A great neighbourhood pub in the back of Salamanca. A wonderful atmosphere inside and warm on a cool autumn day. A nice selection of local and mainland craft beers and a pub menu with a few different options. Friendly and attentive staff. I had the crocodile tenders which were on the specials board - yum! A good start to a few days in Hobart

Nice local place with a simple bar menu. Service was quick and the burger I had was tasty. They have a rotating selection of local beers, comfortable places for small groups to hang inside and a nice outside patio. There was a light rain as I was leaving that only lasted a few minutes and nobody outside seemed to care

Super friendly staff, great areas to sit for a meal and/or drinks. Cool how they've set the place up! Loved how the bus was flipped to dine in! Great place for vegans looking for a feed too, as they have options! 😄

Absolutely the best wings I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Super friendly staff too! The burger was quite decent and the selection of beers was fantastic. But the standout was the bloody fantastic steaming wings and the delicious loaded fries.

It was my first visit here and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience from start to finish. The employee behind the bar was nice, knowledgeable and knew his beers on tap well. He kindly poured a few tap samples of beer for my parents and explained the difference of the beers to give them comparison between the samples. The food was spot on delicious. I got the classic LA (and being from San Francisco, this did not disappoint). It tasted very similar to an animal style burger and fries from in-n-out burger (also an iconic staple of California). The dining room area is welcoming, inviting and very open. I saw a “book of beers” which was really fun to read through during the short wait for the food. There’s also a really cool outdoor seating area with heat lamps, and a decked out city passenger bus converted into an indoor/outdoor table and chairs so you could eat and or drink inside the city passenger bus! Haven’t seen this elsewhere and I’ll be returning tonight for another drink just to check out this bus in their beer garden. The atmosphere is fantastic for family dinners, dates, casual outings or celebrations. I highly recommend if you’re considering this burger joint, you will not be disappointed! Thanks to the kitchen staff and friendly guy serving beer and taking our order at the register. I also loved that they were supporting a non-profit to help dogs out in Tasmania (which is where our leftover change from dinner went to). And there’s really cool 3D art in the dining area. Open seating. It is important to note that you do have to walk up stairs to get inside. I didn’t see a ramp (in the event someone needed one), but I could’ve missed it on my way out.

Food and beers were on point, staff were lovely and the area was amazing. Will come back again.

We had a brilliant time doing an extended cocktail making course with Rowan. Course was really good value for the experience. This wasn't a cheap novelty gimmick, we actually learnt history and technique )as well as drinking a lot). Rowan is a top bloke who tailored the session to cover stuff we enjoy. We had such a good experience that we spent the rest of the evening enjoying the vibe, eating great fried chicken, and chatting with the staff. Highly recommend the bar - drinks and snacks are awesome. If you want to make great cocktails at home, do yourself a favour and email them to sort an extended cocktail course. 2.5hrs well spent.

I had a marvellous short stint here at the Rude boy. Our server Lily was warm and hospitable. The food was delightful, with special credit to the halloumi bites. Overall great little stop.

Stumbled upon this place while on our way to dinner. It was a lucky find, we enjoyed this place so much that we popped in again later in the evening for another drink and some fried chicken. Service with a smile and a welcoming environment, definitely will be back when next in Tasmania or see you guys if you have another pop up in Perth WA.

Stopped in for an early bite before shedding to Town Hall for a concert. Contrary to the name, the staff were exceptionaly polite and courteous. The music and ambience were delightful and the food was amazing. We recommend the oyster mushrooms, an absolute standout. Great work team we will return.

Jack & his team were awesome- we had a big group there for dinner & nothing was an issue. Food & drinks were amazing aswell! Will definitely be back when we're in Tassie next time.

Confession; I'm a fried chicken feind! Love this place, always try to sneak a visit if I'm in Hobart This is very high on my list of must visits if I'm in Hobart. I love the simplicity of the great food and epic cocktails. Its a no miss situation. It's got a funky Caribbean feel and I think it pulls it off. There is a lot to love about this place but for me it's the chicken🍗🤯🤯🤯

Nathan served us tonight with fun recommendations and delicious drinks. The charcuterie board was enough for two people to enjoy over the course of two drinks. A lovely experience once again. It made our night :)

This cosy spirit and whisky bar, located on the Franklin Wharf, Hobart Tasmania is a hidden gem. It overlooks the water and the bar is stocked with some of the finest local and international spirits. I’ve been to some pretty cool bars, but this is one one my best.

Evolve Spirit Bar is a Very trendy cocktail lounge at the Very trendy MacQ01 Hotel. Its interior is very comfortable, modern and a fantastic sophisticated place to have a classy beverage. It has a seasonal cocktail menu alongside all the usual favorites and n extensive spirits list from all over the world.

Hard to beat.. best old Fashoned I've ever had. Great bar, with a great atmosphere and even better people serving you. Not to be missed!!!

Hands down the best cocktail bar I’ve been too with the best tasting cocktails. The history and collections of fossils and artefacts in the bar. Went there twice over my visit to Hobart. The dark spirits whiskey cocktails are absolutely incredible & will definitely visit again

Unbelievably stunning fossile collection!!! Superior aesthetics with amazing drinks - we definitely had one amazing night in here. Had the whisky tasting flights and it was fabulous. Queen bee the cocktail was okay (a bit too sweet). Also nice table service and it’s not too busy or noisy - really suitable for a few drinks and conversation to just wind down for the night. One of the most worth visiting bar in Hobart.

What a beautiful place! Quiet little hidden find in Hobart, serving (apparently) only Tasmanian spirits. And what an incredible choice. Fell in love with a rum I'd never seen before, and tried an incredible whisky. Barman was knowledgeable and really helpful, but couldn't give out tastes of the spirits: this would have been easier and more fun to choose. But otherwise perfect!

Not sure how this place is 4.8. There is only a tiny section of the bar that is in the shop and trendy. The rest of the bar is in a very open indoor internal stair well. There was a huge out door area of wooden tables and chairs. Originally it was in the dark and finally the wait staff turned the like on. There was limited outside heating so dress warmly. There was an odd bath tub filled with red pillows. This would be great for groups that need a big table and can't get in anywhere else and don't care about the vibe. Walked to the bat to order. It took ages to get the wait staff to stop talking and take our order. We ordered mulled wine and whiskey of the week. Neither were very good. We drank the mulled wine and left the whiskey.

There are bars with a great back bar or cocktail list, but the vibe is “drink, then leave”. Then there are bars with personality, the sort of place you want to stay for one more - thanks to the bartenders. Gold Bar is the latter. Madelyn brings huge personality to the place, coupled with a great knowledge of Tassie spirits. Definitely a must visit for whisky or cocktail lovers.

Great find in downtown Hobart for tasting regional whiskys or enjoying well crafted cocktails, but the star of the show is the mixologist Lucas! Wow, what an asset to this place: so personable, knowledgeable, and welcoming. He should definitely be hired away by the Tasmania Distillers Association as their brand ambassador. We had a lovely pre-dinner cocktail at this fabulous bar. The bar staff know exactly what they’re doing and can make anything you like (without having to reference online! They just know!). Highly recommend.

Amazing place with no cocktail list but best cocktail maker in Hobart. Just tell Ian what you feel like and he will do something with some amazing ingredients from saffron gin to pavlova vodka to the all Aussie Nedgroni. And when you get peckish he will serve up one of his Mum's fantastic pies or some of her sausage rolls. A hidden treasure which I am sure won't remain hidden for long

Found it in the back street due to the renos. Maddy is an artist. She can interpret and fashion a treat for your tastebuds. Sometimes you just get lucky. (Oh and it's across from my hotel tonight)

Our family had a great experience here last week for dinner. Walking in, the bottles hanging off the ceiling created a cool and trendy vibe. The food selection is great with varied meat, seafood and veg options. Something as simple as the miso soup really impressed me! The cocktail was very delicious too.

My wife and I had dinner at Bar Wa Izakaya on our first night in Hobart visiting from Melbourne. One of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve been to. Onto the dishes, we ordered - yellow tail kingfish sashimi, wallaby wing-age, yakiniku platter, karaage chicken, okonomiyaki and grilled corn. Every dish we ordered we absolutely loved and could not fault YUMMY AND DELICIOUS, jammed packed with flavour. Staff were so kind, friendly and accommodating. The vibes were amazing and the glass bottles on the ceiling made the ambiance stunning. Highly recommend this place!!!

We spend our lives eating Japanese food in Australia and in Japan. Bar Wa has a terrific set up and fitout with great staff. Vibe is really good. Prices are great. A nifty spot with hidey holes everywhere - holds a lot of people but doesn’t feel crowded. The cocktail and drink list is awesome - if you can’t find something here to meet your needs you won’t find it anywhere. Unfortunately not certain the good made the grade. Whilst it was alright I couldn’t get excited. Maybe that’s just me being picky as we eat Japanese a lot. I’m sure most people would be satisfied with it so would recommend everyone try it.

5 stars for the drinks and 3 stars for the food. Cocktails have all been spectacular. No doubt on this. Food is just so-so. Too much bonito flakes for one, but we probably just ordered dishes that has it. The hibachi grill meats are good. Gyoza and oyster tempura are just ok. Overall, would come for drinks and light snacks.

Best restaurant in Hobart, but make sure you book early as they get booked out super quickly, even on weekdays! Everything we had was delicious, especially the Yuzu oysters and wallaby wings.

Strap yourself in for a culinary journey into the clouds. Started with some oysters, my toes curled up and my body started tingling because there’s a good chance I’ve never eaten a more delicious piece of seafood in all my years of life. I thought I peaked there but journeyed onwards to the wallaby wings and although I’m not a churchly man, I felt god come down and bless these pieces of meat with his own thoughts and prayers. Lily our lovely waitress sorted us with an array of Japanese cocktails which were to DIE for I can’t even describe how they managed to get the whole flavour of several fruits into one glass. Further into this euphoric eating experience, I had my tastebuds further blessed by the man upstairs when the scallops and uni arrived and melted so perfectly I had to check they weren’t grown in holy water from the heavens. Onwards we go to the meat platter where the trifecta of lamb, chicken and beef made me question why I ever try to cook anything myself when these blessed chefs can create and form of flavourful art that puts Michelangelo to shame. This place is the Sistine Chapel, the Notre Dame, the Pyramids of Giza all wrapped into a bundle of tastebud tingles and food that makes you lean back and pinch yourself to check it’s real. Everything is perfect. Go to Bar Wa if you are looking for the path to enlightenment; the road ends here.

I had a great time at Republic Bar & Café in North Hobart! The atmosphere was lively, welcoming, and full of energy. The live music created such a fun vibe—especially the artist who performed that night . The staff were friendly and attentive, and the service was smooth even though the place was busy. Drinks were well-made, and the overall experience felt vibrant and memorable. It’s definitely one of the best spots in Hobart for good music, a relaxed crowd, and an authentic bar experience. I’ll be back for sure!

We went for quiz night. Food was good , however I should have gone medium with my scotch fillet and not medium rare. The Jack Daniels sauce was amazing.

Saturday night at approx. 1045pm I was told to leave this venue by security after bar staff ordered them to make me leave. I asked why I was being asked to leave they told me "it doesn't matter why you are leaving now" I asked again why they would not provide me with an answer. After a minute or 2 of debate about why I was being made to leave the security guards grabbed me and threw me on the ground. Very poor form by the duty manger on the night and the security guards who could not use any form of communication and would rather try to use excessive force to make me leave the venue. For reference all i did prior to this happening was joking around wiping some chalk off a small blackboard that said "Private Party" which was well and truly over. We were just trying to sit by the heaters to keep warm on a windy cold night.

I haven't been here for quite some time so I thought I was about due to have a meal here. Staff were friendly enough and I decided to go a parma which I hadn't had for awhile. It was served with fries and salad. The food didn't take long to come and was quite delicious. But....... It did seem like the place could for with a good clean as the first table I came across was quite sticky to the touch. So much so I had to move to another table which seemed to be better, but not by much. Would I go back again? Not sure about that. Doesn't have the same feel it had a few years back.

Love it. Good vibe. Cool seating. Great food and the Service from Lewis today was very helpful, prompt and Funny! I love to go there when its quiet but you never feel pushed to order ...... Love the couch/old mirrors/chandelier corner and the drinks are quite well priced. Happy customer.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday at Mary Mary, and it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The drink menu is quite extensive, and I really enjoyed the tapas style, which allowed us to share dishes and sample a variety of flavors. The staff’s recommendations were spot on and added to our delightful evening.

Abandoned and neglected. Could’ve gotten better service at the local pub. AVOID THE BURGER, thick undercooked + unflavoured meat and dry bun. For such a nice/upmarket bar, the service was NOT up to par. Nearly two full plates of food were cleared from the table and not a question asked by the server. Then abandoned for close to an hour, seemed like other tables experienced this too. Water jug was cleared with entrees and no replacement. Wasn’t asked for a second round of drinks. We wanted dessert but I guess not. Maccas soft serve will have to do. Overall very disappointed, in the past the service here has been great and so has the food. Not sure what was in the air tonight, but clearly not good vibes.

A really great spot to unwind! The staff were very attentive, service was very quick, and the food and drinks were delicious. I typically enjoy regular cocktails and wine but gave the mocktails a go as I wasn’t much in the mood for alcohol but had booked ahead for my holiday. They were honestly so good that I didn’t feel like I was missing out!

Tucked secretly inside the Tasman Luxury Hotel, Mary Mary is a shhhhhh secret spot with speakeasy vibes. The ambiance is rustic charm with dim lighting and cozy nooks. It offers a mix of small plates. Their pizza fritta is a revelation — light, airy, and perfectly crisp. The scallops were impressive, seared to perfection and paired with a delicate sauce that complemented without overpowering also served in a shell. The ensalada offered a refreshing contrast. Crunch and lovable. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. Drinks were great.

For some of the best cocktails in one of the best historical and respected hotels a must visit and favorite weekly meetings place for drinks.

The service was average I think I have an espresso cocktail and it was very bland. And the scallops were okay, but Also a bit bland. Nothing really stood out. I like that they had like a fake fire. But apart from that, I wouldn’t really recommend it

Great design, food and of course beer! Had the venison curry puffs, Asian style cucumber salad, wallaby spicy skewers and tasting paddle of beers, all delicious. So good to see restaurants doing "game" meat justice, 10/10 would recommend

All the brilliant MONA vibes in a pub down in Salamanca place. Love the Moo Brew and also loved both the Szechuan fries (so spicy 🌶️) and prawn toast. Great vibes and service as expected ♥️

Great (half price) oysters! Amazing service! The variety of beers and cocktails were par to none! Jack made it an excellent experience and gave some great local knowledge. I would recommend anyone to come for beers, cocktails and food!

First time visitor as an Interstater to Manky Sally's and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tap beers were delicious and served by very hospitable staff who looked after our accessibility requests with zero fuss. The art decor out back is worth a Schooner in and of itself. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Share meals which were very different from the norm. Oysters were incredible. Sauce that came with the fish was too much though but in an ever changing menu some things are going to be better than others. I would suggest that staff offered advice on what share items go well together. Maybe that sauce from the fish wouldn’t have been so bad if another share item was creamy?

As Moo Brew's new location in Salamanca Place, Manky Sally's is an eccentric bar that also serves as a nano-brewery. Diners can ogle at the low, moody lighting as they tuck into creative dishes. The Albacore Tuna Tartare with pickled zucchini, snowpeas & crostini was light and bursting with flavour. We also had the Wallaby Rump Steak with chimmichurri and triple cooked chips, which were slightly underseasoned for my liking but overall tasty. The staff were very personable and accommodating, as well as knowledgeable on the alcohol and history of Manky Sally's.

Really lovely stop at The Den. Great choice of beverages, lovely food, and a great spot in front of a firepit with additional heating. Cosy place for a couple of drinks and some nice food. Really enjoyed.

Fantastic experience at The Den Salamanca! The young lady who served me was very attentive and made sure my meal was prepared without garlic, which I really appreciated. The service was excellent throughout, friendly and professional. The food was fresh and delicious, crisp fries, a refreshing salad, and perfectly cooked bites. The atmosphere is just amazing, with warm lighting, stone walls, and the fireplace making it cozy and relaxing. A perfect spot for both casual dining and unwinding. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

It's a great place to have a drink or 3 . The food is amazing. Try the Bao Buns . Live music on the weekend and lovely staff make this place a must try in Hobart . Did i mention the awesome Bao Buns ?? . There's an up stairs aswell for more seating and covered seatting out the front .

I had the crispy chicken bao and it was amazing, so good I want it again right now. Atmosphere was incredible with the mood lighting and all the wood on the walls and bar they had inside. Sitting outside also was very nice even if it’s cold (just have a puffer jacket). They had lots of space and a very nice bar. It really does feel like a den inside! It has asian food, mostly Thai and Singaporean. If you’re the kind of person who likes being comfortable and cosy i definitely recommend this place. The den is so cosy and nice I will be back again.

Superb ambiance, service, food & drinks. What more could you want. Pork belly bao was a major hit. (Also, trying to recreate their 'Ghost Margarita' cocktail at home... not the same - best fly back to Tassie I think ^_^).

What absolutely wonderful service! Koby and Keely were wonderful servers and bartenders. We ordered the old fashioned with smoked native botanicals and it was phenomenal, when most old fashioned are over sweetened and over diluted this one was perfect. Koby suggested wine to my taste and it was brilliant, and the atmosphere was so lovely. We booked by the fire and Brodie too our booking and had us sorted in a wonderful spot. Downsides: we went on Melbourne cup day and the venue was understaffed, completely full with two staff. Edamame sat on the pass and steamed until it was soggy, 35 minute delay on our red wine, 39 minutes for chicken skewers and we had to request napkins for food, and all the while a never ending stream of guests piled in between 5-6pm. After 6pm 2x more staff jumped in (which is exactly the time I would staff up a venue more considerably in the current climate) but by that time we had decided to move on as we only have one night in Hobart. Please staff up more for Melbourne cup day next year, but we will absolutely be back. Thanks Koby for making our night in Hobart special.

The Den is a beautiful venue — warm, inviting, and full of charm. The atmosphere alone makes it worth a visit. However, it’s worth considering what events may be happening nearby before you go, as the experience can vary depending on the night. We visited on an uncharacteristically busy evening — Melbourne Cup night combined with a university event — and unfortunately, the bar was noticeably understaffed. With only two bartenders trying to handle cocktails, beers, wines, and spirits for a full venue, service understandably struggled. As hospitality professionals visiting from Victoria, it was a little disappointing to have this be our one night out in Hobart. That said, when things are running smoothly, The Den has all the ingredients for a great experience. And if you’re lucky enough to be served by Koby or Keely, you’re in excellent hands — they know how to mix a solid drink and bring genuine warmth to the service. Overall: Yes, I’d recommend The Den — just try to visit on a less hectic night to really appreciate what it has to offer.

The lovely Louise behind the bar was very accommodating and made our night, with her bar-tending skills and hospitality. It’s fab to see such a great representation of Tassie hospitality when you’re new to an area. We can recommend the Margaritas and generous Aperol Spritz. Thanks Hotel Bruny!

Cute little bar with killer cocktails, we called in 3 times during our stay in Hobart as we liked it so much . The staff are really friendly and attentive.

Had a great night there with my partner. The two piece band were looking for ideas and played every request with gusto! The two magnificent bartenders kept us plied with some of the finest cocktails, rum and whisky I've had. On tap was a seasonal beer that I fell in love with. The venue is cosy, and comfortable. The bar - with lights under glass - shows off the skill of the bartenders with a reflective glow. The crowd a slightly older one. An easy ace to have a conversation without trying to shout over the top of music or other folk. One of the highlights of my visit to Hobart

Nicely done up place. Very friendly staff. We went with the intention to eat mexican but it was not operational due to a wedding downstairs, bit of a bummer :-( Korean vegetarian dumplings were delicious. Tempura Mushroom was lovely too... I really appreciated the heaters and the fire place

Went to the Hanging Gardens last week for the first time and I was in awe of the greenery and overall vibe of the place. There’s such a variety of food, drinks and music that inhabit your very being. Big shoutout to Queen Sheba, I had the Key Wot from them and, can I just say, I was absolutely blown away by the spice and flavour of the food. It was such an authentic meal and the owners were so lovely and happy to share their culture with everyone, and they cater to any and every dietary requirement. Definitely recommend giving them a visit! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

In the Hanging Garden (ITHG) is a unique partly outdoor venue that takes up nearly an entire block with multiple access points including one on Murray Street in the Hobart CBD. Within you find multiple tiered area with alfresco dining, standing room tables with high glass ceiling, a multitude of cascading and hanging plants, heaters and a fair amount of space for those visiting one of the eateries (Mexican, Deli, Pizzeria, Korean, Slow Comfort Food) or bars that are setup within the Hanging Gardens. We had dinner here one night during a recent stay in Hobart, found our Calabrese pizza that was quite good. Bar and wine served up from the downstairs bar was fine as well. Took seating upstairs near the central heating and really enjoyed the vibes of ITHG. This is a really fun place to meet up with friends afterwork or on weekends and a neat place for visitors to try while in the city. Would love to visit again next time in Hobart.

I just love," The Hanging Garden". Met up on Saturday with my dear friend and daughter. I always go to my favourite, Vegan Korean Tofu. It is absolutely delicious. The staff are amazing, and the atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly. Would definitely recommend for any occasion. See you guys again soon. Keep up the good work. 👍

Review: The Hanging Garden, Hobart The Hanging Garden offers an incredible experience that starts with an unassuming entrance on Murray Street but quickly expands into a vast, semi-open area as you walk further in. The space is stunningly designed, with a welcoming atmosphere and a variety of menus offering both food and drinks. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to see many families, including children, creating a diverse and friendly environment. It’s clear that this spot is perfect for all kinds of visitors, adding to its appeal. One of the highlights is the expansive communal seating area, which can accommodate hundreds of people comfortably. There’s even a stage structure, suggesting this venue is well-prepared for live events and performances. Without a doubt, The Hanging Garden is one of the best-planned spaces for events in the heart of Hobart. Highly recommended!

If you’re looking for a place to kill the vibe and be told off like you’re in detention instead of out with your mates, this is the bar for you. We came in to enjoy a few drinks, spend some money, and have a good time. Apparently, the crime we committed was laughing too loudly. Not shouting, not causing a scene, just laughing. Isn’t that the whole point of going out with friends? To relax and enjoy yourself? Instead, we got scolded by staff like naughty schoolkids. Nothing kills a good night quicker than being policed for having fun. The atmosphere went from buzzing to awkward in seconds. Drinks were average, service was colder than the beer, and the staff clearly care more about keeping the place funeral-quiet than letting people enjoy themselves.

WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE! In The Hanging Garden is one of the best concepts for an entertainment venue in existence. It is so Tasmania in the sense of the gardens yet adding a Melbourne like Laneway vibe. Adding 4 different types of delicious food vendors with drinks to match makes it the perfect location for an afternoon chill out session or a nice meal with food with friends or the family. A great location and a must when in Hobart!

I don’t review every bar I visit, but if I have a great experience, I’ll call it out. I arrived not long before closing (a time some bars are often reluctant to serve or welcome new guests), but Maddie could not have been more hospitable. Friendly, knowledgeable, welcome. Exactly what you want as a visitor. The selection of Tassie whisky here is incredible, and the fact they serve half-drams makes them a true whisky bar IMO. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Hobart!

I was recommended to check out this distillery and am glad I stopped by. The staff did a great job giving me history of the whisky, the company, and companies they purchased. I had two flights which had 3 tastes a piece and the flavors were quite varied, from smooth to putting some hair on your chest. When I finished my flights I knew what I wanted to purchase, but due to pricing I ordered one both bottle and one small bottle. The atmosphere at the bar was well done. My pics might not do it full justice, but is a cozy place to sip and enjoy company. It was also in walking distance if my hotel the Crowne Plaza Hobart.

The vibes, the atmosphere, the people! We came for some drinks and food but ended up staying for over 2 hours! There was a live dj playing while we were there and every single song was banger after banger. We had some of the smoothest whiskeys, gins and delicious tapas style plates. We got the chicken karaage, chorizo and patatas which went so well with the whiskey based drinks. The staff were so friendly and really enhanced our experience. Book a table so you don’t miss out but there was plenty of tables for walk-ins.

Great time here on a Sunday afternoon. Partner had an awesome experience trying lots of different whiskies and chatting to the staff. Bar food was also yummy! Highly recommended.

Great selection of Tassie whiskies, and really hospitable bar staff. Rez (did I spell correctly?) curated an amazing tasting journey for me, ultimately culminating in me finding something I can't leave without grabbing a bottle of. Highly recommended for all whisky enthusiasts.

Friendly staff . I had a flight of Gin and husband had a flight of whisky . Both enjoyed them very much . Atmosphere relaxing .

Vibes and music were impeccable, and the staff were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. Food was prepared fresh and we had good recommendations for the wine (see: mystery wine on the menu!) Apart from the alcoholic options there was also a very delicious non-alcoholic cider from PRAH that we’ve been unable to find at any other bar / restaurant since.

Just went here tonight! The food was terrific. Full of flavour, simple but also complex at the same time, so tasty! Staff were all so friendly and bad a good vibe going. They were so helpful in choosing wines and food (in particular this one waitress who helped me choose a wine and carefully went through the menu and helped with portioning sizing). Atmosphere was great. It's small, but it's cosy at the same time. Would 100% recommend and would definitely come again!

Good vibes all round with the long communal bar seating and intimate benches off to the side. Even the LP stand is a seat if you're keen! Wine list hits hard despite it's size and great value small plates.

Loved this wine bar! Bar snacks were great and had some interesting pours. Service could have been more attentive. Recommend getting there early not to queue outside, but totally worth it for the vinyl music and good vibes.

Good vibes, great service and nice cocktails. Oysters were yum but the other food was quite average for a pescatarian. About a 45 minute wait to get seated. Would recommend for a few drinks and some bar snacks over dinner.

Good vibes all around Visited alone and it’s a great environment to chat with new people at the communal bar It is very cozy. It adds to the vibes but it also means it’s quite tight in there, so be warned if you have accessibility needs. I also appreciated that Sonny is walk-in only (no resos)

10/10. No notes. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent, wine selection is carefully curated and the food is superb. Sonny is very small and intimate, has a beautiful understated interior and playing music on vinyls is the cherry on top. This is a must-visit venue for anyone with an appreciation for great food and wine (those with many dietary restrictions, this one may not be for you, sorry).

Been to 40 pubs in tassie, over 20 breweries and distillers, had a much higher content of alcohol then 10% and served me as much as I wanted. Walked into the Winston and was excited to try all the different beers they had on tap. The first beer I was going to have was a schooner 10%, the bartender says to me "it's 10% mate" I said " that's alright mate from Darwin think I can handle it" he said "sorry mate can't give you a schooner". When did bartenders tell you how much you can drink? Well Winston was the only place that did this. I'll know where to skip next time im back. Would have spent a good buck or two aswell.

Person taking food order not very friendly when asked about GF options and wine options. Only one option for Savignon Blanc. Not offered alternative instead of chips. Left after eating burgers still needing more food. Bought GF hot chips up the road!

As a spicy lover i tried Nashville wings which was so good and its a must try for everyone who loves spicy.

I wish I lived down in Hobart. This is such an awesome pub. Great atmosphere and decor. We don't have nice places like this in Lonnie but that might be because The Winston is one of a kind.

Nice brewery. Do not offer tasting paddles. They have a decent deal on wings, but I got 17 flats and only 3 drummies on a 20 wing order.

By now, you already know this is a pretty popular watering hole. I've been here plenty of times and each time, 5 stars. This American styled bar makes no effort to hide what it is, from the food to the art, this is 'murica at its best (Donald Trump Free). Plastered through out the venue is a range of American memorabilia and if that doesn't lure you into singing the Star Spangled Banner, the food bloody well will. I opted to have the buffalo wings (they have ATOMIC WINGS if you're feeling brave, I was not) followed by the buffalo burger. Have a look at the photos, like reaaaaallllyyy closely... looks good eh? Tastes even better! My mate had the classic burger and as per usual, polished that down. Plenty of options when it comes to grabbing a bevie while you wait on your meals (20 mins is what we waited for, pretty darn good considering it was packed) and if you're unsure about what to get, the bartenders are a wealth of knowledge and always willing to help. This is a must go to place and one that will truly be around for a while by the looks of things. Will be back. Will recommend. *UPDATE* 16/11/23 Made the time to come back to this lovely little local place as I had the deepest craving for buffalo wings. The food is still amazing! They've expanded on the gaming area giving the place an extra dimension. Personally, I like it. Games games games! I decided to put on my big boy pants and hit up the atomic wings. It's a day later and I'm still suffering. What goes in must come out so before you do this, know that life for the next 24 hours will be unpleasant! Still, bloody delicious!! I will be back. Guaranteed.

Awesome range of ales! The food is salty as a sailor's sweatpants, but some of us like it that way, and underneath the sodium, it's still filling and flavoursome! Full disclosure I used to work her, but that was over half a decade ago. It's my first time coming back as a customer, and good to see that the beers and food are still on point 👌

Moderate walk from the dock, past a few pubs and shops, leads you to Shambles. I question why it's so quiet, as the beverage selection is large and the staff amenable and knowledgeable. Ignore the ghost town vibes of north Hobart, get an Uber, rent a scooter or walk, as it's got some great tunes and better beer. Look I didn't do food as I'm a beer fella. So get in, and get some beer. Perhaps even some food. Certain this place goes off of a night time. Big hand to the crew at Shambles, and as I say, " you can live without love, but you can't live without beer!!"

Very good cocktails and service, but maybe not “great” cocktails. Glad we came and checked it out, it’s so much better than the standard Salamanca tourist-traps, but didn’t want to stay for too long either. Can’t comment personally on food, but the focus is on being a bar with a huge range of spirits and their own unique style which I thought deserved recognition, not really a food focus. I say go for a cocktail and judge yourself!

Very happy I got to this bar! Just around the corner from the Salamanca strip, it’s out of the ‘busy’ and potentially messy night scene. When walking in, it was a very spacious bar and beautiful decor that felt quite luxurious and industrial at the same time… The drinks were quick, the menu had some fun looking drinks and it was laid out well, and the service was awesome - I got greeted straight away. The shelves were amazing, so many spirits available!! Both cocktails I had were perfect for what I was feeling, and how they ‘should’ taste. That’s always nice (haha). It was a chill evening so got to chat to the bartenders about some other places in Hobart to visit and they had great spots that suited me. I also got to meet another lovely human sitting at the bar, so Society attracts nice people (bonus!). Would recommend popping in and having a drink here!

My partner and I had the pumpkin pizza, chip & dip, and two cocktails. The pizza fetta balanced with the soft pumpkin perfectly and the left over crust was delicious to dip into the hummus and dukkah on the 'chip & dip'. Thank you for a lovely meal and drinks🤙

Elegant bespoke bar with an impressive collection of spirits. Cosy, classy vibes, excellent service, and the most delicious baked brie. Also, on a Wednesday night, fun trivia and delicious tacos/nachos. Highly recommend.

My wife and I have frequented society several times. For our own evenings out or part of a group for the drag night bingo evenings. Every time we have been very impressed with not only the food and cocktails but also topped up with outstanding friendly and professional service.

Loved my experience here, from the atmosphere to the staff and especially the brew! What a nice vibe. Being an American and loving our breweries, I wanted to get a bit of a comparison. Definitely spot on!! The staff is super friendly and helpful, I had a flight and the team member was good about asking me my preferences. The outside is very family oriented and also great for large groups or just a solo looking to enjoy the atmosphere. Dog friendly and a food truck on location. My favorite was the Harbor Master but I enjoyed all I tasted.

Got a chance to try local beer here, I ordered Hobart lager which I guess the best beer on the menu since it carries the name of their shop and the city. The taste was okay for me but to be honest I liked Emu beer more which I got to taste while I was in Perth. Staff service was okay also, they snatch an unfinished can of beer of my associate which we bought in Liquorland and they said it was not allowed to bring / consume while in their premises. They actually did us a favor I guess because the beer we bought in Liquorland tastes terrible because it tasted like expired beer.

Great space! Huge indoor and outdoor area. Warm cider was perfect for a chilly winter day. Very quiet when we were there. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

Hobart Brewing Co is the perfect place to wind down after a busy day. Patrons can enjoy their drinks in the red shed or out in the neighbouring Red Square space with its relaxing vibes. There's a variety of food vendors for those who might get peckish in between drinks.

oasis for anyone who's sick of that fruity beer nonsense. I'm talking real beer here, the kind that makes your taste buds do a happy dance. They've got taps for days, and every one of 'em is a winner. A fire pit that's hotter than your ex's heart, surrounded by mates, good beer, and the kind of chill vibes that make you forget you're even wearing pants.

Quiet Sunday dinner, in an unassuming location. We ordered the Beef Burrito, as well as a Beef and a Pork taco. Additionally to start, we had Guacamole and Chips. Burrito was good, better than fast food Mexican. As were the tacos. Overall the mains were just good and fresh, as expected. The Guac and Chips tasted very nice, and fresh. Service was lovely, staff were kind. Venue was cozy and quiet for a Sunday.

Taco Tuesday is awesome. The staff are amazingly friendly. And if you have a registered assistance animal with you, they welcome them with open arms. The food is amazing.

We came here with friends and it was taco Tuesday, which means all tacos are $5,5. We ordered different tacos: vegan miso mushroom, cauliflower, beef, chicken, pork and halloumi and we were all pretty much on the same page about the flavour of all of them being too bland! Except from the hot chorizo and pork ones. Hot sauce was perfect according to the spicy eaters. The tortilla was nice, fresh and warm when served but the fillings lacked taste and were too small. Chips were great, think, crispy, warm. Guacamole and corn chips was ok and the corn cob was boring and definitely not worth $9,5. Many vegan options available which is awesome! Cocktails and mocktails were great but a bit pricey as well, around $20 each. Service was good, staff was friendly and quick to find us a seat and take the orders. I don’t think I would order tacos again but I would try some other sides and dishes as I’ve seen some good reviews about them.

Absolutely loved this place! Awesome food, great music, nice collection of spirits & top-notch service. Visited on a Tuesday and their $5 Tacos were superb, especially the Baja fish ones. An added plus is that the tacos are made using blue corn and they keep it simple, with none of that coleslaw BS going on. The Nashville chicken one was so-so but overall a fantastic experience and world definitely visit again!

Was highly recommended by the rum bar next door, Rude Boy. Not just them but by a few bartenders I’ve met around Hobart too. When bartenders are raving about this place, you know this place has to be good. Truth be told, I love my tacos and Mezcal. Hence, my picks below. Mexican Jewel - Such a well thought through and creative cocktail that came with a grapefruit toffee. . Battered Flathead Taco - Proper tacos house made, not store bought. Crispy battered fish with a light and tasty dressing/garnish. Loved it! . Los Agaves Green Label Mezcal - Was checking out the various Mezcal bottles and noticed this gem. Hard to source, strong in flavour. Think of chilli, lime and liquorice. . Special thank you to Leah for the great hospitality. Sincere, fun and knowledgeable. A trip to Grinners Bar is a worthwhile and highly recommended! Thanks team

RUN.. don’t walk! If you’re lucky enough to get a seat, kick back with a glass of wine, and watch the fabulous staff prepare your meals in front of you. The steak tartare is outstanding as was the tomato salad. But what really is special about this place is the staff.. we felt like we were dining with friends.

Interesting challenge for a wine lover visiting Hobart. No Tassie Chardonnay, in fact no wine list at all. Just leaving your trust in the team to get it right and make it enjoyable. They nailed it. A WA Chardonnay, an oxidative Italian 'Orange' White, a textural Alsace Field blend from Rohrer and a Beaujolaisesque Pinot from the Adelaide Hills. Beets and Feta, Wild Hare, Pork and Pistachio Terrine were equally as enjoyable.

It’s always our go to when in Hobart. Last night was full of atmosphere, superb food made with inspiration and local ingredients, and natural wines from Auvergne, Roussillon and the Jura. We can’t ask for more than that! thanks Kobi and staff for yet another unforgettable experience.

Awesome food, and friendly staff that’s eager to help. We tasted several different wines before we settled on one we liked. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and it’s easy to strike up conversations with strangers. We liked this place so much we ended up coming here twice in a couple of weeks.

Food was tasty and complimented the 'new world' wine offerings of from local and international producers. The wine service was interestingly collaborative even for BTG which was enjoyable and personal. A few of the finer details were overlooked which seem uncharacteristic from the most recent reviews but slightly tarnished our overall experience. However, we would consider returning when back in Hobart next.

Have been to the very best of places from NYC, London, Rome, Sydney, etc. This is the most fabulous hidden gem with an absolutely lovely staff. The beef tartare was delicious and atmosphere was fabulous!!

I found Lucinda while looking online for wine bars in the area and was so excited to go. Happy to say it lived up to my expectations. The server was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us pick out some lovely wines (a Riesling and a Chardonnay). The food was incredible as well. All in all one of my favorite stops so far.

A pretty good live venue. Acoustics are decent, whatever you're into position wise- its there for you. If you want to dance & mosh its there, if you want a semi close to band elevated standing but not moshing spot its there, if you want a seat with a view upstairs its there. Plus bars on both levels & toilets on both levels. Great venue

good bands come here but it is a really bad venue . They illegally accessed my camera looking for footage to delete . security are tense . they interrupted my show with Karnivool to stop me filming , despite many others filming . after the show the manager and security were waiting at the entrance to harass me to delete footage , even lying saying the band requested it though Karnivool had nothing to do with this . they claimed my cam was professional equipment but would not say why , a 720p handycam from 2010 . also accused me of copyright infringement , despite that the whole show was being recorded by higher quality cameras and phones in the audience . they berated and tried to intimidate me to delete footage cause they said they looked for it and couldn't find it , accusing me of switching sd card . the security claims she gave my info to police despite them being the ones who commited a crime . they would not clarify what makes my camera not allowed , as i had followed the rules , they said they can enforce arbitrary rules so then how are u supposed to know what's allowed ? spent over $200 for me and my gf to have a good time and they kinda ruined it for no good reason . I'll follow through with a complaint and attempt to get my money back or some kind of recompense . I've been to heaps of shows here , it is dark grimy nasty biker place . if there is a fire i bet they would not be able to evacuate quickly .

You can’t refuse water at a bar 👎🏼 If you want to serve it in a glass similar to a champagne flute that’s fine but when customers ask for another glass you can’t tell them they had enough and that you don’t want them throwing up in the bar 👎🏼 It’s all fine while you’re still selling them alcohol though 👌🏼

Probably one of the worst clubs I've been to in my life the party life was dead in there. There was barley any people the music was all cheesey the place stank of BO the staff and bar tenders were rude was not pleased with overall service and will not be going back again

Went to their Wednesday acoustic night twice. First time the singer wasn't even getting the lyrics to his cover right and sounded drunk, and the second time the gig was cancelled without notice.

Hands down one of my favourite places in Hobart to see and perform live music. Good staff, good crowds, nothing but good vibes!

I lived in Hobart for just over a year, and Twisted Lime was the literally the only place I would ever spend my weekend and weekday evenings. The free pool table is a great touch, I would spend hours every night playing game after game. I do not think there is any other place that has free pool, even in Sydney, I struggle to find a place with consistent free pool. The layout and design of the place provides a unique tree house atmosphere that I have never experienced anywhere before; there is always some nostalgic movie or series playing on the television that you can watch and enjoy during weekday nights, a gaming console with games like tekken, the Simpsons, or Mario kart to enjoy, and a newly created arcade machine filled with 100's of games to play. The music events on weeknights are so varied that every weekend is something worth going to. I met dozens of interesting, beautiful, and kind people during my nights at Twisted Lime. After a while, it got to a certain point where I would rather spend my evenings at Twisted Lime, than at home, because the people, staff and patrons included, were far more entertaining, welcoming, fun, and chill to be around that to be at home. Even when I had no one to go with, I knew that the staff and others would always be willing to have a yarn and get to know you. The only reason I miss living in Tasmania is because of this place. Can't wait to visit you guys again for dark MOFO and Halloween. Thanks for all the fun times in 2023.

I come here everytime when I am in Hobart, I like a quiet atmosphere in bars, somewhere to relax and reset and have a nice whiskey neat to top it off, with friendly staff especially the bar manager, great personality and bar etiquette. Situated in a lovely spot right next to the dock. I haven't eaten here yet, but must be rather good it's always full in restaurant, when I am there.

Great venue for a few drinks! Tried most of the cocktails before heading next door for dinner. Live music. Wonderful service. Great atmosphere! Mood lighting! Loved it!

Worst customer service on the Hobart waterfront. Came in today for lunch and was fobbed off by the waitperson for atleast an hour while we watched other people get served almost straight away, We decided to leave and just pay for our drink. We went over to Mures where we had a great lunch and received equally good service.

4 of us went to the story bar last night(saturday) at 9 there were another 12 people inside and 6 outside. We were told by the manager it was last drinks at 10. We would have had a couple more drinks and at least 20 people came to the locked door and turned away as evolve spirit bar was closed for a private function. Come on Hobart do better!

The Sunday surcharge of 15% did suck but otherwise, the prices are fair and the food was amazing. Would go back

A rustic pub with a lot of history! We dined by their open fireplace and it made for a very cosy atmosphere. The food was excellent for pub standards and beautifully presented. I did find the seafood linguine a bit too oily, but everything else was on point. Very friendly service and the food came out timely.

Fabulous pub! The oldest licensed one in Australia so we had to have food and drinks here. Was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We had the mushroom arancini balls to start (huge serving of 4 pieces) hubby had the seafood chowder and I had the fish of the day. Nice drop of Habour Master too! Highly recommend you book and cant thank our wonderful waitress Azra who looked after us!

Great find stumbling on to the oldest licensed pub in Australia and it has the atmosphere to boot! Lovely old rooms with a nice selection of brew on tap among other drinks. The cozy room with a fireplace and a burning stove insert is perfect for atmosphere. There is plenty of seating and a delightful menu serving various local dishes as well as pub food. Staff is phenomenal-hats off to the nice English lady who works there, it was a pleasure chatting with her!

My family and I (7 of us) came here to have a nice meal together. And we a thousand percent did!!!!! All of us enjoyed our meals. The Caesar salad looked delicious (the person next to me ordered it and said they really enjoyed it, it had a good amount of dressing on it). But most of us ordered the chicken Parmi. OMG!! One of the best parmi’s I’ve ever had!! The chips and salad were perfect. But the main star was the sauce on the parmi! Absolutely to die for! The cheese was delicious and I was extra lucky coz my Parmi came with some crunchy flakey cheese on the bottom🤤 so delicious. I wish I lived in Hobart coz I’d be addicted to their Parmi’s. And then we had the amazing idea to share some Sticky date dessert. Again absolutely delicious!! I’m so glad we tried it!! I really struggled to share it with the rest of my family 😂😂 The staff were all really nice and helpful and friendly. Oh! And the meals came out looking a lot nicer then the photos show. I forgot to take photos before we dug into the meals 😂😂

Visiting from Brisbane & had a Tassie family get together here. The service was great, atmosphere was great but the smoke from the open fires was stinging a few people’s eyes. Just cracking a window open a little near the fire would have helped. I had the 200gm porterhouse steak, it was cooked to medium perfectly 👏 the chef. I meant to ask if the chef is Ceoliac because pretty much everything on the menu had a gf option . All the deserts were gluten free, can’t remember the last time I had a gf sticky date pudding? It was bloody amazing ❤️ I highly recommend dining here 👏

The New Sydney has long been an institution and go-to pub for several decades....and for good reason. Conveniently located, good range of food options, plenty of beverages to be had, cosy atmosphere and live entertainment on offer. On this occassion I decided to stick with the more traditional pub food and went with a chicken parmy with chips and salad and a pint of pale ale to enjoy it with. All up it came to about $45 with the meal being delicious and more than ample. It was very busy but food came witin a very reasonable time frame. Within the walls there's certainly plenty of character and a comfy atmosphere. It was a cold night so the warmth within was defininately welcomed. Staff friendliness adds to the atmosphere. Wether it's a meal you're after, a few drinks or just somewhere to meet up and unwind then you can't go wrong here.

We went here for a family meal on Sunday, it was a 28° day and the poor staff informed us when we walked in that the entire tap line was down, no tap beers available but they had gone to the local bottlo and bought bottles and cans of beer and cider to try and ensure thet had options for everyone. Despite how stressful this must have been for them all, the staff were lovely, accommodating and clear about what they could and couldn't do. The food was classic pub-grub, generous and hearty. One of our guests said the stickydate pudding was the best they ever had. The wine list nice and long with local options and the live music was a nice touch, if a bit downbeat for a sunny afternoon.

The Porterhouse steak was excellent and cooked very well. The pub had a older traditional pub atmosphere and was very popular. It's not a big place but very cosy and has a open fireplace. Definitely an option for adecent selection of drinks and tasty food.

Went today for lunch. Stumbled across this pub whilst looking for a decent lunch in Hobart. Hayden was amazing. Excellent customer service with a sense of humour. Food aso was delicious. Pork shoulder was super tender, as was the squid. Barrel aged stout was the best stout I have ever tasted.

What a wonderful little pub. It's very handy as it's right in the middle of town. We went Thursday for drinks and loved it so much we booked dinner there on Friday night. One ordered the pork knuckle, which was amazing - the only thing that could have made it better would have been crackling. I ordered the porterhouse steak cooked medium well but was Disappointed that it came out medium rare. It went back to be cooked a little more and was then overcooked, but I expected that. I still ate it so not all lost. The staff is amazing and so friendly. The pub has so much atmosphere with an open fireplace and an outdoor laneway experience for those who wanted the cold. Well definitely go back next time we're in Hobart - Loved the New Sydney lager, great beer!!!I

Great traditional pub in centre of Hobart. Beer pretty good and friendly locals, Sunday night singer in the bar was a nice addition (not too loud). Rated the Guinness pie w mushy peas, like being home in the UK.

Cozy little pub in the heart of Hobart. Had the Sunday roast, pigs ears, irish spring rolls and steamed veggies. Every single dish was cracker!! Pigs ears are the perfect snack to pair with a good pint! Definitely coming back every time in town!

Everyone come here for some good drinks specially wine but we go there for their delicious pizza specially their barbecue pizza it’s with sweet barbecue sauce chicken and pineapple. That taste was amazing and we recommend it very much. If you want to try some good pizza in Salamanca area.

It was our first day in Hobart, Tasmania, and we had a great experience at this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious — we ordered steak, parma, and a kids’ meal. All the portions were generous, the quality was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. Friendly service too. Highly recommended!

When I saw the menu online I was quite excited, both the food and wine selections looked very good. And whilst I have no complaints about the drinks. The food was below par. For a venue that offers premium wines their food falls short of expectations. We ordered the Croquettes, Buratta and Lamb Ragú pasta and the only one that was somewhat decent was the pasta despite looking very un appetising. Croquettes were dry and flavourless and the sauce didn’t help much. The Buratta was worse, I’m not sure how it’s possible to have dry Buratta but they did it, the stacciatella should be wet and creamy and it was quite the opposite, the flatbread was stale and hard as a rock and the tomato soup was no compliment to the buratta. Atleast the pasta tasted good but honestly the rest of the food made me loose my appetite. I hope this was not the usual experience for most people because it was very poor.

My husband and I came here for a weeknight dinner and sat outside to people watch. The bartended was nice and able to recommend a beer for my husband. We ate a steak sandwich and chips and a caesar salad. Both meals were fantastic, and the heaters helped us stay warm as the evening chilled.

This establishment is truly charming, boasting a delightful atmosphere. The service is exceptional, and the food is good quality, reasonably priced. they also have the biggest wine list and cellar I’ve ever seen so if you’re a wine lover this is probably your place. The interior provides a warm and cozy atmosphere with ample seating, and there’s also a terrace outside. I highly recommend giving it a try. if I was to eat here again, I would get the pizza. Everyone seems to have pizzas and they look amazing.

Let me tell you….. Tonight we wanted pizza and Sangria!!! And we found the best place to overcome our hunger and wishes, the gluten free Calabresse pizza was absolutely delicious, the sangrias were nice and fresh perfect accompaniment, and the service of high standards, we enjoyed our night out in Hobart. Tasmania has the best gluten free food!!! Thank you all!!!

This is a great place to sample local wines, but our favorite thing was their fantastic little pizzas. We got the mushroom which was fabulous. It's also a very attractive place to sit and enjoy and drink and a meal. Highly recommended, and a must-do for pizza lovers, but beware that it gets crowded at peak hours.

We were genuinely excited to have lunch at The Whaler, a well-known spot in Hobart with a lunch menu that sounded great especially the famous lobster roll. Unfortunately, the food turned out to be overly salty, to the point where it was difficult to enjoy. When we politely shared our feedback with a staff member at the bar named James, who was sitting with a woman named Ella, the response was surprisingly dismissive. James said, “Most Australian foods are salty,” which felt condescending, especially since one of us is Australian. Ella laughed, which made the moment feel even more uncomfortable. We weren’t looking for a refund or a replacement just offering honest feedback. What made the experience worse was the way we were treated throughout the interaction. There was a distinct lack of professionalism and respect, which left a sour taste, far worse than the salt in the food. Great food means little when hospitality is lacking. We were a group of friends hoping for a nice lunch out, but sadly, we left disappointed and unwelcome.

Dropped in for lunch and a few beers. The house lager was suggested as their most popular beer and didn't disappoint. We had the lobster roll and mussels. Both were excellent although on a cold day, sitting outside, the mussels hit the spot.

The atmosphere is very darkly lit. The Aussie burger & fistful of fries was a generous size. The bowl of mussels came with two large slices of bread. The broth had a good chili zing but was overly salty (& I like salt). Also, unfortunately, it had a few too many unopened muscles in the serve. As a rule, it’s unsafe to prise these open to eat them. I felt it was a disappointing meal. $70 for two meals, a rum, & a soda water.

The gluten free lobster roll was 10/10 and the chips were great too! I had an amazing Bloody Mary and also some kind of delicious grapefruit cocktail. I’m here visiting only for a few weeks but I’ve been back multiple times for the lobster rolls already, they’re so darn good. The staff are lovely and very kind too. The whole bar has a great vibe and awesome atmosphere. Definitely a must visit!

My husband and I just flew into Tassie for the first time staying in Hobart tonight, everywhere was closed for food but the whaler was open as arrived a couple of minutes before kitchen closing, the very patient and kind staff took our order for dinner. Food was delicious has the squid and double cheese burger.

Cold, rainy and dark in Hobart tonight so we decided to try the Telegraph for dinner and I am very glad we did. We had booked a table in the 1st floor bistro which is warm and cosy. Service prompt and friendly. We share the mussels entree to start which was delicious, then made the most of the excellent value Monday steak night. The best pub steak we have had in Hobart for a few years. We also shared a side of the roasted cauliflower with mozarella and Parmesan which was delicious. Desserts also lovely - basque cheesecake and poached pear. Overall a great evening with really tasty food…

Caleb was very lovely and very friendly, he even helped us out when we moved tables. Astrid is always amazing what do we expect honestly. Especially how she’s always so bright yet savage. From the moment we walked in, Caleb made us feel like VIPs—his energy, charisma, and attentiveness were unmatched. The event was hilariously entertaining, full of great vibes, and expertly run. Institut Polaire offers fresh and amazing food in a lovely atmosphere. Their scallop sashimi is phenomenal—nicely balanced. The prices are reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients and the portion sizes. The service is outstanding, with staff ensuring every aspect of your experience is well taken care of. It's definitely a place you'll want to return to. Good choice for dining in groups, dates, or solo dinners.

Simply superb in every facet. This was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The staff were fantastic - knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. The wine suggestions by the team were spot on and paired perfectly with the food. We enjoyed a bottle of German Riesling, and a local Pinot Noir that were both sublime. The food was unbelievably good. The raw scallops were a particular highlight, as was the rest of the fruits de mer. The caviar service was well worth the extra cash, the blinis were to die for! I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed this place but if you take anything away from this it’s that you simply have to go! I will be telling all my friends about this place, and would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Sensational.

I have been waiting to eat here for a long time and was not only not disappointed but blown away by the high level of service and innovative food as part of my seven course meal. Each course build upon each other and after 90 minutes I had thoroughly enjoyed simply one of the best meals I have had. And the portions were plentiful. Highlights were the scallop sashimi, heirloom tomatoes, snapper and an incredible whisky caramel tort. I ate by myself but the highly trained staff kept me informed and more importantly, very welcome and engaged. Highly, highly recommended!

We stumbled across here by walking down the street and stopping for a drink….ended up staying for dinner and the crab pasta was to die for. Absolutely incredible. Great soundtrack in the restart, friendly staff and great cocktail and wine selection. First stop for dinner next time we are in Hobart!

We went to Intuit Polaire for their martinis - which were exceptional! We decided to try a few smaller food dishes to share ... and what a pleasant surprise they were! Absolutely beautiful food too (we had fresh oysters, the Tuna Carpaccio and some Bodega toast) - as good as any fine dining restaurant! The staff were super friendly and very accommodating too. You must try the "cigarette martini" (if Lagavulin were to make a martini - this would be it!) Loved the experience souch we came back a second time a few days later! Loved this place!

Easily one of the best dining experiences we have had. The food, ambience, service, drinks & dedication to their craft is of the highest standard. Every dish was divine. We visited Institut Polaire on a Friday night to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. After hearing glowing recommendations from several friends, we were eager to try the feed me menu — and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. The intimate setting, exceptional food, and beautifully crafted drinks created the perfect celebration. The standout dish for us was the tartare, closely followed by the snapper — both absolute highlights. If you’re still reading, do yourself a favour and book a table. Came here with a large group of friends on a Friday night and it was the perfect choice! There were so many food choices and we all enjoyed trying each others’ picks. The prices varied, there were some cheaper options as well as more expensive. They had live music and we all danced to it after eating. It was a lovely way to spend an evening. (It’s also hyper-local and zero waste!)

Friday afternoons in march and April it would not be prudent to be anywhere else ! The band is at a nice comfortable level to be enjoyed but not to overwhelm . It’s good to see people attending and enjoying a free event with options for enjoy food stalls from all different places !

Top notch experience, a must try on a Friday night! Markets themselves are really professionally run. There was live music, a selection of around 15 food vans and security and cleaners around making the event really well run. There was a strong selection of Tasmanian alcohol and seafood as well which was another win. Very strong recommend from me!!!

Wowee! Visiting from the mainland and was blown away by this place! Band was cranking, food was everywhere with such a range of choices and beer/gin flowing. Atmosphere was electric.

The paella was amazing, the best I've had actually. I feel as tho the general seafood you get here is very high quality. May need to line up for a bit is the unfortunate reality so make sure you grab a friend or speak with the friendly locals :)

Came here for dinner shared a few small plates. Over all was nice. I loved the cheese bites. Then I also loved the rare beef! It was more blue the rare! Chicken skewers were amazing too! The squid was spicy some where a little rubbery but over all nice! It’s got a lot of history in the building. Josh was a fabulous waiter!

We were actually trying to go to Sonny at first but honestly no one even looked at us like total tourist vibes😓 Ended up stumbling into La Sardina Loca instead and wow… what a hidden gem! Way more relaxed space and the “rare roast beef rump”was insane😱🩷😱So good we didn’t even stop to take pics. The oysters and seafood were also super fresh, all gone in minutes. Definitely one of the best surprises in Hobart!

Had a fantastic time at la sadina loca the other night. food, drinks, service and atmosphere was amazing. quality of food for the price was excellent value. josh mainly served us and he was professional and polite from start to finish. we had an issue with our debit cards at the end, and he was incredibly understanding made us feel trusted - something that was very much noted. we’re looking forward to returning and would recommend to anyone who appreciates great food/drinks and warm service.

Tucked away down an alley is an inviting outdoor area perfect for catching the sun; inside you will find intimate dinning spaces suited for dinning alone or as couple - there are also areas for larger gatherings. The menu suits my grazing eating style with many options to choose from; staff are welcoming and attentive. I have enjoyed the court yard in the summer and the cozy inside space to escape from Hobart's blustery October windy weather - lovely centrally located restaurant.

It was so good we came back a second time during our trip of only 4 days in Hobart. The venue is gorgeous with beautiful red brick walls and fairy lights, some cute olive trees in the courtyard. I felt like I was transported to some village courtyard in Italy. The food was exquisite and so stunningly presented and the service top notch! with beautiful and warmly welcoming staff members. We had several shared plates from the menu including oysters (which were deliciously fresh and tasty), fish of the day, etc but my absolute favourite was the dish with goat and pea puree. I love all the ingredients in that dish and would have never thought of putting them together. Everything was such a delight to the eyes and to the taste buds. Highly recommend and will definitely make a stop next time I'm back in town.

Whilst in town, my partner and I popped in for a nightcap cocktail and perhaps a dream or two. Was still early and a cool jazz band was just setting up. Bar staff very knowledgeable on their drinks and we had a bit of a chat about the cocktail menu. The atmosphere was a bit tight inside but very cool. There was an area outside that had extra seating but we did not stay out there long. We couldn't stay for too many but enjoyed ourselves and will definitely come back. Worth checking out

Pablo’s has such a cozy and inviting ambiance—perfect for a relaxed night out. Their mocktails were amazing (crafted with so much flavor and creativity), and the highlight for us was jazz night. The set was absolutely incredible and had such a great vibe, we honestly wished we could have stayed longer. Definitely a spot worth coming back to!

Do not get the Sage cocktail 🤮 apart from that one everything was lovely. One staff member didn't even know which glass to use for wine though which wasn't very professional. That being said he was in training... Great music, great vibes.

We explored a number of bars in Hobart, and unfortunately, this was the only one that left us disappointed. Despite a promising description online, the reality fell flat, the drinks were overpriced and underwhelming, and the atmosphere just didn’t hit the mark

Great atmosphere Saturday night. A good mix of talent/ music techno/house from all over. Beer is a little pricey and nice decor. This place would be awesome with a smokers/courtyard!!

Went for a night out with a friend visiting from another state. We paid $22 each for entry and were served by a very rude bartender who refused to make us cocktails, right after serving two white patrons theirs. She said the bar was busy, even though there were only about five people in front of it, including us. The gin and tonic we were given tasted like mostly ice and water. We ended up leaving as soon after we went in, disappointed and feeling like it was a complete waste of time and money. Overall, a bad experience and definitely not worth the visit.

Finneas and Chloe are the best bartenders I have come across in Tasmania. They’re so much fun and I would love to have more of these attentive and welcoming bartenders in this world

Great coffee. Best cheese toastie on the island. Food offering often seasonally appropriate (rare for a cafe!) and always delicious. Lovely wines, fun cocktails, and a delightful spot to relax and people watch, regardless of the weather. Run and staffed by good humans. Highly recommend.

This gem is "hidden" away at Brooke St Pier which just happens to be the gateway to the MONA ferry. It also happens to have an incredible outlook over the waterfront and city that is hard for anyone not to love. The food here is always just what you wanted, and the homemade cakes shouldn't be resisted. Coffee hits the mark every time. The wine and cocktails are an added bonus here and better quality than most places in town. The service is warm and efficient and always leaves me feeling appreciated. Great spot for all ages and next to the waterfront carpark that always has a few spots to park conveniently. Come for the coffee, stay for everything else on offer.

I rate this as my favourite bar in Hobart. We saw The Empty Threats, The Peep Temple and Teens there during Dark MoFo and feel in love with this venues. It felt like the best kind of 90s grunge bar. The staff were awesome and we'd go back in a heartbeat. I'm sure they have kicking live music there all the time. Definitely worth a check out if you're in town.

Dark grunge vibes for dark mofo festival. $6.66 drink specials worthy of mention, and some bar snacks available. Indoor and outdoor seating. Cosy indoors, plenty of armchairs and couches too. Worth a visit for the spectacle.

Just superb with a very cool atmosphere! The first cocktail I got wasn't completly to my taste (it was nice, but sweeter than I normally like). I mentioned it to the barman and without hesitation he offered to make a different one free of charge. I haven't been to this venue for a few years, and it has changed since last time. They previously had a pool table, which is sadly gone, but aside from that and some Minor menu and aesthetic tweaks, the vibe of the place has remained consistent and excellent!

What a funky bar! When you pass through the coffin inspired door, you’re transported to another world of the undead. Amazing cocktails, friendly staff and all round cool vibe to the place

Found this awesome bar by accident. Cool artwork and the bartender was really friendly. We got the pork nachos special shared between 3 and followed that up with the chicken bites and fries. Everything was yum! We had a couple of margs and they were up there with some of the best we have had!

A very cosy bar, love the decor, love the bookcase. Staff are friendly. Planning to take a few friends for a few drinks. Great place unique and different.

Cosy, welcoming decor/mood lit bar. The type of place you'd dream about in Amsterdam but Hobart here you go...& be welcomed by all. Great port (he he), patronage , movies screening, pool's up with anyone, fun for all ages & all walks of life. Chill & hang with exceptional hospitality & wit from Dean running the bar.

Awesome secret gem with cool decor and surprises, board games, a pool table and great cocktails! We really enjoyed ourselves and the prices are fair especially on some of the nights where there are special deals! Look for the secrets behind the bookcase

Incredibly disappointed with Ivory. The top tier staff are rude and dismissive (or choosing to ignore the very obvious presence of assaults, unhidden drug usage/sales) paired with a dirty venue (think vomit, sticky everything and quite possibly the most disgusting toilets I have ever seen). This happens to also be the only venue in Hobart where I have had someone steal items out of my bag (on my body). Seems to cater to a specific type (eshays, bogans and people trying to flex some sort of wannabe lifestyle) and I certainly won't be returning.

It's an okay place, the bartenders are nice and the drink prices are good. None of the toilets have locks in them or if they do they're broken so they can't close which sucks

Don't bother. I don't mind being refused entry to anywhere, but no need to be a snippy little bish about it. PS: I have been let into Hillsong Church wearing the same clothes....go figure!

Absolutely horrible place, vomit on floor, door staff rude and would not even let me remove drunk patrons safely - said it was safer to leave them there - as if!! I had only had two drinks tonight as the designated driver ...

Literarily were rejected by a female bouncer number '99' for the only reason that we were 'from the mainland' she said we could enter only if we produced Tasmanian ID

bar staff are great, just look out for the big egg head doorman the looser has let the power go to his thick polished head..

Bouncers can't control patrons spilling out around surrounding businesses and trashing their front entrances.
