Parkside Pools and Gym, located on Gonville Place in Cambridge, offers excellent swimming facilities including a main pool divided into lanes for general swimming, a shallow pool for children and learners, and a diving pool. The facility also houses an extensive gym. Visitors appreciate the spaciousness of the pools which allows for a more enjoyable swimming experience. Some have noted that the toddler pool is basic with limited entertainment options but overall found the facility clean and staff friendly.
It's okay, there are two pools one for laps one for kids playing, the temperature and cleanliness of the pools are great, the flumes or slides are fun and stable and reasonably clean. Good for all ages and abilities and the staff are all very nice 👍 The changing rooms are questionable in size and sanitation but okay, I recommend flip flops or pool socks though... Gyms all good quality equipment and nicely lay out, although it's small. Changing rooms for girls is small and there's not much privacy in there. Overall good 👍 Prices are okay as well Fun special events eg cancer research fundraisers are great for kids day out!

Flumes were fun. The toddler pool was fun, but closed for over half of the session. The main pool was lane only with a small section for all swims. The diving pool was shallow, and they only have the boards open for classes or special bookings and unfortunately for us we could only use half of this pool as they had a kids party in the other half. So basically, for 2 adults and 3 young children, it meant we got 50 minutes of swimming in just half of the diving pool... Not great!
Peter G — Google review
We booked a 10am swim on Bank Holiday Monday, with our two children. On arrival, the diving pool was shut, with the one 'Swim For All' Lane packed full of families, swimming. We took our 18 month old into the toddler pool, which was also busy. At 10.15, everyone in the toddler pool was told to leave the pool as it was shutting. This was not expected and not ideal as it meant the only other option was the freezing cold and very busy 'Swim For All' Lane. We asked the lifeguard why they had an entire pool shut when it was evidently really busy - he explained that it's a private use pool and so "it must be booked by somebody, at some point". By 10.17, we decided the main pool was too cold for our 18month old and so my wife got changed with him. She tried asking the manager about why they close the toddler pool (on a bank holiday, when the pool is full of families) and only have 1 Lane open for a BH Monday 'Swim For all' and he explained that "it's worked like that for years" and that we should have made an additional booking for the 'toddler pool' when booking the 'swim for all', as that would have given us timed access to both pools. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing trip and would have been better value to have driven the additional half an hour to Bury St Edmunds. It appears you're expected to book each individual pool that you want to enter and that the overview of this is managed by what colour wristband you're given on arrival. This isn't clear by the online booking page, especially when you've not been to the pool for 5 years and so are not familiar with the layout and running of the room. It was also disappointing that the approach to customer service by lifeguards and management, was one that gave an impression that they didn't really care, nor had any control over the running or management of the pool, which they kept referring back to their website and what this told them to do.
Dan E — Google review
The pool is fine, there’s the main one and a smaller one which is also used for diving but they lift the floor and it’s a younger child pool. The baby pool is tiny. All the pools felt bit cold which is not unusual for this area unfortunately my 9 month old was shivering in the baby pool which was the warmest one but once he started kicking around seemed okay. The changing rooms absolutely stink and that is the reason we won’t go back because I couldn’t stand it and the changing rooms were slimy on the floor and we struggled changing with no clean baby changer to use so had to hold him and get us all dry and dressed which took a lot time in that smell. On the plus the flumes were really fun though! There is a cafe but we didn’t use.
Heather S — Google review
Good pool and overall building. The changing rooms smelled very strange though. Relatively expensive for an hour swim priced at £7.50 but not too bad.
Zoe C — Google review
The pool is very dirty, there is sand and all sorts of weird things in the water, and I have already gotten sick (gastroenteritis) three times in the past two months, each time after swimming here. The lifeguards are friendly but they don't do anything about people who go into the slow lane but swim too fast and overtake in dangerous ways. I've seen several collisions already. Shower room is often flooded and there is hair everywhere. I'll stop going as soon as it's warm enough to swim in the outdoor pools elsewhere.
Shuk C — Google review
I’m not one to give reviews but I Went with my 1 year old today as it looked fun online. The separation from the men’s and women’s changing rooms are confusing and it almost felt mixed. The changing rooms were dirty & many of the locks to the stalls were broken. The biggest issue was how dirty the toddler pool was. God knows what was at the bottom of the pool… the whole place smelt really bad too.
Ally R — Google review
Please fix this gym - I don’t want to leave! It used to be my favorite in Cambridge, largely due to the wonderful trainers - Roji and Steph. I’m now considering changing for two reasons: 1. The gym is meant to shut at 10 PM but staff have stopped entry at 9 PM. I work late and signed up originally because advertised times are till 10 PM! This feels like a breach of contract and was never communicated to us. It has never happened at any other gym I’ve been to. The receptionist was rude to me when I arrived after 9 and tried to enter. 2. Cleanliness. For example - the treadmills desperately need a clean - a few treadmill screens have the SAME grime in the corners that they had in 2023. I wish I was making this up. I’ll take a photo next time.

Jesus Green Lido is a historic open-air pool located in the heart of the city, offering a refreshing swimming experience for both locals and visitors. Built in the 1920s, this unheated outdoor pool spans an impressive 91 meters, making it one of the longest in Europe. The spacious grassy and paved areas surrounding the pool provide ample space for sunbathing and picnicking, creating a perfect setting for a day out with family or friends.
This is such a fabulous facility. Being a Long poll it gives a different experience from a standard indoor or 25m pool. Unheated other than by the sun. Great changing and shower facilities, toilets, friendly staff. A really good place to have some longer swim practice plus it’s shallow at both ends so no deep end issues that some people experience. The whole place is amazing. Clean and well looked after, just great. We travel 70 miles each way to visit it, it’s that good! In the winter it is cold but amazing, if you are a cold water swimmer it’s the best!
Emma G — Google review
This is a HUGE (90m) unheated outdoor pool by the side of the river. Parking nearby is limited and entails either a walk across the green or across a foot bridge over the river to get to the lido. The pool temperature was around 20° (displayed at the entrance) when we visited. There are a limited number of lockers on site, and you need to pay for a token (50p, non-refundable) at the entrance. Changing cubicles are rustic and there are limited showers/toilets, which were filthy and flooded when we were there. While the pool is a glorious and unusual swim (because of the length), and there were plenty of attendants and lifeguards, it's not especially clean - we swallowed a lot of debris while swimming (leaves, insects), and emerged from the pool to the (dirty, flooded) showers with leaves, insects and seeds in our swimwear. The pool is shallow at each end with a deep section in the middle. While this pool is definitely worth a visit for the experience of swimming super-long lengths, there are much better, and more uplifting lidos at Hitchin, Ware, or Peterborough.
Anya C — Google review
Beautiful ambience and atmosphere. If you want to do swim training, it’s better to go in the evening or on a less sunny day. The place could use some renovation, but it would need to be done very carefully so the Lido doesn’t lose its charm.
Anna B — Google review
Took my wife here for her birthday - she loved it as did I though I'm not a great swimmer. 100yards was a long way for me. Nice setting. Great value fir money. Not heated bug I didn't find it that cold.
Mark W — Google review
Fab place for a swim. It's very long at 100 yards or 91 metres. Early in the morning divided into slow, medium and fast lanes. Some of the slow lane was reserved for swimming lessons but still left around 50m available. Can pay as you go or get a discounted rates if you're a member. Sauna can be added on for a few pounds extra. Water isn't heated but wasn't too chilly, 20° on a cloudy July day. Recommend flip-flops to walk between shower and changing rooms as stone ground has leaves and other bits of trees falling on it. Café on site with coffees and snacks. Reception provide a token for the lockers or some people leave their bag on a poolside bench.
Stephen H — Google review
Fabulous place for a swim on a hot Sunday afternoon to cool down. The water isn't heated but they have the temperature on the gate just so people are aware. It was very busy with people sitting poolside soaking up the sun, or having a dip. Gave it a bash and once I put my feet in to test it out - went straight for a jump and landed right in the middle making sure I didn't land on anyone. It's definitely a long pool at 91m so swimming that distance was definitely a workout. Nice onside cafe as well and lots of changing facilities split into male and female. They do have tokens for lockers to keep your stuff safe but people do leave their bags by the pool. Will be back next summer ☀️
Ollie W — Google review
I love swimming here. Rhe changing rooms are a bit stinky and the water is chilly... The sauna is awful and can definitely be done up...! These negatives aside though it's 102 year old pool - built in 1923... Lots of charm and healthy vibes!! At 91m long - that means 11 lengths for 1001m - so fairly easy to count your distance, and measure your speed if you're a serious swimmer. I believe it's open all year round ❄️
BH ( — Google review
What a gem. I visited on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t too busy, the pool is really long at 90 ish metres, they let us use the sauna for free and the facilities were brilliant (warm showers inside and outside and clean toilets). They had a lovely looking little cafe too that I didn’t try but looked great

Public swimming pool
Nestled in the heart of the community, Abbey Leisure Complex is an ideal destination for students eager to maintain an active lifestyle while also finding time to relax. This versatile facility boasts a variety of amenities, including a 25-meter swimming pool with five lanes perfect for serious swimmers and a smaller learner pool designed for children and beginners. The complex is open daily from early morning until late evening, making it easy to fit workouts into even the busiest schedules.
Overall, this is a good place to work out. Staff are friendly and professional and they make the most of the facilities they have at this centre. They close the pool for half an hour numerous times a day to clean and this positively shows - pool area, toilets and changing rooms, gym equipment all seem to get freshened up numerous times a day. This absolutely feels like a facility for the community. Wheelchair users can be lifted into the slow lane to swim and the medium speed lane is extra wide to compensate. The small learners pool always seems animated with youngsters and accompanying adults. The gym is popular and has a lot of equipment. The music is the right volume and not annoying. Steven took great care to design a workout programme for me and it's excellent. This facility hosts the local kayak club, who practice rolls in the pool during dedicated sessions. There are tunnel slides open sometimes by the pool and a little sauna at poolside. There are often swimming lessons in one lane.Tables next to the lobby provide a place to eat snacks. There are some fitness classes that seem popular. Just be sure to check the pool times so you don't turn up to swim when it's closed for cleaning. Good work everyone, making this a vibrant fitness centre for the community.
Donna M — Google review
We booked the small pool for our daughter and us for an hour this afternoon. We were not warned on the booking interface that half the pool would be closed due to swimming lessons. The fee was the same as any other time when you have the entire small pool. A lot of parents were staring at the pool, some were taking pictures of others, not just the children. There was a parent who openly laughed about someone's full body swimming dress and took a picture of it. There was a time when there were 12 of us in the half of the small pool. It was terribly uncomfortable while the benches were full of parents. The changing room area was very cold. The water in the shower can be hardly called lukewarm, and it has to be restarted every 7 seconds. Ridiculous. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience.
Z. Z — Google review
The leisure centre as a whole is quite decent , considering it isn't that big, they've managed to pack everything in there. The pool is alright to, a bit chilly sometimes, but that's to be expected. The changing rooms can be a bit grim, but that depends on what day you go there, I've noticed anyway. The sauna is nice, but a bit small. The same goes for the gym upstairs, though it does have a fair bit of equipment in there, so I guess that kind of makes up for it. They do host different exercise classes every week day, which look exciting, and they have an outdoor exercise area for those that want a bit more peace, the place could do with a lick of paint, and maybe some modernising but overall it's good.
Bloodclart B — Google review
The pool and changing rooms are always kept in really good condition which is great. Thank you very much to the pool staff for keeping the place so well.
Katie D — Google review
The learner pool itself is a decent size. We have experienced similar problems to others on these reviews where the pool has been cold, but the staff have usually at least warned us of this before getting in. The biggest disappointment for me/my children is the slide. It seems to very rarely be open. My wife and children attended today for a homeschooling slot and the slide was advertised as being open for this. On arrival the slide was closed. When my wife asked the staff behind the desk for a reason she was told "there aren't enough people to make it worthwhile opening". Worthwhile for whom? If one family turn up and pay to use the advertised facilities then they should be opened. The member of staff said "about 15 people" need to be using the pool for it to be opened. As far as I'm aware there was no mention of this on the website. Overall I would describe this place as very average.
David S — Google review
The gym is good and has recently updated their machines however ,not the cleanest environment quite a few cobwebs and heavy dust around the equipment on the sides and on the floor , machine material is partically ripped / cut i think the cleaning of the place has room for improvement to perfect the quality of the gym

I take my son for swimming lessons here. He really enjoys it and the instructors are friendly and don't rush the lesson. Highly recommended.

Art Museums
The Fitzwilliam Museum, located on Trumpington Street in Cambridge, is a renowned destination for art and history enthusiasts. Established in 1816, the museum boasts an extensive collection of classical art and artifacts from various cultures. Visitors can explore Asian ceramics, armor, coins, paintings, and archaeological remains such as a Roman Swiss army knife and a colorful 3000-year-old Nespawershefyt coffin from Egypt.
Visiting the Museum right as it opened was a fantastic idea. We had many of the galleries to ourselves, which made the experience even more special. The collection is incredibly diverse, spanning from ancient Egyptian artifacts to masterpieces by famous painters. The building itself is a work of art, and it's a great place to spend a few hours exploring history and culture. Best of all, it's free to enter!
G S — Google review
The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge is truly a gem—and completely free! Founded in 1816 from the personal collection of Richard Fitzwilliam, it has grown into a world-class museum with stunning collections of art, antiquities, manuscripts, and decorative arts. The building itself is beautiful, with grand galleries and a light-filled central hall. Highlights include works by Turner, Monet, and Van Dyck, as well as fascinating Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts. Every corner has something to surprise you, from delicate miniatures to imposing sculptures. Whether you’re an art lover, history enthusiast, or just curious, it’s easy to spend hours exploring. A perfect cultural stop in Cambridge, and a must-see for both locals and visitors.
Olga L — Google review
This is a fantastic museum and if you’re interested in art, it would be a reason enough to come to Cambridge, even if you have nothing else while you’re here. There’s a lot of nice impressionist paintings as well as other realist and pointillism from around the same time. As you could see in the photos, the Holdings for armory, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, ceramics are very extensive. I’ve got a big gift shop in a very nice little café on site as well. It’s really nice.
Lon W — Google review
A true oasis of culture and beauty in the heart of Cambridge. Whenever I have a bit of time I like to walk in and get a good dose of inspiration. The museum never disappoints. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. I like the new, more modern display mixing various periods under different themes, it's refreshing. There are always fascinating temporary exhibitions too. The café and gift shop are also excellent. All in all, the Fitzwilliam museum is a must if you have more than several hours in Cambridge.
Silvana A — Google review
Very nice museum with a lots of different arts displayed from various era and places. If you like arts your place is here when you visiting Cambridge. The entry was free, the staff was polite and helpful all the way. Please make a note turn off your phone flash as it harms the the displayed arts. The staff also will ask you politely. You can take many photos as you want. Very diverse and nice collection. Recommended to visit it. I post pictures from my favourite part the armory.

now write me a short review of my trip to the fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge England. The visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge was a captivating exploration of art and history, offering an impressive collection that spans centuries and cultures. Highlights included the museum’s exquisite paintings and finely curated artifacts, each thoughtfully presented to tell its own unique story. The blend of classical and contemporary works created a rich, immersive experience, making the Fitzwilliam a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, archaeology, and cultural heritage in a beautifully historic setting.

We only had time to visit the main museum but were not disappointed, some great pieces very nicely and clearly displayed. The building itself is simply stunning
Ady F — Google review
Popped in for a few hours before my train, so unfortunately didn't get to see everything, but what I did see was impressive. There is definitely something for everyone here, with artifacts seemingly from all over the world, and from every time period, even some modern works of art. I particularly enjoyed the armory room, seeing all the weapons and armour is right up my street. The piece that struck me most was a firearm that was also an axe! I also really enjoyed seeing some of the old Chinese dynasties pottery, given how old it is and that other ancient cultures usually take the limelight, some artifacts were over 3000 years old! Definitely one to revisit and see what I missed the first time round!

Gardens
Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a 40-acre expanse of gardens and plants that attracts families and couples. The city's beauty is further enhanced by various open spaces, including the University Botanic Gardens, which have been extensively developed and improved. The Backs, a series of landscaped lawns and gardens along the River Cam behind the main line of colleges, adds to the charm. Additionally, visitors can explore Kings Parade with its attractive shops facing Kings College and its chapel.
We love botanical gardens when we travel. This is my highest recommendation for a visit. The atmosphere and garden itself is emasculate, beautiful and pristine. One of the best £8 you could spend for a day or even hour stop. Nice staff, good food, well maintained. Would definitely go back, you can get lost in the vast beauty of each section for hours!
Tim S — Google review
A tranquil botanic gem in a busy city! An extraordinary garden of plants with some beautiful tree species. Easily accessed via the Park and Ride there's room to explore, learn or just sit and relax. Add to this a cafe with great coffee and the biggest croissants I've ever seen thanks to Stir Bakery, it's a wonderful day out.
Samantha E — Google review
I recently visited the Cambridge University Botanic Garden in the evening, and it was one of the most peaceful experiences I’ve had in the city. The atmosphere was calm, quiet, and perfect for simply being yourself. Unlike many crowded spots, here you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy nature at your own pace. The garden is beautifully maintained with a huge variety of plants and trees from different parts of the world. Each plant is labelled with its scientific name, which makes the walk not only relaxing but also quite educational. I found it fascinating to see species that I would otherwise never come across. Whether you are someone who enjoys botany or just loves greenery, the diversity on display is impressive. What I especially liked about visiting in the evening was how tranquil it felt. The soft light made the colours of the plants stand out, and the paths were quiet enough to just reflect, think, or simply sit in peace. It’s the kind of place where you can take a slow stroll, spend time with yourself, or even bring a book and read under the trees. Overall, a must-visit in Cambridge for anyone who wants to escape the noise of the city and connect with nature.
Trending D — Google review
The Botanical Gardens are always lovely any time of year. They are great value for money and very family friendly as they always have free activities for children and there is no charge for them to enter. Lots of lovely plants and different areas from the greenhouses to winter gardens. Only negative points...the food is very expensive and wasn't particularly good (a very bland salad today...apparently it was supposed to have raisins in...I got one! At £6 a bowl I expected flavour and *gasp* a dressing). The other is parking. Not the gardens fault, but there isn't any. This is particularly difficult for disabled people. You can park for 3 hours but that's very little time to visit given the extra time and effort it takes with a disability. There are NO disabled spaces and the pavement is is dangerous for either a mobility scooter or walking aid users. The Council needs to revaluate this! Also wish they'd keep the shop open till 5pm so you can buy stuff on the way out! They are missing a trick there.

I absolutely loved visiting the Cambridge Botanical Garden! It’s such a peaceful and beautiful place — full of colours, calm corners, and the gentle energy of nature. I could have spent hours just walking around and watching the flowers and trees. The glasshouses are amazing too! A truly magical spot to relax and feel inspired.
Elena R — Google review
I had a lovely visit! It was a quiet Monday, and pleasant even with intermittent showers. It’s a good size - not overwhelmingly big (I found Kew too big for one day). The glass houses were a particular highlight but lots of other lovely areas like the herbaceous borders and the scented garden. The Rising Path was informative. I enjoyed a salad and drink for lunch at the cafe, which wasn’t busy. If you buy a ticket, you can leave and come in again on the same day which I did and was handy for me. I’ll definitely come again!

This is a magical destination, especially for those who love plants. Despite visiting on a weekday, there was a decent crowd, but it never felt overwhelming. There is so much to see in terms of plant life, and we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a banana tree in bloom. We were also grateful for the fully-stocked cafe, which provided much-needed cool drinks on a warm day.
G S — Google review
We went there with family and we had a good time. Great place to visit when it’s not raining. To be honest it was one level of lower than my expectations also tickets could be £5 for adults , that would be much reasonable price rather than £8 . Free for children. Also for that large land scape they could do much activity for kids. But end of the our visit we left with positive feelings. Worth to visit.

Parker's Piece is a 25-acre grassy area in Cambridge, known as the birthplace of football rules. It is one of the many open spaces that enhance the beauty of the city, along with other commons and gardens like Jesus Green, Midsummer Common, Sheeps Green, Lammas Land, Christs Pieces, and more.
Amazing Christmas market. Lots of activities, food stalls and cozy bars. Free entry. Worth the visit. Handmade gift shops, jewellery shops, fresh brownies and German chocolate shop. Plenty of space to walk around lots of seats available. Overall a good experience.
Rich V — Google review
Nothing much else than a big lawn so they decided to stick a huge Ferris wheel in the middle of it. I liked the pole at one end with rules of football but there’s not much else to do here. Would consider going here for a picnic or if you’re into running it would be good for that
Josh B — Google review
Loved the Cambridge Christmas market. We found parking less than 10 walking minutes, and the park itself had a bit of everything for everyone. From churros to crepes (for sweets lovers), ice skating, and the unmissable city view wheel, everything is outstanding. There are lots of outside bar areas to enjoy a mug of mulled wine or a bear, a Christmas tree maze, and lots of stalls with homemade decorations. Definitely recommend you to pay a visit (was not busy at all, considering was a Sunday afternoon).

Lovely, open green space. Enjoyed a great evening of comedy at the Cambridge Comedy Garden. Would highly recommend the Parker's Piece and the comedy event.

Beautiful green space in Cambridge England. Bus stop next to the space. Easy to get to and family friendly. Take the fam for a picnic and a football match.

My happy place when I was in Cambridge. A big open ground with plenty of chairs and so much history around.

A lovely piece of land to relax and enjoy the days sun. Very much a community enjoyed space with students predominantly making the most of getting together and some selling items such as cake. Lovely to see the big wheel which was added attraction and made a lovely opportunity to see over the city 😀

Castle Hill is a grassy mound located in the centre of Cambridge, providing panoramic views of the city. The car park is very cheap and provides great access to the site, making it perfect for those who want to visit the usual tourist spots before hiking up to the top for an amazing view.
Big fan of old ruins and castles, even if there is only a hint of what used to be there before. In this case an old mound left from a motte and bailey castle built during the Norman era, and possibly the site of an iron age fort before that, but the signs on site made no mention of this. Good views overlooking the surroundings, although some trees to the east, and the buildings to the south block a lot of the view. Only a short uphill walk from Cambridge centre, so if you have similar interests to me it's worth the detour
Atlas — Google review
The Castle Mound is a pleasant 20-minute detour if you're looking to stretch your legs and snag a surprisingly good view. It's the last little lump of what was once a proper Norman motte-and-bailey castle, now mostly a grassy hill with some history clinging to it.
Russell R — Google review
Visited the place by discovering on google map. A nice, sudden, unexpected tiny hill top area. A nicer view of Cambridge skyline from an elevated perspective. A good , secluded chilling place with friends at the evening after a hectic day 🥂 .
Rasib R — Google review
Nothing pretty or exciting about it. not even a bench to sit on. We parked the car at the nearby car park, but there are no facilities at all. The Castle Mound has a potential to be a lovely viewing point, but it needs some investment from the town and some facilities, such as benches or toilet nearby.
Ewe B — Google review
A lovely hill that bears the history of a castle of 1,000 years ago. Though there is nothing left to see nowadays, one would appreciate the feel of the past, and a view of the town below.
Narumon C — Google review
A very good place to see the panorama of Cambridge There is a billboard at the door explaining the history of this place. Suitable for children to climb small hills The scenery is very good no matter in the afternoon or at sunset Next to it is a parking lot that is most suitable for spending a day visiting Cambridge When you come nearby, it is recommended to spend 15 minutes to take a look
Zen C — Google review
This mound is near the centre of Cambridge can be easily overlooked even by those using the adjoining car park and yet it provides commanding views of Cambridge. The car park is pretty cheap for a full days parking, so I’d recommend spending the day visiting the usual tourist attractions and then hiking up the short hill to the top of the mound to watch the sun setting across Cambridge and maybe if you are lucky you’ll see storm clouds on the horizon to improve what is already an interesting vista.
Michael C — Google review
You can easily get a nice view of Cambridge city centre. Simply a nice hill

Girton College, University of Cambridge, was established in 1869 as the first residential college for women. It is located about two and a half miles northwest of the center of Cambridge near the village of Girton. In 1977, it became mixed with the arrival of male fellows and undergraduates. The college boasts an equal balance between men and women among both the fellowship and students, setting it apart from other colleges at Cambridge.
Enjoyed the campus and lodging; the room and food were both phenomenal!! They have two beautiful Steinway pianos, an upright piano and an organ in the chapel. Beautiful buildings and nice facilities; love the little cafe as well. Love the beautiful wild flowers garden!!
Judy H — Google review
Good place to stay, small rooms, nice gardens, friendly-ish atmosphere and best of all: college is being run by MI6 affiliated staff (recently recruited to my best knowledge) so you always feel safe! Sometimes or very rarely you may end up facing fake allegations, racism or discrimination. Pricey yet definitely worth the experience!
Imre Ö — Google review
Beautiful quiet grounds, shady on a sunny day. Interesting college buildings, lovely garden. Relatively welcoming to visitors (more so than the colleges in the city centre)
Andrew H — Google review
Travelled to Cambridge from Surrey to view perspective colleges with my daughter, visited four colleges before going to Girton college, was told to go to library to find someone to give tour, library locked and all students who should be giving tour's sat in canteen, total waste of our time, expected more on 'Open day'
Neil G — Google review
On my quest to view all 31 colleges during my sons time studying at Cambridge. This college is a bit further out from the city, so We made the effort to go out there today. It was worth it. Did not disturb anyone by going inside but the building was impressive from the outside and seems like it would be a nice place to study. Deapite being a true Selwynite he admitted it could be a choice if he returns to do a phd and cant go to Selwyn for some reason. So high praise from him
Mark A — Google review
Pros Great college community (partly due to the distance from town meaning that people socialise in college more) Swimming pool and fantastic gardens All the sports fields are on site More relaxed atmosphere than in some colleges. Academic aspiration comes from you and there is less peer pressure to overwork yourself and a more positive and supportive attitude from directors of studies and tutors. Very diverse and accepting community Also very caring community - just one example is that you meet the Mistress (yes, we have a Mistress, not a Master!) a few times over the course of three years in small groups, whereas at some other colleges (especially those of Girton's size), I get the feeling its all a lot more impersonal. AMAZING history - the only women's college that is now mixed. Our great hall has portraits of past Mistresses all round it - very different to most colleges that have at most one or two portraits of women. The Old Girtonians were incredible people and its a privilege to be a part of their history. The fact that it is further out of town is a reminder of the way they fought for women's rights to education and equality (they weren't allowed to be near the men or part of the university at the beginning). The very equal balloting system which means you are basically guaranteed a great room for at least one year, without having to pay loads extra. It is also not based on academic or extracurricular achievement (unlike some other colleges), since at Girton all types of people and skills are valued. The great self-catering facilities! Some colleges will say they have 'self-catering' facilities and it's actually only a microwave or maybe at the most a plug-in hob. At Girton, you have at least a decent-sized kitchen (and some of them are huge!) for each corridor (usually per 8-10 people), with an oven, four hobs, fridge, etc. As the majority of people eat in hall most of the time, there isn't much competition to use the kitchen, so if you want to cook a lot it's totally fine - but for everyone, it is really nice to have the option. Girton is one of the only places in the country that is home to a black squirrel population. Really fantastic sports facilities which everyone, not just the rugby team, uses. (Swimming, gymming, tennis, squash... you name it!) Cons Occasionally the distance from town can be annoying The Girton distance jokes from other colleges
Mario O — Google review
If you are lucky enough to be able to visit Girton College, you will find a beautiful, tranquil place, steeped in history. Absolutely mesmerised by it!

Chesterton Sports Centre is a well-rounded facility offering various activities and amenities. The center provides lane training and swimming lessons with qualified instructors, catering to all ages and even offering specific sessions for children with disabilities. In addition to the swimming pool, there are fitness classes, a gym, sauna, and badminton courts available. The on-site cafe serves reasonably priced food and hosts kids' parties.
Good gym facilities, friendly staff, refurbished swimming pool (17 m ) with good showers and changing room.
Sangamesh S — Google review
17m pool, 1.2m to 3m depth. Perfect temperature for moderate swimming and teaching. Gets deep fast so not ideal for non swimmers but forces them to learn fast! Not too busy. Often nearly empty during school holidays. Lots of equipment and toys during splash sessions. Good value at £4.50 per adult, £3.50 per child. Friendly attentive life guards. Generally clean. Showers and lockers and toilets are a bit knackered and could do with some investment.
Scott L — Google review
Horrendous customer service. Requested to make a private booking for the pool 8 weeks in advance. Filled in the form, sent it, no response. The form is not accessible and it was a battle to fill it in, in the first place. Possibly the worst customer service I have ever received. Had no contact or response from management despite requesting to speak to them.
A C — Google review
Wouldn’t bother booking the gymnasium for badminton, the ceiling is far too low. Shuttle was hitting it every other rally. No warning of this prior to booking.
Sean G — Google review
The staff was very nice and the swimming pool is good conditioned , I normally go to the swimming pool every Friday night . But sometimes the changing room is a bit too damp. And there's some children running in the changing room speedy, at the first time I have a shock......

DW Fitness First Cambridge, situated in the Beehive Centre, offers a top-notch gym experience. Members enjoy access to quality equipment and a well-maintained pool where they can swim without overcrowding. The friendly and helpful staff contribute to a positive atmosphere, while the added perk of discounts at the gym shop enhances the overall value for members.
First Gym I've joined with full membership, tried some others but DW is by far the best, could not be happier, the staff are great. All very friendly, helpful and cheerful. All quality equipment and enough equipment that you can usually get any machine you want without waiting, although not massively deep the pool is always quiet enough to do a few lengths in. The discount in the gym shop is a great bonus on top of fantastic facilities and a great value price.
Kieran C — Google review
Extremely dirty. Images speak for themselves. No toilet paper. No paper roll in the gym area. Nobody cares about cleaning or basic maintenance. Plus, one of the Jacuzzis has been broken for weeks. The other one is far too hot, despite having reported this they haven't done anything.
David G — Google review
I didn't go to the gym but rather the sports store and I found the place large, adequately stocked, staff were friendly & prices quite reasonable. I came here on a Sunday afternoon around 15:30.
Antonio A — Google review
The gym floor is good with a good range of equipment but it isn't looked after well. Things often out of order and very slow to repair. The main gym has been refitted quite recently but they've never done the changing rooms, showers or toilets and they are very poor. They are dirty and old and lots of the showers don't work properly and are often out of soap. There are often only one or two hairdryers working and I've complained at the gym and to their head office and they just don't care. They couldn't even bother to reply. Customer service is very poor and it comes from the top down. It is cheap so I suppose you get what you pay for but it's been noticeably quite since Pure Gym opened. I've been a long loyal customer but it means nothing and they are tough over contracts so beware!
Marcus B — Google review
Be careful when you sign their contract! I wanted to cancel my membership after six moths of going to the gym, due to the fact that the changing rooms, showers and toilet always looked very dirty. There was also something that looked like fungal growth in the swimming pool. However, their standard contract is written in that way that you cannot cancel your membership within the first 12 months of the contact! And they just do not want to hear anything.
Tatiana A — Google review
I'm a member and I'm more than happy with the gym. Staff are pretty friendly and I've always found it to be pretty clean, too. Considering it's one of the cheapest in Cambridge, the program of classes is reasonably varied, too. My main complaint would be about the steam room... seems that half the time it's not working, and when it is, it isn't very hot or very steamy. And I agree that the reception staff are more interested in chatting among themselves than acknowledging or helping any customers. I think this is even worse since they introduced the system of 'scan yourself in'. Now the staff don't have to interrupt their chat even to swipe the members' cards. Still, it's cheap and convenient. You get what you pay for, I suppose.
Hellen N — Google review
I joined here about 2 weeks ago. Currently there are 5 machines broken, that is both cable machines, both seated row machines and the lat pull down. I was told by staff in the first week not to leave and that they will get fixed. This didn't happen so I went through to membership services to make a complaint and cancel. They said I can't cancel because I used the gym too many times within the cooling off period. Staff and membership services all have the same poor attitude. In addition the toilets showers and the spa area are absolutely disgusting. No soap or shower gel. Awful place
SC — Google review
Very poor gym in general. Filthy, rusty and lime showers and splashing water everywhere. Also, filthy changing rooms always, the cleaner spend the hours talking and looking likes is doing something, really awful. The only benefits they had, it was bags for wet clothes and they now don't refill anymore. Always machines out of order even though it have been changed a couple of months ago and takes long time to be fixed. In top of this, they have increased the membership to £38.. awesome

If you're in search of a laid-back day under the sun, Lammas Land Pool is the perfect destination. Best enjoyed during the warm summer months, this inviting outdoor pool offers a refreshing escape from the heat. Families can delight in its spacious playground featuring swings, slides, and climbing frames that cater to children of all ages. The area is also equipped with picnic spots and a charming refreshment kiosk serving ice cream and drinks—ideal for those sunny afternoons!
Great little spot next to a super fun playground with areas for big and little kids! Lots of shade to sit under, bring a lilo! Definitey recommend!!
Lucy M — Google review
I am extremely disappointed with this outdoor kids swimming pool. The area was horribly dirty, with rubbish scattered all around, making it an unpleasant and unsafe environment. The pool itself was filthy and clearly not maintained. After swimming, my little one fell ill, undoubtedly picking up some bugs from the unhygienic conditions. This place is a health hazard and should be avoided at all costs.
