The Anchorage Museum is a sprawling exhibition space covering over 170,000 square feet and drawing nearly 200,000 visitors annually. It showcases Alaskan artifacts, artworks, and collections of tools and relics from the state's native tribes. The museum offers a journey through Alaskan history from its earliest years to modern times, including Russian settlement and the gold rushes.
Wow! What an amazing museum. Just absolutely beautifully curated, with an extensive collection that embodies different aspects of Alaska from fine art, cultural artifacts, humor, stories and culture of the native people, and even the role of Alaska and the Cold war. I cannot say enough good things about this museum, and we go to a lot of museums. Worth setting aside multiple hours!

Located in downtown Anchorage, the Anchorage Museum is a large, well-designed museum offering a fascinating look into the rich history and culture of Alaska. With four floors of exhibits, there’s a lot to see and learn here. From the early days of gold mining to the traditions of Alaska Native peoples, to the enduring legacy of dog sledding and mushers, the museum does a great job weaving together the diverse stories that make up Alaska’s identity. You’ll find extensive displays on fishing, agriculture, and Arctic exploration, as well as a variety of art exhibits showcasing both traditional and contemporary works. It’s an ideal place to visit if the weather isn’t cooperating—whether it’s rainy, snowy, or just cold outside. There’s a small café area inside with snacks, drinks, and seating, offering a nice place to take a break. One standout convenience is the underground parking garage, which is climate-controlled and secure—a huge plus during Alaska’s colder months. Plan to spend at least 2–3 hours here, though you could easily spend longer if you’re someone who likes to take it all in. Overall, it’s a great museum experience for visitors of all ages.

Extremely well done exhibits that present the full picture of Alaskan history, especially the native people groups. Great for families as many exhibits are kid friendly and hands on. Don’t miss this if you are in town.
Jonathan K — Google review
Excellent Museum. It has a lot of everything. Most of all, a lot of Alaskas beautiful history and has its own WW2 section about the Aleutian Island campaign, which my grandfather fought in. He used to box for the Alaska Army boxing team! Bring the kids, there is a lot of interactive activities for them. Every first Friday of the month is free entry after 6 pm.

More than just a cultural museum, there is a nice balance of culture, fine art, and interative physical science and art. We could have stayed for a few more hours but needed to catch a plane home. We were pleasantly surprised by the diverse and well curated collections. The coffee shop is one of the best I have been to inside a museum. I will definitely return when in Anchorage.

A group of musicians were visiting Anchorage for a number of concerts and I was delighted to enjoy hearing a few sets. There was one individual with a short piece and other sets. It was a low cost show too. After the mini concert I saw a display from the Dog room.
Rebecca C — Google review
The Anchorage Museum is absolutely stunning—clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It truly has something for everyone, from captivating exhibits to hands-on activities for kids. The displays are beautifully curated, especially the Alaska Native artifacts, which offer a rich and respectful glimpse into the state’s diverse cultures and history. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's an inspiring place to learn more about what makes Alaska so unique. Highly recommend!

Amazing place! Thoroughly enjoyed everything that I got to see on a quick trip through the area. Wish that I had had more time to explore and to learn. Definitely a great place to explore while in Anchorage.

The Alaska Native Heritage Center offers a comprehensive experience of native culture, featuring exhibits, films, and demonstrations. The center showcases traditional dwellings in a woodland area, constructed with local timbers and adorned with whale bones. Visitors can immerse themselves in the heritage through regular exhibitions, events, performances of local dance, language, and cooking. Located just west of downtown Anchorage, the center hosts workshops and shows ranging from world music gigs to film festivals for indigenous productions.
This is a MUST SEE! I visited with my two teen sons, and they truly enjoyed it. We caught the demonstration of the Eskimo games. You need to see it to understand the level of skill they have. We have been back in NC for a week, and I've seen my son's in our gym trying to do the high kick. They also did a demonstration of a harpoon throw. We tried it but we're not very good. It was a great learning experience. The houses really intrigued me. It was not what I expected. I encourage everyone to visit and learn the history of that region. The walking tour was perfect because our guide shared stories of her region, which was the most northern area. Each guide is from a different area. We saw the dancers, and it was nice to hear songs in their native language as some of the regional languages have been lost due to colonization. They offer military and senior discounts.
Kimberly G — Google review
The museum is small but full of knowledge in an interactive way. I think our favourite part was talking to the crafters in the lobby. Each had wonderful stories about their projects that helped me learn about their lives in the north. We loved chatting with Marg the elder. We also saw different types of lodgings and a traditional dance. That all and Marg best of luck from your two Canadian friend in you wedding.

We had my daughter’s quinceanera here and it was just so amazing. Everyone had such a good time and they opened the back for the quests to walk around. From start to finish the entire staff was amazing and made this a memorable event. The event was such a success we now have people asking about points of contacts and pricing. If you are looking into places to host your special event don’t pass up your opportunity to have it here.
Pablo G — Google review
There is a free shuttle from the downtown log cabin. $30 entry and the attendants were very helpful explaining the tools and building as you walk through them. The free shows are nice to watch as well. Plan for around 1.5-2 hrs here.
Matt S — Google review
Had a wonderful time learning about the native culture. It is a great place to learn about the culture and unfortunately what was done to stifle it in the past. The demonstration of the native games and dance was great. The tour of the various types of dwellings that were built across such a wide range of climate and conditions was enlightening. Shout to to Zach our guide who was not only very knowledgeable but super entertaining as well. I highly recommend a stop here.
Larry R — Google review
If you are seriously interested in learning about Alaska, you just visit this center. The gallery about the various people groups is fascinating along with a timeline of settlement of the territories. The hard truths are presented well to make us all think and reflect. There are informative films and demonstrations in the main building that were very educational. I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the various areas so you can learn as much as possible about the various settlements and ways of life.
Jonathan K — Google review
Awesome cultural experience, they have multiple native experiences such as story telling, songs, and dances by natives, so much info on the local tribes and history. Great place to visit and learn about the real alaska from the people who know best, many local craft options for sale as well.
Jennifer H — Google review
Our travel agent booked us a tour here on Monday the 12th, but when we arrived, we found out that the center wasn’t open for the season quite yet 😅 … Despite the communication error from our travel agency, Mark (I believe his name was) offered to take us around their exhibits— which was more than generous! We greatly appreciated being able to see the dwellings of each tribe of Alaskan natives along with Mark’s detailed lectures of their history. I highly recommend 👍

Hiking area
The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is an 11-mile paved multi-use path that winds along the stunning coastline of the Cook Inlet, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and wildlife. It's a popular spot for walkers, runners, and bikers in the summer and becomes a playground for cross-country skiers and fat tire bikers in winter. The trail starts from downtown Anchorage and extends to Kincaid Park, with various access points along the way.
I highly recommend biking or walking the coastal trail if you have time in Anchorage. It's a very scenic trail, and you can see the sea as you walk, streams, and the occasional moose(I saw a family of them.) There is also information stands along the trail, like the salmon run & the 1964 Alaskan earthquake. If you like aviation, hiking to the section where you can see the runways of Ted Stevens airport is a must. You planes taxi, land and airplane engines starting up and roaring overhead. When starting on the trail, parking is an issue as there's not much free parking nearby, only parking meters. Got time in Anchorage? Visit this trail you won't regret it!

We started at Elderberry Park and moved onto the Chester Creek Trail. We went about 8:45am on a Thursday. The tide was out and there were several campers/homeless people near the trail but we felt safe . It’s flat and the trail was a paved surface. There were a few cyclist and a handful of walkers/runners. We thought the Chesters Creek trail was prettier
Terri G — Google review
Favorite relaxed walk in town! It definitely does get a little crowded in the summer on nice days with tourists especially with bike rentals but it’s still a lovely path. You can walk, bike, run, longboard the whole trail or you can pick several spots to enter the trail and get a different experience in each spot. One of the best places to watch the sunset for sure! And sometimes you even get the rare caboose sighting! 🚂
Blissful B — Google review
It is a beautiful trail with multiple entrances, but there are way too many mosquitoes. Spotted a moose, which was very cool.
Daraksha M — Google review
The trail is 11 miles long and runs from Kincaid Park to downtown Anchorage. We walked a little bit of both ends of the trail. We saw 3 different moose, 2 cows and a bull with a full rack, in Kincad Park. The downtown end passes the Westchester Lagoon where we saw an Artic Tern dive bombing for food and a Trumpeter Swan. Beautiful area. Here's what I wish we had known about the trail. Ebikes are available on the north end in downtown but not in Kincaid Park on the south end. We enjoyed our walk but we could have seen the whole trail if we had known where to get bikes.
Craig W — Google review
Nice trail but more for biking than hiking. Walked a couple miles and not great views and too many bikes to be enjoyable. My mistake not knowing more before we headed out. Wouldn't make this a destination if you are in Alaska for a week or two-way better places to spend your time
Steve B — Google review
Loved the trail. Good signs. Decent surface ride on. Seen a moose and calf. Various scenery through woods and shoreline.

Great trail for running and biking. The views are exceptional and the trail is full of trees, which provide shade from the sun.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, situated in Portage Valley, is a refuge for injured and orphaned animals. Spanning 200 acres, this non-profit organization is dedicated to wildlife conservation and care. Visitors can stroll, drive or bike through the 1.5-mile loop within the sanctuary to observe animals like bison, reindeer, wolves, and bears against the stunning backdrop of Chugach mountains and Turnagain Arm Inlet coastline.
My husband and I visited the conservation center as part of a Glacier and Wildlife tour. We had an absolute blast. The bears were our favorite and we got some wonderful pictures. I enjoyed seeing animals up close that are normally behind glass at a zoo. I love the conservation efforts for the wood bison as well. We got to see some very new baby bison while we were there. I highly recommend visiting if you're in Alaska.
Samantha T — Google review
I’ve always loved this place — not only as somewhere to bring out-of-town guests, but also for a fun day trip with my daughter and her friends. The mission behind the center is truly meaningful, and I really appreciate that the animals are kept in large, natural, and humane enclosures. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and clearly care about the work they do. It’s a wonderful experience every time we visit!
Savanah E — Google review
I really want to give this place 5 stars but there were some issues that kept me from doing so. First they had hours posted. I arrived just at opening time and the gates were closed. Myself along with a few other vehicles waited at the gate for about 20 minutes. Finally a car came and told us they would not be opening until 12:30. So I left and came back. Upon coming back I was greeted by a friendly person at the toll booth. I paid my fare and entered. The first thing I noticed were a lot of the exhibits were vacant. Not sure if it was the time of year or if they had lost or removed some of the animals. I watched the crew feed bears and that was great and absolutely the highlight of the trip. In all I would say it took me about 40 minutes to see everything including the 15 minutes or so I spent watching the bear feeding. It was neat but don’t think I’d come back.
Jason K — Google review
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is an absolute gem! Watching bears roam freely in their natural habitat was breathtaking, and seeing coyotes, caribou, and other native animals up close made the experience unforgettable. The center is beautifully maintained, educational, and truly dedicated to wildlife preservation. A must-visit for anyone exploring Alaska!
Subhankar D — Google review
Had higher expectations in terms of number of bears and moose we will get to see here but turned out to be not as great as we expected. We thought of the entrance fee as a donation for the care of the amazing animals they have. We did not see a bull moose which was our main goal. We did get see musk ox and lynx which were quite cool.
Chirag S — Google review
I did the Walk on the Wild Side tour as a birthday gift to myself, and it was amazing! Ivie was a great, knowledgeable guide who was able to help me spot well hidden animals. Knowing each animals story made the visist even better. Learning about their conservation efforts through the visist gave me more insight as well. AND I got to feed Twix the porcupine! I cannot recommend this center enough. I highly recommend a tour- it gives you so much more insight to how this center is helping not only their animals, but the Wood Bison population in Alaska.
Harlow B — Google review
Amazing place to see wildlife up close. Despite the rainy day, everything was very accessible by car, with a few spots where we hopped out for a closer look. Gift shop is really quite nice and had a wide variety of gifts for anyone to find something. Great experience! Will go back!
Emily H — Google review
Very nice visit, the park can be walked as well as driven. Though walking offers a much better chance to see the animals. We were very lucky and saw both black bears within two hours of our arrival. (The walking route when done fully and slower to watch for the animals takes about an hour and 45 minutes).

Chugach State Park is a massive natural playground located within the city limits of Anchorage, Alaska. It offers diverse landscapes including rugged mountains, glaciers, lush forests, and pristine lakes. The park is home to a wide array of wildlife such as moose and bears. Visitors can explore world-class backcountry recreation through numerous trailheads within a short drive from the city center.
Beautiful park located right in town. Easy trails along the water.

I don’t know how this state park got anything less than 5 stars but it is definitely worth your time. Accessibility can be the only thing I can think of. The state park is huge and a big portion of it isn’t accessible. The parts that are, are absolutely stunning. Multiple hiking trails, camping areas, picnics, photo opportunities, and scenic views throughout. If you like the outdoors and stunning scenery, this park has what you’re looking for. You can do almost anything here as there are ample hunting and fishing locations. This is a photographers dream! The nature center in Eagle River tops it off as the best state park I e ever been in. I visit here as often as I can.
Michael — Google review
Chugach State Park is a stunning natural expanse surrounding Anchorage, encompassing over 495,000 acres of rugged mountains, glaciers, alpine lakes, and dense forests. Its proximity to the city makes it both accessible and wild, offering photographers and outdoor enthusiasts a chance to experience Alaska’s dramatic landscapes without venturing deep into remote backcountry. The park’s trails cater to all levels, from short scenic hikes to challenging climbs such as Flattop Mountain, which rewards visitors with sweeping panoramas of Anchorage, Turnagain Arm, and the surrounding Chugach Range. Lakes and rivers throughout the park provide reflections of snow-capped peaks, creating spectacular compositions for landscape photography. Wildlife abounds, including moose, bears, eagles, and mountain goats, giving photographers opportunities for wildlife shots in a natural setting. Seasonal changes dramatically transform the park: winter blankets the peaks and trails in snow, summer brings vibrant wildflowers and verdant forests, and autumn paints the valleys in rich golds and reds. Chugach State Park is a perfect blend of accessibility, rugged wilderness, and photographic potential, making it an essential destination for capturing the essence of Alaska’s majestic beauty.

Went wild blueberry picking here and it was terrific! Lots of blueberries 🫐 everywhere! Such a beautiful area. Easy to get to and accessable paths to different areas so you can spread out and enjoy larges spaces to pick blueberries. We came late in the season and there was still plenty to be picked.

Went to the Glen Alps trailhead for the viewing - spectacular! I understand that Denali might be viewed, under the right conditions. Not so for me, but I had a great view of the volcanoes to the west.

This park is one of the largest, I believe, in the country. We drove along the Seward Highway viewing beautiful country with high majestic mts some glaciated. There's so much water in Alaska, it's wonderful.

The Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet south of Anchorage is one of the most spectacular places to visit on a sunny day that I have ever visited. It is about thirty miles of each vista being better than the last. Fortunately, there are lots of turnouts where you can stop to take photos. There aren't many other amenities, at least along the road. There are a couple of gas stations near Girdwood and Girdwood is worth a stop.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
The Alaska Zoo, located in Anchorage, AK, offers a unique opportunity to experience a variety of native Alaskan mammals and birds, as well as exotic animals like tigers and camels. The zoo is committed to wildlife conservation and provides a safe environment for families to observe and learn about different species. Situated in the Hillside neighborhood, the facility participates in rescuing injured or abandoned animals from around the state.
16 bucks for veterans. The bears alone are worth the price. It's a small zoo - you can see everything in an hour if you're quick. But they've got everything you want to see and you can get pretty close. I was 3 feet from the snow leopard and 6 feet from the black bear. Overall a nice laid-back experience.
Seth — Google review
For Alaska, The Alaska Zoo is a good stop to go if you are visiting or if you have kids here in Alaska. A fun time indeed seeing the animals and if you plan right see many attractions that they have going on. We got to watch zookeepers feed some animals just because we were there at the right time! We took our time with older kids and finished in about 2 hours to see all the exhibits. Hope you get to see the Polar Bears we didn’t 😉 The brown bears exhibit makes up for that and so much more. Posted as much as allowed! I mentioned zookeepers, any staff for that matter is kind and great here. All a big plus!!
Kenny M — Google review
During our visit to Anchorage in July, we stopped in. Very clean, reasonably priced and a chance to see Alaska wildlife, much different from our Florida zoos. We arrived at 9am during a weekday, it was not crowded, and the weather was perfect. The zoo has well maintained grounds. My grandkids enjoyed it as well. While in Anchorage, it's worth the visit.
WeeWonder M — Google review
I had a great time at the Alaska Zoo! We were able to see polar bears before they went back inside. The zoo was very green and had a lot of signage throughout. The only issue I had was with a lady allowing her 2 kids to pace the wolf enclosure, making the wolves stressed out and bite each other. I saw a sign at the ox enclosure which said “do not encourage me” and I think this may be needed with the wolf enclosure as well as they get encouraged to pace the fence with kids easily. Again, loved all I saw here! It was worth the stop during my first trip to Anchorage!
Nadia A — Google review
A small zoo , easy to walk around & every exhibit set up to easily view each animal. I hope to see the exhibits renovated into larger living spaces for the animals similar to The Tiger & wolves enclosure . Overall we enjoyed our time .
Erin D — Google review
I would totally recommend the Alaska zoo if you are in Anchorage. We took advantage of late sunset and entered the gates around 4:30PM and spent our time exploring until close. We were surprised to see animals active and moving after hours. Unfortunately couldn’t spot the polar bear but loved the otters, and harbor seal exhibit around there. The musk ox (male) seemed quite aggressive due to the mating season, beware. We saw many animals such as fox, wolves, lynx, tiger, black bears, deers, grizzlies, snow leopards and other birds like bald eagle, swans too. There were less crowds, and almost had the zoo to ourselves on a weekday. Totally recommend it to all! Plenty of parking available. Tickets can be purchased onsite!
H V — Google review
Second time here, this time in summer, much better than the dead of winter! Very friendly staff, don't forget to ask for the senior discount - only $16/day - so ma y wonderful animals, the kids loved it. Nice gift shop with very helpful cashier. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Only suggestion is to put more signs to direct people to the main attractions besides the polar bears. Also Exit arrow signs would be helpful when trying to navigate through the park when the Gkids have seen enough....LOL.
Robert P — Google review
Given the size of Alaska and ample space for parking, I was shocked how small the animal enclosures were. Aside from the polar bear habitat, everything else seemed rather small and rather basic with mostly children’s playground and other plastic toys. Sadly for me, Anchorage zoo was a let down. Due to a private encounter, the polar bears weren’t visible until the very end of our visit — so make sure to check schedules before entering if you’re hoping to get a look at these beautiful animals.

Kincaid Park, located near the southern end of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail in Anchorage, is a stunning natural retreat named after former Alaska Governor Bob Kincaid. Spanning over 1,500 acres along the rugged coastline, this park offers a mix of recreational facilities and untamed wilderness. The extensive trail network covers over 40 miles and provides opportunities for activities such as hiking, trail running, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and dog mushing during winter.
This is a very beautiful park. We went to play disc golf for our first time, everyone was very friendly and was out just enjoying the day too. People had their dogs off leash and on leash we did not have any problems with either, very well behaved. They did have Warning posted all around where a Moose just had her baby to be aware and stay away from the area. We did not run into her but others did see her and advised others not to go that way.

Kincaid Park is one of the best places in Anchorage! Beautiful trails, amazing views of Cook Inlet and the mountains, and even chances to see moose and eagles. It’s peaceful, clean, and perfect for hiking, biking, or just enjoying nature. Sunset here is absolutely stunning!

I came here to see moose and did not fail! We walked a trail 10/15 minutes and saw a male moose enjoying lunch! Free parking and entry was a huge plus. We parked near clean restrooms. Would highly recommend!

Beautiful area with lots of trails for hikers and cyclists, some fully tarmacked. Some trails lead to the beach area with great views (see picture). Many of the trails pass through dense areas of trees and the other vegetation. Please stay aware in case of bears, and particularly moose, as we saw two in under 3 miles of hiking, only perhaps 30 metres off the trail (spot the young bull in my photo).

Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage, Alaska is a unique urban king salmon fishery where locals often rush after work to try their luck at catching these prized fish, which can weigh over 30 pounds. The area has historical significance as it was first settled during the construction of the Alaska Railroad in 1915. Ship Creek offers a convenient escape from the city's hustle and bustle, allowing anglers to cast for king or silver salmon within sight of office high-rises.
Biden’s inflated economy and high gas prices led my son and me to fish here more; and as a result we have had some good times here. Disclaimer: no bait was used to catch the fish pictured below in the photo's. Democrats inflated economy has driven up the prices at the local bait shack so hooks and beads must suffice.
Pablo G — Google review
Its ships creek! Where else can you catch salmon right in town. Just be mindful of the homeless in the area
Jason M — Google review
It’s such a great place to not only take in the views but also to catch ( or try at least) fish without even leaving town
Scott R — Google review
Went here because it’s salmon season. Saw a lonely fisherman and not only a single fish…
Leticia F — Google review
I have been fishing this creek every summer for the last 10 years. I love it! 5 minutes from work. 10 minutes from home. Over the years I have learned how to ease myself into the crowd at the popular spots and when/where else to go when the crowd is too dense. Beside a few inconsiderate actors every now and then, the creek provides the best place to catch king salmon, silver salmon, and a lot of pinks in a city. It's nice to always have a crowd fishing the creek. It's saddening to see people trashing the place as well....

There's a fairly short walking/bicycle trail beside the creek that is cool to view Salmon who are traveling upstream. Use caution as Bears have been seen near this creek catching fish.

The Alaska Aviation Museum offers a fascinating journey through the state's aviation history, showcasing over 25 vintage aircraft, a flight simulator, and a theater. Visitors can witness the restoration of historic planes and engage with knowledgeable docents who share their experiences as bush pilots. Notable exhibits include the first plane to land on Denali in the 1930s and a restored 1931 Fairchild Pilgrim aircraft.
Right outside the aviation museum are float planes taking off, landing, birthed, and being worked on. Inside the museum are some beautifully restored planes to see. Many displays to look at, both indoors and outdoors. You are able to get up close to the exhibits. You can spend some time here looking at everything.

Nice air museum. They do a nice feature on Alaska's part and battle in WWII. There is some focus on flying in the tough terrain and weather. There is a more modern Boeing you can walk inside of. There is also a watch tower you can view the lake and watch sea plans land & take off. The museum is not very big but has interesting exhibits to offer. Its price appropriately. Proximity to the airport makes it a great stop before your flight. Overall I would recommend.
Toni S — Google review
Great museum, highly recommended! Three large hangers and an outside lot packed with aircraft and appurtenances with so much information. Fun for the whole family, ages 5 - 85, we all had a great time! Special shout out to Angie for taking great care of us, providing a wheelchair for grandpa and helping us find perfect souvenirs, thank you!

The annual fly over event on Saturday, June 29, 2025 was a very warm and beautiful day to be outside.

Awesome little museum! You can see all kinds of older airplanes and learn so much about aviation history. At the end of all the hangars, you can climb up a viewing tower and watch seaplanes take off and land right from the lake. We spent about 2 hours there and I could have easily stayed longer and read more of the info. Only thing I would change is a better labeling and titling of the written information, as it wasn't always clear how things were grouped together.

Unbelievable amount of super amazing artifacts. Great attention to the aviation battles of the Aleutian Islands in WWII, which I was not aware of. Super great staff and curation. I really didn’t know what to expect, but I walked away very satisfied. They even fired up a vintage float plane and got it airborne from Lake Hood, right behind the museum! How cool is that?!? Such a great experience. Highly recommend!

This lake is a special place! Visited here recently and all I can say is WOW! I've visited Crater Lake in Oregon, and I can say that this lake is much more special than Crater Lake! It is quiet and the awesome part is it is off of the highway, and the noise level is next to none. I highly recommend coming to visit this lake! It's the best lake I've ever visited!

Eklutna lake was amazing, we ended up only walking for about 8 miles total, but there was so much more to explore! They have bike and kayak rentals. Some parts of the trail have been effected by erosion, so be careful close to the edge of the trail closest to the water. We didn’t see any big wildlife but saw a huge bear paw print in some fresh mud!

Despite Alaska's cold climate, the garden thrives with an abundance of summer arctic growing season flora.
We had such a delightful time together, walking on the garden paths and exploring the gardens! So much beauty and color to see everywhere you look! Peonies, those stunning beauties and my personal favorite, are showcasing their blooms, encouraging visits from bees 🐝 happy to oblige! While still other varieties of peonies are just thinking about budding. Many Star Gazers are out, as are the delicate and colorful Columbine. The ever magnificent Chocolate Lilies would not go unnoticed! So much vibrancy and greenery here! This was my first time exploring the gardens at this time of year> mid June. Many flower buds teasing you with their promise of full bloom, and tempting you to return and discover their beauty in within several weeks! Unfortunately, the majority of my picture taking was with another camera, but I hope this offering, will delight you nonetheless.

I wish I could have showed up earlier to have enough time to see it all. Amazing place.

The Oscar Anderson House Museum, a small wood-paneled house built in 1915, stands as a tribute to early Anchorage life. It was the first permanent structure in the area when Anchorage was just a tent city. The house belonged to Oscar Anderson, an enterprising Swede who played a significant role in the city's development. Filled with antiques, this museum offers visitors a glimpse into early Anchorage history.
Our tour guide went Above & Beyond to make sure we had a very educational & enjoyable tour of the Oscar Anderson House. Great memories for the family. Thank you!

The wonderful lady giving the tour was very knowledgeable. She walked us through the whole house, which was build for one of the first families in Anchorage. She answered all my children's endless questions. I brought 4 children ages 13-7 and they all enjoyed seeing the historical items and learning about early Anchorage.

This place is a hidden gem of Anchorage & great place to visit. There are lots of antiques & heirlooms from the Anderson family that are all out in the open to view as opposed to most museums that have a wall plexiglass as a barrier. I highly recommend the guided tour with Amy who is so nice about answering questions, but also very knowledgeable about everything in the house. The guided tour can be booked on line via email. As a side note, the house is located in Elderberry Park that is by the coastal trail. So we had a lovely afternoon as we did the the Anderson house, rented bikes & had some tacos at food cart close by.....

Earthquake Park in Anchorage, Alaska, is a 134-acre area that bears witness to the devastating 1964 earthquake. The park offers trails and an interpretive display that educates visitors about the impact of the powerful earthquake. It's a prime spot to view the downtown skyline and features several memorials commemorating the event. The park provides a five-mile hike through wooded areas, creeks, and other destinations while offering relaxing rest spots along the way.
A beautiful park that provides a window on local history, geology, and the site of the the largest earthquake in North America in 1964. There is plenty of informative signage and trail paths that follow the landslides. This is also a great place to take pics of Denali and the Alaska range. I was told there might be wildlife there - saw plenty of moose droppings but no moose! While I was there in the winter, I saw plenty of people cycling, running and I have hear that you can also cross country skiing as the park connects to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Probably a great place for a picnic in the summer as well! There are a few parking areas for cars and buses. Definitely a place worth checking out!

Earthquake Park gives visitors insight into one of the pivotal moments in Alaska history: the 1964 Earthquake. The quake on March 27 – Good Friday – measured 9.2 in magnitude and was the largest quake ever recorded in North America. This is a great place to visit. There are plenty of walking and biking trails as well as free parking. There is a monument commemorating the 1964 earthquake as well as informational plaques in the park. It overlooks the water and offers beautiful, majestic views. A great place to visit. A must if you’re visiting Anchorage.

This is a free public park monumenting the great earthquake of 1964 in Anchorage. After a half century you can still see how the area changed. Easy paved walking paths, also part of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. You will see locals running, biking, and walking thru here. It's an interesting point of interest. There's a parking lot at the trail head with ample parking. There are no restrooms facilities here. This area is beautiful and peaceful.

Here you can see what it means when our planet shakes for 4+ minutes- and the soil liquifies underneath ones house. OMG. Even today, 2025, how bad it slid is still easily seen from the tour bus. One no longer needs to get out of the bus. However, if you do- check out the picks- so worth it.

The picturesque mountain setting is home to a network of hiking trails that lead through stunning landscapes. Just a short drive from Anchorage, visitors can enjoy wildlife viewing and educational programs about the local flora and fauna.
What a fantastic place to find on vacation! We were just looking for a scenic lookout to see the mountains and the road ended into the nature center so we decided to have a look around. The staff inside the center were all super-friendly and took the time to listen to our stories and tell their own and recommended a trail based on what we told them. A quarter mile up the trail from the nature center we came to an overlook looking over the river/marsh and there was a huge bull moose in the water munching away on whatever it could dredge up from the water. The scenery is beautiful (even without the moose). Picturesque mountains, a beaver dam, and lush forests made our hike incredible. Everything was impeccably maintained; the nature center, both boardwalks we encountered, and the trails were all perfect. And then, to top it off, our son accidentally left his favorite sweatshirt behind on one of the boardwalks when we continued our hike. We left and didn't notice it was gone. We came back 4 hours later hoping someone turned it in at the nature center. No one had so I took a quick re-hike to retrace our steps. The sweatshirt was exactly where he had left it; no one had touched it the whole time we were gone. Super-cool place and great views. Would hike again!

During the salmon runs you can run into brown bears. Be sure to check the recent bear activity signs before heading in. They update the signs for trail closures as well. The staff love their jobs and are very friendly. There are tons of programs for kids and lots of events here. Don’t miss out!

You don’t walk at the places with $25 ticket. If you are interested in longer version of this tour, it would cost you $50. So, plan and book appropriately.

I enjoyed the tour and what I learned about the City of Anchorage. I might have opted for the two hour tour if I would have had the time! Our driver/guide was wonderful; the perfect amount of wisdom and wit! The trolley itself was comfortable, very clean and safe. There was only one brief stop for photos - so check to see if the two hours allows for more photo stops. As a travel designer it’s important that I experience tours of this nature. Happy to share that this tour provides a quick, informative and interesting perspective on Anchorage and one you are sure to enjoy.

The one hour tour is great value! My friends who did it shared interesting facts with me that weren't mentioned on my tour and they got to see moose! However, I did the Deluxe Tour since there would be more time for taking photos. I'm not sure it was worth twice the cost overall. I was sad to not see any moose. Nice to know that restrooms/portapotties were available at most stops. Tips: Mondays are slow days for watching seaplanes/float planes. Weekends are best. Mosquitos love Earthquake Park.

Ace was a wonderful tour guide and we enjoyed our tour immensely. He volunteered to take pictures for us at every stop. He told great stories of the history and all the locals. We enjoyed watching the fishermen from the bridge and being able to kind of see Mt McKinley in the distance and all the other stops!

Potter Marsh, located in the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge in South Anchorage, offers a leisurely walk on well-maintained boardwalks with opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. The right-hand boardwalk provides excellent fish viewing, especially during midsummer when various salmon species can be seen. Families will find it a friendly place to visit, with easy parking and ample photo opportunities along the way.
This was an excellent stop on the way to Seward. We only had 20 mins to explore but it had a boardwalk that made it easy for a low mobility person in our party able to enjoy the beauty. Although we did not see the moose we heard frequents this area we did see an eagle with the eaglets. There were benches you can rest on the way around the marsh if needed.
Vanessa S — Google review
We went there this summer and it was a perfect activity to do with the family. Parking was easy, not too congested at all. The condition of the walkway was well-maintained and we were able to stop along the way for a lot of photo opportunities. We even ran into a bird watching couple that helped us locate a bald eagle's nest using the built-in magnifying viewers. It's best to go on a clear day so you can get views on the mountain range as a gorgeous backdrop for your photos. Also bring your reading glasses because there are a fair amount of educational signage.

Housed in a sod-roofed log cabin, the center offers local exhibits and travel guidance for visitors. While the cabin itself is not the main place for information, visitors can find a spacious area at the back with plenty of brochures from around the state and helpful staff.
It was beautiful with all the flowers & the grass roof & the ladies inside were very informative... Thank you volunteers! This is where we picked up the trolley tour, which I would highly recommend, as long as you ask for Donna on "The Don" trolley! She was amazing!!

The visitors centre was just a block from our hotel. Very nicely setup as a log cabin with many Alaska wildflowers planted all around. I loved the signpost on the outside telling me how far it was to far off and remote destinations. Very helpful staff inside.

Great place to get questions answered about the city and things to do. The best parts were the seating area by the fireplace, a little toasty for this summer day, and the postcards they would postage and send for you for FREE! We sent a couple to friends and family back home, so make sure you have some addresses handy.

This was a very nice tour of some of the spots one might not think of in Alaska. Especially the details about the history and also current events happening in Anchorage. The guide was very informative and willing to answer all questions offered by us passengers. My husband and I had trouble sitting together because we got on the trolley late and a pair traveling together did not want to sit together. However, this was no fault of the Trolley company.

The Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary is a beautiful spot in Anchorage that protects the natural habitats of 130 bird species. It's best visited from late April through September, when you may spot Canada geese, gulls, shorebirds, trumpeter swans, canvasback ducks, red-necked phalaropes, northern pintails, horned grebes, and more.
A really cool walk! Great way to see birds and experience the marsh of alaska! Plenty of overlooks and signs and information. Watch out for bears and Moose! Also eagles. We saw several eagles. There are bathrooms at the parking lot. Plenty of parking. Bathrooms are not the best so I recommend trying to hold it if you can. More like glorified portable potties.

It is a beautiful place. It is very well maintained with a nice broadwalk. It is very close to Anchorage on Seward Highway and easy to access. We spotted Male bald eagle protecting it Nest, an Article Tern and Black-billed Magpie. Listening to birds and identifying sounds was fun too. Tip- carry binoculars with you.

Potter Marsh is a perfect place to visit if you don’t want to travel too far from the city for a spectacular scenery. This boardwalk is build over the Marsh land and can provide the sight of wide variety of bird species on your walk. We saw several salmon that were swimming upstream into the creek for spawning. I would totally recommend this place to all. Restrooms available. Plenty of parking. Follow the trail and leave no trace.

The Alaska Public Lands Information Center, located in the historic Federal Building, serves as a hub for visitors seeking information about federal lands in Alaska. Operated by National Park Service rangers, it offers educational exhibits on Alaskan wildlife and landscapes, along with guided historical walks and nature videos. The center also houses a bookstore with a wide selection of Alaskan titles and an auditorium for talks and screenings.
Just be aware that you will have to have your bag scanned to go into the building because it is the federal building. When you walk in, they will direct you to where the information center is. There was a really nice Ranger that spoke to us about things and they offer multiple movies about Alaska in the area.

This is an excellent and free resource in Anchorage I would highly recommend you give it a look while in the area. Be aware you need to enter through security screening since this is a federal building but once you do you hve access to Rangers, beautiful wildlife displays, live webcames of bears in Katmai National Park, and a theatre showing rotating films and in our case a live discussion of Magpies with a rescue animal. There is also a gift shop and clean restrooms.

This is a must stop for Alaska information center/visitor center. This is a federal building, you must go through same procedure as all secure building, metal detectors, no knives or weapons. Once you get in the park ranger who facilitated gift shop also operate theatre will greet you. There are tons of info about each section of Alaska and wild life. it’s a self guided tour. It’s very cool to be in the historic building. It used to be post office before. There is a big section of how important ithis building is to anchorage. Unfortunately, around the building, there is no free parking available, only pay parking on the street.

Federal building so had to go through a metal detector but was very fast and no problem. A small free museum with lots of great info about the area and wildlife, free historical films, and a national park service ranger was there to answer questions and give information. It is across the street from where you can pick up the trolley if you want to do that. The museum is an easy walk from the captain cook hotel.

I like this platform park. It's on a serious slope but the designers reinforced it with steel and sturdy wood to hold up Captain Cook statue and any visitors. The wooden platform turns a circular path for all people, including the elderly and the people confined to wheelchair mobility to access. The sunset is gorgeous over the Knik Arm and the mudflat from this perspective. A few hundred feet away are eateries and pubs. I recommend a visit.

Eklutna Historical Park, located just a 30-minute drive from downtown, is an ancient Athabaskan settlement that beautifully blends Native and Russian Orthodox cultures. The park features a stunning Russian Orthodox log church and a cemetery adorned with vibrant spirit houses. These colorful wooden boxes, built over graves to represent family names, reflect the unique combination of Athabascan tradition and influence from Russian Orthodox missionaries.
Really interesting grave markers. Little houses! Apparently, these are built to give the spirits a place to haunt for the first 40 days after death.

We stopped here in Eklutna will in Alaska. I've been here many time even when younger much younger. The place as aged and so have a lot of houses over the graves. The front grave sites have seen better days but keep walking through and you'll see newer houses. It's a great little historical sight just off the Glen Highway in Eklutna. It's free so that good but donate to help out, there is a collection station. Will I go back? Of course just don't know when.

visited early morning after a hike at thunderbird falls. we were the only living souls present. super cool place to stop, walk around, honor the dead. wish it was more taken care of, it was overgrown and a lot of the spirit houses were decaying. still beautiful and moving to witness.

This is a really unusual and unique little place, initially it appears completely abandoned but there are some people still living in the area and a number of the graves are recent. It’s a quick excursion but it’s worth taking the time to visit if you happen to be in the area.

We loved this tour. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Eastern Orthodox church. He obviously has a lot of pride in this church and cemetery. The spirit houses were something I had never heard of and his excitement transferred to us when he was talking about several of the houses in this cemetery. I would recommend this tour to anyone. We even brought of 6 year old granddaughter with us and she enjoyed the experience as well.
Kathy C — Google review
We mistakenly went to the "active" church instead of the historical one right beside, but the parishioners and priest inside had just finished services and were eager to talk so it worked out. Wish we could have stayed longer. I enjoyed learning about the church and the history. Super nice people! Be respectful of the spirit houses, as it is a cemetery, and do leave a donation in the box to help with upkeep. $5 a person is recommended.

This is a free pull off the side of the road point of interest on Seward Highway at mile 110. This is definitely worth the stop. Great photo and video opportunities here. Tho we weren't lucky enough to spot a bugula whale, the vista is stunningly beautiful. We stopped on a cold and cloudy Tuesday afternoon. The wind was fairly strong. We spent a good 15 minutes here. Plenty of parking. There are no restrooms or permanent buildings here.

Neat pull off on the Seward highway. Occasionally you can see marine wildlife in the turnagain arm or goats on the cliffs of the mountains. It offers great views of the mountains. You will need to walk around and go across the train tracks to get the better views. There are steep inclines so it isn’t entirely safe for small children. The views are vastly different from summer to winter.

Stopped at Beluga Point, great views of the mountain range across the water. Behind you can sometimes see sheep/goats (we did not). Good spot for some selfies too. It is a pull off paved parking spot and we stopped during the week so it was not busy.

Beluga Point is an absolutely beautiful scenic viewpoint located along the Seward Highway, offering stunning views of Turnagain Arm and the surrounding Chugach Mountains. Is located about 25 minutes from downtown Anchorage, Alaska and is a popular spot for wildlife viewing, particularly for beluga whales, which can often be seen swimming in the waters below. Absolutely breathtaking views from this area. There are binoculars available as well as an information plaque about beluga whales. Parking is free. There are no park benches or picnic tables here. Definitely worth stopping and taking pictures and videos. This point highlights the beauty of the Alaska coast and landscape.

Sunrise and sunset is when you want to be here! Beautiful, breathtaking, unforgettable ❤️!!! When looking for the whales 🐋 watch for something floating on the water but not going with the flow. Be patient 🙏 and you will see them break the water. I am pretty sure they sleep in this area at night and go further out during the day. Make sure you schedule the whole day just taking it all in. It is just a 30ish mile stretch but the hours quickly slip by. And please put your phone down for once and dont look at the scenery through the lense. Be in the moment. Breathe the air, feel the sun, smell the ocean, see the world, remember the moment!

One of my favorite places to go just right out of town. Lots of places you can hike around this area. But you need to go to the opposite side of Beluga to get into the hiking and climbing. Kaladi Brothers Coffee is a popular coffeehouse chain known for its air-roasted beans and trendy atmosphere. Originating from a street cart in Anchorage, Alaska in 1984, the brand has since expanded to multiple locations within and outside the state. Customers praise the Anchorage outlets for their scenic views, spacious interiors, and friendly staff. While some note slow service at times, the quality of beverages remains consistently high.
Kaladi Brothers was always my 1st stop every morning before heading out to do some errands. I live on a tropical island far away so having the reindeer sausage burrito was a rare treat so it was my go to order. Love the place and I can’t wait to drop by again!
Andy H — Google review
Boy did I want to like this place but their hot cocoa was atrocious! I've heard good things about their coffee, but I don't do that so the hot chocolate had to suffice at the grading scale. Barely any flavor and no creaminess. Luckily, the atmosphere and staff brought it up to an above average rating.

This coffee shop has a warm, inviting ambience that makes it the perfect place to linger, whether you’re catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment with a book. The people behind the counter are genuinely friendly and seem to take pride in every cup they serve, adding to the overall charm of the place. While the menu offers a variety of great options, the standout is definitely their Kaladi coffee—a rich, aromatic brew that’s an absolute must-try for any coffee lover.

This is a good spot to have a small meeting or spend time with a friend. Spacious enough with many tables and seating options. I was there for a meet and greet business meeting. The service was a little slow in my opinion and besides the cashier the baristas were grumpy. I am sure it was a long morning as it was noon when I was there. This kept me from giving the full 5 stars. The americano I ordered was good! Kaladi coffee drinks typically are and so is this location.

The latte is very smooth! Really enjoyed it. The menu was not posted online so it took me a moment to scan the items in line before ordering. Also, the flavor list was posted after ordering. Prices were not posted for their water bottles either and I felt too rushed to ask about it. But overall, very happy with the coffee

It is a nice coffee shop with a great view of the mountains. Inside has the feeling of a nice coffee shop with some art on the walls and a coffee bar with bakery and food items located there as well. The cashier and cook didn't have the best of customer service mannerisms but they still did their job and got the coffee and burrito I had ordered out to me. Still I would recommend making a stop here and getting some coffee and enjoy the mountain views.

Alpine Air Alaska, founded in 1991, offers exceptional flightseeing tours and air transport services for both locals and tourists. Their helicopter tours provide unforgettable experiences, allowing you to explore the stunning Chugach Mountains, one of the most glaciated mountain ranges in the area. With options for 30-minute, 60-minute, and 90-minute tours, knowledgeable guides share historical insights and little-known facts about the region.
I have lived in Alaska for 35 years and I've hiked and packed extensively with family and friends through some of the most beautiful locations in the state. Apart from a glacier landing on Denali, the experience I enjoyed with my two sons on Alpine Air this past Friday rates as a very close second. Our pilot was fabulous along with all the staff who welcomed & oriented us prior to our flight. If you can afford to take this adventure, I think you will be stunned at what you will see from a very 'up close' perspective that few get to glimpse. This is a professional operation, and you will notice it as soon as you arrive on site.
Dennis S — Google review
Went on the Glacier Discovery tour. Unfortunately, we had to skip the glacier landing due to weathers, but we still had an incredible time. I had seen multiple hanging glaciers and glacier faces before via boat or hiking, but this helicopter tour allowed me to experience how colossal and striking glaciers can be. I’d highly recommend this operator to anyone. Every single one of the staff was super nice, kind, and helpful. The reservation team worked with my schedule to arrange a last minute tour and transfer. Kris picked us up from Anchorage and told us many interesting tales about Alaska and his life. And Jonathan, our pilot/guide was awesome! He ensured we saw great views and made sure we returned safely despite all the turbulence. He also helped us spot the trifecta of brown bears, moose, and goats in the wild, which was a pleasant surprise. And it’s always a good sight when your guide is as excited about the scenery as you are. Jonathan absolutely made the trip wonderful and enjoyable despite all the winds and turbulence.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had such an amazing experience with Alpine Air Alaska! The helicopter ride itself was smooth and exciting, and the views were absolutely breathtaking — glaciers, mountains, and endless Alaskan scenery that you just can’t capture in photos. The highlight of the trip was spotting bears from above, which made the adventure even more unforgettable. The whole experience was both thrilling and peaceful at the same time. If you’re visiting Alaska and want something truly special, I can’t recommend Alpine Air Alaska enough. It was one of the most fun and memorable things we did on our trip!
Husnain S — Google review
The trip was amazing!!! It was my first time in a helicopter, but the staff and the pilot made me feel so comfortable and welcome. They also were able to accommodate me as a single traveler, which I greatly appreciated. The flight gave incredible views of the glacier and the surrounding landscape, and getting to land on and explore the glacier was so, so cool. I learned a lot about glaciers and got some AMAZING pictures, and got to try some glacier water. I would absolutely recommend this experience to everyone!!!!

Quite Possibly one of the top 2 excursions we took on our Alaska Adventure. The Helicopter trip - while short - was a fantastic trip. The Pilot was chatty - Flight was smooth - 5-stars for this segment. Then we experienced the Sled Dog Team and got to go mushing. WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Can't recommend enough. The staff was incredible, the dogs were so fun and interesting and then the mushing on a Glacier - absolutely more than we could have asked or imagined. EVERYONE was incredible. Can't thank the staff enough for their attention to details and taking care of our needs so well. We felt spoiled from the first step into the office - to the first steps on the glacier - to the return trip. This was truly a 5+ STAR Experience. Thank you Alpine Air. Simply Outstanding. I highly recommend Alpine Air Alaska. We booked a beautiful tour of the glaciers and were in awe of the beauty of Alaska that you can only experience in the air. The office staff was very kind in preparing us for the experience. Our pilot, Ryan, is an exceptional pilot which made the ride very smooth and fun; furthermore he was very knowledgeable in every aspect of our tour. It was "pretty cool".

We booked Alpine Air for a glacier elopement and were so happy with the results! Since we had two separate helicopters the staff worked with us to keep my husband and I separate so that we could do our first look out at the glacier. Their pilots were also wonderful! They worked well with our photographers to find the perfect spot for the ceremony, took us to a second location for more photos, and even picked me a bouquet of wildflowers since I forgot my flowers! Truly great service!

They picked us up in a heated van and took us far out of the city to better our chances of seeing the lights. Based on that experience we ended up booking a glacier hiking tour on the same trip. Again, great experience and knowledgeable guides. We came back to explore Alaska in the summer and booked a kayaking glacier tour. We lucked out and it was just us on this tour. The guides were helpful and down to earth. Highly recommend checking out Greatland for one of their many tours.

We had the most amazing kayaking trip to Spencer Glacier with Greatland Adventures! Our driver and guide, Dana, was incredible—she knew so many fascinating facts about every place we passed on the drive and made the journey just as fun as the destination. She went above and beyond to make sure we were having the best time and truly helped make our Alaska dreams come true. The entire experience was seamless, unforgettable, and so much fun. I highly recommend Greatland Adventures for any of your Alaska adventures—you won’t regret it!

Tim was an amazing tour guide. He was on time and the car was so nice and clean. We felt like VIPs the entire day! We learned a lot and it was just a perfect vacation day for us. We really loved the waterfall we were able to see as well as the bonus to see Whittier since the tram was closed. We are very thankful we booked with you guys and wouldn't change a thing about our experience!

We had a tour with the guide, Tim. He picked us up at 8am and drove us to Matanuska Glacier in a clean and comfortable van. On the two-hour drive, we could enjoy a beautiful scenic view surrounding us, and Tim shared wish us interesting stories and facts about the nature here with extensive knowledge—And he already prepared snacks and bottles of water inside the van, which we enjoyed as well. Once we arrived the glacier, Tim offered us full ice equipment—helmets, ice cleats—and a brief on safety instructions. (Though we speak English, he even printed out a paper of instructions in Korean just in case that we don't speak English, showing that he's friendly towards any guest from the world.) We walked on the glacier SURFACE for 1.5 hours with his explanations of the terrain, which was one of the most amazing experiences I had in Alaska. The loop was easy and safe to walk, with Tim taking care of our safety all the time. After the walk, we had a lunch at Long Rifle Lodge which was 10mins drive from the glacier. We had delicious menus—a blueberry taco (Tim told us that blueberries are ripe in late summer in Alaska) and a burger—that were covered in the tour. Then we were driven to and dropped off at the hotel. I thank Tim a lot for all the enjoyment we had during the trip, and I'd definitely like to join WINTER adventures in Alaska with you, next time we visit Alaska again. + Your red-tinted glasses were so stylish. Where did you get them?

We booked the glacier kayak tour for early September, and it was amazing! From the drive to the train station, the train ride and the kayaking part, everything was well planned and our guide, Tim, gave us a lot of information all throughout the experience. Would definitely consider them again next time we'll visit Alaska!

Our small group of 4 did a private glacier hike with GA on the Matanuska Glacier. Our guide Bill was clearly a very experienced glacier guide and he took the time to explain all the different characteristics of glaciers during the drive there, and during the hike itself. He was quite patient with the less coordinated hikers(specifically, me!) and was careful to scout out routes on the glacier to check if they would be suitable for us “glacier hiking newbies”. Once he even used his ice pick to carve “steps” into the ice to help make it a tad easier to traverse a more challenging area. The entire hike was an exhilarating experience and I highly recommend this particular hike as it truly is unlike any other.

We had an amazing kayaking trip with the team at Spencer Glacier. The team from the office staff to guides (thank you Rochelle and Tim) were so efficient and flexible to make sure we had the best time possible with our ultra last minute booking. They were incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable and I would definitely book tours with them again whenever I’m back in Anchorage

This is a must tour for Anchorage. Tim was amazing. From picking up on time, to strange knowledge about the entire area. We did have an ice cleat malfunction but he had more to spare and even swapped his out with the malfunctioning set. Kept us on a safe route and took us to some very beautiful picture spots. Even a little "waterfall" for some really fresh glacier water. Highly recommend.

Go Hike Alaska offers a variety of walks and hikes in Chugach State Park, located near Anchorage. The park spans nearly half a million acres and features 16 accessible trailheads with access to 280 miles of trails. Whether you're new to Alaska or looking for a guided experience, Go Hike Alaska provides knowledgeable guides like Bryce and Matt who offer informative and enjoyable excursions.
We were lucky to not have anyone else on our snowshoe excursion, and Matt was an awesome guide! You can tell how much passion he has for the Alaskan wilderness and making sure his guests have a great time. He is super knowledgeable about the local areas as well as local flora and fauna and was just a really cool dude to hike with. Also, a group of ravens is called an unkindness or conspiracy.

Mike was a phenomenal guide on our snow shoe hike adventure today. It was actively snowing on us all day as we hiked about 3.5 miles in and out of hemlock forests, easily maneuvering over snow drifts and mountain terrain. We loved this experience... it was perfect for us, away from crowds, alone in Alaskan wilderness with someone who made us feel safe and took our interests and likes into account as he scouted out our route along the base of Flattop mountain. Highly recommend Mike for any hike.

Hike with Mike! My husband and I had the best hiking experience at Eagle River and Barbara Falls. Our guide Mike was so fun, down to earth and knowledgeable and we genuinely enjoyed his company the entire time. The scenery was completely gorgeous and the challenge level of the trail was exactly as they described. Using Go Hike Alaska made us feel safe going into the woods because Mike was prepared with all the things! We learned so many interesting facts that seemed to connect all that we had learned so far about Alaska, into a complete picture. Hiking with Mike was our last planned outing of a two-week adventure and it was the perfect way to end the trip before being on a plane for 9 hours the next day. If we are fortunate enough to visit the state again, we definitely plan on signing up for another hike! Do it, you won't regret it.

Went on the Winter Waterfall Hike. Amazing views, fun facts galore about Alaska, wildlife and trivia, and of course, the opportunity to walk alongside and over a half-frozen river to a beautiful waterfall. Mike and Bryce were wonderful guides; make sure you experience this wonderful mini-adventure.

If you are looking for a truly unique, personalized adventure literally “off the beaten path” then this excursion is for you! Our guide/owner Matt was amazing. His knowledge of the Alaskan flora and fauna was outstanding! We had a blast foraging for everything edible in the vast Alaskan forest including plant leaves, flowers and mushrooms. After hiking and foraging, Matt found a super cool location to break out the cooking gear and make lunch. He is an expert chef and involved our group in all aspects of the meal prep process. I felt like I was out on an adventure with an old friend. Don’t miss this incredible experience while in Anchorage!!

Excellent experience! Eli was a terrific guide and provided and safe and enjoyable hike. At the start, he asked the right questions to make sure he selected a hike that suited my abilities. As we hiked, Eli was knowledgeable of the local flora and fauna, and stopped briefly as we encountered examples of interesting plants or rock formations to tell me about them. I recommend this company to any individual or small group looking for a hike.

I'm not an outdoorsy person, but I knew I wanted to step out of my comfort zone to really appreciate the beauty of Alaska while there on vacation over Memorial Day weekend. I found Go Hike Alaska through the Anchorage tourism website, and I'm so happy I booked the Chugach State Park Nature Walk. Matt was an absolute pro and really helped our small group learn a lot, laugh a lot, have some fun, and see some really beautiful flora and fauna. He was patient with our questions and really knowledgeable of the park, everything in it, and the history of the area. I know he does bigger, more challenging hikes and excursions which I'd definitely recommend for those looking for it. But if you're like me, and looking for an accessible, beginner-friendly experience with an expert guide to help you have fun and really take in the beauty of Alaska, I can't recommend Matt, Go Hike Alaska, and the Nature Walk tour enough! It was the highlight of my trip to Anchorage and really proved that the outdoors is for everyone! And Go Hike Alaska definitely delivered on that. Thanks again!

I can't recommend Matt and his team of guides at Go Hike Alaska enough! I've done both an Alpine Trek day hike with guide Leah around Labor Day of 2022, and most recently the Advanced Snowshoeing Adventure in January of 2023. Both trips were absolutely stunning, well run, and perfect outings to get out of Anchorage proper when one doesn't have time for a multi-day adventure. Both excursions were a quick drive from Anchorage, and I was picked up and dropped off right at or near my hotel, perfect for those that may not have a rental vehicle. The guides (including owner Matt, who did my snowshoeing outing) are incredibly knowledgeable, and eager to share their knowledge and love for Alaska. There are outings to suit all fitness levels, abilities and schedules (half day and full day). The snowshoeing trip was quite a workout but an absolute blast with breathtaking views; we experienced everything from a good snow to sun peeking above the mountains and casting the most gorgeous light ever. The photos I have from both trips are stunning and I have people ask me all the time "where did you go to see all of that??" I plan to book a backpacking trip with them as soon as my schedule allows, dream trip!

Alaska Photo Treks is a photography tour and workshop company based in Anchorage, run by a team of professional Alaskan photographers. They offer a variety of tours catering to different photographic needs, from beginners to professionals. The tours take participants to some of the most scenic locations in the country, with options for single day, multi-day, winter treks, and custom-designed tours.
Wow, what an incredible tour! Collin is an absolute expert, and he led us to the most breathtaking spot. It was a bit of a challenge because the sky was cloudy, but we were still lucky enough to witness a stunning aurora. Collin even set up my camera, so I was able to capture so many amazing pictures. It was an unforgettable experience! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly memorable trip.

Even though we're not big into photography, we really enjoyed our trip with Alaska Photo Treks. We especially loved getting to see and explore the areas outside Anchorage. We'd hoped to see more animals (we only spotted one moose calf!), but the scenery was absolutely stunning, and we even picked up some keeper tips for taking better iPhone photos. I'm giving this four out of five stars because I expected a more animal-focused experience. We spent a bit too much time at each location photographing plants and scenery, which wasn't a main interest for anyone in our three-person group (my spouse included). Maybe I should have done more research before booking, but I did note this in the pre-trip questionnaire. Still, we saw incredibly beautiful places, and it was a fantastic introduction to the nature around Anchorage. I just wished for a bit more movement.

I cannot recommend this tour enough! Erica & Colin were wonderful - they were so helpful in getting my camera settings where they needed to. They made sure everyone was comfortable and I think the pictures speak for themselves! I have very little photography experience and was able to get these with their help!

This was a wonderful experience! Our guide, Terry, took us to popular scenic spots and secret hidden gems of the area, where we were able to get some really special photographs. She gave us simple tips and advice that helped us improve our photography skills exponentially! Terry was knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and so helpful. We spent several hours driving to different locations and taking photographs. Even though the conditions were rainy, we got some incredible shots. Thanks so much for a wonderful photography, oriented experience in Alaska!

A huge shoutout to our private guide, Ben - he absolutely went above and beyond! His passion for photography and Alaska's stunning landscapes made for an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend Alaska Photo Treks for anyone looking for a top-notch photography adventure in Alaska.

I was able to do both a day and night tour with this professional, and highly knowledgeable company. During the day I spent time with Carl, a military veteran, and learned several things about my camera’s features and how to actual make the adjustments for the time of photos I personally would enjoy. Carl also was very knowledgeable about the Anchorage area and its history so we were able to capture some unique moments on the tour. The night tour was with Ben and Colin which are also both very personable and professional. They were able to manage a group of viewers, equipment, and keep everyone warm at -6 degrees F. There was a mix-up in my booking and it was fixed and I was refunded for the rental camera I was not able to use. My only other issues were the campiness and length spent in the vehicles. I do highly recommend working with this company because they do enjoy helping people make the most of the experience and opportunity to capture the truly beautiful and mystical environment of Anchorage, Alaska and the Northern Lights.
Chad K — Google review
I toured with Chad and STRONGLY recommend not only Alaska Photo Treks, but if you can get him as your guide, I'd say you've scored! Chad makes it his personal quest for you to see Aurora. In addition to chasing the lights like a person on a mission, he relies on data to show the strength of the lights and identifies locations as only a local can do to maximize the experience. I've been chasing Northern Lights all around the world for years and FINALLY I've seen what I've been looking for in so many cool places. Thanks to Chad, my obsession is now locked in :) OH! And don't think just because your trek is over that you've necessarily ended your adventure! He gave me great advice last night after I'd left Anchorage for Fairbanks...and I saw Aurora again thanks to his guidance and suggestions.

Nestled within Chugach State Park, the Anchorage Overlook Trail offers a convenient and accessible way to take in breathtaking panoramic views. Just a short walk from the parking lot, this trail leads to a viewing deck where visitors can marvel at the city of Anchorage, Denali, and volcanic landscapes. The wheelchair-accessible route features a sitting area and is particularly popular for witnessing stunning sunsets, although it can get windy.
A beautiful little trail that's super easy, paved and everything, and gives a great overlook of the city. There's a giant metal compass at the top that points to different mountains and on a clear day you can even see Denali. Unfortunately there was some vandalism up there in the last couple days, though I would still go especially if you're a tourist looking for an easy hike or just want a pretty view. The trail is only about half a mile long so just about anyone can do it, even small kids.

Easy short trail from the parking lot with a great view! $5 for parking. You can also do the flattop trail and blueberry knoll trail from the same parking lot, but it is steep in some places and we did not see any blueberries.

The Williwaw Lakes Trail, located near Anchorage, Alaska, is a moderate 7-mile hike that showcases the stunning beauty of the region's mountains and lakes. Beginning at Glen Alps parking area, the trail leads hikers through diverse terrain including alpine meadows with panoramic mountain views. The trail culminates at the picturesque Williwaw Lakes nestled below Mount Williwaw's sheer north face.
Lovely, but a bit difficult to navigate from this trailhead (for me; my brother-in-law and sister, though initially confused by the trailhead map, managed to direct us just fine). I sank up to my calves in mud at least once - 'boggy' is an inadequate description. There were a couple of areas where the 'bogginess' was surmounted by the park service with tiny boardwalks. Most of the trail was absolutely fine, even a bit dusty. Our group of 10 saw absolutely nobody else on this hike. We did it with 6 kids, who managed just fine. If I ever come back to Alaska? I'd like to mtb this. Edit: we drove into the trailhead Google Maps recommended, the one by Flat Top Mountain (which looked so unfun...am I the only person who enjoys rolling hills, gentle inclines, and unmuddied/undusty shoes?!)
Jeanmarie S — Google review
Great hike for all ages and skills. Some sections can get muddy but the trail is well established and maintained. You can go all the way to the lakes and beyond, up and over the mountains to go back, or hike portions of it to customize your trip.

Good: - quite a number of landscapes and features packed into a single trail - beautiful mountains, valleys, lakes, rocks, outcrops, trees... it's all here - easy hike based on the minimum elevation changes Cautions: - bring the sunscreen; there is very little shade - obviously, can be muddy in the Spring with snow melt - there were a few challenging areas with water standing and I had to figure out how to get around or go through; for the most part there was ways to get around - while easy, it's a long hike; about 7 hours for me hiking fast with a few snack breaks Based on a late May 2021 hike. Most snow had been melted and what remained was packed pretty well. Beautiful hike and highly recommended.

Long flat walk but the views of the lake when the sun hits them are breathtaking.

This is a long hike! It's not very difficult, but it takes about 6 hours there and back if you walk slow and steady. Incredibly beautiful with little streams along the entire trail. I brought my puppy with me and she loved it. However, about 2 hours in, the trail turned to mud and my shoes got soaked and dirty, so make sure you come prepared!

Stopped by the Ulu Factory next to our hotel and really enjoyed it. The staff were knowledgeable about the knives' history and craft, and you can watch them being made. The shop is a bit touristy beyond the knives, but it’s worth it for authentic Alaskan Ulus.

A very cool place to look through the windows and see the knives being made. Beautiful product in several grades and sizes. 5 in, 6 in, and 8 in knives and small medium and large choping "bowls" . Basic knives to hand carved bone handle knives. Plenty of other "Alaska Only" items for sale too. Easy to walk to from downtown (take "C" street to 1st street and look for the building).

The rustic and inviting ambiance sets the stage for an enjoyable night out or a dinner-and-movie date. The menu features delectable dishes, with hand-crafted pizzas being their specialty, made with fresh locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
Great and friendly service. Very attentive staff and knowledgeable of the menu. The food quality was fantastic! We got the chicken wings and southwest eggrolls for apps and the Salmon Poke bowl. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauces were addicting. I’m just bummed I live so far away from moose’s tooth. Definitely would go again when I come back to AK

We finally made it to Bear Tooth Theatrepub for breakfast, and wow—what an experience! I had the lemon blueberry pancakes and they were absolutely AMAZING—fluffy, full of flavor, and perfectly balanced between sweet and tart. Joe went for the biscuits and gravy, and they were just as delicious—hearty, savory, and packed with flavor. We both ordered coffee, and the staff went above and beyond by adding caramel syrup and whipped cream on top—a little extra touch that made it feel special. The service was warm, friendly, and fast, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Highly recommend this spot for a great breakfast (or brunch!) in Anchorage. We’ll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu!

I was pleasantly surprised how great the food was here. I'm visiting from Seattle and I thought it might be a little bit difficult to find great food in Anchorage because the price of food would be high. I had the pork pozole, the kale Caesar and a coconut flan. They were all great! And the service from Andrea was fantastic. The price was very reasonable

This is a very popular spot in Anchorage. They told us it was a 45 min wait Sunday night, so we went back on Monday. Very good food! I highly recommend the Mango Habanero Chicken Bowl and Blueberry Serrano Wings. Service was good.

It’s pretty good. Highly recommend if your visiting or have somebody visiting. The better food is on the theatrepub side but the fancy food is on the grill side. Had a burger, it was pretty good. There has definitely been a change in the past few years, as the overall vibe feels very different. Overall, it feels more cookie cutter and less of the “Alaskan experience” it was before. I would say it’s less friendly to locals and more of a normal restaurant. Theater side is still pretty good though. I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could.

Indian Valley Mine & Gifts is a historical site nestled in the Chugach Mountains, offering recreational gold panning and a rustic cabin with souvenirs. The mine played a significant role in the early settling of Turnagain Arm and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Founded in 1910, it has a unique association with load mining. Visitors can explore original claims and learn to pan for gold along Crow Creek for an additional fee.
We recently visited this gold mining attraction, and it was an absolute blast for the whole family! The experience was not only super fun but also highly educational—perfect for kids who love hands-on learning. The staff were incredibly friendly and engaging, making sure every child felt excited and involved. They did a fantastic job explaining the history of gold mining while keeping things light and entertaining. My kids loved panning for real gold and gems, and the thrill of finding "treasure" made the experience unforgettable. The setup was very kid-friendly, with safe, easy-to-use tools and plenty of shaded areas. There were also fun little surprises along the way, like hidden fossils and interesting facts about geology. It was amazing to see my children so enthusiastic about learning while having a great time. Overall, this gold mining adventure is a must-do for families! It’s the perfect mix of education, excitement, and hands-on fun. My kids haven’t stopped talking about it, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

This place has always looked interesting and my family and I finally stopped by after going to Girdwood for the day. We didn't do any panning for gold (this time) but the gift shop was great and had some authentic items. The owners were so kind, especially to my son. The woman owner told me she had even given birth in the cabin we were standing in! (After seeing my newborn). The ducks and chickens were great to see running around, and when the woman collected the eggs she let us all feel that the duck egg was still warm. Just felt like the Alaskan dream in there with sincere people running it. Will definitely be back as the kids get older and to take any guests we have.

Then, before you leave, make sure you stop in the gift shop and, after selecting everything you want to get, grab one of the “Car Payment Cookies!” We got the oatmeal raisin cookie and it was probably one of the best cookies I’ve ever had (and they go to a good cause). We didn’t do the gold panning, which I’m sure is fun, but what we did end up doing we really enjoyed.

We had a great time here. My dad and I stopped by while waiting for the bore tide and beluga whales to appear. The lady that owns and runs the mining site was especially friendly. She even shared some of her pressure cooked moose meat lunch with us. We got tiny little gemstones (including amethyst, garnet, jasper, and some pieces of copper) and some small flakes of gold. We paid for an experience and thats what we got! I highly recommend this place as a stop while you’re traveling on the Seward highway. 10/10 wouldn’t change a thing.

Williwaw Social is a vibrant, multilevel destination that truly embodies the spirit of Anchorage's entertainment scene. This lively hub features a casual American restaurant and an inviting rooftop bar, perfect for soaking up the sun while enjoying stunning views of Town Square. The menu, crafted by Midnight Sun Brewing Co., offers delightful twists on classic pub fare that stand out in the local dining landscape.
Always a great place to visit, variety of types of entertainment, all people are welcomed with open arms, no drama brewing. The City Boy Burger’s smashed burgers are top notch. Live entertainment is muah!

Williwaw was a fun gust of cold wind! The bartenders were super kind and so quick at their craft! I was shocked at how fast my drink was made. The security personnel were also really compassionate and empathetic towards the patrons. There’s four major areas to grab a drink, a big dance floor on the main floor, and a little dance floor on the second floor. Both dance floors had a DJ that were killing their set! We went around 22:00 and there were only a few people dancing but once the hoards of 5’9” claiming to be 6’0” soldiers in their standardized military cuts came in it became a more robust party. Again the security is REALLY kind and empathetic and you can tell they only want you to feel safe and have a good time. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if necessary!

This is a three story party bar, with the top floor a nice rooftop bar with a small gas FirePit ! The vibe is young 20-40 from what we experienced and had a Latin vibe on the top floor as they were gearing up for a live DJ. The music and vibe was not for the 50+ set! Service and drinks were good. Younger people would likely give this a 5 ! VictorB

Several levels bar in the heart of anchorage. Its conveniently is located to many cool spots to eat and visit. It’s hip and has a cool roof top. The drinks aren’t too bad. The live music was cool. The vibe was decent. The people seem cool. The bartenders are nice. It’s not a bad spot to visit.

Some places simply shock you with targeted, random hatred. Been to this place twice, and the atmosphere is hyper and overmodulated and they really get hooked up with great entertainment, so I give them that. Last night my husband went here for an afterparty after Sundown. Went to the restroom, came out, and was being told to leave by security. Both my husband and I were suddenly being looked at like we were criminals. My husband informed me he asked for waters and the bartender was suddenly VERY cold and said he was cut off. The security guard seemed confused why he was telling us to leave, and we didn't argue one bit, so he didn't bother taking us to the door because we were like "Don't gotta tell us twice!" I know that places like this can take their patron count rate for granted, and treat people poorly, at random. At first I was too afraid to leave a review, but I am seeing that my experience is not the only one. It IS targeted, and I am seeing that it's men that they tend to target. Not sure what that bartender's deal is, but she treated my husband in a way that really startled him, and it is hard to describe, but it makes a person feel like they committed a dirty crime when nothing at all happened. It's psychological, and I am glad people are speaking up about how randomly awful going to Williwaw can be. Don't worry, will never be back.
Alexandra S — Google review
My friends and I went for a rooftop social event but the event was cancelled due to cloudy weather. Our waitress was on the newer side and really seemed to struggle. The food took quite a while to come out and our order was wrong when it did eventually come. We tried to go back to this restaurant for a different evening event and were turned away early as they were trying to close things down. We gave this place two tries and both times were left disappointed!
Kayla F — Google review
Terrible, unskilled, lame We ordered 3 Yeager bombs and the shots were served in full size plastic cups. Not only was this a terrible look as a bartender is should have been embarrassing. I’ve had a lot of shots in my day and there was absolutely zero chance the Yeager at the bottom of these cups would even filled an actual shot glass.

Nestled in the heart of downtown, the Alaska Law Enforcement Museum is a charming tribute to the state's policing history. This unique museum showcases an impressive collection of historical law enforcement artifacts, including vintage uniforms and a stunningly restored 1952 Hudson Hornet patrol car. Visitors can explore various exhibits featuring antique radios, shackles, and even wire-tapping equipment that highlight the evolution of crime-fighting in Alaska's rugged terrain.
Lots packed into a small store front including a vehicle. It's especially a five star if you're into the badge designs, There is a whole room full of badges - from all over the country. A display of Alaskan LE history. Numerous guns and other weapons on display. Highly recommend.

This place is interesting and it’s good use of a couple hours. My whole family enjoyed it
Brian P — Google review
This is a small place so there isn't that much to see, but it's super interesting. Obviously, there's a lot of law-related 🚓 exhibits, but there are some other goodies as well. The director was super nice and let us in even though the museum was closed on the day we visited. He also gave us a lot of advice for our Alaska 🗻 trip. This place is well worth a visit!!
Vikram B — Google review
Wow, this museum was full of so much interesting stuff right back to the beginnings of law enforcement in Alaska. What those guys had to go through back in the day wearing those heavy wool uniforms and trekking through the snow in wild weather conditions. I took the time to watch the documentary, read about all of the exhibits and look over every detail. I got stuck in the Patch Room for so long because they have so many to look at from every Police Unit. Bought a couple of excellent quality shirts and a replica Alaska State Trooper badge too because of the brown bear emblem. The volunteer that day was super nice and very knowledgable. A must visit stop on your list if you are downtown Anchorage.
Sam P — Google review
A nice little stop if you have a bit of time to kill. The price is definitely reasonable, with entrance only being $5. I will say I think the museum could benefit from potentially having a bit more flow. However, it was interesting to see the history of law enforcement for an area with such severe climates and a relatively recent but rich history. Sadly when I was there nothing was playing in the movie room. Do not think this is a must if in Anchorage for a short amount of time but if someone wanted to stop by it's not bad.

The Alaska Museum of Science and Nature in Anchorage offers an exciting exploration of Alaska's natural history, featuring dinosaur fossils and interactive displays for children. The museum is a flagship destination for natural history enthusiasts, with captivating exhibits including a full-sized pterosaur replica, an extensive collection of rocks and fossils, and a massive beluga whale skeleton.
Me and my wife went there on our honeymoon, and we are big museum buffs. I can say without a doubt, that this is one of the best Paleontology Museums we've ever been too, and we live near the DC Smithsonian. This museum is very informative, and breaks down the information in a very digestive way. Has a great balance of interactive, and non interactive exhibits. It also had a lot of things I've only ever heard about, and seeing them first and was spectacular. The host at the front desk was also very sweet and kind!

Nice science center and fun for the kids. The staff here are friendly and very helpful. My family and I came here on a field trip and were given scavenger hunts to complete for a smell prize. The kids loved it. Highly recommend taking the family here for a visit. The only downside is it’s small, but worth the trip.
Michael — Google review
I visited this museum back in January. It was a really cool collection. I haven't been to many museums that are quite so interactive. I enjoyed how many of the exhibits were specifically relevant to Alaska and its history while also relating to wider natural history. It's a relatively small museum but is 100% worth the stop! The care of the people who curate the collection is evident.

Took my 3yr old here, who is learning about dinosaurs. He loved the younger scavenger hunt and treasure! They packed allot into a small space. Even know it seems small we weirdly spent 2 hours here. They have dig pits and shelves of toys that are either creative play or museum themed. Wonderful use of time. Will come again.

A very fun museum! Expect to spend about an hour or two here depending on your interest. Great for the littles. Lots of bones / fossils/ replicas and a cute little gift shop. An area for younger kids to sit and play. A small museum with easy parking and a restroom.

Small but dense. Very few original fossils, but many excellent recreations/castings. Very good taxidermy. A little disorganized, and signage was often poor and hard to read, but worth the price of admission, especially for younger kids who will enjoy the density of content.

Alaska ATV Adventures offers an exhilarating experience for families and adventurers alike, inviting you to embark on guided four-wheel tours through the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska. Whether you're looking for a quick three-hour jaunt or a full-day exploration, these tours allow you to immerse yourself in the stunning scenery, including majestic mountains, tranquil lakes, and diverse wildlife.
We took this tour in late June 2024. It ranked very high on our long list of Alaskan Adventures. I think Bob was our tour guide. Accept the offered handkerchief to cover your nose and mouth from dust and be prepared to be covered in dust and I imagine mud if it’s raining. So worth it! The entire trail was beautiful. We were a group of 5, mostly beginners. The pace was quick, and while much of it was exhilarating but not scary, there was a fair bit of adrenaline involved. The short hike to the waterfall was nice, and although we didn’t see wildlife beyond birds, it was still a really beautiful adventure start to finish. We loved crashing through the stream bed and we only saw a few people on the entire trail, so we felt like the forest was ours. I highly recommend this adventure. We came from Anchorage and stopped at the wildlife conservation center before our tour in the afternoon. It was a very reasonable day trip.
Wendy W — Google review
This was an amazing half day excursion! Bob is the ultimate guide. It was a challenging, fun, scenic, exhilarating, wet and DIRTY tour of of the Chugach National Forest. Midway we went on a great hike and Bob knew where all the great photo op spots were (as an added bonus, he’s a great photographer and got some memorable shots of us with our own cameras). We were were glad we did the half day as it provided a ton of backwoods fun and gave us time to do something different in the afternoon! Thanks Bob!

Absolute 10/10 must do if you’re in the Anchorage area!! Bob was an excellent tour guide we had an amazing experience. Change of clothes is a good idea to bring and a GoPro if you have one. Even with minimal to no ATV experience, this is still an excellent experience and well worth it. We were fortunate enough to see a brown bear fishing for salmon in a river at the end of the tour. Bob was always looking out for wildlife and has years of experience on these trails. Some places ask you to leave a review but not here, I’m just writing this so more people can have a great experience with this company on this tour. Thanks again Bob!

Had an AMAZING tour this past weekend. Kris was the best tour guide, super knowledgeable about the area and very personable. Made sure everyone felt comfortable on the ATV before heading out and took us on some amazing trails with the most beautiful views. I seriously think this is the best and most authentic alaska ATV tour out there. Made unforgettable memories on this trip. I absolutely loved every second of it. Thank yall so much for the experience!!!

Ended up just being the two of us - Bob guiding and me following. Was good, flexible and fun. If I had one request it would be to go up higher in elevation…not sure if the ATV trails do but if so would be nice. Owner on the phone and txt was very pleasant and responsive and git me in last minute as I decided getting out in the dirt way better than spa day at Alyeska. My guide Bob was very cordial and also knowledgeable, with a good eye for spotting wildlife. Definitely recommend Alaska ATV Adventures. Thanks.

A great place to hold an event. The Town Square Park is host to many events throughout the year. New Years fireworks and summer concerts are the two events that seem to draw a large crowd. Summertime the Town Square Park is very colorful with numerous variations of flowers. Wintertime the Town Square Park is sparkly with LED lights in the trees. The atmosphere was great, with couches and chairs everywhere and plenty of seating and outlets. Definitely recommend!! Also their ice cubes were beautiful lol.

Espresso drinker? Steamdot has the best espresso in Alaska due to the proper use of the Slayer Espresso Machine. A Metro vibe and a focus on brighter coffees define the experience. Every sip, of espresso, showcases the vibrant aspects of their coffee. Pared with a seltzer to cleanse the palate gives a grand espresso experience. The cafes machine allows a long pre infusion phase of the extraction process allowing coffee to be ground finer thereby increasing extraction yields. Single Origin coffee is roasted to showcase the unique origin character of each coffee. A focus on quality is evident with most bags, depending on the sub species, containing small dense high altitude beans. I have yet to buy a bag that has roasting defects. Atmosphere is classy and tucked shirt. Large open ceilings with a large use of metal accents give the air of a downtown metropolitan cafe. The feeling is compounded by the regulars who are often professionals in meetings. While espresso and beans shine, milk drinks suffer from lower quality syrups offered compared to the competition. If Steamdot were to switch to only in-house production or a higher quality brand a fifth star would not be far behind.

Finally, a coffee shop that does not have a boring tea menu! I was so impressed they had 10 different teas with various varieties, and then they steeped it with a timer. I saw incredible artwork that the Reece were doing with local mochas and café drinks. It was such a fun experience going here. They actually have a Chemex and a coffee that you can get that’s made with a Chemex set up, I was impressed by that. This is a great place to take friends to talk. The only negative aspect that I could find with this location is that I couldn’t find a power source easily in a wall if you are working on your laptop.

One of the best shops I've been to in a long time. Walked in and admired the art on the walls and the infographic on the wall that was hand painted referencing the different brew methods. Ordered a cortado and was asked if it was for here or to go, I replied for here, and was met with a "bless you." That speaks volumes to me. Tried their espresso of the day with the cortado, top notch. They serve it with the board and a club soda. My wife got a mocha which they use a house made sauce and he added in some cinnamon for her. Both drinks were great. I highly highly reccomend this spot. Prices were unbelievable too. We scored a cortado and a mocha for $9. Hope they are doing well and continue the mission!

Great military museum in Anchorage. We got a wonderful tour from Ted. We were able to see many rare artifacts, especially from the Aleutian campaign, but including all sorts of interesting items from the other major wars of the 20th century as well. I am aware of no other museum that has so much (or frankly, any) battlefield hardware from Attu and Kiska if that's a topic of interest. Traces the entire history of Alaska's involvement in World War I, II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, and post-Cold War eras. Well worth a visit!

The park features a botanical garden showcasing local flora and offers a chance to experience the wildness of Alaska within city limits. The heavily forested trails provide an opportunity to explore rolling terrain and discover new self-contained worlds at every turn. Despite its wild appearance, parts of the park were developed during World War II near Campbell Creek.

Good day for bears 5/22! Saw a mama and 3 adorable cubs along Campbell Airstrip road, then a single bear at the Airstrip trailhead. All black bears. Far North Bicentennial Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States, covering more than 3,000 acres of forests, streams, and open meadows on the northern edge of Anchorage. It offers a remarkable escape into nature while remaining conveniently close to the city, making it ideal for hikers, cyclists, birdwatchers, and photographers. The park features an extensive network of trails that meander through spruce and birch forests, alongside creeks and small lakes. These trails provide excellent opportunities for capturing Alaska’s seasonal beauty — from snow-dusted landscapes in winter to vibrant wildflowers and lush greenery in summer, and the warm, golden hues of autumn. Wildlife is abundant and photogenic: moose, foxes, and a variety of birds can often be observed along the trails, while the quiet ponds and streams offer reflections perfect for landscape photography. Early mornings or late afternoons bring soft light filtering through the trees, creating a serene and atmospheric setting. Far North Bicentennial Park combines accessibility, wilderness, and photogenic landscapes, making it a beloved destination for Anchorage residents and visitors alike who wish to experience the natural beauty of Alaska close to the city.

There's a nice stroll into the town of hoonah and some scenic totems as well as a small Harbour. If you're wondering about the gondola, it's more than the little glide above the green. Take the red, it goes straight up. Some say it's better than the zip liner.

One of my favorite places to just get off the beaten trail and pretend like im in the real bush. Its bit littered for my liking, and I know there is at least one questionable hobo, who you can hear the angry screams of if you listen closely enough, but hey, it's still a city after all, none the less I love this place and head out for it every free day I have.
Colin W — Google review
Very fun, started out confused with the trails and trying to stay off the ski only paths. Once I figured out the map, there were so many trail's to take. You can make your hike a short one or go all day. Cool variety of trails, nice upkeep and great pedestrian environment.

We have had the privilege to watch our daughter play baseball here for the last four years. Starting with t-ball. We love the baseball fields. They are always clean, very well kept grass, base lines, bases, bleachers, everything. There is a great group of people behind the scenes making sure this place continues to grow and succeed. I love the feeling of safety it brings over me. There is one way in and everyone knows everyone. It’s easy to let your kid be a kid here , and I appreciate that more than anything.

Alaska Wild Berry Products, located at 5225 Juneau St., is a must-visit destination offering an extensive selection of tourist T-shirts, souvenir items, candies, jams, salmon, and sausage gift packs. The store boasts the world's largest chocolate fountain as one of its main attractions. Visitors can also find unique Alaskan fashion items at Once in a Blue Moose, CAKE, Bottom's Boutique and Circular Boutique nearby.
If you find yourself in Alaska, this place is a MUST STOP!! Great people with a fun, camera friendly environment. Their chocolates are to die for! Lots of tourist type trinkets and baubles. Good selection of hoodies and tshirts. Did I mention the gourmet chocolates?! So many different kind of chocolates, your head will swim! Speaking of swimming… they have what is believed to be the largest chocolate fountain in the world!! It holds over 3,400 pounds of liquid chocolate!! Go check it out and try some samples.

This shop is home to the "World's Largest Chocolate Waterfall"—a 20-foot-tall fountain with 3,000+ pounds of chocolate flowing down copper kettles. The store is exceptional, with sweets that are second to none. We had the pleasure of meeting the Manager (gem of a guy), who shared insights into their unique, Alaska-only chocolates. The souvenirs are distinctive, with a few touristy items mixed in. A fun, delicious stop that's definitely worth a visit while in Anchorage.

Want to make it clear this review is about the stand alone store in anchorage! The fountain wasn’t on when we went so I was a little disappointed but we had incredible customer service, got to taste some chocolates before buying, and no one complaining about us being there - unlike the store in the mall. Great chocolate, souvenirs, jams, I even bought a honey mustard I cannot wait to try!

The Best Gift Shop in Anchorage greets you outside with their wheelchair ramps, flowers, benches and relaxing environment. Walk inside to meet the bears and other wild animals aka stuffed ones. They have deluxe furry hats, an array of socks, hats, warm PJs, Tshirts, jackets and attire for babies and children. Check out the candy dept too and try a sample of a delectible treat. Or watch them make it in the kitchen.
Rebecca C — Google review
Definitely a bucket list place!!! The chocolate fountain is super cool! The bears are life size and great for pictures. The chocolate.....GET SOME!!!! DELICIOUS!!!
KaRee C — Google review
Had the best chocolate in my life here and I been to Switzerland and Belgium. So many options for local treats - jerky, jams, snacks and sweets. Cant wait to be back in Anchorage to grab more truffles. The customer service was great too

Their Dubai Chocolate Bars ($35) & Dubai Strawberry Bowls ($20) were amazing. The chocolate bars are not worth $35, but were delicious. It's definitely worth the experience.

A nice shop with lots of chocolates and souvenirs. Tried a sample of some chocolates and unfortunately they weren’t very good. Also seemed rather overpriced.

Nestled just south of Anchorage, the Potter Marsh Wildlife Viewing Boardwalk is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers alike. This 1,550-foot elevated walkway meanders through a stunning salt marsh that serves as a vibrant habitat for over 130 bird species, including majestic bald eagles. As you stroll along the boardwalk, keep your eyes peeled for moose and even bears roaming nearby.
Absolutely beautiful! Huge Boardwalk that extends out into Potter's Marsh and a great walk. You may see a bald eagle and other types of birds and even moose. There is a drainage area from the Cook Inlet into the marsh where you may see salmon swimming. Great views of the Chugach mountains. The boardwalk extends in multiple directions and has informational signs on wildlife. Plan at least an hour to walk the entire Boardwalk Wheelchair accessible.
Peter E — Google review
Neat place to walk the boardwalk and look at the wildlife. Elevated wooden boardwalk weaves above the marsh area with creeks, wildlife, birds, and more flourishing. Gorgeous pictures on our late September visit. Loved the information plaques they had around! You can walk through whole thing at a chill pace in less than 1.5 hours.
Amy C — Google review
Potter Marsh is an easy stop just outside Anchorage—and totally worth it. The boardwalk gives you a fantastic panoramic view of the marsh with the bay and mountains in the background. Classic Alaska. While we were there, we spotted a whole family of moose—dad was hanging near the road as we left the parking lot, and mom and baby were walking through a clearing on the other side. A perfect blend of peaceful scenery and real wildlife action. If you’re headed south from Anchorage, make time for this one.
Coby H — Google review
Lots of spider webs/cob webs everywhere but nice scenery and board walk. There are stationary binoculars you don’t have to pay to use, and you can look really close at the ducks and local birds
Emma W — Google review
It's well worth the drive, especially for the great views. I got lots of great pictures while I was here. The boardwalk is fun for sure. There's also easy access to the highway, which is good.
Ben H — Google review
Beautiful area near Anchorage where you can view wildlife. We only saw birds on the day we went but it was mid-day and larger animals had likely retreated back to the woods. The boardwalk let you walk above the marsh and we saw geese, eagles and their nests, a and other various species. Earlier in the day mooseand bear had been listed as having been seen but we were not that fortunate. Definitely worth a visit when in Alaska but go early.
David C — Google review
Easy board walk with beautiful views and a variety of wildlife and nature. You never know what you will find. Today i saw Sandhill cranes, salmon, and a juvenile bald eagle sweeping the field and flying right over us.
Cassandra B — Google review
An easy, accessible way to engage nature. 1 mile all in. Just no there isn't much shade or wind block so plan accordingly. It's beautiful.

Rust's Flying Service offers a variety of sightseeing tours around Alaska including flights over Denali National Park and Mount McKinley. The company also offers fly-in salmon fishing trips, which take guests to various wildlife viewing areas as well as fishing lodges.
Enjoyed our flightseeing tour over Prince William Sound. Our pilot, Jim, was very knowledgeable and shared interesting facts about the area during our flight. Midway into the trip, we landed in a cove for a short break to stretch our legs and take some photos. We saw a bear, goats and sea otters during our flight. Highly recommend Rust's for a great experience.

Rust's flying service. What a fantastic experience! Our pilot, Mike, took us on a trip to see Denali. The views were just amazing. Halfway through, we landed on a lake and were able to get out, take pictures, and look around. Anyone visiting Anchorage, Alaska, we highly recommend you take the time for a float plane trip with Rust’s. Thanks, Mike; you were great!

Wow! What an unforgettable, incredible experience: exploring Alaska by sea plane with Rust’s Flying Service is a must. From the welcoming to the return transfer and the journey inbetween, I can’t sing this team’s praises enough. Suzanne and her crew made everyone feel comfortable, the planes are meticulously kept, the pilots well trained and seeing this magical place from above is yes costly, but also priceless. Highly recommend seeing Denali from way up high and splurging on bear watching at Lake Clark.

The Glacier & Wildlife tour was a fantastic experience! The staff was warm and welcoming, showing us on the map where we would be flying made sure we felt taken care of. Our pilot, Drew was knowledgeable and provided us with commentary, but also let us just soak in the incredible beauty. The vast landscapes coupled with clear skies and expert flying made for a spectacular outing on a gorgeous fall day!
Ginger G — Google review
Wow, what an experience! From start to finish, Rust's Flying Service made my bear viewing tour in Lake Clark National Park unforgettable. The team was incredibly professional, friendly, and knowledgeable—making me feel completely at ease, even though we were flying into the heart of bear country. The flight itself was breathtaking. The scenic views of the Alaskan wilderness were out of this world, and our pilot Scott made sure we had a great view of everything. We spotted several bears up close, which was nothing short of amazing! It was the perfect mix of adventure and safety. The tour is very small group. We had chance to see bear flighting, catching and eating salmon, peeing and pooping, and mating etc in a very close distance. The lunch is fresh caught salmon, so delicious. They also provided excellent pick-up and drop-off service, making the whole experience seamless. I didn’t have to worry about anything—just sit back and enjoy the ride. The team went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had the best time possible. This is, without a doubt, one of the best tours I’ve ever been on (thanks for Emma’s recommendation and 6 out of 5 stars customer service). If you're looking for a top-notch Alaskan adventure with some incredible bear sightings, look no further than Rust's Flying Service. Highly recommend! 11 out of 10!

Alaska Rail Vacations made our reservation at Rust's for some sightseeing and bear watching. We were pleased on both accounts. Rust's staff picked us up at our hotel in a nice van. The flight was great and pilot Dan, also a comedian in training, made the flight interesting. He not only explained the volconos and mountains we were flying around but would turn to show both sides of the plane the sights. He pointed out Baluga whales, moose, bear and seals during our flight to Bear Mountain Lodge. This made our trip! Hats off to the staff at Rust's!!🍻
Bill F — Google review
Flew with them to Redoubt Bay Lodge, pilot was friendly and knowledgeable. Explained throughout the flight time. Spotted Moose,Swans on the way.explained about oil and power plants and commercial fishing center enroute. Went during low tide ad didn’t get to spot Belugas. Return trip for quite after long day. Over all staff are friendly and amazing. However the Redoubt Bay bear viewing itself was not as I expected, these day tours cost close to 1200/person and surprised that they charged $1000 or more for infant who is on our lap and didn’t take seat and weighing 19lbs. Bear viewing really depends but they know there is not lot of fish and bears are not as active as they are. Having this info would help. Paying so much only to get luck to see few bears roaming around wouldn’t worth $4700 or more of 3 adults and infant. My five star is for staff, flight services and staff at lodge. They made experience a lot better but may not worth the money.
Rahul G — Google review
Excellent! The day we were supposed to go see bears there was a tsunami warning, and they called immediately to discuss our options. We ended up doing a tour of Denali, and were refunded the difference without any issues. The Denali tour was great! The pilots are very experienced, knowledgeable, and safe. All around an excellent experience. Looking forward to coming back and seeing the bears!
