Leila Lily's is a sophisticated restaurant and bar located at Grey Street, known for its elegant and opulent ambiance. The venue offers three distinct areas including a bar, restaurant, and nightclub all in one place. The interior is adorned with glittering chandeliers, floral garlands, and greenery creating a picturesque setting perfect for Instagram-worthy moments.
Came here after theatre for restaurant week where 2 courses were £15. We had signed up with them so also got a free gin cocktail and £5 off so well chuffed! Place isn't huge but cosy with boothes aswell as seating in the centre. He had the crispy spiced beef then chicken gyros and I chose salmon rosti then sea bass and bean cassoulet. All very tasty and the gyros especially was a very good size 🐖 . Service was excellent and we will definitely come again

I visited here for the first time to enjoy an afternoon tea as a treat for my Mum to celebrate her retirement. On arrival, we received a lovely welcome and enjoyed a coffee before being seated for our afternoon tea. There is a bar area for enjoying a drink and restaurant area where we had our afternoon tea. All the staff we encountered during our visit were lovely - special mention to Brooke and Chelsea who took amazing care of us! And thank you for taking great photos of my mum and I during our visit. The afternoon tea itself was amazing. Beautifully presented and tasted great! It is soooo deceiving - we were both absolutely stuffed by the end of it all! Loved every part - so compliments to the chef for putting it altogether. The little ham hock cake was our favourite! It is also the first restaurant I have visited in a long time whereby there isn’t a service charge added to the bill! So hopefully staff still receive well deserved tips from visitors. Thank you for making our celebration an extra special one - we had a fabulous time and will highly recommend to others.

Just enjoyed lunch for friends birthdays, service was great, our waitress was lovely and welcoming, had 2 courses for £20 and they were both delicious, the cocktails were very yummy too, will definitely be back to try their afternoon tea.

Great bar - restaurant in town centre. Food is always tasty. Do a lovely Sunday dinner. Cocktails are nice too! (2for£15)Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Duck sprig rolls starter was really good. Was presented really well! My 10oz Rump Steak was cooked to perfection! Service was fantastic all round. 50% off in January really made it that little bit better than it already was. Thanks guys
Mohamad L — Google review
Visited for cocktails, was not disappointed. Lovely choice and some funky designs. If you buy off the two for £12 menu then it's not too expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely
Heather C — Google review
I can't believe I've not been in here before. What a place. The food is top notch at a great price and the flavours were amazing. It was difficult to choose a cocktail as there were so many! The young lady who served us was very polite, helpful and never stopped - what a hard worker. We also loved the decoration in the restaurant and downstairs with plenty of Instagramable places to take photos. Thanks to all the staff. I'll be back and will recommend.

Visited for restaurant week, a bit apprehensive reading recent reviews about slow service, but we certainly weren't disappointed 😀 Lovely pretty decor, fantastic cocktails, food was delicious and beautifully presented. There was plenty time in between courses, but not too long of a wait, didn't feel rushed. Staff were helpful too.

Loved this pub. Really old building absolutely full of character. Excellent beer selection and a ridiculous number of ciders available. Very friendly and helpful bar man. Loads of character and a great place to have a few afternoon beers. Will definitely be back here soon.

What a cracker of a pub. Really old building with tonnes of character. Very friendly and chatty bar man who told us about the building (including the ghost). Great beer choice available too. Loved this place, will definitely be coming back.

Very friendly pub. Often working in cooperation with other pubs in the Railway Quarter and hosting joint weekend music and food festivals. Staff very friendly and helpful. The pub regularly holds music events.....some are ticketed some are pay as you feel. The pub regularly hosts local groups, too. All in all a very friendly pub, in a friendly area of Gateshead The Railway Quarter..oops I forgot to say (how silly of me), the beer is varied and knowledge of the product is very good. Be there or be.... square? No sorry that you didn't make a good choice !

Found this pub while looking for real ciders in Newcastle, glad I found it. They had 5 flat ciders on, some I’ve never had before. Unique building lots to look at, will be back again when in Toon.

The menu features innovative dishes like pies and fish and chips, as well as delightful sharing boards. Monday afternoon very quiet only a few other customers at noon which was quite nice. The bar and restaurant look lovely with lots of natural light and good use of internal planting and furnishings. Staff were very attentive and professional, cannot fault at all. Food was served in good time and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely eat here again!

A really enjoyable visit to The Botanist which is such a fun and funky place. A stunning glass dome with a huge tree in the middle of the bar and very cool decor throughout. James behind the bar made the best cocktails we have tasted for a long time and Jessie in the restaurant was a brilliant waitress. Will definitely return soon and would highly recommend it.
Rupert C — Google review
The staff were SO nice and the setting is quite dreamy. The menu looked delicious too, the only reason I give it 4* for food is because the fries were a bit too salty for my taste. I will definitely come back if I ever come back to Newcastle 🎉
Ina P — Google review
Had an amazing Brunch here with my Mom. The atmosphere was great with all the plants and light and decor, food delicious with good portion sizes, and our waitress Emily was friendly and welcoming! Would definitely recommend it!

Sooooo beautiful inside! I couldn't stop looking around. The drinks and food were also great and creative. Staff was friendly and prices reasonable. Definitely recommend going here! (Would go here so often if I would've lived in Newcastle)
Anna K — Google review
I’ve visited many times before and had a great experience, but yesterday was so appalling I believe the kitchen should be closed until they can sort out the immense amount of issues they clearly have as a restaurant. As a table of 6 we waited over half an hour for the food order to be taken, when we asked that all food come together (two starters, six mains). The starters arrived and 45mins later no mains. We spoke to a waitress to ask - 15 mins later still no one came to our table. After having to get up and ask to see the manager, she came and in her defence we could not fault her - there were clearly operational issues and she dealt with the situation well. However, when the food finally came - mixture of Sunday roasts and hanging kebabs - it was clear there was a fundamental issue. Chicken was dry and overcooked, roast potatoes swimming in oil, veg raw but burnt (how can you even do that?!) and the vegetarian gravy was beyond disgusting. Long story short, we paid for our drinks and not the food, however in total we wasted almost three hours of our Sunday evening which was meant to be a delightful start to our holiday with friends and our daughters. I truly believe the kitchen needs to close until they can cook food suitable to eat and train their new staff effectively. All in all a terrible experience and the pressure the manager is under is not appropriate. I’d highly recommend giving it a miss until they have turned themselves around.
Laura S — Google review
If you’re looking for a instagramable place, this is it. I was there today with a colleague. Loved the atmosphere. So much varieties of drinks. Compared to the ambience, the prices of the drinks are cheap. Being a Saturday evening it wasn’t very difficult to find a place to sit. But recommend to book a table prior of it’s a weekend. Loved the drinks. Will definitely visit again.

Had bottomless brunch before a show at the theatre, drinks wise it is well worth the money but does have a limited menu, food was nice just very small and again limited menu, service was really good and nice, stunning location and interior as my only photo of the tree in the middle. Definitely go for the cocktails.

Definitely the best Wetherspoon I've ever been! Sitting outside by the river on a sunny day.. taking in the view of the magnificent High Level Bridge a stunning piece of engineering over a hundred years old.. with a well-chilled pint in hand is just somehow uplifting..

Really friendly and helpful staff here. I managed to find a table on a Saturday night and use the app to order. Drinks were taking over 15 minutes to come out, which is fairly understandable for how busy they were. They got my first drink wrong, but I couldn't be bothered making an issue out of it as it was luckily something I don't normally mind drinking. Kept it quiet and ordered again to get the right one second time round.
Dal — Google review
I have been here a couple of times. As Don McLean might sing; A long, long time ago. Probably 30+ years. Alic surprised how busy it is on an early Tuesday evening. Had to sit in the courtyard as all tables gone inside. Bit chilly after an August storm. Boothroyd ordered a strong Dartmoor brewery 4.8% Jail Ale, all the way from Devon. £1.99! .. less 50p with a CAMRA voucher.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Really poor The staff are disinterested, and the one in the photo made us more as he wanted to store things where we were sitting. "Where should we move to"? "I dont know, anywhere..." Flat and warm Lager that you can't get changed as there are no staff with manners to talk to. Filthy tables ! I dont like it here....
G — Google review
A fabulous setting next to the Tyne with views of its famous bridges.Currently being renovated but very welcoming and a typical Spoons offering great value for money on food and beverage.Small but plenty of outside seating Very friendly service .It's popularity and location means it's very busy on weekends, especially nights, but we'll worth the downhill walk from the city centre
K M — Google review
I work close by and have popped in for food many times over the years, today we ordered chips and a burger, the same we have ordered in the past. The Burger was over done and burnt with an extremely small portion of chips, in the past they included onion rings and coleslaw - I asked the waiter where’s the rest of the chips to be told we have reduced our portion sizes but we still use the large plates!!! We have decided we won’t be going back, there’s plenty of other places with better value!!

The Angel of the North is a monumental steel sculpture located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Designed by artist Antony Gormley, this iconic piece of public art has become a symbol of northern England since its unveiling in 1998. Standing at 20 meters tall with a wingspan of 54 meters, the Angel dominates the landscape near the A1 highway.
I didn't know what to expect from this iconic piece of art, it was amazing! It's brutality of angular design against the soft tranquility of nature was profound. There was a peace that surrounded the tall, striking edifice standing so high above the land, it was hard not to just stand and stare, enjoying the tranquility. Plenty of parking and just a short walk, make the effort to stand in awe at this modern wonder
Tony P — Google review
An iconic statue in the UK which is quite nice to look at close, rather than just from the A1 as you travel past. It was good to enjoy a walk around it with the family and take in its share size. There is a small car park at the site which if full, a space will come up shortly as there are a lot of people coming and going all the time. I didn't see any toilets. Well worth a stop have an ice cream or coffee from the businesses there and take in the sight.
Adam B — Google review
I really enjoyed seeing this. The engineering that went into fabricating something this big I find fascinating. It's literally on a mound on It's own and you can see the top of it as you come off the motorway. The information board is worth a read. The person that wrote it put some good facts. There is a car park right next to it which is free and we had no struggles parking. If you enjoy art and big sculptures this is definitely worth a visit.
Karl V — Google review
Angel of the North – A Monumental Pause Worth Taking Standing sentinel over Gateshead, the Angel of the North is more than just a sculpture—it’s a moment of stillness in motion. Towering at 20 meters high with a wingspan that rivals a jumbo jet, this rust-hued giant commands attention from the A1, yet invites quiet reflection up close. I visited on a crisp morning, and despite its proximity to the motorway, the site felt surprisingly serene. The free parking and open-access grounds make it an easy detour, whether you’re en route to Durham or exploring the North East. There’s a gentle slope leading to the statue, and a small memorial garden tucked below—unexpected and deeply moving, with handwritten notes that hint at personal pilgrimages and quiet grief. The Angel itself is arresting. Stark, industrial, and oddly graceful, it evokes both strength and vulnerability. Designed by Antony Gormley, it’s meant to embody transition and human connection—and it does, especially when viewed against the shifting skies. • Location: Just off the A167, near Gateshead. • Cost: Completely free, including parking. • Best Time to Visit: Early morning or golden hour for dramatic light and fewer crowds. • Extras: Often an ice cream van on site, and plenty of space for a picnic. Whether you’re a fan of modern art or simply seeking a pause in your journey, the Angel of the North offers a rare blend of accessibility and emotional depth. It’s not just a landmark—it’s a quiet witness to countless stories.
Aseem S — Google review
Erected in remembrance of the miners in the North East. Located just off the A1M just south of Newcastle. Parking available, plenty for disabled. Nice and peaceful, a few visitors and dog walkers about. Managed to fly my drone (see videos attached) worth a visit if in the area.
Digital V — Google review
We've passed this sculpture a lot over the years and always been in 2 minds if we like it or not. So we took a quick pit stop to get a closer look. Worth a visit if you've got 10 minutes to kill. Car parking is free!

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a modern and iconic structure that spans the River Tyne, providing separate pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineered by Gifford, it stands out among the distinguished bridges in the area. Connecting Gateshead with Newcastle via Gateshead Quays and Newcastle's Quayside, this bridge not only serves as a functional crossing but also attracts visitors from around the world due to its elegant design and engineering marvel.
As a piece of architecture, this bridge is pleasing to the eye on many forms. It's presence is bold and demanding, you just have to look at it and figure out what it looks like without even moving. At night it is lit up to offer a beautiful spectrum against the blacked out background of the Tyne river. It also offers a beautiful view from a neighbouring Hotel we have stayed at several times. It was always a great little walk to wake up in the morning before diving back into the warm hotel for breakfast
Chris C — Google review
Gateshead Millennium Bridge – Engineering with Soul The Gateshead Millennium Bridge isn’t just a crossing—it’s a performance. Linking Newcastle’s Quayside with Gateshead’s cultural quarter, this sleek, tilting arc is a marvel of modern design and quiet drama. I visited on a breezy evening, just in time to watch the bridge tilt—a slow, graceful motion that earned it the nickname “Blinking Eye.” It’s the world’s first and only tilting bridge, and when it moves, it feels like the river itself is taking a breath. The structure is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, making it a peaceful vantage point to take in the Tyne’s historic skyline. Nearby, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and Sage Gateshead add cultural weight to the experience, while the Quayside buzzes with cafés and market stalls. Whether you’re drawn by its engineering or its elegance, the Millennium Bridge offers a moment of quiet connection—between cities, between people, and between past and future.
Aseem S — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the North East. It’s not just a bridge, it’s a piece of art and engineering brilliance. The tilting design is incredible to see in action, and at night the lighting makes it even more spectacular. Great place for a walk, cycling, or just enjoying the Quayside views. Definitely a must-visit in Newcastle and Gateshead!
Waleed A — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Newcastle–Gateshead. Its unique tilting design makes it one of the most impressive bridges I’ve ever visited, both as a piece of engineering and as a landmark. Walking across gives you great views of the Quayside, and at night the bridge lights up beautifully, creating a magical atmosphere. It’s also right by plenty of pubs, restaurants, and attractions, so it’s perfect to include as part of an evening stroll. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, it’s an iconic spot that captures the energy and character of Newcastle. Highly recommended, especially at sunset or after dark when the reflections on the water are incredible.
U B — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a beautiful and absolutely stunning arched bridge — its unique tilting design and illuminated reflections make it a must-see landmark in Newcastle–Gateshead. Walking across offers fantastic Quayside views, and nearby restaurants, it’s perfect for an evening stroll. Highly recommended, especially at sunset or after dark.
Majid H — Google review
Every time I cross this bridge to visit the Baltic I marvel at the amazing views it offers. It is visually very beautiful from afar and the practical elements of the design allows for both pedestrians and cyclists to cross in their own safe space. In the past I have taken some lovely photos of the bridge at twilight; sadly on my most recent visit it was too cold and blustery to hang around until the light started to fade.
Anne S — Google review
Haven't seen it move, but it would have been an interesting observation as this idea is unique
Eugen F — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a stunning example of modern engineering and design, linking Gateshead and Newcastle over the River Tyne. Its unique tilting mechanism, resembling a “blinking eye,” is both functional and mesmerizing to watch in action. The sleek, arched structure is particularly beautiful when illuminated at night, casting reflections on the water. Offering scenic views of the river and surrounding landmarks, it’s a favorite spot for photographers and visitors alike. While weather and timing for the tilt might affect the experience, the bridge remains a must-see icon of innovation and elegance.

Harry's Bar Newcastle is a lively American-style venue located on Grey Street, opposite the Theatre Royal and just seconds from Monument Metro stop. It's a popular spot for an older crowd and offers a range of pizza, pasta, burgers, cocktails, and set pre-theatre menus. The retro-American style bar boasts an extensive wine list and an even longer cocktail menu. While it may be a bit pricey, it's known for providing a memorable experience.
Fantastic Food & Service with Excellent Wheelchair Access Visited Harry’s Bar just off Grey Street, across from the Theatre Royal, and had a great experience. The wheelchair access was excellent—big thanks to the manager for guiding us to the entrance on the other side of the street. The food was delicious and arrived quickly, but the highlight was definitely the desserts. The apple crumble was a standout—huge portion and absolutely delicious! Our waiter had a great personality and made us feel really comfortable throughout the meal. We’ll definitely be back!

First time visiting here on a day trip to Newcastle. We were a family of 3 - 2 adults and a 12 year old and got a seat straight away for dining despite it being fairly busy. There was a nice buzz in the place and the decor was really tasteful and atmospheric. Big shout out to the lovely Italian man from Sicily who served our table (sorry that we did not ask his name). The food was really tasty and good sized portions and a good variety of options on the menu. We were not disappointed and will definitely return.

Very tasty perfectly cooked roast beef. Friendly staff.

I visited here for the first time on the weekend. The food was pleasant but the dessert wasn't brilliant. It felt very mass produced and not very much attention to detail. The main course of the beef feather was wonderful and so tasty. The service here was a let down. I ordered a glass of water and it took a long time to come. When it did come she threw it on the table down the other end in front of someone else and just walked off. I think they were too busy for the amount of staff they had. I would definitely return however as the food and atmosphere was lovely !

This is a truly outstanding building, showcasing state-of-the-art architecture that seamlessly blends aesthetics with functionality. The design is not only visually impressive but also ensures excellent accessibility, making it welcoming for all.

It is a great building, there's view accross the river Tyne & the Millenium Bridge & the Baltic. Then you enter the venue where the music will be played & that looks fantastic. In come the orchestra, because I went there to listen to the music of Star Wars over the nine films, some were in "costume" Princess Leia, Chewbakka & the conductor with a Darth Vader mask. The ensemble the Royal Northern Sinfonia was really good, the accoustics fabulous & I had a really nice evening with the music of John Williams.

Great venue. Good to be able to stand up - a few rows of front stalls were removed. Hadn't seen this here before. Made for a better gig Father John Misty was superb.

I had never been here before. Always meant to come but then JADE was on and I obviously had to go as quickly as possible. I like the space. It’s great for music and worked well with the standing. Good views and amazing sound. Toilets aren’t the best but they’re are functional. It’s a great venue though.

A lovely venue. We had a drink before the show, plenty of space to stand/sit and chat. Staff were friendly. Needed to check bags in larger than A4 size which a kind staff member told us before we climbed steps to level 3 but we're otherwise unaware. Very clean and good seating area.

Great sound and a fantastic location for my first visit to the north east. Only downfall was not being able to take alcohol from the bar into the seated area but overall very happy

Saw Adam Ant at the Glasshouse recently...what a venue!!! The venue staff are amazing, really welcoming, everyone smiled at us, the auditorium area is fantastic the acoustic's are brilliant, the area is accessible in wheelchairs, the staff I noticed where incredibly helpful with patrons in wheelchairs allowing them to store the chair out the auditorium if they want to. It's easy to get to within the city & plenty of parking around the venue. All in all I'd love to come back soon! Thanks for helping to make a memorable evening ☺️

This is a review for joining as an access member online. A lady called Rebecca was brilliant in helping me. Im currently out of area in Manchester but there is a gig coming up although next year I didnt want to miss out. As the tickets are on sale Friday but the application can take upto 10 days! I sent the application electronically as it does say you can do it in person but thats not an option for me. I also attached a note explaining that I am wanting to specifically get tickets for the upcoming sale in 3 days and asked for help or advice on the best way to do it as an access person. Anyway Rebecca had my application sorted within the hour! Which is amazing. Obviously Im not saying they can do that all the time, as it must depend what they have going on and how many applications. I did send extra information which might of helped as I am on other schemes. However I wanted to leave a positive review for someone who I feel has gone above and beyond and got it sorted for me so quickly. This means hopefully now I can get tickets for the show I really want to see which is fantastic, so I can get excited now. Its brilliant when a venue are so helpful and make it easy for you as unfortunately some places dont. Rebecca also sent me useful information in her return email with how to book online or ring for tickets so Im ready to go. Thanks Rebecca and thanks Glasshouse international I look forward to the show and visiting the Venue next year.

Revolución de Cuba Newcastle is a lively rum bar and cantina located in the heart of the city. Housed in a four-floor venue, it offers a cocktail menu featuring premium Cuban rums, inspired by the vibrant nights of Havana. The iconic Reggae Rum Punch and various daiquiris are among the highlights. Visitors can also participate in a cocktail masterclass followed by a delicious two-course meal, where they can learn about rum and create their own Cuban drinks.
We did the sip and paint here and it was so much fun. The cocktails were lovely, and they even had a good range of non alcoholic ones for my friend who doesn't drink. We loved the shot of sprite with the non alcoholic porn star martini 😂 the staff were super friendly. Definitely recommend.

I visited on a Wednesday evening. The place very nice and welcoming. Staff was brilliant both at the front door and at the bar. We ordered a jug of Cuban Sangria, this was refreshing and sweet. We picked Sunshine Bowl with prawns. The presetantions was nice and inviting. However, we did ask if it was spicy, and we were told not. The dish was sprinkled with chilli flakes, making the flavour spicy. The waitress was really nice and changed the dish without flakes. I ordered the steak sandwich, this was nice a little bit spicy for my taste but definitely recommend if you like something with a little bit of heat. Overall I will be back to ordered the Sunshine bowl again as it was full of flavours . 😊

Wednesday night took nearly 2 hours from ordering for the food to come out. Beef ropa vieja had good flavours, chips were way too salty. Main thing that gave it 1 more star was the churros. They were served fast & were perfectly fluffy & crunchy, rum caramel really good.

1. Our pre-booked table wasn't ready upon arrival as they were "struggling to move the loud/drunk hen-do party from our table". Those were the words used. 2. Tables that sat next to us 15 mins later than us, we're served first. 3. Two out of 3 vegan meal options for my partner weren't available. She ordered the last option, a salad which came looking entirely different and missing ingredients than what the menu suggested. 4. Ordered patatas bravas without aioli as a dietary requirement, and was brought with plenty of it on, ignoring our request. 4. My beef brisket was 100% microwaved onto dry clumped rice (see photo) The music was so loud that bless your lovely waitress, she had to shout repeatedly to us to be heard and couldn't hear our answers until we comically shouted back. Yet she was the only positive element of this visit. Absolute chaos of a business all around otherwise. This is a stag and hen night destination.

I went to a Balkan party, the entry was 12 pounds, but you get a “free” shot of rakija if you come before 23:30. It was a scam. There was no rakija. Plus they made us pay for the table. Plus the bartender was rude. Nobody was apologising. My drink was bad. The music choice was not great.
Kristina A — Google review
Went for cocktail masterclass and dinner for 2. The masterclass is amazing and fun, thought it was a wonderful experience until we get to the restaurant for dinner. The entire great experience turned into nightmare when they make customers wait for over an hour to get their food considering it was “Pre-ordered” 2 hours in advance. Never been this disappointed with restaurant service in my entire life and ended up just walking out because the churros for dessert is already taking more than 30mins to get served. Arrived at resto 2pm and left 6pm without getting everything we paid for. Absolutely disappointing.

I cannot recommend Revolución de Cuba Newcastle enough for their bottomless brunch – it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, music, and good vibes. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was fresh, full of flavor, and felt like it had been made with care. The drinks flowed endlessly, with a great variety to choose from, and each one was spot on. What really made the experience outstanding, though, was our server Ellie. She was an absolute star from start to finish – attentive, warm, and always one step ahead. She made sure our glasses were never empty, gave brilliant recommendations, and made us feel so welcome the entire time. Ellie has that perfect mix of professionalism and fun that completely elevates the whole experience. If you’re looking for the best bottomless brunch in Newcastle, look no further than Revs de Cuba. Amazing food, amazing drinks, and if you’re lucky enough to be looked after by Ellie, you’re guaranteed to have the perfect time.

The menu features comfort food cooked to order using regional ingredients and includes dishes like Craster kippers with lemon parsley and omelette Arnold Bennett.
Amazing Service. Very welcoming and the standard of the food was fresh and tasty. My wife is pregnant and they re assured her of the menu and items she can and can’t have. My eggs Benedict was sublime with a tempura bacon which was so delicious.(need to know how this is done!) I will definitely be back and what a lovely little quaint street it is on in the heart of the city. It’s a must go for breakfast/brunch.

Lovely small cafeteria run by an all-female staff where they serve great breakfasts. Had the full English with extra of beans and hash browns. Black pudding was tender and rich in flavour. Poached eggs and crispy sausages. Nicely buttered mushrooms. Highly recommended.

Such a lovely little cafe, we had a lovely waitress serve us who spoke to us like we were old friends! The full English was HUGEEE, and my eggs benedict was one of the best I’ve ever had, the sausage was a great addition too! A protein fruit smoothie, Diet Coke, full English with extra hash browns and beans and an eggs Benedict with avocado and sausage was £35 which was very very reasonable! Will be returning!

We stopped by this tiny café and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were friendly. We had a really nice meal—everything was fresh, tasty, and made with care. It’s a small place, but the food and experience were genuinely enjoyable. A great little spot if you’re looking for a relaxed and satisfying meal. Would definitely visit again!
Megha D — Google review
Used to actually rave about this place and hadn’t been for a little while. First off they’re charging extortionate prices for orange juice only to see Lidl/aldi orange juice piled in the back on the floor…not a snob but at least provide better quality to match the price. Menu lied about what was being served - double yolks eggs? Nope there was one yolk per poached egg, customers aren’t blind. Paid £9 for 2 small over cooked poached eggs and some bland haggis, the water/grease from the poached eggs or haggis made the bread all wet and soggy which was grim. Partner paid £8 for a breakfast wrap which couldn’t even be held as it looked like it wrapped by a confused child. Contents mushy and not a lot of taste. £3.45 for a small coffee, pricey and poor, rough experience here.
Sophia W — Google review
The vibe is ruined by the manager constantly shouting, rushing, and micromanaging the staff from the open kitchen. Food wasn't great either, overcooked poached eggs (no gooiness in the yolk!). It seems the priority has shifted to quantity over quality. I felt sorry for the waitresses/staff.

The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, established in 2002, is a prominent gallery in northern England housed in a renovated flour mill. With four gallery spaces and no permanent collection, it showcases rotating exhibitions by artists from around the world. Notable past exhibitions have featured works by renowned artists such as Daniel Buren and Jesper Just. Situated in Gateshead Quays, the center contributes to the area's cultural regeneration alongside The Glasshouse International Centre for Music.
We had our wedding breakfast and reception at the Baltic and would highly recommend it! The venue itself was stunning; both the outside of it and also the views from within. We had our wedding breakfast on the top floor in restaurant SIX with amazing views over the Tyne and Gateshead. The food was great and we received lots of compliments from our guests for it. We had the evening reception in the Riverside room, with an outdoor terrace overlooking the Tyne. The sun was shining and the vibes on the terrace were perfect! The staff at the Baltic were great. The wedding planners helped us plan out every detail, coordinated with suppliers and were great on the day. We really appreciate all the hard work they all put in, and for looking after us so well. We had our dream wedding here and couldn’t have picked a better venue!

Called in late afternoon- it’s open till 6pm and is free. Wasn’t thrilled by the current exhibitions and only 2 floors were open. The Parasite exhibit didn’t explain enough for me to get what it was about. Good view of the river and city from 5th floor. Restaurant looked pricey but pleasant. Staffed by helpful people. We took the 54 bus back into Newcastle centre which was convenient.

Hayoung — Google review
One of our favourite family places to visit! The Baltic is free to enter (donations welcomed) and incredibly accessible for me (physically) and sensorily from our experience with our ND children. Of course, as a gallery, the exhibits change every few months. Recently two of our girls have LOVED the Harold Offeh: The Mothership Collective 2.0 which is a sensory explosion of bright colours, free play musical instruments, words to rearrange and toys to enjoy- the instruments are not loud , so even with a group of children accessing them, it's not overwhelming. This exhibition is available until January 2026. Having a "permanent" room is a huge pull for our youngest especially- and even more so when it features a sensory room. Think dimmed lighting, bubble tune, light boards, sequin boards and more wooden rainbow blocks than you could need. It's the perfect chill out space for anyone who needs it.

Sights & Landmarks
The Tyne Bridge is an iconic landmark in Newcastle, England, known for its open-work arch that creates a striking elliptical appearance when viewed from a distance. Spanning the River Tyne, this 7,000-ton bridge took over three years to complete and stands at 59 meters high and 389 meters long. It connects the city center with Gateshead and offers stunning views of the river and city skyline. The bridge is a popular spot for both pedestrians and drivers seeking picturesque photo opportunities.
There she is, the Tyne Bridge, watching down over all of us. As imposing as it is, it's also very comforting and I always look forward to seeing this whenever I am back home in my native North East.

There's always a holiday atmosphere on Newcastle Quayside. Iconic views, Baltic gallery, Millennium Bridge, plenty of pubs and restaurants. A lovely place for an evening stroll. The open air market on a Sunday is great for food, crafts, art and ice cream. In summer there's often special events like the beach resort or a tall ship, and the Baltic always has something new on display for a winter's day.
Chris B — Google review
Totally iconic, I love this bridge. Work has just started on a restoration which seems long overdue. Rust, rot, flaked paint. Poor really, but at least help is on the way for this UK landmark.

The Tyne Bridge is undeniably an iconic symbol connecting Newcastle and Gateshead, embodying the spirit and resilience of the region. When it opened it was the largest single-span bridge globally, and it remains a striking piece of engineering to this day. Walking across the bridge offers breathtaking views of the River Tyne and the surrounding cityscape. At sunset, the scenery is especially beautiful, casting warm hues across the skyline—a perfect backdrop for photos.

It has received numerous accolades including Britain's Best Park and Green Flag awards. The park offers various amenities such as play areas, a maze, pets' corner, walking and jogging routes, as well as sports facilities like bowling greens and tennis courts.
This is a beautiful park where we always have a fantastic time. My kids love playing football and other games, and we usually visit on weekends. Each time we come, there are new activities that surprise us, adding to the charm of this lovely place. My children especially enjoy exploring the maze and spending time around Saltwell Towers. The variety of flowers and tree species is stunning—it's truly a paradise for both kids and their guardians to have fun and enjoy the day. The café is a nice spot to relax, and the staff are incredibly kind and helpful, often going above and beyond for visitors. My kids especially love the ice cream, and we always enjoy having a picnic here.

A hidden gem! I'm from the North East and found this park recently. It's so lovely. There are several entrances if you are on foot. The car park is near the garden nursery. There is a mini Tyne Bridge display, a maze! a bird house with peacocks and parrots. I think I spotted a band stand too. There is a lake with plenty of ducks, geese and unusual birds. There is a useful board to illustrate the different birds. It's well worth a visit.

What a great park! It’s huge and has so many lovely areas: a huge lake, rose gardens, bandstand, sculptures, war memorials, a maze…! Lots of benches too. I spent a long time exploring and I’m sure I probably missed lots more. There were quite a few people of all ages visiting when I was there but it never felt crowded. Very popular with dog walkers, joggers and young families. The impressive building in the centre is now a cafe as the museum collection has been moved to Shipley Museum not far away.

Loved sitting outside on the upper floor, even though it was freezing! The heating lamps were nice but kept turning off every 5 minutes—please fix that, it’d make the experience so much better. Cocktails were amazing (£9 for a pornstar & French martini—both good), and my friend’s vanilla latte (£3) was surprisingly good too! I had the bang bang chicken salad. I was a bit disappointed as the salad was like a bag of salad with carrot red cabbage etc not Asian veg as described on the menu. I noticed there were long green beans which were nice and chopped fresh chilli. The chicken was nicely charred. The dressing was more like olive oil which was too much for me personally. Raval Indian Brasserie & Bar in Newcastle Gateshead offers a modern and sophisticated setting for Modern Indian fusion dining. Located in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, it has secured four national titles and is celebrated as the unrivaled champion in Northeast England. The restaurant is centrally located near popular landmarks such as Hilton Hotel, Glasshouse International Music Centre, and Newcastle Quayside.
I've just returned from a meal here with my girlfriend. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so, so welcome. The staff we absolutely incredible. We ordered the Royal Platter which they presented as multiple courses and they were so kind to add some complimentary poppadoms with the most delicious pickle trays I've ever had. They also very kindly provided some complimentary rice and garlic naan to accompany our meal. These all complemented the meal spectacularly. When the main event arrived, spread out in a manner where we could really enjoy it, it was stunning. The lobster tasted fresh and because it was a young lobster, the meat just melted. The meats were also good. If I had any complaint at all, it is that the seekh kebabs seemed a little overcooked. That said, the flavours were still delicious. We debated whether we could fit a dessert in. I raised my penchant for gulab jamun at the table and when it was the first thing the lovely waiter suggested, we immediately decided to share a portion. They were served hot with ice-cream and it was delectable and just right to finish off our meal. This is my new favourite restaurant in Tyne and Wear and we will definitely be returning. It's also somewhere that I'll be proud to bring business colleagues!

We were served a vegetarian feast in a calming, welcoming environment by conscientious and attentive waitstaff at Raval. We were assisted in ordering by the manager, who guided us based on our preferences and we were not disappointed. The Batata Bonda are not to be missed—light, crispy, and perfectly savory! Otherwise, the Panch-Mel Dal was the standout of our main dish choices, although all were memorable and delicious, including vegetable biryani. Highest recommendation for both food and service!

Immediate impressions were good when greeted at the door and quickly taken to nice table. The service was excellent throughout. However, what stood out was the food which was delicious, fresh and one of the best Indian meals I have had. The lamb was so tender and really nicely spiced (but not too hot). I would recommend this place to family and friends alike.

Went with my daughter and we had a great evening. We were greeted at the door and had a seat in the lounge area. Our drinks arrived and we were offered a trio of sharing dips which were delicious. We ordered our food and were shown to our table. For starters we shared Agra Onion Bhajia and the Daja Chana Chaat. Delicious. We ordered the Nawabi Lamb Passanda and the Adoori Chicken Korma with House Pilau and Naan bread. The flavours were fantastic and the meat so tender. If your in Newcastle or Gateshead you must visit Raval. First class food and service. Highly recommended.

Like most people we stopped here to eat before going to a show at the glasshouse (or slug as our friends call it) we've not had an Indian meal for ages.. Golly it was a stupendous reintroduction to amazing food.. Greeted at the door, seated to peruse the menu with drinks. When we were ready we were escorted to our table. Wonderfully light and crispy poppadoms and amazing dips (they brought out some hot lime pickle just for me) an array of dishes that were lip smacking yummy.. My limited punjab was received warmly (I don't do swear words) 10/10 from us..

Colonel Porter's Emporium is a homage to the renowned brewer behind Newcastle Brown Ale, offering comfort food and classic cocktails in a cozy setting. Located at the bottom of Dean Street, this basement tavern, botanical garden, and rhum bar features an extensive cocktail menu with options like Rhum Cocktails and Colonel's Cocktails. The venue also boasts a concealed 'speak-easy' hidden behind a fake bookcase for added intrigue.
We were told about this place by my cousin who lives in Newcastle, and it didn't disappoint! We met for a couple of quiet drinks and a catch-up, with live music on a Sunday evening. The place is huge with so much to see and look at! We got served by 2 lovely ladies, then got seated. There were only about 8 people in when us 4 arrived, but the atmosphere was relaxed and chilled. There was a guy singing on a small stage playing an acoustic guitar, he was fantastic! We found out he's the regular Saturday night singer, bloody amazing! As we were sat, the 2 ladies kept coming round taking our drinks orders and bringing them to our table! The place soon filled up! A very homely feeling and somewhere I'll definitely go to again! I didn't get many photos as my phone died, but I highly recommend this place on a Sunday! Can't wait to visit again! Only had drinks, no food.

Wonderful bar with live music even on a Wednesday night. Atmosphere and service were fantastic. Good value 2 for £15 cocktails with interesting options that make you want to try everything on the menu! Will definitely return next time I'm in Newcastle. Music was great and just what I needed.

Was told about this place for an after dinner drink and live music. Very well decorated and cosy surroundings, bit of a gentleman lounge bar feeling. Great place to finish off the Sunday evening, and the singer on stage, Dave Lynas, was amazing and played quite a catalogue of music. Staff were coming around every so often to take drink orders, so they didn't even have to move. Massive selection of drinks and deals on cocktails too.
Chris C — Google review
Good selection of cocktails and spirits. Table service. Quirky emporium. Staff are friendly. Live music. If you are going in the evening or at the weekend it’s best to book a table as it gets busy as it’s very popular.

Wow, wow, wow!!! This place is just astonishing. My first time visiting here today and I love it. The decor is beautiful with a good combination of lighting, plants and quirky furniture. The staff were lovey and so helpful and I had the most delicious cocktail ever which was a happy ever after. This was followed up by a strong but not forgotten which was delicious also. I would strongly recommend this place for a good drink and it offers sessions to attend cocktail making classes.

I stumbled upon this unique place tonight when I was with friends - thinking it was just another bar before I entered I was amazed by the interiors and feel of the place. I felt like I’d stepped into a sailor’s 1800’s vortex - I LOVED IT! Ordering a Spicy margarita and a Orange Margarita (Margarita Mondays) they were brilliant and so we later ordered a second drink (more margaritas!) The bar wasn’t too busy with a chilled vibe about the place, with an attentive bar lady named Emma- was perfect for a casual Monday drink. Think I have found my new favourite bar! Affordable, good location, tasty and unique atmosphere 10/10.
Sarah H — Google review
Be wary if paying by cash for your drink! There was table service, but as I didn't want to stop and count a lot of small coins, I just handed over a 5 pound note. I assumed the server would come back with my change, but he never did, so I ended up paying £5 for a half pint of Pepsi Max that was worth £2.90!

Great atmosphere 👌 2 good acts on tonight a pianist who played some cracking tunes and when we returned a few hours later a guitarist who also played some brill songs Dave Lynas I think he was called... very good.

Coffee shop
Located in the heart of Newcastle near Central Station, Pink Lane Coffee is a full-service café and roastery known for its commitment to quality and flavor. The café offers a wide range of coffee blends, including single-origin options from Ethiopia, all freshly roasted in-house. In addition to their exceptional coffee, Pink Lane Coffee also serves delicious food, particularly their cakes which are available for takeaway at the nearby Sugar Down Bakery. The friendly service adds to the inviting atmosphere of this independent café.
Arrived Newcastle after long journey from Essex. Went in as it look nice room, atmosphere, nice colouring, few plants and details. Drinking tea taste nice. No issue at all. 10/10.
BigMekBoy — Google review
Pink Lane Coffee, in my opinion, do the best flat whites. I always pop in here whenever I’m in Newcastle. Today I also had a vegan chocolate chip cookie which was crisp on the edges and soft in the middle. Personally, I’m not a fan of the strip lights, they feel too bright and are not ideal for creating a relaxing ambiance. There is a very small seating area outside for warmer days, or those who can tolerate the cold. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Melanie H — Google review
As far as coffees go, this is the best flat white I've had. Nice atmosphere inside also, pretty tasty goats cheese/tomato sandwich too. The coffee is the main attraction though.
Julian D — Google review
One of the few cafes in Newcastle offering filter brew coffee, and they do it well. I tried both the filter and a flat white; both were excellent. The baristas are knowledgeable and happy to chat about coffee beans. The place itself has a relaxed vibe, with a great music playlist. My only wish is that they had longer opening hours and some kind of loyalty program or points system.
Alan N — Google review
I really like the coffee from here, and it's one of the only places that serves a long black. However every time I ask for a long black they say "we have a batch brew instead if you'd prefer?", why? A batch brew is nothing at all like the specific espresso drink I ordered. I don't think someone would accidentally order a long black, as they're so infrequently on menus. The only reason I can think they would do this is that they can't be bothered to make my drink. All the staff are standoffish, they barely smile when greeting you. It feels like my custom is a burden on their time. I don't understand why people work in a customer service job if they can't be pleasant to customers! The food is ok, but if I was going to pick up a vegan cookie/cake I think pink lane bakery just up the road offers fresher and tastier options for the same price (and with lovely customer service). The atmosphere when sitting in is not great. Definitely not cosy coffee shop vibes at all. It's a real shame because the coffee really is good, just everything else is letting you down.

Just popped into PLC this afternoon to pick up a quick, take-away Flat white. I don't spend as much time in town as I used to, so I've not been here in a good few years. Great to see the coffee is still quality and full of flavour. Flat white was very tasty. Will be sure to pop back again in the near future and not leave it a few years again haha. Thanks Anth & the team ☕️🤘

Came in with the wife to have a nice sit down and enjoy some coffee as we heard about the place from reviews. The coffee itself is not bad. However, we were quite surprised to the behavior of the staff. The blonde lady at the till was a little rude to be honest. Its a shame because its such a nice place.

Very underwhelmed. Was expecting more based on the reviews. Staff seemed bored. The cappuccino was tiny for the price and the pain au chocolat was nothing special.

Came today with a friend, using a Groupon voucher. Brilliant value as we had 4 small plates & a bottle of wine to share for £30.95. Our server Emma was lovely, very friendly & helpful. We even paid a bit extra and had a side dish & deserts too! This was our first visit, but we will definitely be back.

We were served by Jacie & she was so helpful & polite. I'd definitely recommend a visit & we will definitely return!

Very nice place on the water, between the bridges. Relaxt atmos. The weather was nice, so sitting outside was great. Nice beers on tap outside, not much choice and none local. There is a food court where you can order with a QR code, and the food will be brought to your table. We had Indian, Greek food and a Meatstack burger. All very good!

Lovely spot under the Tyne bridge for coffee and brunch, I had the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and it was lovely, a nice spice to it, great crunch bread, the coffee and chilled atmosphere was fabulous too, friendly helpful staff too, great spot and also worth the scenic walk across the Tyne to get to

Turned up at 8:15pm Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend and told they'd just called last orders. A star for the friendly doorstaff who let us go in. We figured we'd get a quick half and move on. The options were very mainstream (they had Guinness and Kopperburg for example). Looks like it could be nice, but my opinion was it wasn't really what it was advertising in beers or opening times
Paul M — Google review
Popped in here for a pre dinner drink. Great location right on the river. Only the outside bar was operating. Because it's outside the drinks are served in plastic cups. Found it more expensive than the pubs, 20 pounds for 2 pints of beer and a gin and tonic.
Karen E — Google review
Fab location with great selection of food outlets. We tried a couple and would highly recommend Dabbawal Indian street food! Point to improve: It’s on the expensive side (£7 a pint), the beer selection is small considering its a tap location and the app confusing. Didn’t take away from awesome location and fab food/drink atmosphere would defo recommend 😄

By far one of the best place to eat and drink in Newcastle & Gateshead. The location is perfect, the views are outstanding. Food from the restaurant, Träkol, is amazing and one of the most unique dining experiences in the area. The Central Bar is a historic pub located at the Gateshead end of the Tyne Bridge, housed in a beautiful Victorian building. It is known for its great selection of hand-pulled ales and live music events held in its function room. The pub features a renovated bar area, two upper level function rooms for performances, and a new rooftop terrace for enjoying drinks outdoors.
Been to this pub a couple of times love it. Good range of ales and ciders on, food menu looks good not tried yet.
Andy S — Google review
You definitely want to include The Central in your crawl if venturing over the river. It makes a nice contrast to the quirky craft beer joints nearby. The Central is not quirky but does offer plenty of interesting beers on tap. It’s relatively spartan, relatively basic and harks back to a bygone era. As dependable as an old Geordie gent.
Richard W — Google review
Didn't eat but had a few excellent pints of Guinness right up on the roof terrace. The pub seems to have various rooms for either a game of pool or a gig (I saw posters for the brilliant Malcolm Middleton gig being held in October). Shame I was only visiting as this place would be a super local.

Hatch Coffee is a recent addition to Newcastle Upon Tyne's specialty coffee scene, located in the city center within a former parking attendant's cabin. Despite its small size, the setup of Hatch Coffee is quite impressive. It has quickly gained a reputation for serving some of the best coffee in town at affordable prices, using local ingredients to support the community. The staff members are known for their friendliness and great service, making it a perfect stop on the way to work.
For the past eight years, this quaint little hatch just at the side of Northumbria University has been serving Melbourne-inspired coffee culture to Newcastle residents. Hatch Coffee has certainly made quite a name for itself, attracting a string of regulars. Mark and Claire, the founders, fell in love with coffee during their travels in Australia and New Zealand. They trained with coffee experts, perfected their skills, and returned to England with the dream of starting their own coffee business. Today, Hatch Coffee operates out of a former parking attendant's cabin, committed to delivering the best products and friendly service. I tried the Mocha and enjoyed every sip of it. Mark evidently takes his barista passion seriously. This quaint little spot, with its rich backstory and commitment to quality, is a gem for coffee lovers. Quaint little spot, serving quality coffee.

No shortage of coffee shops in Newcastle but this one is certainly deserving of a place on the podium, alongside Newton’s and probably North Shore. First of all, genius location - inside what used to be a car park ticket office repurposed for refreshment magic. Coffee that absolutely towers above the chains in every metric. A great selection of other drinks too, and sweet treats. The backstory is also on display which I found most interesting and inspiring. To top it off, the guy is a very polite, friendly and cool chap, living the dream. It’s more vital than ever that we support these amazing independent business - unless we want every town / city to become indistinguishable, lost to the corporate cleansing - washing the streets of character, personality, individuality, replacing them with chains devoid of passion, skill, heart and soul. It can’t be overstated just how important, and how much much better places such as Hatch are. Strongly recommend.

Great coffee, really well made by a polite fella. The coffee was like velvet, almost over flowing before the lid was put on, hot and tasty - basically an expertly made coffee. Two coffees and change off a fiver, almost unheard of today! Definitely worth stopping in the rain today, thanks.

Incredible! Might be the best coffee in town and I’m a tough judge! Little horse trailer in a car park. Only open 7-2 Monday-Friday Been meaning to go there, Really happy I did. The line should of been an indicator that it was great coffee. I read about them in a coffee guide! The staff member that was working was super friendly and a great person to see in the morning on my way to face the drama of the day! I hope to go way more cause it on my way to work! I saw they had a loyalty stamp card, Into that idea! Who doesn’t like discounts or freebies? The price, Way cheaper than I thought it would be. Iced Blueberry matcha with milk 10/10 Iced Blueberry matcha with oat milk 10/10 It tastes just like Blank Street for anyone who’s tried it, maybe a little less sweet which is better in my opinion. If you haven’t tried Blank Street, it basically tastes like a blueberry muffin not much matcha flavour except for a little aftertaste which is really good. Sweet but not grossly overwhelming and not overpowering the matcha. I always enjoy coming here, but not as a big group as it can be hard to find a seat when busy as people work on laptops etc. but the coffee and other drinks are always consistently really nice; they have oat, coconut, soy, and normal milk; they have a breakfast/ brunch menu and serve sandwiches which are all a little pricy but good; and they serve a range of cakes/ sweet treats - some of which are gluten free and vegan.

The ambiance in the cafe is nice and the staff are very friendly. The flat white coffee was good, great strong taste and some simple latte art. The food was a major let down. We went for breakfast and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I ordered the French toast as I wanted something sweet, but instead what is got was stodgy bread with an absolutely disgusting bitter green slop all over it (matcha flavour maybe) and some gone off strawberries, no syrup. It was truly awful. My partner had the avocado toast and poached egg, the avocado was unripe and the egg was over cooked (hard yolk).

Visited Newcastle and was looking for a decent coffee while wandering around the city. The coffee itself is pretty good - the best I’ve managed to find in Newcastle. The service though is very questionable. As some other reviews have said, impossibly slow, and then making you feel like the inconvenience for asking for a coffee (presumably if not a regular). A real shame - as with better service / customer flow, it could be a great spot

Heart of town. (Shame the Mayfair was abolished for the gate mind). A cheap jar at spoons if wanted, the casino is bang on, and seen a couple of gigs in the bar at the front, its a good starting point for a night on the hoy. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are praised for their exceptional cocktail-making skills, both on and off the menu.
Previous reviews read, we walked to Café Mercy on a Sunday lunch time for some cocktails. A friendly greeting by the bar person and two free glasses of water were brought to the table. We were informed that it had been a busy weekend so the small plates (food option) were limited. The bar person created four incredible cocktails. One not on the menu. The ambience was lovely, vinyl records playing in the background, the bar person was great and we had amazing cocktails. Would highly recommend a visit.

Gorgeous place - chilled, relaxed and ideal for chatting and catching up with friends. The staff are just lovely - so pleasant and chatty - I think this is my new favourite place! Well done Café Mercy - you've nailed it in terms of friendliness, service and ambience :)

THE BEST bar. Wonderfully skilled, friendly, and passionate staff. Without exaggeration, they have made us the best cocktails, both on and off the menu, and they are the reason why we go here. We'll miss this place, but we'll come back whenever there's a chance for it. Everyone is great, but giving extra credit to James and Iona, who made our visits great every single time. Thank you💕

Managed to grab a table outside on a lovely sunny afternoon. It had been raining but the furniture was quickly dried off with some blu roll. Just had cocktails which were all really delicious as they always are here, and the staff all brilliant and just the right amount of attentive. This is one of my go to venues in Newcastle every visit and it does not disappoint.

Called about 6ish on a Sunday afternoon and grabbed a table outside. Unfortunately we didn’t manage a cocktail and not a great experience. My friend went inside to order. There was only one occupied table inside and three members of staff serving. But she was ignored for a good few minutes. Then not greeted in a friendly manner by the guy, she felt like an intrusion. One of us wanted a Bloody Mary which is on the menu. They said they were out of Bloody Mary’s (it’s a cocktail bar !!!!!). Because of this and the less than friendly service, we left. Went to WC and PTMY. An entirely different experience. Very friendly staff and good service with gorgeous cocktails. Looking at previous reviews that seem good, maybe we hit them on a bad day.

Amazing Gin bar! Good atmosphere and reasonably priced. Over 300 gins, the barmen/women are very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. If they aren't too busy and you're sat at the bar they occasionally offer you some tapas for free with your drinks. Really nice touch. Haven't sat in for a meal yet but would like to.

St. James' STACK has made a grand return in August 2024, transforming into a vibrant social hotspot that promises fun for everyone. Nestled near the Gallowgate end, this lively venue boasts an impressive container village design and is dog-friendly, making it perfect for family outings. With an array of food vendors like Brack Burger and Bao Down, there's something to satisfy every palate. The atmosphere buzzes with live music events and unique activities such as Kroud Karaoke sing-alongs.
I visited during lunchtime and was really impressed. The setup is incredibly unique, with large shipping containers stacked together to create a vibrant space full of diverse food options. The variety of cuisines on offer is fantastic, and the overall vibe of the place is unlike anything else. What really surprised me on my first visit was how busy it was, even on a weekday. The live music added a great atmosphere and made the experience even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more from the different vendors. The food I had was really good with not a lot of choice from the particular vendor, but with how busy it must get, I can't imagine they could provide many more options. Highly recommend giving this place a visit!

The Stack in Newcastle is an amazing spot with a fantastic atmosphere! There are so many great food choices, plenty of seating, and the live band adds to the vibrant vibe. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy good food, drinks, and music—you could easily lose a few hours here! Highly recommend for a fun and lively experience.

Went on Saturday, Newcastle away, people queuing when we passed at 9.30am. Went in around 11am, no tables but managed to find a barrel & stool by the bar. Lots of variety of food to choose from, quick service & also quick service at the bar. Toilets clean. Great atmosphere with a live band.

Fantastic venue - loads of options to eat and drink - live music and brilliant on a match day. Don’t not visited some of the good local pubs too but this is a great venue to really get the feel of the city. Management should consider opening more of these lively food courts around England.

Literally the best bar in Newcastle, the vibe and music is brilliant, if Newcastle United are playing the atmosphere is electric. I'm gradually trying all the food outlets, so far can fault any of them

Horrific night club and service! Had booked a table here on Saturday night well in advance and paid a £500 deposit (£1600 total), our table was booked for 10:30 however we arrived about 45 minutes early and asked if we could just go into the bar etc for a drink until our table was ready, we was greeted by rude staff member who told us table booking don't start until 11pm etc even though our booking confirmation said 10:30. Anyway they advised us we couldn't enter early but they had a 'sister' bar around the corner we could go to until our booking so we went there first and it was called 'Aveika', we went here and had such a good time however once it was time for our booking in Livello we headed back to the club only to be denied entry because the bouncers didn't like the look of one member of our groups clothing despite letting people enter the club in the exact same clothing. After discussing with the bouncers i then asked for a manager as i wanted my £500 deposit back only to be told be a rude man and woman who was working on the door that 'this wasn't the process and we couldn't have our money back' Eventually we managed to speak to some staff member that worked inside the club and they confirmed they would allow us entry however we would need to wait outside in the freezing cold until our table was ready. After standing outside for maybe 20 minutes they came out and told us 'they could not find our booking' even though we had confirmation and a receipt of payment for the £500 deposit. After standing outside for maybe about 15 minutes they came out and told us they had found a table for us and we was allowed into the club. They did not give us the table we had reserved upstairs but instead a table downstairs where the service was horrific! The night club itself was absolutely terrible, terrible music and was half empty inside. Would not recommend anyone goes here unless you wanted to be treated horrific by members of staff and overall have a terrible night. Much better places to go in Newcastle than this!! The club seriously need to rethink their door staff, absolute terrible treatment from them who all thought they was better than everyone else there and going out of their way to try and ruin peoples nights. Do not waste your money we left after an hour of being in there.
Kristina L — Google review
I was ‘kicked out’ the bar for being unsure if I wanted to be upstairs or downstairs. The head doorman did not investigate this thoroughly therefore I was told the reason I was unable to go back in was being rude to staff. Which I was not in any way. Group of 11 girls left due to this.
Abbie C — Google review
Nice bar with expansive outdoor seating and great selection for cocktails. There was a bit of confusion on our visit that a flyer said 'classic cocktails 2-4-1', but after ordering there are only selected cocktails included, despite the flyer not showing any terms and conditions. The bar staff were very accommodating with the confusion and were professional in doing so.
Chris — Google review
This club is getting away with scamming people in broad daylight. DO NOT GO THERE!. Wish I had read the other reviews before we agreed to go. My friends and I made a booking in advanced and paid in excess of £500 for a group reservation. A couple of the guys arrived before 10pm and was refused entry on some made up reason by the bouncer. They obviously didn’t like the idea of some appropriately dressed black guys being in their empty club. We tried to get a refund on the booking and after numerous calls and emails it’s still took 2 months which eventually lead to them DENYING us our money back. Absolute Criminals running this place. Save yourself from a disappointing rip-off night and go somewhere else trust me.

Wine bar
Tucked away at the prime location of no.1 Grey Street, The Vineyard Wine Bar is a delightful fusion of Latin and American styles that radiates a cheerful summer holiday atmosphere. This charming spot has become a favorite among both locals and visitors, making it an ideal destination for gatherings like hen parties. With an impressive array of wines, spirits, bottled beers, and tantalizing cocktails on offer, it's easy to see why guests find themselves lingering long into the night.
Drinks were amazing, staff were lovely. There was disruption with another customer and we were approached by said disruption, the staff intervened quickly, and were polite throughout the process. We were able to have a good laugh with staff and they even gave us some shots for the inconvenience caused by someone else. Heres too good people, good places to drink and a bloody good cocktail.

A firm fav on the Newcastle bar scene. Great for a relaxed drink and a good catch up with friends. A hidden treasure of a must go to! A fantastic selection of beers, wines and cocktails. Always great chatty friendly staff. Now with an outdoor seating area to watch the world go by or people watch.

Always a nice place when it's quiet. Got a few weird looks from the barman on shift on 17th Jan 19 @ 21:00. This is possibly due to being a male with a male companion so maybe he was not used to that, but other than that this is usually my to go place when I just want a chilled drink.

Only stopped in for one drink. Personally didn't like the vibe or decoration, I felt like I was in a done up bathroom by many different people as none of the aesthetics go together. The staff member was nice when we visited. Nothing specifically bad about this place other than the atmosphere but not for me.

highly recommend, we travelled 6 hours to come visit our family up here for a few days! we spotted this bar and went in for a “drink” ended up spending the rest of the night here, Door Security I think his name was John, he was lovely and as I explained I’m disabled and struggle with steps he helped me each time I went outside. Nouri behind bar was lovely too!! Down to heart girl, really appreciate you!! look forward to seeing you again! and thank you for the lovely night guys!! I’ll definitely be popping back to here when we’re back!! the only downside out of the whole night was no disabled toilet and steep stairs but with help it was no issue:)

Microbus Gateshead is a new craft beer and natural wine bar located near the Tyneside services in Gateshead. The pub features a VW Campervan theme with a cool stylized interior, including a VW Camper bar front. Despite its novelty decor, the quality and variety of beers served are exceptional, offering a remarkable selection of beer styles from small breweries both local and across the country.
Spotted this place a few weeks back and knew I needed to visit. Had theatre tickets booked in Newcastle so had a walk over to Gateshead, especially. Made to feel very welcome by Suzie as soon as we went in. We were first in that day as we were so keen! 😄 Offered tasters to help decide on drinks, and Suzie was obviously very knowledgeable on the stock. Lots of choice from a wide range of local brewerys. The drinks were fairly priced. Loved the quirky bus/van life style decor. Added bonus that we got to meet Harriet the pub dog and feed her a treat. Did a steady little turn over whilst we were there. Having never been there others that obviously drink there were friendly. Had a relaxed atmosphere. Sold crisp snacks that were really good. Although not Vegan ourselves, good to know that everything offered, both food and drink, is suitable for Vegans. Definitely going to go again! A fun place.

One of my favourite bars in the Railway Quarter - has a great personality and puts on some brilliant musical arts. Beware though - the strong beers are deceptively delicious!

Whenever we are up in Newcastle (which is often) - we will always make the trip over the bridge to visit Microbus without fail. It is an outstanding pub all round. There is great group of locals who drink there, the team working there are always great even when super busy, and the beer is out of this world. Whether you like traditional real ale, hazy craft beers, or 15%+ imperial stout you will find it here and it will be kept perfectly. Well deserved winner of many beer awards.

I recently visited The Potter's Wheel Pub in Sunniside and had a delightful experience. Sab, the young owner, along with his family, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Grey Owl Café bar is a stylish and elegant establishment located on Grey Street, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, beautiful chandeliers, and art decor. The drinks menu offers an array of cocktails including the Grey Owl, Smoked Maple, Liquid Gold, and Monkey Business alongside classic favorites like Espresso Martini and Mojito. Additionally, outdoor seating provides a great opportunity to enjoy delicious cocktails while watching the world go by.
Went here after a stroll through the city centre and it was great, the decor felt very classy along with how well dressed the staff were, I got a margarita and it was one of the best I had had, Dan who made our cocktails, came over and checked everything was to our liking, he was also very knowledgeable about the drinks and cocktails and you could tell he was passionate about making sure that everything that went out was the highest quality. For food we got the Shawarma flatbread, Garlic Mushrooms and Mini Caesar salad. They were all excellent, the shawarma was a generous portion size and well seasoned, the sauce on the garlic mushrooms was to die for and the mini Caesar salad was fresh and tasty, 10/10 will definitely be back soon for their 2 for 14 cocktail offer

One of my fav places in Newcastle. 1minute away from The Monument so it’s just outside the hustle & bustle of the main shopping area. A great chilled atmosphere in a cool trendy bar. Dogs are welcome. In the summer they set up an outdoor seating area which is great to people watch! Loads of other bars very close-by to bounce into. A great selection of wines and spirits at reasonable prices for a City centre bar. The Staff are super friendly and helpful. Table service available
J B — Google review
Met a good friend here for some drinks before we went elsewhere for food, so cannot comment on the food side of things. On my arrival, I received a really nice welcome and then I sat and waited for my friend. Once he arrived, we enjoyed a couple of drinks each. It is table service, which adds to the experience. There is a fair (and very common nowadays) 10% service charge which is absolutely fine. The only reason for the 4 stars is that there wasn’t enough of the right ingredients to make any additional Bloody Mary cocktails which was a shame. But other than that, we had a lovely time. Such a lovely layout and there’s a fantastic seating area outside which no doubt is a big hit in the nicer weather.

I had a three day stay in Newcastle, and luckily found this place the first morning. Returned everyday. Its a beautiful interior, lots of style, but very easy going and relaxing. Staff are immaculately dressed but could not be more genuinely welcoming and friendly. Service was spot on. Good quality coffee, and the breakfast menu is reasonably priced, portion size good, and of excellent quality.

Situated close to Theatre royal this is an attractive looking restaurant/bar. Very quick service by professional staff with a good choice of food and drink. I had bruschetta and glass of merlot and he plumped for cheese (gruyere which was lovely) and tuna melt with beer. Both very tasty and served quickly but thought £30 was expensive especially as they add a 10% tip. Toilet wasn't working on first floor so had to go up another flight of stairs but did go past a lovely snug area on top floor.

My mojito looked like it was made well but tasted weird. I think it was either lacking in limes or had too much soda... Or both Our chicken tenders didn't come with a dip. There appeared to only be one person for the bar. Which meant slow service when a few people rocked up at the same time. Dunno where the 3/4 appeared from to give everyone their food at the same time? Or where they disappeared to after? 👀 Food was ruddy tasty! 🤤 Espresso Martini was pretty good. Ambience/atmosphere was canny too. Place was a bit empty though. There was live music. Kind of Rockabilly style. Suited the place. Would return 👍

After several nights in this bar in Newcastle while attending a conference I was really impressed with the bar staff. On Thursday and Friday there was a really nice barmaid. The bar was fairly quiet but open late. It was the perfect place for a late night drink. Several of us attending the conference went back on Saturday evening. We had the same experience with the bar staff, they were friendly and accommodating. That all changed when the security staff, went crazy!! I'd asked a member of staff if I could look at a whisky bottle to see which part of Scotland it was distilled in, as i didn't recognise the name on the bottle. As soon as the bar person past me the bottle to have a look. Without warning the bouncer on the door aggressively snatched the bottle out of my hand and accused me of trying to steal it! He was very angry and refused to listen to me when I tried to explain I just wanted to look at the bottle. The guy behind the bar tried to say the same thing to the security guy. It didn't help, I seriously thought the security guy might attack me. The barman then apologised for the bouncers aggressive behaviour. Almost straight after that alarming exchange another bouncer came up to me and told me angrily that I couldn't stand at that part of the bar! I would have probably left it there but at last orders the same bouncer wouldn't let one of my colleagues go to the toilet just before we were leaving. The security staff were so rude and aggressive for absolutely no reason, we left feeling really awful. What had been three great evenings in this bar was totally ruined in a few minutes by these thugs. Please DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR, as there's a good chance you will be treated the same way. We spent a good amount of money over those evenings and we were left feeling totally abused by the security staff. Again the bar staff were amazing but totally let down by security.

Couldnt fulfill a food order that we waited over an hour and a half for. Lied about what they had said only to negotiate a partial refund and some fresh fries. Blamed it on their new kitchen staff...Good teamwork. Drinks awful, barmaid couldn't be bothered to charge a table individually and factually lied about the beer tower being better value than buying a pint individually, because she could t be bothered to go back and forwards to the bar even though they presented this as an option. Told the group about a bingo game being £1 to enter which we were happy to play only to be told after we completed a line that there was no surprise....nice!! Totally spoilt our night out, wouldnt bother coming back here.

Nice venue split over two floors. We attended a cabaret show in the upstairs venue. The show was entertaining and by the end the whole audience was up and singing and dancing. Downstairs was a sultry jazz singer and band. Great vibe to the place - turns to the camera - Nice!

My favourite venue to play in Newcastle. The ambience is outstanding, the decor is impeccable and the staff are super helpful and really quite lovely. They make you feel like part of the family. If I still lived in Newcastle I'd be asking for a job there. Taking on the legacy of the world famous Newcastle Jazz Café, the Prohibition cabaret bar could not be in better hands. I literally can not say enough for things about this place.

Harvest Canteen is a charming café and canteen located in the vibrant area of Newcastle upon Tyne. It's known for serving some of the best coffee in the area, with visitors raving about their delicious flat white. Despite being busy, the staff are praised for their friendly and welcoming service. If you're looking for a delightful spot to enjoy great coffee and tasty treats, Harvest Canteen is definitely worth a visit.
Fantastic coffee and a great selection of sweet treats. Also great place to buy your coffee beans.

Delicious coffee and crossaint. Very nice stuff. Good atmosphere there. My only criticism is the cleanliness of the toilet. Needs some refurbishment.
Mona L — Google review
I come here often and am very happy with the food, coffee, prices, and service! The pastries are delicious and I love that they have outside seating as well plus it's spacious and there is plenty of seating inside too. It's in a quieter area of Jesmond which is a plus so usually easy to find a seat. Definitely recommend! 😊

It's 9am and I come in for coffee having set off at 6.30am to move my daughter into her uni house. Stood waiting to be served, a guy in front of me, he leaves and I'm waiting to get the attention of the server - no one in the shop at this point, except me. Then a guy whose clearly a regular walks in and starts talking to the server, server ignores me and engages with him, then one of regulae guys party also comes in and gets attention of server. I have to say ' can I get served' - was I invisible!? Might seem minor to the server but this is a no-no in customer service, treat customers with respect. I'm a big indy fan but not sure I'll be back. Frustrating. Coffee was ok.

35The High Level Bridge

Bridge
The High Level Bridge, located less than a mile from the Tyne River, is one of six bridges in the area. It serves as a dual-use bridge with an upper-level train track and lower-level road for cars and double-decker buses. The bridge offers scenic views of several other nearby bridges including the swing bridge, Tyne bridge, and millennium bridge. Additionally, it is known for its historical significance as it continues to accommodate pedestrian, road, and rail traffic.
Walked across this bridge after visiting the castle (access to it is just across the road from the keep). From the covered pedestrian walkway, I not only got to see what a brilliant feat of Victorian engineering it is, but also enjoyed a stunning view of the Tyne and its other iconic bridges. A Grade 1 listed building, it was designed by Robert Stephenson to carry the London-Edinburgh railway line across the river from Gateshead to Newcastle, and was opened in 1849. Trains still run along the highest level of the bridge, but due to weight restrictions, only local buses and taxis are allowed on the lower road level. The best photo opportunities and unimpeded views are halfway across, but you need to watch out for the fast cyclists. Some great views of the bridge from the quayside too, especially at night when it's illuminated.
Valerie H — Google review
Warning: If you are down by the riverside and then decide to see the view from this bridge, they are not kidding when they call this High Level! There are very steep, narrow steps that will take you up to the bridge, and you are rewarded with a view of the other bridges - although you have to pick which side you want as you can't cross the road on the bridge.
Karen B — Google review
Fantastic views from this bridge on the other Tyne bridges. The 1850 iron cast bridge is no longer deemed strong enough for traffic, so only pedestrians are allowed to cross. This makes it even more enjoyable to visit this bridge to cross the river.
Pedro P — Google review
Designed by Robert Stephenson, built by the Hawks family, from 5,050 tons of iron, the height of the railway is about 120 ft above high water. Officially opened in 1849 by Queen Victoria. The road deck was opened in 1850. The original gas lamps on the bridge have a blue plague. The company charged tolls on the use of the road crossing, a pedestrian paid a halfpenny, and the crossing was open from 5 am until 6 pm, although from June 1871 24-hour access was made available. In 1950, the High Level Bridge was classified as a Grade I listed structure. Trains still run on it, taxis and buses as well, only in a one way system and a 7.5 ton weight limit, pedestrians and cyclists use it freely. Great views as well, shame about the graffiti.
Pete H — Google review
Great place to walk across and take in panoramic views of Newcastle and the Tyne.
RithuTheExplorer V — Google review
Worth the walk to reach this footbridge. You get a fantastic overview of Newcastle Bridge, the river Tyne, the Lock and beyond. It seems to be under restoration, so do be careful. The footpath is shared with delivery bikes alike, and lots of people. But you won't be disappointed with the views.
Renato L — Google review
Could be the best views at the city from this bridge
Eugen F — Google review
I don’t walk over this bridge much but I do go over this bridge on the bus a lot and it’s a very beautiful bridge, the view is good on the level where you walk and buses go over but even more beautiful on the top where trains go over
