Flea & Street Markets
Liouhe Night Market, also known as Liouhe Tourist Night Market, is a renowned open-air market in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Dating back to the 1940s, it boasts over 100 stalls predominantly offering delectable food options. The market is situated on Liuhe 2nd Road near Kaohsiung MRT Formosa Boulevard Station and comes alive after dark with its lively atmosphere.
We are fancy with large night market but rather prefer one with more local touch. We stayed near to this and love it much! We been visiting for 3 nights straight for different street foods, we got to learn that some stalls has been there for over 30 years or even longer history! Strongly recommend the foods we shared in pictures, and do visit a shop that sell the bags or accessories! The husband & wife shop owners are extremely friendly and their products are good quality with reasonable price! Many has been asking where I bought the nice bag 🤣😂 Love this market, grateful for all the lovely conversations we had and met with the locals here ❤️ 谢谢你们

We enjoyed dining here. It was a few minutes away from our hotel so we went here twice. Stayed at the tables near the grilled oysters and fried mushrooms but bought food from several stores. This review is mainly an appreciation post for the store that sells bags, we found them a few minutes before midnight so most stores were closed already. If you find yourself out of luggage space from having brought too many souvenirs/food, we found a store that sells big foldable bag for luggage check-in. Will post the photos for reference.

Liuhe Night Market (六合夜市) – Kaohsiung, Taiwan One of the best night markets to explore in Kaohsiung! The atmosphere is lively and full of local charm — colorful signs, friendly vendors, and an endless variety of street food to try. I tested several stalls and everything was freshly made and delicious. The grilled skewers and sausages were flavorful, while the fried snacks were crispy and satisfying. Prices are reasonable, and you can easily walk and eat your way through the market. It’s also very convenient to reach (right next to Formosa Boulevard MRT station), and the street is clean and organized compared to many other night markets. Perfect for both locals and travelers who want to taste authentic Taiwanese street food in a fun and safe environment. Highly recommended for a casual dinner or evening stroll — come hungry! 📍 Tip: Visit after 6 PM when most stalls are open, and bring some cash (many stalls don’t take cards).

Liuhe Night Market is just a five-minute walk from my hotel, so it was the first place I visited after checking in. I left my bags in the room and immediately headed out to grab something to eat. As soon as I arrived, the lively atmosphere greeted me—bright lights, food stalls lined up on both sides, and the smell of grilled seafood everywhere. The market was crowded with tourists and locals, all exploring the different food options. Most stalls sell seafood dishes, fried chicken, and milk tea, but there are also snacks, desserts, and souvenirs if you take time to look around. It’s a great place to experience local flavors and the energy of Kaohsiung at night. The best part is how close it is to my hotel, making it easy to visit again if I crave a late-night snack.

Its the only night market we went to while in Kaoshiung due to bad weather. We enjoyed the food here though only few stalls were open when we stroll as its still early but all the food we bought were superb!steamed white corn, sausage, fried squid is the best. A lot of fresh juice to chose from that really complements the food . Enjoyed eating everything while walking.

This is the night market at Kao Xiong. Near one MRT station. Quite hot even at night time. We came here on 25 September 2025, which is still a summer in Taiwan. Many different types of local food. They open from 5pm to 2am. The foods are almost the same for any other night market. They have another night market nearby too. Walking distance.

The Liuhe Night Market is one of the most famous and tourist-friendly night markets in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Liuhe Night Market is a bustling, straight pedestrian street packed with food stalls, game booths, and seating areas. It's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kaohsiung, offering a concentrated taste of Taiwanese street food culture in a clean and organized environment. Must-try different kind of foods, you won't disappoint.
Simon W — Google review
We went on a Monday night around 7pm. It’s just 1 long street so it’s easy to walk its entire length. You will find your typical Taiwan night market selling fruit drinks, cut up fruit, boneless chicken feet, Taiwanese sausages, pepper meat buns, pork jerky, Japanese street food, dumplings, green onion pancakes, and oyster omelettes to name a few. Besides a few grilled squid stands and fruit juice stands, I like that there wasn’t that many repeated food items offered. I’ve tried a few items but unfortunately nothing stood out for me to come back.

Gang Yuan Beef Noodle Restaurant in Kaohsiung is a must-visit for beef noodle enthusiasts. With over 60 years of history, this restaurant offers a unique take on the classic dish. The signature beef noodles feature thick and tender Australian beef in an original recipe broth that boasts a deliciously intense flavor. Priced at 110 NTD per bowl, the dish includes springy noodles and generous portions of flavorful beef in a clear soup.
Came around 7pm and there was along queue but it went by very quickly. They have a small menu so it’s easy to choose from. The portions are big and everything came quickly. They have spice and garlic sauces at every table. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. Cash only.
Alexis B — Google review
This bowl of beef noodle soup is truly impressive. The broth is beautifully clear with a deep amber hue and carries a natural sweetness—likely from slow-simmered vegetables or fruit—that gives it a rich yet refreshing flavor. It’s smooth, well-balanced, and incredibly easy to drink. The beef is tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of chew. Each piece soaks up the broth’s essence, making every bite satisfying. The noodles are springy and firm, pairing perfectly with the soup and enhancing the overall experience. There’s no need for extra seasoning—the original flavor stands strong on its own. What makes this bowl stand out is the distinct sweetness in the broth: gentle, comforting, and absolutely memorable. A dish worth coming back for.

This Beef Noodle is a MUST-TRY! 🔥🍜 If you're in town, you absolutely HAVE to try the beef noodles at 港園牛肉麵! 🤤 This is a legendary local spot for a reason. The broth is incredibly rich and flavorful, and the beef is fall-apart tender. Just pure comfort in a bowl. Heads up on the process: you order and pay with cash right at the entrance, then snag a table. It's super efficient! We went on a Monday around noon and still had a 15-20 minute queue, so this place is clearly loved by locals. Try to go during off-peak hours if you're in a rush! 🏃‍♂️💨 The portions are perfect for one person, and the price is very reasonable for the quality. 👍 Don't sleep on the side dishes! The cubed tofu and cured cucumber were the perfect companions to the rich noodles. 🥒 Pro-tip: you can grab a drink from the ice tea shop next door to bring in with you! My only small warning: it can get pretty warm inside! 🥵 On a super hot day, it can be a bit of a sweaty experience. But honestly, for noodles this good? I'd do it all over again. The food is just that worth it. ❤️

Worth going! Probably the best beef noodle I’ve had so far — high-quality beef, flavorful and tender. The broth is amazing, rich but not greasy. Don’t miss the fresh chili paste — it adds the perfect kick and enhances the beefy aroma even more. Also, the restaurant is clean and comfortable.
May S — Google review
Real enjoyed the beef noodle here. Soup is lighter than other places but packs a flavor punch and is really delicious. Wished they would put in more pieces of beef though but there are lots of side dishes you can get to enjoy while eating the noodles. Would definitely go back again. This is a popular restaurant so do expect to wait for a table.
Jan L — Google review
The broth is light and heavenly. Remember to also order the crunchy cucumbers and beer too. They go well with the beef noodles and tendons! No worries about the queue as it moves fast.
S L — Google review
Probably the greatest beef noodle I had with this affordable price. Takes a bit long to get what you ordered - like 10-15 minutes? But it's worth waiting with patience.
Dennis H — Google review
I like both their dry tossed pork knuckle noodle and beef broth noodle. Especially the dry noodle, I was impressed by how even aft I left it there like 10 min yet it didn't clump up. The sauce was flavorful yet not oily nor overpowering. The beef broth noodle was equally good though the broth had clean yet flavorful taste. But might be a tad light for some people. Beef tender and a mixture of some tendon and brisket. Noodles springy and beef tendon too had a nice bite, not too tough nor soft, cooked just right. Staff were obviously family like and cordial and polite. Place also decently clean(I sat next to toilet yet no foul smell) But I think a little pricey though. Portion of noodles were generous though.

Night market
Ruifeng Night Market, also known as Rueifong Night Market, is a bustling outdoor market located in Kaohsiung. It is the largest and most crowded night market in the city, offering a wide variety of traditional Taiwanese street food such as Taiwanese takoyaki, fried oyster omelette, and stinky tofu. In addition to food vendors, there are also stalls selling clothes and accessories.
Closed on Monday and Wednesday. Go after 6/7pm is better. It's very hot. If you visit Kaohsiung, this night market is MUST GO on your list!! It has food drinks shopping and entertainment in one spot. Low price range for most of the vendors you visit. I'm sure you can haggle if you like. Pretty much cash only. Some vendors might take LINE PAY. They are all nice and willing to show you the merchandise or how to play games. There's a service center in the middle if you need help.
Sharon H — Google review
This is one of the famous night markets in Kaohsiung. To get there you got to get to Kaohsiung Arena Metro Station. It's less than 5 mins walk from the metro station. It was super crowded when I visited. Lot of food stalls. Reasonably priced. The Angel Fried Chicken is a must try for sure, do not add the spicy powder if you want just enjoy the chicken. Just ask the vendor to add some minimum salt and pepper. Mine was overloaded with Spicy Powder. Nevertheless it's one of the best juicy fried chicken I have had. Other than that I tried the papaya milk, spicy fish balls, the Chinese omelette crepe, and another fried thing with an egg, the Japanese shrimp balls. Etc. Lot of choices. If you are planning to visit in the evening or night I suggest you to skip lunch so that you can try the maximum stuff you can stuff. Overall a great place and a must visit in Kaohsiung.
S S — Google review
About 5 minutes on foot from MRT station was probably the best night market in Kaohsiung. There were so many food options for us to try at reasonable prices. We specifically loved the fried stinky tofu with thousand-year egg. The grilled octopus, taro smoothie were also tasty. A great place to explore nightlife in Kaohsiung and Taiwanese dishes.
Lê K — Google review
I honestly prefer this night market compared to the one near my hotel. It’s more spacious, cleaner, and has a wider variety of stalls — not just food but also clothes, souvenirs, and local crafts. The best part is it doesn’t have that strong food smell like the other one, so walking around feels much more pleasant.
Ayo C — Google review
So many food stalls to choose from! Enjoyed our time in this market. Had to go back to try other food and delicacies. Loved it! The night market you should include in your itinerary esp if you’re a foodie.
Megan S — Google review
It’s OK, not great. I’m glad I came, but I don’t think I’ll be back. I had some chicken and rice, soup dumplings, which were not very soupy and some sweet pastry thing I don’t know the name of. We were here on the Thursday night and not all of the vendors were open. I feel like most of the food was premade, although it was fresh but just kept warm until someone asked for it and then they served it to you.
Tony L — Google review
The largest night market in Kaohsiung, Ruifeng is a must visit, bar none. It is located on a parking lot, in a similar style as those located in Tainan. Though half the size of the night markets of Tainan, Ruifeng is simply, the largest one in Kaohsiung. There is a wide variety of foods, specifically the seafood selection is awesome, with prices much lower than Taipei. We found some of the flavors to be fresh and the shellfish unbeatable. The density is rather high, as this is the only, parking lot oriented, night market in the city. There is also a wide variety of carnival games, darts, ring toss, airsoft, mahjong and arcade, in addition to some kiddy rides. As I travel throughout Taiwan, I have found at least three unique items at Ruifeng, which I have never encountered before.
Zong H — Google review
If night markets are the beating heart of Taiwan, then Ruifeng Night Market in Kaohsiung is its adrenaline rush. A dazzling chaos of sizzling grills, flashing signs, and hungry chatter — this night market is a flavor-packed playground for the soul. The moment I stepped into the crowd, the scent of fried chicken and grilled sugar hit me like a warm, greasy hug — and I knew I was home. First stop: the legendary fried chicken cutlet. Still crackling from the fryer, it came nestled in a grease-kissed paper pouch, golden and absurdly crispy. One bite and I was hooked. The crust had that perfect shatter, and inside, the chicken was juicy, steaming, and full of peppery, umami goodness. It’s the kind of snack that makes your hands greasy and your soul happy. But it wasn’t just about the savory hits. The real surprise came in dessert form — a cup of rolled ice cream, bright and cheerful, topped with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a perfectly toasted marshmallow. It was creamy, playful, and slightly nostalgic — a dessert that didn’t take itself too seriously but still delivered on flavor. Every spoonful was a contrast of textures: cool rolls, fluffy cream, chewy ‘mallow. Street food turned into edible joy. Ruifeng isn’t just about what you eat — it’s how it makes you feel. It’s the laughter of locals squeezing past each other, the anticipation as food sizzles before your eyes, and that late-night energy where anything feels possible.

Breakfast restaurant
Xing Long Ju is a well-known Taiwanese-style breakfast restaurant that has been serving traditional morning dishes since 1954. Located on Liu He road in Kaohsiung, it is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The cafeteria-style eatery offers a variety of breakfast items such as steamed dumplings, Chinese fried cakes, pot stickers, sandwiches, and their signature dish - Tangbao soup buns filled with tender meat and rich broth.
I visited this cozy breakfast spot around 11 AM on a public holiday, and despite the crowd, the wait was surprisingly short—just about 10 minutes. The line moved efficiently, and the entire experience felt well-organized. The ordering process is straightforward and seamless. You start by selecting your dim sum, then choose your drinks, and finally head to the cashier. It’s a smooth system that keeps things moving quickly. The food was fantastic! We especially loved their signature meat bun, which was incredibly juicy and flavorful. The pan-fried egg cake was another highlight—crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For drinks, the unsweetened soy milk is a great choice if you prefer something light and refreshing. One thing to note: after paying, you’ll need to find a table yourself. If seating on the ground floor is full, there’s an upper floor available, though it does require carrying your food upstairs. Overall, it was a great breakfast experience with delicious food and an efficient setup. Definitely worth a visit!
D C — Google review
I went there for breakfast around 8 AM, and there was already quite a line. The system is to line up to choose your food and pay, but it’s better to have someone grab a seat first to make sure you have a place to sit. On weekdays at 8 AM, there still seemed to be empty seats, since most people just come to eat and leave quickly without lingering. I tried : 1. Mushroom and vegetable bun—it was pretty good. 2. Soup Dumplings Pork Bun The most popular item here and it definitely lives up to the hype. There’s a bit of broth pork inside the steamed bun, so be careful when biting into it. 3. Flatbread with scallion omelette was decent. 4. Fried dough tasted pretty standard. I like their flat bread more than their fried dough. 5. Flatbread with egg, pickled mustard, and fried dough was actually really good, though it’s quite heavy on the carbs. 6. Pan-fried dumplings were good. Service was efficient, the food came out quickly, and the overall vibe was casual—just like a typical Chinese breakfast spot. It was nice and clean. The price was affordable.

Breakfast in Kaohsiung: A Hidden Morning Gem In the quiet hours before dawn, there is a small restaurant in Kaohsiung that begins its day at 4:30 a.m. and closes by 11:30 a.m. or earlier, when ingredients run out. It’s a place that rewards the early riser, a sanctuary for those who believe breakfast can be both humble and transcendent. By 6:30 a.m., the line had already formed locals, workers, and the occasional traveler like myself, all drawn by the same promise: flavor worth waiting for. And it was. The dumplings, delicate yet bursting with rich, savory broth, felt like a quiet revelation. Each bite released a rush of warmth and comfort that lingered far longer than expected. Two dumplings were enough to fill me; more would have been indulgence. To accompany the meal, I chose a cup of warm soy milk nutty, smooth, and subtly sweet the perfect counterpart to the dumplings’ gentle saltiness. There are few moments in travel when taste and time align so perfectly. That morning, in a narrow street of Kaohsiung, I was lucky enough to find one.
Patrick ( — Google review
I had the best juicy pork dumpling ever!! The queue was definitely worth it. I initially got confused with the queuing system but if you only want to get the juicy pork dumplings, you can queue in the left side. They have a sign for it. Also, as a foreigner who’s afraid to communicate because they don’t speak in english at all, the dumplings are 30NTD each. I thought it was 2 dumplings per box and priced at 30NTD. I paid 60NTD for 2.
Rissa L — Google review
We bought buns and xia long bao. All were tasty and we enjoyed a lot. Long queue and very busy. There’s a dining area for those who wants to dine in but expect long queue.its crowded when we came here 10am.
Kate S — Google review
This place is very popular so recommend getting here early. When we arrived there was a line forming from outside the street even though Google Maps said that it was not busy. Had the pork buns, which is a must try, and the You Tiao Bread, which is Turkish bread with eggs, vegetables and You Tiao. The food was delicious and very filling too!
Edwin K — Google review
Visited for breakfast on 2025-10-19, the staff were pretty efficient, but we queued for about 15 minutes because it was just That popular. Their freshly steamed buns were deeply filled with pork, cabbage and ginger, was delicious, and it’s full of soup/ juice so be careful when you take your first bite and not get sprayed on your clothes 😅
Gary — Google review
My top breakfast spot in Kaohsiung. 興隆居 serves truly traditional Taiwanese breakfast with consistently excellent quality. The sesame flatbread with fried dough is crisp and fragrant, and their signature soup buns are freshly made, juicy, and full of flavor. The soy milk is smooth and comforting, not overly sweet. There’s always a long queue even early in the morning, but the service is organized and moves quickly. A must-visit for anyone who wants to experience authentic local breakfast culture in Kaohsiung.

Din Tai Fung Kaohsiung Branch is part of a renowned chain with numerous locations in Asia and Europe. Despite its widespread presence, it stands out for its exceptional Chinese cuisine, earning multiple Michelin stars including the latest recognition for its Taipei branch. Established by Yang Bingyi in the late 1950s, the restaurant's name is linked to the location he settled in after relocating to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War.
Well i got a chance finally to dine at a Din Tai Fung in Taiwan. It was exceptionally good. I had to wait for nearly 60 minutes to be seated. Surprisingly it's the only branch in Kaohsiung and hence it's always packed. The staff were very welcoming and spoke to me in English all throughout. I ordered the prawn cake, pork chop with egg fried rice, spicy cucumber salad and pork and prawn dumpling with in house special sauce. All the food ordered was top quality. Cucumber salad has been a little overhyped by the tiktokers, it's just ok. Also the service was fast. They have mastered the preparation of their fried rice 😍. You need to order it on a app on your phone. I didn't order the Xiaong Long Baos as I have already had it in the past at the DTF branches in Manila, Dubai and Singapore. In Taiwan for some reason they don't give you the spicy chill oil / sauce. But nevertheless a great experience and kudos to DTF for managing the crowd and keeping up the food quality to such high standards in all their branches worldwide. My bill was around 1025 ntd for all the ordered items.
S S — Google review
Not the best Din Tai Fung, which most people know is the Taipei 101 location. But for expensive (for Taiwan) "fine dining" there is no bathroom in the restaurant. This is pretty inexcusable as you have to use the public bathroom attached to the food court of the shopping center, which was disgusting and out of hand soap. It's also very far from the dining tables. Two of the items in our order were also sold out after ordering them (marinated cucumber and eggplant). The Xiaolong Bao are also very small and the pork ones were overcooked. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour and might've been the worst, most flavorless hot and sour soup I've ever had. The fried rice was good, but the "crispy" pork was not even remotely crispy. The service was fantastic as always, with very attentive and friendly servers.

Went on a Monday evening thinking it'll be the least busy and we ended up having to wait for 45mins to be seated. I guess this place is very popular. Dining at a Din Tai Fung in Taiwan was on my to do list and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to do so. The food was delicious and I can see why. Highly recommend!

Din Tai Fung Kaohsiung is nothing short of a culinary revelation a restaurant that defines what it means to encounter food that stirs the soul. The dim sum here is an emotional experience: as the delicate wrapper bursts open, a rush of broth flows out, evoking the fleeting brilliance of a fireworks display. Yet, the true masterpiece of this establishment is not the dumplings but the fried rice a dish so refined it transcends mere flavor and enters the realm of art. Among the world’s finest tables, none have achieved such harmony of texture, aroma, and taste. It is, quite simply, divine a taste of heaven on earth. To have lived long enough to savor the food at Din Tai Fung Kaohsiung feels like a privilege, a reminder that perfection, though rare, does indeed exist in this world.

Never have I ever had such fast and efficient service, food was great to top it off, and no mistakes. Wish more places take note of how they operate here. Super clean as well, food is always covered till just before you get it and tables are sanitized after each use. Plus a cool robot will lead you to your seat.

It was in B1 floor, and super crowded. Even though we were there after lunch time on a weekday, it took us ~100 minutes to wait for our turn. I guess it was because of being the only branch in Kaohsiung. As at the other branches, staff was supet friendly and professional with good English communication. Special thanks to Berry who handled our orders excellently. Beef soup and wonton soup was amazingly tasty. Xiaolongbao was the star!

We were so excited to finally try Din Tai Fung in Taiwan! As regulars at the Seattle location, it felt special to experience it at its home. We ordered two baskets of soup dumplings, the beef noodle soup, and the cucumber salad—some of our go-to favorites. While we loved the overall atmosphere and were over the moon to be there, we did feel the flavors didn’t quite meet our expectations compared to what we’re used to in Seattle. The beef noodle soup especially tasted a bit bland and lacked the complexity of broth we normally enjoy. The cucumber salad also had less sauce than we’re accustomed to, leaving many cucumbers uncovered, which made it feel less balanced. We also noticed that there weren’t chilies on the table as there are in the U.S. locations—we had to keep asking for them, which took away from the experience a little. On the positive side, we loved that tea was served consistently and refilled often—it added a nice touch. The service here was excellent, even better than in the U.S. locations. The staff were attentive, warm, and really made our visit enjoyable. Overall, we’re glad we got to experience Din Tai Fung in Taiwan, even if the flavors didn’t quite match what we’re used to back home. The hospitality made the visit worthwhile, and we’ll always treasure the memory of dining at its original home.

Din Tai Fung is just awesome. Go there. Get in debt if you must. We went on Friday around 4 PM and the wait time here was just 10 minutes. They have a cool ticketing system. You get it to join the queue. You can look up the current number using the QR code while doing sth else in the shopping mall. Their dishes are great and the service kind and efficient!

Restaurant
Duck Zhen is a popular, unpretentious restaurant that has been serving traditional duck dishes for over 70 years. Located just a short walk from Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, it attracts a large number of food enthusiasts. The secret to its success lies in the four-hour marination process used for the duck meat. Renowned chef Lanshu Chen has even listed Duck Zhen as her go-to place for duck dishes in Kaohsiung.
Amazing duck rice! it’s sliced duck pieces served on top of braised pork rice. It’s a flavour bomb. Serving is not huge, a large bowl is NT$70, I could probably have 3 bowls to myself. Also tried the duck noodles - it was also good but I prefer it with rice. Environment doesn’t look super clean but it was completely fine. they have toilets available.
Kenny T — Google review
There was a pretty long line when I went during a weekday lunch hour. I ordered the duck rice with braised pork, and it was good—the duck was tender and juicy, and the pork was nicely seasoned too. I also tried the dry duck vermicelli, though it wasn’t completely dry—maybe from the sauce or because the vermicelli weren’t fully drained. The flavor was great, but the vermicelli were a bit mushy for my taste. The water spinach was just okay, the flavor was pretty average, but still had a nice crunch. I also had the duck leg, which seemed to be seasoned differently from the duck in the rice. This one tasted a bit bland and under-seasoned. Even though the restaurant was busy, it wasn’t hard to find a table since people didn’t linger, and the food came out quickly.
Tessa W — Google review
This bowl of braised duck rice immediately captivates with its rich aroma. The glossy sauce seeps into the white rice, infusing each bite with layers of duck fat fragrance and savory depth. The duck meat is tender yet pleasantly chewy, retaining its natural flavor, while the bits of braised pork fat add a luscious, salty-sweet richness that’s indulgent but never greasy — truly irresistible from the first bite to the last. The accompanying offal soup complements it perfectly. The broth is clear yet full-bodied, carrying the essence of duck bones balanced with the gentle spiciness of shredded ginger. Each sip is warm and soothing, with the cleanly prepared duck innards adding both texture and depth. Overall, this humble duck rice set showcases exquisite craftsmanship — flavorful, comforting, and deeply satisfying. Whether for lunch or a late-night meal, it’s the kind of dish that fills not only the stomach but also the soul.

I made a special trip to try this restaurant during a public holiday in Taiwan. Arriving at 12 PM during the lunch rush, we waited about 25 minutes for a table—slightly longer than expected, but every second was worth it! What I love about this place is its no-fuss approach. The menu is simple yet thoughtful, with each dish carefully prepared. You absolutely must try their duck—it's unbelievably tender, packed with flavor, and served with this incredible sauce that makes you want to savor every bite. I couldn't stop eating the rice that came with it! The ordering system is brilliant: just place your order, grab a seat, and the attentive staff brings everything to you quickly. From the first bite to the last, everything was perfect—the flavors, the service, the whole experience. This is exactly the kind of place you'll want to tell all your foodie friends about!

We had their classic duck meat and pork rice. It was very good, and although not our favorite meal in Taiwan still very worth going out of the way to try. There's always a long line but service is relatively quick and efficient.

Wow, super yum! We ordered braised duck and braised pork on rice, duck glass noodle soup, and braised duck. I highly recommend these three dishes — a must-try! Enjoy, guys!
Leisure 休 — Google review
Food was great! The duck was sooo tender. Soup so heartwarming. We had the pork rice, and the duck rice. It seems like the duck rice is just pork rice + duck. Also had 1/4 duck. This one had bones, and more tender compared to the one in rice, which were boneless. Overall, worth the loooooong line. The cashier very politely recommended some dishes to my friend, despite the place being busy.

I nicely received help from a Vietnamese staff 😌 thanks to her I could try all of their great food. I recommend the duck rice more than the noodles. we spent around 650元 for 4 people.

Bakery
Wu Pao Chun Bakery is a renowned Taiwan-French fusion bakery that has gained immense popularity for its delectable pastries and bread. Founded by Wu Pao Chun, a celebrated Taiwanese baker known for his award-winning sourdough bread in France, the bakery offers a unique twist on traditional loaves by incorporating Chinese medicinal fruit to cater to local tastes. The Linseed and Cranberry bread, priced at 90 NTD (S$3).
2 weeks ago, I have visited this Wu Pao Chun Bakery and bought some pineapple cake. Unfortunately, they no longer have the original pineapple cake flavor like before. Although the flavor is still good, the addition of winter melon (冬瓜)makes the pineapple flavor not as strong as before. I still prefer the original pineapple flavor, I hope the store can produce the original pineapple flavor again so that customers will have more choices. Thank you☺️👌

We got some nice breads and pineapple cake from this famous bakery while recovering from indigestion issue in Taipei and Kaohsiung. Luckily their breads / buns are good and we especially like their Salzburg ham & cheese bread, floss & seaweed bun, and red-bean bun. The bakery shop is nicely decorated and quite spacious so you can shop with no anxiety like in other bakeries across Taiwan. The customer services from staff members are also good and they reasonably speak adequate English for tourists like us, but don't expect much conversation. However, you can ask about their products in English and get reasonable / understandable reply. Prices are still good value for the high quality, though they may feel high compared to other bakeries' offering in the area.

I am so impressed with this bakery! I love bread, and always thought that such a high quality bakery could only be found in Europe. This place is every bit as good as famous French bakeries! Unfortunately there is not really any seating, but maybe that’s just as well, because if there was, I would probably stay all day buying more and more bread snacks.
Travellight T — Google review
Loves the bread here. The loaf, the buns, etc. The variations and creativity are good. It satisfies my Carbo craves. My favourite is the Custarnova - the custard is fresh and soft, sesame mochi 😋, brown raisin - simple yet yummy, brown sugar loaf, etc.

As a french traveler and bakery lover, I haven't been disappointed. I even went twice. They propose delicious and refined bakeries, mixing asian products with well executed european bakery classics, be it the bread or puff pastry. Really accessible for people who don't understand mandarin as product's descriptions are translated in english. Furthermore, you can pick the bakeries yourself.

Wu Pao Chun Bakery in Kaoshuing! We were in bread heaven. The most amazing and interesting breads to be had - edamame and tuna, earl grey and cranberry bagels, strawberry and cheese sourdough and more! Their millet wine, rose petals and lychee bread even won BEST BREAD at the 2010 Bakery Masters in Paris. It was pretty darn good.

Visited Wu Pao Chun's bakery after watching his autobiography movie. It's so famous that the queue was really long, and everything sold out so quick. Love their new Rose Lover bread( the one with two hearts). So happy that I've finally tried their famous Taiwan Lychee Rose champion Bread, yum!

Smokey Joe's is a trendy hotel with bohemian-style rooms and a vibrant American-themed restaurant and bar. First of, their service was outstanding! The staff were really friendly and they went out of their way to wake us up to eat breakfast as breakfast timing was about to end. Their beef noodle is AMAZING. its better than the ones sold outside! The hotel interior is crazy beautiful with lots of oldies hipster items!!! Not to mention that they play 70~80's songs which made the ambience even better! Their toothbrush all the way to their coffee and tea are their brand and the designs are cute and awesome!!!! Can't wait to go back to this hotel the next time i visit Kaohsiung!!! The train station is only 5 min walk away and 7-11 in just across a small road! Will strongly recommend this hotel and i cant wait to visit them again!

Went here in 2020 and had a great experience. We just returned and had horrible service. If you look like or are a foreigner, don’t waste your breath. No one wanted to talk to us even though my husband is half Taiwanese and speaks Mandarin. We were seated at a table in a secluded room on the second floor for 30 minutes and no one took our drink order. Every single group that arrived after us was being served and some finished meals all while we were never even approached. Someone came in and removed dirty dishes and ignored us. Finally, as we were getting ready to leave someone came in. We were over it at this point. We had a hungry 2 year old as well. This was not okay. The racism was blatant. I don’t know what happened in the last 5 years but we won’t be back. A place that once held happy memories for us ruined our entire day.

I had the squid with home-made black ink noodles and garlic sauce. It was excellent! The squid was very fresh and delicately cooked so it was tender. The noodles were delicious in the garlic sauce and fun to coax into twirling around my fork. My only regret is that they didn't stock an IPA beer that I could drink with it

This is a good spot to relax, the atmosphere is relaxing. The food is supposed to be American/Tex-Mex however it does fall short of that reputation. The food isn't bad just not a good representation of the states. However the lasagna is amazing! 3 stars, would go back for the atmosphere.

Tried the seafood Mac & Cheese. Portion is very small and expensive. Flavours were ok, I just found it a very small meal and could have been larger for the price you pay $360. Service was quick and I didn’t have to wait for a long time. Nicely designed inside and good to take a few photos.

Comfortable atmosphere. Good music. I went on a Thursday night a couple of hours before closing time. Was not crowded inside. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork with a drink. I did not use the restroom so I do not know what it was like. My food was cooked thoroughly and in a timely manner. My only complaint is, once I was seated it was 10 mins before anyone came to ask me what I would like to drink

The food is nothing special, but rather boring. Mozzarella sticks tasted cheap, and the burger was almost cold. For that price, you have many better restaurants in Kaohsiung. 2/5 would not recommend fam. You guys should go to Jack Brothers!! The Hi-Lai Harbour Hi-Lai Branch is a popular restaurant known for its diverse Asian and Japanese cuisine, including delectable seafood and unique sushi dishes. With a variety of seating options, it's an ideal spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family. Located on the 43rd floor, the restaurant offers outstanding quality and breathtaking views. If you want to have a hearty breakfast in Kaohsiung I believe this place pulled out all the stunts in its sleeves. It means business. Just for coffee, you got 4 kinds of beans to choose from. All kinds of Taiwanese street food available. They even have seafood porridge Taiwanese style. Western cuisine is a plenty. Pasta , bacon and anything in between. Love their Taiwanese cakes , savoury and nice. Overall a very very sumptuous spread.
Mark O — Google review
This restaurant is located at 43rd floor of Grand Hi-Lai hotel, with amazing view of the Kaohsiung harbor, but sadly the restaurant doesn’t capitalize on this advantage, as they keep the balcony doors closed. We were there for breakfast buffet that was included with our stay at the hotel. I was overwhelmed to see all different types of breakfast meals this place served. There were about six different stations serving Chinese and American style breakfasts. This included dim sum items, noodle soup, rice dishes, cereal stations, bagels, croissants, bread, sausages, and of course omelettes and eggs. There were six different types of drinks from dispensers. It took me a while to walk the whole floor, check all items and finally get some plates of food. Ironically the huge variety of the buffet was also their curse, as I didn’t find any items really tasty, most of them were bland. They were good in quantity but not quality, since they had to keep up with so many types of dishes. The service was nice though, our table was regularly cleaned. The staff were doing a good job of getting the tables ready quickly, to keep up with the morning rush of hotels guests coming over for breakfast.

This is an all you can eat buffet, mainly aimed for seafood, but interestingly I found that the beef and pork was better (don't get me wrong, the seafood was already very good and fresh). This place will almost be packed every time, so make sure to book the table and come early. Sometimes, you can get a better deal by getting a coupon sold in a market place. However, the original price is already a good bargain.

Excellent dinner buffet! Very good service, casual atmosphere, clean, excellent value. The restaurant is located on the 43rd floor of a hotel. The buffet had a wide selection of dishes and the buffet tables were well maintained. The servers were very attentive and quick to remove dirty dishes and bring extra napkins. The buffet had seafood, a huge selection of deserts, plus beer and wine. The atmosphere were a little busy because of all of the people. If you come after 7:30 pm, they give you a 20 percent discount. However, they do not take reservations after 7 pm. Overall, a very nice meal and outstanding value. -- Tourist from the U.S.A.

If you're looking to buy some pineapple cakes, this is the place to go. It's an interesting concept bc it's not a traditional store that puts merchandise out in display. Instead it's more of a cafe where they give you a choice between 2 free options, tea with pineapple cake or coffee with banana cookie. Obviously there's going to be a line, but we only waited about 15-20 mins for group of 6ppl. Service was awesome bc they were very attentive refilling drinks. I felt a bit bad since it was free though I'm sure it's part of the strategy to get you to buy the pineapple cakes Coffee was a pour over and very good. Tea equally tasty. Now I personally don't like pineapple cakes but my wife assured me it's some of the best she's had. I enjoyed the banana cookies though. Kids really liked how the banana cookies have precut shapes so you can pop out the animal shapes.

They were out of half of their menu, no fries (the place prides itself on poutine). After I made my order they informed me that they didn't have the dessert I ordered. Actually, today they were even out of salad. Oh, and cash only, no cards. It doesn't matter how good the pictures of the food are, since they're not gonna have it to serve to you. Excellent poutine…got to mention that. The poutine was hot and delicious and stayed warm for a long time. The meat sandwich, Rueben I think, was quite tasty too. Very friendly employees. Cost was $540 for poutine, sandwich & Coke. Not cheap but for such a rare menu I’m ok with it.

As a Canadian I was super excited to try Yaletown Bistro. Personal opinion, I found the Honey Dijon Chicken Panini ok (not the most flavorful although a great size), and the nanaimo square was ok as well (the yellow custard filling was grainy and sugary instead of smooth) but was a nice reminder of home nonetheless, the effort was definitely appreciated :). The atmosphere was awesome, with some really neat souvenirs/goods to buy. For sure going back for the zucchini walnut and banana loaves that looked super moist! (NT $270 for the panini and square) - forgot pictures.

Iono really good. This'll be the third time I'm going back so... Actually the first time I ordered some bacon tuna thing. Manages to be cute, though I don't think that's what they were going for.

Amazing food. If you are craving Western-style fresh cuisine with the proper kindness of Canadian people, this is the place to go. Decorated beautifully inside. Outdoor patio available with smoking section, large comfy couches and plants. Get a menu and then mark on the menu what you wish to order. They have a larger, more detailed menu for you to browse through too that explains what each meal is like. Employees were super kind to us. They had recommendations and were curious about our travels to the city. Made us feel so welcomed. We ordered the tuna salad (delicious tuna, not made with a ton of mayo, and freshly mixed with herbs like dill.) their chicken caesar panini with bacon, the lava cake (heavenly. Had crunchy bits atop the cake, served with vanilla ice cream.) a beer and their strawberry lemonade, which was blended fresh. Total came out to around 800NT. I felt so very satisfied and fresh after eating here. Tip - get here around 4:30 to eat an early dinner, then walk 10 minutes to the harbor to catch sunset by 5:30. Gorgeous experience.

Lots of food available. Not so congested and very accessible. Friendly people and good foods.

Of the four major night markets south of Central Park, this one is by far, my favorite. Compared to Xingzhong, Guanghua and Jhongsiao, this market has the widest variety of foods, including a Japanese, a Cantonese (Hong Kong) style meat vendor, two fresh fruit vendors, including roasted nuts, plus a specialty desert, which always has a queue. There is also an indoor food court (Lingya Market), with a few small restaurants, slightly more upscale than what I usually encounter (see pic). Though there is nothing wrong with the other three, as two of them are much bigger with double or triple the vendors, they serve the normal foods available throughout Taiwan, which appeals to the locals' diet (noodles, stews, etc.), which they consume daily. For me, it would be like eating pasta every day, with variables being the ingredients and the soup base. Lingya/Ziquiang is midsized, running along a single block, east to west, however it also turns south with Fragrant Park anchoring the eastern edge, into a "L" shape and the variety of foods here maybe greater than Liuhe, which is located to the north and a favorite for tourist. Being a little off the beaten path, Lingya/Ziquiang has few foreigners and appears to be the "gourmet" night market for locals. There are two public bathrooms, one is within the daytime market building, where the fruit vendors are, on the south side of the street, (see video) opposite the parking lot. The other is located within Fragrant Park. All in all, if one were to visit any of the night markets south of Central Park, this should be prioritized.

Were there at 7pm on Sunday and most of the shops and stalls were closed! Yes! CLOSED! We were shocked and could see some other tourists had the same feelings as ours. Was it because that we went there at the wrong time, or it was overrated?
Lê K — Google review
An alright night market, but didn’t seem to have as much variety as the other night markets like Ruifeng. The stalls are also along an active road, so there’s a near constant stream of motorcycles that come very close to you. Would recommend trying the other night markets instead.

Felt too open. Lots of traffic going back and forth on the street. Nice because all the places had plenty of seating. But not my favourite

Just left the place, a lot must-try recommendations happened to be closed today Tried the other 3 that’s opened Turkey rice (large) NTD50 - nice salty taste with deep fried onions/garlic. Reminds me of Singapore’s Eat3Bowls chicken rice Garlic Stinky Tofu NTD70 - very delicious compared to the many I’ve tried in my Taiwan trips. Expect to wait for at least 10 people before you when order (about 15-20 mins). Seller’s tip to eat with the sauce really boosted the taste Meat dumplings NTD50/10pcs skin is thick, resulting ratio between skin and meat not as ideal. Long wait to order, long wait to get own table (red ones behind the stall), long wait be served (we’re still waiting after ordered dumplings & finished stinky tofu)

My visit of Ziqiang Night market was mostly not very pleasant. It is basically one straight street with a lot of local food vendors along both sides of the street but what makes it unpleasant is that the street is still open for motorbikes and scooters. The constant flow of hundreds of scooters and motorbikes is annoying and dangerous if you do not pay attention to them. The only good thing is that despite the focus on the traffic I still managed to get a box with a selection of good, fresh and cheap sushi and the nice vendor packed me even one piece more.

Hou De Fu Soup Dumplings and Noodles is a casual spot known for its delicious dumplings and pancakes, with the option for take-out. While it can get quite busy during dinner time on weekends, the dishes are generally tasty and reasonably priced. The xiaolongbao, though not comparable to those from Dintaifung, are a must-try as they also contain flavorful soup inside.
A friend’s family took me here. Without reservation, it will be a super long line to wait. Must have the sweet pancake, and the free mixed black tea + soy milk. Totally forgot to take pics. Very authentic local food.

We walked passed this local restaurant and found a large crowd waiting. We decide to give it a try, for a quick lunch. The waiting was about 15 mins and we shared with another family for a big round table. The foods were yummy. However, two of us got light food poisoning after that.

Dumpling Heaven & So Much More! 🤤 Stumbled upon this gem for a late Sunday brunch and wow, what a find! 🤩 We walked in around 11 AM and were seated immediately, which is always a great start to a meal. The vibe is super local and authentic. Don't worry if your Chinese isn't perfect! The staff are so helpful and will happily mark the order sheet for you. Plus, they have an English menu with pictures so you know exactly what you're getting. 📸 It’s a very chill, self-service setup – you can grab your own little appetizer plates from a cabinet and pour yourself some cold tea or soy milk. So easy! 👍 Now, let's talk about the food. Oh. My. Goodness. The DUMPLINGS! 🥟 They were absolutely divine – juicy, flavorful, and just perfect. Even simple dishes like the fried vegetables with garlic were packed with flavor and incredibly delicious. 🥬🧄 Honestly, everything we ordered was a home run. This place is a 10/10. It’s a no-frills spot that delivers big on authentic flavor and friendly service. Can't wait to come back for another round of everything! ❤️

Northern Chinese Comfort Food in Taiwan — A Taste of Home My father is from Shandong, a province in northern China. He fled to Taiwan with the KMT army in 1949, and ever since, northern Chinese cuisine — rich in noodles, green onion naan, and dumplings — has been a staple in our family life. So whenever I return to Taiwan for a family visit, finding a place that serves this familiar comfort food is a must. These dishes are almost impossible to find where I live in the UK, so every bite feels like home. This restaurant we visited gets everything just right. It’s not fancy — and that’s the point. You don’t come here for the decor, you come for the food. From the moment you sit down, you’re greeted with a variety of small starter dishes — each one a burst of flavor and nostalgia, as you can see in the photos I’ve shared. Mum always orders the traditional sweet and sour soup — tangy, warming, and full of texture. For me, dumplings are non-negotiable, along with their green onion naan, which is flaky, savory, and beautifully aromatic. The dumplings come steamed or boiled — both equally delicious. This place doesn’t have an English menu, but don’t let that stop you. Just do what I recommend: look around at what other customers are eating and point at what catches your eye. Or better yet, show them the photos I posted. The staff here are friendly and more than happy to help you order a delicious, hearty meal. If you’re ever in Taiwan and want a taste of real northern Chinese comfort food — this is the kind of place to seek out.

The sweet pancake is delicious, but a bit too sweet after the first several bites. The fried vegetables with garlic was great. We would not recommend the red chili oil dumplings - if you have ever had authentic ones from Sichuan, these are a completely different flavour that is sweeter, we prefer the original version. Best part is the unlimited soy milk

Honestly this is the best restaurant that I went to in Kaohsiung. I stayed in Koahsiung for over a month, tried many places, yet I came back to Hou De Fu around 6 times. Their soup dumplings are a must try, along with their onion scallion pancake and vegetarian green gyozas. The ambience inside is great too, very chaotic in the best way. Service is usually quite good but if you are in a big group or are going there on the weekend make sure you get there early (around 6pm). Thank you so much! I will be dreaming about the food here :). P.s. there is unlimited soya milk, ginger and extremely tasty peanut spice sauce.

I visited Hou De Fu Soup Dumplings and Noodles on 28 April 2025 with my boyfriend and had a good dining experience. The dish we ordered was delicious and freshly cooked, and the portion size was just enough. My favorite is the sweet Pan Cake, Wonton in Spicy Chili Sauce, Hot and Sour Soup, and Fried Pork Ribs – it really stood out. The service was fast and attentive. The food came out in reasonable time. They offer free drinks in two options: Red Tea and Soy Milk. There's more sauce beside the drink area, too. The ambiance was lively and everyone is given seats upon entering, with clean tables and comfortable seating. Prices were fair for the quality of food and experience. There's a long line during peak hours, so i highly recommend for everyone who wants to try this place to not come hungry. I would definitely recommend this place to others, especially for late lunches and dinners. For english menu, please look at the photos I provided.

Night market
Nanhua Tourist Night Market, also known as Xinxing Night Market or Ladies Street, is a covered daytime market located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It offers a variety of clothing and everyday items at reasonable prices, with the opportunity to bargain for even lower prices. While it mainly caters to women's fashion and accessories, there are also options for men and children.
Location : beside the Kaohsiung main post office, Formosa Boulevard MRT station exit 5. When I first came to Kaohsiung 20 odd years ago, this place was bustling and trendy and a treasure trove of exciting finds in clothes, shoes, accessories. Nowadays, although upgraded with a lively mural that pops at the Jungjeng road entrance and beautiful changing lights on the ceiling, it is much quieter with a lot of vacant stalls. Note though that attached pictures were taken a week day visit, so more stalls will be open on weekends. However, there are still lots of great choices for inexpensive bargain footwear, not so trendy clothing, food and drink stalls. The prices are comparable to online sellers with the advantage of seeing and trying on what catches your eye. Dance costumes, traditional Chinese dresses, elegant gowns can also be found here as well as a textile shop, curtain maker and sexy, suggestive clothing. There is also a cobbler who can do shoe repairs and a shop that sells upscale luggage that advertises luggage repair! Hard to find elsewhere, traditional practitioners of cosmetology like threading, waxing, manicure and pedicure, cheap facials are still here😀 The seller of the QQ (fried sweet potato) balls is still in his corner slot, the fruit seller (cut, ready to eat as well as whole fruit) is still there as well as the stalls selling various cooked to order foods. Would I come back here? Definitely YES! While I like the quiet and lack of bustle, i pray and hope business improves and we don’t lose this old style night market that has so much more character and charm than the trendy malls and online shops. Parking lot is available at the Jungshan/Minsheng corner as well as some street parking. Accessibility-all flat suitable for wheelchairs.

An iconic Taiwanese night market with everything from food to drinks, clothes to jewellery and fun activities for children. A must-visit spot for anyone wanting to experience an authentic street market in Kaohsiung. Dan-Dan Hamburger is a modest fast-food joint that serves up a variety of dishes including burgers, fried chicken, and noodle soups. Visitors have described it as an essential stop for anyone wanting to experience authentic Taiwanese cuisine. The breakfast sandwich combo with coffee, French fries, nuggets, and stuffed hash brown received mixed reviews but was generally considered decent. The pork patty in the breakfast hamburger was thin and lacked lettuce while the sauce was not very flavorful.
I really enjoy Dan-Dan Hamburger, every time I go to Kaohsiung I try to stop in for a lunch or dinner. It is fast food but better quality than typical fast food. Good flavor and interesting combos! Not much seating inside which can be a pain if you don’t plan on carrying out

The flavor is definitely on the heavier and sweeter side, just as I expected (I’m from Taipei). I enjoyed everything I ordered, and the highlight for me was definitely the fried chicken! A national treasure like that really deserves to be everywhere - just saying.

I have been told I'm not Taiwanese until I eat here. My family and I ordered their breakfast sandwich combo with a coffee as well french fries, nuggets and a stuffed hash brown. Overall the food is pretty good, but not sure what is their main seller. My breakfast hamburger was ok, the pork patty and egg was very thin and there hardly any lettuce. The sauce wasn't sweet or had much flavour. Their hash brown was very crispy and stuffed with corn. This restaurant reminds me of a Taiwanese McDonald's. This location is very busy with long but quick lines. Due to Covid there is no dine in, only to go orders. Parking is a mess as there isn't enough locations. Which isn't their fault. The staff there is friendly but very busy with pushing so many orders. I would recommend you give them a try, but take someone with experience with their menu.
Carlos P — Google review
(No English menu but has pics) I think the price is very good. But I don’t think the burger and the soups are special. I see many people order deep fried chicken and it looks good. But I prefer to have a little bit healthier breakfast... anyway, I think the price is good but food are just not bad.
Yvonne L — Google review
Ordered a set Fried chicken burger Mee sua noodles Coke Sweet potato fries (+25yuan to set meal) I'll recommend the fried chicken burger. Tasty and well fried. It's just bun, fried chix patty, lettuce and mayo. A simple burger. The noodles is eaten using a spoon without chopsticks. Noodles, starchy sauce, and small chunks of fried meat. The starchy sauce is more than the noodles so I didn't enjoy this dish. Sweet potatoes fries are thick and chunky. It isn't crispy but soft and chewy. Four stars for the food because it doesn't suit my taste except for the fried chicken burger. My taiwanese friend said Dain Dain burger outlets can only be found in Tainan and Kaoshiung so just give it a try! The fast food outlet is small. Not many tables for dining in. I think just 6 tables? I'll suggest finding a seat first before ordering. Definitely challenging to get a seat if you drop by during meal times. There is a paid outdoor parking opposite this outlet. Limited lots. 50yuan an hour.

Very local fast food.combined with Taiwanese and western style burgers.but has its own character.its been in Kaohsiung more than 30 years.but still very popular.plus the price is very friendly.

Dandan Hamburg is like the In-N-Out of Kaoshiung. It is a fast food spot with Taiwanese cuisine as well as some typical fast food fare. The most cravable item to me is the chicken sandwich. The chicken is fried very well... so crispy and flavorful, I want one just thinking about it! The milk tea and milk coffee are also surprisingly good. Everything else was just okay to me, which is expected out of fast food, but the chicken sandwich is enough to bring me back. This location is a bit out of the way though if you are traveling by public transportation. The closest MRT station, the Sanduo Shopping District Station, is a bit of a walk.

Located in a simple setting, Xus Dumpling is a no-frills restaurant that specializes in crafting delectable homemade dumplings and classic noodles. So glad we found this place! The dumplings are delicious- pork and cabbage. Pork rib noodles are great too, especially the noodles. They make it in front of you! There's an English menu too. Limited seating inside but friendly staff!

Large dumplings with generous filling ($90 for 10, $45 for 5). The pork meat was lean and not too oily and fatty. Pork ribs noodle ($100) was delicious and you can choose to have thick or thin noodles. They slice noodle flour on the spot and then boil it right away. Raw, whole garlic cloves available. No name on the outside of restaurant

Ordered the FATTEST (but not fattiest) dumplings ever. Mmm that meat and veg (maybe cabbage??) Filling is rather divine. The noodles are rather omnomnicious . Pork is tender mmm. Yep. But make sure you come on an empty stomach as this is incredibly filling! There is more seating upstairs so don't let the small seating area at the front fool you. 😅

These were my favorite dumplings in the city! I didn't see any seats to eat there so be prepared to take it out. Also if you are traveling through(like me) the only menu is the one on the wall which is hard to translate with Google. But the family running the shop is super kind and will make sure you get what you want💜 I got the dumplings but next time I would add the short rib soup! It looked really good.

Best dumplings we had in Kaohsiung! So juicy and made fresh. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Maharaja Indian Restaurant in Kaohsiung is known for its authentic and delicious Indian cuisine. It's recommended to visit with a group to fully enjoy the variety of dishes offered. The food, prepared by Indian chefs, is highly praised for its quality and flavor. The menu includes popular dishes like dal makhani, kadai paneer, tomato soup, vegetable biryani, and paneer Tikka. Patrons appreciate the attention to detail in matching spices and flavors perfectly.
I had a great experience at Maharaja Indian Restaurant. Today, I went to that place with some friends. We opted for a pre-set menu for four people, which was enough to satisfy our hunger. If you're unsure, this may assist you in making a decision. Additionally, you have the option to order other items. Once we sat down, the menu was promptly placed on our table, and soon after, we had it in our possession. In my opinion, this is one of the restaurants in Kaohsiung that offers authentic Indian cuisine. Although it may be a bit expensive, the dining experience you will receive here is definitely worth it. Some of us were not aware that the menu was pre-set and found it to be too spicy. Perhaps we should have kindly reminded the chef about our dietary preferences. Just a friendly reminder that the Indian chef is very accommodating and happy to tailor our dining experience to our preferences. They open in the evening after 5:30. Scooters can park in the available spaces in front. Additionally, there are nearby parking lots that require payment.

Great food, good company, good wine, great service, big improvement from last visit. New menu created with well balanced flavors, a well executed cuisine happy to find here in Kaohsiung. Lots of dishes ordered to sample. Full marks and recommended. 👍🏻👍🏻
Alex B — Google review
Personally, I think this restaurant has a great atmosphere with its industrial-style decor. I particularly enjoyed the paintings featuring food and the warm glow of the dim yellow lighting. However, the food tastes average, and I don’t believe it is worth the price. Tuna with Bread ★★★★★ The bread was perfectly toasted, releasing a delightful aroma that enhanced the eating experience. The tuna sauce, made with both tuna paste and raw tuna, paired wonderfully with the bread. Grilled Oysters ★★★★★ This was the best appetizer we ordered. Each oyster costs only 65 NT dollars, yet they were fresh and paired perfectly with the cheese. Seafood Pasta ★ Although it included a variety of fresh seafood like shrimp, clams, and scallops, the linguine was hard, and the flavors didn’t complement the seafood. Warm Roasted Duck Breast ★ This dish was difficult to chew, because it had many sinews. The waiter explained that they intentionally chose a part with more sinews, but perhaps they should remove them to make the price of this meal more reasonable. Coconut Milk Latte ★ The flavor of this beverage was a bit off—too bitter and too sweet. The sugar didn’t mask the bitterness of the coffee; instead, it seemed to make it even stronger. Pineapple Cake ★ This dessert looked delicate, but the best part was the crispy cookie on top. The cake itself tasted average and lacked creativity in its flavor and shape.

The meals are really good and the kitchen is professionnel . However the service is awful: our wine for the appetizers arrived after we finished them and they served the main course with the appetizers. As a result the lamb was cold when we started eating it. The service is not at the level of this good restaurant. Definitely not for picky eaters.

檸檬冬瓜很出乎意料的好喝。食物也很棒,從前菜到甜點都有讓人驚艷的亮點,補足了從點菜系統到服務流程的諸多奇怪體驗。 [Good Food and Beverage, awkward and stammered service and terrible ordering system] Gourd lemon is surprisingly refreshing, food is great too, from appetizer to dessert gave me a WOW. It covers the flaws from robotic service and bizarre sequence of serving: first guest arrive on-time, request if we could swap to a bigger table, the staff said yes at first, after changing to the other table, staff said bigger table is reserved. But til the end of day, no guests occupying that reserved table. When late coming guest arrived, even though they have been notified the table number and location, staff insists holding them tick the reservation full name and give some minor reminders. Ordering system is utterly user-unfriendly. Some items gone from the order received by kitchen. Changing quantity of drinks also very hectic and came out wrongly. Therefore we have to place the other order manually, at the end it came out 2 different size of same drink with same price. Serving sequence is irregular: pasta came prior to appetizer, then the drinks, other appetizer, followed by other entree, then the other long wait for risotto. Generally staff are friendly and refill water frequently, that’s why even though the overall customer experience is odd, still appreciated.
Tse D — Google review
Overall, I wanted to love this place, but there were a few issues that really impacted my experience. Be warned that your favorite dishes might not be available, not even seasonal offerings that could be sold out quickly. The biggest problem was the incredibly slow service. It took over half an hour just to receive our salads after ordering! We had to repeatedly ask for our drinks. Wine variety wasn’t much as thought, though by the glass quality wasn’t bad. The QR code ordering system needs a serious upgrade. Its outdated design and lack of user-friendliness don’t help our already understaffed team. In fact, it adds to their workload. The overall dining experience was frustrating and fell short of expectations.
小司Charlene — Google review
Nice place, good food and a comfortable atmosphere. The service is friendly and good, however we’ve had to wait for more than an hour to get our food served and after about 45min we’ve been told that some of the ordered dishes were out. Yes, they did try to compensate us with free desert and in between served salads as apology. Therefore I had to give 3 stars for the service. Yes, they’ve handled the situation well, but could manage it better by planning ahead with available portions. As the entire order has to be done online via QR code. So, such things can be planned and no over ordering can occur.

Will definitely revisit this restaurant if I am going Kaohsiung. Food was exceptional with fresh ingredient and amazing flavouring. Unlike normal western restaurant, the dishes seemed to have fusion with Taiwanese style that the taste could not be commonly found. Waitress was friendly and proactively recommend menu to us which was nice. Best to make reservation in advance, not easy to get a seat even during working days.

Luo Cheng Migao is a traditional Tainan specialty that features glutinous rice flour topped with slow-cooked pork, creating a delightfully chewy texture. This dish is highly recommended when visiting Tainan, known for its superb Migao. The small menu ensures fresh and tasty offerings, including subtle yet flavorful soup and clean, tender pork intestines. Visitors praise the deliciousness of the local food and recommend trying the Mi Gao while in the area.
super tasty and rich migao!! the proprietor of the store was also so nice. got the migao and duck egg as well as an herbal soup and it was so good. i def rec this place <3

Sheer perfection, if you like 米糕... the ultimate comfort food in Tainan. Tiny menu so everything’s super fresh. Soup is subtle but very tasty and even the pork intestines in it are clean, light and tender, with a bit of a nutty taste. The pickles are extra sweet but they complement everything very well.

Lemongrass hot pot shops offer a unique dining experience where customers can enjoy tasty and fresh food with great service. The restaurants provide a variety of options, including vegetarian choices, making it suitable for different dietary preferences. Customers can expect to find an English menu and are recommended to bring cash or use Line pay for convenience. The concept of the restaurant involves getting seated and ordering dishes while the service prepares the table.
Good and tasty food, The concept of the restaurant is a little bit different. Go in, get seated, order your dish, the service prepared your table. Seasoning and drink you have to take by yourself. Next time in Kaohsiung again.

The food is tasty and you get a big portion for the price. The drink is for free and you can refill it as much as you want as you can do with the sauce. The staff was also very nice and even explained us the difference between the noodles they have so we could choose the one we like.

I have eaten here many times over the last few years. The food is always tasty and fresh and the staff is polite. There are several vegetarian options, so if you don't eat meat, you have plenty to choose from. There is an English menu. The sauce and lemongrass tea are worth coming back to this restaurant.

Kangle Street Beef Soup is a renowned dish in Taiwan, particularly in Tainan. The city is famous for serving the freshest beef soup on the island, as it uses fresh beef from recently slaughtered cows instead of frozen meat. The ultra-thin slices of raw beef are quickly blanched in scalding-hot clear soup just before being served, creating a unique and flavorful experience. Some compare it to Vietnamese pho but without noodles or bean sprouts.
In reality, I have not been impressed by any of the Michelin Bib Gourmand recommendations in Asia except for this one. It’s unique and you must follow the chef’s recommendation on how to enjoy the beef soup. Take your time to enjoy the soup; if you don’t, you’ll miss out. On first taste, nothing stood out but as she told us, the soup flavour builds with each subsequent sip. By the 3rd sip, you can definitely taste the quality and the subtlety of the soup. The beef were tender but it’s the soup that I loved. We finished every last drop. You can tell the pride she has in her soup. Well deserved of the Michelin recommendation.
Helen G — Google review
I visited Kangle Street Beef Soup in March 2024. The soup was delicious - clear and full of umami goodness! Follow the instructions given by the owner on how to drink the broth, it really helps. The family is deserving of their Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. Highly recommended. For more details, see my video diary: https://youtu.be/NM3whW2U48g

The beef soup spot offers a different flavour to the usual beef soup spots in Tainan. The soup has no artificial additives but they add fruits and vegetables to enrich the flavour. The soup itself tastes like French style beef bouillon. Gave 3 stars because the soup isn’t super special and not impressive with no additives added😅😅 I wanted to add salt to the soup. Also they have a guideline to how to drink the soup. It’s nice that the owner is trying to communicate what they think is the best way to consume their product. But I felt uncomfortable not being able to make the soup to the tasting style that I prefer.
Yiting H — Google review
Great beef soup and beef over rice. Owners were so helpful and sweet. Place was clean. They said to have soup first as it’s light with no MSG but I found it flavourful and didn’t need msg.
Eunice T — Google review
After walking for about 25 minutes to taste the beef soup, I didn't regret it. At first, the soup seemed rather bland, but there were instructions on how to fully enjoy it. The owner lady recommended trying the fried vegetables with liver, which tasted really good if you're a fan of liver. The soup pairs well with a bowl of rice with minced meat and fried vegetables with liver. Delicious!
Justin W — Google review
Hands down and definitely deserving of the Michelin recommendation. The simplicity vs flavour ratio is outstanding although the price is slightly on the higher end compared to other beef noodle establishments. I would not miss having a meal here if I were to visit Tainan once again.
Songren L — Google review
We love the taste of the soup and the vegetable. It taste like a very healthy soup.. The owner (old lady who cook) is so friendly and nice 🙏

The beef soup was actually not as good as the one around the corner on mingzu road (whiskers zhong) but the stir fried beef liver really redeemed for me. Best creamy stir fried for me ever!

Lee & Daughters is a brunch restaurant that offers high-quality food with a unique touch. The staff is friendly and accommodating, although the prices may be higher than expected. The menu includes a complimentary black tea, and the food is fresh and meticulously prepared. While there's no Wi-Fi and limited outlets, the overall dining experience is satisfying. The restaurant can get busy during peak hours but remains manageable.
I enjoyed this place so much, I went back a second time for a meal right before my flight back home. First time, I got some chicken in Sichuan pepper oil on fluffy eggs and bread. Second, I got french toast and bacon. Both were phenomenal. The bread in particular was nicely done. Fluffy, perfect texture, full of flavor. Both dishes came with fresh salads and delicious dressings. The vegetables were varied and generous and clearly thoughtfully chosen, as they were all perfect and fresh. The Sichuan chicken dish was my favorite of the two I had. Really incredible stuff. And to top it off, the two women working there were super friendly. They made me forget that we spoke different languages. Thank you!

The waitress was quite kind and patient with me. It is more expensive than I had expected but the food was fresh and does include a black tea (H/I). I would probably try other brunch restaurants in the area before returning to this one but overall I was satisfied with my meal. No wifi and a few outlets. I think this place can get pretty packed but it wasn’t too bad when I went on a Friday for brunch.

If you are looking for a brunch restaurant with high quality food, this is the place to go. Different from most of the brunch restaurant, Lee's Daughters serve every dish with delicacies. I’ve been coming here for brunch since the sixth grade. Lee & Daughters serve really high quality brunches with reasonable prices. The change their menu every once in a while. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing. The smoked salmon Yorkshire pudding brunch (NTD$280) I had today was delicious. Love the food, had mixed fish fillet soup, fried egg and braised chicken feet to start the day and keep me going. Love the decor as it's similar to my childhood atmosphere. Food are good but portion is smaller for foreign stomach, however, its all meat so it filled me up. I highly recommend as the aunties are nice too.

Hidden gem in Yancheng - my dad grew up eating this. Good alternative to breakfast or brunch. I cannot praise enough about their broiled chicken (白斬雞), braised milkfish (滷虱目魚), and chicken rice (雞肉飯). As you can tell, it’s a good place to come if you need to hit your protein goals. Also recommend side dishes such as fried shrimp roll (蝦捲)and sausage (香腸). If you can only order one thing, go for the broiled chicken, it is soft and chewy after it had been chilled, and lightly but perfectly flavoured with soy sauce.

Located within the Tainan Blueprint Culture & Creative Park, Little Secret is a small and minimalist restaurant that has been gaining popularity among locals. The restaurant offers a variety of well-prepared delicacies, with its blanched beef soup with spinach noodle being a standout dish. The retro stylish decoration adds to the charm of this cute noodle spot, where you can enjoy unique dishes like the Rosie beef noodle served in the shape of a rose.
Cute noodle restaurant with retro stylish decoration. They have a variety of noodle menu and it all tasted pretty nice. The Rosie beef noodle came up with shape of a rose which is perfect for girls to take picture! Then the staff asked if we want to record it when she approached to pour down how soup to boil the beef. The noodle set menu came with tea , garlic rice, and a small veggie. The price is pretty normal for Tainan city, would recommend to ppl who stop by!

As suggested by the name of the restaurant, it is a hidden gem tucked in a secluded corner in the Blueprint Culture & Creative Park. Was impressed by the presentation of the beef noodle and thus probably created an unnecessary expectation which felt underwhelmed after actually eating it. Still a good bowl of noodle but probably not the best dish this place has to offer.

Great little spot inside the Blueprint Culture & Creative Park across from the Mitsukoshi department store. It's a bit farther in the back of the park. The beef entree comes out with the raw beef slices arranged like a flower and then they pour the hot broth into the broth and cooks the meat. You can choose between a couple of different types of noodle. I got the wide noodle and loved it. The broth is tastes really good with the beef and it wasn't too oily. Highly recommend getting the beef pot.

BITE 2 EAT is a restaurant located just a short walk from the Minquan apartment, offering a fusion of East and West cuisines. The menu features Asian-style rice, vegetable, and meat combinations as well as a selection of Western-style sandwiches, burgers, salads, pizzas, and pasta dishes. Prices are reasonable and the food is of high quality. While they do not take reservations and waiting times can be long at times, the tasty food and great service make it worth the wait.
It is a two-storey restaurant suitable for group gatherings. You can actually feel the happy vibe from those tables around you. The price and the portions are proportional. There was a big party on the other side of us but we could still hear them laughing and cheering so it is not a romantic place for first date. The food is yummy and seasoning well.

We ordered pizza, pasta and salad. The salad only have lettuce which like joke! And generally the portions are small. But my biggest problem with this restaurant is it’s poor service. I finished my pizza already yet my girlfriend still didn’t receive her pasta. So went to have dinner together but we ate alone at the end. And the table we sit was not stable.

This place is rather expensive but their pizza dough is absolutely perfect. Pizza sizes are very small (9" I guess) and cost as much as a 11-12" pizza somewhere else. Their side dishes and desserts are nice as well. I enjoyed the bread with tomato mussel sauce a lot. A add-on bundle of starter, dessert and drink can be ordered for about $150 (don't remember the exact price) if you order a main dish. Service is generally quick and friendly, although I ordered my drink to be served before the meal and it just arrived with the dessert.

Xingzhong Night Market, also known as Singjhong Night Market, is a small but bustling night market situated in the Sanduo Shopping District near the MRT station of the same name. The market features a single street lined with around twenty food stalls, offering a variety of affordable and delectable street food options. Operating from around 11 in the morning, it provides a convenient spot for locals, working adults, and students to savor simple yet satisfying dishes like soup.
This is a small night market with great food options. If you are in the vicinity , you should definitely visit it.

Dokrik69 V — Google review
Xingzhong is smaller, about half the size of the other night markets in the area, namely Jhongsiao to the north and Guanghua to the east. It runs one avenue from north to south. This market consists of the usual foods one would find, noodles, soups, stews, rices, etc. if one were in the area, I would suggest going in a loop around all three and taking a bathroom break, pitstop at a small park, such as Minquan Park, along the southern leg. I did not find anything unique here and the foods are oriented to local tastes and customer base.

A short street of food. Selection is good and you got to be aware of traffic while walking, lots of scooters stopping and zipping by, typical in the streets of Taiwan and it is safe as they are aware of pedestrians. The usual fares in Taiwan night market. However, this place seems to be open even in the morning, with more stalls opening in the evening. Really near SOGO, Sanduo MRT station. Worth a visit if you are nearby.

A small night Market with very little variety of food. Traffic flow was quite high here where a lot of scooter may come in all directions to buy food from the stalls here as well as its situated on the streets. So do be careful and keep a look out for traffic. Only managed to try the sausage wrap stall located near the entrance. Cost me NT$50 but it was nice and flavorful with lots of garlic cloves and pickle ginger slices. If u are looking to feed the whole family, need not waste time here, as its more of a breeze walking session place.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful culinary experience in Kaohsiung, look no further than Nuzi Jiao Zi. This charming eatery specializes in pan-seared gyoza that boasts an irresistibly crispy exterior and a juicy filling that bursts with flavor. Unlike many ordinary dumplings, the meat inside is succulent and never dry, making each bite a true delight.

Very nice dumpling and they serve different flavours dumpling. We ordered one cheese dumpling and one mix (original & basil mix). Original flavour is still the best, the vegetable used was very sweet, blend very well with the pork. Basil favour comes with very strong basil taste, and the dumpling comes with very beautiful green color. Lastly, the cheese dumpling is very juicy inside, for those cheese lover this is a must try. No regret purposely come here for their dumpling, please render your support for small shop like this., they serve with passion thus food is good.

Pan seared gyoza, very crispy on the outside and super juicy in the side filling. Meat in the filling isn’t dry like other ordinary gyoza/dumplings. We had the original flavour and tasted just as awesome. The juicy filling had me spill twice from biting the gyoza lol. Small seats, feels cozy but not on a summer day. Black tea is okay but a bit too sweet, could only taste the sugar but tea itself. Five stars overall for the service and gyoza :)

While famous for their crispy lace skirt pan-fried dumplings, I liked their noodle soup more ~ for 100nt you can get the udon kimchi noodles, being a very big hot bowl with clams, kimchi, shrimp, egg, meatballs and veggies ~ so satisfying to slurp up 😋 The dumplings are good too, and 80-100 or so for a plate ! Minimum order for dining in (which is technically outside as it's stalls on the curbside) is one dish per person, so keep in mind if you're just trying to share one plate with a friend 😛

Mandarin restaurant
Hung Chi Rice Shop is a modern and inviting eatery that has gained popularity for its signature dish, Minced Pork Rice. This Taiwanese favorite attracts truck drivers and construction workers from all over the country. The restaurant's bright and spacious interior is adorned with charming pig illustrations, creating a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy traditional Taiwanese snacks like braised pork rice, pork trotter rice, fish ball soup, and various side dishes at affordable prices.
Everything is great. Well deserved to be selected by Michelin guide. Braised pork melt in your mouth. Miso tofu soup was smooth and refreshing. Potato leaves were young and soft. Love it. Clean. Fast service. Polite staff. Reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Rode the subway 6 stops all the way here and walked like 400m to have this. Braised pork tendon and pork belly rice with added sunny side up egg is a good combi. Ordered also pork trotter but the meat is a little dry and portion extremely small! Clam soup was good and side dish of egg plant too not bad. Very new and clean place plus comfortable as its air conditioned. Prices are decent too. But to be fair, I've eaten recently non Michelin rated similar items and taste better and cheaper.
Leina M — Google review
Great spot to eat some Michelin recognised pork rice. Big clean shop with lots of seating, we didn’t have to wait to be seated. You can also customise your order for more or less pork or add extra gravy
Jade J — Google review
Excellent experience. Extremely busy but maybe waited 10 minutes for a large group. Food was excellent and the honey lemonade was also delicious!
JJ U — Google review
They are providing a free small dish with a 5 star google review HOWEVER, I did not participate that and below is my honest review of it. Went at around 1145am and there wasn't a crowd at all. Went in straight and the food is served pretty fast. Ordered the braised pork rice and add on a plate of pig trotters as well. Highly recommend people that can take spicy to eat it together with their chilli. It balanced the saltiness of the gravy and goes really well with it. The place can get crowded very fast so I expect to have a queue during peak hour
Koh W — Google review
The standard braised pork with rice was very very delicious! Also the eggplant was very good (it is a cold appetizer). Not sure if they have free water/tea (we didn't find it).
Carolina V — Google review
came here for the rou zha fan and it was so delicious! it is a must to add on an egg! we ordered small bowls but realised we shouldve ordered medium or large instead. there was a queue and waiting line, but it moved fairly quickly! would highly recommend as it is somewhat near the massive park where it is nice to walk around
Ki M — Google review
Minced pork rice here was full of flavor and really tasty! I ordered a large bowl with extra mince pork, tofu, and egg along with a pork rib soup. Didn’t expect the rice to be so filling, but worth it! The soup was light and enjoyable as well. If you plan on eating more than just rice, make sure to get a small size. Quick note, the rice comes quick, but veggies and soups come out in batches, so you may have to wait a while to get the remaining part of your order.

During my recent visit to Kaohsiung, I had the pleasure of dining at Tan Zuo Ma Li's Shidai Branch, a restaurant that truly captures the essence of Taiwanese hospitality. From the moment I stepped in, it was clear that they prioritize customer satisfaction by tailoring their grilling options to meet individual preferences. The menu boasts an impressive selection of fresh seafood and high-quality meats; I highly recommend trying Beef Set B, which is a favorite among regulars.
The dining environment and space are excellent! The servers are also great, making it a wonderful place for a date. They accept multiple payment methods, and after eating, you can go shopping at Dream Mall.

I think the hype on this place is the service. Service was really good, on par with haidilao. There were huge crowd during dinner time, so try to come earlier! Managed to get in without any prior reservation but can clearly see the place is packed to the brim at 6:30pm.

This is a high class dinner place. It's expensive and the wait is long even with reservations!

I come here many times. It’s a good place for friend gatherings and family reunions. Classic and elegant design makes the atmosphere exceptionally. Must eat!
Micky L — Google review
Tan Zuo Ma Li is one of the most famous and popular Japanese style grill restaurants in southern Taiwan, counterpart of Umai in the middle of Taiwan. It’s really difficult to get a reservation, especially for holidays, so make sure to plan in advance. The decor is wide-spaced, luxurious and classy. The sides which came with set were delicate and delicious; The quality of meat was high and saved in fresh with reasonable price. However, we were little disappointed with their “help and grill yourselves“ service. It was a fun experience but we felt uncomfortable that we wasted the food due to our reluctance. Compared to our dining experience with similar price range in Umai, there was more support or explanation from the staff.
Hsin W — Google review
Fancy yakiniku in a fancy restaurant. We tried so many new food like the seared cheese marshmallow matcha latte, beef tongue sushi, and cheese sweet potato. And my God they were so good. Can't say you come to kaoshiung without eating at this place.

My first time visiting, went there to celebrate both me and my friends birthday. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really really nice, the architecture, vibe.. just everything!! The food was amazing, we ordered a set for two deal, the quality of each dish was fantastic. I really liked the creativity thoughts for the dessert choices and I ended up choosing cloud/sky themed panna cotta/Jelly.😗

Nestled in Cianjhen District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the Kaisyuan Night Market is a sprawling and lively night market spanning 46,000 square meters. Boasting over 1,000 vendors and stalls offering delectable Taiwanese street food as well as an array of clothing and homewares, it provides a vibrant atmosphere for visitors to immerse themselves in.
One of the best Night markets in Kaohsiung and it’s not very crowded. Lots of great food to choose from and many activities for both adults and kids. Lots of cheap clothes shoes, purses and bags. I strongly recommend you try their laksa and fried ice cream along other things.

Strongly recommended !!!! Flea market just beside the night market. Suggest visit the flea market around 3pm and follow up by dinner in the night market. Do take note that the flea market operate on Sat and Sun only. For Sun, the flea market stalls may start their business as early as 8am. For dinner, do remember to visit the friendly lady boss and Ama managing drink and foods stalls. Their stalls are side by side.
ONG H — Google review
Very disappointed in this night market. Not many vendors selling. Very small amount of food vendors and there is a small kids section for the kids to play games. Other than that it's a ghost town. We came here on a Friday night with zero crowds. We asked one of the vendors what happened and they said others went somewhere else. Hopefully it will get back to normal.

Many other trades besides food. Food - try the Mochi, seasoned fruit with Licorice & herbal teas. There are games, fashion, etc. Good mix of varieties. Worth to go.

Do visit the night market later in the night to be able get the full experience as most stalls only open up by 7pm. Was there at 6pm and alot of stores were still close. But one thing to commend is that the prices of items at this night market is relatively cheaper compared to the others

Jhongsiao Night Market, also known as Zhongxiao Night Market, is a smaller and less crowded night market located in the Lingya district of Kaohsiung. Unlike its more touristy counterparts, this market offers a local experience with simple eateries serving Taiwanese specialties like dumplings and grilled meats. It's a great place to immerse yourself in city life and people-watch while enjoying tasty treats.
Small local night market at the streetside. They have great 鹹酥雞 and grilled corn 👍🏽 worth a stop when passing by!
David A — Google review
Vendors typically have front facing stall with seats inside. Long narrow street. Cars and motor bikes transit the street.
Philip L — Google review
This is a pretty big night market, I would say twice the size of Xingzhong just two blocks away to the southwest and about the same size as Guanghua to the southeast. This market runs around two avenues from north to south and consists of the usual foods one would find, noodles, soups, stews, rices, etc. if one were in the area, I would suggest going in a loop around all three and taking a bathroom break, pitstop at a small park, such as Minquan Park, along the southern leg. I did not find anything unique here and the foods are oriented to local tastes and customer base.

Another very traditional and local night market in Kaohsiung that's not capitalised by tourism, you can find great late night eats all around here in all styles. If you have no idea what you're doing, fire up your browser and see some blogs first to find what's good. Also, either walk or ride a bike there, parking a car is impossible to do here.

A different type of night market. Not a designated pedestrian one. The night market is spread on either side of the street with traffic still going so I would be careful with kids. A bunch of food vendors and some one off stores selling clothes, cell phone cases, etc.

Bo Home is a popular informal restaurant known for its traditional Taiwanese fare, including minced pork rice and milkfish soup. The Michelin-rated establishment offers clean, air-conditioned dining with cafeteria-style seating. Despite the simple setup, the food is flavorful and reasonably priced. Diners recommend visiting early to avoid items running out, as the restaurant tends to get busy on weekends. The braised pork rice is a standout dish, featuring tender meat and rich flavors.
Probably the best 肉燥飯(滷肉飯)place in Kaohsiung! Besides the option of 滷肉, you can get the thigh/leg meat instead and add the 滷肉 over it to get the best of both. However, their stir fry beef with scallion was such a surprise. It's probably the best beef stir fry I've had in a long while. The beef slices were super tender, and with right chewiness, it practically melts in your mouth. Balanced nicely with a tinge of spiciness and garlic fragrance, it was the highlight of the experience.

Food takes a bit longer, please be patient it’s worth the wait!! Prices are very affordable. If i can give 1 feedback, your ordering app, even though i already picked “English”, when it comes to the next step option, such as more gravy, less gravy, it’s all still in Mandarin. So we took a while to order. Thank you so much!! We will definitely come back!!
Mocha M — Google review
We came here on a Sunday night and only had to wait 5 minutes for a table around 6:40pm. We thought it would be longer because we saw many people waiting outside but it turns out they were just there for take away. Ordering is done through a QR code and it’s in Chinese. They are known for their braised pork rice but unfortunately our order for it didn’t go through and we were already full with the items that did go through. We had the soy sauce clams which were really salty, the eggplant, potato leaf, and cucumber salad which had so much raw garlic it would kill a vampire and the sea bass soup. Besides the saltiness and the excessive raw garlic we enjoyed our meal. Service was relatively fast.

We enjoyed the dinner here. Loved the braised pork rice & the salted egg bittergourd. Iiked the squid too. Miso is good. Menu is written in both Chinese and English which is useful for tourist. Also some items has pictures to refer too, which is good. Would return again for sure.

Successfully upgraded traditional family food shop. Clean, air conditioned dining with no loss in flavor of the food offerings. Cafeteria type seating, common seating in long tables. Very reasonably priced 肉燥飯(braised pork rice) at only $37/bowl, the most popular staple in many Taiwanese meals. Hot, tasty, quick and filling. Many items to choose from. See attached menu below. Don’t expect the moon
Marie C — Google review
Orders a takeaway. Fast and easy ordering. Above average 肉燥飯, but a tad too sweet for my liking. Miso soup very good though, the best I had so far at any similar joints.
Poh L — Google review
The braised pork is so tender you can cut through it easily with your chopsticks. The sauce they use to braise is a bit saltier than I would like but overall the taste is good. The ordering system is with QR code and there are pictures with everything so it is friendly. Pay on their system or go back to the front counter to pay in cash.
Yu-Ting — Google review
Taiwanese braised pork rice never disappoint, the meat is so tender and the fat literally melt in your month. We prefer the 肉库饭 rather than肉操饭as it has more meat. The grouper fish soup is rather average.

Despite its small size, this night market stands out for its unique location near KW2 and within the Pier 2 Art scene.
Great street food option, not at Pier 2 but around 300m from the Pier 2 - Penglai LRT station. Friendly stall holders and a variety of food to choose from. Definitely try out Big Fried Squid for a delicious Squid with onions and scallions and spiced up to your taste. The Sausage in the Rice sausage is also excellent. Not too cramped and filled with helpful locals. Highly recommended.

The Yanchengpu (Pier-2) Night Market offers a decent experience for those who are looking to immerse themselves in the local Taiwanese night market culture. With an array of street food stalls and other vendors, the market presents an opportunity to sample a variety of delicacies and find unique trinkets. However, it's worth noting that the market only opens on Saturday nights, which can be a limitation for travelers with a tight schedule or those who are not staying over the weekend. The market's operating hours could benefit from more flexibility to accommodate a wider range of visitors. Overall, Yanchengpu (Pier-2) Night Market is a decent spot to check out if your itinerary aligns with its operating hours, but it might not be a must-visit destination if your time in Kaohsiung is limited

HIGH CP value of local snack-QQ egg. $1 per ball. You can’t find this kind of value with price around whole Taiwan island. Of course, you need to queue for it due to many people want for it. Dessert restaurant
Yancheng Wang's Handmade Tofu Pudding in Taiwan has left a lasting impression on many visitors. Unlike typical douhua, their tofu pudding is not bland and is served with various options, making it a top contender for favorite food. The handmade beancurd pudding has a smooth texture and comes with different add-ons that enhance its flavors.
It has been several months since my visit to Taiwan but I still think about the douhua (tofu pudding) from this place everyday. Back in my country, I never like douhua since it's mostly served with hot ginger soup and the pudding tastes bland. Yancheng Wang's Handmade Tofu Pudding broke my negative view of douhua and I can easily nominate their douhua as my favorite food in the world. It is very comforting to my soul, very delectable to my palate, and it poses no harm to my bank account. The douhua itself is great, and there are several types of soup you can choose to accompany your douhua. Initially, I picked douhua with soy milk (doujiang) and I love it very much I decided to get another helping with kumquat juice, which is very refreshing. The next day, just before I left Taiwan, I chose this place to have my last meal in Taiwan, they really left a great impression on me. One day, I will make sure to visit Taiwan again and reunite with this ethereal dessert.
Syauqi S — Google review
A nice street stall to try out douhua (tofu pudding) with different toppings. I personally enjoyed the topping of kumquat, but not the one of soggy peanuts, but that is, of course, everyone's personal preference.
Dita K — Google review
We loved this place. This is exactly the type of store we look out for when we travel. This is what people call a ‘Traditional Taiwanese Sweet Doufu (Tofu) Pudding’ store. Traditional I gather in the way they make the dessert and what extras they add with it rather than the way they made their tofu which is a little different than in other place (either Taiwan or China/Hong Kong). For those to way this is different from Cantonese doufu; it really isn’t. All the usual suspects that some people would call “Cantonese style” i.e. in sweet ginger soup, is here. What is different, and why this has 5-stars, is that this store owns the soy bean farm. This is seemly a farm-direct-to-store family run outfit. They also say they specifically ground their soy beans slightly coarser than most which gives their tofu pudding added texture and I really like it. I am not usually a fan of tofu pudding in Hong Kong, most places lack flavour, texture or anything other than the sweetness of the sugar water. This tofu had a texture that was creamy and it tasted of beans, added with the soup and it’s an instant hit for me. Eating by the roadside was also a bonus. This is possibly as authentic as you can get meaning unlike in developed places like Hong Kong, London or similar, you dining experience is not engineered. You get what you see here and the tofu is good. Worth a specific visit? For me, that’s a yes.
Ray H — Google review
Tauhua itself was stunning. The brown sugar syrup wasn't too sweet. Kumquat was also not too sweet but refreshing. The menu was only on the wall behind the staff, so for those of us who do not speak Mandarin, it was a bit difficult to order and communicate with the staff who was not rude but not so much kind.
Csp — Google review

Vegetarian restaurant
Caizong Li is a Taiwanese shop that offers traditional vegetarian snacks. Despite its appearance as a shop, it provides tables for eat-in customers. The menu features two items, including the signature Vegetarian Glutinous Rice Dumpling, known as zongzi. This fist-sized pyramid-shaped dumpling contains peanuts and has a subtle leafy scent. Despite its appearance with thick sauce, it's not overly sweet and can be enjoyed with the complimentary unsweetened tea.
I've had every possible traditional Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, Nonya, alkaline water rice dumpling. But never ever vegetarian rice dumpling. I have an absolute disdain for meatless dining, but I was taken aback by how much I've actually enjoyed this peanut rice dumpling. It was extremely peanut perfumed. Peanut allergic persons, avoid breathing or walking by the store like the plague.

Vegetarian dumplings had a subtle scent of leaves and there were some peanuts inside. The taste wasn't sweet even with thick sauce. I wondered if I should avoid sauce because of how it looks but realized I didn't need to avoid it after one bite. I was impressed that the free tea had no added sugar which was a bonus👍 Staffs were kind and friendly. I found a sticker of LINE Pay when I left there. I should have found it when entering.

Perfect quick vegetarian lunch! Main focus is peanut zongzi, sticky rice dumplings with peanuts, with different sauces available for topping. They were very friendly, food was quick and delicious and filling and very inexpensive (~$3 USD for two zongzi and a very good miso soup), place is clean and brightly lit. I just stumbled upon it, but will definitely go back. Highly recommended and apparently the Michelin guide agrees with me!

The Three Generations Spring Roll is a popular snack in Kaohsiung, known for its delicious and flavorful taste. Despite the long queues during lunchtime, the wait is worth it as the spring rolls are described as really good and satisfying. The dish is praised for its sweet filling and overall value for money. Located near Formosa Station, this spot offers a variety of tasty options including braised pork rice and meat dumplings at affordable prices.
The spring roll was good! Must try for tourist like me. It’s my first time trying it

This popiah is only 55 NT and delicious! It has veggies, meat, peanuts and wrapped in a roll. The bowl cake was very unique: a bowl with savory rice cake and a gravy all for 35 NT: yummy! Highly recommend and the line goes fast.

Good value. Delicious food at low prices. Meat dumpling TWD45 and spring roll TWD50 and Soup TWD40

This place is next to my stay in Kaosiung. We came very early. They just started. The braised pork rice is amazing and quite a large dish. the plabpce is AT the exit1 of Formosa station
Nirin K — Google review
Springrow taste a bit sweet for me, and have no idea why. But it's still worth to go as you can have any others food such as pork rice.
Mabel M — Google review
We ordered the 3 generations spring roll, rice bowl cake, meat dumpling and the 四神湯。 Spring roll: Huge portion filled with eggs, bean sprouts, white cabbage and some Chinese sausages. Rice bowl cake: Mild on the first mouth; savory taste kicks in at the bottom where all the fillings are. Yummy if hungry. Soup: Mild and refreshing. Small instestines do not have the usual strong smell. Seems well cleaned. Verdict: Passable. Can try if u have stomach space to spare

There's a line to get the 'spring roll' during lunch time but it moves by fast. It's really good and flavorful and has something sweet in it but I can't tell what. Really good snack!
Trina D — Google review
45 for a springroll feels like a ripoff. In Singapore we have it with black sweet sauce which I suppose I am more used to. Here they put a heap of icing sugar which I don't quite like. Its good, just not worth it. Seems to always have a queue and moved rather slowly too Edit: after seeing other springroll places that charge an average of 45-50 NT, I believe my above comment is wrong as I see that it is market standard to charge at that price. Either way, while it is good, I personally still prefer how its made with black sweet sauce instead back in Singapore.

Aahar Indian Food is a delightful culinary gem owned by a passionate Indian family, offering an authentic taste of India right in Taiwan. Open for lunch and dinner, it's best to arrive early as they close at 7:30 PM. Chef Rana's commitment to fresh, made-to-order dishes shines through in every bite. Diners rave about the flavorful Pani puri, naan, and kadai chicken—each dish crafted with care to ensure authenticity.
Delicious. 300-350 for most curries. But very well made. Highly recommended. See attached menu pics for full pricing. Very very friendly staff, speaks very good English. Strongly recommended. Palak Paneer and Mutton Curry were excellent. There also seems to be a 130+- NT lunch menu.

Butter chicken was surprisingly nice but cheese naan didnt have enough cheese in it. I’d come back again for more.
Lokoma — Google review
I would give chef Rana 10 stars if I can for the delicious food and his humble customer service. Never thought I would get authentic Indian food in Taiwan. We requested for mild food because my wife can’t handle spicy food. The taste was spot on and yummy. Everything is made to order hence it is super fresh. I wish Ann and Rana lot of successful in their culinary journey. Best wishes!

As an Indian, I can say it was really good food. Had a good Pani puri (although had to ask them to make it a bit more spicy for me) then naan and kadai chicken . Good authentic food. The masala chai(tea) was a bit of a let down though didn't enjoy it as much as the food. Overall I'd say pretty good 👍

Everything was very tasty. The people who work there are very friendly 😍

Step into the nostalgic charm of Anping Old Street and discover Da You Xing Yi Noodles, a humble eatery serving up traditional flavors that locals and visitors alike adore. This unassuming spot offers dry-tossed noodles and an array of braised meats that capture the essence of bygone eras. Nestled in the alleys of Anping, this restaurant is a hidden gem where you can savor renowned noodles and boiled dumplings.
Had some very tasty noodles with ground pork, cabby and boiled egg. Owners were welcoming and service was fast.

(Translated by Google) A restaurant located in the alleys of Anping where you can enjoy the famous noodles and boiled dumplings. Surprisingly, there aren't many shops open at night around here. Thank you for taking care of me when I went to the Anping Lantern Festival. There are many honey bean shops around. Tainan specialties such as yimen, luji, boiled dumplings, etc. The atmosphere is open and feels like a Taiwanese restaurant. You pick up the menu yourself, write your order, and hand it to the chef. It's a small shop, so I don't think it's necessary to write down the desk number. You can choose noodles with or without soup. Nice firmness. The soup dumplings have a gentle taste with just the right amount of vegetables and meat. Payment is cash only (Original)

(Translated by Google) Hidden away in Anping Old Street, I saw that nearby shops would visit me from time to time, so I came in to give it a try. The shape of the noodles is different from the pasta in my impression, and the sauce used also has its own style. The Luwei is placed on the table nearby. After selecting the items you like, the boss will heat the dishes and serve them on the table. You can add your own dipping sauces and condiments.
