History Museums
Ursino Castle, a 13th-century fortress in Sicily, was built by Emperor Frederick II and remains remarkably well-preserved. The castle features all four original towers and walls, along with remnants of surrounding walls within its grounds. Visitors can explore the castle's interior to see the impressive Museo Civico, which houses royal archaeological collections, objects from a monastery, and painted carts.
It was built in the 1st half of the 13th century, intended to be used as a defensive bulwark - mainly from sea attacks. Today it is filled with bits and pieces of amazing history, art masterpieces, an area you can see restorative work on paintings. It is divided into four parts: archaeological, medieval, Renaissance, and modern, with the Benedictine and Biscari Museum collections front and center. I believe this is a must see when you visit Catania. There is a partial view of Mount Etna from the top of the castle walls. On the day we were there, they were getting ready for a concert that evening, so it looks like they host special events as well. Could have spent more time here - was wonderful.

Castello Ursino is a fascinating medieval fortress in Catania, Sicily, built in the 13th century by Emperor Frederick II. Surrounded by lava stone and rich in history, it now houses a museum with captivating art and archaeological exhibits. The mix of Norman architecture and volcanic surroundings makes it truly unique. A peaceful, historic spot that offers insight into Sicily’s complex past—definitely worth a visit when exploring Catania.
Dani B — Google review
Ursino Castle offers a rewarding blend of historical architecture and curated artifacts—ideal for those who appreciate medieval history and Sicilian culture. It’s especially suited to visitors seeking depth in a less crowded museum, but those expecting curated, modern exhibitions may find its layout and presentation modest
Chintan S — Google review
Great place to visit just before sunset, the colors work well with the site
Audrey V — Google review
Still closed, but even so the surrounding area and the outside are worth visiting. It’s almost all on volcanic rock and there are lizards, birds and wild cats all around the area. It’s a popular meeting point for tours and the area felt very safe.
Caïna V — Google review
Decent enough museum but the €6 entrance is honestly too steep. That said I enjoyed the meander around and the collection of artifacts on the ground floor. The second (first floor in the U.K.) is mostly paintings. It’s no Louvre but some are striking, such as Love and Death and the Sicilian Vespers. All captions are translated into English. Nice views of the city from the roof terrace. Have to agree that unfortunately bathrooms were gross 😷
Jennifer S — Google review
We visited Caravaggio paintings exposition and ticket lady proposed purchase also tickets to Ursino Castle for just 1 Euro more, so it was a no brainer. I think it's worth seeing and as you can see at the photos you will be able to see a lot of paintings, the whole interior of the castle and beautiful views from the top.
Dominik W — Google review
6€ per person to get in. Sort of boring to be honest, paintings and sculptures but I really wanted to see and learn about the castle. The outside and the middle part is the best. Only two vending machines on the top floor with a small seating area. Bathrooms were disgusting!

Amphitheater
Archaeological site
The Roman Amphitheater of Catania, located in Sicily, Italy, dates back to around 300 BCE and is a significant relic from the Roman Imperial period. Situated at the base of Montevergine hill, it is now partially submerged below ground level near Piazza Stesicoro. Despite being only a small section of its former grandeur, it remains an important part of Catania's ancient history.
After living and coming to Catania for 25 years, this was the first time I saw it open and was able to explore the thing. Very stunning and interesting inside, especially the darker hallway and the side room. Absolutely worth seeing if you're in Catania.
C J — Google review
Really beautifully preserved, and quite spectacular. Interesting to see neighbourhood cats have made their home among the ruins. Not for the faint hearted if you're afraid of heights!
Samantha R — Google review
You can just look into it from the outside without ticket, but that is less than 1% of this place. The ticket is 4 EUR but worths it apparently. You can explore the whole amphitheater underground. It is merged with some modern buildings, showing off very unique view from inside. The best thing is that people rarely buy the ticket. So you can enjoy your time without noise and crowd. The place is not cleaned well, though, which was the only bad thing to me. There were many wastes seemed thrown from the open above. I spared some time gathering the wastes for easier cleaning of staffs' :) Actually, this place gave me the best experience in Catania. I wish you have a chance to explore it fully with a ticket.
김동석 — Google review
The ruins you can see from the surface are 10% of the whole structure. The visit is worth for the price (4€), and the panels help you understand how the amphitheater was in the past, but you'll enjoy it more with some previous information.
Tagaloc — Google review
Well I liked Catania as a city. The amphitheatre can be viewed from the road. It's a part of but gives a great impression of what the whole would look like.
Gary B — Google review
It doesn't look like much from above, but when you go in (which costs only about €4) you get to walk through some of the preserved superstructure of this Roman amphitheatre, which is now underground. It's worth a visit if you have 30 mins to spare.
Tom B — Google review
Very well presented ruins, very easy to get to and see and photograph for free from street level. You can buy a ticket to walk through the ruins, but this part is not handicapped friendly.
Kevin M — Google review
Magnificient monument. The ticket is €6 but you can also see from above

Yoga studio
Centro Yoga Catania - Kamla Yoga is a serene sanctuary nestled in the heart of Catania, offering an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This charming studio provides a variety of yoga classes, including vinyasa and yin, perfect for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. Attendees rave about the warm atmosphere created by Alida, whose passion for teaching shines through her insightful guidance.
I had amazing experience with Kamla Yoga. I joined for three classes pass during visiting Catania and enjoyed it a lot. Very nice and calm studio and Alida is a wonderful teacher who made sure I feel welcome and I can follow the class so we also switched to English. I hope to visit again.🙏🏻
Tereza K — Google review
Yoga language is universal 💙 I had a really beautiful experience in this studio. I attended a hatha yoga class with Alida and even though the class was led in Italian, I could easily follow everything. Alida was very inclusive and also included English cues in the flow and I felt great being a part of this group. It was a nice experience to practice in another language. Thank you for a beautiful visit, I recommend to visit this place for a little inner break on your travels in Sicily :)
Anesa I — Google review
Alida is that rare thing in a yoga teacher.. insightful and passionate, professional and dedicated to giving her students her time and undivided attention. The inner radiance retreat was the perfect balance of yoga and fun. Time for relaxation and connecting with other participants. I particularly enjoyed getting to meet the local yogis attending her studio and practicing my Italian! 🇮🇹 Looking forward to the next one 🙏🏻
Inma M — Google review
Dear Alida, I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for yet another incredible Yoga teacher training. This is not the first time I’ve had the pleasure of learning from you, but each experience with you feels unique and transformative. The energy, knowledge, and atmosphere you create go far beyond a simple course—they touch so many senses and layers of life. Your ability to teach, inspire, and enchant is truly unparalleled, and I leave each training with a deeper understanding and a renewed spirit. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for creating such a nurturing and magical space for us to grow. I feel immensely grateful to have you as a guide on this journey.
Elisa B — Google review
Kamla Yoga automatically feels like home. Alida is a grounded teacher and tuned to the needs of the individuals in her class. I've been in the Yoga/Ayurveda world in California for over 20 years and Kamla Yoga more than meets my expectations for what I consider to be a good class. Plus, Alida speaks English.
Shreya S — Google review
Going to Cantania I searched on Google to find a place to do yoga. Kamla Yoga came up. A wonderful oasis in the city. I went to four yoga classes. Every time I got a very warm welcome, the atmosphere was very relaxed and wonderful and the yoga? The best - vinyasa and yin - just what I needed. Hope to go back one day or to attend one of Alida’s retreats🙏
Mette B — Google review
Last week I went to the vinyasa yoga class and even though I don’t speak any Italian, I had a really good time here. Alida the teacher, was so helpful and accomodating. The flow was really nice (and quite strenuous!!), and during it I just look what other people were doing, which worked quite well. I was also offered to get more instructions in English in case I couldn’t keep up, but I have a few years yoga experience so it wasn’t a big problem. For Savasana, the end relaxation, Alida even translated what she was saying to English so I could have a better experience, which I really appreciated. And by the end of the class i even recognized the words for inhale and exhale and breathe, so even learned a bit of Italian haha. Another point I really want to highlight were the other yogis in the class. I didn’t feel like the odd one out and everyone seemed so welcoming and nice towards me which made my experience here just really enjoyable and I will definitely be back to Kamla yoga when I come to Catania again !!
Michèle R — Google review
I just attended the Inner Radiance Retreat hosted by Alida and Krisztina in the beautiful Kamla Yoga studio. I absolutely loved everything about it: The beautiful and calming yoga shala, a truely peaceful place within Catania's busy city center. The amazing yoga sessions and a very unique meditation experience. The other girls I got to meet during the retreatnand of course Alida's warmth and kindness as a host, who made this retreat so special. I will definitely come back. ❤️
