The Five Fishermen is a renowned restaurant located in a historic building in downtown Halifax, offering upscale seafood and steak dishes sourced locally. The restaurant's setting adds to its allure, as it operates from a monumental building with a rich history dating back to 1817. While the establishment has ties to intriguing stories such as haunted halls and connections to the Titanic, its focus remains on delivering exceptional cuisine.
We went for a late supper on a Thursday evening in July and was pleasantly greeted by staff. They sat us right away without a reservation. This is a beautifully decorated modern gem in an old building located downtown Halifax. Our server was attentive and super knowledgeable about wine and the menu items. She gave us a lovely recommendation that paired well with our meal and offered next day tour suggestions for wineries! The food was outstanding and worthy of a return visit. We came to this restaurant from a referral and we were pleasantly surprised! Go enjoy a fine dining experience here, as you won’t be disappointed!

Our flight back to Toronto was scheduled for 10 PM, so we decided to make the most of our last evening in Halifax by having dinner somewhere near the Prince George Hotel. While browsing for nearby restaurants on Google, we came across this spot and thought it looked promising—so we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, we were surprised to discover that the building actually houses two different restaurants. Since we didn’t have a reservation, the hostess offered us bar seating upstairs at The Five Fishermen, which we gladly accepted. The ambiance upstairs was warm, stylish, and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing dinner. We were served by a cool and friendly bartender who made us feel right at home. We decided to start with two appetizers, followed by our main courses. Everything we ordered was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. I’m a huge fan of seafood, and this place definitely delivered on flavor and quality. To top it all off, the staff surprised us with a sweet gesture at the end of our meal in celebration of our anniversary. It was a thoughtful touch that truly made the evening feel extra special and memorable. If you’re in Halifax and looking for a nice spot to enjoy a quality meal—especially if you love seafood—I highly recommend checking this place out. The service, food, and atmosphere were all on point, and it was a perfect way to wrap up our trip.
JePH — Google review
We had high hopes for Five Fishermen, and while there were definitely some highlights, the overall experience didn’t quite justify the price. First off, the atmosphere is lovely—refined but not stuffy—and the service was wonderful throughout. Our server was friendly and attentive, which really helped set the tone for the night. We originally wanted to try a couple of cocktails, but the prices were sky-high, so we stuck with beer instead. Thankfully, the beer selection was solid and went well with our meals. I ended up ordering the burger, mostly because the steaks were way out of our price range. That said, I was pleasantly surprised—the burger was excellent. Super juicy, with a delicious aioli and tomato jam that really elevated it. My wife had the vegetarian risotto, and while she enjoyed it once everything was mixed together, the base risotto itself was pretty bland. Not a bad dish, but definitely not worth what we paid for it. If we weren’t on a budget, we might have been able to explore more of the menu—and maybe that would have changed our impression. But as it stands, this one’s a 3 out of 5 for us. Nice place, but just too expensive for what we got.

I had the Five Fish Experience and the oysters — both were absolutely outstanding! The oysters were large, fresh, and delicious, and their mignonette was divine. The Five Fish meal was generous and perfectly prepared. What truly made the evening unforgettable was the service. Laura went above and beyond — I’ve never felt so well attended to. The hostesses were also wonderful and welcoming, even taking my coat upon arrival. From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The Five Fishermen definitely did not disappoint!

The Five Fisherman was the first choice on my restaurant list for Halifax and it definitely did not disappoint. The location itself is beautiful - very elegant inside with multiple floors and a classy yet maritime aesthetic. Server was outgoing in an unintrusive way and did an excellent job - bringing things promptly, answering questions, and checking in periodically. The meal itself was great! Had the "Fish Five Experience" which seemed like an obvious choice, as well as a lobster mac & cheese, with some oysters to start. The raspberry mignonette was rather unique and totally delicious - I have a feeling that oysters in the future will always be a bit underwhelming without this delicious addition. Overall loved the meal, definitely a 5/5 experience and would happily visit again if I return to Halifax.
J B — Google review
We had a date night here on Wednesday. We just wanted some lobster before leaving the city and this restaurant fulfilled that wish. Our server Alishia was amazing. Her wine recommendation complimented our meal well. The lobster Mac and cheese was tasty and so was the mash that came with the lobster dinner! The lemon loaf 6 ways was quite interesting as a finisher to our night.

Wow, what great service! Laura served us on our vacation in Halifax and treated my partner and I to a special experience. The dinner here was amazing the fisherman dish with Risoto and crab cakes as an appetizers was amazing. Will definitely be coming back on my next stay.

Amazing experience! We went for my wife’s 40th birthday and our server Laura was outstanding! She made the night memorable for the 2 of us. By far the best dining experience we have had. Food was outstanding! Highly recommend the beef and bone marrow, and crab cakes.

Irish pub
Durty Nelly's Irish Pub is a stylish and traditional establishment that was originally built in Ireland and then transported to Canada for assembly. Located in the heart of downtown Halifax, it offers a rowdy Irish pub atmosphere with live music and entertainment. The pub is named after a famous restaurant in Bunratty, Ireland, and aims to authentically emulate Irish culture.
An absolutely amazing dinner we had here. We were recommended this pub, it did not disappoint. The pub was busy but everyone was respectful and it made for an amazing night. We sat up in the more dining style tables so it was a bit quieter but if you went closer to the bar the energy, the fun and the music were great! The stew and chicken burger were delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was yummy too! Will definitely eat here again then next time we visit! For those that appreciate it: yes the bathrooms were very clean!
MB U — Google review
I ordered the fish that was very tasty with a crispy batter. The Caesar salad was the highlight for me and I’ll probably order it as a main next time. My Dad absolutely loved his seafood chowder. My husband had the Reuben sandwich and fries. He had me try both and it was the best Reuben I’ve tried in a long time. The staff was beyond friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for a great pub experience in the city.
Kristi D — Google review
Came here TWICE in my 3 night trip for a conference. DELICIOUS gluten free buns. I had a Reuben with seasonal beer salad (which was THE BEST with the fresh candied pecans and dried blueberries), and the Craic burger with Spice bag fries. The sumac and curry hints in that spice blend were so impactful but not overpowering. I am already planning a trip with the family in summer 2026 and going to bring them here for sure!
Jeneen M — Google review
Stopped here for some snacks and drinks and it was fantastic! The Blarney Chips were delicious, and after having several chowders on our trip so far this was by far the best! Drinks were good too, and there was a ceilidh happening while we were there and the music was awesome! Service was also spectacular, over server was very quick. Loved our experience here!
Jess M — Google review
My party of two was actually forgotten about and we watched others get seated and served after us, but keen observers will note the 5 star rating. It was just a busy night and the staff was so apologetic and kind (they even gave us a free app) and it was water under the bridge. But more importantly, the food was amazing. The french onion dip, guiness stew, cocktails, and the smoke burger were all delicious, especially the dip. Great staff, great food, great music, highly reccomend.
C.J. — Google review
First off, we came for food, not for drinks. The ambience and service looks like it would be a great place for drinks. However, the food was pretty bad. The Irish Stew was undercooked (beef and potatoes) and sour. The seafood chowder was also way too salty.
Geoffrey M — Google review
The food was very good and our waitress Sally was very friendly, attentive, efficient and professional. We will definitely be going back the next time we visit Halifax. Not expensive for everything we had and very generous portions.
Isabelle Z — Google review
Unfortunately we were overcharged for our meals. Also for our non-alcoholic drinks. The waitress took our bills as soon as we started to pay for it so we didn't even have a receipt to look back on and see what was charged. We did tip even though we were missing all of our gravies. Usually it's a fun place to go but we had two birthdays and left leaving feeling very frustrated and hungry.

The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - Halifax is a stylish yet casual chain restaurant that specializes in classic steak and seafood dishes. Located in downtown Halifax, this establishment offers a diverse selection of traditional American and Canadian cuisine, with their prime rib and wedge salad being highly recommended options. What sets The Keg apart is its recent addition of plant-based menu items, providing more options for diners.
Excellent time at the Keg! Great to come here before the HST break ends. Regretfully we didn’t get a table reservation so we were at the bar area, however the service was excellent and quite fast for how busy it was. The three cheese butter for the complimentary bread was delish to have alongside an appetizer. The medium well New York Strip was cooked to perfection, the twice baked potato was decent I think the garlic mash is the way to go next time. The Billy Miner Pie was very good and a portion big enough for two people! (Photo doesn’t do justice!)
Connor M — Google review
Fantastic service and food. A decent sized selection on the menu. We didn't have to wait too long for the food which was nice. The atmosphere is very comfortable and not too noisy at all. I would definitely recommend trying them out.
Mitchell — Google review
The Keg serves great steaks but unfortunately this location is off, I’ve visited this great franchise across the country and it’s always been great. The chefs prepared the steaks perfectly but the quality of the food is low. Service was on point, try the French onion soup it was delicious.
Organic R — Google review
Really has anyone ever had a bad meal at the Keg. Had the Pepper Steak and it was delicious, cooked to perfection and the sides were great! The atmosphere was perfect, just the right amount of light. Our server was perfect, and the food was served in with good timing. No long wait, just what you want when you are hungry. The only down side was the steak knife had residue on it, with the server apologized for and quickly replaced. I will definitely eat there again!
Gordon C — Google review
Well i must say everything was actually great, except the steaks. the service, the selection and the drinks were all good. The steaks were just very slightly overcooked or undercooked I couldn't really figure out, but given that their whole thing is steaks it matters but it wasn't bad in any way. But I would say that the escargot was excellent haven't had it better anywhere.
Musa H — Google review
Very good steak, really good atmosphere, and truly top notch service. Mark, our server gave us a free slice of cake for our anniversary and it made the experience truly one to remember.
Antonia X — Google review
Great service. Nice atmosphere. Food was great! Service was fast and our server Sarah was amazing! My husband has a shellfish allergy and we informed the server. After that we had a manager approach to heck in and ensure the details of the allergy. She assured us our concerns would be well taken care of. Absolutely professional, attention to detail, fabulous!

The Bartenders are the friendliest, most professional crew I've seen across Canada. Had the right games on, knew of the subject matter, perfect service and I'm needy! Thank you so much for such a great experience 4 nights in a row. Halifax Visiter.

Absolutely love this place. It's very quiet and romantic, candlelight. Servers are top notch and even brought me out some club soda when I accidentally spilled my wine on my shirt. Very attentive! love having the Caesar salad made right at our table-delish! steaks done perfectly as ordered. It's the perfect spot for date night! Lots of wine options.
Dawn W — Google review
We heard about this place from a local while sweating it out in the sauna at the Muir Hotel. The pitch? Best steak in town. We booked a few days later, excited. We arrived hungry. Hostess was lovely and seated us right away. A server brought over a board of dry-aged steaks. We tried to order oysters but were told we had to place our entire order immediately. Strange policy, but whatever. We went for it: two boneless ribeyes (medium rare, $68 each), with mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The sides? Decent — if a bit salty. The steak? Just bad. Mine was rubbery, barely warm, and looked like it had been sous-vide’d and waved past a grill. No crust. Cool red center. Visible unrendered fat. You can see for yourself in my photos. I raised it with the server. He insisted it was medium rare and offered to “re-fire it for two minutes.” I declined — didn’t want my wife eating alone while they tried to fix what should’ve been right the first time. From that moment on, we were ignored. No refills. No check-ins. When I mentioned the steak again to a different server while asking for the bill — most of my steak untouched — I got the same dismissive tone: “Ribeyes just cook like that.” No, they don’t. We waited almost ten minutes with empty glasses and a bill just sitting there. Ended up bringing it to the hostess ourselves. She was still nice. Then, as we were leaving, the servers intercepted us — not to apologize, but to defend the steak again and explain how hard it was to get a manager to comp it. Cool story. Maybe just let us know next time instead of leaving us dry at the table. Bottom line: sides were passable, the steak was a waste of money, and the service turned defensive fast. We left annoyed and still hungry. Would not return.
Alexander P — Google review
Great quiet ambience for intimate conversation. Service is attentive, great variety for every picky eater, and the food is delicious. Perfectly cooked steaks, the best iceberg salad I’ve ever had. Sadly had no room for dessert.
Lee ( — Google review
I’m not a huge fan of meat, but this steakhouse completely won me over! The steak was cooked to perfection, incredibly flavorful, and absolutely worth the price. The sides were just as impressive—the bacon mac and cheese was rich and delicious, and the fries were perfectly crispy. They also have an excellent selection of wine and drinks to pair with your meal. On top of that, the service was fantastic—our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and made great recommendations. I’d definitely go back! Highly recommend.

We had the most amazing experience at this restaurant. Great food, great ambiance and fabulous service. Thank you to Jonathan and the rest of the team for making us feel special while celebrating a special birthday. We will be back!
Est O — Google review
24th May 2025. Went with my wife for our 1st wedding anniversary. We usually go to Kegs 2-3 times per year. I was really impressed by the service. Food was awesome, the best steak so far. Cutlery and glassware were shinny and spotless which says a lot about a restaurant and attention to details. Prices were a bit surprising though. At $360 for 2 ...it was least $100-$125 more than Kegs. Was it worth it for our wedding anniversary and my beautiful wife?....yes. Will I pay that 2-3 times per year...no.......but will go again at some point

Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. Nice atmosphere and definitely an upscale place but service was lacking friendliness Also there was no lil dessert or anything for his birthday which I found odd Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were AMAZING though. But steak didn’t blow us away

Before bringing friends here for a small get-together, I just wanted to try the steak. Big mistake. She spilled water on my pants and shoes - twice. She said the jug had no lid... then just laughed it off like it was nothing. Absolutely unbelievable.

EnVie A Vegan Kitchen is a bright and contemporary cafe that showcases vegan dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant offers a diverse menu, including options like dumplings, pakoras, roasted winter salad, butter tofu chikn, roasted carrot risotto, and mushroom gnocchi. For dessert, they offer treats like peanut butter cup and NY style cheesecake. EnVie is dedicated to serving delicious plant-based vegan food and can accommodate various allergies including gluten and nuts.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. First off let's talk about the staff. Absolutely amazing, they went above and beyond. We were served by Courtney and she took all the time to talk to us about the menu and the drinks. Offered great suggestions and went above and beyond with recommending places in the city to eat and drink at. And now she goes further above and beyond by calling a local pizza shop to see if they could accommodate me being vegan. Now one step further, checks her old emails to help us get into a local speakeasy. Everything about her was perfect. Now the food. Excellent, I had the schnitzel with potatoes and it was super convincing. My girlfriend had a bowl that was delicious. We had to get an appetizer and dessert. Neither disappointed. Drinks were also very tasty, both the alcoholic and non alcoholic ones You will not regret going here, so do yourself a favour and go.
Oscar T — Google review
Amazing place to share a lovely meal for a special occasion, or just for a nice lunch or dinner. Loved the mushroom gnocchi and the cheesecake was a nice surprise! My only gripe is that as a tall guy, the portion sizes weren't quite enough to fill me up even after appetizers and desserts. The food was amazing though, so well worth it in any case!
Eric C — Google review
Dumplings were delicious and crispy, must try for vegans. Pad Thai (rice noodles) was good overall with broccoli with just the right amount of flavors, bell peppers and peanut. Beverage Glass lemon kick is a refreshing tangy drink. Side potato wedges were yummy. Good place for vegans and expect your invoice to be around-$55-$70 for a couple. Quantity is generous for 1 person. 2 people can easily share Pad Thai if you have normal appetite.

We went in for a very late lunch/early supper and easily found a comfortable spot. I ordered a Banh Mi sandwich which was their special of the day(Not on menu). I asked the staff to replace the mushroom topping with the Tofu and they were able to make that change. It was a decent sandwich however, impossible to eat like a sub, so had to go the knife-fork route. I will say I’ve had better but this was good too. My friends(both of them actually) ordered the Mushroom Tacos and they found it a bit underwhelming. I also had ordered an ‘Old-Fashioned’ cocktail which was pretty good. I would say it is a good restaurant. Probably will have a better experience with the group next time around.

Stopped in for a late lunch while visiting Halifax. We made a reservation online, but there was plenty of seating available. However, it isn't a big dining room, so plan accordingly. We ordered the pakoras as an appetizer, and they we're served with two different types of sauces. The chilli lime burger was delicious as well and served with potato wedges. Our bill for 3 of us, including one appetizer, 3 lunches, 2 non alcoholic, and one glass of wine, was $100 before gratuities.
Minerva S — Google review
Amazing little kitchen! We arrived without reservation with a party of three on a Friday night and not only was the venue accommodating, the food came out quickly. Not even three minutes after placing our order did the dumpling appetizer arrive (which had six to order but were vanishing rapidly as I took a photo). The mains arrived within ten to fifteen minutes with a mostly full dining room. My dining companions, vegetarians, both raved about this being some of the best restaurant food they've had since 2019 when the transitioned away from a meat diet. Myself, I still eat meat but found all of the food easily on par or better to most restaurants we dined at in Halifax so far. The breading on the vegan wings (oyster mushrooms) was particularly tasty and I was ecstatic that the actual mushrooms remained very springy, with a great solid texture. It was a perfect bite for all six wings. The wrap chili wrap vanished quickly and the fried fake chicken sandwich was immense, completely filling. Each desert was small enough not to overstuff us and give us a sweet bite to end the meal. Would 100% visit EnVie again, shout out to our server Brittny who was quick, accommodating, checked on us frequently and had full control of the dining room despite how busy it was. Thanks for the amazing evening.
Brick — Google review
This was an excellent restaurant, and all vegan, so I could order anything off the menu! The protein power bowl was fresh and delicious, and the bean burrito was good too, though I would have liked to know ahead of time that it was spicy! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I'll definitely return here when I'm in Halifax.
Mary-Jean H — Google review
A must-try for anyone in the area. I make a point of dropping in every time we visit Halifax. Their menu is expansive and full of variety. So many delicious vegan options for anyone to enjoy. My fave is the chili cheeze fries, they are LOADED with toppings. Finally got to try the King Wings and I wish we got more, they were sauced up and so flavorful. Their burgers are also stacked with toppings, worth a try but can be messy. They generally have some rotating seasonal cocktails available, I tried a spiced cider and it really hit the spot on a cold rainy day. Staff was a little pretentious but honestly, kinda comes with the territory when you go to a hipster vegan restaurant. He was nice enough to explain ingredients and give recommendations for popular dishes last time we visited.

They have perfect flavour combinations as well as often unique ways of combining them into each cheesecake. The decor was wild and fantastic and romantic and elegant all at the same time. My wife and I order 3 slices, the Key Lime, the Blueberry Lemon and the Mocha. They were so decadent, we shared one slice at home that night and the split each in half and could only get through half a slice each, each day. These are my favourite styles desserts because they are delicious but so decadent, that you end up eating only a little bit each time, truly allowing you to savour each slice.

I tried the mango cheesecake and ice coffee. Staff members are friendly and explained to me they are made in stores. Cheesecake cafe and people games for them. They are not too sweet, just right, the mango and raspberry sauces are great. Anyone who does not want to have too sweet cheesecake is a good choice.

That was one of the best cheesecakes I’ve had in over a decade. I had the London fog cheesecake. Sadly I don’t live in Halifax so not sure when I’ll have it again :(. Staff was also really helpful and kind. My boyfriend had the brownie and also loved it. Ambience was great!

I think this may be the best. Geese ale I have ever had! Boston Cream pie made with their homemade Venetian cream. Absolutely divine!

This cheesecake was one of the best I've ever had! It was so good that I wish the slices were bigger. I got the marble one. I loved how you could actually taste the cream cheese and it was not overpowering. The staff was super friendly!

First of all, the decor in this place is so pretty! I met up with a friend to try the new cheesecake flights. The flavours were strawberry shortcake, London fog, Kit Kat, Crispy Crunch, raspberry lemon and Wunderbar. They were all absolutely delicious, my favourite being the Wunderbar. Perfectly chocolatey and peanut butter-y without being overly sweet or rich. I can't wait to come back and try more flavours in the future! All of the staff were so friendly as well! 😊

I dread having to go get anything on Quinpool. The traffic is a nightmare and the parking is scarce. However, if there ever was a reason to brave those fears it's Sweet Hereafter. Absolutely amazing cheesecake! Nice cozy atmosphere. If you haven't gone, do yourself a favor and go have a slice.

The restaurant boasts striking interiors and a terrace, making it an ideal spot for seafood enthusiasts and craft beer lovers. With friendly and knowledgeable staff, the restaurant provides a clean and comfortable environment for memorable dining experiences.
We enjoyed dinner on the patio at Pickford & Black, with a stunning view of the full moon...it was such a memorable experience! I was thrilled to find several vegetarian options and chose the Mediterranean Bowl, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. They also have a fantastic mocktail menu! The patio overlooks the water, creating a wonderful atmosphere to relax and enjoy your meal. If you’re looking for a great dinner spot, I highly recommend Pickford & Black!

Excellent service & friendly staff. We went on Sunday night at 7pm it wasn’t busy at all. But the food was waaaaaaay over salted. Temperature of food also could’ve been warmer than room temperature. We brought a guest from away with us so it was disappointing.

Great meal and great server! It was about a 5-10 min wait to get a table during the buskers festival so not too bad. The hostess wasn't friendly and looked super over it, but our server was amazing. I split the fish & chips with my kid and it was honestly the best I’ve had in a long time. It was crispy, fresh, and uniquely seasoned. The lemon dill tartar sauce and the fry seasoning were both sooo good. Unfortunately, the coleslaw was a miss for us definitely 0/10 there. My husband had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. He said it lacked seasoning, but once he dipped it in the seasoning from the fries, it became a 10/10 for him. We’d definitely go back for the fish and chips!

A beautiful spot for seafood lovers! 🦪🌊 This place specializes in fresh seafood and shellfish, and every dish tastes like it was made with care. The view is stunning, and the floral décor adds a unique charm that makes the whole experience feel special. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, perfect for enjoying great food with a drink in hand. Service is friendly and attentive, which makes you want to stay longer. Definitely a must-visit for both the food and the vibes! 🌸🍷

Best fish and chips I've had, and the best meal in Halifax. The fish was perfectly fried, cooked, and seasoned, nothing I would change. Even all the sides were amazing.

Let’s talk about tourism … this is the one establishment that did not discriminate against children. Everything closes early in Halifax and my kids are not used to not being allowed into a restaurant for food. The service and food was excellent. Ate here twice and I would highly recommend it! Especially if you are out after 8 pm with kids! Potato nachos were delicious and the brownie off the kids menu was amazing! Ben our server was knowledgeable and friendly and Nick the manager was genuine and real deal! Come here!

This restaurant is fantastic. The food was amazing and the staff were awesome. A big shout out to the assistant manager Nicholas Sauer for telling us the best sites around Halifax to go to and making our visit to the restaurant memorable. Erin our waitress was top notch and gave us the best service we've had so far on our vacation. I highly recommend going to this restaurant when your in Halifax. You won't be disappointed

Possibly the best mussels anywhere. Great service too. The patio has a fantastic view as it is on the boardwalk overlooking the water. The building could use some paint, but it is still a great spot to grab a bite and a drink.

Heartwood is a charming restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and an outdoor patio. It offers a diverse menu of local, organic vegan and vegetarian dishes, including appetizers, salads, sandwiches, veggie burgers, pizzas, bowls, and other entrees. The restaurant also features a kids menu and weekend brunch options. Established in 1995, Heartwood is known for its extensive selection of healthy and satisfying meals.
First time attending this restaurant. Was looking for a heath choice in dining. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and service. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their food. The food was delicious and plentiful. Never felt rush to leave or bothered by staff. The vibe is amazing with nice music playing in the background. Very laidback climate and felt at ease eating here. Would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a great healthy choice.

Service was not great, they completely forgot my coffee even though in between waiting one of there employees came out to ask us, we had to confirm with them two times for them to finally make it for us. The cookie s taste is good but texture is a bit off. Burrito was not wrapped properly, and has a taste of an old storage room.
Snow W — Google review
Absolutely terrible service, waited 40 minutes for a bowl and a burrito? Are they smoking pot in there?? 😅😂 food is also very plain I can’t even taste any salt or pepper or spices?? Shut this place down. The burrito has very little beans, the appeal is supposed to be protein, not putting a salad in a burrito, I’d get a wrap. What joksters. Half the bowl is rice for $18???
Allen V — Google review
I have always loved the food from Heartwood and make a point of ordering it when on the waterfront downtown. I do not normally write reviews and typically only write positive ones, however, I was so disappointed by the very little food received for the cost. I ordered the heartwood bowl with peanut sauce. The flavour was great but I can’t get over the tiny bit of food for $15.00. I’ve put a pic of my hand for size reference. This is a small takeout container; less than half full. There were 3-4 small pieces of kale with minimal other veggies. Mostly rice and a little tofu. I order here because I appreciate the healthy, veggie based and normally veggie loaded options. I brought my meal back to ask if it was “supposed” to be this small and was told it was. I will not be returning, despite wanting to support local, unless things change.

I went with a friend for lunch. I found it really dark in the dining area, and our server was not aware of the adjustments needed to be made due to a food allergy and was not very attentive. We ended up ordering the Guac and hummus platter, the nachos with vegan topping, and the wildcard pizza. Food was very good and we left full. I really just wish service was better
Victoria G — Google review
This place serves everything vegan and vegetarian. We ordered the Thai Burger which came along with some roasted potatoes and a side salad. The burger tikki was made with lentils and seeds. We also ordered a vegan pizza. The base was a kamut flour base. We were satisfied with the quantity and it sure fills you up! The sweet potato and apple soup was good too.
Ruchi S — Google review
They had very limited menu options when I went. Was hoping to get salad for my supper but there’s only one option. (which is “salad of the day”) The taste was ok, felt like pretty oily… even when I finished the dish, there was still a lot of oil on the bottom of the bowl. However I do like there atmosphere and patio. The servers were nice, just a little bit slow, it took almost 40 mins to get my food even there was not too many people. Still nice that there’s a restaurant for vegetarians on Quinpool tho.

I would seriously come here just for the hummus and guac platter, SO tasty!! So nice being vegetarian and being actually overwhelmed by choice at restaurant. I love it here! I come all the time because I live in Larryuteck & it’s guaranteed delicious. The service is amazing and the food is always 10/10. The olives are my favourite.. my mouth waters even thinking about them. Axel is an amazing Chef.. master chef worthy one might say & I was served for the first time tonight by the delightful Kaylie. She is a queen. 👸🏻 The absolute best option in Larry Uteck. Yummy food, great staff, clean restaurant and fast.. nothing to complain about & if you do- message me first😤

This place has to be studied. My sister Mariia and I were looking to have some great baked pizza and pasta on this warm sunny evening. And nothing except for the clean patio was good here. 1. The pizza dough was great, but the ingredient proportions were super off. We ordered Mediterranean pizza hoping to see lots of cheese and olives, but it was soaked with basil pesto and there was so much of it that we couldn’t taste anything else on the pizza. 2. The chicken pasta was awful. I expected an authentic Italian style pasta with different veggies and stuff but what I got is this “pasta” swimming in the pool of the sauce. I’m sorry but pasta made by a 5 year old would look and taste better, and this is a nice restaurant where it costs 25$. It’s just ridiculous. And the chicken was this huge chunk of meat which looked and tasted just like popeyes frozen chicken. It’s not restaurant level. We just tasted it and couldn’t touch it no more. Our dad will eat it. 3. The caramel tart also looked and tasted like a tart from a supermarket with some whipped cream on top. It was too sweet for me as well. 4. The customer service was ridiculous. It felt like the waitress kept avoiding us after we asked for the bill, we waited for a while. Then she brought us one bill, although I did ask for separate ones. After I said that again politely, she seemed irritated. After trying to pay with the debit card, she was hovering over me and looking what I’m pressing. And bingo! After I pressed “no tip”, which is my right to do + I was NOT happy with the service, she did not even try no more. She saw it and completely ignored my “thank you!”, didn’t even say goodbye or smile, just looked me in the eyes irritated turned away and left. Wow that’s some crazy work right there. Here’s how to improve: stop using cheap semi finished foods for your restaurant. It does not match the name nor the price. Less nasty sauce, more real ingredients. Train your staff to be friendly regardless if they’re getting tips or not
Daria H — Google review
I have no words. Such a scam. As an European, I was really excited to try out this restaurant, but I didn’t expect it to be that bad. My sister Daria and I ordered a Mediterranean Pizza, Chicken pasta and a caramel dessert. The pizza was okay, except for the fact that it had too little cheese and too much green sauce, but the pasta was so shocking… First of all, the pasta itself was undercooked (kinda hard to bite), and it was literally DROWNING in the red sauce. It had no cheese, no spices to it, just big and hard. The chicken was huge and tasted very, very bad. I couldn’t understand its texture, and I suppose it’s a semi-finished product, which is unacceptable for a restaurant. Also, there were pieces of cheese laying on top of it. It wasn’t melted or sprinkled on top, it was just laying on top. A piece of garlic bread given to it was a bit burnt, which is okay I guess. The caramel dessert was very small, and most likely bought from Sobeys, frozen, then melted and put some whipped cream on top of it. Not worth it at all, tasted very bad. Another thing to talk about is the customer service. The waiter that was serving us was very unqualified. We had to wait a lot for each of her returnings, and after we asked and waited about 20 minutes for a separate bill, she brought us one bill. After she finally returned with the correct thing, she stared at the debit machine intently, and after seeing that neither my sister or I gave her any tips, she ignored our “thank you, have a good day”, grabbed the machine, turned around and left. I think her behaviour was not acceptable, and genuinely speaking, I feel kind of sick after eating the food. I did not enjoy either the food or atmosphere in this place and paid 66$ for only two dishes and a dessert. This place is not worth the money or hype.

So after a few months we decided to go back and try Morris East one more time after our last experience was not great. Well I have to say we were pleasantly surprised! Kayla was our server and she did a great job, very attentive to our needs. The food was great as it always was. New menu for us...more selection of pasta. The feta dip is gone but its now the Artisanal Cheese Spread which was really nice. We both enjoyed it. We also had our usual pizza selection which was great. So happy to be back and have a enjoyable meal with great service. We will be back to try the new pasta dishes.

The staff were all very nice. And we enjoyed our dinner in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere which was really nice. I love the decors. The most impressive thing is the beer glasses. I can’t believe that they pre-freeze the glasses so the beer tasted more crispy. That’s awesome little thing but beat me the most. Really recommend and will def visit again! So happy to have such high leveled bar near home.

Wild Leek Food & Juice Bar is a trendy vegan cafe in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was founded by Kirsten Taggart, who transitioned to a vegan lifestyle and opened the restaurant five years later. The menu features breakfast burritos, quiches, fresh juices, and an all-day breakfast option. One of their popular dishes is the Titanic burrito which includes seasoned black beans, avocado, sweet potato, tofu scramble, chipotle sauce, spinach and pico de gallo.
Wow, I am very impressed! The food was absolutely delicious and I already know what I will try next visit. I had the Ultimate Club with delicious Dragon fries and a blueberry blast smoothie. Food is 100% vegan and very fresh. Great atmosphere, and the ladies working were very friendly and helpful. While I'm personally okay to eat gluten, they did have many gluten free options as well!

I mean, where to begin. First of all the service/people working here are truly warm and lovely. My server gave the best recommendations. My lunch was incredible. Best Ceasar salad I've ever had, hands down. Looking forward to one day coming back and trying the famous dragon fries. 😍

Nothing but positives. Friendly, attentive staff. Delicious food prepared quickly and served hot. Smoothies made with fresh ingredients. All items fair and reasonably priced. Limited seating during busy times but well worth the few minutes wait. Convenient location with lots of nearby parking. Will definitely dine here again.
Fred W — Google review
I've had a few things here over the past few days I've been in Halifax and I feel pretty good about my decision. I've had the choco-lite smoothie, wild bowl, titanic burrito, elixir juice, carrot cake, mac n cheese, and two different kombuchas (the lavender sage one and the rosehip hibiscus). My favourite things so far were the smoothie, mac n cheese, and dragon sauce. Unfortunately for me and my taste buds I found the burrito kinda of one note ~ I was hoping for more diverse flavours between everything that is in there (a symphony if you will). The carrot cake tasted kind of funny to me... it is hard to describe but I was expecting more cinnamon-carrot and to me it was a bit more clove I guess? I am not sure - I was also not a fan of the whipped topping. The wild bowl was good, and the dragon sauce really helped, but I do think it should come with one more little container as the vegetables and tofu are quite chunky and the rice isn't flavoured ~ so the sauce didn't go a long way and it basically ended up tasting like plain vegetables half way through. They do charge more for extra sauce so yeahhh... For me it would have been better if the veggies and tofu were more bite sized so I could get a bit of everything, instead of taking a big bite of broccoli or kale with some rice or tofu. Or maybe if the tofu was marinated (?longer)... I am sorry I am not trying to dissect the food ~ just wanting to share some feedback. The kombucha was great, local, and just a standard booch. I want to come here again one day (I am from BC) and try other things ~ I want to try the green juice! I love a good pineapple and greens juice :)
Sara D — Google review
Great menu for vegan food lovers. The the wild bowl is delicious with the dragon sauce being the mvp. I only wish it was a bit flavorful. For someone who eats flavorful and spicy food, the one tiny bowl of the sauce is not enough. I asked for extra sauce and was charged for it, which felt a bit unnecessary. I tried the chocolate and banana cupcake which was delicious. I also got their fresh juice (orange, ginger, citrusy one). The dining area is small so it will be crowded during peak hours. The staff is great!! The overall cost for the meal for one was around 50$ including the tip, which felt expensive especially given the small portion sizes.
Shruthi V — Google review
I have had food here before and it's very good but I bought cupcakes here today and they are incredible. I had to share how delicious they are. The chocolate one is dairy free and it's the best dairy free cupcake I've ever had and one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. The cake is so moist and the frosting is delicious. The strawberry one is incredible and also gluten free. Definitely the best gluten free cake I've had. Good texture and taste. Very impressed!

Slow service, flustered waitresses, drink order was made wrong (couldn't drink it it was so terrible). Only 4 tables in the whole restaurant, so a full house wasn't the excuse. Will walk to the many pubs to get drinks next time. I even had to clean the bar myself.. or it wouldn't have been done.

Real Fake Meats is Halifax's first plant-based butcher shop and deli, offering a variety of 'veggie meatz and cheeze.' Owner Lauren Marshall creates vegan versions of favorite dishes like the Smokey Maple Faken (plant-based bacon), made-to-order Veggie Donairs, and Crunch Wraps. The shop opened in January this year and has quickly gained popularity.
The BEST plant based restaurant in Halifax.....in Nova Scotia... in Atlantic Canada....maybe in all of Canada. I've been eating here since they opened. Today we had the Festive Poutine (on special), pizza rolls and a BLT bagel (add pickle, with spicy mayo). This place never disappoints. Lots of grocery items to choose from as well.

Friendly staff, lots of choices. Only 4 seats to dine in, and it wasnt busy. Definitely a take-out-popular place. Decided on a crunch wrap, and a Vanilla Bean cheesecake slice. Both were fantastic. We tried Real Fake Meats for the first time while in town. We decided to go another time prior to departing time since it was so delicious! I ordered the Crunchwrap on both visits, while my bf got the chicken wings (more like nuggets) and the ham and cheese sub. Everything was flavorful and filling. A definite winner for Halifax, and sad that I can’t eat here daily.

Went for the first time today, I had the ham an egger it was very good! I only got a picture of the breakfast menu side but the rest of their amazing food is on the back. They get you to order and pay first then sit down and eat which I didn’t understand, because they ask for a tip and how can you tip without knowing how well the service and food is. They have a lot of gluten free options which is amazing and lots of meatz and cheezes and baked goods / dips that you can buy and take home. I got 3 of their gluten free frozen dishes.

It’s really nice to find a vegan restaurant in the middle of Halifax ! Menu is very exciting ; we ended up having wings, buffalo noodles and donair bowl. Everything was pretty good, except the cashier forgot to ask rice or lettuce for the bowl and we noticed only afterwards that we could have had the bowl with rice 🥲 donair meat was also a bit dry, I didn’t really like the taste. My fav was def the sauce in the noodles !

Today I visited Creamy Rainbow Café and tried their pistachio croissant—and wow, it was incredible. It looked beautiful, with a chocolate-nut topping, and inside… the pistachio filling was so generous and absolutely delicious. I am a big fan of anything pistachio, and this one totally hit the mark. I also had a cappuccino, which paired perfectly with the pastry. Smooth, well-balanced, and just strong enough—simple to describe, but very well done. Both the croissant and coffee were honestly 10 out of 10. Highly recommend if you’re a pistachio lover or just want a quality café moment.

The place is quite expensive while some desserts are really cute. Me personally, I thought that more authentic Asian food would be available. This experience reminded me of watching a YouTube video because of the hyped title and finding that the content itself is not worth it. If you have no high expectations and just need a good place to have a dessert with coffee - it is totally fine.

It’s my Korean bestie’s and I one of our favorite places ever. I guarantee you that anything you get will be a 100% delicious. They always have a great selection of creamy desserts that are frequently updated and the drinks are supreme. My to go drinks are iced strawberry matcha and yuzu drink. Anyway, if you want a nice place with delicious desserts and drinks and reasonable prices- you won’t be disappointed with this one

Vegan restaurant
Springhouse, located in Halifax, is a haven for raw food enthusiasts. The establishment offers fresh and mostly raw meals and snacks such as the carrot cake smoothie, power porridge, and burger bowl. Additionally, it provides cooking classes, workshops, and delectable desserts. While it primarily operates as a takeout storefront at the Halifax Seaport Market, ample seating is available for patrons. Moreover, Springhouse stands out as the first plant-based grocery store in Halifax.
This is quickly becoming my favourite restaurant, we love it. We've always loved the breakfast burrito and the creamy tomato soup. Recently the added more items to their menu and it is even better. Loved the butter chickpea curry and the three cheese marinara. Can't wait to try the rest this menu. Everything is vegan / plant-based. The staff are great.

A nice and cozy place to celebrate special occasions. I celebrated my birthday here, and enjoyed the desserts. It was delicious like always🍰

While visiting Halifax recently, my friends and I were looking for some good vegan restaurants to try out and came across Springhouse in our searches. We ended up going for dinner and all love everything that we got. Everyone enjoyed their food so much that we went back the following day for dinner again, despite there being a lot of great vegan restaurants in Halifax that we also were trying out for breakfast and lunch, we all wanted to order what each other got the previous night. The food was reasonably priced, the server was incredibly sweet and everything was delicious.

This was our first time visiting Springhouse and enjoyed our experience. I ordered the burrito with a side of cornbread - which was the star of the show in my eyes. My boyfriend got the bbq chicken plate which he enjoyed. The only thing I’d note is that my burrito had too much rice in it, which made it feel more bland. Overall, it was still a good meal and a spot we’d visit again.

Stumbled into this place for my vegan friend and all the food we tried was just delicious! We had the dumplings, tofu "ricotta" toast (fav!), samosa, and sangria. Super cute place, will definitely come again!

A vegan, plant-based, restaurant with both savoury and sweet options. They have both cold and hot drinks as well. They have reasonable accessibility for mobility (there are two washrooms and at least one is accessibility friendly). There is lots of natural light. You can pay either cash or card/tap.

I had the mango creamsicle smoothie and my partner had the green dream smoothie. We were both really impressed with the flavours. We had lemon ginger shots for health, and ate two different chocolate dessert bars from the fridge which were heavenly. We brought back their coconut bacon and cashew parmesan to Ontario as souvenirs for friends. A beautiful space with very friendly staff!

My go to fave place when I am on my big long work shifts! Try the Breakfast burrito! You won’t regret it (tomato soup for the side - it makes a great pasta sauce if you can’t eat it all at once!) AND they sell soy curls. So good for Chickn’ stir fries at home! Psssst… their Caesar Salad 🥗 Is DELISH and they don’t add any oil to the dressing so it gives off those Perfect healthy vibes!
