Amazing market hidden away in Arequipa! Lovely local vibe, I bought some strawberries that were delicious and a VERY fair price (compared to England). I also ate rocoto rellano con mes from a stall, it was an amazing traditional dish. Highly recommend walking through the market for an experience!

Really nice. Go there buy some fruits and taste it (you can buy a lot for 10 soles already). You also find cheese, fish and some hats there. It is interesting and not too big.

If you're trying to sample the local produce, but local meats, sausages or even cheeses this place is wonderful. They do have a lot of local teas and even small shops with plants and seeds.

It's a little bit crowded, but almost everything could be found here. Good to try the juice and local food.

Our favorite local market by far, as they offer everything we needed in our trip. The fresh juice stands were how we started each visit and the fruit stands themselves were a treat. We found a dedicated fruit guy and return to him each time as his prices never changed for us. The other stands changed prices when they saw we were American and so I shopped until I found someone who doesn’t. The meat selection was phenomenal and fresh, and the flowers were one of my wife’s favorite things to pick up. The overall quality of this market is definitely superior to others we visited and thus we return here often.

If you are in Arequipo, you must go to the local market. This is not a tourist trap. You will see mostly locals shopping here. Goggle translating app will be handy here.

What an incredible market! You’ll find everything from souvenirs and herbs to Palo Santo, along with food stalls, fresh juices, and an abundance of fruits. The people are incredibly warm and welcoming, and while you can try bargaining, the prices are already fantastic! A must-visit when in Arequipa!

Cool place for dancing, they mostly play electro music but Tuesdays and Thursdays someone teaches Bachata and Salsa at 9pm. Really cool moves.

A representative took us from the street and told us about the rooftop place. We were there for maybe a half hour and then a huge dance class came in and they took over the roof meaning we could only listen to music related to what they were doing and they took up the entire bar area making it difficult to order drinks

Food was top notch but the music passed from one genre to another without no connection and that bothers me,if you're a musical person like me who thrives in a good music place,don't go here,if you are in need for good food and a few drinks (as I desperately needed) go here but like me you will find the music annoying by a total of 1 hour.

It's nice, the music is good. Peruvians go there to meet foreigners and vice versa. You can't have a conversation, though. The music is good loud. It's just to go dancing.

Just completed the guided tour of Museo Santuarios Andinos. As others have noted, the guide is mandatory. Entrance fee is 25 soles plus tip. Photography is not allowed. I had a private French-language tour since I was the only participant. The museum was crowded, so we explored rooms out of order when space became available. The guide rushed through the exhibition without allowing time for independent exploration. The entire tour lasted only 20 minutes. While the exhibition is interesting, I found limited value beyond what's readily available online (like the Wikipedia article on Mummy Juanita). I understand why the actual mummy isn't displayed for preservation reasons, but paying 30 soles (25 + 5 tip) for pottery, dolls, and textiles felt excessive. I'm disappointed and feel robbed. In my opinion, not worth the cost for what's offered.

Some of the most interesting artifacts I saw in Peru. The main exhibit is no longer exhibited to ensure its preservation, fair enough. However, the museum is very small. 25 soles + guide tip is obscene for such a tiny museum. Even in Europe, £5 would be overpriced for that. The mandatory guide told us some interesting things but the delivery was very flat and provided no better value than if they had put in signs. No photos, presumably because it's owned by a catholic uni.

The tour goes at the guide’s pace and in the order they choose, so you can’t really take your time to read or explore everything. The famous “Juanita” mummy is actually just a copy, and even though it’s not the real one, they still keep it inside a sort of freezer — which also doesn’t make much sense. N.B. We didn’t actually visit - just wanted to say as we found it difficult to see from the website - a tour is mandatory (free; you pay the guide what you think at the end), you cannot visit and walk around alone. The tours are group tours, in different languages several times a day. I couldn’t see a way to book tickets or view the times in advance online. Also, I had read that Juanita is not displayed for a few months of the year as she has to be preserved. I can’t remember the period but I am certain it wasn’t for September. However when we got there we were told she wasn’t on display. For these reasons I believe it is best to go there in the morning and see what times are on offer for you to visit, and whether Juanita is on display, then you can plan your day.

I waited 15 minutes for the next tour. The guide was very nice and provided a lot of information during the museum tour. Unfortunately, ‘Juanita’ was not there, only a model, but that was fine too.

Mundo Alpaca was a pleasant surprise! We learned a lot about the clothing industry that uses Alpaca and Llamas fiber and the way the company - Michell y Cía is doing great work not only in producing clothing but also great work with local communities helping them grow, building schools and creating other social and environment projects. The entrance is free and you can even visit the store and buy some really high quality clothing items.

Make sure you go in on the right hand side not through the shop. Some nice information and a few alpacas but they were in the back two out of three times. The shop has a very extensive selection of 100% alpaca clothes with a wide selection of colours for both men and women. The cafe is a great place to take in the beautiful garden. The fruit smoothie was a little under whelming. Needs more flavour but the chocolate cake which is the only option was good. If you are lucky! You'll see the resident cat asleep in the shop 🐈

Free museum in a beautiful garden with different species of trees. You learn tons about the history of Alpaca breeding through the civilisations, as well as the wool industry. There's a small pen with llamas and alpacas, which you can pet and feed bunches of alfalfa supplied by the friendly staff. The establishment includes an art installation, a café and a store where you can browse baby alpaca & vicuña wool clothing items. A truly lovely experience.

Lovely sanctuary for cameloids. Guide was very knowledgeable. It seems it was a sanctuary for people during Covid. They sell beautiful handmade textiles

Our guide lead us to this place, we were able to feed some alpacas and make amazing pictures. There is a museum attached to it which shares the culture and knowledge of these animals. There is also a shop where you can buy high quality alpaca clothes. But they pricey.

It's a small museum about alpaca, sharing how the alpaca wool is processed, and it's also interesting to feed the alpaca here. No entrance ticket needed.

This is a free place to see some llama and read about them and how they are able to weave it into clothing. It’s a nice place to stop and learn about this process.

Visitors from Canada who love to dance but likely 20 - 30 years older than the crowd. Lovely, welcoming environment!! If you love to dance, you will be welcomed! We went twice and had an amazing time each night. If you want to experience some nightlife and dance music in Arequipa, add La Casona Fórum to your itinerary❤️

We had lots of fun. The nice thing about this place is that it has 3 floors with different type of music. 3rd floor is 80s type. 2nd floor was salsa and 1st floor was all modern or today's music. The only thing I disagree with, was that in order to get a table on the 3rd floor, you had to order a bottle of wine. REALLY? We did order enough drinks to make it worth but unless you order a bottle you can't get a table.

Fancy place, three floors and kind of big so it takes a while to get full and to create a fun ambience (around 00.30) but then it's very nice and safe. However, I expected more people to actually dance salsa and bachata. And people are smoking inside.

As a student I paid 5 sol, I got a guided tour of the cathedral, the museum and the bell tower. It was spectacular! No pictures were allowed in the museum but some pieces were breathtaking, I highly recommend. The bell tower had a fantastic view of the Plaza de Armas! Throughout the tour Percy, our tour guide, spoke Spanish to others in my group but changed to speak English to me and my sister. He was amazing!!

Nice cathedral with good views from the rooftop. You must have a guide before you can enter so do have to wait for that but the guide is good. I’d prefer (and recommend) a fixed fee ticket price including the guide to make it more transparent.

Ten soles for the ticket and whatever you want to pay for the mandatory tour. The guide only delivered the tour in Spanish but he was immensely friendly, knowledgeable and humorous. They take you to the museum (no photos or videos) and the rooftop. Absolutely worth the time and money and then some.

Worth visiting. Not being used to hold regular mass except for special occassions, same as the Lima cathedral that been turned into a museum. Need to enter the museum to view the interior of the cathedral. The entrance is on the left side. The ticket to museum is accompanied by a guide. Beautiful architecture. No picture taking on the gold and silver collections at the exhibits. Youll be able to climb on the roof deck to see the bell towers and the views of the mountains and volcano surrounding Arequipa.

This is a nice place to grab drinks. George was our server and was very attentive and friendly. He even offered us a sampling of pisco, and explained the distillation process and the different types of grapes that are used to make pisco. We didn’t order food but ordered drinks only. We had the Chombita and the Sucio. Drinks were smooth and well crafted. Definitely recommend!

Museo del Pisco is not only in Arequipa but also in Lima and Cusco, so you have several opportunities to visit. There, you can order various types of coktails made with pisco. We decided us for the Fina Estampa for 9.00 USD. You can definitely taste the difference compared to the all-day happy hour Pisco Sours for $3.50 USD. Whether it’s worth the extra cost, though, is up to you.

I can not recommend this place. The drinks are okay, but much more expensive than in the bars of the neighbourhood. The ambiente is inviting, but we were rather disappointed of the service. Preparing our four cocktails took almost ten minutes, although we were practically the only guests. When I said that I wanted to pay, it again took some time in which the waitress was talking to a colleague. In the act of credit card paying she asked for a tip and although I signalled that I did not want that she added ten percent. This is a no-go!

They have a great selection of drinks, remember that’s it’s only Pisco drinks. No food to munch on. But the pisco drinks we tried were amazing!!!!

We did the make a pisco sour experience behind the bar. It was so funny, especially because we do not speak Spanish but they made it work and we made a great pisco sour. George and William were so friendly and made the experience so fun and interesting. Would recommend to do when visiting Arequipa - for 45soles it is an experience and you get a great quality pisco sour as well! We did not eat any food so I can't comment on that but menu looked great!

Wonderful array of pisco drinks. We went two nights in a row! We started with the classics (pisco sour and the pisco punch) and then embraced recommendations of the staff. The standout was the piconaso, a spicy (described by our waiter as a four out of ten on the scale) and acidic cocktail that was a hit with everyone. Definitely worth a visit!

It was a very cozy place to have a few bites and drinks. The owner of the place is the guy from Seattle. I got to meet and chat with him. He came up to our table and talked a bit about pisco and gave us lots of recommendations as to what places to visit and what to try. I would definitely recommend this place. There is another one (original and bigger one) in Cusco.

In Arequipa for a Friday night and went to this bar at 12. They shut the door in our face and said they were at capacity. We waited outside for a little to see if they would let us in as people left. However we watched while they let other people in by name and wouldn’t even acknowledge us

I entered the bar thinking that I would use the restroom and grab a drink, but a very nasty lady ran in front of me blocking me from the bathroom telling me she was closing. Not sure if she was the bartender or what- basically wouldn’t let me use the bathroom. They definitely weren’t closing because it was still early. Incredibly rude and seemed bias to tourist clientele - I wouldn’t go back. Also the floor was basically falling apart and in really rough condition.

Little corner bar, not far off main square. Just a little unpretentious Peruvian pub, with some beers of note. We had the Black Jesus stout, which I chose from its name alone. We drank the pub out of all their stock of that. Well recommenced.

The guys know the menu very well as they can recommend you a beer for your taste. Food is amazing and the portions are good. Very awesome place to come for some craft beer. They have an amazing craft beer selection that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else in Peru. Unfortunately the prices tell that story. If you are a craft beer lover like me then it hits the spot but it is not a budget friendly option to grab a drink. Food and vibe are on point though!

A cool place with an impressive collection of draft and bottled beers. Many more beer varieties are in their fridge. They offer flights of 4 beers of your choosing.

Great selection of craft beers, you could find anything from lager to potter. Amazing service by one of the bartenders, he was called Felix. He made us feel welcomed and he gave us some tips to walk around and guide us to find a fantastic restaurant to eat the next day. Cool decoration on the walls and they were playing music that cheers you up.

A good selection of Peruvian beers I probably wouldn't be able to find otherwise. My favourite was one they make themselves. Good burger, great fries. All of the staff were super nice and helpful. I especially enjoyed the variety of burger and fry sauces.

We stayed at LeFoyer for about 5 nights , the hotel is amazing and the service was above and beyond . They offered a ceviche class for free. The class was handled by Abel who is an excellent chef . He showed us how to make ceviche step by step and also how to make pisco sour! We loved the class. Thank you Abel , you’re the best!

Sunset Rooftop Bar is just great. It was the first place we tried lomo saltado, and while the dish itself was delicious, we weren’t huge fans of it being served with pasta. However, I truly appreciated the vegetarian options, which allowed me to enjoy a version of the dish. The view and atmosphere are fantastic, and the prices are unbeatable. The only small downside was the coca tea – it would have been better made with real leaves instead of instant, but that’s just a minor detail.

Super fun Pisco Sour workshop! We got to try various infusions and got to make our own Pisco Sours! Would highly recommend!

We did a ceviche making workshop on the terrace and it was amazing. We were well taken care of, the class was excellent, and the food we made was delicious. I'd recommend this to anyone in Arequipa.

The pisco sour with coca leaf was great, very fancy with the smoke as well. The sunset was beautiful. Above all, the bartender girl was so friendly. It was the best service I had had in Peru

It’s located in a hostal called El Foyer so you don’t see the restaurant sign from the street (easy to miss). But the place is absolutely amazing, very neat design with small lights and an a great vibe all around. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food tasted awesome. They also have good wifi and you get the menus from a barcode (one of the pictures). Very reasonable prices, and great drinks. Recommend checking it out!

I walked up here from my hotel because I needed a walk. I was pleased I did. It was a lovely afternoon and there were lots of people. Nice little tourist stalls, bars, restaurants and heladería. I had a limonada up on Las Terrazas. There’s a nice little park too.

Nice place to stay for a little while. It is close to Arequipa's main square, and some tours take you there. You can find an impressive view of a volcano and a lot of "queso helado". Just bare in mind that it can be full of tourists and there is not a lot of space

This is one of the most popular sites on Arequipa, because of the view of the three volcano's and one of the places who have his traditional dessert QuesoHelado. I recommend and all the local community I think too go this place

Great selection of Belgian beers, plenty of them on tap. While the overall interior is fitting for a craft beer bar and stylish, the seating area could’ve been arranged in a comfier way. Still one of the best choices in Arequipa if you like Belgian beer and are in the mood to try out some different lagers, blondes, triples, IPAs, etc.

4.5/5 stars. Nice vibe, beautiful panoramic views of the city & surrounding mountains. Service was friendly if a bit slow, they were pretty busy when our large party arrived but fit us in on the rooftop! The lomo saltado was 10/10 delicious, the cuy was crispy, if an acquired taste, but the Sudado de Lomo was lacking in flavor, would not recommend

One of the best views in Arequipa. Modern roof bar with the touch of the local glamour. Not easy to find. Go thought doors to first floor restaurant at Plaza del Armaz and then up up up!!! Get luck.

The food was bland. The chicha morada was from a powder mix or something. There are very few seats with a view to the Plaza. Also the toilets are very much in the open? We could smell toilet cleaner from our seats. Do not recommend.

We had the wonderful opportunity to interact with one of the nuns to buy some cookies and to chat a little. All through a revolving "door", we didn't see each other, but could hear/be heard with no problem. If you visit the Monastery's museum, visiting the nun's "little store" is a must!

Beautiful! It is way smaller than Santa Catalina convent, but this one feels cosy and the museum is also very interesting. They have beautiful rare pieces of art. Also, the patio is beautiful and a quiet place to rest and enjoy. A must go! Entrance fee is 20 soles, but you can go on the 16th day of every month and you will get a 2x1 fee (10 soles each, if you buy two tickets).

The second day trying to visit this place with no result. It’s closed. No matter it’s morning or evening. The last time we came at 4:26pm. The main door was open, but the rest are closed.

I'm still in awe with the spiritual treasures kept in this monastery, especially the frescoes at the Orange Grove enclosure. It truly transports you to the colonial past and monastic life.

Try to catch the sunset at outside of the Arequipa Cathedral door - it’s stunning! The night view of the plaza is very nice as well.

Beautiful plaza! I was here the day before Arequipa’s 485th anniversary and festivities were happening. Plenty of restaurants and photo opportunities all around. Along with the basilica next door, this makes for a great visit!

Great idea to do if you are in Arequipa. General overview: Center of the city. Gives you a view of the cathedral when it’s closed to the public. So less people. A tour around the museum looking at old religious bits. Fairly interesting The history of the earthquake that meant they had to rebuild some of the church. Rooftop view of the city and the 3 volcanos. Practical bits: Cash only tickets 10sol per person Also strong recommended that you pay the guide - others have said 5 sol. We have 5USD for two, as we did not have any sol at the time. (they make a bit of a point about saying they are not paid, and rely on tips) If you get a good guide, which we did, and just 4 of us in the group. Really good tour. Recommended even just for the roof top views!

Worth visiting. Ticket comes with an inhouse guide. Museum entrance is at the left. The museum includes access to tje church interior, roofdeck, and belltowers. No picture taking of the church's gold and silver collections at the galleries. The exit will lead you at the back lined with different cafes and dinning options.

The tour guides weren’t very enthusiastic and kept harping me for a tip at the end which I found unprofessional. The church was beautiful and a good way to spend an afternoon. Incredible views of the 3 volcanoes on the roof.

This beautiful barroque church from the early 17th century is totally worth visiting. We visited in early May between 3:15-3:45pm and the light made the place even more magical!

Start the visit with the adjacent cloister and finish with the basilica. It is part of the Unesco patrimony. It's construction started in 1590 and took about a century to be completed. As Arequipa is in a seismic zone with frequent earthquakes, the basilica had to follow a special design with robust arched vaults and small windows.

We didn’t see a great deal of this church. There is a cloister which is given over to retail an d food, then an entrance room with a magnificent carved wooden dome. It would be better if you could also visit the Church itself, which we were unable to do.

Great place to eat! The atmosphere is amazing and very on theme, location is awesome. Both the interior design and the garden was well thought out. The service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. The food was excellent, the portions weren’t the biggest but the flavours were some of the best we’ve had. The roasted cauliflower was STUNNING, as were the cauliflower tiki and the ravioli. If we had time we would have been back.

Went twice and had very different experiences. Firstly the restaurant is extremely busy and popular but this can cause long wait times. The restaurant is extremely beautiful and the food is amazing but we waited 45 minutes for a main course which I finished before my husbands main arrived. Over all took about 1hr which is slow. Otherwise, great staff, nice atmosphere and probably worth the wait just make sure you aren't starving.

I’m fussy with lasagne but enjoyed it here. Not mamas level at all but I enjoyed! Had a nice glass of Malbec and draft beer good also. Super friendly service and busy place. Kitchen closes around 22:40.

Absolutely delicious food and drinks! Highly recommend the rye garlic bread with cheese sauce and the ossobussco lasagna. The roasted cauliflower was also very good. Don't skip out on the house made soda and Perkins sodas!

Everything took a really, really long time to come as well, but the ambience and food went some way to making up for it. The food was delicious, though - really tasty and large portions. Definitely make sure you try the agnolotti, it’s divine. I really want to give it 5 stars for the food - but the service was incredibly slow and they also forgot to serve us our drinks entirely, we had to ask for them twice. We also asked to be moved to an empty table as we were sat facing the winter air - but they slapped a “Reservado” sign on it…after we asked. If you’re in a rush I suggest going when it’s quiet!

I have lived in Peru for two years and this was the single worst dining experience I've ever had. As the only Asians in the restaurant, the treatment we received was so shockingly bad it felt like blatant discrimination. From the start, the staff ignored us for the waitlist until I had to demand a spot. Then, our food order was "lost." After we re-ordered, the food still never came, even as tables that arrived long after us were served. We asked our waiter for an update three times and were completely ignored each time. When we finally gave up and tried to leave, they tried to silence us with a free dessert and a manager condescendingly calling the entire disaster a "mistake." This wasn't one mistake; it was a consistent pattern of humiliating neglect. This experience was unacceptable and ruined our evening. Save your money and your dignity. Do not eat here.

20 years ago it's a great touristique point of Arequipa gastronomía...now it's just an restorant with big problèmes of logístic and management. Ok i'm going when an university event prívate a part of restorant but that not a raison to put in a side the others clients with only 2 boys for the service...1h20 after my order, nothing comming, so i live the restorant with out eat something...the manager never apologies but they do great service for the university event. I never comeback at this place.

Update for 2024: Based on my great experience I went again, but I was disappointed. The food felt like a 4 instead of a 5. Specially Rocoto relleno was not up to the price standard, you can find lots of better options. Service was a 3 with waiting times and acting in a rush. 2020: Excellent flavor in their food, it’s incredible the quality of the food, the food sorprised me even being peruvian. Irecommend to try the "Rocoto Relleno", "Adobo" and "Chupe de camarones".

I visited the restaurant on a weekday, and it was consistently busy with customers. However, despite the crowd, the service was excellent. I ordered the grilled chicken with mushrooms, and it was absolutely delicious. They also offer a variety of traditional dishes. Just a word of caution, if you arrive late, particularly after 2:30 pm, you may not find a menu available. They usually offer a soup of the day as a starter, followed by a second dish. Additionally, this restaurant is known for its "queso helado," a unique ice cream that is popular in Arequipa. Lastly, it's worth mentioning that if it happens to be your birthday, they will give you a complimentary treat.

This is a nice place to eat at whether you're a tourist or a local. It has a varied menu with local dishes. It also has a few things to see which speak to the culture and sites in the area. We had a big group without a reservation and they were able to accomodate. The service was a bit evasive. There was no wifi. A few things I asked for on the menu weren't available. The coffee i asked to come before the meal came after the meal. It was also instant which was disappointing. Not too much juice came in the pitcher. The food was ok. A little dry for me. The corn cake was huge and totally shareable. Loved it.

Collectively, we came here as a group and sat upstairs on the balcony to watch over the Plaza de Armas. We started with pisco sours of course, but some of the guys had beers which were refreshingly cold. The menu was extensive and so much to choose from. The vegetarians in the group were happy because of the variety of salads and the staff were happy to change the menu slightly for them. Certainly the avocado stuffed with vegetables was delicious (see photo). The meat and fries with small salad was pretty good with the meat cooked well and not tough. As always, the quinoa soup was tasty. Portion sizes were generous and overall we had a wondeful afternoon. Note that the staff were very helpful but we did have a guide. They were eager to please and made sure our food was brought out quickly. Thank you. Not wheelchair friendly if dining upstairs. Kid friendly. Dietaries can be catered for if you can let them know what you're after.

stopped by this quaint restaurant near the countryside in arequepa Peru. we were on a bus tour and stopped here for lunch. we had very nice local beer and appetizers. we sat outside and listened to live local musicians playing guitars. very good portions and again at a really great price. would definitely go back!

A must when you visit Arequipa! A fourth of the monastery can be visited, 12 nuns live in the other 3/4 of the monastery. We recommend you take a guided tour. The entrance is 20 soles per person and an extra 20 soles for the guide, totally worth it. The cloister area was perfect to enjoy the cookies we bought from the nuns before going into the museum. The painted chapel is unusual and rather beautiful, and the Christmas Chest (a sort of Christmas diorama) was fun too. The cloister is calm and very pretty

Went just after they opened so it was very quiet. Lovely museum very informative with all the info in both Spanish and english. I did not have a tour guide but available should you want one. Very calm and peaceful atmosphere if not a little eerie sometimes.

One of the best museums I've been to in a while. The most beautiful collections of paintings from the 16,17's centuries. The working monestary is so well kept. The artifacts are so well preserved. The whole place is just beautiful! Loved it. And you would too!. Good English speaking guide. Its worth paying a little extra . With the guide you get a better understanding of the history of the monestary.

It's just one big claustro to visit with many rooms and great pieces exposed. You'll get to see the church from two exclusive point of views (the one of the sisters living in the Covent. It's definitely not santa Catalina, but for 20 soles (+10 for the guide for your group) you will not regret it !

A decent stop although a bit of a weird mix of items, from stuffed animals to different country's currencies. The library was beautiful and the grounds were fine but not as well maintained as some other places, but it's a decent, shorter stop.

Nice collection of pre Colombian ceramics, textiles and artifacts. Very interesting historical Franciscan monastery. Very good view from the bell tower if you have the courage to take the 4 story spiral stairs. The entrance fee as of July 2024 is 15 soles efectivo only.

Underrated! This museum has a surprisingly diverse collection, from pre-columbian art and religious pieces to coins, toys and even animals. The courtyards are beautiful and peaceful, I only met a few other visitors there. Don't miss the second floor, there's a really unique library up there and you can even climb the church tower for panoramic views 🌟

Nearly walked away after ringing the bell twice but it was worth the wait. There are so many gardens, galleries, historic coins, the church itself, the gallery and the bell tower which I recommend if you aren't scared of heights.

We had an amazing time at this museum. It is very cheap in price only, there is a wealth of interesting artefacts to discover inside. Even without the exhibition the monastery would be worth looking at. I personally especially enjoyed seeing how the monks lived and would like to thank the super friendly guy at the reception (Friday Nov. 8) who took the time to personally explain some instruments and share some interesting facts.

A must visit in my opinion. 15 soles entrance fee. If you’re feeling adventurous, climb up the bell tower.

This is an underrated gym in Arequipa. It is a former monastery, turned museum with both religious and archaeologic artifacts. Fascinating I can relics including fabrics, ceramics, etc. Definitely worth the entrance fee

I loved this museum - it was like stepping through different movie sets and the lighting was superb. I was the only visitor, which made me think it’s under appreciated. The videos were high quality and the guide was excellent. It does help to have read some of Mario Vargas Llosa’s work. If not it might inspire you - he’s a Nobel prize winner and deeply humanitarian author. However some works are more accessible than others and many deal with difficult subject matter. Maybe start with Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, which is very funny and brilliantly captures the vibe in 1950s Miraflores, Lima. In fact, reading his work inspired me to visit Peru!

Amazing experience. The museum is mostly and audio/visual tour of Vargas Llosa's life. However, it is done with different rooms set up to represent times and themes in his life. For example, one room is the inside of a Lima street car. Of course, there are lots of mementos, photos, and copies of his book. And the museum has his real Nobel medal. (They give every winner two of those.) The tours are only in Spanish. The woman who gave most of our tour spoke very clearly, however. The one member of our group with the lowest level of Spanish understood much of what she said.

The tour and videos are all in Spanish so I'd say you need an intermediate level of Spanish to visit the museum. The guide led me through the house and in each room there is a video giving some information. Most of the rooms are dimly lit and I was alone on my tour so I felt slightly uncomfortable throughout. Some creative exhibits though.

Selective, sycophantic and hagiographic. An unfortunate interactive format that, at some points, did not work and was just distracting. There is essentially nothing left of his home - all has been converted into a Disneyworld pastiche, in the service of the technology. An early low point was the virtual recreation of the moment of his birth (!!) that largely set the tone for the rest of the visit. Hard to imagine a more self-serving glorification. It did not inspire any of us to want to know more, much less read any of his work. Happy to leave and escape the embarrassment.

Be careful - there a lots of fake reviews regarding the museum from bot profiles from India and Pakistan. There is very little information online, only that it closes at 4 pm. We arrived at 3.01 pm. The gates were locked. They accepted our entrance as they saw we were foreigners - they seem to grant some kind of preference to foreigners to the detriment of Peruvians, which seems kind of crazy. It all seemed very improvised, and the place seems kind of abandoned. They dont provide change for cash payments. Do not waste your time.

Very unique experience with many types of media about the life of the author. The museum was personally created by himself. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Do not miss when you are in Arequipa!

Loved the terrace and the food was amazing. It is a bit more American, but I liked it. The special coffees were amazing and the size of the cakes were awesome! Loved our time here and we came back three times.

This was a nice flat white, nothing more to say really, just slightly above average. The views were great from the rooftop terrace, and the place has free wifi. Just the price of the coffee is a little more than the average in the area from my experience.

It took an hour to get our food. The place wasn’t busy so the hour long wait did not feel well warranted and we were given no warning of the kitchen being backed up. We got the vegetarian rocoto rellano and asked for it to be as spicy as possible. Not only was it not spicy, but it was essentially flavorless. Certainly not worth waiting an hour for.

The restaurant is well located in nice ambient. This is all positive that can be said about it, though. Service was slow although there were only 5 visitors. Food came cold and badly prepared almost not eatable. I made a complaint to the owner but he did not seem to care, he even laughed at me.

This place is terrible, the food is unseasoned they don't even have milk. I got immediately sick from it. They even messed up coffee, how do you mess up a coffee? Also there was a very long hair in my chaufa. 0.1 out of 10. Don't come here.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in the country. We ordered one dish (vegetarian rocoto relleno), and waited over an hour for it to come out. We were very hungry by the time it came out and had to ask the waitress to check on the food before it came out (and it miraculously came out moments after we asked). We’ve had 4-5 vegetarian rocotos, and this was by far the worst one. There was no flavor, no spice, and the vegetables tasted raw. The papas were also unflavored. We specifically ordered the rocoto to be spicy, and there was still absolutely no flavor. To make things worse, my stomach started feeling upset soon after we started eating it. Overall, every part of the meal (service, portion, flavor) was a great disappointment and we will not be returning.

French people (and other) don’t go there. I was expecting to have a glass of good wine while watching sunset. I was the only person there, I was not able to download the menu because they don’t have WiFi, and I was served the only wine they had by the cup which was terrible.

It is a great place for a snack and a drink. We had the alpaca plate, wine and other drinks. They also offer piscoffee, a coffee with a shot of pisco. The view and atmosphere inside the historic building is great.

Wow!!! I’m so amazed at this restaurant!! 🤩 Not only was the food delicious with great portions, the views were to die for! They had a page of gluten free options, which is always appreciated:) Also the staff was beyond kind. They brought us blankets when we were cold from the evening wind and they checked in on us to plan when each part of the meal should arrive. They were just so lovely and sweet ❤️

We came here in the evening for a light supper and hot chocolate and it was so marvellous. I’m gluten free and vegan and I was looking forward to enjoying a smoothie bowl. The hot chocolate was also incredible and they have a lot of different options. The staff were so friendly and chatty (despite our poor Spanish), they really made it a lovely experience. To get there ring the bell on the door step and follow the very narrow stairs up to the top. Its an amazing place and the views are wonderful. We got an empanada to take away too! Nice selection of drinks and desserts. We had a chocolate drink and a brownie both tasted good. This cafe located on top of a building near the Monasterio so it has a very good view of the mountains. The entry of the building is quite hidden you have to really looking for the sign of Mi Kcao Chocolates y Cafe or you’ll miss it.

The coffee and chocolate here are absolutely amazing. I tried chocolate with Pisco for the first time in my life, and it was incredibly good — such a unique flavor combination. The terrace view is simply astonishing, with Misti Volcano rising in the distance and the Santa Catalina Monastery just below. What else do you need in Arequipa? This is a must-visit spot if you want to unwind, read a book, and relax while enjoying authentic native Peruvian products. I also joined their chocolate making workshops and learn about the entire cacao process.

Good spot to get some pretty decent food and chocolate drinks. Don't sit at the cylindrical coil table. I made the mistake of putting my feet on the bottom part of it which nearly flipped the table. It has wheels on it place in a poor place further toward the center of the table rather than toward the outside of it. Thankfully only one glass of water fell and broke which I had to pay for.

The hot chocolate is amazing, very rich and not too bitter. The food is great too. I also tried the iced moca. Very much recommended! The view is beautiful, during the day and at night. You can also enjoy the sunset here.

We were very disappointed with the quality and taste of the beer. The hamburger was good, the service and atmosphere were good. Although I liked the place, I have never been to a brewery ( I’ve been to over 100) where the majority of beers offered were truly poor quality. Three out of the four beers we tried were almost undrinkable and all three of my guests agreed. In fact two guest ordered cocktails instead of a beer and they are craft beer drinkers. The stout was the only decent beer and I was the only one in our group to order a beer after tasting a flight of 4 beers. The beers flavors were flat, lacked any depth or one overwhelmed the other flavors. One important note, they were out of there most popular beer on a Friday night, another unfortunate thing. In conclusion, ai would not recommend this place for beer, but it’s a nice place to hang out with friends to enjoy so food and cocktails and great friendly service.

Great place to try unique beers, my favourite was La Razón Social made with local ingredients like red Quinoa. Not for narrow minded poser craft beer lovers who always try the same styles. The IPA was very solid as well. Great staff and ambience and I would definitely come back. Food can improve but it is still solid.

Great craft beers, pub food with a twist and a cool atmosphere both indoors and in the terrace. The staff is also very nice and knows their beers, specially Carlos! Prices are similar to other places and tap rooms although I should say with better service. In short, I recommend you try their food and drinks.

The place is a bit hidden, but I'm glad I've choosen this over the other options in the area. The food was really good, we had burgers and the fries were perfectly matched with tasty sauces. Insane burgers!! We had the beer and burger deal between 1 and 4PM for a very good price. I had the old smoked burger and my wife had the pulled pork. Both insane, some of the best burgers and beers we have ever had! Top top beers for South America too. If you’re in doubt, definitely come here!

Nice place just off the San Lazaro district, beautiful white stone alleyways. The burgers were excellent, beer and the Kombucha were great too, went well with the light house music which we liked, good service and friendly staff. Would definitely return if in the area.

The Yanahuara overlook is definitely a spot worth visiting in Arequipa. The views over the city with El Misti volcano in the background are just amazing, a perfect place for photos and to take in the scenery. The stone arches with engravings give the place a nice authentic touch and make it feel special. For us, it was a bit difficult this day since it was a public holiday and quite crowded, but even then, the atmosphere was nice and lively. If you catch it on a quieter day, I can imagine it’s even more relaxing. Overall, a beautiful place to spend some time and enjoy the view of Arequipa

Definitely worth to visit, you have an amazing view over the City with Misti behind it, it’s within walking distance of the old town but you could also take a cab there. We went there in the afternoon and in the evening, we would definitely recommend going there in the evening (supposedly the sunrise would look amazing too due to its orientation but we didn’t do that so no guaranties). It only took us about 18 minutes to go through the small galleries and we enjoyed them and took our time. The mummies were very fascinating to see. No photographs were allowed in the interior gallery of the artifacts, but the lady working told us the small section after the ancient artifacts with the bench and holy family and replica heads was ok to photograph. Only improvement I would recommend to the museum is to add a English version of the write up on more of the displays; about half had both Spanish and English language write ups, but a couple more would be neat. Overall, it’s worth a visit !

Very peaceful area. A lot of greenery and the upper levels have great views. Kids playground, bathrooms and also a little tiny mini zoo with about 5-6 exhibits. 9-5pm s/1.50 per person

Nice park to visit if you have time. There is a small fee to pay but some of the views from there are great. I found a bit sad the conditions of some of the animals that they have there. Cages are really small.

The park is really nice but the "zoo" consists of a bunch of small cages with nothing in them except for some anxious looking monkeys. The spider monkey was actually covering its eyes and anxiously rocking back and forth as people made noises at it. I'd give the park 5 stars if it wasnt for the "zoo".

It takes about five to ten minutes to walk around, the entrance is voluntary. The details of the columns are beautiful. Try to spot the references of Inca culture mixed with the Spanish culture carved in volcanic stone.

Had an afternoon tea time. Service was nice and the alfajores were amazing. Located in a cute alley!

Picked this restaurant because it’s located in a pretty and quiet side street of the Cathedral and were too hungry to look for an alternative. However we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, well at least we liked all of the items we ordered. The Chupe de Camarones were one of the best we had in Peru. The soup was rich in prawn flavor. The other main which is a penne paste-like gratin was also very good but was a bit rich. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal there.

Really unflavoured food. I had to confirm with a friend it was that bad as I had limited taste buds at the time but the amount of chile flakes we put on the food didn’t help at all and even that didn’t taste of anything. Great location though but the food needs help.

We ate here for lunch & were happy with the meal & price. We had a vegetarian sandwich with drinks. It was a reasonable price. There’s free WiFi. Plenty of other travelers if you want to swap stories.
