Cafe
Carmelitas Café is a beloved breakfast spot in Zihuatanejo, known for its Mexican specialties that have been passed down through generations. The menu features a daily variety of guisados, including beef tongue in tomatillo salsa and pork ribs in red sauce. A must-try is the signature requeson served with freshly pressed corn tortillas. The café also offers an array of coffee options and delicious baked goods.
2024.12.15@11:50 - it is hard to see the sign for the restaurant when you are on foot. I was seated quickly. I was waited on quickly. Waitress and receptionist both spoke English. My food was served quickly. The dining room is cool and comfortable with much greenery. Omelet of bacon and cheese was no problem. I had to ask for butter and marmalade for the toast. Plate was decorated with veggies and a small cup of tasty potato cubes. There is some noise from the highway but it didn’t over power.
Les M — Google review
The most delicious food in all of Zihuatanejo. Family run for over 18 years, the love they put into every dish and the service is palpable. The chilaquiles were exceptional and the off the bone pork ribs were out of this world. The coffee is amazing too. I travelled around the whole of Mexico and this place stands out. It’s no wonder they are in the best 250 restaurants in Mexico. Award winning quality. Enjoy!
Dylan M — Google review
We had an exceptional breakfast experience at Carmelita’s Café, and I can now see why it’s so beloved by locals and visitors alike. Everything we ordered was deeply satisfying and beautifully prepared — starting with the tongue (lengua), which was incredibly tender and flavorful, accompanied by a chipotle sauce that was smoky, rich, and absolutely perfect. The pancakes were light and fluffy — among the best I’ve had in Mexico — and the elote tamal was soft, warm, and bursting with corn flavor. We also tried two prehispanic drinks, pozol and tescalate, which were a fascinating and delicious window into regional culinary traditions. It’s rare to find a place that offers this kind of deep cultural food experience in such an accessible and inviting way. The setting is also worth mentioning — a lovely open-air patio full of life and energy, with a mix of locals and travelers. And most memorably, the owner came by to chat with us — warm, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about excellence, local ingredients, and honoring the culinary heritage of the region. This is not just breakfast — it’s a cultural experience. Highly recommended. Come hungry and curious. You’ll be very glad you did.
Marlon M — Google review
Very good atmosphere, the place is very nice many locals eat here, and the food was outstanding 👌! Had the "Rabo de res a la Pasilla" 👍👍👍, and we also had the green chilaquiles, all food was great! Highly recommended!
HUGO C — Google review
A delightful breakfast experience. Customers are a mix of tourists and locals. Coffee con canela is hot and fresh, served with milk, American coffee also available. Made in house pan dulce is offered on a dessert cart wheeled to your table after drinks are served. The most special sweet bread is the incredible cinnamon roll, which our server was very proud to offer. I am so glad we took her up on it, because it was soft and just, mmmm *chef's kiss* perfecto! Staples like eggs mexicana, huevos rancheros, and motuleños are on the menu, along with fresh juices, milk fruit smoothies, fresh fruit plates with yogurt, and so much more. Coffee is roasted in house and offered for sale as whole beans or freshly ground. Highly recommend you try Carmelita's for breakfast or brunch!

Everything was good! The servers are extremely dedicated on making a good experience. Good was good.

A real nice, local restaurant with quality food and great service. We ate here twice for lunch during our stay. Very convenient location. Parking is tough, but we walked the second time. Very clean, modern bath room as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants some local food options.

Absolutely delicious, and 100% authentic food. The staff and cooks here are so kind and welcoming. Everything was just so flavorful and fresh. If you are in Zihuatanejo this is a must place to try for breakfast/lunch. Pricing is very reasonable as well. I highly recommend the chilaquiles, huevos con chorizo, enchiladas, café de olla and all of their juices (pressed in house).

Nestled in the charming neighborhood at the foot of Cerro Madera, La Gula is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This popular restaurant specializes in fusion cuisine, showcasing exquisite seafood dishes presented with artistic flair. Signature offerings like Eclipses del Sol and Pesce Solado highlight the chef's creativity and commitment to fresh ingredients. The ambiance is warm and inviting, complemented by attentive service that makes every visit special.
Beautiful presentation and delicious food, what a treat! The staff were extremely welcoming and thoughtful. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the meal, 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
Philippa J — Google review
This is my third winter in Zihua. I've eaten at La Gula several times while I have been here. The service as always top notch, and the owners are wonderful people. There are many good restaurants in town, but the food is definitely exceptional at La Gula.
Art F — Google review
I’ve been coming to Zihuatanejo since 2011 and have eaten at dozens of restaurants from super high end to street corners, and this was by far the best meal I’ve ever had. The octopus starter was superb. The whole fish (red snapper) was perfectly cooked and accompanied with subtle yet delicious vegetables. My wife had the Mahi Mahi with shrimp in a corn sauce…unbelievable. Service was amazing and the desert just to die for. Reservation for our last night already made. Skip the foo foo and make a reservation here. You won’t be disappointed.
Jeff M — Google review
We had a really wonderful and special experience here. The couple who own and run the place, one the chef and the other in the dining area, were absolutely lovely and gracious. The service was excellent. Pacing was gentle but fast and respectful. Food was excellent and inventive and presentation was outstanding. Bread was provided free, prices were very good, and the location is charming and has an elevated small town atmosphere. Reminds us of hillside Italian towns on the northern Mediterranean coast. Thank you to La Gula.
Solomon O — Google review
This is probabely the best place in Zihua for an outstanding dinner experience. The couple who run the place does everything to make it an unforgetable experience. The prices of the dishes aren't overpriced and the prices of the beverages are also very reasonable. The head waiter does an excelent job and the service was perfect👌 We had a cocktail, a starter, main dish and desert and a bottle of whine. I will definitely go back there very soon.
Andreas B — Google review
I went there for dinner and had the chef special which was excellent. The service was spot-on and the atmosphere was very nice with a cool evening breeze. Good selection of well-prepared food. You should give it a try.

We have ate at a few places in zihuatanejo and this is was the best. I don't write reviews but I felt very compelled to do so. This place offers luxurious food and service but at very good price. You could tell the owner wanted to showcase love for her guests. The Margareta was the best I've had in mexico and I have been here 3 times. The service felt like a very fine dinning experience. The food was clean and very well thought of. This chef went to school forsure. No view of the bay but with this kind of food you don't need it. I Strongly recommend this place to anybody.
Jason V — Google review
The best restaurant in zihua! Everything we so delicious and the service was next level! Wish we ate here every night during our stay. The mahi mahi with shrimp and the seared tuna steak were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The spinach salad with grilled pear was a delight. And the compound butter served with banana bread was out of this world. I appreciated they poured an Italian Pinot Grigio by the glass.

Italian restaurant
Il Mare offers a romantic setting on the cliffs overlooking the beautiful bay of Zihuatanejo, with modern Italian and Greek cuisine. It offers free wifi, outdoor seating, and reservations for those who wish to dine in peace.
We had a delicious meal here and made it before the sunset. We shared a Mediterranean Salad, a bottle of wine, and shrimp linguini with a spicy red sauce. I asked for the sauce to be mixed with the white sauce. Please don’t tell my Italian friends! One dish was easily split between two people. It was nice to hear there were so many recurrent guest returning from previous visits. The shrimp had only the tails, the bread was fresh, and the service was on top of their game .
Nicole L — Google review
Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes and how they were prepared. The food was good and reasonably priced. The view was excellent! The sunset spectacular!!! Great time, highly recommend.

We celebrated our first anniversary during our trip to Zihuatanejo. Our taxi driver suggested this place when another we looked at was closed. It was incredible! The wait staff were above and beyond friendly and the view and food are amazing. I ordered the grilled octopus appetizer special as a main course and the waiter offered it readily, allowing me to choose from a variety of side options and sauce. A great personalized experience! My fiance had the fillet mignon and we also each had a salad and dessert and shared a bottle of wine. Impeccable food and romantic atmosphere! As everywhere we have been in Zihua... Be kind to everyone around you and you will receive kindness in return. ❤️🌺🌴
Beth B — Google review
I may have caught them on an off night because I’ve been told how on point this place generally is. The food was okay but nothing extraordinary. The wait staff was very friendly but they were so busy that service was extremely slow. The views and vibes of this place we spot on. Great views and a cozy experience. Id give them another try just because everyone can have an off night.
Timmy C — Google review
Hands down best Italian Restaurant in all of Zihuatanejo! Ambiance, Service, and of course amazing food 🍝 Excellent attention to detail from the staff and customer service unseen in other Italian restaurants in town. My waiter Miguel was superior. Chicken Alfredo Pasta was perfect, and bread was a nice touch. Had to finish it off with some chocolate Icecream. 11/10 recommend!
Jorge — Google review
A solid choice for food with a 5 star view of the Zihuatanejo Bay and town. We went Tapas style and shared the yellowfin tuna carpaccio appetizer plus a Caesar salad, adding the Scampi Ai Oleo as our entree. Everything was tasty and fresh and the server was great. Prices were very reasonable as well. We spent under $75 total which included 3 glasses of wine.
Steve C — Google review
Il Mare has some the best Italian food I eaten both in and outside of Italy. The views are spectacular and the pacific breezes will keep you cool even during the hottest time of day.

Went here on our first night in Zihua for dinner. Restaurant is great, service and food is amazing ofcourse. I love mussels and this one didn't disappoint. Best black mussels i've had in a long time. Everything we had is delicious. But the winner of all is the beautiful view of Zihua bay at night from this restaurant giving you all that romantice vibe.

Barbecue restaurant
The family-owned and operated Restaurant El Arrayan is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike for fresh seafood, delicious grilled meats, and friendly service. The chef is on hand to make sure everything is just right, from the shrimp kebab to the perfectly grilled fish. There's also a full bar and live music on some nights.
The grill chef knows his stuff. We have been to Mexico many times and he ranks near the top and for the price, I think at the top. The arrachera was generous and cooked to medium rare perfection. The bacon wrapped shrimp were huge and juicy, wonderful. The sides were all delicious and the key lime pie was the perfect finisher. On top of that there was a delicious fish appetizer and chocolate covered marshmallows to finish, both for free! Top marks to this place.
Rick B — Google review
Mauricio was so welcoming, we were walking by when he was setting up one day, everything is so cute, neat area of Zihua for food. Several good places within a couple blocks. Great food and nice to see local owners/chefs interacting with their patrons! Also local live music!
John H — Google review
This quaint family owed and operated establishment was fantastic. The grill was going and all things coming off tonight were fantastic. Kabobs, shrimp, tuna all delicious. Great ambiance and servers were very kind and helpful, a visit from the chef/owner was a nice touch. To top off the evening the order key lime pie!
Ali G — Google review
Quiet romantic atmosphere 😍 with beautiful ambience. Live music in the background. Mahi Mahi cooked to perfection. Not overly cooked and dry. It was tender and juicy with freshness you can taste. Octopus was definitely fresh. It was not chewy at all and the flavor was perfect. The cook and owner was very nice and squeezed us in even though they were pretty busy. The cook also went wo every table to make sure we are enjoying the food. This is a well run family restaurant!
VIDAL M — Google review
We went here on the advice of a friend and we loved it! Good value, great food and service, cozy atmosphere for outdoor dinning. We had the shrimp tacos and the skewers.
Jen B — Google review
You must order tuna fish steak! We order tuna steak. I can’t believe what I saw! So big and thick tuna steak was served! I’ve never seen such a thick tuna steak, even if I was in Japan. Great flavour. No iron fishy smell, not at all! Definitely, fresh. His cooking skills is very good. Price is amazing ( if you order this in Japan or some city restaurant, you have to pay over $60 or more) I totally forgot to take this plate picture. Because I was completely fascinated by this tuna steak (*≧∀≦*)
YU H — Google review
Very great experience, great food cooked right outside the restaurant on a grill. Wanted pasta and found it, woundful grilled shrimp fettuccine. All the workers were great. Good location near the canal in a quint area.

One of the best breakfast/lunch place in Zihua! Great food and service but also some of the best views of the bay as you are above ground right in the middle of the bay. Often with a nice breeze as you enjoy your meal with some fresh fruit juices...
Christian C — Google review
This is a beautiful restaurant off the beach. Many friends of mine enjoyed their meals. We had baguettes and these had great flavor. The "asadero" was well worth it. The salad was extremely salty so it was hard to eat. The French toast is shareable. It's quite a big dish. The staff was friendly and very attentive too. We were a large party and we all were well taken care of. We hope to revisit in the future.
Dejsha B — Google review
As most locals do l'm starting breakfast with a pastry of some form. In this case a coconut pastry bar and then onto the entree of Pobretones which are scrambled eggs with pieces of fried tortilla, topped with red sauce, cream, cotija cheese, onion, cilantro, and served with refried beans with chorizo and house-made tortillas. The view is fantastic here. Excellent food, service, reasonable prices and this view. No doubt l'll be there a few times.
MotoMan55 — Google review
This is probably one of the best places to get a good local breakfast. The menu has good choices if you’re into healthy eating but also has a wide variety of typical Guerrero eats. Mornings are pretty busy so getting your food can take a bit of a wait. It’s also hard to get a table with ocean view so that’s why the wait can be long. The food is good though and it’s one the the best coco flans I’ve had. Also I had dinner there (a cheeseburger) and it was delicious
Paola M — Google review
Yes it's great! Nice staff, good food, incredible views! It's a must go for breakfast in Zihua!

I had the most delicious French toast, special of the day. Sweet, but not overly so, with a subtle orange taste. Such a perfect combination with my cafe’ de olla. Everything about the experience was fantastic! No wonder, it’s my favorite place for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

The dining experience at Lety's Restaurant was exceptional. The food, which included coconut shrimp, chili reanos, and carmone de mignon, was absolutely delicious. It is located in a less frequented location but definitely worth the visit. Lety's new establishment is more upscale compared to her previous one on the west side of the lagoon. Their lunch options are particularly impressive with highlights being the mouth-watering coconut shrimp and seafood stuffed relleno.
We've visited Zihuatenejo twice and by recommendation of a friend we're lucky to find Lety's. It's slightly off the beaten path of the downtown area but is well worth the scenic stroll on the trail by the canal. The quality of the food is hands down THE BEST we've had in the area! Service is friendly and even accommodated a vegetarian option. My girlfriend loved the Coconut shrimp which is obviously a favorite of many guests. Don't think twice. You won't regret it! The food presentation is artistic and Lety even greeted us at the end of our meal. Outstanding! We'll be back!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Outstanding! Lety’s Restaurant is an absolute gem in Zihua. From start to finish, the service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The food? Incredible. I had the lobster salad and coconut shrimp, and both were perfectly prepared with fresh, vibrant flavors. My wife opted for the fried whole fish (today’s catch was red snapper), and it was cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. And let’s not forget the planter’s punch—delicious and refreshing, the perfect complement to an incredible meal. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Zihua, Lety’s is the place to be. Highly recommend!

Best coconut shrimp ON EARTH- and in the universe, I would argue. I also love the chili rolleno stuffed with mixed seafood. If you haven’t been to Lety’s you haven’t been to Zihua. They moved a few years ago and the new space has a contemporary Mexico City vibe but still maintains their cozy small fishing-town authenticity. We love you Lety!!

The coconut shrimp and the seafood stuffed pepper are amazing.. whoever makes drinks is heavy with the alcohol.. highly recommend if your visiting zihuatanejo

This was our first time at Letys restaurant. We HAD to get the famous coconut shrimp, it was worth the hype! It was delicious! My husband got the chicken with chipotle cream sauce over pasta and it was also delicious! Great service! Lety came and talked to us at our table to make sure we were happy with our meals.

El Manglar, located at the south end of Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, offers a unique dining experience with a view of abundant wildlife. From the restaurant's tables, guests can observe beautiful birds, squirrels, large iguanas, and even the occasional crocodile swimming by in the estuary. Despite their presence, these reptiles do not pose a threat to visitors as they are well-fed and accustomed to human activity.
i love this place, such a cool vibe and great food. very unique experience. how many other places can you eat great food and see so much amazing wildlife at a safe distance.

I got the beurre blanc fish roll and it was very nice. It's a fun atmosphere as well, right next to a mangrove with iguanas and birds. It's off the beach but no ocean view. I took off a star because they allowed other diners to feed the iguanas, then the restaurant staff fed them tortillas! Not appropriate food for those animals. Don't fall off the deck, the giant croc might eat you!

Excellent food and drinks. My wife had the deep fried fish tacos and I had the fajitas. And a great experience with the iguanas and crocodiles! We went here almost every night on our vacation. Highly recommend!

Wow! The restaurant was fantastic! Superb service and everyone enjoyed their dinners. Thank you for a great meal! Five adults well feed for less than $1500 mx. We had drinks but no alcohol. Highly recommended!
Martin R — Google review
Awesome place and got pretty busy almost a full house towards sunset when we were there an hour earlier there was like 2 tables. But the setting feels like eating in the jungle or swamp. I'm glad many iguanas showed up for me and a few different bird species as well. There were turtles swimming by and a medium size crocodile swam by as well although when I pass by mid day there was a huge crocodile hanging out by the entrance of the restaurant. Love the vibe here and a few good choices on the menu. The service was good but today there credit card machine didn't work but luckily I have cash. On the other side of the back of the restaurant is also an RV park I'm not sure if you can rent the lot with the place but there were many travelers and it's nice if you have an RV walk straight into the restaurant to eat and off to the beach you go.

This is a must try in Zihuatanejo. Beach front on Playa Ropa with a great vibe. The food was outstanding and the service we received from Carlos was exceptional. We came by a few days earlier and he gave us a tour of the restaurant grounds because they have an amazing family of iguanas! He recognized us immediately when we arrived without reservation and found us a table. We enjoyed the catch of the day which was mahi mahi. We tried it 2 different ways (veracruza and grilled with ajillo sauce) Both dishes were excellent. Super cute shop. Lovely design throughout. We explored the entire space and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was good, coffee too. If you are a larger group, be patient, food takes a little while. Order, then explore the space!

What a gem of a place! Open, airy and surrounded by plants, we visited twice for breakfast during our first time visit to Zihuatanejo. Food was good, server was friendly and helpful. The Americano coffee was outstanding; hot fresh and strong like it should be; and liked it so much we bought a pound of beans to take home. Avocado toast and breakfast sandwich also really good. As a suggestion though, fried potatoes instead of salad greens would be nice on the side especially during breakfast hours.

Chill music; chill atmosphere; ample portion-size and great coffee. Price for value is superb.

I wish I would’ve taken pictures before we ate our food. I ordered the omelette with mushrooms and onions. My husband ordered the egg, cheese and bacon sandwich.. Both were so good. They have an amazing store inside. With so many different types of gifts to look at. It’s definitely worth a stop.

Aesthetic Vibes of a Tropical Zen Temple.🌴 Place is absolute amazing and the local architect thought of every detail from the fans, outlets, artwork, and amazing bathroom sinks. Love, love, love this place! If you’re looking to co-work near the beach, this is the place. Variety of seating options inside, and out with strong WiFi and charging outlets. Coffee was aromatic and favorable. Staff were attentive and very happy to serve.

Unexpectedly stumbled upon this restaurant looking for dinner and it was great. I was surprised that on a Friday night at 8pm the place was empty. We were the only people there. Such a beautiful and clean space. The design and detail here is amazing. The building is 3 floors. The food was delicious. We tried the chicken sandwich and the burger. Both made to order and very fresh. The fries are delicious as well. The sandwiches are very large portions. I had the home sweet home mocktail. It was.....different. The maple syrup is VERY strong. I told my boyfriend it was like drinking strawberry french toast. That’s the best way I could describe it. Not my favorite but something different. Service was amazing. They accept both cards and cash. I paid with card and was able to leave a tip this way too. $535 pesos for the meal + tip

Margaritas Zihuatanejo Restaurant is a popular breakfast spot in La Madera, known for its authentic and delicious Mexican breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, enchiladas, and huevos rancheros. The restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere with a breezy covered area adorned with portraits of Guerrero residents and a small garden. It's always bustling with locals and national tourists, which adds to the authenticity of the experience. The service is excellent, and they even accept credit cards.
The best chilaquiles in Zihuatanejo! Get one of their juices I recommend their naranja-plátano (orange-banana). If nothing else try their chilaquiles red or green you can’t go wrong. Ask for a fresh warm bolillo on the side to help gather the rest of the sauce and you won’t regret it. This place is always buzzing with people, mostly locals (always a good sign). The service is excellent and they accept credit cards too.

Best Chilaquiles ever!! You know you found a great place to eat when you come on a Sunday during the down season and you’re the only Gringos in the place. Definitely a winner!

I had the combination plate which was very good. The service was excellent as was the overall atmosphere. I came in just after noon so it wasn't that busy. I think that I'll be back.

Visited again with family. Breakfast was on point. Loved my chilaquiles con salsa verde. Others in my party spoke highly of the molletes, fruit plate with granola and the hot cakes were a hit with los niños. (Photo doesn't belong but can't remove) 😜 Original from Diciembre 2023: Nice spot, pleasant occasion to be surrounded by more locals and national tourists than gringos...and a good sign for the authenticity of the food. Chilaquiles were excellent and the molletes con chorizo was good.

El Agave Restaurante is a popular dining spot known for its hospitable staff and delicious food. The margaritas are a must-try, perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The octopus carpaccio and warm bread with compound vegetable herb butter are highly recommended starters. The cold avocado soup and Camarones Garbadinas are also delightful choices for a main course.
Our first visit to Agave did not disappoint. We got there at opening- it was clean and we were welcomed so hospitably. We had a margarita on the rocks and a Vicki. The margarita was excellent, not too sweet and plenty of tequila. For starter we had the octopus carpaccio. It was delicious. Perfectly balanced flavors and beautifully minced up herbs...we also had some delightful warm bread with a compound vegetable herb butter. I wanted to take it home with me so I could eat it on more things! For dinner, we had the Mahi fillet and the Shrimp Scampi. I was too excited to wait for a good picture and tore into my food before the pictures. It was really savory and flavorful. The scampi was excellent. He literally had to take my bowl so I couldn’t lick it. Haha. It was divine. Perfectly seasoned, al dente spaghetti and plump fresh shrimp. For dessert, we shared a piece of flan. It had beautiful strawberries and fresh mint and was fabulous. We could barely finish it! But you know we don’t waste food. We managed to get that last bite. For the quality of the food and service, this is an exceptional restaurant in downtown Zihua. The prices are incredibly reasonable. You can tell they love what they do and take pride in the quality and content of their craft. Take your time, enjoy your meal and see a totally different view.

Staff here are wonderful, the tricolour salad is a nice take on a Caprese, and they often have a pork chop special which I love. They do a tasty fish veracruzano. Their chile relleno with a twist( mashed potatoes and cheese) is a favourite of mine as well. It’s one of our go to regulars for a nice night out downtown. Everything is priced reasonably for what you get.

Restaurante Kau Kan is a hidden gem in Zihuatanejo, offering a delightful blend of Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on inventive seafood dishes. The owner-chef, Ricardo Rodriguez, infuses his culinary expertise into every dish, creating an unforgettable dining experience. Perched atop a cliff overlooking the bay, the restaurant provides a stunning backdrop for enjoying delicious meals.
The food and atmosphere were fantastic. Perched on top of a hill you get a perfect view of the bay of Zihuatanejo. The chef worked at one of the best restaurants in Mexico City and trained in France and Spain. His skills are on full display with his dishes. We had the snapper, clams and the flan for dessert, just all amazing. Highly recommend for a romantic dinner, the food and the views are perfect.

Honestly don’t understand the negative reviews. This place was wonderful. Sure, it’s hard to get to, but it feels like you’re in a James Bond movie. Drive up the hill to a cool giant gate where you get escorted up by golf cart to the top of a gorgeous cliff. The staff was friendly and great, the food was delicious and the view was impeccable. For two bottles of wine, a cocktail each, and a 6 course meal, my partner and I would easily spend more in the states. Sure, it’s not your typical Mexico prices, but it’s a wonderful meal, in a perfect location, at a reasonable price. We will happily return and recommend! Thank you, Kau Kan!

Smaller seatings, call for reservations. Cut right into rock. The surf creates a great background for dining. Food was excellent. Our group of eight tried almost all the dishes. The pan seared octopus was well prepared. This is going to a part of a much larger development, come enjoy soon.

Never a good sign when you walk in to an empty restaurant without a reservation and they look perturbed about serving you. Space is beautiful, top of the hill overlooking Playa Las Gatas. Menu was meh and food matched it. Can't honestly remember much other than the scenery and we didn't have to deal with the weird parking others mentioned.

Located in the lively downtown area of Zihuatanejo, Angustina Mezcal & Cocina is a vibrant restaurant known for its colorful patio and handcrafted mezcal made by local brothers Antonio and Felipe. The establishment exudes a cosmopolitan energy, reflecting the spirit of young entrepreneurs in the community. Guests can savor local ceviche adorned with flowers, herbs, and chili paste while enjoying frozen cocktails and expertly served mezcal.
Had the catch of the day with pepper and peanut sauce, pork shank, pork belly tacos and several cocktails. All muy rico 🥰

It was a very nice experience having dinner at Angustina. It was what they promised. The quality of the food is a notch above the usual. Much more gourmet. I had hoped for more Home cooked style, but that was my fault. Everything was great and the service wonderful. For me the food was a bit too fussy. Again, that was my expectation, not the restaurant. And I highly recommend it for people looking for a more fancy gourmet experience in Zihua.

Super unique menu, everything incredible. The best dinner we had in Zihua by far!
Katie M — Google review
We came here after seeing photos of an intriguing menu and excellent dishes, and now we are going to contribute the same in this review. The restaurant opened at 15:00 and we were there anticipating this as our choice for an early supper (or late lunch). We were seated in slightly uncomfortable chairs, but when asked, the manager moved a large fan closer to us so we could cool down from a hot walk around town. The table was clean and the waiter placed nice paper place mats down as we were served our first drinks. We started with water and coke but upgraded to cocktails later. All the drinks were tasty and the cocktails were among the nicest we've had in Zihua. For a shared appetizer we had the Nejitas - three warm folded tortillas with a filling of huitlacoche (corn smut) and with the best guacamole we've ever had and a couple of delicious salsas! After eating the Nejitas, the waiter offered fried yucca and sweet potato chips so we could finish the salsas off. For our mains, we order the Chamorro (pork loin, perfectly roasted with a nice crunchy skin) and the Tuna Chepinita! We had no room for dessert but really wanted to try the three types of churros. Our waiter was polite, attentive and gracious. She spoke no English, which we found refreshing and we enjoyed practicing our Spanish (por ahora = a few more minutes). The bathrooms are clean and stylish. We will make a return trip here.
Miles F — Google review
We went here on recommendation of a friend. There was no one else there we we were worried about it since it was a Saturday evening. We decided to try an appetizer and tried the Pork belly tacos. THEY WERE AWSOME. So good. All tables have a view of the promenade, and you can people watch. We did not order anything else we decided to try another place, since we had only 1 more night and wanted to try as many places as possible. I recommend this place.
Jeff R — Google review
Loved it the first time, so we came back! Great cocktails, most are made with in house mezcal and local ingredients. Dinner 2 nights ago night was empanadas, the snapper w/ a delicious tomato sauce and the tuna..mmmmm. Last night was the Rib eye, and the pork belly special both with amazing purees and sauces.
Paul K — Google review
The food was excellent, great service. No one seemed to speak much English but we were able to communicate just fine. The mezcal drinks were awesome, food even better. We got the catch of the day and the octopus. The sauces were incredibly flavorful. Must try when in Zihua!

I think this place is fantastic. It's a very nice place to eat with various options for food. Everyone who joined me enjoyed their meal also. The portions are a reasonable size too and their drinks are flavorful. My friends introduced to this place and I hope to try something new each time. Heard great things about this place. We were a little let down. I did try the octopus which wasn’t bad. I have nothing to compare it to but can cross it off my bucket list. My partner’s rib eye was not so great. More on the blue side than med-rare. The service was not very attentive. They were quite busy so perhaps this affected the food and service.
Sarah C — Google review
We went here 3 times as the first time the meat was excellent. The second time we ordered a medium filet mignon and it came very rare (raw), not the end of the world but not what we ordered. So the 3rd time I ordered a medium/well filet mignon in the hope that it would be a little less raw this time. Our dishes arrived after about an hour of waiting, 3 of us ordered steak and chips of varying cuts, they were all completely annihilated as were the fries. It was like trying to eat a shoe, so dry and tough. I made the observation to the waiter and he said as we had already eaten a bit (a couple of bites) there was nothing he could do. We ate as much as we could as we were hungry and had been waiting a fair while. The manager never came over and we were billed in full. So, if you do decide to go, avoid the steaks and don't expect much from the service if anything goes wrong.
Carlie F — Google review
Very nice setting along the walkway on playa principal. My wife had lasagna and loved it. The pasta was thin and delicious. I ordered a Greek Salad. Not exactly what I expected but it was good. I also ordered the tuna steak. It was only okay. We will be back to try the pizza because that looked delicious.
Gregg S — Google review
Quite disappointed in our meal. We wanted a really nice piece of fresh fish, and since it was near the pier, thought this was a good bet. Good atmosphere, a rotation of wandering musicians playing for tips. Bad margaritas, touristy big glasses with lots of filler mixer. Calamari app was subpar. The catch of the day, mahi mahi, was smothered in an almond cream sauce that I can only describe as disgusting, couldn't eat it. The snapper was good, vegetables and potatoes good. Nice service. We won't go back - not authentic at all.

Was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the dishes were, extremely flavourful yet balanced. The coconut shrimp was amazing as were most of the other items we enjoyed by the beach, with some Victoria beers to top it off!

We decided to check this place out based on looking at their menu online. It was very conveniently located for us, just about 100 meters from our hotel. We were greeted and seated immediately. At first, my wife and I felt that our server was either annoyed or disinterested in serving us. He didn't make eye contact and we didn't feel very welcomed. That said, he quickly took our drink and food order, checked on us during the meal, and appeared to warm up to us as the meal progressed. The atmosphere is unbeatable. Beachside with gorgeous views of the setting sun. It truly was wonderful. My wife ordered the coconut shrimp which was served with mashed sweet potatoes. The meal was excellent. I ordered the Triton shrimp, which were stuffed with ricitta cheese and wrapped in prosciutto. It was tooped with a nice cranberry sauce and served with rustic mashed potatoes. It was very good, although my shrimp were very slightly overcooked (not enough to take away from the overall quality of the meal). All in all it was a very good dining experience.

This was a wonderful place to have my “last night here” dinner. The location, on the beach, hearing the waves was beautiful. The service was great, Antonio was very helpful and sweet. The live music was just the perfect addition to the evening.

One of the best on the beach at La Ropa in my opinion. Service and food has always been good and the guitar player they had was really good.

Cool restaurant on elevated beach. They often have live music. Reservations are taken and recommended if you want a specific table. The tuna tataki and beet carpaccio salads were excellent! The mahi mahi Santa entree was edible but really not great. The fried banana plantain dessert was also not great. The service was good. It could have been better but that is not to say it was bad. There was a guy giving samples of his homemade Oaxaca cheese that was delicious! If we had a refrigerator in our room, I definitely would have purchased some. The band was excellent. Being right on the beach in paradise, the atmosphere was perfect like most things in Zihua. I'd definitely come back, even if just for the salads.

This is a nice beach front restaurant with live music on many nights. The staff are cordial and attentive and their proximity to the bay makes the sunset views amazing. I am a vegetarian who came with two non-vegetarians. I had the tortilla soup and mushroom risotto. Both were ok but not great as they lacked in the flavor department. My companions had shrimp pasta and Mahi mahi and had similar observations about their plates regarding flavor. There are not many vegetarian options on the menu.

As with all beachfront places in La Ropa, the view and atmosphere are nearly unbeatable. The President’s Taco was the standout item from the menu. We’ll be coming back for sure and highly recommend this place to others!

Nestled just off the stunning Playa La Ropa, Murmullo is a delightful culinary surprise that combines the best of Thai cuisine with fresh seafood offerings. This hidden gem, tucked away behind a villa and accessible via a charming path between two hotels, has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The ambiance is perfect for romantic dinners or casual meals with friends, featuring an inviting bar where you can watch your food being expertly prepared.
Wow, what a surprise! We were here NYE 2024 because most of the other places had a set menu and we were sooooo happy. Food was legit and fantástico! Couldn’t have been more satisfied and we know Thai food. This place was awesome! Before eating we sat on their beach in private chairs. ❤️

We were recommended to come here by several people. It is right off the beach Playa la Ropa but sort of hidden down a path between two hotels. Who knew - a fantastic (yes!) Thai restaurant in Mexico. We loved our yellow curry, flavorful and well-prepared chicken satay, pad Thai and other dishes - we went twice. Some great desserts as well. Friendly people - even the chef Israel came out a welcomed us on a busy night. All the staff were great. Highly recommend!

Hidden gem 💎 so far we love the curries and haven't veer to try anything else. It's hidden behind the villa and there's also parking lot in the back as well. Services are pretty good. Lots of snow birds during season. The food is amazing and done with love and style. Sometimes the food is just nice looking to eat. There's also a table by the bar and you can even watch the food get cooked. Steps away from the beach of Playa La Ropa. Good romantic dinner with your love ones in the evening as well. Been here a couple of times and always had great food and experiences. Will definitely come back

We had a very delicious dinner. The staff were friendly and helped with menu choices. I ordered something which wasn’t on the menu and has a misunderstanding on the cost. The owner was very gracious and worked it out. I would highly recommend this place and the Pad Thai.
Eagles N — Google review
We just went here today to try the Thai food. I got the pad Thai and my husband got the Thai stir fry. Both tasted very very good. The service and atmosphere were great as well. The price was towards the higher end so don’t be fooled by the pictures of the menu online. The average price per meal excluding a drink is around 300 pesos.

We have eaten here multiple times. It is the best restaurant we have found anywhere in Zihuatanejo over the course of many years. Israel, the chef/owner is very inventive and versatile. We are particular fond of the fish he prepares- tuna tataki, ceviche, mahi-mahi with a mango sauce, tuna with a simple but delicious garlic sauce, tonight in saffron and white wine. We also appreciate that vegetables are excellent, not an afterthought like in so many restaurants. The restaurant is tucked away , just off the beach, and is very calm. Honestly there are few restaurants in Seattle, a city that prides itself for its fish, that could match Murmullo.
Michael F — Google review
Israel has put together a very tasty Thai Fusion restaurant on Playa La Ropa. The Tuna Tartar was a favourIte followed by the Shrimp Pad Thai and the Spicy Shrimp. An Affogato or Flan by the pool was a perfect way to end the night
Bruce B — Google review
Fine fine restaurant just off La Ropa. Thai is a specialty also serves pastas and local fish among other dishes. Nice wines. Love the poolside dining.

Nestled in a charming alleyway in the heart of Zihuatanejo, Cenaduría Ricomar stands out as a must-visit dining spot for anyone craving authentic local cuisine. Known for its delightful pozole, particularly on Thursdays—a beloved tradition in Guerrero—this cenaduría offers an inviting atmosphere with a refreshing cross breeze. Diners rave about the mixed meat pozole, which is both hearty and satisfying, complemented perfectly by a pitcher of Jamaica to wash it down.
Delicious and filling food. Our family of 6 thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. The pozole was perfect and satisfying. We would come again!
Peter H — Google review
Best green pazole broth I have had here. Delicious verde sauce on enchiladas with fresh cooked chicken. Great guacamole with a hint of picante. Ridiculously inexpensive. Could use some fans.
Jake W — Google review
Great authentic food, very reasonable prices.
Kevin H — Google review
The food is excelent and the staff is very kind and tries it's best to make everyone happy. The best Cenaduria in Zihua! Everything is perfect apart of the sometimes loud TV and the loud street musicians who go there mainly on thursday nights.
Andreas B — Google review
We came for a dinner and very much enjoyed the pazole! I got the mixed meat and damn it hit good! We got a pitcher of Jamaica to wash it down. My family has been eating here for years. But it was the first time I had been in probably 15 years. The prices are very very fair!

If you're a fan of ceviche and crave a bit of spice, then SR.Aguachile is the place to be! This charming eatery specializes in aguachile, one of Mexico's beloved seafood dishes. Diners rave about the fresh ingredients and attention to detail in every dish. The aguachile verde stands out for its perfect seasoning—just spicy enough for most palates—and pairs beautifully with their crispy pescadillas and delectable tuna tostadas.
One of our best lunch spots on our Mexico trip. Reasonable prices. Incredible ceviche, tostadas, guacamole. Came back multiple times.
Jason D — Google review
We love this restaurant so much we were there 3 times in 5 days. Drinks are massive and tasty. My favorite is mojito. Their seafood dishes are excellent but do try their rib eye. You won't regret it. It is nice that they are now open later at this new location. Liz speaks very good English and provides good service.
Yuko H — Google review
We almost walked on by this cute, little, local spot across from the dolphin statue! So glad we stopped in for some of the freshest seafood we’ve tasted yet in Zihua. Very helpful and friendly service, generous portions and unique flavours.
Illoana S — Google review
Excellent civiche and beverages. The Micheladas are excellent and large. Everything is fresh and delicious. I Will definitely be a return customer even if it just for the drinks. Felix is an excellent bartender and has an awesome personality and and extensive knowledge of cocktails.
Michael M — Google review
Delicious seafood. We really enjoyed the ceviche especial as well as tacos de pescado and Tiritas (a local specialty). Affordable prices and great service. Don't be intimidated by mostly local crowd you see at this place. Highly recommend trying their amazing food.

Small hole in the wall seafood restaurant with delicious food. Ceviche and tostadas were unique, very fresh and reasonably priced.
Amber M — Google review
We showed up right as they were getting ready to close (7pm) but didn’t know and they still sat us. We shared a handful of dishes between four of us. It all slapped so hard! The aguachile verde was very tasty, could have been a little more spicy to my liking but suited the rest of the table perfect. The pescadillas were my such good little fried tacos with a nice dark spicy salsa. And the tuna tostada was just killer! Will go back and probably just eat three or four of those. Very sweet service.
Issa B — Google review
Wow, the agua chile verde was seasoned to perfection and not super spicy, the seafood tasted very fresh and the shrimp was perfectly cut and cleaned. You can tell the food was prepared with attention to detail. The gentleman preparing it did an amazing job, and the service was very good and attentive. Price of the food was reasonable compared to what you would pay elsewhere. Definitely looking forward to coming back to this small simple spot near the beach.

Coffee shop
If you're a coffee enthusiast like me, then Café Caracol Suc. La Madera is an absolute must-visit when you find yourself in Zihua. This charming little coffee shop offers a delightful selection of strong and flavorful brews that are perfect for kickstarting your day. I made it a point to stroll over every morning during my visit from Canada, especially since the trek back up that hill could be quite the workout!
As a coffee lover, I'm always on the lookout for delicious coffee, and I found what I was looking for in this little coffee shop! When in Zihua, Café Caracol is definitely on my todo list.
Dani E — Google review
Coffee is very good. We went one day and liked it so much we went the next, but the gal at the counter was by herself and very busy. The day before there were two people working the counter. I waited about 10 minutes and a woman walked in front of me and asked to pay her bill, then a vendor came and walked in front of me and asked her to pay for some thermoses. At this point I was there for almost 15 minutes and still didn’t have my order taken, so I just left and went to another coffee shop. I guess they didn’t want my money. A shame because Cafe Caracol’s coffee was better and a little less expensive. I don’t blame the girl at the counter, maybe they need another employee to help her like they had the day before. Their coffee is very good and that’s why this place is too busy for just one person.
Mickey C — Google review
Great coffee. I come here for the frappe, nice and cold on a hot day.
Erminio C — Google review
Great coffee and friendly. Visited from Canada and walked to this shop every morning for my morning brew.i needed comfort for the treck back up that pesky hill :)
