Restaurant

Le Bon Ton is a lively saloon-style joint in Melbourne, offering Southern US-style grills and a variety of drinks. The restaurant features a smokehouse and beer garden, making it an ideal spot for late-night gatherings with friends. Known for its rowdy atmosphere and ample seating options, it's a popular choice for group bookings. Open until 3am on weekends, it's perfect for those seeking a late-night feast.
📍@lebontonmelb, Collingwood Le Bon Ton does their Big Easy Bottomless every Saturday and Sunday with a New Orleans-inspired bottomless brunch 🥂 For $69 per person you have 2 hours of bottomless carafe cocktails served with a selection of share-style dishes and sides 🍗 While the food portions could be bigger for our taste, we can't complain about the quality of the dishes served. Their interior has a nice and cosy vibe too 👌🏻 Big Easy Bottomless: Saturdays & Sundays 11:30am - 3:30pm $69pp 2-hour package

Few night ago we decided to try Le Bon Ton and we can confirm it is a great place to come with friends for a enjoyable night out. Food is prepared well, simple but taste good, Smokey "Everything" as you would expect!!!. Service is really friendly and whole atmosphere is quite relaxed....looks like typical Pub setting and lot of space to sit with larger groups too, different areas and courtyard is great as well We would recommend. Worth visiting, definitively!!! Jana & Boris

Was here for a friend's birthday and got the Smokers Lot to share. Also tried the pork ribs, side salad, chips and desserts. Everything tasted great! Only complaints would be that the chicken portion was a bit small and couldn't be shared easily amongst the group of us. Drinks were also a little pricey. $11 for non alcoholic peach tea. And the pork ribs used the same sauce as the one in the share platter. Would've preferred more variety there. Think we got the green goddess slaw which was great. Would've also liked some sauerkraut with the pickles.. Desserts were the brownie and key lime pie. I loved the brownie and both of the ice cream flavours. Overall it was a great find with affordable prices. Can't wait to come back and try more from their menu!

I had to try their smoked meats with a pint of my favourite cider and I felt it was worth it. I ordered the smoked chicken and my only feedback would be to add more spice and make it juicier. Apart from that the portion was filling for me and the staff were quick to put the orders out. I did enjoy the intentional rusty vibe, I wish I had a cowboy hat on! They do have happy hour between 4-6pm, so if you're in the area then check them out maybe.

Had a great night here with friends a week or so ago. Was sold on the promise of American bbq meats. Was not disappointed. Everyone enjoyed the night. Food was great. All staff very helpful and friendly. Great atmosphere, a lot seating to choose from. Lightning a bit dim, I liked it others had to get their phones out to see the menu. Music was also a nice accompaniment. Everyone enjoyed very much, will go again. A lot of drinks to choose from. The hurricane was appreciated. Thanks for a great evening.

I went here for lunch and had the Southern Chicken Fried Sandwhich. I got it in the combo which meant it came with the burger/sandwich and chips for under 16 dollars - very reasonably priced. The food itself was really good - it came out fast, the chips were really crunchy and had a ton of flavour, the sandwich bun was very soft, and the Chicken itself was very fresh, crispy, and tasty. In terms of the interior, this place has a very Gothic vibe, lots of dark colours, old timber, and melted candles. I visited at lunch on a weekday where it was very quiet - good for me. Overall, a good experience and I will be back.

Some of the most fabulous brisket I’ve ever.m had - and I’ve had a lot!! So tender and moist. Absolutely loved everything. The atmosphere is great and staff were super helpful.

Went to Le Bon Ton for dinner -I’d been years ago and really enjoyed it, but this visit was disappointing. The quality of the food has dropped significantly; the meats were dry, lacked smokiness & the portions were quite small for the price. All the condiments that used to be available on the table were gone, so we had to keep asking staff for the basics. Service was fast, but it was hard to get anyone’s attention once seated. The dessert menu has been pared back too; I really missed the banana cream pie, which was a highlight on previous visits. The atmosphere also felt less cosy and welcoming. The dining space was filled with smoke and an overpowering carbon monoxide smell, which made the experience pretty unpleasant overall.

Bar
American restaurant
Leonards House Of Love is a retro bar housed in a vintage log cabin, offering an extraordinary American menu with specialties like cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and classic sides. The ambiance is adorned with vintage furnishings and cabin decor that exude an awe-inspiring charm. The bustling dog-friendly courtyard and appealing drink specials make it a great spot for gathering and enjoying good conversation over hearty bites.
Really lives up to the Top 5 burgers in Melbourne. Whilst I consider potato martin buns to be the criteria for this ranking, their brioche buns that are slightly charred works perfectly with their textured and juicy beef patties and fried chicken patty. Great tenders but the burgers is where it’s at.
Mel B — Google review
Lovely spot for a date night or to go play some pool, atmosphere was very nice and service great, even too fast! I was looking forward to their burgers because of a friend recommendation. We tried the beef burger which I found it very dry and below average, while I enjoyed quite much the chicken one, very tasty. My absolute favorite were the poutine fries though, would be back just for those. I was rather surprised they have only wood cutlery and no plates at all, which rendered rather hard to share as burgers are served in the paper containers. Overall it wasn’t bad but neither as I expected. May go back to a redeem for their burgers and perhaps to spend a little more time in their nice indoor area.

Amazing food and great vibes. This place truly is a hidden gem! The burgers and chicken tenders were delicious, and I highly recommend trying the tenders and the beyond burger (great texture and tasted like a beef burger). We will definitely be back for more next time we're in Melbourne!

$70 for two people / Cheese burger $17 & Rodeo burger $21, Mac and cheese $12 and Chips $9 / + two glasses of soft drinks The staff were super kind and attentive. Perfect fried golden colour chips and juicy burgers made our weekend fabulous! Loved the vibes and EVERYTHING<3

A tucked away place that felt like back home. We made the right decision by ordering three 'mains' to share between the two of us, and even then I was debating adding on their poutine and pie of the day. I'm still salivating and wanting more because the burger bun was perfect and the chicken strips were juicy and the drinks came as quick as we ordered them. The pool table was free to play on a Monday night and the music fit the vibe. Sit by the fire, the bar, the back room, or the two patios outside for whatever you're after. I loved it.

Hands down this double cheeseburger is the best burger I have had!! Juicy, soft, crispy, all the right textures and all the right flavours. Came by today and can't wait to be back!!

I come here quite often and have always loved it (the chicken is bangin). But the last time the short curly haired woman was so incredibly rude . Not only did I see her talking poorly to staff , she also refused to let us keep the heater on - even though it was late in the evening . It was only me and my 4 friends in the area and I was freezing . She marched over , turned it off and told us it was too warm for the heater , when I said I was cold she told me to move inside, it’s not all about me , and other people are wearing T-shirts . There was literally no other people in the area (see photo) . The group of 4 of us ended up leaving after our drink finished instead of staying for a few more as planned . Why be so awful ? How expensive is gas ? This is my friends local spot (goes a couple of times a week) and said she’s been rude to his mates other occasions too…. It’s a real vibe ruiner for such a cool spot .

Super cute interior with a fireplace. Got recommended to me by multiple people as the best burgers in Melbourne and I would probably have to agree. Delicious fries too.

Juanita Peaches is a cozy diner in Brunswick that serves up classic American comfort food like fried chicken, burgers, burritos, and doughnuts. The fried chicken is a standout dish, marinated in a flavorful brine and coated with a crispy exterior. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service is friendly, making it a favorite spot for locals. While the menu may be simple, the quality of the food speaks for itself.
Great delicious food! The chicken was honestly amazing, crunchy and not oily at all. The cheeseburgers were seasoned well and tasted delicious. The fries were crunchy, lightly salted and perfect! The only issue we had was trying to read the menu as the lighting was quite dark but our phone fixed that. Great atmosphere and really chilled. Loved it and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Came for the first time at 12noon on a Sunday. Very busy not many seat available. Was lucky to get a table outside. We anticipated a bit of a wait for our meals, as they had actually run out of table numbers. Someone had to come to our table to confirm the ice coffee order. It came out, looked a bit ordinary, but tasted ok. Waited approximately 35 to 40 minutes for our food. Both meals were great, fish burrito bowl and the double cheeseburger, very tasty. We didn't try the donuts, but they looked fantastic. We would definitely come back.

Hidden spot with such chill vibes!!! They have an outdoor sitting area as well… perfect for those sunny days coming up!!! Everything was delicious! From the burgers to burritos! But I just say I would come back for their fitters and donuts!! I love that they have such a wide variety of fritters which u probs can’t find anywhere else!
Nomnomz.racxshi — Google review
Honest and unbiased review, I saw this place pop up on tiktok saying had better burgers than charrd without the wait. It was a good burger and great crispy chips, I got a Double cheeseburger it was a clean but slightly overcooked, it's not exactly charrd flavour although I can see how it would be compared to that, it was enjoyable and would definitely come backt o try the chicken next time. Now is it better than charrd.. they are two different types of burgers, Juanitas has a different distinct flavour, and trust me I would rather wait 10 mins for a burder rather than 2 hours. Charrd is a perfect flavour explosion, but Juanitas is nice.
AX C — Google review
@juanitapeaches is a neighbourhood diner in Brunswick serving up some of the best burgers, burritos and fried chicken around - and it’s also home to @alldaydonuts. The space has a warm, comfy, 70’s retro vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is stripped-back and no-fuss, simple in choice but definitely not in flavour. Honestly, it’s refreshing not to be overwhelmed with options! 🤗 ⭐ Double Cheeseburger – grass-fed brisket patties, perfectly caramelised, in their own house-made buns. We added hot peppers for an extra kick. You probably don’t need the double, these patties are a great size! One of the tastiest burgers ive ever had.
⭐ Fried Chicken Sandwich – skin-on chicken with next-level crunch. We added pickles, cheese and spice.
➖ Poutine
⭐ Popcorn Chicken – perfection with the pickles and house-made BBQ sauce.
✔️ Vanilla Malt Thickshake
✔️ Strawberry Cheesecake Donut
⭐ Banana Fritter Donut
➖ Iced Chocolate – not overly sweet Melbourne is definitely in the midst of a burger resurgence but this is one of the OG’s - and they’ve still absolutely got it. Packed from midday onwards, which says it all! 👏🏽 ⭐️ 4.7/5 💰 $$

Loses a star for being absolutely freezing. Really cute decor, love the vibe here. Believe the hype about the Chimichanga. It's honestly the BEST I've ever eaten. Very very impressed. Fried chicken batter a bit ordinary. Could use a bit more spice.
Princess B — Google review
Great ambience and nice decor. Unfortunately I am really sorry to say that the food was so underwhelming. Had the fried chicken burger and the fried fish bowl which were flavourless. French fries were nice. Last time I would trust foodie reviews
Shash L — Google review
If I could give this place 10 stars I would! This was an impromptu visit before I had to rush to the airport. The chicken burger was juicy and delicious, while the fries tasted fresh and so crispy - taste was on point! Plus the staff were incredibly nice! To top an already impressive experience off, I had absentmindedly left a recyclable bag at the restaurant and msged them on ig letting them know they could pass it on to one of the staff or someone else. To my surprise, they offered to mail it back to me all the way in Perth (and have!). I am so so thankful - they did not have to do this for me and deserve all the recognition and goodness in the world for it. Thank you so much 😊

Chicken shop
Fast food restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Fitzroy North, Super Tasty Rooster stands out as a beloved destination for chicken lovers. This charming eatery attracts a diverse crowd, much like the surrounding specialty wine shops and cafes. Their quarter chicken is not only generous but also bursting with flavor, complemented perfectly by their signature golden chips generously sprinkled with chicken salt.
Hot chips are delicious! Especially there sweet chilli chicken strip's & fresh nuggets! Also there schnitzels rolls! If you are ever in the area pop in you won't be disappointed!
Monica G — Google review
Chip were amazing! ask for extra of the seasoning they put on. Delicious chicken, skin, and stuffing. Scalloped potatoes were ok little heavy on the garlic Gravy was mid The rizogalo(rice pudding ) is probably the best I have had so far. You could literally feel the individual grains which I really liked.
Dom C — Google review
Chicken is dry as the dessert and it's not charcoal it's a rotisserie / might as well got to coles ... and the salad what is this no oil or seasoning ... put some effort in
Andrew C — Google review
As this place has grown or changed over the last 12?? Years I've know it, so too have the prices. The chips are always worthy of a stop in, as are other items, the names of which escape me. It's probably more of a mid range charcoalsl chicken shop, but a good one. Exceedingly popular with local and visitors alike, I'm glad the shop holds more people and the waiting space has increased. The ordering process seems to be a little more streamlined, but it still gets busy, sometimes packed, very easily. Slightly heading towards too expensive but just on the borderline.
Hugh M — Google review
Perfect feast for that post gym hunger. Reasonable prices, nice side salads. There are also roast potatoes and hot veggies. It’s another great chook shop that deserves five stars!

I have tried thousands of HSP styles but their atomic bomb surprised me a lot! I was enjoying every second of eating it. Thanks to their kind staff and super tasty bomb! Love it

Chips were pretty good but the chicken in the Souvlaki was so dry! This was not worth the cost, there are other places far better in the area for lower prices.
Emily P — Google review
Really very super tasty. The contrast with roast chicken from across the road at Piedmontes is stark - the Piedmonte's chicken is scrawny and bland in comparison. The chips are also super tasty, and there is a reasonably extensive (for a place of this type) salad bar.

Chicken restaurant
American restaurant
Chicken shop
Belles Hot Chicken Melbourne CBD offers a variety of crispy chicken options, including tenders, wings, and drumsticks with a crunchy coating. You can choose your preferred level of spiciness, from mild to tear-jerking hot. The menu features Nashville-style crispy chicken served with a selection of sauces like Belles hot sauce and Mississippi Comeback. The ambiance is described as a hipster hangout with good service.
A meal at Belles is undoubtedly quite a satisfying experience if you're craving hearty, tasty comfort food, The burgers are juicy and flavorful, with a perfect balance of toppings and a soft, bun. 🍔The wings are crispy and tender, coated in delicious spices that hit all the right notes—definitely a highlight of the menu! 😋😋The curly fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. 👌👌 The staff are friendly and attentive, making sure our order was perfect. The atmosphere is casual and warm, perfect for a laid-back meal with friends or family. Prices are reasonable considering the generous portions. Belles, I’ll definitely be returning soon! 👍😀
Nancy V — Google review
First of all, I'd like to thank the staff for their warm welcome and excellent service. I was excited to find halal Nashville chicken in Melbourne. However, the experience fell a bit short of my expectations—but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the food. I tried the tenders with Traveller Spice (mild). The flavour was decent, but the breading could be crispier. I’d rate it 6/10. I also recommend getting ranch sauce on the side for dipping. I wouldn’t recommend the coleslaw, as it wasn’t to my taste. I prefer a sweeter version, whereas this one was quite the opposite. Rating: 2/10. The buffalo burger was the highlight of the night—the sauce, cheese, and overall flavour were deliciously messy. Rating: 8/10. Overall, the experience wasn’t bad, just not quite what I expected. However, I’d love to visit again and try different menu items. Second visit on 12th of Feb 25, got all good stuff deal $60 for two, the amount is good but I believe the breading could be better. The service was slower this time than the first visit.
Karim G — Google review
My friends and I came here for the first time, and the staff were super friendly and provided great service. We ordered the Belles Bucket with the Traveller flavor — it had a nice, balanced taste, not too spicy, and gave off a real American-style fried chicken vibe. I really liked the pickles on the side — they went perfectly to cut through the richness. The side dishes like salad, fries, mashed potatoes and corn cheese were the best! Everything tasted amazing together. We’ll definitely be coming back again!

We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Pam at Belles Hot Chicken in the CBD, and she made our experience truly outstanding. From the moment we arrived, she welcomed us with a warm, genuine smile that immediately made us feel at home. Pam went above and beyond throughout our visit—showing initiative, delivering exceptional customer service, and demonstrating a true passion for what she does. She’s not only attentive and professional, but also incredibly personable, making conversation feel natural and heartfelt. It’s rare to come across someone who blends friendliness, efficiency, and professionalism so seamlessly. Pam is a standout and a true asset to the Belles team. Thank you for making our visit so memorable!

My girlfriend struggled to pick a place to eat at for atleast an hour, my lord am i glad it landed at Belles. As soon as i walked into the establishment i was amazed by the decor and music. Really felt like i was taken to a totally different timezone, it was amazing and really felt unique, absolutely nailed it. The food we got was great aswell, the chicken was done great and was delicious especially with the sauce. Staff were really fast and didnt have to wait at all pretty much. I cannot suggest this place enough, just do yourself a damn favour and go to Belles. PS can you send me merch?
Grag — Google review
We came here for a date night and it was so good we brought our friends back a few weeks later! The chicken is amazing (the nashville tenders are the best) and we LOVED the mac n cheese. The interior is really cool too and gives an American diner style of eating. Definitely will be coming back again. :)

Vibes are immaculate. Food was delicious. I love that they have a small menu because you don’t have to waste time trying to decide what to get. Went in with my mum & sister & we all walked out happy. I ordered the iced tea & it was amazing - I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. It’s a shame we live on peninsula bc I’d stop by just for that. The staff were lovely too. Thanks for having us. I’ll definitely be recommending Belles to more people.
K — Google review
Burgers were 10/10!!!! Best burgers I’ve had in a long while. But, the wings that we ordered in the spice level which was the 3rd option (can’t remember which one) felt very unseasoned. It didn’t taste like anything at all, and that was a bit disappointing. The fries, however, were so good! Crinkle cut, crispy, soft all at the same time. Loved them. Waiting time was about 7 minutes. And nobody even looked our way at the waiting area the whole time. Would have appreciated a bit of acknowledgement, but considering the fact that only one attendant was rushing to and from tables, it was understandable i guess. I’d definitely go again for the fries and burgers!

Sonnys Fried Chicken & Burgers is a popular spot known for its mouthwatering fried chicken and burgers. Located inside the Curtin, this eatery offers a variety of options to satisfy your cravings. The signature fried chicken is brined for 24 hours and can be ordered by dark or white meat, drum'n'thigh, half or whole bird.
The fried chicken hype at this place is justified. The meat was tender and juicy and jus the right amount of batter. We order the half Bird (5 piece Chicken),the Juicy Lucy and a Cheese Burger with a Jug of Beer and Load Em Up Fries and Sweet Potato Fries as sides The Cheese Burger was aight but The Juicy Lucy was good also The Load Em Up Fries had Cheese, bacon and gravy and I gotta say that gravy made all the difference,it was soo good Would definitely come back again to eat here as the fried chicken was amazing Highly reccomended!

A local friend brought us here for lunch. First impressions are that it has a nice rustic and vintage feel with lots of vintage decor plastering the walls. When we walked in, we were kinda confused on how to order since no one greeted us or anything, in the end we sat at a random table and walked to the counter to place our orders. We ordered a whole bird, Sonny Burgers and both the Load Em Up Fries and Guacamole Cheese Fries. And it took really long for our orders to arrive . To start off with what I did not like, it was the Burger, the fried chicken meat was decent but the batter and meat lacked good flavour, all I could taste was overpowering one dimensional spiciness. I could not taste the egg mayo at all too. Then we had the Load Em Up Fries that were basically gravy on fries. The gravy made the fries soft and mushy which I can see some people liking but it is not really my thing, though the gravy was quite flavourful. My favourite of the two we ordered was the Guacamole Cheese Fries, the taste of guac and the fries went quite well together but was not mind blowing. Lastly, I ate some of the Fried Chicken, it was quite tender and juicy but as with the same complaints as the meat in the burger, the flavours were lacking. All in all, this is a decent fried chicken place but I don’t think I would return to eat it again. I have eaten better fried chicken.

The best burger 🍔 in Melbourne. You can’t miss the house special Juicy Lucy Burger, a juicy two patties burger that you will remember. Also the spicy chicken wings are awesome…all of the above paired with great beer. 🍺 We will be back for sure

Funky pub food at its best. We ordered the cheeseburger (excellent) and the peach fried chicken burger which was super tasty but unruly to eat. The Mac n cheese would have been excellent if it wasn’t lacking a little salt.

Great juicy, crispy, fried chicken, the Sonny’s burger was the way to go. Drumstick was crispy and delicious, breast piece was very juicy

They’ve still got it, burger game is tough in Melbourne. Happy to say that Sonny’s can still hold their own and make a great burger.

Nice chicken place! Every Wednesday is chicken day, we can enjoy 1 kg chicken wings with $20. Spicy seasoning was really spicy , I should’ve chosen regular 😂 but many choose of beers were nice. Thanks!

El Jannah Chicken Braybrook has quickly become a beloved spot since its arrival from Sydney in April. Known for its delectable charcoal chicken, the restaurant offers a delightful experience with crunchy-skinned, smoke-infused flavors that truly stand out. While fried options are available, the rotisserie chicken is the star of the show. Pair your meal with Lebanese sides like creamy hummus, zesty garlic sauce, and refreshing tabouli to elevate your dining experience.
My family and I enjoyed both charcoal grilled and fried chicken which were tender and juicy. The fried chickens were bigger than the pictures on the menu which was a pleasant surprise. There was a miscommunication about the new loaded hummus between the lady at the counter and me but she was very generous, kind and friendly and promptly fixed the problem. My daughter loved the chips with chicken salt. The size of bread was generous compared to other shops where give customers several quarter-cut pieces. Will definitely come back again and will also use delivery service for a lazy dinner.

Service was quick. Charcoal chicken taste great, garlic dip was second to none, chips was crispy. However, the lettuce in fattoush salad was a bit sad, it was already rusty. I mean, it's still safe to eat but people would expect fresh ingredients.
Dennis C — Google review
My husband and myself always pass EL Jannah so we decided to try it out . I got the 1/4 chicken meal the chicken was hot and juicy. My fries were hot and cooked well... My husband got the 6 fried wings and of course, I had to try one too. lol 😆 they were juicy and moist, but also nice and crispy 👌🏼 hope one day you'll offer hot n spicy wings... the service was great.. We were in the restaurant at 12:30 so it was quite busy but we still got great service the inside was clean... We'll definitely be back to try other items...

I got the 1/4 chicken and chips, was the tiniest 1/4 chicken i have ever seen!! My friend got a wrap with chips and drink. It came without the chips. We had to ask a couple of times where they were. Very expensive for what we got! Won't be un a hurry to go back, and won't be recommending to anyone

First time trying El jannah. We ordered our food, went to pick it up, very dissapointing everything was cold as. Atleast have so.e manners and keep the food in the warmer untill the customers co.es to pick it up, you know your food is not cheap, its expensive. So we didnt pay to have cold dinner

Had a family meal take away from here. Taste was good but it's also expensive. The sitting area was clean, and the food was handed over without delay. The Self order process is also easy.

We ordered a mixed chicken meal. I preferred the fried chicken over the charcoal chicken—it was very crispy and tender.

If you're on the hunt for a deliciously indulgent experience in Melbourne, look no further than F.A.T. Fried and Tasty. This Brunswick East gem is all about embracing the joy of fried chicken, inviting you to set aside any thoughts of dieting and dive into their mouthwatering offerings. Their signature Southern-style chicken is expertly coated and fried to achieve that perfect crunch we all crave. F.A.T.
Food is wonderful and fresh. Sauce taste nice and the milkshake was super good. Large fries is massive. All the staff were nice and kind-hearted, helping us with any need. The atmosphere and interior gives a rapper style vibe with pictures such as the rapper biggie on the wall. Note that there is a 1% surcharge on cards and 15% surcharge on public holidays.

Enjoyable lunch on a Monday so it was not busy at all. Had the pickle and mustard chicken burger which was great, greasy and tasty. Prices are average, service was good and it’s generally a nice place. Note it’s just chicken here, no beef burgers. Tough competition for burgers in the immediate travel, overall I recommend a visit here.

Located in a convenient location, FAT houses all your fried food classics with a somewhat Southern American twang (yeehaw). Nothing overtly revolutionary about the menu or the products, but hits right if you’re craving something fatty. The chips are bit on the average side, the chicken is better than KFC. The restaurant itself is dimly lit.
Leon B — Google review
The food at Fried and Tasty (F.A.T.) is simply superb. Chicken galore in every different style is on the menu. I opted for the Waffles and a side of Fries and they were spectacular.
Normandy J — Google review
amazing burgers fried or grilled.I always get my chicken burgers grilled. The burger itself is very soft and the sauce inside is just delicious right combination with everything. The fries comed with different combinations mine is with mayo and chili’s on the top. Everything is ordered separately but keep in mind the fries sizes are massive. parking on the street. worth every dollar. Good for families and large groups
Sher M — Google review
F.A.T was one of the first American-style fried chicken specialists in Melbourne and still one of the better ones I’ve tried. The Chicken Cheese burger always hit well — chicken was juicy and not dry, though sometimes the crispiness wasn’t consistent. Still, the portions were huge compared to most places. The tenders/chicken bites were okay — a bit on the dry side, but would’ve been much better with a dipping sauce. The gravy chips were elite though — proper comfort food, almost poutine-level, and paired perfectly with the fried chicken.
Christopher W — Google review
Delicious Chicken and Waffles. Travelled from the south east up to Brunswick because it has been recommended and definitely worth the trip. Big servicing sizes and good quality chicken with fresh waffles.
Natalie B — Google review
The chicken is crunchy, juicy and flavourful. I’ve had both the original and the spicy and WOW. Don’t let the original fool you. It packs massive mouthfuls of flavour, from the breading to the juices it’s exactly what you’d want in a fried chicken. The sauce is amazing, tangy with a bit of sweetness, pairs perfectly with chicken and chips alike. Music choice inside is very on brand, though the high ceilings and concrete aesthetic make it quite loud even when half the tables are full. Be advised these are American sized portions! Definitely would recommend this gem!

If you're on the hunt for a quintessential Aussie experience, look no further than Smokey Chooks. This charming neighborhood spot is renowned for its warm owners who greet you like an old friend and serve up some of the juiciest charcoal chicken you'll ever taste. The free-range Bannockburn chook is brined to perfection before being slow-roasted over coal, resulting in tender meat and irresistibly crispy skin seasoned with rosemary and salt.
Last week, a tantalizing smoky aroma lured me across the street to Smokey Chooks, and what an incredible find it was! I’d seen rave reviews online, but I was skeptical whether they truly captured the essence of this place. Well, I’m here to tell you, they absolutely do! The chicken here is nothing short of delectable. It’s crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, and so juicy on the inside that it just melts in your mouth. There’s no exaggeration in saying this is a must-try. I was so impressed that I even hopped on a tram from downtown just to satisfy my craving for their chicken. Although they opened at 5 PM, I made sure to get there by 5:11 because I couldn’t bear the thought of missing out on this culinary delight. Smokey Chooks, you’ve got yourself a fan for life!
Anthony T — Google review
Smokey Chooks is a top-tier charcoal chicken joint — no frills, no fluff, just seriously good food. It’s a classic get in, get out kind of place, and they do it right. When I visited, they were busy prepping a heap of catering orders, so there was a limit on chicken per customer and a bit of a wait — but fair enough, I came just as they opened. The charcoal chicken itself was the highlight — super juicy, moist, and flavourful, with barely any dry spots. The marinade was just right — bold enough to stand out without overpowering the natural flavour of the meat. The chips were absolutely elite — some of the best I’ve had. Not sure what the seasoning is (tasted like a punchy chicken salt blend), but it was spot on. Also tried the dim sims, which were surprisingly fresh and way better than what you’d get at your typical hot food bar. The potato scallop/potato bake was also a standout — fresh, not overly sauced, and had a great neutral base that balanced the meal. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Christopher W — Google review
Smokey chooks is the absolute best chicken and chips you will ever eat!!! We’ve been regular customers for a while now and it’s always 10/10. I don’t know how they make the chicken so tasty and the seasoning on the crispy golden chips is the best. The service is fantastic and they’re extremely well priced! Highly recommend!! (Just make sure to call up and order, as they can sell out!)
Olivia T — Google review
I went here mostly out of curiosity because I’ve heard a lot of people say this was the best charcoal chicken in Melbourne. I have to say they are right, even on par with Clem’s in Sydney. Chips were perfectly cooked and fresh and just the perfect amount of salt. The chicken was frankly amazing, I got a half and could have eaten a whole one it was just that good. The only criticism I could possibly make is it would be nice if there were more salad/veggie sides on offer. They did have roast veggies (which I plan to try next time) but a potato salad or peas would go down a treat. The owners were incredibly nice and the place is clean as a whistle (rare for a truly top tier chicken shop). So yeah, 5 stars. Definitely will be going again.
Inci K — Google review
Believe the hype, the chicken here is exceptional. I came here on on a Friday night around 5:30pm and ordered a whole chicken with large chips. The boss was very generous with the chips that it was falling out of the paper bag and into the plastic bag. Excellent problem to have. The whole chicken is cut into 8 pieces for your convenience. Excellent seasoning of rosemary, chicken salt and olive oil. But not so oily that the plastic bag and your hands will be overwhelmed.

I’ve been ordering takeaway from Smokey Chooks since I moved to Richmond 3 years ago. It dawned on me that I’m yet to rate how great they are! They helped me cater my son’s birthday and made the whole experience so easy! Guests loved the food (no surprises there). Thanks again!!

Chargrill Charlie's Camberwell has quickly become a beloved spot in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs since its opening three years ago, adding to the charm of Sydney's renowned charcoal chicken scene. This eatery is not just about poultry; it has made salads a highlight on the menu, impressing customers with their fresh and vibrant options. Diners rave about generous portion sizes at incredibly affordable prices—like the mouthwatering chicken schnitzel dinner that comes with delicious fries reminiscent of fast-food favorites.
One of my fave chicken shops and I’m so glad that this chain also has stores in Melbourne too - in Camberwell and Malvern. _ To start with, you can choose between the traditional roast or Portuguese style chicken. my personal preference is roast chicken as the chicken is more juicy and you also get stuffing too but Portuguese has a more smoky taste. _ Then the sides. And there are a lot of sides to choose from! From hot sides like roasted veg, mac and cheese, curries - it’s endless options! Then you will see all the cold sides on the side - so many tempting fresh salads! _ But also save room for dessert, There are tempting puddings in the display plus also soft serve as well. _ We had the family goodness pack for $49.90 which includes a whole chicken of your choice and 2 sides (we got the honey mustard roast veggies and the chicken Cesar salad which is loaded with chicken - both sides I’d highly recommend! _ We dined at the Camberwell store which has plenty of seating plus it’s conveniently located next to a public car park.

Definitely try the Texas chicken, that was the winner for our group of hungry adults. A nice selection of chicken flavours, salads and sides. Lots of seating and great seating, just watch out for the after school hours as there are a lot of students around taking advantage of the happy hour $2 chips. Overall a lovely experience and tasty meal for individuals to large groups. See the photos attached for a good idea of the assortment of options and the menu as well

Tried this place with the family for lunch. I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the food to be honest. The two chicken schnitzels and chips dishes were average. The chicken very dry and chewey and the chips were also too salty. The large serving of roast vegetables were mushy and not tasty at all and we only ate half. The schntzel meal was okay. You can pick three sides. The portion size was decent but it costs around $24, for a fast food outlet. Not sure if the food is this poor quality all the time, or if I picked a bad day, but for lunch time on a Saturday, i expected better quality food.

First time trying Chargrill Charlie’s Camberwell tonight and I was really impressed! The chicken was so yummy, juicy, and full of flavour, and they have a great selection of sauces and dips to go with it. I was looked after by a young gentleman wearing a bandana (sorry I didn’t catch your name!) who gave top-notch customer service. The atmosphere was great too. I’ll definitely be coming back again!

If you’re on the hunt for comfort food done right, Chargrill Charlie’s is the place to be! Since 1989, this Aussie favorite has been delivering consistently delicious rotisserie chicken, burgers, wraps, and salads. The casual, welcoming atmosphere makes it a local staple, and the food never disappoints. They also offer catering services, so you’re covered for any event. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re seriously missing out! **Items Ordered:** - Family Goodness Pack $49.90 - 1/2 Chicken Dinner $24.90 - Jack's Pumpkin Stack $7.90

I got a quarter chicken and chips at Chargrill Chariles (Camberwell) but I could easily ordered the other items like the hamburger because they all look so good. It's in a massive space with plenty of seating to enjoy.
Normandy J — Google review
Chips were with minimal salt, serving size was big. Roll wasnt crispy, no sauce inside big chunks of tomato, wasnt worth it.
Ammy N — Google review
Quite average for what you pay. In my recent visit I received a tiny portion of protein. For $23, I’m not sure this is good value. Really nice restaurant with friendly staff. The chicken was juicy and flavourful, the fries were fresh and crisp, but would have been good to offer sauce or a type of salt on them to season them. The salad options are epic (will have to come back to try these), and there are many many other options like burgers to choose from. Definitely worth a visit. 🙌🏼

Pelicana Chicken has recently opened its first Australian store in Melbourne, offering ultra-crispy, 48-hour marinated chicken available in bone-in or boneless options. The secret seasoning and a variety of toppings such as wasabi dust and honey butter add unique flavors to the chicken, which is served with pickles and coleslaw. Additionally, the restaurant offers a range of other dishes including kimchi fried rice, kimchi pancake, cheese buldak noodles, and more.
Went to check out their newly released - Cheese truffle chicken ($28) & Waffle tower ($26). Overall, their food is more towards the sweet side. High recommend to try their sweet chilli and their fried chicken is no doubt amazing! 👌🏻

Nestled in a stunning building adorned with intricate leadlights and expansive windows, Cookshop Rotisserie stands out as more than just your typical chicken shop. Under the expert guidance of former Mamasita head chef Andrew Logan, this culinary gem offers an array of free-range chicken options from La Ionica or Bannockburn that are so tender they practically fall off the bone.
Stopped in here for a late lunch and had a wonderful meal. Quarter chicken (breast) was succulent and juicy with a crispy skin exterior. The sides were also great: quarter chicken meal comes with one side but they let me get a mix of the different cooked veggies to try them all: caramelized pumpkin was a favourite, though the roast fennel was also quite good. Quality food and good portions for reasonable price ($16 for the quarter chicken meal) - will definitely be back!

The chicken was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavour, while the chips were crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The freshly made cabbage salad had just the right amount of kick. The fragrant gravy complemented everything beautifully. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Be sure to check out the fridge—there are homemade apple pies that looked delicious, which I'll have to try next time. great local chicken shop, chicken packed with flavour and still juicy , the chips are also great, crispy but soft in the centre and the seasoning is to die for. super well priced, generous portion on the chips too. the paper the put on the bottom so the box doesn’t get oily is a great touch too

Edit. Prompt response from the owner and a refund. I will try them another night and check the product before it’s bagged. ** Phoned ahead to collect a chicken. Already bagged when I arrived. Opened it at home and it was undercooked with the flesh bloody. And it had charcoal embedded in the skin. Completely inedible. The great service doesn’t make up for the crappy product.

McManos Chicken Bar, owned by Dave Chen for 18 years, is renowned for its exceptional chicken and crinkle-cut chips. The chips are fried fresh to order and come with a generous dusting of housemade secret chicken salt, which earned them the title of the best chips in Melbourne in a 2019 poll. The chicken at McManos is described as life-changing, with an otherworldly crispiness and transcendent juiciness that will spoil you for all other meals.
Incredible food and service. We came with my family and had two whole chickens with chips, salad, and roast potatoes, and everything was delicious. Besides, the guy who helped us with everything was super friendly. 100% recommended.

ORDERED: 🐓 1/2 chicken ($9.50) 🥣 Medium gravy ($2.00) 🍟 Medium chips ($5.50) 🥗  Medium Coleslaw ($3.00) + 🥗  complimentary steamed peas! We paid $12.12pp between two, which included a card surcharge. REVIEW: We chose to dine in and really soak up the ambience at McManos chicken bar. 🍽️ It's not built for dine in service, as we were armed with the task of cutting through 1/2 the chicken with a plastic knife. Luckily, when it got difficult at the bone, it was soft enough to be torn apart. Everything was also presented in plastic tubs. Nonetheless, the plates were durable, and it was nice to see the chips be made fresh on hand. My interest was initially piqued because McManos was crowned best chips in 2019. Unfortunately, the crinkle cut chips are replaced with your standard thick cut fries. They were good with chicken salt, but not as unique as I was hoping for. 🥔🥔 The chicken skin is crispy and immersed with salt and flavour, while the meat itself is juicy. The best part is the stuffing, herby and moist, which is just the way it should be done. On to the sides, the gravy was a little gloopy, but it was better to have than none. Overall, the food was relatively mid, but it has an appealing affordable price tag. Can see why there were so many people lining up and around, keen to get a takeaway box.

Nothing special about the chips. It was your average chips cooked well. Chicken was on the dry side .Chicken skin could have had more flavour of some kind but this places redeeming quality was its proper old school stuffing and some top notch gravy . If I am in the area again and craving some chicken and chips I will def try this place again.

Don’t let the old school interior and exterior fool you, this place has been around forever and has the best hot chips in town (as voted in a 2019 Nova100 Poll) made fresh to order and a delicious chicken schnitty roll. When I asked what’s in it, the owner goes “nothing”. Cheese, Mayo, chicken, simple. Perfect schnitzel, soft bun, I personally enjoy mine with more fillings but for what it was, delish.

Magic Mountain Saloon is a vibrant and trendy bar and eatery located in Melbourne. The establishment offers a unique fusion of Modern Australian and Thai cuisine, including delectable dishes like sticky beef ribs, tofu red curry, Peking duck with fat rice noodles, and magic mountain BBQ chicken. The venue features neon lighting and a diverse menu that caters to breakfast as well.
Just got out to magic mountain for a yummy dinner. The atmosphere was great with lots of fun concepts. We sat at one of the red light booths and wooed a great meal. I was dying to try the Mossman curry since I haven’t had a god bowl since I got back from Thailand… delicious!! All our apps were great and the level of spice on the papaya salad was perfect. Come try this place!!

So we tried the bottomless club brunch on during the weekend. Good: the food were totally delicious and plenty of food Bad: it’s bottomless, even when our party wasn’t a huge drinkers we basically got 2 drinks for the whole session. I would say the venue did not hire enough staff to serve the bookings. Considering there were 2 large groups booked on the day and other tables booked for the bottomless there were 2 staff working only. We waited half an hour for our drinks and staff was nice enough to apologise it’s being delayed but that’s it. We got our drinks basically when our session was almost finish. This is quite poor considering the drinks already didn’t have enough alcohol, but 2 drinks is all we got for bottomless is just terrible. Overall quite disappointed.

This is a beautiful Thai restaurant which serves a vast range of dishes! You can even opt in for a “Feed Me” option where they serve you a range of dishes selected by the chef that day! That’s what we chose that day and we were very pleased with the options! Our favourite was the fried fish and the chicken curry! Lighting inside is quite dim - so the photos aren’t great. Staff is attentive and kind and the atmosphere is pretty good.

Came here with a group after a being recommended a couple of times. You can add me to that list of recommenders. Their Thai fusion dishes are a great people pleaser and everyone left happy. We dined from their feed me menu and each dish had a slight twist on traditional Thai cuisine. My favourites were the green curry snapper and whole fried barramundi. The staff was friendly and very accommodating but I felt they were a little understaffed for the number of groups they had to service. Their people did an amazing job under the circumstances. The venue had decent vibes.

very nice and vibrant restaurant, great vibes, we came during happy hour, $11 wine and $16 spritz, with $5 dumplings. the dumplings are delicious, recommended to go back in a group, great for a date or group of friends. we ordered fresh mango and sticky rice, Thai tea profiteroles, snapper green curry, fat rice noodles, cured kingfish, and beef short ribs. food was delicious.

Dinner with my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. FOOD: we opted for the Feed Me which the menu doesn’t explain. When we asked the waiter, his only answer was “the quantity of food”. The meal was quite forgettable, flavours didn’t really match other dishes picked for us, the “dumplings” tasted like burnt brownies, the drunken noodles were too salty and tasted like it was made up on the spot, the waiter bringing our food didn’t clearly say what the dish was so we were guessing majority of the night. ATMOSPHERE: Lighting is so terribly red, it made it difficult to read the menu, see the food and take any decent photos without the flash of another phone. Music was soooo random, it didn’t match the vibes of the atmosphere in general. Overall experience, lovely dinner, just wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for good thai food

Diner
Restaurant
Butchers Diner is a popular spot in Melbourne's CBD known for its all-day diner offerings with an international twist. Despite the challenges posed by Covid, this tiny American-style diner has maintained its status as a favorite for meat-centric dishes. The menu features a variety of options including steak and eggs, fried chicken, pork tongue skewers, and salads. The diner also offers daily specials that are budget-friendly, making it accessible to all diners.
We had our anniversary dinner here and it did not disappoint. We both got the Butcher’s cut of the day which was the Wagyu Flank. Absolutely delicious. Keen on trying their burgers next time as those looked phenomenal too!

This spot always come out as recommended place for a late night meal. Came here on a Saturday and luckily wasn't packed. They serve a whole bunch of meat and the place is nice and vibey. We got the burger and the special of the day which was the french dip. The burger was decent, nothing special, but done right. The french dip is what I enjoyed. The meat was nice and tender and the jus gave it more depth. I enjoyed our meal here and would recommend for late night cravings. It's a bit pricey for the serving size tho.

Enjoyed the experience here. Coeliac safe gluten free options, as long as you don’t have any of the gf bread options. Very fresh tasty Greek salad, lovely chips, friendly staff and fun atmosphere. Generous portions for a very reasonable price. Recommend.
Em — Google review
The place is quite basic and lacks ambiance. The food is simple—though I’ll highlight the pastrami sandwich, which was tasty. However, the steak & eggs were disappointing, especially for a meat-focused venue; the dish was underwhelming and poorly presented. For the same price, you can find better options elsewhere easily. It’s fine for a quick snack or casual bite with low expectations or for a meal after a big night out, as mentioned in most reviews. Service is fast and friendly, but there are no restrooms—you need to use the pub next door. It’s clear most regulars are local workers grabbing a simple meal. I ended up here by chance and wouldn’t return or recommend it. At night, it turns into a bar with tapas until 1 a.m., but I’ll leave my comments there.

Tried this place with my boys on the way to the footy Friday night. Was easy to find a seat as we were early. Son had the steak sandwich and the rest of us had the cheeseburger with bacon. Both said was the best they had ever eaten. Chips were brilliant as well. Will definitely be back.

This was my son’s recommendation, after I told him there was nowhere good to eat lunch in the city and that I was heading to Fitzroy for a burger. What a great diner, and what a great recommendation! This simple, clean and vibrant diner brings quick and efficient service, a great menu and fantastic food. I had the simplest item on the menu, the hamburger (no risks taken here). It was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Cooked perfectly, full of flavour and with an excellent bun. Every bite was a joy. Mostly shred counter seating inside, but well suited to the venue. Plenty of outdoor dining on the picturesque’Paris’ end of Bourke St. well worth a visit.

Dear Reader, for the love of god, go here! I cannot enough express my emphatic recommendation. I came here late at night with my girlfriend, hoping for a late night snack. Each bite was incomparable. It was a million org*sms. It was a look into the future.  It was like biting in the sun and a million golden rays comforting the world. It was only a cheeseburger and I will be dreaming about this for years to come. Godspeed.

Chicken restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Rooster Bar is a delightful culinary haven that boasts ample seating both indoors and outdoors, making it an inviting spot for any meal. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Portuguese chicken, which outshines the regular charcoal variety with its rich flavors and beautifully caramelized skin. Diners can enjoy juicy chickens cooked to perfection over charcoal, available whole or in various portions. The sides are equally impressive, particularly their chips—though be sure to request extra chicken salt for that perfect seasoning!
I have been coming here for a very long time and has been amazing each time, the prices are extremely reasonable and the food is top quality. Cannot recommend the fillet burger combo and a few wings on the side enough, absolutely love it!

Came to try the schnitzel burger as I heard it's a good deal. As soon as I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised with the array of delicious food displayed in the cabinets, everything looked fresh and it smelt amazing. Although tempted to try the other menu items, I just ordered the burger and it did not disappoint. The bread was fresh, chicken well seasoned, and can't go wrong with mayo and lettuce. A perfectly done, simple chicken burger. One of the best chicken burgers I've had considering price and portion size. Highly recommend and will be back, and definitely will try the other menu items too!

@roosterbar_fairfield 📍Fairfield Rooster Bar is a charcoal chicken shop located on Station St in Fairfield Village. Every day of the week, they serve up freshly cooked, chemical-free chicken. 🐓 I actually saw this spot pop up in a post by @tightarsesofmelbourne promoting their Chicken Burger and I was literally salivating at the sight if it. I was around the area only a couple days later and took that as a sign. 🤣 The Chicken Burger comes in at $10.50 and it is huge! It felt clean, I loved the use of the fluffy Turkish roll, the chicken itself was extremely moist and steaming hot. The chips could’ve been crispier but had great seasoning! The value here is great and the service is also super friendly, lots of regulars popping in for their lunch time fix! I’d definitely grab one again or try some more items from the menu when I’m in Fairfield next. 💯 ⭐️ 4.3/5 💸 $

I will definitely come back here again! I got a 1/4 chicken and chips for $9.50. There were so many chips but it was so well seasoned and fresh. The chicken was the same story. Very big portion size as well, this was a struggle to finish and I usually eat 1/2 chicken and chips with ease 🤣 Service was extremely quick, especially during the lunchtime rush. I got my food within five minutes. Rooster Bar also has plenty of indoor seating available.

Ordered through Uber Eats. Chips were well seasoned, good texture but arrived barely warm with lid not closed on box and not full like they usually are. (Space in box) Creamy scalloped potatoes were very disappointing. Sliced potato were just cooked, barely seasoned, lacked ANY creamy sauce throughout layers. Small amount of liquid in bottom of container. Tasted like slightly seasoned milk. Or watered down cream. Creamy potato bake should be as the description says, "creamy". Potatoes should be well cooked with a thick cheesy cream sauce. $11 per serve for what you get was very disappointing. Peas were perfectly cooked and tasty. Can of drink wasn't chilled, just cold. Followed driver on route via Uber app. He had another delivery on the way to my home apparently then went the long way around to my place. Choosing to drive down a main road instead of 2 side streets which would have shortened his trip and the time my meal arrived.
Lisa G — Google review
Ordered the schnitzel burger was good but had a bit too much mayo and lettuce making it a bit wet and oily. The atmosphere was nice with all the kids having a teary after finishing the term. The dim sims were good but I couldn’t see any chicken salt or soy sauce which people normally have Dimis with.

Victor Churchill in Melbourne is a unique blend of a high-end butcher shop and an intimate dining experience. The Melbourne location features a compact bar counter at the rear of the shop, offering some of the best steak in the country. Guests can indulge in take-home favorites like Kurobuta porchetta and rabbit terrine, which can be cooked to order. The exclusive offerings at The Bar are highly recommended.
We had a fantastic experience at Victor Churchill. The food was truly excellent — every dish was beautifully prepared, and the quality of the meat stood out immediately. It was incredibly tender and flavourful, practically melting in our mouths. The service was just as impressive. The staff were not only attentive and professional, but also friendly and fun to chat with, which added a relaxed and enjoyable vibe to the evening. Overall, a memorable meal with great food and great people. We’ll definitely be back.

Pretty good for today’s economy. Definitely high quality food that I could not make at home myself—my general benchmark for good restaurant food. The place itself is nicely designed and decorated and the staff are friendly. Service staff got a bit confused about when our meals were coming out and they forgot to ask if we wanted sauces with our steak, but that wasn’t a major issue to us. Overall, a good Melbourne restaurant for high quality cured meat and steak.

Holy moly! What a way to kick off this review. Victor Churchill is hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The décor is incredible, you cannot help but keep looking around and noticing new details, and the food was just on another level. We had the beef short rib croquettes, scallops, beef tartare, porchetta and the beef zabuton. Every single dish was spot on and cooked perfectly. But the real star? The crème brûlée. Absolute showstopper. Big shoutout to Barney and Kiki as well, the service was flawless. We mentioned in passing that we were celebrating a very overdue birthday, and when dessert came out it had a candle and a birthday message. Such a thoughtful touch and it really made the night. Easily one of my top dining experiences. Highly recommend!

This was hands down the best steak we’ve had in Melbourne. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Although each seating is limited to two hours, the waiting staff and kitchen team worked in perfect harmony to ensure customers did not feel rushed. The appetisers were all fantastic—especially the steak tartare, which absolutely lived up to its high reputation in other reviews. But the standout for us was the king prawn: incredibly fresh, and the sauce was so delicious we found ourselves asking for extra bread just to soak up every last drop! We were a party of four, each ordering a different cut of steak. There was a small mix-up with my order, but the team handled it with such professionalism and efficiency that my correct cut was brought out within minutes. Every steak was of superb quality and cooked to perfection. We left a generous tip—not only to cover the extra steak we took home due to the mix-up, but also to show our appreciation for the outstanding service provided by the entire team. Their professionalism and attention to detail truly made the evening memorable. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

Walking into Victor Churchill is cool, but the real fun starts when the food shows up. I can totally say this place has amazing food that's just way better than most. Everything I tried was delicious. You can tell they use really good stuff and know how to cook it. The meat, especially, was amazing and so tender. Seriously, it's the best meat I've ever had in Melbourne. Every bite was awesome, cooked just right, and packed with flavour. And it's not just the main dishes. The appetizers and starters were also really great, getting you ready for a fantastic dining experience. The dessert was truly the cherry on the cake, topping off an already incredible experience. I highly recommend Victor Churchill if you want a fantastic eating experience. Head Chef Lucas and his team do an awesome job, giving you a food adventure that will make you want to come back again and again. If you love food, you gotta check this place out!

The food & service have always been 5 star on every visit - the staff are friendly & professional. Sometimes when passing, I stop in to buy a dessert from the fridge to take home as a treat & they've all been delicious.

The steak is one of the best I’ve ever had. I got the special that was on, can’t remember the exact name of it but it was fantastic. My girlfriend got the eye fillet, it was so tender and tasty. The sides were fantastic, entrees fantastic and the service was really great. Very attentive, our waiter asked if we came for any social occasion and we told him it was for a birthday. He then got us a little chocolate gift with a candle as a surprise. Delightful all the way through. Would go again & highly recommend.

Service was 10/10. The calamari was very fresh, and the steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare with a beautiful chargrilled flavour. The chips served with the beef tartare were nice and crunchy, though the tartare itself could use a bit more seasoning. The cigar was full of rich beef flavour and cheesy goodness, with a pleasant crunch from the pistachios — a really good appetiser overall.

This restaurant was often passed by without much consideration, but after dining there for lunch, a pleasant surprise awaited. The food's quality exceeded expectations; the salads and chicken were delectable. Looking forward to the next visit, one is eager to try the seafood burger and chicken wings. Observing other patrons, it becomes apparent that they too relish these dishes. A flavorful and succulent chicken burger is accompanied by chips that unfortunately lacked proper drainage, resulting in an oily serving.
Amazing dinner! Chicken was super moist and tasty! The best I ever had. Food was refined and delicious! Would come back any day especially for the roast chicken!

We’d just come from another bar that had really let us down, so we weren’t expecting much when we stumbled across this place — but wow, were we wrong. We popped in for happy hour drinks, and they were absolutely spot on. The owner made the best espresso martini I’ve ever had — and I’ve had a lot, all over Australia! She took orders, mixed cocktails, and served with a smile, effortlessly balancing warmth and professionalism. Despite a disappointing meal earlier in the evening, a few of us decided to try the food here — and we were blown away. The half chicken was juicy, flavourful, and generously portioned. The chips and kale chips were the perfect match. The chef even came out to serve some of our dishes personally, which was such a thoughtful touch. It’s clear this is a family-run spot with heart. The passion they have for food and hospitality really shines through. Don’t miss this place — it’s got a great vibe, incredible food, and some of the best service we’ve had anywhere. Absolutely loved it.

I went inside for the lunch special of a sandwich and a juice for $15. The sandwich in the picture looked promising but when it arrived to the table it felt like a joke. It was sandwich bread, no toasted, just a thin slice of pastrami and vegetables. I guess it was my bad for asking that. I was going to say something to the girl but she disappeared. I won't recommend this place for lunch. The decoration inside was really nice.
María M — Google review
The burger is a standout: thick, juicy, and flame-grilled with fresh lettuce, tomato, and a smoky house sauce. It’s satisfying and pairs perfectly with their chunky, golden chips. The fish and chips are classic—lightly battered cod that’s crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with tartar sauce and lemon. It’s not greasy, which is a big plus. Their roast chicken is surprisingly well-seasoned, slow-roasted with a crispy skin and juicy meat—especially the thigh portions. It comes with 2 choices of sauce. Nice drinks with different flavors. Worth to trying it.

Dinner at @korrjee in St Kilda after a comedy show at the nearby Palais Theatre. . 1/2 roast chicken: this is their signature dish, and they've done it very nicely. The chicken was juicy and full of flavours, and the skin was crispy. We also had the chicken jus for the sauce, which was yummy 🤤. Chips: perfectly done Crispy chicken wings: can't go wrong with this! Crispy kale: a bit too much salt and vinegar seasoning, but the kale was super super crispy Slaw

So impressed with this eatery. We ate spring rolls and my favourite entree the arancini, then for mains the roast chicken (half) with peri peri sauce - so tender and juicy! Tried the chicken Parma; unique with smoked chicken instead of ham and apricot cheese - delicious. we also had the prawn linguini - the size of the prawns and portions was impressive. Also highly recommend the Pina Kolada or peach margarita. Great service and cute little spot

NeNe Chicken has recently made its mark in Australia, particularly in bustling shopping centers like Melbourne Central and Highpoint. This vibrant chain brings the beloved South Korean fried chicken culture to life, with its name translating to "yes" in Korean—a nod to their enthusiastic approach. Diners rave about the crispy chicken strips that are always served hot and fresh. The menu offers a delightful variety of options, including boneless pieces and unique sides like vegetable snow chips and spiral potatoes.
We had a really great meal here! Everything was really hot and fresh. Of course the cheese snow is good but I liked the vegetable snow on the chips. We tried lots of different items, boneless pieces, vegetables snow chips, plain, cheese and mayo. We tried chicken skin, their spiral potatoes. They even supply cups so you can buy larger bottles of drinks to have when you eat in.

Ridiculously small portion!! Not worth the price! Very disappointed as a returning customer! Paid $26 for just 6 pieces of fried chicken with no sides. The portion used to be decent, but now it’s barely enough for one person. If prices increased due to costs, just say so—don’t silently shrink portions and hope customers won’t notice. At this price, I could get a full meal elsewhere. Won’t order again anymore!

It's what to be expected for a fast food place. It could have been quicker but they did have delivery drivers harassing them. I would definitely change the buns for the burgers as they just cracked apart Great quality of chicken.

The food here was completely unflavored—bland and oily with no seasoning or spice at all. I politely asked the staff if they could make it more flavorful, but the replacement was just as bad. No improvement, no care, and no apology. The staff seemed uninterested and dismissive the entire time. Definitely not worth the money, and I won’t be returning.

Waited for over half an hour for one burger, a small chips, and some boneless chicken. The staff were just standing around not doing anything, except eating fried chicken straight out of the fryer. There was also a strand of plastic wrap or something inside the burger. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

I had a really disappointing experience at Nene Chicken in Elizabeth. The food was awful—oily, soggy, and completely lacking in flavor. Definitely not worth the price. What made it even worse was the attitude of the staff. They were unfriendly, impatient, and acted like serving customers was a hassle. No basic manners, no willingness to help, and no professionalism. This is not what you expect when dining out. I won’t be coming back, and I don’t recommend this location to anyone.

Gami Chicken & Beer is a popular Korean fried chicken chain with over 20 locations in Melbourne and 23 across Victoria. They are known for their Korean-style chicken, which comes in bite-sized pieces coated in a variety of house-made sauces. Customers have enjoyed the boneless chicken with original, mustard, sweet chili, and spicy sauce options. The tteok-bokki is also recommended for its delicious spiciness and oozy melted cheese topping.
We dined here a few weeks ago and got their unmissable chicken platter, which had lots of different flavored chicken, we also ordered their bulgogi rice, and kimchi rice. It was good, and the portions were fair. The price was okay, and the place had a nice ambiance. The staff was friendly, and the food was served fast.

Extremely disappointing service. Staff didn’t come outside to offer menus or take our order, simply assuming we’d notice and use the QR code ourselves. No cutlery, water, or essentials were provided, we had to get them on our own. Even basic items like chopsticks weren’t available at the table and had to be requested at the counter. It felt more like a self-service setup than a restaurant. If we’re expected to do everything ourselves, what’s the point of dining out?
Dinith W — Google review
We read the menu, I chose something light and she chose a substantial dish the kimchi fried rice. Two good drinks a fresh lemonade with real lemon juice and a lychee drink. Importantly for us, this restaurant is halal. I went to the bar counter and placed my order. 10 minutes later I went back to ask what happened to our drinks. The girl whom I ordered from looked confused and asked me what I’d ordered. She found our order and said yes I’m making them saying it was so busy. Then I sat down again and my partner said that the waitress had given the other table their cutlery and I should ask her for some service. The waitress came over, looking angry at us and told us its self service and I should go there to help ourselves. So I hopped up went over to the cutlery station, and there were trays of knives forks and spoons you could hardly see because the multi level rack they’re on is not lit. There were no serviettes. I turned back to the bar and the girl there was serving another couple. I wanted but saw the serviettes on the counter and just pointed to them. As flustered as she was, she broke off taking her order and refilled the tray. Apologizing profusely. Later or food was delivered followed by our drinks. Her rice was spicy but bland tasting. My prawn dumplings were tasty but oily. The drinks were fresh and tasty. There were a number of family groups and couples but the restaurant certainly wasn’t full. I wouldn’t chase another visit to be honest, others there seemed to having a good time.

Came here at lunch time it was nice and quite which was great we ordered 2 different burgers and the spicy hot wings with side chips, portions small but tasty and fresh, grilled chicken burger is thigh chicken tasted juicy and the hot chips fresh but small portion, I think they just need to add gloves to the food as it gets quite messy. Came here without checking the reviews as it's the first time visiting this location the only thing which would be great would be if the burgers were a bit bigger 3 bites and the burgers disappeared

I got a delivery from this gami and i usually love eating their chicken from the other branches ive been to, especially the mustard sauce which is my favourite to get. However, the colour looked off— almost artificial looking and the radish tasted like its been open for 3 days. Idk.. it’s really disappointing because i genuinely don’t like giving bad reviews but if i paid 50 dollars for bland bimbimbap, off-tasting sauce and radish, that’s concerning.

My first time having Gami and I really went all out! Ordered a regular boneless chicken with sweet chilli sauce on the side, beef bulgogi bibimbap, tteokbokki, corn cheese, and lemon lime bitters. Chicken was super crunchy and well cooked, corn cheese was perfect, tteokbokki was sooo chewy but a bit on the sweet side, and the bibimbap was to die for. The team on tonight were super sweet and worked quickly to get orders out to tables and delivery drivers. The manager (?) was also lovely! 10/10 would come again

Korean restaurant
Fried chicken takeaway
Gami Chicken & Beer is a popular spot known for its Korean-style fried chicken and house beer. The restaurant takes pride in serving 100% RSPCA-approved chicken and has been in business for almost 15 years, with numerous locations across the country. Their Korean-style chicken is fried twice to maintain a crispy texture even after being tossed in various flavorful marinades such as sweet chili, soy garlic, and chili.
We had the best chicken ever there also the fried rice was really delicious. The lady who served us ( unfortunately I don’t the name ) was really kind and friendly. Perfect food and customer service !

Regular boneless fried chicken was good portion size but chicken pieces were too big and didn't like the skin & tendon bits. Tteokbokki was good. Service was prompt and food was packed well. Seems to be a popular place in Koreatown. It has both indoor and outdoor seating.

First encountered Gami chicken in Perth in 2017. Buldak chicken - new addition. Good amount of spice and sweetness. Tender meat cuts/thighs Soy garlic w honey- not as nice as what it used to be. Less umami/ depth to the flavour. Tasted mild/ flat Coleslaw was pretty standard Kimchi pancake had little filling, slightly overcooked Army stew was also average. Standard ingredients were there, but soup lacked enough golchujang. Still palatable and nice but can’t compare to authentic Korean ones A pleasant experience but standards in the staple/ previously popular soy garlic had fallen short over the years Will come back for the buldak chicken

Gami is the staple chain that comes to mind when I think of Korean Fried Chicken in Melbourne. It’s pretty standard but consistent — a good benchmark for a shared chain recipe. The chicken is usually juicy with a solid chicken-to-batter ratio, and the sauces are decent (though the garlic soy leans too sweet for my liking). Portions are generous enough and you know what you’re getting every time. It’s not something I’d keep coming back for, but if you want reliable, chain-level KFC that hits the same each visit, Gami is it. ⭐️ 3.5/5

Gami is always my go-to for a comforting Korean feast! We shared the Gami Platter (super worth it for the portion!) and the Seoul Tteokbokki, which felt like a full-on comfort meal. Love the casual vibe, generous servings, and how affordable it is — honestly one of the best spots in Melbourne’s Korean street for a satisfying dinner with friends!

Staff were very friendly. Food was amazing with big portions. Atmosphere was nice as well. Can remember the name of the hot pot, but it was to die for. And ofc their fried chicken was 👏🏼💪🏽 The gami chips is one of the best chips we ever tasted

Tried the gami chicken here and it was absolutely fantastic! Beautifully cooked — tender, juicy, and full of deep, savoury flavour you just don’t get with regular chicken. The skin was perfectly crisp, and the seasoning brought out the richness of the meat without overpowering it. You can tell they know how to treat quality ingredients with respect. Would definitely come back just for this dish alone!

Just had this fried chicken from my friend's workplace and it was amazing The coating was super crispy and flavorful, and the chicken inside was juicy and tender. What really stood out was the honey mustard dipping sauce - creamy, tangy n the perfect balance of sweet and sharp. Paired with the chicken, it was absolutely addictive. Highly recommend !! 🤤

Henrietta Windsor, a popular Sydney eatery, has opened its first interstate venue on Chapel Street in Melbourne. The restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat option for their finger-lickin' good Lebanese charcoal chicken along with a variety of sides and dishes like spiced cauliflower with cashew tarator and pomegranate fattoush salad. Visitors have praised the moist and flavorful chicken breast as well as the attentive service and vibrant atmosphere.
🫓🍗 best hummus ever ✨ 🏠: @henrietta.chicken 📍: Chapel St, Windsor 📝: Just had an incredible meal at Henrietta Chicken in Windsor! From the moment I walked in, the cozy vibes and aroma of freshly grilled chicken set the perfect tone. Their hummus was truly extraordinary—smooth, flavourful, and hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. Every dip was packed with rich, savoury goodness, leaving me craving more with each bite. 😍 ❤️: Of course, their signature chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy, paired with vibrant sides that made the meal complete. If you’re looking for a spot that nails both taste and ambiance, Henrietta Chicken is a must-visit! 🍗✨

Myself and my partner had the best experience tonight! From the food, atmosphere and the most loveliest staff. It was a beautiful experience. Food was delicious and our server Sanarah was so welcoming and helpful. Xavier was such a vibe and could talk to him for hours. We will be back again!

Such a fantastic dining experience here! The staff were so lovely, welcoming, professional and friendly. The food was exquisite and could not fault anything. Can’t even pick my favourite dishes but maybe the prawns and brussel sprouts 👌 the atmosphere and decor were also stunning. The staff made such a point of making me feel special for my birthday which was so kind. Already so excited to come back here!! Thank you so much to the team at Henrietta :))

Uber eats: ordered the chicken bowl literally had one tablespoon of chicken in it. Chips were $11 and also just a handful. Bread was $7 and was a packet of A1 bakery bread. Plus food was absolutely stone cold when it arrived. Either this place has changed hands or something because in the last few weeks it's absolutely gone downhill. Won't be ordering from here ever again.

Been wanting to check this place out for a bit now, and so glad I finally did! Rated every dish, with great wine and service. The king prawns special was an absolute standout but everything from the falafel to the octopus and chicken was great too. Loved the vibe too, the decor was really nice. Would definitely return here again!

The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening out. We ordered 2 small plates, 1 main, and 2 sides, which turned out to be the perfect amount of food. Each dish was bursting with flavour, but the eggplant dish (Eggplant, tahini yoghurt, pita, almonds) was an absolute standout – it's a must-try! The staff were friendly, in particular Kash who demonstrated a genuine eagerness to ensure that every customer had an enjoyable experience, overall vibe of the place made it a memorable evening. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food and a lovely dining experience in Melbourne!

If you want to come here thinking you will get a traditional Lebanese feast you will be disappointed. Instead if you are open minded you will get a fresh take on Lebanese inspired dishes delicately prepared and plated. As a Lebanese person I thoroughly enjoyed this fresh approach and was delighted. Service was warm friendly and professional. The really nice Italian lady serve us. Sorry I didn't catch your name. Atmosphere and decor was modern clean and warm. Perfection

We recently visited this restaurant for a girls' night out, and it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The cuisine, a delightful exploration of Mediterranean flavors, was outstanding. We opted for the feast, which included four starters, four mains, and one dessert, and the amount of food was generous. We began with homemade pita and creamy hummus topped with fried cashews, which was beautifully prepared. The sumac-cured ocean trout served with lettuce was exquisite, followed by fried eggplant with tahini, almonds, and chickpeas—easily one of the best starters I've ever tasted. The fried chicken with Harissa, while good, didn't quite stand out compared to the exceptional eggplant. For the mains, the highlight was the lamb, which was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, accompanied by rice, lentils, and smoked labneh. The charcoal chicken, unfortunately, was not as impressive. The cauliflower with sultanas and the refreshing salad were both delightful additions. We finished with the boubshka dessert paired with jersey milk ice cream, which was fresh and creamy—a perfect ending to a memorable meal. This restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy authentic and flavorful Mediterranean cuisine. Highly recommended!

Chicken shop
Fast food restaurant
Preston Chicken Shack is a hidden gem located near the Preston South Shopping Centre. Run by the friendly owners Cathy and William, this family-owned chicken shop is a local favorite. The portions of chicken are generous, with flavorful charred skin and an abundance of herbs and salt. Customers rave about the ample servings of chips and potato cakes fried in fresh oil. The pasta salad is described as delicious and refreshing, while the warm scallop salad offers just the right amount of creaminess.
REVIEW 2024: I came back for their charcoal chicken and chips a year later. 🍟➕ It was a pleasant surprise to see HOW GENEROUS they are with their chips! They literally give you a big bag and there's plenty to take home. The chips are fried in fresh oil (you can taste how crispy and new they are). What a steal. What partner loves this place. 🥗 In terms of salad, I went for their pasta salad (delicious and refreshing) while the scallops salads was served warm. It was the perfect amount of creaminess. I would avoid the Greek salad still. 🙅‍♀️ Highly recommend Preston Chicken Shack (updated 4 stars to 5 stars!). ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ----------------------------------- ORDERED 2023: 🍗  1/2 Chicken Charcoal Pack: chicken, chips & choice of 2 salads ($17.90) 🥣  Medium Gravy ($3.50) REVIEW: Generous delicious portions. The chicken has one of the crispiest skins I've EVER had on charcoal chicken, and chips that are so plentiful and salty that it was fantastic. It was somehow crispy, but had a fluffiness in the centre. Absolutely freshly fried. The stuffing in the chicken was also delicious. Highly recommend their Chicken and Chips! Would avoid the salad. It's cut too thick and the flavours aren't there. The Greek salad has all the ingredients, but no tanginess or pepperiness that's iconic of a greek salad. The Coleslaw lettuce is sliced too large, which makes it quite average to eat. Considering there's a Woolies next door, you should get salad from there instead. The gravy was a bit too gloopy for me as well, but it's great in adding moisture. Service was great. Truly local owned, friendly Asian lady at the counter. We wanted to dine in, but with the abundance of birds around there was bird poop on the table. She offered to send her employee to clean it, so we could still dine in! We also wanted to go for a large gravy ($1 difference) but she recommended against it. Thank goodness for the advice. Although it's a $1 difference, the size is almost DOUBLED. Overall, fantastic service.

Damn, this chicken shop never disappoints. We originally ordered everything separately, but the owner recommended that we go for the family set because it was cheaper and had more food! The portions are huge and we got 3 salads instead of 2 because the owner was so kind. The chicken was amazing, salads were perfectly seasoned. Chips were delicious and plentiful. Will definitely go back again. This place definitely isn’t made for dine-in, but for takeaway, it is amazing.
Sophia J — Google review
The owner who was there along with the other workers take sincere care and pride in their service. They offer extremely generous servings - definitely value for money which makes me sure i will be coming back here again.
Stefany — Google review
This shop is a family owned shop, I always see the same Asian lady at the counter serving people working with her husband, I don’t think they have taken a day off in years because I use to go to school down the street, I’ve done back over 3 years later and it’s still the same couple working, very hard working and honest. They have some of the best and most fairly priced charcoal chicken I’ve come across in Melbourne, there’s a reason they are on many lists of the top charcoal chicken in Melbourne. This isn’t a place to go if you’re looking for a fancy dinner date, this is a place you go to get good quality food for a cheap price, and an overload on chips- there’s never been a place where they put as many chips as they do here in Melbourne. Amazing place, highly recommend.

As you stroll past an array of cafes and shops, this unpretentious eatery stands out with its enticing aroma wafting from two rotisseries where succulent lamb and free-range Lilydale chicken are expertly cooked over glowing coals.
What a fantastic local gem this place is and to think I came across it by accident! The lamb gyros is better than any in Oakleigh and has me coming back already! Customer service is second to none and I can't wait to try the roast chickens as they look amazing! It's also incredible value for the quality and quantity. I can't recommend highly enough - just get down there!!!

I was here a few years ago and decided to try the food again, only to realise that the original Greek owners have sold the business. It is a shadow of what it used to be. First of all all, the floor was very dirty and sticky and you had to ring the bell for service otherwise there was no one in front of the house. We ordered the HSP lamb box and small chicken pack and fries. Prices are very significantly up, but to be fair it is reasonably large quantity of food. While the chicken and lamb was good, we noticed how everything was refried with a lot of oil- see pictures. This is not how Greek food should be. Unfortunately we will never ever be back. The owner was polite and friendly though. Note that I still had the wait around for 10-15 minutes before getting my food. Lots of much better Greek joints around, so save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

I think new owners? Was a couple years since last went. Anyway, -Chicken not so good. 2.5 out of 5. rubbery and stiff -Chips a 0 out of 5(how you would serve that?). - Gyros was good actually. Lamb :-) Was driving past so stopped rather than usual place in Huntingdale. Family of 5 and we threw chips out and hardy anyone touched the chicken. NEVER EVER go again ..sorry! It was unacceptable. Price good.

Great place. Ate the souvlaki here twice now. Best value for money. Portions are extremely generous. Meat is always fresh and tasty. Can be a bit oily. The flavour of the sauces could be improved a bit. Chips are nice and salty.

Best charcoal chicken!! I can understand why this place is rated best charcoal chicken in Melbourne. It absolutely blew my mind. I couldn’t wait until I got home I started eating it in the car as the photo shows 😁 The flavour of the chicken was delicious! The smoky flavour shone through and really gave it some depth. I don’t know what seasoning they put on the chicken while it’s cooking but it was incredible 🤤 the potato bake is absolutely also worth a mention. Potato cooked to perfection, soft, cheesy and downright delicious. Already planning when to go back!

"Best Charcoal Meat in Melbourne" I've been eating here on the regular and can hands down say this is the best Charcoal chicken and souvla around. Made proper Greek style by a pro in the industry. These guys make everything in house and its fresh daily. Easy to find parking. Prices are very reasonable. You can order online via food delivery services. Staff work their guts out with the hot Charcoal on their backs and are still the most friendly blokes around. Loyal customer until the end!!

Went in to buy a whole chicken for dinner. The shop was nice and clean and chicken and meat were nicely cooking over the charcoals. Order was processed quickly and chicken cut into pieces. All done in 10 minutes. The chicken was yummy and nicely done. The dark meat were juicy and the chicken breast meat was not dry.

Izakaya restaurant

Liquor store
Nestled in the vibrant West Melbourne area, Benchwarmer is a delightful fusion of a beer hall, bottle shop, and izakaya that beckons craft beer enthusiasts. This colorful hangout boasts an impressive selection of hard-to-find brews from both local and international breweries. Whether you're sipping on a rare Firestone Walker Barrel-Aged Strong Ale or enjoying a refreshing yuzu-infused Edge rice lager, there's something for every palate.
Benchwarmer might sound like a backup, but this West Melbourne izakaya is playing in the big leagues. Every single snack was a knockout, crispy, salty, and packed with umami. From fried bites to smoky, charred goodness off the grill, everything was dialed in. Pair that with a stellar sake selection that’s smooth, fragrant, and dangerously easy to drink, and you’ve got a winning combo. The vibe? Relaxed, unpretentious, and effortlessly cool, the kind of spot that feels like a neighborhood gem but serves up food and drinks that could rival any high-end joint. Whether you’re here for a casual drink or a full-blown snacking marathon, Benchwarmer delivers. If you haven’t been yet, consider this your sign.

I brought my lady to Benchwarmer after seeing the awesome Bernie Deiter's Kabarett gig at Meat Market, and we were extremely impressed. I had been recommended Benchwarmer by one of the gents at Bracket Brewing in Sydney, and I'd booked a table for me and two mates visiting from NZ next week ahead of seeing The Red Clay Strays at Festival Hall, but wanted to check it out in advance to ensure it was the right pre-gig spot for us. Jackpot!! We had fantastic service, superb beer and drinks selection, cool vibe and the food was truly outstanding. There were a few menu items that were sold out in the early eve, but our lovely and helpful waiter Manato said it had been a very busy Saturday and he made some great alternative recommendations and suggestions. Manato was wonderful, attentive, friendly and made our evening all the more enjoyable. Can't wait to be back at Benchwarmer next Thurs arvo/eve and show off one of Melbourne's gems to my Kiwi visitors!

No surcharge by paying through QR as well 🤭🌟❤️ REVIEW: My favourites of the night were: 1. Shio Koji Pork Cheek. Incredibly moist, tender, and melt-in-your mouth. Packed with collagen. What an incredible peace of protein that really took on the gochujang glaze. It worked well with the wasabi verde and the squeeze of lemon on top! 🩷 2. Fillet o fish. Toasted milk bun, incredibly crispy rockling, creamy tartare and tangy pickles. A dreamy fish burger that's perfect to share with your bestie. 💛 Least favourite? Rolled rice noodles. 😔 It's incredibly savoury, a richness that comes from grandma's sauce. It was quite a chewy dish. If possible, potentially pan-frying the rolled rice noodles could give it some interesting texture! Service was incredibly friendly. They checked on us multiple times 👀, thoughtfully brought us a knife so we could split our burger, offered to turn on the heater to keep us warm and most importantly - KEPT THE FOOD COMING!!! 🥳 The atmosphere is relaxed, great music playing with bass and the back area can definitely hold groups (6 people comfortably). Even though we booked online and only street side was available, we were happy to be sitting in the decorated outdoor patio in the back. ✌️

I can’t believe this little craft beer bar has been hiding in plain sight! It might not be the kind of place you’d expect to find some of the most exciting and delicious food around—but that’s exactly what makes it so special. The newly revamped menu is phenomenal, with a new chef on board who designed dishes inspired by Japanese and Asian flavors that completely exceeded my expectations. Every bite was packed with bold, balanced flavors that felt both comforting and elevated. Pair that with a stellar craft beer selection, range of sake, highballs or (many) frozen margaritas, and impeccable service, = you have a winning combination. My favourite dishes: Kingfish tostada Chicken katsu Panko fish sliders !!!

Food was mostly good, however the special hand roll didn’t taste fresh. The service was quite slow - we didn’t get our cocktails until the main dish (had two rounds already). The a la carte menu felt too pricey - it only makes sense to get the set menu.

Hakata Gensuke Tonkotsu Ramen offers a unique Japanese dining experience with its flavorful signature pork bone broth and authentic ramen options. The restaurant takes pride in using high-quality fresh pork bones from reputable Australian suppliers, cooking the broth for three days to ensure rich flavor. The Melbourne CBD, Hawthorn, and Carlton locations provide an immersive Japanese atmosphere with traditional chanting staff and a tick-sheet ordering system for customizable noodles and toppings.
Great ramen shop that has been servicing the CBD patron for years. Great executed and made broth. Creamy, full of flavour and umami soup topped with nicely textured ramen noodles cooked to your preference and soft cha su. Quality is consistent and has stand the test of time. Price is on the higher side but reflected very much on the food quality. Will definitely fill the ramen craving that you have and will make you to come back for more.

Hakata Gensuke Tonkotsu Ramen, located on Russell Street, is a cozy and vibrant Japanese restaurant best known for its rich, creamy tonkotsu pork broth and handcrafted ramen noodles, made with a secret recipe straight from Hakata, Japan. Though it’s a small place, it’s efficiently organized with counter-side seating and compact tables. One of the unique highlights is how the staff periodically chant in unison from the kitchen — a beautiful display of their lively culture that adds to the authentic experience. The restaurant operates on a walk-in only basis, and it's common to see a queue outside — but trust me, it’s worth every second of the wait. As Indian food lovers craving spice, we opted for the God Fire and Black Fire Ramen — both flavorful, spicy, and deeply satisfying. (You can even customize the spice level!) The combination of piping hot broth, perfectly cooked ramen noodles, tender pork slices, and flavorful condiments made for an unforgettable meal. We also tried the pork-filled Gyoza, which paired wonderfully with their citrus soy dipping sauce (almost like a sushi soy dip). To accompany our meal, we went with canned green tea and orange juice — refreshing choices that balanced the spice well. The staff were incredibly polite and welcoming, even taking the time amidst in the busy environment to tell us more about their food and traditions when we showed interest. They truly made the experience feel special — and we even got a photo to remember the night! If you're in Melbourne and want to taste the best ramen in town, Hakata Gensuke is a must-visit. There are plenty of other tempting dishes on the menu too, so we’re definitely going back! PS: They are predominantly a pork-based on their menu.
Greesma — Google review
I visited Hakata Gensuke Tonkotsu Ramen and had a really great experience. We were served by Aoba, who was incredibly sweet and welcoming — he greeted us with a big smile. His warm service really stood out and set the tone for the meal. For the food, we ordered two different ramen dishes: the Black Tonkotsu and the Godfire Plus. At first glance, the Black Tonkotsu doesn’t look very appetizing because of its dark, almost black broth, but it was absolutely delicious. The broth was packed with flavor, very rich and garlicky, so I’d recommend it especially for garlic lovers. The bowl came with two big slices of pork, which were great, though in hindsight I think adding extra meat would have made it even better. The Godfire Plus, on the other hand, had a vibrant red broth and brought the spice. It was bold, flavorful, and had just the right kick without overpowering the taste. Both bowls were satisfying in their own ways, and I’d happily recommend trying them depending on your flavor preference. Overall, between Aoba’s excellent service and the delicious ramen, Hakata Gensuke is definitely worth a visit.

I got the basic pork noodles, with sliced meat. Food was simple, will recommend selecting “less salty” given the normal saltiness was unbalanced. The noodles were fresh, perfect texture, with just a little chew. Recommended for a simple meal

This place has great ramen! I tried the black ramen the upgraded version and it’s a good amount of pork if you want more, taste delicious! My friends tried the spicy tonkotsu levels 2 and it’s so hot! 🥵 just for peopl with high tolerance to spicy 🌶️, the chicken balls are a great option!
John G — Google review
This was one of the first ramen I ever had. Returning many years, and hundreds of bowls later, this review pains me. Perhaps it’s nostalgia, but I find it hard to describe this as anything other than dull. Not bad. Just dull. It is smooth, well seasoned, and served with generous pork portions, but it’s not interesting. The black garlic is extremely subtle, and the toppings do nothing other than add a little texture. The ramen game has evolved and I’m just not sure where this fits in. Maybe it’s the bowl you could eat 3 times a week, but it’s not the bowl I would crave, line up for, or go out of my way to find.

Had the classic Tonkotsu Ramen at Hakata Genshuku and it really reminded me of the bowls I had in Fukuoka — rich, deep pork bone flavor in the broth and noodles cooked to that perfect firm texture I love. The only downside was that the chashu felt a bit cold and had a slight odor, but aside from that, the balance of flavors was excellent. Definitely a place I’d like to come back to and try again.
Jea A — Google review
You must try the signature tsukemen, for me it's the best menu here. The texture of the tsukemen noodle is perfect, chewy but not hard. The dipping soup, tasty. The pork, oh man, very tender and juicy. If you like spicy ramen, they have the fire god ramen, they have spicy level and even level 1 is hot enough. This place is alway busy, especially during dinner time, please bring your patience with you because for sure you have to wait...

Izakaya Den is a trendy basement venue in Melbourne, specializing in Japanese izakaya-style tapas and drinks. The moody atmosphere and stylish decor create an inviting setting for patrons to enjoy a variety of dishes, from familiar favorites like tuna tataki and fried school prawns to more unique offerings such as battered sweet-corn cakes and grilled ox tongue. The open kitchen and bar provide entertainment as chefs and mixologists showcase their skills.
October 2023. Located down a set of stairs, this restaurant is easy to miss for a first-time visitor. Thanks for the sandwich board signage. My partner and I dined here on a Saturday night. The service was friendly, and we were seated at the bar. To make this easy, we ordered a carnivore and a separate vegetarian dinner set. We tried a range of small dishes, and they all tasted great. The presentation of each dish was excellent. And each dish explained to us. There was just enough food, and the beer was good. My partner had a yuzu cocktail, which was nice, too. Great for a special night out.

The staff were so lovely and the food was fantastic. By far the standout for me was the dessert, the best Panna Cotta I've ever had. We also had the set menu and every dish was beautiful (in appearance and taste). Definitely enough food, we left full and happy!

The super cute waiter said I didn't have a reservation. He asked me if I wanted a low table? Or a high table? I saw the biggest table inside, and he gave me the big table. Lucky 🍀The highlight is that every dish is really made with care and delicious.

End of an era but thanks for the memories! Always loved coming here for their tartare, den chicken, corn and nice to try their newer items. Lychee cocktail was my absolute favourite and the cod with butter was so tasty. Good luck to the team on their next adventure

Would give 6 star to their service if I can. I start dining at this place since 2012. Their menu changes over time but the good taste never changes. Recommend dishes (must order!!!) for current menu - beef cheek 🥳 Plus, their bartender is very talent, feel free to challenge him 😝 I asked for “surprise me” and he serve more than a “surprise” 😌 Truely made my night out.

A friend treated me to dinner here. Hidden away, I never would have found it, which makes it so exciting. I was like, where are we going?! The atmosphere was perfect, and the service was beyond amazing. We got the person in charge to choose our meals for the night, and every one of them are something I wouldn't have chosen personally by reading what it's called, but after tasting them I was blown away. I hate mushrooms, the first thing I had was some mushroom dish, and it was my favourite. It was the best damn thing I've ever had. Everything I ate that night was amazing.

Love this place and vibe! We ordered a tuna tataki, it’s ok. Oolong tea+peach+tea, it’s taste like water, don’t recommend. However, chicken wing and slow cooked beef cheek is the highlight! Chicken wing is so crunchy outside and soft&hot inside, love it!!! Slow cooked beef probably is the best texture of beef I have ever tried, the meat just melted in my mouth. It is highly recommended. At last, dessert, combination of mandarin and tea ice cream is just taste so good together! I would def come back if they have more various of food!😍⭐️

Alimentari Smith Street is a larger version of the Brunswick Street Alimentari, offering an authentic Italian deli experience. The dining room is inviting, making it easy to get sidetracked and sit down for a delicious breakfast. The atmosphere is charming with a leafy feel and a cute courtyard area in the back, complete with an open fireplace. The lunch options are varied and healthy, featuring tasty salads and nicely roasted porchetta.
Absolutely loved our lunch here The focaccia was incredible, the salad selection was fresh and flavourful (highly recommend the roasted cauliflower), and the rear courtyard was such a hidden gem – bright, cosy, and full of charm. Great spot for a relaxed meal with friends!

A brilliant cafe located in the heart of the trendy Smith St. The whole atmosphere is great with an art style deco creating a unique feel. Food is yummy and beautifully presented with the service team friendly and keeping on their feet! It’s a true local experience and worth the visit. Price wise it pretty normal for the brunch scene! Enjoy

This is my second visit- tried their mushroom risotto and pearl barely salad last time. Just LOVED their salad, so unique so fresh. Had a “magic salad” today that the server recommended me, she’s so friendly even during busy hours.

Such a beautiful lunch at Alimentari Collingwood! 💛 The mushroom risotto was creamy, rich, and packed with earthy flavour – total comfort food done right. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender, sitting on a dreamy mash with the perfect hit of sweetness from the jus. And that slaw on top? Crunchy, herby magic. Loved the warm, rustic vibe of the place too – exposed brick, friendly service, and that classic Alimentari charm. Perfect little spot for a cosy meal that feels a bit fancy but super comforting. Will definitely be coming back!

They (and also we) ATE and left no crumbs! We are from Perth, and have been to this establishment 3 seperate times in 2 trips. The food has not disappointed. The staff and ambience of the restaurant was also cosy and lovely. Highly recommend the porchetta, lamb cutlets, arancini and kale salad if you’re going for lunch but there are many fantastic options! For breakfast we were just meant to duck in and have a quick bite from the cabinet however, the Turkish eggs looked so good so we decided to order that (pictured). The sausage tasted beautiful and smokey and went really well with the labneh, eggs and toast (pictured). We couldn’t recommend Alimentari more.

What a delightful place to stop for a moments refreshment. Great Salads - usually what I go for - fresh and great combinations Coffee and cake was had this time and I was not disappointed Inside is just gorgeous so take the time to sit and enjoy the pleasant decor, fireplace, cosy seating and helpful service

Food was average Tuna tartare 7/10 Broccoli salad 7/10 Squid ink pasta 7.5/10 Service was mid. Took a good 5 mins for anyone to acknowledge me at the door and bring me in, despite many of the restaurant staff walking back and forth past me. We asked for a drinks menu and it didn’t come out for a very long time and some of our food was missing. The only thing I liked about this restaurant was the aesthetics.

My first visit to Alimentari Smith Street—and definitely not my last! I ordered the salmon dish from their specials list, and it was cooked to perfection—flaky, tender, and bursting with flavour. Absolutely delicious. The house made focaccia was outstanding, as were the olives with lemon, wild fennel, and bay leaf. Every bite felt like a celebration of fresh, high-quality ingredients and classic Italian flavours. The table service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I especially loved the courtyard space, which is both sunny and peaceful. The entire venue has been designed with such intention and warmth—it's clear that every detail has been carefully considered. A truly delightful experience with fantastic Italian food offerings in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended!

Daughter In Law is a vibrant and stylish kitchen that redefines Indian cuisine with a contemporary twist. Nestled in Melbourne, this colorful eatery offers an exciting menu featuring signature curries and freshly baked naans, available for takeaway or as part of curated heat-at-home banquets. The atmosphere is electric, adorned with disco lights and retro Bollywood films that set the stage for a unique dining experience.
Enjoyed a family meal here on Saturday night for my daughter’s 18th… loved it! The service was so good. Great atmosphere. Awesome place - colour feast! And the food was delicious. Could not fault it. The owner was so attentive and couldn’t do more for us… it helped that he is also a McLaren lover and F1 fan… so we had lots to chat about 😆 Would definitely come again!

Finally managed to get to eat here as sadly the last time we booked we had to cancel so have been eager to rebook. The atmosphere hits you as soon as you step in and is incredibly welcoming and all encompassing. The decor is truly out of this world. We went for the Feed Me Menu and it was outstanding. Dish after dish that were just sublime in both taste and presentation. The flavours were amazing, with just the right level of heat to make your tongue tingle, but not too much to ruin your ability to taste everything. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and welcoming and we couldn't have asked for a better evening. We had food left over which we took with us and had a very enjoyable lunch with it the following day. Will be recommending the restaurant to anyone and everyone who listens, and will definitely be coming back again on numerous occasions.

A fun night out with flavour and value! We had such a great time at this restaurant! We went with the "Feed Me" menu and it did not disappoint — every dish was packed with flavour, beautifully presented, and kept coming at just the right pace. It felt like a mini food adventure, and you could really tell everything was made with care. Great value for money too — generous portions, quality ingredients, and a really satisfying overall experience. Highly recommend.

Finally manage to tick this place off my foodie checklist. Daughter in law is known as the unauthentic Indian restaurant which reflects the patrons that dine there. You’ll hardly find Indians dining there and my personal opinion is due to the fact the dishes aren’t spicy. In saying that the dishes are delicious, due to the large number in the group we had to go with the set menu. The cons with dining on the set menu they were very rigid in not swapping out any of the dish on the list which most places I’ve been to have allowed me to do. Also music was too loud to be able to have meaningful conversations. We were also surprised by a 15 min belly dance performance. If you are planning to go please make reservation as the restaurant gets fully booked out.
Shaz S — Google review
What a delicious food we had at the Daugher in Law tonight! Lamb curry is just perfect and not too spicy - meat tender and samosa chaat is the best I have ever had in my life! The green sauce on samosa chaat is very special - I can't describe it, gotta taste it! What a lovely belly dancer too! The sword act is a bit of the spectacle and she spins with it so so fast on her head. Decorations are an experience too- the whole joint is colourfully decorated- there is so much to look at. Stuff was friendly and efficient and we didn't wait too long for our food.
Doron M — Google review
The restaurant presents itself as an “unauthentic Indian” restaurant, and it lives up to that branding—offering a playful, modern twist on Indian street food in a lively setting. Ambience-wise, the restaurant evokes the energy of Indian dhabas, but the congested seating and high noise levels—especially near corporate groups—made conversation difficult and detracted from the overall experience. The pricing is on the higher end, likely due to its prime CBD location, which may not feel justified given the portion sizes and flavour inconsistencies. The wait times can change depending on the crowd. We had a reservation and still there was waiting time. The Papdi Chaat, unfortunately, fell short with missing flavours and lacked the tangy-spicy punch typical of the dish. In contrast, the Samosa Chaat was flavourful and satisfying. The IFC (Indian Fried Chicken) was a highlight—crispy, well-seasoned, and indulgent. The Spiced Lamb Keema Slider impressed with its rich, aromatic filling and generous portion, perfect for sharing. The Lamb Chops, however, didn’t deliver the depth of Indian spices expected. The Maharaja Punch was refreshing and well-balanced, offering a pleasant break from the heavier dishes. Overall, Daughter in Law is not the place for purists seeking authentic Indian cuisine, but it does offer a vibrant atmosphere and a few standout dishes. It’s best suited for those looking for a fun, fusion-style dining experience rather than a traditional one.
Parvathy S — Google review
We dined in at daughter in law for dinner. It was a good experience. We got the feed me menu, where the entrees were amazing, the tandoori prawn was an absolute show stopper. However the mains were lack lustre. For example the fish curry and the prawn curry was made in the same curry, this would be sacrilege in an Indian household where we take pride in showcasing an assortment of curries. Similarly I’m not sure about the red lighting, it’s a bit too much, ideally I’d like to see what I am eating rather than it all looking like a mosh pit of dishes covered in a red bubble. On the other hand service was warm and friendly and the ambience was amazing, felt like I was dining at my cousins wedding haha. Ps. You’ve a great thing going, please tweak the mains in the feed me menu to showcase the culinary landscape of Indian cuisine.
Shakun S — Google review
Our group were completely blown away, an honest feast for all the senses. We got the 'feed me' menu and our entire table were so impressed with all the courses. We all could stop smiling and taking in the beautiful, colourful space. Then the belly dancer came out which was the cherry on top of an already fabulously fun evening! 10/10 would recommend and will go again!

I have been coming here for the last 6 years and it is still my favourite burger place in Melbourne. The food is amazing, and the portions are very generous. The ambience is also pretty cool which makes it a complete culinary experience.

A nice experience in the restaurant with the actual truck decor and road signs. The booths were nice and comfy, high and private to be able to actually enjoy the food and company without being distracted by the other customers. Food was amazing and super filling. A burger alone is enough with out prdering chips on the side. Great place to enjoy a dinner with the family or friends.
Monique M — Google review
Pretty cool truck themed burger joint with different road signs displayed throughout the place. Menu is pretty extensive with over 10 burger options, a section dedicated to chickens, some sides and desserts. Ordered the following: - Saint Side Burger which had two thick beef patties, some fresh vegetables, cheese, and mick sauce which was some kind of mayo. Burger was huge but the patties were on the dry side; tasted alright but got flavour fatigue half way through - Popcorn chicken was decent with a nice crunchy coating - Onion rings were also nice and crunchy but a little too salty - Nutella waffles contained chocolate ice cream, whipped cream and strawberry slices sandwich between two waffles. Waffles barely have any crispiness on the outer layer, and the whipped cream just goes everywhere when trying to cut into bite size. Taste wise it was sweet and delicious after all the heavy salty food. Overall friendly staff and the serving size was huge even for the sides, but food was average at best.

Great for one of those, let’s not cook dinner nights. Friendly staff, quick and efficient service. Good burgers. Not really sure what we felt like for dinner, we went exploring the strip of restaurants in Werribee and happened upon this burger restaurant. Greeted with very friendly welcoming staff, we decided to eat in. Ordering was super easy, with a QR code and online ordering. The drink came out very quickly, and the food not long after that. I had the Fine and Dandy on a GF bun. The bun was a bit dry but gf is usually not amazing. The rest was yum. My partner had Bacon Bacon which he liked. Double nest, double cheese, double bacon. Also a side of waffle fries, just for fun.

Amazing place with super cool truck stop themed interiors. Totally give you the feel of being a truckee. The food, drinks and even dessert are so good. We tried: -cocktails - they were goooood - onion rings - they were crispy yet juicy - fried chicken - again crispy and super juicy - Kanye west-side burger : burger was just perfect. Perfectly layered, fresh in taste and scrumptious. - apple pie : was really really nice Overall had an amazing time. Check out more on Instagram @we.eat.travel.love

That restaurant really is the secret spot for food and burgers lovers. The cozy atmosphere, the very friendly staff and awesome ambiance makes it a first point. The burgers mates... Oh damn the burgers are simply, GORGEOUS ! Full of tastes, the buns are simply awesome and everything is fresh. The waffles fries are amongst the best I ever had ! Bit sad point is that, I ordered some more waffles and fried chicken to take out when I left at 3pm, the restaurant was closing at 9 and they already were out of chicken ! Very good. :)

Diner
Belles Hot Chicken Fitzroy is a retro-chic diner that serves up Southern U.S. style fried chicken and slaw, accompanied by music on vinyl. The restaurant has gained a reputation for its fiery chilli rub, with heat levels ranging from mild to extremely hot. Founded by two ex-fine-dining chefs with experience in Nashville, the menu offers four cuts of chicken and six spice levels, allowing guests to customize their hot wings.
I ordered southern fried chicken, mashed potato and gravy. This all time classic is one of the best I have ever had. The chicken was so tender without having its succulence being compromised. The mashed potato was smooth and buttery and the thickness of the gravy was just right. I could see many details in this dish. The atmosphere is lovely - classic American diner vibe - and the staff members are lovely. Would highly recommend for those coming to the area. Can’t wait to go there again!

Delicious burger and tenders. We had the "actually hot" tenders, and they were hot as advertised. The chips with the gravy and sauce were really delicious. Also, don't forget to try the mac n cheese bites they were tasty.
Henry D — Google review
Heard a lot of noise and hype for Belles hot chicken. The fried chicken itself was unfortunately underwhelming, there is no prominent flavours that makes it stand out. Borderline less flavour than your KFC fried chicken. The French fries were sadly the star of the show. Stop by if you’re in the area but not a place we would willingly go out of our way for.
Jack T — Google review
Great fried chicken ,sandwiches and sides. Nicely fitted out diner style. We will definitely be back to try some different options.

Belles Fitzroy… you won my heart (and my stomach). I went with the Supreme and wow—what a choice. The fries were next level: generously seasoned, perfectly hot, and irresistibly crispy. I couldn’t resist adding a side of mash with their “Good Gravy” (yes, that’s really what it’s called), and it absolutely lived up to the name. But what really made the experience was the service—our server was incredibly kind and helpful from start to finish. Cool vibe, great food, and amazing service… what more could you ask for? Belles has definitely earned a spot on my regular rotation. Highly recommend! :)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bell's Hot Chicken, and it was an unforgettable experience! This Yankee-style diner truly has vibes of plenty, making for a delightful atmosphere. The chicken burger was a standout—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. But the real star of the show for me was the crinkle cut chips. They were incredibly crispy, and the epic flavoring on top made them absolutely addictive. The spicy chicken and wings were also fantastic, with just the right amount of heat and mouthwatering taste. The service was lovely, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel right at home. To top it all off, the beers were wonderful, offering a great selection that perfectly complemented our meal. If you're looking for a place with great food, drinks, and atmosphere, Bell's Hot Chicken is a must-visit. Five stars all the way!
Timothy W — Google review
Upbeat atmosphere, tasty food, clean amenities. Try the Mac & Cheese balls and the Supreme Sandwich - can't go wrong. The Buffalo is also great, however, it may not be for people who don't like only slightly spicy, crispy fried chicken. I certainly enjoyed it, though. They clearly do a roaring trade on Uber Eats too. Walk-ins get a seat at the bar so if you have a table of four it is advised you book a fair bit in advance to get a seat. Thanks to all for a lovely meal again! Like Arnie said, "I'll be back!"
Andrew S — Google review
Wandering around the area, I came across this place for lunch. The place was clean and welcoming, American style. The staff is young and available to explain the menu and answer any questions. I found the food very spicy as there was a lot of paprika in the wings and tenders so I had a bit of trouble finishing the food, I suppose it's my subjective taste. All in all the meat was good, with an extra note the sandwich. In the end I recommend it if you like spicy food and a lot of paprika.

Samsam Chicken in Melbourne is a popular spot known for its delicious Korean-style chicken. The menu offers six different varieties of crispy chicken, along with traditional Korean Bibimbap and a selection of soju or Korean beer. Reviewers have praised the soy garlic flavored chicken and recommended pairing the Korean Fried Chicken with a bottle of soju for a great experience. The restaurant's stylish atmosphere adds to the overall appeal, although it may not be suitable for larger groups due to limited space.
Delicious Korean fried chicken! Love the flavour and crunchiness! We got the tebokki as well and it was very nice. We got the plain and garlic boneless chicken and it was plenty for two people. Enough to have some to take home as well. I enjoyed the side salad and wanted to order more, that cost an extra 2$. I enjoyed the sac sac drink which was 4.50$ I have been here a few times and the quality holds up! Would recommend for a fried chicken dinner.

The fried chicken here is delicious, flavorful, and has many flavors to choose from. The black bean noodles are also delicious. Although the price is a bit expensive, the portions are large, so go with 2 or 3 people to enjoy many dishes. The service is fast. The space is cozy, with many tables you can dine in anytime. This is a restaurant with many Korean dishes, so if you have a chance, you should stop by and try it.

SamSam Chicken in Melbourne is a hidden gem! The food was absolutely delicious, and the jjajang myum noodles was rich, flavourful, and definitely a must-try (my personal favourite). The portions are generous for the price, which makes it great value. On top of the amazing food, the atmosphere was really nice and welcoming. What made the experience even more unique was seeing their robot serve fried chicken such a fun and interesting touch that added to the vibe. Highly recommend if you’re after tasty food, with a great price

This Korean restaurant really brought the authentic flavors bold, spicy, and full of character. The fried chicken came in several unique flavors, all surprisingly delicious in their own way. What amazed me most was the robot frying the chicken, which made the whole experience even more fun and impressive.

A nice little restaurant that does some great Korean fried chicken as well as other dishes that are definitely worth a try. We went there for Korean Fried Chicken and liked the sweet chilli sauce that it was drowned in. Not too spicy that the kiddos couldn’t eat it but a nice hit of sweet & spice. The batter is almost cake like and comes across as a sweet while the chicken pieces are lovely, plump and juicy. The mozzarella sticks seemed like just a frozen variety that were put in the fryer. Would have loved to try their other dishes and plan to head back soon to check them out. The staff were very friendly, although they seemed to be working flat out. With a place like this it’s all about eating and leaving, no long lunches. Give it a try if you’re in Melbourne city. Good food and service at an affordable price.

The place was noisy and the places to sit are very close to each other so it doesn't really reflect much intimacy when you go out with friends - but it's still a good place. Chicken fresh and good, even though if you put sauces on it you can make it more expensive. Japchae was really delicious and a hit between my friends, who didn't try Korean food before. I recommend it!

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is a Taiwanese import known for its oversized, two-handed chicken fillets. These 250gm breast fillets are flattened into thin, schnitzel-like steaks and coated in a special tapioca flour batter that stays crispy while locking in moisture. Customers can choose from flavors like Chicken Salt or sweet plum, with the option to add extra kick with chili or cajun seasoning.
I had the pleasure of enjoying this delicious fried chicken a few years ago in Taiwan and it truly impressed me. The price was quite reasonable, making it a great value. The Kumara chips were a delightful bonus—sweet and salty, perfectly complementing the meal. Plus, the fried chicken was wonderfully large with a wonderfully crispy skin. You’ll definitely want to try this.

Hot Star Chicken on Swanston Street is a go-to for satisfying that late-night fried chicken craving. The XXL chicken is perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside — exactly what you’d hope for from Taiwanese-style street food. The spice levels are customisable, which is great, and the portions are huge for the price. Service is usually quick, though it can get busy during peak hours. Seating is limited, so it’s more of a grab-and-go place. Would love to see a few more side options or drinks to round out the meal. Overall, consistently tasty and reliably satisfying — definitely worth a visit if you’re in the city and craving something indulgent!
Leon B — Google review
Besides having to wait a lifetime for food it was pretty good and juicy. Flavours were there, chips were a bit light on the seasoning but everything else was decent. Could see they looked a bit understaffed when I went which explains the wait time.

Home of the oversize chicken! Not wrong there! It is a meal on its own, will definitely fill you up especially if you opt for the sweet potato with Cajun seasoning and coke! More like a dinner meal if you have a small appetite just get the chicken on its own. Packs heaps of flavour but by the time you move onto the chips, the taste buds will start to get thirsty, abit on the salty side. Otherwise a good snack on the go!

Service is fast and cooking is complely visible to customers so we know it's not unhygienic or nasty like hidden kitchens in such shops tend to be. Friend chicken is decent, nothing special. If you have a craving, it's great. Sweet seaweed flavour of the fries is a great complement to spicy fries chicken.

A Saturday staple for my family, the food is delicious, consistent and the portion sizes are incredibly generous. I got the smashed avocado this time which was fresh and uniquely paired with beetroot hummus and chilli (not spicy) and I will definitely get this dish again! We also had the same waitress who is very patient and friendly!!

Have been there before and had a nice coffee. Came this time and had a hedgehog slice ( which was delicious) but half way through had a massive black hair in it ! So beware. I probably wouldn’t have wrote a review about it if it wasn’t for the fact the man was so rude about it, no apology no comment about not paying, not even a goodbye when I left haha strange man I would stick to the coffee

Lagoon Dining offers a stylish dining experience with contemporary Chinese-fusion small plates and a selection of wines. The restaurant is known for its award-worthy dishes such as the hot and sour shredded potato, juicy-sweet char siu pork, salted fish fried rice, and sticky lamb ribs. Located in Melbourne's Little Italy, the modern pan-Asian diner features a chic ambiance with white-washed walls and a black granite bar.
Perhaps one of the top 10 meals ever. An incredibly well put together feed me set menu. Every dish a standout. Flavours exploding everywhere but pairings for each stage so well thought out. Seriously impressive. 500ml Riesling Chardonnay 50:50 blend also fascinating and the whole thing unbelievably good value.

A really interesting mix of flavors—balanced, creative, and full of surprises without trying too hard. The food looks simple, but every bite packs a complex and satisfying punch. Service wasn’t the best, but the dessert totally stole the show! Also, we couldn’t help but notice the menu was loaded with tofu dishes—maybe it’s tofu season? Either way, it was a fun and tasty experience!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Melbourne. The food is exceptional. The service is outstanding and warm. It's a pretty small restaurant with a menu of only hits. Their beef tartare is my favorite version I've had anywhere. The wine list is small, and changes regularly. They do a great job curating the list and I'm always pleased.

I had a great experience at Lagoon Dining in Carlton. The staff were fantastic, attentive and knowledgeable, making the evening even more enjoyable. I opted for the $78 set menu, which was well worth it. The portions were generous and everything was served at a good pace. Standout dishes for me were the char siu and the steak tartare - both were exceptional in flavor and presentation. I also appreciated that each course was accompanied by a fresh greens dish, perfectly complementing the meats. The only downside was the outdoor seating. While comfortable, it doesn't have the same charm as the indoor space, which is more visually appealing. Overall, a great dining experience with a solid menu and excellent service. Would definitely recommend!

Did a mid week chef's menu here and it exceeded expectations! Food was delicious and inventive. I think it's easy to go overboard on a tasting menu but the amount was perfect and excellent value. Nice wine selection. Enjoyed the vibe of the place. Will be back.

Great food, rude staff. This would have been the third time visiting this restaurant. Food had always been great. This is however the most memorable visit. We dined in as a group of 6. The service we received weren't great. The worst was when the man that served us responded unprofessionally back to us on how we haven't been waiting as long as we were for food. I'm definitely going to consider very carefully if I would want to come back again as I prefer to have a nice meal with nice staff. This incident has definitely dampen the night for the group.

This place is a must-visit in Melbourne. The design and architecture are clean and inviting, encouraging you to enjoy every moment. The food is incredibly fresh and expertly curated by the chef. We highly recommend trying the raw beef

ORDERED: 🥒 Salted cucumber, black fungus, toasted sesame, preserved olive vegetable ($11.00) 🥔 Hot & sour shredded potato, chinkiang vinegar, pickled enoki ($12.00) 🥓 Raw beef, sambal vinaigrette, laksa leaf, creme fraiche, tsubu arare ($27.00) 👅 Ox tongue crepe, jalapeno sambal, cream cheese ($21.00) 🍚 Salted fish fried rice, morning glory, scud chilli, fried anchovies ($30.00) 🥩 Charcoal roasted char siu, spring onion relish, tare ($44.00) 🍵 Jasmine pearls green tea ($5.00) It was $78.43pp here! REVIEW: Bless an establishment that doesn't charge card surcharges! 🙏 ❤ Our favourite dish at Lagoon Dining was their raw beef from the entrees. A perfect medley of textures (crunchiness from the tsubu arare, softness from the raw beef) and flavours (tanginess from the sambal vinaigrette, creaminess from the creme fraiche) that worked HARD to deliver a dish that was interesting, unique and light on the palate. We'd get two of these next time. 🤞 💛 We also appreciated how the Salted fish fried rice, a staple at Vietnamese restaurants, wasn't overly salty. It still imparted the necessary flavours, but also allowed us to enjoy the sweetness of the charcoal roasted char siu. 🧡 Service was outstanding. We happened to meet one of the owners, who passionately explained the menu and gave some context behind the dishes that couldn't leave the menu, as well as his favourites (all). 🤣 With dishes well timed one after the other, we were continuously being introduced to our next item but at a pace that didn't drop even as the restaurant was filled up. 💚 They were also lovely enough to keep re-filling the tea, so definitely got more than $5 worth. Lagoon Dining is a modern Asian establishment that's worth visiting to treat yourself right. Definitely recommended if you want to have a great night! ✨

Fried chicken takeaway
Korean restaurant
Gami Chicken & Beer is a popular spot in Melbourne known for serving some of the best Korean fried chicken in the city. The restaurant offers a variety of options, including the Big Chicken meal which includes a mix of chicken, rice cakes, chips, and cheese sticks with four different sauces. Customers praise the seasoned and crispy chips, decadent chicken, and flavorful Japchae dish. The soy garlic boneless chicken is described as tender, juicy, and full of flavor.
Our family are regulars at Gami Fountain Gate, and it never disappoints! They’ve recently introduced new items to the menu absolutely delicious and full of flavor. While the entire menu is impressive, the standout is undoubtedly their signature fried chicken: crispy, perfectly seasoned, and always cooked to perfection. We love the variety of sauces, and the sides pair beautifully with every meal. The staff are consistently friendly and efficient, even during busy times. Whether dining in or taking away, the quality is always top-notch. Highly recommended
SYED A — Google review
Great chicken but awful service! Would not recommend. Staff members are very aggressive and unhappy to do their jobs. Had one particular female come up and say “Can I take the menus?” in a hostile tone that didn’t even sound like SHE wanted to take the menus in the first place! Don’t ask if you don’t even want to do it. Although it’s evident they have a back room, about 5-6 staff sat a table right next to mine for their staff meals. There, they chewed with their mouths open, laughed extremely loud, and made an overall ruckus - all whilst sitting right next to customers and wearing the uniform of Gami. Whilst I respect that the people who work in hospitality need to eat during their shifts, is it really appropriate to be doing it seated at a table where all the other customers sit? I imagine they store their personal belongings somewhere behind where customers are, and don’t see why I should have to sit anywhere near a bunch of staff guffawing and spitting their food everywhere when I’m trying to eat. The staff that WERE still working ended up being awful to customers, slamming food and drinks on the table without announcing the names of them. I had a waitress land a lemon-lime bitter right in front of my partner, saying absolutely nothing as she walked away, even though that drink was for my friend sitting across from me. This left us confused as she didn’t say what the drink was and didn’t even bother clarifying who it belonged to. The waitress wasted no time at all running away from the table like the coward she is, all so she could join in on the excessively loud conversation of her co-workers that made it seem like it was open mic night at Gami on a Friday afternoon! After seeing how their staff behave, it’s no wonder at all that they push for you to use the QR codes to order - since these waiters and waitresses would rather do anything else but actually serve their customers or treat them with respect. Thankfully for them, there are some positives about this place. Prices are pretty competitive and they have a good range of menu items, all of which come with images if you order online. It’s easy to pay in advance and get your food, and the chicken I received was cooked perfectly - beautifully tender and juicy. Across all items, flavour is great and there is definitely something on the menu for everyone - from chips to fried chicken, to burgers to cocktails. Just remember that Gami is a chain. You can find all of the above positives at any other location. And considering how terrible the staff at Fountain Gate are, I highly suggest going to any Gami in the state that ISN’T this one (:

We had dinner on Saturday night. Was very busy, we were waiting for 35 minutes to have our food. Food was nice, hot pot was an interesting experience. In our opinion, food slightly missed on a flavours side, bit probably it's an individual preference. Overall it was good!
Stan S — Google review
Got served the Smokin Hot BBQ chicken today with little to no chicken pieces in it (total 6 tiny chicken pieces). What it looks on the menu is completely different from when they bring it in person! Portion is highly misleading as they don’t put enough protein in the plate. It is to the point where the plate looks like it’s already had someone eat from it (refer to pic). The place is all about cutting corners and not giving a damn about customer service. So much for the sign at the front that tells people to “wait to be seated”when no one really asks you about your food. If I am paying 23 bucks for a dish it better have more than measly 10 grams of protein in it. Oh and they made me wait 15 minutes for this measly 10 gram protein dish as well. Save yourself the trouble of not coming to this place. Lots of better restaurants around. Staff look like they’re overworked all the time. The restaurant owner really needs to pull their socks up.

Can’t cook chicken to save their lives. Wouldn’t feed this to my dog! Went back and the guy apologise blamed the Uber driver for the burnt chicken… I said it’s black mate same with the burger meat and everything else not just cold. He said he’d redo it and give some extra chips and then just burnt the chicken a second time around. Straight after. Absolutely terrible. Never done a bad review in my life but this was taking the piss. Funny because I got owned but taking the piss.

We buy from The Hot Bird multiple times a week, and it never disappoints. Whether it’s a whole chicken or just a few quarters depending on what we need, the quality is always spot on – juicy, flavourful, and perfectly cooked every time. Over the years, we’ve also enjoyed their burgers and wraps – just as tasty and satisfying. And seriously, do yourself a favour and try their chips. They’re some of the best you’ll find anywhere – crispy, golden, and addictive. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and Alan (the owner) runs a great shop. It's clear they care about both their food and their customers. Highly recommend this place – it’s a true neighbourhood favourite!

Food was delicious, and the service was so lovely! The portions were very generous, and I would definitely return! However, the lovely person who served us was berated by two awful customers for no reason. I hope she is given proper supports for harassment and stress as I think she was working by herself. No one should be harassed while doing their job. :( 💔

Tried the chicken wings last night. Great deal on Wednesdays! They are very tasty and much larger than say , ones from KFC. Plus they have a menu of flavours. I tried Southern and Korean. Delicious and filling. They also serve great roast vegetables which I have often bought to supplement my meals at home. Staff are friendly and very competent. A must for chicken lovers!

Sunshine Social - BBQ is a laid-back Australian barbecue restaurant located in Melbourne's west. It is situated within a converted service station and offers indoor and outdoor seating, making it perfect for big groups, families, and even furry friends. The menu features shareable meat and veg platters, Sunday roast, American barbecue, and a popular fried chicken burger. Customers rave about the mix meat platter with chicken, pork, and gigantic beef ribs that fall apart at the touch of a fork.
Drove all the way from Fitzroy to try this place and it was definitely worth it. Amazing service, the food was perfect and the vibe was great. Highly recommended and we will be back. The Mac and cheese is probably the best I've ever had.
David — Google review
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience really deserves one. The steak was extremely fatty and so tough it was nearly impossible to eat. The chicken was undercooked and still had blood in it — completely unacceptable. To make things worse, the burger was raw in the middle. It felt like no attention was paid to proper cooking standards. This is not what you expect when you dine out. Very disappointing.
Shima S — Google review
This should be better, somehow I suspect they had staffing problems. The staff were great but how can I account for an almost 30 minute wait for chips and burgers. The squid was fabulous as were fish burger and signature burger. we enjoyed the artichoke dip and pita. but the waffles were burnt, took forever and had a great serve. But they were burnt. The mac and cheese had great texture and just not enough cheese. I feel like some staff had no showed but who knows. I reiterate the mains were really good. My problem was burnt waffles and mac n cheesed and the delay. It was busy then died down. Perhaps there was afunction on.

The beef was incredibly tender and housed in a soft Turkish Roll. I do think it could’ve had a little more going on. Our favourite dish was the Charcoal Chicken, which came with an amazing, tasty stuffing. The chicken itself was juicy and flavourful, I would’ve loved some crispy skin for added texture. El Jannah Chicken Kensington is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Lebanese cuisine, particularly their renowned charcoal chicken. This counter-service eatery offers a delightful menu filled with reasonably priced options, making it accessible for everyone. One standout dish is the quarter chicken plate, featuring smoky chicken paired with signature garlic sauce, mixed pickles, and warm Lebanese pita—an absolute bargain at around $12.
The chicken strips really surpassed expectations. It was very crispy, the fried batter didn’t fall apart, the garlic sauce and the gravy were absolutely amazing, much better than other fried chicken chains. The service was quick which I’m happy about it. Will come back next time I go to Kensington

I've been here a couple of times (including just now - Good Friday 18th) and everytime the staff seem disinterested. Not sure they're overworked or short on staff, but they don't even greet or say thanks - basic customer service.... They weren't even busy, every customer was friendly and it was just non-existent. Luckily the food was good, consistent with the original in Sydney. However the chicken was so small (refer to pic), perhaps they changed their supplier, if you compared it to my chips it was just slightly bigger lol.
Alex T — Google review
The charcoal chicken was succulent and the chips perfectly crispy. But the tabouleh, garlic sauce & chicken were all overly salty, throwing off the flavour balance when combined in a wrap. The profiteroles on the other hand, were light and filled with generous heavy cream.
Angel K — Google review
Although I liked the taste of the food, it is sad that the tables are dirty every time we come and there are too many flies. The fact that the guy working behind the counter serves his food again after wearing gloves is another issue. I used to come to this restaurant with pleasure in the beginning, but now I come much less.

Really loved the food here. I could tell it was made fresh straight away. The chicken burger was full of flavour with tender juicy pieces of whole chicken. Chips were perfect with their garlic sauce. The meal as a whole was so much better than what you end up with for similar money from major fast food places. Serving size was decent. Atmosphere and cleanliness was also good. Service was ok. Room to improve. Five stars because of the food quality, flavours and reasonable price.
Damien J — Google review
I made the mistake of ordering the Tawouk wrap, and I honestly feel sick after just a few bites. I even asked the staff if it had garlic in it, and was told yes. But what I received was not a real Tawouk it was a mayo drenched wrap with barely any chicken and completely missing the traditional garlic sauce, pickles, or fries. Traditionally, Tawouk is made with grilled chicken, garlic sauce, pickles, and sometimes fries. What I got was just a wrap soaked in mayo and coleslaw, and I don’t eat mayo. It was dripping with it. I usually finish my meals, but I couldn’t stomach this. It was that bad. When I politely explained this wasn’t a Tawouk, the staff member simply replied, “It is,” with no apology, no concern, and no offer to fix it. He could clearly see I wasn’t enjoying it. If he had given me what he confirmed—chicken with garlic—I could have enjoyed my lunch instead of leaving feeling unwell and upset. To make matters worse, the chips were way too salty, adding to the bad experience. I ended up wrapping the food and walking out, genuinely feeling sick because they wouldn’t fix my order. I had to get a coffee afterward just to get the taste out of my mouth. This was by far the worst El Jannah I’ve visited. I think the quality has dropped, especially in the newer branches. I’ve since read other reviews describing similar experiences—poor quality food and no attempt at customer care or fixing mistakes. It’s disappointing to see a brand grow bigger but lose focus on quality and customer service. I hope this feedback is taken seriously. People come expecting a reliable meal, not to feel sick for and unheard.

Heard so much about how good El Jannah chicken is, so our family decided to try the Kensington store. We ordered a family feast and were told there’d be a bit of a wait, which was fine at first. But after waiting 40 minutes, I checked on our order and was told it’d be at least another 20 minutes. For a fast-food place, waiting around an hour just doesn’t feel right, so I ended up cancelling. On top of that, the staff member who served me wasn’t very friendly or polite. I still want to try the food one day, but the customer service really put me off.

Chick-In is a trendy spot offering Korean fried chicken and beer in a modern industrial setting with communal tables. The restaurant is known for its moist and flavorful KFC, which can be paired with a variety of sauces at no extra cost. Located in a narrow laneway near Collins St, it's easily accessible by public transport. The menu features dishes like Gang Jung and spicy chicken wings served with chips or rice. Customers praise the generous portions and recommend trying the spicy chicken ribs.
Very nice KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) when mixed with sauces. Chicken are moist. Both soy and spicy sauces are with sweetness. I can order different sauces on a whole chicken without additional cost, which is the best. Food menu is with average price. This restaurant only have long tables, which suitable for large groups. This restaurant is hidden inside a very narrow laneway, easier to get there via Collins St. It is very convenient by public transport, located just next to train station. Car parking available nearby.

A small but cosy restaurant tucked away into a laneway making it easy to miss. With a lot of Korean fried chicken places available, it's hard to stand out and unfortunately this place doesn't. Food was good but nothing special or enough for me to return or recommend. Pricing is fair and as well as serving size.

Very nice little cosy KFC restaurant :) We came at around 5:30pm on Friday and it was still quite. We ordered the kimchi pancake and the Gang Jung, which came onto our table rather quickly. When ordering, my mum said that she can't tolerate salty stuff so the owner very nicely made sure that they didn't even season the fried chicken. Super nice of them! And they also provided me (who has a normal palate) with extra seasoning on the side. I personally find the pancake super delicious - probably the best I've had so far! I will definitely come back :)

This hole-in-the-wall establishment is gem! Tucked in a small alley near southern cross, chick-in serves great korean fried chicken. The chicken ribs are great, and I love how they throw in crispy tteokbokki in the max. And the ladies who run the place are the best, super nice.

Uber-eats this place now! 1/2 Chicken + Spicy Chicken Ribs With Chips 😍 Amazing Korean fried chicken (KFC). The chicken ribs is a must re-order, each bite is filled with juices leaving you to crave for more. The portions where on point, this was a meal for two (couple), we didn't finish. All the points go to the KFC really. Haven't tried the other items on the menu, but this place has already left a good impression. Presentation and the chips could be improved though. The chips where a little dry (might be because it was a delivery) and the slaw they gave us would be better if it was in a seperate container because as you can see, by the time we opened the package of 1/2 KFC, it was all mushy and warm (we didn't really eat any of the slaw).

Amazing menu. Tried almost all dishes. Gang Jung, the hottest chicken and chicken wings are my favorite one. Dishes will be served with either chips or rice. Really good food.
Ashish D — Google review
Korean fried chicken cravings had us headed for Chick-in, and those cravings were satisfied! We had the Gang Jung with the Kimchi Fries, and the Charcoal Burger. The chicken and kimchi fries were spot on, the same can't be said for the burger though, this was a bit of a let down. However if you're after fried chicken then you definitely need to check this place out! Really cool atmosphere and banging tunes, will have us coming back for more! - MustBeHungry

African restaurant
Vola Foods is a culinary gem that brings the vibrant flavors of Cameroonian cuisine to life, blending influences from across Africa, as well as Arabic and European elements. Nestled in Brunswick, this unique eatery operates out of a bright orange shipping container where head chef Ashley Volas and her team serve up beloved dishes like jollof rice, puff puff—delicious fried dough balls—and succulent barbecued meats.
Nestled right next to Ona coffee cafe. It might seem a bit eccentric at first glance, but the food will make you forget about that 😉. I felt like they were trying to give off African vibes with the open shack and graffiti art on the walls. I ordered the jollof lot, and I truly enjoyed the BBQ meat and all the flavours in the gravy. I have newly started exploring African flavours. Thus, I'll delve into it more. For starters, they have a good service, and the portion was alright for the price. They have a party coming up, so if you want to be a part of it, then check them out and join in. Keep in mind that parking can be a bit stressful and the restaurant is a bit further up from the curb. I would also recommend them to put up a bigger sign so that it's easier to spot them.

Food was absolutely great. Chicken perfectly seasoned, rice fragrant. Super impressed. However, portion size was pretty poor. Ordered the share box for 2 and received 4 chicken tenderloins. Mind you the price of the share box is $65. I think for that price, you would expect a bit more meat. Felt a little ripped off. Hopefully they improve in this area. Apart from that, everything was great.
Lachie M — Google review
We tried the Borniang Fish with Fried Plantains and the Jollof with the Lot, and both dishes left a lasting impression. As someone who loves fish, I was thrilled with the perfectly roasted fish, while my partner, a meat enthusiast, enjoyed the bold, savory flavors of the Jollof. The fried plantains were a highlight — crispy on the outside, caramelized, and delightfully sweet. The Jollof, served with a rich tomato stew, had a deep, savory flavor with a touch of smokiness that made it unforgettable. It was a fantastic introduction to African cuisine, and I can’t wait to return with family and friends to share the experience. Next time, I’m excited to try the Fish Stew with Rice and Vola’s Fried Rice!

Always such a treat coming to Vola, the food is always amazing and has the signature smoky charred flavours. The lamb is my personal favourite as well as the perfectly cooked plantains but everything on the menu is a 10/10.

Very friendly and warm service. Food was great. Very yummy with good sized serves. Never had plantains before. They were a little sweeter than expected but quite delicious like a cross between a sweet potato and a banana. Puff puffs also yummy. I chose caramel sauce.

The food was super amazing and I love the food truck / outdoor seating environment. The whole BBQ fish is a must-have, along with cassava chips and jollof rice. All the food we had was just full of flavours and tasted incredible to me.

The best African Foods in Melbourne. Variety to choose from, well cooked and balanced meals, affordable, tasty. The staff are very polite and clean. Lively and lovely African Music playing, quality parking. Ashley is a Gem💎 She makes clients feel at home. Its truly a place for a Taste of African Food.

One of the best places serving West African soul food, more specifically Cameroonian food. I and my friend had the Borning Fish ($40), Hot and Sweet Wings ($10), Fried Plantains ($10), Puff Puff ($10) and soft drinks ($8). One of my favourites is the fried plantains, which are so delicious. The roasted fish was great, the wings were one of the best I have ever had. I also had the opportunity to have their famous Jollof rice with fried chicken and plantains, which was an absolute banger! Ashley, who is the founder is an amazing chef who brings her culture and culinary skills to create amazing dishes like these. I wished there was a place in the city as well. Nonetheless, this is a great place to be!

Customers have praised the quality of the food, including the crispy chips and fresh salads with a variety of options. The friendly staff and efficient service add to the overall positive experience. Whether it's for a quick takeaway meal or catering for an event, this place has garnered high recommendations for its flavorful charcoal chicken and sides. Additionally, their lamb dishes and ancient grain salad are also highly regarded by patrons.
Stunning juicy charcoal chicken, my mother brought this home as we wanted to try this place out, it did not disappoint. The chicken sat in a box for at least 20 minutes but it was still hot, juicy, and delicious. The quinoa salad was stunning and I’ve never seen roast pumpkin elevated to the same level as roast chicken in perfection. I will definitely be ordering from here myself in the near future.

Here is what i just got with $50 from this store, meat were burnt with no saurces and they seem no care about new customers like me. If i was the staff or owner, i would have asked which saurces you like to put onto your hsp. This is bad.

After driving past this place over several years, I finally decided to give it a go after seeing how highly rated it is. I usually avoid places like these as in my past experience, I've always been disappointed. However, I enjoyed the chicken so much that I've been back a second time in a week. The chicken is really juicy and moist. The salads have been good so far too. Prices are reasonable which is a plus. Will definitely be coming here every now and then for a quick takeaway meal. Posting an updated version of their menu.

Love it. Free range chickens cooked perfectly. The store is spotless clean. Salads are super fresh. Service is impeccable. The bird box pack feeds our family of five easily and you can opt for two small salads instead if one large which is great for variety. Highly recommend.

Have been eyeing this place for a very long time, finally got to eat from Bird Box. The food is quite good, we were able to chose 2 salads, corn and chips on the side. However when we got home, the corn was swimming in soggy water, the chips were enormous for 2 people. Honestly was a waste of potatoes. Also it’s rather expensive. All together was $50 for just 2 people. (Not the best photos, I know)

Our fist time there and it was excellent! This will be our new our place for chicken and salads. Looking forward to trying what else they have. If you've not tried their chooks, it's a must and a 'go to'! Everything fresh, made daily and you'll keep going back for more. Thank, Nick and all others involved - yum, yum!

Ordered 5 roast chickens , 4 chips and 11 salads for a work Christmas function at a nearby park. The chicken was probably one of the best charcoal chickens that I've tasted, chips were so crispy and the salad's where fresh and tasty with a good variety ( greek, garden, bean, cous cous , south american slaw, broccoli with feta, potato and more ). You can just tell that these guys really care about what they do b/c everything was cut, packaged and cooked to perfection. The rest of the crew were really impressed with the quality and taste as well, I think you guys have won yourselves some new customers!

Fried chicken takeaway
Fusion restaurant
DesiNental, located on High Street in Prahran, is Australia's first Indian fried chicken and fusion burger bar. The owner, Gurvinder (Gary), has created a unique space that he calls an "Indian Narnia," with interconnected small rooms reflecting his upbringing in Delhi. Visitors rave about the flavorful Indian Fried Chicken (IFC) coated with a special spice blend and butter chicken sauce, as well as the deliciously fluffy burgers and crispy Masala fries.
This hidden gem is a nice place for a quick meal and a hot casual date. Attentive and welcoming hosts with tasty Indian flavoured burgers, sides, and fried chicken. There are 4 separate small seating areas with a theme in each space. Burger Bolg - Six amazing Indian themed burgers to choose from (1 special that keeps changing) We tried the Delhi Tikka and the Goan Trance Burgers Both were large with 200g of fried chicken with quality ingredients and unmistakably Indian flavours. The burgers were presented beautifully on real plates, and our hosts were very welcoming and attentive. The Delhi Tikka burger is highly recommended as something new and different. It can be enjoyed by anyone who likes the tastes of the sub continent. Interesting, filling, and amazing flavours. I gave it a 9.2/10 (which is super high on my scale) The Goan Trance Burger is spicy and not for the mild spice lovers. It is flavoursome and filling. I gave it an 8.6/10 The Desi's House Masala Fries were amazing! Just about the perfect fries! The sauce choices were wide, but the chips were great on their own. The Drumlettes and Wingettes are a nice filling snack. It's a little messy for a date, but a must try. Even the Indian Trance music and decor added to the experience. Overall, it is a great place with flavoursome foods and is well worth trying. 9.5/10 Keep an eye on the forever changing menu.

We really enjoyed our meal here. Everything was different to what we expected and it surprised us in a good way! There were a few vegetarian options. The samosa burger was something we have never had before and was packed with flavour. Would have again! We also got the vegetarian loaded chips which came with fake meat. We loved this!! The chips were extremely golden and the whole dish has a lot of flavour, we want to come back for this. The rose syrup lemonade was perfect for a hot day. The dessert is also amazing, so creamy! Definitely check it out.

As an experience, this hidden gem’s presentation, thoughtful ambience, generosity of thought & taste by head chef & owner Gary, and THE TASTE - it’s a Must Visit…!! Sat 02.03.2024 Desinental, Prahran by Masters… Burger Choice: The Delhi Tikka (N*) FULL REVIEW “What is Indian food?” - is the question posed by owner & chef Gary. An appropriate yet bold answer to this food existential question: The Delhi Tikka Burger 🍔 200g chicken schnitzel, creamy tikka masala sauce, nigella seeds, roasted cumin, and plum chutney aioli, crunchy sev, lettuce, tomato & pickled cucumbers. First bite - like 4 different flavours of India perfectly blended in a burger… what’s also impressive is the presentation — the burger 🍔 is stacked and each ingredient is visible, which also helps the big crunch factor. The proportions were excellent. I rate this burger an 9.8 for an experience, a 9.5 for what I would expect a burger to be… at a very reasonable price of $16. Even better, this place also makes me ask the question: What is a Burger? ✨😂👌🏻 Ambience - love the thoughtfulness placed in each room, like Narnia, you walk into different worlds flushed in purple, green, and esp the last room in orange, representing Yaad, or memory of Gary’s childhood. Would recommend for the experience, and even the Goan Trance, which my fellow burger blogger Nussy tried - is Not too spicy. ✨😮‍💨👌🏻 (* contains nuts) Bonus: fries were perfection - size, lightness, crunch, flavour. Size: Standard-Large Burger Size Quality of ingredients: Phenomenal! Beef paddy - great. Bun - great. The rest - great! Taste - 9.8 Presentation - Beautiful, spaced, visible Ambience (of Location) - Luckily we were the only ones at @ 7:30pm on a Saturday. (Hopefully this place busies up, they deserve it!) Gary (the owner/head chef) greeted us with Ervin, the new chef, and asked GREAT questions as well as fielding ours, and gave us a great personal history of how he got here. Never for the position, always for the project. A true food artist. Value for Money: Very reasonal for a gourmet burger in Melbourne at $16. We got an extra fried chicken cos Nussy was hungry and prices so reason. Overall Satisfaction: 9.8 / 10

For burgers we ordered: - the Delhi tikka ; fried chicken, creamy tikka masala sauce , nigella seeds, roasted cumin & plum chutney, aioli, crunchy sev, lettuce, tomato& pickled cucumbers - lamb keema karara; Spicy lamb mince sloppy joe style, green peas, lime, coriander, raisins, tasty cheese, caramelised onions & lettuce. - desi masala beef chopped cheese. This was really yummy chopped cheese sandwich, premium black angus masala mince, tasty cheese, crispy sev, special spicy mayo, onion, lettuce & tomato served chopped cheese style. The burger buns were really nice, and the burgers were bursting with flavour. We also ordered: Indian fried chicken - butter chicken and tangy clarified butter & cream sauce. I really like butter chicken, so it was delicious on wingettes. kulfi - pistachio & cardamon - this was for dessert. It was really good i only wish it was a bit bigger? loaded lamb keema fries - kadhai mince lamb fry, cheddar, sour cream, diced tomato, coriander & spring onions. Very delicious. The beverages were also really delicious.

I had a great experience at Desinental! The IFC (Indian Fried Chicken) was amazing - it was coated with a special blend of spices and batter mix and poured with creamy Butter Chicken sauce. Delish! Their burgers were packed with flavor, the buns were fluffy and delicious, and the Masala fries were crispy. You must try their house mixed cocktails too! The restaurant is also beautifully decorated and provides multiple dining rooms to suit different occasions. Five stars all around for Desinental!

Um… Indian Fried Chicken if you please!!! That should be enough of a prompt to get you walking down High Street Prahran to get yourself a fix. Really good fried chicken with Indian sauces. The butter chicken fried chicken was so good I could have eaten several serves had I not also been tempted by their Indian burger range. Super Smashed Samosa Burger certainly did the trick and the Masala fries made me think we might have a new replacement for Chicken Salt as the ultimate seasoning. Desinental does Indian fusion really well and has an intriguing interior with a variety of dining spaces out back. They also have a several cocktails (home made and bottled), beers and wines and a great soundtrack.

We are all for trying new and unique eateries around Melbourne and when we saw ‘Indian fried chicken’ being advertised we were keen to give these guys a go. Very cool decor and the layout of the venue is a private and secluded feel, great if you want some privacy. What we ordered: 🍗 drumettes snd wingettes w/butter chicken sauce 🍔 Lamb keema burger 🍔 Delhi tikka chicken burger 🥜 Peanut chaat 🍸 Bollywood duo - bindis and bangles The chicken was a highlight! Not only was the chicken in general cooked great, the sauce had the ultimate punch. Beauty of it? It wasn’t heavy - it was light so therefore made the dish very enjoyable (and not messy!) Definitely recommend the peanut chaat as the side (especially those who love / can eat nuts). Great mixed with tomato 👌. And the cocktail duo is no joke - the image says it all!

Only a few months new, the lovely owners are cooking up Australia's first and only - The IFC(Indian Fried Chicken), modern Indian burgers and homemade cocktails. 📸 What we ordered: 🍔 The Delhi Tikka $16 🍔 Desi Masala Beef Chopped Cheese $18 🍗 Indian Fried Chicken, Drummettes and Wingettes in Butter Chicken sauce $16 ✨ 🍟 Desi's House Masala Fries $9 ✨ 🍹Bindi & Bangles - Batched #1 $18 ✨ 🥤Coke zero $4 The owners share a love for Korean Fried Chicken and thought 💭 IFC can be a hit too and indeed it was the highlight of our meal. The chicken was juicy and the sauce completed the dish and felt substantial. It's made from fresh tomatoes, very buttery and with a recipe following authentic local Indian flavours. We grabbed takeaway of another one with Desi's special spicy date, jaggery & tamarind sauce 😋 The burgers had that Indian twist but wasn't a heavy dish - would be great with more sauce. Loved the sev bits (chickpea noodles) - fun pops in your bites of burger. The chips 👌 perfect light dusting of Masala spice so you can still taste the potato. And washed down with a sip of the homemade cocktail - smooth blend of salted grapefruit margarita 🍹 We enjoyed our meal in the last of 3 themed rooms with some vibey bg music 🎶 The menu definitely showcases Indian flavours in familiar way and is perfect for those who want to start exploring this cuisine. We would love to go back next time to try the lamb dishes. Come with a mate to share more! Follow IG @lilxeats for more reviews 😋

My family and I just went here for lunch. This is our first time at the restaurant. We impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant and the friendliness of staff. For the food, we love the chip because it’s crunchy and tasty. The chicken is spicy as we love that spicy level. We do not really like the fried rice and spring rolls because they are seemingly a bit oily for us. Overall, we love it. We will come back and try other dishes.

We had a wonderful dining experience. I believe this is the first authentic Korean Halal restaurant in northern suburbs. Well presented dishes, ordering was super easy and fast through QR codes designated to the table. Friendly staff and clean area. I have a good tolerance for spicy food but this one was beyond my limit. So better avoid the spicy sauce. We still enjoyed all the plates whilst tears pouring down with fuming ears 😁 Only downside was the TV was glaring silly youtube videos that made no sense. Some inspo on Korean culture, music, food, etc would be nice.

This Korean eatery really sets the standards high in terms of quality of food. The dishes we ordered were all delicious and by the end, our plates were empty. The decor was nice, roomy and clean. The only faults we had was the ordering at tables by phone however we found out you could still go up to the counter to order; we had to go up to the counter to ask for water while some other tables were provided with it; and one of our orders came late after all our other dishes was finished however one of the staff members came to us to apologise. Overall we had a good experience and would recommend the food there if you were after delicious Korean food. #koreaneats #beefchapchae #koreanfriedchicken #loadedfrieswithkimchi

We had dine in a couple of times. Excellent customer service however food is not consistent. It was fantastic on our first visit but the fried rice was hard and bland on our second. Potion is small for the price. It is definitely very pricey. Decided to do a take away for the third visit.. $25.90 for 400g of boneless chicken and its just a small box? I'm definitely surprised! It doesn't look 400g to me. And for $25.90 for this small box is a rip off! It wasn't a busy day, there were no customers in store so I'm not sure if this is a mix up. I'm definitely very disappointed!!
Sya S — Google review
I'm satisfied every time I come to eat at this place. I have yet to be disappointed by their soy garlic fried chicken drumsticks. Their bao buns (bulgogi beef in image) are also a must-try. Always get radishes on the side! They're super good. I'm not a fan of their fried rice, loaded fries, or spicy chicken (a little too spicy for me), but everyone has their own preferences, and they always bring out good food. They always keep their restaurant clean and tidy, with a really nice atmosphere. There's music playing and a television that streams short videos. The employees are friendly, but there isn't much I can say about the customer service. You order on your phone and pay on your phone when you dine-in, and there's kiosks for take-away orders. Regardless, the people working there are always approachable.

I've been eating here for many years. Today will be my last day buying food here. The service super bad. Can't believe I stay in line and it's up to my turn no one actually serve me. Even I stay for while and they serve other people behind me. There were also two lady come from no where maybe their regular customer and they ignore me again to come serve them even I told them that I came first. They not even smile or say thank after all just giving me attitude instead. What a shame to open a business with such a worse customer service like this. Avoid this store guys.

The fried chicken was good, the Charcoal chicken was okay, the Spanish Chicken and chips were good, the spicy version was not, it's just a sambal olek painted on that doesn't go at all with the Spanish chicken. The gravy was also Average.

Be careful when paying, ordered fish and chips which was around $12 when making payment they simply pass the machine over without the display visible to you, which to me was sketch, so after paying, I asked, how much did you charge me? 'What?' the woman replies, I ask again, how much did you charge me? Turn out is was $16 she charged, I asked why I was overcharged and she struggled to explain, the guy next to her steps in and says, oh she must have thought you were getting the combo with the drink, yet the food presented was simply the fish and chips with no drink, no clear pricing for that either. So you're telling me you thought I wanted the combo even though I didn't ask for it, charged me for the combo because that's what you thought I wanted, but didn't actually give me the combo? Yeh that seems sketch AF.

Don't go here for salads. They are prepped 1 time a week, and sit in that fridge unit on the right for that whole time. Food safety is about 10th on the list of things they care about. Chicken is okay definitely one of the better tasting chickens around. Just overall food safety standards is sub par. Idk how they are still operating after they had mice in 2016-2017 a lot of the packaging they would give food out on had mice crap on it. Also don't work here, I was getting paid $10 an hour cash in hand when I first started in 2016. I was waiting to post this review to see if the management had change since then (it hasn't).

I come here quite frequently and have had a variety of options on the menu, with the different flavoured chicken, salads, various roll options and curries. On this occasion we had a takeaway (so apologies for the poorly presented photos), we had two sly foxes, one of which was the veggie option with the mushroom and the other with the chicken and some roast veggies on the size, definitely one of the tastier burger options together with the fancy fox! The majority of the menu is spot on, however we have previously had a vegetarian curry which wasn’t so impressive. It is on the pricier side but happy to pay a premium for fresh and tasty food.

I love their salads, they're absolutely delicious. However, I'm very sceptical about customer service. I usually get a takeaway salad for dinner, and each time I walk in, I get a very typical "I don't care who just walked in, I'm using the littlest energy for it, using no greeting, littlest walking, and also the littlest voice I can" kind of service. Healthy food delivered by energetic people. Fantastic.

Wow wee. Foxes den boasts the health but the two things I ordered were on the sweet side. Meatballs? So sweet. I got maybe 6 meatballs in a sweet napoli sauce which was microwaved. Seems like they use microwaves to heat up a lot of their food as they have microwaves lined up next to each other. I also got the sweet potato and brown rice which was hard and extremely sweet as well (yes I'm aware there is sweet potato in it) but as a whole it was too sweet. The wait was mainly due to heating up the meatballs and by golly, 6 meatballs and a small salad for 20$. Ouch! service was good hence the two stars but I was expecting more from the food for this price. It's a no from me ❌

Terrible. Ordered a bone broth which was fine but also ordered a veg curry which was liquid on the periphery and solid in the middle of the plate. It was fridge cold to touch so took it back and stated it was cold. The young, unapologetic male stated he'd heat it up and returned the hot dish to my table a couple of minutes later. I avoid using the microwave oven at home. Why would I choose to pay someone to use it when I eat out? I can only guess as to whether the bone broth is microwave heated. Unacceptable.

Here, theyve flogged the s*** out of their expensive and plain 'historic' healthy old menu..... (loaded with sodium), now they think they are old skool restaurant gods from Toorak. Sorry! takes more manners, responsive customer service, and courtesy than that,..to generate life long repeat clientele. Hunky Dory were right. Very rude bunch! Ciao

The Foxes Den ratings will increase when they have some food for their customers!!...yes I have been there 4 times with 2 visits with hardly any food and 2 visits with no food at 8pm!! Seriously the staff seem more interested in packing up and going home for the night than satisfying customers needs - no food = no star..except google want at least 1 star

Foxes Den is my favourite place to come to eat whenever I'm in the Richmond area. Their food is always so delicious and makes me feel good after eating it!

Bird's Upstairs is a captivating cafe that offers a unique chicken dining experience. Guests can customize their meal by selecting their preferred cut, heat level, and sauce for the chicken. The menu also features delectable sides such as silky mashed potatoes with 48-hour gravy and garlic-butter brioche. The ambiance of the cafe is perfect for enjoying fantastic food and exceptional service from the staff.
Birds upstairs is a fantastic cafe with fantastic food and perfect atmosphere. Got lucky to try some and decided to write a review. I am giving it a 5 star for outstanding food, awesome staff and for the efficiency. Everything was cooked really quick. I would definitely recommend it to my friend.

This place is no longer Birds upstairs and the menu is totally different. The website is still up and running. It is now called jazz corner. We walked so far to get there only to find out want what we saw in the website, we decided to stay anyway. I had the barramundi which was dry and over cooked, the wild rice was chewable dry. Not good.
