The Potemkin Stairs is a famous landmark in Odessa, known for its appearance in the silent film Battleship Potemkin. Built in the 19th century, this formal entrance to the city from the sea consists of 192 steps that create an illusion of greater length. From below, only the steps are visible, while from above, only the landings can be seen.
An evocative place to visit for fans of the "Battleship Potemkin" movie. Few tourists in these difficult times, although there is an occasional little red 'tourist train' passing. A nice view down to the port and the Black Sea beyond. In May 2024 the funicular wasn't working
Stephen P — Google review
It’s not so hard to accomplish that, guys! Especially when you’re hungry and you know that upstairs is food 😂 But, honestly, beautiful place with a nice view of the Sea Port and the sea itself. In the square up there are colorful buildings and nice historical monuments. And a bunch of cool restaurants and bars! 😉
Kristina Z — Google review
One of the important places you must see in Odessa, don’t forget walking near forest, it is also near sea side, harbour, check around and take more pics, it is really suggested to visit. And there is a funicular train near stairs who doesn’t want to climb.
Emre D — Google review
Newly remodeled stairs are great! The area surrounding the stairs is a new park with lots of benches and sites to see. Pleasant experience for sure. There is also a children's playground that's clean and new!
Bill G — Google review
I love Potemkin Stairs day and night always busy always there is music or activities. Nice views one side you can see the sea other side nice city view. If you are in Central Odessa must go and see the stairs.
Zerya D — Google review
Definitely one of the must see places in Odessa! The sheer size of these monumental steps is amazing! And after the recent renovation they look even more beautiful. Also surrounded by new parks, right by the city center and also right by the Port. Perfect place to be!
Patrick B — Google review
A compulsory place to visit in Odessa. The most recognizable and at the same time one of the most crowded places. Personally, I thought they will be bigger and most impressive. But anyway the way upstairs is tiring. Beautiful view at the harbor. The stairs- a bit messy. I recommand to take the picture of them from the other side- there's a platform in the harbor.
Agata G — Google review
Very scenic. Also very helpful information centre here that speaks good English. Walk down the stairs and catch the Funicular back up.

The Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet is a cultural gem in the city, featuring a rococo auditorium with unique acoustics due to its horseshoe shape. Visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant theater and performance arts scene, enjoying evening performances or avant-garde plays at smaller independent theaters. The nightlife in Odessa is diverse and dynamic, offering something for everyone, from music enthusiasts to those looking to soak in local culture.
Beautiful opera house, inside and out. I ended up attending a small local performance that wasn't even in the main part, but held in the outer walkway which was interesting.
Ethan S — Google review
This place is just majestic. Absolutely beautiful and astounding work of architecture. The surrounding location and water fountain are also magnificent. I saw Carmen and the tickets were extremely affordable for the masterful performance. This was my first Opera viewing and it was absolutely delightful. I felt very dapper for that evening. This is a must-see in Odessa and I urge you to see an opera while you visit, the acoustics and seating were phenomenal. I would do this again as a first-time goer to the Opera.
Sevo V — Google review
Spectacular architecture with very nice outside settings not far from the beach. I visited it in October 2022, and finally, watched Opera Turandot in March 2025. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hong Z — Google review
Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet is a stunning architectural masterpiece and a cultural gem of Ukraine. The interior is richly decorated, offering visitors a sense of grandeur and elegance that enhances every performance. Attending a show here is both visually and emotionally captivating, making the experience truly unforgettable. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates world-class performing arts and historic theaters.

Amazing place, awesome location, it’s in the heart of the city, saw one musical show there, whole experience is mind blowing, the building is mesmerising 😍👌

Worthy of 5 stars. It’s a beautiful opera house. Very accessible. Decent prices. Relaxed atmosphere. I saw Madame Butterfly. Surprised me how few people dress up here. Appreciative audience. Very good singers
Jeremy K — Google review
My wife and I were there watching the opera Carmen. We had the pleasure of sitting in a box. An incredible atmosphere, an architecturally very interesting building. In the breaks between the files you can have a good look at the inside of the opera and take photos. The staff were very helpful in finding the right place.
Carsten V — Google review
Took a guided tour but unfortunately it was in Russian and not in English. However, I still enjoyed the tour because of the fascinating interior architecture designs of the theatre. Was built in the 1800s making it one of the oldest opera theatres in the world and it is the most famous landmark of Odessa that you definitely want to visit. The Swan Lake was being preformed in the theatre when I was in Odessa but unfortunately tickets were sold out!

Flea & Street Markets
Privoz Market, also known as the "Supply Place" in Russian, is a historic market dating back to 1827 in Odessa. It offers a wide range of products including fresh produce, secondhand goods, and affordable clothing. Despite its historical significance during the Communist era for ensuring ample food supply, it continues to be a must-see due to its massive size and diverse offerings.
I went here few years ago, this place is huge! Has everything you need! Fresh produce, wonderful selection of sea food!
Alejandro P — Google review
during the war there were fewer sellers, but it's still a magical place where you can buy anything from North Face knockoffs to good fish and rennet cheese. Those are strangely cheaper than in a super market. I recommend beef there on Saturday, fresh slaughter on site. cheap
Marek R — Google review
Absolute heaven on earth for people looking for authentic and organic foods. The market is huge, crowded and hard to maneuver before you get accustomed. It is part of the charm. Here you will find all fruits, vegetables, berries, meets, fish, milk products etc that Ukraine has to offer. They also have product from neighboring countries like Georgia, Moldova and Turkey.
Aleksander F — Google review
When I stumbled unexpectedly the first time I flipped a lid. This place is brimming with life, spices and buildings separate to each other for different markets. There is a building for dried meats, one for seafood with fish jumping waiting to be purchased, it's endless and you need a full day to just walk and look before you would even consider buying anything it's that overwhelming. I since found out that this market is famous throughout the whole Soviet Union. It is an absolute must.!!!
David C — Google review
amazing market. the best place to go and get whatever food you need. they are very organized and have separate areas for different type of products; beef, pork, lamb, chicken, dairy, cured goods, honey. you can expect to get the best prices here and goods you'll not find anywhere else I was able to get some fresh from the cow milk here for 50 cents a liter, it was great.
Gary D — Google review
Huge market. From food to clothing items can be purchased here. Most of the food items from various sellers were found to be fairly fresh with sometimes price differences for the same item depending on the seller. If you are not in a hurry you can save a bunch by taking time to look all over the market before making a purchase. Inside the market was fairly clean however, some of the streets surrounding the market were littered with refuse that definitely was an eye sore with attention quite needed. In all it was a decent market with different boutiques and restaurants in the surroundings. Update July 30th, 2021: As an update to my earlier review, a lot has changed in terms of surroundings and stalls added to this market. The changes are remarkable and actually beautify the market! The Tram tracks and stops had been replaced and now it's like night and day compared to what it was when I first wrote my review. Kudos!
Henry A — Google review
An absolutely must see and must be in Odessa. This place is full of people - locals and tourists (you can chat with locals, since they are talkative). You can buy here absolutely everything - exotic fruit, spices, seafood, as well as local ones- fresh watermelons, grapes, tomatoes. What is not nice about this place is the smell in the place where meat is. And the worst thing is the fact that majority of stalls closes around 5PM, and there's information that it's working till 7PM.
Agata G — Google review
Anything you need, you can find at this market for an affordable price. It's a confluence between different coulinaire cultures. From fresh first to brand new clothes, from different meat types to all types of cheeses.

During the day, visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and beach sports while the lively promenade features chic cafes and boutiques. As night falls, Arcadia transforms into the heart of Odessa's nightlife with world-class clubs and bars offering unforgettable parties by the sea.
Nice drinks and good view. Everything was great. But Pool for kids.
Uğur A — Google review
The public beaches are hard to find. There are small staircases though, if you look for them. Everything is cement. They have done an excellent job in destroying any kind of natural environment. Beaches are better on the North Sea. Actually the thing to do here is walking in the promenade. That’s is pretty good fun. And people watching. Came back at night and I’d give it 7 stars. Bad beaches but fabulous nightlife
Jeremy K — Google review
There are so many beaches down this treatch of coat it will be hard to say which one or part will be the best... The only way to find out is to come here in summer and try them all... There are lots of restaurants and shops that will keep you busy for a long time, the hotels are also very well priced and there is something for everyone's taste...
Jacques ( — Google review
Nice beach. Here you could do everything to make a very funny and party hard time. Also, you could find different hotels in this side of the Odesa
Khrystyna S — Google review
Despite its excellent location, beaches are small, congested, and not clean. Place is famous because there used to be best sanatorium and beaches in soviet era. But now the place is highly commercialized, unplanned development. It is still a good place for a walk, but not swimming or sunbathing.
Preet B — Google review
Amazing spot! Clean and renovated. Beautiful during the day and night. Many food places, restaurants and clubs. Highly recommend to visit !
Oksana L — Google review
Good beach with many food shopping options. It was super crowded when I visited it. Be careful of the mosquitoes at all times.
Abdullah A — Google review
Trash everywhere! How this place is popular is beyond me. I took my son down there and counted so many ways he could hurt himself it wasn't funny. The water is also disgusting. I waded in a few feet and saw a dirty tampon floating in the water surrounded by cigarette butts plus broken glass and noped out. Also, after you get out a foot wash would be nice but this is Ukraine and the concept of amenities seems to be non existent here.

The park is located between the historical center and the seafront, offering a huge area for leisurely strolls and relaxation. It also houses various attractions such as the ruins of the Turkish fortress, Church of St. Mary Magdalene, and a complex of underground excavations known as the Odessa Metro.
Good park, with its unique atmosphere. You can still have a walk, in there and feel it's post glory and magnificence. One of most underrated things in this park is Odessa observatory! You should definitely pay them a visit!

Great park for walking around. Several fountains, monuments and benches looking like open books make it a nice park to both chill and stroll. There are several stands selling drinks and snacks so you won't go hungry either.

The park is big, you can see the port, also you can take the cabin to the hill above. A little dangerous to ride the cabin, but the view is nice. A lot of flowers and cats. There are lots of benches, and street stores. Very nice!

A very good park for walking and jogging. It has the Chornomorets football stadium in the center, which is the main football team representing the city. The park is neatly maintained and as clean as it can get. It even has several fountains around it, and pretty benches shaped like open books(which contains details about the famous ukranian writers) near the monument of Shevchenko. There's also an open air theatre inside which is a must visit during summer days.

Odesa Dolphinarium Nemo is a popular attraction where visitors can interact with dolphins and enjoy entertaining show programs. The dolphinarium also offers dolphin therapy for kids and adults, making it a great place for family relaxation. Additionally, guests can choose to visit the attached modern hotel of the same name or enjoy the sea view with a glass of wine at M1 restaurant.
Stunning performance. Incredibly well done. The trainers are acrobatic and the dolphins are just so smart! And man they can jump so ridiculously high! Like 3 body lengths high. It is a must go attraction and really, my favourite place in Odessa. The seats are well designed and no one is blocking your view. Great show and great price just perfect
I-Hsin Y — Google review
Nice show, dolphins are well trained. The only bad thing is the lack of space for dolphins but they still have better living condition than most Ukrainians.
Michał S — Google review
Wonderful experience, wonderful creatures and a lovely atmosphere. The show i enjoyed had appearances of fur seals, sea lions and a handful of dolphins. The trainers are exceptionally well prepared. The show had a wonderful theme and was very exciting. Only thing i did not enjoy was the fact that the show is largely spoken in Russian, even though there were enough foreign people present. If you love dolphins, don't miss out on this incredible experience.
David I — Google review
Great place to visit and enjoy the show, especially with kids. They will definitely love it. First row may get you wet. Oceanarium does not make much sense to visit- it’s very small, just two rooms.
Darius S — Google review
Great place to visit and bring your kids. I don't know what happens behind the scenes, but the show was outstanding.
Sorin Ș — Google review
They have an aquarium and dolphin show both with separate entry. The aquarium was only 100 so I entered it. It's pretty small with 1 small room for aquatic animals and another room for lizards, butterflies and insects. It was worth the 100 I think. Staff was friendly and it was something different to do in ukraine. Just keep in mind it's only 2 small rooms. For 100 they can let you hold some of the lizards or snake and have your picture taken with them which was pretty fun.
M G — Google review
Animal cruelty in a "5" star hotel. Horrible. Things like that should be prohibited. Why is nobody doing anything against that? How can people visit that place to support such a cruelty on animals 4 dolphins in a mini pool, full with tourists. Government should act. I cannot understand how people can support that. This is inhuman. But, karma.

Explore the fascinating Museum “Secrets of Underground Odessa” and delve into the city's tumultuous history. This unique attraction offers guided tours of an underground tunnel network that served as a quarry, WWII fallout shelter, and women's prison. Gain insight into the guerrilla warfare tactics used by locals during World War II. The museum houses a diverse collection including documents, printed publications, fine arts objects, numismatic collections, and weapons from the 17th - 19th centuries.
These former limestone quarries are really a must in Odessa (there are several of them around the city stretching for tens of kilometres). You may visit this one with the excursion. It is not physically demanding and the helmet is provided in case taller people would hit the ceiling. Guides are really great and it is absolutely impressive.
Darius S — Google review
A must visit in Odessa showing the war times. The tour was in the summer, however, the weather was pretty cool inside. Only issue is was the tour times as I could not find much info in the internet. A private English tour may cost around 500 with a local guide but you have to bargain with them. Highly recommended.
Abdullah A — Google review
Very interesting tour. I took a Russian language group tour but I only speak English, this not a problem as they had plaques in English at each stop. Fee was only $10 paid directly at the museum.
Kevin M — Google review
Okey so this was quite a disappointment. First of all the tour was only in Russian, we did not find an English-speaking guide anywhere, but fortunately we had a friend with us who spoke Russian and could translate something for us. Second, it is nice that the bus took us to the place of the tour, but after the end he did not return, it would be nice to inform about it at least in advance that you have to walk across the city back to the city centre. Third, it was overall nice experience but it is not definitely one of the place that is "must see" in Odesa, mabye the second Catacombs that are outside the city are better (more wild).
Alan H — Google review
Wow this is just an amazing tour. They take you down some amazing routes and see both communist era and older parts of the tunnels. We had to bring a translator with us but for us this wasn't an issue. Would recommend this to anyone in the city.
Benjamin P — Google review
Amazing and interesting experience. English guide was very charismatic so tour wasn’t in any moment boring, which is was pretty awesome because it lasted 2 hour.

If you're a fan of Apple, be sure to visit the Monument to Steve Jobs in Odessa. This historical landmark is located on a quiet street away from the usual tourist spots, allowing you to appreciate the city's unique and sometimes neglected architecture. It's remarkable to come across a monument dedicated to Steve Jobs, adorned with an Apple logo held by screws and cogs, which could have been replaced with PCB boards for greater relevance.
A truly beautiful piece of art and very emotional to be around

(Translated by Google) Everyone knows that Odesa is a pearl by the sea. Architecture is the main decoration of every city: theaters, museums, temples, palaces, etc. Consider the Vorontsov Palace. Walking along Primorsky Boulevard, be sure to visit it, you won't regret it. The place for the construction of the palace was not chosen by chance. In ancient times, the ancient Greek polis Borysthenes was located here (seridina 6 to the beginning of the 5th century BC), later the Turkish fortress En-Dunya (according to other sources Khadzhibei), later the country house of the landowner Kulikovsky. The new residence of the Novorossiysk general-governor M. Vorontsova had to impress with her luxury, forms and beauty. Built according to the project of the Italian architect F. Boffo, a two-story palace in the style of empire and classicism. Since 1826, it has been the official residence of the governor-general, the imperial couple stayed here. In the period from 1826 to 1829 auxiliary buildings were built: stables, utility rooms, belvedere, wing, fountain. Massive stone columns, stucco, 8 fireplaces made of Ural marble, English furniture, not much has survived to our time. Many elements of decor (interior) were taken to the Count's Alupkin Palace in the Crimea. The Vorontsov Palace is a vivid example of an irresponsible attitude towards historical heritage. I put two stars for the restored belvedere, the facade of the palace, everything else needs to be worked on.

The Odessa Archaeological Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It houses an impressive collection of regional artifacts, including Scythian gold, early Slavic tools from Kyivska Rus, and Sarmatian swords. The museum also features a gold and silver treasury as well as Egyptian mummies. Visitors can explore the carefully crafted displays showcasing over 170,000 exhibits that offer insights into the rich history of the region.
Went here few years ago, wonderful artifacts, great history, recommend for family and kids wanting to learn some history!

Great museum! You can feel "Soviet times" there because nothing changed last 40 years.
Kristian D — Google review
Small, but very good. The museum has a decent collection of it's own, and some nice materials on loan from other museums. It was worth the time and money, and also worth the extra fee to take photos. I will come again sometime.

The Odessa Archaeological Museum is one of the oldest archaeological museums in Ukraine and it was founded in 1825.
Yana D — Google review
Very nice display. However you should be aware that they have some extreme mixing of historical periods. Greek vases in particular. Also many of the vases are displayed only from one side, leaving half of the vases depictions covered. You have to pay extra for pictures.
Scottya A — Google review
The most part of the collection is about neolithic cultures and old greek city-states on the territory of Ukraine. Overall I liked the collection, but the workers who sell the tickets try to cheat: they take the tickets which we have bought, tear them and instead of giving the full ticket, they give back only a half of a ticket. Clearly, the try to sell a half of the tickets twice and put the money in their pocket. So it is interesting to go to the museum, but insist on getting the full ticket back!
Andrii M — Google review
It is a very interesting museum. In it's collection you'll find many historic artifacts. It is one of the oldest museums in Odessa and one of must visit places. Located at the beginning of Pushkinskaya street near Primorskii boulevard. One of the quiet places in the city.
Dmitriy M — Google review
An underrated attraction in Odesa, the archaeological museum is a real treasure. The museums features artifacts from the days when the region was a Greek colony (8th century BC), mummies from Egypt and Scythian finds. The small gold treasury room is impressive. A must visit for any historian of the ancient world.

The Museum of Modern Art of Odesa, affectionately known as MOMA, is housed in a grand imperial doctor's manor and serves as the main venue for the Odesa biennale. The airy gallery showcases a diverse collection of contemporary paintings and art forms, with changing exhibits that often reflect on current events such as the war in the east and political strife. Despite its small size, the museum features works by local artists alongside controversial pieces.
Quiet small building with 2 floors. However, exhibition was very cool for such small area. I can highly recommend this place for visiting. They have student discount. If you are sidenote with painting relation it is free. With appropriate student ID.

If you go to Odesa, you'll have to visit this small museum. Right now you'll find the works of local artists on display in addition to some controversial works, all relatively small exhibition. The museum seems to be still in 20th century with a lot of spelling mistakes in the English reading.

We wanted to see some modern art there, but we were not really amazed by it. There’s a main exhibition which was somehow ok about NFT, but not really exciting to see. The museum is pretty small and has not a lot to give for it’s visitors. :(

The Wild Odesa Catacombs, also known as the Museum of Partisan Glory, is a vast network of underground tunnels and stone mines that were originally used for construction in the 18th and 19th centuries. During World War II, Ukrainian partisans utilized these tunnels as a base to launch attacks against Nazi troops.
We explored catacombs yesterday with Ivan. The trip could easily be booked on a very short notice. Our guide spoke English fluently and had a truly admirable knowledge about the catacombs. He was very well prepared for the tour and navigated the tunnels within any hesitation. We were explained in detail how limestone used to be mined and shown old inscriptions left in the stone by the nineteenth century workers. As of 2025, the cost of the tour is 600 hryvnas per person. Additionally, one can either pay 30 hryvnas per person for a bus ticket or 300-350 hryvnas for a taxi (one way).
Małgorzata M — Google review
Our guide is what we call in our country "tezaur viu", a living treasure. I could never imagine that such a labyrinth, an estimated of 3000 km of catacombs, could hide under a city. And I was shocked to discover a person that has studied and explored so much of it, that has so much information. From all my travels on this earth this was one of the most extraordinary experience.

Emily T — Google review
Quite unusual place. It's interesting experience but simultaneously it isn't too hard and almost anyone can visit this place - if you're not afraid of dark and wet places and also able to bend down it might be for you. Flat shoes are necessary, no high heels.
Rafał T — Google review
This is the Catacomb tour you want to take. The only thing I regret is not going on a longer private tour but next time I will. The guide is funny and very knowledgeable about the catacombs. He has spent most of his life exploring them and knows them like the back of his hand.
James M — Google review
Very interesting tour. We were just with 4 people (incl. guide) and it was not touristic. We were the only ones. The guide told us in English the history of the caves and answered all my questions I had. I don't know if its legale, but anyway, it was worth it!!!
H V — Google review
It was a good choice to choose this trip - catacombs are really impressive and our quide very well informed and passionate about them. We got answer to every question we had snd due to a low season we practically had a private tour:) best greetings from Poland!
