We booked a 3-day tour with TopTours and had an amazing time. This tour was perfect for us - three backpacking students - and had the perfect mix of adventure and homestay! We stayed with a real nomadic family and spent a night in a ger of one of the best herders of Mongolia! Amra - one of the managers - was extremely nice and explained everything perfectly to us. Soko - our tour guide - took extremely good care of us and gave us interesting insights into Mongolia and life in UB. She even taught us a really cool card game! Both speak English very well. I would definitely recommend staying there if you are young and adventurous. The guesthouse also has really good vibes, you feel a bit like you are just living in a big and comfy living room.

I've had such a lovely stay at Top tour guesthouse. The guesthouse is comfortable and clean. The owners are so sweet, thoughtful, always ready to help. They organized a tour for us, booked taxis and shuttles, and were always ready to answer all our questions. The guesthouse has a nice atmosphere and is tucked in a quiet alley, but conveniently located right in the center. The breakfast are good and different everyday. 100% worth the money, I stayed there when I first arrived in ULB and came back the next two times I was in the city. We also did a 7 days tour with Guide Soko, which was great. The accommodation was good, Soko went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable in every place. She cooked delicious, nutritious food for us and also accommodated vegetarian diets. There was more than enough food and snacks, water always available. All in all very competitive price for the service you get. I would definitely do another tour with them.

Monkhtuya is extremely helpful. Rooms are nice and clean and there is a wide variety of great tours. Baaska and Bataar were amazing as guides and drivers.

Great Guesthouse in the city centre of Ulaanbaatar. Great location, very clean and comfortable. I went on a tour with them, all the staff was very professional and caring.

For second stay, owner does not respond when asked for confirmation on cancellation. Due to flight cancellation. Know it’s a request on the day , but still I’ll expect a yes/no answer. But no, he just ignore my message and proceed with the charging. In previous stay, it’s difficult to find the hostel when first checkin. Called the phone numbers but no answer. Took some time to find a contact that owner then answered. Also the room was hot. Was thinking about travel partnership but I guess he is not reliable and I’ll look for others.

They were very helpful with arranging an airport transfer. We travelled with three bikes and they were able to accommodate this. Very helpful with storing our bike boxes while we explored Mongolia.

I booked this hostel via Booking for 4 nights. Hostel has airport transfer service for 25$ per car. The driver is polite and help me with carry luggage. As when I arrived it is late night, my first night I booked a private double room with bathroom attached. The bed is comfy and room is acceptable clean but no shower gel. Luckily that I brought. The remaining 3 nights I stayed in a private twin room with shared bathroom. The room is large and well clean. I like the big window where I can have time chilling the weather and view outside. The shared bathroom is big and it has shower gel. There is a living room and kitchen with many things well equipped such as microwave, cooler, kettle, utensils, teabags. Hostel’s location is very convenient, just behind the Peace & Friendship bus stop. A few minutes by walk to State Department Store and Sukhbaatar Square. Host is very honest and kind to me. He tried to help me with finding a taxi to Ulaanbaatar train station. Eventually there is no taxi available due to crazy traffic jam. Be careful when traveling in peak period as the traffic jam in Ulaanlaatar is unbelievable. I can say walking is faster.

Definitely a great base in Ulaanbataar to land, come back to after trips and leave from since the hosts are so friendly, communicative and helpful. Nothing they won't support you with. Thanks you for making our Mongolia experience so smooth. :)

I stayed at Zaya's hostel after a 10 days trek. I arrived unannounced 4 hours before check-in time and I was welcomed by the owner of the hostel. They adapted to my arrival and prepared my room within 30 minutes during which Anand the owner, sat down with me and told me much about Mongolia. The hostel is also very well located and within walking distance of everything. It was a lovely experience.

We stayed in both Zaya hostel locations during during our stays in UB before and after our tour. Location is perfect, right in the middle of the city, near the sights and restaurants. Anand is helpful and knows well the trade - he can help organise tours, transport, etc. The first location was good - new facilities. The second dusty and rather old. All in all a good choice to land in UB.

The location on Google Maps is correct, but the exact route it'll give you is not. You’ll want to go through the street parallel to the one Google's itinerary suggests. The hostel is cozy, run by a friendly Mongolian family who can speak great English. Discussing Mongolia with the older hosts provided a lot of interesting insight. No complaints about hygiene, the kitchen is well-equipped, and the beds are comfortable. My only gripes were the lack of plugs (extension cords in the dorm room are needed) and the spotty Wifi in some areas.

The owners are very nice. The breakfast is good and the shower is hot. This area of UB has a modern vibe with lots of malls and nice places to eat. Would recommend!

If you're looking for a tour, definitely DON'T go with them. Mongolia is an amazing country with spetacular places. If you don't wanna ruin your trip, chose Sunpath, Camel Track and similar professional ones. Before start the tour, the owner promises everything he can, but most of his promises is a lie, and what really matter for him and his wife is the money. I did a 30 day tour with my husband and a friend on july, 2016. All the camp equipments were dirty and broken. There was no cover to the tent, and the sleeping bag zipper and tent door was broken. The driver, called Beijing, was not able to talk and understand English. That's ok, because its usual in Mongolia, but the owner lie about it. Beijing was an experient driver, but in the same hand, he was very rude, and the only word he was able to say was "NO"! In the second day, Beijing said the car was broken and it was not possible to continue the journey, so, we lose one day in another city. Suddenly in the next day, he said the car was good. In the last 2 days, he skipped the itinerary and ran as faster as possible, so, we discover he had another guests to start a new tour. He asked for more money, but we denied. In the way back, he put locals and a big washing machine in the car we rented, without asking, but we were so tired about him, that we accepted without questioning. In the west Mongolia, we were almost fined, escorted and arrested by the army, because the owner made a big mistake about the permits we needed for some places, and he didn' admit his mistakes. This is a small part of the problems we had in this tour and the only reason we didn't abandon the tour was because we decided to leave our backpacks in the guesthouse in Ulanbatoor. When we came back to UB, the owner and his wife were very rude and screamed with us, they didn't care about our complaints and the only thing they said was they wanted the money. We were traveling for 2 years around the world, we are really easygoing people, we like to treat people with respect and courtesy. Mongolia is a place full of beauty and we felt in love with this blessed place, but some bad things happen and you need to manage things. I hope I can help people to avoid bad experiences in Mongolia with this kind of people that don't care about travellers and the money is the only thing they care.

It was a nice experience to stay there. Entire hostel was clean and tidy. In addition, the staff were super friendly and helpful. They provided valuable information about the tour packages and sightseeing plans. Moreover, breakfast was included in the room tariff. It was good deal as the tariff was reasonable and that too with breakfast. Bed size in dorks was also enough. Furthermore, city center and Sukhbaatar Square was close by and it was easy to walk. Overall it was a god stay.

A guesthouse with lovely people giving you whatever service you need. Dormitory and double rooms. Shared toilets and shower, but always possible to do what you needed. Good sleeping comfort in double rooms. We stayed four nights. Small egg based breakfast with coffee and tea. Wifi was good. Breakfast room serves as a social center. We ordered all airport transfers (35€) and every transfer was as appointed. We also went on a tour four days in Terelj, Hustai and Kharakhorin (Karakorum) with good driver and Wednesday as an inspiring guide. Stayed with normadic people in their gers and one night in tourist ger camp. 95$ pp/per night all included. Everything was as expected and to our satisfaction. You pay 22$ pr night for a double and location is innthe absolute center of UB. Supermarket 30 m from entrance. Highly recomnended and thanks to manager Victor and his family and friends.

Good breakfast mostly toast, 2 eggs, sausage and coffee/tea. 4. Common area was nice and big to socialise (but winter meant there were hardly any travellers when I went) 5. Shared fully equipped kitchen to make your own food if needed 6. Good beds with privacy curtains, sockets, light, lockers, tower etc. Disliked · 1. Property is 4 flights of stairs to walk from the ground floor, no lift. Harder for those with bigger/heavier bags 2. Wifi is a bit of a disappointment. Though its UFB the speed takes a hit and lot of buffering time 3. Only one toilet/bath on the side that I stayed n there were 12 dorm beds. Can be a bit of wait in the morning rush 4. Winter meant that there were almost no tours to the country side that could be organised. Had a great stay at the City Guesthouse. The rooms were modest but spacious, great value for money and the location was unbeatable. Plenty of restaurants and shops in walking distance. The staff were incredibly helpful and repeatedly went out of their way to assist me and my, unfortunately, constant questions and requests. Hats off to Ganaa for being a gem and helping me start my trip across the country. Also, the breakfast was nice!

This guesthouse and its tour was what made our Mongolian tour so memorable. We booked the accommodation, drive from/to the airport, and, most importantly, our long Mongolia tour by email. Everything was spot on, and way cheaper than what you would get from typical tour companies. The tour we booked was so memorable and great. We discussed our tour itinerary by email, and we could modify the tours and activities, and add another day of travel. The tour was great; our tour guide, Nasaa, was very kind and helpful, and she treated us like her own children. We did so many authentic Mongolian travel activities in the sand dune, waterfalls, historical sites, doing horseback riding, camel riding, or trekking. We slept in the gehrs and ate local food. One of our members had a stomachache, and Nasaa made sure she got the right food. The accomodation itself is good too! Excellent location; every tourist spot in Ulaanbaatar, including the department store, city square, cashmere mall, museum, etc. is in walkable distance. Breakfast is served every morning, wi-fi is good, and the staff are very helpful and nice. If you are young travelers looking for awesome romantic journeys, just email this place. An amazing experience!! We arrived to Ulanbataar without any planned itinerary. We were lucky to find Urnaa who helped quickly plan an 11 day trek through the Gobi Desert and central Mongolia. Sugiraa was our driver for the 11 days and was fantastic. We stayed with several families and had great accommodations. We saw beautiful night skies and tons of wild life. I have backpacked through many countries but Mongolia has to be the most amazing! Would highly recommend this tour company.

We did not take a tour, just stayed at the guesthouse. The host was very kind, the room and amenities were clean and comfortable, and they let us leave our bags with them for a few hours after we checked out so we didn't have to carry them around town.

We took a 3 day tour to must see sights around UB. It was 10/10, well organized and customized. We were able to request some changes in the itinerary and all were more than welcomed. We asked for vegetarian meals and all were amazing. The guide and driver were very friendly and hospitable. 100% recommended

Urnaa is an amazing host. Super easy to communicate with. Phone, WhatsApp... Rooms are clean. Decent size living area. Basic breakfast. Working Wi-Fi. Chill and homely vibe. Wonderfully helpful owners who give personal attention to detail. Urbana speaks good English and helped us organise our Mongolian visas plus train tickets to Russia. We spent 2 great days with her company visiting sites and experiencing Mongolian hospitality outside the capital. I thoroughly recommend Vast Mongolia.

I recommend to every traveler who would like to stay in UB to choose Vast Mongolia ! The owners are really friendly and helpful. The place is really clean and the breakfast is good ! They can also arrange tours even for one day around UB.

Convenient to the train station and only a 15 minute walk to the town center. The rooms are quiet, clean and spacious. The management is polite, breakfast provided, restaurant and local karaoke and party venue in basement but it's not noisy for those in the rooms. Also they provide free transport to and from the station. Private rooms and dorms are available. I stayed here as a lone traveler for 5 days in November 2015. Neighborhood is ok but not attractive, as with most of UB it's a bit dusty in street.

We are tourists from Poland. On June 2015 we were in Mongolia with Majestic Gobi Tour. We are very pleased. Batar, the owner of the travel agency, is a very nice man with sense of humour. Batar was a very helpful in sightseeing Ulan Bator (which did not including our program). Our 21-days round trip around Mongolia was realized in 100%. We had a very nice days in Mongolia.

We used Golden Gobi for a ten day tour of the Gobi Desert and Orkhon Valley. Our tour guide Oggy took a group of six us on the tour and it was the absolute highlight of my three months of travelling. Every day brought something unforgettable: one day we were exploring a canyon where snow leopards, mountain goats, and vultures can be spotted; the next we were watching the most breathtaking sunset I’ve ever seen in the Gobi; then waking up on the vast steppe; and later opening our ger door in Orkhon Valley to a fresh blanket of snow. What made the trip truly special was Oggy’s thoughtfulness and care in shaping the experience. She chose unique and memorable accommodations—on our very first night, we stayed with a Mongolian heavy rock musician who gave us a private performance in his ger. Another evening, Oggy adjusted our plans so we could spend the night with a nomadic family on the steppe. That was an unforgettable experience: we shared their homemade food, learned about their way of life, met their herds of horses, and even went for motorbike rides with the father of the family. Oggy also cooked for us throughout the journey, preparing delicious and varied meals every day. Some of the highlights were a rich Mongolian BBQ, hearty pasta, and a warming vegetable soup. On top of that, she shared her deep knowledge of Mongolia, making sure we understood the history and culture of each place we visited. Beyond her skills as a guide, Oggy was kind, friendly, and a joy to spend time with. I loved getting to know her personally and hearing about her own family and life in Mongolia. I can’t recommend Oggy highly enough to anyone looking to explore Mongolia. She turned an incredible trip into a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. This is the best place if you want to have a price-worthy place to stay that also has a lot of knowledge, contacts and experiences for traveling with nomads and in the country side! I would recommend this place definitely and I have to say huge thank you to the managers of the hostel who helped a lot with planning routes and explaining the country. It is clean, very friendly and a warming space! Beds are quite short and you need ear plugs for the noices but otherwise I really loved the stay! AND the tour they offered to me to hop on last minute to Gobi desert (9 days) was the most incredible one I could have imagined!

Excellent staff, fun and friendly hostel with a super cozy atmosphere. I came to Mongolia with no plan and the staff here did an amazing job helping me organise my entire trip through the countryside at a really good price. Definitely coming back to the Golden Gobi next time I’m in Mongolia.

Unfortunately, our experience at this hostel was mostly negative. While the large common area makes it easy to meet other travelers, that’s really the only positive. The bathrooms and showers are generally not clean and unpleasant to use. The hostel’s tours are much more expensive than other providers, without offering better quality. During my trip, I experienced serious safety issues—their van had a mechanical accident, and we also heard about other guests’ vehicle catching fire—and the hostel didn’t provide proper support. When we tried to organize our own independent trip, the staff were clearly unhappy to assist, even with basic things like buying a bus ticket. They were frustrated when one of our friends joined us instead of going on the hostel tour. Overall, despite the social vibe, the poor hygiene, overpriced tours, and unfriendly staff make this hostel hard to recommend.

I took a 9 day (solo) tour with Golden Gobi and it was absolutely wonderful! I had a great team (guide, cook, driver) travelling with and caring for me, who all were great, friendly, and competent. The tour was tailored to my liking and flexible depending on my preferences. I can recommend this company if you want to take a tour through Mongolia / the Gobi desert.

I spent 4 nights in the separate room with bathroom. I nice room. All other rooms seem to be dormitories. Too noisy nights: In the middle of the nights, there were people in the living room chating or preparing some trip. A real pain if you are a light sleeper. I do not recommend if you want quiet nights.

Stayed here 3 nights before I made a private tour. The owner was kind but wanted to sell the tours by themself. After the knew that you don’t want to do a tour with them they don’t care about you. I extended 1 more night and the room was overbooked. They had to find a solution at 11pm… sucks if you just want to sleep and a person is in your paid bed.

Basic but clean rooms with fridge and TV. Pretty noisy in the room's because Hostel is located next to the main city avenue. Beside the noise Hostel location is great, you can find near Banks, restaurants, mobile network providers and all kind of shops.

This accommodation clearly aims for low budget customers. But it's really good in this niche. The breakfast is the smallest I ever experienced in any accommodation. But besides that, the rooms are fine, the staff is very helpful and the location in the middle of the city is awesome. Nothing luxurious but great value for money.

I am a returned guest. Really love the location and amenities here, kitchen, separete toilets and standup showers, towels are provided on the house. During my first stay the left wing shower wasn't really draining down the water and the corridor was lightly blooded by soap water. They reaponded my feedback quick and swift, solved the problem! And this time, it drains well and perfectly! Thumpsup to that. locationwise, it's close to everything you need, grocery shopping can be done at the state department store Black tea and soluable coffee are alway filled up to the rim and hot water keeps your body warm 24/7. Kitchen is big with three tables. But it seems empty all the time, probly most guests are preoccupied by tours outside the city and sightseeing in town.

My second hostel in Ulaanbaatar. Location, next to the State Department, and near souvenir shops, was excellent. Nice large common room. I wish they had a water filter for cold water, like the first hostel did. I ended up buying water. The water boiler was knocked out by a flood, so no hot showers, but they have a small boiler which made the experience a little more bearable. Staff were very helpful, especially with the airport transfer. They checked my flight details carefully and even called the airport to make sure everything was correct. I really appreciated that. The toilet paper often gets wet, so maybe also have your own stash ready just in case.

I stayed at Mongolian Vision Tours Guesthouse for a week and absolutely loved it! The place was recently remodeled and is now super cute, modern, and cozy. I booked a private room and felt comfortable and at ease the whole time. The location is perfect — walking distance to major spots like the National Museum and Parliament, with tons of restaurants nearby and even a convenience store right by the entrance. What really made the difference was the amazing staff and the kind owner, who went above and beyond to help me. From thoughtful recommendations to arranging transportation, they truly made my stay easy and special. I was genuinely sad to leave. Thank you for such a warm welcome — I’ll never forget my time here, and I hope to return one day!

Not reliable or professional. I booked a private room two months in advance when there was plenty of availability. Just two days before my arrival, they cancelled, claiming they had overbooked. I genuinely believe they found someone willing to pay more and gave away my room. The last-minute cancellation forced me to book another place at a premium price. Extremely unprofessional and unreliable. I wouldn’t trust them again.

Super clean, bright, airy modern interior and rooms. The staff and owner are extremely helpful with anything you need, and will help with setting up any venturing you have in mind with drivers, jeeps, and or guides. We hired an English speaking driver and jeep for four days and basically said we wanted to wing it. Ended up with an amazing trip to Kharkhorin, Elsen Tsarkhai, and Khustei while staying with nomad families at night that our driver knew depending on what area we ended up in that day. Highly recommend this place. Comfortable and affordable stay in a great location in UB.

I stayed at Zaya for 2 nights in November 2014 as part of my Trans-Siberian journey from China to the UK. It is a quiet and restful place with a nice common room and some good books to read!. The rooms are warm and there is a good breakfast meal. The manager spoke excellent english and was kind enough to give me a lift to UB train station for my onward journey.

Clean, extremely comfortable, and the proprietor is amazing. We felt right at home. Anand not only made us feel at ease, we actually felt safe knowing that he's around to help us. I ended up extending my stay. He helped me register my extended stay with immigration. He even arranged the driver. I've stayed at many hostels. I've never been treated better than I am treated here. Thank you Anand for everything!!!!

In short: Zaya hostel was great. The 2 person bedroom we had was nice and clean and there is an overall good vibe in the hostel. Kind staff as well. One of the owners, Anan, helped us with some trips which we liked very much. When we think back of our trip with Bacha, one of the drivers of the hostel, we just smile of joy. Bacha is not really a guide and Anan asked us if it was ok if Bacha drove us to a temple. This was no problem for us. At the temple Bacha turned out to be a charmfull guide after all, really doing his best to explain everything to us. This kindness made our day and represents the kindness of the Zaya staff as a whole. Thank you for all the help. This review was an easy one: 5 stars!

The brothers that run this place are so awesome and accommodating. They are very honest and look after each traveler like big brothers-- they will help you plan an amazing trip according to your budget. They also own Zaya Hostel across the street. Amar went to LSU and Anand went to Univ Texas-- they grew up in Mongolia so are extremely knowledgable. Look no farther!! Stay here and book your trip with them

Excellent place to stay. Anand and the rest of the staff were very helpful with organising trips, exchanging money and travel advice. Amenities were very clean, communal area was comfortable and great wifi. I would highly, highly recommend staying in Zaya.

Booked this accommodation on Trip.com. The place is clean and warm. Bed's really comfortable. There are curtains for privacy and the lockers are huge which I really like a lot. Hot water works well in the shower. The toilets could be a little quite small though but manageable. And there's free use of the washing machine as well. They have a kitchen where you can drink coffee/tea for free. And the host brings bread for breakfast :) Since there's also a sofa in the kitchen, i was very happy that i was able to meet fellow travelers to hangout with. Location of the hostel is really good. It's on the 6th floor of the same building of KFC on Sambuu st. It's near a lot of restaurants, convenience stores, and the main touristy places. The host Sonny was really kind, warm, helpful, and friendly. He lent me his jacket when i went for a day tour to Tereli National Park because it was cold that day and I don't have enough thick jackets. His brother Bayaraa was also very welcoming when he picked me up at the airport at almost midnight. Thank you again for the hospitality and will definitely stay here again when I come back to Mongolia. :)

Very hygienic and cosy environment, also very close to city centre. Last but not least, Sonny, the owner is an awesome guy! I wanted to go to Hatgal but didn't manage to book bus tickets and hostel there. However, he helped me a lot! Without him, I could not have had this great time in Mongolia!! I assure you you won't regret staying at this hostel. Also, breakfast and coffee are soooo good!

Im very happy to stay here for a week! The owner is nice n hardworking guy, he clean the property everyday by himself! The property is well maintain! The location is very convenient to walk around! Immacuately clean, new, and stylish hostel. Great value for its low price. Great location within the city center, a walking distance to tourist attractions, restaurants, and convenience stores. The hostel owner provided airport transfers (80,000 tugriks) to and from the airport despite my flights arriving and departing around 3 AM in the morning. They were so kind and helpful to me, from helping me get a tourist SIM to bringing me around the city and helping me call different tour companies in Mongolian to find a horseriding tour. They have free toiletries, indoor slippers, towels, and a hair dryer. The hostel is excellently maintained by caring and considerate hosts.
