Located on Gouger Street, Star House is Adelaide's premier Chinese restaurant. The menu offers a variety of dishes from barbecue pork to Sichuan chicken and there are three sitting times each day to choose from. On weekends, the trolley service operates so diners can quickly order their favourites.
Whenever I crave Yum Cha, this place is always my go-to. The service is fantastic, and it's never hard to get a table. They offer a wide variety of dishes, and everything I’ve tried has been delicious. Here’s my list of must-tries: • Entrée: BBQ pork buns, prawn and scallop dumplings, and shallot pancake are all amazing. The hot and sour seafood soup is also something you can’t miss. • Mains: Honey Prawns, Mapo Bean Curd with Pork Hot Pot, and Supreme Fish Fillets in Hot Chilli Sauce are definitely the standout dishes. • Dessert: Custard Pie is absolutely irresistible.

We got the last outside table. Table was already set and covered in dust from being outside. had a chip in a water glass Food came out quickly but one of our items were missed and never arrived. I requested for a glass of watermelon juice and received a jug. it wasn't even cold and didn't have any use in it. Overall,a pleasant experience but was abit expensive for a Chinese restaurant

I had a wonderful experience at Star House! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, the staff was friendly, and everything was well taken care of. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to relax and enjoy. Will definitely be back!

had lunch yesterday— portion was sooo big and the truffle fried rice was so rich in truffle flavour but not overpowering. soo many dishes to choose from- took us agesss to start ordering! amazing staff members! best thing was that we can order from the dinner menu as well!

Went for yum cha. Very average and similar in taste to Chinatown food court. Not bad but not great either. I don’t have a problem paying higher prices for quality food but everything was extremely overpriced for average yum Cha. $12 for one serve of steamed dumplings is beyond ridiculous. Ding Hao around the corner is way better in taste and pricing.
Lily T — Google review
Came in for a lunch Yum Cha and thought the meals were decent. Serving sizes and taste of the dishes were good. Service was good too. It was one of the quite lunch and therefore wasn't as busy as a week night.
Peter T — Google review
I didn’t like how unfriendly the staff was when taking notes of our order. It could be that they’re exhausted as we arrived at the restaurant near the time to their closing hour (we ordered around 9pm), but still this was annoying, so ⭐️⭐️⭐️for this service. Fresh lobster was paid off. Understandable that the price was high. We enjoyed so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Yes, parking was difficult to find.

Takeout Restaurant
Citi Zen Restaurant, established in 2002, is a renowned Chinese restaurant in Adelaide that offers traditional Cantonese cuisine and an authentic yum cha experience. Despite its unusual location in a former Irish pub, the interior exudes elegance with lacquer chairs and lanterns replacing the old furnishings. The spacious restaurant can accommodate up to 350 guests and is known for its extensive yum cha menu featuring popular dishes like dumplings, prawn rolls, and Singapore noodles.
I went here for dinner yesterday. It was a very nice and pleasant place to dine at. It was quiet and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a great selection of food and beverages. I thoroughly recommend eating here, you won't regret it.
Tim A — Google review
Came here and had the all you can eat buffet. The service here is quick, but it was the type that you have to wait for the food to come to you,so most of the time we had to wait for 10-20 minutes until we got something that we liked. As time passed more customers gradually came and the place was packed with people. This caused that many of the food that we really wanted came out the kitchen was gone before it got close to us. Although, the way the food is served was weird for me,but some of the food was pretty good, such as the chicken feet. I HAVE TO SAY THIS: It is an all you can eat. When I had too much food the person told that we should leave some for the others. I was so shocked, like what do you mean. Another that happened was the women serving the dessert dropped the mango pudding of the tray and some on the floor. The person passing by told her to clean it up,she did throw the ones on the floor but pretended the ones that fell out the plate was still clean and tried to serve it to us. Because we saw it we asked her politely to have a different piece and she just looked at us with disbelief and rolled her eyes. BAD SERVICE. Quality of food:2/5 taste good but some hygiene problem Atmosohere:3.5/5 Service:2/5 Will I come back:Maybe? But unlikly

When we first walked into this place it was like wow. The ambience and decor were quite impressive. The food unfortunately I could not rate the same. We ordered the spring rolls for entree, Sichuan lamb and the special fried rice. Don't get me wrong, the taste was nearly there, but if you are going to put exuberant prices, make sure the meal lives up to the price. Sichuan spice should leave your tongue numb with a peppery taste. This felt like it had black pepper and no real zing of chili. And my thoughts on special fried rice would have been something additional to the ordinary pork, egg and green onion flavoring which go into this old favorite. Nothing special about this. And there was no hint of soy sauce in this traditional rice dish. Not worth $18. These dishes have been designed for the Western bland taste of Adelaide which I'm not getting used to very quickly. Cannot wait to go back home for real food.

Dinner before the markets. Beautiful place. Great atmosphere, polite and friendly service, awesome tasty authentic Chinese food.
Michelle D — Google review
Can not fault the food, the service and the price!! Staff were great, funny and even played along with our jokes. Food was insane, not a bad meal and the flavour was great. Restaurant was super clean and inviting and we will absolutely come back. if you haven't been and want great Chinese food...its a must try!!
Peta S — Google review
Service staff were good but it's confusing unless you have been to this establishment before. Yum cha was decent but no menu, so you have to know what they have and what you want or you say yes to what's being offered to your table and hopefully the offerings appeal to you or you get a variety of choices. My drink order was incorrect twice but the food was ok for the price. I'll go back again to try this place, because I want to like it and I see great potential for this place. Disabled people will find it hard to navigate the dining areas and no place to store a walker. I did request this in my booking.

Food was fantastic. Service was first class, very friendly and loved the chat. It was a reasonably quiet night allowing staff to interact. Everything was reasonably priced, including the well appointed wine list.

The Chinese restaurant Chef Dong is a must-visit in Adelaide for Cantonese and Fujianese food lovers. The simple bar serves local wines and beers, while the menu offers classic dishes such as roast duck, Peking duck and steamed trout. A must-have for any visitor to Adelaide is the chance to try some of the delicious vegan dishes on offer here, too!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Me caveman. Me march through Payneham plains with cavewoman and mighty mother-in-law. Bellies empty, spirits weak. Then we see the fire sign: Chef Dong. Name make tribe chuckle. But inside, food make tribe roar like thunder. We feast like kings of old. Giant rib of beast, meat falling away like it surrender to the tribe. Murray cod, slain and smothered in red river sauce, bones crack and flesh melt. Scallops in shells glitter with garlic jewels, fried rice mountain bursting with treasure grains, kung pao chicken fiery like volcano spirit. Even soup of corn and chicken soothe soul like warm sun after storm. Cavewoman smile. Mother-in-law grunt with joy — no complaints, only nods of respect. Tribe united around great feast. Belly so full tapeworm inside me cry for mercy. Chef Dong is not just cook. He is big chief of flavour, warrior of wok, master of fire. We beat chest, raise hands to sky, and declare: FIVE STARS TO THE BIG DONG.

I don't normally write review but I feel like I have to do for this place. I had a dinner with family and friends like 4 adults and 4kids . Firstly portion of dish is way too small and not worth the price. I ordered 7 dishes initially but that wasn't enough for 8 ppl(4 kids) so had to order one more dish. Salt and pepper chicken was all over the batter crumbs and hardly found actual chicken meat. Braised pork was dry and tough.. I couldn't believe this is braised pork. The rest of dish were also below average. I spent 280$for the dinner but tummy wasn't full and food was below average. Even My 9 yrs old girl told me she doesn't wanna go back and not worth the money at all. Secondly the male staff was not friendly at all My husband wanted to confirm the dish we ordered, he seemed afraid we might change the menu and showing that face like" what are u talking about, and saying we don't have that dish" I was shocked that he gave us that attitude. Thirdly food came out one by one slowly meantime I had to remind them to serve rice and our drinks several times. I'm not even Chinese but I can say I can cook way better than their food. So am I going bk ?? No way. That was the worst Chinese restaurant whole my life
Sarah P — Google review
The food at Chef Dong is fantastic, especially the pork ribs—they were tender, flavorful, and truly the highlight of our meal. We also ordered two servings of steamed rice, which were generously portioned by the restaurant. The Chef Dong Special Pork Ribs were an absolute delight, cooked to perfection with a rich taste. The Peking duck was tasty, though the skin wasn’t as crispy as I had hoped—it’s something I think could be improved. The honey chicken, while flavorful, was unfortunately too chewy in parts and hard to bite through, though a few pieces were nice. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely come back to try more dishes. For me, this place deserves a solid 4.5 out of 5.
Nhi L — Google review
Big restaurant with an expensive atmospheric vibe. However the food portion is so small for sharing at a large table. Food was generally hit and miss as well. Peking duck was alright. But the duck meat only got served half a plate. Mapo tofu was nice. Honey chicken was good as well. The ribs were not tender enough and the pork hock was so dry. Generally expensive for such small portions

I visited Adelaide on the 11th September and my son and his wife took me for dinner to Chef Dong at Payneham Rd, St Peters SA 5069. My son and his wife are regular customers at this resturant. The resturant was awsome, including the food and staff. The lady who served us Tao was very attentative and helpful too. When my son to told her it was my birthday she even gave a surprise in getting me a small complimentary ice cream cake with a lit candle. The fresh spicy mud crab I had was prepaired so very well. I have decided to visit this resturant many more time to enjoy the fresh mud crab before I get back home to Sydney. I wish all the staff at Chef Dong's resturant the very best for the future of the resturant in syaing, "You don't just serve food; you craft experiences. May every dish tell a story and every visit create a lasting memory". "For many, dining here is an event. Continue to be a place where people connect, celebrate, and find joy in the universal pleasure of very good food". "You create delicious memories, not just meals. Keep sharing your passion and the world will keep coming back for more"
Roshan R — Google review
Visited the restaurant with my friends. The food is alright but did attract a decent number of people. Service is considered good and the staff speak to you with respect. I think may not be the chef's day today or just the wrong dish ordered. Location is good and cleanliness of restaurant is also great. The tea is proper good, get it. Would be able to recommend but not the best location for Chinese option.

Thank you for a delicious yum cha again! Our favourite dishes are chicken feet, pork ribs and all the dumplings. Everything is always spot on.
Sophia T — Google review
Great Chinese restaurant, tables were tightly packed and full, staff were turning people away lining up outside who hadn’t booked on a busy Sunday afternoon. Parking out front is limited but there’s plenty of spots on St Peter’s street with a larger car park behind too. The banquet was excellent, good serving sizes and great to share with friends. There were lobsters fresh on display in their tanks too.

This popular chinese restaurant is known for its big plates of sweet and sour pork as well as its hot pots. It has a casual atmosphere and queues often out the door.
I just tried the food here and I really liked it. The service was also fast. My favorite was the king prawn rice pastry — highly recommended! I’ll definitely come back again. Parking is on the street, with some paid spots, but there are also free ones available. also for the price around start $10

Good place! It’s hard to find somewhere to eat late at night, but this place is open until late, so we enjoyed dinner here :) All the staff provided great hospitality, and the food was amazing👍 Unfortunately, the duck had a slight smell. However, the meat was incredibly tender and soft worth trying if it’s prepared a bit better. The yam cha was excellent! I highly recommend trying the king prawn dumplings and the chive and prawn dumplings they were delicious!

We came this restaurant for a late dinner. It was not too busy, and the waitress who served us was really friendly and helpful. She recommended that we should try their veg with scallops, which was the highlight of the day. We spent about $160 altogether, and 3 of us were well fed. Highly recommended if you are craving food around midnight.

Ding Hao was the most satisfying restaurant my wife and I visited during our trip to Adelaide. The dim sum was excellent, but the sweet sour pork was not much different from the ones in the food court. I recommend making a reservation when you visit.
Ken — Google review
Good dim sums, good services, and a clean environment. So far, it was my best yum cha experience in Adelaide. They are quite busy on weekend afternoon. Make a booking for a table is a must. I made my booking by phone call (Google Map didn't show any booking link), and speaking Cantonese for booking is definitely ok as they are authentic Cantonese dim sum👍😆 Xiao Long Bao is not a Cantonese dim sum (it's originated from Jiangnan region like Jiangsu, Shanghai etc.) so they were the most disappointed ones from our meal. Having said that, all other dim sums were awesome, and we enjoyed the meal.

First time back since new location & didn’t disappoint in fact the welcome & service was fantastic. A very well lit restaurant. The food was incredible which made Date night even better. Our meals arrived within 15min. Definitely taking our daughter to try it, highly recommend it to experience. Was Saturday night & packed. Well done!

Came here for dinner with the girls. The food was delicious but incredibly expensive. All the dishes are very small. To save on money we ended up sharing everything NO SPLIT BILLS come on srsly. We were all standing there sending my girl, who paid, our split of cash. I recommend the Mongolian lamb and satay chicken. Service was so so, the lady was rushing around with minimal customers for the night, when she came to the table with the food she yelled out PHONNEE to tell me I needed to move my phone on the table so she could place the food down while holding two other plates of food. Just take your time and calm down a bit. Service felt off I didn't feel welcome. Fried rice large was $18 😂 Bottle of sparkling water $10 😂 Won't be back to be honest.

Restaurant
House Of Chow Restaurant offers a laid-back dining experience with familiar Chinese dishes and banquets. The restaurant is known for its exquisite food, relaxed atmosphere, and a massive aquarium tank that adds to the ambiance. With over 30 years of experience, House Of Chow has established itself as a top destination for quality Asian cuisine and exceptional service.
This place has received word-of-mouth reputation for many years. It’s very famous for many Adelaideans! -Environment: The ambience makes you fly back to old Chinese style in the 20th century! -Price: Avg. $40-60 -Recommend food: Oysters, Shrimps, and lots of seafood. Peking duck is not bad 💕❤️ -Service: Staff members are pretty attentive, and the owner is very humble 😊

I went there for the first time, though some of my group had been here before. I was blown away not only by the service but by the food as well. It was amazing. We opted to have our food baquet stlye. We had chicken & sweetcorn soup, prawn fritters, spring rolls, chicken satays & Dim Sims for entrees. For the mains, we had sweet & sour pork, mongolian lamb, lemongrass chicken, sizzling mongolian beef, Peking Duck, steamed rice & special fried rice. For dessert, we had creme brule, deep fried ice cream, hazelnut roche icecream and chocolate mousse. For drinks, we had French coffee, iced coffee, coffee & Chinese tea. I really was struggling to finish my desert, but I couldn't leave it as it was amazing, like the entire meal. I found the prawn fritters a bit oily for my taste, but they weren't bad. My favourites were the satay chicken, special fried rice, mongolian lamb, lemongrass chicken & the hazelnut roche ice cream dessert. If you want to park closer to the restaurant due to mobility issues, I recommend you come at 6 - 6.20pm as they fill up fast.
Cara M — Google review
This restaurant serves Chinese-style food with a Western twist, so it’s not your typical take on traditional Chinese cuisine. If you’re craving Chinese food, Hong Kong is the place to be. This restaurant is nowhere near it. We were astonished by the mantis shrimp. Chinese cuisine doesn’t usually deep-fry them and cut them in half like a lobster. The lamb tasted like regular beef. I didn’t even realize it was a lamb dish until my friend pointed it out. They used the same sauce to fry the lamb and duck dishes, and they tasted exactly the same. A bit of a letdown, to be honest. The duck dish is acceptable, except for the fact that they used the sauce to fry it. The only complaint I have is that the duck is too lean and tough. The duck was clearly imported from Africa. The oysters were not up to par. The waiter service was satisfactory, although the use of a stainless steel ice bucket to store the rice and a porcelain spoon for serving rice resulted in rice sticking to the spoon and preventing it from falling into the customer’s bowl. This way of serving rice in Chinese cuisine is totally “unique"! After all, it is still a 'good' experience.

An institution in Adelaide. Some westernised classics but also decent Cantonese dishes. We came on Sunday and it was still busy. Best to book. They have an extensive dessert menu. There is also a separate gluten free menu.
Mick C — Google review
Nice meal and friendly service. There is a good atmosphere and we enjoyed being seated near the aquarium.
Shane — Google review
Lovely nostalgic Chinese dining experience. Our first time and we spontaneously went on a Saturday for a late lunch and it was delicious. The separate Gluten Free menu was wonderful. To have that level of consideration in such a large venue and with such a large menu is excellent. We look forward to returning and working our way through both menus! Staff were really attentive and friendly.

Concubine is a Chinese fusion restaurant located on Gouger Street in Adelaide. The opulent space is illuminated by lanterns and offers a classy and subdued atmosphere, setting it apart from other Asian restaurants in the area. The menu features locally sourced ingredients crafted into mostly classic dishes with a modern twist. One of their standout dishes is the salt and pepper tofu, which perfectly balances umami and spice while offering a satisfying crunch.
This Chinese fusion restaurant is an absolute gem! I love the stuffed eggplant with minced prawn! I like the creamy texture of that. And the squids are delicious, too. Every dish is beautifully presented, with a depth of flavor that keeps you wanting more. Therefore, I went with my family again at Christmas. This time, I tried the pad thai and tossed wok black pepper beef(it’s the special menu) is perfectly tender with a rich, savory sauce that’s simply irresistible. This fusion of asian recipes with modern twists elevates the dining experience to another level. The service is attentive, the waiting staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Love the design of the restaurant, esp the Shanghai Room upstairs. I definitely will visit it soon! A must-visit in Adelaide❤️‍🔥

Everything about our visit to Concubine was amazing! Staff were super friendly and accommodating. The food was the best we've had in years. I had the lamb sticky ribs for entree, nice big size dish, and the lamb was delicious and soooo soft! For main I had the Pork belly and once again the meat was amazingly cooked - very soft and moist, subtle flavours and a very soft dish. Top stuff guys, keep up the great work!

Went here Friday night to celebrate a birthday and we felt so special. Service was amazing, food was delicious and I can’t wait to go back. We were seated in such a lovely spot too. A little dessert with a sparkler came out and they even took the cutest Polaroid photo for us. Honestly one of my favourite places I’ve been. Thank you so much for helping us celebrate a special day. We appreciate all the effort. Big love!

It just wasn't my jam. I ordered "spring rolls" and they were fried. In the USA they are actually spring rolls in a clear, rice wrap. The food was way too spicy for me. I found every dish too spicy. I wish the menu would say which dish is spicey. I like zero spice.

Very nice food and atmosphere. But the service is the best. Carmen sorted out a 50th function for me for 11 adults and 6 children. And it was great! Thanks again!

We celebrated an event as a group of 13 and enjoyed the premium banquet. The food was amazing, and plenty for everyone. Service was friendly but could have been a bit quicker with taking orders for drinks. Overall a lovely meal and evening with everyone leaving happy.

Ying Chow Chinese Restaurant is a vibrant culinary gem that captures the essence of a bustling Beijing street market right in the heart of Gouger Street. This beloved spot is known for its generous portions and lively atmosphere, making it a favorite among locals. The menu features an array of delectable dishes, including their standout salt and pepper bean curd—a delightful vegetarian option that perfectly balances crunch and spice at an affordable price.
We had no reservation, and they only had 35 mins till the next booking arrived, we ordered in 1.5mins and was out in 35 mins. We had the Tea Smoked Duck, it was amazing!! Crispy on the outside yet moist and succulent on the inside. Second dish was tofu with pork mince and pickled cabbage, equally good and great tasting!! We’ll be back!!

We ordered tea smoked duck, fried rice and braised beef brisket. Duck was perfectly cooked with hint of smoked flavour but not super juicy. Brisket was average. Fried rice was nice with limited meat but lots of bean sprouts inside. (I love vegetables). Overall food flavour was a bit plain for us to eat with steam rice, but if eat them as it is it’s perfect. We took away some beef and duck, and ate it next day it tasted much better probably because the sauce went inside the meat already. It’s a small restaurant without much interior decoration. But the service was excellent. All the staff were very attentive with smile on their face and they also created a good vibe for the restaurant. I’m willing to go back and try other dishes.

Glad to find the best Chinese spot in town! Food was amazing, all the meats were very juicy and tender. Pork clay pot and crispy duck were beautiful! Friendly staff with a lovely smile. Really enjoyed our evening here :) Highly recommened

The staff at Ying Chow were amazing, they were so friendly and helpful, smiles all the time and very attentive. We enjoyed entrees of chicken and corn soup very nice, thick with pulled chicken, Dim Sims, steamed with generous and tasty filling, curry puffs and satay chicken kebabs. We had the smoked duck pieces with a tea sauce, again generous served and nicely cooked, the fresh prawn and sugar pea dish had a lovely sauce with a perfect cook on the prawn. I can't remember the names of the two other dishes but they were also full of flavour .

Absolute class and the perfect example of "simple, yet effective" We came here on a late night out and had very basic requirements - late night delicious Chinese food Looking at Ying Chow from the outside it doesn't look like anything special, but you couldn't be more wrong with that assumption. As you approach you start seeing their accolades Then the food starts coming out.. all I can say is wow Their menu size isn't as large as other Chinese restaurants but every single thing that comes out is quick and quality China town is FULL of options but to me this place is great for a late night feed with friends. Give it a chance, I'm sure you'll be impressed

Late night dinners @yingchowchineserestaurant pictured here are some of my favourites go-to dishes. It’s a casual and friendly place with tasty Chinese food and decent sized portions. The staff are super friendly and menu prices vary which is good because you could name this place as either a “cheap eats” or ya regular Chinese restaurant if that makes any sense. I always opt for this place when I’m feeling like wholesome Asian food or it’s late & haven’t had dinner yet!

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Adelaide. Have been going there for years, always consistently good - run by smart Chinese who know about good customer service. Simple, no fuss, no attitude, & so reasonably priced. Love it. The favourites are the Shallot Pancakes to start with. Deep fried shredded beef is sweet & crispy - so moreish. BBC = Broad bean, Bean curd & Chinese chutney - my absolute FAVE - can’t get enough of this one. Granny's Bean Curd Clay Pot With beef mince has a nice gentle chilli kick. Salt & Pepper Squid on this occasion was a tad average - unusually so. But overall, the meal was a total feast enjoyed by the family. Can’t wait to go back.

T-Chow Chinese Restaurant is a vibrant gem nestled in the heart of Chinatown, renowned for its lively atmosphere and delectable offerings. This spacious eatery invites diners to indulge in an array of authentic Chinese dishes, with crispy duck taking center stage alongside must-try shallot pancakes. T-Chow's menu boasts unique items that are hard to find elsewhere in Australia, making it a culinary treasure for those seeking genuine flavors reminiscent of China.
Lovely restaurant in Chinatown, Adelaide. Service was excellent- very attentive to our needs. I am Coeliac and was assured my meal was safe. It was not only safe, it was absolutely delicious. Big serves. We watched others getting their meals and they were all huge serves, hot and fresh. Ate too much as we didn’t want to waste any - too good. We will definitely return.

I really enjoyed this one One in my company didn't but I reckon maybe 🤔 flavour or pallate difference? I knew what to expect but they also delivered and it was very quick, service was fast 🏃‍♀️. It was almost full house but I thought the food was very consistent quality. You can also buy live fish and crabs and lobster there..I didn't but there is that option. Restaurant was clean and felt like you were in a nice Chinese restaurant Loud but not uncomfortable loud, I thought it was a nice place to have a big group too Based on that experience I would definitely come back again

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, Chinese restaurants aren't renowned for service unless you're going to flower-drum in Melbourne, t-chow is always good, service is fine, and food is always as it should be.

This was not a great meal at all. We definitely would not come back. The prawn & pork dumplings lacked flavour & the sauce that came with it was awful. The fried rice was really good & had a nice smokey flavour. Satay chicken was nice, compared to the salt & pepper squid. It was tough & overcooked, so it wasn't easy to eat. The sizzling beef with ginger shallot was oversalted & the meat tasted off. We all agreed to give it a 1 star, a $$$ 1 star, if it hadn't been for the rice we'd probably rate it a 0 star.

Ordered Uber eats! Terrible quality Should have checked the google reviews! For Food quality is below average. An example the salted fish fried rice was 21 bucks! Basically it was rice with half an egg in it with some spring onions, for a cost of under 1.50!. See for yourself in the image! Totally cheat you out of what you think you paid for! Uber don't even have an option to accept this type of complaints where the dishes are not what it says it is! Shocking quality. For total spent of 130 bucks you can imagine how cheated i feel with all my other dishes!!

Got the crispy fried pork with garlic. Honestly, it was horrible. Just plain fried pork with some fried garlic sprinkled on top. No flavour at all. Absolutely disappointed. Gave 1 star only because the staff was nice and it’s mandatory to select a star. Not recommended. Not worth the price.

Tuesday lunch in May. Staff were friendly. Food was nice. We had spring rolls, shallot pancake, pork and prawn dumplings, crispy duck, Chinese greens and special fried rice. Very fresh ingredients. Quick service. The rice was a bit on the sweet side for us, not sure if there was MSG used as we both had a bit of dry mouth but could just have been us on the day. The duck was lovely.

The discrimination was blatant — clear differential treatment towards customers. From the moment we entered the restaurant with our child until we finished our meal, the two female staff members wore cold, indifferent expressions. When we ordered, one of them even glared at us with a discriminatory look, rolled her eyes, and walked away without saying a word. Meanwhile, a group of local Australian men at the next table were greeted with flattery and smiles from the same waitress. It was laughable. I’ve been dining here since twenty years ago — I never expected to encounter such behavior after all these years. The male staff, on the other hand, treated everyone equally.

Empress Restaurant is a delightful culinary gem located on Greenhill Road, just across from Burnside Village. This airy venue boasts a modern ambiance and an inviting patio, making it the perfect spot for enjoying classic Chinese dishes with a contemporary twist. While many of Adelaide's Chinese eateries focus more on practicality than presentation, Empress stands out by offering a refined dining experience that emphasizes precision in cooking and high-quality ingredients.
We had our tea ceremony banquet at Empress Restaurant and the service, food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Special thanks to Eric, Daniel and Emma for being super accommodating and attentive during the entire planning process. The custom menu was divine, exactly what we wanted and even able to specially make up vegan/vegetarian menus for our guests. The price was very reasonable, food came out quickly, we could not have asked for any better. Would absolutely recommend having dinner and lunch here - their yum cha menu is also very yummy! Only a few photos to share of the food as we were too busy during the day to take more, but everything had great presentation and decent servings!

Quite good Cantonese dim sums were available in this yum cha restaurant. In particular, I like the fried lotus balls, sticky rice dumplings and Siu Mai. I didn't like the stir fried radish cakes (too dried and too salty) and bbq pork rice rolls (too thick skin of rice roll).

A Chinese restaurant near Burnside Village We heard Yumcha is only open for lunch, so we visited on a Thursday afternoon The interior design gave us a new feeling, like stepping into a high-end restaurant The food was relatively expensive, but it was delicious And the jasmine tea was rich in flavor, but that's where I first learned that there was a per-person cup rental fee (I remember it was $2.50) Nonetheless, overall it was a decent experience

The tea-smoked duck? Honestly, pretty special — props for that. But then they hit us with a $12.80 charge for one extra bowl of rice. No heads-up, no “by the way,” just casually tucked into the bill like we wouldn’t notice. What did they serve it in, a golden bowl? Most spots in Chinatown give you unlimited rice like it’s water. Here, apparently, rice is some sort of premium upgrade. I’m not mad about the money — it’s $12.80, not a mortgage payment. But come on, if you’re gonna charge that much for plain rice, at least have the decency to say so. Feels shady, and honestly, a bit insulting. Ruined the vibe of what could’ve been a nice meal.

Been planning for a long time to visit and finally got the chance. Although there were lots of options, we had to choose a specific food type and modify it a bit. Even after modifications, the food tasted really well. Even though they don’t have any Halal options, a bit of a unique request helped. Just one Halal seafood fried rice was enough for two or even three people. Other dishes were presented and tasted perfectly fine. The vegetarian food looked and tasted amazing too. We ordered Mapo Tofu, five-spice tofu, and one noodle dish—all of them modified to be vegetarian. They came on time and were amazing. Finished everything 'cause it’s finger-licking good. Lastly, the desserts were prepped nicely too. The Bombe Alaska with the fire was quite niceeeeee. We were really amazed with the atmosphere as well. The paintings on the walls and photo frames were also eye-catching. Everyone at the front was very helpful and friendly too. Thanks to the owner, FoH, and the kitchen (specifically to that person who cooked the Halal food 😂) for this whole experience. It was truly incredible. Eternally grateful and thankful. Hope to visit someday again and maybe see some Halal options. 😂

Food itself a bit too pricey, but really nice, liked the atmosphere, especially the service. you pay the price for the service, as this restaurant has the best service out of all yamcha places i have ever been to.

The food is ok.eggplant is highlight. Mango dessert is too sticky not jelly, a bit disappointing. Didn’t have anyone to clear the tables. We have to keep top up empty plates in one corner. My suggestion keep a section to a waiter to clearance. Have to keep asking for top up the tea.

Lotus Chinese Restaurant, located in North Adelaide, is widely considered as one of the finest Chinese dining establishments. It combines exceptional cuisine, welcoming service, and notably generous portions at a reasonable price. While the honey chicken is particularly outstanding, the entire menu provides an unforgettable opportunity to savor authentic and delectable Chinese dishes. Although some may find it relatively expensive with smaller servings and excessive sauce for taste preferences, the fried ice cream stands out as a delicious treat.
This place is awesome, the staff are fantastic people. Been eating here for years and never had a 'dud' meal. Their Honey Chicken is To Die For, the best. Also their Mongolian Beef Steak is the best around. 1st April 2023 They are still there, thank Goddess. The meals, staff and atmosphere is awesome. The business is still up for sale, but we will continue to eat there as long as we can. November 2023 Visited our favourite restaurant again, had crispy beef, special fried rice and honey chicken, always so yummy. The owners have put their restaurant back on the market, so this place is up for sale again. Again, we'll still be eating here until we can't anymore. April 2024 Visted many more times since November 2023. But an update on the sale of The Lotus. The owners have sold, sad for us as we will miss the Honey Chicken and Crispy Beef ☹ But Happy for Wendy and her husband, as they can finally retire. We were informed that the doors close at the end of the financial year 2024. So get in for a delicious meal, but they will be closed for the first 2 weeks of May and then open again until the end of the financial year. Lovely staff, delicious food, will miss them, so we'll be visiting as much as we can before closing.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Lotus Chinese Restaurant in Adelaide, Australia, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience! From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff made me feel right at home. Let me share with you the highlights of my delightful meal. First and foremost, the honey soya chicken dishes at Lotus Chinese Restaurant deserve a special mention. The succulent, tender pieces of chicken were perfectly seasoned, and the flavors were simply outstanding. I was blown away by the balance of spices and the freshness of the ingredients. The Lotus Chinese Restaurant truly knows how to make chicken shine! Next up, the sizzling steak fillet. If you're a steak lover like me, you're in for a treat! The restaurant offers an impressive selection of steak options, ranging from traditional Chinese-style beef stir-fries to mouthwatering Mongolian beef. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and the quality of the meat was top-notch. The chefs at Lotus Chinese Restaurant certainly know how to cook the perfect steak to satisfy any carnivorous craving! Moving on to the fried rice, I can confidently say that Lotus Chinese Restaurant has mastered the art of this classic dish. The fried rice was cooked to perfection, with just the right balance of vegetables, egg, and seasonings. The grains were fluffy and separated, making each spoonful a delightful experience. Whether you opt for the traditional vegetable fried rice or the more indulgent combination fried rice, you won't be disappointed. Lastly, the wonton soup at Lotus Chinese Restaurant was a comforting bowl of pure bliss. The delicate dumplings filled with a flavorful mixture of meat and vegetables floated in a clear, savory broth. Each spoonful warmed my soul, and I couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail in every component of this traditional Chinese soup. In addition to the outstanding food, the service at Lotus Chinese Restaurant was impeccable. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making sure that every aspect of my dining experience was enjoyable. If you find yourself in Adelaide, Australia, and craving a Chinese feast, I wholeheartedly recommend Lotus Chinese Restaurant. Their delectable chicken dishes, mouthwatering steaks, flavorful fried rice, and comforting wonton soup will leave you wanting more. Prepare yourself for a culinary adventure that will satisfy your taste buds and warm your heart.

The decor is pretty much as you would expect, but it's clean, neat and tidy. The service was attentive and very polite. We had one of the banquets. We were impressed following the soup and entrees to be asked if we would like a break before the mains came out. Sometimes in similar genre restaurants, banquets can be served far too quickly. We (two of us) had the $33.00/ person banquet. There was plenty of food and it was generally very good. In fact, despite being pretty peckish when we arrived, we couldn't eat all the food. We were asked if we would like a container to take the leftover food home, we didn't even have to ask for one. It's also BYO bottled wine if you wish at a very fair $8.00 per bottle. Did we love it ? Yes. Will we go back ? Yes.

Some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in a long time. Even better than most of my other favourite Chinese restaurants. The satay chicken is the best I’ve had in a very long time. Opening hours are 12 to 2.30 for lunch and 5 pm for dinner. No clear closing time, presumably closing time depends on the number of customers.

The chinese restaurant Little Canton Chinese Restaurant is a great spot for Cantonese food lovers to get their fix. The creamy egg fried rice and crispy chicken are especially popular, but the range of dishes on offer includes everything from dumplings to pork buns. There's even yum cha available during the day, making it perfect for casual dining.
Three of us went there for lunch for the first time as it was recommended to us and was absolutely the best Chinese food we have had for 20 years +. When we lived on the other side of town, we used to go to the Prince Room on lower North east Road. The food there was always amazing, the menu extensive and this was equally as good. Truly delicious food and the best fried rice I think I’ve ever had, so thank you so much. We ordered a lot more that we could eat because I wanted to try several things & knew I would be able to take whatever was left home with us, so the photo is of what we took home and no doubt doesn’t do it justice. The portions were generous, the staff lovely and it got a huge tick from all of us. Definite 5 out of 5 and would absolutely recommend everyone to try it.

Very impressed with Little Canton’s new space, modern, clean, and a lovely upgrade. The food was delicious and noticeably less oily than your typical yum cha, which we really appreciated. Everything we tried was fresh and well-prepared. It came out quick as well! Unfortunately, the service left a bit to be desired. We had to ask twice for water, were told halfway through our meal that the piggy buns we ordered weren’t available, and a few wrong dishes were sent to our table. + points for their own parking area with plenty of parking too! Despite the service hiccups, the quality of the food alone makes it worth returning. With a little more attention to front-of-house, this place could be exceptional.

Overall, the food was quite nice except for the XO radish cake and yam puff. The XO radish cake was a bit too soft inside that it felt abit watery, it would be nice if it was a little firmer. Maybe it was abit off due to high volume of customers on a public holiday. The flavour also wasn’t really to my liking. The yam puff just personally wasn’t my kind of dish. On the brighter side, my friend who usually never eats porridge said the congee was “honestly kinda nice,” which says a lot! I forgot the exact names of a few dishes, but the pictures are in order according to the ratings below. (All ratings are based on personal preference.) Pork and century egg porridge - 8/10 XO raddish cake - 5/10 Little canton’s special fried rice - 7/10 虾饺steam Prawn dumpling - 7.5/10 烧卖prawn and pork siu Mai, dimsum- 8/10 Yam Puff - 6/10 Chinese Doughnut rice roll - 7/10 Shrimp rice roll - 7/10 Fried shrimp (forgot the exact name) - 7.5:10 Fried dumpling (forgot the exact name) - 8/10 Durian puff - 6.5/10 Salt and pepper squid tentacles - 7/10 (no picture) Salted egg lava bun - didn’t get to try, sold out 😢 Portuguese tart- didn’t get to try, sold out 😢 A mate mentioned their dinner menu was also really nice, so I’d come back to try that next time. (Also the dimsum and hopefully get the salted egg lava buns too) Overall, I liked the place. It has good vibes and atmosphere, and is quite a solid spot for dim sum.

The food is tasty and good quality just like you would expect for the price here. The price is normal where most meat dishes are around the $23 mark. The servings are on the smaller side so we found we should have ordered an extra dish. If you want cheaper dishes you might need to go elsewhere for cheaper $19 dishes. Overall we will come back as its close by.

Gone upmarket from its old home. Decent dim sum. The mango pudding is no recommended. Too much milk; doesn't look appetising either. The squid is tasty but a little over cooked as it was quite rubbery.

Came into Little Canton for dinner with my family (visiting from WA) after hearing they have moved to a new location right across the road from The Highway. We ordered the following dishes: black pepper fillet steak, steamed fresh Murray cod, salt and pepper pork hock, 1/2 roast duck, stir fry prawns with chinese brocolli and a special order of free range Emperor chicken. All the dishes were seasoned well, came out in reasonable time (it was a busy periods during dinner so we did wait but it was worth it!) and very tasty. The portions were a generous serving as well. We will definitely return. Black pepper fillet steak: tender melt in your mouth meat with a moreish savoury flavour. Steamed whole Murray cod: sweet and delicate white fish meat caught straight from the tank. The light and mellow Ginger and soy sauce doesn't overpower the flavour of the fish. Salt and pepper Pork hock: fried to perfection but not dry. Flavoured just right so it doesn't make you want to reach for a glass of water everytime you take a bite. Imperial free range chicken with Ginger and shallot oil: juicy and succulent chicken. It's addictive by itself or dipped in the ginger and shallot oil. Prawns with chinese brocolli: garlicky with a mild Savoury sauce. Compliments the other dishes and fluffy white jasmine rice.

Outstanding meal. We had it as takeaway and it was some of the best. The dim sims are outstanding, stuffed tofu was something I’ve never had before but will again, and the oyster mushrooms crumbed and fried were next level. Special fried rice was also, well, um, special… ;) We also had green curry veg and sweet and sour not chicken which was lovely.

Today was our first time visiting Zenhouse and we can’t believe that it’s taken us so long to visit! This is straight to the top of our fave vegan friendly places in Adelaide. We had a lovely introduction by the owner upon being seated, who went through the menu for us and made some delicious suggestions. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly and was super hot and delicious! We ordered a few entrees, the Creamy Corn Soup, Honey Not Chicken and Mongolian Not Beef with the Zenhouse Fried Rice. It’s honestly impossible to pick a favourite, the entrees were amazing (I loved the VSFC, closest I’ve ever found to KFC crispy strips!) and the mains were both super tasty! We also indulged in dessert and both were perfect. The price for a full 4 course experience for my wife and I including a soft drink each was just over $100 which was super cheap and we are already planning our return to try the other delectable items the owner told us about! Do yourself a favour, if you love food of any kind but especially plant based food you HAVE to visit!

We were welcomed with such hospitality and we were explained the dishes and how they were prepared. Our every question about the dishes were explained to us. It was my first time to a vegan restaurant. The specialty of course is their signature dish the Salt and Pepper Abalone Mushroom. They are proud of the investment right from growing to the end product of delivering a delightful dish. I had an amazing experience and would definitely go there again.

My favourite restaurant in Adelaide. So many choices that it can be hard to find your favourites, but worth it. My only complaint is that portion size can be a bit unpredictable. Some things that look like mains on the menu are entree size; others are plenty for one. Perhaps the menu could be made a bit clearer when it comes to portion size. But some of the best food in Adelaide is on this menu.

The food was great, happy and joyful atmosphere and very friendly customer service. I'll definitely be back. For anyone who thinks vegetarian or vegan food is boring, this is the place to change your mind.

Chinese restaurant
Nestled amidst the vibrant energy of Gouger Street, Wah Hing Restaurant stands out as a serene oasis in the bustling Chinatown scene. With its modern decor featuring timber floors and inviting streetside tables, it offers a refined dining experience that feels both relaxed and sophisticated. The menu is a delightful journey through Chinese cuisine, starting with their signature shallot pancakes—crispy rings of pastry that are simply irresistible.
We live in Adelaide and Wah Hing is our go-to whenever we’re craving Peking duck. Every visit has been consistently impressive and the food is always beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. While it is a little on the pricier side, you truly get what you pay for: quality ingredients and dishes that are packed with flavour. Aside from the Peking duck, my personal favourites are the fish fillet with beans and the salt and pepper eggplant – both done to perfection. We also love their San Choy Bao, and the sizzling beef never disappoints. Wah Hing continues to be one of our top picks in Adelaide for Chinese cuisine. Highly recommend for a satisfying, flavourful dining experience.

This is the worst FAKE Chinese restaurant I've ever had in Australia!! 中国食客注意:这是我目前为止在澳洲吃过的最烂的假中餐厅!! We came in for dinner on 26 Dec, 2024. Google review was 4.4 stars (not that we totally trusted it but it was a reference), so we thought it was probably okay at least. After we sit down, the first thing I noticed was the round metal chopsticks on the table. Anyone from East Asia would know that Chinese don't use metal chopsticks, only Koreans do. Both Chinese and Japanese use wooden ones with rectangular handles that are far better in every way. But this is another topic entirely, so I'm not gonna go into it. My point is it raised my suspicions. So I looked across at another table that's already been served, and noticed that the food was contained in a couple of western style bowls. Immediately I thought don't tell me this is one of those westernised Chinese-fusion style restaurants because they're never any good and always expensive. Another thing I noticed was that there were no Chinese sitting there eating except us, usually that's not a good sign in case you're wondering. But still I decided to give it a try. So we ordered a soup, a couple of dishes and some rice. Pretty quickly they were served and my worst nightmare came true the moment they arrived at the table. As you can see from my photos, that was literally the amount of food they gave out and the status they arrived in!! And they have the audacity to call them food and serve them to customers!!! If you go on their website and click on any of the menu links, it takes you to a third party page that's full of ads and click baits (yeah, that's how professionally low budget they're, so always check their online menus first). I highlighted two of the dishes we ordered. Now, go back to the other photos and tell me which one is "Red Pepper Kangaroo Fillet 回锅袋鼠肉"?Does it look like "回锅肉” at all?In case you don't know what the Chinese name says, it means "twice cooked". Also, does it look anything like their official dish photos which I also posted?? (not the same dish, but should look similar right?) About the soup, usually soups are served in big bowls in large quantities for at least two or three people. NOT in a tiny bowl that's barely large enough for the spoon you're using. And even if you do single serves, you need to tell your customers, yet nothing on the menu and nothing from the waiter too! You know sometimes you encounter fake Japanese restaurants that run by Chinese. And I have to say they're pretty freaking bad (not just to Japanese, but to anyone). This is the same thing, only that it's a fake Chinese restaurant run by people who obviously haven't got the faintest clue about Chinese food, however somehow this place miraculous gained 4.4 stars on Google?!! That just shows you how accurate the ratings are and who puts them there. If I maybe so bold, probably by people who also have no idea about Chinese food (or edibles in general). That was just the food, I haven't even started with the environment yet. The restaurant was not big at all, yet like many restaurants, they just mindlessly play loud music that's not suitable for the place at all. The interior is all black, yet the overhead lights are so dim that you can barely see the food on the table if you're away from the window during the day (and at night?). Again, it was nothing like their official photos AT ALL! Lastly the price. For "all that good food" (let's just call it that for now), we paid $88 dollars. For the same amount of money in real Chinese restaurants, you can literally eat 4 times and each time get more food in way better quality. I'm not exaggerating one bit, walk around and see for yourself, there's no need to believe me. So the moral of the story is that, if you walk into a "Chinese restaurant" and find metal chopsticks on the table, leave right away; if you see western style bowls containing food instead of plates, leave right away; if you see no Chinese sitting in a Chinese restaurant, leave right away, because it's probably FAKE!!

Fantastic dining experience! Our group of 10 loved every dish. I personally ordered the sizzle steak with ginger sauce and it was absolutely divine! The steak was so tender and the flavors were incredible. Everyone left happy and full. Highly recommend for large groups and Chinese food lovers!

I purchased 4 chilli beef for takeaway spent $33 each . Opened the container and found there hardly any beef in the chilli beef . I went back and showed the Owner who did not care when I quizzed them. As I was told that it looked small due to the large container size. It was an Extremely poor serving size. No way worth the $33 each What a joke. Now I know why the place was empty.

Great Chinese. One of the best I’ve had in Adelaide. Try the spicy steak. Only negative is the acoustics. We had a very loud table of people in the restaurant and could barely hear ourselves talk.

The food was next level, so flavourful and fresh. Price is a little higher but the quality is there and they dont skimp on serving sizes. It's such a cozy intimite place. Definately will be back, thanks for making my birthday amazing

Dim sum restaurant
Eastern Garden is a high-end Chinese restaurant that is tucked away at the back of Norwood Hoyts complex. The decor is rich and detailed, with intricate painted walls and ceiling fans. The food is definitely worth trying, with dishes like Szechuan style stir-fried chicken, kung po prawns and green beans with minced pork and XO all proving popular.
Awesome place and great Chinese food. Very friendly staff and huge portions. Maybe a bit expensive for certain dishes. 6 people with drinks was a lot of food leftover but doggy bags were good as could have it for dinner the next night.

The staff were friendly and directed us to our table. The dim sums were delicious but we ordered too many. The food came out fairly quickly. Good location and easy to park. Remember to give your parking ticket when you pay so you can get free parking. Will be back again

Dim sum was nice with lots of choice. Good location. If you eat at the restaurant, you let the staff know your plate number and can get 3-hour free parking (next to the restaurant) with plenty of parking space. The restaurant was quite busy at weekends and the staff was friendly. Sunday has 10% surcharge.

Service was extremely good... We did have an entree that came out a bit late. But besides that all the food was tasty and the setup was extremely welcoming. A bit pricey for the meals and could be better presented if you do want that price tag on them. Still a lovely place and we will surely be back again. Was a group of 4 of us and 3 being Chinese, one being a chef, it was just a slight let down on presentation and flavor.
W M — Google review
Pretty solid dim sum overall — nothing special, but nothing too bad either. Service was fine, though a bit slow, especially with bringing out the sauces for some of the dishes. The chicken feet were good, the prawn har gow was solid, and most of the other dumplings were okay. The real letdown was the siu mai, which honestly was pretty horrendous. Overall, a very average yum cha experience — fills the craving, but not one I’d be rushing back to.
Christopher W — Google review
Came here for dim sum and was really let down by the unwelcoming attitude of their staff. When asking what tea we wanted, the staff member mumbled so quietly it was like he was talking to himself — we couldn’t hear a single word. Later, another staff member spilled about half the squid onto the table, then picked it up with her hand and placed it back onto the plate like nothing had happened, and left some on the table for no reason, maybe I should pick it up myself. Even if she was wearing gloves, it was still unhygienic and unacceptable. Maybe I was too polite at the time, but this level of service is just not okay.
Nate — Google review
Service is ok, food is decent. The saddest part is about the fish located near the entrance. There are zero enrichment and no proper housing for this poor fish, it is just swimming alone in a glass of still, murky water. Very depressing sight. Please provide a proper tank with a filtration system, and enrichment for this animal. This is a very inhumane way to keep a fish.

Ba Guo Bu Yi is a chinese restaurant that specialises in Szechuan flavours. The restaurant is unassuming but the food is fiery and authentically Chinese. The dishes are great for spice lovers and the customer service is excellent.
Spicy, dicy, authentic and DELICIOUS!! Just come here mate. Do it……do it. I have been coming here for about 7 years and the food is unbelievably good. It is always consistent. The owner is always there, which might contribute to the consistency over the years. The spicy 🌶️ 🥩 beef is by far one of the stand out dishes at this restaurant. It is good enough to share between 3 people with some rice as a good baseline staple dish. The greens are always good. When you come here you can get some rice, spicy beef and a side of greens, leaving you with nothing but value…. or from there if you feel like spending more, you can get the duck (amazing) and crab 🦀 (amazing) and all of the other more ‘extravagant’ dishes. Beers selection is good. Wine selection is good mate. The atmosphere in Ba Guy Bu Yi isn’t some dark lit/ put all the effort into the fit out with a trendy website to go along with it kind of vibe… this is just straight up, authentic Chinese with a really nice flavorsome kick to it…. You will be hard pressed to find anything this good in South Australia.
Carradean F — Google review
This place likes bookings but has space also for drop ins. The food is served in generous amounts, well flavoured and is what it advertises. Pricing is ok for the quality of food and service. We had the prawn and broccoli, fresh vege and plenty of large prawns (frozen), all 3 protein dishes were spicy. The beef and chicken were nice but again not fresh. The third, a spicy fried chicken was ok. Service was really friendly and attentive. Bathrooms were poor.

Really good service and great food. The food came very fast. As the table or plates got full or dirty (we ate the crabs using hands), they noticed it and come to clean the table and change the plates. Thank you for your great hospitality. We really enjoyed the meal😊 However, If the hygiene could be more considered, it would be better.

Such an amazing FEAST! We had 7 people here and we all ordered different food, we had so much to eat, all delicious and such great prices!! I wish I lived in Adelaide so that I could come here all the time! The service was so polite and helpful, and the food came out so promptly!

Terrible uncourteous staff. Terrible food, A 50$ fish dish is what you get in 15$ in any other shop. The staff behaviour is like they are your guest. Total waste of money and time. Definitely not worth the money and time. We can all the way from Melbourne to travel to Adelaide to experience the best Chinese cuisine in Chinatown. This restaurant-turned out to be the worst Chinese restaurant we had ever been to.

To be fair, this taste isn't mine. Pork in Xiao Long Bao wasn't have good taste and not much juicy as it should be. For pork belly, this dish was too oily but the texture of pork was good. Staffs are really nice.

Our favourite restaurant all times. Customer service is the best and foods are always great and fresh. We love the atmosphere and everything in the restaurant. Strongly recommended.
Stacey W — Google review
The restaurant was ok and got busy really quickly. The initial service was great but the food order took a lot longer and in actual fact people who came in a lot later after us got their food first. Might just be dish dependant but one always wonders. Food was ok but had to send one of the dishes back as it did not contain the ingredients advertised. Service was average overall, food was fairly priced for what you get in terms of quantity and quality.

Kingdom Chinese Restaurant 東海海鮮酒家, formerly located on Gouger Street, has moved to Grote Street in 2021 and is now a staple yum cha spot near central Chinatown. The restaurant offers Cantonese cuisine in the Adelaide CBD. While the decor may be a bit dated, the staff are friendly and the food is generally good.
We had our first dinner here 3 weeks ago then 3rd time few days ago 🫣 Foods really really good! I loved their spicy pork intestines. They also give bean porridge and oranges after meal. The young man staff is very friendly! Service 💯

Their food especially the dimsums are great! Our first time to dine in last weekend, and we appreciated how quick they served. Menu could be much better with pictures on it, we were given a leaflet to mark each order which is great as it is quick and easy. Ambience could be improved. Receipts could be better to be translated in English :) Staff are friendly and overall service is fantastic! We will be back.

My family visited this Chinese restaurant for yum cha today 8 March 2025. We booked a table in advance. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived, so no waiting at all. We ordered 8 dim sums for 4 people. The quality of food were generally OK but nothing was exceptional. The Chinese tea was ok, the services were good as they had at least 8 waiters working while the restaurant was not busy. The waiters / waitresses were keeping their eyes on their customers so their services were pretty fast and responsive. However, as we speak Cantonese and know yum cha culture well, we had a bit higher expectations than others. Our overall satisfaction was fair as the quality of dim sum could be better.
Pat C — Google review
I've ordered takeout a few times and thought it was not too bad, but the quality and taste of the dim sum were really average when I dined in last time. The prices are cheap though so the value for money is okay.

Five stars are for their business attitude. They listened to customers' feedback, friendly waiting staff, dishes get better and better compared with the past but prices are still reasonable. A Cantonese cuisine restaurant in the Adelaide CBD. The restaurant decor was a bit dated and old. The staff were friendly and nice. The food was good in total. There were very nice items such as the beef curry and prawn dumpling but for instance the duck was average and the beef noodle was a bit under seasoned and over cooked. But in general, i will visit this place for sure to try more items on the very long menu.

The chinese restaurant Shanghai Teahouse offers delicious dishes from the east. With an extensive menu, there is something for everyone to enjoy. From the classics such as chicken rice and wonton soup, to more unusual choices like braised pork belly with black vinegar and pickled vegetables, the chefs at Shanghai Teahouse have created something for every taste. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, this chinese restaurant has you covered.
The service is very good, the staff are very friendly and willing to help you with whatever you need. The food was delicious, everything was very fresh, and the portions are good compared to the price.

maybe because we come too late, they took lil bit long time to served the food. I feel bad about the rice because thats not moist at all, the rice was so dry, and the salt pepper tofu wasnt good enough.
Jeha L — Google review
The staff is really friendly and welcoming, I love her smiles. The food tastes good, but sometimes the portion would be a bit disappointing. This wonton noodles only serves with 4 small wontons and a handful of noodles with very light flavor, I thought the wontons would contain any prawns since there’re only 4, but nah, not even much meat. Still felt hungry after the lunch. But the chicken rice I tasted last week was delicious with reasonable amount.
Shiran W — Google review
The portion is very small compared to the other Shanghai cruise restaurants which are in the same price range. The taste of the food is bad. The crust of the bun and dumplings are both too thick to taste the stuffings And the restaurant is too hot to stay in summer, I think they always don't turn on the air-conditioner.
Zoie — Google review
I am a vegetarian. I only buy there vegetarian dumplings. They were sometimes not great but mostly good and sometimes very good. Last Thursday we had a takeout and my usual meal had a little strange taste to it. To mu horror I found a small part of chicken feet in my meal, with a claw. Why? Did they boiled them in a chicken brew? Why? I thought a vegetarian meal should be vegetarian. Needless to say, they lost a customer.

The Seng Kee Yum Cha stall, situated in The Market Plaza Food Court, is a popular choice for a fast yum cha lunch. Its location between the Adelaide Central Market atrium and Moonta Place makes it convenient for diners. Families particularly enjoy this establishment as they can visit without a reservation and start eating immediately, avoiding the wait typically experienced at restaurants. With its lively atmosphere and absence of tablecloths that young children might pull, the food court is an ideal spot for families.
Have been coming here for years. My son and I's favourite go to at the market. Yummy, speedy yum Cha when you don't feel like a restaurant meal. Lovely staff remember us every visit. Chicken feet and salt n pepper squid a must!!!!!
Gemma T — Google review
Ive been here for 23 years. One of the best yum cha in adelaide. Chicken feet are top.
Tu L — Google review
This is a different yumcha experience to what I'm used it. There are no trolleys gong around to tables, just a shop front where you select from what you want. We chose salt and pepper squid, scallop dumplings with prawns and coriander, dumplings with pork, prawns and coriander, prawn changfun and steamed beef tripe. The positive from no trolleys here is that they are made fresh. The drawback is the lack of variety and lack of availability upon request. The beancurds, radish cake and deep fried pork dumplings were not available. Yours truly @fooderarri
Thien ( — Google review
Seng Kee is not a restaurant, however their food is as good if not better than some of the restaurant-served yum chas elsewhere. The dim sim was meaty and not too bouncy, S&P squid was well seasoned and sticky rise was generous. The sauce in the beancurd roll dish could be less curdled and there could be more ingredients in the sticky rice dish, but those are small details that was compensated by the price and service. We will return.
Kerrie — Google review
Quick fast service with reasonable prices. They freshly steamed the dumplings for us.

poor. found a hair in my soy sauce which i just swapped out without a problem. BUT also found a hair inside my dim sim. the lady i showed argued it was a mushroom and continued to pretend she couldn’t see the hair. ultimately told her i didn’t want the serves i bought and i wasn’t even offered a refund.
Keisha B — Google review
Taste terrible! Not authentic at all. Also, they use so much Cheap, Low Quality meat in their dumplings!! And so much unhealthy FATS too. Don't take my word - try them yourself. Also, half the dumplings they don't make themselves as they buy frozen from third parties.
Seven S — Google review
Their customer service was the worst. We ordered 3 dishes, including scallop dumplings, prawn dumplings and chicken feet, and paid $18 for three of them. Each was $6. After paying, the cashier gave me scallop dumplings and prawn dumplings, and she told me chicken feet would take 5 minutes. I thought 5 mins was fine, then my husband and I had the dumplings first. After finishing the dumplings for quite a while, we still have not heard from them about the chicken feet. I then came to the cashier and asked. She checked something (which may have been her notebook) and turned to ask the chef. They spoke something to each other, but then she didn’t get back to me at all. While I was standing at the counter, she continued to sell food to other customers and completely ignored me. I was patiently waiting for a while, and even getting back to the seat with my husband. Still no response. I then came and politely asked her again that I was wondering if my chicken feet was ready. She then asked what I had ordered and if I had already paid for the chicken feet. I listed the dishes and said I paid for three of them. She then asked what types of payment I had made (e.g cash or card) and requested an evidence. I had to show her my bank transaction, but I felt very disappointed about the service. Wondered if she thought I had lied for only $6. Then around 2 minutes after that, she gave me the chicken feet without any smiles or any apologies at all. Very disappointed. Their food was just OK but their service was nothing close to good. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. It was my first visit and also my last one to this stall.

Bar
Maybe Mae is a hidden gem located in the west end of Adelaide's CBD, tucked away between Peel and Leigh Street. This underground cocktail bar, housed in a converted stock cellar, boasts an art deco style and a concealed entrance behind a timber-clad wall. The bar offers expertly crafted cocktails that make use of seasonal flavors, with the option to consult the knowledgeable bartenders for personalized recommendations. Some popular drinks include the Bill Murray and the Peel St Corpse Reviver.
When I say hidden, I really do mean hidden. The entrance is just off Peel Street in the same entrance to Bread and Bone but you go downstairs and then the door is hidden in the wall paneling. Once you find the bar you are greeted by welcoming staff who were more than helpful in finding the right cocktail. I did try the Peel Street Corpse Reviver which is definitely worth trying. There are booths to sit in or like us, we sat at the bar. If in Adelaide, you should pop in for at least one.

How have I not discovered this secret bar before now, because it’s through a hidden door!!! Upon entering through the secret door, the setting just oozes warmth, such an inviting atmospheres for guests to enjoy. Soft dimmed lighting, stylish decor, vibey music and comfortable booth seating. Greeted by welcoming Bartenders, who also provided attentive table service throughout the evening. Also the menu is available via scan code, the bar staff are knowledgeable and attentive, guiding us through the menu, answering any questions and offering personalized recommendations. Beyond the ambiance, the focus is on crafting high-quality, diverse cocktails, from classic recipes to unique signature creations. Definitely a recommend spot for a late night drink.

I love an art deco bar so this was a must visit based on previous reviews. Finding the entrance is a fun little part of the experience. Inside the venue it’s quite dark and bustling making it hard to identify staff and let them know you’ve arrived. I would suggest a reservation as it was super busy. Despite booking in advance, we were seated at the bar, with our uncomfortable seats on a busy throughway. It was quite loud sitting at the bar with the constant repetitions of “yes chef” from behind the bar starting to grate on me. The drinks were well made and reasonably priced. The White Sands and Electric Blue were actually delicious. However, the salt on the outside of the glass of the Pink Cadillac was overwhelming and the King Bee was so strong I couldn’t really get any flavour. The overall vibe made it hard to relax and we didn’t stay for any more than two drinks. Would I return to Maybe Mae? Maybe one day, maybe not.
IndianaIxie — Google review
We found the door. We won’t tell you where it is — secrets are part of the charm. But when we slipped through and descended into the underworld of art deco delight, we knew: this wasn’t just a bar. This was the beginning of something. Inside, it was all shadows, brass, and the hum of low conversation. Enter: Alphonso. Charismatic. Commanding. Clad in leopard print and vibes so strong they should be bottled. He didn’t serve us drinks. He served us conviction. Then there was Kobe — the mixology mage. Quiet hands, serious eyes, alchemical talent. The drinks? Divine. But the lychee lolly? Transcendent. Like if a fruit had a secret and whispered it directly to your brain. Every corner of the space oozes intention — smooth walnut wood, lush emerald green leather, a whiff of something forbidden. The art deco design doesn’t scream; it purrs. Please never change it. We beg. We don’t know what time it was when we left. We don’t even know who we are anymore. But we know this: We believe in Alphonso. We trust in Kobe. And we would follow that Spare Change into the dark.

We came for the incredible cocktail menu last night (which was stunning, every drink is so gorgeous and complex) and the service was fantastic! I struggle with sensory issues around sound, and our original table was a little too close to the speakers but the staff were brilliant and found us a quieter spot, eventually moving our small party to a booth. I really appreciated the accommodation and hope to come back soon! I think for the quality of the service and the drinks, it is well worth the price.

Haven’t been to maybe Mae for a couple of years, but damn it’s gotten worse. I don’t wan’t to scan a QR code to look at the menu. I goto a bar to socialise and mingle with mates, disconnect from media, not have to bring out my phone to look at a screen of $25+ cocktails? This ruins the atmosphere with everyone staring at a screen. And they used to do complimentary snacks which I didn’t see either. Would have rated 1 star; but the cocktails are half decent still.

Nestled in the serene side streets of Adelaide's CBD, Zenhouse Tea Corner is a delightful haven for those seeking vegan and vegetarian yum cha. This charming family-run eatery offers an impressive array of traditional dim sum dishes reimagined to cater to plant-based diets, ensuring that even the most discerning palates can enjoy dumplings and buns that closely mimic their meaty counterparts. Zenhouse Tea Corner stands out not only for its delectable food but also for its commitment to healthy living.
a longtime favourite. everything i’ve ever tried is delicious. pictured: sweet & sour tofu, salt & pepper eggplant, BBQ sauce not-pork. their yumcha menu is also sensational!

The Zenhouse Vegetarian Yum Cha is a family ran little restaurant that sits in the quiet side streets in the Adelaide CBD. They are known not just for there huge variety of vegan Asian/Western-Fusion dishes but the awareness of health living. Not only just a restaurant they also sell a huge range of Teas and Vegan Mock Meats which you can come in and buy anytime. The restaurant has a very cozy feel with a wonderful family friendly atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and happy to catering for anyone with allergies and alot of Gluten Free options to. The food is fresh and nothing fails on taste everything has such a perfect balance. The mock meats for me are what stood out the most! Legitimately texture and taste is just like meat, it’s insane how spot on they have mastered the taste for there “meat” items!

OMG WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!! This little out of the way humble restaurant was by far one of the most AMAZING food experiences so far while back home. Thank you the vegan food was outstanding. And to top it off the service was so friendly and 'down to earth'. Thank you so much, you will be remembered and we will get all our friends who visit to come and sample your experience.

Great food and atmosphere, good menu selection. Staff were friendly, although could have been a little more attentive.

Great veg food that even non-vegetarians would LOVE! Great location just off Rundle St, kind staff and even better food; can't ask for much more. I always get the sweet and sour SFC...highly recommend it.

I dined here on Thursday evening for dinner and ate the Curry Not-Chicken. It arrived extremely hot and was in a deep bowl with an ample serving but for the price I thought rice would be included. The curry flavour was tasty but watery and the soy nuggets that were supposed to resemble chicken were sparse and didn't taste like chicken to me, but soy. The naan bread arrived in just one piece so had to be cut into four pieces as I was sharing it with my partner. That was not convenient. My partner's meal arrived significantly later than mine so we could not eat at the same time unless I waited for his meal. That should not happen. As most of the tables were not well lit, candles should be on the tables to provide more light and ambience. I would like to go back to try more meals of the extensive menu.

Amazing vegan spread. Their Yum Cha is reasonably priced and good portion sizes. They have a really good $19.90 deal where you can pick five items off the menu, great value! I recommend the Peking Rolls, Tom Yum Soup, and the spinach dumplings.

I can’t count how many times I’ve been to Zenhouse! It’s the greatest vegetarian yum cha I’ve ever had. They have a HUGE menu of fully-vegetarian options and an extensive range of vegan options. They also have a huge selection of tea.

Nestled within Burnside Village and Port Adelaide Plaza Shopping Centre, Shanghai Teahouse offers a delightful twist on traditional dim sum by specializing in Shanghai-style dishes. Here, you can indulge in an array of delectable treats like Xiao Long Bao and Shallot Pancakes, alongside other beloved yum cha favorites. While the ambiance may lean towards a casual food court vibe compared to its previous location, the culinary experience remains exceptional.
Not as lovely as it was in the old restaurant, a little more of a food court feel, but the food is still the same amazing deliciousness!!!

So, so, SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD. I went here recently for the first time, and then went back the very next day cause it's SO GOOD. Very helpful staff, very keen to help out. Had no trouble with me being vegan. Such a great little shop!

Great place, food was nice, waiting time was definitely worth it, even when the place is packed the wait time is not to long.

the food was like super great. the original wrap was really good. the bubble tea was not bad, but the boba was kinda weird. a lil expensive but still very good. a booking maybe good bc it is usually very busy. me and charles were too full to even walk after eating. the portion is great lol.

Poor customer service, expensive prices, food quality was average and overpriced The lady owner was very rude and handled situations in a rude dismissive manner
Josh V — Google review
The food is ok but the lady owner was very rude and handled situations in a rude dismissive manner, especially did't care about the emotions of customers, in conclusion --never try this restaurant again, I got lots of negative emotions form here and the owner😅😡
Eric L — Google review
Foods were average. But customer service was very bad especially the old lady there. Do not recommended. Go somewhere else.
Sin K — Google review
Awful experience today from the extremely rude and unwelcoming male staff member with the Ash blonde hair and ridiculous stickers on his face. So sorry to interupt your day by wanting something to eat at 2pm. I mean after all polishing cutlery should take precedent over PAYING customers. Clearly this staff member dosen't like people, so do us all a favour and go work somewhere else instead of HOSPITALITY. Don't expect customers being nice to you when it's all too much of an effort for you to DO YOUR JOB. I've been a loyal supporter of this business for years accross all their venues and I'll be taking it up with management.
