When in Taipei, make sure to visit SHI YUN Taiwanese Fried Chicken Main Store for a delightful culinary experience. The most popular item on the menu is the salt pepper chicken, which comes boneless and generously portioned. While the seasoning leans towards the lighter side, the overall flavor is satisfying. The fried calamari and sweet potatoes are also available but may not be as impressive as other offerings. For a fun dining experience with friends, consider trying out their variety of fried items served on paper.
Been here countless times during my stay in taiwan few years ago, and just came here again recently. The food taste didn’t change at all, it’s still one of my favorite comfort foods (unhealthy one😂). Best part is that you can add your own extra seasoning to make it more salty and spicy. Loveee the soft tofu and chicken the best. Should definitely come here if you haven’t already been before !

We ordered through Uber Eats and it took a while to arrive, which may skew the rating a bit due to fried food should be eaten hot. Nonetheless, some of the items we’d ordered were good and others were so so. The egg tofu (just a name as there was no egg in it), the sweet rice stuffed in pig intestines and cucumbers (yes, you’ve read that correctly and we didn’t know you can deep fry cucumbers) were very good. I guess the old saying “it’s true that anything deep fried is good” has some truth to it. Others such as tempura and chicken were just okay.

This one is 100% recommended & must try!! They sells Taiwanese fried chicken and the other fried stuff. The squid and chicken taste really good. Besides, they also sell a tasty curry rice! If you buy the curry rice, they provides a free drink.
Gede D — Google review
Excellent fried chicken and other fried companion food was also tasty. The freshly chopped, deep fried garlic lifted the taste by a notch. Strongly recommended. Service can be a bit slow but mostly because they made every single order a fresh batch. Worth the wait.
Nancy B — Google review
Unknowingly ordered 300NTD worth of food here. It is very easy to over order if you want to try a variety of items. Chicken was good, though not the best. Love the french beans and shisamo.
RCSC — Google review
Got the fried chicken (no bones) and the fried calamari (squid?) And fried sweet potatoes. Overall, seasoning was nice but maybe on the lighter side. Chicken was yummy and the portion for 60NT was big. I would skip the squid next time, it's like a huge chunk of squid and not tentacles and thus tastes really bland like chewing an eraser. It seems like a lot of fun eating a bunch of fries stuff on a piece of paper with a bunch of friends in their sitting area. 😍👍
Vivian S — Google review
I think this restaurant just a normal Taiwan style fried chicken stand...not many differents to others, but the foods are still great! Highly recommend curry rice with fried chicken if you want to fill up your belly,or you can grab some chicken pop corns for a snack
詹皇誠 — Google review
The best item here is the fish balls. They are huge and substantial. Close seconds are the glutinous stuff: sweet taro mochi and sticky rice sausage. The skewers have the perfect amount of breading, and always come out hot and fresh despite the crowds. They are not saucy but more the dry and crispy type which they do so well. You can switch it up with a side of curry to soak up the grease. Green beans are the best vegetable pairing imo. There is downstairs seating with stools at a couple high tops/bar.

Flea & Street Markets
Shilin Night Market is a vibrant hub of activity located in Taipei, renowned as the largest night market in the city and one of Taiwan's most famous attractions. Nestled between Wenlin Road and Jihe Road, this bustling marketplace offers an extensive selection of street food, clothing, and jewelry from numerous vendors.
Bustling night market with a big underground food hall. Street level is more vendors and oddly fair type games. There are some food stalls there too, but the main dinning hall is below the ground. Chairs, tables in the middle, bunch of restaurants lining the walls. You can find all kinds of food here. It is not the best food market in town, but its good enough and works even if the weather is bad.

It's been more than 15 years since we last visited Taiwan. The followed the tour the last time and so didn't get much time to walk around on our own. This trip was more free and easy, on the way back from Yang Ming Shan, we happen to stop at this station and so decided to get off and visit shilin night market. Wow! Some changes since we last came. Very lively as it was a Friday too. I finally had a chance to taste the jumbo sized fried chicken chop! Delicious though sinful! Many were queuing for the bbq mushrooms and so did we! Very yummy! We could smell the stinky tofu from far away. Still something I cant accept!!! But the code noodles is nice. So much food but our tummy can only take so much! Will be back!
Carolina L — Google review
Lots of good food at this night market. Tried the Michelin bib 凉面, beef cubes, Taiwan sausage, kumquat lemonade, and 516 fried chicken. All the food was good but the 516 fried chicken and the 凉面 really stood out. I would go for the fried chicken again if I come here, and perhaps try another flavour of seasoning.
Wee T — Google review
A great night market, it is cool to see it at least once when you are a tourist but it is not my favorite one. It is big, it extends over multiple streets, there are a many stands but they are a little bit more expensive than in "less famous" night markets. The food court is really pleasant for taking a break in the air conditioning. There is also multiple food stands in there with tables, chairs and free toilets.
Cécilia C — Google review
This was the 2nd night market I visited during my 48 hours in Taipei and I was absolutely blown away. The colourful neon lit stalls, the crammed streets full of other market goers, the noise and sounds of the arcade hall and the amount of food and drinks available will get you in a spin. Definitely recommend Shilin Night Market if you come to Taipei.
Normandy J — Google review
Shilin Night Market, one of the most famous night markets of Taipei. There are many things to do and eat, including the famous spicy chicken noodles, steamed buns and even buffets of local dishes, as well as games. This is a must come which is near Jiantan station of the MRT.
Aviator C — Google review
it was such a nice experience but the stalls were not all open, maybe because it was on a weekday. but we tried the famous original Hot Star Chicken and IT TASTED SO GOOD!!
나미 — Google review
We went during the rainy season, so the crowd was much smaller than usual. Despite the weather, there were still plenty of open stalls selling a wide variety of products ranging from clothes and bags to all sorts of tasty snacks. It’s easy to see why Shilin is one of Taipei’s most popular night markets 🌙

Taiwanese restaurant
French restaurant
Tairroir, located in Taipei and holding two Michelin stars, is the brainchild of Taiwan native Kai Ho. Having honed his skills at Guy Savoy's Singapore branch, Ho now applies French techniques to Taiwanese ingredients. The lunch and dinner set menus are reasonably priced and feature his signature dish: a luxurious twist on the local 'tea egg.' Additionally, during colder months, guests can inquire about an off-menu version of Taiwanese beef noodle soup.
3 stars Taiwanese fusion - overall we enjoyed but not sure if this is worthy of 3* Love their signature taro puree, sweet corn squid, crab and scallop. My least favourite would be the lobster which I feel it doesn’t go well with the green sauce.
ShuZhen C — Google review
Had the festive holiday menu. To be honest, not sure how it’s a 3-star restaurant. The food was quite mediocre. Most of the things weren’t anything special, the ribeye (main course) was quite lackluster. The desserts were also quite forgettable. The sommelier wasn’t very helpful in picking wines. There was 1 very interesting Taiwanese white wine though: lychee aroma but very crisp on the palette. The best thing was the celery foam on top of a warm nut-based soup. The food looks pretty though (photos attached). Also, the space was pretty small and I was surprised how close the tables were. It didn’t feel intimate, rather it felt like you could hear everyone’s conversations…
Edward H — Google review
Loved this place!!! Definitely is a three star experience Each dish was well done and the flavors fit together deliciously The server was very knowledgeable as well and able to explain each dish extremely clearly She was also very attentive by noticing that we were left handed and put our utensils on the left side for us without us mentioning These little details made the experience especially special for us There is also a pairing that you can do We chose to try the non alcohol wine options There are 3 drinks that are non alcoholic but made from wine We strongly recommend the Pinot Noir!! Our favorites were the appetizers and desserts at the end However for us it is definitely a lot of food We were quite full by the end of our meal Tastes almost the same as red wine Make sure to make a reservation in advance!!!
Kai W — Google review
It's only fitting that Tairroar is located right next to where Chef Andre's RAW used to be. The baton was passed to Chef Kai as far as the innovations techniques. The design is modern yet simplistic, bright yet calming, small yet cozy. We were seated next to the kitchen and we could glimpse into the heart of the restaurant through a glass window. The service was immaculate, our server was very accommodating, she explains each dish in both English and Mandarin. The pace of each course is spot-on, the entire 7 course Menu "Pong Pai" took under 3 hours. The appetizer starts with a bang, each element is visually striking: the gourd is refreshing, the clam pastry has unique texture, the bottarga is mild, the star jelly packs a punch. The octopus and asparagus dish feels like a drop from the apps in my opinion. I wonder if the sesame tofu fits the rest of the ingredients, it's too overpowering. The tea egg and congee is a simple Chinese breakfast but with French techniques elevate it to new heights. It tastes familiar but sophisticated. The flounder topped with a crispy layer of bread is not your regular fish sandwich casse croute snack. It's prepared at the perfect temperature without over cooking the fish. It's light and satisfying. The darling of the menu is decibel the lamb trio, prepared from 3 different cuts: saddleback, sirloin and filet. Great execution, the lamb does not taste gamey. The journey ends with a pear dessert which is a great fusion of Taiwanese and French influence. Al in all, it's a great experience. One suggestion would be to share the stories that tie the entire course. It would allow us to understand the inspiration of the menu.
Carl W — Google review
Absolutely earned its Michelin stars. Amazing story through Taiwanese food prepared with many classic French techniques. This is not Taiwanese street food, so please don’t expect that. There were an element or two in a few of the dishes that were less connected than others, but at this level of food that is pure subjective opinion. Exquisitely prepared. Wait Service was beyond reproach, sommelier could have been stronger in providing recommendations.
Evan B — Google review
It is a three star michelin, so I came here with the highest expectations. I had already had all of the dishes in the menu, so I was looking for their best version in the world. They were basically not, just one of them was "WOW", but the rest was just good. I, moreover, have a several small complains: - They asked us if we wanted to have an additional dish for 880 NTD. I am already paying 10000+, don't try to get easy additional money please! - We were two, so I am expecting I don't have to share the dish by myself, but to have single portions. - The service is pressing too much to bring the next dish, not letting you finish the course that they are bringing the next. - Gold is good electrical conductor, but it has no taste. At the end I believe it was more a 5000NTD than the 10k. (Water should be included in the price if you are already paying this much.)
Daniele C — Google review
Definitely not 3 star caliber. They made a big deal of me want more tea. No refill?!?!?! In the beginning they didn't ask for any special occasion celebration so during dessert I asked for a candle for birthday celebration and they couldn't accommodate. Service is lacking for this level of execution. Decent food for a one star level. Beautiful presentation, balanced flavors. It doesn't have the wow factor from what I expect for a 3 star.
Walo W — Google review
I took my mom and brother to dinner at Taïrroir: the service was excellent, but I was not impressed with the food. The appearance of some dishes was not enticing, and the food tasted bland. Of the six main dishes, only two stood out in flavor, presentation, creativity, and originality: the smoked pigeon and the pu’er tea organic egg. For dessert, the salted pineapple was exquisite in its combination of textures and flavors. The place is cozy and intimate, only 8 tables with a private dining area. 2 Michelin star restaurants are labeled as “Excellent cooking, worth a detour.” Maybe in the past, Taïrroir fit this description, but the current menu doesn’t live up to expectations.

Fuzhou Pepper Buns, also known as hu jiao bing, is a popular Taiwanese night market snack. These baked buns feature a crispy outer shell with sesame seeds and are filled with peppery marinated pork and scallions. The stall at Raohe Market in Taipei is the first one you'll encounter when entering from the northeast side.
It was tasty! Lowkey cheap as well. Make sure to bring cash. Even just the flaky bread itself was tasty. I’m not a fan of black peppers but this was still really good. I would definitely recommend to at least try. There wasn’t much of queue around 6 PM on a Friday night.
Blessy C — Google review
Wanted to love it but I did not. These buns have been featured in Michelin guides in that past and still get hype to this day. While the bread is good and served fresh, I did not enjoy the filling. The flavor wasn’t appealing to me and I either encountered some pieces of fat or soft bone. Glad I tried it though, it’s difficult to skip out on these while in Taipei given the love it gets. If you decide to try it, don’t be discouraged by the long line! It goes by quick.
Nik — Google review
Keeping the best memory of this place from my food tour in Taiwan !! Super strong and tasty flavors, buns made right in front of you. The bread is moist with a crusty shell - meat is perfectly seasoned with a strong taste of pepper but nothing spicy. 🍢 a street food really worth a try !! ⭐️
Sigrid R — Google review
We walked into Raohe Night Market without reading any reviews and were immediately greeted by a long line for the famous black pepper meat bun. Don’t be discouraged—the line moves quickly! The buns are baked fresh on-site, so they’re piping hot and flavorful when you get them. I personally wished there was a bit more meat in the filling, but the seasoning was well-balanced and not overpowering. Overall, we all enjoyed it—definitely a must-try when visiting Raohe Night Market!
Teadrinker — Google review
Food: taste was really good, well cooked, fresh and steaming hot. You can see their entire team preping for customers Service: was super fast and easy, but pls prepare cash for payment Atmosphere was great, they are just at the main entrance of the Raohe St. Night Market, you will feel curious the moment you see the long queu

Fuzhou Pepper Pork Bun – Raohe Night Market, Taipei We visited the Raohe Night Market in Taipei early in the evening and were lucky to catch the Fuzhou pepper pork bun stall while they were busy baking fresh buns in a traditional clay oven (similar to a tandoor, though it’s properly known as a “tunnel oven” or “tonneau oven” in some Chinese street food settings). We ordered a few for takeaway and they were absolutely delicious. The buns were freshly baked with a beautifully crisp exterior, and the peppery pork filling was full of flavour, fragrant, juicy, and packed with just the right kick of spice. Definitely a worthwhile stop if you’re visiting the market. A simple yet satisfying treat that lives up to the hype!
Melissa H — Google review
The meat was super juicy, and the bun was very crispy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. They are super super generous with the filling and add a lot of spring onions to cut the greasiness of the meat. The first bite is genuinely sublime.
Jade L — Google review
A must try when you go to Raohe Night Market, located right at the entrance. There was a line when we visited, but it moved quickly. The pepper bun was hot, crispy, meaty, and tasty. The price is fair for what you get but it’s only for takeaway.

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is a must-try when visiting Taiwan, particularly at its bustling Ximending location. The super-sized fried chicken boasts a crunchy breading and well-seasoned taste, with the inside turning out juicier than expected. While some find it less spicy than before, others appreciate the toned-down spice for tourists. Despite mixed reviews on dryness, many enjoy the crispy texture and non-greasy flavor.
Not sure about the low rating but the fried chicken was juicy, hot and delicious, there’s constantly ppl ordering, so need to wait awhile while they are frying fresh batches of chicken. There’s no spicy option now, so just one original type. Closes quite late, so definitely a good supper option.
Jerald K — Google review
I have been waiting for years to try Hot Star and I finally got my chance. It was HUGE, as big as your face, piping HOT, and NOT boneless. Majority of it did not have bones until near the end of the piece. It's super juicy and very tasty. Definitely very inexpensive for this much chicken. Would definitely come again and it is recommended. Just wished it was boneless.
T T — Google review
Fresh and crunchy! What The big piece of chicken! It was really good. I believe it was a piece of chicken breast/rib combo because the bottom part of the chicken was the bone part. So if you think the whole piece is a chicken meat, sorry. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually appreciated the bone part of the chicken as well. I love that it was freshly fried. For being freshly fried it didn't feel oily and was very crunchy. It definitely was hot and you need to nibble at it first. There was a lot of the seasoning, whatever the seasoning was, it was GOOD!! Environment This was in Ximending street. It is a stall and there is no seating available. you order and find your seating. It could get busy and chaotic. Niceness of the staff He just wants to take my order and fulfill my order. Let's say that's as far as it went Dollar It was very cheap comparing tot he US. Yes Definitely yes. Worth the hype.
Wendy C — Google review
Worth the experience. Super-sized fried chicken on the go, super hot & crispy on the outside & inside was a lot juicer than expected. One order was plenty for 2. Order the chicken first as you can get a discount coupon for the Juice & Tea shop next door. We got the Juice b4 the fried chicken.. should've known!
J K — Google review
One of the best friend chicken to try on. Their fried squid is tasty. They charged 2NT for a take away bag.

Huge Taiwanese Fried Chicken! Better flavor profile than their competitor (M). Looks affordable also. However, customer service needs improvement. The one selling is a little short-tempered (in the morning!?) 😂😂😂
Anthony A — Google review
Fooled by the Q, should have check the review before buying. The chicken is indeed large at TWD 100 but it is tasteless and dry. Thick coated flour makes everything worst. Taste: 1/5 Portion: 2/5 (60% flour) Price: 1/5
Byean — Google review
I'm not sure how the original stall in shilin tasted but food from this particular store wasn't good. I picked to eat the fried chicken pieces and tofu. Neither of it was good because they were hard and coarse. I didn't like the chicken texture. The fried tofu had more batter/flour then the tofu. Both items were "over fried", so it was tough. Maybe the original stall is better.

Dumpling restaurant
Mandarin restaurant
If you're on the hunt for authentic Taiwanese flavors, look no further than Takumi Dumplings. Nestled conveniently near Shandao Temple and Zhongxiao Xinsheng stations, this bustling eatery is a must-visit. Their signature scallop dumplings, featuring a unique seaweed-infused green skin, are an absolute delight that you can't miss. The combination of pork and garlic chives also offers a satisfying taste experience.
For me, this is one of those experiences where I was walking in the neighborhood and saw lots of folks lined up and so I just hopped in the queue, not knowing what I was in for. Luckily the manager here is super friendly and help me out in English to understand that this restaurant was really well known for their dumplings. The menu is super small, but I had pork and garlic dumplings and scallop dumplings and a cucumber salad and everything was super tasty. If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, the black tea iced with black tea jelly is very refreshing and packed with sugar. Would definitely come back to try more dumplings!

Loved the spinach scallop dumplings, so juicy and tasty! (Minimum order 5 pieces per flavor.) The sour and spicy soup was a miss for me, can skip it. Side dishes were great, especially the jellyfish — super crunchy and flavorful. Must try their grass jelly drink — super refreshing while waiting for a seat! Also noticed a lot of people buying frozen dumpling packets to bring home, too.

Came here by recommendation of Mr. Al Dente and couldn’t have been happier. Great quality, fast and cheap. The dumpling skins were well made and tasted fresh. Will absolutely be coming back often!

Super tasty dumplings and soup. It is quite funny to see that there are 4 waitresses for 9 tables and you will still have to write your order, get your chopsticks yourself, as well as sauce and sides. Makes no sense but funny authentic experience. I recommend

The dumplings were delicious. The young lady at the register had good English and things were written in English as well. The bathroom was clean and everyone was helpful and friendly. Good price and great service. My kids love the noodle side dish. I think it’s tofu? I call them tofu noodles but I don’t know what they are. 😆 we paid 525NT for 45 dumplings, 1 grass jelly tea, 5 small sides at 35 each. What a great deal. Would come back and would definitely recommend. Make sure to use the dips as they elevate the flavors.

A reliable plate of dumplings.. but I'm not sure if it's worth the hype. Good but not the best. It felt similar to 八方雲集. The skin is really thin though so that's a plus. Service is pretty fast, and it's crowded. We came near closing time so we got in pretty soon though.

A local friend recommended this restaurant for the best dumplings. Boy, oh boy... We had the signature recipe, the scallops ones (green), and the fish ball soup. Everything was deeeeeeelish. Very friendly staff. But note: they only accept cash payments.

Known for its unique take on the beloved Three Cup Chicken, this restaurant serves Boneless Three Cup Chicken, featuring tender bite-sized pieces of chicken drumsticks stir-fried in a rich sauce made from soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine, and other flavorful ingredients.
Great place for business lunch. Private rooms available. We ate family style in a room that held 13 people. Good service and delicious food.

I flew back to Taiwan to have a proper Taiwanese meal with my family before Lunar New Year ended. I would highly recommend making an early reservation as it’s always full house due to the office buildings and exhibition centres being located within 5-10 mins walking distance. As I didn’t make any reservation and walked in during lunchtime, we waited nearly 30 mins to be seated. Three of us ordered a two-pax lunch set meal and an extra vegan soup and dessert. It’s way too much for us, and we need to take it away. All the dishes were relatively excellent and appealing, but the pork was served too slowly, and we almost forgot about it. Identical to the dessert, I have to go over to the waitress to inform them that we have finished the meal and please serve the dessert. The green tea is nicely brewed, but the best is still the vegan soup. The handicapped toilet is on maintenance, and most of the tools are stored in the lady’s room; a waiter came into the lady’s room without knocking, and I was deeply disturbed. All the all, if you are just talking about the food and people who stand at the counters, they are high quality, trained and well cooked. But the rest of the staff seems not experienced. It’s a good try.

Michelin Guide Restaurant in Taipei’s Nangang District We felt really lucky to visit this Michelin Guide–listed restaurant while in Taipei on a business trip with locals. Our local colleagues organised a huge spread of dishes for us — I’m not sure if it was a set menu, but we were served an impressive variety of food. Personally, I found it a little harder to judge as some dishes weren’t quite to my usual taste, but the ones I did enjoy were lovely. The service was fast and efficient, though English was limited, which led to a small mix-up over vegetarian options — not the staff’s fault, just a language barrier. The restaurant itself had a calm, refined atmosphere, and overall, it was a great experience. While I’m not sure it was the best meal we had in Taipei, it was still a memorable opportunity to try a Michelin-recommended local spot.

I finally had the opportunity to enjoy my favorite bamboo-smoked chicken in Taiwan. The chicken was incredibly tender and bursting with flavor. Another standout was the pan-fried pig liver, which was so delicious that I couldn't resist having more. Achieving the perfect doneness was essential to preserve the juiciness of the liver. On the other hand, the claypot-cooked oyster with tofu was a bit lacking in umami flavor and tasted somewhat bland. The stewed white cabbage was excellent but could have used a touch more salt. The steamed fish was decent but lacked seasoning, and a spicier sauce could have elevated it to perfection. We wrapped up the meal with a traditional and authentic serving of fried vermicelli, or bee hoon, which was incredibly satisfying. The key to this dish was the perfect flavor and springiness of the vermicelli. It was a delightful lunch with my business associates, finally indulging in properly cooked Taiwanese cuisine!

Nice place with good vegetarian option. Good food quality and taste. There is a game (if you are in a group)-buy Red bean ice cream (the one pyramid shape in the pictures I uploaded).Everyone should take the ice cream in their bowl, the person who makes it fall, will have to pay for the ice cream next time... kinda funny, but nice :) I hope you enjoy your meal here.

Chi Chia Chuang, located on Changchun Road in Taipei, is a long-standing restaurant known for its traditional regional chicken dishes. Established in 1974, this eatery has two branches near MRT Zhongshan Station and boasts a retro 1970s style that appeals to both locals and tourists. The menu features a variety of chicken-based dishes such as three-color chicken and crispy chicken roll, along with unique offerings like pineapple bitter melon soup.
Delicious local food. The rice is amazing and everyone should order it. If you dare not to see the bones, please try drunken chicken. I like the black-bone chicken a lot. The quality of chicken is super elastic. After-meal dessert is pudding, handmade and quite tasty 😋.

We told the maitre d we didn't have a reservation and he was quite rude, saying "no reservation no table" then flat out ignored us. Another waitress saw what was happening and kindly gave us a table. We ordered mapo tofu, chicken roll, cuttlefish, three taste chicken, sesame oil chicken casserole etc. My fav were the mapo tofu and cuttlefish. Least fav was the casserole. A good eat overall and would definitely come again.

Decent Taiwanese food ( we guess), enjoyed most with delicious tofu and flavorful braised pork. We were also treated to a complimentary dessert, which was a nice surprise. Overall, a very satisfying dining experience in Taipei—definitely worth the price. (Small size is more than enough for two)

This place deserves a higher than 4.2 rating. Super well made local cuisine. Ok, yes, it is on the pricier side but you get good quality with it and the restaurant is in a tourist trap area. My favorite is of course the chicken broth rice with Drunken Chicken legs. What a combo. All other dishes are well made and delicious. The location is tourist center but the restaurant is clean the service is fast and it does help when you speak Chinese.

Last meal on a Taipei trip and went here specially for the 3 cup chicken. Not disappointed and one of the best 3 cup chickens I have had. Sauce was reduced a lot so very thick and flavorful. Nanjichang Night Market is a hidden gem in Taipei, offering an authentic and bustling experience for both locals and visitors. This market boasts traditional Taiwanese street eats, including the famous sesame oil chicken soup, oyster pancakes, and braised pork rice. Unlike other touristy spots, Nanjichang retains its ruggedness and truly Taiwanese character. With its historic downtown location and hundreds of food stalls to choose from, it's the perfect place to immerse yourself in Taiwan's street food culture.
Smaller scale than popular night markets but has many different & unique options. Everything we ate here was great; the stinky tofu (store 22), Japanese curry rice (store 43), oyster fritter (store 28), luoroufan (at the entrance). Would definitely come back again

Yet another night market well worth the visit especially because they have toilets! It is low key on a week night, again slightly different food from other night markets. I had crispy crepe filled with pork, corn, cabbage, very yummy. So was the grilled Vietnamese sausage on a stick, guava juice, sticky rice with egg. Just wish I could eat more!

Being far from the train, there are very few tourist here and prices appear to about 30% lower than others such as Ximending, Shilin, Ningxia or Roahe, however the quality is overall better. There is a fine attention to detail, and as much, if not more variety than Roahe as vendors have to complete over local residents, who probably have been eating here for decades, as opposed to the single time visit from a tourist. This market is not linear like Roahe or Ningxia, but overlaps multiple intersects. This market is comprised of four short blocks, with three intersections. The intersection run perpendicular in both directions for one block. This is perhaps one of the better food based night markets, and there are a few gaming or pachinko shops and arcade shops here. This night market is worth the walk south.

Great night market with lots of local food choices! The variety is good, and most stalls serve famous dishes at very reasonable prices. Be prepared for long queues though — the food is popular with locals for a reason! I really appreciate how dedicated and passionate the Taiwanese vendors are in serving their food. You can truly feel their effort and pride in every dish. Highly recommended to visit at least once!

This is a night market that has recently exploded in popularity. There’s not close at all any station I recommend taking an Uber or a taxi to here this night market like most Taiwanese market offers traditional food braised pork rice, as well as ice cream with peanuts overall market has a very great vibe and I recommend this to those who wish to explore night markets that Taiwanese people visit.

I really liked this one. I like the vibes, good variety of better products not just the simple stuff. I also like the signs they have posted at each vendor labeling each vendor with a title and a number. This one seems to be one of the more local night markets not directed at tourists with more food and less shopping.

Really wonderful hotel. Beautiful design, nice sauna, pool gym etc. Service was great without being overbearing. The room was massive and well-designed. No complaints whatsoever. One thing to note though is that I would not stay here if you are using it as a base to explore Taipei. It is in an area without much to do. They do have a shuttle to the MRT but this is more of a hotel to unwind and spend time in than a place to put your stuff and go out. Having said that, if you are using taxis/ubers, it isn't an issue.
Christopher B — Google review
I have reviewed this hotel years ago and it is still largely up to par. The rooms are starting to show a bit of wear but the common areas are well maintained and breakfast choices are plentiful. The hotel is primarily popular with Asian tourists. What stood out for me is how friendly the staff at this hotel is, especially compared to the large chain hotel further down on the same street. The rooms are also larger. So this is still the best choice for me when staying in this general area.

Stayed a week in this beautiful hotel. Rooms were clean, modern, spacious and had all the amenities you can ask for. The mini bar with assorted drinks, tea and snack was complimentary and was refilled which was nice. The gym was modern and well equip with new machines and equipment and a fridge filled with drinks. The bed was comfortable and bathroom with the multifaceted shower head and sprays was one of the best features. It is also a short walk to Miramar Entertainment Center lots of shops and restaurants. The staff are friendly and helpful and all speak English fluently. Can't wait to come back to Taipei and definitely will stay at the Grand Mayfully again.
Lam T — Google review
The Grand Mayfull hotel in Taipei is one of the nicest and most luxurious hotels I've ever had the pleasure of staying in. The service and facilities (sauna, gym, etc.) are all top notch, the restaurants are absolutely amazing, and the rooms themselves are very spacious and comfortable. We stayed in the Elite Family Room (2 queen size beds) for 10 days and the room itself, along with all of the perks that it came with (complimentary in-room minibar, daily complimentary buffet style breakfast, complimentary coffee and sweets at the cafe in the lobby downstairs, etc.) were fantastic. We had PLENTY of room for myself, my partner, and our 9 year old daughter. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Taipei that is looking for an elegant, luxurious, pampered, and CLEAN place to stay for the duration of their stay. EDIT: We ended up extending our stay in Taipei for another 8 days and the process was super simple and easy. We looked at possibly staying at other hotels for our extension, like the W or Le Meridian or Hyatt, but we found the room we had at the Grand Mayfull was the best price for the value it provided that included 2 queen sized beds. Again, highly recommend this hotel for families looking for a room with 2 queens that has more than enough comfort and space for a family of 3 or 4.
Zachary K — Google review
You won’t be disappointed, but it won’t be amazing. Just a heads up — the sleeping pillow options weren’t great for two people. They were either too soft or too firm and didn’t quite match the overall quality of the hotel. And no airplay or chrome cast.

Nestled in a modest setting, Boon Keng Chicken is a delightful eatery that brings the essence of traditional Singaporean cuisine to Taipei. Known primarily for its delectable chicken rice, this restaurant has maintained its charm without any significant expansion over the years. The atmosphere is bright and simple, making it an inviting spot for diners. When you visit Boon Keng Chicken, you'll be greeted by friendly staff who ensure prompt service.
Chicken and Rice ($190): The chicken tasted quite juicy and tender. Eating the rice with the chicken dipped in the sauce was excellent. In my opinion, their chicken wasn’t the best but the rice was. In addition, its skin was also delicious, chewy and smooth. Kumquat Juice ($80): It tasted amazing and similar to lemonade but a bit sweeter. Moreover, the hot tea has a slight taste of coconut and you can add as much as you want. Last but not least, the service was faster than my expectations and the prices were affordable for most people. It’s located between 2 MRT stations (Zhongxiao Xinsheng Exit 1 & Shandao Temple Exit 6), so it depends on your conditions to determine where to get off the MRT. Overall, it’s a 9.5 out of 10! FYI, you send the QR code to order 10% service charge isn’t included in your bill. Besides, they only accept cash.
Porex P — Google review
A comforting taste of Singapore in the heart of Taipei! Located just a 5–7 minute walk from Shandao Temple MRT Station, Boon Keng Chicken (文慶雞) offers a cozy and casual dining experience focused on Singapore-style Hainanese chicken rice, along with a few other familiar Singaporean favourites like Bak Kut Teh and satay. We tried their signature chicken rice, which they proudly state is authorized by Singapore’s renowned Boon Tong Kee. The portion was generous, and although it was chicken breast, the meat was remarkably tender and juicy — a pleasant surprise! The set meal included fragrant chicken rice, a clear fishball soup, vegetables, and a small dessert (pulut hitam). The rice had that authentic Singaporean chicken rice aroma and flavour we love. For the vegetables, instead of the usual oyster sauce used in Singapore, they used a Taiwanese-style soy sauce, which gave it a nice local twist — a thoughtful and tasty adaptation. They also offer familiar drinks like lime juice and barley, which added to the nostalgic experience. The only element that fell slightly short for me was the chilli sauce — it lacked the bold punch and zesty kick typical of the ones back home. But considering we’re in Taiwan, I truly appreciate the effort they’ve put into maintaining as much authenticity as possible. Service was quick, the restaurant is clean and organized, and overall, it was a very enjoyable meal. If you're in Taipei and craving a comforting plate of Hainanese chicken rice, this spot is definitely worth a visit. I’d gladly recommend it to fellow Singaporeans and locals alike!

Food was "good" by all reasonable standards. Also, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Do note that I'm no connoisseur and I didn't expect a store in TW to replicate SG's version of chicken rice. If you sell food in TW, you jolly well adjust your dishes to suit Taiwanese tastebuds.

Boon Keng Chicken is a famous Singapore chain restaurant that is famous for their chicken rice. The service here is very nice and fast. There was available seating when I came but we decided to do takeout. They will give you soy sauce, chili paste, and ginger packages. I recommend to mix all three sauces and put it in your rice. It tasted to good. The chicken was tender and juicy. The chicken skin was so good as well. We ordered a regular chicken rice and the drum stick version. Both are really good.

"純發魯肉飯" is a beloved Taiwanese dish that features sweet and savory soy-braised pork belly served over steamed rice. It's a staple comfort food with many variations, such as poured over noodles or vegetables, or used to make braised eggs or tofu. While numerous places serve this dish, some stand out for their exceptional quality.
The braised pork rice was so delicious! It was not too sweet and also not too salty. The flavor was well balanced and the pork melted literally on the tongue. Besides the braised pork, the bamboo shoot soup was so flavorful and also delicious. Reminded me of the Vietnamese bamboo shoot soup regarding taste. It’s not the same but nearly similar. The staff there were also quite friendly. Must visit for great braised pork rice!

Cash only. The luo ba ban is very delicious, and clam chicken soup is good as well. Good place for Taiwanese local food. Clean and delicious.

Enjoyed a delicious bowl of spare rib soup with bamboo shoot slices along with a bowl of braised pork rice. The boneless spare ribs had a nice amount of tendon and fat and literally melt in your mouth. The bamboo shoots were very tender and complimented the pork and soup extremely well. The soup was so tasty and wholesome and most importantly perfectly seasoned. The braised pork rice was another wonderful compliment to the meal. It was super tender and tasty and having a spoonful of soup after eating the rice was a delight. My wife really enjoyed the chicken soup with clams and a bowl of chicken broth rice. We will definitely be returning for more of this comforting food which is so inexpensive.

Great little shop offering a modern take on classic Taiwanese classics. They have around 12? seats inside, but most customers who came by were getting their food to-go. The braised pork rice was cooked to perfection, the pork rib & bamboo shoot soup was delightful, and they gave you a looot of tofu when you order it as a side (4 pieces for $20? more places should do this). The decor is great too! They should sell merch haha

I was immediately drawn to this restaurant's captivating branding whenever I passed by. Those symbols caught my attention, prompting me to give it a try. I opted for a bowl of flavorful braised pork over rice and a delectable chicken soup with chili peppers. Both dishes exceeded my expectations in terms of taste, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to fellow diners. One aspect that particularly impressed me was the harmonious blend of traditional Taiwanese cuisine with modern design elements. It created a unique and delightful dining experience. It's worth noting that the restaurant's size is relatively small, which means you may encounter a queue during peak hours.

When you find yourself wandering through Taipei's bustling Shilin Night Market, make sure to stop by the renowned stall serving up delicious grilled king oyster mushrooms, or 燒烤杏鮑菇. This popular spot is known for its long lines, a testament to its mouthwatering offerings. As you wait—often around 30 minutes—you'll be treated to a front-row view of the entire cooking process, from preparation to grilling and finally serving.
Joined the long queue for this famous grilled oyster abalone mushroom. Waited about 20mins for my turn. Wide range of powder seasoning available. Can pick 2 seasonings per order. Per order at $120 Found the mushroom to be cooked till very juicy and tender. Totally no hard parts. Seasoning was great. There are cheaper options at $100 in other parts of the market, not sure how they taste but just fyi
Bryan F — Google review
We queued almost for 30 mins. I think it’s fine if you queue when your partner go around to buy something else so that you can munch and queue at the same time. The portion of the mushroom is big, it can be shared by two person, for mushroom lovers, maybe you will want to finish the whole thing yourself. They have some unique flavours but I just like the original flavour. The mushrooms are grilled to the right tenderness and the best thing is you can choose two flavours and they are served in a bowl for easy sharing and munching.
Chan 陈 — Google review
Night market stand so super busy and crowded, long line, mushrooms are ok maybe just personal preference but the mushroom was just ok and the flavor just felt coated on top and not really in the mushroom itself. Unless that’s how it’s supposed to be. Not super cheap but not expensive either, the person who got it for us just said to get it for the experience/taste. I liked the seaweed seasoning though. I probably wouldn’t get it again but it wasn’t bad, maybe a more intense grilled mushroom lover will enjoy
Emma W — Google review
Juicy grilled mushrooms. Followed the line here and the crowds were on the money. I really loved the mustard seasoning, which added an excellent counterbalance to the sweet sauce and natural shroom flavour.
Nathan M — Google review
Every time I go to the famous Shilin Night market there is always a long queue here. You can choose 2 flavors of your liking. I recommend lemon pepper with seaweed. Personally, I wouldn’t eat it again, but it didn’t tasted that bad and it’s something that you don’t really have at the other night markets in Taiwan
My N — Google review
At first I thought it’s just grilled mushrooms, how good can it be but no, it’s really delicious!!!! As a person who love mushrooms, this is really worth trying, especially the combo lemon and seaweed flavour. However, the waiting time is a bit long and 120NTD for a bowl (which they raised directly from 100NTD), yet i think i wont try it again with this kind of price :/

Love love love! This was so delicious. We got a mix of two flavours - seaweed and spicy. Highly recommend. Line is long however moves quite fast.

Taste good but not that much. I thinks it a bit expensive. Queue is so long. If you not go there alone, I suggest you split the queue into just one person and the rest of you go buy something else so you don't waste time.

The adorable mustache-shaped lids add a playful touch to your drink experience, making it perfect for social media snaps.

Chinese restaurant
When exploring the culinary delights of Taiwan, a visit to 沈記原汁牛肉麵 is a must for beef noodle enthusiasts. Nestled in the basement of Songjiang Market, this cozy spot offers an array of delicious options at reasonable prices. The small bowl features four tender pieces of stewed beef paired with your choice of thick or thin noodles, both equally satisfying. While the soup may not be overly salty or extraordinary, it provides a comforting base that complements the dish well.
(Translated by Google) Visited on a summer Sunday evening. Although the reviews said it was underground, it seemed like the market was closed on Sundays and there were food stalls outside. The smell of stinky tofu from the surrounding stalls, the ultra-local feel, and the summer heat made me take a step back, but I mustered up the courage to take on the challenge. As a result, it was the best cost performance of the beef noodles I've ever eaten! The soup was a bit bland, but it was pretty good, so I adjusted it by adding chili oil from the table. And the beef is big and has a deep flavor, which is good, and in 2024, 130NTD is cheap! I chose thick noodles and was glad that they had a bit of firmness. Normal indoor restaurants around here cost 200 to 300 NTD, but if you want to cut things loose and just eat beef noodles, I think this is the place to go.

The wide noodles are okay, but not chewy or chewy. 130 yuan for a bowl of beef is a lot.

(Translated by Google) Shen Ji Original Beef Noodles is a popular delicacy in Songshan Market on Jinzhou Street. The old owner was originally engaged in selling beef in Songjiang Market. Over 20 years ago, due to changes in environment and customer sources, he switched to selling beef noodles. Because of his expertise in meat, Shen Ji After the launch of Ji Original Beef Noodles, it immediately became a popular delicacy in Songjiang Market. Currently, we use Australian beef, which uses half tendon and half meat beef tendon and front tendon. It is soft and chewy, not woody. The cooking process is to stir-fry first, then marinate, and finally soak in the marinade. Although it is Australian beef, Palatability is pretty good. The noodle body is available in either width or thickness. It is a Taiwanese ramen. The soup is not oily and has the umami flavor of big bones. It is a beef noodle soup that you can drink. It has a slight aroma of Chinese medicine. Today's noodle has 4 pieces of beef and is about 0.8-1 cm thick. , about 2*4-5cm in length and width, $130 for a small bowl and $150 for a large bowl, which is considered a high C/P value (because a lot of beef noodles now cost $250-300, of course there are some priced at $400, $500 or more), this is A bowl of beef noodles that won’t hurt your wallet if you eat it normally. In addition to minced green onions, there are also 6 or 7 leaves of Chinese cabbage, which can provide a small supplement of vitamin C. Compared with some beef noodle restaurants on Luoyang Street, except that they are not open 24 hours a day, the prices are not more expensive, and the meat and soup are more flavorful. You can add sauerkraut directly to the soup, which will give it more texture because it has been washed first and then processed. It contains much less salt. There are two types of peppers: douban spicy and oil-based spicy. It is not recommended to add douban spicy (it is saltier). People who like spicy food are recommended to stir-fry them themselves. The oil stirred in the chili pepper makes it more fragrant. In addition to beef noodles, there are also side dishes (dried tofu, kelp, dried shreds, shredded bamboo shoots and kelp, quick pork, small fish chili, tripe, etc.). I hope everyone has a pleasant meal. The business hours are 11:00-2:30 in market B1, and 16:30-22:00 in the evening on Jinzhou Street outside the market upstairs. Closed on Mondays.
