Middle Eastern restaurant
Falafel restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Falafel's Drive-In is an iconic spot in San Jose, known for its delicious Middle Eastern fare and unpretentious atmosphere. Established in 1966, this charming drive-in restaurant offers a mix of healthy and tasty Middle Eastern dishes alongside American classics like burgers and hot dogs. The menu features a variety of falafel options, including wraps with hummus and tabouleh, as well as meat-based dishes like gyros and kebabs.
Second time here. I don't want to overstate it but this place is amazing! It's "just" falafel but it's this incredible soul food or home cooking goodness that's hard to explain but you will understand when you taste it. The workers are so nice and friendly. PS banana milkshake! 🙌🏼🙏🏻🔥 PPS, my pictures don't do it justice. Just imagine a freshness flavor bomb! 💥😋

It was a first time for us. We got the famous Banana shake with Falafel sandwich. It came with very little lettuce and tomatoes was hoping for some cucumbers and more of the good sauces, but sadly no. We all got shakes and the banana and chocolate shakes were on hit. We all said we would go back just for the shakes! French fries and onion rings were yum. Iced tea was awesome too. Loved the flavor. Soda was on point too.

Really lovely experience here! It felt as though we were transported back into the 60's. Very reasonable prices, an efficient ordering system, and delicious food. Totally recommended!
Jake B — Google review
I hadn't been back here in a year or two so i visited today. my order was a gyro pita, pita chips, and a banana shake. the banana shake was fantastic as always. but man, the gyro was totally unseasoned!! I finally got one or two pieces that had some seasoning and it tasted great but most of them had no flavor, and so the sandwich itself was incredibly boring. I remember there used to be a more adequate amount of seasoning. I also used to love getting the chips to share with friends or family. the ones i got today were all extremely chewy and tough. none of them tasted fresh or freshly fried with a crisp texture. ended up tossing half the basket. they really tasted like stale pitas that had been reused by frying them. i also got some grizzle while eating them that tasted less like seasoning and more like particles of sand. not sure what's going on, maybe a bad day?

Let me tell you about a Silicon Valley gem that's been serving up happiness since 1965 - Falafel's Drive In, a San Jose institution founded by Anton and Zahie Nijmeh in 1966 and co owned by the incredible Jack Nijma (pictured) and his siblings. This isn't just another restaurant; it's a place where memories are made and friendships are formed over some of the most mouthwatering Middle Eastern cuisine you'll ever taste. I first discovered this culinary treasure back in '91 during my days at Lam Research, and I've been hooked ever since. There's something magical about watching first-timers take their first bite - that moment when their eyes light up and they realize they've just found their new favorite spot. What makes Falafel's Drive In special isn't just their incredibly crispy falafel or their perfectly seasoned hummus (though trust me, they're worth the trip alone). It's the warm welcome you get from the staff, the familiar faces of regulars who've been coming here for decades, and that wonderful old-school drive-in atmosphere that takes you back to a simpler time. If you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and service that makes you feel like family, swing by Falafel's Drive In. After all, there's a reason this place has been a local favorite for 6 decades - some things just get better with time.

I've been coming here for over 20 years and hands down the best falafel restaurant in the bay area. I cannot even find a similar place up in the Sacramento area. I usually spend $30-50 each visit. My recent visit they must've had a new guy making falafels because my small was considerably smaller than usual with part of the bread missing. Other than that. They're great and the family is very welcoming. William retired but he was my goto and high energy.
S D — Google review
Falafel was AMAZING!! Sorry that the pictures don't show how good it tastes, lol! I'm glad I found this place after watching a tiktok review. However, I'm sad to be just learning about it after being in the Bay area for a year and a half. I will be back!!

I really don't know what all the hoopla is all about at falafels drive in in San Jose, California. Yes it was covered by Guy Fieri on Diners drive-ins and dives, but personally I've had better Gyros. I'll review those at a later date. To me the meat in my falafel was just not seasoned well. It was moist, the fillings, I think they used yogurt was bland and do not lend to the pita bread. The fries were crispy and good tasting. It was ok, but i would not go out of the way to come here. I remember when it was a snow white hamburger drive in.

Ethiopian restaurant

Restaurant
Zeni Restaurant offers a unique dining experience for adventurous food enthusiasts. The colorful Ethiopian spot allows diners to sit on the floor and eat with their hands, providing an authentic cultural experience. The menu features traditional Ethiopian dishes such as alitcha wot, gomen besiga, quanta firfir, and ye-timatim fit fit. Despite the intimidating names of the dishes, the flavors and spices are sure to impress.
There are very few ethiopian restaurants in bay area and this place is the only one that stands out. They have a whole vegetarian friendly menu options. The food was flavorful, perfectly spiced. Went with family for very late lunch and there was no line, got the table and service was fast.
Rexety — Google review
My first experience eating Ethiopian food. Good service, the food was flavorful. I couldn't rate it 5 stars because I don't have anything to compare it to. Nice cozy spot. The appetizer was delicious and flaky. The food was hot and fresh we had some sort of ground beef and a chopped beef along with some chicken all were good. We also had greens which were just ok to me. . I'll come back. Many more options i want to try.
April — Google review
I visit Zeni regularly for their authentic Ethiopian food. Usually I order the veg or meat combo and lamb and that easily feeds a group of 3-4 people. The food tastes consistently fresh and flavorful and I love to bring friends here for the family-style dining experience. Occasionally I'll encounter a wait during peak hours, but it's never been longer than 15 minutes.

Highly recommend this place. This may look like ‘a hole in the wall’, but once you are there, it will provide you fabulous dining experience Ethiopian way, beginning with a warm welcome. To fully enjoy this experience, highly recommend eating with your hands, although it is not a requirement there. We (3) enjoyed our late Sunday lunch here. Helen welcomed us. We were new to Ethiopian dining, so asked her to help us order. We ordered Meat Combo (Minced beef, Lamb stew, Chicken stew), a Beef sizzler and red lentils stew. Food arrived quickly— a large round steel plate with a thin fluffy pancake-like bread (Injera). Injera tastes a bit sour, appears light, but is deceptively heavy. They served various items ordered in small portions along the periphery of the plate on the Injera. Additional rolls of Injera were provided (and replenished as needed). Greek style salad was served at center and Ethiopian fresh cheese (like crumbled Feta, but not sour) on the side. We enjoyed eating with our hands—sanitize them first. The meat stews were absolutely delicious, but beef sizzler with caramelized onions was our favorite. They serve good portions. Needless to say, we had to box the leftovers 😋. We will explore other Ethiopian restaurants, but will definitely visit Zeni again. Thanks Helen for a great experience.

I have NEVER been to an Ethiopian restaurant that I didn't like. This was the first one. Ethiopian food is one of my favorite foods and even when I'm traveling internationally, I always crave it and find one. I just moved to this area and decided to check this one out and ordered the beef tibs as I normally do. All I could taste was cumin. It was too strong and overpowering. The beef was also not marinated properly as it was flavorless in the middle. It was also very chewy and hard to swallow. On top of that, out of the 50 or so different Ethiopian restaurants I've been to in the last few years, I have never seen one that doesn't offer a salad with it. This dish was $25 + tax + tip. There are quite a lot of Ethiopian restaurants nearby so I will be checking them out instead.
Caroline — Google review
I have been going to Zeni for atleast 18 years but 2as so disappointed by my last visit. The quantity in a serving had dropped, the food is not worth the cost and so many of the favorites are no longer on the combo. The service used to be laid back now it is disinterested and painfully slow. The two orders each of the veg and non veg combos arrived at different time and was not worth the $60+ each was. I used to love this place and judged every other Ethiopian restaurant against this one because of how good their food was now it is my least favorite of the options out there.
G R — Google review
We have been wanting to try this place for a while and it was worth the wait. I’ve never had Ethiopian food before, but this was a great experience with many different flavors and options. The Sambussa was especially delicious. The only complaint was that the bread was cold. Maybe this is normal, but we took some home and warmed it for a much better experience.

Edit: Guess who came back again??? lol we love this place — I’ve come here with my partner and others several times since my first review and I’ve gotten used to the food and it’s great every time. Also consistent. So raising the review here. I can’t seem to figure out what each item is called but I like the sweetish green lamb/beef dish and some of the vegetable ones. The others i have come here with also say that the food is great. — First time having Ethiopian food, I wasn’t sure what to expect but have been told it’s pretty hit or miss for most people. Restaurant was super busy around dinner time. The bread used for the side dishes is spongey and sour. It was a pretty unique for me, especially considering l have a sweet tooth. We put meats and side dishes in the bread and ate it that way. Definitely interesting trying the flavors of the bread alone and the side dishes alone. There isn’t any table ware as far as I know, but after a while the bread was pretty overpowering for me. Overall, quite tasty and very filling. Looking forward to coming back here again.

Haute French restaurant
Modern French restaurant
Le Papillon, an upscale and elegant restaurant established in 1977, offers a contemporary French menu complemented by an extensive selection of over 500 wines. The restaurant is renowned for its fine French cuisine, exceptional service, and luxurious atmosphere. Guests can indulge in the exquisite tasting menu featuring delicacies such as red deer loin with huckleberry reduction, golden chanterelle mushrooms, and Alaskan spot prawn crudo.
This was the best dining experience for me in 2 years! The quality of the dishes were phenomenal, while the price is just right, not like those overpriced Michelin restaurants. Attentive but not overly disturbing service. Great lighting and atmosphere. Waiters are professional at answering questions about each course. The dishes i would highly recommend are: the crab meat soufflé, the butternut squash soup, the sea bass!
Thunder Z — Google review
We made reservations to celebrate a birthday dinner. There were initially three for the dinner and we had forgotten to call to add a fourth member. We arrived to the restaurant and they were extremely kind about the additional member and assisted us with no issues! We were able to sit in a more private area away from the main dining- which was perfect for our family group. The waiters were some of the friendliest people throughout the night! Personally, I’d never had the experience of a French restaurant before and it did not disappointment! The food was phenomenal! Each course was put together so beautiful and the lamb rack was some of the best lamb I had had for quite some time. If you’re in the area and you’re looking for a nice French restaurant- do not hesitate to come here! If I could give 10/5 stars; I would!
Jennifer A — Google review
I first came here in Y2K. The tech giant we were working with wanted to come here. I didn't know the area nor the caliber of the restaurant. Fortunately for me our company paid for the meal. We have returned to Le Papillon on and off all these years. They do not change the menu much. We went with one 3 course and one 4 course prix fixe. Don't let the number fool you. We were both stuffed by the time we were done. Service, as it should be, was top notch. Unfortunately the halibut was really bland. It felt as if they forgot to season the fish. Sea bass was excellent. Make sure you order the souffle. They do not allow mixing prix fixe with tasting. I don't understand why. Perhaps I am not at the level to understand the reason behind it. Wouldn't it make sense to let patrons taste as many of the restaurant's creations to 'expand our horizon?' While I know tasting menu typically takes much longer to go through, if the guests are going to share the food, I think there are ways to pace it for the table. Perhaps I'm a bit naive on how they operate in the back.

Le Papillon in San Jose offers a wonderful fine dining experience that combines excellent service, beautifully prepared dishes, and a warm, elegant atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. They were attentive without ever being intrusive, striking just the right balance between professionalism and friendliness. It set the stage for a truly enjoyable evening. The food itself was fantastic. Every dish was presented with care and precision, and the flavors were both refined and memorable. The rack of lamb stood out as one of the highlights — tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked exactly as it should be. Each bite was rich and satisfying. For dessert, we tried the Grand Marnier soufflé, and it was absolutely delightful: light, airy, and paired perfectly with fresh berries and cream. It was a beautiful way to end the meal and one that I would happily order again on my next visit. The atmosphere inside Le Papillon is intimate and inviting. It feels special without being pretentious, making it a great choice for celebrating an occasion or simply enjoying a high-quality meal. The dining room is elegant and quiet, which added to the overall sense of ease and comfort. Overall, Le Papillon deserves every bit of its strong reputation. With exceptional food, attentive service, and a charming setting, it easily earns five stars. I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in the Bay Area.
Angela S — Google review
Absolutely loved the experience! The food was delicious and the service was top-notch. Our waiter was professional, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which made the evening extra special. My family and friends all had a wonderful time. Truly a local gem—highly recommended! Be aware this elegant place has dress code. I did not know and a bit embarrassed myself. Glad the manager still treat me with great respect.
Ken — Google review
Had a wonderful mid-week dinner at Le Papillon with Nicky and Kristen. We ordered the tasting menu, which came with a few extra bites from the kitchen. The highlights: • Chilled poached lobster with corn custard, kumquat, and caviar – silky and balanced. • Maryland soft shelled crab – crisp, delicate, and flavorful. • Rabbit terrine – my personal favorite, though Kristen’s least, earthy and refined. • Breast of pheasant with confit fig, pine nut, and Madeira jus – a great balance of sweet and savory. • Tenderloin of bison with green peppercorns and tempura enoki mushrooms – bold, tender, and beautifully presented. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the pacing of the menu made the evening feel relaxed and special. Overall, a thoughtful seasonal menu and a great spot for a fine dining experience in San Jose.
Stephanie L — Google review
Le Papillon catered our wedding in August 2024, and they ended up being one of our favorite parts of the entire day. At our tasting, we were warmly welcomed by Mike, the owner, and Tamera, the catering director. Mike took the time to chat with us, and his passion for food and French cuisine really came through; it made the whole experience even more enjoyable and we knew instantly we wanted to book them. You know that feeling when you can’t decide between two entrées at a wedding? With Le Papillon, your guests won’t have to. They offer duet entrées, which meant my wife and I each got to pick our favorites; Roasted Chilean Sea Bass for her, Filet Mignon for me. Both were a huge hit, and we even had guests tell us the food was their favorite part of the wedding. They also seriously saved the day when our liquor vendor unexpectedly went out of business. Le Papillon stepped in last-minute to take care of both food and drinks, matched the original vendor’s pricing and drink list, and helped us avoid a big headache. We highly recommend them as a wedding caterer—and we’re already planning a visit back to the restaurant for another round of that sea bass and filet mignon.
Andrew C — Google review
Le Papillon has been our go-to special occasion fine dining restaurant for over 20 years. They are consistently EXCELLENT - the atmosphere is calm and relaxed, the service is top-notch, and they really go out of their way to make sure you feel welcome and satisfied with your dining experience. We usually have the chef's tasting menu, and unlike some Michelin-starred restaurants we've sampled, there are never any "clunkers" on the list. All the ingredients are fresh and handled with obvious great care. Make sure to get the Souffle Grand Marnier for dessert (they will sub it in for the tasting menu dessert option which is always good but has to live in the shadow of that divine souffle) - I don't know how they get such good berries in December, but they are always wonderful.

Caribbean restaurant
Back A Yard Caribbean Grill is a popular restaurant located in downtown San Jose, with additional locations in Menlo Park and Capitol Expy. The eatery is known for its authentic Jamaican comfort food, including jerked chicken, oxtail, and pork served with sides like corn festivals. Customers praise the generous portions and reasonable prices. The menu also features Jamaican specialties such as curried goat, plantains, coconut rice and beans, and honey-sweet festivals.
Back A Yard is my favorite spot! Their food is ALWAYS on point. I’ve tried several items from the menu and everything was so flavorful and delicious. If you’re lucky to order on a Wednesday, you must try their brown chicken stew. It was life changing for me! I also love their oxtails and curry chicken. I recommend getting the corn festivals if you are getting an entree in a gravy — they are perfect for mopping up flavorful sauces! I’ve also tried their corn bread, beef patty, collard greens, and mac and cheese. Everything is sooo good! You can’t go wrong at Back A Yard!

Back A Yard is a must try. Service was good & fast, food was delicious. They have limited outdoor seating. It does get busy sometimes because it's next to the university. Definitely check them out if you want a taste of the Caribbean

I ordered via UberEats. I was pleasantly surprised with the oxtails. While they were too fatty for my taste, the flavor was 🔥 The guava pineapple juice was 🔥 as well. The jerk chicken that came with the oxtails was extremely dry. I'm not sure how this happened as both my pieces were dark meat. The pineapple upside down cake was okay. Overall I think I'd order again if I was in town and skip the chicken and cake.
Felice — Google review
The food was really good. I was not a fan of some of the desserts. The only thing I wished was, the rice came with some sort of sauce on it. It was slightly dry for me. I know you can purchase extra sauce but that’s just me personally!!! OHH the Sangrias are amazing. Other than that I’ll def come back!

Hell yeah The plates are heavy and delicious. The curried goat slaps and the ox tail is always so tender. Great cooking and great menu options.

On Saturday night we waited over 30 minutes for our order although the salmon was nicely cooked but the rice and plantains were warm at all. I also order two key lime pies and they were not inside my bag. I called today several times to tell them and telephone was not answered.

Back A Yard on San Carlos St, San Jose. Within the SJSU neighborhood. A nice place with no seating inside, 4 tables outside the store gives that home feeling of having a BBQ in your own backyard. I’m glad i ordered the Oxtails plate, the dish came with Rice and Beans and d Plantains on the side, the Jerk seasoning was a sweet and tangy blend with a smoky allspice aftertaste. The stew was mildly hot, the Beans and Rice were mixed together with coconut notes at the end, the plate was served with sweet Fried Plantain, a good size meal. I had a side of Collard Greens, the chop leaves were steamed hot with a slightly bitter taste.
Emilio — Google review
Had pork and chicken. Meat was cooked perfectly. Texture and flavor. The jerk isn't as spicy as I remember it though. Also a little salty. Still great favor though. Staff was nice. Atmosphere is as you would expect it to be. A "hole in a wall" unassuming little place with 3 tables outside. Beautiful bay weather on a Sunday when traffic is low, perfect.

Restaurant
Henry's World Famous Hi-Life is a popular sports bar and steakhouse in San Jose, known for its lively atmosphere and delicious pub-grub staples. With over 60 years of history, it has become a go-to spot for sports enthusiasts looking to catch a game while enjoying casual rustic indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant offers authentic barbecue fare, featuring slow-smoked meats cooked over oak wood, including tender ribs, brisket, chicken, and sausages.
Henry’s high Life is a San Jose historical staple of the community! They have some great barbecue, steaks, and prime rib. Pretty much you’re not going to leave here hungry and likely with a little leftovers. The prime rib is super tasty, especially the saltiness around the edges, and very moist. Love it. But my favorite of all time here are the baby back ribs. They are cooked to perfection with a perfectly textured outer cage, and falling off the bone meat. March that with their sauces and you’re in heaven! And while not a headliner, their garlic bread is delicious as well. Soaked in garlic and butter and goes so well with your meat! Have a drink at the bar, watch the games on the TVs, and just relax. They have a unique ordering style. You arrive you get a number and you order your food. Then you wait in the bar. Then after some time they’ll seat you. You get a salad and the garlic bread. Then just a few minutes later, your meat comes out. Super friendly staff.
G L — Google review
Their check-in process is a bit unusual, but make sense. When we arrive, we had to get a number. When our number was up, the host came to take our order and we continued to wait at the bar. Then when the table was ready, we got seated and the food came quickly. Unusual, but quite efficient process. I went there specifically for their prime rib. I would say it was average. The pork belly side order was very good! Their Long Island Ice tea was quite strong.
Julian L — Google review
High-quality steaks, chicken, and ribs in the little italy section of San Jose. A little different setup. Go in and take a number. Wait for your number to be called and place your order, where they'll take your name. Wait for your name to be called, and you'll be taken back to your seat. From there, the food comes fast. Note: you order from the wall, but it doesn't list everything (e.g. - Mac n' cheese, which is really good). Ribs were great. Sirloin was decent.
Tim — Google review
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (2.5/5) Henry’s World Famous Hi-Life was an okay experience overall. The ribeye was cooked perfectly to my requested temperature, but it lacked flavor. The mushrooms were a disappointment — they tasted bland and looked like they came from a can. I did appreciate their seating and service system; we were short on time before the San Jose Sharks hockey game, and our food came out surprisingly fast. Parking was convenient, which was a big plus. The ribs were tender and had a good portion size even though I only ordered half a rack. The mac and cheese had decent flavor but was a bit watery, and the baked potato was pretty standard — though I did enjoy the touch of local butter and chives. The place itself is cozy, and walking in through the bar gives you a sense of the restaurant’s long history. Prices are on the higher side considering the limited side options and the quality of the cuts. Overall, a decent spot with fast service, but not quite worth the hype.

I went here during my college days ordering the ribs, now years later I couldnt eat as much so I ordered the tri tip sandwich. We were served garlic bread and BBQ. Had a good conservation about whats in it. We sat outside because I had a dog. Our server was attentive and kind, food came out and it was big like a subway footlong. Dog loved pieces of my tri tip. When our bill came we were able to split it. Oh, times change, where my older body couldnt eat just meat. Only suggestion is a TV outside, so I can watch the game with my dog.

So the hi-life has been there my entire life and it never fails even back in the day when flooding used to be a problem they would rally and become even more awesome. Every time I come to town it's my very first stop I literally go from the airport to the Hi-Life and as always they deliver amazing food and a fabulous atmosphere with super great employees! This will continue to be in my very first stop anytime I travel into the state and back home as long as they exist 😊

One of the oldest and best barbecue places in San Jose, California hands-down it’s right next to the San Jose Sharks Arena so you could eat there and walk to the game if you like there’s also a park right there and it’s located in Little Italy. So Basically you just walk in and you take a number off the wall wait till your number is called then you order your food off the menu on the wall you wait at the bar area until they call you in like usually like five minutes depending how busy they are Friday, Saturday and Sunday are usually really busy. Just a heads up when you sit down you already have a salad waiting for you with your bread and your drinks. The food usually comes about five minutes later. The service is fast And the food is excellent and the staff there are very friendly. Highly recommended one of my favorite places to eat in San Jose.

I ordered a Burger and wasn’t satisfied because I didn’t like the flavor. The manager over heard me talking to my coworker about I wasn’t going to say anything and he brought me a rack of ribs that were phenomenal! Great place great management! Thanks for the ribs!

The French restaurant La Forêt is a charming setting in a countryside outside of San Jose. The dishes are sophisticated and often include seafood, meats, and vegetables. The menu offers both à la carte items as well as tasting menus that can range in price from $95-$225.
Came here for my birthday dinner and had a wonderful experience. We opted to sit outside by the creek which made for a lovely evening. Everything on the menu looked very good but we decided on the steam and lamb which were very delicious and the temperature on the meats were just right.

Service was great and our server took great care of my husband and I. The quail and the souffle dessert are absolute must-have when you visit this place! They also have a "I can't decide option" for dessert, which was extremely clever (I won't spoil the fun). I also appreciate the interesting variety of meat cut offered here (wild boar, elk, venison, etc.). If the meat portions were a little bigger, it would definitely be worth the price. Overall, I would label this as a classic stable and would come back!

Even the food was good I give a one star just to get your attention. I made a reservation for 2 for my birthday and left the note that one of the guests (which is me) has celiac disease and we ask for gluten free options. When we arrived nobody had idea about my request. That is fine. I asked to guide me through the menu and got an answer that almost everything on the menu is gluten free except desserts and we shouldn't worry about. We got two different tasting menus and guess what? Already on second course I'm getting tartar with toasts on the plate. I asked if it is gluten free (I had concerned as I know how gluten free bread looks like and that baguette definitely looked like gluten. I got an answer that it is gluten free, but... they need to double check. And sure it was not gluten free. Each course was delivered by different people and was difficult to track if my request is actually went to the kitchen. Next was scallop with puff pastry and I believe that some sauces were thickened by wheat flour. Nobody cared. Now I'm suffering with the reaction and can't sleep. If I could give minus 10 stars I would. You can't do that to people! That is the worst experience i ever had at such level of restaurants. And why do you ask about occasion for reservation if nobody even said me happy birthday while i herad that there was no problem to say it to other guests? Service minus 10.

Bread and butter was pretty mid. Cocktails are classic and the after dinner coffee was pretty mid. Entrees are filling and the meat is high quality. The rice pilaf was so incredibly salty and almost inevitable because of the salt . Service was just slow and they had forgotten two different drink orders at two different times. We had brought a cake and they lost our little toppers for it. Outside patio is pretty and romantic. I recommend getting a patio seat if possible. inside is nice too but can get a bit noisy.

This was my first time experiencing dinner at La Forêt. La Foret offers a very nice dining experience. Our group had varied offerings, including the tasting menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the prawns, and they were good. I also had the shrimp salad with butter lettuce. It was very refreshing. I also had the "I can't decide" dessert platter. I suggest skipping this and just choosing a dessert. The creme brulee was delicious. The restaurant is a bit off the beaten path, but it is a very cool concept. If you're in the area, I would suggest giving it a try.

I couldn't have asked for a more magical experience. The food was phenomenal!!!!!! I dont have the words to express how delicious everything was. My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant was beautiful the staff was great and the food was to die for! It was a meal that we will reminisce and talk about for years to come. I highly recommend.

Cutest Date night spot. This place sits next to a creek and the water makes a soothing noise when it flows by the restaurant. Loved the vibe and the drinks. The restaurant has great indoor area as well. My fav was the lamb rack. The desserts were incredible too! Highly recommend this place to special occasions

My first time visiting La Forêt French Cuisine was a mostly wonderful experience. The service was excellent—attentive, warm, and professional. However, the pacing could have been a bit faster; our dinner took about three and a half hours to complete, which felt slightly prolonged. The entrées were the highlight of the evening. The elk was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. It’s a dish I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. Unfortunately, the dessert didn’t quite live up to the rest of the meal. The soufflé was just okay, with a flavor that was reminiscent of drinking wine but lacked the balance I was hoping for. Overall, La Forêt delivers an exceptional dining experience, especially with their entrées and service, though the dessert and pacing could use some improvements.

Cocktail bar
Straits Restaurant is a vibrant dining and nightlife spot offering small, shareable plates of Pan-Asian cuisine and creative cocktails. The menu reflects the diverse culinary traditions of China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India. Located in San Jose's Santana Row, this trendy establishment attracts stylish crowds with its Singapore-inspired appetizers and weekend DJ performances.
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Straits on Santana Row truly delivers a Michelin-quality experience from start to finish. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are all exceptional. We were warmly welcomed by the manager, Kim, who is not only hilarious but clearly passionate about the menu. She shared how much thought and care goes into each dish — including trying 20 different versions of the egg coffee dip to make sure it matched the original in Vietnam. That level of dedication really shows. Our servers, Enrique and Megan, were attentive and friendly throughout the meal, checking in often and making sure we had everything we needed. As for the food — every dish blew us away. The black pepper garlic rib eye was my favorite: incredibly tender, packed with umami, and paired with rice and corn that soaked up every drop of the flavorful glaze. I would honestly order it again just for the rice. We also tried the garlic noodles with shrimp (hands down the best garlic noodles I’ve ever had), the rich and comforting laksa, and the banana leaf salmon with mango salad — all equally impressive. Don’t skip dessert! The lychee panna cotta and mango kulfi float were both light, refreshing, and perfect for a summer day. To top it all off, Straits is very dog-friendly. We sat on the shaded patio with our little Maltese and they treated him like a VIP — bringing out water, a puppacino, and even unseasoned chicken just for him. We will absolutely be coming back — and bringing all our friends. Straits is a gem!

Came here for a quick bite before exploring the rest of the area. Straits during the day is a very chill place to hang out and grab a couple of drinks. Their bar is pretty big and has a good selection of alcohol that could accommodate anyone's preference. The drinks were great and they do not skimp on the alcohol. The small bites we received were just alright, but if you're hungry when it turns into a club, they will hit the spot. The atmosphere here is cool and upbeat, and the service, while a bit slow, compliments the vibe they are trying to set. Overall, an alright place that's not too pricey for what you get.

Straits is a Singaporean, Asian fusion gem on Santana Row. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive, something that lacks in many restaurants these days. While the restaurant has a large inside and bar area (club-like, so just keep that in mind), I highly recommend the outside seating when the weather is nice out (don’t worry they have heaters). Their happy hour is AMAZING, so jump in on SEVEN DAYS A WEEK (unheard of!). Not only are the prices fantastic, but they have a large range of drinks and food that are included. They don’t skimp on the portion size either. Now the food and drink recs!: - Lemongrass highball: even if you’re not a bourbon lover, it’s well-balanced and packs a punch - Crispy chicken “lollipops”: large, perfectly fried and the honey chili sauce…chef’s kiss - Spicy street noodles: sizable shrimp and tofu, awesome flavor and spice, I wish I wasn’t slipping this dish - Beef rendang: the braised beef had some good flavor, but parts of it were super tough and dry. Winning part of the dish was the coconut curry polenta at the bottom. It was a fantastic flavor and texture to add to the dish. Great meal and experience. Can’t wait to come back and try all of the other happy hour dishes!

Good food and good ambience. Perfect place to get some brunch on a sunny day! Tried chicken satay, basil chicken curry, jasmine rice and Salt & pepper shrimp. Basic chicken curry was very flavorful.

Straits is like a club vibe restaurant that I think feels more like a club atmosphere the later in the night you go. The women who work here are all beautiful, giving the club vibe. I came with three coworkers of mine, about 7 minutes before happy hour ended. We told the hostess we wanted happy hour so she sat us in the happy hour area. When we went to order, the waitress told us we had to sit in the happy hour area and moved us again to another table/area. As I was looking at a happy hour menu and about to order to the waiter, a lady came and took the menu out of my hands. She then went across the table to remove the menu from my friend's hands and thankfully they said something (unlike me bc l'm scared of confrontation in any form). The waitress who was taking the menus said this was not the area for happy hour and happy hour was over. It was 5:58 and happy hour ends at 6 so technically we still had time to put an order in. We told them how we already moved tables for happy hour and thankfully our waiter Luis saved the day as he was willing to accommodate our happy hour order. If it wasn't for him, we would have not gotten it bc the lady was dead set on making us move again and telling us happy hour was over. As a business you can either happily invite people to come in and quickly get a last happy hour bite or rudely make it difficult for people to squeeze in a happy hour order and I feel like Straits did the later. It was an unwelcoming vibe and the waitresses didn't seem to know where happy hour was taking place. Is the food good? Yes. The corn fritters and chicken lollipops are always my go tos. The fries are good w the dips and the garlic noodles were good. Happy hour vodka drink was decent too just a bit sweet. Overall, I don't know how to feel about this place. Luis saved the day so I'm thankful they have some caring employees, but I'm scared to go now and not have him bc it would've been a completely different experience.

The restaurant is in amazing location and service is really good but the food tasted stale and lacked flavors. We had ordered chicken satay (2/5) and shrimp fried rice (2/5). The drinks were good. Overall would recommend this place only for vibe.
Khushbu — Google review
This restaurant has always been an enigma to me. Been here several times, and I always walk away thinking the food is too sweet, and the attempt to be a restaurant and a night club really doesn’t work, as they are mediocre at both. Plenty of other options at Santana Row.
Wei-Ai T — Google review
I visited this restaurant for a team lunch, and it's located in a nice spot with pleasant decor. They offer a separate vegetarian menu with a wide range of options, from starters to main courses, featuring South Asian-style dishes. The corn fritters, spring rolls, and garlic fries were tasty, but the crispy cauliflower was missing the expected batter coating. The street-style noodles in the main course were a bit too sticky, though the veg fried rice was enjoyable. However, considering the price, the food didn't quite meet expectations. Service was slow and lacked efficiency, with only one person taking orders and serving. They also didn't take our main course order until we'd finished the starters. Overall, the experience was decent but not outstanding.

Mizu Sushi Bar & Grill offers a vibrant mix of Japanese and Korean cuisine in a stylish, spacious setting. Our family appreciated the variety—fresh sashimi, flavorful bulgogi, and creative specialty rolls all hit the mark. The lunch specials were generous and well-priced, and the ambiance worked well for both younger and older diners. It’s a popular spot, so expect a bit of a wait during peak hours, but the staff do their best to keep things moving. We found the seating comfortable for our party of five, and the menu had enough flexibility to accommodate dietary preferences. While service was friendly, there were moments where pacing could’ve been smoother. Still, the overall experience was satisfying, and we’d gladly return for another family meal. A solid 4-star spot with potential for 5 if consistency improves during busy times.

A really really awesome meal full of delicious food. The service staff was incredibly friendly and made he experience even better. Food was tasty. Portions are a good size. In this occassion, it was definitely busy. We had multiple people come to help, so I was never sure who our waiter was. Our waters weren't refilled, I had to go up front to get the check and pay.

We went to celebrate our anniversary on a Monday. The food was great, but the service was poor at best. We got seated and then waited a long time to get even our drink order or water. After our drink order was in, we waited again. Finally, we ordered an appetizer. The dish came out before our drinks arrived. We had actually eaten half the appetizer before our drinks arrived. That was a trend that continued for the rest of our meal. There were not many servers for a Monday, but there were not many tables were occupied either. Our waitress stood around instead of checking in on us. We will think twice before we come back.

Great quality sushi! Super delicious food and friendly staff. We made a reservation to celebrate our anniversary and requested a booth and/or a nicer table and they accommodated us nicely by giving us an option of a booth but it was right in the front by the door or a half booth half table in a better location. Will definitely recommend and come back!

Zona Rosa is a renowned Mexican restaurant in San Jose, known for its innovative fusion cuisine and handcrafted drinks. The restaurant gained recognition by winning the 2018 San Jose Mercury News's best taco award.
One of the most incredible restaurants I have ever been to in my entire life. Best Mexican food I’ve ever had it is so unique and well executed. The ingredients are so unique and somehow work so well together. The Mexican hot chocolate was THE BEST I’ve ever had so so so good. The enchiladas were mind blowing. The ambiance is so sweet and they give you beautiful woven blankets. How in the world are these prices so good?? They’re serving super super fancy food at a very normal price. The waiter was so cool and you can tell they have a deep respect for the cooks there. He was a guy from Pensacola, owners if you’re reading this give him a raise. I’m a super fan of this restaurant. I’m so used to constant regretful experiences at restaurants this was truly a delight

One of our favorite places to get a great cocktail and gorgeously done tacos that aren't what you normally find - we especially love the scallop tacos and the chicken al pastor! The drinks are well thought out and beautifully executed - their twist on a spicy margarita is especially tasty. Go for date night or go with friends and don't forget to get their house made chips and trio of salsas! But try and grab a reservation if you can, the restaurant is wonderfully cozy and fills up super fast.

On a Sunday evening, we headed to Zona Rosa and were seated right away. The waitress, who was super friendly, kicked things off with their homemade chips and dips. For appetizers, we tried the ceviche tostada, which I’d rate a solid 9 out of 10, and the quesadilla verduras, which was honestly a 10 out of 10 – one of the best I’ve ever had! The restaurant itself had a lovely vibe, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made the evening even more enjoyable. The staff really went out of their way to make everything comfortable, and I honestly enjoyed everything we ordered, which isn’t something I can say often. It was genuinely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while. The combination of great service, tasty drinks, and the charming setting really made it a memorable night.

Restaurant
Pho Kim Long is a no-frills Vietnamese restaurant located in San Jose, offering classic dishes like Bun Rieu and Ap Chao alongside their specialty, Pho Bo. The restaurant is known for its delicious and traditional Vietnamese noodle soup, with quick and efficient service despite the lunchtime crowds. San Jose's large Vietnamese community makes it a great destination for pho lovers, with other notable spots like Bun Bo Hue An Nam and Phonomenal Noodle House also worth visiting.
Today, we went to shopping at Great Mall. By lucky, we trained Pho Kim Long, 金龙, a Vietnamese–Chinese restaurant chain best known for its flavorful pho and broad menu. It has notable locations in both San Jose, CA and Las Vegas, NV—each with its own character. I would recommend this one as the Best pho spot I’ve been. The food has been consistent In addition to Pho, their double paned fried noodles with very rich seafood and source, lots verges, is very good.

I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and finally had the chance to try it. We ordered the fried fish sizzling plate and the crispy noodles with pork. Overall, the food was decent, but not particularly impressive. The fried fish sizzling plate is similar to a Vietnamese spring roll experience, but with a fried fish flavor. you get to make your own rolls, which is a fun touch. The restaurant itself is quite loud, so I’d recommend sitting outdoors if the weather allows. One thing that stood out (in a not-so-good way😬was the interior…specifically the white walls. If you’re going to use white walls, they should be kept clean. Sitting and staring at the stains definitely took away from the dining experience😞

This is one of the better Vietnamese restaurant. They offer wide variety of Vietnamese food. But I liked the soup base in their pho noodle. And they give you a good portion for the price that you're paying.

This long-established pho shop has always been popular, with lines forming every day, but they move quickly. There are actually many pho shops like this in South San Jose, but I think the difference is the broth isn't make you feel thirsty, and the beef is good. There aren't any fresh noodles available, but the dry noodles are cooked well, not too soft, and have just the right texture. The price reasonable , you pay at front cashier .
Kimberly I — Google review
We came here late, 7:30th pm so we did not have to wait like everyone else. Service: you have to tolerate the wait as most of the employees just drop off your food and took off without looking or asking if you need extra utensils, etc. Foods: Com Suong Nuong Opla (Pork Chop with egg) - pork chop was not bad, a little bit on the salty side. Bun Rieu Oc - was alright. Too tomato-Y. Cha Ca Va Long (grilled fish with Tumeric and dill) - comes with herbs and rice paper so you literally have to make your own wraps/ rolls. Then dip in the fermented fish paste. Fish are very flaky and very good flavor but the mam sauce was just plain and nothing special. Nothing like Anh Hong’s yummy Mam Sauce. But then this is north V food. Same same but different. I would return for the grilled fish dunk it in the regular nuong mam (fish sauce) instead of the fermented fish mam sauce.

Came here solo for lunch around 12 on a Wednesday. The place was packed, so they had me sit outside. The is great and they have a of unique items on the menu, other than pho. It took a bit for someone to take my order, but once it was in, the food came out pretty fast. I got the bún bò Huế (large, $17.59) and the gỏi cuốn (2 rolls, about $6.50). The bún bò Huế had great flavor, but it came with this massive chunk of pork that was mostly fat, also there was not much beef either, which was kind of disappointing. The spring rolls were fresh, but the peanut sauce was way too sweet and didn’t really taste like peanuts. One thing to note: if you sit outside, don’t expect any kind of service unless you wave someone down. No check-ins, no water refills, nothing. Not sure if it’s different inside, but it kind of felt like they focus more on food quality than customer service. When you are done you also have to go up to the counter to pay and tell them your table number. No need to tip here honestly.

A Slice of New York is a small pizzeria that brings the taste and feel of New York to its location. The space is adorned with NYC street signs, graffiti, and other memorabilia, creating an authentic atmosphere. Despite the variety of pizzas offered, co-founder Kirk Vartan recommends trying the plain slice to truly appreciate the crispy crust, well-balanced tomato sauce, and perfect layer of mozzarella. The popularity of this spot often leaves it standing room only as patrons enjoy their slices.
Came by on a Saturday afternoon and grabbed a large half-and-half Margarita/Times Square for takeout. The pizzas were new york style. The Margarita was classic for the most part but had a garlicky kick to it. The Times Square was decent, just your standard veggie combo, nothing wild but still tasty. Garlic knots were a nice side. They were soft, doughy, and loaded with garlic flavor, plus a solid marinara for dipping. The vibe inside was full of New York themed decor. It was clean, service was friendly, and the food came out in about 20 minutes. There’s no indoor dining and only a few outdoor tables. Parking is tough, mostly street spots in the neighborhood. Also, prices are on the higher end, we paid about $50 for one large pizza and knots.

Yeah, I'd come back for the White Pie or the Wall Street! Their crust is quite tasty, but the toppings are definitely where this place shines. High quality ingredients, and they don't skimp on the portions too! Perfect to share. Minimal seating at the shop, so expect to possibly eat the pie elsewhere. You can order and wait 15 or so minutes, but I'd recommend calling ahead. Solid pizza shop in SJ!

Good pizza, also got garlic knots which were good (like cinnamon rolls but garlic, you can unroll them). Parking is non-existent, I parked "creatively" since I was just picking up for takeout. I can't attest to the atmosphere too much beyond the time I spent waiting to ask for my food, most of which was spent waiting for a line of foreigners who spoke no English to shove phones in the manager's face so they could pick up orders lol. Seemed like a legit place though, will come here again.

Had the Wall Street (the pepperoni and some other stuff) and the white pie. The white pie (garlic oil and ricotta) was underwhelming, but the Wall Street was amazing. Not sure what was in it, obviously pepperoni and maybe pancetta with honey? It had a sweet taste to it despite the salty ingredients. I felt like I wanted to eat more with each bite. Also got a cannoli on the house and that was really good. Crunchy on the outside and sweet and creamy on the subside. The service was outstanding, I thought NY people were supposed to be rude and uncaring, but this is anything but that! Bar stool seating inside (maybe 5-6), but they had 2 outdoor tables with benches right outside as well. This place has been around since 2006, can’t believe it’s my first time here. What a gem! Felt like I was in high school looking at all the drawings on paper plates and autographs of random people. Enjoyed the diversity, creativity and flexibility of the staff (I heard multiple times customers ask for a combo or some other pizza and the staff would add ingredients to a slice to fill the gap), and co-op vibes.

Fantastic pizza slices that are crisp and large. Really enjoyed the selection here as they try some unique combinations. Take for instance the smoked ham and balsamic glaze pizza slice I had tonight. A true culinary wonder that I wish I lived close to eat weekly. This place is worth a stop.

Great pizza and friendly faces. Tried the pepperoni and margherita. Margherita was a bit dry and hard to bite. Pepperoni was good. We were lucky to find parking on a Friday evening but usually hard to find street parking since it’s a busy road.

Favorite pizza in the bay! If you manage to get in when Eric is working, his special slice is as good as pizza gets (Pepperoni, bacon, a little extra of the raw San Marzano sauce from their margarita pie, basil, Parmesan, hot honey)

Ethiopian restaurant
Walia Ethiopian Cuisine is a charming spot nestled in a modest shopping center in West San Jose, where the warmth of hospitality meets the rich flavors of Ethiopia. This inviting restaurant boasts an extensive menu that features both traditional and unique dishes, ensuring there's something for everyone, including vegetarian options. The dining area is adorned with vibrant drapes and portraits celebrating iconic Ethiopians, creating an engaging atmosphere.
Been coming here since they opened, and I might even have an earlier review in here somewhere, but they just did a major overhaul of the menu so I thought I'd post the pics from our visit tonight. They now have a breakfast menu that looks pretty interesting. They also now have mixed drinks with little Ethiopian spins (spice, honey, etc), and they're great! I would love to see them evolve them even more into the spices over time! We have Ethiopian food quite regularly (just became a family favorite over time) and have tried dozens of restaurants all over the Bay Area, state, and country and Walia continues to be THE BEST. I even buy their berbere spice by the pound to use at home. Always super friendly and welcoming owners and staff too. If you haven't had Ethiopian before, this is exactly where you need to go. If you already love it, this is top notch.

After so many attempts during the pandemic and recent, I finally got to try Walia and see if they really are the best Ethiopian in town. They were open for a weekend lunch and has lots of vegetarian and vegan options available which always makes me happy. We ordered one of their combo platters named after a tech giant which contained the Veggie Combo along with other options for my friends. The veggie combo came with four different items and a few rolls of injera. I really enjoyed the veggie dishes including the stewed lentils, greens, and curry potatoes. Everything was made bite size and the flavors were really going for it here at Walia. Service here was friendly but food admittedly took a very long time. We didn't get our platters until 30 minutes after ordering. I've been to enough Ethiopian to expect some kind of wait, but this one did feel quite long. I enjoyed the experience and would come back here again in the future.

This was my second time coming here, and it was just as great as the first! My boyfriend and I shared the veggie and meat combo; it was a generous portion, super fresh, and really flavorful. Everything was perfectly seasoned and tasted homemade. The owner stopped by a few times to check on us, which was really nice. Great food, great service, definitely recommend!

This is our new favorite Ethiopian restaurant in San Jose! Its absolutely delicious! We got the vegetarian platter with lamb tibs and the quantity is enough for 2 people and everything was so good, we couldn't decide what was our favorite. Can't wait to go back! The only downside is the bathroom is outside of the restaurant in the same building but its not too inconvenient

I ordered food for pick up, with delivery time of 20min. When I got there on time they didn’t ask for my name or provided any updates as I was standing for 30min past due their estimate. The place was dirty and I could see how messy their kitchen was. I felt lucky they were late because after I saw how bad the place smelled and how dirty it was I had already lost my appetite. I canceled my ordered and went back home. I will not be craving Ethiopian for a loooong time.

Walia Ethiopian Cuisine is simply outstanding! We kicked things off with delicious lentil sambusas, perfectly crispy and flavorful. The main event, the Zuckerberg Combo, was a feast for the senses. Every dish, from the rich doro wat to the tender chicken tibs and the diverse vegetarian options, was perfectly spiced and incredibly satisfying. Scooping it all up with their fresh injera was pure joy. Excellent service and an authentic experience make Walia a must-visit in San Jose!
Shivam P — Google review
Ordered the veg platter with lamb tibs. It was more than enough for 2 people. Very flavorful food. I would like to explore more non vegetarian dishes. I loved the lamb tibs. They did forget to bring our tea, but it's ok, we will try that the next time we visit 👍🏻
Evelyn P — Google review
Did carry out so I cannot comment on the atmosphere. The food here was very good. I tried the vegetarian sampler and the amount of food provided was very plentiful. They provided a whole ziplock bag filled with Injera so had more than enough. The potatoes and cabbage, lentils and greens were delicious and I highly suggest ordering the vegetarian sampler. I was NOT impressed by the Sambusa which was dry and not flavorful. I would skip that the next time but would not hesitate to order the vegetarian menu items. Time to prepare was a but long but I prefer the wait to reheated foods so was ok with that. I have eaten at numerous Ethiopian establishments and this one was good.

Portuguese restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
Brunch restaurant
Petiscos is a charming Portuguese restaurant that offers a delightful selection of small plates and a well-stocked bar, complete with outdoor seating and occasional fado nights. Visitors can expect an authentic taste of Portugal in the Bay Area, with a nod to Portuguese decor and flavorful tapas-style dishes reminiscent of those found in Portugal. The Sangria is particularly enjoyable, and the Pig's Ear Salad offers an interesting culinary experience. Additionally, the attentive service from bartender Joao adds to the overall dining pleasure.
Delicious Portuguese tapas. It is recommended to order two tapas per person. The seasoning is very unique but tasty. The dishes I like the most are the beef tongue and duck rice. I also like their Porto.
Yi-Hsiang L — Google review
The atmosphere and service are nice. My favorite is duck rice, octopus and meat croquettes. The mocktail red sangria is pretty good. But a few dishes are too salty and lobster bisque has a very strong unpleasant taste. Beef tongue, clams and seafood rice are okay. I expect more for the price.
Henry Z — Google review
Went for dinner Thursday for dinner before heading to San Jose Improv. We arrived at 6 PM when there were plenty of seats and at 7:30 it was half full. The dishes we enjoyed most are beef tongues and pork with clams. Meats were tender and flavorful. Highly recommend. Enjoyable but with flaws dishes included filet mignon salad-vegetable fresh and seasoned right but meat cut was off too tough to chew; cheese bread - not sure what cheese they used but definitely lacking the creamy texture; and blood sausage- a little salty and too little blood so it tastes like just another normal sausage. Lastly not recommended the francesinha sandwich. Coming at the end of the meal the sandwich is very heavy with a lot of greasy sauce. If you just come for one dish this might do, fried egg ham and steak simmering in tasty sauce. The steak in the middle again I think is too tough. Overall I would say avoid their steaks. We would love to come back to try their seafood tapas and duck rice another time as people praised them highly online.
Jenn J — Google review
The place looks great but that's about where it ends in terms of complements. It seems like they want to charge fancy restaurant prices and portions while giving you casual restaurant quality. The pork croquettes are fairly salty so you need to douse them in the sauce to abate it. This actually made them pretty good. The portion for the octopus was non-existent considering, at time of this review, they charged $45 for an octopus tail and 5 baby potatoes. Even without considering the price, it's just alright. The serving size of the Francesinha was good but it's honestly so one-note and reminiscent of malt that it became boring to eat. Additionally, the egg was fairly overcooked even though I cut it immediately. Also, it's so hard to cut it with the knife they gave to you. Wish it came pre-sliced. And for the service, boy that mess was rough. They tried but they were both understaffed and also incentivized. Instead of a server for your table, you kind of got three people just walking around and you have to constantly flagged people down to get service. That's fine for a place that's like $15 a dish. Not $40.

Food was very good. I'll be back. Staff was incredibly friendly and know the menu. Scallops we're incredible. Asparagus risotto and shrimp were very good. We shared the ribeye ( steak. Frites) and glad we did with three people. I'm stuffed.
James K — Google review
I was really looking forward to trying authentic Portuguese food today. Overall, the flavors were on the saltier side for a Michelin-rated restaurant, and the wine list wasn’t very extensive. Corkage is $45. Compared to other Portuguese restaurants I’ve tried in San Jose, a few dishes here are quite close to the authentic local taste. The white sangria was pleasantly balanced—not too sweet—and very refreshing. The blood sausage was chewy, aromatic, and tasted truly authentic, with just the right amount of salt. The duck rice was my absolute favorite. The seasoning was perfect for my taste, and I loved the chewy texture and the rich, layered broth with mushrooms—it was full of depth and flavor. The cod casserole tasted like a gratin, but it was way too salty. If it were slightly less salty, it would have been much better. Still, it paired nicely with the duck rice—but I probably wouldn’t order it again. The tempura beans were crispy on the outside with a nice bite from the beans inside—tasty but nothing special. The house aioli wasn’t the traditional Portuguese or Spanish yolk-heavy version; it was more like the American-style aioli. I would definitely come back for the blood sausage and duck rice—those two dishes are must-tries! Service was excellent—the staff replaced plates, cleaned the table promptly, and were very polite throughout.

I came for my birthday dinner. I love the idea of Portuguese tapas, but the overall experience was very underwhelming. It didn't live up to the Michelin guide for me. Service was okay and food came out rather quickly. However, there was no silverware given with the dishes so we had to use our personal utensils to dish out food for everyone. Our sangria came out after we finishes 2-3 dishes. Normally drinks should come out first. On the sangria note, it is dang near impossible to pour without spilling it all over the table. It tasted watered down and not that flavorful anyways. We ordered an array of dishes. Starting with the cheese bread. This was pretty tasty. Not your regular pao de queijo. It was a lot more dense and had a more sharp cheese taste, like a pecorino or sharp cheddar. Super tasty, but super oily. The codfiah cake was bland and the presentation was terrible (see photo). It looked like two burnt longs on a tiny plate, no garnish or finish whatsoever. The clams were nice and plump, but sandy and the flavors were basic. The roasted octopus was probably my favorite dish - super tender and the flavors were popping. The octopus went great with the garlic spinach and potatoes. The filet mignon had a deep herty sauce and the meat was tender. Hot take, but the duck rice was a miss for me. Bland, greasy, barely any duck, and overly expensive for what it is. We also had the broa bread which was dry and crummy and the flamed chourico. The chourico was a show more than anything. I didn't think anything special of the sausage. Overall, underwhelming experience that did not meet expectations and we will not be returning. Also note that they have a cake cutting fee and living wage fee!

I think it’s a Michelin star restaurant so maybe it’s just me because it was ok but I wasn’t overly impressed. The service was certainly stellar and the ambiance pleasing. Sort of Portuguese nouveau chic. The food wasn’t the level I assumed it’d be. Here’s what we had, perhaps you want to try the same or something different. Start with the Pão de Queijo. Delicious and puffy cheese bread. Based on the rest of the food, I had to eat a lot of these. The beef tongue in tomato sauce was the best dish IMO. Tender pieces of tongue in a tangy sauce. Nicky cooked to the right texture. Perhaps a little too lukewarm instead of hot. I can’t find it in my menu picture for some reason but the next best dish I think was paella. With mussels and clams. Or maybe it was risotto. It was sort of watery, so maybe… We also had some kind of rice dish with a sausage and a pork belly on top. This one was pretty good. At least it fills you up. But it really needs more meat. Pata Negra fries with fried egg on top was another good one. Very tasty and surprisingly a little spicy. Quite pricey at $34 though. Octopus is always good and theirs was no exception. Cooked just right so good texture and not rubbery. We had the oven roasted version. They also have a cold version. Sautéed veggies were solid. Nothing explicit to describe. Grilled sardines were very bony and not really my thing. Especially what you get for $33. Pigs eat salad was the most, um, interesting. Taste was ok but the texture was odd. Basically cartilage. The last thing was some kind of fried cheese (I think) with an egg on top. I really don’t have anything to say about that one. Overall, quite a price tag and overall not my thing. Most dishes are around $20 but climb to upper $30’s. But you may love it! I Terri’s to take photos of our dishes so you can see for yourself.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of downtown San Jose, Original Joe's is a cherished establishment that has been delighting diners since 1956. This lively restaurant and bar exudes an inviting atmosphere with its deep booths, dark wood accents, and warm lighting—perfect for enjoying hearty American-Italian dishes like spaghetti and meatballs or chicken parmesan. The charming waitstaff, dressed in tuxedos and sporting handlebar mustaches, add to the nostalgic vibe of this iconic eatery.
Convenient to the McNerney Convention Center. Very good Italian food. No wait, prompt service. Eggplant Parmesan with vegetables was very tasty.

I arrived at Original Joe's, joining a colleague who had eaten here many times. For a Monday night, it was busy, which is a good sign. The place has traditional booth style seating and staff dressed very smartly. It felt like you were walking back in time. We were jet-lagged massively so we didn't eat a great deal but what we did have was reasonably nice. The menu is all Italian-America. We landed on a simple prawn pasta. The prawns were the largest prawns I've seen or had in a pasta dish before! Prices are reasonable and service was quick. Had I been better rested, I may have sampled some of their drinks. Next time.

I came with my roommates and ordered a ‘The Rock salad’ from the menu, which stated $29.95. However, when I scanned the online bill, it was $33.95 before tax. The salad is humongous, but I just don’t know why they haven't updated the price. I contacted them to ask about the change in price and they only said they knew the price change when I mentioned it?! After saying that the lady just remained quiet and didn’t say anything more so I just hung up. The food is mid not so special compared to the price. Also, the waiter asked if we wanted some bread and didn’t even mention that they gonna charged for it. We ended up getting 2 plates because we thought it was free but it turned out $5 each and $10 total for 2. The waiter was really nice but it took us a long time to ask him for the second bread plate and the check because he was busy I had the eggplant parmigiana before and it was ok so I came back with my roommates but I guess not next time tho

Solid 3 Stars. First time at Original Joe's and I have mixed feelings. The food was tasty but lacked creativity. My Steak Sandwich was too rare and served on a toasted bread roll. That's it, just meat and bread. Flavorful but dull. Accompanied by steak fries. I actually used ketchup as a condiment for my sandwich. I know a lot of people would probably kill me if they saw this but I had to work with what they gave me. Our appetizer was Fried Calamari, no complaints. The other entrées were Chicken Parm and Pasta Marinara with a giant Meatball. Simple and tasty but lacking presentation. Our server was David and he did a great job. His knowledge of the menu was substandard and he showed genuine concern and professionalism. We appreciate David and that's why we tip our waiters 25%. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday evening. Plenty of parking options in the area. No wait to be seated even though it was very busy in the Resto. Original Joe's has an attached bar called The Hideout. Full bar with flat screens to enjoy the game. We may return to try it someday. So to reiterate, our first visit at Joe's was good. Food lacked pizzazz, but is decent. My dull Steak Sandwich and fries set me back $35. Maybe some veggies and condiments to accompany it would be a good idea? The Pasta Marinara was flavorful not too salty and great portion size. Chicken Parm was simple yet tasty. Our Tiramisu was unfortunately inedible. Something was bitter and off putting in it so we sent it back. Oh well, no biggie. I look forward to returning someday.

This is an example of a restaurant that is coasting along on an old reputation. Many people who visit here are longtime customers who do not realize that this place is no longer worth the price. The food was mediocre at best. The service was absolutely a notch below what I would expect at a Denny's or a Waffle House. The price for what was received revealed there are much better eating options than here. Now go make new memories somewhere else and skip this place.

A very great place for dinning. The service employee are very friendly and welcoming (Jennifer H). Drinks and Foods are also great that I rarely enjoy a delicious Sirloin as OJ served this evening. Location is also closed to the center Hotel area in San Jose. Very recommended dinner place in town.

I’ve been to OJ’s almost every year for the past decade. It has a charm that’s impossible to replicate with newer restaurants. I only come here for dinner— for the spaghetti, ravioli, steak & eggs, and the occasional drink at the bar. I know there’s the more trendy sister restaurants these days, but this location & Daly City’s will always hold a special place in my heart.

Barbecue restaurant
Smoking Pig BBQ in San Jose is a classic Southern-style BBQ joint that has been serving up slow-smoked ribs, brisket, and pork since 2011. The modest setting and friendly service create a nostalgic atmosphere, making visitors feel like they've stepped back in time. Led by former tech industry professional turned pitmaster Paul Reddick and his wife Jessica, this family-owned restaurant offers mouthwatering smoked meats such as brisket, pulled pork, and ribs.
with a taco stand at every corner and hundreds of other places to choose from today's culinary adventure led me to try the smoking pig. word of mouth and speaking with a few patrons who were eating one of them telling me they come here every other week I knew we made the right choice. the smell of the various BBQ meats was intoxicating coming from the small little shop with blues playing in the background it was perfect the service was second to non and the different BBQ sauce at the table made every bite tasty and savory and phenomenal cannot say enough I highly recommend

Great BBQ spot. Very casual. Plenty of parking (dedicated lot, some street parking). Great place to have lunch and enjoy some ribs, brisket and soda. Meat combo platters are reasonable and they include cornbread and a side. The sides are delicious. I had the potato salad today.

The person whom I chose to refer to has hostess/ cashier/ waitress; was super she noticed my pain right away and seated me. She gave me time to review the menu. She patiently and excitedly went over the items and allowed me to choose. The food was sooo good. The greens truly southern style with a kick. I’m just happy not to have sugar in my greens to taste. The cornbread is really slap yo mama style. Want to go and get just cornbread. The ribs are smoked to perfection seasoned and fall of bone. The hot link sausage was a bit spicy for my taste but good no dought.

Good local spot for barbecue in an area not known for barbecue. Traditional selections with moderate serving portions. The food ia always consistent (taste, portion size, etc.) Some of the favorites are the Sammys (sandwiches) and Wolf Turds. I usually order the brisket because it's tender and delicious. Friendly and fast service.

Out of the many local BBQ spots in San Jose, they are one of them. Overall they aren't bad but nothing stands out either, it's fine, the mac & cheese was solid however. The pricing is where they aren't a place I would recommend, it's just too high for the food and quality compared to other places nearby.

The Table is a popular American eatery located in Willow Glen, San Jose, just a short drive from downtown. The restaurant offers a rustic-chic ambiance with an open kitchen and has recently expanded to include a new patio and spacious bar featuring an Imbibe menu with over 20 craft drinks. Emphasizing a farm-to-table ethos, The Table uses locally sourced ingredients for its seasonal menu and creates its own juices, syrups, and purees on-site.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance and the friendly staff set the tone for a good experience. The tostada had a crunchy texture with a variety of flavors, and the fried chicken burger with the toasted buns tasted great! The chocolate cake could have been a little less dry. Each dish was beautifully presented. The service was very attentive, and the overall vibe was relaxed.
Bartika D — Google review
It was not an easy decision for me to leave a negative review, but I would be more than happy to revisit it if I receive a thoughtful response from the restaurant. My intention is simply to share my honest experience in the hope of helping this restaurant improve, and nothing more. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, and I would like to feel safe and welcome when I bring my friends here, no matter what skin colors they are. Everyone deserves to be treated with the same respect and attention. I’ve lived in the U.S. for over a decade, and I honestly never expected that dining out would one day come with the worry of being treated differently. Unfortunately, our experience with the service left us feeling uncomfortable. To start, the front desk initially didn’t want to seat us outdoors, despite plenty of available tables. Right after she seated the group ahead of us (a white couple), I pointed out, “there are plenty of tables outside,” which made her feel awkward and eventually led her to seat us outdoors. Secondly, our waitress did not greet us at all throughout the entire meal. She only appeared to take our order, without any greeting or eye contact. She didn’t bother to refill our water or check in on us, while she spent time small-talking and joking with other tables. I didn’t even have a chance to tell her that my husband’s dish was cold. At the end, we tried to get her attention several times to ask for the check—my husband spoke to her directly, and I made eye contact twice—but we were consistently overlooked as she attended to other tables. Eventually, I decided to speak with the manager. The manager was generous—she comped our bill and offered us dessert, which we truly appreciated. I could tell she wanted to make things right, and I’m grateful for her efforts. However, the interaction felt rushed, and she didn’t seem to speak with our server at all about our feedback. When she came to our table, she didn’t ask my husband for his feedback, which only added to our lingering feeling of being unintentionally dismissed. I’m not sharing this to complain or seek anything more—we’ve already received compensation. I’m leaving this review in the hope that the restaurant will reflect on how it treats all guests, and especially how moments of discomfort can leave a lasting impression. As I mentioned earlier, I would like to feel safe and welcome when I bring my friends here in the future, no matter what skin colors they are. I look forward to hearing a response from the restaurant.

Great location and atmosphere. Pretty cool patio. The service was great - our server, Erica, was awesome. We had the special strawberry salad, the special black cod and John’s Bolognese. The strawberry salad was nice and refreshing. Unfortunately, the black cod and the bolognese were both under seasoned, which was a bummer.

We had a nice meal here but nothing stood out to us unfortunately. Maybe my expectations were too high? The melon and prosciutto was a miss since the melon was cut way too big and wasn’t ripe enough. Roasted carrots and scallops were good. Lamb meatballs were fine. I enjoyed the cocktails and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

We've eaten here a few times and we love it. This review is for their take out. We ordered corn beef hash and what we got was pitiful. Barely any food and the meat was raw. $28 for this.

The food looked good, but was a little bland. It was prepared ok, and for the prices I would have expected more flavor. The coffee was delicious; robust and smooth. The crab cake Benedict had a lot of veggies and the eggs were the 63 degree eggs. The 63 degree egg whites were not fully cooked. The crab cake was moist and tasty. The hash browns were golden and crispy but not over done in oil. They were prepared beautifully. My husband had the corned beef hash, and he was not impressed. The eggs were to be done over hard and still had a runny yoke. The potatoes were done very well and the corned beef was bland. We had Bloody Mary’s, and they were spicy and yummy with all of the veggie garnishes. The beignets were surgery and warm. Great comfort food. The helping size was plenty and the service from Maria was great. The atmosphere is delightful.

Modern American foods restaurant. Foods and services were excellent. I would give this place 5 stars if the Bone marrow we ordered would have had more bone marrow in it. We got two piece of bone, one with bone marrow (not much though) and one with only bone. They should have a better quality control of this. Other foods were fine as per photo.

We've gone here a few times and have enjoyed it. We came once during happy hour and it was great because the margarita's are really quite tasty and they were nicely discounted! The sauce flavors here are spot on. They've really done a great job developing balanced quality flavors. The portions are generous and the food is fresh. The server had some issues with the orders and messed up a few things but it was really busy so we tried to understand. They are slow but the presentation is nice. The mushroom quesadilla is soooo good! I don't think anyone was disappointed with their food and there were 9 of us the first time. We will definitely be back for more. ❤️

Olla was the ideal venue to bring our community together, and we’re grateful for the care and attention the team showed throughout the evening. Highly recommend for group events or special occasions!

Lovely Mexican restaurant in the heart of San Jose. The tacos were tasty. Our group also share some chips and guacamole and the chips were on point. Drinks were great; they have a lot of variety. Our server Mateo was patient, attentive and efficient. We really enjoyed our visit.

Ok ok, I love the atmosphere first off! I love the decor, the location, the parking garage that is easily accessible, and the overall vibe going on here. While I was a fan of all of that, the service wasn’t too great. We went for dinner time on a Monday night. We ordered an appetizer and it never came but we got charged for it. We were never checked on, and we did want to order more, so we went around the corner for something small to fill us up. I believe it’s a bit overpriced for bare minimum food. You basically don’t get a meal. My party and I ordered tacos, and none came with a side of rice or beans. Just two tacos. For the price you pay, you could go to a street vendor and get 5-6 tacos not just 2. Overall, I loved how beautiful this place was but not a fan of the prices and food. I’m not local here but I don’t think I’d travel all the way back just for this place again. At least I tried it!

I'm torn with this review. We came here on Thursday night after work and sadly, there were only 2 other tables the entire evening from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. They need more customers or I don't see how they will survive. The food was tasty and fresh. The portions for the entrees were generous and the margaritas were tasty. The beet salad is like nothing I've ever had before. Roasted beets with an ancho sauce (not spicy), crema, pumpkin seeds and orange segments. It was absolutely fabulous. Even though the place was basically empty, we only saw our waitress at the beginning and once we got our food it was quite some time before we were checked on. Very pretty girl and I really like their uniforms (good styling choice) but they should be a scootch more attentive with water offerings & checking to make sure the patrons are good. What disappointed me and almost got a 2 star review is that I asked for fresh avocado on the Chile Relleno and got a 1/4 of a nearly hard avocado with the hefty price of $5.95!!! I've never seen such an exorbitant charge for avocado. To top it off, I don't like when establishments just bring the charge machine with no view of the bill prior. I'm blindly tipping (of which the 2% added on would've affected the percentage) and had I seen the charge for the avocado I would've requested a deduction. I would recommend the food to people, just be aware of some of the charges and always ask to see your receipt before calculating your tip. Never trust the auto calculation at any place, I've caught many that are wrong.

Stopped in on the recommendation of the octopus. As I arrived i was immediately greeted by chase who guided me to the bar as he gave some of his own recommendations. Brenna the bartender immediately geeeted me and got me set up with a nice cold beverage. While waiting for my beverage i was just looking around and the esthetic and ambience were so on point really full of the culture. I ended up getting the octopus which was an absolute phenomenon the slight char mixed with the zucchini tomatoes and green mole really set off the flavor of the octopus just really was a chefs kiss. I’d give just the all around experience a 10/10 and would definitely come back next time im in San Jose,Ca

Fast food restaurant
Iguanas Home Of The Burritozilla is a vibrant Mexican fast-food spot located in a brightly painted home. It's renowned for its 5-lb. burrito, the Burritozilla, which has gained fame as a must-try challenge for food enthusiasts. Their signature orange sauce and nacho fries are highly praised, adding to the appeal of their California-style burritos filled with fries and nacho cheese.
My first time here, the place is very vibrant and lively on the outside.   You can't miss it.   You can hear the music playing, it's inviting you to come in.  There is plenty of outdoor seating. Inside where you place your order, it's small.   There's 2 small tables and a counter for people to sit and eat.   The soda fountain wasn't working.   There are a lot of items to choose from they even have a happy hour menu. I asked the lady at the register what she recommended, and she was meh.  Clearly, she wasn't trying to help me, and she acted like I was bothering her.   I brushed it off and placed my order.  I watched in amazement as the cook made my food.  It was like art being made.  He was super nice. I ordered: 1.  Iguana nachos no beans - The chips are crispy and fresh.   This was a meal on its own. 2.  Super Iguana burrito -  This was big enough to feed a family.  We literally cut it in half and gave half to my parents.  We ate this at home, which was like an hour away, and it was still hot when we got home.   It was delicious.   Yummy goodness in every bite. 3.  Enchiladas side - I did chicken and cheese and watched the cook make it in the pan.   He lightly sauced the container and then poured the yummy goodness from the pan to the container.   I couldn't wait to eat it.   The chicken was tender and juicy.  Each bite was perfect and flavorful. 4.  Chips and guacamole - Crunchy chips and amazing guacamole. When the lady handed me my food, she packaged it so well my Enchiladas container tipper over, and the juice just spilled out on my vintage a d in the bag.  Lovely lady.  The soda machine was broken, and there was no agua frescas.  She didn't offer any drinks.   The only option was water and Gatorade. Highly recommend this place.   The food was amazing.   Ignore the lady at the register, and you'll be fine.

Great Mexican diner in San Jose Downtown. The restaurant exterior is flashy, especially at night. I tried their veggie tacos and nachos. Loved the taste of the food. Also, the orange sauce was spicy and but tasted real good. Their service was quick and outstanding. Lots of place to dine in and outside the restaurant. Highly recommend!

Service was very fast, this place is a must to try for the ones who love burritos and even for those who don't, this people really know how to satisfy the palate and stomach of other people who want to eat well and in abundance. Seen in a Man-vs-food episode, my expectations was very high and not only they really didn't disappointed me, but match my dreams to eat the American way: plentiful and tasty. Not made on purpose, but I preferred the burrito to taco Tuesday on that very day. Taken a super burrito, I've choosen "Al pastor". Highly recommended.

I wish I had taken pictures of the food, but I was too famished to remember. I ended up getting it to go anyway. The place was spotless, and I actually loved the entrance. It felt like I was entering a roller coaster line queue – pretty cool, right? I ordered a chicken burrito and a steak burrito. They were quite tasty. But let me highly recommend the horchata; it's so good that I wish I could have it every day. The steak nachos were alright, with generous toppings, crunchy, authentic tortilla chips that reminded me of the ones I enjoy at Superior – similar taste and crunch. The fries were excellent, crispy and not overly potatoey. The service here was outstanding. The guy at the register was friendly, explained everything well, and had a pleasant speaking voice. He managed to be laid-back and professional at the same time. Apologies for not leaving a tip; I think I got overwhelmed and didn't see the tip option. I usually always tip small businesses. I'll make sure to do that next time! Now, let's talk about the orange sauce – it was spicy for me but incredibly tasty! There's ample seating both inside and outside. I typically expect stuffy and humid environments in places like this, but it felt clean and had fresh air. The tables were well-kept. One thing to note is that they don't give you an order number, so make sure you keep an eye on your order. We certainly didn't hear any numbers being called, so a kind customer in the other dining area kept repeating the number to us. I'll definitely return here. The only downside for me is the color scheme inside. I understand it's iguana-themed, but to me, it felt a bit tacky, like a childhood room decorated with a Minecraft theme. I think a cooler, more modern urban iguana theme would be great. The outside looks cool and hip, but once you're inside, it feels a bit underwhelming. Also, note that the restroom door is locked.

Is it a Mexican food place? Nope Is it the best place in the area? Nope Is it authentic casual Californian food? Yes Can you find comforting, delicious, consistent food at very affordable prices? Also yes Do I think you should stick to their burrito menu? Yes, it has it in its name, and you can have the best experience bite after bite. Do you need to go at least once in your life? Yes Is their orange sauce the BOOM? HELL YES Everything on their menu is worth it, so take the time to place your order and prepare your best first impression. Wait for your food while enjoying the music of the place (a perfect playlist, by the way); I recommend you eat outside and enjoy! You will most likely need that after-lunch walk around downtown San Jose.

First time went to this cute place in downtown San Jose. We had super quesadilla and super tacos. Food was very tasty especially with orange sauce. I love their Mexican food. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended it.

First off, I love burritos! Wherever I go to a new Mex restaurant, I get a burrito. If it's not good, I don't go back. With a name like Burritozilla, I had high hopes. It was a solid 4/5 stars. The prices were reasonable considering it's a downtown location. They have a 10% student discount that helped take the expense down. The burrito was decent. Had a good flavor and size, but wasn't the best I've had in downtown (California wet burrito was better). What was surprisingly good were the fries! Crispy and not over salted. Would I go back for another burrito? Maybe after trying a few more places, but definitely for their fries. (If this review was helpful, please hit the like button below)

Sushi restaurant
Gombei is a beloved eatery located in San Jose's Japantown, serving up delicious home-styled Japanese cuisine for over 30 years. The menu features traditional favorites like chicken teriyaki, deep fried chicken donburi, and udon noodles for lunch, while dinner options include tofu hot pots, tuna sashimi, and 'whiteboard specials.'
It's been quite a few years since we came here and we were really glad that the quality of the home cooked style dishes are still as outstanding as before. Stuffed tofu was an unique take on such homey food. Prices are still very reasonable. Definitely need to come back soon for all those specials also. Two thumbs up.
DANNY L — Google review
Ample amount of food. Unfortunately, the taste was not so good. Tuna sashima appeared to be from frozen pack and not freshly aged type. It also had some fishy smell and taste. The fish was either not so fresh or the knife used to cut had some residuals of the fish cut prior to mine. The chicken teriyaki was okay, though it also had analogous fishy taste. The grilled mackerel also had fishy taste (lingering afterward) that indicated that the fish was likely not so fresh. We were disappointed somewhat...

Delicious, home style Japanese food. Service popped by regularly to refill hot tea. Nice and quiet location in the middle of Japan Town! Beef teriyaki and pork cutlet was great. You can specify doneness, and the cutlet stayed crispy even with sauce on it. Definitely use katsu sauce liberally!

Cozy and quiet store, went on a friend's recommendation and while it's not anything special, it is pretty solid. Fair pricing with a small but good selection. Sashimi was fresh while every item was pretty nice. Would give them a try if nearby.

Good value and also good if you like that “home cooking” style Japanese food. Nov 26, 2022 update: Been here many times for dinner but this was the first time for lunch. It’s pretty much the same menu but I think a bit cheaper. Spicy chicken was good, especially with the rice. Miso soup good and I like the iceberg lettuce salad with the creamy dressing. All this for $13. We also had the fried mackerel with steak combo. This was one of the specials on the white board menu in the back. I think it was $19. Service always friendly and fast here. June 2025 update: Still dang good!

If you are looking for a home style, Japanese food, then this is the place to go. They always have new chef specials on the wall, and just all around all of the food here is good. The staff are always friendly and smiling. I love this place!

Homey Japanese restaurant for comfort food. You order what you crave and you get it promptly. 3 of us tried their special poke combo. It was way more than we could eat. The variety was awesome. One plate could serve two people. Service is nice. Next time I will try ramen or curry dishes. Still tasty and nice service. On weekends they tend to get packed. We tried their specials (check board before ordering) and my brother got a pork katsudon.

Sweet Mango is a cozy and laid-back restaurant that offers a unique fusion of Chinese and Burmese cuisine with a touch of Thai influence. The menu features visually stunning dishes that blend traditional ingredients and cooking techniques from both culinary traditions. The restaurant provides a comfortable dining experience, with nice seating arrangements inside and beautiful flowers outside. Vegetarian options are plentiful, including delicious samosas and flavorful dishes like eggplant in garlic sauce and kung pao tofu.
Affordable and delicious southeast Asian and Chinese food! The staff are incredibly friendly, and the food is delicious with beautiful dishes. We had the Singapore Stir Fried Noodles, the Pad Thai, and the Mango Eggplant. They also take food allergies very seriously and can accommodate dishes accordingly. Parking can be a little difficult with only 6-7 spaces in front of the restaurant.

First off we had the samosa, mango salad and fresh mango with sticky rice and am being as unbiased as possible. This is about the worst Burmese “food” I have ever tasted. My wife is from Burma and grew up making traditional Burmese dishes. This is an abomination and must be addressed. The utter disrespect to the tradition of the Burmese food is very disturbing . However if you don’t care about authenticity then this all for you. Photos will illustrate real mango and their mango salad. Not worth the price whatsoever…

First off, it's Christmas Night. This was our first time. We come here and it is packed!!! We got the last table for 2 and got seated immediately, otherwise it would have been an hour wait! So, excellent service. 3 different people came and asked for our drink order. We were impressed by their decorative plates. We ordered the shredded pork Entree, and a mixed chow mein with pot stickers. All were very good. I ordered the fried bananas with mango ice cream for dessert. The batter on the bananas was very good too. If they were plantains instead, i think they would have earned 5 stars. Otherwise, this is a solid 4 and we'll be back.

So happy to find this great Chinese place in San Jose! I liked everything about it. Food was delicious and the portions were big, prices reasonable, interior stylish and even elegant. But what is the most rare in all middle class restaurants - the service - it was top notch! The servers were very dedicated and knowledgeable, plus they were wearing the uniform(!) Feel myself really welcome guest here. As for food can definitely recommend chicken with eggplant in garlic sauce. Flavorful and tender with right level of spice.
Аlisa P — Google review
We stumbled along this place by distance and the reviews. We were about to fly out and wanted some good Asian food. The pics and reviews don't do this place justice! I eat out a LOT and this is my new favorite spot. I can honestly say the best Chinese food I've had. The service was amazing. I can't believe the place isn't packed. Their decor is cute and restrooms are clean. We started with the crispy tofu. I am normally not a fan of it but my boyfriend wanted to try it and I'm so glad he did. It was crunchy and the sauce that accompanied it was tasty. We shared the Kung pao and general tso and there was so many umami moments. We also had jasmine tea and that was herby and delicious. The combination fried rice was not an after thought. I could have just eaten that and been great. They go out of their way to make sure everything tastes so good and it shows. I can't say enough good things about them. I can't wait to visit San Jose again. I just wish San Antonio wasn't so far away.

I love this Thai food restaurant in Willow Glen. It’s reasonably priced and large portions. I love the yellow curry! The folks there are so sweet when I ask that my order be gluten free (they have GF soy sauce)! They are always so helpful when I want to try new menu items and ensure that it can or can not be made GF. Their lunch menu is also really good!

Omogari is a renowned restaurant that offers a delightful array of Korean cuisine. The star of the show is the tempting meat jun, a sautéed beef dish that tantalizes the taste buds. In addition to this signature dish, Omogari also serves grilled meats, fresh kimchi, and an enticing variety of side dishes that beautifully complement their hot pots.
The restaurant is kind of small and there’s no waiting area. You’ll need to wait outside. Parking can be difficult to find at times and you’ll need to pay for street parking. The food is great here! My wife loves their beef tofu soup. I love their Meat Jun. it’s the best meat jun that I’ve ever had. Would highly recommend these 2 dishes. The food also comes with some sides such as broccoli, potatoes, kimchi, etc.

This restaurant was a last minute find for a large group of 14. We had one long table and a small table that fit 4. I didn’t expect that much given this Korean restaurant was situated in Japan town, but I was pleasantly surprised. We shared LA Galbi, Spicy Rice Cake with Ramen (pretty mid and not enough flavor), army stew (not enough broth), and Spicy Stir Fried Squid (which was the best out of all; sweet and spicy). The banchan were all tasty, esp the bean sprouts and pickled radish. Loved the makgeolli which paired well with everything we had. The service was okay; a bit slow but they were pretty busy so understandable. If you’d like to try Korean food, would recommend.
Nicole K — Google review
Omogari is popping here in the Japantown neighborhood and I was excited to dine here with some friends in their outdoor patio. With a long line for Korean food and indoor/outdoor seating, be sure to use the Yelp waitlist if you can to get ahead of the wait. They have classic Korean dishes with fairly generous portions from what I could tell. Limited veggie options (and you'll have to ask to make sure something can be fully plant-based/vegan), but I was happy to see they could make their Mushroom Sundubu with veggie stock. I ordered that spicy and it luckily also came with rice. The sundubu was fantastic and hit every note I could want from a tofu stew. Loved the veggies, the broth was not too salty, and the accompanied banchan was great with the meal. Service was also pretty fast considering how busy they were and they checked in on us for just the right amount of time. Thanks Omogari for a great dinner experience.

I recently dined at SJ Omogari in Japantown and was delighted by how familiar and satisfying everything felt. The spicy bulgogi was incredibly flavorful with a perfect blend of firm yet tender. The kimchi fried rice was extremely delicious! The Japchae was such a hit, almost all of it was gone before the main courses! Service was friendly and attentive, and I appreciated being able to sit outside on their new patio. Yes, there was a bit of a wait, but it moved quickly, and once I tasted the food, it was clear why this place stays popular. SJ Omogari is a delightful go-to for hearty Korean comfort food in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Had Omogari on my to-try for the longest time and finally got to visit for a weekend dinner. Had a 10min wait and we were seated inside! The interior is warm and inviting and service is great. We ordered the kimchi stew, bulgogi, and pork rib fondue. Our favorite was the bulgogi with its good meat quality, tender/juicy bite, and authentic flavor. Would recommend if you're in the area and craving some good Korean food! Parking: it was easy for us despite it being weekend dinner in JTown; we also appreciated the free street parking on Sundays.

Loved Omagari. We got a few dishes to split, such as the kimchi pancakes, the pork ribs, and the bulgogi. Loved all three, as well as the delicious banchan. Will definitely be back!

Went last night and this place is awesome. We came when it was busy and they got us in within 10 minutes. The place layout is kind of crowded with a bit smaller tables but it all worked out and the server helped organize our table. The food was very good, hit or miss with the Kimchi soup and with the rice bowl. They were nice enough to tell us that if we got rice we would get full faster which allowed us to eat more. LOVED the garlic sweet wings and the beef cheese dish. I thought it was sweet corn but maybe I didn’t order it but nevertheless it was hot and juicy. The food is a bit pricy but you get a lot of food for what you pay for. For a table of two you can expect it to be $60-100. Parking is limited, be careful about parking on the street because it’s a freight loading zone.

Peters' Bakery, a beloved establishment in San Jose, has been serving up delectable cakes and pastries since 1936. The bakery is renowned for its signature burnt almond cake, which is considered a must-have for birthday celebrations. In addition to this famous treat, Peters' Bakery offers a wide variety of artisan breads, Mexican wedding cookies, cream puffs, strawberry rings, and dinner rolls.
I had visited this bakery for a burnt almond cake many years ago. Today I came to get a piece. I was shocked to see a line of about 2O people and it took about 20 mins to get in. They invite people in order. The service was great. The person serving me answered all the questions and gave me recommendations. They were out of bear claws and lemon meringues. I got my favorite. Almond burnt cake. It was about 2.30pm on Saturday when I visited. Keep in mind that when you pay you are asked to pay tips 15%. 20%, 25%. Of course I paid the tips. It is the norm nowadays. The only thing I did not like I was said thanks for giving a tip.

This bakery has brought so much joy to so many people for so many years. There should be a special category for beloved long-standing institutions like this! My girlfriend had not been in this neighborhood in 30 years, and when she saw it still open and we had to stop. The place is small, and it was surprising to have to wait in line just to get in the door. It was not a long wait, but that says it all. Everything is delicious. The service is A1, and there is plenty of history.

Hands down one of my favorite bakeries in San Jose! I came 30 min before closing on a weekday and was surprised to see how many people were still coming in to get their Peters' Bakery fixes before they closed for the day. The burnt almond cake is my absolutely favorite because it's the perfect sweet treat that's also not overly sweet. I've gotten it in a full size cake form and also cupcake form which is nice cause I can still get my fix no matter how many people I'm catering to. There were other baked goods options that I will definitely try next time. The staff were also super friendly, nice, and speedy so I got in and out pretty quickly. Parking was easy-ish, but I can imagine it might be a little hard if it's super busy or if you come on the weekend.

I couldn't believe I fell in love with Peter's Bakery in San Jose. I came here in May to get my niece's wedding cakes and cookies. I ordered a couple of cupcakes on the side. The pastries were absolutely amazing. I would come back to get some more next time I am in the Bay Area.

I ordered a create your own chocolate cake. The online process was easy and when I called them to ask if I could pick up the cake slightly early, the girl I spoke to was very nice. However, parking was a nightmare, the employee in the bakery who checked me out was a bit rude, and the cake ended up being extremely dry. No one went back for seconds. Was not worth the hassle of going there or the money.

With must-try options such as palettas, oysters, and elote, Acopio guarantees satisfaction to its customers.
Today, by chance, the restaurant I was originally going to go to was closed, and I entered this place where I was curious as I passed by. The place I found while passing by looked like a bar, but when I searched, it said it was a fusion Mexican restaurant, so I thought I should visit it. I was looking forward to it because it looked very modern. The interior attracted attention with a very clean and sophisticated interior. I received the menu and didn't know much about Mexican cuisine, so I left the order to my husband. Thinking of as the owner, she was really kind and gave a careful explanation of the menu and we accepted most of her suggestions. As a result, it was really delicious. The dishes with the ingredients they made and their know-how felt different from the Mexican dishes they had tried so far. The dessert was perfect, and the duck dish in the pepper was a little spicy, so my husband liked it more. We were hungry after going to the gym, but we cleared all the plates. If you have anything to do near downtown, I strongly recommend you to visit.

Great twist on traditional Mexican food! Loved the roasted potatoes, they were very well done and crisp! Scallops, pork belly were amazing with textures and flavors. Desserts were exceptionally good especially the flan! Sooo good!

Modern Mexican food well executed! The puristic interior design creates a pleasant atmosphere, and the service was super friendly and attentive. The food was very good and fairly priced. The chicken milanesa was tasty but leaned more Western than Mexican, while the shrimp starter was delicious (though a bit too large with too much salad). In both dishes, there were slightly too many raw vegetables for my taste, which made them feel less delicate. The highlight for me was the dessert with soft cake and cream... absolutely extraordinary! The Mexican sangria soda was also refreshing and tasty. Overall, a great experience. I’ll definitely return — next time for a more traditional Mexican dish like the mole or tacos. Highly recommended!

We had dinner at the bar on a Friday night. This place is a great date spot! Lots of good cocktail and mocktail options. The guy at the bar recommended we stick to the happy hour menu for food which we did. We enjoyed the oysters, elote, potatoes, steak tacos and tres leches dessert. Service was perfect! I’d definitely come back.

It was a quiet night at Acopio. We had excellent attentive service without it being overbearing. The food was really wonderful. It was delicious, multi-layered, and inventive. Plus I felt each dish was generous, not a large portion but one that was perfectly satisfying. Except the churro with three ice creams which was a large portion, fabulous, and more than we could finish after everything else we tried. I will definitely order it again! Next time I want to try sitting at the bar during happy hour and enjoy that menu!! (5-6:30 daily and 5-9 on Sundays)

I had Acopio bookmarked for months and nearly forgot about it until I started thinking hard about where to take a guest from out of town. Acopio looked very appealing, but I didn't expect that a Mexican-fusion restaurant on the east side of San Jose would be Michelin-worthy. Acopio's space is very well-kept and designed both festively and elegant. The service was attentive and clearly a point of pride, a stark contrast from my inexplicable experience at True Laurel in SF last weekend where I waited for 30 minutes before a server came back to check on me. Each dish was artful, despite the simplicity of a dish such as Tacos Al Pastor, which consisted of pork confit, charred pineapple and fresh tortillas. The pork belly was marinated and seared to perfection. Together with a bit of tomatillo salsa, it was a unique elevated interpretation of Tacos Al Pastor that I'm already craving again. Each ingredient was meticulously marinated, charred and presented. The Tacos de Cachete was an interestingly textured dish, with pickled white onion pedals and beef cheek. A bit mushy but flavorful. On a second subsequent trip, I tried the Molé Poblano con Pierna de Pato & Chile Relleno. The duck was tender and perfectly seasoned. The molé was tangy and brighter than other molés that I have tried but it went well with the other components of the dish. The most impressive part was the Chile Relleno, which was made with a dried Pasilla chile that had a great chewy texture which was a pleasant surprise. It seemed more artfully crafted, would love to find out how they achieved that texture. The Coctel de Camarones had an unexpectedly familiar taste. Thai-style Tom Kha coconut and tomatillo broth with jicama and freshly peeled and de-veined prawns. Fantastic fusion dish. Finally, the chocolate churros and house-made Mexican chocolate ice cream also had a chili sauce on the ice cream with a nice kick to it. Acopio may be one of the finest restaurants in San Jose. It is a real gem that is doing Mexican fusion at the next level. Wholeheartedly recommended.

I enjoyed every morsel I savored here. Everything from the choice and placement of plates to the layered complexity of flavors of the dishes were intentionally made and were inspired. …and reasonable prices! My new favorite restaurant in San Jose.

This place did NOT disappoint. Stumbled here by accident going to another place. Food is absolutely authentic and delicious 🤤 Came here right before closing so not sure of a wait time during the day. The atmosphere is good and definitely a vibe! The posole was delicious with real homony as well as the flour tortillas🤤 All the food including the drinks were just bomb! In town visiting from out of state but I will DEFINITELY 👍🏽 be back if I ever come back to San Jose again! Now my expectations are high for other places because of this place. The restrooms were clean and limited to 2. Groups of 6 or more has a gratuity included in the bill. All staff was very attentive with a good attitude 👍🏽🥰

The fish taco and shrimp taco were excellent—fresh and flavorful. The ceviche was just okay, nothing special. Unfortunately, the sushi was disappointing and not something I’d recommend. Parking can be difficult to find, but the service was friendly

When you feel like tresting yourself and family to Mexican Seafood, this place (or one of its sister restaurants) is the place in San Jose to go. Check out the photos of their (newly redesigned) menu! You can maybe ignore the "Mexican Sushi" section 😂, but most of the rest is both authentic and creative. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food looks delicious, you might order more than you can finish!

Probably one of the best Mexican food seafood places I've ever been to. Their Molcajete Mixto is pure ecstasy. I also love how they give you a delicious shrimp broth as a starter. I also had their salmon and sushi on previous visits and they were yummy. The atmosphere is so inviting, especially the outside patio. TVs are there for entertainment and on occasion live performers. I come to this place as often as I can.

I had such a wonderful experience thanks to our server, Mirna Martinez. From the moment we sat down, she greeted us with a genuine smile and made us feel so welcome. She was attentive without being intrusive, knew the menu inside and out, and made great recommendations. Mirna went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect — our food came out just right, drinks were always refilled, and she checked on us often with such kindness and professionalism. It’s rare to find someone who truly enjoys what they do, and it really shows in her service. Thank you, Mirna, for making our visit so enjoyable! We’ll definitely be coming back and asking for you again. 🌟

Vietnamese restaurant
Bún Bò Huế An Nam is a modest Vietnamese restaurant in San Jose that specializes in serving the traditional spicy lemongrass-based noodle soup known as bún bò huế. Renowned for its flavorful broth, this eatery has garnered attention from food enthusiasts, including Andrew Zimmern of Bizarre Foods. The menu features simple yet satisfying options like pho and bún bò huế, with the latter being the star dish.
Got a large #5. Plenty of noodles and plenty of meat. Pho broth tasted good. Highly recommended in the area.
N C — Google review
I ordered the #1 Bun Bo Hue, and it came out in about 5 minutes. I've been here a few times over the past decade. Their broth can vary slightly from time to time, but overall, I think this is one of the best spots in the Bay Area for Bun Bo Hue. While the prices have gone up over the years, the portion sizes are still massive and packed with meat. The soup had a light lemongrass flavor, it wasn’t too spicy or salty. The meat was good, but this time around some of them weren't as tender as I expected it to be. They also provide a side of fresh veggies, shrimp paste, and sate (Vietnamese chili sauce). I added all the veggies to my soup while it was hot to soften them slightly. For a more savory flavor, I added a bit more shrimp paste. Just be careful not to add too much, as it can overpower the dish. Season to taste, add a bit and give it time for the flavors to kick in before adding more if needed. The same for the sate, I added more to give my soup an extra kick of spiciness.
Alex L — Google review
The Bún Bò Huế here is seriously next level. It’s packed with flavor without going overboard on the spice like a lot of other places do. I really appreciate that it strikes the perfect balance, just the right amount of heat and lemongrass without overpowering the broth. You can actually taste the depth in the soup. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem. Definitely coming back!
Ziling M — Google review
TLDR: just eat the bun bo hue! So good! It’s named that for a reason and they don’t go making a huge menu for all different tastes, there’s bun Bo hue and pho and that’s it! It’s because they are good at what they do and you should trust the chef. The soup noodles have a great flavor and tastes like a soup that’s been boiled for a long time. The meat is just right and the noodles were perfect consistency.
Wilson T — Google review
The Bun Bo Hue was good and spicy but was not amazing or spectacular for $18.50 per bowl for Large. I would give the food 7 to 8 out of 10. I think the service was slow where I had to go find & ask for the server to come to my table in the back to take my order and then also ask for the bill. I can see why they didn't have much tips in their tip jar due to this slow service. They also charge for a fee for take out containers like $0.50 for each one. I was shocked when I saw the bill and even over tipped them until I saw all their fees. Definitely read the bill, menu & all costs carefully when you dine at restaurants in Northern California Bay area. Restaurants in Garden Grove don't charge for take out containers and have more competitive prices.
YLK L — Google review
Large bowl - $18. The food tastes good, but it’s heavy on MSG.
AD — Google review
Another great recommendation from a friend. There are so many Vietnamese places to eat out here that I feel like you can't go wrong. The BBH here is better than most of the places back home for me. The flavor of the broth is great, and the quantity is also generous (maybe twice as much as what I'm used to). I also ordered a side of meat, not knowing how much protein was in the bowl. They have some fresh chili that you can add to make it spicier. One thing to remember that they only take cash or debit card (no credit cards).

Naschmarkt Restaurant in Campbell offers a delightful dining experience with its upscale Austrian cuisine. The menu, curated by Austrian-born chef Matthias Froeschl, features traditional dishes like Wiener schnitzel, quark spaetzle, and goulash. The cozy setting adds to the charm of this Modern European restaurant renowned for its authentic German and Austrian flavors.
Ok... I love it when you have high expectations of a place, and they meet and exceed them! I got the scallops, beet salad and goulash... Each item a memorable moment. But the goulash... it's perfection. Your mouth wants for nothing... Order it, you'll never be dissappointed... if you've had better, your Austrian Grand Mother must have been a wonderful cook!!!

Naschmarkt absolutely blew us away with its quality, presentation, and flavors. Every dish we tried was a standout. The creamy mushroom sauce with broccolini was rich and perfectly balanced, and the accompanying pasta was cooked to perfection. The scallops were beautifully seared and paired with a vibrant, sweet mango purée that made each bite pop. The arugula salad with feta and tomato sauce was fresh and flavorful—a great contrast of textures and tastes. Service was attentive and warm without being overbearing, and the ambiance was upscale yet relaxed. You can tell they put a lot of thought into both their menu and plating. Thanks for accommodating well after closing time. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion. We'll definitely be back!

I always look forward to coming here. The sausages are consistently excellent, and the shpetzel is fresh and uniquely flavorful. The service is always top-notch. However, the salads are just okay and could benefit from a more updated or creative touch.

This place is so good. Best pretzel you can find around here. The first time we came I got the schnitzel which was delicious, filling but not heavy. This last time we came I got the chicken pot pie which was great. The real star of the meal though was my drink, the "Sweet 'ol' fig fashioned" which was soooo delicious. Everything here has been great and we will definitely be back

Naschmarkt Restaurant in Campbell, California, is a culinary treasure that brings the flavors of Austria and Europe to the heart of the Bay Area. This charming eatery provides a warm, inviting atmosphere and exceptional service, making it a delightful spot for any dining occasion. During our visit, we enjoyed a variety of dishes that showcased the restaurant’s expertise in European cuisine. The Mushroom Soup was rich and velvety, with deep, earthy flavors that were both comforting and indulgent. It was a perfect starter, warming us up and setting the stage for the rest of our meal. The Goat Cheese Purse Salad was a fresh and flavorful start to our meal. The warm goat cheese, wrapped in delicate pastry, complemented the crisp greens and light vinaigrette beautifully, offering a harmonious blend of creamy, tangy, and crunchy elements. The Pretzel, served warm with a delicious cheese sauce, was a delightful addition. The pretzel was soft and perfectly salted, and the creamy cheese sauce provided a wonderful savory dip that made this simple appetizer feel special. The Jäger Schnitzel was another highlight. This dish featured a perfectly breaded pork cutlet topped with a savory mushroom sauce that was rich and earthy. The schnitzel was cooked to golden perfection, with a crisp exterior and tender interior, making every bite a pleasure. The Spätzle paired with Beef Goulash was a standout. The beef, cooked to tender perfection, was immersed in a rich and flavorful goulash sauce that was both hearty and comforting. The spätzle, soft and perfectly textured, served as an excellent accompaniment, soaking up the delicious sauce and adding a delightful chewiness to the dish. For dessert, the Salzburger Nockrl was exceptional. Served warm with and fluffy vanilla souffle with blueberry compote. It was a perfect end to our meal. The accompanying vanilla ice cream added a creamy contrast, enhancing the overall experience and leaving us thoroughly satisfied. In summary, Naschmarkt Restaurant offers an outstanding dining experience with its exquisite Austrian and European dishes, cozy ambiance, and excellent service. Each dish is crafted with care and attention to detail, ensuring a memorable meal. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a taste of Europe in the Bay Area!

Great spot for a date night. We ordered the pretzel, sausage of the day, beef goulash, apple strudel, and blueberry souffle. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The apple strudel is a must, it comes warm with a crispy crust served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and slivered almonds. Portions are not big, we easily finished everything we ordered with no leftovers. They have about 6 outside tables looking out to downtown Campbell.

Nice dining experience in the $40-$60 range. The service was excellent with quick and attentive service. The appetizers were a little small but the entrees were quite generous. We got the goulash, rouladen, Weiner schnitzel, and the pork belly. All of which were enjoyable with the goulash being our favorite. I would come back for sure.

Bò Né Phú Yên is a popular spot in Little Saigon, San Jose, known for its luxurious Franco-Vietnamese fusion dish featuring filet mignon served on a hot cow-shaped cast iron plate with sunny-side up eggs, pork meatball, pate, and onions. The meal comes with French bread and salad on the side along with a cup of chili sauce. Despite having only one item on the menu, it's highly recommended by locals and visitors alike.
Amazing food for an amazing price! My husband and I are both big eaters, but we were pretty full after sharing one bò né between the two of us for $20. My brother, sister-in-law, and mom shared a second bò né and almost had leftovers. The cow shaped sizzling plate was unique and very cool! My favorite part was the warm toasty bread that paired perfectly with the juicy tender steak and paté! Next time we'll definitely see if we can get two though since we were practically fighting over it. We went on a Monday around noon and it was about 20min wait in line before ordering, then about 15min for the food to come out. Absolutely worth the wait, but it's good to divide and conquer to pick up some apps (i.e. spring rolls) from places nearby/grab a table when one frees up! Food court is a bit small, but cleaner than I expected, with several bussers on standby.
Sugar V — Google review
Wow, stellar food. Everything was tender and seasoned deliciously. It's in a cafeteria, don't expect service. Only one egg due to increased egg prices sadly. 20 dollars cash.
Richard M — Google review
Bò Né Phú Yên is a solid spot for sizzling Vietnamese steak, offering filet mignon, eggs, pâté, and fresh baguettes on a hot iron plate. The rich flavors and tender meat make it a satisfying meal, and the presentation adds to the experience. The food court setting can be noisy, and seating is limited during busy hours, but the quality of the dish makes up for it. The portion sizes are fairly generous, making it a filling option for breakfast or lunch. However, some visits can be inconsistent, with slight variations in meat tenderness or seasoning. Despite that, the restaurant remains one of the better choices for Vietnamese sizzling steak in the area, especially for those who enjoy bold flavors and interactive dining experiences.
Jonathan P — Google review
I'd heard about this restaurant before from a friend of mine when I asked her to suggest me a good place to have Bo ne (Vietnamese beef steak) in San Jose. I finally came there with my family and the food satisfied all of us . It is interesting that they only have one item to order on the menu it is a must-try for everyone. I personally ordered mine cooked medium. The meat was tender. The flavor was addictive. It definitely surpassed my expectations. To accompany the steak, they also provided a sate soy sauce. Just remember to add it sparingly, as a little goes a long way. I especially like to eat their sour and sweet salad together with this dish since it enhanced the flavors perfectly. One thing to note is that they only accept cash, and the price is a flat $20 with no additional tax. The price appears to be pricey but they use expensive cut of meat so it makes sense for that price. I need to mention that this restaurant is located within the food court that have other restaurants there as well. Arriving at noon on a Saturday, I discovered that seating inside was limited and in high demand. While they do offer outdoor seating, the chilly weather prompted us to wait for an indoor spot. It took a bit of patience, as we kept a watchful eye for any available tables, ready to claim them before someone else did. This is a big downside because this kind of dish should only be for dine in - it tastes worse if you order it for to go for sure and it was stressful to look for seats and tables although we had no problem with parking. I took back one star due to this reason.

(Super late review, went here Feb 2024) My sister and friends from Dallas Tx came to visit and wanted to try some Viet breakfast food. I’ve been wanting to try this place so this was the time to try with everyone. It’s in a food court in a Vietnamese plaza. I wanna say it’s cash only, either way just bring cash. It’s 20 bucks per plate. We went on a weekday morning so it wasn’t packed at all, and the food court was very quiet lol. The plates were quickly made by an uncle aged gentleman and the woman handled the money and orders. The plates were all sizzling, and the eggs are all sunny side up, if you like your eggs more done, the hot plate will eventually get it cooked thru. This dish is made for runny yokes, so I wouldn’t recommend waiting to your yokes to be cooked thru. The banh mi (baguette) was fresh and warm, had the perfect crunch and crisp. The plates come with a meat ball, beef, and pâté. There’s a side salad and a full baguette. The proteins to me could be flavored a bit more, they tasted one note. Otherwise, the experience and food as a whole was decent. Bottom line: Good to try out at least once.
An K — Google review
To be upfront the meal is $20 for an order of the famous Bo Ne. The chef is very nice and makes each meal to order. It's a generous amount with a side salad, fresh and crispy bread and the sizzling beef cooked to either medium rare or rare. The beef is very tender and flavorful, the side of the pate spread is a unique flavor but a bit on the sweeter side. Everything about the meal compliments one another and it is one of the best Bo Ne I've had in a while.
Momo — Google review
I've tried a few Bo Ne places but this one is my absolute favorite! Bo Ne Phu Yen is located inside a food court at Lion Plaza. They specialize in the Bo Ne and I can definitely see why! This is a great spot for casual eating. They are cash only and at $20, you can get Bo Ne (Shaking Beef) with lettuce, bread, and tea all included. The beef is very tender and soft that you can use a spoon to cut through it. How I usually eat Bo Ne is by taking the bread and dipping it in all the sauce, add a bit of egg, onion, pate, beef, and then take a bite out of it. This spot does not skimp out on the pate. The lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber helps to cleanse your palate as needed and I like how hot tea was also included. Since this is located in a plaza, there is a lot of parking, but it can get busy over the weekends. One thing I would recommend is to also include a plastic knife as a utensil to cut the beef since the utensils we were given were a pair of chopsticks, a spoon, and a fork.

Goodtime Bar is a unique wine bar located in downtown SJ, offering a cozy and upscale atmosphere reminiscent of Saratoga or Los Gatos. The bar serves exquisite appetizers that leave patrons craving for more, although the prices can be a bit steep. With a focus on natural wines, the owner Steven is passionate about recommending selections to guests. The relaxed and chill vibe of the bar, accompanied by good music, makes it an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy quality wines.
This bar is a great spot if you’re looking for a laid-back place with a good vibe. I went on a Saturday night, and even though it was busy, the service was very friendly, especially the bartender who recommended an excellent wine. The food menu is small, but the wine list is extensive, which is perfect for anyone who loves to explore different options. If you’re not a wine expert, the staff will suggest some good picks. The patio is super cozy, and the music, though not too loud, adds to the atmosphere. Overall, I had a great time, definitely living up to the bar’s name.

This is probably the only place I go to in the South Bay area, to have natural wine and literally a 'good time'. I only drink natural wine, and it's difficult to find a decent natural wine place in the area. Always a great selection of bubble, white, rose, orange and red, and the food they have just amazingly pairs well with the wine. They had steak tartar when I stopped by most recently, and wow, it was just amazing. Not pretentious, but seriously good tartar with some nori and shiso toppings on. Love this place.

What a perfect name for this spot because you will for sure have a good time at Goodtime Bar. Stopped by here with a friend a couple weeks ago for an early dinner and I had a fantastic time. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, and the food was even better! I grabbed a glass of white wine (delish!) and the yuzu spritz. The spritz was fantastic! I feel like this would be perfect on a spring or summer evening with a few plates. We grabbed the chips and dip, deviled eggs, prawns, and fingerling potatoes. The highlights were for sure the potatoes and prawns, especially the potatoes! I can't wait to come back when the weather is a bit warmer. Service: 5/5 Food/Drinks: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Wanted to grab a bite after seeing a comedy show at Improv- and we are tired of the usual bar offerings. This place has a few tables indoors & small outdoor patio w heat lamps, hella friendly security guard out front tending to folks in patio. Music inside was good but we sat outside to be able to talk. Food was surprisingly good- pea sprout salad, patatas bravas, deviled eggs - SO much fresher & tastier than one normally can eat late night. Clean tidy restroom & next to a parking lot & beautiful murals.

Mochinut is a unique dessert spot that offers a variety of treats, including mochi doughnuts, Korean rice-flour hotdogs, and bubble tea drinks. Located in the lively San Pedro Square Market, it provides an immersive experience with live entertainment and local artwork. The Mochi Corn Dog is a standout item, featuring a crispy batter and chewy mochi for a delightful twist on the classic corn dog.
What a fun stop inside the huge San Pedro Square Market. Fresh donuts made to order. You can see the available varieties in the display window, then use the self-serve kiosk to place your order. Our order came out pretty quickly. And we finished almost as fast! We had the church, original, and raspberry mochinuts. Delicious!

Months ago, on a whim I tried my first mochi donut here in a bustling San Jose food hall. It was delightfully chewy, slightly crispy, and possessed a sweetness delicately balanced with rich flavor. Ever since that day I've tried a mochi donut at every opportunity in my travels, and thus far have only tasted bitter disappointment. It's all overly sweet, flavorless, processed slop compared to that original proto-donut. I may never experience such gooey joy again. It haunts me. Corn dog was pretty good too.

Glutinous flour based donuts. Yum! Not for everyone because of their chewy nature, but beautiful and tasty with a nice mix of unique flavors like matcha. Pricier than regular donuts though. Order via a kiosk at the booth, or on your smartphone.

Mochinut is a must-visit for anyone who loves unique and delicious treats. The Mochi Corn Dog is a game-changer, combining the chewy texture of mochi with the savory goodness of a classic corn dog. The batter is perfectly crispy, while the mochi adds a delightful twist to this popular dish. Each bite is a burst of flavor that will leave you craving more. The presentation is also top-notch, with each corn dog looking almost too pretty to eat. The staff at Mochinut are friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Whether you're a fan of mochi, corn dogs, or just good food in general, Mochinut is definitely worth a visit. Don't miss out on this unique culinary adventure!

So my family and I came down here from Sacramento on Sunday to celebrate a birthday. San Pedro Square is a cool spot in SJ that has multiple food and drink options, as well as live music. We all had a good time, and everyone had fun, except for out experience at Mochinut. Towards the end of our celebritation, the kids wanted to explore inside the building. I took them inside, where we immediately noticed that the ice cream place was shut down, which was kind of a bummer. The only other place we found inside was Mochinut, so we decided to give it a shot. My kids picked out what they wanted, and we waited for one of the two ladies working behind the counter to take out order. At one point,my five year old rang the little service bell, mostly just because she like the sound of it. One of the ladies behind the counter (a younger African American girl) looked over at me sideways like we had no right to be there. I said sorry, and we continued to patiently wait, without much acknowledgement. After waiting for about 8-10 minutes, the same girl acknowledged us again, and had a little attitude on her. She wasn't very good at projecting her voice, but was great at projecting her funky little attitude. She appeared to say that we needed to order on the touch screen instead of having her taking like 30 seconds to take our super complicated order of three donuts to go. She could have said that several minutes ago, and done it without treating us like dirt. It's not our fault you have to work on a Sunday, sweety. Most of use have been there. Stop acting like an ass. The way this girl responded, I didn't even want to give them my money, and we left. It actually served as a great lesson for my kids. Never give your time, money, or attention to someone who's being disrespectful to you. We ended up going to the Gelato shop in the other building, where the employee there was super cool, took our order right away, and even let my kids get some free samples. The experience there more than made up for the little girl at the donut shop with a salty attitude. Thumbs up to the Gelato shop for great service and ice cream. BIG thumbs down to Mochinut for the crappy non-serive with a side of disrespect.

We live in Monterey and have been waiting to try these Mochi donuts. I'm so happy we decided to go here! The self check out was so quick 👍🏼 I didn't realize the rice (Korean) corn dog was there as well!! Our first bite of the donuts were warm crispy and chewy 😋🤤 And the corn dog was just as good! See you next time !

Het Say is a pop-up food spot in San Jose run by DuyAn and Hieu Le, offering unique southern Vietnamese cuisine. Their menu includes air-dried sausages, fermented fish sauces, and chili oils made from scratch. The food is known for its freshness and personal touch. Customers can expect a rotating menu with some staple dishes that are not commonly found outside of Vietnamese households. The atmosphere is described as having a food truck vibe with friendly service.
If you’re into quaint, quirky, and delicious spots, this place is a must-try. I was headed to another restaurant when I happened to walk by and decided to try them out. So glad I did! The pork belly and shoulder Banh Mi sandwich was amazing. The service was friendly and informative as well. Highly recommend!

This is one of my family’s favorite restaurants in the world!!! The staff is incredibly friendly and sweet, the food is out of this world, and the presentation is so nice! It has charming outdoor seating and is so cute! We recently moved to this area and were searching for a nice lunch spot when we found this place. The location is a bit hidden, so you won’t see it on the main street, but the food is absolutely amazing. I 100% recommend coming here.

Not the typical Vietnamese/American fare you get in this region, but cooked with a lot of skill and craft. Come with an open mind. Menu rotates weekly with a few staples. These are rare dishes seen outside of Viet houses.

I can't believe the 1 star reviews, they must have expected Michelin restaurant experience instead of a local restaurant featuring authentic food, which is exactly what it is. This place is DELICIOUS, yes it is a small setting with outdoor seating, they're kind and happy to serve their homemade delicious food. Service is quick, food is yummy, there are games right there (fusbol table, pingpong, checkers and chess) to play while you wait for your food or when you're done. We tried the 3 meals they had on a Sunday and we all loved them (including our kids).

I got a braised pork bahn mi and Vietnamese coffee. Both were excellent and delicious. Coffee is a bit small but delicious. Atmosphere is great but the park next to it is fenced off for construction as of this review. Will be great once park is open.

Ordered takeout using their website listed on Google Maps, not sure what the other reviews are on about. Food was excellent, fresh and made quickly when we arrived to pick up. They don't make the food ahead and have it sit so keep that in mind. I will definitely be back to see what else is on the menu! Thanks Het Say!

Not the usual definition of a restaurant. It is more like a food truck with outdoor tables. The "restaurant" has a couple of tables outside on a driveway next to a contruction site. Check the google location and Streetview carefully! Outdoor only seating without cover or heating in the winter next to the dust of a construct site is not pleasant. Wasted my time driving there.

My husband introduced me to this place when they had pop ups at the rose garden farmers market and they have been so consistently good! So excited they have a new location. We got the banh mi, noodle soup, and sausage pastry and all were delicious as always. Their food is different and interesting - in a great way.

Mariscos El Aguachile 8 is a must-visit seafood truck located in San Jose, conveniently parked at a gas station. This vibrant food spot is renowned for its fiery offerings, featuring an impressive range of spice levels that can challenge even the most seasoned spice lovers. The owner, Jose Pepe Rodriguez, suggests sticking to level three for those who want to enjoy the flavors without overwhelming heat.
My in laws always ask to go here when they visit from Mexico because it’s better than the aguachiles in Mexico! It’s better than any restaurant. If you like spicy fresh seafood this is the place! As a bonus they only serve high quality tostadas too. Cash only. Owner is awesome! There’s some covered outdoor seating in front of the truck

The mariscos here will bring you back to LIFE. A must go to cure a cruda. The osteones preparados were 20/10! Aguachiles were spicy, but very good. Portions were adequate with prices. Aguachiles plate can feed up to 4 people for sure. Seating is outdoors in a spacious tent.

Not even close. The best Aguachile available. Bring cash & BYOB. Aquachile needs time for raw seafood to sit in lime juice and "cook", so, it'll take 15-20 minutes before your order is ready. Absolutely worth the wait! This single order was way more than two of us could finish. It included 2 kinds of shrimp, scallops, oysters and octopus in a black sauce. Really exceptional.
Reuel W — Google review
Delicious food truck! We got the aguachiles with green salsa with cooked shrimp, but the owner was so nice and decided to make us a mixed plate with some salsa roja! The sweetest! If you are able to handle spice I would say get a level 3 but if not don’t since it was a little spicy for my friends. Also make sure to bring cash since they don’t accept card payments! There is an ATM in the gas station that it is parked in though and across the street there are several stores that do cash back.
Mariel C — Google review
I've been seeing this place all over my Instagram so I decided to check them out. The owner Pepe was so nice and the food was amazing. I will say I whimped out at spice level 2 since they go all the way to spice level 12. But this is definitely a great place to come with a beer (BYOB) and hangout with the community.

For such a higher end place was very disappointing. Sat at bar for cocktails and appetizers. Wife tried to order two different glasses of wine from menu which they didn’t have but they had the third. Ordered baked bre which comes with only a forks to share. No crackers or crustini. Asked the bar tender and he look at us like sorry no. I explained that I’ve never ordered baked bre where you only get to share it with only a forks. So crazy! At least I know now not to come back. Wow!! Plus this place is expensive.

Our experience at The Grill on the Halley was memorable from start to finish. The ambience is a blend of modern sophistication with a cozy touch, making it perfect for both intimate dinners and celebratory gatherings. We began our evening at the bar, where the selection of distinct wines impressed us. The knowledgeable bartender guided us through their offerings, ensuring we started with the perfect wine. Once inside the restaurant, the atmosphere remained warm and inviting, with attentive service enhancing our dining experience. The menu boasts an array of enticing dishes, highlighting high-quality ingredients. We started with a Beef Carpaccio. While it was presented beautifully and tasted exquisite, the portion seemed rather small for sharing. For those with a hearty appetite, ordering an additional appetizer might be wise. The Caesar Salad was more appropriately sized for sharing and featured crisp, fresh ingredients with a delightful dressing. It was a great precursor to the main courses. For our entrees, we had the Filet Mignon and the New York steak. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavor. The Filet Mignon, in particular, was a standout, offering a melt-in-your-mouth experience that truly highlighted the quality of the beef. Overall, The Grill on the Halley offers a top-notch dining experience with a well-curated menu and an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere. It's a great spot for enjoying a fine meal with family and friends. Probably the best wine list in San Jose Downtown, featuring a remarkable selection of notable wines. Although the prices can be quite steep, you can still enjoy a variety of exquisite wines without breaking the bank. For a more affordable experience, consider choosing wines by the glass to savor the variety and quality.

Very rarely do I give a full 5 Star rating. This Resto impressed our party of three. Everything about our dining experience was fantastic. Paul, our server, went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and taken care of throughout the meal. He was a wealth of knowledge with a great sense of humor. The other staff was so helpful and professional as well. Our food was delicious to the last bite and very well presented. We started with fresh baked warm bread and butter and some crispy Calamari. For our Entrées we enjoyed the Nordic Halibut with Brussel Sprouts, Australian Lamb Chops with Lobster Mac-n-Cheese and a perfectly cooked medium rare 8oz. Flat Iron Steak with Miso Glazed Asparagus. Followed by a spongy yet delectable Japanese Cheesecake that was first released to us that night. Also we devoured a scrumptious Blood Orange Bread Pudding. We all agreed that we should have ordered two of those! I treated myself to a Highland Park 12 Scotch served neat that complimented my meal perfectly.

The Grill - review This is a great alternative to Flemings. You’ll love it here if they are fully staffed. The food is really good and the ambiance is great. You can also sit outdoors for a sunny meal with a breeze. This is an anniversary dinner type of place. It’s a place where you have an important meeting. Lots of lawyers hang out here. The prices are such to attract a certain crowd. If you’re looking for exclusivity, it’s your place. Drinks are very strong. Highly recommend the old fashioned Bread is hard and butter is not softened. Ordered lobster bisque but not much lobster in it, not even one small tail of lobster. It is very tasty and rich. It’s delicious. Crab cake looks awful but tastes amazing. Very poor and lazy plating. No pride was taken in the presentation. Pinot Grigio tastes delicious. Parking - little to none Time to be acknowledged immediately Time to be seated - 5 min , very understaffed One group of four gentlemen sat down and then actually left before even getting service because there’s only the bartender helping out everyone in the bar area. Currently 7 customers. They would have made 11. Missed opportunity. 145p arrival on a Monday The host got there at 1:51pm Time to take my order 10 min later Time to get water 10 minutes Time to get drink 13 minutes Time to get appetizer 2:06pm Time to get bread and crab cake 2:08 I will return here but only for a special occasion.

Din Tai Fung is a popular chain of Taiwanese restaurants with elevated dim sum and Asian dishes served in bustling quarters. The restaurant has branches in many malls around the United States, including Valley Fair Mall. The waiters are courteous and helpful, making it a simply wonderful experience.
The ambiance is sleek, modern, and very bright. It's busy, but the layout is organized, and the energy is buzzing. It's a high-volume restaurant, yet the service is truly exceptional, highly polished, attentive, and incredibly fast. They manage the flow like a well-oiled machine, ensuring you're never waiting long once seated and your table is always clean. It's impossible to come here and not get the Xiao Long Bao (XLB), and they are, without question, the best soup dumplings in the world. The photo and video show those perfectly pleated little parcels, each one filled with savory broth and tender filling. You can see the delicate wrapper holding all that juicy goodness. I also absolutely loved the Pork Chop Fried Rice; the rice is fluffy and light, and the pork chop is perfectly seasoned and tender. It’s simple food done flawlessly. To round things out, we ordered a side of Sauteed String Beans with Garlic, which were fresh, vibrant, and provided a great contrast to the rich dumplings. Din Tai Fung isn't just a meal; it's an experience. If you love dim sum and Taiwanese cuisine, this is the destination. I'm already planning my next trip back!

Finally! We got to finally try Din Tai Fung after hearing about it for such a long time and then waiting for some more in the wait-list Was it worth the 2 hours wait? As a vegetarian person, don't think so! But other than that, it was good. Service was so prompt and staff was friendly and kind. Ambiance was pretty noisy and one could hear everything from the next table, I heard a discourse from other table on Sabrina vs Taylor and learned a few things :D We got vegan noodles in sesame sauce and loved the texture, vegan wontons were in a spicy sauce and mixing the both tastes actually worked better for me than individualy. Husband enjoyed their signature dumplings. It was a good place for one time dinner, might not wait for 2 more hours again for this meal unless they introduce more vegetarian options :)

Din Tai Fung never disappoints! The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. The dumplings are perfection delicate, juicy, and packed with flavor and everything from the noodles to the sautéed greens tastes like comfort in a bowl. Service is always friendly and efficient, and the whole experience feels organized even when it’s busy. The wait can be a little long sometimes, but once the food arrives, it’s totally worth it. Overall, such a satisfying spot. simple, delicious, and consistently great every single time.

Great choice for chinesse food inside the mall! It’s usually busy so make sure to make a reservation, you can also seat at the bar, first come first served. They have a lot of options including vegetarian, the wine list is well selected and the food is really tasty. The place is clean and well decorated, you can see the staff at the kitchen preparing food from the outside, very clean. Located at ground floor. The cucumber salad is a must so are the noodles, the taro buns are really good for dessert. You will like your visit here!
AO D — Google review
Dining at Din Tai Fung was an absolute delight. The hand-made noodles had that perfect, satisfying chew and were seasoned beautifully—flavorful without ever feeling heavy or salty. The soup dumplings were the highlight: perfectly plump, filled with rich, aromatic broth that bursts with every bite. Even the vegetables stood out—so fresh, thoughtfully marinated, and clearly prepared with care. We arrived about twenty minutes before opening and were fifth in line. By the time we were seated, the line had stretched far behind us—and now I understand why. Every dish was worth the wait. Come hungry, because you’ll want to try everything on the menu.

The soup dumplings/xiao long bao are always so consistently good at Din Tai Fung. It tastes pretty much the same as the original in Taiwan. I always love their fried rice (either the shrimp or the fried pork chop fried rice). The only issue I have is that there’s always a long line and there’s no DTF closer to SF 😭. The bar is the best option for walk ins. But if you’re in Seattle, there are so many branches there.

We want to Din Tai Fung on 9/28. After a four hour wait (we put ourselves on the waitlist early luckily), we got in and were excited to eat the food. We ordered a bunch of vegetarian stuff including the buns, wontons, noodles, etc. Everything came timely and tasted delicious. The buns were the last to arrive and when we took a bite of it, it tasted like impossible meat. When we asked the staff, they said it was pork… mind you that my partner and I have never ever in our life had any kind of meat, even accidentally, and we had pork that day due to the staff’s overlook. It was extremely disappointing and our hearts sank :(( the manager came and apologized saying they ensure everything vegan has some form of green indication on it to avoid such mishaps. And while it was nice to see some empathy and their attempts to ensure the mixing of meat w veg food doesn’t happen, that doesn’t change what happened to us. They should definitely inform vegetarian people to look out for the green markings. Anyways, we left the restaurant after w a sour taste in our mouth :( super unfortunate and terrible experience.

The Bamboo (Mango and Passion Fruit Mousse) was my favorite and I would definitely get it again. I enjoyed every part of it. You will not regret choosing this cake. The Le Sultan (Hazelnut Cake) was good but the lemon cream felt like it didn't belong, and the biscuit and crunch was a bit hard. The Tiramisu is delicious; it had a good amount of coffee flavor but not a fan of the lady finger. The Banana Crunchy was good except the banana caramel which tasted more like rotten bananas than fresh bananas. The pecan crunch was a nice touch. The Vanilla Milkshake Tart tasted like vanilla ice cream on a tart.

Fun dessert shop to share cakes and coffee. It wasn't too busy, we got two tables to fit 8 of us. We ordered 4 slices of cake and black coffee with sides of cream. The items were plated quickly as well as the coffee. The cakes were tasty, not too sweet. You can taste the fruits in the cakes we choose. Service was nice and efficient. It is our go-to dessert usually after dinner at a nearby restaurant.

I recently stopped by Cocola Bakery at Santana Row and was genuinely impressed. Their strawberry croissant is exceptional — beautifully flaky, golden layers with a real fruit flavor that tastes fresh, not overly sweet. The balance between buttery pastry and light strawberry filling is perfect. The café itself feels elegant and relaxed, with friendly service and a nice spot to sit and enjoy coffee. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality easily justifies it. Even as a first-time visitor, it’s clear why this bakery has such a strong reputation. Cocola is worth the stop — especially if you appreciate a perfectly made croissant.

Stopped by Cocola at Santana Row right at opening on a Saturday. No crowd at all, which made it a relaxing start to the day. I got a hot mocha, the flavor was average, but the portion size was generous and the price surprisingly affordable for Santana Row. Tried the mushroom croissant and was really pleased. it had a nice savory umami flavor. Also had a pistachio croissant, which was decent but tasted like it wasn’t made fresh that morning. Pastries are on the pricier side and the quality is average. Service was fast and the baristas were friendly. Outdoor seating was lovely, and there’s plenty of parking, but it’s only free for the first two hours.

Cocola is one of my favorite spots at Santana Row for great desserts and coffee. The atmosphere in the evening is perfect — relaxing outside with a drink while enjoying all the activity around the Row. I especially love their Chai Latte, and the desserts are always delicious. The Boiling Crab is a popular seafood restaurant chain known for its boiled-in-bag Cajun-spiced shellfish, including crawfish, oysters, and shrimp. Located in San Jose, CA, this casual dining spot offers a unique experience where customers can choose their preferred level of spiciness for the sauce. The standout feature is having your seafood served in a bag mixed with flavorful sauces.
First time trying this seafood boil after hearing rave reviews about them! This was the BEST and most efficient seafood meal I’ve ever encountered. Service is top notch, ordering was simple, and it was quite an experience getting your hands dirty. I often complain about places labelling items as spicy when it’s not… I was wildly impressed that their spice levels are actually spicy! The fries were a great pair to the seafood and I had zero complaints or concerns about this entire dining experience. Can’t wait to come back!

I’m absolutely in love with The Boiling Crab! From the moment I walked in, the cool marina-style ambiance made it feel like a seafood lover’s paradise. As a first-timer, the friendly and helpful staff made sure I understood the menu and how everything works, which was a great touch. Now, onto the food—everything was delicious! The sweet potato fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned, and the fried oysters were fresh and golden. My absolute favorite was the shrimp with garlic butter—so flavorful and cooked to perfection! But the highlight had to be the King Crab with Shabang Sauce—an explosion of flavors that’s a must-try for any seafood lover. I also had a margarita, which paired perfectly with the meal and added a refreshing kick. If you love seafood, this place is a dream come true. I can’t wait to go back and indulge in more! Highly recommend! 🦀🍤🍹

Nice seafood spot. They do get very busy. We planned to dine in, but after seeing the wait list, we decided to take it to go. It was easy to place a pick-up order. They gave us bibs, utensils, gloves, and table covers! Lots of seating inside and cool decorations.

While out touring properties in San Jose, we decided to stop by Boiling Crab for an early dinner. The wait wasn't bad, considering it was around 3 PM and they open at 2pm, we only had to wait about 20 minutes. What i like J’s as we wait we are able to enjoy a drink of our choice while waiting for a table. The food was delicious, although I noticed that the shrimp bags seemed to have less sauce this time around. It felt like they had reduced the amount of sauce, prompting us to order extra sauce for an additional charge, which wasn't a big issue, but it was a noticeable difference compared to previous visits. Despite this, the overall service was exceptional, as always. The waitress was consistently friendly and attentive throughout our meal. One interesting observation was that they allowed a lady to sell balloons to customers, which provided a unique form of entertainment, especially for children. Overall, I definitely recommend this spot. Arriving earlier to beat the crowd and minimize wait times is advisable, given that they open at 2 PM.

Andrew, who handled our takeout order, did the best damn job of anyone ever handing me a takeout bag. He showed me our order item by item, asked what condiments we wanted, and packed it up neatly. All while I was distracted by my daughter calling the hanging model of a shark "Baby Shark" over and over. While this level of service should be the norm everywhere, let's cherish Andrew and hope we can all learn from him. Society would be better for it. The food was bomb, too.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Crab Delight, a gem specializing in Louisiana-style crab dishes. From the moment I walked in, the lively ambiance and friendly staff set the tone for an unforgettable meal. The crab boil was the star of the show, bursting with perfectly balanced Cajun spices that brought out the sweetness of the fresh crab. The crab cakes were also a standout, crispy on the outside and tender inside, packed with fresh crab meat. The portions were generous, and every bite was a delight. The attentive service made the experience even better, ensuring we had everything we needed. For anyone craving authentic Louisiana cuisine, Crab Delight is a must-visit.

Despite recent news of its closure, patrons can still enjoy specialty espresso drinks, cafe fare, and wine while taking in the cozy atmosphere.
Very spacious that you don’t need to worry about not having a seat. Nice environment and good taste of the coffee. They even have a piano for customers to play. Love the place.

The place looks great and had a cool feel to it. The coffee was good too. The service was bad though. They were open and I think they were eating breakfast when I walked in. The person that helped me seemed annoyed she had to get up to help me. No greeting or smile. She probably should of had a cup of coffee. The raspberry something looks good but was super sugary and Dry.

Great coffee shop. House blend is smooth and mellow. Plenty of space to work and hang out. There is even an upstairs area with a huge skylight.

I'll start by saying that the customer service was great.. the staff were very nice. The food and general service was very poor. Coffee wasn't great and definitely over priced, as well as the sandwich I had being stale and old... and over priced. Overall... if there's nothing else around you can come here for a small meal but... if you have other options I suggest you take them.

Caffe Frascati instantly felt like home to me. Being new to San Jose, I have tried a few cafes and coffee shops looking for one that is a perfect fit for my tastes. Here the environment is casual, the furniture is Woody and cozy, and the tea is delicious. I haven't yet had any espresso here, but it smells amazing. As I write a musician is setting up to play in the corner, and another patron is gazing over the mezannine rail sipping coffee and typing away at a laptop. If you've been to school in New Orleans, you might know about the Neutral Ground. This is the closest cafe I've found to capturing the personality of that perfect place.

Tuesday night open mic night is a blast. The coffee is great and so is the service. Also just has a really great vibe, best coffee place in San Jose by far.

I had an hour to spend while waiting for my next activity and needed a space to enjoy a cup of tea and get a little work done. This was the perfect spot! Good food/drink, service, and atmosphere. As a fan of The Office and Parks and Recreation, I loved seeing the photos of Asiz Ansari and Creed. :)

I only wish I were here when they do live music. Nice clean place with good coffee and what not. Reasonable prices and cozy atmosphere (especially on the loft level)

American restaurant
Scramblz is a lively and popular breakfast and lunch spot known for its American breakfast classics served in a cheerful dining room or on the patio. The restaurant offers a fun, retro atmosphere with quirky decor, including a converted VW bus parked inside. Their menu features traditional favorites like eggs Benedict and blueberry pancakes, as well as creative items such as campfire potatoes and hot cheesecake waffles.
What I appreciate about this establishment is the ambiance upon entering. It evokes a sense of familiarity and comfort, enhanced by the welcoming staff. The menu is remarkably affordable, offering substantial portions for the price. Furthermore, they continue to provide Groupon discounts. Overall, I highly recommend this establishment and intend to return in the future!

Great experience furing non busy hours. Service was fast and kind. Food was well prepared, and serving sizes was good. Salsa on the side was delicious.

Very tempted to break my no 5 on first time visits Very friendly service, good coffee and a large menu to choose from Has the house hash: Campfire potatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, onions, and peppers. Topped with cheddar cheese & scrambled eggs. Not heart healthy but I needed a comfort food fix Really good added the healthy veggies. My suggestion on that, dice up the kale more, cook first before adding the rest Partner had Tijuana omelette: fluffy omelet with pinto beans, Jack cheese, and roasted salsa topped with avocado She really loved it. Ate half took rest home. As you can see the House Hash did not survive the encounter.

Food is just terrible. I could write a lengthy review about my families visit... but suffice it to say it was very poor. I appreciate your concern. To be more specific. Meal 1 NY omelet no filling, but a very small portion cooked into the eggs. Literally 1 tiny slice of sausage...one. and almost no diced thin sliced ham. It was mostly just egg. Meal 2 biscuit eggs and gravy... just a giant mound of tasteless glop. My granddaughter took one bite only, and we didn't even take it to go. Meal 3- gave us the wrong specials... so had to come back and retake the order. Then ordered the chorizo special. Chorizo was pretty much absent. But the little bit that was there was very bad... like the cheap tube stuff you buy. Over all the food was just pretty bad. We paid and took nothing to go. Cinnamon roll was nothing but bread with almost no cinnamon gooy stuff you enjoy.

We were seated right away. Friendly staff as soon as we walked in. Incredibly fast service. We took more deciding what to order than the food coming out. The food overall was really good and reasonably priced. Would recommend.

Place smelt like sewer when we opened the door to the restaurant. The workers didn't seemed bothered by it. Someone left and said she needed fresh air. I wanted to leave but couldn't. Food was good at least and we didn't get sick the next day. Our food server was really nice and quick. The smell has got to go though
Connie B — Google review
Update: Pros: a gentleman who seemed in charge of servers was so attentive and accommodating my egg order for my daughter who is allergic to egg whites. Spacious interior with fun decoration, a bus that is interesting for kids to sit in and have food. You can reserve it to make sure your kids don't get disappointed when you get there. Good selection of food. Good portion size. Impressed how fresh side veggies were. Liked the fresh orange juice. Cute patio. The overall taste and quality of the food was just ok. Cons: poached egg was hard-boiled! Servers were hard to find. 2 stars Pros: nice outdoor seating Cons: limited menu, the kids pancakes(mickey mouse) were the most boring and least nutritious of all: not visually cute, only three small pieces of fruit on top of three thick pancakes. They charged me extra for replacing one type of meat for another in my order, while both were on the Sides list!

Korean barbecue restaurant
Gen Korean BBQ House is a trendy local chain that offers an interactive dining experience where you can grill your own meats at the table. The restaurant provides a modern setting and serves up ban-chan, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for diners. With its all-you-can-eat option, patrons can enjoy grilling pork belly, beef brisket, spicy rice cake, or squid to their heart's content. Located in North Valley, this spot has become a favorite among locals for its delicious barbecue offerings.
Good experience at Gen. Gabriel was very attentive & quick with everything, friendly & nice even though he had many tables. They should clean the floor more thoroughly, it's so slippery due to grease. And the kitchen should wash the scissors better, they need a good soaking before washing to get the grease & food residue out. Food is great & marinated nicely. The beef fingers were very good with a dip of sesame oil before grilling. Honey beef belly, galbi of course, and calamary steak. I don't recommend the calamary rings and premium steak, #1 on the list, no marble, so tough even cooked medium & smelled off. I like that they have the rice paper & radish.

One star for the host at the front when we came in. She was extremely dismissive when we came in during lunch time to eat lunch. Sorry for interrupting your conversation with your coworkers. But if you don’t like to work here, don’t work here. Our actual server was great. He did his best running around to help as many tables as possible. The food came relatively fast and beer came cold. Our section of Tables were tightly aligned which probably made it easier for servers and food runners, but definitely did not provide as comfortable of an experience as you would have hoped. All in all, it was alright

FOOD tbh i only like the honey soy beef belly. its the only thing i order when i go. tried hawaiian steak and garlic pork belly. hawaiian steak was a little too sweet for me and the garlic pork belly was a little too salty (you need to eat it with rice) SERVICE lowkey service is really slow. i went during lunch and they only had one cook in the kitchen??? plates were served pretty slow (5-10 min wait). also they ran out of brisket and beef belly because they beeded to freeze the meat and slice it. confused on why they dont do it the night before. also no salad??? ENVIRONMENT sticky floors. pretty cold.

What happened to this place? We ate here today because my son loves Gen BBQ, but it was such a disappointment. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t even busy. We were seated by a lady not in uniform (maybe a manager?), and she took our order without writing anything down. Not surprisingly, three of our items never arrived. Meanwhile, several staff members were just standing around chatting instead of helping customers including the lady who seated us. I raised my hand multiple times and was completely ignored. When we finally got someone’s attention, we had to reorder, but the meat took forever to arrive, and even then, not everything came. What did come out looked low quality. By then, we had waited so long we lost our appetite. We ended up canceling the rest, walked to the counter to pay (since who knows how long it would take for the check), and left. Never coming back.

Fun location, plenty of food, great service and good prices. Overall we enjoyed our meal. I wish they had more side options. The drink selection was great including 3 Korean beers and more soju than I could count. Our server was very accommodating and went out of our way to make sure we were satisfied.
S T — Google review
We were really looking forward to our meal, but unfortunately our experience with our server, was pretty disappointing. We placed a fairly simple order with multiple dishes, but we ended up receiving less than half of what we asked for. Some of the food that was brought out wasn’t even what we ordered, and there was little to no explanation or follow-up. What made it more frustrating was that our server didn’t really check in on us throughout the meal, so we didn’t have much of a chance to correct the issues while we were still dining. It felt like we were overlooked, and it affected the entire experience. We understand that things can get busy, but a little more attentiveness and accuracy would’ve made a huge difference. We hope this feedback is taken constructively, because we do like this place and would love to come back and have a better experience next time.

Returned here last weekend to try again after the decrease in hype. Previously, the wait times were long during all hours on the weekends and weekday dinners. The atmosphere continues to be great for the younger crowds and young-at-heart, especially for dinner with music thumping and neon lighting piercing through the darkness...like a club. Dinner pricing was the same for lunch on weekends, which we came at noon last Saturday with the restaurant being barely half filled. Previously, there would be a line at the same time. Service was great and expeditious, 5*. There were varieties of meats and a few seafood items such as calamari and shrimp. However, competitor meats and options have outshined them. Veggies and salad were available and appeared fresh. Overall food and selections, 4*.

The food here is higher quality than I expected, and the service was very quick/attentive. It's $20/person for lunch from Open - 3 PM, then $30/person from 3 PM - close. Their drinks have some good bottomless drinks along with mocktails. I would recommend going to this location for Gen BBQ + no wait 🩷

Owned by Mexico-born Felipe and his Chilean wife Patricia, the restaurant offers a fusion of Mexican and Chilean culinary traditions, including dishes like churrasco and seafood stew.
We recently visited this restaurant for the first time, and it exceeded our expectations. The layout is beautifully atmospheric and exudes warmth. The restaurant's patio is a standout feature, offering the perfect setting for a leisurely afternoon cocktail. The food is absolutely delicious, with authentic flavors in every bite. The servers are exceptionally friendly, and the prices are quite reasonable. We will definitely be returning!

Really good service they have a bar also so good amount of drinks. I had two tacos with plate. And salsa and chips. The salsa and chips were really good. Tacos were OK. I had grilled chicken tacos. Might try other items next time. Ambience is really good.

We took a seat in the restaurant and our waiter Joseph immediately approached us with menus and water. A couple minutes later he came back with chips and an assortment of salsa. He was polite and attentive, two things you want when dining out. We ordered drinks first and they were impressive, one of them that stood out was the Chavela Camaron, please see picture, it came with the largest shrimp I have ever seen on a cocktail. The food arrived and I enjoyed the Camarones a la diabla. If you like spicy food, this is a dish you have to try. It had me sweating just three bites into my meal.

We had a great time, and this is the best Mexican place we’ve been to here. Wife and I came for a date on a Saturday. Super nachos were amazing! A lot of meat and the chips were light, crispy and so tasty. The guacamole was quite good. The Cadillac margarita was really good! The super Michelada had a light spice and tasted great. We ended with the prawn quesadilla and a mushroom quesadilla. Both were tasty with a light, crispy tortilla. PLENTY of prawns and mushrooms in each. Service was a little slow BUT worth the wait. WILL be back!

Self order at table using tablet. Some of the best korean food I’ve had! Marinated crab could have been better but it was not bad. Came on a Sunday afternoon and had no wait. Got the crab, Bosam and Mandoos (very king size indeed) Very clean single stall bathrooms

While some other Korean restaurants give a few banchans (small side dishes), this place gives many. While you wait for your food, you can enjoy their banchans. They give you refills when asked. Their food is good and portion is decent. Food came out pretty fast. However, the hostess service was poor . I arrived early and told her my friends have a child. She wouldn't seat us unless we could tell her if we need a high chair. Then later while we wait for my friends to come (they were stuck with traffic), she kept asking and almost wanted to kick us out of the table. People didn't expect to be in traffic, also the restaurant also didn't have any lines. She shouldn't be a hostess with poor service like this and didn't make us feel welcomed.

04.22.25 12pm Order either via tablet menu or a wait staff will take your order for you. Really delicious large serving of LA Galbi/Kalbi, Yangyum Gehjang (Seasoned Raw Marinated Blue Crab), Ganjang Gehjang (Soy Sauce Seasoned Raw Marinated Blue Crab w.2x Raw Seasoned Whole Shrimp), Haemul Pajun (Seafood Pancake), and the 12x Banchan (side dishes) w.Rice and Hot Tea. *The Kalguksoo (Hand Cut Noodles) was the only miss though so avoid that one menu item* Service was so wonderful to us seniors & daughter, wonderful service by all. It gets really crowded (this is a popular spot in Cupertino across from the Apple Park in the large restaurant maze that is called Cupertino Village!), line forming starting at noon so go early like 11am or later than 2pm for lunch. Our favorite Korean restaurant in the Bay Area. Thank you! *Owned by the same owners as Jang-Su-Jang. We feel this restaurant food tastes much better than any of the Jang-Su-Jangs though.

I got the bimbimbap - so good. And all the great side dishes. I am used to the K places in LA, this place is tops - loved it. Maybe I was just hungry from doing a big swim :-)

Total scam. I paid $40 for LA galbi and got only 4 tiny pieces. When I eat inside the restaurant, the portion is at least double. For takeout they straight up cheat customers and cut the quantity. Absolutely unacceptable—never ordering from here again.

After standing in line for over an hour (worth it), I finally got my hands on the Fish Roe Soondubu. It was hot, comforting, and exactly what a cold day called for. The banchan? Plentiful. Favorites were the green onion pancake and surprisingly refreshing apple salad. Tofu Plus lives up to the hype. Just bring a jacket and some patience.

Tofu Plus Korean BBQ was okay, but nothing too special. The food was decent and filling, but the flavors weren’t as bold or memorable compared to other Korean BBQ spots. It’s fine if you’re in the area and craving Korean food, but not a place I’d go out of my way for.

Really good beer and friendly staff. Dog friendly. Beer was also very good. The Churro Beer was great as was the popcorn. The building isn’t conducive for an outdoor area but that was really the only thing lacking. It also has two really nice sized TVs if you are looking for a game to watch.

First time checking out this brewery. The churro beer was really unique and worth trying. I expected the passionfruit hard seltzer to be more sour than sweet but it was really sweet. Luckily the beertender was super nice and offered to swap or turn it into a shandy. Shandy was a big improvement. My partner liked the two seams IPA. Great food from Jake's too.

Nothing worse than warm beer especially drinking IPAs and stouts. Food vendors are the best part! The husband and I took a stroll after lunch in DT Willow Glen. We came across this gem because we were curious how the serve yourself boba bar worked. Lee came out to walk us through the process and was super nice. He also added that there’s a promotion now so each cup is $2! That’s insane! He gave us our cups with our desired amount of ice and told us to get whatever we want (unlimited toppings & tea choice in our $2 cups!!!) It was a neat experience to self-serve with the machines. He let us pay after we got our cups filled and sealed (you’re supposed to pay inside before filling up). He was super nice and explained everything. He was also kind enough to let us sample their ice cream which he made on the spot. We unexpectedly got treats and a show! It was awesome customer service and the ice cream and teas were on point. Highly recommend it! We’ll be back for sure and have talked to other folks about it. They too have said the teas were good and the customer service is really good.

The rolled ice cream was beautifully decorated with the toppings perfectly distributed across and throughout the ice cream. We came on Monday the 18th of August around 3:30. The guy working was all by himself and despite this, he made quick work with 3 rolled ice creams in record time. He carefully did the Nutella one last as one ice cream roll we got requested for no tree nuts. The rolls were made tightly and no ice cream was wasted .The happy hour was almost chosen for us as they had the two flavours we wanted : Oreo blast and Nutella N Chill (the other being strawberry fantasy). He put the perfect amount of each topping and drizzle and it was so beautifully presented. He even offered us a bag when he saw that I reached for plastic cover for one of the bowls. Thank you man

Shuei-Do has always been one of my go tos for homemade mochi in the Bay Area and even more so now that Benkyodo closed down. Highly recommend the butter mochi, white bean mochis, Monaka, and if you’re curious to try other ones, kinako. They do run out on the weekends and towards the end of the day. While mochi is vegan/ gluten free, they sometimes use non gluten free and dairy ingredients.
Alyssa S — Google review
I traveled all the way from Alaska for this mochi and it was 100% worth my time. Sweetest employees and the butter mochi is perfectly buttery, not overly sweet and has a nice semi-soft flaky topping. The strawberry dango is lightly flavored. The portions are amazing. I spent $30 for a box of 12 pieces.
Sophia W — Google review
It’s recommended to check their Instagram for updates, but even then they won’t tell you what’s out of stock each day. I feel that some of their items run out fast even in the morning, so I don’t get a chance to try the good stuff like the Chi Chi Dango. I couldn’t taste the mugwort in the Yomogi or the Matcha in the Green Tea items. The Butter Mochi and the Peanut Butter items were very good!
Lana H — Google review
Since Benkyodo closed a while ago, I'd always wanted to find a local spot with high-quality manju and Shuei-Do does it well! I like the variety in their selection and popular items sell out quickly by the afternoon. Some of my favorites are yomogi, habutai, green tea, kinako, and their butter mochi. They take pre-orders online if you'd like to guarantee your picks, and also in-person orders. Recommend everyone to give this place a try!
Aq X — Google review
I pre-ordered items from Shuei-Do Manju via email. It was easy and there is a separate window to pick up pre-ordered items so you can avoid the line. I got a box of 8 items and the total was $20. By the time we got there around noon on a Saturday, there was a short line but they were sold out of all of the chichi dango and butter mochi. I am not Japanese so I'm not an expert, but I will try to do my best to describe the items we got! Peanut butter - this was my favorite item from the shop. It's mochi that is filled with peanut butter (and maybe lima bean according to the website) and coated in kinako. The mochi was so tender and chewy and it had just the right amount of peanut butter in it. Mango & strawberry chichi dango - again, the mochi itself had a wonderful texture. The flavors were quite subtle and kind of reminded me of hi-chew candies. White manju - this was like a steamed bun filled with azuki (red bean paste). The bun itself is quite thin (so not like dim sum style buns). I haven't had manju before so I enjoyed trying it. Kinako - another mochi item with great texture. I think it has a filling but I didn't notice much taste wise and it was coated in kinako powder. Brown inaka - this is similar to the white manju except the red beans were whole and it's made with brown sugar. Again, fun to try. Overall, I really enjoyed everything we got but if I were to return, I would get the peanut butter mochi. I also want to try the butter mochi and monaka on my next visit!
Vivian A — Google review
Old fashioned manju and mochi shop run by generations. Amazing! Not only the taste but the culture, tradition and blend of Japanese and American make every bite meaningful
Wei F — Google review
Pretty solid mochis. Got a box of 4 (yomogi, green tea, peanut butter, butter mochi) for $10. Can mix and match flavors however you like. Mochis were a nice texture, the ones with red bean paste were really sweet though. I think the best ones are the butter and peanut butter, but overall their not on Japan level. Maybe the best we got here. They take contactless payments and are very efficient. It is just an order window and as soon as you pay they will hand you your order. Street parking but free residential street parking a block or 2 north

I've been going here since I was a little girl. My Bachan would always buy chi chi dango for me and we'd share dessert. I always stop at Shuei-Do when I come to San Jose to keep the tradition alive even though my Bachan has been gone for a few years. The service is wonderful and the quality of manju has remained throughout the years.

Takeout Restaurant
Leichi is a cozy izakaya spot offering traditional favorites like sushi, udon, rice bowls, and tempura. The atmosphere is laid-back with attentive staff. The portions are relatively small, so ordering multiple dishes might be necessary to feel satisfied. The menu features a variety of options, including both raw and cooked dishes. Some highlights include the beef tongue, fresh soba noodles, and Tako wasa with a perfect balance of wasabi.
Awesome and fresh Japanese restaurant. There were a lot of items I got to try that I’ve never really seen before. Like the Yuba and Salmon with Yum. Both had interesting textures and were cold dishes. I didn’t expect that, but it was a pleasant surprise. The sashimi was amazing. If I were to rank them, I would put the yellow fish at top and then salmon and mackerel to follow. The other 3 were also great but I liked those ones more. The duck soba was complex. It has a smokey flavor to it along with the fatty taste of duck. Highly recommend this dish. The restaurant is on the smaller side, and it can get a bit loud and crowded in there. The wait can be really long so it is best to reserve through Yelp ahead of time and even reserve earlier than your eta. You can show up for a time, and still be waiting since it is that popular.
J H — Google review
It was pricey, but I think it is typical for the quality of food that you get. Definitely make a reservation because the venue is small. I would have preferred a bit more privacy between the tables, but I understand it's hard because, again, the venue is small. I took my date here, and was conscious about the other party sitting 5 inches away from me while I was trying to have more intimate conversation
Kyou S — Google review
Leichi is a hidden gem in a Santa Clara strip mall that feels way more refined than it looks from the outside. The cozy space is perfect for a date night or a small group, with easy parking and the option to reserve ahead. The staff is friendly and the service efficient. Standouts are the house-made specialties—the ginger ale, silky pudding-like tofu, and refreshing cold-dipping soba. Don’t miss the comforting salmon ochazuke, perfectly crisp tempura, scallop with uni, fresh mini chirashi, and the hojicha panna cotta to finish. Everything here is a win.
David H — Google review
Leichi is truly a hidden gem in the neighborhood — serving delicate, authentic Japanese dishes with a warm and welcoming touch. We arrived right at 5pm for dinner and were seated immediately, which was a great start to a lovely meal. We tried a few dishes, and here’s my list — from the ones I loved most to the ones that left a lighter impression. 🎏 Snapper Head – Absolutely amazing! The fish was rich, tender, and perfectly cooked — the kind of dish you don’t want to end. 🥢 Seiro Soba – The house-made noodles were outstanding. Perfectly cooked, with a smooth texture and subtle balance of flavors — exactly what good soba should be. 🍤 Assorted Tempura – Light, crispy, and never greasy. Each ingredient kept its natural texture and moisture, making it one of the best tempura platters I’ve had. Perfect with a cold beer! 🥗 Potato Salad – Healthier and lighter than the mayo-heavy versions I expected, but still flavorful with a great chunky texture. 🍆 Nasu Dengaku (Grilled Eggplant with Miso) – I don’t usually like eggplant, but this one changed my mind. Perfectly grilled, with a delicious miso sauce that tied everything together. 🍲 Chawan Mushi – Silky and comforting, though not as memorable as the other dishes — still a nice way to finish the meal. Overall, it felt like dining at a high-end izakaya, yet the prices were very reasonable for the quality. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

A small Japanese restaurant with nice vibe and good food! This restaurant was cheaper than average bay area Japanese food places. The place wasn’t spacious but the staff were friendly and the food was great. We ordered Kamo Kunsei (hickory-smoked duck) and it came with smoke and tasted really good! The fried chicken cartilage was ok, and the grilled black cod was very well marinated and had really rich taste. I also ordered chazuke and it was good as well but I forgot to take a pic. Will def come again. Highly recommend!
Betty W — Google review
This is one of my favorite places for Japanese food, tapas style. Their menu is great, and their food rivals Japan. Highly recommend if you want special Japanese food (other than sushi, ramen, and Bento boxes.
Dave C — Google review
Charming Japanese tapas restaurant in Santa Clara. The tables and seats are small, but the food they serve are fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. Reservation is highly recommended, as they fill up quickly and the turnover rate is not very fast. Efficient and friendly service. Large free parking lot.
Wei-Ai T — Google review
The udon and tempura were absolutely delicious! I went there for lunch and it was a bit crowded, but if you go early, you can get a seat right away. They also serve soba, so if you’re craving authentic Japanese udon and soba, this is the place to go! It turns into an izakaya at night, so I’d love to come back and try that next time!

Japanese restaurant
Ramen Hajime is a cozy Japanese eatery known for its diverse selection of flavorful ramen dishes. The restaurant offers a variety of options, including vegan ramen with rich broth and delectable noodles. Customers rave about the Kiwami Vegan Ramen, featuring plant-based meat from Japan. The establishment also serves classic ramen choices that are equally satisfying.
Small shop, but big quality. I’ve gone a couple of times and loved it. The servings are plentiful, the food is tasty. I like how the staff are attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere is also pretty relaxed inside. The ONLY thing I’d warn of is the wait list. But it usually goes pretty quick.
Joseph S — Google review
apparently this is one of the best ramen places in california, so i had to see what’s up. karaage, fresh and crispy and juicy, & good with or without the sauce. kiwami spicy miso, with thick noodles, generous toppings, & a rich flavorful broth that exemplifies a good bowl of miso ramen. the chashu is much thinner than what i’m used to but still tasty. the egg was cooked perfectly with the yolk still runny. the menu says the kiwami ramen is *very spicy* but it wasn’t too bad for a spice lover. they have lots of special limited menu items on their wall and i’d love to come back to try one. the waitlist can be very long so come as early as possible- i arrived before opening time & there were already several groups in front of me.
Erin J — Google review
From the moment I stepped into this restaurant and heard the music playing, I knew right away this was an authentic Japanese ramen shop. I ordered the Kiwami Tonkotsu Ramen, and it was hands down one of the best ramen I’ve had on the West Coast. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful, the noodles were perfectly firm and springy, and the chashu and other toppings were incredibly fresh and delicious. The first sip of soup instantly transported me to Japan. Throughout my meal, I heard songs by two of my favorite Japanese artists,Gen Hoshino and Fujii Kaze as well as theme songs from anime I’ve watched. It made the whole dining experience feel personal and nostalgic. The staff were kind, polite, and welcoming, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was cozy and inviting. I’ll definitely be coming back often. This place is a true gem.
Melody Z — Google review
I arrived at 11:05 and waited for about 15 minutes. The waitress was polite and spoke softly. My ramen was prepared in approximately 10 minutes and was cooked to perfection. The restaurant has a simple interior, but the atmosphere is enjoyable. The ramen is authentic and delicious.
Alan W — Google review
High quality ramen, great variety, and super friendly staff, but still surprisingly affordable. The broth is rich, noodles are perfect, and the chashu is legit tender. One of the best value ramen spots in the South Bay.
Yuya F — Google review
I am finally a fan of ramen soup. Great texture and good tasting broth. Service is nice and efficient. Also ordered chicken karaage, crispy and tasty. The spicy edamame was fun as well. You need to arrive as they first open or it could be a wait to be seated.
Chelle T — Google review
Pretty good ramen overall, I don't think it's better then a lot of places I've been to. Got the triple meat and while it was nice a unique compared to other restaurants, it's just fine. Pricing is quite fair though, probably a few bucks cheaper at least then most other ramen restaurants around town. Would recommend to try.
Dan K — Google review
Good ramen spot. I’m torn writing this review because the ramen was just okay to me, but judging from the crowd, others really like it. It was my first visit and I tried the Kiwami Tonkotsu ramen. I prefer a more hearty and flavorful broth, so I’ll try the Kiwami Shoyu ramen next time, and maybe I’ll like it better. I know others like a more mild broth (like Orenchi used to be) so maybe my taste/expectation is off. I also like more meat, so I’ll try the “Meat Meat Meat” at some point. I

This iconic venue is not only celebrated for its delectable menu but also serves as an ideal setting for various events such as weddings and corporate gatherings. Guests are treated to not only exceptional dining but also breathtaking views, making it a cherished location for creating unforgettable memories.
For the price, the food was just OK. Not terrible but not outstanding. Now the service, awesome. Everyone was welcoming, attentive and made our experience great. The staff was accommodating, they helped us move from a table to bar seating with a better view of the sunset. The atmosphere was top notch and the views were definitely grand. Be careful if you go at night. As you leave there are cars parked on the side of the road, at times impeding traffic. Our server warned us and I'm glad she did. I will be going back.

Food & Ambiance: It was my birthday and my boyfriend surprised me with this gorgeous restaurant and fantastic food! We had the best poke taco EVER. I couldn’t describe how the mouthful of flavored poke and crunchy taco were so balanced and blown us away! The cocktails are delightful to look at and enjoy. We ordered one pasta dish and a steak dish because we wanted to try both, and it was the best decision we made! The texture of the pasta is perfect and the sauce… 🤩 so delicious! The steak is tender and definitely do medium or medium rare as they suggested. We were too full to try their dessert but I bet it’s great as well! Service: they were so attentive from leading us in , seating us down, introducing the menu and bringing the orders.

This restaurant is worthy to be the place for celebrating your important moment in your life! The food, the service and the thousands-dollar view were perfect for my family’s birthday celebration, every dishes were delicious! Our service gave us restaurant background story and menu suggestions very well! The view from rosy sunset to city lights in the dark was fantastic ! One thing needs to be aware: the place is on the hill, so please make reservation before sunset, driving up will be easier with daylight! Otherwise here is one of my favorites!
Sandy L — Google review
We had a wonderful waitress name Lali serving us for our dinner last night and she was not only friendly and polite, she was also very engaging. Her knowledge of the drinks menu and food menu was incredible and gave us some great suggestions. The $200 32 ounce Tomahawk steaks was cooked in profession, well seasoned too. $95 12 ounce lobster tails are just fine. But the view of the Santa Clara Valley is priceless, as spectacular as it can be if you can catch the sunset. It’s a great place for your special occasion!

This place is amazing. We ate here a few weeks back and always have a amazing experience. The “special” scallop app was the best scallop app my wife and I have ever had and I try scallop dishes at every fine dining restaurant I can. How they don't have a James Beard award or a M star ill never understand. I will always be back!!!!

We did the 4 course meal which was good. Worth a visit to check it out and enjoy an evening on the ridge. Great service from our waiter. One of the best ceasar salads I've had, steak was good, and the ravioli was okay. The drinks were solid.

We had a date night at The Grandview. The service after we were seated was very good The food was good, not great. But worth it for the view. The only negative part of this experience was at the bar. We were early for our reservation and tried to get a drink at the bar but the bartender was not too interested in serving us, completely ignoring us.
Anirudh S — Google review
It was a 500 dollar diner and I would have loved to have room for more food it was soo good and service was friendly and great. Drinks were cool but as anywhere you go the price of 1 drink could buy a bottle somewhere else. We went for our anniversary and will definitely be back.

San Pedro Square Market in Downtown San Jose is a vibrant hub for dining, entertainment, and shopping. It offers a diverse range of culinary options, from loaded baked potatoes to vegan pizzas, along with craft beer, cocktails, and artisanal coffee. The market's bar scene is popular among locals and visitors alike, featuring live music at various venues. Additionally, the area hosts vendors selling fresh produce and handmade gifts.
It’s a good concept with many choices but the food is mediocre at best! But good beer selection for sure! The fish and chips are okay. The calamari is terrible, chicken burgers also bad, but hamburger is better! They even have a band playing on the Wednesday night, that’s impressive but makes regular conversation almost impossible. Lots seating between indoor and outdoor area. There are gas heaters available at the outside area that you can turn it on at you discretion! One other good thing is they have vary clean restrooms!
Steven C — Google review
San Pedro Square Market has a few food vendors including the bar. It was many people when I got there and is hot here as well. It sits right next to its parking garage where patrons can come by here to eat. It’s a very nice area where you can dine and hangout. They even have a stage where performers can sing in front of the audience. It seems that many people come to Downtown SJ for this location, because while I was walking around, there’s not that many people until I came to this market. They even have a water dispenser so that you don’t have to ask for water from any food vendor.
Ivan B — Google review
Visited San Pedro square market on May 5th so got to witness the Cinco de Mayo festivities, live music and such vibrant atmosphere even though it was Monday evening. Lot of food options including Mexican, Indo-Nepalese and others bars for a good time. This square has a lot of history. Got to know that San Jose was the oldest city of CA from an info placard. Reminded me of The Alamo in San Antonio.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of downtown San Jose, 55 South is a lively spot that perfectly blends southern comfort with Californian charm. The Moscow Mule here stands out as a must-try, providing a unique twist that rivals even the classic Irish version.
I don't frequent this bar often but when I do I have a great time. The drinks are delicious but on the pricey side. It's what you should expect from a crafted cocktail in San Jose. The staff was nice. I love the menu. It was fun, whimsical but tastefully presented. The bar itself is visually pleasing and beautifully lit. I think this would be a fantastic place to have a date. The booths are spacious but intimate at the same time. You could have a conversation and hear one another. I would love to come again and see how the space changes based on the night of the week. I stopped by on a Wednesday night.

My old stomping grounds. Haven’t been back in a while since I moved away from Downtown San Jose. They still have one of the most impressive whisky collections I’ve ever seen. The old fashioneds are the best here and I’m not sure why no where else has been able to replicate it. I’m glad they’re still doing well but I’ll have to try to come back more often.

I went to 55 South in San Jose and had an amazing experience. The atmosphere was chic and cozy, perfect for a night out. I ordered their signature cocktail and a steak, and both were excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and flavorful, and the cocktail was refreshing with the right balance of flavors. The service was outstanding; the staff was attentive and made sure everything was to my liking. I also enjoyed the music playing in the background, which added to the vibe of the restaurant. I’ll definitely be coming back for another great meal.

I’m so impressed! I came in on a Tuesday night looking for dinner and a good drink. There were two bartenders, and both were amazing. I started with a margarita made with Forteleza Añejo. The bartender used great, fresh ingredients – so good. The other bartender made a Naked and Famous. I mentioned that I don’t like a super smoky mezcal, and the drinj he made me was perfectly balanced. I ordered the beef stew – so good! I can’t wait to go back!

First time here while visiting San Jose on 11/23/2024. Came here because the place across the street was too busy and no regrets! Amazing drinks! The bar tender delivered great service. The Green Day seasonal cocktail was my favorite!

A nice little spot in downtown San Jose. We had a few starters, pizzas and drinks. The best and most impressive was the pizzas. We ordered the five-spice duck pizza and the pork banh mi one, which were very creative and of great fusion taste. Beers and cocktails were also good while the cocktails were a little bit overpriced in general. Overall a good experience!
Vera — Google review
I really wanted to come here for the Banh Mi pizza and it was good timing as there was a game on so the BF got to watch the game. Me – Food, Him – Game = win-win. We got the pizza and it was pretty good. The flavors were good and I liked how it was more like a flatbread. We also go the kimcheese fries which were good as well. With those two items, we were pretty satisfied. Since we stayed long to watch the game, we ordered a couple of drinks to justify taking up our seats for so long. We got the mugi mule and the lychee martini, which were pretty good, but definitely pricey for what it was. I don’t know if it was just that day, but there was only one girl serving the whole place, until a second one came to help her out at least an hour later. Because of that, the service was kind of slow, but she was a really good waitress. Overall, they have good Asian Fusion bar food and drinks and a chill place to watch a game. Make a reservation though as they don’t have a lot of seating.

Very attentive hostess, nice interior, music at a reasonable volume, not too crowded or empty. Hostess Lena kept coming back just in time to refill our glasses from the bottle of soju being shared at my table. (The mere fact that Nomikai carries soju is a point in its favor.) These are the good things! The not so good: they were out of the soju we wanted (there were only two varieties available). They were out of the duck far popcorn. And the "seven spice nori fries" were dry, kinda stale, and generally boring. (McDonald's fries are way better and far cheaper!) So... skip the fries... and don't count on anything you order actually being available! That said, the spam musubi was delicious, and Lena is definitely a credit to the establishment. I would probably go again... but it's not my new go-to spot ;)

Interesting Asian fusion place with food and drinks. Place really tries to be hip and clubby while the food is above average. Proposes interesting dishes like kimchi pizza and ends up perfecting nothing.
