Karnagio / Pita tou Riga is a popular Greek tavern located near the picturesque lake of Voulismeni in the heart of Agios Nikolaos. Visited on a national holiday and despite the rush, this place had a queue while nearby restaurants were nearly empty, clearly a local gem. We waited just 10 minutes, and the owner personally managed the line with fairness and care. No skipping, no confusion, just respectful organization.
Once seated, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Even with the crowd, they never rushed us. The menu was full of delicious local dishes with plenty of variety. Portions were huge for us, but everything was fresh and flavorful.
What stood out most was the atmosphere—warm, relaxed, and clearly loved by locals. We left full, happy, and already planning to return.
Highly recommended. If you see a queue, don’t worry—it’s absolutely worth it!

Authentic food, large portions, reasonable prices and friendly quick service. We enjoyed a lovely lunch here. The menu is large and if we had time I would have loved to go again to try more items. The squid & zucchini had an amazing black garlic sauce - so delicious! The fried cheese with honey was hot, crispy and gooey. Highly recommended!
This restaurant deserves the hype. The food is excellent, the service is very fast, even when the restaurant is packed.
However, what I truly disliked was the constant cigarette smoke that I sensed during the whole dinner. Being a terrace, smoking is allowed, but since the tables are so close one to another, it feels like your neighbor is blowing the smoke straight to your nose. This really made the experience not so enjoyable.
The most memorable dinner! The service and hospitality of the staff was unlike anywhere I have ever been. They were so welcoming and so kind. The service was lovely, the portions of food were generous and the prices were affordable. Reserve Karnagio for an unforgettable meal in Crete.

AMAZING!!! We had such an amazing meal, it was packed but staff were attentive, chatty and caring. The food and the people were incredible. Mikaelis was a fantastic server!! Everyone was super friendly and it has made for a very memorable evening. Definitely one to go to if you’re in Agios Nikolaos.
We came to Karnagio after seeing many great recommendations, and it was definitely worth the visit.
We waited in line for about 30 minutes, but once we were seated, the service was excellent and the food was delicious.
It’s a bit loud and crowded, so not exactly a romantic spot - but we still really enjoyed the experience.
The portions are generous and satisfying!
We had the fried artichoke, which was a bit too salty for our taste, but everything else was just fantastic.
Absolutely amazing.
Very well priced plates with complex and rich flavours. After trying about 10 dishes, everything was absolutely delicious : fried calamaries, Moussaka croquettes, grilled octopus, amazingly tender veal stew, flavourful apaki, etc. Without mentioning the free appetizers and delicious desserts. It would be a mistake not to try this restaurant.
I wish the owners would open a restaurant like this in Montreal - I would go all the time!
Furthermore, the staff was great with kids and made us feel welcomed and appreciated. The restaurant is busy, but everything is perfectly orchestrated to be efficient and service is spot on.
My boyfriend has travelled in over 50 countries in his life, eating in many different kinds of restaurants along the way, and this is now his favorite restaurant!

The meal was excellent, I had the sea bass. And their baklava was amazing!
We were 2 days in Agios Nikolaos, and came to this restaurant twice. It’s that good. Once for lunch, once for dinner, with the added pleasure of the Piano Man, who is really good. Food is delicious, service swift & friendly, wine choice is more than fine. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures on day one, and on day 2 only after starting eating. You want to start directly I guess. By the way, the view on the lake is also very nice.
Only had an hour from our Tui excursion to look around the town. Walked into the lake from the port area passed all the cafes and bars at waterside level and looked up to to the balcony of the Piano restaurant and thought that’s the place for a afternoon coffee and cake stop and we were not disappointed. The view was to die for, looked after by 2 very attentive waitresses and the cake and coffee was lovely. Finished of with a beer that was accompanied with peanuts. So wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you.

We booked a table at what appeared to be the nicest restaurant in town, attracted by its lovely view of the lake and promise of live piano music, the perfect setting, we thought, for our Silver Wedding Anniversary.
Unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to expectations. On arrival, we were seated next to a three-year-old’s birthday party, not quite the ambience we had hoped for on such a special evening. Although the children were well behaved, it was far from the intimate, relaxed atmosphere we had imagined.
We decided to keep things simple, opting for lighter mains and skipping starters, intending to cut the evening short. Despite this, the service felt hurried, and we couldn’t tell whether it was attentiveness or a push to turn tables.
To the restaurant’s credit, the food itself was superb, beautifully presented and full of flavour. However, the rushed pace and misplaced seating left us disappointed overall. What should have been a memorable celebration ended up feeling like an evening we were eager to finish rather than savour.
Best evening of our trip to Crete. Very attentive service and delicious meals and drinks with a scenic view.
Of course, you per also for the view, but the service was also really outstanding!

Me and my boyfriend came here and we were amazed. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. There was (of course) live music from the piano and I loved it. Let's not forget the view, you can look outside the whole time you are eating and you would not get bored. The food was perfect and we enjoyed every bite of it. The way the bill came in a piano box made the whole experience a 10/10!!!!
I would recommend making a reservation if you come here.

The staff at Piato were friendly and the service was quick. Overall, the atmosphere was nice. Unfortunately, the food was extremely poor.
I ordered a medium steak, but it arrived rare to medium-rare. It had already been sliced and was covered in sauce, so I didn’t ask for it to be recooked. Our table was needed back soon, so we ate quickly and left.
I did speak to a waiter about the issue. He said he would pass on the feedback to the chef, but nothing else was done. For a restaurant that presents itself as high-end, this was very disappointing.
Had an amazing dinner at Piato last night with two good friends and it was my birthday (secretly!), and even though I hadn’t told anyone, the staff surprised me with dessert, a candle, music, and all came out singing Happy Birthday! Totally unexpected and so heartwarming. 🥹🎉
The food? Absolutely incredible!!! every dish was a hit, and the waiters knew exactly what they were serving…. Overall beautiful atmosphere, great selection of music, perfect weather, 10/10 vibes.
Only note: the coffee… guys, let’s talk 😜that Nespresso was more like a Greek coffee in disguise😂🥸😋 next time, give it a little kick! 🤭

Stunning atmosphere on the balcony. Creative delicious food and good service. I wish I’d been with more people to try more dishes ! I had the beet salad and bread appetizer.
Me + my best friend ate at Piato on our last night dinner (suggested by a local) and it was such a disappointment. The restaurant has nice decor and seemingly nice staff but the food was absolutely atrocious.
The two starters had hardly any flavour and just so random, we barley ate them. The fish main course was average. When we tried to give constructive feedback, our server was blatantly not interested. The salad and chips I had for lunch at Cafe Zygos by the lake earlier in the day was ten times better !
Would not recommend unless you enjoy wasting money on 'food'.
Piato in Agios Nikolaos is a great place to dine. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, and the service is warm and attentive. A highlight of the evening was being shown their hidden underground wine cellar, which added a unique touch to the visit.
What a fantastic restaurant. I found the suggestion on Reddit where a chef said it was his favorite local restaurant. Incredible food, a warm & friendly staff, and the view over the harbor from the balcony is very pretty (though the garden area looked lovely too!). We shared chickpea croquettes as a starter, hubby had grilled lamb and I had the seafood spaghetti (amazing!!) and we finished with rizogalo (rice pudding) which he loved and I had Avery light & fruity ekmek. All so, SO good. Just go here, you too will thank the good people of Reddit for the recommendation!!

When I came to Greece, one of my primary goals was to eat a fish. I really, really wanted to munch down a fish. While here, I fulfilled that dream. I ordered the Sea Bream. It was the first time I was served an entire fish, head, eyes, and all, so I was a little bit uneasy, but once I surmounted the courage to dig in---the fish was DELICIOUS. It may have genuinely been the best cooked fish I've ever enjoyed.
It's right on the shore, so the views are gorgeous. I felt really fortunate when I was led to a quiet table overlooking the water.
Service was friendly. I feel like I personally wasn't checked on often, but I was a solo diner, and I find that's a standard experience most restaurants I go, so I won't hold it against the staff. They were really friendly with larger parties, the table next to me were from Poland and they were immediately offered a menu in Polish (which, apparently, served Leprechaun due to an incorrect translation! I'm mentioning it because it was endearing and the server shared a good laugh about it).
A poor, sweet, stray, starving cat joined my table and sometimes tried to climb up onto it to steal my food. This may bother some people but I love cats and I was delighted to have a "date." I primarily just felt bad for how hungry the poor fellows were.

We had the trilogy of spreads and after some grilled fish. The kids had the stuffed burger. All freshly made with awesome bread and fries.

It was OK. I felt it was a bit of a “fad” trendy place to go to. Very busy and gets a lot of footfall.
We were told it was one of the best in Ag Nik and honestly we were disappointed. Food was average and didn’t seem to have as much effort as some of the more traditional tavernas, very modern inside. Staff were well presented but again lacked the personality or welcoming nature of other traditional Greek restaurants locally.
The lamb tortillas were quite poor / really poorly presented visually, just folded over small wraps with shredded lamb, and nothing inside, also cold.
Fried cheese balls were nice but very cheesy, you get them everywhere here.
Chicken salad was again nice enough but like something you could get in any restaurant.
Cretan garlic cheese bread was average. Nothing was more than lukewarm.
Other people were offered the loukomades as a complimentary dessert and we weren’t as a couple.
We then ordered the baklava and it was probably the best thing about the meal, lovely.
The food at Mastrali was absolutely amazing! Every dish was bursting with flavor, the portions were incredibly generous, and the overall quality was outstanding. Truly one of the best meals I've had in a long time.
The only downside was the service at the beginning — it was a bit chaotic. We weren’t really shown to a table properly, and it took some time before things settled. It felt a bit disorganized at first.
That said, the atmosphere was lovely and once we were seated, everything else was just fantastic. I’d definitely go back for the food alone — it’s well worth it!

Maistrali offers fresh, flavourful food with generous portions, that standout. The staff are friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed, homely atmosphere. Add to that the beautiful sea views, and you’ve got the perfect setting for a leisurely meal. Overall a great choice!
By far the best I have eaten in Crete. The menu is just a little bit different from other traditional restaurant. But everything is full flavored and well prepared. The fact that the restaurants house style is visible in little things like the napkins and plates really tops it off.
Oh and by the way… tables are practically on the beach which completes the holiday feeling.

Maïstrali, located in Agios Nikolaos, was one of the most pleasant surprises of our trip. It’s a restaurant that honors traditional Cretan cuisine, but with a modern, gourmet twist — nothing pretentious, just high-quality food with great respect for local ingredients.
We tried the skioufihta pasta with slow-cooked beef ragout — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The pork steak (“stamna” style) was juicy and well-grilled, while the beetroot salad was refreshing and creatively prepared. We also loved the traditional little pies served with tzatziki — a simple yet delicious highlight to start or end the meal.
The service was kind and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable considering the quality and care that goes into each dish.
To top it all off, they treat you to complimentary loukoumades drizzled with chocolate — a sweet and generous gesture that perfectly rounds off the experience.
If you find yourself in Agios Nikolaos and are looking for an authentic yet refined culinary experience, Maïstrali is definitely worth a visit.

This beautiful restaurant with stunning views truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and attentive, and the food was absolutely incredible—fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. We’ve eaten at quite a few restaurants during our stay this past week, and this one stands out as one of the best in St. Nikolas by far. My husband enjoyed it so much, he wanted to book again for tomorrow to try more of the menu. A must-visit if you’re in the area. I think my pictures will say it all. Thank you.

Beautiful restaurant. The terrace is very pleasant and shaded, perfect for having a drink or a meal. You can reserve a table in advance. We were pleasantly surprised by the breathtaking view from our table. The menu is simple and translated into several languages. The dishes are delicious and live up to the view. The staff is very friendly and warm. There's a nice little anecdote about the wheelbarrow in the restrooms
Great restaurant! Loved everything we tried there. A bit more expensive than other ones, but absolutely worth it. The service was excellent and the staff very polite and friendly. If you book a table you can have a great view of the "lake".
Lovely restaurant with the best Greek salad we had on the island. Great staff who were happy to pair wines based on what we picked, we had a great time and left full! Only downside is it is a little pricier than other restaurants in the area- but you’re paying for the amazing view and it’s not massively different to other restaurants +/- €10. I have only one other restaurant in my list with 5 stars, but this restaurant deserved each one of them:
Location: just over the lake Voulismeni, during evening you can enjoy one of the best views and the atmosphere is particularly pleasant to share a meal with a special person
Food: I am Italian, still the Shrimp pasta was very well done, but the very highlight of the night was the Crispy breaded black pig loin, AMAZING! I suggest you to try yourself!
Service: the staff is great, attentive to every detail and they really made us feel special (we are in our honeymoon) treating us with a dessert offered by them and giving us a special spot to sit.
To sum up, if you’re in Angios Nikolaos I warmly recommend to not miss to eat in this place!
If I can I would give a 10 stars, this restaurant is unbelievable good, perfect food, desserts. You also receive a complimentary drink made of almonds and chocolate mousse, it’s so delicious. ⭐️😍⭐️

Pelagos Fish Tavern is a renowned dining spot in Agios Nikolaos, known for its enchanting courtyard garden and elegant neoclassical mansion setting. It's considered one of the best fish taverns in the area, offering simply grilled fresh catches from the nearby harbor, accompanied by local vegetables and Cretan wines. The restaurant also serves winning salads with unique combinations and well-presented pasta dishes.
The beautiful place Macrame lamps, which make you feel at home, properly lit, but at the same time make you feel cozy and surrounded by trees and a fountain constantly sounding. Super clean and excellent prices. The delicious food flavors that I had not tried until now on our trip in Greece, after 10 days, Spicy, but at the same time very fresh and delicious. We ordered fried rice with prawns and they were delicious 10 out of 10, the delicious wine and the delicious Rocket salad, I would definitely return. To top it off, the waiters are super friendly and careful with the way they serve you.

The food rating here is just because Agios Nikolaos is foodie heaven and there are places that do very (very) marginally better food for very marginally lower prices (I'd give it a 4.7 if I could) - so please don't let that bother you (I'm really comparing it with Avra, which just about nudges it for me on food). But it's the atmosphere that makes Pelagos really special - the courtyard is stunning and very relaxing. It might not have the sea or lake view that other places do but it's so much better. (Possible tip - my wife thinks we got better seats because she dressed up, but there's no dress code). The staff are great and there's also a very friendly cat who might be cheeky enough to swipe some food - he's adorable! One of the more well known places in AN but lives up to the high ratings.
I visited Pelagos both for lunch and dinner. One of the highlights of this place, and a reason to come not only for the food, is the beautiful outdoor garden – especially in the evening when you can hear birds singing. It’s a very pleasant spot to spend time and certainly a nice place for a meal.
As for the food – I would rate the tzatziki as decent, and the parsley starter turned out to be more of a sauce than a salad. The grilled octopus was good, while the moussaka was definitely the weakest dish. On the positive side, the sea bass was excellent – one of the best dishes I had.
Pelagos is one of our favourite restaurants we’ve eaten in Agios. Lucky enough to get a lovely table inside, the rooms have high ceiling, and decorated With a Cretan classy charm. I was a bit disappointed by the atmosphere of the place. Yes, the garden is nice, but when you get there, it lacks some air and flair. The proposal is very classic: I expected some more personality, maybe less dishes, but a more contemporary and refined menu. The service is very efficient and welcoming. Nice wine selection. It could be better, in the end.

we had a very delicious dinner here with fried courgette (the best I ever had!) and fab main courses like the Greek special plate and seabass carpaccio. We booked the table a few days in advance and noted the wrong time down. However, arriving 30 minutes late we were still seated at a beautiful table in the front row by the sea. Thank you to all the team who were extremely friendly and they’ve created a nice ambiance.
After looking around for a while we headed back to one of the first restaurants we saw that gave us a friendly welcoming “hello”.
The service was very efficient and friendly with our food order arriving very timely.
We went for some basic flavours and were pleased with the size and taste. All washed down with a half carafe of house white wine.

We tried the beef youvetsi and it was outstanding: slow-cooked, tender meat with orzo and grated cheese on top – one of the best dishes we had in Crete. The service was friendly and attentive. At the end of the meal, they treated us to complimentary dessert and local liqueur, a lovely Cretan touch that made the evening even more memorable. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy authentic Greek food in a warm atmosphere.

A real gem in Agios Nikolaos. A little away from the tourist zone ,but in close distance to it, this restaurant is a place to visit again and again. The food is excellent and with options for every kind of taste: vegan , seafood, meat, allergy tested, etc. We tried both seafood and meat, and we really loved both options. Service was fast and polite. The place inside seems recently renovated with really good taste and totally clean. There are also tables at the street outside. The owners and the staff are absolutely adorable. Prices are decent to cheap for this quality of food. Ask for options of the wine list. There are really good suggestions for wine lovers. Keep in mind that you may have to make a reservation, depending on time and day.We will surely visit Portes again and again.

Amazing amazing amazing! This was by far the best restaurant we went to during our stay in Agios Nikolaos. The menu is quite small, which for me it is always an indication of the quality, but you can find something for all the tastes, no matter your culinary preferences (vegan, vegetarian , pescetarian etc.)

My favourite taverna in Agios Nikolaos, with good service, and excellent food. Their grilled sardines are delicious, and they're one of very few places with tradiional horta (greens) on the menu. They have "burgers" that are amazing, made from minced beef and pork, so good we had them several times. The pork chop I had was large, and succulent. Highly recommended!

Just a fantastic experience l.My husband and I shared the 10 Meze starters. And had two other fish dishes and finished with an amazing baklava dessert. We are full but so satisfied. The fresh ingredients and the attention of the service are key. On top of this, u have an amazing view and a nice fresh terrace under the shade of the trees.

Great atmosphere and delicious food. Everything was perfect until it came time to pay. When I asked for the receipt, they were reluctant to provide it — I had to insist. Once I finally got it, I noticed it didn’t reflect our actual order: we only had one starter with mushrooms, a mixed grill for two, and a bottle of Kri Kri wine. The person handling the payment couldn’t explain why the receipt was completely different, but still insisted that the total amount was correct. We even checked the menu again and noticed that the Kri Kri wine — supposedly the house wine — had no listed price, which is probably not even legal. It’s a shame, because a place like this shouldn’t need to mislead its customers.
Fresh, simple clean food! You will feel fulfilled without feeling weighted down by your food. We had a wonderful salad, grilled squid and fried Zucchini with Cheese. Everything was so good and the reasonable pricing make this a place i’ll definitely come back to. The patio area is an awesome place to rest and feel refreshed when your food comes. The waitstaff was very friendly and sweet! Don’t miss this place!

Kimzu Sea Lounge, also known as the Municipal Beach of the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT), is a pebble beach with well-maintained grassy lawns offering ample space for sunbathing. The lounge is renowned for its outdoor seating area overlooking the sea, serving a menu of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine along with an extensive selection of cocktails and wines.
Probably the best seaside complex in Agios Nikolaos. Would give 10 stars if I could. We went for three evenings in a row for food, drinks and a swim because this place is a WINNER. Never too crowded or busy and the atmosphere is amazing. The beach is beautiful with clear water and smooth white sand and the views to the mountains are stunning, of course. Food is delicious and reasonably priced and the speciality drinks are also really yummy. However, the absolute best things were the top tier service and the awesome staff. We were welcomed as friends and warmly wished farewell as we left for the last time (for now). I highly recommend Kimzu for the experience and will definitely come back next time we visit Agios Nikolaos.

The best place to hang out in Agios! We found this place 5 mins from our hotel and just kept coming back as it was so amazing! Comfy beds at a reasonable hire price, helpful and friendly staff, very nice food and drinks, and just the best view. Visited with our 2 year old who loved it too. Can't wait to come back in the future, bonus points for all the funky signs - especially the Star Wars ones!

The food was great, especially the fresh Bass fish we ordered. The grilled halloumi cheese was the best we ate in Agios Nikolaos, a very large dish, with the addition of excellent balsamic. The service was very good, the waiter was very nice and friendly, the food arrived in a relatively short time.
At the end we got a fruit plate and a cold Raki drink, which were a nice ending to the meal.
Of the surrounding restaurants in this area of Agios Nikolaos, this is without a doubt the recommended restaurant.

You want to sit at the beach? You want char-grilled meat and fish? Why go somewhere else?
When it comes to fish, we are very picky, but here we had two amazing experiences. (Yes, we came back.) The first time, I had the 1/2 kg of lamb chops, and my wife had the grilled squid, as well as a Greek salad and grilled eggplant to share.
The second time, we had a custom-made fish platter. The waiter spoke English, German, and French and was very attentive. Before preparing the custom platter, he told us how much it would cost. He also informed us that one of the choices was frozen and suggested a fresh, local alternative.
We were very happy with our food, and the taste was amazing.

The staff were friendly and always on hand for your needs swiftly bringing your food or refills and very knowledgeable about what they were serving.
We had the tarasamalata was fresh and certainly not that pink stuff you get in supermarkets and the garlic prawns were simply divine. The wife tried the lamb chops which she loved and I heartily devoured my delicious mixed grill.

Great dinner at Kyma. Superb views of the marina and bay and very tasty food. When we asked the owner for the dishes of the day, a very pleasant conversation started. We had as starters the tzatziki, cuttle fish and zucchini croquettes, And for mains the (recommended) seafood risotto. It was superb and delicious. Portion sizes were very very generous. Don’t order too much haha :) The service was so friendly and patient as we always have many questions :). We also received a little dessert on the house. Would wholeheartedly recommend and come back!

The worst meal I’ve ever had during this 2-week vacation. We chose this restaurant because of its 4.7 rating and the seafood platter for two people (60€). Well, the staff were okay in the sense that they didn’t make any obvious mistakes, but did we feel taken care of? I don’t think so.
The seafood platter was a disaster. The calamari and cuttlefish were extremely salty and very chewy—and honestly, I couldn’t even tell the difference between the two. The mussels were neither hot nor fresh; they tasted pre-prepared and overcooked. The shrimp, which according to the menu should have been fried, were instead soft and unpleasant. They were so bad that we gave them to a cat nearby—and even the cat threw up afterwards.
The French fries were just plain fries. Also, the platter didn’t include any dip or sauce, so we had to pay extra for that. Throughout the whole meal, the waiter never once came to ask if the food was okay or how we were doing.
Overall, a complete nightmare!
Really nice small cozy place at the sea like from the old Greek movies. We had our fish meze with ouzo. Good food and definitely good price. We will visit again.

We went there for celebrating my wife’s birthday. We had ordered lobster the day before. The restaurant had reserved two fine quality lobsters. They rose up to the special occasion asking who/what we’re celebrating, bringing a vase for our flowers, etc. But most importantly the food was just delicious. Everything we ordered from starters to main course was simple, true and tasty. No unnecessary fancy stuff just pure local food. Great service, smiling people and good value for money!

This family-run restaurant was recommended to us by our Booking host, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We went the first time planning to have pizza, and returned for a second visit. One of the best pizzas we’ve ever had — fluffy crust, simple but high-quality ingredients, very tasty. Keep in mind that the restaurant is closed from 4 PM to 6 PM. Highly recommended!

I can't say enough good things about the food here (except maybe the saganaki cheese which was good, but came with a very sweet jam). The cuttlefish in ink was probably the best cuttlefish or squid I've ever had, it was incredibly tender. The octopus salad was tender and balanced. The bread and dips had a ton of olives and excellent spicy cheese dip. The fava was perfect on the "grilled pie" (which was basically a huge fluffy pita). And the Retsina for €5 was a full half liter.

The tavern is located right by the sea, so while you are there you can enjoy the beautiful view of Amoudi beach. The waiters are young, friendly and smiling. You will get all the recommendations from them. I have been there several times and I have tried octopus, squid, steak... .the food is fantastic and fresh. Everything was excellent. I will come back again.
We took our lunch here twice. Both times we were full and even took home some leftovers from kids orders. Very pleasant environment, on the beach, great view and good food. You get some watermelon when you ask for the bill. We got also some sweet desert, with chocolate syrup - also delicious. So if you are on the Amoody beach, you want, probably, to shortlist this place.

A restaurant right in front of a small, busy, white sand beach that is well protected form bad weather. As most people sit at the restaurant all day due to lack of sunbeds it can be a little tricky to find a table at certain times of the day but not impossible.
We kick off with coffee and snacks and then move on to full lunch that has never disappointed. This is not high end cuisine but rather tasty comfort food accompanied with cold beer.

I went with the idea of trying some local fast food. At first glance, the food is striking due to its photos and the appearance of the establishment. A gray-haired man who appears to be the owner greets you with a face like a shoe, with no intention of serving you. A woman seems to be trying a little harder, although it doesn't feel very natural to her. I ordered a slice of pizza and it was served cold, and for a can of Coke, they charged me €3.50, when in the surrounding area, even in better restaurants, it doesn't go over €2. I don't recommend it at all; on the same street, there are places with much better quality and service.
We had the best chicken gyros and halloumi pita! The portion size is huge, and they have many vegetarian options. For a corner fast food place this is excellent
This place is an absolute rip-off! I've never been so completely scammed. We ordered what we thought would be a simple meal, and they had the audacity to charge us more for a single slice of pizza than they did for an entire pie! When we tried to politely question this insane discrepancy, the owners were incredibly rude.
They were dismissive, condescending, and made us feel like we were the problem for daring to ask about their fraudulent pricing. The food itself was bland and overpriced, but honestly, the outrageous scamming and the owners' disgusting behavior overshadowed everything.

Currently on our second visit here having booked after such a beautiful meal with friendly & helpful staff making recommendations when we didn’t know what to eat, such tasty food and all very affordable, with the traditional & wonderful Cretan hospitality of a food or drink gift (halva or baklava in our case, often shots of Crete’s own Raki - a little like rum). One of the staff even remembered one of us didn’t like mushrooms from our last visit almost a week ago so was able to advise against one dish for us. Live music on Fridays, full of locals from around 8:30pm and the sweetest & most helpful staff. By far our favourite restaurant, tucked away in the town and super affordable - perfect for a first night introduction, last night celebration & any meal out in between.

The food and service here are both outstanding. The smoked pork on the Mesogeiako Salad is to die for. We had the Chicken with Crème and the Lamb Chops. Both were absolutely 5 stars. The service is also the best and the restaurant is clean. Highly recommend.

The waiters are very hospitable, and there is always traditional greek music playing subtly.

This is a family restaurant, so if you are not patient to get great quality food, try somewhere else. It may take a little longer than other restaurants, but it worth the wait! the lady who took our order, was really helpful and she went over the menu with us and gave us a great understanding of the food ingredients. We ordered a few appetizers and a mix plate for main course. All appetizers were super tasty and portions were huge (and we were visiting from the U.S. , so we are used to large portions!), the meets where tender and juicy and we liked everything we ate here. They also provided free desert and Raki at the end of our meal. Thanks again for the great food and ambiance. We will definitely come back in our future trips

"Ta Bouzoukia" in Agios Nikolaos offers fantastic Greek cuisine and a truly homely atmosphere. Really nice chill traditional taverna, it's my 2nd time here and I'm pleased to be back. The food is very tasty and high quality. The atmosphere nice and Cretan, you don't feel it's a tourist trap. They had a few vegan options including zucchini and tomato balls, dolmadakias, fava, perhaps even Genista. And gave me some bean & veggies appetizers. Their wines are also great. I highly recommend
Set back a bit from the main tourist area this is an authentic Greek taverna. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the service very good. The food is delicious. The best meal we’ve had this week. We hade the zucchini with cheese, pork and chicken souvlaki, sausage, fried potatoes and cabbage with carrot. On top of that it’s excellent value for money.

One of our favorite meals on Crete. The restaurant was fairly busy, but not too crowded, with a lot of Greek families eating there (it is situated some distance from most of the more tourist-oriented restaurants). We ordered a variety of different dishes to share, and every one of them was delicious. The entire place feels very local and authentically Cretan; it seems to be family-run, with two older women in charge of the kitchen and the rest of the family waiting tables. The house red wine was great, as was the complementary after-dinner liquor they served when we asked for the check (along with a dessert which was also on the house). The entire meal cost less than 90 Euros for four people, and we had leftovers to take away with us. Definitely recommend this place!
Probably the best authentic greek food we had, there is no greater experience than seeing the ladies who cook the food stick their head out of the kitchen to look at patrons all thoroughly enjoying their meals. Not only is it clearly made with skill, fresh ingredients and authentic flavours, it's done with pride and love.
The fried zucchini flowers were amazing and come highly highly recommended.
Come at 7pm for a beautiful view of the bay or a little later for a busier dining experience.

We were lucky to get a table without a reservation since we arrived a bit earlier than the usual dinner time in Crete before 9 pm. What a wonderful find! This is a true family-run taverna with an incredibly warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owners are so sweet and friendly, making you feel right at home.
Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, freshly prepared, and full of authentic Cretan flavors. We were also treated to complimentary starters and desserts, along with a local liquor at the end — such a thoughtful gesture that made the experience even more special.
Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the location in Agios Nikolaos. Definitely one of the must-try spots if you’re in the area!

Unfortunately the club has taken over almost the whole beach with expensive sunbeds imposing loud music to the once lovely family beach .

*If you charge that much for the beds you should clean them as well as the tables when new guests arrive.
Really nice place. The sea is like swimming in a swimming pool.
The drawback would be that it gets very crowded for such a small beach. The sunbeds are expensive. However, you can just sit on a chair with a table at the back which is free.
Moreover, when ordering coffee, water is always served. Here, we only got coffee, no water. Good thing I brought my own and didn't have to wait for the waiter to bring me a glass.
You cannot match the view and it is the perfect place to eat before or after a swim. Their couscous salad is so delicious. The pizzas are tasty too. What a way to relax the afternoon away!

I made reservation for the sunbeds on the first row and I got the confirmation like that. When we arrived the person who is checking the reservations said we do not have any free place on the first row and I can give you only on the third row. Sorry but then why we make reservation if you give those for your own other customers? The reaction from the personnel was horrible and she did not care or tried to find any solution. The beach was full and everybody was sitting very close. There are much better options. Never again!

Good luck finding a better priced plate of food (also, yummy) in a touristy area on the island. We ended up visiting multiple times. It’s family owned, and the boys (all four who work there) are a bit quirky, but cute, and endearing. Looking forward to returning back:>

Best gyros & grill around, not a tourist stop, Greeks eat here. Tells you how good the food is. Just don't expect service with a smile 😆 idc, I came for food not to make 'connections'
I don't know about the meals they're posting here but ordered a chicken kebab portion and got what's in the pic. Is this a meal that costs 8.5€ ?! Absolutely not! Very small portion with precooked fries and missing the pitta bread.
More decent meals can be found across Crete.

Tasty gyro (both the chicken and pork). Came here after seeing that our otherwise very nice hotel somehow thought it was ok to charge 22 Euros for a gyro. Please do not pay over 5 euros for a gyro. They were 4.30 each here. We didn’t try the ones at the hotel, but I am certain that they would not have been nearly as good as the ones here.

À friend has recommended to us to eat a GOOD pita gyros..... So we went and we had a Really Good pita gyros, quantity wise, quality wise and price wise. Super value of money. No service, no atmosphere but food is super.
Nice Greek souvlaki although not the best one. It is large and tasty, so for the price I think is very fair. Preferred by almost any local asked. The service was just OK - nothing special but it didn't bothered me somehow. The location is on the road, so no view there, you just eat and go. I didn't like the potatoes that where pre-fried but this is common for all restaurants within tourist areas.

Absolutely stunning location!
Unfortunately, I had to lower my rating due to a small but important issue. I specifically asked if they could make a Freddo cappuccino with lactose-free milk and was told yes — but it was served with regular milk.
As someone who reacts to dairy, this affected me for the rest of the day. A simple heads-up that lactose-free milk wasn’t available would have solved the problem — I would’ve just chosen something else.
Still, a lovely spot overall.
I was happy to find a place with air conditioning and wifi so I could do some work. And it came with a sweet view!

It is nice to visit every hour of the day. I would recommend to visit in the afternoon to enjoy the amazing views of the sunset and enjoy some of their delicious homemade desserts! The ice-creams are authentic and delicious.

Farsaris Thanasis is a local gem that comes highly recommended by Greek locals. It's not a touristy spot, with about 90% of its clientele being locals. The menu features smaller Greek snails, which have a unique taste leaning towards a fishy flavor. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing among two or three people, allowing everyone to experience the authentic taste of Greek cuisine.
My favourite place in Agio Nikolaus. There is nothing better than to sit under that fabulous wide tree and watch the other four corners and street life

Great food but a sour taste left in ones mouth.
Went to the effort to search out a local place to eat rather than the seafront tourist spots but that turns out to have been a mistake.
Food was great, simple and original with excellent flavours.
Apparently the small menu we ordered from has outdated prices so ended up being charged approximately 30% more than advertised. Due to the communication barrier just paid rather than arguing it.
As below, whether or not complimentary Raki etc was a thing here it was noted that the locals table next to us had some, offered or purchased, who knows.
Maybe one for foreigners or non Greek speakers to avoid.
This place was recommended to us through a Greek friend. It is by far not a touristy place- in fact it wouldn’t surprise me if 90 percent of the clientele is local.
I love French vineyard snails and I really wanted to try their smaller Greek cousins. Now, they were good, but the taste is unlike any Greek dish I’ve ever had. I don’t know how to describe it, the taste leaned towards a fishy kind of pallet. Share one portion with two or three people - it will be enough. The owner warned us that they are quite salty because of the way they’re cooked.
We had some more mezze like small sardines, dolmades, dacos and fried zucchini. All together it was a delicious lunch, friendly priced.
Very disappointing - place looks really dirty, the restroom up the stairs is in awful condition, food was really below average. Minced beef patties had a very strange texture and were totally undercooked. We - unlike locals around us - did not get complimentary watermelon and raki. Will not be back.
Most rude treatment I found in Greece. Serving locals and ignoring me. Waited for more then 30 minutes then they asked what I wanted to drink. I said I wanted food to,they took the order from the next table that arrived 5 minutes ago and didn't respond at all when I wanted to order. Living for a year in Greece now, never seen this before.
Definitely not a typical tourist place. You won't find "classics" like souvlaki and moussaka here, but all the dishes are really tasty and freshly prepared.
