Our best dinner in Akakura Onsen by far. This residential place is very small with only 3 tables so book early. The squid ink udon is fantastic and so are the rest of the small plates (negi toro & apple tempura is good). Slightly off the main street and it was dark and foggy when we walked there... a little scary!

This feast, would have to be one of the best restaurant experience our family has had while travelling in Japan. It felt like we were invited into their home for dinner. Absolutely lovely family owned restaurant. Thank you. Regards Jim san.

Delicious udon and other sides dishes including fried chicken, tempura apple and edamame. Highly recommend the fresh apple juice too. English menus are available. The atmosphere is cosy. Three shared tables to choose from. Run by a friendly husband and wife team. Great lunch location.

Portions are large and this is a place that needs booking unless you go early (before 630). Elderly couple run it and it has a cosy vibe. Good place to fill up well and will be back to try the other dishes. Tried the Kamzuri (fermented chilli paste) and had the regional flat wheat noodles.

Outstanding place for udon noodles! The atmosphere is super authentic and you can sit on a old fire place. It's a family owned business and its really good food.

INCREDIBLE! This is my third time to Japan and I have NEVER been so....just lost for words. I'd heard about this place from many locals but it just seemed impossible to get a seat at. EVERY TIME we went around dinner service we were told to come back later. One night we held out until 9pm and my my my....WORTH THE WAIT. Amazing tasty, traditional yakitori in a cozy vibe! Was willing to hand over a blank cheque for this experience. The whole bill came to $120 for three of us but we tipped them $30. I seriously cannot decide which party seemed happier. We were stoked. They were stoked. A very memorable experience!

If you’re staying in the area grab a delicious bite (you’ll want many bites) before it becomes 1+ hours wait every night. We had the wings, chicken with green onions, chicken thighs and pork belly and everything was tasty. Tofu and the yakitori don were also great. They have a decent drink selection and beer on tap. Overally a very good apres ski meal.

Come after 7.45pm if no reservation. This is the only yakitori place in reservation town. It is almost impossible to get a normal dinner timing here unless you reserve (like all the restaurants in this town). Food is decent but not as good as many ive had in tokyo. Some of the yakitori were too salty. My favourites were the Liver, heart and chicken breast. I tried every yakitori item and would only suggest passing on the torikawa(skin). Drinks are available too with great variety. A side note is that i think the owner had her kid there too and was disrupting the dinner seating. There were other kids gathering over games and bumping into me as i ate. It is quite expensive as well with a minimum of 2 sticks per order.

This is a very popular yakitori dinner option among the quaint skiing/snowboarding crowd staying around the Akakura Onsen slope esp around 6-8.30pm (sort of the apre ski eating spot), so it's best to ask your hotel to help you make a reservation if you intend to eat during that period. They are a non-pretentious cosy bunch making yakitori. We started with a pale ale that the owner's friend brewed, as well as a umeshu (plum wine) w hot water that the owner made herself. Both were delish and a great way to start while they grill your orders. We ordered the combo chicken plater which has various parts, in both the sauce and shio (salt). Both were nice, but i personally preferred the one seasoned just w simple salt cause their chicken alone was juicy enough. Would also like to highlight their fried chicken cartilage which had a special batter that was amazing. Kinda milk powder-ish. Their spicy fried rice was also super yummy, and the chilli sauce their use comes with a hint of citrusy tang. Love that place, and super nice to recharge w their bohemian vibes and freshly cooked food after a day of snowboarding!

This is by far my favourite restaurant in town. The pork and chicken hearts are both great. You need to book ahead if you want to get in

Amazing amazing Yakitori. Some fantastic food at this restaurant. Suggested by our hotel owner, lack of Google reviews seem to point to this being a bit of a hidden gem. Meat really was melt in your mouth. Side dishes like rice and potato wedges were nothing special, but as a Yakitori alone, it has to be rated 5 stars.

Great cosy atmosphere, excellent yakitori and fried chicken and chips for kids with a craft beer on tap. Yum.

The curry is good. Ice cream is nice too. The Raman was a bit too soft . But soup based is nice . The service is very good and the woman was very nice and talkative.

I had chicken and egg with rice - very tastless....also had a ramen that was good but nothing special. Saw others that had tempura that looked really good!

Came here 3 times on our trip. Great time watching sumo wrestling, drinking beer, and feeling welcomed. Will gladly come back next trip.

Lovely, small izakaya with counter and table service. Very glad we wandered a bit off of the main street in Myoko to eat here. Sake tasting was lovely, food very good, and a cozy atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Ponta and the ladies are running a beautiful restaurant here, and if you are in Myoko over winter you owe it to yourself to visit. The food is very varied and each dish is interesting, and they have Yebisu beer and delicious homemade umeshu alongside local sake. Prices are fair, so we eat and drink a lot. What more could you want.

We recently dined at this Japanese restaurant and were thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is warm and authentically traditional. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was genuinely authentic and delicious, providing great value for the experience. I highly recommend . It worth the visit!

A great family run Izakaya. I've studied in this region of Japan before and I totally recommend it if you are looking for an authentic local experience. You won't regret it.

Pontaro’s food and service was fantastic. Small local restaurant with great atmosphere. You have to try one of the local sake tasting sets. A must do when in the area. Oh, and it has been dumping deep pow all evening! Japow turns!!

We went to Myoko 🗻 at the peak of the winter ☃️ season and thank goodness 🙏🏼 we got our hotel 🏨 to make a reservation for us. Arrived on time ⏰ and was directed to our table immediately. Every table is pre-booked and if you are late, they will give up your slot. The restaurant is really neat 🍽️ and clean 🫧🧼! Their interior designer uses lots of wooden 🪵 furniture 🪑and the place is brightly lit 💡. The walls are adorned with retro posters 🏞️🖼️. There are bar 🍷 and table seating options available and if you are going  to order a lot of food, I will suggest the table seating option. Shibata serves typical Japanese 🎌cuisine, and the food is very well prepared 🧑‍🍳👍. We tried the Katsudon 🍛 and the rice 🍚 was so fragrant and the meat 🥩 was perfectly fried. Fried Chicken 🐓needs no introduction (we order two portions!), it came hot ♨️and as we dip in, the mayonnaise just melted 🫠. The Big Crispy Tofu and Gyoza 🥟🥟🥟 were pan fried to the perfect crispiness 😎. Crusty on the outside and wet and soft on the inside, #winner! Water🚰is free flow, just help yourself. Staff 🙋‍♀️💁‍♂️ are very polite but spoke limited English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 but hey, ok we got the order done no biggy. 😇 A pleasant visit to this restaurant and they hit all the right notes for the food. ✅✅✅ Just one note to remember is to make a reservation especially during the peak period. #goodjapanesefoodinmyoko #petfriendly

Early in the Season. We dropped by for Lunch. And had Great Service when we wanted to do a Special booking for Christmas. The Food was Good too!

They have a separate vegetarian/vegan menu, just need to ask for it when you arrive. I ordered the Big crispy tofu (not pictured), radish salad, gyoza and Udon. Tofu and salad are enough for one person. During peak season it can be very busy.

Very delicious. We stay 4days in Akakura onsen. And we visit this restaurant 2 times.The price is cheap. And their service is very good. Had better to reserved.

We booked 1 day before. It was a warm and nice restaurant. Waitresses were polite and there was a small fire place. The food was excellent and we’re so glad we booked! We also had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and a draft beer with edamame. For desserts, the mocha ice-cream with cone and the chocolate fondant were really tasty. We will definitely come again if we visit Akakura Onsen.

We were early in the season so not many restaurants were opened. We walked into Shibata and was lucky to get a table. Family run restaurant that serves typical ski resort food. My son had the cheese covered hamburg steak (He said it was good) while we had the special BBQ set for 2. English menu available

The edamame was the highlight. The ramen was likely too salty. Good atmosphere however. Don’t order the draught beer. They do not pour it correctly and you end up with a glass of froth.

They offer a buffet menu for breakfast this winter season. It's a bit disappointing that it changed and isn't like the reviews:( but food is still good!

Pretty decent coffee! We ordered a flat white and americano. Satisfied with our drinks. There were not many food and generally pricey foods. Sandwiches go for 1500 yen at least. Water is provided.

Great coffee and western breakfast options. Loved the smash avo and poached eggs and bacon.

Delicious matcha latter and Gf veg curry, also tried hibiscus tea. Difficult with Gf options tricky for coeliac as not separate fryer.

I really enjoy the food and drink, super tasty...especially breakfast. The only thing i have to say is a negative is the inconsistency in opening hours. Its one of the few places here in the village that offers options for breakfast and lunch that arent a “hotel” restaurant and 8 out of 10 times i go its closed and its a bit frustrating. I wish it would post more accurate shop hours. I would still recommend going here but maybe call ahead and have a back up option ready.

They have this mini hot 🔥 grill in the middle of the table and you just have to order the meat 🥓🥩🍖cuts and you can grill them right in front of you. Is it good? OMG, the marination is spot on 🎯! The meat cuts are juicy, tender and so delicious 😋😋😋! I removed the pork 🐷 belly and set it on the top of my rice for the melting fat oil to drip back into my rice! LOL 🤣😎😬#sickbutiloveit We ordered 🧾rounds and washed them all down with a few bottles of beer 🍺🍻🍺. It was brilliant! ✅✅✅ What I didn’t enjoy was the extraction system for the smoke 💨to get out wasn’t exactly at the best. 🫣 Somehow, during a BBQ session, there is always that one moment, everyone will just add the meat and oil at the same time and the entire restaurant will just smoke out! The BBQ smoke lingers on your jackets 🧥and clothing 👖🧣👚👕 for a while. So a pro tip is……. Bring a trash bag, once inside the restaurant, put all your jackets inside the trash bag and tie it up. (That’s what we did in Korea 🇰🇷) Staff 💁🏼‍♀️💁‍♂️ were very friendly and polite but spoke limited English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿but it wasn’t so difficult, as all we had to do was point at the pictures 🖼️. …. The meal was really, really good 👍👍👍! Given it was winter ❄️ and we were huddled up in a room for good BBQ meat 🥩🍖and beer, the whole experience was just unforgettable! Hands down our favourite restaurant in Akakura Myoko. Beautiful marinaded meat (sirloin our favourite) with local specialties (try the tongue - you wont be disappointed). Also a range of veggies as well, with great mushrooms. Don’t get put off by the corridor to the restaurant - behind the door is bbq heaven. Small, smokey and rustic. You MUST book ahead.

Best yakiniku (Japanese Barbeque) you could look for in Myoko. Family-operated so basically traditional japanese styled restaurant. They even offer fresh veggie grew in their own family farm, which is unforgettble. The owner(dad) is so nice that he even drove us back to our hotel when it was too busy time for taking taxi. Amazing one :)

Tasty and friendly in a quiet area. Two convenience stores next door. Great gyoza and yakitori followed by each person's choice of ramen (I agree shou ramen was to notch with an egg added). Tasty beer options, I chose the local version of Pilsener. Westerner friendly while remaining totally local.

Nothing beats stunning handmade ramen with the snow falling outside…. Small, friendly and simply the best ramen you will ever eat. A warning - the jumbo size is HUGE!! And you must book….

A delicious and authentic bowl of ramen. We had the standard ramen and miso ramen. Also ordered a side of egg (marinated nicely), fried cartilage (one of the best we’ve had) and the cheese and rice bowl which is a creative yet delicious touch.

It’s a 60 year old ramen place that serves a variety of dishes apart from just ramen. After a whole day skiing, we went for the ramen - we tried three different flavours, shioyu , miso and tomato - each has its distinctive taste and the serving was big with a lot of ingredients. The kitchen took time to cook which we appreciate, and we enjoyed the meal very much.

Very happy with our Saturday dinner meal here. They were in big portions. My Finnish husband is satisfied. We spent for two people a total of ¥4230. This was started by their grandma 🤍

Amazing ramen! It was quite busy tonight, but definitely worth the wait. The gyoza was also super tasty, it tasted home made.

Coffee is great. The brownies are great if you’re lucky (two were amazing, the third one was so dry only vast quantities of coffee got it to go down). The staff are very friendly but will get your order wrong (we were here twice because the coffee was good, both times they confused stuff on pretty straight forward orders).

Fantastic coffee and great atmosphere. I have come here throughout the season and the staff are consistently friendly and the vibe makes it a great place to spend time. The staff especially Jordy, Momo and Cruz always ask about my day and create a homely atmosphere. Can't wait to come back here next season 😄.

Food was lovely and probably going to return. Keep wanting to take the sofas though n people always get there first…so not really a worthwhile complaint, but the only one I have. The staff members are also kind, warm and considerate.

Quick snack after being on the mountain. Right in the back of the gear rental shop. Had an iced latte, Bailey’a hot choc, and banana bread! Delicious and with great service. Views as well if you’re in on a clear day!

I don't know why the previous ratings for Izakaya Harumi were lack lustre. I enjoyed my 2 dinners there. Went there one night, and somehow back on another (cause the other restos were fully occupied, haha, but i still enjoyed!). They offer a selection of humble food, but the entire crew was super warm and friendly. They have an english menu. On day 1, we had yakitori of the thigh, meat ball, and the pork belly. The sauced option was more juicy than the salted one, and they provided a scoop of a tangy chilli sauce by the side that I liked. We also had the kimchi hotpot. They dont really use korean kimchi, and it is more towards the ketchup saucy type but we ordered some extra udon to add it. On day 2, we went for the grilled fish and chose the slightly more expensive Atka Mackerel, and i enjoyed it! Nicely seasoned, still juicy with the fish fat and w some crispy grill. We also had the sukiyaki, and it was on the sweeter side, and had some greens and the chewy vermicelli-noodle thing among the meat. Both days we had their cold tofu and it is a humble dish that I loved how they non-pretentiously prepared. It is a clean, comfortable, warmly lit modern-izakaya place that definitely deserves more rating!

Food was average, but Beware once you sit down they will bring a small side dish (smaller than size of your palm) of some bamboo seasame snack (probably our fault should have checked) but they charged us an exorbitant 200 yen each for the tiny dish. When we asked for a breakdown of the expenses none was provided except the receipt provided! For 5 pax, we ordered 2 sets of Sukiyaki -2500 2800 yen plus rice/udon for 5 pax up to 1000 yen with 1 ocha drink. Even with 10% tax which was NOT indicated anywhere we were definitely overcharged. Avoid!!

We came with a large group and really enjoyed the range of food and service. Tasty starters, grilled fish, and hotpot. No dessert options but drinks were excellent.

Great menu with many different options. The food was pretty good. There was a tablet for ordering with many languages, rare to see such conveniences in a sky village.

We had no problem finding a table at the end of the ski season (very few people around). The food was great and came out quickly (despite a sign saying they were short staffed). The restaurant itself is super cute - we would recommend!

Very nice little family owned restaurant. Octopus salad was amazing with a beautiful light sauce (unsure exactly what it was). Smoked duck and bbq chicken (soy) yakitori was also excellent. Niigata rice was the best I’ve ever had. So clean and tasty. Service was great, friendly staff and an all round pleasant atmosphere and restaurant. Wish we could have tried more, but we just couldn’t fit it in. Definitely recommend trying this place.

Pretty good spread of western and Japanese fare, but to r Japanese food is nicer for sure. I’d skip the pizza and pasta unless you’re absolutely craving for one. Shabu shabu, yakitori and the tempura stuff were excellent! Service is quick and fuss free 👍

Hunter in Myoko was absolutely amazing! Love ordering on the iPad with photos and many languages. We had the Japanese version of the hot pot (with an extra egg), the vegetable tempura, and the pickled vegetables, along with a beer and an oolong iced tea. Every dish was perfect—10/10! The meal portions were generous, and we left feeling so satisfied. Will be back this week. The space itself was warm, exciting, and incredibly comfortable. The staff were so cute, friendly, and helpful, making the experience even better. They all spoke Japanese and were absolutely lovely. If you’re in Myoko, this is a must-visit! A good spot for larger groups

Feb 2024 - Great quality lunch at a fair price for a restaurant. Amazing service and very very polite (another 1 start review stated otherwise). Easy ordering via an iPad (so all in English) with a great varied choice and style of food for everyone and free wifi.

Cosy log cabin style interior with cute and quirky decor (soft toys and raggedy Anne type embroidered art). One of our go-to restaurants in Myoko, but can be popular so suggest booking in advance. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and food is delicious. The mixed tempura, salmon hand rolls, agadashi tofu and edamame are fabulous. They offer beer, a couple of wines and sakes. A must try if staying in Myoko.

The best weather to have a piping hot ramen is when it’s snowing. Absolutely soothes any cold and hungry soul… This is a one man show, so please be patient.

During peak season you need to book as there are very limited seats available. I managed to go solo on a Sunday around 7 and got a seat. There are 4 Ramen bowls available 2 spicy 2 original and 2 of those are vegan options. I chose the vegan original and it was sooo good! I wish I had a chance to go back again.

Ramen of the trip - spicy miso is bang on! One person runs the small 10 seater restaurant. Epic vibe, chilled music!

TLDR: Get in before 6 as he's a one man show, try the spicy miso ramen and sweet potato gelato! By chance we stumbled into Yuki's ramen bar. He's a man of many talents. Not only a free riding champion but also an incredible ramen chef! He recommended the spicy miso ramen and it was a must try. The toppings make the ramen, there might be just a few but they are so flavourful! The local who sat next to us said his gelato was also a must try. He bakes his sweet potatoes and makes his own gelato. It was like salted caramel! With only 10 seats and a one man show get in early to secure an incredible meal! Enjoy the reggae music and snowboarding videos on show!

Easily the most delicious ramen in town. The spicy vegetarian was absolutely the best vego option in the area. Vibes were also good.

The food was excellent but the guy who was working the evening we visited was extremely rude, there was a mix up with our order where the chef brought out 2 Ramen bowls without saying a word, we assumed they were for us, but it turned out one was supposed to be for the couple sitting next to us. His reaction was extremely strange and made us feel very uncomfortable. It would have been very simple for the whole situation to be resolved but this guy was just angry and unhelpful.

The owner single handedly manage the shop, amazing! The ramen is great, they are mostly miso-based soup, but they also have shoyu and shio ramen. A hidden gem tucked away behind the main street area. A must try in town. Get in early before 6pm or after 7.00pm as there are only 10 seats and there are many Australian tourists, whose dinner is between 6-7pm.

Drinks here are severely overpriced, charging 500 yen for tea, and up to 2,500 yen ($20) for a mega beer. Prices are obviously targeted at western tourists. Food was abysmal, ordered a fish and chips, and i got fish nuggets. Serving bad food is one thing, but marketing it as something it is not is outright unacceptable. Many other places around that are severely better options, come here only if you have no other choice, or if you’d like to throw money down the drain.

Great night out for dinner. Went to Skate Bar first tonight. 4 Australians in their 50’s. Fantastic service and food. Atmosphere was great. We had our accommodation book it for us. Lots of fun.

Massively overpriced. Charging 1000yen for a bottle of asahi. Prices posted outside don't match inside menu. Big Gyoza was normal sized. Would recommend eating anywhere else

This is my kind of bar: a skater/ boarder bar in a mountain town. They serve food and booze. The staff are young and fit the scene. There were non stop snowboard videos playing. And they have a jagermeister chiller for those who like their jager shots at just the perfect temperature. The food was good too.

The fried chicken there probably the best Japanese style one I’ve ever had, and the ramen is also tasty, not cheap but tasty.

Great place if you love your Hip Hop, beer and apple wine!

Not too many restaurants open in summer time in Madarao. I guess Rudolf does save a lot tourists stayed in Madarao who do not want to go too far for food. Pizza is no doubt perfectly Italian taste.

Food is decent but drinks are WAY too overpriced and they insist each person must order a drink. I get it that drinks are the way restaurants making most profit, but 700yen for less than half a can of Cola is just too greedy. *EDIT*: the owner reply saying the Coke is only 300(lunch) and 560(dinner) if you pay in cash is a complete outright lie! Both the paper and digital menu only had one price and it’s 700yen. And the waiters never mentioned any price difference either. Lowered my review by one star for this shameless lie.

As soon as you enter from the snowy outdoors, you are welcomed into a warm, cozy and inviting space where the severs were attentive and kind. Our selection of local sake, margherita pizza, and spinach and egg pizza were very tasty. And the apple dessert pizza was definitely a MUST as it had just the right amount of sweet, tart and cream. But the best part is the friendly and genuine owner who stopped plowing to find us space in his fully booked restaurant. Thank you and we will be back!

Wood fired pizza was mediocre. Wine list was lacking and over priced. Staff were not very friendly. Older style lodge house, bit of interesting paraphernalia, like old Singer sewing machines. Wouldn’t recommend for families with kids. Heard the carbonara is good from another traveler, but didn’t try it ourselves.

We love this place so much that we went there twice in two days. The highlights must be Apple and icecream pizza, teriyaki chicken pizza. All other dishes were great too. Easily one of the best if not the best restaurant on the mountain. Also, they sell fresh apples to takeaway at the door. Great option to have on a mountain with limited access to fresh fruits.

Best pizza in the world! Rudolf's is a quaint family run restaurant with an authentic stone oven and somewhat open kitchen by the bar. The restaurant itself has a really nice warm, cosy atmosphere - perfect after a long day on the slopes.

A lovely restaurant with friendly and prompt staff. The food was tasty and prices reasonable. We had a lovely Christmas dinner no doubt due to the ambient Christmas decor, homely trinkets, lighting, and the laughter and cheer of fellow diners.

This is going to sound exaggerated and ridiculous but their home special pizza (beef) was the best tasting pizza I've ever had. I have a woodfire oven at home. I've had really good pizza abroad e.g. Italy, Switzerland, etc. For for me, the quality of the dough and ingredients, their respective ratios, and the cook time, were perfect. The taste and textures were as good as pizza gets.

Pizza perfection. This little 2 man shop is a little slow but totally worth the wait. The guy behind the counter works the pizza oven like no other with every spare second being devoted to hand making each pizza crust. Menu has good variety, good prices and good value. Tried to go back again but we got in too late to get a table.

Fantastic authentic Italian pizza & pasta in Japan! Brilliant service by beautiful Japanese owner. Husband is the chef, trained in Italy. No bookings but keep trying till you get in. It's totally worth it....go twice!!! :)

A simple Italian Restaurant in Akakura. The wood fired pizza is ok, the crust is tasty. The spaghetti with meat sauce was al ok. Nothing was wow, value for money and nice simple atmosphere. Service was quite fast.

Very famous Tonjiru restaurant in the area, Tonjiru is pork and veggie soup Japanese style. Here Tachibna provides special Tonjiru, which creates from a lot of Onion and pork only. Tasty, quick serve and inexpensive prices I like it.

This is a weird case of a ramen joint that has received a ton of press and always seems to have long lines, but the experience just doesn't warrant all the hype. On a good day the ramen is average at best for this type of soup, but the noodles are often hard and undercooked and the portions small. The workers must be overly stressed by the immense crowds because every time I've been there they were brusk to the point of rudeness. Ramen shops are always a bit of a "hurry up and eat" atmosphere, but this place takes it to a new level. Given how many decent ramen shops can be found in the area, it is a mystery why this one gets the traffic it does. Lines are out the door, people often park in other businesses, and the wait can be quite long if you don't get there as soon as they open. I have to imagine that at sometime there was an article or more likely a TV-"talent" visit who hyped the place, because otherwise there is absolutely no reason for the amount of crowds it gets. Most of the visitors seem to be out of towners too, not locals, which should tell you something.

Amazing place by far the best place we have eaten in the last 7 days in Japan. Would highly recommend the red hot yakisoba noodles and garlic chicken don.

This was such a a lovely place and the food was sensational. We tried 3 different ramen s on the mountain and this one was the best! The gyozas were also the best! Really really good!

The food was delicious - especially the karaage chicken! The owner was also very welcoming and gave us so many ideas of things to do in the area. I would definitely come back here in a heartbeat!

We visited during peak season (December) and the owner tried their very best to accommodate us even though he was very busy. The owner is humble and honest, and provides a personable quality service. Food was delicious and very affordable, especially for the portion size - would highly recommend anyone wanting to try Chinese for a little change in the area!

Hot dang the food here is tasty. Suprsingly, the Ramen with Wantons was our favourite Dish, not what I would expect form a Chinese place but it was great none the less. Super affordable too, think we paid under 22,00 Yen for 2x mains and a side.

Great little restaurant in the Myoko area. Fills up with people quickly, so it's advisable to make a booking, but you might be able to get seats at the counter with 1-3 people. I’m coeliac and they made me a gluten free okonominyaki which was so yum :) this was in a separate frying pan in a separate area then placed on the hot plate once the gluten ones were cooked.

Some of the best traditional Japanese dining I’ve ever experienced. Okonomiyaki filled us up but the fried octopus and karaage chicken were both amazing; the best we’ve had in Japan. The food is amazing, the owners are lovely and it’s super inexpensive.

Fantastic small restaurant run by a husband and wife who are very foreigner friendly and love sharing the magic of okonomiyaki with first-timers and veterans alike.

We had a lovely experience here with our 14 month old. It is an intimate restaurant run by a husband and wife and we felt like they had invited us into their home. The okinomiyaki was really delicious, oishi!! They went out of their way to accommodate our toddler and she loved the attention! I can't rate it highly enough! It seems to be very popular as they were booked quite a few days ahead so make sure you book in advance. Arigatou gozaimasu!

Such a privilege to eat at this place, there is only 2 tables, one at the bar for 2 people and a larger one on a tatami floor for 6-8 people. The chef cooks in front of you and the food is awesome

We loved this 2 table plus 4 seat bar counter restaurant. Watching the owner/ski instructor/mountaineer and colleague, both full of personality, take the requisite time to cook up a huge dish and side offerings was such a great.

Lovely husband and wife run sushi restaurant just off of the main road. Lovely service. We had the nabe and sushi set, as well as the omakase set. Price was indeed a touch on the high side but everything was well done and absolutely delicious.

Amazing sushi, grilled fish and ceramic grilled wagyu. This is one of the finest restaurants in the area and I bring guests here every time I stay in the Myoko Kogen area.

Warm friendly couple, homemade meal, quality good food. I’ve had better sushi in this region for sure (this wasn’t melt in your mouth) — but overall food was great and a very enjoyable evening away from the crowds.

Amazing restaurant and cafe, we had to go twice. Wonderful staff and a super cozy environment. The menu was full of options with reasonable prices. Vegan and vegetarian options available on the menu too. They have a wide variety of snacks and cakes to have with your meal or takeaway too. Probably some of the best food in town and the only one with western options. Didn't require a booking to sit in, but made one anyways. Last order is 6:30pm. We loved the Green Curry, the Spaghetti Bolognaise, pizza and most importantly the home made Apple Pie.

We've eaten here with the family (ages 30-80+) multiple times. The food is always excellent, with a rotating menu of different pastas and rice dishes. Food is served in a timely fashion, the owners are friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We always think of it as the DIY Cafe, as the owner has obviously built many of the tables and additions to the restaurant. The views of the Japanese Alps are also quite spectacular. Both indoor and outdoor seating available and parking is adequate.

This cafe has several good value options which include a small salad and soup. The beef with rice is a standout, as is the beef tendon curry. The dining room looks like a rustic wooden lodge and the music is pleasant. I may have to eat here every night!
