Nijo Market is a must-visit in Sapporo, offering a wide variety of freshly caught seafood and produce. This 100-year-old market is within walking distance of major attractions and showcases Hokkaido's legendary seafood bounty. Visitors can enjoy kaisen-don (sashimi rice bowl) at dining stalls like Oiso, known for its delicious offerings.
It was a very lively market! It's very convenient because you can walk from downtown Susukino. There are a lot of fresh seafood and many shops, so it's hard to choose where to go. You can sample king crab here and there, so I thought it was great that I could choose a shop I liked and buy it myself. It's cheaper than in Kanto, after all! I also had a seafood bowl at Oguma Shoten after wondering where to eat it! It was very delicious! Thank you for all the food. It took about 5 minutes to get there from downtown Susukino. Most of the shops were seafood shops. It took about 10 minutes even if you went quickly to the end of the street. The restaurant was small and cozy. There were quite a lot of customers when I went there at 7.30am. There were several seafood bowl shops and restaurants, and prices were moderate. The prices were moderate. Asparagus and potatoes were also available at . The market is close to the downtown area so it was good to be able to use the market easily.

We visited Nijo Market during our time in Sapporo and loved every bit of it. The atmosphere was lively and filled with the scent of fresh seafood. Stalls were lined with beautiful displays of crabs, scallops, sea urchins, and more—it was a feast for the senses even before tasting anything. After browsing around, we decided to sit down for lunch at one of the small stalls inside the market. We ordered fresh kaisendon and grilled seafood—everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The seafood bowl was overflowing with tuna, salmon roe, sweet shrimp, and uni, and it was easily one of the best meals we had during our Hokkaido trip. The staff at the stall were warm and welcoming, even helping us with recommendations. The kids also enjoyed walking around afterward, checking out other stalls and watching the seafood being cleaned and grilled on the spot. There’s a very local, down-to-earth feel about the whole place, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Nijo Market is more than just a place to buy seafood—it’s a window into Hokkaido’s food culture and a great spot for a satisfying, authentic lunch in Sapporo.

A good location to visit for an experience of a local Market. The place is nice and clean. There are many seafood restaurants here. We came before 8am and there were queues in front of most of the restaurants already. Other than restaurants there are many stalls Selling everything from seafood to dry goods to fruits. The stall staff were all very friendly and warm. Overall a good interesting place with good vibes to visit in Sapporo.
Gooose — Google review
Lots of options for restaurants and fresh fish. Quite a few if the restaurants on the northern side have queues, but head west and you’ll find options that are less densely populated. Good to visit, even better to eat at.
Adam B — Google review
Went to Nijo market around 1pm to look for the red Hanasaki crab which is in season: May-August. Chanced upon a stall (有)山下水産。Selected a medium size Hanasaki crab and bargained with seller. All friendly and good! The workers warmed it up and cut the crab 😄. Lots of meat and tasted very good. There’s sweetness in the meat and everybit is flavorful. It was enough for three of us (adults). Definitely a must try in Sapporo.
Richard Y — Google review
A very popular spot in Sapporo, mainly you can enjoy see food here, as choosing the most local people where line up, if you want the whole menu then you better come early, like 10 PM, or many items may sold out.
Edward T — Google review
Very near to the shopping street. Easy access and friendly people. Cheapest place in town if you are looking to buy dry seafood products for your cooking. Come during October cooling and very nice time to come.

🐟 Nijo Market – Sapporo’s Seafood Playground (Just Don’t Come Hangry) 🍣 If you’re in Sapporo and craving a deep dive into Hokkaido’s seafood scene, Nijo Market is where it all begins. It’s not the biggest market in Japan—but it punches way above its weight when it comes to fresh catches and full-on flavor. You’ve got crabs the size of small dogs, scallops so fresh they still have ocean attitude, trays of sea urchin, sashimi bowls piled high like edible art, and enough dried fish and seafood snacks to make your backpack smell very interesting for the rest of the day. There’s a charm to how local and low-key it feels—no massive tourist spectacle here, just real-deal vendors, tiny family-run stalls, and breakfast spots that serve donburi so fresh it practically swims onto your rice. That said, some stalls do cater to tourists, so prices can vary depending on how far you wander. 💡 Pro tip: Come early for the freshest options and to beat the brunch crowd. Look for the smaller shops around the edges—they often have better deals and fewer cameras. And if you’ve never had uni before, this is the place to give it a go.

Umi Hachikyo is a traditional Japanese restaurant in Sapporo, known for its focus on seafood. The most popular dish is Tsukko meshi, featuring soy sauce-brined salmon roe over a bowl of rice. The restaurant's salmon roe is sourced from Hokkaido, adding to its authenticity.
Best place for salmon roe, not sure what they do but it tastes better than anywhere else I tried it. The grilled fish was fantastic. Would def recommend to try if you are ever in the area. The potato side was great too. Need to book in advance during Sapporo snow festival. Basically anything you order you won’t be disappointed. Thx for a fantastic experience. Skip dessert and go somewhere else. Not bad just not like their meal. Same as family mart ice cream.

We decided to pop by when they first opened at 6pm, testing our luck as we didn’t make a reservation. Luckily, there was a spare table by the bar which they offered us. I had a small bowl of salmon roe and salmon-sashimi, while my partner had the medium salmon roe bowl. The portions were huge and they were super generous with the salmon roe. It was such a fun experience and we felt so welcomed by all the staff. The seafood was fresh and so delicious, we will definitely be recommending this spot to family and friends.
Len N — Google review
In A Nutshell: -Umi Hachikyo is a really fun restaurant to eat at. -I enjoyed the salmon roe pour overed a bowl of rice. -When this happens they will yell おいさあおいさ。(Hey! Hey! Hey!) until enough salmon roe is poured over your rice. -The food is really delicious. -The Hokkaido Karaage Chicken was good, but I don't recommend it. -The scallop was very big & the juices were very tasty. Overall, don't forget to enjoy some Classic Sapporo Beer & cold Hokkaido Sake.
Dude — Google review
The restaurant is popular, very atmospheric, staff are friendly, even we don't know Japanese, they look for translations for us to explain the menu and place orders. The most famous is the salmon roe rice, it served in 3 sizes - small, medium or large. We went for the medium to share each other. It’s impressive when serving, the staff makes a loud announcement then begin to ladle fresh salmon roe onto our bowl of rice. Each salmon roe is full and big, we are watching the salmon roe sliding down from the white rice, visual and taste are satisfied, the other foods are delicious, the price is reasonable but not particularly cheap. Better make reservation or you may not get a seat.
CM L — Google review
Izakaya famous for their overflowing salmon roe with rice (ikura-don). No fishiness of the roe at all and their grilled mackerel was great too. Good atmosphere, as there is a performative component to the service of the roe. The staff will chant with each spoonful of ikura placed over the rice, served tableside.
S T — Google review
Here for the experience and this place servessss. Please try the iconic salmon bowl and the Miso Mackerel!! Advisable to make reservation
Genevieve P — Google review
Great atmosphere and service and the ceremony around the salmon roe was good fun. The other things on the menu were also tasty (and especially the buttered corn). We turned up at 6 one day, couldnt get a table but they helped us book for the following day. Definitely worth the return - a memorable dinner
David S — Google review
What a fantastic place. You walk in and feel like you're walking into a fisherman's shack. The staff are attentive and entertaining. Wait until they serve up the overflowing salmon roe and the excitement and theatrics that go with it. That said, the food is great and the fish is very fresh.

Vegetable wholesale market
Sapporo Central Wholesale Market is not open to the general public for shopping, but visitors can arrange Japanese language tours between 5:00 and 16:00. It's best to visit in the early morning to witness the lively seafood and fruit/vegetable auctions. The market offers a wide variety of ocean produce, including live crabs, sea urchin, salmon roe, sweet scallops, shrimp, abalone, and fresh fish like salmon and mackerel.
Came here as a tourist; they have a program (in Japanese) which is interesting, and while we didn’t get to see the fish auction (it ends early) we did get to see fruits/vegetables auction (around 7AM). The restaurants inside are simple but good (we saw only folks working in the market though that may be because today is a weekday). I’d highly recommend coming before 6 (5?) and registering to see the auction. (見学) We couldn’t go to the auction floor itself but there are shops around the wholesale market if you want to buy something.
Ed K — Google review
Auction only in the morning from 5am to 8am. After 6am most of the auction from fish market has been completed. Besides, you only can enjoy the auction from the view point on 2/F on saturday. If you have tight schedule, this can be skip.

Kaisendon, Soup Kani, Grilled Scallop, Grilled Welk, Grilled Tentacles and sweet honeydew. Been craving for my bowl of kaisendon for my Japanese since arriving Japan. And I finally got it at Sapporo Central Wholesale market. This was from one of the shops with restaurant sitting.

This is the professional fresh fish auction, meant primarily for members (local businesses who buy fresh fish in bulk). Similar to other fish auctions in Japan, a limited number of tourists are apparently allowed to visit, but only by advance reservation.

Hakodate Uni Murakami Nippon Life Sapporo Building Store is a must-visit for sea urchin enthusiasts in Hokkaido. The restaurant offers generous servings of fresh sea urchin, particularly in their popular uni donburi. In addition to this signature dish, they also serve sea urchin in various other creative ways such as shell-roasted sea urchin, green tea with rice, gratin, and croquette.
Best restaurant for Uni in Sapporo! Strategically located within 10mins walk from Sapporo station, this place is a must visit if youre in town. We ordered the 60gr box, the 80gr box already sold out when we came :( And the grilled fish and sake which were perfect additions to the dinner! Super happy customer 👍🏻
Jessica S — Google review
Every time I visit this place, I always order the largest 80g uni rice bowl. The uni is flown in fresh from Hakodate to Sapporo every day, ensuring top quality. When it's at its best, every bite is incredibly sweet and fresh. Aside from the uni rice bowl, I highly recommend the uni and crab porridge. It may look simple, but the flavor is sweet, and umami-rich. Especially on a cold day, a warm bowl is incredibly comforting. Plus, compared to other uni dishes, this porridge offers amazing value for money!
Leo H — Google review
For the freshness - no doubt. For the service and dining atmosphere - perfect. For the taste - a little disappointing. It was tasty, but not matched with my expectation. Uni I had in the market was better. Anyway it was a nice place to eat but not that ideal if taking the price into consideration. We were lucky that didn’t have to wait without a reservation. Go early to avoid the crowds!
Emily L — Google review
5/5 for the food. 5/5 for the service by the staff. 5/5 for the atmosphere ! All of the staff could communicate decently and respectfully in English for foreigners. Food was exceptional - best uni we’ve had in a few years, and crisp tempura full of flavor. Glad we reserved a table thru jpneazy a few days ago bc there was a very long queue when we were leaving at 8:15pm.
Karl P — Google review
We visited in the beginning of June and hoping to try some decent Uni, my first time visiting Hokkaido - the origin of some authentic Japanese uni and seafood, I do have some hopes for tasty food... Ordered the Uni Don but I gotta say it’s just average. The Uni tasted abit bland and not as delicate as we thought it would be, we are guessing it’s Murasaki Uni that we had. Not saying it’s a bad bowl of rice, but just not worth in flying half the globe for this. I am assuming this dish would give us good quality Uni as this bowl of Uni Don is not cheap. Also want to mention this meal is only our second dinner since we arrive Japan so our standard is still pretty low - Canadian standard 🥲.. and we came hungry for this meal so we think we would be easy to please if we are served with anything that are close to decent … We also ordered the seafood Don but the ingredients is not impressive. The seafood doesn’t have much taste, not sure why… Its slightly better than the all you can eat restaurant in Canada unfortunately. For this price and quality, it’s not my cup of tea unfortunately. That’s my opinion of course and your experience may differ.
Lamy L — Google review
Lovely restaurant, great uni, so good I had to re order 3 times. Dish sizes were just right and the sake was very good too. Great seafood experience. Atmosphere very peaceful and quiet.
The S — Google review
The absolute best kaisendon I’ve ever had! We got the chef’s special bowl and usually with these I feel like the individual pieces could be hit or miss but every was amazing, especially the uni! The sides we got were amazing as well but unfortunately they were out of the large box of uni so we couldn’t get that :(
Lisa H — Google review
We were spending summer vacation in Sapporo, & I got reference from a local magazine about this restaurant. My family been craved for Hokkaido Sea Urchin, which cost an arm and leg if we consume it in Singapore, and sometime lack the freshness. Glancing through the menu, instead of the the usual Unidon (sea urchin rice bo) or Kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), we attempted the course literally mean “fully exhaust uni specialty course”, the chef prepare the 7 course dinner from appetizers, entries, tempura, grill, mochi, steam… all with diff way of preparing the sea urchin. My family really enjoy this dinner in Sapporo. By Hokkaido standard, the price is on the high side, but it worth every thing. The Hokkaido melon soft ice cream end the Uni feast at a high notes. Extremely satisfied.

Kani Honke Sapporo station Ekimae is a renowned crab restaurant located in Sapporo, Hokkaido. This century-old establishment offers a refined dining experience with a traditional timber interior and serves an array of sophisticated seafood dishes featuring the finest-tasting crab from the cold waters around Hokkaido. The restaurant's menu includes various crab varieties such as king crab and hairy crab prepared as sashimi, steamed, or grilled to highlight their flavors.
One of the famous and popular seafood (King crab and snow crab) specialty restaurant. Reservation highly recommended.. We ordered set menu @ little over ten thousand Japanese yen per person. Every dish placed in front of us can be called a piece or art. And taste also match how it looked! They also have a great list for Japanese sales to choose from. It is great compliment to such nice meal. Only thing I wish they can improve as the English speaking for the waitresses. The communication was English speaking. Customer is quite difficult with the waitresses. But I can tell they tried very hard to and eventually understood each other.
Steven C — Google review
Ordered a crab course and a whole hairy crab with a la carte sides. Everything was very tasty and the service was top-notch. Ambience and atmosphere was inviting and relaxing. Price was reasonable for what you're getting.
Winston L — Google review
A great restaurant with a long history of serving amazing crab cuisine. The crabs we had were very fresh and the service was great. The air conditioning we find not as ideal though and while the building is historical, we wish they have done something to upgrade it while keeping the essence of their story and history. Overall still a great place to go!
Andrew P — Google review
We came to the store on a Saturday evening. Had to wait an hour before we were seated so we were given a queue number. The shop has a very quaint and traditional feel, and we were given a private room to enjoy our food in peace. The service was very prompt and the food portions are generous and yummy! 🦀 The crab nabe (hotpot) is soooo good, and the porridge made at the end was also super delicious. Definitely recommend if you want to experience Japanese traditional dining, and enjoy a yummy crabby meal!

From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure every detail was taken care of, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. Overall, the experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend this place for both great service and outstanding food

We tried something different this time and ordered à la carte anchored around the boiled king crab and hairy crab- both were fresh and tasty and the service was excellent as usual
Benjamin S — Google review
Excellent dining experience with the crab meals. Various options available. It's pricier than your usual meal, but for what is given, I think it is considered reasonable. Service was good as well. It's packed, so better to make a reservation. Walking distance from Sapporo train station.
Chiun T — Google review
Mixed feelings about the meal. If we were to recommend, go for the ~9000 yen set with crab hotpot, the crab legs taste sweeter when boiled and the staff helps to make a porridge out of the broth at the end of the meal. We also ordered the 20,000+ yen set and it was underwhelming, while they served crabs cooked in various methods, the crabs didn’t taste sweet but very dry and lack freshness. The premium part was probably only the crab leg sashimi

Hyousetsu No Mon is a well-established Japanese restaurant in Sapporo, renowned for its extensive menu featuring various crab dishes and traditional Japanese cuisine. The restaurant offers a wide range of crab species, including snow crab, hair crab, and horsehair crab, prepared in unexpected yet delightful ways such as shabu shabu, tempura, and sashimi.
Refined dining experience in Sapporo. You are greeted by attentive staff who will serve you throughout your dining journey at the restaurant. The lunch time luxury crab set is reasonably priced and came with plenty of crab and adjacent dishes. Could not fault any dish - all delicious. Absolutely recommended place if you're visiting Sapporo - be sure to book early as they run out of spots very quick!

Do yourself a favour and try this place - was my most memorable meal of our Japan holiday and the freshest, fattest and naturally sweet crab I’ve ever had. You are served in a private room and each course has carefully been prepared so that you can basically eat the crab with very minimal peeling. Service was impeccable and although it was a pricey meal, was very reasonable for the experience! Truly sensational and a highlight of Sapporo. Also, parking can be validated in the next door car park so that it is discounted.

Tradition restaurant with top notch food and service. King crab is amazingly fresh and delicious. Reservation was made 1.5 months prior. Selected a course meal that serves 5 different ways of preparation (raw, grill, hot-pot, steam, tempura style) and end of with porridge from the water from steam pot. Even the sherbet dessert is amazingly smooth and fine. An indulging experience. Does help when one speaks Japanese to the service staff. She was amazing patient and served us with her heart.

This restaurant is actually on the third floor. There are both elevator and stairs. For lunch, the last order is at 2 PM even though they close at 3 PM. The menu is in English. We were seated inside a private room where we had to remove our shoes. We sat on the pillow on the ground. A lady server had to come in and out to bring all the stuff, including shabu shabu personal stove and even a grill for the grilled crabs. For lunch, I ordered the set menu ¥6820: appetizer, cold dish, udon, shabu shabu, crab croquette, and sherbet dessert. The food was excellent. I was so excited to try the fresh crab in Hokkaido! -Credit card accepted. -Free Wifi (the sign is on the elevator, but I didn't find any in the room)

Izakaya restaurant

Fish restaurant
Koropokkuru is a cozy and popular izakaya located on the 3rd floor, offering a variety of seasonal Hokkaido foods. The restaurant is known for its fresh ingredients, including Hanasaki crab from Nemuro, sea urchin from the port, large striped Atka mackerel, and Kitaakari potatoes from Niseko. It's a bit pricey but has a warm atmosphere and is popular with locals.
Mostly all Japanese customers when I was there good quality of Hokkaido food at reasonable price.. eating crab and drink a lot of alcohol one person less than 10,000yen

Tried to eat here. They gave us a tatami room, I did not like the smell or atmosphere. I asked if I could wait for a table in the main dining area. They said I could not. There were many places we could have sat but they wanted us to stay in the tatami room. We eat and spend a lot of money everywhere we go, so I took my business to another restaurant that respects their customers. Terrible customer service.

We ordered a lot of seafood and loved everything including the black cod, abalone, eel skewers, and sushi. The variety of food but most importantly quality was very impressive. One of the best izakayas we’ve been to! The restaurant also has a great view of one of the main areas in Sapporo.

Mainly seafood dishes here. Business is very good, it’s best to book a table in advance. The closing dates are not fixed, so it’s best to check in advance.

Our first meal in Hokkaido and it was great. We went at 4pm and had to return the table at 6pm, the place was packed by the time we left. So do book in advance if you can or go early. Crab was fresh and sweet. Cod milt was nice, no fishy taste. Don’t think we had any bad food here. Service is ok, they don’t speak English but there is an English menu (doesn’t seem like it is the full menu but the popular dishes seem to be all in)

Quiet at lunch on a Sunday. We ordered crab, which in hindsight was probably an error, since crab is largely out of season. It was fine, but felt a bit small for the nearly ¥5,000 spent. The tuna sushi, similarly, was a bit disappointing. The highlight of the meal was certainly the baked potato, which was very tasty. The restaurant is large and from a different era, but clean. Our service was friendly.

good izakaya at great location. we had best 3 menu and sashimi, all of them were so delicious. they also have a variety of hokkaido sake and we were lucky to have new year sake. :) overall i would definitely recommend this place for my friends. (fyi, the price isn't as nice as the taste of food)

Wow. I really loved this place. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor I think. It's bit pricey, but the place is cozy and warm, and it's popular for locals. There are seafoods, desserts, sushi, rice and other foods for alcohol. It's an izakaya, but it's pretty fancy. There is also a seat for solo travelers, and it's comfortable. Try the Sapporo Classic beer from here! It's really good. Also try the salt ice cream( so good). For me it costed around 2000yen. Yeah it's bit pricey, but the service and the mood is nice. If you dont really like those crazy and loud izakayas, try this place. It's quite and fancy.

Walking from Nijuyonken Station through icy road.. Reaching the market after about 10 min... There are shops that sell seafood especially crabs for you to take home while others provide area for dine in - either boil or grill.. There are fresh oyster in the menu. Toilets are available in the shop..

Well worth coming. Even though I was a bit skeptical at first as my hotel did not seem to know the place and there seemed to be only a few tourists around. The place I went to took their last order at 2:30pm. BUT this was such a great experience. The uni was so creamy. The snow crab was amazingly sweet and succulent. Everything else I tried - the salmon, the tuna, the ikura, the hairy crab miso soup - everything was so good. I had to have two kaisen dons instead of one and walked away extremely satisfied.

Still believe the crab over price. Raw fish served in Restarant is very good tough. Price alike 2 條 market

Many places to choose from, pick your crab and have them cook it for you. Or order from the menu. Or they have ready cooked. We had to go with a stall with its own restaurant at the 2nd floor. Overcooked the grilled king crab. But the boiled snow crab, and surf clam was good!
Geo O — Google review
Worth to visit. Price is cheaper compared to Otaru, however having said that, Otaru Sankaku Market seafood is much nicer / fresher. Few shops to choose from. We had lunch here, friendly staff and big space, good for big groups(9 of us).

Tried melon and grape here and it was juicy and sweet. Tried king crab too while we are here and it was good. The crab is sweet and so good. Too bad we didnt get a bigger one since it was quite pricey. We got it for 15000 yen per kg and it was quite a good deal. Other places charges up to 25k per kg for a live king crab. Need to get 4-5kg next time

Navigating through Sapporo Crab Market, I felt the tourist trap undertow, but the crab freshness shone through, albeit with the expected price twists for us visitors. On the bright side, no extra charges for cooking the crab you pick. Head to the restaurant at the back for a personal touch to your crab feast. If crab isn't your thing, dive into a variety of seafood bowls – a real taste of Sapporo, with a pinch of caution for fellow travelers.

Seafood donburi restaurant
Kaisendon Umedo Sapporo Store is a must-visit for seafood lovers in Sapporo. The kaisendon here is exceptional, featuring slices of fresh seafood with delicate flavors from the surrounding oceans. Many restaurants in Sapporo use local Hokkaido rice, adding to the regional specialties. Visitors highly recommend trying the live King crabs and Hanasaki crabs, which can be boiled, grilled, or enjoyed half and half.
Before leaving Hokkaido, had enough of grilled crab, crab sashimi. I wanted to eat crab tempura! After some research, this shop looks promising. I’ve had plenty of katsudon, tendon, all kinds of donburi but crab tempura bowl is definitely a rare menu. It cost about 3900 yen which is reasonable for me! Where else you gonna find premium crab tempura donburi, other than Hokkaido? Crab tempura tasted very fresh and sweet. The batter perfectly light and crispy. Savory rich donburi sauce also delicious with Japanese rice, slightly sweet (gladly not too sweet). Overall, it’s a very premium donburi for the price. 2 big crab claws tempura along with 4 crab legs tempura. Miso soup with crab also divine, very comforting during Winter weather. I wish to try more seafood dishes like crab gratin, grilled salmon belly set meal but I could only eat so much for breakfast. Service is pretty alright. All the aunties were friendly. I’m happy to spent 4000+ yen here for such premium seafood breakfast.

The service here is excellent, and the food is delicious. They have a live crab selection at the front where you can choose your crab, and they'll prepare it for you. While the menu prices are average, the live crabs are expensive but well worth it.
Sawit K — Google review
Friendly staff. Menu was easy to read with photos. Excellent sea urchin and crab rice bowl. Crab soup that came with the set was tasty. Oysters grilled and raw were both good and meaty with the sauces provided. Scallop was fresh although a bit smaller than other Hokkaido scallop I have tried in sushi restaurants. Overall a fun experience. Went here at 7:30 am and no line. It’s a small restaurant with only a few tables. There were two Japanese families with small children came in after us and they were cared for greatly by the staff.

Came here mainly for the snow crab. Able to select our 'victim' from one of the tank. The lady suggested to have it cooked half boiled and half grilled. Overall it satisfied our snow crab craving.

This resto is located inside a market, they have big separated room. Kaisendon was a bowl of enjoyment. Bowl itself was not too big, but its full of topping. They serve fresh cut sashimi on the top, and uni taste milky. They fresh oyster was big and fresh, they serve lemon juice to neutralized the flavour. Great food and services, what an experience!!

Fresh seafood. Looks pricier than other stores but if there are not necessary add ons Eg crab soup comes in the set. Fantastic service. Shishamo was too salty for my taste
Gwen G — Google review
Visited on December 4 and 5. They had live King crabs and Hanasaki crabs. You could have the crabs boiled, grilled, or half and half. Texture of the crabs was flaky and sweet. Highly recommend to try the crabs here, but scallops and oysters are not recommended because they are a bit small and pricy. Staffs who were in charge of crab price negotiation in front spoke English. After we decided how to cook the crab, without us asking, the female staff offered to let us hold a big crab for picture taking. The chef provided us a pot of hot tea after observing us kept refilling the hot tea. That's service from the heart!

Located near Maruyama Park in Sapporo, the 円山 Holistic Bio Cafe Veggy Way is a sun-lit restaurant offering a 100% vegan menu. From popular Japanese favorites like miso and salt ramen to meat rice bowls and veggie burgers, there's something for everyone. The Chef's Lunch features creative vegan meals using seasonal ingredients, with the menu changing daily between Japanese and Western cuisine.
I have tried many vegan Ramen all over in Tokyo. This cafe serves the most delicious vegan ramen in Japan. Must try. Ordered Shio Ramen & Burger, both were delicious. Even my non-vegan friend likes the soy meat in burger. The store is located just right in front of the Maruyama Koen station which is easy and convenient to locate. The chef was kind, considerate. The place can accommodate max of ten people at a time. The atmosphere was good.

The best vegan place in Sapporo! We went there twice. The location is really close to the subway and a bigger bus station. Great mix of Ramen, fast food and desserts. So you can go there for different kinds of meals. Also the staff was really friendly and the Cafe itself has a nice atmosphere.

What a delightful surprise to find a vegan restaurant near subway station on our way to the Hokkaido Shrine! While I do not 100% practice veganism, as a foodie I do take great joy in trying new and unique foods. This place absolutely delivered a great meal. We recommend either the burger or the teriyaki bowl. The homemade ginger ale and cola were also fantastic.
Eric B — Google review
We found this incredible plant-based gem close to the Hokkaido Shrine and park. So many great menu options to choose from. We left feeling extremely satisfied but overly full. We simply ate way too much. But everything was so delicious!!! When in Hokkaido, you have to try the miso ramen. The Veggy Way miso ramen is the absolute best ramen I have tried in Japan. So rich and flavorful! The noodles and veggies are perfectly prepared and balanced. My husband got the teriyaki burger. We also had to try the Hokkaido fried chicken (soy protein). Everything was so good. We topped the meal off with a soft serve Sundae made with soy milk and covered with chocolate sauce and crisp almond bits. I ordered the vegan butter sand - yuzu and raspberry. Pay heed - these are not small portions. We have learned to order several dishes since most dishes are much smaller. Not so here!! These portions are much larger. And their lemonade and ginger ale are really good, too. Oh, and some items are made gluten-free. Everything in the menu is clearly labeled. If you’re in the area, you don’t want to miss this place. It’s definitely worth the trip!

Japanized western restaurant
Nestled in the northern capital of Sapporo, Suyama captures the essence of Kyoto's elegance and culinary artistry. This charming restaurant is a labor of love, run solely by its passionate owner-chef who skillfully highlights the local ingredients reminiscent of traditional Tokyo or Kyoto cuisine. The bright and inviting interior sets a regal tone for diners, while unique offerings like their addictive mustard dressing and premium Nanatsuboshi rice elevate each dish.
(Translated by Google) September 2024 Revisiting the miraculous Western food restaurant! Thank you again for your help. The prices are the same as last year, and the menu is almost the same. In Sapporo, Susukino is overflowing with customers from overseas and the prices at all the restaurants are going up, but it's a miracle that you can eat this kind of food at this price at a Western restaurant. I often go to a Western restaurant called Copan in Narita, but overall, including the price, In my opinion, they are two of the best. The BGM by Aoi Teshima also matches the atmosphere of the restaurant and is soothing. 2023 I used it when I returned home. I ordered a dinner for 1,580 yen and a draft beer. The draft beer came with an appetizer. After a while, Appetizers, cold soups, salads, main dishes, desserts, and coffee (tea, cocoa) are served in order, depending on how the meal progresses. At this price, you can enjoy the deliciousness of both hot and cold dishes in courses rather than pre-prepared meals. Of course, the taste was different from course meals costing tens of thousands of yen, but each item was carefully prepared and all were delicious. This is a restaurant where you can relax and enjoy a delicious meal with alcohol when you have time. My wife and I visited her for two days in a row. Thank you for the meal. I thought that if there was a store like this in my neighborhood, I would be able to enjoy a lot of things with my friends and family. When you first enter the store, the stylish atmosphere of the store gives you the feeling of a long-established Western restaurant (ノ∀\*) I looked at the lunch menu and ordered omelet rice, and my partner ordered hamburger demi sauce♪ It seemed like the owner, the chef, was making the food all by himself, and there was a sign at the entrance that it would take some time, so I had to wait a while. You can see that the food is prepared with great care and the atmosphere in which it is cooked. Salad was served first, and the omelet rice looked beautiful! The two colors of sauce were also carefully applied, and when I took a bite, the depth of flavor and the balance between the eggs and the contents was perfect, something I couldn't get at home ヾ(*´▽`*)ノ My partner's hamburger steak was homemade and delicious, and the demi-sauce and accompanying vegetables were also very delicious! Without knowing that, I thought it would be a problem if it was crowded at lunchtime, so I made a reservation and went in. The interior is bright and sunny, and the original mustard dressing, which is also sold in bottles, has a tangy taste that makes you addicted to it. Apparently they use Nanatsuboshi for rice. The hamburger comes with two sauces: demi sauce and grated sauce. I ordered grated sauce. The hamburger itself has a good amount of spice, and rather than being meaty, it has a texture that feels like it has been carefully prepared. The menu features visually stunning dishes that highlight produce from his hometown of Minami-Kayane, ensuring each plate tells a story.
The private and cozy ambience was perfect for a date. The food was fantastic as well. The chef was very friendly and created and engaging experience. Thank you.

One man chef running everything, so come by to try bold flavours only if you can wait. The mocktails x3 pairing was superb (e. g. tea base, non alcoholic gin tonic, haskap base beverage). The chef tried to explain in English (tks for trying!), but his strength is still in Japanese, ao i think we missed out on the crucial details during each item's explanation. Chef had some nice touches on little things (eg menthol scented wet towel), and he was pushing the envelope on some dishes (e.g. bittergourd for fine dining? pufferfish tempura?). The first half was strong, but we felt there was too much use of cheese for 2 carbs dish (pasta / risotto) that it was hard to appreciate / differentiate. Although there was no menu given for ref, the dishes were generally done well, especially the smoked bonito and soup dish. We finished our dinner course in 2hours. Place had a 5 seater counter, and another table for group of 5 / 6. Restaurant is on 2nd floor corner of a non descript building, stairs also work (if you are coming from other side of building). Credit card payment is ok! With abit more help, i think the chef should be able to focus more on cooking.

This is a can’t miss place if you are in Sapporo. The food was absolutely fantastic. Local ingredients, cooked perfectly, just enough fusion without being cliché. Extremely intimate and cozy place. Unique wine list. Lovely owner/chef. Cannot say enough good things about this place.

Innovative cuisine that really fuses Hokkaido cuisine with western influence while retaining its Japanese character. It's a one-man show: the bar seats 5, and the chef does everything himself: a ne man show by a true creative artist. We got the best corn soup we found in Hokkaido, or Japan in general (better than at 3 star Sezanne, for example). Echoes of Gazpacho and Risotto in Japanese form reverberate across several dishes. A truly unique experience. The wine pairing, made of relatively simple wines and Sake, works very well. A unique experience.

I’ve never written a bad review before, but this restaurant deserves my first one. It was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. My husband made a reservation to celebrate my birthday. Before booking, we carefully read through the restaurant’s website, and nowhere did it say that babies are not welcome or that guests shouldn’t bring a child. We brought our 1-year-old son with us—not to eat, but simply because we couldn’t leave him alone at the hotel. As soon as the chef noticed we had a baby, his reaction completely shocked me. He looked visibly anxious and kept repeating, “Why baby? Why baby? Why baby? Why?” I was confused and asked, “Excuse me? What’s wrong with the baby?” He replied, “You know, here is a restaurant.” I asked, “So, are babies not allowed to stay?” Then he started speaking in Japanese, which I couldn’t understand at all. He continued to sigh loudly in front of me the entire time, making the atmosphere incredibly uncomfortable. I was so disappointed and lost all mood to enjoy the meal. I sat there feeling extremely uncomfortable—like sitting on pins and needles—and I was close to tears. After the third course, I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I picked up my baby and left the restaurant. I waited outside until my husband finished the meal. Afterward, I used Google Translate to express my frustration to the owner. Unfortunately, his attitude was extremely dismissive and unacceptable. I pointed out that their website says nothing about babies being prohibited. He kept insisting that it was written there, but I made it clear that the only thing mentioned is that there is no children’s menu—that does NOT mean babies are not allowed in the restaurant. I’m extremely disappointed, especially with the way the owner treated us. It was absolutely not worth the money we spent. To anyone considering this restaurant, please be aware: it’s located in a very old and rundown apartment building. The hallways, entrance, and dining space are all extremely narrow and not particularly comfortable. The owner also states on the website that guests are not allowed to wear perfume to avoid ruining the experience—but ironically, the restaurant is filled with a strong scent of essential oils. My husband and I spent over 40,000 yen, and for what? The food was honestly just average. The environment, the service, and the attitude were all far below expectations. It completely ruined my birthday. For that price, we could’ve easily gone to a more reputable restaurant with a better atmosphere and actual hospitality. Please think twice before booking this place. [UPDATE-RESPONSE TO THE OWNER’S REPLY] I HAVE SAID IT A THOUSAND TIMES: IT IS NOT CLEARLY STATED ONLINE THAT BABIES ARE NOT PERMITTED. ON THE ENGLISH MENU, YOU DIDN’T SAY YOU DON’T ACCEPT CHILDREN — YOU ONLY SAID THAT YOU DON’T HAVE A CHILDREN’S MENU AND DON’T SERVE THEM. THAT DOES NOT MEAN CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STAY WITH US. IT’S ABOUT SERVING, NOT ACCEPTING! YOU REALLY SHOULD ASK SOMEONE WHO IS FLUENT IN BOTH ENGLISH AND JAPANESE TO CHECK YOUR ENGLISH WEBSITE. MAYBE IT’S WRITTEN ON THE JAPANESE PAGE, BUT IT IS DEFINITELY NOT ON THE ENGLISH ONE. AND IF YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT WHAT YOU WROTE IN ENGLISH IS CLEAR, THEN I HAVE TO SAY: IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT CLEAR AT ALL. I WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY ONE IMPORTANT POINT: YOUR WEBSITE SAYS, “WE DO NOT OFFER A CHILDREN’S MENU. WE ONLY SERVE CUSTOMERS WHO CAN EAT THE SAME FOOD AS ADULTS.” THIS DOES NOT CLEARLY SAY THAT BABIES OR CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE RESTAURANT. IT ONLY MEANS THAT YOU DO NOT SERVE FOOD TO CHILDREN — NOT THAT THEY CANNOT BE PRESENT. IF YOUR POLICY IS THAT BABIES CANNOT STAY IN THE RESTAURANT EVEN WITHOUT EATING, THEN YOU SHOULD CLEARLY STATE THAT. YOUR CURRENT WORDING IS AMBIGUOUS AND EASY TO MISUNDERSTAND, ESPECIALLY FOR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS. BTW, I’M NOT SURE IF THE SO-CALLED JAPANESE MINT SCENT IS REALLY MEANT TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE, OR IF IT’S BEING USED TO COVER UP ODORS FROM THE BUILDING, WHICH IS QUITE OLD—BUT THE AROMA IS EXTREMELY STRONG AND OVERWHELMING!

Really nice fusion of classic Hokkaido and western cuisine. It’s all run by the chef and is a unique and worthwhile experience!

(Translated by Google) Small portions... I'm skeptical of Google reviews. It's a one-person operation. It might be good for foreigners... I thought they couldn't fool Japanese people. I ordered a course meal. The only soft drinks available were three for 5,000 yen. (Non-alcoholic cocktail style) Ordering soft drinks would be a waste. The ingredients are sourced from Hokkaido. However, the dishes were all...meh. If you've ever eaten at a decent restaurant...you'll know right away. The restaurant's concept is to serve Hokkaido ingredients lively over the counter... The owner's unfriendly attitude really ruins that concept. The owner wrote in a previous comment that he understands and respects the restaurant's philosophy and the space it creates, but why not start by thanking the customers for coming? It's not even worth going into detail. In the end, the bill came to 50,000 yen. Details... (total for two people) I think it was 40,000 yen for the food and 10,000 yen for the drinks. With that food and drinks...it felt like a rip-off! It's terrible. Service Their responses were simply unfriendly. The customer service was truly the worst. The food wasn't particularly tasty, so I feel like saying, "Can't they at least improve their service?" What exactly did they rate it on? I really have no idea. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I wasted my money and time. Looking at my previous comments, I'm sure the owner will probably refute my comments and justify his actions, but... This is a place where users can choose a restaurant, pay money, eat there, and rate it. Those who see this are free to believe whatever they want. However, I wouldn't recommend this place to my friends. I distrust Google's ratings. It is a one-operator. It may be good for foreigners... Japanese could not be fooled. We ordered a course meal. Soft drinks are only 5,000 yen for 3 drinks. (Non-alcoholic cocktail style) If you ask for soft drinks, you will lose money! The ingredients are from Hokkaido. However, the food is all...subtle. If you have eaten at a restaurant of that caliber...you will know right away. It is not worth detailing in detail. At the end of the day, the bill was 50,000. The details are... It's like 40,000 for the food and 10,000 for the drinks. With that food and drinks...it feels like a rip-off! Customer Service The owner has a bad attitude. What do you rate them for... and how do you rate them now? I really wonder. I would not recommend them to anyone. I Wasted my money and time!
