Wine bar
Nestled on the cliffs of Ilfracombe, The Terrace Tapas and Wine Bar offers a delightful escape into the heart of Spanish cuisine. This charming venue is perfect for those seeking to indulge in an array of authentic tapas, from beloved classics like patatas bravas to inventive dishes crafted with local ingredients. With a fantastic selection of fine wines and cocktails, guests can sip their drinks while soaking in stunning views of the sea and surrounding historical architecture.
We turned up looking for a table on a Friday night and we were not disappointed. From the moment we walked in the door we felt welcomed. The staff were very efficient and provided recommendations regarding dishes and how much to order. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was good. We would definitely return for more tasty food if we were to stay in Ilfracombe again.

Absolutely amazing customer service: Personal and attentive without being intrusive. The food was out of this world and priced very well. It is really nice to be able to keep ordering as the mood takes you keeping it really relaxed and friendly. The cocktails were proper drinks made to order and didnt just taste like fruit juice with a shot in it.

Definitely the best food in Ilfracombe! Dawn and Clive have created an atmosphere which welcomes you from beginning to end. Authentically cooked tapas that offered a wide variety of choices for both carnivores and vegetarians and a cocktail list that delivers with every drink. Will definitely be visiting again, thank you for such a lovely evening!
James B — Google review
I can honestly say this was one of the best meals we have had. The staff were so attentive and friendly. When we arrived they had even had a bowl of water ready for our pup, some treats on a dish and a blanket. So so thoughtful, they really went the extra mile! The cocktails were absolutely amazing, some of the best I’ve tasted for a long time. The food was excellent, full of flavour, nice and hot and you could just tell that the dishes were made with love. The atmosphere was lovely and the restaurant were beautifully decorated with a traditional Spanish feel. I would love to come back if I lived closer but was a great place to visit on our little trip. Couldn’t recommend enough, deffo one to visit if you’re in/around Ilfracombe! Thank you so much The Terrace Tapas xx

It prides itself on offering authentic Italian cuisine, with recipes passed down through generations. Fantastic Italian restaurant! Friendly fun staff and the most delicious food. The selection and ability to adapt recipes is brilliant. As a vegetarian I found that there were many choices. We will definitely be going back

A lovely lunch stop in the centre of Ilfracombe. Plenty to choose from on the menu, including vegetarian and vegan options. I had the crayfish spaghetti with home-made olive bread, which was delicious! Highly recommend.

Fantastic family-run restaurant with stunning traditional Italian dishes. My wife and I called in today whilst passing and we were not disappointed. Thank you, we will be returning!

A lovely, friendly Italian restaurant with delicious food. Staff were lovely and chatty. Reasonably priced too. Just think the restaurant itself needs a bit of a revamp but apart from that, I loved it all!
Olivia S — Google review
We had the most delicious food at this restaurant, served hot, well timed and with enthusiasm. The owners and staff were both welcoming and attentive. From start to finish 😗👌🏻 Highly recommend

Fantastic food, impeccable service and the cosiest atmosphere. My partner and I went for dinner this evening and I had the BEST mushroom linguine I have ever had, he had the chicken and bolognese and was very impressed. Would recommend to anyone in the area. Excellent value for money too, very reasonable price for starters, mains and drinks each.

The harbour-front café S&P Fish Shop specializes in seafood plates and sandwiches, as well as salads. The café also has a tank with live lobsters and crab for customers to enjoy.
What a beautiful shop! It’s also a restaurant. The staff are VERY helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We tried John Dory for the first time, delicious, we also had bass, mussels, crevettes, lobster, and some mixed seafood as a snack. Lovely place, must visit Our bbq was wonderful Thank you
Laura B — Google review
We visited S&P Fish Shop on Friday of last week. We had some lunch and had also ordered the Devon Dozen, and the Spectacular Seafood Platter to take back to our villa in Saunton Sands. I cannot recommend S&P Fish Shop highly enough. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, and the food....it was superb!! My parents said that the oysters were the best they have eaten outside of Boston, and the seafood platter was actually spectacular. Lunch was delicious and just what we needed after a 3 hour drive from Hampshire. If you love seafood and you get a chance to visit Ilfracombe then do not miss out on a visit to this place!!
Matthew R — Google review
The seafood platter for two was absolutely fantastic, plenty of food for me, my wife and our son. We all tried and enjoyed everything especially the crab and lobster. It was a cold and wet day when we visited and the small seating area only had two couples eating, so we're were sceptical about the good reviews we had seen. The food we saw looked good, so we decided to give it a go. It was the best decision we made! The food was fantastic and worth every penny!
Gareth J — Google review
Such an excellent find for delicious and fresh seafood! My husband and I were looking for a seafood restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We saw this online and booked it and we weren't disappointed. It is only a small café, with limited tables, and outside only. It's right on the harbour side, which was a bit chilly on a cooler day in summer - so take/ wear layers. The staff were friendly and service was really good and fast. The shellfish supreme platter for 2 was amazing and a huge portion. I would absolutely recommend trying it and we'll definitely go back!
Pooja P — Google review
STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED!! We saw all the good comments on google so we went! But felt more like a tourist trap! Had the supreme seafood platter for two (£49.xx) and half dozen of Rock oyster (£16.xx) The half lobster and the crab was good. But apart from that the oyster wasnt great i guess just not at the right season. Its july when we went. But the most disappointing thing is the platter, on one side of the dish you could badly taste the (cleaning spray all over it, you literally felt like you are eating the detergent or sort which was extremely horrible); we reported to the lady there and we were the only customer there and the instant response we got was “we don’t know anything about it” while she was the only person there serving! So to conclude, we didn’t even get an apologise, and nothing were done! So we just left with half of the dish left! (Despite this is a family run business and we saw the owner just walking around) but still nothing were put in action, no feedback whatsoever) Strongly NOT recommend!
Maria L — Google review
Busy place, we advise booking. We ordered some oysters and the S&P seafood sharing platter for 3 to 4 people, it was divine, we loved it and as we didn't manage to eat all we took the rest home..there was enough for another meal.. definitely good value for money.
Solinas74 — Google review
A delicious lunch. All very fresh seafood and reasonably priced. Just wished they had an actual restaurant instead of the marquee as it was cold!
Olivia S — Google review
Stopped by here for some fresh peeled prawns, they were gorgeous!!! Weren’t sure how long they would keep for and unfortunately some went to waste, was such a BIG portion. I would definitely pop by again 🍤 🎣 🐟

Nestled above the new Watersports Hub at Larkstone Cove, The Lime Kiln Cafe & Bar offers breathtaking views of the harbor and Verity from its terrace. It's a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, with easy wheelchair access and dog-friendly policies. The cafe boasts a cozy atmosphere with twinkling lights and pleasant music, making it an ideal place for a relaxed meal or cocktails during their happy hour.
Came yesterday for lunch (Smash Burger for me, ButterMilk Chicken burger for my wife - Bridget). Both meals were fantastic, atmosphere lovely, brilliant weather but opted to sit inside. Staff were excellent, chatty and attentive and provided a bowl of water for Albie our Black Lab 🐾🐾. We liked it so much we came back for breakfast the following day. Again, staff fantastic, friendly, polite and helpful. This time I had the large Farmhouse breakfast which was fantastic and Bridget opted for some sourdough toast The latte was lovely and very artistic with the sea horse on the top. Can't fault it, Prices very reasonable in my opinion and would come again. Albie certainly likes it 😍😍💯
Gareth S — Google review
Decided to trundle across the harbour to the Lime Kiln based on the fact it was dog friendly. We were glad we did. The Lime Kiln is in a great position overlooking the harbour with plenty of options for seating - inside, outside or up on the deck. Service was great - particular shout-out to Karen who was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, including the fish & chips and the smokey ham hock. Would definitely visit again and this is probably the first place you should try if you’re visiting Ilfracombe.
Cal J — Google review
Had a really nice dinner at The Lime Kiln! The burgers were absolutely delicious—definitely up there with the best. While the kids' menu options were very limited, the kids burgers my boys had was great and they really enjoyed their meals. A wonderful spot with excellent food polite staff and a nice view.
Ashley R — Google review
Called in for lunch without a reservation and was shown to a table for two with quite a nice sea view. We both ordered the Mussels and Fries and a couple of pints of lager. Food came promptly after approximately 15 minutes. The food was excellent, big plump juicy mussels in a cider, bacon and leek style sauce with a decent amount of Fries on the side. Everything was served hot. Couldn’t fault the food 10/10. Lime Kiln is also a very nice place. Would definitely recommend.
David C — Google review
What a place! Food, drink and crew are all fantastic. We had mussels followed by steak and it was really good. Dog friendly and views across to Ilfracombe harbour wall. All in all a great night. Thanks to Karen our server, who even with a 16 table to look after, made time to chat with us.
Martin A — Google review
Brilliant place, great service and fantastic views. The steak was beautiful and the burger really good. They even cooked two sausage's for Misty😁 Very dog friendly. I would recommend the upper terrace outdoors as it gets more sun!
Tim O — Google review
We stopped here for lunch, it was really worth it. We had the smoked fish platter with home made tartare sauce, delicious and plenty for 2 to share. We had a couple of drinks and sat and enjoyed the late summer sun. Service was good and staff very welcoming and friendly.
Fiona S — Google review
Such a lovely place! Highly recommend this Resturant. We have visited twice during our week stay here, both times with a one year old baby and the staff were more than welcoming and made us feel totally at ease bringing a messy baby out to eat! Food was incredible, best steaks we have had in a long time. Great atmosphere and stunning views. Definitely the best place we have been to in the area! Thank you very much for the experience!

Fish and chips takeaway
Lynbay Fish & Chips Shop Restaurant & Takeaway is a popular spot in Ilfracombe, known for serving up delicious and ethically sourced fish and chips right on the harbor front. With an MSC certificate and locally caught, sustainably sourced fish, they offer hearty portions of fish and chips that can be enjoyed in their family and dog-friendly restaurant or taken away. The food may be a bit pricey, but it's worth it according to many reviewers who have praised the delicious flavors.
Take away Fish (Haddock) and Chips. The restaurant opened at 12pm, so the oil was clean for frying. Slightly higher price than some, but the quality of fish and home-made chips were excellent. Situated right on the harbour front, where you can eat in your car if you like with a view.
Steve M — Google review
I’ve never been big on fish & chips – too greasy, too heavy… just not for me. But this place? Game changer. Beautifully fresh fish with a light, crispy coating (not a drop of oil in sight!) and golden chips that were spot on. It was so good, we came back again on our last day – couldn’t resist! If you’re anywhere near North Devon, make sure to try it. I know I’ll be back next time I’m around!
Mariola M — Google review
Perfectly cooked fish and chips. Light, crisp batter and nicely cooked chips. We sat in the small restaurant area as we did not want to fight off the many seagulls around the harbour. The tables were clean and the service was good. Highly recommend this very nice fish and chips shop.
Michele D — Google review
I’ve come here for the past two decades! Nothing can beat genuinely freshly caught cod or haddock! In my humble opinion, this establishment sells the best fish and chips in the whole country - never soggy, never over-salted, nice and flaky. Added bonus is it’s a family run business. Take away or eat in it’s own air conditioned restaurant at the back of the shop.
Oksana H — Google review
Stayed in mortehoe a week ago and visited Lynbay fish and chips as been recommended. Absolutely first class food have a large seating area as well. Plus they have a large selection of gluten free food as well even gluten free batter. Excellent service very helpful staff who are a credit to the owner. Will definitely be popping back in the new year. Set in Ilfracombe harbour great setting for a meal either sit in or takeaway.
Andy — Google review
1 cod & chips, 1 haddock & chips. Both fish lacked flavour although the haddock was better. Moreover, the batter was hard in places, but soggy in others. It was very greasy. The chips tasted ok but were anaemic looking. The last culinary insult was using coloured acetic acid instead of vinegar. Foul.
Matthew H — Google review
Used to be a must-stop… now it’s just a must-skip. We’ve been coming to Lynbay for years - nothing beats sitting on the harbour with fish and chips, watching the world go by. But after our visit recently, that tradition’s been well and truly battered. The portion of fish was no bigger than a seagull’s guilt, and for the price, you’d think it had been line-caught by Poseidon himself, hand-battered by Gordon Ramsay, and served on a golden plate. Sadly, it’s clear the prices have gone up with the tide — inflated for tourists and leaving locals like us feeling a bit fried. If you’re craving proper value and a portion you don’t need a magnifying glass for, head towards Braunton and get your money’s worth at a certain well-known chippy that still believes in portion sizes and seasoning. Lynbay, you were a part of our family tradition but it looks like it’s time to cast our net elsewhere.
Forkinghonestdevon — Google review
Arrived to ilfracombe early evening after a day out in Lynton. Got a table straight away and order taken quickly. In no time at all large plates of high quality, pale but crispy (well cooked and low sugar content) chips and expertly battered ocean fresh cod were delivered to our table by the friendly staff. Great variety of sides and drinks. Not the cheapest, but well worth the money. Thanks so much! Can’t recommend enough!

Located at the bottom of Fore Street, Take Thyme Lobster & Fish Restaurant is a charming spot that offers a touch of personality. The restaurant focuses on serving fresh, locally caught fish and West Country reared steaks prepared with simple ingredients to let the flavors shine. Situated right on the harbor, this informal eatery provides a perfect setting for a romantic lunch or small group gatherings.
Absolutely love this restaurant. Best fish and chips I’ve had in years and the fish chowder is so yum. All the team are so friendly and welcoming. A really special meal in a lovely place.

We called in without booking on a Wednesday lunch time. A few tables free but filling up by the time we left. My wife had the sea bass with new potatoes which she enjoyed. I had seen a photo of the fish stew in another review so I went for that. I was expecting a really deep fish flavour but it was just a simple tomato sauce with just one type of fish and a few mussels. It comes served with 4 bits of a small baguette. Portion sizes are on the small side. Service was prompt and good. Wish I had gone for the lobster as it looked amazing on a table near ours.
Ken D — Google review
This is only a small restaurant, café sized really, but what fabulous food. The owners are a couple who are apparently the (highly talented) chefs whilst front of house are two lovely, funny and very efficient ladies. We shared a dish of olives and a plate of scallops, then had mussels in a creamy sauce and fish stew. We wanted pudding but the generous helpings made that impossible! Everything was precisely spiced and delicious. All the produce (well, apart from the olives!) is locally sourced, the fish landed yards away earlier that day. It may be on the menu, but if it wasn't caught, it isn't cooked. Oh and a Bellini and a Combe Cooler added a little something to the lunch.

Amazing food! The owner Tara makes everyone feel welcome. My sister said best squid starter she's had. Recommend the Mediterranean Fish Stew, rich and full of flavour

We had a really delicious lunch here. We actually stayed longer in Ilfracombe just to eat here, and we’re so glad we did. The fish was cooked to perfection! The servers were all super friendly, gregarious and welcoming. We will definitely be returning as soon as we can 😊

Me and my husband visited this lovely Lobster and fish restaurant yesterday. We arrived to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and found this little gem. Both ladies serving us were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Moved a table into the sunshine for us and we're so friendly and funny. The lobster was out of this world and my husband really enjoyed the fish and chips. The drinks were gorgeous too! We will definitely return when we come back to Devon and I would 1000000% recommend to anyone visiting Ilfracombe.

A fantastic spot for a delicious lunch. The service was outstanding and the flavours were second to none. Amongst us we had the mussels, dressed crab & Mediterranean stew couldn’t fault a single thing. Would highly recommend.

Excellent experience. Friendly staff created a comfortable, relaxing, family environment with a nautical vibe. The service was friendly and efficient but the seafood was fabulous, fresh and incredibly tasty and moreish. I had seared scallops and seabass. My wife had chowder with bacon, potatoes and salad. My son had the mussels and crusty bread. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and can totally see why other reviews are glowing. Highly recommended.

Stunning. What a hidden gem. Great atmosphere amazing food and great portion sizes. I wish there were more places like this. Well done guys

A hidden gem! Our 3rd visit to this lovely pub tucked away off the busy main area. Nice outside seating area where we sat with our 2 dogs. Bowls of water provided, perfect after a long beach walk and thirsty pups. The food on previous visits was very good and this time it was the same. Ordered 2 ultimate burgers and wow such good value for money. The quality of the beef was exceptional. I had to ask for a takeout box as it was so big I couldn’t finish it all. Worth a try if you’re in the area. We already can’t wait to return.

Lovely pub a little out of the way and could easily be overlooked. Nice dog friendly bar with a good range of beers, we only went in for a drink so not able to review the food although it looked incredible. Definitely worth finding this pub as it is a hidden gem!

We always visit the beautiful gem in woolacombe after discovering it nearly a decade ago now. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere of the place is relaxed & welcoming. The staff are amazing! Helpful in every way even during busiest of periods. Would definitely recommend as a great place to eat oh & the cocktails wow 👍🍸😋😊

Tucked away just off the main strip, The Jube is a bit of a hidden gem in Woolacombe. We went on a Friday night, so it was understandably busy, and we had to wait a little while for a table, but it was totally worth it. The vibe is spot on. Relaxed, friendly, and perfect whether you’re just grabbing a quiet drink or catching up over food with friends. Our waiter was brilliant really attentive despite how packed it was. The food took a little time to come out as they work from a small kitchen, but honestly, when it arrived, we got it. Everything was so fresh and the portions were huge. Properly off-the-charts good. You can tell they care about quality. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this spot. It’s the kind of place that feels laid-back but still delivers in a big way.
Navi A — Google review
A Regrettably Disappointing Visit – Be Warned I feel it's important to share our experience to hopefully prevent others from encountering the same frustration. Our recent visit was, regrettably, very disappointing. First and foremost, the wait times were outrageous. We were initially told a 50-minute wait for a table of two, with no option to book in advance. After nearly an hour of waiting, we were told our table would be ready "soon." However, once we were finally able to order, we faced an additional 1 hour and 15 minute wait for our food to arrive. The atmosphere was equally problematic. If you're hoping to eat outside, be prepared for a constant stream of chain-smokers. Inside, the noise level was akin to a nightclub, with blaring music and shouting making it incredibly difficult to hold a conversation, even with those at our own table. The bar staff also seemed overwhelmed and barely acknowledged customers. It was evident that the staff are overworked and severely mismanaged. They appeared to be receiving conflicting instructions, leading to a chaotic environment. (Kudos to the front-of-house staff member who was trying their best to manage the huge influx of people.) Lastly, let's talk about the prices, which are frankly extortionate. It's as if we were In London ! the cost of both food and drinks was astronomically high, far exceeding the average prices found at other local restaurants
Ashman B — Google review
Lovely pub hidden in the back streets, great seating inside and out. Quiet when we visited but would imagine that it would get full in the summer holiday months. Dog friendly. Really tasty, well presented food. Plenty of choices on the menu. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great little find and would thoroughly recommend.

Nestled just a stone's throw from the picturesque Hele Bay, The Hele Bay Pub is a delightful spot that promises both great food and a friendly atmosphere. This award-winning establishment prides itself on serving hearty pub classics crafted from locally sourced ingredients, ensuring every bite is fresh and flavorful. With an impressive selection of real ales, beers, and wines to complement your meal, you can unwind in their charming sea view beer garden or enjoy family-friendly amenities like a children's games room and soft play area.
Very nice pub however was a little cold whilst we were having a meal. I understand it's out of season but some heating would have been nice. Would have stayed longer. The meals we had were really nice and well cooked. The staff were very welcoming and treated our dog like a king.

Great food and amazing views of the sea. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere and decor. Food is great and amazing selection of drinks.

Friendly staff, nice food, yet a lack of information on the website. The menu on offer at the moment is heavily reduced, they are currently not offering starters or desserts and a smaller selection of mains than advertised on the website. There was also no mention of a reduced menu when booking. A reduced menu is completely understandable due to staff shortages, however it would be nice to know beforehand. Other than that, very nice food.

Great, child friendly pub. Nice staff and locals. Good food and relaxed but not your run of the mill menu. A little more than average. Recommend the Belgium waffle in maple syrup!

Really lovely burgers, the chicken burger came with two options- either grilled or fried breadcrumb. Came with onion rings and a decent portion of chips. Tasty though. Staff were friendly and pleasant, very attentive. Overall cost was slightly on the pricey side, but as we were visiting for the first time and possibly the last- worth it. The menu has a good variety also

Stopped at Hele beach for a quick lunch. Plenty of outdoor space in the sun at midday (open time) on a Friday. Chicken burger was very good, moist, big chicken breast. I was told the burger was also good. Only had soft drinks so can’t comment on alcohol. Area outside could be made to look a bit nicer, they were people putting up parasols and moving furniture around. About 9 outdoor wooden picnic benches and also some rattan style seats with tables. Inside and outside looked clean. Would return.

Pub
Located in Ilfracombe, The Thatched Inn is a 17th-century building that offers traditional pub grub made with locally sourced ingredients. While dogs are not allowed inside, they are welcome in the beer garden, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal and drinks on sunny days. The menu caters to all tastes and includes delicious real ales at the bar.
We have been visiting this pub every year for quite sometime now and we have never had a bad experience. There is a smallish menu although it is larger than shown on their website but there is also a specials board with 3 or 4 extra choices. They always have a number of fresh fish options with plenty of other choices for non fish lovers. Most of the meals are offered with a choice of 2 sides which I think is a good idea, on this occasion I went for The Bass Fillet with sides of New Potatoes and Dressed Salad, my partner Kim went for the Scampi with Fries and Coleslaw. Both meals were very good, the Bass Fillet was the joint best meal that I had during our 7 day holiday (the other restaurant being S Q Bar & Restaurant in Braunton). The pub itself is absolutely gorgeous (see photo's) and the service was spot on. If you love fish then this is the place for you. Strangely, being so close to the sea, this was the only pub that we visited during our week away that had a good selection of fish options. We are very much looking forward to visiting The Thatched Inn again when we are next in the area.

We arrived at around 1730 and were fortunate to get a table straight away inside. We ordered salt and pepper squid for starters, and for mains skate wing with capers and lemon butter, steamed broccoli and new potatoes, lemon sole with the same vegetables, and two kids burgers. We finished off with apple crumble and biscoff cheesecake. The fish was really tasty and fresh, and the puddings delicious. All the staff were really welcoming and were working hard all night to keep a lot of customers happy, and on a Bank holiday too. Thank you for our lovely meal.

Situated outside the main area of the town in a residential area. Inside the pub/restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable, however the outside area could do with some serious upgrading to the picnic style wooden benches. Perhaps more modern, comfortable outdoor furniture would assist in making the pub look more appealing. The menu is not extensive, however it does offer a decent selection of dishes. The food we selected for our evening meal was tasty, cooked perfectly and with good sized portions. The desserts were also good. Prices were in line with other pub/restaurants in the area and offers decent value for money. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Note: At the time of our visit, this pub closes at 10pm (food served until 8pm), so not ideal if you are planning on staying for a few drinks after your evening meal.

Stopped off for a drink and sat outside in the beer garden. As the name suggests, it's a very pretty pub with a thatched roof. We had driven past the day before and it was extremely busy but this time we managed to find parking and there were plenty of free tables. They have a good range of beers and ciders. The food looked good, although we didn't have any, so I can't comment. Staff were really friendly. They have a handy hatch where you can get served quickly in the garden without walking back inside. Highly recommend for a relaxing drink.

Stopped in here for a quick pint whilst on a day trip to Infracombe. Did not stop for food on this occasion. However from what I could see, the food did look good. A charming pub, that is worth a visit if you are in the area.

Superb! Amazing restaurant with perfect food, accompanied by fabulous service from all of the friendly team. Relaxed and informal atmosphere, lovely decorated restaurant. A good choice of freshly made dishes, with locally sourced ingredients and prepared with pride to create the perfect evening. Portion sizes were perfect, with plenty of fresh vegetables and potatoes to accompany the meal. During our visit to Ilfracombe this restaurant was fully booked each evening they opened, so advance booking is essential.

As soon as we entered, the hostess was so friendly, informative and inviting, I'm really indecisive and she was really happy to advise me on what to have. The Hake was to die for! We ended up having 3 courses and coffee! We will definitely be back next time we're in Ilfracombe and would 100% recommend going here. Restaurant
Tucked away near the harbor, The Antidote is a charming destination for those seeking an elegant dining experience. This Michelin-starred restaurant takes pride in its modern British cuisine, showcasing the finest seasonal ingredients from local Devon producers. From cured salmon with a zesty ponzu dressing to Cornish hake with a delicate beurre blanc sauce, their menu offers inventive twists on classic dishes.
If you love fine dining and are in Ilfracombe this is a must visit. The Antidote is a very small restaurant owned by people who clearly love what they do. There's only 6 tables so booking is essential if you don't want to miss out (and believe me, you don't!). We had soup for starters which was delicious. I didn't take a photo as it was so delicious we just dived straight in! For mains i had the guinea fowl and my partner has the hake. Both were beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. For pudding we both had the pistachio and rose pudding. This was so light and beautifully balanced. The service was also fantastic, you weren't hurried at all and our hostess took the time to speak with us. All in all, we will be back for sure and would recommend to anyone who loves fine food. The value for money is just amazing too. A must visit!

Really lovely restaurant that we used to celebrate our one-year wedding anniversary. Really well priced at £39.90 per person plus gratuity of 10%. Food was exceptional as was the service. Nothing felt rushed, but food came in a timely manner. Waitress was really helpful. I can see why it’s a Michelin recommended restaurant. The only slight downside is that the size of the meals is small. We enjoyed them thoroughly but I was hungry afterwards. Would definitely come again and recommend to friends/family.

Coffee shop
Breakfast restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Ilfracombe, Annie and the Flint is a delightful coffee house that I discovered during a leisurely drive along High Street. This charming café has become my go-to spot for coffee, thanks to its inviting atmosphere and exceptional brews sourced from the renowned Cornish roaster, Origin. Whether you're looking for a cozy breakfast of banana bread or a hearty lunch featuring loaded bagels and delicious flatbreads, this place has it all.
We love the place and come here every morning while on holiday in Ilfracombe. Great coffee and very nice and approachable staff, who have no problems going the extra mile. Also, there is plenty of seating available and some plesant music in the background.

A divine, independent coffee house, situated at the top end of the high street, opposite Morrisons Daily. You'll get the best latte ever made here & the cakes are to die for! I can highly recommend the ginger cake, carrot cake & Peanut butter brownie, all fabulously delicious. The staff are lovely & service comes with a smile. We can highly recommend a visit here, especially if looking for a cosy place for a pit stop.

A lovely little cafe, we had the steak focaccia and the flatbread platter which were both lovely. They serve Origin speciality coffee and seemed very enthusiastic about it, with a chalk board to explain what speciality is, big plus points. This place also seemed very child friendly, with a changing table, toys and books for kids and a variety of seating options. Overall, can't wait to return.

The food was great, the staff was friendly and pleasant. We sat next to main room. Everything was cooked to perfection. Prices are very reasonable. Cake slices were delicious. Kids loved them. Toilet need some work. Coffee and sandwiches were delicious. Best cafe in Ilfracombe North Devon. Highly recommended
AJMAL K — Google review
Great coffee, but a limited menu. The coffee and smoothies were lovely. It’s just a bit restricted for choice on breakfast and lunch options as it’s more of a cafe than restaurant. I think some of the photos on here are a bit misleading re. food choices. Nonetheless enjoyed our coffee, service was friendly and would return. Editing due to the response received by the owner. I won’t be bullied into giving 5 stars.
L — Google review
I visited on a couple of occasions whilst living in Ilfracombe over winter. One of the multiple cafes on the high street this cafe is quite hard to see into as it suffers from condensation on the interior full windows, which makes it difficult to see inside and thus assess if there is room to sit. Once inside there cafe is split into 2 small halves, with the cash desk flanked by cake displays, with chalk writing detailing what cakes are available that day and at what price. On every visit, the staff were friendly but seemed overwhelmed/inexperienced and anything ordered from the menu took some time to arrive as there seemed a lot of multi-tasking going on. The menu was very poor in terms of visibility and I've attached some pictures to illustrate how faint the writing was. Seemed to attract a younger clientele maybe based on being associated with the young people running the cafe. Unfortunately both the savoury food and cakes were quite underwhelming in taste and texture. Given the competition nearby it's hard to justify a visit.

After reading the recommendations and a local telling us of the lovely lunch menu we decided to meet friends here for lunch. Plenty of comfortable seating areas sofas and coffee tables or dining tables. We went to order to be told half the ingredients weren't available. No salad, limited ingredients. We ordered. Coffee showed up with incorrect milk. 2 meals showed up and then the rest of us had to wait nearly 35 -40 minutes for the remainder. It was only a couple of toasties and a child meal. We had to approach the counter 3 times to follow up on the food. The food was ok.really disappointed and won't be returning or recommending.

The Olive Room is a nice little spot, you can easily miss it walking down Fore Street! We had a delicious vegetarian sharing platter here with wine – the chef was kind enough to make their sharing platter vegetarian by replacing a couple of items. It was a good amount of food too (but perhaps there could have been a bit more bread) and fairly priced. We'll be going again 👌🏻

We really enjoyed the feeling of this place, ! Very social with lots of ambiance and charm . They let us come in even tho it was very crowded and they knew we werent going to eat . Earlier they saw us looking and were very welcoming . My husband can't drink a lot because of his afib but I got a couple of glasses of wine and did not as specify the size of glass so ended up apparently having the medium size which was a bit more than I meant to spend , but I didn't mind because they were very nice and the music was out of this world -and free ! Plus a very tasty choice of wines .It's very small for a music venue which makes it cozy , but also means it's hard to order . I think they might have their regulars but we didn't feel excluded. I applaud what they are trying to do and wish them much luck.! We hope to make it to the sea shanty night on Thurs and are sad we missed the Sunday afternoon music . The live jazz was organic and sublime !

The Dolphin is a seafood restaurant in Ilfracombe with consistently great food and friendly service. They take reservations and cannot be faulted for their whole operation. The takeaway shop is also excellent.
Lovely, little restaurant! I was very surprised to find they had vegan fish, so decided to try it. It was very nice and also the chips and curry sauce were lovely and vegan friendly. The staff were lovely, especially the lady with with long, brown hair in a ponytail who had excellent customer service skills. We might even pop in again before we leave, it was that nice! The restaurant was also very clean.

Food: Good food. Chips could've been better doused with salt and vinegar. Good portion sizes, wrapped in your classic paper and packaging. I had a battered sausage which tasted nice with the outside crispy. Photos below Service/experience: I did a takeout experience, and haven't tried sitting. Not overly impressed with the The Dolphin, purely because there was quite a long wait. I don't know if this is consistent or just a one off. I was waiting along with 2-3 other groups for our orders. It took around 15 minutes to be ready. However the exterior looks great with the dark blue colours, and chrome ornament. If eating outside beware of the seagulls and keep food shielded. Photos below Thanks Dolphin team

We were seated quickly with friendly attentive staff. The food was too notch. I would highly recommend the seafood platter. And where else can you get a pint of peroni in a fish and chip shop. Will 100% be returning and highly recommend.

Popped into The Dolphins for a fish and chips lunch and left very happy. Portions are generous: long fillets that spill over the plate and a hearty pile of proper chippy chips. The battered fish was golden and crisp with a steamy, flaky interior; the batter wasn’t greasy and stayed crunchy to the last bite. The grilled fish option was a pleasant surprise too—nicely seasoned, moist, and served with a fresh side salad and lemon, great if you want something lighter

Lovely chippy overlooking the harbour, I remember this place from when I was a kid my grandad always used to like this one and you can buy fresh seafood from a takeaway counter at the front, but sit down dining is great too with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Try and get the table neat the wimdow if it's available. Very good food.

Straight in and seated by a lovely waitress. Got our drinks straight away and waited for about 10 - 15 minutes for freshly cooked cod and chips. I had garden peas my husband had mushy peas. The fish just flaked away and melted in your mouth. The chips were perfectly cooked and the mushy peas and garden peas where a normal green! (Not dayglow green like some chippies!) lovely vibe and clean, dog friendly too! Would dine here again without a doubt. Thank you for the lovely experience and food.

Lovely chippy on the harbour at Ilfracombe. We liked it so much we went twice during our stay. I'm vegan and my partner is not but there was plenty of choice for us both. I had the sweet potato curry on one occasion and the vegan fish alternative on the other, both were lovely. My partner had the grilled salmon which she loved so much she had it twice! Staff on both occasions were great, really chatty and funny - especially the manager who was hilarious. Restaurant was clean and tidy, and both visits the place was busy. Food came quickly and was delicious. If I lived in Ilfracombe I would be here regularly, 5* all round.

The food is great here and I have had several visits now. I have several family members who are gluten intolerant. They have a Gluten Free menu which is great as many fish n chip shops are so hard to find that serve this. For those who are GF they also do GF sauces like curry and gravy.

Nestled in a picturesque cove, Barricane Beach Cafe is the perfect spot to unwind after a day of beach activities. With its stunning views of undulating waves and the impressive Monkey Island nearby, this cafe offers a delightful escape. Known for its delicious Sri Lankan curry, especially popular during the summer months, it also serves an array of hearty options like loaded baguettes, baps, and jacket potatoes.
This was just amazing! We decided to give this a try on recommendation, and boy, it didn’t disappoint! We got there about 6pm, and the queue to order food was up the hill - can’t be a bad sign, right?? The queue moved quickly, and it took around 20 mins for the food to come out. The beach was full, everyone eating a portion of curry, with either a fresh pineapple juice or a can of their own drink, watching the sunset after a long, really warm, and clear blue sky day! If you’re in the area and like a curry, do not sleep on this one! Fingers crossed you do it on a nice day, where you can have the spectacle of the sunset too!

We were walking down the beach front towards Woolacombe when we smelt the pleasant aroma of curry wafting up the cliff. This was enough to whet our appetite. Let’s not get carried away, this is takeaway food from a beach cafe, there’s nothing gourmet about it. However, it’s good value for money, the setting is amazing and the food very tasty. Overall I would recommend a visit and I am pleased to rate this establishment at 4 stars.
Barry B — Google review
Can't beat a Sri Lankan curry takeaway on the beach. They've kept it to a simple, winning strategy - choice of 2 curries either meat (usually chicken) or veg and two portion sizes - adults or kids. Tasty food served in a delightful spot.
Michelle J — Google review
Pretty much perfect. A lovely little location, partially sheltered by the cliffs and with just four tables in front of the shed-type building. It's all lifted up over the shingle and shell-fragment beach, overlooking the water between the cliffs and slate monoliths upon which tourists climb for a dramatic panoramic. To sit there and eat really feels like being on holiday. As for the food, it's very good. The Argentinian ciabatta with beef, onions, peppers and more was absolutely delicious. We went back on the same day for the Sri Lankan curry, which wasn't presented so well but was very tasty; well balanced spices and perfectly crunchy veg. Can't recommend highly enough if you're in the area.
Matt K — Google review

Every year we make a visit to the Barracane Beach Cafe a must when we do our annual staycation to North Devon. This is because we love the food (so delicious) and the atmosphere is chilled and relaxed at the beach ( very family friendly and dog friendly). Each year gets better sitting and watching the sunset whilst having our meal and I cannot recommend this experience enough after a day of surfing/bodyboarding or other activities in the area Keep it up and I look forward to visiting again next year!

Nestled within the surfer-friendly Beach House Hostel, the Beach House Restaurant in Woolacombe is a delightful spot that perfectly captures the essence of coastal dining. This dog-friendly eatery specializes in fresh, locally sourced seafood, making it an excellent choice for both light lunches and late-night dinners while soaking up stunning views of the beach.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FOOD! We live in Derbyshire and were holidaying in Croyde back in July and found this place after a quick google search for gluten free food as I am coeliac. I was blown away by how stunningly gorgeous the food is, it’s well presented, very generous portions and beyond tasty. We then booked another holiday to Woolacombe (November) and the first thing we did was book a table to be able to revisit, we were lucky enough to catch it before it started slowing down for the end of season. Very friendly and helpful staff and a beautiful location. My new favourite restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Me and my fiancée had the most wonderful meal here. I had the cod and my partner had the sirloin and they were DELICIOUS, cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Every aspect of our visit was faultless. From the friendly service, beautiful food and stunning sunset views. We travelled 40 minutes from our hotel to dine here and it did not disappoint. I would 100% recommend.

The location is perfect. The interior is lovely, open and very nice. Welcoming service and attentive. I was really pleased with the roast beef. The vegetables were cooked beautifully, and there was a big range such as parsnips, cabbage swede, Cauliflower cheese, peas, carrots and green. Garlic was a lovely touch for the beef. The only downfall I would say would be the roast potatoes were a little too hard to cut and therefore eat. The options were really good. My partner had the mixed roast dinner and I tried the belly pork which was delicious. I look forward to coming back here.

Trust me – the only place to eat in Woolacombe! The Beach House does not disappoints. The food is fresh, beautifully cooked, and full of flavour. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and make you feel right at home. We’re already planning to come back for their Sunday roast — can’t wait!

Visited this place for the first time in years. I remember when it was a cafe 20 years ago. It’s been a number of different food offers and now a cool little restaurant. Didn’t really know what to expect, but was blown away by how lovely the whole experience was. Really friendly staff. Nice drinks selection. Menu is focussed and that’s a good sign - they do good food and chose their ingredients carefully. I had a few oysters to start. They were amazing- so much better than others I’ve had locally. My family stole some of them (they don’t normally like oysters!). Also had some bread and aioli - really good garlic hit. Mains - the others all went with the seafood linguine. It came with lots of prawns and muscles. It was excellent- the tiny amount they shared with me. I had a venison burger which was on special. And it was indeed very special. I wouldn’t normally order a burger, but I’d been surfing and was so hungry. Wonderful bacon, cheese, salad, brioche bun. Rare meat. The others demanded a bite and said they’d order that in a heart beat. It was amazing. I’d munch a load before I remembered to take a picture so sorry about the half eaten pic. Chips were also very good. If we’d more time I’d go back to try other things on the menu. Based on one visit it’s my favourite place to eat in Woolacombe now. It’s not cheap but it is good value. And much better value than some of the other places locally. I’ll review after I’ve been a few more times. Go eat there as this place deserves a visit as they are doing good stuff.

Beyond exceptional cuisine paired with stunning views and the most accommodating and warm staff. We would choose to eat here everyday if we could. Thank you for making our birthday so exceptional!! A must see for anyone visiting north Devon.

Absolutely unreal. Thank you for squeezing us in with no booking. I’ve had the hot mackerel bruschetta and the dressed crab - large portions, very tasty, definitely worth the money. Fully considering another trip down to Woolacombe for the day just to be able to eat in this place again and it’s a 3 hour drive each way for us! Great place.

We booked in for lunch on a Saturday and were really happy as it is also dog friendly. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and looked after us well. Drinks orders were taken and served quickly. All of our food was cooked to perfection and I especially enjoyed the mussels.... They were absolutely delicious! As it was our dog's birthday recently and he is getting on, we ordered him a steak. The staff offered a plastic bowl and water for him too. Highly recommend and we look forward to visiting again when we next visit Woolacombe.

We enjoyed a quick light lunch in here, food was nice and tasty, nice and friendly staff, the lady running the place was great, lovely and chatty. Gluten free options available and it was also dog friendly. Fresh fish daily specials available. Can imagine it being very busy in here in the summer.

Stopped here yesterday for a drink in the sunshine & decided to have lunch as the food being brought out looked nice. We got a drink & sat out on the raised seating area overlooking the sea which is brilliant. We ordered 4 fish & chips which looked lovely when brought out, but we were very disappointed as the fish was tasteless & mushy when cut open. It was obviously frozen fish, not fresh which we found strange being where it was situated, along with 12 chips at £15 we thought could of been alot better. Service, staff, drinks & views brilliant, but on our experience food very disappointing.

We were warned against going here, but ended up here anyway. Turns out that the warning was correct. We had jacket potatoes that were dry as flour, the fish finger sandwich (that they did refund) tasted off, the best thing was the burger, juicy and tasty. Service was reasonable and the atmosphere was enjoyable, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend the food. Thatcher’s hazy was very nice though.

Ordered the chicken Goujons and dirty beans, nothing dirty about the can of Tesco beans and the chicken was plain tasteless battered chicken, Tescos Goujons are better, sloppy burger had cold chilli, fish and chips had brown peas and another burger meant to have halloumi but had chicken instead, onion rings were soggy and tasteless. Would not recommend at all, avoid at all cost basic menu not even done right. McDonald’s cooks are better then there so called chefs

Visited around 6ish on Saturday and was told no capacity for food despite there being seating. Could see that the staff were looking a bit stressed though. Went into the bar and had some drinks, the bar staff were really nice and welcoming, and one of the ladies working there helped introduce my daughter to the pub cats. Nice place!

Just eaten here with my family. Excellent staff/service. Basic menu but the food looked and tasted homemade, 3 of us had burgers and they were delicious. My youngest has a severe sesame allergy and the catered above and beyond for this. Thanks

If I could give 10 stars out of 5 I would! By far our favourite meal in woolacombe! We had dinner here in june, and a few drinks in the outside area (a few times!) Prawns to start which were seriously maybe the best I have ever had :) Lobster was on the specials, and I was worried about how to eat it so I asked the friendly waiter who assured me the staff would help if I got stuck! The lobster was beautiful and although I didn't actually need help the wonderful people working there checked in with me :) My friends meals were also excellent! Drinks outside also recommended; amazing views:)

So just made a phone call to the tides in regards to me asking if we could book a table! The gentleman on the phone was rude and made me feel very uncomfortable !! This has to be one of the best places to grab some food, or bask in the sun with a cold drink in Woolacombe. We have returned many times having tried most other local establishments. Bit of a wait for food when it’s busy, but the food was fantastic and reasonably priced given the location and situation. Really good vegan options and my wife still talks about the Thai curry. Also a great selection of interesting beers. Highly recommend.

We were recommended this bar by a friend and in honesty I thought from the name it might be a bit young for us, however I couldn't have been more wrong. We had fish and chips with a curry sauce delivered. Steaming hot and it was fantastic. Large fish and large chips more than enough for 2. First fish and chips since we have been down here and we have been living here for 4 months, food was fabulous portions were amazing and everything tasted fresh and not greasey. Wow we will be ordering from you again. Amazing food . Thank you

Ordered 2 x cod with 1 large chips and 1 small chips also a cheeseburger for my 6 year old. The fish was lovely along with the batter. Chips were equally as good and the large portion of chips that was served was definitely a large portion which is great! We've been to the dolphin down the road which was mediocre and this place is fantastic compared so we will definitely use maddys from now on. A brilliant fish n chip shop.

Old school chippy with some great food! I got the haddock fish and chips and it was so nice! Crispy batter and juicy fish. The chips super nice too. Fishcake very nice too. All the ladies working here are lovely and friendly. I dont understand people complaining about the price (my F&C was 13.50) when now all chippy sell it for not less of 16£, so for me the price is very fair too. Nothing to complain at all. Thank ladies ❤️

10/10!! We had a pie and fish & chips. The fish batter was perfect and cooked to perfection, light and golden brown, not too thick, with a slice of lemon. Great service, lovely people who work there. We ate in although we tend to get a takeaway and we’ll do it again. Keep up the great work!

Not a very fish and chips person but since we were by the coast we thought we'd have some nice fresh fish. Looked in Google for somewhere nice to eat and found Maddy's. Went there and didn't convince me from the outside but decided to give it a go. What a good choice!!! Best fish and chips I've ever tried, 0 oily, chips were perfect, fish was so crunchy, a lot of food so if you're hungry this is your place. The place looks a bit old but it's lovely and the waitress was so friendly. Would recommend 100%!!

The Grampus, located in Lee Bay on the north coast, is a historic 14th-century building that was once a working farm. Under new ownership as a free house, it has become popular among locals and tourists. The wine list is curated by the owner of St Cosme vineyard, and Friday nights often turn into lively music-filled gatherings due to one of the owners being a noted musician.
An absolute gem of a pub! Had the most wonderful, relaxed evening. Delicious, homemade food and large portions. Lovely, friendly staff and a beautiful beer garden. Love this pub. Had the best pint of cider here a few years ago on an epic walk and keep coming back and it doesn’t disappoint. Some good zero options as well as tasty food. A bit of a hidden gem away from the masses that descend on Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Croyde nearby. Love this area.

A short diversion from the coastal path, so I arrived on foot. You'd not notice this pub if you weren't looking for it, but you can hear the buzz from the lane so you know it's there. When you walk round the back to find a way in, you discover it's a real hive of activity. The beer is excellent, the outside seating surrounded by greenery. I fixed the wobbly table for you with a little piece of stone from your wall. Didn't eat but will return with my partner and get the ploughman's. Toilets upstairs, though small, are clean. A short walk down the lane brings you to the bay, which looks well worth investigating. I rejoined the path, and seals were spotted bathing just a short distance further on.

Loved it! Off the beaten track, a good standard of pub grub. Some quite inventive. I had a Mexican style bean chillie with nachos, very tasty. A couple of local ales on together with the usual ciders and lagers.

We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our food. I've literally never known a fish and chips shop to take so long to serve a fast food. It was all cooked and ready just sitting there whilst the staff faffed around slowly. Packaging food adding stickers etc. They didnt look like they enjoyed the job they were doing, barely any interaction with customers, no apologies for the ridiculous delay. To top it off the lettuce in my daughters burger was off and soggy (see photo). I had to replace with fresh lettuce from home. We were also missing a fruit shoot drink which I'd paid for. Hard to understand how this could happen as i saw them checking things over with about 2 staff!! Furthermore my wives large cod was a small cod as it was a lot smaller than mine but the same size of my sons which was a small/regular, also see photos. My fish tasted dry prob as it just sat out so long! Chips were chips. I couldn't recommend this place to other's and people were even walking away because of the wait as we warned them as they entered. Then they actually turned people away around 7.30pm. There are no excuses, there were 4 to 6 staff in there. There didn't seem to be a huge in flux of customers, similar to other fish and chip shops. I think management should really consider changing the way they do things, it's unacceptable. On reading this review I would appreciate a refund for the drink that you never provided and the difference between a large and regular cod.
Emilio V — Google review
Waited over 30 minutes in the pouring rain whilst the staff were too busy chatting taking their time with a whole crowd of people outside to pay £5 for a bunch of half cooked chips, lumpy gravy and a large cod (£15) which was so dry it was like it had been sat there all day. This was by far the worst chippy I have ever visited in Devon, not one to usually leave reviews but if like us visiting this area for the first time and looking for somewhere nice to try avoid this place!
Rosie D — Google review
Great fish and chips! The large is super big and great protein size. Reasonably priced. Only had to wait a few minutes.
Holly K — Google review
I recently bought scampi, chips, curry sauce and a bread cake (bread roll, teacake, whatever way you say bread!). The scampi and curry sauce was super tasty, the chips were a bit squishy and wet for my liking. But the bread cake had mould on it and was hard. It must of been sat there ages. I was so gutted as I was excited to make a chippy sarnie. I would have gone back and complained but I’d walked round to Mortehoe area to eat them so by the time I would have gone back my order would have been cold.
Jessica M — Google review
Good. Not the best chips I've ever had. But it was good and fair priced. £5.50 for a chips and cheese. Was quite fast waited around 5/10min. Have to use a touch screen for ordering with card. No seats takeaway only.

Perfect meal. A warm, friendly welcome and a lovely decorated restaurant with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The menu offers a good selection of dishes and the food on our visit was cooked to perfection and lovingly presented. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I would advise booking in advance, as during our week in Ilfracombe this restaurant was fully booked on the evenings it opens.

Went there, on a whim, for the final night of our staycation. They had just opened for the season, so when we arrived we were the only 2 customers - but this was not a negative for us. Husband and wife team. Very friendly. Nicely refined food at very good prices (imho). We both lovedour mains (Hake and Plaice) as well as the desserts (cheesecake and Chocolate Nemesis!). Highly recommend if you want better quality food than the standard fare in a lot of places.

What a fantastic little restaurant. Limited capacity and concise menu, but its none the worse for it. The food is nothing short of outstanding for the price they charge. If they were to sell their chips wrapped in newspaper out of the door there would be a queue right down the street and riund the harbour. Each of the dishes we tried were well portioned and cooked perfectly. If you can get a booking you will not be dissapointed. Well done to everyone that works there. The place is a true gem.

I’ve been to this pub a few times now with a group of eight, and it’s always been a great experience. The drinks are good value for money, and service is quick and friendly, which makes the whole visit even better. Overall, it’s a really solid pub that I’d definitely recommend for a chilled evening out.

If you love a good pint, if you want to meet nice people, if you want to experience hospitality, and, last but not least, enjoy good music, then go to the George and Dragon. We couldn't have found a better pub on our road trip through England ;-) We had so much fun. Thanks to the whole team. Cheers, Astrid and Rainer.

Just got back after a night here and moved to write a review. We went for my ex's birthday and it was the live sing-a-round music night. The staff and clientele could not have been more friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious, the pub is beautiful inside, the music was great, just the nicest place I've been to in a long long time. Could not recommend it more.

Nelly May's Parlour is a traditional tea parlour located in the lively seaside town of Ilfracombe. It is renowned for its delectable homemade scones made with organic flour and free-range eggs, served with their own freshly made jam, providing an authentic taste of North Devon. The tearoom offers a cozy atmosphere and an array of cakes and snacks to choose from, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.
A very pleasant tea room. Beautiful afternoon tea made with the freshest of ingredients. A lovely selection of fresh cakes to choose from, delicious quiche with crisp crumbly pastry, sandwiches made with fresh sour dough bread made in house and melt in your mouth scones with lashings of clotted cream. The owner was friendly and looked after us ensuring a wonderful experience. Will definitely visit when in the area again

Travelling over 200 miles to North Devon was worth it just to experience the cream tea at Nelly May’s Parlour. After an underwhelming experience at Sandleighs Tea Room, we were so overjoyed at finding and experiencing this quaint little place. The decor is interesting, warm and cosy and all covid and hygiene measures are in place and enforced. The array of wonderful cakes are home made by Nelly Mays husband as well as the warm and freshly baked scones, clotted cream and jam. They also serve proper tea in proper China. Nelly May is friendly and good for a chat but also knows how to let you savour and enjoy the delights you’ve ordered, which no doubt will leave you speechless anyway. Even the bathroom is clean and well decorated with lovely hand wash and hand cream. They really have thought of everything! I urge you, make the effort to have cream tea at Nelly May’s Parlour. Don’t go anywhere else. You won’t be sorry!

Delicious food - everything we ate was delicious. Superb cocktails - so good we drank waaay too many. Great decor - the ceiling decorations have inspired my plans for home decoration. Awesome staff - accommodated us amazingly. An Ilfracombe jewel to be appreciated. Will definitely go again. Peace.✌️

A wonderful small restaurant full of passion and a delicious and authentic menu. It would be good to see more Vegan dishes actually on the menu, but there are many dishes that can be prepared to a Vegan recipe - so there are choices - and they are prepared with love. We have had several meals here and the are always great - fantastic atmosphere and brilliant service from Hannah.

We were visiting Ilfracombe and popped in here for some dinner and loved it. A wonderful atmosphere and welcome and were made to feel like friends rather than customers. The food was wonderful, if we had the room we would have had more tapas dishes for sure! We did the next best thing and re-booked for later in the week before we went home. Loved it.

First time we tried this place and we would definitely return. We enjoyed most if the food we tried, tapas style dishes. It would have been nice if the waitress had asked, as there were 4 of us,if we would like dishes doubled up as some had 2 kebabs in and it was difficult to divide them up . Just a suggestion. It was quite busy and as one waitress was preparing drinks constantly it was difficult for the other waitress to divide her attention equally between all the tables so service was a bit spasmodic. The dishes were tasty and we will return to try others and more cocktails.

Food was excellent, and the service was great. The staff were all super friendly and had great conversation; they are really nice people who seem to enjoy working there. Understanding of allergies - I had the gluten free BBQ burger and fries and it was delicious! Gluten free bun was a good texture and didn't get soggy or fall apart. The burger itself was super juicy and tasted great. Would definitely reccomend.

Amazing find of a place! Thought it was a bit pricey till the mountains of freshly cooked food arrived at our table. We had a food allergy to contend with but the landlord was great, checking with the chef to make sure we hadn't picked unsuitable dishes. Photo is of the Korean Bbq Chicken Naan which was amazing! Staff were friendly, service was quick and the food fresh and tastey. Portions seem to be generous no matter what you order, couple next to us had salads and they were massive, the ladies jaw hit the table when served to them. Will definately be back!

We ordered from the specials board and both had the lobster and king prawn linguine in lobster and saffron sauce .Absolutely lovely food, cooked to perfection. Wonderful value as well, good portions of lobster and plentiful king prawns for £22. 95. The local puds charge almost that for fish and chips. Superb!

Nestled in the heart of Ilfracombe, The Angel is a delightful gem that captures the essence of cozy dining. With its charming and beautifully preserved interior, it offers an inviting atmosphere where guests feel right at home. The menu strikes a perfect balance, providing enough variety to satisfy any palate without overwhelming diners. Patrons rave about the exceptional service provided by the friendly staff, who are always attentive and eager to help.
I cannot emphasise enough the quality of the food and the service at The Angel. My husband and I visited Ilfracombe for our 1 year anniversary and a few weeks before, I caught wind of this place and was lucky enough to get a table for 2 on a Saturday evening. My husband is vegetarian and I am a picky pescatarian and there was plenty on the menu for both of us. The food was really delicious, home cooked but prepared and served with professional style. We absolutely loved the aesthetic of the restaurant, it's intimate and beautifully put together. It was the best table service I believe I've ever had and we even had a chat with Carol the owner/chef about Sheffield, which she knew well. Whilst I understand they are now booked up until Christmas, if you ever get the chance to go, we would highly recommend it. What. A. Find.

The best cafe in the UK I have ever been. It is so surprising that they have filter coffee on the menu, which the coffee is very nice. The environment is very nice and relaxing. People will bring their dogs to the Cafe and talk to each other. The food are very nice. The scone is very soft and the clotted cream are so creamy. Great setting on the North Devon coast. An unusual, unique theatre. It's always a thrill to go and see a variety of shows over the years. The Bar area could be a lot bigger to accommodate more oeople and the car parking is almost impossible when the theatre is full causing an anxious time riding around Ilfracombe trying to find somewhere to park. If you're seeking an extraordinary dining experience, look no further than Thomas Carr 1873 in Ilfracombe. This Michelin-starred gem, housed in a charming old Victorian police station, offers a six-course tasting menu that showcases the best of local ingredients. Chef Thomas Carr artfully crafts each dish with inspiration from the nearby harbor's fresh catch, ensuring every bite is a celebration of flavor and creativity. The restaurant provides an intimate yet relaxed atmosphere where you can savor exquisite culinary creations paired perfectly with wine.
Absolutely fabulous, phenomenal meal. We did the vegetarian tasting menu and every dish was wonderful. We had an amazing meal overall with lovely service throughout the meal. We were hesitant about heading here at first, but it absolutely lived up to the hype and was the highlight of our holiday out in Devon and Cornwall. I think it was fairly priced as well for the overall quality of the food, service, and setting. Great dining experience!

Amazing food, really lives up to the hype! Had the vegetarian tasting menu which was mind blowingly good. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbaring. Will be back again for more 🤤
Christopher E — Google review
From the moment we arrived at Thomas Carr 1873 it felt like a very special occasion. Greeted warmly into a simply but beautifully decorated set of rooms where it is immediately apparent the level of service you are about to experience with just 6 tables neatly spread. We were sat with a view of the kitchen which gave us a peak into the magic of what was to come. 6 courses beautifully designed with every mouthful a delight on the palette. My other half is unfortunately not that fond of the more oily fish and shellfish. The kitchen were incredibly accommodating to this swapping out some of the more challenging ingredients while encouraging her to try some of the less so, which she did and loved (most of). The wine list was paired back and very good value. I was driving so we opted for wine by the glass. To start the white which was deliciously crisp, then my old half had a glass of the red which was full bodied and fruity. In terms of the food, the stand out savoury dish for me was the Bass with crab, though a very close second was the mackerel made to sing with an deliciously tangy fennel and tomato salsa. My other half was blown away by the beef with, for her, pickled mushrooms and a mushroom ketchup, almost as good as mine with oyster. For desert the hot chocolate pudding was to die for, but even this was blown out of water by the final dish, a mash up between jelly and ice cream and cheesecake. All in all amazing service, and even more amazing food. If you can get in would highly recommend!
James B — Google review
A delightful and entirely delicious experience. Loved the quirky play on local seafood and the amazing service. Well worth the trip out to the Devon coast.
Faiz M — Google review
Had the 6 course taster menu which was deceptively filling! Actually 8 courses including the treats from the kitchen. Mainly seafood with one meat dish and dessert. All incredible, beautiful presentation and cooked to perfection. Staff very informative and pleasant. Very relaxed atmosphere and no table turnover. You have your table for the evening and we were there for 3 hours. Can't recommend it enough! You'll need to book well in advance as there's only 12 covers or so. Parking nearby just down the road.
Martin D — Google review
High quality, inventive cooking that is simply delicious We had an enjoyable meal at 1873, taking full advantage of the six course tasting menu. The Michelin star is well earned with chef creating and serving well cooked, inventive food that delights on all fronts. Dishes were thoughtful and original while maintaining a local, seasonal feel. The ambiance does let the venue down a bit. The space was chilly enough to warrant a scarf and there's nothing intimate about the ambiance. We opted for the wine pairing (on the six-course menu) which, truthfully, was a bit rough on the senses. Champagne served too cold (along with the white wine) and dessert wines that jarred with the flavors. The service was also a bit canned, making interactions seem rehearsed. Our table was made from some kind of laminate (to wipe clean) and we were given paper napkins. Silverware was delivered to us with each course but not set properly, just being left on the side of the table. Overall, the food was worth the visit but, for the price, front of house needs a bit more work to make everything seem more fluid and polished.
Michelle M — Google review
We went for the vegetarian tasting menu. Superb food beautifully presented and delicious. Wine choice good too. Waitresses very good and a pleasant atmosphere. Would love to have all the different types of crockery! Great artwork on the walls and love the paint colours. Such a treat for a vegetarian to have exciting and different food. Any spare stuffed peppers can be sent my way.
Yvonne O — Google review
We ate the six course tasting menu with paired wines. To put this restaurant in context I would say it's good but just a little away from great. The meal started with bread and butter which although nice was lacking in body and any real complexity. As the dishes went on the skill of the chef became clear. The food is well thought out with Chris's Dish being my favourite (emulating an English Breakfast), even there though I have little gripes. The egg is clearly sous vide and the texture of the joke just failed to remind you of the greasy spoon fried egg. Along with that was the appearance of a salami cup to hold the ketchup (which was very nice). Salami has no place in a English breakfast, maybe make the cup from streaky bacon, then my mind in convinced it's breakfast. Similar appearances happened in other dishes, popcorn on me venison, just didn't work. Overall a very pleasant experience but not exceptional, which is a shame because the chef is obviously very good. One last note is that the restaurant was very cold on the night we ate there. It probably isn't normally but I was freezing through the whole meal

While this cafe could do with a lick of paint, it serves the most comforting full English breakfast by the sea. We’ve just had the best burgers since we can remember! We went for a Sloppy Joe and a Philly Cheese. They were juicy, fresh, the bun held it all in and the flavour was on point. It was cooked with love for sure! Honestly if your around ilfracombe don’t miss these guys 🤙🏼

Good quality of food, generous portions and cheaper than other places. Staff in friendly. What else do you want?

10/10 highly recommend this place. We first went here when it originally opened and have been back every time we are in the area… the guy who owns it knows what he is doing when it comes to food! The beef burger is absolutely amazing, we have this with cheese and bacon and the fries we always get with halloumi! The prices here are amazing for what you get and 100% worth the wait as it’s made fresh - go give this a go, you won’t be disappointed!

Very quick service for a Friday night - I can't even express how nice the food was! I often think food looks way better on reviews than it actually tastes so it was a nice surprise that the food here tasted way better than it looked (and it looked so good 🤤). It was lush to take it up to the cliff and look at the sea. Dinner with a view.

Came here with my boyfriend. Great service and even better food. The burgers were amazing. Had the Sloppy Joe burger and it was perfect.

Restaurant
Larkstone Cafe Bar is a versatile spot that caters to various needs throughout the day. Whether you're in for a quick snack, a hearty meal, or just drinks, this place has got you covered. The venue offers breathtaking views of the sea from both its garden and restaurant, creating a serene atmosphere for visitors. Moreover, it's a family-friendly place where kids can enjoy various activities like go-karts and trampolines while adults can savor live music performances.
Best play area the kids have ever been too. Food really good and cheaper than most places in the area. Just need google maps to take you to proper car park and not the disabled parking
Steve H — Google review
An absolute hidden gem in Ilfracombe. Fabulous food, attentive staff. A beautiful park for the children to play that is safe, swings climbing frame, go carts, a little boat for the kids to be creative. A new addition recently for the younger (toddlers) to play. A fantastic location to watch the sunset. Weekends with live bands and DJs. Highly recommend

Had another lovely meal here. The new owners have made a really nice place to eat and drink. Was lovely to sit in the rose garden with the sun shining. Plenty of space and friendly management and staff. Car parking and dog friendly.
Susan C — Google review
On a very hot day we stopped here for lunch, ordered a pizza and one pizza is plenty for two people, has improved a lot,the outdoor was lovely with plenty of shade, friendly welcoming service.
Veronica H — Google review
Two reasons to come here: the sunset with a glass of wine, or the blissful quiet while your children disappear into the play area. Otherwise, best avoided. The food isn’t awful, just the sort of frozen fare you’d expect to find lurking at the back of a budget supermarket. And for the privilege, you’ll pay quite an ambitious price …
Ekaterina C — Google review
This place has had a lovely refurbishment so well worth a visit. Loads for kids to do outside, pool table inside and ample seating in door and out. Looks a great venue for events too.
G N — Google review
What a great family experience - we come here to meet our friends, the kids can play on the multiple options. Go karts, sunken trampoline, climbing frames, grass space. All within the space and clearly marked out area. Recently we went for live music and we weren't disappointed - this place has become and will continue to be a great space for DJs, bands and performances. The marquee, is a great addition and the new trailer has improved waiting time for drinks, queuing for food. The food is good, bar food, simple. The view for sunset is stunning and will continue to be a lovely part of the venue. At busy times, an additional toilet or two will be great. But overall Ilfracombe is enjoying Larkstone bar and cafe. I am a local.
Sam C — Google review
The setting is wonderful. Staff very friendly. Food... We had a buffet for 4 children and 5 adults. £12 per child. £18 per adult. What we had was definitely not worth what we paid. I do have a photo of the buffet. Also we were never asked when we would like the food so when the children had finished playin, the chips and nuggets were cold

Chocolate shop
Ilfracombe Chocolate Emporium is a delightful destination in North Devon that offers a fascinating chocolate-making workshop, providing an opportunity to unleash your creativity and gain insights into the production process. This charming establishment also doubles as a museum, where visitors can explore the rich history of chocolate. The friendly and helpful staff gladly answer any queries from both adults and children alike. The chocolate itself is truly exceptional, boasting both incredible taste and quality.
I ordered the Rum and Raisin chocolates for my husband for our wedding anniversary. The service was amazing and the delivery actually arrived early as they had gone to the trouble of getting the parcel posted before the weekend. The chocolate arrived beautifully packaged with Happy Anniversary packaging and a lovely handwritten note wishing us a happy anniversary. The chocolate was absolutely amazing. The flavour and texture was just stunning - I cannot describe how good it was. My only regret was not ordering double! I will definitely be ordering again and again.

Amazing shop, divine chocolates and a really interesting museum. I can not recommend doing one of the chocolate classes highly enough! The place to start class was AMAZING! It was so interesting learning how chocolate is made and grown. And trying all the different types of chocolates was my personal highlight! It was great getting to try so many different types of chocolate and I even found a new favourite! The owner was so knowledgeable and such a lovely person! She made the class so engaging, welcoming and feel like a safe space to ask all our chocolate related questions and slightly messy looking creations! I can not recommend the classes here highly enough it was an absolutely amazing experience! If we are ever in the area again I will 100% go back! A MUST VISIT!

Visited on Saturday 30th August, we were welcomed into the shop like friends. We chose different chocolates to suit our own taste, and every one was special; the outer chocolate casing snapped so nicely ( just how they talk about tempered chocolate on the cookery programmes), and none of the fillings disappointed us. Well worth the cost.
Wendy S — Google review
Visited the shop when on holiday, as others have said a proper little gem. My husband then ordered me chocolates several months later for our anniversary- they are simply beautiful, they genuinely looked too good to eat. So much care and skill, and of course are completely delicious!
Mandy F — Google review
What a great little shop! When waking down Ilfracombe high street we stumbled across this shop and WOW! When we entered we were greeted by a lovely lady who explained a few bits to us.. then we were spoken to by another lady (who we think May own it) and she was also very polite… she said to us we could walk into the back and see the ‘chocolate museum’ and where it’s made which was really nice! The varieties of chocolate they have is never ending and there is something for everyone! I would say it’s slightly on the more expensive side but you get what you pay for.

Stopped off to try the Hot Chocolate, only on Thursdays, WOW! This is Willy Wonkas Chocolate river come true. It was heaven, definitely have another. Best Hot Chocolate I've had for a long time.

We are currently staying in Ilfracombe for a few days and today we discovered this wonderful shop, absolutely spotless and the ladies working there were so kind and helpful and friendly, and even helped me with the steps and the exit.Best bit is we treated ourselves to the the most delicious chocolate ( my sister insisted on taste testing and as expected it is divine) (ps I'm diabetic and they make "safe"chocolate)So we are delighted. The Nutella chocolates are my wife’s favourites. I was emailed to say that they would arrive in about a week, when I replied to mention they were for Mother’s Day Jeannette rushed them out in 2 days. Thank you, your a star.

Coffee shop
Art gallery
Hand:plant is a charming cafe, gift shop, and exhibition space in North Devon that offers beautiful crafts, jewelry, plants, and local artwork. The highlight of this place is the delicious food, particularly the hearty and flavorful soups served with homemade bread. The owner Mel is known for her warm hospitality and delicious vegan offerings including butternut squash soup, vegan cakes, and muesli bars. Visitors also appreciate the eclectic mix of local arts and crafts available for purchase.
Authentic and honest! Chilled background music, a mix of both Reggae and Ska. Coffee was on point, our daughters smoothie was both refreshing and full of flavour (banana, mango and pineapple) in no way over powering with sweetness and you could taste each layer of fruit in its own right. The soup being served to the next table looked and smelt amazing. But what made it for me was the carrot cake. Next level. Honestly. You wouldn't have even known it was completely vegan. That was a serious piece of carrot cake! The shop itself has a real chilled vibe, displaying some really cool pieces of art from local artists and if you have a green thumb you can even buy plant cuttings to take home, nuture and grow yourself. The service was friendly and genuine and there was nothing generic about our experience which makes hand:plant a must stop if you are visiting the area. Bring a book, put some headphones in, or just sit with great company and pass some time getting to know the owners. We will definitely back, next time we are in the area! 💚✌🏻🪴

Delicious vegan dahl & home made bread for lunch at hand:plant earlier today. Worth traveling from Cardiff on Waverley to remind myself it was as good as it was last year. Mel, keep on doing what you're doing - it's spot on!
Rob B — Google review
Hand:plant is an absolute gem in Ilfracombe! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The café’s commitment to organic, vegan-friendly food is evident in every bite, with dishes that are not only delicious but also nourishing. The spinach and dahl soup with homemade bread was simply outstanding—rich, full of flavor, and packed with wholesome ingredients. The butternut squash soup was equally delightful, and the fact that the bread is freshly baked without additives makes it even better. Their selection of vegan cakes and muesli bars is a real treat, perfect alongside their fresh, expertly brewed coffee. The friendly and welcoming owner, Mel, adds a personal touch to the experience, making every visit special. Beyond the food, Hand:plant is also a fantastic space for discovering local arts and crafts, making it more than just a café—it’s a community hub. With its cozy ambiance, excellent food, and thoughtful details, this is a must-visit spot. Highly recommended!

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel very welcome in this lovely, friendly cafe. We got coffees, some sweet treats, and smoothies and were really impressed by the quality — at rational prices too! The local art and plants for sale really give this place a nice atmosphere. Great value, great coffee, great service. Highly recommend!

Absolutely lovely little place. We popped in today on the last day of our holiday. The couple who own the place were so lovely and friendly. One of the nicest places we've been to on holiday and they did one of the nicest oat matcha lattes I've ever had. Thank you to both of you!
Rebecca B — Google review
A relaxed atmosphere adds to the amazing homemade food, and quite frankly stupendous coffee (I'm fussy -it was great) we opted for fully vegan and were not disappointed. The hostess (sorry I forget your name, Mel?) was informative about sourcing her raw ingredients, processes (homemade bread imparticular) and local community. I loved this place if I weren't living 100 + miles away Id be here every day

What a lovely find! Beautiful friendly cafe on Ilfracombe high street, a really relaxed atmosphere and incredibly nice owners. The homemade cakes are delicious and the smoothies will make you feel better no matter what ails you. AND there's loads of local art to browse. Come in for coffee and you'll leave with a picture. Big thumbs up, we'll be back--thanks guys!!

Great little deli , and shop for quality local produce Coffee is delicious , the best sausage rolls we have ever tasted and lots of other savoury and sweet treats available . Delicious baguettes freshly made to order, will definitely return every time we visit Ilfracombe. Definitely a 5✨gem of a find.

Isobel and Mark catered an unbelievably delicious brunch for us on the morning of our wedding. When we first walked in to Dinki Deli we were immediately greeted by both of them. They both radiate nothing but joy and love for what they do! Isobel then went on to tell us about her incredible past in the events industry and what they could do for us. We were immediately sold. The contact was so lovely, we kept wanting to go back into their little shop just for a quick chat. Every time we left the shop we instantly felt happier. The food they catered was incredible. There was something for everyone, and everyone kept going on about how delicious everything tasted. We couldn’t have been any happier. Even my nervous stomach couldn’t resist the delicious treats 🥰 overall we are just beyond grateful to have met these two! I am not sure how we would have catered brunch for 37 people without them. We can’t recommend them enough to any wedding couple getting married in Ilfracombe or just for a quick coffee or sandwich.
Elina W — Google review
We were recommended the Dinki Deli so made the trip to Ifracombe so we could pop in. Loved the welcome and the range of products. Great service. We got some lovely food for ourselves and picked up a few locally produced food gifts for family. We would recommend and will be popping back to restock. Thank you.

We chanced upon this lovely deli yesterday while on a day trip from Bristol. Thank goodness we did, the filled baguettes were probably the best we've ever had, simply delicious and highly recommended 😋 The husband and wife team who run Dinki Deli are extremely friendly and very helpful with advice on local produce, so much so we bought some delicious treats to sample at home. Thank you both. We hope to return the next time we're in Ilfracombe.

My girlfriend and I visited Ilfracombe for the bank holiday weekend and we found this little gem on our first day. The owners were very welcoming and their baguettes were fantastic. They even gave us recommendations on where it was best to sit and enjoy the views with our baguettes. We enjoyed them so much that we went back another two times instead of going out for lunch. We would highly recommend them and based on the service and quality of food, we know their business will continue to be a success.

We were visiting Ilfracombe for the day and saw a small deli. We popped in for a mocha and a hot chocolate. The two owners were in store. Both were lovely and all the produce was local. The store was super cute and the service was top notch. Love to see a local business being operated so well. Would recommend a visit. 👌

Couldn’t resist popping in here after my walk from Combe Martin. I was very restrained and just ordered a tea as it was late afternoon. I know it’s just a tea, but honestly it was soo delicious! Apart from the obviously good quality Exmoor tea they stock, it was the organic milk I believe that made all the difference. You can really tell the difference between quality local milk and big standard non-organic. This was tasty and lush!! Ever-so friendly service too :) Hope to return!

Fabulous Deli in Ilfracombe. Went in to grab some food for our journey home. Ordered a couple of freshly prepared baguettes…ham, cheese and runner bean chutney. They were absolutely delicious. We ate them in Greg’s car park on the A303! Really friendly owners said that all the products they sell are locally produced in Devon. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
