent but just as tasty. I also loved the road side setting. Highly reccomended!
Simon T — Google review
Super good Khao Soy and Beef noodle soup. Tried the Khao Soy and it has a great depth of flavor. My kids had the beef noodle soup and we all want to eat it again for breakfast tomorrow.
Kelly C — Google review
This is the famous khao soi noodle in Luang Prabang. The menu is simple, just noodle soup and khao soi both at a whopping 20,000Kip per bowl. From that price you know that tourists had a role to play the prices. 20K is actually quite extravagant for a sidewalk Al fresco noodle shop. I ordered the Khao Soi (best place to sit is right in front of her) and I liked it. I didn't like the price but I felt it justified a quarter of what the dish satisfied in me. Pork broth with bolognese of fatty pork with flat rice noodles. A satisfying meal nonetheless and because every tourist blogs about it. They always almost sell out at 11am. So try to be there early. You can recognise the shop just further down from Scandinavian Bakery, and recognise them by the 3 black cauldrons smouldering in hot coals. Happy Travels.

Laotian restaurant
Lao Lao Garden Restaurant is a popular spot in Luang Prabang, managed by a well-known local LGBTQ+ individual. The restaurant offers affordable menu options for budget travelers, including fried rice, noodles, noodle soup, and more. Additionally, it features a massive beer garden with plenty of outdoor seating and an unofficial gay bar with an outdoor terrace and stage for cabaret shows.
Spent 140,000 for a unique dinner they called Lao Barbque. There was a hidden grill inside our table that the waiter used to prepare our barbque consisting of soup with vegetables. Meat cooked on top of the metallic grill so their oils and juices add flavor to the soup. This restaurant is located in a busy street where a lot of bars and restaurants are located. We thought it was a small place but we were surprised when we were guided to a bigger garden where the barbque-tables are situated.
Maya B — Google review
I love this place. The food is incredibly tasty and plentiful(!), the drink specials are great, and the atmosphere is unlike any other--especially at night. The restaurant has a social-romantic vibe, and the servers are very kind. I hardly ever take the time to write reviews but this place absolutely deserves it
Patrick S — Google review
Only tried the cocktails there: sweet and unbalanced. Not to my taste. If you like alcopops this might be for you. At night the surrounding in the garden looks quite appealing, thought.
Rubino G — Google review
LaoLaoGarden is a totally atypical bar that bears its name because it gives you the feeling of immersing yourself in a garden at the entrance. Very nice, even the toilet! The atmosphere is sypathic with free tabe of pools. The employees and the boss are very smiling. The price of drinks is standard. I would definitely come here again.
Fredo — Google review
Pleasant place in the evening, with good music. Restaurant with bar on the street side and nice garden in the back. There is a snooker table too.
Pierre T — Google review
Location has changed! It is just around the corner, but don't give up when it isn't where some of the maps still have it. This place is FANTASTIC! I definitely wouldn't call it a "gay" place, but the music was upbeat and fun, the drinks were inexpensive and, though of course not very strong, very tasty. Mostly permanent expats here from all over the world, but the bartenders are very friendly, drink with everyone, and become part of the fun rather than just staying coldly behind the bar serving drinks. A fun vibe with multiple outdoor and indoor areas. Besides the main bar area up front where most of the loud action and socializing happens, there was a pool table inside, a dance area, and tons of quieter outdoor seating with tables and beautiful decorative lighting. Clean bathrooms as well. The owner has really built this place by himself over many years. He has gone through a lot of struggle being one of the only "gay" establishments in the area and being forced to move locations. Keep this place open :)
Brian T — Google review
The place is very average in regards to service and food and needs a deeps clean in places, 2 of the places we sat at had cobwebs where they would put a hotplate. The wait staff are friendly but some struggle to understand you which I appreciate since English isn't their native language. One of the things we ordered was forgotten and had to reordered. We also showed up the next day for drinks as its meant to be one of the only gay friendly bars and was turned away because they had decided to close over an hour early, it wasn't even 10.30 and two other customers were being turned away at the same time.
Joseph A — Google review
The ambiance here is great. The garden in the back is super funky and has pretty lighting. The food is so-so but what was wicked were the mosquitos! Obviously the restaurant can’t help the fact that there are bugs, but there are no coils or candles and one bottle of spray for everyone. As much as I wanted to return i couldn’t handle getting eaten alive!

Tangor Restaurant Bar & Lounge is a popular spot in town, known for its delicious tilapia ceviche and a full cocktail repertoire. The owners have extensive experience and offer great customer service in a relaxed atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the ambiance with 60s and 70s music while savoring the delectable dishes.
Excellent restaurant for western/fusion food. Chicken satay, grilled fish, suckling pig (tastes like Chinese braised pork) and the sharing platter (had vegan foiegras which exceeded my carnivorous expectations). We had to catch the hotel shuttle bus and asked them to expedite the dinner which they very helpfully did. Kudos to Thibault and team for the excellent dinner which we all enjoyed

This is a pretty chill bar in Luang Prabang. The decorations are nicely done and give the place a cozy, laid-back vibe. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Prices are affordable, and the location is perfect—right on the same street as the night market, so it’s easy to find and convenient to stop by after exploring.

We are visiting Luang Prabang from Mexico, and I must say that the Ceviche is exactly what the other reviews describe: amazing, great, delicious, etc etc. Totally recommended. The rest of food in the menu is also delicious, prices very reasonable and the restaurant and location in one of the areas main streets. Last but not least, staff and owners provided a great service.

Perfect for people watching from the terrace. Full bar, friendly servers, and everything our group tried on the menu was enjoyed. The house specialty of ceviche was my favorite. Also the fish in the parchment paper. Very tasty.

I suffered from mild food poisoning here after eating a raw burger that I ordered to be cooked medium. This probably would have been fine if they used good quality beef but given my vomiting the morning after they used cheap beef mince for their burgers and also don’t cook it for long enough.

Nestled in a secluded spot near the Red Cross massage parlour, Bamboo Garden Restaurant exudes an air of secrecy. Tucked away down an unpaved alley across from Wat Visoun, this hidden gem is marked by a hand-painted sign and the melodic strains of Lao music.
Wow wow wow! Bamboo Garden has excellent authentic food with superb service. We had vegetable curry, stir fry morning glory & shrimp rice. All dishes were superb in taste & flavour. Our favourite food spot in Luang Prabang. Heavily recommend!

Bamboo Garden in Luang Prabang is a must-visit! This charming spot exceeded expectations with its huge portions and incredibly delicious food. just had to take a moment to rave about your incredible fried rice! It was an absolute delight from the first bite to the last. The flavours were perfectly balanced, savoury , aromatic, and with just the right hint of smokiness from the wok. Every grain was cooked to perfection, with that ideal texture that’s both fluffy and satisfyingly chewy. The fresh ingredients, from the tender veggies to the perfectly seasoned protein, made every spoonful a burst of joy. It’s clear that your team puts so much care and skill into this dish, and it truly elevates the dining experience. This is hands-down the best fried rice I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to come back for more! Thank you for making my meal unforgettable.

We ended up eating here 4 times during our stay in LP. The Bo Bun was my favorite as well as the spring rolls. Her peanut sauce is not to be missed. Everything is under 30k which is very reasonable for the area. Also had the soup when I was sick and it made me better. Great food and local vibe.

Veg pad lao had plenty of protein: soft tofu, omelette and peanuts. The flavour was nice and sweet, but overall a bit heavy with oil. Price 45k. The place was packed on a weeknight.

Great little cafe run by relaxed people. We are a mix of vegetarians and meat eaters and the menu worked well for us. As others have said the Vietnamese noodles are delicious. There are no windows/sides and lots of fans to get a breeze going which is nice. Simple and very good.
Katie M — Google review
The staff told us the place was "full" and that we had to wait. But what we actually saw was completely unacceptable: • There were only 2 customers at the bar. • One four-seat table had just one person; another table was the same. It was obvious that shared seating was possible! Yet they made us wait a full thirty minutes-and even after the bar customers left, we were still left waiting outside! Then, during ordering, it got worse. We asked for no sugar and no cilantro, and the server flat-out refused. We tried explaining a second time, and again, they said no. Is this restaurant not catering to tourists? Are they incapable of making a simpl adiustment? How can they not even leave out cilantro?! And what infuriates me most is the total lack of service awareness-not a single word of apology.

Two Little Birds Cafe is a charming vegan eatery in Luang Prabang, run by a local family and surviving the pandemic. The menu features fresh, vegan-friendly dishes like smoothie bowls, vegetable curries, and traditional Lao coffee. Located behind Dao Coffee near Amantaka Hotel, this family-owned establishment offers friendly service and fair prices. Visitors can enjoy delicious food that can be made vegan or vegetarian by default.
Visited this cafe twice and had a great experience both times. The smoothie bowls are the best I've had and I love that the full menu is vegetarian. I'm not veggie, but used this cafe as an opportunity to get more nutrients in while travelling. Highly recommend - quality food and service! ♥️

This place is okay, we just wanted a couple of smoothie bowls and had been recommended to come here. The service wasn’t great for us, felt like we’d been forgotten about - the owner apologised as he thought we’d already ordered. Then I had to ask again for the water we ordered (not the end of the world!) The smoothie bowls were very nice and pretty filling which is what we needed, also presented nicely.
Leo G — Google review
Pretty good experience here, the fruit bowl is very refreshing. However, I would say a little more fruit and less yogurt is better. Service is friendly and the staff speak good English. Understandable because this place is crowded with tourist, especially those from the West.
Thien D — Google review
The vegan food was delicious, the staff was friendly and spoke a little bit of English. The prices were very reasonable! Really recommend it!
Daniel G — Google review
Cute veggie place but overpriced and the food was not super tasty or filling. I have eaten far better summer rolls, especially in Vietnam. These didn't have any fresh herbs and the peanut sauce was watery.. 🙃 Also, we ordered a pot of lemongrass and ginger tea expecting fresh ingredients. What we got was a single English branded teabag diluted in far too much water, so disappointing :(
Daisy — Google review
The berry smoothie bowl never disappoints. Fresh fruit, yogurt, and berries, sweet, refreshing, and fresh in every bite. So good. Highly recommended.
B.S. K — Google review
Two Little Birds Caffe felt like it was run by a mad scientist who hates fruit. The drinks? Imagine if someone poured you a thimble of juice, buried it in an iceberg, and then drowned it with fizzy water. Voilà, disappointment in a glass. Calling it “refreshing” would be like calling a hangover “a spiritual awakening.” I just wanted actual juice, not a chemistry experiment. The bowls at least tried to save the day. They looked decent and tasted okay, but some of the promised ingredients clearly got lost on their way from the kitchen to the table. Menu says one thing, bowl says “nah.” It wasn’t bad, but it felt like someone photocopied a salad and gave me the grayscale version. Verdict: you won’t leave angry, but you also won’t leave inspired. 3/5.

Dara Market is a bustling and famous local market in Pakham Village, known for its diverse range of goods including souvenirs, handmade clothing, and remarkable handicrafts. Visitors can immerse themselves in the cultural richness by exploring traditional Lao garments, marveling at intricate Hmong embroidery, and admiring vibrant crafts of the hill tribes. The market also offers a variety of street food delicacies and local specialties like Luang Prabang sausage.
Nice nightmarket that opens every evening untill almost night. Nice to walk around. We did not buy anything, so my review is not about the food and drinks quality.

Fair prices, much better than the little convenience stores around town. Well stocked, clean and well lit. The temperature inside is a little hot though. We tried the little ice cream bags from the freezers near the checkout and were really surprised at how good they were! I recommend the chocolate flavor.

visited on Aug 2025 many shops seem to be permanently closed down. mostly skirts shop and bike rental still open. traditional lao skirt are fairly priced though if you’re considering the effort they put to weave these patterns.
LI N — Google review
Place is empty and dusty. Got a feel of "about to be foreclosed". The only open stores are for textiles and some antiques. Those are the stores at the edge of the market. The inside ones are all closed.
A. M — Google review
Dara Market small stalls were great. But I did go there purposely to buy a pillow at the big supermarket with no success lol. They had many shelves full of pillows but no price on them apparently so I was told I could not buy one...decoration only?? I was sad Lol

Good. Most can't speak English. But can manage. Cheap. Not crowded. I can recommend.
L K — Google review
Horrible place. I needed only 2 items, but woe betide you if ahead of you is a local is trying to pack away a 100+ items. The clerk will slowly take her own sweet time to compile the bill and after a quarter of an hour when your own turn comes, will demand only cash, no cards or any other form of payment.
Priyan N — Google review
A random collection of shops most which were closed. A range of items not necessarily blending in one space. The actual situation did not meet expectations or the hype.

Restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Luang Prabang's Night Market, Ajam Mora Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that strikes a balance between casual and slightly formal. This charming eatery serves an array of dishes, from flavorful stir-fries and spring rolls to comforting noodle soups, whole baked fish, curries, and fresh vegetables. One standout dish is their fried rice with pork topped with a perfectly crispy fried egg—an absolute treat!
Pork topped rice noodles and Coca-Cola, rice noodles that are easily eaten in Southeast Asia, but it is not easy to find a place that makes rice noodles that delicious. A good restaurant in an alley of a market. Wide rice noodles in a broth with plenty of chicken, and various herbs added. It is a truly Southeast Asian style rice noodle. Recommended.
B.S. K — Google review
Delicious food and friendly service for a reasonable price, particularly for the area. The curry with tofu (40k kip) was a highlight with delicious flavour. Also good portion size. Highly recommend to all! They also offer a minivan service to Kuang Si waterfall - 100k kip 11.30am - 16.00pm. Didn’t use this so cannot comment on the service.
Alex M — Google review
True hidden gem in Luang Prabang! The food felt so authentic and carried that comforting, home-made touch you can rarely find when traveling. Every dish was prepared with care, full of rich flavors that brought out the essence of Lao cuisine. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it feel like you were being hosted by family rather than dining in a restaurant. If you’re looking for a genuine taste of local food with heart and authenticity, Ajam Mora is an absolute must-visit.
Avinash J — Google review
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Luang Prabang. That kind of local restaurant where the food is good, made by locals and cheap. I ate here everyday when I was in Luang Prabang. The food is really good! Definitely recommend to backpackers and travellers that like the experience of a good local restaurant. Prices are super affordable and the old lady who serves you is so nice and kind. Highly recommend!
Ludmila Z — Google review
For me this is the best value restaurant in the city. Dont expect a great atmosphere or nothing fancy, its just a local shop run by an old sweet lady that has super good food for super cheap prices, and the best for me is that they cater for vegetarians too. This is a must try if you are visiting. Authentic flavours and the best bang for your buck
Federico R — Google review
This is exactly the kind of restaurant I like to visit when I travel. Don't expect any luxury, we were served by an old lady and she was very nice. I have a great advantage that I travel with my girlfriend from Laos, so ordering food is easier. The food was very tasty and for me the price was really very affordable for everyone. Atmosphere very quiet at lunchtime, in the evening it can be a little noisy, there are food stands from the night market. My only regret is that I discovered this restaurant on my last day, otherwise I would come back to this place.
Filip R — Google review
Very simple but authentic place. Good food, the lowest prices in Luang Prabang. Very friendly service. Additionally they are offering transport services to The airport, railway station and waterfalls.

Head over to Sisavangvong Road and treat yourself to a feast at Food Street, where you can indulge in Laotian delicacies like sticky rice, barbecued chicken skewers, and flavorful khao piak sen noodles. Once you've satisfied your hunger, explore the adjacent Night Market for a variety of souvenirs such as elephant-printed clothing and traditional Lao crafts. Additionally, the market offers an array of affordable food stalls serving local and Western cuisine.
Great pad Thai at the ‘Luang Prabang street food stall’ opposite ‘Pizza Ori bakery’s’ . Cooked freshly in front of us. Lovely little table to sit at opposite to soak up the atmosphere. Easily the tastiest pad Thai we have had on our travels (we’ve had many!). Recommend giving this place a try
India E — Google review
I personally love this small street night food market. You can try all varieties local tasty food in this place. If you like Somtum, try at this shop.
Nang H — Google review
While the large night market is good for food, sometimes it is worth it to explore the smaller laneways where people are serving freshly cooked food at very cheap prices. Some food has been sitting there a while, so only go for the stuff that is freshly cooked.
Russell S — Google review
It's a great experience to see this street and grab a street food. Prices are cheaper than on the night market, quality a good one for street food. Great juices selection and super tasty coconut mini-pancakes! We had as well a tom yum soup - definitelly recommended
Justyna P — Google review
A small alley full of food stalls, where you get a lot of Laotian dishes. Settled for an avocado shake and khao soi (very different from Thai version but definitely recommend, with that chilli oil!)
Sreelakshmi — Google review
Most of it, if not all, are interesting and the cheapest in town. Only about a fifty-meter strip, it’s an array of legit Laotian food. Some are freshly cooked, some looked stale. Be prudent in choosing the right stall
Ian D — Google review
Best food in Luang Prabang can be found here, they might look simple but very flavorful, our Dutch and Chinese bellies didn’t got upset for once after eating here for a week. Conclusion, friendly chefs, good taste, affordable prices. Definitely recommend it!
Chen Y — Google review
There are coconut pancake, rice skewers and fruit shakes stores at the front before heading in. The walkway can be a tad narrow when crowded. Local cuisines to try with prices being around 15-25k kip depending on what dishes you will be getting. Sticky rice at a standard 5k, fruit shake 10-15k kip and rice skewers/coconut pancakes at 5k. Bonus - a 20k kip vegetarian, one plate one price "buffet", where you load up on whatever you want and pay only 20k kip.

Chaleunphone restaurant in Luang Prabang offers a variety of healthy Lao Thai dishes such as rice-based meals, soups, and pan-fried noodles. The family-owned establishment is known for its delicious food with a homemade touch, attracting repeat visitors who appreciate the fresh and soulful flavors. While the service may be slow during busy times, the authentic taste of the traditional spicy, sweet, and salty dishes makes it worth the wait.
A small mom and pop place that looks like it's run by a husband, wife, and kids. The food is delicious! It was the only place I went back 3 times during my vacation in Southeast Asia. The food had soul, and it was fresh. Yes, it is a bit slow when it's busy, but it's worth it. I had the Pad Thai (better than the ones I had in Bangkok), green and yellow curry. I ate every morsel and wanted more!

Good food at a great value. We got two rices dishes and one noodle soup for 45k. The dishes we ordered were able to be made vegetarian. Def recommend for budget eating 👍🏽
Lora M — Google review
The food tastes delicious and the prices are really low. It's a homely restaurant with a small kitchen, run by very nice elderly people, in the evenings all the seats are often taken so the waiting time for food can get much longer. If you expect to be served to European standards for $2-3 and get your meal after 10 minutes this is simply not the place for you.

Everything here is excellent. Ate here several times during my stay in Luang Prabang. Today I had drunken noodles and then ordered the spicy coconut curry on chef's recommendation. Your food may take a while if its busy but that just means you know its all freshly prepared. Great spot to eat.

If you're in Luang Prabang and craving an unforgettable bowl of khao soy, Julie's Village Noodles is the place to be. Without a doubt, they serve the best khao soy in town. The broth is absolutely divine, rich and layered with deep, complex flavors that linger with every spoonful. If you're wandering through Luang Prabang and find yourself craving a comforting bowl of noodle soup, look no further than the Noodle Soup Night Market. Nestled next to a bustling junction, this unassuming eatery is a treasure trove of Laotian flavors. While it may not have an official name, it's renowned for its homemade dishes that include crispy pork noodles and classic favorites like fried rice and laap.
It is a small restaurant that only opens together with the night market hours. They offer 3 main dishes (you can see other photos in my review for 2 of them). And it takes 40,000 kip for one bowl. The soup is good. I strongly suggest rice noodles soup as it has more toppings than the other one.
Hoài V — Google review
Dec 24 We ordered rice noodle soup and noodle soup with minced pork sauce. The noodle soup with minced pork sauce came with flat rice noodle. It didn’t feel like there was meat inside except for some minced pork. The soup was tasty. The price for each bowl was 40.000 kip. The price in another review of this shop was 30.000 kip a year ago. That was a big price jump for a year. That’s the price to be in tourist area I guess. Still worth a try.
Harry N — Google review
Tried the vegetarian soup. Asked for no meat, only vegetables. The soup was good, but ok. For the price of 50k it was a bit too expensive.
Alejandro C — Google review
It was very good! I tried the veggie one and it was delicious. And it only costed me 40kip which is like 2 euros

It’s not bad although overpriced for sure at 20000. You can find other restaurants and cafes that’ll sell for 12-15000 next street over for the same quality n quantity.
MiNa K — Google review
Cheap and tasty pho and kao soi, with fresh veggies and noodles. I paid 30,000 Kip for a bowl which seemed reasonable for a tourist price. Nothing out of this world, but tasty and filling and the people serving are friendly. Surrounding night market gives it a nice atmosphere. Note that kao soi in Laos isn’t spicy and not like Thai kao soi with the crispy noodles
Brigid F — Google review
The shop is around the night market along the main street. I had their Khao Soy noodle which is a spicy noodle soup and it was delicious. Throw in basil, lettuce and some lime juice for extra flavour. They also have chilli on the side if you want it hotter. The cost is at 20,000kip (around usd2.50). Cheap good street food.

I went early in the morning at 7:00 to eat Kaho soi. I have to say that it is the best dish of my Laos trip. It is a simple dish, but simple dish are harder to make it perfect, and yet i think she did just that.
